In short
Tottenham transfer talk and squad-building under new manager Frank (vs Ange), focusing on whether Spurs should sign Eberechi Eze or Mohammed Kudus, plus debate about Tottenham’s PSR/financial constraints and need for investment. They also discuss Ange’s youth usage, a prediction/banter about Tottenham beating PSG in the Super Cup, and a “weird lube” fan question story.

Key claims
- Eze is seen as a “sure bet,” but the Eze deal looks “dead in the water.”
- Kudus at ~£65–£85m is viewed as too expensive, though some argue he fits Spurs’ right-side needs and could start.
- Tottenham’s lack of spending is blamed on Daniel Levy/Tavistock/ENIC not injecting cash, despite “PSR headroom.”
- Frank will be more tactically flexible and defensively pragmatic; some hope Spurs sign fewer players and rely on coaching.
Notable examples
- West Ham paid ~£40m for Kudus; Spurs debate whether £65–£80m is justified.
- Arsenal/PSR comparisons and examples of other clubs’ investment models (e.g., Chelsea’s Clear Lake, Liverpool/Arsenal approach).
- Youth-player question referencing players like Mikey Moore and Ajayi/Adrien, and whether Ange gave them chances.

1:34It's the fighting. Cock! It's the fighting.
1:42It's the fighting. Cock! Oh, come on, shut up! Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Fighting God Podcast. Just got to mention, obviously, there's very sad news of Diogo Jota passing. But just before we hit record, anyone in the football family passing in this way with three young kids is just grim. and actually boys it it makes you just stop doing stupid trivial stuff getting caught up in wasteless stupid arguments online and trivial shit and you're getting you know annoyed by things that are going on and stuff you can't control because and it's a cliche your life is short and it can be taken from you in an instant pretty grim news john rick yeah hug your kids hug your loved ones tell your friends you love them set up some time to see your friends and speak to your friends because yeah life's short I think um we were talking just before we were recording we don't we don't know him we don't like know his family and stuff like that but when you see people in the public eye you feel like you know them and we watch football every weekend and we've seen him play a million times and that kind of thing so you have this closeness and because lots of people know the same person it does sort of it's a it's a good well stark reminder for everyone about how fragile life is and how quickly these things can change so try and enjoy every moment man it's very very sad yeah totally yeah um all right lots happening in the world of tottenham i just i kind of felt like there might be an opportunity to kind of have some downtime and you know but um we're always finding new things to talk about and this week it's the fact that Ezra Dill is now seemingly dead in the water if it was even alive in the air.
3:25It's the opposite of dead in the water. Alive on land, maybe, I guess. And kudos from West Ham feels like it may well be happening. This was originally reported, wasn't it, via Twitter from at WHUXemployee, who's, as we know, is well-connected, if not the club, effectively. And they mooted the fact that Kudus would be available for transfer and Spurs were interested. £85 million feels like a lot. How do you feel about it, actually? Because going from Eze to this is a big shift. I'm relatively comfortable with it, but it kind of feels like out of the two, Eze is more of a sure bet. I know they're different kind of players and they do different things.
4:14the profile's different and in fact you know Ezzet plays much more centrally but it felt like more of a sure bet with Ezzet who's most likely to be able to perform or go into the team and kind of start quickly but I'm not uncomfortable with Kudus either John how do you feel? I mean I like both players I think they're both really talented they're both decent they would probably both be really useful in our squad Kudus on the right and Ezzet in more of a central position for me would be really good. I would like us to sign both. I would like us to have gone out and gotten both. That's really what I want.
4:49I want those two players and a six. That's what I personally want. So it is kind of frustrating that we seem to be like dilly-dallying around both these deals and certainly the Eza one looks like it's going to just disappear and that is really frustrating because I feel like we've been linked with him forever. Like even before he was at Palace we were linked with him then. So it's kind of frustrating that we just for whatever reason and we've been courting him for all this time and then we haven't managed to get it done. That's frustrating. With the Kudis one, 85 million is too much money for me.
