In short
Ethan Loy’s skate origin story, hustles, family influence, and a run of injuries; plus standout skate clips and career moves (Arcade/Element/now Swim), discussed on The Bunt with hosts Safer and Donovan D Jones.
Guest backgrounds
Ethan Loy grew up in Santa Ana, California, skating alongside his older brother David, who was a young prodigy with major sponsor support (Hurley/Birdhouse). Ethan played roller hockey, used hand-me-downs, and was shaped by a “ultimate skate dad” who filmed with a GL2 and built backyard ramps.
Key claims
Ethan says his dad was the ultimate skate dad—skating-focused, filming legendary clips, and taking the family skating instead of church. Ethan also claims his wrist deformity repeatedly worsened due to delayed HMO treatment, requiring major surgery and bone grafts. He argues his career trajectory changed when his Element situation ended and he later joined Swim after waiting a year without a board sponsor.
Notable examples
David’s RC car destruction and a welding-rail incident that left Ethan with a black eye; Ethan’s childhood “side hustle” selling his brother’s old boards/clothes and later snacks/soda at school; the Citibank building escalator hubba clip causing whiplash and security chase; the “war” at a famous LA spot (26+ sessions, 200-yard run-up precision); and Ethan’s “sex injury” knee pop while kneeling after knee surgery.

You got to hit us with your favorite skate moment and your favorite sports moment. Studio E, baby. Let's go. If I were to say what's most memorable for me as a sports memory was growing up in Orange County and the thriving 90s Ducks, like Timu Solani and Paul Kria. Those are my guys. I idolized those guys growing up playing hockey and then eventually on the skating or whatever. But that duo was like, it was like Kostin and Carroll. like you know it was perfect dude they were unreal man you guys won the stanley cup too yeah not with those guys not with those guys but there was a hope that those guys were gonna win it they went to the playoffs a couple times but nothing crazy that's wicked and then skate moment um it's like fucked up to say but it was like such like it's a vivid memory that i have like this local skate park in Santa Ana I grew up skating I was there with my oldest brother David and my dad and David was trying to kick foot the seven stair this isn't even my it's not even like my personal situation but David was trying to kick foot the seven stair and I've never seen anybody credit card their board harder than him oh shit like fucking bounced off his nose like so gnarly and my oldest brother like he hardly skated he was a ref in hockey and then he like eventually kind of worked in the industry for a little bit but him and i like he didn't even really skate much he was just trying to prove david a point he's like i'll be better than you at transition in fucking six months no big deal wearing a hockey helmet like fucking some rebox or whatever but him and i were just dying laughing david's like screaming and agonizing pain on the ground i must have been like six David's like 10 he's like just getting his kickflips down down the stairs and his two brothers are just dying laughing my dad literally came over like grabbed me by my shirt and he's like David's fucking bleeding he's like he's fucking bleeding like don't fucking laugh and it just made me and my brother laugh more the whole way to the hospital from Santa Ana to Long Beach we were just dying laughing that he split open his medsack
10:20fucking losing our minds and my dad's driving and literally throwing punches at me and my older brother as we're dying laughing so hard and like a side note to that story when david was getting stitched up he was like he he told my mom when he was in the er he's like i have to fucking fart and she was like david if you if you fart in this doctor's face right now he's literally stitching you up like his nose was inches like inches dude i even fucking let one out and i i was in the waiting room and i saw the nurses walk out of the room like storming into the main like office zone of like the waiting area so funny my mom came out she's like he just farted in the doctor's face Like they're not even going to want to do surgery anymore.
11:13It's going to be insane. Like your brother's so dumb.
11:19You can't, you can't, but that's, those are probably two fond memories that I recall.
11:30Davis Torgerson:So take us back to the beginning, man. Where'd you grow up and how'd you get into skating? I grew up in Santa Ana, California. Obviously like had a brother, David was kind of like a prodigy at a certain point, like 12 years old, getting paid from fucking Hurley and Birdhouse and all these people. So I saw early on that there's like something with skating. I played roller hockey, mind you. I didn't play ice hockey. Sick. So like I knew that wasn't going anywhere. And my family couldn't afford like a season for ice skating, like ice hockey. Like that shit's so expensive. and like I was just rocking all my older brother's hand hand me downs from roller hockey so it was like super easy with that shit but so it like it boils down to like me seeing my brother start traveling and then it just got me like really stoked on the idea of skating I kind of knew how to skate with just having him around and like my dad skated growing up he's a surfer like punker skater from like the 70s 80s so like he introduced it to the family there was always a board around But I really got into it when I started seeing David traveling and seeing that, like, maybe I can make this something myself.
12:44Before that, I think I had, like, board slides on a rail. I didn't even know how to kickflip. I knew how to, like, shove it and board slide rails. That's crazy. Big bro, man. He's obviously influential. See him thriving just makes sense, man. And obviously, he grew up with, like, all the goats. So I was surrounded by them skating and pushing me all the time. That's nice. What's up? So what would you consider your first big break in the skate industry? Like when did your career start popping? When I kind of trickled away from my brother's footsteps, I guess. First thing that comes to mind is like I was getting Birdhouse boards and like Hurley Flow, like all of my brother's sponsors.
13:23Like I was getting hooked up by them, but it was because of big bros. So eventually I figured like I really need to stray away and like do my own thing. and um this dude jason rogers was giving me autobahn wheels at a certain point and i like didn't have another board sponsor i was just getting like a couple birdhouse boards and then he like hit me up he's like hey we're starting up arcade skateboards again like would you want to be involved i was like what the fuck he's like sad's back on i was like i'm in that's all i had to hear that's all i had to hear i think i got like two or two boards a month it really wasn't much but that was like the moment where i was like all right i can do this on my own you know like i don't my brother i don't need that like hammy or handout you know so i guess that might have been like the turning point in my head where i was like i i can do this and make it if if i like continue this path of like being an individual and thinking for myself and shit dude arcade i
14:27Davis Torgerson:I forgot about that brand. Yeah, it didn't last long. Did they have Brian London on? I didn't even know they did. Casey Wigman was on there at the time. Whoa. Digital lock. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That dude is like one of the most underrated skaters ever. 100%. Switch flip back clips and nollie heel nose grinds back in the day. Nollie heel nose manual. Santa Monica courthouse. You fucking kidding me? Yeah. So sick. So one year you got an RC car for your birthday or for Christmas. Um, what happened when your brother took it for a spin, man? All right. Backstory here. This motherfucker had so much money at the time.
15:07Like he was like 13 years old with like lots of dough, like way too much that he, you know, he shouldn't have had that much money. Hurley was just paying him out the ass. He goes, he's like, all right, I'm going to go buy a gas powered RC car. And I was like, sick. Like, let's go. We go to the hobby store with my dad. Like David didn't even drive at this point. My dad had to drive us over there. And like he pulls up. David buys the nicest one, like 800 bucks, like pull cord, the whole nine, like souped up. It's got like all the bells and whistles. And I think I had like 300 bucks to my name. So I was like, I'm going to splurge.
15:43I'm going to like spend this, this savings money. I'm going to get an electric one. So I got like the one with like the little wheel on the remote. Like David, like we've taken back home. He's like all amped. he pulls the cord and the cord just rips out of his gas one. So it's done. His RC car is done. It's fucked. And then I was like, I was like, oh, hell no. I looked at him right when that happened. I was like, you're not coming towards mine. Like you're not using my, you just broke it off grip. Like I'm not about to let you use my RC car. I was like fucking like nine or something. And he's like, he older brothered me and like got the remote and then started driving around.
16:25The first thing he does, he rams it right in a red curb, like explodes the body, explode the body. And I was like, dog, what the fuck? And he just I just saw red and I went up to him. I socked him in the back of the head.
16:42Little brother shit. Like, fuck you. I knew that was going to happen and you did it. Like you fucking knew it. All your money is gone. Yeah, yeah. My savings gone. Literally. I mean, for him, it was like, I'll buy another one. He didn't even buy another one. He lost interest right away.
17:06There was another time, I don't know if he brought it up to you, but I think in hindsight, I was kind of getting redemption on this one event that we had. And my dad used to weld us flat bars when we were younger. He welded this heinous kink rail, like flat for like two feet, and then like a crazy steep down and then like a tiny little flat. And we'd always just skate the tiny little flat of it. And Dave and I were loading up the rails one day and this motherfucker, I swear on purpose, swings around with the rail and the butt end hit me right in the eye. Like the leg. Like the whole flat bar. It was a massive flat bar, like 12 feet long too.
17:44So there was swing weight on it in this motherfucker. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Jesus Christ. Dude, it gave me a black eye. I was like, I was going to like kindergarten with a black eye. I thought I was all tough and shit, but.
17:58Davis Torgerson:Wow. I could have blinded you, man. Oh, easy. Yeah. And it was like one of those shitty like legs that had like a hollowed out end on it. So it like fully had an imprint on this over my eye. Dude. So you talked about how your brother was already traveling, skating at this point. While he was away, we heard that you used to have a little bit of a side hustle when you're around 12 You would sell his old boards His old shoes even had some regular clientele pulling up to the garage, man. Tell us about this hustle All right, so there's like neighborhood kids We had this park across the street from our house.
18:34There's like a two-stair and a stretch five and like a really bad ledge Like a really fucking bad ledge So I met some homies over there and we ended up starting to like go to the skate park together and shit and then eventually they're like yo what's up your brother's like hooked up like can we get some shit i was like yeah i mean i kind of have this like little seller mindset in me and i was like yeah he doesn't fucking know if anything goes like i got six boards just sitting in the garage right now that he already took off and he skated for a day like you want it for five bucks and the kid's like fuck yeah we want it for five bucks like what do you got and i was like come over the house so i would literally be like all right david's on a session so i would text the homies i had like three homies i was like yo tell your homies to come over like it's all cool my dad's here like we got it and it like i would rummage through his boxes i would grab what i knew he wouldn't wear because this dude this fool would get like four boxes of clothes every month from like America, all these different sponsors, Spitfire and shit and Hurley.
19:39So I'd be like, he's not going to wear this. He's not going to wear this. He's not going to wear this. He won't say this. He won't say that. He won't even know if this is gone. Like I was pretty fucked up. Like in hindsight, it was fucked up for me to do this. But there was like an influx of free shit coming in our house where like I had enough, he had enough, definitely. and it got to the point where like i was just selling old shit at the start and then i was like all right let's push the boundaries here and the homies were like i need a new board i was like all right 20 bucks like and it got to the point where like i think i made like four or five grand over like two years doing it oh no joke i at a certain point i had clothing racks set up in the garage my brother like was on like this company called Ergophobia at the time.
20:33Jehovah rode for it. And like Sean Hill, a couple of dudes. And like Joe Hamicky was the team manager. Rest in peace. Yeah. He started getting all these random clothes. Like Ergo wasn't that cool of a brand or whatever, but I was still like selling them. And that was like his tail end of like getting a shit ton of product. And then I set up a clothing rack in the garage and it had sizes on it. And it took him two years. It took him two years to catch on. and he finally fucking caught on walks in the garage he goes the fuck is this shit like why are there sizes on this on this rack here and I would clear out the rack whenever he wasn't home so he didn't know but there was a small medium large XL I even had like sizes for like boards and trucks up top it got crazy and it got to a certain point where he was like yo I need that bread now because he wasn't making the bread he once was and like he caught on I was like I'm sorry man and he's like fuck you dude like what he's like that's not even like sorry like this is like fucked up and I was like it's free product come on it's not like you paid for it and he's like I know but like you're my brother like there's a fucking principle here come on and I just turned into that and then I stopped selling all that shit and I started getting some stuff myself so maybe I'd like dish out like Like the main homies that bought shit from me, I dish out some stuff to them every once in a while.
