---

Key Concepts and Arguments

  1. Understanding Procrastination
  2. Definition: Procrastination is described not just as idle delay, but as "productive procrastination," where individuals engage in busy work instead of taking decisive action.
  3. Consequences: It is identified as a "silent killer" of deals, dreams, and progress in the acquisition space.
  1. Real-Life Example
  2. Whipple shares a story of a mentee who spoke to 50 chairman prospects, all of whom declined his proposals.
  3. The mentee expressed his intention to wait a couple of weeks before making further moves, highlighting a common mindset of inaction.
  1. The Impact of Inaction
  2. Whipple stresses that results are directly linked to actions taken (or not taken).
  3. Waiting for the "right time" is ineffective; rather, he argues that immediate action is essential.
  4. Cites Einstein’s definition of insanity: doing the same thing repeatedly while expecting different results.

Challenges of Procrastination

  • Loss of Opportunities: Deals can be seized by competitors, leading to missed chances for growth.
  • Erosion of Confidence: Procrastination can lead to a decreased sense of self-efficacy over time.
  • Tolerance of Mediocrity: Delaying action trains individuals to accept less than their potential.

---

The Call to Action

  • Whipple encourages listeners to take immediate action, reiterating that:
  • There is no "perfect" time for action.
  • Success is often achieved through "imperfect action."
  • Failing is part of the journey to success; one must be willing to learn and adjust.

Challenge for Listeners

  • Make "Someday" Today:
  • Contact a chairman prospect.
  • Schedule meetings with bankers.
  • Engage with potential sellers.
  • Join Whipple's program if hesitating.

Quote to Remember

  • "Someday is a day of the WEAK!"

---

Conclusion Bruce Whipple concludes that procrastination is detrimental not only to time management but also to the overall success in business acquisition. He advocates for immediate action, framing it as essential for personal and professional growth.

0:00Hi, it's Bruce Whipple, and today I want to talk about something I see over and over again with business acquisition and acquisition entrepreneurs. and that is procrastination. It's a silent killer of deals, dreams, and progress. And I don't mean the obvious kind of procrastination where you sit on a couch watching a football game or Netflix. I mean the productive procrastination, which is doing busy work, thinking about what you should do and telling yourself you'll act when the time is right. Well, guess what? Now is the time that's right. And just recently, I had a mentee tell me that since May of this year, he's spoken to 50 chairman prospects and every single one said no.

0:51And then he said something that really caught my attention. He said, I think I'll give it a couple of weeks and see if anything changes before I join your program. Well, here's the truth. Nothing will change in the next couple of weeks unless you change. The results you've been getting are a direct result of the actions you've been taking or not taking. And if you keep doing the same thing, you're going to get the same results. It's not bad luck. It's just math. This is a numbers game in large part. Einstein called doing the same thing over and over while expecting a different result, the definition of insanity.

1:31I would call it a slow death for acquisition entrepreneurs. Procrastination just doesn't steal time. It steals opportunity. Deals get scooped up by other people. Board candidates move on. Bankers lose interest. And most importantly, your confidence erodes. Every day you delay action is a day you're training yourself to tolerate mediocrity. You don't need to wait for the perfect time. There is no perfect time. There is no perfect chairman. There is no perfect deal or law firm or financial institution. And the people who succeed in acquisitions and in life are the ones who take imperfect action.

2:14They learn from their mistakes and they adjust quickly. I frequently say you will fail your way to success. So here's a challenge for you. If you've been sitting on the sidelines waiting for someday, make someday today. I saw a quote recently that said someday is a day of the week, but it wasn't spelled W-E-E-K. It was spelled W-E-A-K. Send that email to a chairman prospect. Pick up the phone and call that seller you've been thinking about, schedule a banker's meeting, send an email, write a letter, join my program if you've been waiting. The momentum you build will change everything. I've seen it hundreds of times.

3:01Action cures fear, and it also kills procrastination. So remember, procrastination is the thief of time and opportunity. Don't give it another day of your life. You don't get time back, and the cost of waiting is far higher than you think. So take action today. You will thank me and yourself sooner than you might think.