5:23I think he's a really decent player and I'm not saying we will end up matching his release clause, but when it starts getting like 65, 70 million, I'm a bit like, really? He is decent. There's a lot of potential there. But I heard a lot of people saying, oh, West Ham fans were frustrated because he downed tools and then people, the counter argument is, but they were shit and they were a mess and justifiable. Okay, that's fine. But the outcome is I just haven't seen enough from him to justify 65, 70, 75, 80 million. That seems fucking wild to me. But I do like him as a player, so we'll see where they get the deal done.
6:01West Ham paid 40 million pounds for him. 40 million euros. So they want to see a return on that. They don't want to just sort of break even, do they? He's under contract, although he does have that release clause, 85 million pound is mental but yeah way too much 55-60 maybe if you want if we're desperate to get him in I don't know I think it's like John was saying it's it's like as I was destined to play for Tottenham do you know what I mean the rumours and our paths have crossed on many different times but it just hasn't worked out and then he had a box at Tottenham and there's rumours of someone in his family supporting Tottenham and I think there was a bit as well when he was about to take a corner and the Tottenham fans were shouting at him to sign for Tottenham and he had a smile and a wink kind of thing and all these different bits.
6:58And it's like we've been massively linked with him for two seasons now and I thought this season would be the season they've won the FA Cup. It's kind of like, okay, he's done his time at Palace now. He's ready to move on to a bigger club, bigger opportunities, playing in the Champions League now, that kind of thing. And it just seems like... And also there was this rumour of payment instalments where there was going to be a large payment up front and then we were like, fuck, we're not going to be able to do that. Then it was rumoured that we're able to pay 20 million over three seasons. so that was like more manageable and we'd go for it but now it's like totally dead in the water and with that it's like again we could do with both the the different players different positions but as a is just like i don't know man he is one of those players that he i think he would just flourish at tottenham and that kind of the ceiling which i think he would be able to get to he would get to at Tottenham and it's just going to be a massive shame for a player of that ability that we I feel like that he's gettable that we're just going to let him go to one of our rivals now it might be Lagunas it might be City whoever but someone's going to snap him up and we're just sitting on our hat it feels like we're sitting on our hands really and we're going for a different option but you can only say and put your hands up and be like frank's across this do you know i mean he said to the board or he's indicated i think could us would be a better fit for us if i've if i want if i've got a choice between paying between these two i'd want both of them but if i have to pick one i would pick kudos because he can do xyz he's a different profile to brennan he you know kudus is still returning from injury so we're a bit light on that right hand side area and all these other different bits whereas i think centrally like in the 10 and the advanced eight i think we can kind of cover it even though i would like there to be more competition more depth Premier League ready he's exactly what we want so it's disappointing that that deal more than likely won't come off for us if we just did Kudus, Warton and Eze that would be a blinding window perfect absolutely what do you think that would cost?
9:45so let's like you're talking 75 to 85 million for Warton at least yeah let's say like where are we with Kudus at the moment we're bidding what let's say 65 it probably get there with 65 which is a lot but let's just say 65 so it's another 65 so we've already broken like 100 100 odd million and then as a is what gonna go for that 65 again right so we're nearly at 200 million basically to get them done okay which is our psr headroom as it goes so if someone wants to just chuck us 200 mil we'll get this done well there we go i mean interestingly i did a podcast with ben white who he's been on the lab a few times and he's coming out tomorrow and we went through the entire backroom staff and really tried to understand what everybody's roles are but we also talked about the shareholders in Lewis Daniel Levy's role as a shareholder and also the shit that the people in trust for Lewis and it was his understanding not in his understanding like he he's in the know but he's just based on the behavior is that to have a stock and not interested in injecting money into Tottenham because Tottenham is just one part of a massive business that they have.
10:56They're just an investment company. They're not Clear Lake at Chelsea. They're not the same. They're not cronky at Arsenal. They're not like any other model we've got. I mean, they're not like Tony Bloom at Brighton. He's got his money he's injected in. So that injection of cash is not coming from, certainly not coming from Tavistock. It's coming, it might come from elsewhere if we can get some investment but that would be what it would require now you think right what have we got tottenham you've got 79 million pound in cash which is the amount of future expenditure of all players bearing in mind we still owe 300 million pound on players that we have currently in our squad it's the second or third biggest i think um money owed to other clubs um so that money's not going to be available you've got 100 million pound ish of TV rights money and you've got the Champions League money that you get the group stages paid up front which is about 25 million and then you earn the money as you go on so cash isn't there as far as I understand it you can loan it I guess but we've already we already owe 300 million so I just don't think we can afford that but what I know Rick's gonna ask exactly the same What I don't understand is, right, I know the Gooners have finished second season after season last season.