22:01And it got to the point where I was getting so much product where I was like, I don't need to sell it. And I started giving them to the homies, Kenny and Pablo. Shout out to them. I would have killed you if I caught you red-handed one time.
22:16Davis Torgerson:We were fighting. That was crazy. So it turned in from the selling clothes. I started selling sodas and snacks at school. because my school got rid of sugar in the vending machines. So all the soda's gone, all the candy bar's gone, all the good shit's gone. So I eventually was just going over to the Albertsons across the street from my school and buying a shit ton of soda and a shit ton of snacks. And I started slaying it at school for two years. It ain't quite true. Middle school, seventh grade, eighth grade, I literally was like dealing drugs the whole fucking time at lunch I'd have like 10-15 kids come up to me I'm gonna need a cactus cooler I'm gonna need a Snickers bar boom dish it out make three bucks off of that just keep it going that's an addiction for you man it was and it's not good cause like I just started gambling on this last swim trip brother with this little bit of money with this little bit of money I make I'm not doing it right That's for damn sure.
23:22Yeah, bro, you've been a hustler since day one. That's impressive. But the vice principal eventually taught me like red-handed. I had like a homie who left school in seventh grade, and he gave me his locker code, and no one took it seventh and eighth grade. So I stored all my shit in there. It was like a different locker away from mine. Covert ops, you know? And this fool, like, he walks into the hallway. He goes, Ethan Lloyd. I go, what? and he goes that's not your locker let me see what's inside i go no and i shut it and he's like no open it back up and i was like why he's like i don't know i've been hearing some things i was like all right which fucking girl ratted on me like which fucking girl ratted on me and i found out who it was i went to a private christian school mind you so it's like big slap on the wrist for doing shit like that but he was kind of like the cool principal he was like action sports principles so he's like this is like the biggest no in god's eyes like this is so disrespectful yada yada yada and i was like dog he would be hyped if i was making money this way like you guys got rid of the goods here like i'm just it's supplying demand that's simple and it was like it's crazy this guy brought god into it he's like you gotta stop you know that right he's like i can't be having this like but he's like i commend you like that mindset can go further in life he's like just apply it to the right things and then yeah that's pretty epic
24:55Davis Torgerson:not under my watch yeah not under my watch so your pops came up a couple times already but tell us more about your dad how influential he was on you and your bros and kind of facilitating skating for you guys filming all that good stuff yeah my dad is like ultimate skate dad couldn't be a soccer dad even if he tried like he'd sit on the sidelines and like clown on the fools who would yell at their kids because that's just like not how he was raised he grew up with like dwayne peters and fucking the scum skaters you know and like he but he like idolized his soy obviously and like He'd show us photos of backyard ramps him and his bros would build.
25:37They'd just go to construction sites and steal everything that they needed. They'd just pull up with a truck, steal all the plywood, fucking PVC coping, whatever they could get. He's got photos like six foot in and then a 10 foot extension on the other side. The ramps did not make sense, but they're as janky as it gets. with like discharge adolescence all this shit like spray painted all over like they were just cross punk surf skate dudes and he'd take david and i out every weekend we'd avoid church by going out and skating my mom was always like sunday you got to beat me and we're like no sunday's skate day like that's the best day to get out my dad would always be like all right we'll go for 20 minutes and then we'll break off and like i'll take you guys out skating so like dudes like figgy and like colin they would all come with us just to church just so they could get out on the session with us after and my dad was the one who filmed my dad had like a gl2 and he was the filmer like there's some legendary clips out there of like my pops filming some crazy shit like figgy one time almost front salad did franklin 18.
26:52you know the one spanky 180 is over wow yeah yeah yeah tossing does the line on the nine stair and turns around skates yeah ardo it up my dad filmed figgy front salad that figgy stuck it like eight times he had like a yellow fedora on or some shit like that but he never ended up landing it but my dad has all that footage like legendary very pinching front salad all the way down at like 14 like fucked up that's crazy wow yeah and my dad's there like gl2 like some fucking carpenter shorts on just getting it so sick he was down for the cause like it just ran in his blood and he was definitely very stoked to have his kids follow those footsteps yeah man i bet he's fucking super hyped with how you guys turned out man yeah i mean Shit.
27:45He's stoked on our success, but bummed that the money doesn't show, I guess. Shit, it ain't over, man. It just takes, you know? No, yeah. Could come. That's what I keep telling him. I'm almost 30. Dad, I'm still doing it. I'm going to keep doing it until I can't do it no more type shit. It's about to hit, man. dude how did you end up skating to Madonna in your boy Scotty's video damn you guys saw that what the fuck that's a deep cut that also might have been like the first part I had in a homie video the video was called Meeps we worked on it for a minute Scotty was the one that filmed and edited but Chris Burkhart was also filming with us Chris is like last resort TM now and shoots for polar in a last resort but um he used to like film gl2 as well so we would get out and like that was chris's introduction into filming but scotty i think resented me a little bit because we rode for etnies at the time like both of us for flow for etnies and i guess i was like the one who was like hooked up out of the whole crew of skaters and he kind of just hit me with the fuck you and put me to material girl madonna now i look at the part like i watched it the other day and i was like yeah shit's kind of fire like i fuck with it like in hindsight it's sick obviously when i was a kid i'm like you bitch like you're fucking coming at me with this for sure like this is shot fired yeah who knows that was just my interpretation of it might have been a little shit when i was younger little chip on my shoulder not the best thing but i'm sure i deserved it so your brother's
29:34Davis Torgerson:uh credit card came up tell us about the sack that you had at the end of that part oh man we went to palm springs my homie had like a timeshare out there and we would do a little like that was our only getaway trip well i think we did an sf trip for that video and then we did a couple Palm Springs ones because we had some homies that like skated out there. They would show us around. There's this triple kink rail that popped up and I was like, holy fuck. Like, maybe I could board slide this shit. Like this could be an ender. So we go there. Homies had lights the whole nine. And like first one I hopped on, I tried to take it.
30:12Like I made it two kinks down, but my weight was not ready. And I just slipped right back. Feet didn't even touch the ground just sack the shit out of it and like it's in slow-mo in the footage but like they play it multiple times my voice is like cracking and i'm like running away just acting like a little fucking shit but i think uh i did it right after that like i had like a few more tries in me and yeah i rolled away from one but but like i could already tell that my the inside of my thigh was like bruising up and shit it was so tense like all right i got a few more and i like luckily got away from one and the next day my whole leg was black and blue yeah you got to get it in that
30:58Davis Torgerson:window asap yeah sometimes you bail but you have enough adrenaline to keep going yeah exactly fucking four tries probably i was like yeah before my little rubber legs couldn't take it anymore so speaking of injuries people tell us you've been injured more than anyone they've seen before but one bad one in particular is your wrist uh they say that thing looked like an s at one point man how how'd you end up getting that thing fixed yeah that was a whole ordeal i had like hmo insurance i don't know if you guys have that in canada but it's like the it's the low tier insurance you get to see the shit doctors the shit everything take forever in the waiting room everything sucks i had the insurance through my dad's work though it's free insurance who can complain you know i was hyped um but the problem with that i broke my wrist when i was six years old and then it just kept trickling same spot over and over and over and over like middle of my wrist i got a whole ass scar on it now i don't know if you can see it's kind of fucked but my wrist is still not perfect yeah anyways i broke it like six times and then by the time I was 14 my mom was like sick of it she was sick of like other families being like I can't believe they don't take care of their children like shit like that like some some like petty Christian shit like some stupid shit but what we were told in the HMO insurance system was that like if I got it fixed when I was 12 I'd have like a stunning arm if they got it if I got it fixed before my ghost spurt and shit so we waited and then eventually got so out of hand like i could rest my wrist on a table and it would just teeter back and forth like there was a there was a point in it that like veed out it was fucked it was like really bad and it was like broke it so many times that the bone thinned out on the bottom and fish boned out so it was thick on the top like that and then it was like thin on the bottom and my shit was just fucked i ended up falling on it so many times I had to eventually get it checked out again.
33:08My mom went out of network, found all these different sports doctors and orthopedic surgeons. And we finally found this Russian dude who like was a USC orthopedic surgeon, like a claim the whole nine. And I go and see him and he was this like Russian strict dude. And my mom's Serbian. So she's like used to it from her grandmother, Eastern European like forefront kind of like personality and right when we walk in he goes how dare you how dare you do this to your child and my mom goes excuse me? you don't understand the system that we're dealt with like this insurance system's fucked she's like we have HMO like all the doctors are telling him that he can't get surgery or else he's going to have a three inch shorter arm on the left side and uh this dude goes no with my hands i'll get him back to normal no big deal he goes this is the third worst deformity i've ever seen he goes and i've been to india he said i've been to india geez he's been he was like in practice for like 30 years too he was a surgeon for 30 years he's like this is the third worst i've ever seen and he's like this should not happen in a first world country he was like losing his mind but eventually like they fully just cut out a whole chunk of my bone sawed it off on both sides and then they flipped it around so that the v was pointed upwards whoa and they just shaved down the bone completely and then they took bone marrow from my hip and like packed it into the little crevices on my wrist and three months go by and that shit didn't even heal i just had a floating bone held together with with uh plates and pins so i had to go back in and get more marrow taken out and they had to do another bone graft to get it all healed so it was yeah it was fucked it's probably the worst pain i've ever had like having a bones together but not formed to the rest of my bone you know yeah that sounds horrible shit was just rattling around all the time it was bad so yeah i got that shit fixed and then went down the rabbit hole of acl tears after that jesus christ damn man how you feeling today i mean there's obviously always still improvement skaters are not too um fond of recovery i know as soon as you're good enough to skate there's days i'll wake up and i don't want to go work out and shit you know
35:44Davis Torgerson:obviously I should but whatever so you've had all those traditional shitty injuries uh glad you're feeling much better today but uh can you tell us about the sex injury we heard about as well what's the story there sex injury why does this not really well Mason said that you popped your knee out while having sex oh yeah that was that was but that was like after that was after a knee surgery so it was like i was getting down with the dirty like trying to get on my knees and like i was not ready for that type of shit yet and fully like my knee just shifted back and it just swelled dude it swelled up like a balloon right away and i like pulled out i was like fuck and i like jumped over to the bathroom and i tried to like straighten my leg out like butt ass naked and the girls was like what's going on like are you all right and i was like my knees my knees swelling up like a balloon i can't even straighten it or bend it like i don't know what's going on i was like we have to take a rain check on this and literally like i i wrapped my knee back up and in my like splint i literally had a fucking splint on or like a boot but i i should not have been on that yet but i was a You won't see a horn ball.

37:03Davis Torgerson:Just on the bottom, man. You tried to flip the situation. Stay on the bottom. I don't know if anyone told you this one, but this isn't like sex-related injury, but it's like a weird injury that I've had. While filming for that swim part, I do this prop-up grate to 5.0 on an electric box in the part. It's this downtown spot nobody hits, but everyone sees tall-ass electric box. It's hard to get to, whatever, but perfect runway. You can get the speed if you want to get the gusto to get up. I tried to nose grind it a couple times for the last trick of that part and couldn't get it. Then I went back for front board.
