In short
Why people lose “miracles”: reactive, self-focused thoughts crack the “spiritual vessel,” sending abundance to external forces (klipot) instead of holiness (kedusha).
Key claims
Only intentions “for the creator” (lishma) are true light; doing good things without lishma still leaks to the negative side. Miracles require building a vessel via timing, restraint (masach), compassion, and studying sages—especially when reactive.
Notable examples
gym/health goals must be tied to optimal consciousness; a trainer pushing too hard led to back injuries, showing how misaligned striving disrupts service. Adam/Eve’s “sin” is framed as taking energy before readiness/protection (intercourse before Sabbath), shattering vessels.

26David Ghiyam:So if you want to learn more about the concepts I've shared, simply log into David AI and you can ask David AI, teach me more about this concept. Teach me something you've never taught me before. and then you will have a curated lesson just for you. And as always, I enjoy the voice version of it even more than I do the text. So if you haven't tried the voice version, I think you'll find it very powerful. We have a section here from Ravashlag. I'll just read what it says and then we'll decipher it. In spirituality, when a person is broken, it is similar to when you break a vessel in the physical world so if we take this glass and we break it the water spills everywhere and it is exactly the same when our soul is broken it says with a physical vessel if it is broken and you pour into it some liquid the liquid pours out likewise in spirituality if a thought of desire to receive for the self alone so a reactive thought enters your vessel it cracks your vessel and the abundance will pour out and go to the klipot the external forces meaning it goes out of the realm of holiness okay so So Rav Ashland is saying very simply that when we have reactive thoughts, anxious thoughts, fearful thoughts, thoughts of hatred, thoughts of jealousy, the moment we're having those thoughts, it is diminishing or breaking the very vessel that is holding the energy of all of our blessings.
19David Ghiyam:that energy begins to pour out to the external forces that then hold on to it that's also why when a person has negative thoughts they feel drained right so when a person is drained it also means that their spiritual vessel is is cracking because of the thoughts words and actions that they had that day what is the realm of holiness called kedusha what is it the highest level of kedushah is when something is for the creator lishma every time we do something for the creator we do something with the intention of connecting with the creator we immediately enter the realm of holiness so we start to build that protection around us not to allow that energy to leak anything outside of anything outside of for the creator is actually called the evil inclination, the Satan.
21David Ghiyam:That's very interesting. So of all the things that we call spirituality, and we say is light or dark, actually the only thing that is light of the creator is when something is for the creator. And everything else is the negative side. So let's say a person goes to the gym and they want to become healthy. That's not a bad thing. But if it's not attached to for the creator, it's still in the realm of the negative side. So still somehow this is outside of the realm of miracles. Let's say a person wants to have a family, wants to have children, wants to educate those children. Also in the Bible, it says that it's a positive precept to do those things.
59David Ghiyam:So it's not so much about doing positive things or refraining from negative things. That is the first step. But eventually everything has to be done with the thought that it is for the creator, meaning for the equivalence of form to be with the creator. How does going to the gym help me become more like the creator? Like I remember when I was so focused on my exercise and having a trainer and whatnot, and he always pushed me, he kept pushing me to my limits. But eventually he pushed me so much that I started having like back problems, like back injuries. And then I couldn't understand why I had so many back problems.
40David Ghiyam:And so it was connected to a certain leg exercise that that leg exercise pulls on the muscle that's in the back and then causes the back to go out of place, which took me months to figure that out. And so you think to yourself, well, then the back problems caused me to not be in a better state of consciousness, which then caused me not to be able to travel, which caused me not to be able to teach and do all the things that we were doing for the creator. So even when we work out, even the diets that we have, what's the goal? If the goal is just to be strong or to look a certain way, it's limited.
22David Ghiyam:Everything should be, how does even this workout help me be in my most optimal consciousness to be with the creator? And for each person, you figure that out for yourself. what do you need to do to have the most energy? What do you need to do to have the clearest mind? What do you need to do to be the least reactive version of you? Everything you do should be to get you to be the least reactive version of you so you can be one with the creator. For this reason, we, who were born after the breaking, so he's talking about the Shvilata Kilim, the breaking of the vessels. Before the world was created, the creator created 10 vessels of light.