12:19They've had Champions League runs, blah, blah, blah. But they don't... What they generate from football football, fair enough, right? But we generate shitloads out of football, which you would think would at least equate to something similar. They sign, like, £150 million worth of players every fucking summer and have done for the last few years and pay more wages. Yeah, but what... The wages do... There's no end for them. They're about to do it again. So why can't we do it again? I just, I cannot understand, no matter how many times it's explained to me about fucking amortization, which is the buzzword that is doing my head in more than anything else.
12:56I'm getting to the point where I hate amortization as much as I hate the word var, because it's just fucking nonsense and annoying. Amortization. No, it's not nonsense. Obviously, it's a real thing, but it's annoying that now everyone's going, yeah, but you've got to factor in amortization. Fuck that. Just spend more money. I don't care about this. I don't understand how every other club doesn't seem to be impacted by all the stuff that we're impacted by, yet we generate fuck loads of revenue because we're always in the top of the highest earning club in the world. Tottenham are number three. But yet we haven't got any money.
13:27We can't spend it. Amortisation and blah, blah, blah. I don't care about that. Where's the fucking money? Where is it? Yeah, John. Yeah. We made a loss. We lost money last year. Don't care. Just pump some more in. I don't care. I don't like it. i don't i don't i don't get it like i lost money i know i know how we've lost money but like moving to the stadium was mooted as you know where this is going to bridge the gap that increased revenue from that you know one of if not the most expensive season tickets in europe and then all the go-kart fucking nfl concerts everything that's coming into the club and it's like, mate, we've had a good, we've had a good year.
14:11What's, what's in the kit? He go and have a look. Oh, this is a bit of paper. It just says, I owe you. We're, we actually owe money.
14:21What is the point of any of this? How does Arsenal don't sell anyone? Chelsea buy a billion players every season. Don't sell anyone. How have, and they've got nowhere near the amount of revenue. I don't get it. I can explain it. I can explain it. Okay. Okay. Well, the Chelsea thing is that they've, they've literally, they would be in massive trouble and wouldn't be able to spend but they've sold their women's team to themselves and the hotels so that's how they've got now got so much money that injection of money has come from clear lake or another company into a holding company and then given to chelsea so they've got bundles of cash so quick question why don't we today just do that because we don't have the money to do it we don't have 200 million in cash where would it come from john tavistock they're not interested that's why we need new owners we need new owners if we want to get out of this current situation.
15:07However, there is a way of doing it and it's the way that Liverpool have gone about it and Arsenal have gone about it, which is spending significantly but making the right decisions. Spurs have spent a lot of money but made the wrong decisions on players and managers. And that's really what it's about. It's about the quality of decision-making. And so there will be a time when we get investment where we'll have lots of money and we'll be able to do that thing like the sell the women's team to ourselves but at the moment the money isn't it just isn't there the in terms of our ability to spend and be compliant with the rules we've got a great advantage we just got not got an owner in tavistock or enic that wants to inject cash in a way that clear lake do and the way that arsenal and that's why we need we need new owners and what about this when we built the stadium we didn't pay that with our own money did we we took out massive fucking loans to pay stuff to take out a massive fucking loan for players and pay it back in the future like we could do that couldn't we yeah i guess so what so this is what i mean i just don't understand it doesn't seem to happen very often or if well sure because i imagine it would cost like yeah exactly but this is the thing isn't it you can't the chairman can't come out and go i want to win the champions league and i want to win the league and then go but we haven't really got any money to do it yes if you're going to frame it as going like look we're not in a position to do it now what we're in a position to do now is build a strong foundation so that in three or four years when we have the money we'll challenge for the champions league in the league that's what we're going to do bear with us i'll be like cool i'm on board you've literally come out and gone we want to win the champions league in the league if that's me and i've just said that i'm going i need to explore every avenue to get the money to maximize our psr to give us the best chance to do those two things that is what is pissing everyone off i think is you're saying one thing and your actions are doing another they will find the money to build that fucking hotel i guarantee you that yeah and that's why it's bullshit and that's why everyone should be fucking losing their head because yeah when when they want to do something they'll find the money but when we need and we've got headroom and daniel levy's been the one that chairman and who's been all over this fucking psr bullshit when the rules change we'll take advantage the rules have changed daniel take advantage we've We got 200 million headroom.
