In short

Eddie Hall guest episode focused on his “tank” obsession, fighting/boxing callouts, and the story behind his fake/controversial 500kg deadlift record and aftermath. They also discuss enhanced games/doping, strongman vs MMA, and Eddie’s views on KSI/Ngannou-style matchups.

Guest backgrounds

Eddie Hall is a former world-record strongman (500kg deadlift) and later competed in MMA (including a 2v1 no-rules fight vs two smaller Polish opponents). He also runs businesses and uses YouTube for “stupid shit,” plus owns two road-legal decommissioned tanks (artillery tank with ~11-mile accurate range).

Key claims

Eddie says he can “catch” Ngannou and win 0.5% of the time; he’s open to fighting KSI/Dylan Danis only if the opponent is serious. He claims his 500kg lift was pivotal for strongman’s mainstream attention and that he used betting odds (25:1) to fund his strongman career. He describes the lift causing nosebleed, convulsions, temporary vision loss, and extreme adrenaline.

Notable examples

Uber-with-a-tank, tank 360 maneuvering via track brakes, Uber app “tank rides,” 2v1 training by being mauled by two larger coaches, and the “500kg” being broken/verified only in competition (he cites alleged non-live streaming examples).

1:17Chip:Do you know what we have a problem with when we have guests on? And it's just because it's gone on for this long is that, see, I try and get something in and I say something because I'm worried if I don't do that and chip's not going to have anything prepared so he doesn't say anything sometimes I can hear and feel chip next to me like he's ready to say something so I'll kind of leave it an extra second and if he don't jump in I start panicking and jump in with a question so chip you need to be aggressive in this podcast okay all right

3:31Chip:no you can't if you rip it off the bat you run the risk of fucking it yeah so you're better off

3:36Cal:dropping it like 40 minutes in that's what i mean i don't want to think make him go oh fucking up just walked into the freak zone did you see diddy diddy got freed up did you get freaking ed ed yo did you see did you see what what sort of band is that what sort of cracks out

3:56Chip:you know what i've noticed as well stan one area in your producing which could do with some work is like when you see me and chip panicking and we don't know what to say like feel free to Even I'm scared of him today I might go a bit quieter Ever since Troy Deeney

7:24Chip:I can't wait for you to take off that pump cover and show everyone what you're working with.

7:28Cal:Give me about three months though. Remember, I've got sliders down, so I need a little bit of work.

7:32Chip:Yeah. You need to just dial in, brother. I'm not going to lie. Because right now you're inspiring me and you're inspiring all the fellas watching.

7:39Cal:That's a good point. When I whip off this pump cover in a few months, you're going to be like, fuck. I looked at the mirror this morning and I'm the heaviest I've ever weighed as well. What are you weighing in at? Like 71 to 72 I was the other day. You've got to weigh way more than that. for your height. That was after. You're like a six foot guy. Yeah, I am. Most people think I'm not though.

7:58Chip:Yeah, you get that all the time. People go up to you and they go, you're way taller than I thought you'd be. Yeah.

8:03Cal:Because you do be looking like a shrimp. Yeah, people come in for pictures and I just give them a fucking nudge. Just like, I'm not there. You know what I mean?

8:10Chip:Guys, if you haven't already, then make sure you get on the 165 Summer Tease Drop, baby.

8:16Cal:Get a look at the back of this one. One of my favorite ones right here. And it says, 0001650001. Okay, brilliant.

8:25Chip:Thank you very much, Chip. You got the dice on the back.

8:27Cal:So I got a nice little simple one. So it's 164, fifth floor on the front. Squat. We've got the dice on the back. Look at that. And you know what? The dice make up 165. What the fuck is he doing?

8:38Chip:I was just making a little face. Anyways, guys, look. What you want to do, we're going to leave a link in the show notes and also the YouTube description. Head over to 165th floor. Also, it is going to be exclusively available to loaded and mailing list members 24 hours before anybody else. So if you want to make sure you get the t-shirt that you want, by the way, it's not just these two. We've got a bunch of other ones as well. I actually think the plain one is my plain one is my favorite. It's so sick. Anyways. Yeah. Go on over there. Enjoy, check it out. And yeah, like I said, we'll leave a link there.

9:14Chip:The quality of these things are phenomenal. We've kept the same. More importantly, the neckline is a big thing that we've been making sure is correct. And we've had so much good feedback on the tees. That's why we're relaunching Summer Tees. So yeah, you guys have really enjoyed this. We've enjoyed making these and the quality of them. It always makes me happy when we deliver high quality shit to you guys. And to be honest with you, Chip simply wouldn't let it go out. I mean, that's why we have Loaded because he didn't like anything else.

9:41Cal:Say it again, man. This guy, perfectionist. He's one of the best in the game. Are you talking about yourself in the third person, bro? are you talking about me you talking about me i was talking about myself all right anyways guys 161st floor go check it out enjoy hell yeah all right our guest is here and it is none other than the amazing eddie hall hey hello hello squeeze there sorry about that we've uh it's a small

10:07Chip:basement you're a reasonably sized fella so it makes sense there it is thank you very much for making it here. Yeah, thanks for having me. You're a podcaster yourself now? I am indeed. You've been on plenty of podcasts, but now you're at your own. Yeah. Yeah, eventually found myself on the other side of the microphone, so yeah, it's pretty cool. How do you like it? Do you enjoy being on that side, or do you prefer being the one being spoken to? I think I'm enjoying it. I think I'm old enough now where I've got that kind of wisdom, where I can appreciate the stories and sort of relate with them and look back on things that we've done in the past and it's pretty cool to to meet with like man like-minded individuals and go through stuff that's made them successful and obviously highs and lows it's pretty pretty cool is it is it more on the serious side of things or are you dicking around with like this podcast is not a very serious podcast this is purely just this is dicking around talking about goon and talking about all sorts of things like it's yeah it's uh it's a bit of a mess but yours looks a lot more focused and dialed in yeah definitely more more to the character you know the person that what makes them tick yeah you know where they've brought up what what childhood trauma have they had or what what's what's made them competitive why they're so successful so yeah definitely diving into more of you know um that the successfulness of that person and how how have they got to that point what's made them that person.

