In short
TJ Rogers returns for a “round two” conversation about his career changes, surviving testicular cancer, his signature shoe and world tour, and the mindset behind his most iconic switch 180s and other recent big tricks.
Guest backgrounds
TJ Rogers is a longtime Canadian-born skater (grew up in Whippy, Ontario; started skating around 1999/2000). He turned pro after moving to California in April 2014. He previously rode for Blind for about 15 years, then left after brand ownership chaos (Bravo acquisition in 2019; COVID-era instability) and joined Skate Mafia. He’s also a cancer survivor (diagnosed Jan 2022).
Key claims
TJ says his goal in his big shoe year wasn’t SOTY, but a strong presentation for his signature shoe release; he felt he’d likely miss SOTY because Thrasher typically requires a cover. He credits skating during chemo (short nighttime sessions at NoHo) for keeping him mentally and physically sane. He frames his approach as “embrace it” and “look what’s next,” not “why me.”
Notable examples
He describes a Mexico trip where the crew jumped a fence at a school spot, got arrested, and spent ~25 hours in jail; they paid 10,000 pesos to get out, and one underage skater was processed through juvie. He recounts his cancer timeline (surgery within 1–5 weeks; chemo four rounds). He details his signature shoe path (asked S&F for shoes in Jan 2019; flow for ~2.5 years; pro shoe years later) and his world tour despite a torn ankle ligaments. He also covers switch 180 attempts: El Toro (7 tries, then 2nd session), Vancouver (5th try), and SF Happy Friday (third try after revisiting the spot ~9–10 years later; he cried 20 minutes after landing).

3:46Davis Torgerson:From the classics to the latest releases and a 24 hour live channel for when you just want to kick back and zone out. The Den was made so when something special comes along, it stays front and center long after the feeds moved on. So if you care about skate videos like we do, become a member and download the Den for free on iPhone, Android, the web, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV. 6:43It's been a while since we had him here. Let's get back to it. TJ Rogers, round two.
6:56How do you do it?
6:58Davis Torgerson:I forget every time. He had to spark it himself, man. I forget every time. Is that it? It's left over right. Index fingers to the ring fingers. Left over right. Thumbs always tugged. Look at all that bling. Skateboard it is. We got T.J. Rogers in the building. T.J., what's cracking, man? Not chilling, dog. Good to see you guys again. Yes, sir. Here we go again, man. Happy to have you back. Round two. Ten years later, almost. Hit us with your favorite skate and sports moment, man. Favorite skate moment was definitely when I switched 360 to Hollywood back in the day. I think I said that last time, too, for the interview.
7:37And then favorite sports moment was when the Raptors won the championship. Tell them, dude. Tell them what the fuck is good, man.
7:47Davis Torgerson:All right. Up north, baby. I like that shit. You're in Vancouver now. I remember we were actually in Vancouver for one of those games, like game one or two. That's right. Great year for the city. All right, Tiege, we got to hit you with the same three as last time, and then we'll get into some new new. But take us back to the beginning. where'd you grow up and how'd you get into skating yeah i grew up in whippy ontario which is about 40 minutes east of toronto started skating like 99 probably 2000 uh started skating because i was at an audio demo i was actually on a bike and some of the skaters were yelling at me telling me to get off that bike and on a board yeah i ended up getting on a board it was the best thing that ever happened to me i don't think i knew that story that's it dude where was the audio demo it was at your call oh i was gonna say wippy park that's your spot man stoked that i ended up fucking going to that even though i was like not into skating you know and yeah embrace it and here we are 26 27 years later dude demo is so important to little kids man dude they're everything you know changed my whole life mine would have changed just if it didn't push me off the mini ramp but It's a story we've told a couple times before.
9:00TJ, first big break in the skate industry, man. Tell us. First big break, I would like to think, was probably right around the time when I just turned pro, I would like to think, maybe, like 2014. Just moved to California, April 2014. Yeah, within like six months of living there, I ended up turning pro, and that was kind of when, you know, I was able to, like, get a little bit more money, and I was able to provide for myself a little bit more. uh just from skateboarding and yeah it's definitely a big break that's a huge break man so
9:32Davis Torgerson:it's been nine and a half years roughly since you were last on the pod feels like a lifetime ago but let's not cover all the same stuff as last time so let's start with some of the main changes in your career since then uh you parted ways with blind and you made the move to skate mafia so tell Let's go back in time to that decision. The whole blind situation, it was unfortunate at the time, but everything happens for a reason. I was with the team for about 15 years. It was a great time working with Wiese and everyone over at that company. What happened was Wiese and everyone kind of lost control of the brands at the company because the entity that owned all of the brands got bought out by this company called Bravo back in 2019.
10:17and then once COVID hit that's kind of when everything started to kind of go in array array I think and it was just chaos and then yeah I ended up leaving that and then yeah getting on mafia you know and I'm like super stoked that I was able to get a part of that team because uh yeah it was like a dream come true to be able to like rock with like a bunch of homies that I grew up looking up to but also um have like become good friends with you know I've had a lot of respect and love for those guys over the years, just watching them from afar, that it was like so cool that they like welcomed me into their like family and their brand like that.
10:52Were you a free agent for a little bit? Because it's got to be kind of scary switching from a company you've been on for so long and then just kind of being in the weeds for a little bit. Yeah, I mean, it was definitely not too quick of a transition, but also there's just a lot of shit going on in my own personal life. Like it was pretty much like when I just beat cancer, I was already kind of just going through my own shit and I was like, you know, what the fuck is going to happen? Am I going to, you know, still be able to skate professionally or, you know, like what's going to happen here, you know?
11:24So it was really relieving that like they welcomed me and they wanted to support me. And yeah, it's been so sick just getting to know all of them and skate with them every time I go down there, you know? For sure. And the iconic first board on Mafia, dude, he had to do them Drake styles, dude. I appreciate that man yeah no respect yeah no I had to I mean like I said I got to bring it back to the roots and uh we're like thinking of graphics at that time and me and Wiese talked about that graphic a long time ago but never ended up wanting to do it and then we we just thought about it and mentioned it to Dan at Mafia and he was like dude I'm so down ended up like sending him a photo he photoshopped it on and fucking yeah I made it happen it was probably like one of my favorite graphics that i've ever had yeah yeah for sure iconic man nowadays your teammates with some all-time greats and bunt favorites what's it like being on those epic skate mafia sessions with guys like brandon turner west kramer alexis ramirez like what are the sessions like man oh dude it's just pure hype every time we go out and skate like we usually like a typical day we just meet up we either meet up at like pb park or like some park down south go cruise around for a little bit and then just hit a bunch of spots together we all jump in the van and just kick it and just go check out spots you know and it's just a good vibe i haven't gone on too many trips but the one trip that we went on to mexico was definitely one for the fucking books like when we were supposed to be out there for a weekend it was there literally less than three hours and then went to jail for 25 hours we we went to jail we were in jail yeah we were in jail longer than we were actually there as like free civilians like skating you know and having fun so it's pretty fucking epic what did you guys do what happened we just were we went down to mexico which is like a couple hours east of like the tijuana border went to go skate down there for a little bit and um yeah we had one of the homies dg that's like from that area showing us around and we ended up like hitting a couple spots did our thing and then we ended up i seen seen this one spot that was like in a school but it was like fenced off and i didn't know that it wasn't really like uh you know it was like forbidden to like jump over a fence and skate you know mexico so like we all just you know just jumped over the fence skated the spot me and alexis got a clip and then right as we're jumping over the fence cops come and they fucking arrest us and i guess the principal of the school was like on site and seen us and called the cops and thought we were like vandalizing shit so they like went on like face like live and started filming us and trying to make an example out of all of us so they like went through the whole car stole a bunch of money from some of the homies like some jewelry and shit too like yeah it was a whole ordeal that was funny at the time it wasn't funny at the time but looking back at it pretty fucking funny you know yeah it's crazy usually when they get the money and shit that's
14:23Davis Torgerson:supposed to be the okay now we don't go to jail that's supposed to be the trade-off but yeah because the homie i think the principal was filming because so they like had to make an example so they like cuffed us booked us and everything i remember b money like literally had his phone on him the whole time almost like as we were like getting about to get chip processed in and like go chill in jail we're gonna sell like he had his phone all the way up until like the very last second i remember like getting telling him to like hit up my girl and like messaging her on instagram to be like hey like yo like i'm not ghosting you but like i'm not gonna message you for a little while it was funny times man it was so good though so how'd you get out uh i think like after a certain like i don't know 24 hours of being in there i think dg's mom was coming in to the jail as well just to like try and you know mitigate and try and help us get out and she ended up like bargaining with them to where we had to pay like 10 000 pesos and we finally got out but we had to wait like 25 hours so we ended up paying that and then bounce how much is 10 000 pesos it's probably like 800 bucks us type vibe so 1200 canadian you know pretty much like a thousand bucks a head but what was even more fucked too like i missed this out at the beginning of the story there was like nine of us there in the van and one of us like out of the nine was underage and he was from japan so they had to book him through juvie and he was almost like his parents from japan almost had to fly out to mexico to get him out of jail but luckily like his parents wrote him a letter stating that uh b money brandon turner was his legal guardian and so once so once b money was allowed to get out of jail then he was allowed to be processed you know yeah so it was just it was fuck dude good times that's not good you keep saying good times and that was funny but don't sound very funny bro it was a shit show all your money and your jewelry i didn't lose shit actually so dg's mom pulled up to the fucking scene right before we all like went in and i literally gave her all my jewelry because i already knew i was gonna get robbed and she took all my jewelry but no one else gave their shit to her and they got robbed like a couple couple mafia rings like 600 bucks cash fucking a chain yeah yeah that's street smarts baby it's fucking not gonna do that again no more jumping fences in mexico um you mentioned it briefly earlier, but in 2022, got the devastating diagnosis of testicular cancer.
17:05Davis Torgerson:Being the beast that you are, you obviously persevered. But take us back to the beginning of that unfortunate journey. Talked about it a few times. But yeah, I mean, I pretty much got diagnosed January 2022. I was back in Cali at the time, and I had just gotten my dog um for my 30th birthday and she i was like teaching her how to play fetch and at that time she like kept trying to like scratch me and hit me in like my lower region you know and i was like what the fuck are you doing you know like go get the ball and uh yeah she ended up hitting me once like pretty hard and yeah i ended up like hurting for a couple days and then ended up like yeah having sex with some shorty and then uh ended up like after i busted like it felt like my nuts were being like clamped with like a vice grip like it felt so fucked that i ended up like being like all right i gotta go get this checked you know so ended up going to get it checked and then yeah one thing led to another had cancer and then got it removed probably within like a month to five weeks after feeling that sensation um after surgery i had to wait about another like three weeks just to get blood work to make sure everything was okay my certain tumor markers were still elevated so they asked me to come back in two weeks did that still elevated so i had to do chemo and my chemo just consisted of four rounds which was like five days on and then two weeks off and it was like a four to five hour infusion each day and yeah it was what it was fuck dude as gnarly as hell um i'm glad it's in the rear view and obviously seeing you the last few years fucking didn't let that slow you down one bit so hats off to you it is what it is you know it's perspective is key on it and i think like i didn't fall a victim to um thinking that like you know like why is this happening to me like i kind of was just like all right i embrace it for what it was and then i just tried to look what was next what i had to do to get better ultimately I got better and here we are a couple of years later.