03David Ghiyam:and then poured the light into those 10 vessels, and it shattered very much, very similar to if I have 10 ice-cold glasses and I pour scalding hot water in each of these glasses, they're all going to shatter because of the difference of form. The water is hot, the glasses are cold, and that shatters the glass. The opposite energies actually clash and create that shattering. And the vessels that were originally created were to receive, right? We were created to receive. and the light of the creator is a force of sharing. So when this force of sharing enters the vessel, it shattered it originally.
39David Ghiyam:So it was an unstable vessel originally. So we all had this unstable vessel originally. Therefore, how was this solved? It's called, it's obviously a much deeper concept. It's called Sim Sum Bet. There's another process that happened that the vessel then went and mixed itself with the holiness of the creator to receive a quality of the creator that is the desire to share. That's why each one of our souls that is coming to this world, we have both now. We have the desire to receive for the self alone. So that's our need to receive, which is a vessel. But we also have this quality of the spark of God, which is our desire to be a creator and our desire to share.
20David Ghiyam:Had we not had that spark, we would never want to create anything. We would just be receiving all the time. It would be a purely, purely, purely selfish person. so now we come to this world with these two forces it's also the body consciousness which is the greatest desire to receive and the soul consciousness it's the good inclination and the negative inclination it's the tree of knowledge good and evil so we all have these two forces and everyone in this world has these two forces no matter what the person you think is the purest person also has an equal negativity the person that you think is the most negative person actually has an equal positivity, but it might be dormant at this time.
59So there is no completely negative
02David Ghiyam:or completely positive person. It's just that they could be in different levels and there's a level of dormancy in one of those phases. What is that practically for each one of us? Every time we judge someone to be negative, we are causing a positive side of us to be dormant. We have to realize that everyone is in a process. Every single person is going through a process. Even the most negative people, it's the process of a fruit becoming ripe. Just because, Rav Ashok says, just because the fruit isn't ripe yet, doesn't mean it's a bad fruit. It just means it hasn't had enough time to become sweet, for the fruit to become sweet.
44David Ghiyam:Right now it's bitter. And if we look at everyone in this world, there's a process of becoming sweet and we don't judge them for the bitterness that they have. So this is awakening the godly side of us, another way that we can receive miracles. We stay in the realm of kedusha. Yes. What if we're good at not judging people for the bitterness that they have, but it's harder to not judge them for the bitterness that they inflict or create on others? Right. So you see certain astrological signs have like the sense of justice. Like the Libra gets bothered when there's an injustice that's around them.
25David Ghiyam:Someone is hurting other people. So naturally we're going to be upset with them, especially if the people they're hurting have a connection to us. For example, if someone is hurting children and I have children, I'm going to be particularly bothered by this person. So we're not saying again that this person shouldn't go to jail. We're not saying this person shouldn't face the consequences of the action. What we need to place that we need to get to is the compassion to realize that, hey, they're in a process. And if I come from that place of compassion, we will actually be able to solve the problem.
02David Ghiyam:You know, there's all these studies done of incarceration around the world and the European countries, especially they have a more compassionate way of incarcerating. And the data shows that the, what's it called? When you go back there, there's a word. it's a re something it's a re i forgot what it is but the the the people who then become offenders again has gone down dramatically because of the compassionate way that they approach it i remember seeing a special once um i think it was on 60 minutes i'm not sure the person who did murder the way that they rehabilitated him they let him um like go out into public to see his family they there was a whole earning process that he went through and he actually rehabilitated as opposed to keeping him just caged up and just labeling him as bad.
52David Ghiyam:Of course, there's a whole spectrum of good forces and negative forces, and some people need different types of help, and not everyone can just be out in society. That is true, but it is the approach that we have with people is what's going to determine the evolution of their soul as well as our soul. So someone's going through a difficult time in their life, you should ask yourself, where are you being harsh on someone else's process? Because then the creator, the universe is being harsh on your process. The more you're judging someone else's process, then there'll be judgment on your process in the upper worlds.
