In short
The Bunt skateboarding podcast episode featuring pro skater Zander Mitchell, plus skate video/app shoutouts, skate news shout-outs, and a brief NFL coaching/fantasy discussion.
Guest backgrounds
Zander Mitchell grew up in Scottsboro, Nova Scotia, then moved to New Glasgow and later Montreal (around age 18; he says he’s been in Montreal ~13-14 years). He started skating at 7, influenced by his older brother Stuart. He trained in a barn (natural gaps, slappy front board on a log) and later in a basement and local prefab parks, then progressed through Canadian contests and sponsorships.
Key claims
He says turning pro “a month ago” was his favorite skate moment. He credits “timing” for his long sponsor journey, listing many board/shoe homes before landing at Jacuzzi. He describes committing to scary tricks using escalating “bets” (e.g., if he doesn’t stick a try, he pays money; if he lands it, “debts cleared”). He also says he got cut from Vans due to budget cuts, but that it was “good timing” because Asics started its shoe program and he got in early.
Notable examples
Barn training with a tire kicker and a rolling rail; local spots “Dooley’s Wall” and a stage gap; a winter trip to an indoor park in Moncton where he fainted while driving back; his pro-day Jacuzzi premiere with a paid actor impersonating Louis Barletta; and a missed-flight story tied to late-night weed and deep-frying.

0:50I'm D. Jones. I got my main man, The Ghost, with me. We got Richie Valdez and Ants One behind the scenes. It's a cool team. Ghost. ep 2 very special episode man young bull in the building tell him what's cracking
1:08Davis Torgerson:and long overdue but we also wanted to wait for the right time so i'm glad we did our boy xander mitchell in the building he turned pro i feel like we've been having conversations for years about when the right time for him to come on was where i was like okay next part you drop or whatever and then once he got on jacuzzi it was like okay once you're pro i think that's perfect it worked out perfectly epic interview uh the good homie for a long time uh super proud of his success he found in the skate game he's a fucking skate nerd skateaholic so xander shout out to you awesome interview then we're taking y 'all straight to the post office which was pretty empty this week step your game up people we're back don't forget to send them emails in and then we're wrapping it up with the rundown some uh nfl coaching talk you know what it is make sure to follow us on instagram at the bunt live subscribe to us on youtube youtube.com slash at the bunt hit up our patreon patreon.com slash the bunt and then of course thebuntlive.com every episode logged for your listening pleasure ghosts you do this shit so the people don't have to man the shout out of the week without further ado you know what time it is y 'all you know i'm saying shout out of the week and skateboarding has always been shaped by the videos that represent it it's how a lot of us connect to skating in the first place lately videos are treated as disposable content algorithms decide what gets seen and full lengths are reduced to a couple of clips in a feed.
2:49Davis Torgerson:That's not how skate videos are meant to be experienced. That's why the Den was built. The Den is a skate video app curated and designed by skaters. It has a deep catalog of videos preserved in their original quality, pure vision, pure sound exactly the way filmers intended them to be seen. From the classics to the latest releases and a 24 hour live channel for when you just want to kick back and zone out. The The Den was made so when something special comes along, it stays front and center long after the feeds moved on. So if you care about skate videos like we do, become a member and download The Den for free on iPhone, Android, the web, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV.
3:33Like I said last week, there's so much stuff backlogged from the offseason that I'm going to go a little bit back in time.
3:41Davis Torgerson:and give a massive shout out to the Skate Skates crew, Winnipeg Stand Up. Their video sidekick was incredible. I'm a big fan of Eric Penton, and I feel like he leveled up his trick selection style, everything, put out his best part to date. So make sure you check that sidekick. The whole crew killed it, and they actually have a really gnarly crew, but Penton, you did your thing once again. young blood yeah people need to sponsor his ass and what i think he's skating adidas and and real boards like you know it's time it's time to bump him up uh in the sponsorship rankings from canadian whatever to maybe a little get him on a trip i was gonna say paycheck but you know start with getting him in the van send him down south too yeah yeah because he could you know you could take him to any spot skate with any level crew like he ain't intimidated he can get clips with the best of them so keep doing your thing but the whole crew is wicked whole video is awesome shout out winnipeg dude he's got your type of skating man a little tech nar action to the kid man you see him on instagram too back home skating indoor parks flipping in and this flipping out of that and then hopping on the big rails in his part man that's the that's the combo Did you see that big spin front one?
5:07Davis Torgerson:That was probably my favorite one I've seen of that trick. But yeah, that's the main shout of the week. I'm just going to rifle off a couple more. I got to get through this list. Hold on to your heads. Just quick. Just quick. I don't know if you saw this one, Donald. Chad Benson dropped apart at 50 years old. He's an OG switch trade gang. So I've been like paying attention to him forever. He dropped a new switch tray, but he dropped a full part. He's fucking 50 Hats off to Chad Benson Gabbers forgot to show him out his Ridiculously gnarly part that had him in sody conversation shout out E2 we were just saying was in that car heart video some choice tricks, but his one pro part was ridiculously beast Yeah, I really like the hard body Video.
6:02Davis Torgerson:Oh my I made notes to myself Ross kickflip frontside 50-50 Actually, I don't remember what that was Now, but it was unreal Oh And we posted this on our Instagram In the offseason, but I'll End it here for this week's skateboard caps Allegro video With our homies and that whole squad Fucking Sean Curry KGZ, Dom Henry Stateside The whole crew just killing it. So a few shout outs for this week. Dude, after the hard body video dropped before SOTY was announced, right? That was a little while ago in the offseason. When that shit dropped, Morgan Smith texted me and said Antonio Durrell's abs should win SOTY.
6:48And I agree, man. What a fucking beast that guy is. He doesn't get that type of recognition, but he could have been up there for SOTY this year. He went absolutely ham. And shout out to him. And then two other shout outs. D-Loy dropped his part this week. 20 years on Birdhouse. Shout out David Loy. Still going fucking ham. And then, like you said, that new Carhartt video. Our boy Tanner Brzezinski in the vid. Always love to see Tanner footy. Shout out to him. Usually this is in the rundown. The rundown was already recorded, so I'm not forgetting this shit. PSL Minute, man. Our boy Mike Mo. Had a little turbulence with the location.
7:31That shit happens when you're doing events. The fact that he's able to turn this around, switch locations, and it's going to happen just one week later. Shout out to Mike Moe, man, for doing all this shit and everyone behind the scenes. Vince, you guys making this happen one week later at a brand new location. PSL will continue. Shout out to boys. So excited to see that shit, man.
7:56Davis Torgerson:Yeah, I got my picks in on the app, man. Get the app. You know what I'm saying? I'm facing, I'm against Vince Mokapaldi himself week one. Who are you facing, Donald? I got to check. But did you see Vincent Milou is out for the season, bro? Like, this is real fantasy shit now, man. Yeah, that should be like, he's too busy to set his lineups, dude. Like, that guy's got so much shit going on. I don't even know if he knows there is an app for this thing. And he created it. All right. ghost Xander Mitchell in the building let's get to it man we've been waiting a long time for this one Sandini
8:45alright here we go we got Xander Mitchell in the building today what's cracking man yo what's up how are you guys we weren't just shooting this shit for 20 minutes
8:58Davis Torgerson:It went all serious for a sec. I got nervous. When the intro hits, dog. Xander, we start every show off the same. We warm up. Take it slow. Hit us with your favorite skate moment and your favorite sports moment. Favorite skate moment? Probably turning pro a month ago. Let's go. Cool to, like, have all my friends around and stuff. And, like, my girlfriend and my brother. That was sick. Sports moment? Probably when the Raptors won the NBA. I'm not like a big sports guy, but that was cool to watch. It was cool to see a Canadian team like win something. I don't know. I was like watching it, like watching all the games with Eric Fisher.
9:43And we were like watching him at his house. I don't know. It was pretty cool to see. Last game was insane. That was a good run.
9:49Davis Torgerson:So, yo, take us back to the beginning. Where did you grow up and how did you get into skating? I grew up in Scottsboro, Nova Scotia. My brother, my older brother Stuart got me into skating when I was seven. He was 12. He's like five years older than me. So he started when he was 12 because of his friend Donald started skating. And then like he got hyped on skating. And then I just saw them skating. So I started to. But I think the first thing that we like watched, watched maybe it was like some like rodney mullen versus day one stuff kind of before i knew like what any like tricks were we were just like watching those and then like i remember globe opinion we saw that too and classic they were super hyped on like chet thomas and like globe and dark star and stuff like that like my brother's first board was a dark star chet thomas and he had like clear grip tape on it that's fucking sick yeah this is random but donald do you remember what i asked jake phelps there was something about a joke about globe opinion but it just went over his head and i just remember like he just started talking about something completely different no that's some crazy first videos uh your brother's still skating at all yeah yeah he skates like he's going to mcgill right now so he's kind of busy with school but i get him to come skate like at least once a month he'll come skating but like he's the kind of person that like doesn't really need to skate all the time he can like relearn his tricks in like a session and i'm really not like that i have to like skate every like couple days to feel like good on the board, you know?
11:34Davis Torgerson:I don't know if I've seen your bro skate. Does he have varial heel nose grinds and shit like that, too? No, we kind of have different... He does, like, tray flips, nollie flips, switch flip. He's kind of hesh. What? I can't picture it now. I lost it. Yeah, he's, like, more hesh. I post them on my Instagram sometimes. Get some clips send us some clips So we can put them in here man He does he does some stuff over the hip at Van Horn on my Instagram He like kickflips it and like pop shoves and He's got like good back tails Sounds a beast All right first big break in the skate industry That's a tough one.