19:15Love it. You have an extremely strong mental state, dude. That could break a lot of people, but clearly, I mean, you went about it the right way and it's, it's great that you tell the story and, and you know, the way you went through it is, it's admirable, Doug. Ultimately, as I've learned through my own experiences, you just got to do what gives you the most confidence and gives you that happiness and fulfillment and i think anything that you want to achieve or you put your mind to you can do there's there's no limitations out there in this world other than the ones that you put on yourself so yeah you just got to always keep pushing forward you know hell yeah brother so beginning to end how long was it till you were back on your board because honestly it seemed like you didn't miss a beat dude like you were right back out there as soon as possible yeah yeah i think the through the longest break of me going through all of that treatment was probably three weeks.
20:11And that was just because of surgery. After that, like when I was going through chemo, I was still going to NoHo skate park and just skating for like an hour at nighttime when there was no sun out and just like having fun, you know, wasn't too hot. So it wasn't like diminishing me and making me feel like shit. It's just giving me like a small light workout. and it just kept me mentally and physically sane, you know, to where I could just keep pumping and doing my thing, which was like a blessing in disguise, honestly. Like, yeah, it was one of the best things that ever happened to me in terms of, you know, what happened, like skateboarding.
20:48Yeah. Wow. I remember you were just getting clips.
20:52Davis Torgerson:I remember hearing the news, talking to you, and obviously you were all devastated as your homies. And then it was like, you're just filming a part again in no time. It was crazy. For all the homies, you know, looking like from a different perspective looking in, you know, especially the homies that I grew up with. I'm sure it was definitely different. Like I even had some homies that I grew up with come down and like, you know, check in on me and make sure I was good. Like Will Marshall came down for my third round of chemo. He was helping me with like my dog and just making sure everything was set.
21:23And then like my last round of chemo, I had a bunch of homies come in like Jordan Moss, Eric Valentich. they both came down and kicked it um i had like mike and paz amato um who used to be the old s &j rep he was just randomly out there on his own shit and i seen him you know so it was really cool just to have like some homies that i grew up with that were around still too to like keep me grounded and keep me like you know feeling good about everything that was going on because yeah i didn't really like my family couldn't come out here you know they can't cross the border so there were scary moments but also I just made it for what it was you know I always looked I always told myself it could be worse which it definitely could have so whatever it is what it is dude keep telling the story because you're gonna help a lot of people man with an attitude like that my father always told me there was no such word as can't you just can't put limitations on yourself just as like a as an artist or as like a skater or as just anybody you know because um Once you start putting that limitation on yourself, that's when you start to make excuses and why you can't do the things that you essentially want to do.
22:31You just get stuck and then you're like, tomorrow's coming one way or another, whether you like it or not. Choose how you want to go about it. Back to skating, dude. So we talked skate mafia. You also found a home in the shoe game and this past summer got blessed with the signature shoe and a world tour. Let's not forget the world tour, man. that's crazy how did you first get on s and how cool was it to design the shoe and get something with your name on it something you can hold at the end of this skate game like you'll always have your boards but very few people get a shoe with their name on it man super special and congrats on that as well i'm beyond lost for words every time that i try to talk about this because honestly the shoe game is a hard one to crack man like for any skater out there it's really hard to kind of get like a shoe deal and to let alone even get a colorway or even a signature shoe you know I'm very grateful and cannot thank Don Brown and everyone at SNF for the support and to give me this opportunity yeah it kind of just slowly happened pretty much January 2019 I hit them up for shoes because I was buying shoes for about a year at that time and I just really wanted to like get some S's under my feet you know was at that time starting to slowly switch my C's as well skinny jeans weren't as in anymore and i was buying my own clothes finally um so i could kind of wear what i wanted to wear yeah and uh back to the roots again yeah exactly and then ended up getting on s and flow i was just flow for about two and a half years actually before even seeing a check from them they told me right from the jump like hey we may not do anything with you you're a little old but like just keep doing your thing yeah what six years later i ended up getting a pro shoe so um fucking stoked it's so it's crazy seeing the age super high perception change
24:25Davis Torgerson:in real time for us because how old were you when they said you're a little old like i feel like everyone's pushing the age yeah limit these days which is great to see yeah no for sure i mean i think at that time i'm 34 now so it must have been i was 28 you know around that time and they were saying that but um as costan once said in an interview your best years on your board are 28 to 32 that i feel like too you know once you get to like your 28 you kind of figure out everything in the game like where you want to be and like where you're at and um i could attest to that as well you know it was like right around that time i had the epiphany of like me wanting to like feel good about like how i looked and how i did my skating that uh yeah i was like stoked that i switched it up when I did.
25:11Yeah. Dude, some people might hear that and, you know, get a little discouraged. You're a little old. We might not end up doing anything with you, dude. You crack that door open for TJ Rogers. You're going to kick the thing down, man. Like, you just went crazy since you got on this, bro. Like, the whole thing, a whole career revitalization, man. That was kind of like my goal to myself. I felt like, you know, looking back now and being where I'm at, I felt like I've had two careers, you know, like there was a time when I was on blind and, you know, I was getting Nikes and some other stuff. It was just a whole different style and like demeanor of like who I was as a person.
25:48And I think now just with the experience that I have and the knowledge and just what I've gone through, it's just been able to kind of shape me into the person that I am today that, um, I'm just grateful that I stuck with it and never gave up.
26:01Davis Torgerson:So yeah, Teej, you got the world tour going unfortunately you fucking dusted your ankle pretty bad like right at the beginning you're actually about to skate in your first glory challenge but you still fucking went on the tour had a bunch of crazy experiences you even met uh we heard you met the dog face 420 uh so tell us about the tour and yeah the whole thing oh man yeah the tour was all time honestly it was so incredible like it's unfortunate that i hurt myself halfway through the trip like in montreal at the glory challenge but honestly it was one of the best experiences that i've ever had you know like being able to travel to all these different cities across the states going even to my hometown montreal and then even with kind of having a fucked ankle like i tore two ligaments in my ankle at the street challenges and like two days later i had to go to europe and i had a cane and i was just like limping around the whole time but it was still so sick that to see how many people showed up just to like meet me and hang out some of the best moments and memories that i'll ever have and i'll cherish them forever you know like small town kansas city escapist you know like wasn't too many people because there's another event going on at that time but like the people that were there they're like kids and they're diehard fans of me and it was like just felt so cool to like you know that i was able to kind of be very more personable with them and like get to kick it on like a different level you know than if there was a huge crowd so everywhere I went I seen somebody that I knew or some OG give us one moment one like most memorable moment what was it or like a little story or snippet give us a memory it was really cool to go to Toronto and to go to Sohip and uh have like Don Brown who like present like offered me and gave me this opportunity to like see him in like my hometown element i thought that was really rad to see him to get to meet all my friends my family and to see where i grew up like we went through my hometown on the way to montreal and that was like a big highlight for me just just for don to see where i grew up and where i came from you know that's sick uh fuck bummed we missed that because it was like we went to montreal the day before so we missed it but it looked fucking epic and then tom penny when we went to europe tom penny was only supposed to be on the trip for like a day or two ended up staying the whole europe like and skated every day which was like so amazing and inspiring to see because like he's obviously a cat that i grew up looking up to and watching since i was a kid and to see like being on the road with him for that long was just like kind of a dream come true i'd never thought that would ever happen in my career so cool yeah that's surreal um did you get to chop it up with the legend dog face who is that who's dog face yeah remember the cat that with the juice yeah ocean spray oh yeah and he had the we seen him at the airport leaving la to go to kansas it was me kelly and uh luke we were all in the airport and luke actually was the one that noticed him he said yo is that dog face and like he like went oh he like went over to him and like asked him if it was him and then like he brought dog luke brought dog face over to me and kelly because we were like grabbing a drink and yeah fucking he came over and just started chopping it up with us cool guy and then um yeah he just he was about to miss his flight so he had to bounce crazy super cool oh yeah super funny man yeah like i said every day it was all time on that thing like there was never a dull moment on the whole trip.
29:41Like, so much fun. That's awesome. Very cool.
29:47Think you know Saifa? Well, now you'll get to know him a little bit better. Before Saifa says Vance, he gargles salt water for at least three minutes. He says he learned this from an opera singer he once met in Montreal, and that it gives Vance that little extra touch only he can bring. Saifa has tried to change his name twice, first to Kobe, but his mother refused to sign the papers the second time he skipped a legal process and asked his friends to start calling him mama jr insisting he wouldn't respond to anything else this resulted in none of his friends addressing him at all so after four days he gave that up saver thinks celine dion is a national treasure and therefore only refers to as the treasure if asked saver will say that his first big break in the skateboard industry was the first box ever sent to him to this day he still hasn't opened it he wants it to remain exactly as it is he keeps it in a safe space and takes it out on occasion to look at it he says it gives him the courage and motivation to carry on what he doesn't know is that it was donald who sent it to him and that it's full of old playboy magazines.
31:00Donnell had a hunch his mother was going to raid his room so he packed them up and sent them somewhere safe to retrieve later. He used tape from the local skate store which led Safer to believe it was a box full of great skatewear. In reality it's just a lot of naked ladies and great articles no one ever reads. Donnell hasn't had the heart to tell Safer the truth even though he misses those magazines daily. When drunk Safer says he has never asked for anything in life but it just keeps on giving safe at once hooked up with a girl in miami claiming he was eddie murphy's son everyone has a line and that was mine he says smiling like only he can and who brought you these facts about your favorite skate podcaster chpo branded the worldwide leader in sunglasses and watches always always doing it for the people
31:59TJ, man, you just had one of the most productive hammer filled years in the history of skating. What was the mentality going into this year? You were a man possessed on the board. Like you said, you know, not too many people ever get presented with like an opportunity to get a pro shoe, especially after like what I went through with cancer and stuff. I was always kind of a little bit more goal oriented. I just personally wanted to just have the best presentation for myself for the shoe release, you know. I wanted to try and like drop apart with like all my sponsors or at least some sort of project, you know?
32:33Yeah. I just wanted to try and push myself as much as possible. Oh yeah.
32:37Davis Torgerson:And that you did, man. That's for sure. Truly unforgettable, unforgettable year. You know how they, everyone's parts comes out one after the other. When your part came out, I was like, SOTY, SOTY. But then Zion's part came out and I was like, all right, COSOTYs, COSOTYs. Those are both the homies but i mean fuck it is what it is but so that said you fucking went crazy and of course i don't think you're the kind of person who's like i'm winning sody this year but once the momentum starts to pick up and all this shit's happening then probably all your friends are starting to talk about it like was that a distraction like how did that affect you as the year went on i think there was a lot of people saying it like throughout the whole year you know just being like oh yeah you're trying to go for sody and it was like never really like a full goal of mine to go for sody you know like my goal was again to just have like a really good release for my shoe that was like my my objective for the year i just wanted to do that and i wanted to you know a goal of mine always was to have like a thrasher interview and to have a cover one day that um i was just really stoked and fortunate that they were willing to like give me an interview that year and like support that and yeah when i seen the interview come out i kind of already knew i was like i don't think i'll get sody you know like just based on like previous facts you know typically you got to have a cover to get sody you know the only other person that's ever gotten sody that hasn't gotten a cover was chris sen back in 96 or 95 i believe wow man did his research i like that um you know it was definitely in the odd that i didn't think i was going to get it regardless but But it was so cool to see how many people like vouch for me and wanted to support me.