11:37Cal:What kind of people are you getting on the pod? Well, so far we've had we've had Tom Stoltman, we've had Tommy Fury we've got Tom Aspinall Ross Edgley Every one of those lads is fucking massive.

11:53Chip:Yeah. Yeah, I won't be expecting a call up anytime soon.

11:57Cal:Nah, well, speak for yourself I'm sorry. He was the other chicken Don't need to show you up or anything, yeah I found you were coming on the pod, I was like, fuck I need to dial in on the protein this morning

12:06Chip:yeah so he upped his protein which is good but um do you have a dream guest a bit early to to maybe ask that but it's always yeah i mean uh look someone like arnold schwarzenegger someone to come on and just and and uh twist his mind around would be phenomenal something like that bit belting up to be fair yeah unreal um but yeah i guess uh in this podcast it'd be great to chat to you just about a little bit about the crazy stuff i mean you've you've lived a far more entertaining life than I have so far, so far. Not to say I won't ever deadlift 500 kilos. I never want to say never with these things, but you've done some pretty cool shit.

12:42Chip:And the coolest shit, like, you know, Fair Play, the 500 kg, that's all class at all, but you have a fucking tank.

12:49Cal:You've got to explain to me. You still have that? Yeah, I've got two tanks.

12:54Chip:You've got two tanks?

12:55Cal:Okay, one wasn't enough.

12:56Chip:Let's just get a second one. First of all, I need to know, how much is a tank setting you back? A few quid. It's not as much as you might think, though, but since the war started in Ukraine, they've really rocketed in value. So I've got... A bit of an investment piece. I've got really lucky, yeah. Yeah.

13:12Cal:Fuck. Flipping tanks. Yeah, flipping tanks. That's the most neat and neat thing ever. If you wanted to... Like, is it working to the point where if you fucking got some ammo for that shit, you could really... I could. I could. It's decommissioned on paper, but they're fairly easy to get recommissioned. I'm working towards getting my class one firearms license and I can attach the tank to it and then I can take it to a range and fire it

13:37Chip:oh shit that would be a sick youtube video you gotta do that that's what I'm working towards it fires the howitzer shells and howitzer shell would level this building well that's that's really yeah and the big tank I've got it's uh it's an artillery tank so it's it can fire accurately up to 11 miles. Whoa. Mate, that is insane. I have to ask as well. I'm curious about a tank, yeah? See, when you wake up one day and you go, yeah, I need myself a tank. Like, where do you, it's not AutoTrader that you're getting the tank from. Where do you source a tank? Yeah, tanks.com? Not far off. But you'd be surprised, like places like eBay and then you just, you know.

14:19Really? Popped on eBay and gone,

14:21Cal:I'm saying for sale, for real. Just bidding on a tank. The thing is with stuff like that is there's always a market for it. You know, with absolutely anything you can think of in the world, there is a market for it. So you've just got to find that market. And luckily the UK has a great market for old military vehicles. Yeah. And I think, don't quote me on this, but I think the UK is one of two, maybe three countries that lets you register tanks to be road legal on the road. So you can actually drive them down the road.

14:52Chip:Yeah, because you did a McDonald's video where you went and picked that up. And so is that, I just thought you would just do it a little bit on the side. Is that completely legal? Yeah. So the tank is completely roadworthy. So it's been passed by DVLA. Hold on a second. Sorry, just to cut you off. He's got on eBay here. He's got my grand. Okay. So that's just as a bid right now. There's no way you can go and buy one for five and a half, right? Probably is. Like, you'd be surprised how cheap some of this stuff goes. Like, for what it is. but that like the second it becomes it said that you're looking at like vehicles with wheels here like old artillery you know military vehicles but the second you put tracks and a cannon on a vehicle the the price rockets rockets it's like it's worth a lot of money so it's crazy how do you do that mcdonald's video sorry i cut you off in the middle of you telling me about that like yeah so the tanks were illegal so it's got it's got tracks and basically on the tracks you have these rubber pads and you're only allowed to drive it on the road with these rubber pads, basically, which I've got for both tanks.

15:52And yeah, you can only do 20 miles an hour. But pretty much any other law is exactly the same. You know, you treat the road as like you would any other vehicle.

16:02Chip:Is it tough to drive? I've actually been in a tank once for a YouTube video and it just looked really difficult to drive. It's actually much easier. That tank specifically, the one we're looking at now, is much easier to drive than a car. Much easier. How? Because it's just so much more maneuverable. So I could pull the right stick on that and put my foot to the floor and it will do a 360 on the spot. So in terms of like getting in and out of spaces and parking and getting around corners, it's actually better to maneuver than a car. Yeah.

16:35Cal:So it's not a standard wheel, is it? No, it's a track. No, so if you want to turn right, you put the right brake on and make the right track stop and the left ones would overthink. Okay.

16:47Chip:What else have you done with it? So we've done obviously the drive-throughs. We did Uber tank. So I set up an Uber app and pick people up on Uber. What were their reactions to that? Did you ever... Pretty good. Surely somebody at some point went, I'm just not getting in that. No, everybody got in.

17:04Cal:Well, they're not going to say fucking no to you. Yeah, it was pretty cool. Get in the fucking car, mate. Multi-story car park and broke the car park. You ran someone's car over, didn't you? Ran a car over. So yeah, I haven't done much with the new tank yet. I've just had it wrapped and all done. You didn't do like a matte black? No, I've had like a black and white camo. Oh, that's cool. It should be up actually if you put my tank.