12:23I don't even know man Maybe getting on a six yeah like two two three years ago that was like probably the first like real sponsor that i had that was like hooking me up good i went on this gen come trip to new york for like two or three days and after that they like gave me a contract and they like yeah after this trip they like
12:49Davis Torgerson:hooked me up because i was just never seen productivity like that bro i mean i just tried to skate super hard and like i didn't even i don't know i just was like they just we went to some good spots and stuff and it kind of just worked out we skated this like long sea ledge that was pretty cool that was fun bro so sick um so you grew up on a farm which i didn't know uh yeah take us back to those days and like your skate set up there and then i heard you moved to like a slightly more populated zone but still a small town uh like an old victorian house and you literally were skating your house for years give us the the rundown on those days of like honing your craft in the house and at the farm and shit um yeah we'd skate in our barn my like my parents had a dairy farm when i was younger but uh uh yeah so they like eventually ended up selling the cows and like me and my brother Stuart would skate in the barn because it was just empty for a while like a couple years and like I remember we had like a kicker with like a tire underneath so it would like you'd go off and it would kind of like bounce we like really didn't know what the hell we were doing we were like we like put it over a gap like over like there's like gutters for like the cows like to like shit in basically behind the cows so we like put a kicker over the gutter like the shit gutter like like a round like metal like rail that would just like roll around on the ground it was like a pole basically that wasn't like secured down with anything we just tried a 50 50 and it would like roll around oh my god fucking sideshow in there dude uh we had like i remember learning how to like front board on like a log that like before i could even ollie I would just like run into front boards like slappy front board on like a log but that's like the first trick I learned was slappy front board slide before I could ollie Jesus Christ yeah there was like a gap there was like a natural gap in there that was kind of cool like from like kind of like platform to platform where it was just like a slant and we'd like skate it it's like we'd put like two pieces of plywood and gap in between the plywoods my brother would like fuck it up he would like tray flip it and shit going like full speed
15:17all this that sounds insane barn says and then my parents ended up selling the farm and we moved to new glasgow nova scotia which is like a small town of like 10 000 people 30 minutes away from scottsburn where the farm was and yeah we'd like skate in my driveway a bunch we had like a ledge in the driveway a couple like flat bars and like in the winter time just like move everything downstairs and skate in the basement and until I got too tall because the roof was like pretty low so like my brother couldn't really skate down anymore down there anymore because after he was like 16 or something because he kind of got too tall so like up until when I was like yeah like the same thing I had to like I remember skating down there like I think we moved there around when I was 12 or 13 for the first couple of years, I used to skate in my basement a lot.
16:09And just like, just like, I remember learning like switch trays on flat and like backsmith, a lot of backsmith tricks. I remember learning on this, like one box and like skating the flat bar and stuff like doing front crooks where I thought I could like front crook, but I was just like doing like weird, like crooked snow plows on like the whole flat bar, like a square rail, like front crook that like wasn't. Yeah.
16:32Davis Torgerson:Yeah. Jesus Christ. That's the next level, man. That's dedication. That's a journey right there, man. Starting in the barn, moving to the basement. You got to do it, man. We'd also skate this plastic skate park called Stellerton. This one guy had this skate park company called Big Daddy. He would sell ramps to towns, basically. It was like prefab skateboard ramps. And we had one of those skate parks, too. So we'd skate there a lot, too. In Stellerton, Nova Scotia, yep. Any street spots growing up? Yeah, there was a famous spot called Dooley's Wall. I don't know if you guys have Dooley's there.
17:12I don't think so. It's like a bar, like pool kind of hall thing. Okay. So there was like a one-foot wall, retaining wall that was like, you'd like pop over a wall and go down like maybe like a four-foot drop. Oh, okay. It was called Dooley's Wall. Classic spot. And, like, we had this stage gap that was, like, there would be, like, a summer, like, it was called the Jubilee, where there was, like, bands would come play, like, Celtic rock bands or some shit and, like, come play, like, shows on, like, the stage. But, like, it was, like, super smooth concrete. So it was, like, basically just a drop with, like, a little tiny gap at the bottom, like, with a curb.
17:52But we would, like, skate it like a gap. So, yeah, there was, like, the stage gap, Dooley's Wall. Those are probably the two most famous ones in New Glasgow.
18:00Davis Torgerson:go that's epic you're living in nova scotia i feel like young skaters east coast or from any smaller town they have three choices to make to like try and take the next step in canadian skating they could move to montreal toronto or vancouver what what went into your decision and how old were you when you moved my brother lived in montreal he moved there like after high school and he would just like always tell me how like sick it was and stuff for skating and everything so i remember i won i am getting paid qualifier at the commons in halifax when i was like 15 and they you won like a flight to montreal to go skate the uh finals contest in montreal so they like get you a hotel room they get you a flight they fly you out there oh yeah also dc nationals the same summer i won the dc nationals qualifier at the the same skate park the commons in Halifax, the same thing.
18:59They buy you a hotel. They fly you out to Montreal. So it's like that one, the finals was like DC King of Montreal. It was in July or August in Montreal. So I remember coming to that one and staying a couple days. And then like for the contest, like they got me a hotel. And then my brother let me stay at his house after for like a while. And I also stayed with Kevin McDonald and Chris Melvin and those guys' house for a bit. would like either stay at my brother's house or stay at their their house so i remember coming to montreal that summer i think i was 15 and i was just like loved it i was like this place is the best like way better for skating than where i was from it seemed like like barcelona or something compared to like nova scotia like ledge spots you're like holy this is crazy and now i look at these spots and i'm like fuck dude these spots fucking suck yeah basement training i mean just looking at the same spots for like 13 years you get sick of them but montreal has really good spots i'm just like probably a little burnt out on them how long you've been there now yeah 20 years like 13 years i think maybe going on 14 uh i moved here when i was 18 32 now so damn yep going on 14 years that's pretty crazy yeah time flies that's wild so uh back to winter skating for a second can you tell us about the time you made a winter trip to the indoor park in new brunswick with brad brad mcdonald oh yeah i think or riverview riverview in in moncton yeah we drove to riverview like in like a snowstorm basically with ashley george was driving the van his van like made like a big plan to like go skate at the park like on the weekend or something and it ended up being a crazy snowstorm and i think we just still ended up going can skate like it's like a three hour drive three and a half hour drive from nova scotia to moncton and yeah we go to the park and we like skate for a while and i think like on the way back I was like drinking like beers.
21:13I was like pretty young. So I must have been like 13 or something like 13, 14 drinking like beers and stuff. Maybe I probably had like one beer and like we're like smoking weed and stuff. And like I like fucking fainted or something like driving like in the van on the drive back. Like I thought I was like dying. We were like, oh, shit. We fucking killed him. It's like Kenny from South Park. He's fucking dead back there.
21:44so that pretty much what happened yeah we like drove there in a snowstorm and i like died on the way back driving home he said you guys had to pull over on the way back because
21:55Davis Torgerson:you like greened out and that like he thought you guys were gonna get killed by like a truck just like because you pulled over on the side of the road he's he said it was gnarly as fuck yeah like because it was like a blizzard we should have never done that we're just so like desperate to go skate because there's like no indoor skate park you're like two months deep no skating yeah i mean i would skate my basement but like eventually my mom would get like kind of bummed because it was like really loud it's just like for sure it's like one floor between the like the skating and uh the i don't know where she'd be like hanging out the living room yeah basically that's so fucking loud like dude so loud i can't believe she yeah yeah like hours of skating she's probably the one who set up the trip to new brunswick dude get the fuck out of here um so xander you've had one of the fucking wildest like unique journeys through your skate career to this point uh it would take all day to go through everything in detail but just for the listeners that aren't familiar with you do you want to just go give like a quick history of like major like shoe brands and board brands over the years all the way up to like present day where we're hyped that you you found some comfortable homes and shit but and and like the timeline because it's fucking it's crazy when you think about it and we're so happy for you that everything's working out so good right now yeah i'm grateful i think I just got like lucky with timing that's like skating really it's all just like timing first real sponsor I had was Habitat boards and shoes getting it direct through Brennan Conroy John Sparks used to work for Habitat he works for Burton and it's like when Burton owned they owned Alien Workshop and Habitat and Gravis and Analog at one point so he like had budget to like hook people up with Habitat and like Alien and then he started giving me Habitat boards and he ended up getting me boards through Brennan Conroy for a bit.
24:07And like, I think I was just, I wasn't really doing too much with skating. I was just like skating in Nova Scotia, like 15, 16, just filming there. And I never like ended up going on any trips. I think it kind of just fizzled out or something to do with Habitat getting sold, bought or sold. And then I remember I ended up getting like demoted to Superdist. Habitat from that. So I was like, oh shit, like kind of blowing it, I guess, or something. Because I was getting like eight, or I was Habitat boards and shoes. So I was getting like eight boards and like 10 pairs of shoes a month. And I was like, wow, this is fucking epic.
24:46Like what the hell? And then, and like, it was like in the middle of the winter when my first box showed up. And I was like, what the hell is going on here? Like why are they sending me so many boards? and then after like a year or two yeah they started like sending me like three boards but it was like because it was through super disc now it's like a different budget i didn't really understand that when i was a kid because i was like oh why are they sending me like way less boards now like this sucks this is bullshit okay i'm gonna keep count that's one one board and one shoe yeah sorry i'm taking a while bob lasalle asked me to skate for vans at that point and i fucking blew that one he came to halifax and we skated i skated with him and nate oliver and bob was like um do you want to get van's shoes instead of those shitty habitat shoes and i was like i was like how many pairs can you give me a month and he's like i can give you like two pairs a month or three pairs i was like what i'm getting like 10 from habitat man like that's fucked like i'm chilling over here i'm staying with habitat footwear which is like a really bad move on my part for sure yeah bob was just trying to fucking help me in habitat shoes and they like ended up like going out of business after like a year or something so yeah that was a bad one but what else after habitat i think i skated for 3d skateboards through like center I didn't know that yep and then I remember getting like 3D because like in Canada it's like package deals you know about this so it's like I had to quit Superdisk to get center distribution package deal what shoes were this offering?
26:29Canadian Skate Games 2 I don't think I had shoes anymore I don't think I was getting shoes anymore I was getting just habitat boards oh no I was getting huff shoes weary Brian Weary called me
26:41Davis Torgerson:How dare you forget that era Are you crazy That's a good one Weed socks Weed socks for sure I was getting huff shoes And clothes and weed socks So yeah I was getting 3D boards Independent and OJ Through Center Dist And then That went out of business too After like a year What was after that Oh Quasi I was getting quasi through grand trading for a second when it was like called mother it was called mother and that and then like I was like getting flow boards like well it like turned into quasi and then that was definitely not going anywhere because I was just still flow in Canada we're at three boards two shoes and then I quit quasi to get studio boards because brett weinstein like was coming to visit montreal he's like staying at my house and he's like oh you should just skate for studio so i was like yeah it'd be cool to be part of something like more real and you're actually on the team versus like just being flow through a distribution like like every other one that i was on so i skated for studio that was a proper stint dude yeah that was a good home your your studio part i think is still my favorite of your parts and they made the one last part they're good thank you thank you means a lot yeah studio was cool because it's like canadian and like they gave me a board and like your homies were on there yeah and i got to skate with like my friends like that was like a main thing because i was like oh it's all my friends skate for like kyle mcdonald was on there and like joey la rock and like brett like i was skating with brett a bunch at that point and like yeah just like a bunch of people that lived in Montreal.