34:20And it just made me feel really good and know that I was appreciative for all my hard work. And I was like really hyped on that. When it came down to like the results and everything, I was definitely like, oh, fuck, you know, a little bum. But I also was like, I kind of already knew it, you know, so I didn't really beat myself up too much about it. But I do know that I was like going already through some of my own personal shit, too, at the same time. like in december like december 1st i uh had ear surgery because i had like a cyst in my ear um that was like giving me vertigo the whole time i was skating and like having like just real bad fucking lightheaded issues and like just troubles you know with like my ear and my my shit and then i also had a fucked up shoulder so i had shoulder surgery i think like the day after the results were announced for sody you know so like i was already kind of you know checked out in that world kind of checked and just like focusing on my health at that point you know really hyped for jocelyn um that fucking tray flip was insane and i mean tom fucking everybody grayson like there's so many skaters that were zion they're all so talented and they're all so good at what they do that i would hate to be in like tony's shoes and like everyone over there like you know that's It's a tough place to be, you know?

35:41Yeah. Yeah. Tough year. I'd like to be in those shoes, straighten that shit out a little bit over there. You know what I'm saying? Oh, shit. I mean, tell them how you really feel, Dono. We would, dude. You know? Dude, we would, bro. There's been some mishaps over the years. But hey, it's politics. It is what it is. And I'm not really, like, too bummed about it. But yeah, I'm definitely, like, stoked for the future and stoked to see what, you know, I can keep doing. with the last few years that I have maybe, you know, hopefully more to come as well. But you know, you got lots of, you got another SOTY pushing you like that?
36:15We'll see. You got another year like that? We'll see. I would like, I would like to think so. I mean, I'm still pretty young. I feel, you know, but at the same time, we'll see what happens. You know, I'm just stoked on the present moment of where I'm at with like my life and my career that, uh, you know, like SOTY is just, if I was to get that ever, it's just a feather in the cap you know like be a great honor and achievement and i'd be so fucking stoked but like wouldn't want to put all my energy into like hoping to get this one thing that every fucking skater wishes they could get you know because that's how a lot of people there's a lot of greats that don't get it man exactly there's a lot of people that get let down when they have that mentality too so i think thrasher loves the controversy around sody too man i think everybody talking about this shit for months everybody dropping parts to win sody they've uh built pretty much the perfect thing man yeah moral of the story is hell of a year man you actually went ballistic this last year brother thank you i'm fucking stoked and uh once i get back from my injuries hopefully i'll be uh back out of full force again and be skating this was the longest time that it's been that i haven't skated in like 16 years i think the last time that i was out for longer than like two months or like more than 40 days was uh take the cake back in 2010 and i fucked my ankle back then i couldn't skate for like nine months which one was that one was that the one by the water yeah yeah remember the one uh with like the the kicker to three block and then it started to rain and everyone played a game of skate under the fucking thing and they got like seven g's each or something yeah that event grant grant p was so hyped because he like didn't want
37:56Davis Torgerson:to skate in front of everyone like the pressure and then he just got to play a game of skate and get money he was so juiced yeah that was fucking that was funny right yeah fuck what you rolled your ankle off the kicker to big three didn't roll my ankle i got a hot pocket and then it just it impacted it so much that like i couldn't i couldn't like skate i couldn't walk i was in a boot for like nine months you know like it was just really hard to kind of get around and then ended up finally like getting scans all this shit they said nothing was wrong with it there was just like a ball of stress in my ankle whatever the fuck that is so i ended up just like going to like this nhl doctor back in the day like the sports physio girl that just like worked on the oshawa generals ohl team and uh yeah she just started working on my shins and my calves and like within three sessions i was skating again wow so damn i love those yeah love one episode you never thought that i thought there was something really wrong with it but it was just like a pinched nerve clearly um so last year you dropped another nbd on wallenberg uh which makes you probably one of very few people who have done three nbds there you've done the switch shove the switch front big and the switch front three uh take us behind the scenes on your latest the switch pop show of doom i actually went out to sf for a red bull event um it was like on twin peaks they're doing like some like kind of like little downhill contest i just ended up kind of going out there and i i was already had it in my head that i wanted to skate wallenberg that weekend and i remember like seeing cole and a bunch of homies from thrasher at a new balance premiere prior to going out there and i was like yo i want to skate this and um they were like oh hit us up let us know so we ended up going out there ended up like hitting up my homie tanner we ended up organizing it for the day after the event ended up just going there but i called cory keen who was the owner of keen ramps he actually helped build the whole event for red bull out there because i heard from thrasher that the ramp was a little janky from the last previous skaters skating it we we i ended up getting cory to come he ended up fixing the whole ramp while we were setting it up.
40:14And then I ended up just getting the switch shove probably within like 10 or 15 tries. I think I tried it. Yeah. About seven or eight broke my board and then set up a new board. And then within a couple of tries, I landed it, but yeah, it's a good time. So it was a good day. I know, um, also that day. Yeah. Right. I mean, it was a three P for me. I mean, that's my third trick done on it. The one thing that I always was really hyped on, at least after i did that it was like there's only at that time it was chris cole was only one to do three tricks on it um and then i was the second one and but i all my tricks were switch so i thought that was cool and then uh jocelyn ended up going up probably about a year later and then did the big flip what's inward heel he's done three tricks as well what's his other one he did inward heel he did ghetto bird and then he just did big flip right right right right yeah
41:09Davis Torgerson:I didn't want to like pull a Joe face and act like I knew all the facts. I only knew Chris Cole for sure. But okay. Yeah. So yeah. Three of you, man, that's, that's fucking elite company. Yeah. We're all tied for three. So what's next then? What's next, baby? Yeah. Yeah. You got one more in the chamber for sure. A hundred percent. I mean, it's just going to take me a little bit of time just to get my shoulder right. And just to kind of get back into the swing of things. but I definitely have my eye on a couple of things that I want to do out there. Allow me to make a trick request. Oh, Jesus Christ.
41:47Davis Torgerson:I've, I've made lots of requests over the years, you know, usually a ledge trick or something mellow, but allow me to drop a Wallenberg request on you. I love a TJ switch front shove. And I feel like if you did it down Wallenberg, it would be so beast. So that's, that's what I'm gonna ask you for. It's funny. I thought about that one specifically before. We'll see, man. I don't know. I just got to get there. I know that they built a new ramp since the last time I skated it as well. And I heard the ramp is way better. Yeah. Like Dylan Jabe and Toby Ryan had like a behind the scenes thing on it.
42:21And it looks fucking flawless. Is it newer than that? I think that was the, I think it might be, it might not be though, but I'm almost positive it is because they did their tricks a little bit prior to my switch shove i think oh if i'm not mistaken like there was a good ramp it was good but then they ended up re like cory when he was there to help fix my like fix the ramp for my trick he took measurements and then a couple weeks later he sent thrasher a whole new ramp where it like made was flushed to the roof and it just went in seemingly like perfect that's when frank berber ollie did you know wow so i'm excited to go back there with that ramp and try and see what's up i just got to be a hundred percent when i want to skate that you know like i don't want to be there like like i was gonna go there in november to finish up my happy friday part and i was gonna try and skate it then but like my shoulder i just dislocated it so bad three weeks prior to going out there that it was popping out in my sleep and shit and i was just having the hardest time you know just survival that uh i just yeah i could i couldn't end up doing it you know i just could not do it so yeah so you mentioned it your happy friday part you went buck wild came home for this one tell us about the feeble to board slide okay whose uh whose idea was that man how'd that come apart usually you know people think feeble to board side the media thought is this illegal but you made it work it's all bad so bad thank you i mean yeah i don't know i just somehow made it work it was uh i wasn't originally trying that at first it was me ben patterson heshi and then luke we all drove to peterborough together just to go and skate one day and the i think the day before we went to milton to like the the wave thing that i pop shoved and then the next day we ended up going out to peterborough and yeah ended up skating peterborough got a couple clips in that part as well and then on the way back we hit althabasca and when we went there i was wanting to originally just do feeble pop over the stairs there was a couple times like that my board stuck and then my board like kind of went into the grass and like my tail got super fucked up like it was just all grass so super slick and slippery it's having a hard time like locking into it and like having the control to be able to pop to the other side because i don't really skate rails you know like not at least anymore yeah i just remember trying it a bunch and not being able to pop over and i got one where i like got to the end and went into 50 on the down and popped out and almost did it and then i was like fuck just trying to get whatever i could you know and then this one time i accidentally went into board slide just on the down and then i stuck on the other flats right before coming off the rail and i got fucking pitched to the road but everyone was like dude do that that would be so fucking sick like and i'm just like dude that's so whack like i don't know i don't know if i want to do that you know you know like and everyone was like dude just do it fuck it it's sick and i was like all right whatever fuck it you know and then like i think a couple tries later i just did it and then got the third trick of the day i think it was and then i was just so hyped fucking yelled the classic eric ellington quote we went i think there was like 15 minutes left to the lcbo before i closed and i ran and grabbed a bottle s blown we still had to drive all the way back to the city so we just had a fucking great time in the car wow fucking all time bro that's a cool only you could pull that clip off bro that was so sick i don't know if i'll ever do one of those again in my career you don't have to definitely just do it once this shock value was crazy no one saw that coming yeah and i think that's also why like they were telling me to do it too because like you know you could you would probably expect me to like do a feeble maybe pop over but like to do that trick or like go through a double kink you know i don't think not too many people were expecting that so no yeah we watched that part
46:32Davis Torgerson:all together in the car remember donna i was holding it up and we all like we're like what the fuck it just kept getting better and better and then that clip went by we're all like what the fuck driving back from detroit i think okay so tige you have a lot of signature moves i'd say switch up being one of them but i think probably the trick you're most known for because you've done the biggest ones of all time switch 180 you got el toro on the resume you got the giant ass double set in vancouver on the resume that i've looked at and it's not even a skate spot to me and then i've never been to the other one you did and uh happy friday but that's got to be three of the biggest if not the three biggest switch 180s of all time question one how many tries did each take because that's a me or donald trying that once we're done for like a year and two are you retiring them or do you have another spot you want to fucking handle it yeah um so for the switch 180 like the attempts for all three of them i think the story for el toro i it was the second session that i went there the first time i went i tried it seven times landed on a four out of the seven couldn't right away and then went back second round did a second try landed on the first try slipped out and then for the vancouver one i did that fifth try um it was like a day on the thrasher tour that we were on in canada and we were just about to drive to colonna we had to be in the van at 10 a.m.
48:00So I asked the filmers to meet me at 9 a.m. And then handled that. Oh my God. Yeah. And then with the one in the Happy Friday part, which was actually an SF, that one actually has a really special story that never really got told. But I tried that actually 10 years ago, actually almost around the same time that I did the first bun interview it was june 25th 2016 i'll never forget the day because it was the day that ryan tried kickflip for the first time and he um wanted me to go out there with him to maybe skate it or just to support him and after he didn't land it phelps looked at me and was like yo get your ass up there we're not leaving here empty-handed and i was just like what a legend fuck you know yes sir the pressure's on yeah yeah i was like okay so uh fucking i ended up just like warming up trying it didn't end up doing it but like landed on it a bunch slipped out baker maker he's telling get up there and do it better and then um i didn't end up going back you know i just for whatever reason didn't really go to sf after that trip for a few years um i think ended up for this shoe part you know that was like one of the goals that i wanted to do was to do that switch 180 so i made a point to just go out there for a weekend to just go meet up with everyone um i hit up tanner roe who's like a good homie of mine that lives out in sf and films he was the one that helped me organize it i was trying to meet up with danzy to shoot a photo but unfortunately he was busy he couldn't make it out he was supposed to but couldn't last minute so i hit someone else up tom and then he shot the photo and that trick was uh third try that time around wow yeah shut up phelps man which one's the biggest do you think i what was the hardest one i think personally it was i would like to think uh the sf one just because not only like the physical but mental battle that i had you know trying it nine years later and then almost 10 years later sorry and then on top of it like going through cancer and all that shit that just meant a lot to me like i remember landing it and i couldn't i hysterically cried for probably about like 20 minutes just like i couldn't control myself because i was just so proud and so hyped that i did that especially after like all of like the history and the odds that i like you know had at that time with that spot so it meant a tremendous amount to me to land that that i was
50:38Davis Torgerson:like fucking hyped that's awesome man shit it's fucking epic um the last question was do you plan on retiring it and for this i would say dude don't retire it man keep it fucking going dude keep that shit going man we want to see you more sometimes i mean the person who does the trick is like oh i'm tired of doing my same old tricks over and over but the people watching that's what we want to see we want to see a tj switch 180 yeah thank you i mean we'll see well definitely i don't have any on my radar at the moment but who knows something might just pop in my head and might want to go and do it but not in any rush that's fair yeah gotta wait for the right one you know for sure epic epic uh experience you had throwing out the first pitch for the padres tell us about that experience man yeah fucking mafia dog come on dude san diego ties run deep dude literally yeah I actually just did a video shoot with Mafia and the Padres for their opening season for this year coming.