37:42I don't know why the fuck I chose to front board it. My wheels stuck right when I got on. My board landed primo behind me, and I was expecting to slide out on my ass, you know, like backwards. And I landed straight asshole in the middle of my board. asshole in the middle of my board and I got hemorrhoids from it like fully fucking got hemorrhoids from it like prolapsed anus fucked my shit up I swear my asshole's not even like shaped correctly anymore holy shit dude that one hurt probably the most I couldn't sit for a week and a half straight it was that bad it was so fucking terrible
38:26Davis Torgerson:Wow. Maybe that was the karma of finally biting you from your brother. You've been through some shit, eh?
38:36Cow 3812. That's your name, and you've just been killed. No surprise. You were born a slaughter cow, so you died a slaughter cow. Your meat will probably end up at some beef restaurant eaten by someone who won't even use the energy your meat gives them. And your skin? On the couch where the same person will relax after eating you. Not caring at all. At least that's what you thought. Your skin is sent away, but not to a couch factory. Instead, you enter a factory with three letters of the slaughter cows skin dreams of. MLB. Major League Baseball, baby. You're headed for the pros. Soon, you're white as the lines on the diamond.
39:16Stitched in red like the blood that was once pumped through your veins. You're packed up and shipped out. Where you don't know, but soon you'll see palm trees and freeways. Los Angeles Dodgers baseball. You're not just headed for the pros. You're headed to the world fucking series. Look at me now, slider house. Look at me now. You're dropped in a basket with other balls waiting. Then five firm fingers wrap around you. Kevin Gosman. He grips you tight, pulls you behind his back and fires you forward. You're spinning towards Shohei Otani's bat. You don't know if he'll miss or make contact, but the way he's been hitting lately it doesn't matter how much you've been spinning if Otani wants to hit you he'll hit you and hit you are out of here just when you think you'll actually leave the park a red glove with supreme in the white snags you Atiba Jefferson the skateboard photographer himself caught you the crowd roars his followers explode online you're a celebrity now So needless to say, you're one cocky ball when Atiba places you on a shelf next to some toys and a puck until you hear that puck story.
40:27And who sent you the skin of Cal 3812 to the World Series? You know who did. CHP O 'Brien, the worldwide leader in sunglasses and watches, always doing it for the people.
40:43Davis Torgerson:Take us kind of through your board history riding for Element and then having no board sponsor for a while and eventually getting on swim. So to speak I guess Element would have been my big break. It was the first team I like turned am for. Yeah I rode for them forever. It was sweet when all the homies were on. It was like we had a superstar team at a certain point there and then And things went to shit, but we knew we had camaraderie and, like, good friend group and fucking dope people to travel with. So that was all we cared about. And we had money to do it. So I'm very thankful for those times.
41:19And then eventually, whatever, there was, like, a buyout with some brand that bought Bolcom and a bunch of other fucking surf brands. And they bought Element. Everyone in the U.S. got kicked off, and they just kept their French team for whatever fucking reason. and um yeah it was like westgate was the only one who got saved and there was like a point where it was like everyone could have stuck around and maybe got on this french thing they had going on but i was like this shit's a bop already no one cares for element they never cared for element they only cared for the skaters that rode for it so i started seeing that even before i got the boot and started realizing that shit was gonna go under at a certain point so i was trying to think of next moves but I was also sitting on a video part and yeah that brick quarter pipe I guess just fucked me up like if I would have put the part out six months prior and didn't ever try that quarter pipe trick I could be writing for a different board sponsor potentially I had swim lined up before the part even dropped for Thrasher and right after the Thrasher part dropped I kept hearing a bunch of shit from a few different other companies that they were eyeing me out but i'm honestly more stoked to be with dan and kevin those fools rip they're awesome and it's it's all jokes and it's fun it's not serious we all work jobs like everybody on the team nobody makes fucking money but we do it for the passion and like the love of it still and we get to like make our own graphics which is fun kevin always sees me rip the vape so he was all let's just make a fucking vape board dude fuck it and i was like nah that's fucking stupid and he's like nah fuck it and i was like all right only if we make it the actual size of the vape like a willy wunka chocolate bar we like grab it yeah so yeah just stupid ideas like that like dan just had a reissue where it's like five different costing graphics merged into one there's like nike symbols upside down and there's like a dick in the middle of the board We don't really have a brand image or anything.
43:33We just make what we want and see if people like it. And we can't pay for artists, so Dan and Kevin just have their homies who are down to hook us up with free art, help us out. So that's cool. Dude, swim is fucking epic, man. Good squad, like you said, man. Sometimes it's better to be somewhere where you're happy, you know? And, yeah, I floated for, like, almost a year, and then I just saw Dan at Cha-Cha Bar one night. Mackie came up to me he's like what the fuck are you doing dude he's like you're a year no board sponsor he's like I see all the shit you're putting out like what are you doing I was like I don't know I'm just kind of waiting to like drop this part maybe see if somebody cares and like wants to like hit me up like like the organic way you know I'm not really an outspoken dude like kind of a closed mouths don't get fed type of person so I don't know eventually like yeah it just came to the point where Mac, he's like, fuck it, dude.
44:31Walk over with me with Dan right now. He's like, you need to just be on something. You like swim, right? I was like, yeah, I love what they're doing. Terp's one of my favorite skaters. Dan's so gifted on board. And they just have fun doing it. They don't even care. They don't take it serious. I was like, this shit's cool. We walk over to Dan. He's like, you for real? He's like, I thought you were going to be on some like corpo bullshit. And I was like, nah, I think those times have passed for me like i'm ready to be on something fun and like grassroots i guess and dan literally hit up kevin that night and then the next morning kevin's hit me up about a board graphic that's fucking
45:09Davis Torgerson:sick love how that works the videos are epic too man last one was sick thanks dude i mean i i saw that the episode obviously i shouted you guys out on instagram that's when richie hit me up so i was oh, maybe I had something to do with it. But yeah, thanks for the shout. All the swim dudes are hyped that you guys mentioned it. Dude, speaking of swim videos, probably one of the most unforgettable clips of all time. Your opening trick in your swim part, man. Tell us literally everything about that, dude. So that building's downtown LA. It's the Citibank building. It's the tallest building in our skyline.
45:49And I've been in LA two years now, and I've like been driving Amazon for so fucking long where I see all these spots and I'm delivering packages all over LA. So I come up on a lot of shit. That's like the blessing in disguise with the job. And driving by, I like delivered a package in there one day just to like the front desk. And I was like, holy shit, there's a fucking escalator hubba in here. And I was tripping. And then I told Ryan Lee and he was like, yeah, I've seen that thing before. He's like, I've always wanted someone to do it. I was like, dude, I want to try that like really bad. And him and Papke and I were like out skating one day.
46:29Honestly, I think I tried the lip slide on the brick quarters and it like didn't work. And I just gave up quickly. And I was like, I need something like to amp me up because that whole scenario, that brick quarter pipe just discouraged the hell out of me. Yeah, we go over there and it's like a one shot type of thing. The roll away is the front desk of the security desk. So we like we we there's this plan every time I go in there. I've been there three times now. But the first time we tried to like finagle the security guards, you can like walk up top and skate on this like courtyard area. So I like went up there and like skated and then walked out and watched the security guard walk up the escalator.
47:14And then I walked up and then that one try and there was a security guard that was like behind some glass doors. I didn't see and that was big birth that was big birth that walked through and I I didn't even try it once yet I'm maybe I did maybe I tried grind and then just like jumped onto the stairs really fast and then I was like oh shit she was already at the bottom of the stairs and I was like fuck it dude I need to try and take this thing like it's begging for it I need to try and take it and yeah I get on it or like right before I'm about to pop I tell the lady I was like, I'm not going without making it to the bottom of this thing.
47:55So either you move or I'll see you at the bottom. And I wasn't trying to be a dick, but I was like, this is my way down. I'm leaving the building, hitting this obstacle. And she goes, uh-uh, no, you're not. No, you're not. And I go, watch. I hopped on backgrind, grinded all the way down. I was like, oh, I'm taking this hoe. I'm about to fucking roll away. I was like stoked. And then I hit the sloop at the bottom and it just looped me out. Like I didn't expect it. Hit the sloop, just fucking bowling pin rolled right into her. Her titties crushed my neck, dude. And I had whiplash. I had whiplash for like two weeks.
48:39I'm not joking. Wow. It was, she must've been like 350 pounds. It was a lot of weight. Oh yeah. It definitely hurt me more than it hurt her. because I took her fall for her. It was rough, but she broke her walkie-talkie, and it sounded like she slammed on the ground really hard. Right away, I was like, fuck, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do that. I didn't mean to do that. She's like, no, we got that on film. You're fucked. You're fucked. You're fucked. I was like, no. I was like, that was an accident. I was like, but I told you I was coming down. I was like, why didn't you move? like you really didn't believe me she'll no i didn't think your ass was gonna go down that thing and then ryan lee's just chuckling the whole time while filming he's chuckling and there's like more to that clip like he's filming on the walkout and like papkey is already outside because he doesn't want to deal with the commotion and ryan's walking out the doors with me i was like holy shit did you get all that and ryan's like yeah dude and we just like walked out and as we're walking out fucking five security guards start chasing us like like some skate three shit like when you're bombarding the spot like the whole the whole horde just came in and like i was parked on the side of the street right in front of the building not smart but we walked across to the car like it's all good and then ryan turns around he's like oh shit let's fucking go like we gotta dip right fucking now and the security like pulls up in a golf cart on the main street on like los angeles avenue and downtown like trying to block cars and shit trying to block box me in while i'm parked dude and i was like fuck this dude i like shimmied out sped the fuck off in my prius like probably haven't gone faster than my prius before wow well yeah that was that i mean i never got word of any lawsuit or anything i mean blessings to that lady she took it like a champ that is the most epic clip of all time we were gonna use it in the thrasher part but like they're all scared of getting sued and shit so i got scratched and kevin was like i don't give a fuck let's put it on our
50:54Davis Torgerson:youtube front and center um your my war was absolutely insane probably one of the most epic battles at a famous spot um is there anything uh about that story that you want to add and just let the people in on sounds like that shit was bumming you out for a while obviously you can tell i got a bit of a temper in that footage but uh it definitely stems from hockey that hockey temper comes out for sure while carrie gets it sometimes oh yeah putting that much strain at being that mad at a spot is definitely what like hindered me from doing it and i had that mindset for probably 20 sessions at least and it was like 26 times or some shit so like at the beginning i had a lot of faith first four sessions i was fucking stoked on it got into one but i would slip back or or stick and fall forward i was never on top and could like slide it i never got one where i like slid it where my body weight was centered over it and that make was the only one that i was center over the top and actually sliding and rolled away exactly how i envisioned wow and it's it's all thanks to like the people who were there that day was such a weird crowd of dudes kind of like a bunch of different crews in LA just met up because everyone was hearing about me trying this shit for so long where kind of every crew got their own little session and saw me freak out and shit yeah that rollaway day was just completely different the dudes there were like I don't know it was just a special day two tricks went down before I skated and I didn't want to push it that day I didn't want to make it about me or like the Ethan show so Evan got a trick fucking roman got a trick and yeah and then i was both them were just like staring at me like it's your time now i was like dreading the run like that run is the main thing that i would not want to do because it was like a 200 yard dash like straight to it yeah it was a lot and like all the steps had to be so precise to make the run up perfect for me with like the push and like if you see in the footage i'm like pushing and carving in and then carving out it was it just all had to be so fucking perfect and those bricks toss you left and right i never really had a straight line until that that one i landed damn yeah i got real lucky but at least it's in the past now dude it's a clip yeah it's done i want to like damn near put a bounty for somebody else to try that shit because you want someone else to deal with that i want somebody i want to see if somebody else can deal with it on easier terms well and uh lighter news uh can you tell us what happens when you get cocky at the strip club and yell how much money you've made on the slot machines there i mean you're blessing the homies at least the homies are getting free drinks they're getting some dollars to toss around uh but yeah i was getting pretty damn cocky i never lost money that night but uh the next day we were going to eugene and drison was trying to trick on this bump over bar and i went to take a shit and i was like when i went to take a shit it was in a bar and they have like slot machines all over oregon it's like a lottery state so um And I walk in, I like finish taking a dump and I walk out.