28:28So it made way more sense. And like McGraw and shit, like OG McGraw. Are you still on Huff throughout this? I think so. Yeah. Getting Huff shoes. The shoes went out of business, but they kept making clothes. So I think that's when I started skating. Oh yeah. I got on like Brixton instead of Huff from Josh Clark. Josh Clark hooked me up with brixton and i don't know what i was getting for shoes at that point when didn't you switch to vans or was nike before that oh you're right yeah i was getting nikes through scuba steve somehow oh rob cc hit or like rob was working at nike as a sales i think in the states because like nike canada isn't a thing there's like no program in canada so i was buying nikes at like the dime store or something just because like they skated good i just like wanted to skate blazer mids or something so yeah i was buying nikes and then i remember like rob like emailed me to be like hey i'm gonna like get scuba to send you shoes and that was pretty crazy because like they were sending like huge boxes of shoes it was like fucking 18 pairs of nikes with like another box that was like 10 pounds of clothes and socks and like it was like the most insane boxes showing up to my house.
29:53Seven pairs of dunks and shit in each box. I never really got that many boxes, but the ones that showed up were really good. Because I think it was right before COVID, and then once COVID happened, they had to cut the whole skate flow team. Because it was like, I don't know, there was way too many people. Apparently there was 300 people on the flow-gram. Yeah, they ended up like cutting me off the I ended up getting cut around there. And then you ask for Vans, three, then Vans. Now we're at four and four. What was I getting after studio? Oh, there's no fear. Dime did like a board company called No Fear Skateco.uk for a second.
30:39What? That actually happened? Yeah, they were like going to make boards and they were like making like prototype boards. It was like Alexi. Who else? Leon, maybe.
30:50Davis Torgerson:I never thought that got past the joke Instagram phase there wasn't that many people they were just trying to get a couple people to skate for it it was like Guillaume and Phil were trying to start No Fear as like a board brand like Dimes like board brand but then that didn't last very long that lasted like maybe like a couple months okay so that's five and then five on the board side then I was skating Vans Canada Drew Williams and Dylan Fulford and like Connor hooked me up with like a contract for like a year and then that ended and then I think like budget cuts like Vans wasn't doing super hot like classic skate shit budget cuts I got cut first because I was the last one on so I was the first one to get cut like out of like seniority kind of thing can't cut the most productive guy yeah but it's just like there's people that were there way longer than me so it's like you can't just like put this guy on and then cut the other guy that's been there longer like i mean yeah five boards and four shoe companies now we're almost up to present day death wish reynolds sent me boards for like a year and then sour i was getting sour boards for like a little bit through emil the tm he was sending boards to hugo alexi and me because they wanted to do like sour canada or something but like that didn't end up working out yeah after vans i got on asics but it was actually a really good thing that i got kicked off vans because it like was really good timing because asics was just starting the shoe program and i got in like really early like i was like hitting up rob like before they even had shoes in canada he was like sending me shoes out of like his garage he was sending me like not even the skate shoes he's sending me like the regular japan pros that were like weren't even weren't even for skating but i was just like making them work and like yeah eventually they started like getting the like budget and whatever and being able to send me real the actual skate shoes and then after like a year of being flow they put gave me a contract so that worked out really good actually i'm like stoked i got kicked off vans because yeah i have way better opportunities at asics for sure yeah so how long was that maybe like 15 years or so of kind of like bouncing around to find your shit because i think we went over seven board brands there before it was the last thing before jacuzzi yeah sour was the last thing before jacuzzi it was like jacuzzi was number eight which is crazy and then a6 was number five i think on the shoe side yeah i think that's all of them better late than never bruv you made it yeah i know it's pretty crazy that it ended up working out like that i thought i was freaking washed man at like 27.
33:37I was like working in a dime warehouse and I was like, there's no way that skating is ever going to happen.

33:43Davis Torgerson:Yeah, fuck. You made it happen, man. Yeah, you got to just keep on trucking. No, some people got to keep trucking. Some people are delusional and need to get in the real world. I thought I was like one of those delusional people like, I want to fucking be a... How do you fucking know when to stop smoking? Most times I think... there's a couple guys out there i could name some names that need to stop looking but i think i was being fully delusional but it ended up ended up working out for me i think i just got really lucky like two new brand two new brands like that's where i got lucky you get in when the budget's like fresh and like new brands that actually have some money is rare too so yeah like people were like telling me like yo you're gonna skate for asics like what the fuck are you doing and i was like i kind of i could kind of see the future i was like it's just gonna be like nike sb or adidas or new balance they make good running shoes prior so the shoe technology is like good to make good skateboard shoes it's definitely like a really good company to be on just got now love it on the team shout out nile davis fucking locking down deals while we're on road trips he's fucking sick yeah he's unreal here are five times when ice is good to have cooling drinks keeping drinks cold when placed on a rink when it comes out of a speaker and ends with cube or tea, making smoothies or iced coffee, and that's it.
35:27No other ice is needed. This message was brought to you by CHPO Brand, the worldwide leader in sunglasses and watches, and always, always doing it for the people.
35:43You've also had various phases in your skateboarding as well. Before locking in as a ledge god um we used to see you going crazy in contests keeping up with guys like niger skating big rails what got into you that day at canada's wonderland man that day i remember we were on a quicksilver canada trip and we were in toronto visiting toronto to like film and stuff and just skating eclipse and do like a little demo at dunbat i think and the it was kind of But based around the contest, too, because like Dario knew that the TM at the time knew that the contest was happening there. So he's like, if anyone wants to skate the contest, they can do that.
36:25And like we'll skate street and we'll do the demo. And that's going to be like the trip. And they just rented us like an Airbnb somewhere in Toronto and brought out like the Canadian team. So I remember going to the contest and seeing Mitch B and Max Fine. and they're like do you want to go on the the i think it's called the goliathin it's like the biggest roller coaster in canada and i never like had been on a roller coaster ever in my life and i was like fuck yeah let's do it let's go on the goliathin and um it was insane it's like goes like 300 feet and it only has a bar at your waist so when you go it goes up 300 feet and then like free falls and goes like 170 kilometers an hour or something and like when you're going down the thing you can like put your arms out and like look over the the drop basically and it was fucking insane dude like it's the craziest shit ever and um i remember there was like when they take the like photo after of like your like face like when you're like coming through the tunnel or whatever it was like max fine and mitchby and me and we're like
37:40and uh i remember that was super crazy and then uh after the contest like didn't seem like that scary i remember like we warmed up before the roller coaster and i was like oh shit like i'm gonna suck at this one like it's all like a 12 stair basically but different sized obstacles down a 12 stair like off a stage there would be like a long like four block and like a rail on that one and then like a longer like more mellow rail down like a 12 and like yeah it was all just like huge impact zone i remember being like super shook and like we went on the roller coaster and then we came back and i was like so down to skate the like shit because i was like oh i just went on the fucking gnarliest roller coaster like ever in canada like that like skating the like big shit that didn't seem as scary after that so i guess it just like helped me skate the contest a little
38:28Davis Torgerson:better dude i was in disbelief donald were you there that day i can't remember no i didn't go i don't even remember what i did i remember i was wearing like a really whack-ass fit that was wearing like shorts and like a fucking tank top or some shit like a bucket i just remember i couldn't believe you were just keeping up with like like you felt you looked like you weren't you didn't look out of place with like it was niger mickey papa scott descenzo really and i I remember you like nose blunted the big long rail like first try. I don't remember that. I remember I back tailed it and I was like stoked on that because that was scary.
39:06Dude, I'm like positive you did it first try. Yeah, I remember I said nose blunt rails and then I sacked one really bad one time and I stopped doing it. Like on the way up, I like clipped my board and like just like jumped like to sack. And I was like, that was pretty much the end of my nose blunt days on rails.
39:21Davis Torgerson:If something got into you that day, I'd never seen. like i didn't even know you really well at the time but i was just like couldn't believe it like what i was seeing it was the roller coaster with mitch yeah that's crazy i didn't know that part of the story that's so sick that's a new i want to see that photo yeah i want to see the photo more like going through the tunnel or whatever that is like the biggest roller coaster in canada i think it's called leviathan or something like that but it's fucking insane it's like super long yeah that was fucking sick and i never even had been on a roller coaster before so that was like that's a good crazy hit that one first what was that contest again take the cake it was like a west 49 west 49 um contest yeah um so later that day you're coming off an epic performance um you had a dinner with the monster crew man any anything uh go down at that monster dinner the monster dinner was after uh the the bunt jam oh okay okay like so yeah with like matt different trip yeah okay different year so tell us that's like that's way later then yeah yeah that's like bunt jam maybe like the second one a football one yeah there's a second bunt jam yeah yeah so yeah we're like skating downtown toronto i was with like jake and nolan waller jake johnson for the people yeah jake johnson and uh that's an insane trio we're like trying to film like an iphone taj for dime and uh we're like skating around trying to get some like clips we ran into matt bennett he just like was skating down the street he's like oh what's up guys like what are you guys doing and we're like oh we're just skating like you want to come skate with us and then uh yeah so like matt bennett joined the crew we're like then we like ended up going like around toronto we like went to like td like the manual pad in the back it's like a circle mani pad is that td no that's commerce court oh yeah commerce court court like by the gold rail and stuff yeah yeah we skated that we skated the like plaza that like um bobby filmed the quasi part at yeah that's td yeah let's get a td first after oh yeah and like at one point we went on he like brought us on the ferry across to go to like toronto island i think this is random nolan was like yo we should like go to toronto island and go to the beach and we're like fuck yeah that sounds sick like let's do that and then we like go over take the ferry over go to the beach chill um drink some monsters hang out on the beach and then like uh we take the ferry back and then And like at one point, like Matt was like, oh, I got to like check on what the like crew is doing, like the like monster like skaters.
42:13And like he had them on like a GPS like tracker on his phone. And like we're like, oh, what's Nija up to? And he was like at like Sky Dome and we're like trying to guess what trick he was doing on the rail or something.
42:25Like and then, yeah, we ended up like going there. and then like after he was like do you guys want to go to like dinner with like niger and stuff i think some other like there was like dominic walker was there matt berger just like people that were out there for the contest to like people that skated for monster um at like the bun jam like at the contest so he like brought us to dinner and we're like yeah that sounds sick look let's go to dinner and then so yeah the dinner was just like jake johnson nolan matt bennett And then like in the other booth was like Nigel, like kind of like not looking at us.