51:47But yeah, Mafia is like sponsored by the Padres. And yeah, they just wanted to, you know, extend the invite to let me throw the first pitch, the ceremonial pitch of a game just for getting on Skate Mafia. And I was fucking super stoked and super down. I've always wanted to do that for the Blue Jays. But like, you know, I'm down with it. It's fucking hard here in Toronto, man. They get too many celebrities and all that shit here. We don't get to do the cool shit with the sports teams here, man. Fingers crossed. Maybe one day, you know, whoever's watching this, maybe they can, you know, pull those strings for us.
52:19Yeah, do what's right, man. Get TJ on the mound.
52:22Davis Torgerson:Come on. But TJ, if you get another attempt, are you going to throw a more, you know, direct ball? I saw the clip. My guy threw a fucking rainbow that came up short, bro. What are you saying? All right. So you want me to let me tell you the story. Like that was literally two weeks after I got on mafia. So that was at the end of March. That was literally right at the beginning of the season. But then on top of it, what it was, was I just got over my wrist surgery where I got a plate in my wrist and like I fucked up my shoulder and my elbow. And I think it was 23 December. So I was just getting off like like wrist surgery.
53:03And this is my throwing hand. so like when i threw that like that took all of my fucking power to get that far you know without like popping anything out of place and uh yeah if i could get a redemption i'll try and definitely throw it a little further but yo come on though it wasn't even that bad it was smooth at least it wasn't like 50 cent where i fucking threw it all the way to the first base you know like yo i love the ones that are fucked up yo like it just tapped right before just a little bit and it bounced right into his glove they were heights you know it could have been way worse it could have been worse that's funny that you called that though yeah that's so funny i didn't
53:38Davis Torgerson:know the surgery stuff that obviously explains it but that's fucking hilarious but i have heard it's so much more intimidating yeah you get one shot dude well they let you practice in the outfield for like 10 or 15 minutes and like they kind of they're closer at first and they're like throw you know all right now do this one and try not to throw any further you know and like at that time like i said like this was so fucked up so like when i threw it once she was like this is perfect don't throw any harder than that i was like okay so i just like when i went to go do it i was like all right this is the exact throw and i just threw it the exact i was like oh one of these just missed it damn fuck um so you filmed an epic documentary uh crossing canada with red bull and brought a few homies along the way.
54:29Davis Torgerson:How fun slash hectic was that trip? We heard Mitch at one point gave you a super hug and the switchback lips guide them were a couple of highlights. So yeah, give us those two stories right there. Yeah, no, for sure. I mean, that Red Bull trip that I did back in 2021, you know, I've always wanted to do a cross-country trip like that in Canada. So it was so cool to do that. And yeah, it was just 30 days of pure skating. i don't think we had a day off yeah we just drove across ended up doing four episodes along with like a full video park that came out yeah it was super cool we just were able to tell different stories of other individuals and skaters across the country um and it was like really rad that we got to like be as diverse as we were and then to answer the question in terms of some of the funnier shit that happened with like mitch and stuff um he came on like halfway through the trip he uh and we i'll never forget we went to banff and we ended up having a few drinks one night and he was just so happy to see me that he bear hugged me and he fucking popped my rib out and like at first i was so drunk that i didn't know that like he popped my rib out i thought it was his because i just heard like you know we both just got each other and we're like yo was that you or was that me you know and then like the next morning i was like oh fuck like i'm fucked you know and i'll i still had like a full episode to film for that whole series that i had to kind of muster through the pain and keep pushing i will say mitch mitch did say to say sorry so just so you know yeah it's okay he knows it's okay water under the bridge i definitely want to cover the um switchback lip skydome which i think was the very end of the trip if i'm not mistaken i think we might have talked about this but i remember talking to you i think on facebook messenger or msn or something a million years before that and you told me you wanted to switch back lip skydome like probably 10 years before that and i just remember being like in my head not i was like i don't know if you got that one but then you switch back lift ring con and i was like okay you're insane you could probably switch back lip it but then all these years go by and then yeah tell the story of that morning because that was one of the craziest things i've seen in person yeah fuck just finished the trip the steady pushing tour and uh we were in toronto it's about to go back to cali and i was working on my switchback lips um the whole tour you know and they were feeling pretty good at that that time that i was like really wanting to just go and do it at skydome and i remember hitting you up specifically and mitch and like some other homies damn at you drove down to shoot the photo and um yeah fuck you remember the story but i could tell it to everyone else but uh yeah we met at cbc just across the street again my rib was fucked so i you know took a couple shots of tequila out of the bottle started getting some revs going was you know loosen loosen up my body and then uh ended up just you know what did i i ollie this set switch all he did then i tried front board once and then i just went straight for switchback lip and then um i did a fourth try i remember after landing it i ended up just spontaneously renting a car and then going to niagara falls for the night to party yeah fun times my my memory of it was meet at cbc you're hitting the tequila you're skating around i think you started doing one-handed push-ups at one moment like just getting juiced and then we go across the street yeah the one front board attempt and you switch ollie like to the bottom of the rail like just tapped it and then you slid it and then you slid to the bottom then you landed it like it just happened so fast and then your headphones popped off you came back and you're like put your headphones on my head like yo check out what i was listening to i'm like bro you you're so insane right now like and then yeah um next time someone asked me craziest trick i've ever witnessed i gotta remember that's a good one especially because you claimed it to me like 10 years before yeah yeah no that was that was a fun day man like i obviously forgot about the one hand push-ups but yeah that was a thing back in the day for me i love doing those ever since i fucked up my wrist and my shoulder i haven't been able to do them as often but now having this surgery hopefully i'll get back on my program you know no tequila though no tequila no tequila it worked that day but yeah dude tell us the car crash story man to wrap it up the wrap up the tour stories man that story was hilarious we actually just went to montreal and funny enough we just just got back into the car i think damn at you locked the keys in the van twice within like 48 hours and then we were just like going to pick up will marshall and some homies like at park laugh i believe at the time and we like pulled over to the side like beside the hospital and as we were waiting um there's just a car that like came out of nowhere and just hit us from behind and i remember being like what the fuck like who just hit us we're just parked on the side you know like and then i like get out of the car and i'm like yo what the fuck and uh it's this dude in the car and he's shot in the fucking chest fucking just shot in the chest and he's bleeding out and he's like passed out in the car and i'm just like holy fuck so i ended up like just yelling at like whoever like yo get help fucking ambulance like not ambulance but all these paramedics come and like bring a stretcher and then like help him get out but then dan had to sit there for a minute and like do a police report and shit like it's pretty hectic you know like that sounds insane um quick follow-up on the guy who got shot did you guys find out if he was okay or what happened with him after yeah i think dan ended up doing some research about the situation and he ended up being okay but um yeah i think i don't i forget if it was like part of like some gang affiliate shit but like it was definitely something to do with something and yeah it was pretty wild i just remember like tripping out on the fact that like this guy just hit us from behind in his car and then he's just bleeding out of his stomach in the front seat so i'm just like what the fuck you know you don't really see that in canada like you could see that in miami la like wherever else in the states you know but in canada that's pretty rare to see yeah gunshot victim is not as common okay wait i have a text from from dan shout out dan um i asked him if he survived he said someone posted a clip of it on their ig and we got a message from saying or from someone saying this happened in front of my house guy went to jail but survived so they saved him but he went to the bin after yeah so who knows what he was into but gnarly fuck crazy so teach man it's wild out there in those streets man almost 10 years later thank you so much for fucking pulling up to the pod that said what's next for tj rogers man oh what's next is uh just a whole bunch of skating i don't know man i'm just uh i just moved to canada recently i got engaged to my uh fiance um we're actually having a kid in july so let's go um you know about to end our fatherhood this year which i'm really excited about and um yeah like what's next on my board it's gonna be a bunch of stuff i know we got a collab coming out with skate mafia and s this year near the end of the year red bull has a full-length video coming out at the end of the year um i'm still gonna be keeping myself busy so i'm just looking forward to what's to come you know just gonna wait a couple more weeks hopefully a month maybe until my shoulders like 100 and then i'll just be back on the board like I never left, you know?
1:02:37Papa Teej, coming soon, Deggie. Come on. Come on. Congrats on everything. Well deserved. Thank you.
1:02:53Davis Torgerson:Yo, yo, yo. It's Rapid Fire with the Ghost. And this week, we're brought to you by the one and only Spitfire Wheels. And they've got new pro wheels from two Bunds alumni. Fabiana Delfino and Zion Wright. That's right, Fabi's got her pro conical fulls taking a firestorm revenge on some space invaders, while Zion keeps his on the classic shape straight out of Jupiter. Don't wait to hit your local run for the newest drop and all the classic Spitfire 93, 97, 99, and 101 Duros you need. Exodus, Home, Home, Brotherhood, Theory, Kingswell, LB Skate, Delhi, 35th Ave, all got them. Make it pop. It's Spitfire, baby.
1:03:42Davis Torgerson:Tiege, you know what time it is. A little rapid fire with your boy, bruv. You ready to make it pop? Nine and a half years later? Yeah, done though, still. Wow, okay. He's ready. Come on. He's ready. favorite skater favorite skater Mark Capliar favorite video one video that stood out the most to me growing up was Circa Kibosh all the Canadians oh the Canadians good one that was one of my favorite videos I watched that recently Circa Canada was a fucking well oiled machine for a minute Favorite video part? Ryan Desenzo Double Down. That was a fucking epic one and I was around for a lot of that part too.
1:04:33That was a really sick one to be. Yeah, that one was epic. Favorite style? The Emu kid that was on S who's on New Balance. I like his steez. So effortless and just reminds me of the good old days. Which skater had the biggest influence on the way you skate? It's a combination of like a bunch of Canadians, you know, over the years. But I'd like to say top three of that would be Wade Dizarmo, Spencer Hamilton, and Grant Patterson. Local legends. Most talented skateboarder on planet Earth? Toss-up between PJ Ladd and Bobby DeKaiser. Bobby, you know, they're both just tech magicians. I mean, PJs has a lot more years on the board, but yeah, they're both some of my faves to watch.
1:05:20Love that. Favorite trick? Nollie flip. Hardest trick for you? Fakie big heels. Rick flip? Yeah. I just never been able to do that one good. Tough one. Most illegal trick? Pressure flips with no hesitation. I think I said that 10 years ago too. Favorite clip you've ever gotten? Toss up. There's so many. That means so much to me. But one of the most recent was the Switch 180 down in SF. What's the worst trend you've been a part of?