54:37I was like, let's see if my luck's still good. I already won like 300 bucks on the trip from like three different bars or slot machines that we went to. And I walked up, played for 10 minutes, won 80 bucks and walked out. That's pretty sick. Literally took a shit and won 80 bucks and then went and watched Dyson try a trick. And then, yeah, I thought my luck was still good. And I tried this long ass board slide and my body was like, fuck, no, you can't skate. Like, what are you doing? What are you thinking? Yeah, you got luck on the slot machines, but not with skating today, buddy. I guess I just got so cocky.
55:16I came back home and I started gambling and lost a shit ton of money. No. I thought I was the shit. Yeah, no, no, no. Fucking hell.
55:24Davis Torgerson:House always wins, man. The longer you gamble, the more you're going to lose slowly over time. I paid like$300 on my credit card bill. There you go. Keep it in check, though, man. Slippery slope. So we heard there was an incident when Riley, Figgy, and your brother were playing in a rock band. And you had an air soft gun. What's the story there? Yeah, it all just comes back to my little shithead temper. I think they were all playing in David's room, which was also my room, but I had to wake up for school the next morning and these fools didn't have any schedules. They were all homeschooled and just lived skate life, traveled all the time and whatever.
56:12I would envy, but I would try and stay up with them and play video games. but I was on top bunk so I was trying to fall asleep and David was just being hella obnoxious and obviously probably Figgy and Riley they were like they were like 14 at the time I was still young so 10 they're playing and I got so mad that like I couldn't fall asleep that I like jumped off the bed and I was like fuck it dude let me play and they're like no we don't have enough controllers sorry you're not playing i was like fuck you dude and i like took the airsoft gun i like was going to shoot my brother's leg but instead i shot the tv so i just ruined the fun fucking just spiderweb the whole tv while they were playing like we golf or some shit bro how do you miss the leg and hit the tv i'm pretty positive it ricocheted because i like didn't deliberately aim at the tv but if i did that's even funnier but i don't remember deliberately aiming at the tv that's fucking savage man it was probably midnight and i had to wake up at like 7 a.m that's too good man give us the best story you've got about your brother david used to get obviously so much fucking free product that like he would give it out to all the homies like he'd give out his converse shoes america shoes whatever the fuck at the time it was at this time it was like dominic walker was with us and our friend miles it's like fucked up to think about in hindsight but like he hooked him up with so much shit along along this like year span of us skating or whatever and we're in san diego we went to the birdhouse warehouse to skate the skate park and we went to a parking lot to get food and both dominic and the homie miles had like the worst shoes on possible, like the worst shoes, like fucking ripped to shit, like socks peeking out the bottom of the rubber, you know?
58:10So David's like, these fools are like begging him for shoes for like two or three days straight. And when we're in San Diego, we're getting food. David's like, you know what? This will be fun. He just throws two pairs of shoes on the roof and he said, go get them. And this was like, this is like a supermarket, like a tall ass, like a really tall roof. So they ran to the back. They found some, like, dumpsters to get on. And then David and I are just sitting at the front of the store, like, there's no way they're going to get these shoes. They're just going to rot up there. And I'm, like, a little shit, so I probably thought it was super funny.
58:47And, like, David was just like, you guys are bothering me about free shit, so here it is. Like, he was just kind of sick of it in his mind. But in hindsight, it's pretty fucked up to make your two friends go and, like, chase after some free shoes. They got them, though? They both got them, yeah. At a certain point. That's all you need to do. We look up, and they're holding up the shoes by the laces. And both of them are fucking stoked. And for, like, two weeks straight, they had brand new, fresh Converse on. Oh, that's fire, man. At least they got them. All right. So, speaking of you having a little bit of a temper and video games, I heard there's a video game, Anger, current capo story man uh what's the story there yeah that story is wild uh it was like a weekend getaway we would do this at each other's houses like it would be like louis curran or our house and like my brother rode for hurley with curran so like david would kick it and go up to ventura at curran's or vice versa back to ours and this weekend in particular it was like pretty sure it was louis curran taylor kirby and riley hawk so it was like all these homies at the house it was like big skate weekend planned it was gonna be huge i was like fuck all the homies from all these different cities are in town this is sick and they're like we're they're we're about to go to the hot tub and we were playing video games curran said something like heckling against me and all i just we had this like we foam golf club like you'd attach the we remote to like like a foam golf club and it was on the counter.
1:00:22And I didn't even think I just grabbed it and whacked him in the head with it. Like whacked him right in the head with it. I didn't even think I was just like, grab it. I was like, fuck you. Boom. Just smacked him. And my dad was in the living room and watched it happen. He's like, what the fuck? And Kearn's like holding his face. He's like, dude, like it was, Oh my, it didn't like hurt him, but he was like, what the fuck? shocked like fully shocked and my dad came right over to me grabbed my collar and goes you're grounded for the whole fucking weekend no because you're not you're not going out skating damn like that was it that was that was my end all to the fucking sick ass like homie weekend was it worth it nope it wasn't it wasn't damn but it's something kern and i laugh about in hindsight now It's Max Fulman.
1:01:14That shit was funny. Wow.
1:01:15Davis Torgerson:Yeah. So what's next for Ethan Loy, man? What are you cooking up? Right now, just filming again after that swim project. I got some shit still stacked up that didn't get used. But yeah, filming, shooting photos, just probably another swim project. We kind of do it on our own dime. So it's whoever has footy. We just drop it with some product. And then we're working on like a swim article with closer to try and get the brand more well-known. It's going to be like a massive article in like a few months here. Sick. So that should be cool. Yeah, getting out and shooting. Doing the damn thing. Love that, man.
1:02:04Davis Torgerson:Yo, yo, yo. It's Rapid Fire with the Ghost. And this week, we're honored to be brought to you by Crooked Skateboards. Crooked's fall two drop is in shops now and it's a barn burner. The mind bender himself, Joel Mineholes, has a Miami Doubt guest pro zig zagger. Davis, don't even think about dropping that as a hint on Random Skater. Ronnie's got a glittery new Guerrero dub shape. Una's board has an off-white top, black rail and off-white bottom. They've also got new boards from Mike, Tom, Andrew, Brad and Eddie. Oh, and the switch trade legend Mr. Warris has a new DBX construction board with glow in the dark ink.
1:02:47Davis Torgerson:Fall drop three is right around the corner. And we heard Crooked teamed up with a snack man in NYC for something extra special. You know what it is. Get it straight. Ride Crooked.
1:03:01Davis Torgerson:All right, Ethan. A little rapid fire cuz. You ready? All right. Let me get my... Oh, shit. I love a notepad, dude. It's on an insurance bill. I love it, man. Let's rifle these off. Favorite skater? Stefan Janowski. Fire. Favorite video? I'm going to have to say Stay Gold because that was very influential in my upbringing into skating. and being a part of the industry and like seeing how hard you should go to like make your shit worth it yeah your boy figgy favorite video part jerry sue bag of suck hell yeah hands down favorite style fuck since i already said jerry i'm gonna go mark johnson nice which skater had the biggest influence on the way you skate jake johnson most talented skateboarder on planet earth marley humphrey whoa favorite trick i'm really into these like impossible like half impossible things right now it looks like a shove it but you like wrap your foot a little bit with it it's fun suctions up to the feet all nice it feels good nice hardest trick for you switch tray oh oh don't do me like that man yeah i know tell me about it that hurts your soul I think I've landed two in my whole life.
1:04:32Most illegal trick? No slide to crooks, dude. Fuck. Trick's terrible. Every kid and their mom thinks it looks good. They have no idea what they're doing. Favorite clip you've ever gotten? Probably that lip slide, even though I hate it the most.
1:04:53Davis Torgerson:Love-hate thing. I feel you. What's the worst trend you've been a part of? skinny jeans, long shirt, shoelace belt, that whole nine. That shit was fire, man. Don't hate on that. Dude, there's one clip. I went to Minnesota for a skate contest and I was filming with Tim Fulton before he was involved with Deluxe and all that shit. I board slid, front shoved this loading dock out rail. It was the ones you could raise and all that shit. I had pink tight pants. oh hell no it was like a faded red like illegal as fuck and i had like a flip eric fletcher beanie on you remember that striped one he'd always wear it was like a gray black with a red stripe i had that shit and then shoelaces just like dangling from my cop like all the way down to my knees didn't even fucking didn't even like bunny ears it just let it go yeah we need that He was probably past my crotch, too.
1:05:57Brutal.
1:05:59Davis Torgerson:That's epic. What's the gnarliest trick you've ever witnessed? Does it have to be a land? No. Okay, Nigea backside flip down on Toro. It was fucked up. He gave it five tries and stuck every single one of them. Gnarliest. There was one try where his shoes exploded off his feet from how much impact there was. Wow. I feel like if you put a gun to his head now to try a trick, he would do like switch frontside flip. Yeah, I couldn't see him backside flipping it. I think he wanted to backside flip it because him and Sheckler had beef.
1:06:34That's fucking hard. Because Nija bought a warehouse that was across the street from Sheckler's skate park. And he like made his own skate park. Kind of has a fuck you. It's pretty funny. How did the beef originate? I think it's just Nige coming into San Clemente and infiltrating Sheckler's scene. Yeah, kind of stepping on his territory. Felt like it was too close to home for him. But what did Sheckler do? Yeah, Nige didn't give a fuck.
1:07:02Davis Torgerson:Did Sheckler do something, though, for the beef? I'm positive he did, but I can't remember. It's shit so long ago, and I didn't really give a fuck anyways. I just thought it was funny that he was going to backside flip El Toro to just rub it in his face and then it kind of backfired on him he got like double bruised for a few months
1:07:29Davis Torgerson:what's the one trick that got away shit dog you might stump me here I literally tried a few things for the thrasher part but didn't get them. Nothing in specific, but just stuff that I wish I would have gotten to round it out more. Yeah, all good. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. What's the biggest bunt you've ever witnessed? You guys will like this one. So my homie, Josh DiMarzo, he had a part in that Meeps video. His nickname's Bug. His title is a praying mantis. He's just this skinny, lengthy kid. He used to babysit me when I was younger, actually. And then we like, we ended up skating the skate park and like found out like just by skating.
1:08:18He's like, you're Loy? He's like, I used to babysit you when you were in diapers. I was like, what the fuck? Damn. And this fucking guy, like Tiago would come to Santa Ana Park and he'd like bro down with Tiago. He was boys with all the Brazilians because he was ledge tech homie. Worst style. Like worst style. Couldn't have been worse. And like the way he set up dog like was like he would do his his like banger trick was nolly big heel back when he knows grind on a ledge. What the fuck? Like insane. He does it in that video meeps too. But this dude used to do nolly big heel front boards all the time.