17:25Take advantage of that because we could go and outstrip other clubs that we're competing against to get back in the Champions League and give yourself the best chance to get back in it to guarantee more revenue going forward. It's speculate to accumulate time. If we don't do that, like we did finish 17th. We were pretty fucking far off finishing in the top four. We got through because we won a tournament that guaranteed us Champions League football. So there's no guarantee that next season we'll qualify for it unless we invest in the squad. So this is getting to a point where, and I'm not trying to get pre-annoyed here, because we might end up signing what we need.
17:59But if we don't, that's just negligent. Because we are miles off finishing in the Champions League places based on what we've seen from a league form. So he needs to fucking come up with a solution. That's what he gets paid mega money for, the most in the league. Come up with a solution to find a cash injection to get the most out of our PSR headroom. Because otherwise, what is the fucking point of all? Well, I think the motives of some, I want to say most supporters feel exactly the same way. Where is the aggressive ambition rather than the kind of passive approach to owning a football club? Which has seen us succeed in many ways commercially.
18:44And like you say, when that investment comes, it will free up cash. like Newcastle in a difficult situation because they can't spend the money because the club hasn't been run very well for 20 years so it may come to fruition um at some stage um bemused musings he says not sure if this is uh revisionism as a gutted Ange has as I'm gutted Ange has left however since seeing his interviews where he said he's chucked that he was chucked the league he chucked the league why did he not give academy talent more opportunity including for example of the Bodo stars. Feels a waste that he not least tried.
19:22Yeah, it does kind of, with hindsight, looking back at Angie's decision-making in the league, I don't want to start, it doesn't matter really. I don't want to start beating him, using this as a stick to beating with, but he still played his best possible team bar the defenders. What was the move there? Why didn't these kids get a bit more of a shot or would it have been just too much, just throwing them into the firing line and what would you have done as manager Rick? Yeah I mean I think it would have been I mean our league form was pretty dire and even though we were fielding senior players similar kind of formation and philosophy still it just wasn't happening in the league and obviously with the senior defenders being rested for Europa is it too much to be filled in a lot of our other players, I mean I remember where Mikey Moore, he was out for a while virus or something like that, it took a while to come back, but I am surprised that we, like I can't remember the lad's name, who scored against was it Elfsborg?
20:43Ajayi? Ajayi? Yeah, yeah. Adrien where's he been like not not seen since and I would have thought Scarlett may have got more opportunities some other lads as well if we just chuck them out and then we still get embattered though is that good for them well they're going to be playing they're going to be playing for Tottenham so they they need to learn the hard way they they no we're never going to see any of them they'll be playing for Peter but Ricky more than likely but i would yeah i don't know i can't answer your question on that but i would have thought you would see uh not like it would have been sweeping changes that we'd filled a lot of our youth but i would have thought we'd see more do you know what i mean at least like mikey moore given 70 minutes or i mean he probably was i know he has he's got a track record of blood in the ute.
21:41Yeah, for sure. For sure. I mean, he's got a track record for that and a general player development as well. Maybe he's looking at it. And I've got what I need. I've got the players I can develop. I've got, at the moment, I don't need a great deal to start progressing at Tottenham. Like, he's only just got there. You might see, you know, given his track record, as you just said, about his ability to develop players and get more from players, other managers previously could, and turning championship players into very good Premier League players, he might look at this as a start of the journey and going, I don't need a great deal here.
22:19Now, as Spurs fans, we're like, fuck that. Yeah. We want three big players, please. But he may, as the manager, go, I don't need it. Similarly to Slott, said, I don't need a great deal. And I'm not saying we're going to go and win the league, right? Obviously not. but would you allow him that freedom, Rick? Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course. So if he'd just come back and say, look, we're not going to be busy. We're not going to be busy. I know what I've got. There is going to be progression this season, but this is part of my plan. Would you be all right? Fair enough, Frankie. It depends what you coin as busy, like five players.