1:05:54Davis Torgerson:Skinny jeans. You were saying you were hyped. You switched your stee up again. I am too. I am too. I feel like all our jeans were skinnier. What the fuck? No, but Tiege, bro. Bro, your craziest era, Teej, was when it was like skinny pants, long ass hair, and like fucking tie-dye shirts. Crazy ass grip tape and shit. Bro, the skinnies were sick for a bit. The skinnies were dope, man. Don't worry. That shit was epic. Yeah, in the moment. But when you look back at your old clips, you're like, are you crazy? I wore pants that tight. It doesn't even make sense. Combination of both. But if I had to go back to Rock-A-Wear or Skinny's, I think I would go back to Skinny's.
1:06:45I don't know. True religion. I was in 38 Rock-A-Wears and 5XL tees. Dude, so sick. I would have to go back to Skinny's, bro. Nah, fuck no. I would do it, bro. I'd go back to the Truys. Get me the 4XL. I'm going to do it, bro. Get the 4XL Captain Crunk tees. Remember those back in the day? you get them at the grocery store or at like the corner store my arse shit it was in the tall tier was so busted she was awesome it's just timeless you know skinny just a timeless era
1:07:18Davis Torgerson:where you guys are saying completely opposite things i love it well it's like yo you gotta think about it like straight up early 2000s like when you think of early 2000s you think of big baggy clothes you know like you don't really think of anything else at least in my own perspective you know but for sure fucking killing me um what's the gnarliest trick you've ever witnessed gnarliest trick i ever witnessed was probably on that indie tour in canada last year where jonka did that gap lip slide for the cover yeah that was insane and i think that was like the third cover ever in canada so it was like super cool to be a yeah so it was like super cool to um be there and just like witness that firsthand you know he's fucking mad man okay so bonus question i'm guessing i'm feeling like i can picture it was sasha's kickflip a cover oh no that wasn't in canada but that was in the same so yeah yeah that was i was thinking of that one in winnipeg that he did but that wasn't the cover it was the other one so what what are the other two covers then do you do you know i know uh it was moses that had a cover i believe it might have been a front nose as well and then the other cover i could be wrong but i'd have to double check but i think it was a mccrank cover i could be wrong i could be wrong but there was two covers before that one.
1:08:53There's only two at Canadian spots, and I think they're all in Vancouver. I don't think they're in Toronto or anywhere else. Sick. Hopefully we can get that information.
1:09:02Davis Torgerson:Please DM us if you know the answer. Okay. What's the one trick that got away? The nollie flip over the UCSD hubba that I broke my wrist and fucked my shoulder up a couple years ago. Never ended up going back for it. Which spot is that? It's the one that Penny back in the day, Tom Penny frontside flipped over. Dylan Jabe front-heeled it. Yeah, exactly. You switched back 180'd it. That one? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That one. That was the one I got away. What's the biggest bunt you've ever witnessed? The biggest bunt that I think I've seen was Mitch driving all the way down to, or flying all the way to Cali, and then we drove all the way to sf to skate this one ledge he fixed it up 50ed it and then tried it a couple times got smoked and then we just drove all the way back to canada he was over it but i also don't blame him i also don't blame him because yo he got worked on it you know like but that's like i don't know i can't think of another bunt i love you mitch and uh that was just the most recent one that I can think of off the top of my head.
1:10:16I love you, dog. That's diabolical.
1:10:18Davis Torgerson:I just gotta say, I love that Mitch tried to tell you to say that I was the biggest bunt, but you hit him back. Yo, Mitch, that's what's up, Mitch. Don't fuck you.
1:10:30What's the last new trick you learned? Switch backside flip front crook. That was like in my S part. I think I learned that like on the spot. I wanted to do that trick for a while. Just never found the spot to do it. ended up doing it there oh yeah choice trick um dream job after skating just still being a part of skateboarding in some which way or form you know um i've put so much time and energy into this whether that's like being a team manager or you know consulting and working with brands or just helping other people um it would be so cool so i don't know i'm excited to kind of see what could happen in the future with that as well though because yeah you never know when that time could come favorite local brand bunt i would like to say dime jenny like all those local brands from canada i'm a big fan of i love supporting my friends too so yeah it's fucking amazing to see what you guys have done for yourselves so i got to give you guys some major shout out and some love too you know thank you brother thank you much appreciated uh favorite local skater i would like to say currently like my favorite skater that's coming up in the toronto area is uh it's a toss up between dwayne or uh bailey right now big fan of both of those guys um and i can't wait to see i can't wait to see what happens eric penton as well um i can't wait to see what comes up with those cats.
1:12:01Kenny Wynn. There's a lot of kids from Canada that are killing it right now.
1:12:05Davis Torgerson:That's a good selection right there. Look them all up if you're listening. What's the one sponsor you regret riding for? Fuck. Jammie Pack. It's like this Bluetooth speaker company that like, yeah, gave me like, I forget, what, 300 bucks a month plus royalties on like my signature product that I had I had like a fanny pack with a speaker a backpack with a speaker and a duffel bag with a speaker that's fire dude I mean thanks for the free money but like yeah was what it was sure there were cool cats though Alex Alex the the guy that owned the company like they were all really cool but definitely really didn't fit my image but at that time in the in the game I I wasn't really like concerned about that.
1:12:56I just was stoked on the brands and I loved panty packs were in. And at that time and having a speaker with it, like what the fuck? Like I'm money. Fire. So yeah. But like looking back, I'm like, fuck yeah. I didn't need to have that.
1:13:14Davis Torgerson:Favorite teammate ever. Wes Kramer. Let's go. Go. Legend. Worst teammate ever. Fuck. I'm going to just throw Mitch B under the bus just because he snores. Don't do that shit. He's the best teammate. I've never been on no team. But just traveling for the bunt video, he is the ultimate motivator. He's a step above everyone else. He's the ultimate motivator. He's the one guy I would always want on the trip. I don't have anyone else to say. I don't know fucking who to say. But I'm not picking on him, that's for sure. I'm just because I love him. And I was just hanging out with him yesterday. I just instantly thought of his name.
1:13:52celebrating mitch man pretty much i don't talk i don't talk negative i don't talk negative about yeah i just feel bad though i don't want to throw mitch under the bus because i do love him so much and i don't want him to think that i'm picking on him you know
1:14:07Davis Torgerson:mitch is fine bro popped your rib out of love man no i know what a legend um worst company Circa shoes Oh Oh Boom They had a moment dude They did but They did me dirty at the end That's fair dude Crazy I don't think we've ever heard that 10 years ago I think I said that Worst trend Skinny jeans I'm going to see you in skinnies At some point And no chance Teaches and skinnies You never say never Because this fashion shit is so full circle That nothing is out of the question Yeah I think now that I've found My roots back again I'm stuck in my ways You can't teach an old dog new tricks I'm stuck in my ways We'll see bro It's another 10 year reunion That's what I'm saying dude 10 years is a long time Who knows where we'll be.
1:15:19Worst style. Worst style, fuck, maybe Beaver Fleming. What the fuck is that, dude? Do your research, dog. No, you're just trying to pick some obscure-ass motherfuckers. Yeah, no, I've been around, dog.
1:15:35Davis Torgerson:Damn. Okay, well, Teej, we're at the finish line here. Who's the last person you want on the sesh? Last person you want on the sesh? Probably fucking Dane Berman. I'm not touching it. I'll stay tight-lipped, bro. I'm done. I'm done. Thank you. And much love. TJ, bro. Thank you for coming through. You absolute savage. I love you guys. See you in 10 years. Yeah. I'll catch you guys on the flip.
1:16:16Welcome back to Random Skater of the Week, the fastest growing segment on YouTube, hosted by our good friend Davis Torgerson and brought to you by Mob Grip, the number one choice of professional skateboarders worldwide. And the reason is simple. It's the grippiest. This week, good friend of the pod, Josh Kale is back in the building. What's going on, man? What's up, fellas? How are y 'all? Hey, Josh, do you skate mob?
1:16:42Davis Torgerson:I got to know. Yeah, I do. oh there we go he's happy another one yeah i like mom i feel like we ask that question to every
1:16:52The Bunt:single person and have no idea and everyone goes yeah i skate mob yeah i think it's everybody yeah it's good man yeah it's good uh not as good as uh josh not remembering that any trip that we've done together in the past dude no no i remember i just needed the um which which trip He just needed someone to remember for him. Yo, there's so many y 'all that get on a team, you're off the team, you're on the team, you're off the team. I'm scared for DC for six years, dude. Just a blip in the pan for him, dude. I know. Fair enough. You're not on no more? You're on for 40, dude. Hell no. I thought you'd been on this whole time.
1:17:35The Bunt:I wonder why I didn't see you on those trips. Who else is off? I'm just kidding. wait is carol off too carol is is carol still on oh my carol yeah hell yeah he's still on shit fuck yeah dude he might that'd be dope um for anyone that's new to this i'm gonna just be listing off a bunch of clues to one random skater everyone gets three guesses to try to guess the skater they can blurt it out anytime um how would you rate yourself as a skate nerd josh um i probably i'm probably pretty close to 10 like low-key actually you know what though i i think up to a certain year so once social media is as crazy it is right now then i'm not quite the skate nerd because there's it's just there's just so much shit everywhere that now i feel like we don't really go in that far though anyways like who did trey flip nollie flip crook big flip back till down hollywood 16 probably like 10 people nowadays you know what i mean let's see
1:18:43Davis Torgerson:what you're saying hey when you brought hel eclipse to the fucking table it started to get
1:18:47The Bunt:out of control man yeah you started it dude this is all your fault too hard to keep up i know i know it's my fault sorry about that sorry about that but i but i gave it up i'm out i quit i I knew it was for all the wrong reasons and I just, I walked away from it. Is that still going? Is that still going? Yeah. No, I can't. It's not still going, right? Not the, not the website, but I think, um, the name might be coming back on some other shit from what I've heard. I don't, I don't know exactly what it's coming back as, but it might be coming back as something. Good name. Do you still use Hella in like your vocabulary to this day?
1:19:26The Bunt:Sometimes I'm like a confused guy, man. I'll use Hella. I use Matt. I use all that shit. East coast, West coast, Southern. I end up, I'm like a smorgasbord of all those. Cause you spend a good amount of time in the Bay and that's, that's where hell is thriving. Yeah. I feel like if you, if you spend enough time there, you come back saying hello. I mean, it just makes sense. It's like a lot of, you know what I mean? It's a lot like hello. It's, it's a good word. What's happening? I'm just kidding. Let's get this shit. I've never heard this show on the road. Um, okay. I'm going to start. You guys ready?