1:08:56That was like his trick on the flat bar at the park. Horrible. And like we get this thing called Santa Ana Winds out in Orange County in LA like rolls through. It's like just fucked up weather 20 30 mile-per-hour winds just bullshit dust flying around and we're at the skate park at the time and all that weather shit's happening the homie Josh he sets up so close together Like so fucking close for nolly big heel like his this is his nose And his foot's right here like not joking you right at the bolt set up to him Like that was the only way he could get up to shit. You didn't have much pop and me and the homie Scotty are watching him try it and we would just crack up because he does the gnarliest shit but he'd just approach it all funny, you know?
1:09:42And this one particular day it was so fucking windy the wind blew him over when he was rolling up and setting up for the trip. The wind blew him over. No joke. He fell to the ground because of how close his stance was and he just had no balance.
1:10:00Davis Torgerson:Oh, shit. that's wicked shout out to the homie nollie big heel front board that's a crazy trick but um nollie big heel back right I can't see nobody do that that's G I'll give it to him I mean it's illegal as fuck don't get me wrong but just nollie back heel into it but it's impressive exactly like make it look good and steezy but he was more like Let's make it as Brazilian as possible, as tech as it can get. What's the last new trick you learned? There's this pole jam at South Pass, and I was learning backlit fakies up it. That was fun. It's just a flat pole jam off a flat ground. So instead of just doing front board up it, treat it like a back lip and go to fakie.
1:10:52It was really cool. I've been doing those.
1:10:56Davis Torgerson:Nice. Dream job after skating?
1:11:01Get paid for skating.
1:11:08No, I'll probably just move higher up in production. I work production jobs and shit like that. So be like a production manager where you make like$800 a day and bank out. Make it easy on yourself. Nice. Hell yeah. Favorite local brand? Red Rum Dog Pound.
1:11:27Davis Torgerson:Favorite local skater? Justin Dreisen. Legend. Sick. Yeah. What's the one sponsor you regret riding for? Element.
1:11:44Favorite teammate ever? It's kind of a double-edged sword. I'm going to say Nick Garcia, but he's also the worst teammate too. He's probably the worst teammate as well.
1:12:00Davis Torgerson:Okay. So should I even ask? No, you don't even have to ask for his teammate. He's the best, but he's also the worst. He's like Captain Chaos. If we're not focused on skating or have to skate or we're not on a skate trip, he'll just divert and we'll party for two weeks straight. We went to Copenhagen Open and just continued it in Barsie and Paris for fucking two and a half weeks. I fainted twice because of how much I was drinking. Jeez. walked out of the subway train in Paris and literally just collapsed to the ground. Wow. Woke up from a blackout with just French people standing. Wow. It's some alcohol withdrawal after that trip, man.
1:12:43Hell yeah. Fucking no food. Thinking I don't need breakfast. That whole nine. Think again, buddy. I don't know.
1:12:53Davis Torgerson:Worst company?
1:12:58Currently? Sure. I know you guys want to hear current. Let's do a new one, man. I'm going to say April Skateboard. Oh! Oh, hell no. Shit. It's getting spicy. We just had Deshaun in the building, man. That was an easy one. I had that loaded. I had that loaded. Not even the Corpo brands. They're all right in my book. April. What the fuck are you doing, Shane? taking off my boy ish fuck off oh shit it's personal graphics ass videos ass
1:13:46Davis Torgerson:damn bro I don't even know what to say we just had bro ski Deshawn on that's a crazy one two follow up but to each their own oh Deshawn's a homie but Ethan, taking no prisoners today, man. I'm number five. Fuck. All right. Worst trend? Jorts. They're everywhere. You can't escape those, bro. I'm no saint. I own a pair myself.
1:14:23Yeah. I tried to wear them. Nah. Fuck no. It's a terrible trend. Doesn't work. Doesn't look good. Get out of here with that bullshit. Go back to elementary school with that shit. That's fucking crazy. You look too much like a child out there.
1:14:40Davis Torgerson:Ew. All right. Worst style. Jagger Eaton. X-Up team.
1:14:49Davis Torgerson:Oh, shit. Yo, the X-Up is crazy. I got it. X-Up war. I got her. He's X up Lloyd. That's one of the worst. I mean, there's fools like Trent X's up, but he makes it look good. Miles Silva's X's up, and he makes it look good. But, like, dog, not. Not Jagged Eaton. The X is a weird. X up King. I love that. It's a weird one to do because it's definitely you're doing it on purpose. And I remember being influenced when I was super young. Our friend Johnny Tang, legend. I don't know if you know him. Lives out in Shanghai. Yeah, yeah. no i've heard of johnny chang yeah he's the man but he used to do it when we were still like you know 14 or something and he's a couple years older so like i i caught myself trying to do it a little bit just because he was the man but that's something that like you got to grow out of that man it's like the dog paw too you remember that shit when fools used to do like the steezy dog paw like yeah i've never heard dog paw but that's awesome yeah what did we used to call it like i guess that could have been under worst trend too uh people used to it's like caution hands people used to call we had a name for that back in the day that's like after rowan like this one like dog dog paw was like 2006 2008 yeah yo donald come on we we had a name for it i can't remember what yeah no 100 and we had a name for it here in toronto but i just can't remember what it was but dog paws good yeah and yo sometimes i catch myself still doing it to this day you just did a wall ride in cincinnati yeah yeah but that's like me trying to be funny you know wait what's that i just did one like like joking around the other day but that's what i'm trying to do like fake fake steez like for a joke the natty dot the natty paw might come out sometimes yeah like on accident because you're rolling away and you just fucking have you have swag when you roll away like that's cool that's all right but like the purpose the purposeful dog paw there's you know who i'm talking about you know what i'm talking about like fools would do that with every trick is all yeah like trying to be like the delicate shit like i'm so like yeah that didn't last either yeah but then caution hands came in yeah sometimes i mean but that's like that's for Johnny 10.
1:17:14That's why you catch yourself doing it. It's for Johnny 10.
1:17:17Davis Torgerson:Yeah, exactly. I feel like I still feel it every once in a while. And it's when I just throw my board down and I'm like just cruising, like crossing the skate park or something. I don't know why. And then I'm like, ah, put my hand down. No dog paws around here. You'll catch yourself. Yeah, exactly. You're like, snap your own ass. That's too good. All right, Ethan. Last but not least, man. who's the last person you want on the sesh i did answer that one ben fucking fisher oh shit i knew him yeah story here barracks guy he was all over the barracks at a certain point i remember the name for sure he was hot for a second but he used to get birdhouse boards when i was like brother flow and i went on a birdhouse session at when i was like 11 this motherfucker stole my skate tool no one's ever stolen my school damn fucking kooked it kooked it yeah that ain't right he's like 10 years older than me well that's like my pride and joy that's that's my bread and butter i need that tool yeah that ain't right dude keeping receipts ben fisher i haven't heard that name in a minute love it i normally don't keep receipts but when that question came up i was like he's the only dude i can think of off the top of my head you can't have that bro we can't be having that shit no i mean whatever ben fisher you'll live you're in real estate well ethan man you came through you told some epic stories you talked your shit you did your thing man thank you so much for coming on the pod studio e let's go baby
1:19:11welcome back to random skater of the week the fastest growing segment on youtube hosted by our good friend davis torgersen and brought to you by mob grip the number one choice of professional skateboarders worldwide and the reason's obvious man It's the grippiest. There ain't no doubt. And this week, a blast from the past. Alex Olsen in the building. Wow. Let's crack it, man. Fuck you, huh?
1:19:40Cool. I mean, like the interview was so long ago. It's cool. Nice plug. Real quick. Catch us up on what you've been up to, man. It's been a minute. That's it? That's what? Congrats. Yeah. 2-0.
1:19:54Davis Torgerson:Just a quick summary of the last seven years. Yeah, exactly. Hold on. I don't know. I had two kids. So I'm dealing with that. Yeah. Fatherhood's real. Yeah. That's awesome. I'm dealing with a back injury from whatever. I don't even know. From two kids? Yeah, literally. I'm like, oh, you know, like those commercials where people bend down and spring back up. grabbing their back that's me now you're like the people in infomercials now or you just like can't function in life dude i well i got a scan it was like herniated disc but it's the worst chronic pain you'll ever fucking deal with it feels like a rolled ankle and your bat tailbone basically you know when i'm sorry a rolled ankle when like it's getting it's better you can walk on it and but like slightly hurts when you bend it in a certain way that's what it feels like Alex has a rolled ass you said it I didn't are you back in California yeah nice oh yeah have you you've seen a couple of these you know like the gist of what we're about to do yeah you don't need to explain the rules for me I'm good well I won't explain them for you I'll explain them for Sapa he's on a losing streak yeah
1:21:24Davis Torgerson:just gonna be listening off clues with random skater you get three guesses guess at any time you can ask questions okay shall we get into it let's fucking do this let's do it okay previous teammates of the skater include Peter Smolik Eric Koston and Tom Penny okay so it's pretty tight smaller the golden era uh this skater started off flow for real
1:21:59Davis Torgerson:okay nice yep in a local shop video this skater skated a rod stewart see that's a good clue yeah i guess if i knew the location there's like five people listening that are like i've seen that video yeah um okay i will say all the previous teammates are with one brand list them again okay smolik coston penny the fuck they right yeah i don't know the cost of one's throwing me off and it's boards and shoes we're talking oh yeah do you get to ask you get to ask questions yes i typically stick to board brands and shoe brands for the for the shared teammates oh but it's not all on one these particular teammates all skated for the same brand as this random skater so it's one one company they all shared Okay.
1:23:07Davis Torgerson:That's hard. So Smolik, I'm sorry. Just the Smolik wrote. Go for it. And Tom Penny is a Oshu. Okay, okay. It's like Etnies or something.
1:23:25Davis Torgerson:This skater had a day in the life in 411 issue 50. Oh, Chad Muska.
1:23:33not chad muskett fuck it i knew i could not do that i did it that sounded so confident that
1:23:39Davis Torgerson:sounded so great because he hosted the 50 four and one oh did he not we better i don't know i will say that this random skater also had the cover of four and one issue 50 jamie thomas oh you're right fuck it is fucking jamie tombs damn it see yo mason you punk bitch this has got to do with mason oh yeah he was chan i am slipping you guys are getting them quick oh shit back five oh the massive green yeah i'm back motherfucker yo the green yeah he remembers he remembers did he not did he not host it though i i don't know there's one the one where he's like with his hat and his fingers up in the air with like fucking five ring.
1:24:29Davis Torgerson:Yeah. I remember that one. It wasn't 50 then. Whatever. Maybe it was 60. Was it 60? Well, that's dumb. Anyways. Wait, what was the brand that they all rode for? Alex had it. It was Etnies. No way, way back. Yeah. They were all in high five. Yeah. Oh, it's a front board. Did you say back five up? I thought it was a back five. I think it is like a green rail, right? No, it's a silver rail, is it? I think it's gold. Let's see. We're fucked. Show it. Yeah.
1:25:09It kind of looks green there, you know? There's some patina going on. The gold issue. Fuck. How photo was that? Jesus fucking Christ. Dude, keep going with the clues, man.