43:02He was like in his own booth, like with his like back to us and like, wouldn't it really say much. He was kind of just like in his like little own booth with like Dominic and Matt Berger. But like Matt Berger and Dominic were like talking to us, but Nigel like wasn't even like saying anything to us. We just kind of like introduced ourselves to him. But then he just like stayed in his little corner, like not looking at us or talking to us. But I think like Matt just wanted to like hang out with us that day or something because like i don't know he just wanted to like skate around and stuff and like see the city and yeah but then he ended up like buying us most expensive steaks on the menu that had like gold flakes on top of them we ended up holding these gold steaks and like i remember it's like it's just really crazy because i was like looking over it was just like jake was just like eating the steaks like the gold steaks like oh pretty good pretty good steak so like nolan was there.
43:54I was like, what the fuck is going on right now? Nigel's like back there like just like hanging out. And like Dominic and Matt Berger come over and they're like, oh, this is fucking good steak. Sick. Like, thanks, Matt. So fun.
44:10Davis Torgerson:That's random as hell. Yeah, super random. I wish you guys got a crew photo. That's a pretty iconic assembly. Is that a word? I do have photos of Jake eating the golden steaks and like Nolan stuff. sick so dope i was like this is too crazy i have to document this so you talked about it in your favorite skate moment you recently turned pro for jacuzzi major congrats again uh lifetime achievement so fucking cool um give us a little bit more detail on how it went down uh having your friends there and just uh just what it was like to finally go pro man they flew joey marone and John D 'Lo in because I was like, these are like the people I know a little better at Jacuzzi.
44:58I haven't skated for a super long time, so those are probably the two people I know the best over there. And Jeff Davis, the TM, pulled up, and then Louis isn't allowed in Canada for some reason. I don't know what the backstory is there, but I'm going to have to ask him one of these days. But yeah, Louis is not allowed in Canada, so they hired this actor, paid actor to like pretend to be louis i guess but i had no idea this was happening so like when they like they like we watched my part and stuff they did like a premiere for like my part and then they like louis comes out of nowhere and he's like hey guys i'm louis like where's xander i was like who the fuck is this guy like he looked so familiar like i swear like i've seen him around in montreal before so i was like who the fuck like i thought he was like a skater and then he just like starts making this like really bad speech like i'm louis barletta uh i'm a tourist i switch back smith the handrail blah blah blah and then like he's like we're turning you pros and they're like fucking hands me the board and i was just like this is fucking what the hell is going on right now you didn't know you were turning pro that day i kind of did now I was turning pro because like it kind of got like leaked on like Instagram a little bit like on the sidewalk Instagram they posted like the like uh yeah fall catalog maybe winter catalog I don't know which one it was but it said like new new pro it said like new pro or something and they were kind of like hinting to if I like skated for them for like a year I think it was just like yeah if i like filmed like a welcome part and then um filmed like hd part to like like basically like a pro part that they would like give me a board so it was like i kind of knew that it was like maybe gonna happen but the whole thing it kind of got leaked a little bit where it was like i saw this this instagram post and i was like oh shit it's like i'm pretty sure that's my board oh fuck that's sick it wasn't it wasn't super like i didn't actually know until like kind of right before it but yeah jeff was like oh yeah like just so you know we're like gonna turn you pro and like we should do a premiere for your part and then they like pulled up and like yeah they like gave me the board so it's pretty pretty crazy we hear you're the type of person
47:22Davis Torgerson:that when you're freaking out scared to commit to something uh we have some friends like this they start promising all types of packages or money or you know trying to hype trying to get themselves hyped trick their brain into committing to something now that you're a big baller mr pro are these debts gonna start getting paid because we hear they rarely if ever get have gotten paid in the past yeah i'll like bet like if i don't commit this one right here like i gotta give you 20 bucks or something and then it's like yeah i'll like come kind of close maybe or like maybe i'll bunt or something but i'll be like i'll be like okay next try 40 bucks like if i don't say this on 40 bucks and then it'll get up to like 100 bucks or like 200 bucks and i'm like i'll finally stick on and be like okay uh if i stick this if i land this one the debts are cleared but i'm like the only one making any of these fucking bets people watching are like dude he's losing his mind again what is he doing and i feel like all right if i fucking land this one debt's cleared and everyone's like what even is the debt or the number they're like all right shut up and do it just like a confusion tactic like hurry up you're not alone man i've seen that madness with a few homies for sure but you know dan's the one who told me to ask that because you've probably promised him hella shit over the years but he sent a clip he's the one example but it wasn't just one person you weren't like 20 bucks if i don't try you're like everybody here 20 bucks yeah sometimes i'll get a little carried away it'd be like everyone 100 100 bucks if i don't stick it and i just fucking bunt again yeah you ever skate with jp souza he's the same i did in like copenhagen one time it's pretty funny he's sick he's the exact same if he's trying anything remotely scary it's bets every single try you just need something sometimes to fight the fear of trying something you're like scared of trying you know for sure or a roller coaster yeah that really worked i'm doing that next time like skate a handrail i need to like do something crazy i'll just go to the roller the leviathan again but jt alts i remember watching or listening to his episode and he does the same thing he said he owes like three grand to everybody or something
49:44everybody like a lot of people but dan got like a bunch of shit like he got my fucking nova scotia hat that he like wore like forever because like he really wanted this hat and uh i was like all All right, if I don't stick this one fucking Nova Scotia hat on this try, and then I remember I didn't stick it, so I actually ended up giving him the hat. Takes the hat.
50:07Davis Torgerson:Yeah. You've been known to drop some bars, man, some dope lyrics, and sometimes it even happened on Instagram Live, and I remember being like, what the fuck is Xander saying? But what's the story behind the Instagram Live freestyle or plural? I can't remember if there was multiple. Fuck, was it live? Or was it just a hard post? I can't remember. Might have been live. I think me and Felix, my friend Felix Godin, we were, like, really fucking on when, like, blacked out. And, like, sometimes I think we would just, like, rap and think it was, like, really funny. Like, we'd just, like, film ourselves, like, rapping.
50:49And, like, we didn't, like, really think we were, like, good. We would just do it as, like, a joke. and like I don't know eventually became a thing because we were just like drinking so much and being stupid and like thought it was really funny and then I guess I got like really fucking hammered and ended up like yeah I guess I went on live or something and was like rapping or something or like hard posted it and like a long ass video like five minutes of like rambling like really fun like yeah like really bad like the worst like j-rock from trailer park boys or something and like yeah i remember waking up the next day and someone was like dude what the fuck is this shit like they're like what's with your like rap post like okay was your phone blown up the next day kind of there was just like a lot of comments on like the video like oh shit he's fucking lost his
51:47Davis Torgerson:mind again yeah usually when you see that shit that's actually what happened yeah then people do a health check on you dude yeah make sure the homie's okay i was just drinking too much i like don't even drink anymore that was like pretty much near the end of my like partying because i was just like so self-destructive i would just do shit like that and just wake up and like the shame spiral of doom i was hanging with connor neeson the next day and he's like dude fucking delete that shit like this is the worst wrapping i've ever seen yeah we should have kept it up dude yeah i like put it back it was bad yeah that was definitely the talk of the town for a bit for sure yeah I was like, you had everyone texting each other.
52:35Davis Torgerson:Like, yo, was Xander okay? Did he lose his shit? Xander's rapping again. Yeah, I'll just like fucking start back up now. Friday night, Xander's rapping again. Nate was like, dude, you fucking dusted yourself on Instagram. That is not good for you. Nate would tell you straight up it's so funny because I actually did completely forget about that and I forget which homie reminded me and I was like holy shit I thought you were done for real when that happened but it was a phase basically was came back from the graveyard you gotta go quiet for a bit after that in four years just come back reinvented dude yeah does that still exist can we post a bar from it do you do you have that video no don't hold that up it's too gnarly it's too gnarly it's scary if i saw it now i'd be like traumatized yeah it's max cringe for sure i don't think i have it archived i think i might have deleted it some for sure people like screen recorded it my friend Cody Cormier is like, dude, I got that one on ice if you ever fuck around.
53:57I'm going to text him and get that
53:59Davis Torgerson:shit. One wrong move. I should have never told you. Yeah. Good for him. We're friends. Good for him. I don't ever fucking do anything shitty to him. You can't. I could just post it myself and then just clear the clear the debts all right um back in 2013 you missed a flight to la care to tell us the uh events that led up to this missed flight what happened man um was staying at my brother's house is this like before i had an apartment he was like letting me stay on his couch which is like right when I first got to Montreal because I moved there in like 2012. So in his building, there was like Max Cote and this dude Rasta and like McGraw would always chill at this house too.
54:57And it was just like the weed smoking house. Like, and like, I remember they bought a deep fryer. And it was like fucking deep frying. Basically, I was just deep frying stuff. Smoking weed and deep frying food. I was smoking weed and deep deep frying stuff way too late till like 2 in the morning or something and like thought it was chill and then I remember waking up like I slept through my alarm and missed my flight from deep frying what did you tell Weary? I don't know I think I just said I slept through the alarm I don't think he ever knows I don't think he knows this one he's gonna be pissed ask for that money back
55:39Davis Torgerson:yeah it's okay in the past can you tell us about the time you broke your collarbone in new york what's the story there uh i remember going to new york to skate with brett weinstein he was like filming a static part and he was like oh you should like come come uh stay and like we're staying like mark dunning's house he does like deep dish it's like like video series from Chicago and we were gonna film with Josh Stewart for like static like cuz Brett was filming a static part so he's like you should pull up and like try to get some some clips for the new static video I like didn't drink for like a month it was like I was trying to do like every summer I try to do like dry July cuz I would end up like getting too gnarly in the summers so I'd like try to take some time off drinking in July by just like not drinking for the whole month and like it was like the 28th of of july or something and like i remember going to new york taking the bus to new york and like getting there and like this is like right when white claws first came out and i was like oh like let's get some let's get some white claws it'll be sick like let's just get a couple white claws and i was like all right i was like fuck no dude i like i i can't drink till the the first of august like i'm doing a whole month and he's like no come on like let's get some white claws i was like he like ended up convincing me to like break the like month or whatever so i was like all right fuck it i remember just like getting so fucking drunk because i hadn't drank in a month so it was like it just hit me way harder like after not drinking for like a couple weeks like i didn't expect it so it was like yeah i basically just like blacked out super hard and like yeah we're walking home from the bar and I was like trying to drink out of like a fire hydrant because it was like you know now New York they like have the water like like it's super hot in New York in the summer it's like like 35 degrees so I was just wasted trying to like drink water out of like the fire hydrant how it's like spitting out water like on the sidewalk whatever for some reason because I was just wasted and then I like fell into the fire hydrant because I just had like no balance like shoulder check the fire hydrant and like broke my collarbone and it was like i was like oh fuck like i remember like getting up and uh brett's like dude your shoulder looks like weird because i was like you could probably see the like lump poking out because i was just like wearing a t-shirt or it's like i couldn't move my shoulder and he's i was like oh it's just like it's just he's like it's dislocated like let's try to pop it back in let's try to pop it back in and he was like pulling on it like Pulling on the broken collarbone, like, oh, I almost got it.