1:20:04The Bunt:I guess. There we go. Yes, sir. Hella ready. Uh, going to start it off the usual where previous teammates of this skater include Rodney Mullen, Lance Mountain, and Jason Dill. Fuck, this is some K-list shit, man. so josh since you haven't you haven't seen this before this means previous teammates are skaters at one time that this person shared a sponsor with um and i i stick to shoes and board brands should um you kind of threw me off with the jason till thing that um that's the goal um okay so you guys can uh till mullen and on that for a bit till wait i gotta well oh i'm not team a teammate of them when they're all on something at the same time not at the same time so any point it doesn't have to be all at the same time it's just at any point shared a sponsor with this shared a board or a shoe sponsor with this person who's it rodney dylan who's the other one lance lance okay okay i've got no idea i'll say josh i got like 20 clues so we're we're we're still in the vagueness of it but um but guesses are encouraged that's pretty vague bro yeah good good like like like some uh some skateboarder who shared the same sponsor as those guys yeah it's more so fun when you figure out who the skater is and then you can go back and be like oh what was the sponsor excuse me see yeah i was looking at it backwards i was thinking of what the sponsor was well it's multi it could be multiple um okay moving on this skater has a guest board with crooked everybody's had a guest board with crooked yeah we're finding that out week by week yeah did you i'm still relevant
1:22:21The Bunt:are you teasing to uh winter crooked catalog yo i'm gonna say fred gall it is not fred gall oh wow early guess i thought he was just doing that all right josh has two left i don't want this one to go long and if you get three Wait, we get two per one? No, no, no. Three in total. You just get three for the entire game. Yeah. Oh, shit. Okay. Let's try to get out of here real quick. Just hang up. Three guesses hang up. Don't even stick around for the winner. That would actually be so legendary. Also, it's just one name for the whole entire show. That's it. We got three guesses. We're just doing one person.
1:23:09The Bunt:Oh, wow. But you have two guesses left. Alright, so it's not for a goal. We got two guesses left, though. You're still chilling. I appreciate you just throwing a guess out, because sometimes these clowns won't even guess. I don't need that validation, but I appreciate it. Was it close? It's too early to answer that. It's too early to answer that. Okay, moving on. This skater has broken their arm five times. Damn. Mentioned in an interview, arm broken five times.
1:23:44The Bunt:arm like wrist according to this skater arm so you know i don't know if it's scaphoid ulna radii i don't know i think i think i know who it is oh yeah y 'all ready to shut the shop
1:24:01Davis Torgerson:down right now already dude one more clue one more clue come on well give us a chance one more clue. There's only one
1:24:10The Bunt:skater in all of skateboarding that has had a wrist guard on for like 25 years. Guy, but just shit. No, not guy. Okay, I'm going to give one more clue and then you can decide if you still want to guess that person, right? Shit, who had a wrist guard? That's a good clue. That's what I was trying to say. At one point, this skater in a five year span had four thrasher covers. Alright, that's not the guy I was thinking of. That's okay. I was like hooking you up for a little bit. Dude. I was thinking of the dude that has like the sickest push in all of the skate, but I guess not. Yeah. I think I know what you're talking about and we already did him.
1:24:59The Bunt:Yeah. Saved us there. Five covers. Would you say how many thrasher covers and five covers in four years other way around four covers in five years which is still pretty fucking impressive yeah he must ride he must yeah them companies he wrote for must have some money that's some bread damn politics no well damn i almost just blurted out something we already did let's keep going should we oh see i don't even know who y 'all already did or didn't neither do i can barely remember nah i think you're i think a freer brain is better um yeah you guys want another one what year what year were the what year did he have all those covers good question you know it's a great question and i don't i'm not going to give that information out quite yet because we're still early in this we're still early in this but i will say to get sponsored by this skater's local shop this skater needed to show their report card to the skate shop.
1:26:06The Bunt:What the fuck? Next. I know but it's sometimes I just like to throw in like a did you know? But it doesn't help anyone. It must be Canadian. Totally. What the fuck? uh oh you you guys are so wholesome um okay in the intro to this skater's 2009 video part it's just them sitting in front of their house with their dog the fuck
1:26:47that's too basic man that doesn't stand out with rodney mullen jason bill and lance mountain
1:26:55The Bunt:Remember anyone kicking it in front of the house with a dog? Maybe like three people listening do. What kind of dog? It was like a bulldog.
1:27:11The Bunt:Or some variety. I don't know the exact American Kennel Club breed. Sounds like a legend, man. Some sort of bulldog, I'd say. And the teammates. Yeah, let's go. One more. One more? well sorry josh but in this skater's rapid fire with the ghost on the podcast this skater lists their favorite style as keenan milton fuck i feel like i remember the report card i know who the fuck is oh shit uh we're seven clues in how many clues did we get fuck I got like I have like 20 listed down I can and then I can start going rogue yeah you're kicking it for a little bit report card I mean these guys probably already know nah they don't remember they've done so many fucking interviews they don't remember this shit
1:28:14The Bunt:did we do the interview what was the interview not saying this skater plays a character called chewy in the 2016 horror movie the bad batch what the fuck isn't that star wars shit and now that's a good that was a good thing the bad batch in star wars i like that that series yeah right the clones the rogue the rogue clones yeah the fuck man
1:28:50Davis Torgerson:this is gonna piss me off because we have you on the show i should know this yeah he's doing he's giving us clues from our own show for fuck's sakes
1:29:02The Bunt:um in a shoe commercial this skater is being chased by a mob of rabid fans we didn't interview him i almost yelled it out too we didn't even interview him
1:29:16Davis Torgerson:that's not deer dick everybody's thinking because everybody everybody i mean because
1:29:20The Bunt:everybody knows it but he never had a dog dude did i get everyone immediately thinking of deer dick though yeah 100 yeah Yeah. One of the best.
1:29:34Davis Torgerson:Who the fuck was the other one? Ads ever.
1:29:39Okay.
1:29:40The Bunt:Yeah. No crooked pro board. No covers of Thrasher. No. It's not that. Not skating in a wrist guard all the fucking time. Okay. This skater has one Tampa Pro.
1:29:59The Bunt:Fuck. I hate this game.
1:30:05Davis Torgerson:I'm so sorry we make you do it every week I'm getting it on the next clue, man I can feel it
1:30:11The Bunt:Yeah, right Is this skater still in the game today? Yeah, yeah Still in the game today I'll say that I'll give you that
1:30:29The Bunt:But we're all still in the game, baby
1:30:35The Bunt:in 2014 this person skated to Juicy J oh shit Wes Kramer it is not Krusty K what about but he would skate to Juicy J what about Caswell Berry not Caswell
1:31:04Davis Torgerson:shit oh safe laughing make a guess dude i have nothing i i'm not scared to throw them out but i have to have some percentage of confidence we're starting to get we're starting to get a
1:31:17The Bunt:little bit more um josh you only have one i wouldn't say obvious but just yeah josh has one left and then he's fucking out of here moral support later
1:31:31The Bunt:um there's no buy-ins rebuys yeah
1:31:38The Bunt:josh sounds like we need to play some uh some online poker okay who we got what we got let's go let's go let's go again in a commercial for this skater's pro shoe the skater's shoes are driving around an old thunderbird
1:31:58The Bunt:See Josh gave you a little car clue in there too What the fuck dude
1:32:09The Bunt:The shoes are driving around in an old Thunderbird The shoes are driving the Thunderbird
1:32:20Yeah Kind of sick keep going
1:32:27The Bunt:um this skater shared a part with not with not Kel Smith Kevin Bradley and Tyshawn Jones what the fuck oh shit I have a fucking idea but I don't know if I'm gonna give up my last one what the fuck
1:32:56The Bunt:What if you say his initials but you don't say his name? Is it Ave? It is not Ave. Oh shit. What the fuck? Damn. So Dono and Josh have one guess left and Say hasn't even just like tried. This is what he does every time. I guess with like at least 10%.
1:33:21Davis Torgerson:10 % nobody has an idea yeah
1:33:25The Bunt:you should you should guess KB you should have to make two guesses right now
1:33:31Davis Torgerson:no but KB was already in that part KB who's the other people
1:33:37The Bunt:not Kellen Tyshawn so it was a part with four skaters that was three of them Mark Gonzalez okay nope we already did him too but i appreciate you taking a guess i just did that just to fucking good guess appease you haters just to burn a guess mark gonzalez had a guest board on crooked and had four slasher covers in five years you guys told me to guess i had no idea well we didn't think it would be that moronic yo that's the only other person you can think of on supreme oh man okay gonzalez skated the juicy jay fuck that would be tough i only got one more fucking thing okay in a 2009 video this skater in a montage with a bunch of other skaters on the team skates a diy a bunch of DIY obstacles in an abandoned factory that has no roof and the 2009 video is very much centralized upon this session the fuck man a warehouse with no roof what the fuck kind of clue is this it's gonna start getting with the next one a bit more obvious to the point a bit more to the point okay ready this skater had an online video part titled honor roll
1:35:19The Bunt:dude this is so fucked wait honor roll yeah or honor roll honor with an h that's a great question honor roll yeah like uh academic we're tying it back to the report card Hmm. And then one Tampa Pro. Damn, I got another idea. I got another idea. Oh, do I want to give it up? One Tampa Pro. You know what, Josh? You asked about the Thrasher covers in what years? Yeah. It was from the span of 2017 to 2022. Oh. I just got to put the Rodney Mullen, the Lance Mountain, and Jason Dodds. Don't worry about this. Man, I think I know who it might be. I'm gonna give you one more right now this skater skated for both vitamin water and rockstar it's not damn not at the same time but has skated for both of those beverage companies almost just blurted another one that we've already done that's too fucking crazy dude this is some fucking sick old work you've done here davis really thanks dude
1:36:45um okay you want some more yeah i take it as yes
1:36:52The Bunt:this skater in a 2009 video part big spin heel flipped over jeff rowley
1:37:02The Bunt:see i don't pay attention to big spin heel flips only switch over jeff rally
1:37:08Davis Torgerson:what do you mean dude you're fucking comedy all right yo i only got one more guess hey
1:37:17The Bunt:i only got one more minute what did y 'all say because i lost you yeah you're you're fucked um no they said you're fucking comedy
1:37:27Davis Torgerson:I don't pay attention to big spin You heard my big spin?
1:37:31The Bunt:Yeah, we heard that I mean, what? You can't tell me that a big spin heel flip isn't ugly, but a switch big spin heel flip looks good How the fuck would this guy have shared a board? It's all dependent on who does it and how they do it Alright, because the regular big spin heel flip, you're all ahead of your board and then the switch when you're all, the board's in front of you, it's just better i think my opinion sometimes there's a couple people who can run it regardless i'm not going to start saying if this person did it good or not they did do a big spin heel flip over rowley what the fuck um okay hold on
1:38:15The Bunt:i'm gonna keep going here yeah i'm actually starting to create clues it's crazy bro The big skater is currently Was it a regular big spin heel? This skater is currently 31 years old Oh, 31? Regular big spin heel What the fuck? Currently 31 years old
1:38:34The Bunt:It's pretty young What the fuck?
1:38:43Davis Torgerson:I was thinking pure OGs, man Yeah, I changed my mind I love this game
1:38:53bro that just broke my brain right there um this skater is from hawthorne california
1:39:05The Bunt:i don't really help what the fuck 31 well yeah because none of y 'all from california
1:39:16The Bunt:so this skater was like 20 or something when he got all them covered or 17 to 21. Yeah. Pretty young. When this skater big spin heel flipped over Jeff Rowley, they were like ridiculously young. That was 2009. Oh my God. Fucking hate.
1:39:43The Bunt:This skater's dad used to travel on all of this skater's skate trips when they were younger.
