In short
The Bunt episode with Scott “Big Cat” Pfaff (skateboarding/TV personality) covering his favorite skate and sports moments, his long MTV-era career, how he got into skating (Ohio to LA), major injuries, and behind-the-scenes stories from Fantasy Factory (including an ostrich race and riding a rhinoceros). The show also touches on Street League/PSL judging philosophy and PSL updates, plus a somber note about Team Canada losing in finals.
Guest backgrounds
Scott Pfaff is a longtime skater from Akron, Ohio who moved to Los Angeles at 19 to pursue skating. He’s known for his involvement with MTV’s Fantasy Factory (about eight seasons total) and for being connected to Street League as a referee/judge. He also has a long friendship with UFC figure Dana White.
Key claims
Pfaff says his “big break” involved early industry access through Alien Workshop/Rob Dyrdek connections and later filming opportunities via Minefield/flow-era teams. He claims he broke his neck (C7) during Fantasy Factory after a speed wobble and knockout, and that he was lucky to avoid paralysis. He argues skate judging should reward style and trick selection, not just raw difficulty.
Notable examples
Brian Winning’s Photosynthesis part; Dylan’s Ollie impossible and Jim Thebo’s reaction. Fantasy Factory ostrich race (Rob loses; ostrich egg punishment). Fantasy Factory rhino riding (multiple takes; producers pushing for speed). Pfaff’s “double pain” story: landing a line where PJ Ladd already filmed a similar sequence first. Dana White story: paying for kids to learn to skate; Pfaff says it led to years of flying to Vegas.

2:44Davis Torgerson:You know what time it is, y 'all. You know what I'm saying? Shout out of the week. Man, skateboarding has always been shaped by the videos that represent it. It's how a lot of us connect to skating in the first place. Lately, videos are treated as disposable content. Algorithms decide what gets seen, and full lengths are reduced to a couple of clips in a feed. That's not how skate videos are meant to be experienced. That's why The Den was built. The Den is a skate video app curated and designed by skaters. It has a deep catalog of videos preserved in their original quality, pure vision, pure sound exactly the way filmers intended them to be seen.
3:24Davis Torgerson:From the classics to the latest releases and a 24 hour live channel for when you just want to kick back and zone out. The Den was made so when something special comes along, it stays front and center long after the feeds moved on. So if you care about skate videos like we do, become a member and download the Den for free on iphone android the web apple tv and amazon fire tv uh man we we bringing y 'all straight up to the date shit these days no longer working off my list uh shout out fuck i should have asked for pronunciation on our boy's name but justin aka buffalo justin you know i'm saying he's been working on a vx part for a hot minute justin let me try and pronounce your last name sorry your brother uh great shop gretzha weak butchered but you know who i'm talking about it's it's on that quarter snacks yeah it's on quarter snacks he snapped he's skating all over the place a bunch of puerto rico clips love to see it and uh it's actually from a bigger video that's dropping i I think part by part called eight track.
4:40So keep your eye on that.
4:42Davis Torgerson:The full video is coming out. But this was the first part released. Our boy, Justin, absolute beast. Love to see it. Buffalo in the building. Yeah. Shout out, Justin winner of our NFL Canada trip. Got to go. Not very far. Watch the Buffalo bills. Take care of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Shout out, Justin. Great guy. Ghost. there's nothing left to be said man big cat in the building let's get to the interview baby let's get it all right let's get this thing popping we've got scott path aka big cat in the building what's cracking man how you doing guys yo how'd i do on the last name there that was solid you're like yeah you're one of the only people to ever get it right first try big risk there man oh yeah i get faff i get pafef i get all of it yeah all right nailed it my dog so we start every show off the same you got to hit us with your favorite skate moment and your favorite sports moment favorite skate moment i have two brian winning's part in photosynthesis to me one of the last times where like a guy could just come out of completely nowhere that you had never heard of and have this insane part for the biggest company and do shit that like you didn't even think was possible.
6:03Like that definitely like changed the way I looked at skateboarding when that video came out and his part very specifically. The other one would be at a street league, like probably 15 years ago, they were filming like a Wednesdays with Retta or whatever for the barracks and Dylan just kind of like during practice or whatever, just rolled up and did an Ollie impossible over the like barrier for the course that was probably waist high. And, but my favorite part of it is not even that it's red up pans over next to him is jim thebo and jim thebo's reaction to that was like and i mean this in a completely complimentary way but he was like a 12 year old girl at a fucking taylor swift concert like that to me was just like encapsulated like he is the best dude in skateboarding because he truly loves it like that much and his reaction is fucking incredible and then sports um honestly like i'm more of a ufc fan so for me like the one it's it's fairly recent but justin gaethje and max holloway like their bmf title fight when it comes down to like the last five seconds and max holloway just stands in the middle and goes like let's go and yeah knocks gaethje out with one second left on the clock it's like hold on fuck UFC 300, man.
7:20Oh, yeah. That was dangerous, dude. You have a relationship with Dana? I saw him on your Instagram, I think, right? Yeah, I've been friends with Dana for like 15 years. Crazy. He came to the Fantasy Factory once when we did like a charity auction there. And I think he paid like a hundred grand to have a party at the Fantasy Factory. And so we, of course, expected him to show up with like a couple hundred people and like have a party. And he just showed up with his three kids just to like, let him skate for the day. And he was super cool. And like his, his boys were like probably five and six at the time and we're trying to learn to skate.
8:02And so I was there and I was just kind of showing him like, you know, like how to roll around and whatever. He, at the end of the day came up and shook my hand and was just like, thank you so much for, you know, spending time with my kids and whatever. And he had a wad of cash in his hand. And I'm like, no, no, no, no, no. Like that's not, that's not what this is. Like, he's like, no, keep it. I'm like, no, dude, that's not like, you don't got to do that. And he's like, I'm not taking it back. And I'm like, okay, like, thank you. It's not necessary. But, and, and he left and I looked and it was like$3 ,000.
8:37fucking mob boss man yeah and so then after that he i guess he contacted like our secretary at the time and was just like hey like you know the boys want to learn to skate but like i don't know anybody in vegas can you recommend somebody who can like teach them how to skate and she unbeknownst to me like just kind of suggested to him like why don't you see if scott would do it he's like do you think he would he was he was like i'll fly him out like i'll get him a rental car hotel room like i'll pay him fucking out so she asked me and i was like yeah of course like so for years i would fly to vegas and take his kids skating and he would ever since then he's always like anytime you want to go to a fight just let me know like and i still to this day like anytime i hit him up like he sits sits me down on the floor and and hooks it up he's he's like the
9:22Davis Torgerson:nicest dude ever that's epic damn dude that's literally like as a ufc fan it doesn't get much better than the plug you have that's like i can dream right there so scott take us back to the beginning man where'd you grow up and how'd you get into skating um grew up in akron ohio steph curry was born there right that's what people know yeah and his dad played for cleveland him and actually i think stephan lebron were born at the same hospital yeah but yeah grew up in akron ohio had a skateboard like as a kid but like really started skating in eighth grade like i always knew you know my cousin's rob dierdick i always knew like oh i have this cousin who's a pro skateboarder and like sometimes he'd be around at christmas and whatever but where i really started skating was when i was in eighth grade there was a guy i was friends with who was like junior in high like he was older than me and he would always we were in the marching band together and he would always skate in the parking lot after band practice and i started kind of hanging out with him he like showed me how to ollie and whatever and like let me borrow like he had a copy of welcome to hell then where i like really got going was i went because rob and keith huffnagel were doing like a two-man demo in cleveland and i went up to like watch that and he gave me the board that he was riding after he was done so i was like well i got a board now so me and like my buddy can hang out in the parking lot and skate after after school and after band practice and shit and it just never stopped from there that's so sick man damn man um being from akron uh we gotta ask you have a lebron story or any sort of connection to to king james i've never met him in person but my parents own a photography studio and studio in akron called lions photography lebron when he was like 19 and 20 and like pretty young would come in with his wife and baby brawny and get their like family portraits taken for a few years so like my parents have this like super funny photo of like young lebron james and his wife and like literally like one year old brawny hanging in their office yeah it's super fun they were always like he's such a nice guy like you know i don't know like um what would you consider your first big break in the skate industry i know you've had like not the like conventional pro skater career but obviously been in and around the industry for a long time it's a weird one right because like i you know like i said my cousin was always a pro skateboarder so like since i was like pretty young like i remember going to going to the alien workshop i was maybe 16.
12:08me and my brother went it was like right after christmas and my brother had like a zero board that we took because there was like a mini rant there so we would you know we'd go and like hang out and skate chris carter who runs the workshop to my brother saw my brother riding a zero board and like the are you doing like he's like i'll i'll give you three skateboards right now but you have to leave that one here like and i guess like he and rob kind of went back and we're you know talking about whatever and he was like he's like do they buy skateboards and uh i was like you know i i guess i don't know he's like why wouldn't they just call here and get stuff so like he came told us he's like yeah just whenever you need skateboard don't buy skateboards just call here and we'll send you whatever you want so i kind of always had like i had that you know like i said since i was 16.
12:53but then when i like moved to la when i was 19 really started skating i guess one of the first ones where it was like okay this is more than just like being the cousin and the homie was like you remember the brand seek yeah they tried to do off of like alien when that was going on they took a trip to barcelona and i think i was like 20 and they were like come on this trip and i was like okay like quit the job that i had at the time bought a ticket to barcelona and went on that like skate trip and that's where it was a little bit of like okay this is maybe a little bit more than like just the homie hookup for sure did the flow thing for a while and then um the kind of end of that really like where it was like the end of it in terms of like really trying to make a run at being a pro skateboarder was minefield was getting made there was like flow guys were like me kevin terpenning who i grew up skating with and jake Johnson.