1:25:19Davis Torgerson:Had a Thrasher cover doing a switch lip. Well, now that you know the skater, it makes more sense. The skater had a cover and the caption on the cover was the best skateboarders in the world. The guitarist for the band Blur wrote a song with this skater's name as the title. Okay. I'm just kidding. An X Games gold medalist turned pro for experienced skateboard. Is listed as an additional filmer in the DC video. It's kind of cool. Was featured in an ad in PETA's magazine. just kill the mosquito as we talk about PETA yeah exactly wow that was so on point shit dude I thought you had it man I honestly thought you had it there there was a foreign if we gave the wins to how confidently someone says an answer you fucking won for sure yeah I was like for sure I was like oh I'm gonna get out real fast well i mean you sold they were both like fuck it is chad musk oh huh no because there is a 411 cover that yeah you're probably right but then all right someone actually got it from a 411 clue that was that's cool that's never happened yeah but you added multiple 411 clues in you're forcing the 411 clues fucking hell the next one was probably another all right alex that's so funny thank you for you later guys thank you for having me too next time we're in la or cali we gotta we gotta link up man yeah for sure all right see you guys hope your back feels better too g that's me too yeah that's fine all right thanks for cruising dude no problem you've got mail welcome back to the post office brought you by our good friends over at dickie skateboarding Quality workwear since 1922.
1:27:17From the worksite to the streets. Ain't nobody keep you fitted like Dickies, man. All right, Ghost. Packed inbox. Let's try and get through a handful of these things. Who we got up first.
1:27:29Davis Torgerson:All right, post office regular. Getting comfortable in the post office. Let's see what Mr. Waylon Petromole. I know this one's hella random, but I just needed the opinions of someone that I truly respect and appreciate the most, And that's y 'all. Y 'all are my unks, bruh. But let's say this hypothetical situation is like Donovan and Saifa, you guys were friends with somebody at one point and you guys were hella close. But then let's say Donovan and that one friend started beefing and Saifa stayed friends with that dude. but then throughout the time like they're buddy buddy with that guy but Saifas will still come back to you and like talk shit about that friend because he knows that you don't fuck with them what do you do in that situation Dono?
1:28:19Davis Torgerson:like do you still like just respect the fact that Saifas is friends with that dude even though he talks shit about them or do you like stop fucking with Saifas in a way because he's always hanging around someone that he knows you don't fuck with and he plays buddy buddy like okay i fuck with this dude i'm gonna hang out with him but when i'm hanging out with you i'm gonna talk all this shit what would you do in this kind of situation because i don't know my homies are fake
1:28:50wow uh the truth came out at the end i was like bro this sounds way too complicated to be some like hypothetical post office question uh waylon in here looking for some life advice from unks um how old are you man we're unks dude dude we're almost 40 yeah we're unks what are you
1:29:10Davis Torgerson:talking like sometimes i'm just curious how old he is he sounds 22 or something so that's fair
1:29:20um what do i do in this i mean save it can be friends with whoever he wants you know what i mean luckily we don't have this problem where we like our friends with an individual that one of us doesn't like you know i mean as kids you know you get into arguments with your friends and don't don't chat with them for a couple weeks and she gets weird in the little squad but um no i think i'd be chill like the talking to you about the guy i already don't like is that's the weird part i understand that sentiment but i truly at this like point in our lives i don't think we would care
1:30:02Davis Torgerson:yeah i i don't think i would care unless the person wronged me or wrong donald then it would be a little different but we usually like and don't like the same people for the most part when we were younger i feel like i used to like a lot of people that you and cody and stuff would like chirp me and cody would call me lisa simpson because i have too many friends like yo so-and-so's whack like why are you nice to them i'm like yo i don't know i'm just i'm not trying to beef everyone but that's more of a cody thing probably less you um but yeah i think that talking like being friends with the person but then talking shit about them to you is kind of whack like they should just just don't even bring that person up yeah so that is kind of fake but uh i'm sorry you're going through that awkwardness with your homies sir whalen best of luck out there yeah that's an odd one man you just got to do whatever you want you know like i'd straight up tell say like yo i already don't like him i don't need to hear you beginning to not like him either either you get on this bandwagon with me or you stay liking them you just go on and do whatever you want man uh hope it works out for y 'all man all right next up we've got a voice note from peter morris let's take a listen hey guys really enjoying the season um i'm gonna try to keep this short but i told this story to my friend chris who's a big fan of the show and he thought it was funny and asked me to tell it to you guys so here it is um all right so i'm 31 now but back when i was probably 11 i think um the shop that was my local the edge put on a big game of skate at uh the portage skate park which had just opened like kind of recently and they had like floodlights the game went really long there was a lot of people in the game of skate all of which were way better skaters than me um but i'd been practicing a bunch of uh illegal tricks which i just thought were like amazing tricks and uh so i had them dialed in my kickflip body varials my holly north's pressure flips all that stuff um so anyways going through the bracket I'm somehow beating some guys that are much better skaters than me and um the night's going on it's getting long it comes down to me and this kid Zach Zach Bauman very sick skater um love his skating to this day but uh anyways it's me versus him he's a couple years older than me he is like nose blunted the 10 stare at our local park he's uh he's done a bunch of crazy stuff like that you know he's way out of my league i've like ollied a sixth stair at this point and just skated a bunch of flat ground um but anyways i'm playing him and it gets to t to t i've done like a bunch of illegal moves on him already and then um so he falls it's my turn to set and i do a switch ollie north and he falls the first time second time he falls on it everyone's watching everybody starts to boo when i won and i'm like wait what i just won the whole thing like come on y 'all i don't understand so they like give me my prize and shame give me the gift card to the shop and like some wheels and whatever and the dude's like looking at the ground when he gives it to me and i'm like oh my gosh i'm a kook and uh i like went home and like didn't sleep that night basically realized like oh wait the reason nobody does these tricks is because they don't like them they're like almost not real tricks and it like freaking changed my life um it's hilarious now to look back on but yeah dude switch ollie north of pain and so my friends still bring that up to this day like when i'm trying to figure out what trick to do on something they're like yo how about switch ollie north and uh it hurts but it shaped me to who i am today so i'm thankful for it but But anyways, yeah, there's my story of pain.
1:34:25Davis Torgerson:Love you guys. Hope you have a great evening. Keep it up. Blessings. Bro. I mean, we usually don't let three-minute voice notes slide into the post office, but that was fucking epic, man. True villain story right there. Yeah, that was incredible. Thank you for sharing. no question needed that was just a great time and glad you learned from it that's the most important thing it is kind of harsh that a whole scene of skaters booed an 11 year old uh i guess wicked that was whack as hell but that's crazy to boo a kid uh everyone else should have just stepped up and beat him um but you learn from it that's all that matters that was that was amazing story thank you dude how can the kid not get a switch ollie north man like just switch ollie and figure it out bro you deserve to lose on switch ollie north if you can't figure a way to get a little air feet in two tries yeah that's that's very true just do like a shitty rocket switch ollie take your foot off like somehow some way dude i'm so hyped you won that shit that's awesome dude i'm proud of you all right next up we got an email from uh michael hey safe and donald this is mike from providence rhode island long time first time i'll keep it swift with two questions who the hell creates the ad reads for chpo brand and two what's the longest battle you've had for a trick i'm talking days weeks months of going back uh for the same shit or for some shit.
1:36:11Davis Torgerson:Keep doing what you do. Thanks, guys. Oh, and shout out Civil Skate Shop.
1:36:18Ad reads. Ad reads are done by the owner of CHPO, Victor. Absolute legend. Good friend of the show and of ours for probably like eight years now. Something going on that, right? It's like an OG. We've gone through a lot of... Yeah, we've gone through a lot of different types of chpo ads we gave away boxes we did movie quotes we did uh product stuff and now he's just said fuck it and let his creative side take over and uh i think it's actually working out because they garner or garner more attention now than they ever have you know it used to be an easy like skip 15 seconds on the pod or whatever it is a couple times and now people are just like what
1:37:07Davis Torgerson:the hell is gonna happen here you can't say that no one skips ads man come on man people just be buying when they hear yeah i skip our own ads no no we watch all of them but now it's a very successful ad more successful than ever we get hit up about it all the time so i think he's doing a hell of a job longest battle to come to mind and it was just like an era high school end of high school and I just remember this because it was like so many times going back in Ben's CRV and your, what did you have back then? The Kia when we would just summer I can't remember what year maybe like 2004 or 5 or 6 when we would just you know go to all the spots and I just remember there was like a month maybe where we would go to you uh we would go to blue or double and commerce 10 all the time and I was trying switch trade at 10 and Ben was trying half cab and then we would both bunt that and then we would go to blue or double and he would try half cap flip and i would try switch back heel and i just remember going back and forth so many nights never coming really close actually no i came close to switch back heel but um it was just it was just like oh like we're bored at night this was before we started partying or anything like that and it was like oh what are we gonna do saturday night just drive back and forth and jump down fucking sets all night so those were two battles that never ended yeah
1:39:00i can't even think of like a long battle i can think of like in a day how long i've tried when i switched backs i'd flip the the wall that was in social withdrawal over by ryerson that took forever like multiple hours uh switch flipst dennis took hours one of those ones where i thought i was gonna run out of pop but didn't somehow yeah i usually don't go back if i can't do it in a day i'm pretty much done with it that's about it there you go i have to go back to get a trick in detroit on the outledge so that one's pending we'll see tried it for probably an hour and a bit last time we were there.
1:39:51Alright, next up, we've got an email from Norby Guerrero. What's up, guys? Sent an email yesterday but thought of another question after watching some Dylan Jave clips. I'm just curious if you guys think he might become the next Man-Am. I feel like I've been watching him skate forever and haven't seen him go pro. Hmm.
1:40:15I don't think so. I think you'll see him go pro. I don't think you got to worry about that.
1:40:21Davis Torgerson:Yeah, that's probably the last person you have to worry about becoming a man. He's one of the most popular skaters, most seen skaters right now, most followed. Like he's his talents on like he's in a very small percentage of talent level. So they're probably just waiting for the right time. and uh I think Keo I'm not gonna try and say his whole name but turned pro for primitive he was on before I think so like he got turned pro before when they did the amp video last year so sometimes you have to schedule those things out right so I just think it only made sense to turn him pro first wait a little longer and then um yeah when he goes pro it's gonna be very well deserved and it's actually kind of sick that he isn't yet it's kind of like uh old school like these days everyone turns pro fucking so fast that uh it'll be a nice old school well-earned occasion uh all right very different now yeah next up we got a voice note from matthew the shooter this is matthew the shooter from san luis obispo california I'd like to defend Ryan Sheckler from the frequent accusations of committing the biggest bunt in history.
1:41:44Davis Torgerson:First, a definition. From your show, we've learned that a bunt means attempting a trick with no realistic chance of pulling it off. The most common forms of bunting include flicking it away immediately, not trying convincingly, or never showing up. Well, we've all seen the footage, and none of his attempts fit the definition of a bunt. He committed each time, sometimes landing perfectly and getting tossed because of the impact, wheel bite, or bent truck. So based on the footage, he showed up, committed, and had a chance of pulling it off. Personally, I feel that each try is more impressive than if he had actually landed the trick.
1:42:27Davis Torgerson:each walk up the stairs to risk another career-ending injury takes bigger balls than rolling away from a perfect landing. So I look at those attempts as multiple non-bunks. Now, he did make a false claim, but this lie was not as deceitful as the numerous published magazine photos, ads, and covers of tricks that were later revealed to be bailed. I would give him probation for premature celebration with time served for the beatings he took at the bottom of the set and all of the shit he's been getting since his bluff was revealed. Now, I've never personally met Ryan, but I'd like to stick up for him because when I lived in New Orleans, he came through a couple times for demos that helped raise money for our local DIY skate park.