1:39:53what the fuck
1:39:54The Bunt:yo what the hell is this shit what the hell
1:39:58Davis Torgerson:this is so fucked right now
1:40:01The Bunt:I'm gonna start rhyming this skater's name dude his dad hold on a second what you googling over there I see you over there looking at some computer what are you looking at if you ever watch the show you would go do we have a google gate going on right now is it louis lopez his dad
1:40:28The Bunt:it is louis lopez louis lopez what's up it took so long you get
1:40:41The Bunt:what'd they share a part in an fa video oh shit uh godspeed by davante jolly
1:40:48Davis Torgerson:wow you can't even celebrate that dude if i didn't get that that's not even a celebration worthy i mean wow it's a tragedy yes part of part of the process is
1:41:00The Bunt:part of the process is trying to make the vaguest clues possible to where little people know what's going on dog you throw in a front side big spin heel flip rock star why was he with jeff rally oh flip it was in extremely sorry the flip video fuck honor rolls and dads and report cards and dude hawthorne now makes sense doesn't he have like a fucking day in hawthorne or something everyone in the comments be honest did you get
1:41:33Davis Torgerson:that what point did you get that because sometimes people say i got it in two clues bro the teammates threw me off until you said 31 i thought i was thinking about like a 40 year old
1:41:43The Bunt:skater minimum so so jason dill fa lance mountain flip rodney mullen globe he did skate for globe
1:41:51Davis Torgerson:before converse wow i almost yelled out alex also all these people skater too dude he has a crooked guest board come on oh shit okay listen the building he don't pay attention to big heels man that was so good that was quote of the year so far man yeah that's pretty
1:42:14The Bunt:good that's pretty good um well you all came you all saw pause safe honestly didn't even conquer what yo he just he just holds out he just holds out until it's like i guess twice you guys guess
1:42:31Davis Torgerson:twice too. What do you mean, yo? We all guessed twice, yo. What the fuck? Don't be mad at me.
1:42:36The Bunt:Man, it's 30 minutes. Like, I guessed twice in the first, like, five minutes. This shit went way too long. Say, we designed this game so you'd be winning this shit fast, dude. We're fucking killing time. I'm playing checkers over here. It's comeback season. Y 'all playing chess. You're not playing anything, dude.
1:42:52Davis Torgerson:You didn't get it right. We'll see you next week, brother. I can't wait. Come check y 'all at the fucking car shoot.
1:43:00The Bunt:I ain't coming by y 'all and let me win y 'all do your own thing Josh that was for not remembering all the trips that we went on together you guys treat me bad man what I think I went over to your house in San Diego one time I've been to that house yeah I've been to that house that's cool like one time for like five minutes maybe
1:43:26Davis Torgerson:you were there On that high note, let's wrap it up, man. Yeah, all right. On that fun, see y 'all. You've got mail. Welcome back to the post office. Brought to you by our good friends over at Dickie's Skateboarding. Quality workwear since 1922. From the work site to Dickie's Park in Texas to the streets. Ain't nobody to keep you fitted like Dickie's, man. And this past week, we did all three. ghost who we got up first man i first up we got an email from sebastian san christ what's up i think seeing somebody push is a huge part of their style if done with power and intent it gets me hyped and it makes the tricks done after it looks so much better as well and vice versa a weak push makes the trick and style worse you agree who's got the best push and your opinion.
1:44:26Davis Torgerson:Cheers, boys, and thanks for what you're doing. Dude, favorite push is a hard one, especially coming off top. I'm going to give you two iconic pushes. Dennis Buzinitz, you know, short and sweet, and Thiago Lemos with the strong Brazilian push. So I can't really pick my favorite. Maybe out of the two, I'd say Thiago, man. That strong switch model. Brazilian push. Iconic. That's a good one. I'm going to go with just what comes to mind right now. Nick Stain. You know what I'm saying? He's got a pretty iconic push. You know what I'm saying? He holds that swag a little. He knows what he's doing. You know what I'm saying?
1:45:16Davis Torgerson:Beezing it out for all the Stainaholics out there. You get me? Yeah, dude. Why is it we're always watching Nick Stain when Carlos is around? well it's one of his favorite skaters and teammate uh yeah all right moving right along next up we've got a voice note from ben cabriana let's take a listen hey what's up boys
1:45:42The Bunt:ben cabriana calling once again from santa maria california first off safe up i'd like to wish you a big popos out for surviving that this cruise is important with the workaholics crew that looked like it was a hell of a lot of fun and i hope your liver is doing okay after that now i got one question for d jones don one of one uh the name story for your kid i wanted to know where the uh inspiration for that name came from and if there if it wasn't going to be story were there any backup names that you were uh you were gunning for uh fun fact about me my dad wanted to name me Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, but my my daughter's a little too heavy, so they settled for Ben.
1:46:23The Bunt:Keep killing it, guys. Love you guys. Later. Shit. That's awesome. Kareem. That would have been dope. I wanted to name him Sonny, but that didn't work out. Wife wasn't feeling that. My son didn't have a name for three weeks. We just called him Baby. and then she just stumbled upon it in a book she was reading and she came and brought it to me and she's like i think we're gonna name him story and i said absolutely not doesn't fit don't like the sound of that and then maybe it was you but or maybe someone sent me a clip of jeff van gundy is it jeff or steve one of them was on a broadcast and they actually brought up naming their kids Ben, probably.
1:47:14Yeah. And he's like, men think they have a say in this, but they really don't. So it's easier to just let it go and get it over with. So I heard that at like a really specific time in my life when she had brought the name story to the table. And I was like, you know what? Fuck it. His name story. And now, obviously, like people grow into their names, but it's perfect for him. So happy to have let that one go.
1:47:43Davis Torgerson:yeah maybe it was jeff actually because he lost his job but at the time he was still doing that yeah it was just a crazy time to to like hear that in my life and i was like i'm actually going through this right now it was either that or or uh tony what it went with anthony little tony soprano vibes but that one didn't stand a chance in my wife's eyes either though Tony's like an adult name. Yeah, I like adult names for babies. Walter. Well, I think he landed on the right one. Perfect. Yeah. Alright, next up we got an email from Adam Z. Hey, Bump Boys. I hope all is well in the faraway land of Canada.
1:48:33Davis Torgerson:The most recent post office questions were so fried i had to get on my computer and send y 'all one what is your favorite skateboarding related instagram page i've been really enjoying at overthinking skate videos let us know if you have any you enjoy thanks peace and love um i like i guess i'll just shout out frozen bushings right now. It's a Canadian one that does a great job just highlighting. They'll do like a photo. It's all Canadian stuff. The spots don't have to be in Canada, but Canadian skaters and they'll do like a screenshot or like whatever the photo and then the footage after and some slides, sometimes the sequence and stuff.
1:49:26Davis Torgerson:But they've been doing a good job just like digging through old mags. so it's uh got the nostalgia factor and then just highlighted canadians so shout out frozen bushings yeah frozen bushings obviously the first one coming to mind right now um i like the skate loop they do good ones and then um here in toronto we have a very important one winter crimes you gotta shout out all the people doing skate spot accounts in all the cities like what a very important thing to have for your city. Shout out everyone who does it for their own. Huge thing when people are visiting cities to have an Instagram account.
1:50:08They can just hop on and peep all the spots. Absolutely incredible work by the community. We just had one in Dallas. It was as good as it gets. Real shit. Alright. Next up, we've got a voice note from Half or four. Let's take a listen. What up, fools?
1:50:34The Bunt:It's Christian Halford out of West Virginia. A quick thing. I want to run by y 'all and see what y 'all have for me. Going to Barcelona for the first time in May. I'll be out there till June. You guys have a little crazy story about your first time in Barcelona. What are some do's and don'ts about that place? Coming down to West Virginia, you know, gravel roads. Driving 40 minutes to go skate a spot. it's gonna be completely different coming out of that hotel and being able to skate wherever the hell but yeah, big ups on the pod y 'all killing it, peace
1:51:11two's and don'ts about Barcelona shit man that's a tough one
1:51:21Davis Torgerson:I only went that one time I'm not too in the know over there yeah we were there for a house of vans years back did a live show there and then ended up staying there for a few days afterwards and skating which was wicked um dude i don't know if i have any advice man i would say don't buy the late night beers because they're fucking warm and they come out of sewers and you're probably the next day not going to be regretting not buying one. Yeah. They are cheap, but just at that point in the night, probably just pack it in when you're considering a 5 a.m. sewer beer. Yeah, that's a crazy vibe, man.
1:52:10But we all do it. We all drink out of the sewers.
1:52:15Any crazy stories? Dude, my brain is working on minimal function right now. All I can think of is the Ants 1 and Devin story. which is always the first one that comes to mind
1:52:30shit that's it sorry but you will have a blast especially going from a place where you're driving around from spot to spot like barcelona is the anti-car we never had a car once when we were there absolutely did not need it one of the most easy to use subway systems dude you're gonna have a blast man what a wicked place to go to for two months, especially the weather's going to be great. City's on the beach. Everything's cheap. One thing I would do next time is kind of follow the siesta rule a bit more. Here in North America, we tend to want to eat dinner around five or six, and everything is closed there.
1:53:13So I would try to adjust to their late-night dinner schedule maybe. That's all I could think of.
1:53:20Davis Torgerson:yeah make sure you get if you like octopus make sure you order a fuck ton of pool while you're out there and if you like spicy beef patties just you know i'm saying you're in heaven don't need a spicy beef
1:53:38Davis Torgerson:um all right next up we got an email from ralph tv recommendation and psl query uh dear don in Saipa. I fell down a Korean TV rabbit hole thanks to Saipa recommending Skycastle a couple years ago. It was very good. Another Korean series worth checking out on Netflix is Itaion I don't know how to say that one Itaion class. Itaewon class has Saipa watched it? Yes I have. I didn't like it. Also I was listening to the Good Luck with I was listening to the Good Luck with that podcast featuring Nora as the guest. Isn't she part of that podcast? Listen to it for all her stalker strife. And the host mentioned how PSL weren't inviting any female skaters to participate.
1:54:32Davis Torgerson:What's your take on that? Wouldn't mixed teams work or could the ladies get their own matches? Stunz Pod was really good. And what he said to Penny was harsh, but fair. True friends will tell you what's up. um okay just real quick on the korean thing i didn't like that show i hated the love triangle whenever there's a love triangle in the the person that i don't want to like end up in the relationship like fucking hunger games just ruined me like fucking picking that bumba clot baker son uh i'm team gale but in the that show that you mentioned eat the taiwan class i didn't like how the love triangle went and it just it just annoyed me but uh watch the frog and karma if you haven't if you want some new korean shit those two are absolute fire if you haven't seen them a frog and karma um you know that stalker story was crazy um i hope i hope the second one's being dealt with Nora, that sounds terrifying.
1:55:41Davis Torgerson:Oh, and PSL. PSL. So the thing with this year is this was, this is like the tester season. I know they did the one-off last year to kind of test out the format. And this is season one, still ironing out the kinks. and I did ask Mike Mo and he said like they want to eventually have a league as well but for year one with the amount of money they had to do this it was just I think they want to do they don't want to mix it they want to do one-on-one like most other contests which I think makes sense and that's kind of standard but they didn't have money to do two out the gate so I don't know when it's coming but they're definitely thinking about it so do not worry all right next up we've got a voice note from barry mccachner let's take a listen
1:56:46wait did you get that name bro bro i just got a question for donno yo um why the fuck you keep saying
1:56:55The Bunt:Detroit with it at the end, bro. Like, every time you bring up Detroit, it's Detroit-it.
1:57:03Davis Torgerson:You know, and that ain't right, bro. It's Detroit. What, you ain't a B-Rabbit fan, bro? Alright, man. Fuck with y 'all. Have a good day. How do you say it? I have a question there. I don't even know, dude. I guess I say it Detroit, but it's meant to be Detroit. I never even noticed how do you say it I say Detroit yeah you're saying it wrong now I feel like I'm saying it all weird I think I've said it I'm like overthinking it now Detroit I think I say Detroit yeah it's Detroit like no I don't know my bad dude sorry Barry I'm gonna work on that Detroit Detroit Yeah that's what I say Detroit basketball Yeah No more Detroit Detroit As everybody who's been watching my pronunciation Has been Slipping at a rapid pace Over the last few years Must be the age thing My bad dude My bad I got love for the city though Ain't that enough i guess not these days man she all right next up we got an email from max d quick two for the fellas is switch mongo legal safe none of this cop out sometimes bullshit yes or no two am i tripping or is johnny hernandez the mexican jeremy allen white uh shout out west So thanks for all you do.