13:50And they kind of told all three of us at that time, like, if you can film a part that's good enough to be in the video, like we'll put you on and put you in the video. Crazy. Wow. And I had a little bit of stuff and then kind of right in the middle of it was when we started filming Fantasy Factory and a week into filming Fantasy Factory, I slammed and broke my neck. Fuck. It was out for like a good six months and then like was pretty, was a little gun shy for a little a while like that was a scary one like and that was at a time where i was like i was kind of at that age of like all right if you're not gonna if you haven't done it by now like it's probably not gonna happen like i think i was like 25 26 which at the time was like if you were still a flow guy that was you know you were kind of a man am so to speak um but like i said we had just started doing the tv show so i just kind of went in that direction and always kept skating and always you know and carter and all the guys at the workshop always took care of me and you know it was kind of the end of like okay i'm gonna try to be a pro skateboarder as a career damn man how did you actually break your neck though so at the fantasy factory we had like this big jump ramp into a foam pit but it was like really fucking big you know to like really be able to like shoot out of it we had dirt bikes and we would hold on to the back of the dirt bike and someone would kind of tow us in they built it literally the day before and i like i had some like cruiser board or something i tested it out and i was like okay this is great and then when we went to like do it the next day like all of us together i just grabbed my like my regular board and i rode my truck super loose so it's going like 30 miles an hour and just got speed wobbles and slammed like into the transition of the ramp and knock myself out and then fell off the ramp that was probably four or five feet high unconscious just onto my head and like didn't try to catch myself because i was out fractured my like c7 vertebrae um but it was one of those fully like oh we're skating oh i'm in the hospital like what the fuck like yeah and the scary part about it was like so i woke up in the hospital had no idea i had hurt my neck i had you know one of those like kind of braces on but like you know they put those things on if you roll your ankle just out of like so i didn't really think anything of it like yeah i'm sitting in the hospital and like the dude in the bed next to me had been like stabbed up by a bunch of gang members or some and i'm just like okay like sitting there with this thing on and they came in and they like took the brace off and they had done like cat scans and mris and all that so they come in they take the brace off the nurse is like Like, you know, do a range of motion test, like as far as you can go this way and back and forth and the whole thing.
16:40And my neck was like stiff, but not, you know, just thought like I got whiplash or whatever. So I'm sitting there thinking like, OK, like I'll be able to go home in like 45 minutes. And I could hear like the shit in the emergency room was just separated by curtains. So you could hear everything that was going on. And I hear the doctor kind of come to the nurse outside the curtain and be like, hey, like, why does he have his brace off? Like we haven't gotten his like MRIs, casketing stuff back yet. and the guy was just like oh i thought he was i thought he was good and still i'm just like whatever and then i hear like through the curtain and i'm like talking to you know my brother and people that were there i hear the dude walk up to the curtain and he's like get him back in his fucking neck brace he has a broken neck and i was like i went from like being chill to being like like yeah if i fucking like look the wrong way i'm gonna be fucking a quadriplegic and it went from like go home in 45 minutes to go home like three days later and be you know stuffed in a neck brace for six months and like fortunately i didn't have to do like the you know with the shit where they drill it into your head like the halo yeah i just had like a kind of foam collar on like but yeah that was it was a scary one but got very lucky damn that sounds brutal
17:49Davis Torgerson:was it uh you said six months till you were kind of back to normal-ish six months of wearing that collar and then it was fucked up was like things sucked and it smelled and you know what i mean like it's because you know it's like a cast and but then when i was like finally able to take it off we were still filming the first season of the show and like we filmed all that shit out of order and they were like ah it's fucking funny just keep it on so when we filmed they would have me like put it back i'm like okay like fucking like this sucks i get it it's funny but like what the fuck are we doing here like but yeah it was like six months of wearing that and then after that it was like you know it was still a little freaky to kind of move around and shit was that bail on the show yeah it was that's crazy man and i was like all right well let me see the footage though and they just kept like kind of putting me off i was finally just kept hassling them about it and they were like okay and they like let me see it and it's like you i i don't think they cut the sound out but like i had a mic on right here and like you can hear it go crunch it's like oh it's it's gross like i had to tell my mom like hey maybe don't watch this episode like and you know like because i don't want you to cry yeah but it was yeah it was rough crazy let's rewind back for a sec uh what was behind like what made you make the move from uh ohio to la and was your first apartment the whippy house aka the ohio house um no it wasn't but we'll get there i i moved because i said like i wanted to chase being a pro skateboarder and like i don't know man when you grow up in ohio like california is like the promised land like and i knew from a young age like i wanted to move away from ohio i was in like my first year going to college and i came out here on a winter break stayed and my cousins and we went out skating and it was right when they were making the DC video and we were out skating somewhere.
19:46And I think I just kind of said in Pat, you know, like, cause it's, it's hard to go to some spot you've seen in a video and try to like, like, what can I do here that nobody's done? And like, try to, you know, really do something. And I think I just said in passing, like, man, you know, like, I wish I could kind of get used to spots out here. And he was just like, you can move in with me if you want. And I was like, yeah. And he's like, yeah, sure. I think he thought like he was filming for the DC video and wanted someone who was just down to skate anywhere, anytime. And he knew 19 year old me would be able to do that.
20:20And so I went home, packed my car and drove back out and dropped out. I dropped out of college and moved out here when I was 19. I was living in Silver Lake with a buddy. I worked at Valsurf, which is like a skate shop out here in the Valley. I was living with a buddy that I worked there with. And Kevin Sherpening, who I, like I said, I grew up skating with in Ohio. he just graduated high school and he came out on a trip just i was like yo just come sleep on the floor like and he kind of said the same thing like he's like man like i wish i had like a way to move out here and i was like fucking move in with us and sleep on the floor i don't care like it was me and my buddy sharing like a one-bedroom apartment like i slept in the bedroom he slept in the living room and then we just moved kevin in and kevin slept in like the dining room plastic skate shit dude it gets so much worse like when our lease was about to be up my buddy was like hey like you know i think i'm gonna move in with my friend chris but his lease is up now and ours isn't up for two months like do you care if i'm like let him crash i don't care so then it's the four of us in a one-bedroom place and then cody green who films for vans and filmed a bunch of stuff for alien and fa and hockey and all those like we grew up skating with him too me and kevin and cody was living in long beach and we were like he was the same thing like his lease was almost up and we were like okay let's me kevin and cody ran a place together same thing like cody's like well my lease is up now and we were like well ours isn't up for six weeks so let's go and then it was just it was just literally the five of us and like probably wow 500 square foot apartment that's insane but then the three of us moved into the whipple house aka the ohio house
22:03Davis Torgerson:and had a good had a good run there you guys had like the clown car but it was just an apartment straight up like it was yes and like i had this like little old filipino like lady landlord and every now and then she'd peek in i would get like calls like um there are so many beds and i'm like uh they're just here to visit like whatever and i would just text the dudes like it would shut the fucking windows like we're gonna get evicted and i'm just like no they're just visiting it's fine like you know but yeah it was full skate house sardines that's crazy so love it when did scott mackie move in was he part of the originally yeah yeah for sure um him and his brother sean actually so originally it was me kevin terpenning cody green and then maybe like six months after we moved in so the other kids that we grew up skating with were these kids who were triplets i think they were like 16 and we you know we rented that house we hit them up we're like yeah we got a house in california like come hang out in the summer or whatever and they came out and just never went home even though they were 16 they like they like finished high school online and just moved into the house so for a while that was like it was the six of us and it was like it's it was a three-bedroom house but it had like these spare rooms like this weird like kind of porch zone that was built in and covered there was like a dining room and like a little coffee nook room we just turned all of them into bedrooms um and but we were all from ohio so you know everybody scuba and mackie and all those guys was like oh the ohio house yeah um it makes sense then eventually cody yeah cody and kevin and the triplets moved out and then scott mackie and his brother sean moved in and it was the three of us for a while who else lived at the ohio house for a while like cj uh cyril lived there oh damn he's from ohio too yeah he lived there there's a handful of people that live there chanel lived there for a little while like this place is crazy dude yeah it was like the rotating skate house we heard though that you guys would buy beer over toilet paper and would use the shoebox tissue instead so the washroom would be filled with shoeboxes they would not me i had i had the back bedroom which fortunately had its own bathroom oh you're living that was like yeah i was like you guys are gross like but but before they would do that they would like they would roll up to the the gas you know the corner store buy beer and then be like oh can we use the bathroom which was outside yeah so they would get the key to the bathroom go steal the toilet paper that was in the gas station bathroom why wouldn't you bring that home and and then when that ran out yeah they eventually resorted to like fucking the paper that comes in like shoe boxes and they're like the toilet keeps clogging i'm like no fucking shit that's crazy that's some mark appley art style shit man i always prioritize toilet paper over beer um so just walk us through the mtv era for yourself like how did it start how long did it last when did you get out of there you know they had done robin big which went I think for like three seasons and then him and the big black had like a bit of a falling out for a while he was like you know he just basically hit me up and was like I'm doing this new show we're getting an office in downtown and there's an office for you I was like okay like I didn't really know what to expect beside that and then you know went in there and it kind of was like we did that show I think we did eight seasons of it crazy I think after like season six we were like all right we're kind of done and then they got us back to do two more so we did two more and then that was it and then he moved on to doing uh ridiculousness yeah it was a weird one it was a weird experience that's crazy long longer stretch than i thought yeah yeah definitely had some weird experiences from it was it weird going from like a skater to just being on tv like i feel like when you moved out there that wasn't part of the plan and then all of a sudden you're just a tv character for eight years yeah yeah it definitely was not like something i ever like chased or planned for or tried to do or whatever it just sort of fell into my lap like our show existed before like social media was so omnipresent in everything you know what i mean like we had myspace when our show started it wasn't like it was on your phone it wasn't like it was everywhere it wasn't you know like and twitter happened and then like instagram happened it's like they just weren't what they are now so i think the experience that someone else has of like now being on a television show is probably wildly different than what mine was it was just i don't know this kind of thing that got me into bars easily and you know like made made certain things like easy like you know living in la it's like yeah people will come up to you and you know what have you but like i was nowhere near famous enough to where like it impacted my ability to like go to the coffee shop or go do shit you know what i mean like because you know people don't really care in la yeah did you ever have any interesting fan interactions during that stretch nothing like super crazy like you know you get to kind of some fans are a little stalkery like i had one person like i think instagram launched some like location something and like it would just it was like auto tagging all your friends someone just started commenting on all my photos my home address and i'm like whoa is that uh is that like what you would deal with with the the cat mobile we heard you heard that uh sometimes people would leave notes on the cat mobile that definitely happened i'd be out somewhere like at dinner or whatever and a couple times like the valet would pull up you know to give me my car and random people would hop in it because it was like yellow and black and people thought it was a fucking cab and i just had would have random people jump on my back seat i'm like get the fuck out of my car like but then it was but then it was a it was a fucking old cop car it took me a while to figure out like it was set to where like you couldn't get out from the backseat without someone letting you out so i'd have to get out of the fucking car and like let this like drunk dude out of my backseat like but yeah that thing was funny for a little while living that life um do you if you have one can you share a big black story with us rest in peace to the legend man yeah man he was such a great guy all right i'll tell one that's embarrassing to me but very funny um we were having a party at the house and I was very drunk and me and a friend, like he had brought like girls with him and we ran out of stuff to drink.