1:43:19Davis Torgerson:At one of these events, there was a table full of local fundraising merch for sale, and he bought the whole stock with his personal credit card and then product tossed all of it as an additional gift to the community. So, Dono and Seva, how do you feel about this false claim? Does it fit the definition of a bunt? Congrats for another awesome season. Shout out to Antoine and Richie for making it extra nice. and what up to fellow local bunthole and post office star from last episode, Ben. Yes, shout out your homie for sure. Wow. I'll keep it short and sweet. I agree with everything you said, but the bunt comes in the lie.
1:44:09Davis Torgerson:The lie is the bunt. That's why he gets ridiculed. The attempts were insane. like and we're both fans of sheckler we're not like haters by any means huge fans at the glory challenge he's so nice and it was that was probably i think i said the highlight was just watching him skate in person and actually destroy it everything he's been through physically and stuff surgeries like he's a certified legend but he did i know the phelps pressure just got to him and uh i don't think anyone like calls him a clown for anything it's just fucking hilarious how are you not gonna laugh at that um and that's all that was but uh he's a legend man it's nothing serious there's no serious hate but that time served and all that i like that attempt to protect your boy but he's gonna get clowned for that for forever because it's well deserved that shit was hilarious yeah shout out the shooter came in with a very professional voice note you know um made some great points while the actual backside flip is definitely not a bunt because he landed on it um your definition of a bunt is spot on claiming that him continually trying it is more impressive than landing it is probably one of the most insane takes i've ever heard um yeah because then you would just have people out there trying things and not landing them left right and center but uh yeah it's not a bunt people say that because sometimes people don't really get what a bunt is on the show it's something that we grew up with so that's why we're uh experts in this field but it is one of the the greatest lies told in skateboarding so he'll never live that down time served or not the time is a life lifetime sentence is what he's been handed there's nothing shorter there's no getting out of this early you can't do what he did photos covers not landed all that shit doesn't matter this is sticking with sheckler forever and we love sheckler and i love that he lied about it man good for him dude he just said fuck it tried to make it work didn't happen here we are that was the confidence but great email or voice he thought he was gonna go back and do it it was like not funny part is like i like the confidence that he thought he would get it done by the time and then it would be like his ender in the plan b video or something but if you're just trying to say that the lie is not a bunt because he tried hard the lie is the bunt if we're going with the looser definition of a bunt the attempts were not bunts but anyways appreciate the email should write in more often alright you want to do one more or you want to save it what do you think you got time for one more alright we got Andrew Hartman voice note coming in let's take a listen Drew from Buffalo here this is why I love you guys not only can you dish it but you can take it as well.
1:47:26Pause. Safe apologies for the length of my Buffalo rant. I was still coming off of the Patriots loss, and I was in my feels. But all of your retorts were extremely well taken. Appreciate you kicking it back to me, especially your geography point. I'm kind of a fuck borders guy, to be honest, myself. So thank you for the response. You know it's all good fun. And that's the beauty of these sports alliances is we can talk shit, but it's all in good spirit. A question for you today, not on the Blue Jays. Go Blue Jays. Fucking big, big supporters down here. I hope Toronto can take the cake and beat the snot out of those hoity-toity, bougie-ass Dodgers.
1:48:12My question for you is if you were at a spot and had to pick a walk-up song as you were trying a trick at a spot, what would it be? in honor of, you know, at-bats having to have one specific walk-up song all season. You're at a spot battling a trick. What is your walk-up song to the spot? Anyways, go Blue Jays, go Bills. We go ride the shit till the wheels fall off. Oh, by the way, I was at the gas station the other day, and who do I see pulling in? But it's Jake Donnelly in a white band. I love you, Jake. What up, buddy?
1:48:45I fucking locked the doors and drive away. You see Jake rolling up on you, man. Epic. Epic voice note, man. Shout out Buffalo, dude. We coming back. We coming back. Sunday, man. Let's fucking go, Chiefs. You dig? No, let's go. Bill's Mafia, baby. Now we righted the ship with that win over the Panthers back on track josh allen patrick mahome showdown in orchard park dude save is gonna leave his second nfl game of the year with a loss it's gonna be rough no chance did you see josh allen
1:49:26Davis Torgerson:trying to run away run around i saw one of the memes the next day it was like he thinks he's lamar jackson i was dying he was just i was out it actually made me so happy just seeing him the last couple weeks going back to his old ways like you know he's taking bad sacks turnovers fucking uh yeah they obviously weren't gonna lose that game but he didn't play great okay we're in overtime here quick was there a question oh yeah walk up song yeah we had to pick them i don't fuck we had them for the baseball game for rowan's band shoe one of the funnest days ever when we played the baseball game and we had to pick walkout songs but i can't remember what the fuck they were now do you i always do stone cold where it's like kick through the door and the glass shatters and it's stone cold you gotta hold the wwf yeah yeah fuck i think i had some last for the homie who wanted you to sing last week yeah i can't remember like an insane request i remember you like wanted a song but like a certain 15 seconds of the song yeah and i remember bob was like i don't know if the dj can like handle this request yeah fuck i actually can't remember what it was it was a gig song i'm pretty sure but uh walk out song now dude i'm sorry we're i'm blanking but let's just say this might have been this one
1:51:05wait wait wait and i walk out
1:51:15Davis Torgerson:you know what I'm saying that's how we live ultimate gangsta gigs in two chains let's call that my walkout song love it get your emails, voice notes videos, everything into thebuntlive at gmail.com we are quickly coming up on the end of the season so get your questions in
1:51:47this is the rundown the skateboard world source for sports brought to you by nfl canada each week we spark this shit off with what i'm thinking is one of the greatest additions to the rundown in a long time the survivor me versus safer and i got bad news for myself great news for Sefa I went out on a limb you know watching Joe Flacco in person with Jamar Chase doing their thing I thought for sure they'd beat the Jets but then you remember just how bad that defense is and anything can happen and they lost like an absolute joke so I took my first L Bengals couldn't get the job done against the New York Jets Sefa did his thing he took the Indianapolis Colts and they the best team in the league right now and I don't even know if it's close um we'll need to see them have a good test though but uh so the score is two to one now save is inching closer and this week I'm going with the Detroit Lions big divisional game versus the Minnesota Vikings safe is happy about this his main man JJ McCarthy's back thinks it's going to make a difference jj's actually worse than carson wentz so no chance that's how bad this is and uh save is going with the rams versus the saints spencer rattler finally pulled after just weeks of less than mediocrity and uh i don't even know who the next guy's name is it's like hue or
1:53:19Davis Torgerson:shoe or something like that tyler anybody shuck yeah he's awful spender spencer rattler was actually half dc was better than i thought he had a couple good games uh kept them close in some games i felt they shouldn't have been in but uh yeah the rams are they have a good defense it's about to be probably one of the easiest dubs and coming off a buy probably get puka back oh yeah puka's back um yeah light work man i don't know where the game is being played but I don't even think it matters at all. It doesn't matter. They could play that shit in Scarborough and it wouldn't matter. In LA? The Saints need to do what's right and rescue Jameis Winston from the bench.
1:54:09There are lots of teams out there that should just pay Jameis Winston to play because he's more exciting and more fans will come into the stadium. Like Spencer Shuck, that's his name? He's playing over Jameis Winston. Tyler Shuck. They could have combined both of their names. And it wouldn't help then. But anyways, that's the rundown. Survivor pool. 2-1. Save us within striking distance. He's got the Rams. I got the Lions.
1:54:41Davis Torgerson:Light work. Was it last week? Maybe the week before. Whatever. We're always kind of talking MVP race in the NFL. And it's always dueling quarterbacks. I think Baker was our pick for a little bit having an excellent season daniel jones potentially the front runner but i don't think that it's possible to hand daniel jones an mvp trophy i just don't think they'll do it if mahomes goes on a run like he's been on the last couple weeks it's possible he gets another one josh allen stumbling maybe drake may or maybe just maybe this is the year it's not a quarterback and Jonathan Taylor gets the MVP award.
1:55:25Possible?
1:55:27Davis Torgerson:Right now, if the season ended right now, I wouldn't be mad if it was JT. But we all know how this goes and the beat down that their bodies take. He's on like a 30 touchdown pace, which I just don't think is happening. Unfortunately, I would love to see a running back win it or just a non-quarterback. It's been quarterbacks the entire time I've been watching football, I'm pretty sure. And yeah, you need like the best quarterbacks to have an OK season and then like a receiver or a running back or defensive player to play out of their mind for 17 weeks. It's just it's just a tough ask. But JT is making it look easy.
1:56:10Davis Torgerson:So maybe that O-line keeps doing what they're doing. That would be pretty epic, although it would suck because it would mean that me and you probably don't win any fantasy championships because neither of us have any jt and if he's putting up 30 a week good luck to anyone playing against jt dude the beauty of this run he's on is usually you would think that they're getting 25 30 rushing 35 rushing attempts a game he's gone over 20 twice well he's living in the 18 to 17 range yesterday he had 12 rushing attempts and got 153 yards it's he's actually somewhat resting while he's on this run and he's got the perfect time for a bye week 11 you know later in the season um if no quarterback steps up and takes this this is the year i mean they should have gave it to cooper cup when he had his historic run a couple years back whenever that was breaking all the records christian mccaffrey probably should have had it a year or two when he was on his incredible pace but if no quarterback goes crazy and i think it's possible that mahomes could win it again because it's that wide open but i'd say you give to jonathan taylor yeah right now i wouldn't be mad at that at all
1:57:39so we talk a lot about offense you know we're fantasy football players we love offense but this year in the nfl we are seeing some of the worst defense of all time we've got dallas we got the bangles you got pittsburgh which one of the most costly defenses and they're god awful they can't stop anyone darius slay and jalen ramsey they couldn't stop me and you um who has the worst defense in the nfl that's tough it's gotta be honestly the cowboys had a
1:58:17Davis Torgerson:couple weeks where they looked competent defensively which was impressive because you're like okay if they play even just like average defense they should be dominant because the offense is pretty damn good but uh i gotta give it to the bangles man like the jets were oh and seven pulling up and all of a sudden justin fields was literally gonna lose his job crying in the closet tyrod yeah and tyrod taylor's knee got hurt so like tyrod has the worst luck with that shit with the punctured lung and all that shit but justin fields is about to lose his job he got re like re revived basically uh and now aaron glenn saying he's kept the job for after they're buying shit brie saw had no brie saw had no touchdowns all season and then he rushed the worst team in the fucking threw a touchdown like that's just that tells you everything you need to know we watched jamar chase get a career high 16 receptions in right in front of our face like that defense is just an embarrassment so that's my pick yeah cincinnati is outside of chase brown t higgins jamar chase and joe burrow the worst football team the offensive line the defensive line what's he he's not even doing anything usually like he can sometimes mask some of this.
1:59:51But even this year, he's not helping. The whole team, I don't even know how that coach is still there. Of all the coaches, he needs to go. The management needs to figure it out because they are going to waste Jamar and Joe in their prime. I mean, they're already wasting Joe. He's getting hurt left, right, and center. You give a guy however many million it is, 500 million, probably something like that, and you can't protect him. uh it's crazy man they don't even got golf carts to drive the injured players back to the room there they're saving money so it's pathetic uh this is the first week in like i don't know in a long time that you don't have any pittsburgh paraphernalia on um is it because you're you're pissed with your team or what what's give us the status of your pittsburgh steelers man is is is hope dwindling and reality setting in the crazy thing is i heard the betting
2:00:49Davis Torgerson:odds on uh the ravens to win the division actually are better now like i think they're i don't know that they're favored to win the division i'm pretty sure like it's longer odds for the steelers to hold on because i think they as lamar comes back thursday they got the win huge huge game shout out to snoopunt lee for uh holding it down for for this must win week against the fucking disgraceful bears um but uh yeah lamar's back and i think a bunch of their defensive players are back So the Ravens, although it's a narrow margin for error, they're about to cook now. And I think they got Miami on Thursday.