58:21And it was not doing anything to help. It was just making it way worse. And he tried to pop my shoulder back in, but it was just a broken collarbone. Bro. I've heard that's such gnarly pain. Yeah, it wasn't that crazy. It healed in a month or two. I didn't even need to get surgery or anything.
58:42Davis Torgerson:Oh, nice. No, my bad. I think it was when your shoulder pops out that's supposed to be crazy pain. I think that's worse. Dude, that waking up the next day must have been brutal. To, that was the worst wake up. When you, like, don't remember right away. Yeah. Kind of, but I remember going to the hospital and got, like, blood tests and everything. And then they, like, said that my insurance didn't cover the cost of, like, the visit. Because it was, like, they said there was, like, alcohol in my blood or something. and then yeah the like insurance company like claimed that they weren't gonna fucking pay for my my hospital visit and it was like two grand or something just to like go in and like get checked out and like get some like tests and like get a little sling yeah that part sucked crazy um can you tell us about the time you're at one of your apartments in the past uh there was a quite the gnarly incident.
59:37Davis Torgerson:What's that story? I was living in Montreal, like kind of close to Tam Tams. I was on the corner of like Cote St. Catherine and Mount Royal in like this like high rise kind of building. My roommate was like into like painting like he's like really into like graffiti. So he like had a bunch of empty spray paint cans kind of piled up like in the house, like in a corner. And I guess he was like cleaning the house like with some like CLR or something like chemical like cleaner. and he like put the rags on top of the pile of spray paint cans and it had like a crazy like it caused like a crazy explosion like a chemical explosion basically that like blew up the apartment like yeah it fucking blew up the apartment and uh just because i think it had something to do with like the heat too because we didn't have like ac it was like 30 classic montreal like summer like 40 degrees like feels like 40 degrees celsius but like the firefighters said it had to do with paint cans and chemical like like a cleaning product like rag on top so it like yeah it caused like a gnarly explosion like it like blew the fucking roof off the apartment and shit we're on like we're on like the 14th floor or something and like it like broke the the neighbor like i remember talking to him after and he's like yeah like it like broke some of my like vinyls like in like the cases like in the sleeves because the explosion was so gnarly like my neighbor like with like yeah he like cracked it and like um yeah i remember like i didn't have a phone plan at the time because i was just like fried and i like wasn't at wasn't home and they probably tried to call me or something to be like yo what the fuck happened to like your apartment like that shit exploded earlier or last night or something like luckily like my roommate wasn't there and I wasn't there because like if either of us was in the apartment when this happened we'd probably be like definitely deaf but also maybe like deceased because of how crazy the explosion was like it was like the fucking i don't know man nuclear bomb who the fuck just piles up spray paint cans in the corner yeah i'm not gonna dare him out she's just pretty crazy and was your cat was somehow not home too right no this is fucked my cat was in the apartment when it happened and somehow he survived like nothing happened to him he like when i came back so like they like kicked my door in basically like with like the firefighters like knocked the door in because like they couldn't get a hold of me or like my my uh roommate so like they like had to like kick the door in and make sure it wasn't like on fire because like someone was like holy shit like the neighbors were like there was just a huge explosion in our building like what the fuck is going on in the roof yeah they like kicked the door and i remember like coming back the next day and be like what the fuck like someone broke into my house like they like knocked my like doorknob and like i remember going in and everything is just like like covered in like water like they have to like spray down your apartment like if there's like a i don't know it's just like protocol they feel like spray everything down so like my mattress got like focused by like the firefighters like all my belongings were like everything i owned was like dusted from like the firefighters just like spraying everything like all my clothes like everything fucking gone so yeah but my cat like somehow survived so luckily that like when I showed up, he was just like in the cupboard, like in the kitchen, completely fine.
1:03:26So I guess he like wasn't in the same room as the explosion. And yeah, I remember taking him to the vet after to be like, is there something like wrong with him now? Like, can he like hear properly? Like, does he have like breathing problems from like inhaling the smoke and stuff? And they're like, no, he's completely fine. Like he's like super healthy. And I was like, this cat is immortal. Yeah, Mr. Kitty. That's awesome. That story's insane, dude. Yeah, that was fucked up. So what's next for Xander Mitchell? Trying to film a part for the Jacuzzi full length for like next year, I think. We'll see what happens with that.
1:04:07We're going to do, I think we're going to go to Australia in March this year. I think they were talking about London. Yeah, that'd be cool. I've never been there. It looks sick. Yeah.

Which skater had the biggest influence on the way you skate? probably my older brother steward just like skating with him every day yeah telling me like what tricks are whack and stuff and like i don't know show me all the videos showed me flip sorry showed me like girl yeah right like we used to download them on like kazah so sick you've got a very very very clean bag of tricks i was re-watching you also have 10 billion video parts which is crazy yeah but one i found one illegal trick probably a bunch of illegal tricks oh i only i only noticed one last night your brother he forgot to tell you no kickflip back 50 body burials that was crazy yeah that's stinking i thought you're gonna say that no i i don't know if i saw that one last night that was so funny though i think you did a line that was like back 5-0 and then kick back 50 body burial so sick stinking um what the hell was that i can't remember um most talented skateboarder on planet earth gustav tonison amazing pick favorite trick nollie flips back tails nice yeah uh hardest trick for you tray flips suck at them straight heel flips too really bad always rocket been trying to work on those for forever they just never i mean i can like land them but they never feel good yeah most illegal trick feeble to 50 50 on a flat bar or like grinds where you grab your board like crook tail grab yeah jess stinky mr lapierre if you're listening you you heard the man favorite clip you've ever gotten maybe like varial heel this set in halifax called the casino stairs it's like a 12 stair it's in this like quicksilver part where i skate to dubstep sick uh worst trend you've been a part of camo bucket hats like the like fucking safari hats that's dope gnarliest trick you've ever witnessed dylan reader did like gap manual at peace park that was pretty crazy oh wow you were there what's the one trick that got away ferial heel nose grind on the pyramid ledge in new york oh like came really close and then oh i just couldn't do it i think i was like sore like soggy board or like just excuses but like i tried to go back in the fall this year but my ankle was like really not feeling good so i couldn't really try it but i'll probably try it i'll try to go back and do it at some point maybe this year not super far away so on that spot.
1:09:08Davis Torgerson:What's the biggest bunt you've ever witnessed? Safer Switch Trey the 5 block in Cote Dinesh. I don't even know what you're talking about. Which one's that one? Oh, the one I claimed? Oh, shit. I've never even been there, dude. It's a bunt. You're claiming it. I mean, it never showed up. Bro. Alright, alright. Now I want to get better and do that. Fuck. It's like Switch Smith all over again. That was a massive claim because I've never been there. But I was just trying to think of an ender. And I'm like, that would be sick. We could take that if you want. Fucking dickhead.
1:09:54What's the last new trick you learned? Front crooks. Just like regular front crooked grinds on ledges. Dream job after skating. retired.
1:10:08That's no job. That's after the dream job. Yeah, exactly. More like team manager, team manager of something. That job seems tough, man. Yeah, but at least you get to skate. Like, I can't really think of much else. This is why I skate, because I didn't want to do a normal job, you know, a normal 9-5.
1:10:29Davis Torgerson:Yeah. Xander's skate rat to the core. Favorite local brand? Pro Skate in Halifax Skate Shop. Yep. Shout out John Swinomer, Nick Moore, and Rob Bell. It's like the second oldest shop in Canada. Yeah. Big shout out. Favorite local skater? Wesley McNeil from Scotia lives here. Shreds. And my neighbor, Emil Previno. Hell yeah. um what's the one sponsor you regret riding for death wish
1:11:11Davis Torgerson:stone cold yeah no explanation just just i mean i skated like they sent me boards for like a year and then they just stopped sending me boards like without saying anything oh so yeah that's the only one I can think of. Fair. Very fair. Favorite teammate ever. Mark Humanick. Sick. Hell yeah. Favorite teammate. Yeah. He's like, let me stay, let's me stay at his house in New York. Yeah, Mark's sick. He shreds and like, he's like good at filming too. Like he's can, we can get footage and like, I don't know. We like both love skating. So just watch skate videos, nerd out on skating. Yeah. Yeah. Super.
1:11:57Davis Torgerson:I enjoyed his part that came out the other day. Yeah, his new part's sick. In Tristan's video, Singer Tower. Yeah, very much enjoyed it. Worst teammate ever. Hugo. Belek. Jeez. I fucking love Hugo, but the last time I saw him, he was just focusing boards at the pro thing and shit and being crazy. Oh, yeah, I saw that, actually. He's getting it. It's like the only one I can think of. Hugo, we love you. Be well. He's going to be pissed. Yeah, I love you, Hugo. Sorry. Worst company. It's going to kill me. Worst company. New Lakai. Yeah. Good call. Great call. You're the first one to get that one.
1:12:53Davis Torgerson:Yeah. yeah i don't even i don't even got words for it it feels very weird seeing it like live on with a completely new team and knowing it's completely different worst trend like gym bro skaters like posting your fucking workouts at the gym like rope swinging the like rope swinging and like jocelyn's my war essentially yeah like the jocelyn shit and I don't want I don't care about your gym workouts I'm sorry that's fair worst style fuck laser Crawford what the fuck is that you don't know I thought I didn't when you said laser I was like where are you going that's that homie's name No, it's the dude's name.
1:13:52Davis Torgerson:He might be pro now, but he's on plan B. He's beast. Make up front blunts and kick front boards. It's like modern day Adam Diet. He's a proffer. That's a good comp. He's got better style than Adam Diet, I'd say. What does he do? He does fucking hard flips. Just wait a minute and then watch this part. He's beast. He's like Googling it. He's straight. I got to see this. Donovan, you got to watch this part. He shares a part with Chris Jocelyn. I think they skate to like he skates to like Marilyn Manson. It's fucking beast. Did he win Tampa? Yeah, I think he won Tampa. He kicked front boards like an 18 stair rail.