28:53So we went down to the corner store and these two girls come with us and we're like, Oh, you know, can we get a bottle of this, a bottle of that and whatever. And one of the girls, I think they were both named Ashley, like two just blonde girls from morons county both named ashley one of them was like to the guy behind the counter was like do you have skull i was like ew who chews like what the fuck like and they're like oh my god we do it's the best and like whatever cut to an hour later i'm drunk and they're like you need to try it i'm like okay and just blacked out and woke up on the bathroom floor like just passed out and made my way to the couch just and woke up the next morning to just hung over to big black and his friends bam bam and zeus who are also giant black security guards like hovering over me just singing like when i dip you dip we dip i'm like fuck you guys get away like leave me alone like fuck i'm embarrassed enough like i get it uh that's a really rad guy
29:58he's the kind of person who makes the room feel lighter the moment he walks in like someone quietly adjusted the lighting and turned the vibe up to excellent there's a natural warmth about him that doesn't try too hard it just is he listens he remembers the small details he treats everyone with genuine respect whether he's talking to a lifelong friend or someone he's just met his kindness feels effortless never rehearsed never forced he has this calm patience that makes people feel safe being themselves no pressure no pretense just space to show up exactly as you are which makes sense because he's always unapologetically himself and if that wasn't already an unfair amount of greatness in one human let's talk posture truly elite posture a general of posture he stands tall without a hint of stiffness shoulders relaxed and gently back chin level spine aligned like it's being lifted by an invisible threat his movements are smooth and unhurried the kind of radiant effortless confidence when he sits his back stays straight but comfortable feet grounded hands resting with natural ease not rigid not military it's poised balanced self-assured basically his posture is a physical manifestation of his personality his name is ryan ewing but we all know him as beagle this message was brought to you by chpo brand the worldwide leader in sunglasses and watches always doing it and this time celebrate for the people um there are obviously some like crazy memorable uh episodes of fantasy factory one that comes to mind is obviously chanel getting hit in the head with the dodgeball multiple times in a row.
32:01Probably the most famous one. But my favorite was the ostrich race. Can you just take us behind the scenes on that day, man? We would plan out what episodes were going to be. We'd have a vague plan and then whatever happens along the way happens. You know? So they came and were like, we're going to do an ostrich race. And I'm like, okay. Like, that's a thing? And they're like, yeah, yeah. Like, people do it at county fairs and stuff. And I'm like, what the hell? So then the day comes, you know, and I've never been around a fucking ostrich. Like, you know, and we get there and like the the saddles quote unquote were literally made out of like old car seatbelts and shit and i'm like what the fuck and then what where really i was like okay you're in over your head was like you know it's a bird and they look like pretty frail and i like hopped up on it and sat down and the thing didn't even budge and i'm like oh shit and you look down and they have like velociraptor fucking talent yeah so our our our bet was whoever loses has to drink a raw ostrich egg which is which is the size of a football yeah they're enormous man like you have to cut them open like you can't just crack them up like you have to cut them with like a little mini saw so we get on we're ready to go and i'm like ah fucking shit it's just like one two, three, go.
33:20My bird takes off and I'm in the lead, but like, he just starts like veering left towards the fence. And at a certain point I'm like, fuck, this thing's going to run into the fence. So I start trying to like lean and like kind of guide him back. And I just leaned just too far to where I'm like, but our deal was whoever, whoever's bird and person gets across the line first. That's that counts. You don't have to be on it. Just if you're a bird and you were across the line that counts yeah so i'm just like trying to i realize like i've leaned too far and i'm gonna fall off this fucking thing but i'm like trying to just hold on to get across the finish line i fall off and i'm unsure whether i made it across the line so i immediately try to like just stand up and i'm like okay just stand up and dive across the finish line and as soon as i stand up i look i turn and like my brother is on one and it just fucking slams into me i'm not kidding it felt like getting hit by a feathery fucking volkswagen like but i also like i got hit i was like fuck like i was in so much pain but i i knew like there's at least one more of these fucking things like running at me so i jumped up and ran away just trying not to get trampled and it like dude i couldn't breathe for like five minutes like that was full speed oh yeah and if you look back like it tried to like step through my chest and like slam me into the ground it just missed and ran straight through me and that was at like 10 o 'clock in the morning and we went back and filmed a whole a full day of filming after that like holy fuck it was yeah So who lost?
35:06Who came in last? Rob lost. Had to drink an ostrich egg as a result. That's crazy. That was scary. I also, I rode a rhinoceros for another episode. Dude. And that was super scary. Yeah. Did it have horns? Did it have its horn or was it? Yeah, it had full horns and like, we wanted to make it like, oh, I get bucked off this fucking rhinoceros. And somehow in Valencia, which is like 20 minutes north of where I live, Every sketchy thing we've ever done with animals, like just happens like out there. Like we did shit with tigers and like, I'm like, like, and they're just in someone's neighborhood. And this guy had a fucking rhino and he's like, yeah, you know, you can ride it.
35:48Just, you know, he was like, when you get on, just be careful because like, he's like, don't hang your legs off the side because like, he might just lean against the fence, not trying to hurt you, but it'll break your leg. And I'm like, cool. I jumped the fence, like jump on this thing. And like, he would, I had to do it like five times to make it work for TV because I would hop on. And he was like, the, the thing didn't care for like a minute or two. And then he would be like, Oh, okay. Get the fuck off me and start kind of kicking around. The producers kept being like, you know, we need, it needs to be quicker.
36:21It needs to be quicker. We need you to do it again. And I'm like, dude, fuck this. I'm going to get stomped. The last time I jumped on top of him and just away from camera, like I just slapped him on the side. like let's go like and he just like and he just and like i bucked around and kicked me off and i like kind of hopped through the fences he's like charging to try and do whatever he's gonna do to me this had like a jackass element to it man 100 yeah yeah we definitely occasionally did shit that
36:49Davis Torgerson:was jackass yeah would you do that again because like the thought of that i don't think i would ever do that ever like they could kill you so easily by accident or on purpose yeah i did that when I was in my, you know, 20s and now I'm in my early 40s and I'm like, no, like I don't want to die for like some fucking, some silly like fucking shit. Like, you know, and just the realization that like, that's very possible that you could have died. Like could have died, could have been paralyzed, could have got fucking my chest stomped by a big fucking bird. Like, and then it's one that I kind of look back on, like, it was funny.
37:26And like, I'm not unhappy that I did it but i'm like i don't think i would do that shit again not at this age yeah you could skip it now that's next level crazy memories though with a rhino yeah for sure um back to skating so you
37:42Davis Torgerson:had a clip a banger um i think you had a sequence and the clip and then not many people can say this but pj lad ended up snaking you and i think got it out first uh i want to tell the people about that one when i first moved to la was when like brian winning was coming out here a bunch and that one he was like he was learning like switch backside 360s like the one that he did out of that white bump in the dc video that was like kind of when he was learning that and i was like that's a fucking cool trick and i was good at like switch backside shit like i was like i maybe i could figure that out i learned how to do it and i filmed a line at that chino four block of like a nollie backside flip and then went and switched backside 360 the force there went out with sean peterson shot it and was like fuck this you know this is one that like you know nobody's really doing and nobody's done it down a set of stairs you know whatever literally like a week later the flip video came out and he had done i was like fuck like this is gonna be my one like this is gonna like yeah this is gonna be the thing like and i weirdly enough i had also like i didn't i didn't make it but i'd landed on like he did that line like the tray flip and the nollie tray flip i landed i was trying and landed on that same line just coincidentally and i watched i was like jesus christ he got me twice like yeah wow twice in one foot it was real awesome for a lot of people for me there was a part of it that was devastation heartening yeah yeah for sure damn one clip's harsh enough but yeah that's double pain especially because one you landed on you're like i'll probably go get that and the other one yeah this crispy nbd that's gonna like blow people's minds yeah pj man pj was getting all the praise back then whoever gets to the punch of putting it out first exactly uh can you tell us about the first time you got drunk uh as a young lad.
39:39Like, like I said, I was 19. I had moved to LA and Van England lived around the corner and his house was like, it was like, he lived there. Greg Hunt lived there, Chris Casey. And it was just the crash pad. Like anybody who came to town who was like kind of DC alien would stay at Anthony's and Brian came to town for a little while and he was staying there and he and I would go skate a bunch. And I just, I didn't really drink in high school or any of that. and I remember going out skating with him one day and I think he got a trick or something it was like let's get some booze and hang out and I was like okay like and I think he got like Bacardi and Sprite or something and we just went back to Anthony's and we're like hanging out and I like I said I didn't drink in high school or anything like that really so I didn't know how to make a mixed drink and I just thought like oh it's Bacardi and Sprite you go half and half like so i drank like two and was just like oh shit and like i remember him being like there was a few of us there and i remember him just being like who's feasting on the bacardi and like i didn't even know it was me i was just like what i don't know like and just and then realized years later like oh you're fucking stupid like that's so sick first time i ever got drunk was with brian winning um when did the idea of street week first start getting tossed around and and how epic were the early days you know when it was a little not as intense i guess you would say now or competitive and yeah when everyone's favorite pros were at every stop like i bet the after parties had a different feel the like practice sessions were a little bit different like what were the early days like and how did it start he had worked with the maloufs on the maloof money cup i think just wanted to do his own thing and like wanted it to be something that a normal person who doesn't skate could understand because like it's hard for someone to watch like someone skate for two minutes then at the end it's just like this person won you know like my parents took me to skate contest my whole life and like they were they never understood that shit like so the the just scoring each trick as it happened was kind of what i think he saw potential in like but there were some there were some funny ones that like in kind of the early days of like i think like we're in Kansas city and like, you got like hit by a car and just didn't even stop him from going to the next bar.
42:07Like shit like that. Like I did, I was, I, we had a night in Kansas city where there are casinos in Kansas city and Billy Marks is my longtime friend is somewhat of a degenerate gambler. So as soon as he realized, as soon as I was like, there's casinos, he's like, what? And every night he would come up to me like, let's go to the casino. Let's go to the casino. Then the last night we were having like, you know, an after party because the thing's over. And then 10 minutes of being there, he's coming in. They're like, let's go to the casino. I'm like, the casino is open till six in the morning. Like, let's have some fun here.