17:29Chip:Oh, no, sorry. I did see this. Tommy Fury's in this video, isn't he? Yes. And it's pretty fucking cool. The tank is fucking phenomenal. It loops the ball. Is it a level up on the one where you did the McDonald's? It's 10 levels up. It's like, yeah. if you're gonna like if you're gonna buy a tank like if you're looking to pretend about this is the tank you would buy like the red legal time yeah so anybody listening if you are in the market actually want one you're getting good tank advice right here right now what the fuck do you store a

17:56Cal:tank though like you've just got a massive gaff with all this stuff driveway yeah i don't want to sound too snobby but it's yeah i've got a massive gaff yeah you know one of my dreams is

18:09Chip:to obviously have a nice big gap. But I actually just want loads of land. A friend of mine, Tom Syndicate, a YouTuber as well, he's bought, I think it's 110 acres of land. And he's making YouTube videos about him doing it up and just figuring out what he wants to do with all the different bits of land. And I just watched that and I just think, you could just come up with so many different things to do with a lot of land. Particularly having a tank. I might tell him, bro, get a tank. Yeah, I was saying there's a YouTuber called Whistling Diesel. Yes, in the US. He's a fucking madman. So I've been out to his place.

18:40He's got 210 acres. He's got tanks. He's got monster trucks. It is fucking amazing.

18:46Chip:Does he not have like a Apache helicopter? Or is one of those US lads has an Apache helicopter? I think he made a helicopter and took it off in his garage and blew his garage up. Fuck. I think. The US is just different though, isn't it? Like there's no rules out there.

19:03Cal:Just pure testosterone.

19:04Chip:their own so you try to your youtube uh channel when it like whistling diesel obviously hyper successful over in the u.s it's going to be like a similar vibe to that i would imagine that's how

19:14Cal:i know him he's he just put the triangle wheels on the yeah that's i just saw that like yesterday it actually moves as well yeah it's pretty cool so yeah he's a guy he just does my stuff so his his method of youtube is buy a vehicle and break it so we like buy a g-wagon and people like durability I just like to see that stuff like them ones where you got g-wagon or something they're trying to drive it up a fucking sand dune it's like yeah they're satisfying to watch

19:43Chip:what's your what's your plan with your youtube channel then is it is it something that you is it like the forefront of what you're doing or do you just do it as a bit of fun on the side like what's your main main thing at the moment it was a bit of fun you know it's a bit of a side quest I've got I've got businesses that keep me afloat and youtube's just fun for me and it's good exposure earns a good income and um yeah i just have fun you know it's like you get up most days what stupid shit can i get up to today yeah you know and that that's a great way to live your life yeah it's pretty sweet yeah it's a pretty sweet gig especially you know as long as it just sort of pays for itself and and you can run it that way obviously added in the podcast by tanks through through youtube money expense yeah i get my child a dream vehicle and i get to make money on it and enjoy it and hopefully write it off against any tanks damn man i'll be honest with you i didn't think we'd have this much uh tank chat but i'm here for it and you've actually now i want to buy a tank but unfortunately i don't think my central london apartment's gonna that's what i'm

20:43Cal:saying like if we've tried to rock up and put it in the underground park i think they'd be like fuck off mate yeah you're not keeping that in there and i'm not going to build to intimidate

20:51Chip:them um you kind of you seem to be doing like a lot of different bits and pieces like you said youtube's one of them you've obviously been into fighting done a bunch of stuff around that um and even sparred the current ufc champ who we we had on the podcast actually uh tom espinal um how close are you with a lot of these these fighting do you do you enjoy that side or is it something you kind of did you're like i'm over it or no i really enjoy it i think you know i sort of finished strongman and it's always with this because you're so involved with strongman it's it's a full-time more than a full-time job doing that kind of thing so to come away from that did a load of tv shows for a few years did a lot of touring a lot of endorsements um and then it's like you've got to knuckle down on stuff and not an opportunity came to fight uh in qatar for this mad prize prize fighter thing and it it all fell through so i trained for six months for fuck all so i said look i've got to carry this on so i actively sought out a fight against uh marius podnoski who uh is five times world's strongest man and he's been an mma fighter for 17 years had nearly 30 professional fights jesus so i took him on and uh yeah i fucked him up so it's it's good fun and that was a but that was with a year's training and i'm quite keen to carry that on and i've got no i've got no aspirations to be a ranked fighter or be the number one fighter in any federation i just want to have fun i just want to fight people like maui spurnoski i want to fight you know mad fights like maybe fight francis and ganu just absolutely crazy things you know out of this world yeah um and just make money and have fun that's my main there was one fight that i remember seeing loads of clips of and it's a 2v1 i haven't seen that i'm sorry but how does that even like how did that fight even happen more so in the sense that did you pitch this idea did they pitched this idea these two little fuckers from poland kept calling me shit online just taking the piss out my deadlift and calling me names and i just sent him a message like luke keep your fucking name keep my name out your fucking mouths or i'll fucking sort you out and before i know it like a week later i had a contract to fight these fuckers oh my god mate it's something out of a

23:02Cal:video game this you know for that must have asked that that's that's horrible i cleaned him out him yeah he must he must have had a sore head for a few days but yeah that's how that came about and yeah i had a contract under my nose i was like fuck it let's go for it i'd done a bit of mma training i was like let's let's go how tall are these guys they're like so i think they were five foot six yeah 65 no five foot eight and 65 kilo each fuck so they're like they look small to me but they're not like they're not tiny they're not like bantam weight because i'm so big

23:37Chip:oh my god and what were the like what are the rules for this fight were there anything that they said pretty much there was a few shake like handshake agreements like not to slam him on the head and all that kind of thing but other than that it was no rules barred just you could smack him

23:53Cal:as hard as you wanted basically yeah and was this the lad this video here yeah so this is the last MMA fight this is against the guy that was a strongman as well yeah this guy's a renowned fighter like he's

24:07Chip:a hard motherfucker yeah like even then though it don't even yeah it's a long day so are you definitely more into um the mma side of things or does the boxing i mean i prefer the mma and i've seen that i think my my strengths are my strengths is my strength you know literally um and and that's that's what gives me the the advantage i believe in that kind of scenario is is just grabbing someone and mauling them you know if a hundred kilo guy grabs your wrist you you could probably get them off. If I grab your wrist, you're not getting me off. You know, I've just got 20 years of strongman strength that you can't overcome.