32David Ghiyam:Says the breaking of the vessels
36David Ghiyam:softened when there was the mingling of the, what we said before, the simsumbet, that the positive qualities of the creator mixed with the desire to receive for the self alone. This is also why when we are in our most reactive state, we need to, we have the greatest desire to receive when we're reactive, right? We want to say what we want to say. We want to do what we want to do. We want to give into our addictions. We have to mix and mingle with the spark of the creator. In those moments, to study. Study from the books of the sages. In those moments, align yourself with people who have good consciousness.
08David Ghiyam:Often when we're reactive, we find people who match our reactive thoughts and feelings. We're not going to call the friend who's going to talk us out of it. We're going to call the friend who's going to support the way we feel and then increase our reactivity, right? We all, misery loves companies. We're going to look for other people who are miserable and upset. And he says, no, you have to connect to what was the SimSumbet. You have to mingle your energy, intermix your energy with the opposite energy in order to not have your vessel crack. And it says this was the matter of the sin of the tree of knowledge.
45David Ghiyam:The sin of Adam caused the holy sparks to fall into the negative side. So the sin of Adam was the continuation of the shattering of the vessels. We said there were 10 vessels that shattered. Then there was Sim Sum Bet that then cleansed those vessels so that it could receive. Then it went to another level, which was Adam. Same issue with Adam. He received light that his soul couldn't handle. It shattered him. And then it says that the sparks of Adam and Eve then fell into all the forces of this world. And so all the souls that are coming to this world now to elevate those sparks back. The main correction of humanity is this.
25David Ghiyam:The one tikkun that all of us have, all of us, all tikkuns come from this one tikkun, is receiving energy that our vessel cannot handle. If you take energy before your vessel is ready, you shatter your vessel. If you put up what's called the masach, which is the curtain, you were able to resist the energy. Meaning, practically, you're looking not for the instant gratification. You're going against your comfort zone. You're always pushing against your comfort zone. This creates the vessel that actually can hold the light. and also timing. Allow things to come to you. Don't take them. Adam and Eve's sin was they had intercourse.
11David Ghiyam:People think it's like something about the tree. It's not about the tree. They had intercourse. Well, it is actually about the tree. The tree caused them to lose consciousness and then they did an action, which is they had intercourse before the Sabbath came in. And it says that the energy of the Sabbath was an energy of protection that would have protected them while they had intercourse to allow that energy of intercourse to stay with them. But because they had a very high level of intercourse before the Sabbath, they didn't wait the full six hours because they were created at noontime on Friday and they had to wait six hours until sundown.
45David Ghiyam:Because they didn't wait, they lost the protection. So the energy they drew to the intercourse went to the negative side and says that was a sin. Obviously, that's more of a metaphor for all of us. to wait until the birthday cake is being brought out to you. Don't go to the fridge and eat from the birthday cake just because you're hungry. Wait till everybody sings songs and comes out and celebrates your birthday, then you can eat the cake. Is that why we become ashamed of ourselves when we do things that are wrong, even when no one can see us? Is that why we are ashamed, yes, when we're doing things that are wrong, even though nobody can see us, right?
24David Ghiyam:Everybody carries some level of shame. And it's not just the shame of other people seeing that you made a mistake. It's the shame that we all carry deep inside of ourselves when we're not even conscious of it. We're taking something, we're willing something into existence before it's time. The world at large should focus on how to build a vessel, not how to take the light. The light will come. You don't have to worry about the light. The creator will do his job. Your job is to always build the vessel for the creator then can do his job. But when you go in, when you're not keeping your side of the street clean, and you're going to the other side of the street, and you're trying to do God's job for him, this is the shattering of the vessel.
09David Ghiyam:This is the shattering of the vessel.