42:42And then we'll go to the casino later. And after about the third time, I'm like, OK, let's go. And we wrangled like. Probably eight people. And, you know, we'd all been at the after party. We've been drinking and whatever. And we go find a cab driver because this was way before Uber. and we're like the first guy we're like hey can you take all of us and he's like no like and because it was you know a regular size car and there's eight people the second guy we find is just you know kind of country dude and like we're like hey like can you take us he's like man if y 'all can fit y 'all can ride we're like okay so we pile into this guy's fucking cab we're all sitting on each other's lap we you know we're shooting the shit with him and whatever and we get to the casino and he's like man i think i'm gonna come in and gamble with y 'all and we're like fucking all right let's go he valets his cab valets his cab comes in with us he's like rolling around gambling like he keeps coming up to up to us at different points like somebody needs to loan the cabbie 20 and we're like okay here you go like and they like tried to kick him out for panhandling and we're like no no no he's with us it's fine and and the pit boss is like you know he's hustling you and we're like we don't care like this is more fun than we care about 20 bucks so we go to leave and he's the cab driver is hammered and one of my buddies that worked for street league was with me he's like we're like mike you okay he's like yeah i'll be okay and my buddy's like you know what mike i got this and he's like okay and throws him his cab keys my buddy gets in the driver's seat the cabbie sits like you know on the armrest in the middle of the cab and we all pile in and we drive back to the hotel and by then it's like five o 'clock in the morning and we get back to the hotel and people that had early flights that are you know with street league and whatever are sitting out front and we just clown car out of this fucking thing with my buddy who's not a cab driver driving the cab and they're like the fuck are you guys doing like and we're just like you know whatever like he's like oh man my old lady's gonna be pissed at me like i didn't make any money tonight and so we just gave him like a few hundred bucks because we won money at the casino we're like here you go man he's like okay and then he gets back in the cab drunk as shit and just drives off and we're like you never saw him again like yeah that's so amazing yeah yeah there were definitely fun ones in in the early and there's still fun ones now like well for sure you know me and all the judges kelly and billy and jimmy garecki and uh tim o 'connor's an announcer but he hangs out with us a ton like we have loads of fun on those trips a bunt alum yeah um who's the toughest judge to impress and who's the easiest tim is actually a commentator it's jimmy billy kelly and uh now jaron wilson oh okay um toughest billy and jimmy are the ones who can like on certain things be like oh fuck that like you know like you know just because just because they are who they are you know like and and drawn sort of new to it um and he obviously knows what the fuck he's talking about, but he's super good at it, but you know, he's, he's newer to the newer to the group.
45:47So he's, he's pretty open to hear what everybody has to say.
45:51Davis Torgerson:Where do you guys draw the line? I guess it's different for everyone, but I felt I've judged contests over the years too. And it's, it's always tough when there's a trick that you consider illegal or just super whack, but it's also very hard and you have to give it a score. Like that's where I feel like it can get hard where someone does a trick that you would never consider doing but it's so insanely hard that you're like where what do I score this as I'd prefer to see a switchback smith but it's a homie just did a bigger flip front board or something you know I'm very much the person that believes skateboarding is it's not what you do it's the way that you do it type of thing and like some tricks just don't look good and then there's exceptions to that too like fucking mike mo can do all sorts of weird flat ground flip tricks that anybody else doing would make you want to barf but when you see him do it you're like okay all right like you figured it out like there's exceptions but like you know style matters and trick selection matters and it should matter like for sure it's not just who can do the most technically hard trick okay let me put you on the spot right here live all right it's the finals it's all tied up it's the big section Cardano Russell comes in Nollie front 270 shove board slide perfect and then Yuto comes up switchback Smith the same rail both perfect you gotta give that one to Cardano that's just a harder trick no man no I'm not saying which one I would prefer to see happen.

47:36Davis Torgerson:See, that was a tough one. You know, a switchback Smith is one that just so many of those dudes can do. Don't get me wrong. From my opinion, from a what do I want to see in the video part versus what I want, you know, what do I... There is a level of like you have to reward technical difficulty. Yeah. I could never judge that shit, man. I'm curious what Jimmy would have to say on that one with his East Coast standards of cleanliness trick selection and all that oh i feel like that one that's insane that's where jimmy's judging kits out there man i swear like the clothing goes into jimmy's scores man shoes all that he's definitely judging it he doesn't let it drift into the way he scores people but he will definitely sit and talk about it yeah like what hat they got on what if it's fitted cap or something that all matters in philly he's the best i've known jimmy from fucking 20 years he's one of my best friends that's really cool great guy he and i met actually at the skate plaza in ohio oh fuck he was there on like a he was there on like an ice cream trip with um their their team manager was nino scalia who used to be the team manager at alien workshop so i had known nino and then you know he came on an ice cream trip and brought jimmy and jimmy and met and became friends you know like i said like 20 years ago crazy that plaza is epic but when we stopped by there i was like at this age i don't think there's anything there that looked fun to skate whatsoever it's all so gnarly like maybe when i was 20 or something i'd have fun there but is there even like a melt even the ledges are like pretty massive and like this all looks like so they're hard to skate yeah they're tall and like now they're all rounded out because they were just they're concrete they didn't have any sort of angle iron or anything on them which was cool but like now it's like fucking pierce evan and you know there's that big center ledge in the very middle of it it was like a cool kind of mani pad ledge but it was like you said it was it was tall and i think they put like a big flat chunk of marble on top of it just so it would not be so rounded out so it's now it's like it's three inches taller than it even was before yeah like said yeah it was fun when i was in my 20s but i bet it would be i bet when that thing first opened up that was the the hot spot of the whole rust belt man everybody traveled to that for sure must have been packed for the first years yeah and like that's honestly that's kind of where the idea for street league really came from was like they did like a contest at that place that was kind of single trick based and it was like chris cole and jarell stanton and like all these dudes came and skated and they did i think they called it like the hammers and bangers contest or something but i think like that's where the initial idea for street league kind of started was at that contest at that plaza that's cool um yeah you've been rocking with street league since day one we got psl uh i think when this comes out psl well just week one might have just happened so So shout out Mo and everyone at PSL.
50:44Davis Torgerson:But yeah, you're doing work with PSL as well. What's your involvement there? I am the referee, which I did at the little exhibition thing. But yeah, I got to determine whether something's a make or a bail. So it should be interesting. Like I said, getting booed at that was a wildly different experience than getting booed at street league is because it's like people are five feet away and i know they're talking to me specifically like it's only gonna get worse but yeah but like i'm here for it it's it's it's an interesting like different way to look at a skate contest yeah that's i can't wait you're doing something too right um yeah i went i went down and hosted the draft the draft right yeah yeah are you gonna do something with the actual event i mean we live so damn far but hopefully we can lineup coming down for the finals and maybe doing like i don't know just spitballing but it would be sick to come back watch the finals boo you a little bit and then maybe do like a post post event like wrap-up episode or something with those guys yeah but we'll see but regardless i'm i'm just so hyped i love the the handrail edition the three attempts i feel like is going to be so entertaining yeah i think that i think that's a good addition and the like just shortening it down just because of how smoked all those guys were after that thing like yeah um can you tell us the story about stealing brayden's bronze shoe what happened there i did not steal brayden's bronze shoe um some friends and or roommates of mine may have been involved in that but i think they get it back um but it was like it was at the viper room and his his like shoe release party yeah i don't want to name names necessarily but some friends of mine just you know just love to get drunk and get into antics and whatever and they found themselves in a way that they could get their hands on it and they made off with it and i think they kept it for like a couple weeks but they were Like, I think this was when Scuba worked at Soltech and they were friends with their friends of Scuba's and Scuba was just like, dude, come on.
53:00Like, you know, I get it. Fun, fun. But like it's over. And I don't remember whether they gave it back in time or whether they just made Brayden another one. But I think they eventually he got one one way or another. But yeah, the OK, so from the same night, the funny story that I have is that was like. the day i got the i went to my final doctor's appointment for my neck and that was like the doctor was like okay you are totally clear like the bones stronger than it was before like you can do whatever you want there was this you know his shoe release party at the viper room on sunset boulevard and i was like fine finally i can go out and not look like a fucking freak and so i go and and even though like i got like you know the okay like you're still like oh we're freaked out about that kind of shit yeah exactly so i ran into heath kirchhardt who i would skate with a bunch particularly at the barracks but like we'd go street skating whatever and saw him and he was like oh dude like what's up like where you been i haven't seen you at the park or you know whatever and i was like oh you know i got hurt for a little bit and he was like oh like what happened and i was like i broke my neck and he just started laughing hysterically and he's like fuck he's like i wouldn't laugh but like you're all good now and grabbed me by the back of the neck and just shook my he's like you're all good now right dude fucking come on man like you know but but it's also this thing of like yeah he's my friend but like he's still fucking heath kirchhart you know i mean like there's still that little you know he's got that aura around him like i'm like dude fuck like jesus yeah like i'm good but like fuck man and he just was like and then just took off like so that's that's my story from that night and then i do remember that you know the the brayden shoe maybe showed up at my house due to nothing that i did but yeah some of the homies definitely got their hands on it that's awesome um you're definitely
55:12Davis Torgerson:a member of the switch tray gang. I've seen some mean switch trays. I heard you say that's your favorite trick. You switch trade. I don't know the name of this spot, but that one, a famous double set, the one that most, like I saw for the first time was Evan Hernandez in bloom. He does like kick flip, then 180. And then he does front side flip. I'd never seen a switch tray over the years. And then I saw it on your Instagram and I was like, holy fuck. So can you take us behind the scenes on that mega switch tray? I don't know it's just it's one I was kind of doing for a little while and got to a place where I felt like I could huck it down some shit that spot's super rad like the ground's super smooth so like if you wash out you just kind of slide the only thing that's dicey about it is like the roof is really low I've heard stories of like people trying to skate it and slapping their hands on the roof like so that's a little it freaks you out a little bit but yeah I just I went down there late at night with uh kevin and cody green and you know because we went down there at 11 o 'clock at night and you know it's now it's like one in the morning and i'm just like okay just one more and if i don't do it like i'd landed on a couple but i was like one more if i don't do it then we'll go home and i it just worked and i rolled away from it so sick and then i went back down later with Anthony Acosta and she got the photo of it and it ended up being like the only like double page spread I've ever had in a magazine it was in the scapegoat mag that was one that worked out I don't know switch trade gang salute yes sir
56:50Davis Torgerson:so what's next for Big Cat man more street league stuff more travel like I love the travel that I get to do with street league and with stu like the other thing that i'm kind of working on is a uh like a travel show idea um that i shot a pilot for and now i'm trying to you know see if i can convince anybody that it's a good idea that's where i'd really want to go i mean i don't get me wrong i want to continue doing street league and psl and and stu and all that stuff but i i really enjoy traveling and getting to see the world and experience what somewhere else is like nice um where'd you go for the pilot uh we filmed in mexico city sick sick yeah i met up with um oscar meza who lives down there now he like grew up in la and i had known him before um but he's lived there for a few years now so i met up with him and skateboarding like puts you in touch with so many people even beyond like pro skaters and whatever it's like bartenders and you know there's so many people in the restaurant industry that are come from skateboarding like i don't know it's cool it's just it gives you a unique connection to a lot of people that you probably wouldn't expect yo yo yo it's rapid fire with the ghost and the ghost is busy shitting his pants on a cruise ship so today i'm taking over the ad this week we're brought to you by real skateboards real spring one drop is at your local skate shop now and it's stacked a max shaft 4q cathedral a norah guest artist series new eyeshot twin tails and a board to celebrate the legend chima being on real for 20 years dono did you see the new chima highlight reel video man he dropped 10 minutes of straight bangers pulled from his many video parts over the years big congrats to Chima, legendary Switch Trey Gang member.