24:43So, yeah. And, and it's funny because before this fight with Marius, like every fucking Tom, Dick and Harry wanted to fight me in MMA. And after this fight, it's like, Oh no, no, I'll fight in boxing. It's like,

24:55Chip:no one wants it. Because it gives me the advantage of grabbing and mauling and throwing them around. So, um, getting fights is pretty tough, but I'm talking with, um, you know, different federations out in Asia and Middle East and even the UK and Poland and places. So I'm hoping something more will come. But would your main dream fight, if you will, like an Nganu in an MMA match? I wouldn't say that's my dream fight. I mean, Nganu is fucking lethal. Like, he is a hard motherfucker. Mate, he's mental, yeah. But I've been talking with people and his name's come up and I'm like, hey, I'll give it a bash.

25:33and it's, I've got a good mindset for it because, look, like if you put us in a ring a thousand times, 995 times, he fucking wins. But it's that five times where I catch him on the chin and fuck him up. And it's, even if it is that 0.5%, I'll take it.

25:50Cal:Yeah. You know? And that's, that's exactly the same mindset I had with the Marius fight. Every single comment and you can go back to it. Were you the underdog for that? Every single comment, and I mean this, every single comment on the social media said I was going to get fucking murdered. every single person even my mates I said I was fighting Marius said I was fighting Marius Pernoski and they're like oh fucking are you oh good luck and it's like yeah cheers so yeah I don't mind being the underdog so you reckon now after that fight everyone's calling you out for it thinking you're going to get better you've gone in you've done that you reckon there's a fight in the world that happens where you don't go in confident or do you reckon now I mean look there's confidence but I just know my ability right so like with the Marius fight in terms of ability, he's got way more ability than me.

26:35He's got 17 years fight experience. I had less than one. It's my first MMA fight. But I just knew I got that ability. If I catch you on the face, you're fucked. Yeah. And that's exactly what happened. I caught a square on his face, his eyes rolled, and I fucking finished him. Yeah. So I've got that over a lot of other fighters. I'm not saying I've got, you know, I'm not saying other fighters haven't got the knockout ability. Of course they have. But pretty much any punch I land has the knockout ability. you know, just because I'm a sheer size and strength. Yeah.

27:05Chip:And when it comes to, obviously, a good friend of mine, KSI has the whole misfit side of things. Did you ever have any chats about jumping on that? It seems like a pretty natural fit. So, yeah, there's been, I mean, I think there was even a chat of me fighting KSI at one point. Really? Yeah. It's too fucking pussy to do. Leave bro alone. To be fair, what is it like? What's going to happen? They're way different. That's going to be a tough one. Yeah, there's been talks about Dylan Danis. that was another one with three misfits oh wow so they've been mentioning that but yeah I sort of spoke to his well met his agent out in Amsterdam recently and again he was like no fucking chance he'd kill him Dylan Danish your manager says you're a pussy basically insane so if you want to fucking have a word with him and tell him to man up and let him let you have a fight then stop being a pussy that'd be great it's got to be tough to find people in your wake I agree man or just in that just even remotely just anyone in the world really yeah it's pretty tough and again even if there is I feel like again I'm not in it I'm not in this to make proof points I'm not in this to like get a ranking I'm here to have fun you know and there has to be someone on the same sort of level you know I want to fight another Eddie Hall who's got the same sort of exposure backing and everything it's pointless to be fighting someone my size from fucking Bulgaria or some freak from Russia just some hard bastard where's the excitement in that We want a world's strongest man versus a world's strongest man or a world's strongest man versus a top-level fighter because I think that's the exciting thing.

28:38Chip:Have you seen they've been doing those? They're kind of gimmicky, but regardless, it's still pretty entertaining to watch. It's like these tag team fights. And I think that maybe has even more potential if you were to team up with maybe even somebody smaller versus a pretty big person and somebody smaller. Yeah, well, I think me and Mariusz Pernoski could team up and maybe fight four people. I love that. Boy, that would be so good to watch. A little 2v4. But that 2v1 I did was honestly one of the most, like the most fun I'd had in so long. Yeah. Like just gripping that little foot. How do you train for that?

29:11Chip:Were you training against two other people? What's that look like? I had two coaches that are quite a bit bigger than them, but they just mauled me basically. Just both of them would just jump on me. I'd just put sparring on both, mauling on both. It was fucking hard work. Like training for 2v1 is fucking tough. Yeah, because fucking nobody does it. Exactly. like who the hell like what's the blueprint to train for a 2v1 exactly and this is the thing right so everyone plays that down oh they were fucking it's like they weren't that small and the thing is right you've got two you've got four sets of hands you've got four sets of feet you've got two hearts two lungs like that's fucking tough I don't give a fuck what anyone says that was a risky fight to take it was yeah it was fucking risky because if they do win

29:51Cal:then they're just people are going to be fucking one of them jumped and got you around the neck and one got you armed you're pretty much fucked how did you get those fuckers off and then online people just be saying, I just got back by two fucking small guys. And yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's like it's loose. Yeah. It's, yeah, it's, it's a tough one. But as I say, most people, like you put 95, 99 % of the population in a ring with two, those two guys, they'd fucking kill them.

30:12Chip:Yeah. They would. Yeah. I do think like watching that, I just think they should have come with a bit more strategy. Like I was thinking, I don't know if there was a strategy. I think they had a strategy. It just went out the window. I think I punched out of his fucking brain. To be fair, it's not a bad strategy. They've got it. because this is what I do. You go either side and then like...

30:31Cal:It is brilliant though that you're just pointing come on boys. Yeah. That's horrifying. I think I would have actually genuinely shit myself. Like, quite seriously.

30:43Chip:That's what I mean. Like that first time like they feel any force like the plan just goes out the window. I actually feel really sorry for that. So like, I'm sure you guys have had some scraps in your life. But like when you hit someone you kind of feel the punch on your hand. I didn't feel anything. It like went through his face like butter. There was no weight behind his head. And that's why there's weight classes. Because like I just went through his head where someone my own size, you know, you'd dunk. So yeah, it was, I felt bad for him. Would you do a WWE? So I've thought about that. I've had talks with them in the past and it's not for me.