1:14:30Oh, I think I recall. He's so beast. You've for sure seen at least a clip on Insta. Yeah, he's in like a jacket when he does the kick front board, right? He's wearing like a jacket. It looks dangerous. Yeah. What a name, dude. He's quite gnarly. He's like a fucking One of the American Gladiators kids
1:14:51Davis Torgerson:Name him Blazer Made to skate Alexander last but not least Who's the last person you want on the sesh Steve Van Doren
1:15:04Davis Torgerson:What the fuck It's like eating fucking hot dogs I have no idea what to expect Not skating Bro You'd rather him be skating Yeah Nah, you cannot disrespect our guy like that. We know you're ex-fans. We're riding with vans around here, baby. Steve, that's crazy, dude. You're welcome on our side any day. Yeah. That's fucked up, man. I can't believe that. What's fair is fair out here, man. It's a new day, man. Someone fucking coming for Steve is crazy, dude. All right. It'll be all right. It'll be fine. That wraps up the interview. Thank you so much for coming on the pod. Absolutely killed it. The stories, the shots.
1:15:51But that Steve shit was one step too far, man. Hell yeah. Thanks for having me. And congrats again on the board, man. Thank you. It's fucking awesome, dude. Thank you. It means a lot. That's wicked. I'm fucking stoked.
1:16:11welcome back to random skater of the week the fastest growing segment on youtube hosted by our good friend davis torgersen and brought to you by mob grip the number one choice of professional skateboarders worldwide just ask safer myself davis and even joe man there's one reason. It's the grippiest, baby. Head down to your local skate shop. It's always available. This week, Joe Face in the building. A lot of chit-chat coming from you over the years. A lot of comments. Safe lets me know. We don't want to have numbers. Haven't exchanged numbers, but we've been hearing a lot from you, man, and now's the time.
1:16:52I group texted us when he was in LA. You never responded. But we haven't been on since. We haven't been on since, no. We haven't been on Here we go. Sorry. You know the rules. I know the rules. In case someone's watching who doesn't know the rules, we're going to try to guess a random skater. I'm going to list clues. They get three guesses. They can put them out at any time and ask questions. Joe, I mean, is this like top three, like high, like moment of your life? No, absolutely not. What is he doing? He's taking notes. No, no take. It's like bottom five moments of my life. It's so not true. Yeah, right.
1:17:35The amount of fucking satellites that have had to send all of your texts regarding random skater of the week. I really love this segment that you guys do. Straight up. It's my favorite thing that you guys do is this. Because I'm a dork and I love skate nerd shit. So this is my favorite thing when it pops up every week. I really enjoy it. This is all Davis, man. stick taps kudos i enjoy the shit talk so it's his creation yeah this is good let's get it man no pressure we have a new rule after last week this is a good good thing to bring up let's clarify the rule if all three guessers run through all three of their guesses everyone gets one more guess everyone's back in um so the person who's left with one remaining has to then make a guess if they're wrong everyone gets three uh another guess okay everyone was back in it that said fucking do this there's been a lot of shit talk before this so i don't think that we'll run into this issue if uh you know we've we've got we just we have a nerd on the show frankly and you're gonna be really excited with the first clue because these previous teammates of this skater include Gino Iannucci, Gilbert Crockett, and Cairo Foster.
1:19:00Oh wow, that's an epic big three right there. All right, I know who it is.
1:19:08I would so eat it and be like, just guess please. No, so Gino Cairo and who's the third one? Gilbert. Gilbert? Yep. This skater was on the independent 30-year anniversary tour. It does nothing. The second clue never should do anything. But this could. This skater got second place at the Vans Downtown Showdown Real Sacto Rebate. Real Sacto Rebate. What the hell is that, dude? Contest in Sacramento. i think they got second right so that's this guy man this skater shared a cover of a magazine with a long border i'm just looking at joe's face just like please don't tell me he looks fired up that reaction was perfect there's a mental oh my god long border um I have an idea.
1:20:21Oh, but I'm trying to place a third teammate. Okay. Oh, fuck. So keep going. Okay, we'll keep the covers going because this skater never skated for Alien Workshop, but this skater had a cover skating a workshop board. Hmm.
1:20:42Davis Torgerson:Fuck's sake, Sam. Okay, they just threw up. Just threw up my guests. So that's your guest for workshop. No, it wasn't somebody that skated for the workshop, but I don't think this person would have ever come across a workshop board. Unless, no, he skated for workshop. Okay, keep going.
1:21:07Speaking of covers, this skater has had two covers at the exact same spot.
1:21:16Davis Torgerson:oh that's fucking gangsta i can ask a question you can ask it street spot street spot interesting yeah yeah can i make my first guess anytime no you have to wait yeah joe joe has to wait till 10 clues in say and don't say and don't get uh five clues in. What was that? Alex Olsen. He's a nerd. It's Alex Olsen. Safeo, suck it, dude. What? I had it on the teammates. I'm telling you, I had it on the teammates. Oh, shit. I wasn't even close to that. What were the covers? What was the spot? It was the spot in LA, the bank to rail off Fairfax. Yeah, he front 50'd it on the cover of a skateboarder. This is like before he was like on Lakai and shit.
1:22:15And then he back 50'd it going up for a trans old cover. And I think Ben shot both of them. Did he? It's fucking bullshit, man. It's too short. Alex Olsen, the fake homie. That was really short. My next clue, would you guys have gotten it off of, according to this skater's Wikipedia, this skater lived with gons and fed his cats. No, that's awesome. Damn it. I should have. The skater designed a collection for Uniqlo. Did he really? That's cool. Do you remember, do you guys remember Zared had like a Uniqlo campaign? That was a clue in Zared's random skater. Yeah, it was, I remember it was like all over New York City, like Zared, all over like buses and shit like that.
1:22:58All previous teammates are with shoe brands. Gino, Nike, Gilbert Vans, Cairo Lakai. this skater originally went by a different last name Parker Parker was on flow for both Toy Machine and Baker back in the day though never skated for Crooked had a part in a Crooked video in Nar Nar guest trick in Jason Dill's skate more part damn it really all right hindsight 2020 that would have been or some of these would have been higher damn so it was the covers that it was over at the covers it was it was the covers and honestly when they named teammates i went straight to somebody because gilbert gilbert would have had to have been vans and then or or fallen yeah but like gino would have been on nike and i'm like all right who did vans and nike alex had both and then the third is cairo and i'm like well that was kind of it and then the independent thing i after you said the independent thing i was like okay it might be hewitt because hewitt I think rode for a lot of the same companies as those three, but they wouldn't have been shoe companies, but I didn't say they were all companies.
1:24:05No, but I'm saying like in terms, like I couldn't place the third, like the third sponsor that would have made sense for Hewitt too. And then when you said street spot, I was like, well, Pete, Pete wouldn't have had covers as street spots. Yeah. I mean, yeah. Damn. Genius. That was a very strong showing. You went straight to companies for all those, which is interesting. Cause it's like Gilbert road for multiple board brands, Gino multiple board brands. That's fair. Whatever. Yeah, shit. Well done. Who was the skater that
1:24:33Davis Torgerson:you were giving clues for? Oh, Joe, we did it, man. You didn't win. Yeah, fuck you, Saifu. Yeah, yeah. I gotta chirp you back, though. Your clue... I think you did clues one time, right? For Davis last season? The switch flip front lip. Yo, get the fuck out of here with that bullshit. What was that clue? Name more... I don't remember Clive Dixon doing a switch, and I don't know anybody else besides Ellington who did it. Yeah, I don't know anybody else. What was the clue? It was like only two people? Switched depth. I said one of three, I think. Whatever it was. I could name two, and Davis and I talked about it.
1:25:07I was like, I can't name anybody else. I don't think Clive did it. Maybe he did. That was a really good skater for Wheatley to get, right? Oh, yeah. Wheatley got it easy for him. He got on a cover thing, too. Yeah, because he was sending them boards every time. so maybe you do get to come back now. Oh, yeah, that's great. Maybe I can get an episode now. I'll work on my family. All right, fine, fine, fine, fine. Just kidding. He might be our two seed behind Ted. I should, man. Wait, which Ted? Schmidt or DeGro? I've got to find this fucking switch flip front lip, man. Barrow. Ellington's is in Baker as a Death Wish, and Antonio's is in his trans world thing, and I don't, like I said, if Clive did it, I don't know anybody, like, then that's three.
1:25:52I don't know anybody else. I'm trying to, like, find the clues. I'm looking back. Vincent Malou, Felipe Gustavo might have both done them. Switch flip front lips. Oh, Felipe. It's possible. It's possible. He's a switch flip front tail guy. I don't know if he did his lip. Tail's different.
1:26:10Davis Torgerson:No, I know tail's different. I never had that clue written down for Antonio. Did I say it? Or was I maybe like afterwards when I said Joe Face had the clues, I had mentioned like some other ones that he gave me? maybe i don't remember but i'm almost positive but i mean again could be wrong yeah i can't remember but hearing it now i'm like this and i was a weird clue it's memorable enough that not that many people have done maybe we should have rephrased the question and been like one of the few people yeah for your fuck up there you're gonna have to help me get more clues again
1:26:48i'm gonna try and find it one in a while now man yeah i mean man i'm happy hey listen i'm happy that i got i got to do this and had a strong showing i think it's the amount of shit talk that i did to say for that made me nervous more than anything because it was like pretty relentless for a long time so but now it just continues yeah he might actually hate me at the end of this but
1:27:07Davis Torgerson:it was all fine now no fucking that was impressive i'm not a sore loser that was that was impressive knowledge i had no clue so i respect it it's annoying when you when you like just lose barely when you're like starting to put it together and someone says it before you yeah yeah zero idea there yeah that wasn't close i thought we were like two clues away until someone would have started to get a hint but that was that was nerdy that was very nerdy I'm going to ask Clive right now Yeah, text him I ran This will be safe as wind For the week
1:27:49I'm not saying he didn't do it I just can't remember I remember Clive doing that He went all the way around Which I guess most people do He would do a lot of front big spin lifts Which is crazy Two of the most sackable trips
1:28:05Davis Torgerson:Oh, Clive says, I've done it a couple times. I win, motherfucker. That's right, bitch. Westchester Rail. The one who's going off the rails. I got to get my show back under control here, man. What the hell is happening here? Sorry I phrased the question wrong for Davis' show that he should have fixed the question. I don't know. It's unforgivable. Clive, switch flip front lip all day. Sorry I did free work that day for your show. My bad. I'm not complaining. I'm also looking back at my clues and it's not that clue isn't in there. So I mean, I remember you guys talking about it and Wheatley being like, that's a stupid claim or something like that.