58:53Davis Torgerson:And tell them the bunch sent you.
58:58Davis Torgerson:All right, Big Cat, you ready for a little rapid fire? Yeah, let's do it. All right, favorite skater? Dylan, Ave, Heath Kerchardt, Popolardo. Tim O 'Connor. I'm a big fan of your fellow Canadian, Bobby DeKeezer. Sick. Hell yeah. No Brian Wenning? The fuck? Well, Wenning for sure. Yeah, Wenning for sure. Definitely wouldn't want to forget that one. He's rad. And he and I were friends back in the day. Favorite video? Probably photosynthesis. Sick. Favorite video part? Heath Kirchhardt in Sight and Scene. Dude, so sick. he uh if you're listening you know i'm saying pull up we we need to dive into all the parts all that shit even though i know you don't want to gotta do it um favorite style uh it's kind of the same as the the favorite skater list you know but dylan ave dylan ave he's nate jones would maybe be one that's you know style guy also an ohio guy but which skater had the biggest influence on the way you skate probably yeah winning and popolardo for sure who's the most talented skateboarder on planet earth shane o 'neill great answer watching that guy skate in person is fucking wild i can imagine favorite trick either a switch through 60 flip or just like i said like a good stand-up backside nose grind hardest trick for you frontside flips i was never good at like rotating frontside most illegal trick pressure flips unless your nature would and then it's just fun favorite clip you've ever gotten probably the switch 360 flip honestly that that one was i was proud of hell yeah what's the worst trend you've been a part of i definitely did like the dylan high water cuffed pants for a while which look great on him but doesn't look great on everybody and a lot of people did it that shouldn't and i was one of them what's the gnarliest trick you ever witnessed i was there for abe's last trick in the dc video that nollie crooked grind like long at usc through the corner to nollie backs i went 80 hours like that was insane iconic there was like a crazy story with that one like he was trying to film that you know usc's that zone's weird and there's always randos like kind of lurking around and whatever and he got in some back and forth with some dude and the dude came back with a fucking like pickaxe and sledged out like part of that ledge went fixed it with quick crete and then the dude came back and did it again like he tried it you know tried it dude came back wow axed it out again i think i went on one of them and helped fix it one time and like then eventually after like three times of like the dude smashing it out it getting fixed then smashing it out and getting fixed and then he finally made it and it was just like holy fuck like that's not only just super gnarly trick but just super gnarly like battle yeah for things outside to try and get it so that's probably yeah man what a time to be like i think you said you're 18 19 kid just like on the session while that video is happening one of the greatest videos of all time yeah that was like a dream yeah that was a good time to move out here what's the one trick that got away i was chasing big spin backside tail slides down a handrail for a while probably tried on like five different rails and like put it to the ground a few times on different ones and just never was able to work it out like i did one on like on a hubble ledge at the barracks for like a recruit thing but always just wanted to get in the streets and just could never, never quite found the right rail for it.
1:02:52Dang. What's the biggest bunt you've ever witnessed? My friend, Kenny, who I lived in San Diego for a little while and he was from Ohio and we moved to San Diego together and he claimed he was going to Ollie over the rail at El Toro. I mean, fucking to his credit, we went there and he tried it twice and just got fucking pancaked into the ground and we just got straight back in the car and drove two and a half hours back to san diego but he was like no i can do this and i'm like okay like yeah so yeah
1:03:31Davis Torgerson:uh at least he tried it because that's a long drive to not try yeah yeah i give him credit for at least hucking it but yeah that was he had no business trying that damn shout out kenny your boy yeah um what's the last new trick you learned i think like a year or so ago i did Like Nollie 180, switch backside 5.0 all the way around to back to regular. Oh, sick. That's a good one. That's probably the last one I learned. I could do the Nollie 180 switch 5.0 for a long time. And then I was just like, ah, that one should work. And I was able to figure it out. That's probably the last one. I'm kind of starting to get to the maintenance era of tricks where I'm just trying to hang on to the ones that I've had.
1:04:14Yeah.
1:04:16Davis Torgerson:Dream job after skating. Travel show host. super sick hell yeah i hope that works out um favorite local brand i don't know if it really counts as like a local brand anymore but my buddy kevin turpening runs it so i'll say swim legendary company i love that shit swim squad uh favorite local skater uh this kid katsuya who goes to stoner all the time um his instagram name's like cat in a hat or something but he rips and he just does tricks the way that you want to see people do tricks like he's he's rad sick sick i don't even think he sponsored or anything he just but he shreds what's the one sponsor you regret riding for i never really i never really got to one of those i was kind of flow you know like i said i was flow for like alien dc i was flow for dvs for a while but yeah i never got to that place of having regrettable sponsors clean um favorite teammate ever being able to even be flow for the workshop and you know be associated with guys like van england and dill and josh kalis and like all those people that yeah all the alien guys for sure worst teammate ever i love him to death but i'll just say billy marks because it'll fucking piss him off how about that billy's stuffing zins in his mouth and spitting and fucking yeah he's a maniac but i love him to death hell yeah um where's company i said how about world skate world skates like the group that does like the olympics and oh shit they fucking suck um don't get me wrong garrett hill is like their judge and like i like him a lot like I have no qualms with their guys on the judging panel, but the dudes that run that company fucking suck.
1:06:18They're just like old fucking rollers. They're like old Italian roller skaters that have no interest in what's good for skateboarding. It's just, yeah. Yeah, world skate. World skate sucks shit. Damn.
1:06:30Davis Torgerson:Damn. Oh, yeah. Okay. We'll take it. Worst trend. the self-celebration after landing tricks oh thank god so over that like don't get me wrong there's exceptions to the rule yeah like when you win jocelyn and you battle the eight-year tray flip down eltoro fucking go nuts rip your shirt off but if you like just landed your first try in a contest line and there's still a whole contest to go chill the fuck out yeah man it's an epidemic man yeah i contest these days it's actually crazy it's taking over bro and the kids think it's it's chill now man yeah it's so bro-y i give props to malto because sometimes he like sneak disses when he's announcing street league or like the hand will go like the sec like you just ruin any opportunity for style where you land a trick and before your natural style even happens the hands are in the air and it's like it might be like a perfect kick front feeble that actually was about to be super stylish and epic and you just ruin it and like just at least give it three seconds to breathe so that's a really good one i definitely agree uh worst style i mean there's a couple obvious answers but i feel like they get a hard enough time as it is i want to say billy just to fuck with him but because he loves he loves to bitch in the judge booth because he's like oh his whole thing is like oh if i did that what would i have gotten it's just like a four like four he loves it like he's so he's so like self-deprecating about like all that shit that i'll just say billy just to annoy him damn billy catching strays once again he loves to throw him too so all right man last but not least who's the last person you want on the sesh not because i don't like him he's a great dude but back in the day a few times i had skated with channing and he's fucking awesome and he no no but he does the hell he will just talk your ear off like mid-session so it's like the joke used to be that like he would talk you tight where like he would just talk to you for so long you'd have to go warm up again so i love you channing it's it's i don't mean any disrespect you're a great dude but he will talk your ear off if you let him oh i love that that's funny i like that expression too yeah that shit drives me crazy when you're when you're like at the skate park trying to skate you know especially these days when you have less your body allows you to skate for less time and it's like yo please don't try and have a conversation with me every time I get back to my starting point.
1:09:22Davis Torgerson:It's actually so annoying. Yeah. Yeah. Like at this age, like if you talk to me for five minutes, it's the session's over. There is no rewarm up. At least back then it's like, I could take a few minutes and like rewarm up and get back into the session. But yeah, yeah. This day that's a session ender. Yeah. That was awesome. Well, big cat, thank you for coming on the show, sharing your stories with us. That was, that was an awesome time man we really appreciate it no i really appreciate you guys having me on this was great oh yeah hell yeah switch trade gang for life
1:10:00welcome back to random skater of the week the fastest growing segment on youtube hosted by our good friend davis torgerson and brought to you by mob grip the number one choice of professional skateboarders worldwide and the reason is simple baby it's the grippiest pause this week jack curtain in the goddamn building what's cracking man what's up guys
1:10:23Davis Torgerson:how we doing jack do you skate mob man what's up i do skate mob they are the grip oh that's i thought we were about to have a problem it is the grip yes baby so jack you you've seen like you've seen a couple of them yeah these okay i'm just going to be listing off clues to a random skater you get three guesses you can say them whenever you're going against these two so first one to guess it wins um if everyone blows through all three guesses everyone gets one more guess again in an overtime um you can ask questions yes or no or is it yes or no yeah i'll decide if i answer but you can ask whatever you want sometimes people will say like oh what's this skater's first name i probably won't answer that right for obvious reasons which 411 was he in you will find out yeah there will be one of those do you know your 411's yeah I grew up in that era yeah alright we shall find out it depends on what area the skater is from you guys have been kind of modern you guys go pretty famous skaters you'll always know the skater yeah let's get it alright All right.
1:11:39Davis Torgerson:Previous teammates of this skater include Jeremy Ray, Jeremy Rogers, and Sean Malto. Wow. Shit. Jeremy Ray, Jeremy Rogers, and Sean Malto? Yep. Hmm. And this skater has had a crooked guess board. Oh, my God. okay okay dono did you study up on cricket guess boards up dude fuck no yeah it's like how do you study that's not gonna help i remember hundreds of names but there might be dude i mean okay how many more names do we have left that have had a crooked guest board i mean the list is ongoing dude um according to wikipedia this skater has lived in 20 or lived in 22 homes before the age of 17. what the fuck so moved around a lot as a kid
1:12:55Davis Torgerson:yeah before the age of 17 okay so it was like he didn't share those sponsors together with sean malto and jeremy rogers it's just at one time he was teammates with one of those guys right exactly yeah at one time he was teammates with jeremy ray and also jeremy rogers and also sean malto billabong
1:13:25Davis Torgerson:is that the first company you think of the jeremy rogers like obscure sponsorship i don't know um okay this could we'll see um in 411 issue one oh wow this skater had a trick at EMB the fuck man come on Jack like in the montage or it was in the chaos exactly Jesus Christ at EMB in the chaos I happened to just watch the openers a couple days ago or something. Yeah, I could. Yeah. Oh, shit. Of the first one. They had Mike Carroll's nollie, kickflip knows many nollie he'll out. Did it really? Yeah. I remember it starts with Jeremy Ray's kickflip on the curb cut to curb cut. Speaking of Jeremy Ray.