2:01:39Davis Torgerson:So that should be a beat down. Although one-eyed Tua looked pretty good. We'll see.
2:01:47Oh, man. The NFL is the place where you just cannot count on anything. You think something is a sure shot. like you see joe flacco doing his thing against what you thought was the steel curtain and then they lose to the jets anything is possible the dolphins could go on a run here like you can just you can't predict this shit but one thing you know we may be able to predict is that yours and i think it's ryan rossillo's nickname for the quarterback of the new england Patriots is done it's over it's Drake May not not Drake maybe man talk about Drake May and what
2:02:30Davis Torgerson:he's been doing yeah that was a cousin Sal that was his nickname that I heard on Bill Simmons pod their Monday their Monday podcast one of my favorite things to listen to recapping the week or the weekend but uh dude it's crazy I think he's the most accurate QB in the league on throws over 20 yards right now um he didn't have a great fantasy day against the bills but he made all the big plays like i don't think he threw a touchdown or ran for one but like that was his coming out party all yards they have a they have a real easy schedule so if the bills keep playing like this take that loss to the chiefs on sunday bro i think i think they might be able to hold on to that division but yeah drake may man just i think he just got sacked five times by miles garrett alone but he just gets back up i think he threw three tds like uh i know the last few years once brady left were brutal but they didn't have to wait that long considering what some franchises go to going from one uh quarterback to another elite one they're they're in good hands man and drake may not maybe is looking like a real one man fun to watch the crazy thing is they may have rushed mac jones out you know like he's doing okay down in san francisco obviously you prefer drake maybe but their drafting of quarterbacks has been great like you said their schedule they got the buccaneers in week 10 and then they got buffalo and baltimore towards the end of the season but Yeah, they could hold on to this.
2:04:08They could end up the first season in the AFC. It is crazy that the New England Patriots are back on top, man. Fuck New England. Fuck Boston. Congrats to them, man.
2:04:22Davis Torgerson:Wow. From a Patriots dynasty supporter. That's crazy to hear. I will say, though. I will say, though. I will say, though. I will say, though. I will say, though. fucking wait oh the mac jones thing um as someone who drafted him in the 10th round in our keeper league who had all the hope in the world for him to be great it was time for him to go like he he had a he had actually a good rookie year but the drafting around that time was absolutely brutal they put nothing around him that team was god the spending was awful yeah the spending on all those tight ends johnny smith hunter henry i think her henry huge deals yeah like it it was insane it was all in one off season yeah like when he when they sent him packing it was time and it's good to see him getting another shot with good coaching and amazing weapons but uh i mean it was new england's fault that they like took his confidence away and he really like became a shell of himself but it was time to go at the time like there was they couldn't keep trying to run that back it's possible that mac jones could be the next sam donald baker mayfield where drafted by a team spends a short period with another and he could end up being a starter somewhere else in this league like there are a lot of quarterbacks playing football on sundays maybe not a lot but a handful that are worse than Mac Jones.
2:05:59Davis Torgerson:100%. Dude, the Jets could... I'll just a quick glance. The Jets and the Dolphins could use Mac Jones. The Browns. Cincinnati. The Browns. The Saints. Jacksonville. Dude, remember fucking BTJ with Mac Jones last year? The jury is still... The jury's still out on Trevor Lawrence. I don't know what to do with him, man. Yeah, Titans, it's too early to say. the Raiders could use Mac Jones. The Titans is way too early to say. Cam Ward's going to be the guy. The Saints 100 % could use Mac Jones. And maybe even the Cardinals, man. There's a lot of teams that could use his services right now. Yeah. You mentioned his name.
2:06:48I just want to talk about him for one sec. Miles Garrett, at the beginning of the offseason, requested a trade, which I thought was one of the greatest moves of all. And then they offered the ultra bag. And, you know, that offseason money clouded his vision. But here we are. You know, November's coming up. He's still in Cleveland. He's got the money, but he's still in Cleveland. If you could think of a dream spot for Miles Garrett, where does he end up at this trade deadline? Which I think is in two weeks or one week. It's pretty soon. What's early November?
2:07:24to him that's a crazy you know who could use him
2:07:32Davis Torgerson:fuck i'm looking at teams and some of them are just god awful where it's like you send them to the cowboys how much of a difference does it make but a team i don't think he helps i think they need like four or five guys yeah dude the texans defense is already good they need an o-line the chargers i could be nice over there pittsburgh's defense probably needs more dude detroit their defense is pretty good aiden hutchinson him would be scary
2:08:06um buccaneers i don't know dude like you could put them on one of the contenders and
2:08:11Davis Torgerson:that would take them over the top but which one i think you put a page wingman yeah jinx you know put the fear of god in josh allen and see what happens to him on the field that would be absolutely insane um i'm excited for that to be like a better rivalry because it's always like one team was really good and the other was not the AFC East has always had like a clear winner and three losers so I'm excited to see two titans go toe-to-toe man oh Josh wants his get back man and then the in the Tua era they they flirted with like pretending to be this like team and then they're always just a first round exit yeah scrubs they are scrubs all right enough football uh there's another sport that just uh started back up what what's what is it bro the nba is back and i'm back as a fan i know the last two seasons i've talked about not watching many games in the regular season and locking in in the playoffs something got into me i'm super jazzed i don't know why i said that i'm super hyped uh balls back and um just yeah let's go over some of the main topics see see if you've been paying attention to anything one victor wambinana he i drafted him in fantasy last year he let me down with the injury he gained weight he was training with shaolin monks he was doing all types of yoga and shit he's looking a little more jacked apparently he grew an inch or two paws and uh bro he came out and made anthony davis look like a fucking 11 year old on the court punked them 40 on opening night um they're three you know number one record i mean it's early obviously but dearon fox hasn't even played a game yet the spurs man what do you think wemby One of the youngest teams in the NBA.
2:10:16They got a bunch of young bulls on that squad. They're ready to play. I still listen to first takes, so I get a little bit of what's going on in the NBA. Heard about the Anthony Davis dismantling when Stephen, what does Cam say his middle name is? Stephen Anthony. He picked the Dallas Mavericks as his dark horse to make it to the NBA Finals and then got absolutely embarrassed on opening night. uh wimpy's a freak of nature man those guys don't come around often you know the size of yaoming with the skills of kevin durant what more do you want he's built for basketball and that's about it what else could he do there's literally no other job he could have had in this world like he's made for basketball yeah it's actually imagine him working construction or working on a film set or something he couldn't do it he's made for basketball
2:11:08Davis Torgerson:yeah but there's a lot of seven footers out there in the world that unfortunately aren't uh the hell athletic ones you know are definitely built for the nba but he he's just i've never seen anything like it man he's swatting a shot on one end going through his legs like five six times step back three and one uh nerf ball dunks all over the place if this is year three and he stays healthy for the next 10 years there's a dynasty 2.0 brewing in san antonio man very fucking scary what is that other thing missing what are they missing what do they need to have uh well they drafted darren harper i think second overall so he's playing off the bench right now Darren Harper?
2:11:58Davis Torgerson:From Washington? Like the skater? No, they're a rookie. Wait, is that not his name? I think that's actually... Let me fact check that right now.
2:12:15Davis Torgerson:Did I just butcher my man's name? Oh, Dylan Harper. My bad. I got skating. My skate brain took over there. Dylan Harper. number two pick beast of a guard uh but yeah they've got fox out what do they need they needed they had chris paul last year which was great and they needed a point guard and that's why they went and got fox last year so can't really judge for now i mean a better a better fucking three guard than harrison barnes would probably be good but they want that veteran presence for now i don't know what they need it's so early and they're looking pretty good but uh a proper backup center they've got bismac right now um but they might be all right man like ask me that question and like after 30 games and i'll have a better answer for you but right now they're looking scary and Wemby's a one-man wrecking crew.
2:13:17Well, one thing I do know about the NBA is that this is the year. The path is there for the New York Knicks to walk straight to the NBA Finals. There's no real competition. Tatum's got his injury. Hal Burton's got his injury. The Bucs have been a little wonky in years past. I guess the Cavaliers, is that right? They're the next best. it's going to be one, two Knicks Cavaliers. Yeah, that's no question. That should be it. Those Cavaliers can't come into MSG.
2:13:53Davis Torgerson:We'll see. The other one, the other dark horse in the East is, well, not much of a dark horse, but the Pistons, they're off to a strange start. Two and one haven't looked, haven't been playing as high level, I think, as they ended last year. And then another team that I quickly want to mention That's 2-0 right now The Philadelphia 76ers I said I was done believing Or having hope for Embiid and Paul George But the funny thing is Embiid's been playing 20 minutes a game But it hasn't been the Embiid show It's been Tyrese Maxey 40 ball to start the year But I don't know if you heard about this kid DJ Edgecombe Or is it Vijay?
2:14:37Davis Torgerson:Bro, my brain is tripping i think it's vj i just heard vj but i heard it's a good yeah yeah no he's a beast he's from i can't remember which island uh like one of those crazy stories making it to the nba they drafted him third overall i believe and uh bro he dropped 34 points in his first nba game i think that was the second most by a rookie in nba history uh i i drafted him with my last pick in uh the fantasy basketball league that you used to be in and i just drafted him because he was he's a defensive guy i'm like oh this is gonna be my little secret like three steals a game guy fucking drop 34 points in five threes vj edgecomb tyrese maxi fuck the old heads whatever and beat and paul george give you as a bonus but if they stay healthy they might actually be a problem i mean i would love to see the sixers do well they uh they deserve it they're long overdue and uh i've always been a fan of ball george but in more important news we have like 30 seconds to wrap this up the toronto blue jays are still in the world series it's still fuck la over here we hate the dodgers we hate the goddamn dodger fans in the group chat um game one went down you know young bull ya savage got off to a little bit of a wonky start but the bats did their thing addison barger with the biggest grand slam the first pinch hit grand slam in world series history A straight ass whooping.
2:16:07And then game two comes out. Dodgers hit us with their Japanese secret weapon, Yoshi Yamamoto. Luckily, he can't pitch every game. Game three going down tonight, Monday. Massive game. It's back in L.A. We need to win. Our old head, Max Serger, going up against Tyler Glasnow. Ghost is a massive baseball fan right now. I mean, who isn't? It's the World Series. We need this win, man.
2:16:34Davis Torgerson:we have to beat la that that was game two fucking sucked but game one i changed the channel by a by accident right on when the grand slam happened i was devastated because i was trying to unfreeze the channel but i forgot the press come back and i came back and it was nine to two i was livid uh because you ate all game for a moment like that or fuck you wait a lifetime for a moment like that i should say and uh can't wait for game three i'm a little nervous now uh the group chat bro i was dying laughing like and i actually i actually stopped chirping because in 2016 when the calves were fucking winning game seven i think i've told this story i was watching the game at a hotel in montreal with will marshall and a bunch of homies and they were all just rooting against me even though they didn't really know what was going on they just love to see me like suffering and when i was chirping the group chat and jake was jake started going off on me i was like fuck i'm being will marshall to me back in the day so i'm gonna pump the brakes it means a lot more to these guys but i died when he was dropping you know when you chirp someone and drop the name it's like you're actually angry and his last text was dude just shut the fuck up fuck up safer oh hey jake yeah he was not happy game three let's get it tonight go chase