1:28:46I was like, I don't know, dude, whatever. I can't remember that. I can't remember that many people. Really? Yeah, I mean, like, whatever. Sorry, Clive. Well, my bad. Joe, you came, you saw, you conquered. Congratulations. Thanks, bro. The true skate nerd prevailed, man. hey look i'm happy to start 26th this way thank you for inviting me it was a pleasure no problem yeah now uh safer we we know he did it we believe you now everyone knows that if you just text if you text it you can get on the get on i need to see it i don't know why he's doing this right now
1:29:22Davis Torgerson:just send a link well richie just put it in there but i just want to see it for myself right now fucking G shit. All right. Beautiful mutants, I think. If we ever have this winner's tournament, you'll be in there. Oh, Joe's in there. Put me against Mason. Whoa.
1:29:45Oh, he went back to switch? That was regular. That was regular. I was about to be like, what? He hits the mandem with the one-two punch, you dig? He did the shit out of that, too. Oh my god, I gotta take my spot wins where I can get them these days. You guys are arguing about a clue that wasn't even said.
1:30:07I'm not arguing. Obviously. I'm taking my wins where I can get them. I'm taking too many errors these days, man. Alright. You gotta change your mentality, homie. You're the one who came in and said, I'm gonna lose, I'm gonna lose. Get the fuck out of here. Yeah, I switched it up. Yeah, I get some marks for that. dono hyped me up and honestly like it was really just in case i did lose i said it but i knew i was gonna fuck you
1:30:35Davis Torgerson:but that's the softest shit i've ever heard i'm trying to be nice man i don't know whatever all right y 'all we'll be right we're done you conquered you've got mail welcome back to the post office brought you by our good friends over at dickie skateboarding quality workwear since 1922 from the work site to the streets ain't nobody keep you fitted like dickies man all right ghost we back who we got up first all right uh that's like a post office regular here uh i'm gonna talk wayland petromal pets do you guys have any pets if not do you one that you cherish from when you were younger no pets over here the pet that we had the longest was our cat cc can't remember how many years but probably just shade under 20 i'd love i'm i'm a cat person for all the people that make a big deal out of dogs or cats it's just less maintenance i I like dogs and shit, but I'm not a pet person for the most part.
1:31:51Yeah, I remember Cece when she was just a little kitten. They're cute as hell when they're kittens, and then they go fucking crazy, man. I had a cat, too, growing up named Mittens, and that thing was fucking nuts, dude. That was like half indoor, half outdoor vibes. Yeah, same. No pets right now, but my son's story is begging for one. um the problem is he's allergic he's allergic to like dog and cat hair like it not like bad but he's like you know people get like itchy and kind of nasally and shit like that so he wants a hamster instead but like in a way there's a hamster coming in here bro like those things are fucked dude um i told him he could have a fish but a fish isn't good enough so now he's uh he's uh bargaining for a snake he wants to have a pet snake in the house what do you think about that
1:32:45Davis Torgerson:i think that's pretty cool i feel like i would have been too scared especially at that age even now that snake like creeps me out a little bit they're cool as hell though but i was never one to like like touching reptiles i know the problem is his cousin you know how like when you're young you like adore your older cousins they're like the coolest people in the world his one cousin is like a fisherman and like such not a city kid but he has like turtles and reptiles and snakes and all sorts of this shit at his house so story thinks it's like you know normal days he's like yeah we'll just get a snake it's chill we're like you know how about we just get nothing and continue on the way we are you know but i think there will be a pet so you're more down for a snake you're more than what a hamster yeah for sure i think hamsters stink dude and i don't think they live very long which is i don't think we need to deal with that heartache at such a young age you know
1:33:50yeah so i think just get nothing yeah exactly or like i'd be down for a little fish did you ever have a fish yeah for sure never lasts long either yeah that's the other problem so i don't know we'll see uh tbd man tbd but no no cats no dogs especially while we're in the city maybe if we move out of the city have a backyard or something like that we'll get a dog but we'll see cool email never thought of that alright next up we have an email from an absolute legend Mitch Barrett what's up you bunting buntholes miss you boys love everything y 'all do and please don't ever ever stop keep doing that shit for the people still y 'all have had an incredible life so far if Hollywood was making a movie about your lives what actor would you want playing you and why me personally I'd want Jeremy Allen White because I thought he was a G in the show The Bear reminded me of myself yo that's actually like a pretty good call on his behalf I could see Jeremy Allen White playing a great Mitch Barrett I like that I like that
1:35:13Davis Torgerson:I've never thought about this question ever so might have to do some brainstorming on the fly do you have one that comes to mind? yeah I mean I would go Cillian Murphy that was my first thought the star of Peaky Blinders oh okay I spelled his name completely wrong there I think that could work you know you could be a stunt double for skateboarding yeah whatever works it all needs stunt doubles but i think like when i read mitch's i was like i don't want to um uh disappoint so i thought about it a little bit and i think that would be a good fit i mean the accent would be off but they're actors right they can fix that up
1:36:09my first thought for you was dwayne the rock johnson what the f what i thought that would be epic
1:36:19Davis Torgerson:um the first one that came to mind i'd have to think about this longer to get the perfect person but this one would be fine actually pretty good uh from our our show even though i'm a duchene man I gotta go with Kano aka Kane Brett Robinson who plays Dully gotta find a light skin man damn he's got a better his hairline is still exists dude that's pretty good though that's pretty good but holy shit Kano that's a great one thanks Mitch great to have dude what an epic one alright last email of the week we need more emails y 'all we're back don't forget it flood the inbox I think we came back too soon this time dude the emails didn't build up like they usually did we got an email from the one and only dying penis aka Phil Mendelsohn Sefa Dono Yash live to be sneaked I was gonna come in here chirping about how Donald put up the worst trade I've ever seen in fantasy this year but and then it's in quotations as much as I love talking shit about you or to you DJ my hat's off to you I'm them have like seven fantasy league wins throughout football and ball I can't deny fast but he ends it with he ends it with shout out for the glory hole goat there's not even a question there it's just a couple comments I don't know what that was but we can break down that trade and like go ahead no no you go ahead I was just like Phil you got a question for the inbox and he sends me I didn't even realize there's no question there I guess you just wanted to roast our boy Joel still in his head man give me one word to describe phil mendelson's um fantasy management skills
1:38:39Davis Torgerson:everything i'm thinking of is two words to emphasize how terrible it is but do two two words then man
1:38:50god-awful dog i got i got four words man eliminated from the playoffs he's used to that.
1:39:03Davis Torgerson:Next year, Phil. So, yeah, we're talking. Yeah, we're talking fantasy football in the run, in the post office. This is a problem. People, get your emails, voice notes, videos over to thebuntliveatgmail.com. Let's hear from you, man.
1:39:28Welcome back to the Rundown, the skateboard world source for sports. Ghost, we're picking up right where we left off last week, man. We're heading into the Super Bowl here. At the end of this, we're going to make our final, final predictions. We're going to go game winner and MVP. But first, we got a lot of coaching changes to talk about, man. Lots. And two that we've been waiting on, maybe not for a long time, but there's been speculation. The Steelers and the Ravens part ways with Tomlin and Harbaugh. Thoughts on letting both of them go?
1:40:05Davis Torgerson:Well, Tomlin stepped down. But I think Harbaugh, that was a no-brainer. That team didn't even make the playoffs and then put that on top of all the devastating playoff losses. I don't know how this—good coach or not, I don't know how the same person can come back and motivate that team. And it just feels like failure after failure. So hopefully it works out for both of them. Hopefully he goes to the Giants and kills it. And hopefully their new coach can put them over the top. Because that team devastation pretty much every year. Well, the new coach in Baltimore, Jesse Minter. um thoughts the former bears offensive well who is he where is he from i don't even know i don't remember i feel like that that's like a bit out of our depth we're uh we're not casual fans but we're not mega nerds either like you know when they bring in the coordinators and shit there's only a few coordinators that are superstars where we're like oh that's guaranteed to work i don't know i don't remember what jesse minter's coaching status was before but uh i'm just excited for i feel like ravens fans should be excited like i the same as steelers fans in a way like tomlin's sick and i have mad respect for him but both franchises just needed something new yeah i feel like they were never really gonna go with the rebuild with Tomlin still there well that's that's the biggest disappointment is like when Tomlin stepped down on my okay maybe the Steelers finally got it through their stick their thick skulls their reset and then they go and make one of the least exciting coaching hires of all time 62 year old Mike McCarthy who won a Super Bowl in 2010 with Aaron Rodgers and now he's talking about they're trying to bring aaron rogers back in 2026 no they're not please bro please do they are in this press conference they asked him and they're like would you want aaron back and he's like of course like oh please put us out of our misery like the history of the steelers i think they hired three coaches in their 30s out of nowhere like guys who weren't like established Mike McCarthy types and they had tremendous success like picking finding these like really smart young guys and then rocking with them for like 20 years so this fucking the Rooney I think he's the son of like the legendary pops or something Art Rooney yeah I think is the guy now and Stephen A is just going off on him because it's like yo who do you think you are telling Steelers fans to like chill we got this and I couldn't agree more I'm like yo mike mc like he's a double retread like i remember how frustrating it was watching the packers towards the end of him there before the floor came they just they were like an antiquated offense then he went to dallas and they had some success in the regular season but come playoffs like they i think they won one game like so and now what he's 62 he's still obese like what like what the fuck does this guy bring to the table got to do with it bro what the fuck what's that all i don't know man like bringing a young if you're bringing in an old head like that bring in like you know pete carroll who can still run around but even that like pete carroll's way too old that was a disgrace why we what's up with these you want the coach involved eh all right i feel i want like a mike lafleur lafleur fucking uh shanahan And like these guys in the 30s, 40s.
1:44:07Davis Torgerson:Yeah, fucking, you know what I'm saying? Motivating the troops. And we just need to fucking bottom out. How many years have I been saying this? It's disgraceful. Dude, they just need to not draft a quarterback, not sign one. Just go with whoever's there and have a painful, painful 2026 season. That's it. One, like one year, maybe two. Sort it out, man. It's not that big of a deal. Um, staying in the division, the Cleveland Browns also fire their head coach, Kevin Stefanski. They hired Todd Munkin. I got this one right. Former Ravens offensive coordinator gets a chance to be the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
1:44:48Um, the Cleveland Browns just doing Cleveland Browns things here, man.
1:44:54Davis Torgerson:Yeah. You see Miles Garrett tweet like he's tired or something like that. he's just like are you kidding like that's another mike mccarthy kind of hire where it's like there's no excitement there's no vision no one wanted that job yeah yeah um so many people pulled their name out of the hat for that job so they settled um yeah i remember you were laughing because zach taylor's the only one who survived this makes no sense division zach taylor and he's They're so cheap. That division is fucking hilarious. Like a comedy. So Kevin Stefanski gets fired from the Browns, but he's still in every coaching, hiring, interview schedule.