14David Ghiyam:And maybe we'll end with this here. We should believe what our sages tell us, that all the pleasures and delights that we all desire in this world, like think about everything that you want, everything that you want, everything from the love and the intimacy and the sustenance and the abundance and the freedom and the friendship, everything in this world, all the pleasures is but a tiny candle compared to the pleasures that exist when you connect with the light of the creator. So that means that if you did no spiritual work, you just went out to the world and you just consumed everything there was to consume oh like think about the greatest trips the greatest food the greatest pleasures of life respect man the whole world loves you respects you says you're amazing you have power you have control it's but a tiny candle to the pleasure you will experience when you uproot this reactive fearful ego driven side of you when you finally transform that the pleasure you'll have is so much greater than if you just went into the world and consumed everything there was and this is why also we know that the people who have everything also feel empty because they don't have the thing that they came to the world to have, which is the vessel to hold the light.
40David Ghiyam:They're just consuming, consuming, consuming. If you build the vessel for the light, you get all of it. You get the spiritual pleasure and yes, the world will respect you. The financial security will come. Everything that you were consuming before will come also, but it will be brought to you. be brought to you via the creator, not through your taking of it. And I'll say personally, it changes all the time and it's something different for every single person, but what are some practical practices that I do and I have learned from my teachers and the sages of how we can build our vessel? So number one, I wake up every morning and ask myself, what is it that I'm trying to receive?
29David Ghiyam:and how can I allow it to come to me in the right time in the right way versus me going out there to take it? Because one of the ways that we take is then we become manipulative, we become controlling. When you see yourself being reactive, it means that you're crossing the boundary to taking. Even if you think you're right, even if the logical mind tells you you're right, even if the whole world is telling you to do something, if you are reactive, meaning if you feel lack, pain and fear, you're acting from it, you're not ready yet. You are not ready to receive. It's not about right or wrong. It's not about what the world says that you should do.
10David Ghiyam:Only you know if you're reactive or not. So that's one thing I always ask myself is, I'm not trying, I tell the creator, don't give me something that I'm not ready to receive. Even if I want it, even if I believe I deserve it, I ask you to override my own desire and bring it at the right time. And the second thing I ask the creator is what do I need to do to be able to receive? Because if I have a desire it means the fulfillment comes before the desire. So that means the fulfillment of what I want exists causing me to want it. So what do I need to do to prepare myself for that fulfillment? And even more practically it's easier to do this when you're in silence and you're not being distracted and you genuinely crave and really really want to know how it's done it's not just like a nice little meditation do you really really want to subjugate your desire to the desire of the creator for you do you really really really really believe that the creator can give you more than you can give yourself.
15David Ghiyam:So that is something that practically I try to do every morning. Something else actually comes to my mind is I visualize losing everything. Sounds crazy. Everyone's visualizing to have everything. I'm visualizing what would I feel if I lost everything. And first I would feel all the lack and the sadness and the pain and then i would meditate to feel perfect and whole even if i lost everything because then you're allowed to keep it but when it comes to a time where the the respect the abundance the family the children starts to give you a pleasure as a crutch meaning if i didn't have it I'd be upset.
06David Ghiyam:If somebody didn't like me, I'd have a horrible day. Once you reach that place, then it means that you're not being your own light. And so eventually those things will be taken away. So the way to protect what you have and to make it immortal is to meditate proactively. How would I feel if I lost everything? Some people say, well, isn't that manifesting it if I think that way? And the answer is no. When the negative side gives you thoughts of worry and anxiety about losing things and you dwell on those thoughts coming from the outside, then yes, you can manifest that negativity. When you are proactively choosing to experience the lack because you want to be like the light, you want to let go of the trappings of this physical world, So it's a hook in you.
02David Ghiyam:When you're proactively choosing it, you're actually creating immortality. You're avoiding the death of those things.

In this episode, the deepest teaching I have ever shared on the podcast, I read directly from the writings of Rav Ashlag on why your vessel cracks, why the light pours out to the negative side the moment you are not protecting it, and the two morning practices I use to keep what the Creator has already given me.
