In short

Elisabetta Torretti’s “Fast and Curious” rapid-fire Q&A on personal branding, starting over in a new country, and founder visibility online.

Guest background

Elisabetta Torretti is a founder/leader who advises founders; she’s also a tennis fan (mentions Yannick Senna) and draws on her own experience starting a company from scratch.

Key claims

ignore toxic “cheat sheets”; starting over means a fresh start but also losing your network and language; founders should “own your experience” and overcome imposter syndrome by sharing their story; if measuring self-worth by metrics, stop checking.

Notable examples

advice for “invisible online” founders; her morning espresso; power walks for unwinding; a weird DM asking to be her “sugar mommy” and proposing a detailed stay-at-home husband plan.

0:00Elisabetta Torretti:Elisabetta, how are you ready for your fast and curious? I guess I have to be. You've got no choice, you've got no choice. What's one personal branding rule you completely ignore? Cheat sheets. Cheat sheets? Yeah, I actually don't really like cheat sheets. I mean, I can like the good, meaningful one, but not the, I don't know, the toxic bosses type of thing. Yeah, that's huge. What's the best thing about starting over in a new country? That you start from scratch. you have fresh start and that's not really guaranteed in life so it's a blessing what's the worst thing about starting over in a new country?

0:35that you start from scratch

0:36Elisabetta Torretti:which means that you don't know anyone no people, no friends nothing most of the time you don't know the language which is a different level of complexity how proud were you that Yannick Senna won Wimbuden? so proud I watched them all also because my niece, she's a tennis player she's nine, she's a tennis player so she's a big fan of him. It's a great, great match. What's the best advice you've given to a founder who feels invisible online? Own your experience. A lot of people trying to sell nothing out of thin air but most of the founders that come to me, they have huge experience, huge leadership leverage but they don't want to talk about it because they feel like imposter syndrome.

1:19So forget the imposter syndrome and go out there. Own your story. Yeah, own your story.

1:25Elisabetta Torretti:What's your go-to morning drink? Espresso. Oh, wow. Straight in. No sugar. Yeah, it's the first thing I drink. Big hit. Which I know is not good because I should drink water for that, but no. If LinkedIn had a no-fluff filter, how much content would disappear? 75%. That would be big, wouldn't it? What's your guilty pleasure TV show? Succession, The Morning Show. What's your power song before a big talk or post? Oh, my God. Which one is the Britney Spears one? you better work so that pushed me a lot to do work out to do anything if you had to give a ted talk on something totally unrelated to your job what would it be i think maybe the power of starting from scratch i think that's been again like a very like pattern in my in my career so it is my job because i started a company from scratch but it's not just that anyone can start from scratch without starting our company.

2:23Elisabetta Torretti:If you could go anywhere on holiday tomorrow, where would you go? Tomorrow I would go to Mallorca maybe. Nice resort, be safe in the pool, see you. Cocktail, chill. What do you lead more with, your heart or your head? Heart. Law, fashion, e-commerce, tech or founder, which one would you not recommend a career in? I'm between law and fashion. Law and fashion, don't do that. Fashion is brutal. Yeah. Low ulcer is brutal, but both help you to really build a very thick skin. Do you call your chat GPT a person's name? No, but I should because it's becoming my employee number one. What do you think you'd call it?

3:01Sophie.

3:02Elisabetta Torretti:Oh, that's nice. Nice to meet Sophie. Would you rather have no phone for a week or no content posted? No phone for a week. What advice would you give to someone measuring their self-worth by their metrics? Oh, forget about it. Like, do not even check. If that's the case, then don't post. How do you unwind after a busy day? I go for a walk. Power walk. Power walk. You can have a one-hour chat with anyone in the world. Who would you choose? Maybe Serena Williams. Oh, yeah. Very good choice. Yeah. Go to audio on a walk, music or podcast? Actually, no music, no podcast. Oh, I love that. Because I just want to be with myself.

3:41And mostly I go on parks and walks, so I just want to hear the nature.

3:46Elisabetta Torretti:It's so important that we do more of that. We're all consuming way too much. What's one piece of advice you'd give but never follow yourself? Don't take your phone too much. I'm addicted. Badly addicted. If you could only dress in one colour forever, what would it be? Blue. What advice would you give someone who's afraid to show up online? No one cares at the end of the day. Just go out there. Yeah, just no one cares. what childhood hobby would you bring back into your grown-up life singing oh last one what's the weirdest dm or comment you've received on social media i wanted to be my sugar mommy oh my gosh yes okay did you reply to it no i did not reply but the guy wanted to really marry me and he was very serious about him becoming very good stay-at-home husband and wow yeah this went deep uh yeah he pitched he was very serious very detailed and not actually trying not trying to be offensive but like very wanting it he was ready yes and i was not i guess thank you so much that is your post and curious thank you thank you