1:14:31Davis Torgerson:Okay, okay. This skater has had two Thrasher covers. One of them was in 2000. One of them was in 2011 so an 11 year gap between thrasher covers what the fuck let me throw one out there man rick howard
1:14:54Davis Torgerson:not rick howard i believe did did we already do rick howard i don't know i hope so i think we might have done rick howard i need a list of who we've already You said it. Fucked. But it's not Rick Howard. It's a good guess. It's a good guess. I don't remember Rick Howard having a clip at EMB. Ooh, it's a terrible guess. It's a terrible guess. I could be wrong. I could be wrong. Yeah. Okay, so it saves down to two guesses. Cover in 2011. All right. Jack, Dono, you still got three guesses left.
1:15:30Davis Torgerson:I will say that Gons had a guest trick in one of this skater's parts fucking crap I feel like Joe Face already knows it wow Joe Face is living rent free in there it's in your head dude you haven't won in weeks you're bringing up Joe Face mid-ep you guys this is tim o 'connor i'm giving away content did he get it no that's chilling yeah he beat us yeah he fucking whooped him he beat us quick damn whooped him not shocking crooked guess word had a trick gone let's keep going let's keep one of the skaters parts okay more here let's get a first name um rhymes with uh disc skater was once banned from thrasher magazine
1:16:33Davis Torgerson:fuck that rings such a bell jack jack's close with tony maybe he's giving him a list of all this sf shit going on here is it mike is it mike carroll we have two guesses to sort through here Jack was first Jack was first Colby in 4-1-1 It's not Colt Canton Oh yeah And then say you said Mike Carroll It is not Mike Carroll Fuck It's gotta be old to be in 4-1-1 I'm down to one So everyone No you're not No everyone has two guesses left He went Rick and Mike Oh Donald's the only one who hasn't guessed okay sorry my bad jack has one donald's got their jack has two donald's three he's got one
1:17:24Davis Torgerson:throw a name out there man this this game yeah
1:17:30Davis Torgerson:spitzberg sealers hedge coach um say his new favorite coach oh god the skater we're so off the rails this skater is a character in EA Skate what the fuck I don't believe all of them I don't have the official number that they're in or however many they're in I know they're not in all of them is in the game EA Skate fucking hell man bro i got no clue man i need to be a hundred percent confident on this now we need to save and from thrash i can't believe i don't really know um i mean these are we're still pretty vague we're still pretty vague it's gonna start making sense wait next clue next clue could do something could do something i think should we continue yeah um It's going to piss me off.
1:18:36Davis Torgerson:This skater had a part in a video that also featured parts from Josh Casper, Ronnie Krager, and Kareem Campbell. Oh, fuck. Oh, I think I know who it is. Mark Johnson. Did we already do that one? That might have been a guess, dude. That was a full name. That was a whole name. I mean, does he want to guess it or not? It doesn't matter. He said it, dude. He's out. Wait, say the last one. No, he's out, bro. I don't care. He's gone. Hell no. Is it Mark Johnson? Well, you don't know if it's Mark Johnson yet. Say, are you guessing or not? We're going to find out. What do you mean? I'm asking Say if he's guessing or not.
1:19:31Davis Torgerson:I mean, I pretty much said it. I'll be fair with it. It's not Mark Johnson. He's out. He's just hanging out now. Oh, shit. The moral support is early. Donald hasn't even fucking guessed yet. I gotta say Mark Johnson's already been the fucking person. Oh, wow. Okay, wow. What was the last clue? Last clue was this skater had a part in a video where josh casper ronnie crager and cream campbell also had trilogy right that's got to be trilogy and i watch trilogy so fucking much why am i spacing right now i'd have to just guess real quick i mean there was a lot of videos in that era throw some names out there man what the hell is wrong with you I need to buy me again this this skater is in the movie North Hollywood I don't know what the fuck that is okay so Donald's fucked what is that um that was uh uh Mikey from Illegal Civ directed a movie or he used to be from Illegal Civ It was a movie.
1:20:56Davis Torgerson:Wilson's in it. Bobby Morris was in it.
1:21:01Davis Torgerson:There's some skaters in it. This skater also was in that movie. You want more? Yeah, we need more. Cap. This skater had a guest trick in the DC video, but didn't skate for DC. Oh my God. Javier Nunes. I was just about to say that. Nope. But he did have a good trick. Shit But he did have a guess trick I thought that was locked down Damn Donald thought he actually won Fuck Jack thought I won too man Wow That doesn't make sense dude Okay so you both have two guesses left Hold on Let's just chill for a sec Let's just chill for a sec This is crazy Say some names man Soft ass motherfuckers guest trick in the dc video yeah look henry sanchez i had a guest trick in this video in that video henry sanchez probably had a trick at embn issue 411 but it's not oh one more was he in that video shit in the dc video i i don't think so bro this is crazy If I was just watching this on my couch, I would think of this for sure.
1:22:25Davis Torgerson:But like, you just have anxiety. Welcome to the Tearadome, baby. Say some fucking names. Jack's out, quick. New clue. Oh shit, Jack is rattled. I'm rattled. Okay, you guys ready for one more? I should know this shit. Hold on a second. I know, Dono. There's an SF clue coming. You might want to... Just be prepared. Skip that one, dude. Alright, let's hear it. They've all been SF clues, man. I know. This skater switch flipped the library flat gap in SF. Oh.
1:23:10Davis Torgerson:Yo, Jack is gonna be pissed if he loses this. Uh-oh. You're spoofing Jack this fucking dub right now, bro. Tony might ban you from Thrasher. he was banned from thrashers switched with the fucking gap he had a crooked board and Mark Gonzalez was in his fucking part 4111 and a trick at EMB in 411 issue 1 who's video who's video part in DC video what the fuck that's too much we got more clues to get he was not on DC so yo if I spend this last guess like how quickly does he have to use his next dude? That's a great question I will say that within, he gets one more clue and then he has to burn both guesses How does that sound?
1:24:04Davis Torgerson:Come on, Dono, step up to the plate. Because we don't want one person just sitting here listening. Spend another guess, Jack Come on, just fire one off Yeah, come on, give Dono Bring Dono and say back into the game. I'm in the game what do you mean i mean kind of i'm never really in the game you're not in the game henry sanchez i thought it was can we go back to that javier nunez and double check it was imagine if i chose henry sanchez right now are you kidding me oh the epic okay come on man next guy's on some shit um next clue you ready yeah uh this skater switch crooked the epa hubba in cincinnati What which was made famous?
1:24:46Davis Torgerson:Oh my god, Josh K that wait. No you've you've been do it my dude Does that count in the habitat video in the habitat video? That's too much Fred gall It is not Fred gall And he said Josh K I said Josh K
1:25:11i think it might leave it that could be a different josh k did he say kalis
1:25:23Davis Torgerson:the cincinnati hubba the one that danny ronald switched back to that is the hubba who the fuck did that dude fred golf did you want to guess do you do you want to guess josh kalis or No, because he didn't do that. He ain't doing that. He wouldn't have a guest trick in the DC video. Okay. Good point. So, Jack, can you clarify that?
1:25:53Davis Torgerson:He may have, but Fred Gall didn't have all these other clues. Was Fred Gall in North Hollywood? That would be safe. Yo, fuck it, man. I'm so bummed. I can't think of this shit. Wait, does Dono have another guest left? Give me one more clue, and then we're going to spend it, no matter what. So you each have one guest left. Okay. Get me back in. Jason Dill. Oh, that's it. It's Jason Dill. That's it. Let's go. That's too easy, man. I mean, that wasn't easy at all. I knew he was in photosynthesis. Fuck. It was in photosynthesis. Good clues, man. Those are confusing clues. That was awesome. I thought I was trying to go switch crook that too.
1:26:40Davis Torgerson:And he switched between photosynthesis. Wow. Now it's all coming to me. You know what, Jack? I feel like I toyed with you a little bit because there were so many SF clues in there. But not good. You wouldn't think Jason Dill. That's what threw me off. Safe against three guys that have already done all three of them, I think. He did. He did. Can we do a thing? Can I get the list? Can we get the list? No, because it's funnier when you guess the skaters don't have the list. Oh, shit. That was epic. Oh, man. Yeah, that was a good one. I didn't want to guess, but I felt like that was cheap if I took that back after basically saying Mark Johnson.
1:27:23Davis Torgerson:It would have been weird. Mark Johnson, too. That was a close one, too. Josh Caleb. Damn, they both switched No, it was Jason Dill. I just remember being in photosynthesis with the DC. Yeah, I think Fred Gall did Switch 50180 or Switch Tail or something. Yeah, Switch 50180. Yeah, he was in Abe's part, right? I remember you. He was in Abe's part in the DC video. He shared a sponsor with Jeremy Ray for Blockhead Skateboards. Jeremy Rogers DVS, Malto Etnies. Ooh, random. the two thrasher covers fuck I forget what the one in 2000 was the one in 2011 was when he frontside nose grind tail grab yankin in that trans world video what was his trick in the EMB do you remember he nollied the seven stare wow sick fucking OG Jack you should be ashamed of yourself no but it wasn't an SF guy rub me it Why was he banned from Thrasher?
1:28:32What did he do? I don't even know. I never even heard that.
1:28:36Davis Torgerson:I don't know exactly, but it was something having to do with he skated for a brand called Color with Jeremy Ray, and there was some tension between that brand and Thrasher. So I read this in an interview that just was like, yeah, me and Ray were banned from Thrasher for skating for Color. All right, Jack. Thank you, man. Keep shredding. Keep doing your thing. Always a pleasure. Thanks, boys. You've got mail. Welcome back to the post office brought to you by our good friends over at Dickie's Skateboarding. Quality workwear since 1922 from the work site to the streets. Ain't nobody keep you fitted like Dickie's, man.
1:29:13All right, Ghost, who we got up first?
1:29:17Davis Torgerson:First up, we got a voice note from Chris Slumpbuster. And he's hollering from Switzerland. Let's take a listen. What's up, my gang? Chris Tobin coming at you. montrose switzerland love the new season so far sandra's episode was great love bringing in the canadian homies especially the stories that you guys can chip in on be a part of those are always great to hear my question for you guys as a 33 year old still trying to get my reps in on the board and whatnot wondering if you have any suggestions to break what i'm calling a bit of a skate slump. Maybe it's the weather, but I've taken a bit of time off and felt a little less motivated to go out and skate.