31:21What was it about it that you just don't like? Because you're quite a good entertainer as it is. Well, back then when I was talking to him, I had a pal who was doing it, and they're pretty much on the road 48 weeks of the year. And bear in mind, I'd just done a solid 10-year strongman career of being away from home constantly. I was like, I can't do this to my family again. And the money wasn't that great, I'll be honest. It was at the point where I could earn more money doing other things. So I decided to just ignore it, basically, and move on. Didn't make sense. Didn't make sense, yeah.

31:54Cal:Yeah That's right On YouTube You can do whatever the fuck you want And if you're going to make more from it

31:58Chip:Well you can There's just so much to be Really Have you been I was watching I think it's over now But I feel like this happened Like two months ago The Enhanced Games Oh yeah

32:08Cal:Have you seen it

32:08Chip:They were giving a million quid A million dollars To anybody that got a world record

32:13Cal:Oh so be an official Be an official thing They can just

32:16Chip:But they can just get Absolutely juiced to the girls Okay yeah Did that happen? Did you follow any of this stuff? I didn't follow Has this happened? I didn't follow anything Did anyone do it? No, so this is it. I've only really seen like swimming clips, right? And it's the one guy that I definitely know did break it, did it in swimming. So he broke Michael Fels. And he broke a swimming world record. But I mean, you can see like -

32:41Cal:Oh, okay.

32:43Chip:Yeah. That's a pretty big bill for a swimmer. That is, yeah. But what's interesting is like swimming is actually one of the sports where that doesn't necessarily lend itself very well. For sprinting, I bet it would. Definitely. Yeah. Yeah. Like short distance, long distance, probably not. Yeah. But this is what, this is what I want to like. Why am I only seeing like the swimming stuff? Because they were talking about this enhanced games, but I haven't seen any other sport. They've obviously kept it very hush hush and like no one's allowed to film on the phones and stuff. But why would they? Because they were trying to turn this into like a big media thing.

33:15Cal:Yeah. Like its own category. So there's no limits technically. Like you go away, do whatever you want. And do you know what? I think it's actually really good. I think it's good to have the separation of the two. Like the guys that want to go and get enhanced and do their own thing, I'm all for it. Because we want to see the fastest, biggest, strongest person there is, right? And I think it's a bit fucking boring, but it can be a bit boring. The fact that they are limited by factors like that. I think this is great. I really do. Yeah, because this is like, there's no holds barred. Like you genuinely can do whatever you want get as juiced as you want and push the human body to its limits and if they want to take that risk and do that let them crack on like who rather them than me we're not their fucking mums yeah I'd fucking love to watch that like if you're seeing somebody go like that's what I mean if you're going to watch the enhanced Olympics or the normal Olympics you're going to watch the enhanced Olympics all day aren't you yeah 100 % if it means they're running fucking faster swimming faster throwing further then yeah why not you just want to see that because you're just seeing world records be broken even if it is

34:21Chip:But this is what I was saying. It's a little bit annoying that the only coverage I'm seeing is about this swimming. And to be honest, I'm just not too asked about that. I want to see, like you said, the sprinting, like can somebody go like close to nine seconds, sub nine. That's insane. But I guess it just, it just hasn't happened yet. Yep.

34:40Cal:First.

34:41Chip:I'll get behind it though. It will come, right? Would you take par? No, I'm done, man. Too scary. Yeah, I'm done with pushing my body to those sort of swimmities. Yeah, that's pretty fair. I'm done you'd have to be you'd have to be a young athlete to put up with that kind of shit and put your body through the paces

34:57Cal:I guess you'd have to kind of choose career path then as well like young athlete it's like oh do I go this way you'd have to choose early on yeah because it's like do I go this way enhance like it's probably going to change perception around me as an athlete you can't really go back you can't go back I don't think it's tough yeah because if you went in the enhanced I bet the sponsors are probably going to keep a distance whereas the proper Olympic Avenue you're going to get more money in essence you know or more endorsements yeah but then it sounds like they enhanced are paying good good

35:24Chip:cash a million a million for a world record that's pretty sweet pros and cons yeah i mean to earn a million in um in swimming for instance fuck i'd be amazed if michael phelps earned a million his entire career from swimming directly from swimming yeah i'd be amazed yeah yeah yeah no the prize money there is just it's not going to be either it'll be like boxing just endorsements and stuff really um i feel like you know we'd be it'd be a crime to have you on here and i'll talk about probably one of the craziest achievements ever um which is a half ton deadlift um and i know loads of people have definitely spoken to i've watched a lot of interviews of you speaking about this um but would you say this was a pinnacle moment for you the your favorite your best achievement or is there something else out there that you're actually like this kind of goes under the radar but i think um i think it was a pinnacle moment for the entire strongman community yeah being honest i think um you know it was what was needed to bring the masses in um it got all it got so much attention that lift because it i remember it was like the impossible what was it just before you broke it so the world record on the day was 463 oh so you just blew through it So I broke it by 37 kilos.

36:43Cal:I mean, when a world record is 463, right? People must be thinking, oh, we're way away from 500. We're quite way away. Yeah, well, I remember on the strongman chat forums, you know, you go on these sort of places where you look for competitions and advice. I remember going on there, and I remember there was a forum on there. Will we ever see a 500 kilo deadlift in our lifetime? And there must have been over a thousand comments and every single one was like, no, no chance, fucking forget it.