1:45:42Still a pretty sought-after head coach. One coach of the year at one point. He goes, gets the head job in Atlanta. Pretty good job to have. Some nice talent there. There's still question marks between quarterbacks. But other than the quarterbacks, everything seems to be, they've played some great games down the stretch. Maybe the best player in football, Bijan. Thoughts on Stefanski landing in Atlanta? I like it, but that's a team not too different from Cleveland where the quarterback position is just so not secure.
1:46:22Davis Torgerson:I think Michael Penix had his fourth or fifth knee surgery or something. And I heard that they're probably going to release Kirk Cousins. So Michael Penix, I mean, we need more of a sample size, but he was very up and down, which is frustrating because that team just seems like if they somehow had Jaden Daniels or something like that, they're just ready to go. Their defense was decent this year, and their offensive weapons are next level. So we'll see. I think it'll be good for Bijan. Stefanski loves using his running backs. That's a shit ton. I think it's an improvement on the offense. Yep. The Dolphins fire their head coach.
1:47:03They hire Jeff Halfley, Packers defensive coordinator, as their next head coach. Dude, it was a wonderful start for McDaniel in Miami and then just slowly faded away.
1:47:20Davis Torgerson:You know what? I probably won't be able to find it, but I saw a crazy stat because you know how everyone's like Mike McDaniel, like offensive genius, like Justin Herbert through the moon, which I agree. It should be way better than what we've seen. But I saw a stat that was like Mike McDaniel's offensive ratings. Like every year he was there and they were brutal. It was like I think he was top five once or twice. And every other year he was in the 20s. and then like if you look at it probably everything has to do with two of getting injured so many times and all the backup qds but it was a pretty like shocking thing to see where you just associate him with like offensive excellence it's a genius that wasn't really the case but i don't know shit about that that new coach yeah well who knows what's gonna happen there they're going defensive as opposed to offensive so hopefully the switch works out for So Mike McDaniel wins in L.A.
1:48:22with Herbert, like you said. I mean, anytime you get a head coach moving to coordinator, an offensive line should help Herbert. I don't think their problems are with Herbert and the play calling. I think they're with protecting Herbert. But we'll see what happens there. The Eagles hire another new offensive coordinator. I thought the head coach should have been gone there. But Sean Mannion comes in and takes over. Former Packers QB coach. So the Packers coordinators and coaches are getting picked off left, right, and center. Bill LaFleur stays. He's got to hire a new staff. Tennessee, they get Salah and Dable.
1:48:57A little one-two punch. Hopefully, they get a little bit better. Cam Moore does their thing. The Buffalo Bills fire Sean McDermott with no one left to hire at this point. Absolutely bonehead move, but they had to do something different. So they promote OC Joe Brady. who's been doing the media rounds this last week, even popped up on a Toronto radio station at one point. He's ready to get the team fired up and that he's ready to bring a championship to Pagula and Allen because they deserve it. Just please God, you know, it's not the coaching. It's the goddamn roster. And for the most part in big games, Josh Allen's Josh Allen's decision-making like for Christ's sake yeah how does Bean keep his job when he's the one that can't deliver a team anyways you see the absolute just mistreatment of Keon Coleman like to have the owner come out talking that shit about a young player like that it's just shit you don't want to see those are conversations you have in an office not in front of a camera and a microphone like turned into a shit show there that was brutal i'm not even i don't even like think keon coleman's dope i'm not a fan no but
1:50:23Davis Torgerson:um and clearly he's unprofessional showing up late and shit but that made me feel bad for him i'm like damn you got me feeling bad for keon coleman like you really fucked up he seems like a really nice guy and he's funny and i've seen his press conferences and stuff like seems like a great guy but as a player i'm just like i just find him slow doesn't create much separation and drop some untimely drops and shit. I'm like, whatever. He's not elite, but yeah, you're 100 % right. You can't talk about your second-year receiver like that. Don't make the young player the scapegoat. He's barely even playing, for Christ's sake.
1:50:59Take the ownership on yourself as the owner and the GM. You know what I mean? That's actually pathetic. But tough job to take. You come in there as Joe Brady, as the head coach now, and like what impresses the fan base is like if you win the super bowl only like what other choice does he have that's going to be like a good season they make it to the super bowl and lose that's just pure agony like you have to just win now you know i think making the super bowl would be
1:51:31Davis Torgerson:even if they lost would be you know that's heartbreaking but next step yeah but either way either result if they make it it's a successful season i'd say and obviously harbaugh goes to the giants um even before they got harbaugh i was super excited about watching the giants next year with dart scatabot and neighbors and now having harbaugh um dude the giants might have something here i i didn't get that excited i obviously want them to be good because i'm gonna keep jackson dart in our keeper league but um i'm just too used to the the ravens devastation but that's a playoff thing so i mean obviously in the regular season but also all those double digit leads he's lost in the fourth quarter like it's i'm sure he's a great coach but there's something just missing with him for me where I didn't I wasn't like over the moon like I feel like some Giants fans are so hype but I think like you know you're in the same organization for so long there's a little bit of complacency and lack of excitement but like the Ravens are trying to win a Super Bowl the Giants are trying to make the playoffs there's a very like different like target here for each of them so I think Harbaugh can get them to the playoffs and get the Giants playing some exciting football um last one there's all sorts of other stuff that happened okay this quick question um just to spin fantasy in for a second i'm gonna keep jackson dart in whatever round and then in our league you have sam darnold i think in the ninth or tenth but you also have cam hayward and speaking of more new coaches there no just ward cam ward cam ward um yeah what do you what do you think i keep is it do you believe in that coaching staff and like them taking a step and keeping cam ward or do you stick with sam darnold who's like who's solid but he doesn't have the most upside for fantasy uh i'm just keeping sam darnold like down there there's like i don't need to take a risk you know maybe it's tough but I've been going back and forth with it we'll see like if you know maybe the titans go out and get a wide receiver and a tight end and a running back and I'm like whoa I believe in this offense and a young player lots of upside but I went and got Donald at the end of the year to have something safe down there at the bottom of the draft obviously prefer Jackson Dart he was my first target the only worry with Jackson Dart is him getting hurt but like that's the worry with anybody you know what I mean you can't not go after someone especially that young just because he's a little reckless so you want me to rank Jackson Dart 1 Darnold 2 I was just curious because the three new coaches yeah It was a shit show there.
1:54:45He played good, man, at the end of the year. At the end. But he just needs weapons. So if the weapons come in the offseason, Cam Ward might edge him out. But for right now, I'm sticking with the safety play in Darnold. He's going to be a Super Bowl winner. Comes with a lot of confidence, man. Yeah. Okay, last one about the coaches. Your man, Mike Tomlin, has said he's taken a year off. A team will have to trade for him to get him, I think, if they wanted him this year. I'm not sure about next year. Not the first time we've seen that. We saw the Broncos trade for Sean Payton. I think they gave up two picks to get Sean Payton.
1:55:27Obviously paid off. Who do you think needs Mike Tomlin the most? Damn.
1:55:38Davis Torgerson:That's a great question. Probably one of those scrub-ass teams. I don't know if he would want to stay Imagine he stayed in the division Went to the Bengals or something The Raiders The Raiders need a complete Change of Culture A little culture change down there Vegas would help them Yeah I mean Arizona could use them The Jets, the Raiders Washington No one's going to the Jets No one will save the Jets ever yeah and the bangles but i feel like he i don't think he's the type to stay in division get rid of that no bum ass too close that taylor
1:56:26Davis Torgerson:who's the cowboys coach right now again that would be shot inheimer but oh yeah there was this is might have been a record there was like 10 head coaching vacancies and uh this would have been a great year to be a free agent coach like tomlin but we'll see who's available in a year or two and i'm sure he'll be like the number one sought after guy yeah i saw a picture of him like his daughter's gymnastics and it was like mike tomlin like just enjoying his daughter's gymnastics looking like he had a good night's for the first time in 20 years and you could actually see it on his face he just looked like much better the gray hairs evaporating going back away oh man all right super bowl prediction it's next weekend and then the season is over um wild season it's been i've never been more unclear of who was the best team in the league for so long i still don't think there is a best team in the league.
1:57:28It's just week after week. Teams are showing up. I do think that the New England Patriots have had the easiest path to a Super Bowl ever. Like, bar none. And they get Sam Darnold now, which if you had told me that a couple years ago, I would bet on anyone to beat Sam Darnold. But now Sam Darnold is a player. So who's it going to be?
1:57:59Davis Torgerson:I'm going to go with the Seahawks, but there's always that Sam Darnold fear in the back of your mind. As soon as you go all in on him, he might have a dud. And I don't think it's wrong to feel that way, because when you watch someone's career all these years, they turn around like this is a pretty magical turnaround he's had the last two years. So it's sometimes hard to fully buy in. But yeah, I don't know. There's a bit of fraud alert feeling watching the Patriots kind of like get to the Super Bowl. But I would, they have an opportunity to shut everyone up too who's counting them out. So I just hope it's a good game and I give the edge to the Seahawks.
1:58:40Davis Torgerson:Better on both sides. And your MVP?
1:58:48Davis Torgerson:Sam Darnold. Fairytale ending to the season. Yeah, I'm going to go Seahawks. but I'm going to go JSN for MVP. I think Sam Donald's going to do everything he can to get that ball out of there quick. It's going to land in JSN's hands a lot. I think Kenneth Walker's going to have a lot to say. And I don't think that it's going to be or like a foregone conclusion that the Seahawks are winning this game. I think Vrabel and Drake May are going to make an absolute game of it and they can definitely come away with the win. But the Seahawks defense is just something else this year and they're healthy. It seems like the Seahawks team, they lost Charbonnet, but they're a healthy team.
1:59:28They're hungry. They got three good wide receivers like Cooper Cup as the third option. That's not bad at all. I'm going with the Seahawks, man. Nice.
1:59:43Davis Torgerson:Don't feel strongly either way. I'm not jumping on any wagons, but I'm just on a good game. I'm also not that excited to watch because I would usually love to see some star power in the Super Bowl. You know, one of those big quarterbacks or a big quarterback matchup would have been nice, but we're a long way from Mahomes in the Super Bowl. It feels like we haven't seen him play in three months, man. Yeah. Next year. All right, y 'all. That's going to wrap up the rundown and wrap up this episode for this week. Get your emails, voice notes, videos into thebuntlive at gmail.com. and we'll see y 'all after the Super Bowl