1:30:07Davis Torgerson:I'm wondering if you have any suggestions to get sparked again, or even if you experience the same thing from time to time. Anyways, looking forward to another barn burner of the season. Keep up the good work. Much love.
1:30:25Davis Torgerson:Slump buster, man. slump buster dude that's part of being canadian we call it the winter dude uh it happens every year for me definitely and probably for others as well hard to find the motivation to go skate the same indoor parks over and over and over again uh usually take quite a bit of time off at the beginning of the winters and then slowly start to skate a little bit more again and again as spring is approaching. Yeah, man. Skating's all about repetition. So the more you skate, the better you're going to feel. Just slowly start to ramp it back up.
1:31:07Davis Torgerson:Yeah. Agreed. For me, I try not to get into slumps. So I'll just skate even if I really don't feel like it. Because when I want to skate, I don't want to be rusty. and that's when you really get into a slump when you take like when you just let yourself not skate for a while then it's like gotta climb the mountain slowly again so like even if i'm not in the mood to skate i'll try and skate um even on those days where i really don't feel like it to avoid a slump in the first place but good luck g hope you get out of that slump asap you dig it's gotta keep those legs moving man just get it moving get a little sweat going all right next up we've got an email from Aaron Wheat.
1:31:50What's up Bunk Gang? Denver Native here. I just listened to the Tim Gavin episode. Great interview. Dude's a legend. Anyways, in the post office, someone mentioned the 303 boys went to KC and committed some ABD violations. I like skate beef just as much as the next skate nerd, but let's be honest. I don't think the new generation pays attention to ABDs like we used to back in the day. That level of skate etiquette went out the window once videos went from DVD to Instagram and YouTube. It's just hard to keep up anymore. Dude suggested maybe there was some malicious intent behind the Colorado attack on KC spots.
1:32:27I highly doubt that's true, but who knows? Here's why I don't think so. I worked at 303 from 99 to 2016-ish. I can say without a doubt, 303 and Escapist have historically had nothing but love for each other. Now, obviously, I can't speak for the new generation of 303 Rippers, but back in the day, the done having fun boys aka malto and a crew of like 20 dudes were always welcoming and they would give ratto dudes tricks and escapist videos and same for them in friend sections of 303 videos we were just like one big multi-state skate family i will say though when those dudes first started coming to colorado around 2003 or 4 they just barged into our house uninvited granted it was the skate party house Aaron Chillin the escapist filmer ejected the movie we were watching without asking Fubar was our favorite movie at the time and put in the stoned age and said your movie sucks you guys are watching this now that was strike one then they started calling our boy David Reyes the poor man's malto malto and Reyes were both probably about 12 at the time and they They were both little kid rippers that represented each other's hometown skate scene.
1:33:42That was strike two. And before you know it, they probably got to strike three and then all the way to 100. You know what? Fuck those dudes. Denver should run their spots into the ground. And just like the Broncos did to their Chiefs back in December. You fools ain't going to pull out your dusty old red and yellow video ever again. What what punk bitches say we won't. And then he says ha ha ha a bunch of times. just kidding love all you Casey dudes nothing but love it's hard to say nothing but love after just coming at them like that but all right Casey has always had some phenomenal skateboarders great spots good food and okay-ish sports teams this fake beef did give me a video idea though escapist crew comes to Denver for a week and tries to film nothing but MBDs on Denver spots and 303 dudes go to KC and do the same.
1:34:35Best shop wins. It's the second coming of the crew battle videos. I'd love to see it. Thanks, Bunt Boys. Love the show. Keep burning them bards down. Sweet. Holy shit. So my favorite thing now is when people say no offense and then proceed to insult people. It doesn't work. So just leave out the no offense part or like say something and then say just kidding. There was no kidding behind that email. It was a thought out, well written. I'm going to explain to you what happened. I got no words for this beef, man. I think it's wicked. They should continue it.
1:35:12Davis Torgerson:Yeah, I don't like the video idea because what's the point of seeing NBDs? It's already been done, so it's not even like you're flexing. You're just doing something that's been done. If you really want to do the beef, just go to each other's cities and see who can put together the best montage in a week or whatever. Best edit. but i i love that too our boy revigs is the king of that saying no offense and then just saying something offensive uh and steven a is is the the overlord of all of it he says no disrespect and then proceeds to be highly disrespectful yes but i think that i think it is all love at the end of the day um i would love to see a video battle but uh let's keep it let's keep it friendly you dig okay no actual beef keep the beef to skating uh it's good for it okay next up we got an email from rodney cox video filmer pet peeves yo bunk gang thanks for keeping the pod going strong the pod game is not for the week anyways two-part question one do you have a general filmer video any general filmer slash video pet peeves the classic example is the overly zoomed in shoes usually during or after a single trick and two are there any video pet peeves you have when a trick is filmed in a certain way my example a tray flip or switch tray film backside and stays backside I'd love to hear your thoughts I have a quick question about this filming thing when someone is filming say a backside flip or a frontside flip do you want them to roll up frontside to the camera or land frontside to the camera
1:37:09Davis Torgerson:um front side flip i kind of like it when they land front side to the camera or i mean straight on is always the opposite too but and backside flip i actually i don't mind when they land facing like back to the camera like i'm thinking so you want well reynolds had so many angles yeah yeah i think so because you can see like if it's rocket or whatever like reynolds backside flip um waldenberg i'm pretty sure the main angle was front side and he lands like you see his crouch right if i remember correctly but there was multiple angles but yeah that's i never thought about that i think the way you're like flipping i want to see the foot that's flicking like i don't want it to go blind side to the camera for the most part i would say exactly agreed um video pet peeve um yeah i kind of especially when i was younger i hated when montages didn't have names and you're like who was that or whatever that shit just drove me crazy but now that videos are so scrambled it's become the norm but that's one thing that always bothered me as a kid um i don't like excessive b-roll like there's there's videos that do it taste for you like um fucking minefield is great uh it doesn't feel like it's taking away from the skating but it's more so the b-roll when it's like too much homey celebrations we don't need to see a high five in between every clip and we certainly don't need to see people like the self fellatio rightaways you know what i'm saying like i remember dude kyle walker had one of his bands parts a couple years ago and it i think it might have been when he won sodium it's an amazing part but there was just too many like we don't need to see the five six seconds of right away celebrations.
1:39:20Davis Torgerson:That one comes to mind. And we don't need to see smoking weed be rolling. That's like... Don't eat it, man. Yeah. Yeah. And off top, I can't think of an example of... Let's move on. Sorry, G. We got to be quick today. Well, we went over our video angles. All right, next up, we've got a voice note from Corey Hirsch. Let's take a listen. What's worse? What's worse? One really big butt or lots of really small butts?
1:40:06Davis Torgerson:I love that. I love these concise voice notes. They're glorious. uh i would say lots of little bunts is probably worse like it's if you have a major bunt one time okay you fucking you know thought you could go a little more ham than you could got the reality check it's over but if you're the homie that's constantly being like yo dragging the whole crew here one day and the next day and the next day and then the trip's over and you didn't get a damn clip you're just bunting all over the place even if they're smaller I'd say one that's worse than one big bun yeah lots of little bunts means lots of sessions which is gonna be a no-go one big bunch is kind of wicked to just have that under your belt like yo he claimed this massive thing that's his one big bunt little bunting is just fucking annoying i think yeah like my swiss smith or fucking sheckler's backside foot you know what i'm saying just haunt you for the rest of your life nah people don't get it man people don't get it dude how are you supposed to do if you're hurt yeah that's all good all right um let's see here this might be the last one of the week here skate migration from Peter Noblock.
1:41:33Davis Torgerson:What's up bunters my name is Peter I'm originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and I've been living in Barcelona for almost nine years now. At 24 years old I took my first trip out of the U.S. here with a bunch of homies from SF and I ended up falling in love with the city and was lucky enough to be able to move here. The skate scene and the overall environment had me hooked and I was stoked by this challenge of learning Spanish. my question is before you guys popped off with the podcast have you guys ever traveled anywhere to skate and contemplated making a move there just for the skate scene a year before our trip to barcelona in 2017 i had gone to san diego to visit a few homies and it was also an amazing and it was also amazing and i tried to dip from the bay and make my way down there but the timing just didn't work out another place i visited that gave me the same feeling as montreal but those winters are fucking brutal and i had already settled down in barcelona so fuck that last thing for safe a bang bang niner gang and good luck with mccarthy and your horrendous qb situation next season go ahead and chirp all you want and a middle finger emoji oh oh i i regret taking my time to read all that you bastard you got it you got a city donald no man i've never even contemplated moving um from toronto i can't even move out of the city into the suburbs for crying out loud i just have the the fear of leaving the known which is toronto but if i had to move i'd probably move to Florida or Detroit.
1:43:16Something like that. Not too far. Not Buffalo?
1:43:25Davis Torgerson:I support your bills. You know what I'm saying? The man that with the Detroit Lions had every week. The hat that fits the best, dude. You should just officially switch to Lions fan, man. You even took your son to see a Lions game this year? Come on, bro. It was inside. It was indoors, dude. You've been to those outdoor games. You can't put a five-year-old through that. Yeah, no, no. I hear you. But I'm just saying, maybe he's now fucks with the Lions more than anything, you know? Yeah, I'm the same. i've never actually confused fully thought about it actually no that's not true this had nothing to do with skating but i grew up in montreal so i told myself i moved from there when i was 10 and i was like all right i want to live in montreal for more time in my life than toronto so i told myself when i turned 20 i'm moving back to toronto at montreal but that had nothing to do with skating although I do love the skate scene there if I had to at this point in my life fucking skate scene I'd probably move to LA now if anything but that's a boring answer but the weather man the weather and hello homies down there that's the only way I would move somewhere is to just be warm year round you know that would be the goal I wish there was somewhere with just like a more concise winter because I do love winter I love the like pause makes you like summer a bit more but I just want like yeah bro we don't need six months of pain and then black snow and rain and grey skies it's the agony of the continuation alright we got one more quick quick quick one alright coming in from Noah Hi, Bunt Gang.
1:45:28I've loved seeing the evolution of the podcast, especially the shift of video. I'm curious. Do you ever miss being audio only or do you prefer being on video now? Have you noticed a significant difference in reach or engagement since adding video? You guys genuinely make my work days go by faster and make me laugh a lot more. So thank you for that. I appreciate everything you do. wow very nice email um there are days i missed audio only but i don't know i thought it would be like a huge change to video but it was pretty seamless like the first year was tough but luckily we've had unreal people helping behind the scenes through the transition to video and then handing off to other people so it's a huge testament to everybody that that works on the pod that made it this all capable.
1:46:21And Saifa really wanted to move to video. I would have stayed audio only. I hate change.