37:09Chip:blah blah blah and then yeah fuck man i've got a question about this um that's more so about leading up to it did you always have like full 100 % doubt oh sorry um conviction that you were gonna do this or was it i've absolutely put fucking everything into this and we're just gonna we're gonna fucking full send it and see what happens or did you know that 500 was getting done i mean there was no certainty um so the year prior i pulled 462 that which was the the world record at the time and i went up to the promoters afterwards and i was like because to become the world's strongest man you need a lot of money like it's all it's it's expensive like food recovery travel so i needed something to put money in my back pocket to help me become the world's man and this was the only avenue i could sort of you know cheat the system and do so i made that that statement in 2015 i'm gonna pull 500 kilo and everyone was laughing promoters were laughing strongman were laughing the all the audience were laughing and i just i was like fuck it i can really capitalize on this like use it to my advantage all this negativity so i found um i can't say too much but I found through an agency friend, whatever.

38:29I was putting bets on myself to like pull the 500 kilo.

38:32Chip:Bad. Yeah. Like good odds as well. Could you say what the odds were? 25 to one. Fuck me. It doesn't sound a lot, but it's a lot to me. No, it is. A lot to me at the time is I put like three and a half grand down. Yep. And then, so that's like, you know, close to a hundred grand in prize money or takings, plus the prize money, plus sponsorship deals. that it was a fucking good payday put it that way man i mean achieving something like that you'd hope so as well surely everyone just comes you've got to be rewarded for something like this yes um so that i guess the 500 kilo was a stepping stone for me to become the world's strongest man because that money then helped me completely commit myself i didn't have to do any pt and i didn't have to do any work just like a whole solid year from 16 to 17 of just 100 military dedication to strongman so the the two come hand in hand i would say the 500 kilo was kind of like yes it's amazing but i think standalone it's not that makes sense i feel like it needed something to complement it so the world's strongest mind had to be attached to it for it to be really meaningful to me and the other way around as well like the world's strongest man to me on its own sounds horrible to say or very whatever but to me on a world's strongest man on its own like it's been done time and time again it's not that special like if i won the world's strongest man solely i don't think i'd be able to make a career out of that that's what i mean really i genuinely yeah i don't think i'd have been able to make a career out of it so the fact that the 500 kilo and this and the world's strongest man combined i think they they solidified each other you know so that's when that's why i i think i propelled into um you know the masses and i was able to make a good living from it i mean one of the one of the things i mean there's going to definitely be people that haven't heard a lot of the stories um behind like that deadlift but if anybody watches the video of it it's racked up some crazy number of views but just watching the video of it like you essentially pass out like after this happened like what this is doing to your body is quite literally insane explain like what afterwards did you like black out do you remember it so i don't i don't actually remember the lift uh it's all that's so not through um a series of events in my head where i was like walking up to the bar and i was picturing just for argument's sake i don't want to say what i was picturing but i was picturing like my my kids trapped under a car and the bar was the car you know and that's like this the scenario i put my my head space into so i did the lift and i sort of just i remember just waking up at the top of the lift and be like fuck and then just taking a moment to absorb it and then all that and then you let go and all that pressure all that blood everything just rushes back and um i remember just waking up and seeing blood just pouring out of my nose like pouring on the floor and i was couldn't you see on the footage i was like convulsing so it was like in and out of consciousness just sort of like not quite in the room yeah yeah um and then i come to and um yeah i sort of gather my thoughts get up do a speech when i get backstage and then i realized i couldn't fucking see properly so if you if you've ever done any welding in your lot in your time you get what you called the archive so if you look directly at a weld you basically blind in that section for like 10 minutes after and that's what i had so like in the middle of my eye i couldn't see but i could see everything like peripheral vision i could see so i had that so i could only like bring my hand to here before i could see it sort of thing um my heart rate was uh close to what was over 200 beats per minute my blood pressure was unreadable and just like i just couldn't get control of my body like it just went off and i think it was just this sheer uh like flush of adrenaline that i gave myself i just went off the charts like because i basically i tricked myself to put myself in this scenario like a fight or flight scenario and the adrenaline release was just so fucking intense yeah and obviously the aftermath was was suffering the repercussions of that so i mean if you inject too much adrenaline into somebody they die you know just everything just tenses up heart rate goes off and they go and that's essentially what i was doing just too much adrenaline yeah i was entered into my bloodstream well i mean i think i know the know the answer to that question after what you've just said there um because one of the things here is do you think you could have lifted

43:09Cal:heavier to stanley he's asking the important questions so i mean yes yeah i mean you did it right 100 jesus christ i mean if you put another five kilo on there you'd be you'd be stupid to say i wouldn't have pulled it you know when you're doing those sort of numbers so yeah 100 there was more there but and and there has been opportunities since then to you know so when i won the world strongest round in 2017 a year later there's no doubt in mind i was a stronger human being then like a year on i was much stronger well and people are trying to persuade me to come back and pull 501 502 503 and i'm like why like why would i risk myself like like you do 500 it's like yeah fuck and then you come back and do 501 it's like oh well yeah it's not the same 502 and it's like

43:55Chip:that pole vaulter that just rocks up every, have you seen him? There's this pole vaulter and once he rocks it because he gets a payout of like a hundred grand every time he breaks a world record. So every event, he just puts it up by like one centimeter and he breaks a world record every fucking event. Very clever, but that wasn't there for me because the barrier had been broken.

44:16Cal:500 is such a nice round number. Yeah, you know, all that betting had gone so no one was going to bet 501 wasn't possible. The prize money had gone because it was like, oh, we better keep the prize money low yeah i mean the prize money was ridiculous but i think they put it so ridiculous because they thought no one was going to fucking do it yeah hence the betting and everything so the the money had gone from the lift completely and it's the good old say i remember saying this to the to an interviewer once and it's like why fucking bother i was like do you know who the second man on the moon is do you know if you do i do know you do know yeah who is it buzz aldrin yeah you're right but a lot of people don't most people honestly like I could ask a hundred people on the street and no one yeah it's just Neil Armstrong that's my fucking point no one gives a fuck about second place that's the truth no one gives a fuck about the second person yeah a thousand years from now Buzz Aldrin will not be talked about I'm sorry it's Neil Armstrong nah he's gonna do his best to keep it going it's gonna be me going up to people on the street saying just remember his name but that's my point it's like I did the such pinnacle it's like I've got nothing left to prove I don't need to come back and pull 501, 502 capable, more than capable

45:27Chip:You think there's a record now in the Strongman community do you think there's a record that your record's going to be broken soon? just across any other list? I mean yeah, there's so many records that are out there and they get broken yearly and I think the 500 kilo will be broken and you know, we've got people at Half Orbe Johnson who, you know, he's pulled 501 in his gym and he needs to come and do it in a competition to make it official.