1:58:47Davis Torgerson:Long live the Charter of Bunce and Freedoms.
1:58:53Switch mongos. It's legal. If you're Brazilian. That's it. And then, I don't know, let me bring up Jeremy Allen White and John Hernandez to pick side by side. Try and do that for the people, would you?
1:59:13Davis Torgerson:if you want a yes or no then I'll say yes because there's people who do it that I like it there's people that do that I don't but I'm not going to go as far as to say it's illegal because if Josh Kalis Stevie Williams Thiago dudes like that are doing it I ain't about to tell you that shit's illegal you dig but I think everyone should learn how to push switch regardless. Real shit. And I'm going to have to go with no. John Hernandez is not the Mexican Jeremy Allen White. He is, in fact, John one of one. Real shit. Alright, next up we have an email from Julian Casablancas. Hey, Bun Boys, please help me out.
2:00:01I feel like I'm going crazy. I swear I can remember you guys having Diego Todd on the podcast. I can recall parts of his episode And him telling you guys about how he grew up in Ventura, California or something. But when I go to look for the episode, it's not there. Am I losing it or was this episode deleted for some reason? Love the show. Been listening since 2018. Thank you. Legend, sir.
2:00:25Davis Torgerson:You officially lost it. And that's that. But we'll get Diego Todd on one day so that your dream or whatever vision comes to light. Definitely didn't happen. We've definitely tried for Diego. Todd just hasn't worked out in our favor yet. All right, y 'all. That's going to wrap up the post office for this week. Get your emails and voice notes into the bunt live at gmail.com. I don't think I've ever fucked that part up for.
2:01:06welcome back to the rundown the skateboard world source for sports nfl free agency has definitely gotten the better of us the last two weeks and we missed a monumental moment in the nba bam out of bio 83 points the highest point total for a televised game. Is that correct? Yeah. 100 points supposedly went down. It was written on a paper. Whatever that means. But Bam Adebayo, did you like the way it went down or no?
2:01:46Davis Torgerson:And let me get on my soapbox for a minute right here. You know what I'm saying? Anyone who knows me knows I'm a Kobe guy. but kobe aside i thought that was a fucking disgrace to get me and um i turned it on i saw i think i mean i'm in fantasy playoffs so i'm locked into everything that's going on i went on another matchup that was going on saw bam had like 58 at halftime or whatever it was and i was like that's got to be a mistake on the app and then all of a sudden he's got like i double checked it was actually happening and then going into the fourth i think he had maybe 68.69 somewhere around there and i was super hyped so i turned the game on tuned in i was like yo this is history this is awesome i'm rooting for him first couple baskets and free throws on the fourth i'm like super juiced and i'm like oh then he starts getting close to kobe and i was like oh is he actually gonna like do it and then he goes to the line of 79 or sorry uh He went to the line with 79, maybe.
2:02:58Davis Torgerson:I can't remember. But he goes up, ties it up. And I'm like, he's going to miss the second free throw on purpose and sub himself out with 80 just out of respect. And then I'm like, wait, no, that's crazy. There's no chance that was happening. Then he gets 81, and I'm like, you know what? Maybe he'll sub himself out now and tie him. And then he goes fucking getting triple team, goes back the line goes for 83 but honestly even before that i just left a bad face to my mouth i know everyone's throwing around ethical hoops and people are saying like oh i'm one i'm not mad at bam two i think the wizards are disgrace of a franchise right now and that whole nba has a crazy tanking problem people are putting out fucking gv teams weekly but it was also just all the bullshit um getting triple team turning the ball over trying to get it to him when he's triple teamed fucking missing free throws on purpose his teammates so bam could get a rebound and try and score again intentionally following the heat the last five minutes of that game was just a clown show like what definitely didn't feel like you're watching nba basketball no and i get the argument of like yo if you're close just go for it but bro i i've seen kobe i think get to 62 points in three quarters and sub himself out because it wasn't a game like the heat were up by like 30 for most of this uh and then i remember i think the thing they said at the time was kobe's teammates were like oh no you gotta go for 70 you gotta go for 80 and he's like ah i'll do it like i'll do it again like i'll do it when it makes sense or whatever and then a couple weeks later in a close game where they're down double digits at halftime and it's still a game in the fourth he needed those 81 points maybe the last couple points you could argue but like this was a blowout going into the fourth and bam really being out there so i didn't respect how it went down i thought in my brain it's like he ruined an epic 75 point game you know not him but just the whole team like spolster was part of it too that's the way i can you blame bam bam like for colby yeah he's gonna get another shot at it but is bam gonna get another shot at 83.
2:05:12Davis Torgerson:no that's what i started by saying i'm not mad at ben i am not i'm happy for ben i just just thought it was overall it just was just a clown it was just clown show the last fucking this is like uh part of the big picture that's wrong with the nba and why they're losing viewership uh it's a mess the nba is a goddamn mess man it started with the uh guy sitting out it just got worse and worse and worse and worse star players barely playing the whole season none of them even played the whole season anymore and now the tanking is an issue and this 83 points was a goddamn joke like they're not even playing basketball in the fourth quarter like the nba's got some problems man they have like the top contenders like those are the only teams really playing basketball and even then they're resting their starters um we went and watched the basketball game this week i've never been more bored at a live sporting event in my life partially because of jake but uh he was a little distracting but i just think the nba is in a really weird spot man yeah i'm really excited adam silver said like he's taking it real serious and there's going to be some big time changes next year some of the stuff that was suggested suggested like that i saw i think will actually make a difference i can't remember the specifics but adam silver is bringing the hammer down and bro i mean i had you as a legitimate nba fan for years and the product went and i don't blame you at all like i barely watch regular season anymore i don't blame you at all for bouncing from our fantasy league like fantasy basketball is the worst fantasy sport now by far it was it's just a huge fluke because everyone's resting you can't strategize around that it's it's yeah so fingers crossed they fixed it next year me a basketball fan and then fantasy basketball made me not a basketball fan like that's how quick it happened it is one league where you can win the whole regular season and then everybody that got you there just doesn't play in the in the playoffs and it's like a normal thing in the league you know like even in the nfl people talk about oh you can rescue they only rest guys in that week 18 or whatever it is when they know it's legit like the nba is resting people four weeks out of the playoffs man it's a scary thing i don't know how he's gonna fix it but i guess fines and suspensions and uh stuff like that is the way to go fuck i had i knew i knew i shouldn't have i usually i'm smart enough to never draft utah players because they're the face of tanking and have been for a few years now they're a fucking disgrace but i remember reading something that was like utah they got the fifth pick or something last year like they tanked so blatantly last year and then that because they flattened odds they ended up not getting a top four or five pick like they got fucked basically which was well deserved because fuck them for like just being so blatant about it yeah and then i remember they got like a higher pick and and the word was like oh like utah's not tanking anymore like they're after getting fucked they're like whatever let's just try and be competitive so i had an opportunity to draft lori markinen who's an absolute fantasy stud thinking like okay let me trust that they're not gonna tank bro they started resting dudes before the all-star break like you know i had to drop that tool on the wire take yeah you stop playing fourth quarters like i love the nba but i hate the nba man it's it's dude it went through frustrating me the like lebron versus steph era was like the as shit as it was that they played each other so much that was the golden competitive era for for i mean this age generations nba like those were the most exciting playoffs for me and then the raptors won like that that was when i was locked into it anyways i was enjoying watching regular season games um i just don't watch it at all anymore they lost me dude i noticed it going down it went downhill quick in my opinion after the bubble like the bubble no could help what was happening there but the tanking and the rest and went through the roof coming back the next season like 2021 onwards it's been really bad yes so moving on you're still in dallas with the squad i just got home from dallas just a few hours ago but make no mistake next saturday night the skate world's eyes will be on los angeles california and the psl semifinals and finals i know we've been getting roasted a little bit online saying we're biased towards psl and then we had that email last week where the guy you know he he didn't like it and then they questioned our answer to them we are truly just fans of psl there's literally no bias man friends are not friends with the guys behind the scenes i'm watching every minute of psl i'm talking about it with my homies and i'm super excited to be there next weekend so we're just going to do some quick predictions while we have a moment on our last our second last psl minute of the season man semi-finals matchup number one shs it's john one of one paul rodriguez Julian Christensen Julian Aguilardi versus the Tropics and my MVP front runner Jamie Foy, Trevor Colden Dew Fence I shot where John D 'Lo let's hear it man
2:11:37I'm gonna say
2:11:40Davis Torgerson:discipline discipline discipline of shs rears its beautiful head and uh p rod dropping switch tray they ain't got the answer actually they do have the answer trevor colden could do it um shot i just think julian christensen is gonna go a little too hard man he's gonna land his rail tricks paul's gonna hold them down with a little switch front heel you know what i'm saying i'm going for the upset shs gets the w over the last few weeks we have truly seen the rise of julian christensen he has the most points in 19 the most offensive lands in 39 his offensive efficiency a staggering 81.3 % but and a big but the tropics know how to play defense and what we've seen especially in elimination week is the first inning of offense is where the bulk of the points were all scored at elimination week so if the tropics are on offense they're in a good spot but if they're on defense they've got the guys to play defense and I think Jamie Foy and the tropics come out on top and ashad ware finally makes his presence felt at pso so we're off we're going off so far you got shs i got tropics we might be headed to a battle here in the second semi-final we have the soldiers naija mickey papa yvonne martinez sinner going up against the greatest PSL team ever assembled.
2:13:29The first place Wolverines, Chris Jocelyn, Christian Jordan, Roman Hager. That's the top three that strikes fear in any PSL team. Who are you going with?
2:13:41Davis Torgerson:You know who I'm going with, and you forgot, arguably, the MVP of the entire league, Art Cordova. You know what I'm saying? Soldiers, what's up? Sin Squad. Yeah, Dave, let's get it. Make me proud. We fucking popping, man. Yo, Wolverines ain't got shit on the soldiers. You get me? Yeah, the only thing the Soldier fans are going to need those Center Security T-shirts for is removing the Soldiers after the Wolverines make quick work of them. This is going to be, you know, it ain't going to be pretty. I hope their families aren't watching. Christian Jordan saw him down at Phoenix, Sam, doing his thing on his off weekend.
2:14:22Ain't many guys built like him. Chris Josselin coming back off a high off his SOTY trip. His confidence is through the roof. And you got Roman Hager. And that back 180-50-50 is going to hit this week, and it's going to hit hard. And the Wolverines are headed to the finals. We can't predict the finals because we have polar opposites, but you can pick one out of the four. Who's it going to be?
2:14:49Davis Torgerson:let's go with oh well you're saying soldiers versus SHS in the finals P-Rod and Nige going toe to toe for the first PSL championship it hasn't received a name yet but who will win the soldiers what Art Cordova carries his team to the championship you dig That would be absolutely insane. I mean, Art, he could put the team on his back. Damn, our Cardovo PSL champion. Ah, man, y 'all know what it is for me, man. I've been the same since day one. You've been switching up Los Santos this, Los Santos that. But from day one, it's been about the Wolverines. Chris Joslin made me a real fan week one. And I've been rolling with the Wolverines ever since.
2:15:43I'm going to get my jersey down there on Saturday. I just don't know who I'm going to have on the back you know what I'm saying