1:46:29Davis Torgerson:Yeah, no, there's no going back now. I miss simpler times, but this is what it is and hyped to be here.
1:46:43Alright, that's going to wrap up the post office for this week. Get your emails, voice notes, video notes whatever the hell you got into thebuntlive at gmail.com
1:47:00this is the rundown the skateboard world source for sports ghosts right now the only sport going is the nba and i've been kind of tuned out of the nba a little bit absolutely locked in to the olympics brings out the canadian pride for two weeks i I mean, I'm watching curling and cheering. I'm watching speed skating. I'm watching all sorts of skiing and snowboarding. Have to shout out Mark McMorris, man. Put on a performance, but he will. Something to be proud of, man. Three bronze medals in the bag already. Four Olympic appearances. Truly one of the greatest Canadian athletes of all time. Maybe the best snowboarder from Canada of all time.
1:47:44And then the main event, men's Olympic hockey. I literally just finished watching the gold medal game. Close one against Czechia. Mitch Marner gets it done in overtime. We score with 30 seconds left against Finland. Nathan McKinnon with the big goal. And then the gold medal game. I thought Canada thoroughly outplayed the U.S. The U.S. scored early. And then usually what happens in those games, they kind of try to hold on to the lead. Canada was pushing. Ice was tilted. I think we had 20 more shots than they did. Devon Taves misses a wide open net. Hellbuck gets a stick on it. Nate McKinnon misses an open net.
1:48:24Two breakaways. McDavid, Celebrini. I mean, that's the big three guys right there on offense all getting. Grade A scoring chances just wasn't there for us. And in overtime, Jack Hughes makes Canada pay, which is probably the biggest goal the U.S. have ever scored in their life. um very weird thing seeing austin matthews happy at the end of a tournament or season was pretty crazy they interviewed him and he was quite speechless uh dude sad day hard loss to take but uh that's what happens in these one one loss eliminations you know it's not a series where you can slowly make it back dude you gotta you gotta bury those chances when they come and i know Devon Taves and Nate McKinnon are going to be thinking about those open nets for a long time
1:49:15Davis Torgerson:absolutely brutal especially that the first one you mentioned where the goalie stick just happened to deflect it like it was it was right there for the taking all the momentum on Canada's side that was I mean like I was telling the homies they're like oh you're Canadian you love this shit I'm like I actually don't really care about hockey but i know my friends do so much that like i get i end up so emotionally invested and then it like goes away after the game is over but i'm so in it just thinking about you revigs fucking six all the all our hockey boys um so i definitely got wrapped up in it the last a week or so and fun fact fucking our boy adam reviglia he went 23 well we we always hit the fan duel shitty i'm saying he went 23 for 23 on money lines and i was tailing him on everyone so we like we built our shit up from like i think he started with 19 bucks i started with five or something and we we got it up to a couple hundred and then we ended up going 23 for 24 obviously we put uh money down you put it all on no no no no no we put 50 i think i still have like 200 and something bucks um but it's still i mean i watching the game i stopped caring about the money like the other games when i'm watching finland or something i'm like i need this parlay to survive but this game i was fully like just a canadian rooting for our boys and it's just fucking a bummer i can't believe the u.s women and men beat us in overtime in both right in the finals crazy two one in both games yeah you're right brutal no it's crazy because last year when we played in that four nations tournament i think that the u.s played a better game than us and we ended up winning in overtime but that overtime stayed five on five the olympics switched to three on three which is you know it just causes to end the game real quick so it's really just a roll of the dice who's going to win a three on three game if you commit two guys going down on one side you only have one coming back um not really the way hockey's played but it is what it is there's nothing you can do about it these u.s men have been knocking on the door for a few years now uh they were desperate they hung on for their lives connor hellbuck that goalie was incredible A lot of guys on the U.S.
1:51:47team, people say never get the job done in the big game. So to see Hellebuck, Matthews win is, you know, I'm not like an American hater. I obviously love Canada, cheer for Canada, but the captain of our hockey team is the captain of the U.S. team. So it's a weird feeling. Like, this is a Matthews household. We respect Matthews as one of the greatest made beliefs of all time. And then for two weeks, we have to cheer against him. take the posters down tuck the jerseys away but uh congrats to the us man i know rob from plus skateboarding was hitting me up nervous as all hell one thing we can all agree on is that we all hate the kachuk brothers so shout out rob you want this one i owe you a case of beer
1:52:33Davis Torgerson:is what it is okay so one one silver lining that maybe uh lease fans can take i remember the 2008 late olympics was the first time i kept hearing about this like you go you win a gold and then you take that confidence back to your franchise and we know the leafs have troubles you know get to the next level so maybe matthews takes something home you know getting to the finish line and this helps propel him in the playoffs so we'll see we'll hope i'm happy for matthews man that was a it was one of those games where it wasn't like we got thoroughly outplayed and lost like i thought it's hard to be upset with them the players like they played a much better game they were the better team more chances they just 2-1 game 3-on-3 in overtime it just sucks that it ends like that I really feel for the Canadian players it's probably an awful dejected feeling and no Sidney Crosby man what a tough pill to swallow but shout out Team Canada they rep for the country they won some big games on the way shit.
1:53:41It's over. Fuck. Four more years. And the U.S. has all the bragging rights. It doesn't get any worse than this, man. You got the Blue Jays losing in game seven. Now Team Canada losing in overtime. I mean, the Bills losing in dramatic fashion. Dude, I can't win a fucking damn game.
1:54:00Davis Torgerson:Bad year for you. You know what? Mentally hockey team got worked for nothing on Friday. right after the blue jays lost i went to la and was subjected to non-stop chirps everywhere i went oh it's my canadian homie in town oh blue jays brutal unfortunately i just arrived in tampa florida last night and i happened to be with the number one chirper again paco jefferson so I'm probably about to get roasted for four days straight. I'm hyped. Let's get it. Let's switch over to something. One last thing. We got PSL, man. PSL week two in the books. Exciting. Not matchups as close as I would have liked.
1:54:54We still haven't seen Ishad Ware step on his board. you know the tropics they look good but they could use a shot still haven't seen zach saracino i think that lithium might make a push to make the playoffs it's gonna be hard going down oh two but let's hear it mvp of the week underperformer of the week and then team on the rise hmm
1:55:25Davis Torgerson:MVP damn those are some good games maybe he'll go per game because in SHS vs Wolverines Paul started which was great but the MVP there has got to be your main man John 1 of 1 he put on a clinic defensively absolutely beast another thing that cracked me up was when and you even heard the guys saying it that were mic'd up remember how roman did the back 180 switch 50 which you think is a guaranteed letter it's two weeks in a row now where that got defended uh hats off to um i'm blanking on the little homie's name but he did the julian did the pressure flip on defense which was insane and the back 180 switch 50 uh shs came out the gates real slow and they weren't they were looking i think a lot of us in the app predicted wolverines to get the biggest margin of victory over at shs but paul and them came out with a new game plan uh the substitutions were great and they they put the wolverines to sleep man yeah they did a slow death for the Wolverines.
1:56:45I expected more from them. But SHS, man. That's your squad. I like the coaching adjustments by SHS. SHS were incredible. I still believe in the Wolverines. They might need to use Chris Colburn a little bit more out of the gates. You got to start strong. Go ruthless to start the game. So MVP of that match, yeah, I'm giving it to one of one quickly becoming one of my favorite PSL performers but my team is still the Wolverines still believe in the squad did you want to give an underperformer of that matchup someone you wanted a little bit more out of of that matchup might be
1:57:33Davis Torgerson:unnecessary let's
1:57:38alright moving over Tropics and Lithium this was a beat down from the beginning. I mean, Lithium, you know, going into innings two or ends, whatever it is, two and three, started to close the gap, make a little game of it. But Mario McCoy, they need Serenino to get healthy because if they can run the lineup of Deshaun, McCoy, and Zach, then we're getting somewhere. Underperformer of the week, Alex Midler, right the guy did an ollie at one point i know what they were doing they were just trying to get it back to mccoy but an ollie for crying out loud and then they had the sean come in the the coaching was messed up they had deshaun doing the rail tricks midler's literally there for the rail tricks
1:58:29Davis Torgerson:like uh the tropics just it made no sense that uh midler goes for 270 back lip yeah midler going for 270 like front board front 270 front board slipping out and then deshaun just does it his teammate does it right after him back to switch like that was that was bad coaching and then also midler not not reading the scouting report hits the 270 back lip or the back 270 like lip and then dufreen does it right after bolts so yeah they need zach desperately yeah they're desperate need of zach tropics taking care of business uh losing a tight one last week getting back to one and one and then the last matchup of the week the soldiers versus los santos dude the fact that los santos subs out felipe and then they sutu comes in uh i don't know about you uh or what happened on draft night but did these guys just fall into los santos hands man because they have the most complete team i think yeah the big the big thing that happened on draft day was ginwu being slept on because no one knew his jumping abilities and i also saw that he didn't even jump that much before but once he got into this contest he started practicing uh jumping as opposed to rail stuff thing we need to hear but then his rail stuff automatic as well um he yeah he might be the mvp of the whole thing but to lose felipe and replace him with a sody um just almost unfair but he picked miles first felipe went miles silvis and then somehow got getting on the back end and then even the descenzo like everyone on their bench it's the deepest team in the league by far and i think it's theirs to lose but los santos man And it was only a one-point game.
2:00:27Davis Torgerson:So that might have been a finals preview. No Felipe, no problem. Bro, when you got fucking Suchu doing a laser flip on defense. Yeah. Shit's for real. The best part about this is they've got Kyle Walker on the bench processing payments left, right, and center. Los Santos, man, looks like they might be top shelf. But it was nice to see Nigel do his thing, man. He's going to be a problem as well. Yeah, I also love the nollie back 5-0 trick selection. Ain't no one trying to nollie back 5-0 round rail. If they haven't been practicing them, Miles went for it. I'm sure he could get it with another try or two, but that was great trick selection right there.
2:01:21Davis Torgerson:All in all, epic week two for PSL. Congrats to everyone involved. Los Santos, man. The team to beat these days. Okay, before we go, 30 seconds. Top three power ranking.
2:01:35Los Santos, Soldiers, and I actually think SHS is going to be a problem going forward.
2:01:44Davis Torgerson:They figured out their lineup. Are you kidding me? They've got some depth. What's yours? That's crazy. I'm going Los Santos, Tropics, Wolverines. Got to stick with my Wolverines. They got to stay in there. And the list is fluid. So next week, Wolverines could be done. All right, y 'all. Thank you for listening. That's going to wrap up this week's episode of The Bunt. Y 'all know where to find us next week.