45:51Cal:Yeah, so it doesn't count if you're not doing it in a competition. It has to be in a competition scenario. And the reason for that is, you know, they might well be legit, but there's so many factors that people aren't there to sort of verify in terms of, like, I've got another athlete going after me that's going to pull exactly the same weight. And that solidifies it. Just having another athlete there makes it legit, you know? And I think there's so many factors outside of a competition that make it not okay. Like, you know, the live streaming of a competition. I mean, we know for a fact, I know for a fact when Ford did his 501, they said it was live streamed and I know for a fact it wasn't.

46:31Cal:Oh, really? Yeah. Well, has anybody watched it? Well, the same federation live streamed a log press, a live log press of Robert Kearney doing a log press. And I knew Robert Kearney had tore his tricep off the bone. So I was like, so how is he fucking doing that live? And we quizzed it and oh yeah, they pre-recorded it. Okay.

46:49Chip:so it wasn't live that was the same federation that did force deadlift so just shit like that and that's why it has to be in a competition you know just to get rid of that question mark yep that's it you know and it could be as simple as getting another athlete on the bar do your live event or whatever but as long as there's another athlete there who's got no no um what's the right with no reward from that lift being lifted then i think that's more fair but you know when you're in a room that's live streamed and every single person in that room is paid on the success of that lift that's not right no that's not right yeah so yeah no i hear that and what is the current um bench press world record does that exist yeah yeah i mean obviously it's a it's a guy called god i don't know on the tip of my tongue um fucking humongous guy go stanley have a look bench press record the thing is baker is it the thing is with these bench his name or first name and i'll know it jimmy jimmy club no that's not him set by 2023 oh god what what pals with him as well you know when someone's this poor lad's gonna be watching this like no he's here but he's not i can't just think of his Do you know what the number is for the record?

48:12Yeah, so I think the number is 355 kilos. So this is, so go on like shirtless. So this is like equipped. Oh, okay. Like raw bench press world record. Julius Maddox. Okay. Julius Maddox. There we go. Just came to me. Julius Maddox. So what's the difference there? Sorry. So it's got like a bench shirt, which is like, it's like wearing a big rubber ring around your chest and it sort of, you know, propels everything. so it's it's a set in essence it's not raw okay so this is this is proper raw dog shit

48:46Cal:in the jungle oh let's do this he is a huge fucking unit absolute unit mate he's built like an oven so he's like yeah but he's six foot four yeah he's a big motherfucker yeah wow fucking hell yeah so how much is he pressing here

49:04Chip:so this is 361 kilos 361 kilos and I'm fairly, so he's put, see how he's put that unofficial world record because it's not done in a competition. Oh, but he knows that. Yeah, so he knows that. 361 kilos is fucking insane. That's fucking mad. Like for reference, my max bench was like 305. So he's got another 50 kilo on me. That's obscene. Yeah. Fair enough.

49:31Cal:When you're, when you're training

49:32Chip:for that deadlift and just in general at Strongman, how many calories do you consume in a day? Oh, a minimum of 10 ,000 that would be like a very bad day like missing meals and shit really that's like

49:45Cal:you know that's like almost like not far off a week for me five of my days and you've just done it one day yeah that's

49:52Chip:that's because those eating challenges on your YouTube channel always do really well for you they're good to watch them because I'll be sat there

49:58Cal:watching it like so I actually did a video

50:02Chip:on here I did this video how many years ago four years ago I look at this like Will Strongest Mike right so what i want to know so the way i got the info for the day was i just googled it right okay and one of the things if you go right to the beginning here stan um is it's all to do with like the supplements that you took yes and it was like it told me something like like uh 14 different supplements is is that right i was yeah here we go click there i was looking at this like is this guy really taking like all these like genuinely 14 different things oh probably way more i probably probably dumbed it down there yeah no supplements were again like if there's something that did 0.1 difference to your performance you were doing it so like let's say physio made 0.1 supplements made 0.1 by the time you've added all these little things up you've added 5 performance if it made a difference i was fucking doing it yeah so 14 is probably low really being honest but man i wouldn't have spent any more money on them anyways wait keep going go along because I want to show you yeah so this one I think I had to eat yeah I had 10 ,000 calories and then at the end I think I end up I was just doing like

51:13Cal:some lifts and there's no way you actually got close to the 10k though right no I yeah I got to like 5 or

51:19Chip:6k and I was tapping out look at look at that man that's 300 fucking kilos boom bro absolutely ripped that bar

51:27Cal:off the ground you look alright there

51:29Chip:to be fair actually no but you know what I like about those weights and the CrossFit Donnie's, they love this. It looks like there's a decent amount of weight on this. I'm not joking to you, man. I think it's like 110 kilos, 100 kilos, something like that. Like just, yeah, about a fifth of what you managed to get off the ground. But yeah, when we found out that we were having you. Good form. Good form, yeah, happy with that. Good fucking meat as well, I'm not going to lie. What do you reckon is the biggest mistake people make when it comes to deadlifts in terms of form? Oh God, I mean, deadlift seems the simplest, but it's one of the most complicated lifts on the planet.

52:02like yeah when i have people deadlifting front of me to critique them honestly i could probably rinse about 15 different things that are wrong on a deadlift with somebody

52:11Chip:jesus i i think i actually watched the video where you did that where somebody asked you and you you just kept going like it was like okay you need to fix this and then yeah i know that i know this and the list just went on you could see the guy's face there's a guy called nathan um or nathaniel yeah was he a gym shark guy yeah yes um again i'm i'm I just haven't slept very well. I can't think of the name. Nathaniel. Messiah. Is it Messiah? Is it something like that? Yeah. It's a weird second name. Yeah. But yeah, he sort of got me on his channel to critique his deadlift and I absolutely rinsed him.

52:44I think this is the video that I saw. And he's a world record powerlifter. And I was like, mate, it's fucking dog shit. But that's a compliment to him. Like a massive compliment.

52:55Chip:If you're lifting the way he's lifting. He's doing that. Exactly. He's lifting the way he's lifting and he was getting these world records, I was like, mate, yeah, but you could be so much better if you make these little tweaks. And I think he took it in in the end. But he liked it, so he's not going to turn around and say you're wrong. Did he not push back on a few of the bits? I think he did, but that's what you do. Everything's about trial and error and everyone's got different levers and strengths and weaknesses. But I've just been in the game that long and I can take one look at someone deadlifting and I can tell you if you can improve or not.

53:26And he could definitely improve, whether he liked it or not.

53:28Chip:there's room for improvement hey look at least you had to you know taking the time and going and doing that like if you don't want to take it on board you don't want to take it on board but at the end of the day like why not um another thing that's got wildly popular not i personally i'm not

53:42Cal:a fan of it but i'd love to get your thoughts on this is power slap because it looks mortifying

53:48Chip:when they just drop to the floor have you you be have you been to these things have you seen it yeah so i actually run my own power slap show in dubai right doing one at the end of this month for the slap fight championship. Mate, this is, I can't watch the videos. I can't watch.

54:01Cal:The face is before. It's fucking evil. It's evil. So I took a load of bare knuckle fighters over from the UK and I've got to be honest, half of them got knocked out. These are like seasoned bare knuckle fighters, like proper hard bastards and they just weren't prepped for it, man. Like they got fucked up, most of them. And being in the room, I remember one of the guys, super nice guy. Guys, fucking I. What the fuck? I think that's fucking Photoshop.

54:27Chip:buddy i don't realize it looks like the fucking goonies it's so rough to watch yeah um but yeah i watched a guy get slapped knocked out and he's literally stopped breathing like his chest wasn't moving and then about 30 seconds later he's like and he came to her and i was like fucking i thought he was gone bro so god yeah he must have so uh you say you got your own um event and it goes on in dubai like are these lads like taken to hospital life like what is the yeah because it genuinely looks like there's a guy taking away a concussion there was a guy taking away tory's bicep there's a guy dislocating his shoulder like it's a rough sport have you done it no have you been slapped or slapped no and to be honest mate i'm fairly certain of this as well like the because i know i can bang like i i've got the hardest recorded punch on the planet I know I can bang.

55:19Oh, really? So you put me, you put someone in front of me, even with like a palm. If you let me hit you as hard as you fucking can, I don't care who you fucking are. You're getting knocked out. Yeah. And the thing is with this, it's who gets, you flip a coin and it's who gets that first slap.

55:35Cal:Oh, because most of them could knock each other out, to be honest. So you keep like, there's that, the guy that, yeah. Yeah.

55:45Well, yeah, you know, I could go, I could go in and like, yeah, and he's going to smash that. If he gets that first hit in, there's a good chance I'm getting knocked out. Yeah. You know? Because it doesn't matter how tough you are. You get one of the, like, you get a palm on the side of your chin by a 400 pound man. I'm sorry. You're going to fucking sleep. Okay, who you are.

56:04Cal:What's in it for these guys? It's a decent prize money. Like, what's making them get in there and go, you know what? You would hope so. Yeah, I think power slap is, I think, yeah, slap fighting in general is, the money's coming in. Okay. I think power slap are putting some very, a very decent prize money up now. And what is it? Tournament format? Yeah. So I think, yeah, tournament format. I've got it to go through.

56:23Chip:Like you would at USG. Yeah, you'd fight someone and if you beat him, you move up a rank. Oh, okay. Yeah. And it's five slaps each, best of five, marked on points, that kind of thing. So what's that say? The base pay is$2 ,000 per fight.

56:36Cal:So just getting in there, you get yourself two grand. There you go. And look at that. So a top level slap fighter is earning 225 grand a year. I would say more than that. I would say that I'd be like 200 grand per fight.

56:46Chip:really yeah the top the top top who is this who's at the top fight bonus is there is there any popular guys very distinctive looking you'll know the top guys when you see them because you just keep seeing the videos yeah around on social media but i don't know him by the name the russian guy

57:00Cal:called pudding or something i don't know pudding i don't know sounds nice i don't know it sounds

57:04Chip:nice you don't want to be on the other end of a slap slap your head off your shoulders yeah man I just can't watch the videos I just can't watch them

57:15Cal:I like squirm a bit when I see it so that guy at the top left is that Dane

57:21Chip:Dane Venus I've seen loads of videos of him and he eats the slaps up and gives them fuck me does he give them and it's all done with weight categories we've got heavy weight and that's what it is the bigger they are the harder they fall when they get knocked out man it's all yeah geez well that that heavy chip everywhere i think he's like 400 pounds he's a big fucking dude and i'm just thinking about like your brain is taken yeah that's the thing you it'd have to be big money well i'd do it for i'd do it for a million yeah don't do it

57:55Cal:for a dime like surely you can't stay in this for many years as well yeah you're asking for trouble later in life yeah 100 that's why it's going to be worth it just one slap and it could all yeah it could all be there's a guy from poland who died um yeah i met the bloke who killed him oh shit and what is that have you spoken to him about dumpling not pudding don't close enough

58:18Chip:same thing yeah honestly same vibes yeah did you speak to that person once he'd killed him i suppose but like did you have you spoken to him about that like does he feel a level of guilt or is it just it's part of the game he's a polish fighter there's not much english in him but i met the bloke and he seemed like a nice enough guy but yeah he just slapped someone in Poland doing a flat slap slap fighting contest and yeah and just never woke up that's that's heartbreaking yeah but yeah like I said I mean it also just doesn't surprise me though with things like that

58:48Cal:you take you're running a risk getting into this