22:55No, no players. No more players. Just none. Just none. No, no, I'd be annoyed. I'd be bloody annoyed. But would you give him the freedom to do what he needs to do? I mean, we've brought him in as a new manager to change things, so he has to be given the opportunity to do that. But I'd be every home game, cross on my arms, really, probably not even watching the pitch, looking at him, just staring at Frank for 90 minutes. Not one player, Frank. This is what you wanted, was it? But the thing is, what does make me believe a bit more is just that he really wanted Johnson at Brentford. He really wanted Gray at Brentford.
23:39So he knows what, you know, their ability, what they're capable of, their ceiling, and how he expected them to play at Brentford and where they would fit in his team. So he's got an idea of how to bring them into the fold, like Gray specifically, and how to push Johnson on and where to best utilize his talent, which is great. And then you've got Bergvot as well. Also, that I'm kind of like with Ange, and I know this is caveated, he didn't play like this all the time. and the games in Europe, more defensive and solid, more pragmatic. I get it. But there were times where we were watching both fullbacks invert, racing forward, and our centre backs were spread so far apart.
24:40The passing lanes weren't there. And when we're playing a game where we're passing out from the back, it got difficult. we'd lose the ball sometimes also as we're moving forward and someone's in a in a low block we're finding it hard we're moving the ball side to side we're not really getting anywhere we'd lose it in midfield madison would push off the ball quick transition and i remember watching opposition midfield just fucking sprinting through open fields there was no one to challenge them poro and the doggy was so far forward and i just think with frank he'll be more pragmatic and he'll be the the defense like van de vent and romero will have more protection because we won't be playing that open and that aggressively attacking one would assume so the kind of thought process of we lost 23 games last year and we weren't great defensively because of xyz and other bits and pieces and we couldn't you know we drew 1-1 because we were unable to break down that opposition i think points will be won in those those bits because we were we will be defensively tighter and he is known for his uh kind of able to move the ball in that final third and he's better at attacking so i think he's probably looking at those parts and thinking do you know what we i'm quite comfortable with having a double pivot right and it's going to be helping the defense out so i just feel like maybe he doesn't need loads of players maybe he just needs to get everyone back in training and to have a look at them so do you know i mean i don't know you've talked yourself into it he doesn't you would be okay do you know what i i actually like genuinely now thinking and talking about i think we should have less players just sell them sell more and have a really tight squad of 16 players that's it john is there any word for you he comes out and goes i don't want any players we're fine i mean look anything's possible uh with spurs i was gonna say i sort of broadly agree with rick just to build on what he's saying i think definitely frank will get more out of the players.
27:02I think his background, his coaching and improvement of players is really evident. I think he'll be more tactically fluid, which is one of the big complaints we had about Ange. One of the reasons why I think he should want to sign some players, though, is to go back to the point we were making about, you know, why didn't Ange play more players when he said he wrote off the league? I don't believe him. I don't think he did write off the league. I think he was trying to win those games and we weren't very good and we lost those games because he just basically wasn't able to get us to the standard to be able to win those games maybe the players the Europa League has sort of worn off a little bit you kind of look back and go we did lose a lot of games in the league we were shit we were shit in a lot of games and it wasn't it wasn't youth players making mistakes it's Ricky's point they just it was so many times it was the same goal running through the middle of midfield or one of our fullbacks is completely out of position just to cut back and they're completely unmarked at the back post I saw that goal 20 times at least last season that wasn't us going oh it doesn't matter we're just going for the Europa League like I think that was very clever protection from Ange and my sort of smoking gun reason why I think that's absolute bollocks is the man literally had a meltdown because we didn't want to win against Arsenal because we didn't want to hand them the title he could not get his head around it because he was like I want to win every game I want to win every game even if it goes against my interests right well why didn't you want to win every league game against your interest of winning the Europa League so I just don't believe him I think it was spin and that's why I do believe this squad whilst it could perform better I do think it has major issues and there were lots of players that we were frustrated with last year that would basically be key players again going into next year if we don't sign players so we have to sign a couple please please Thomas I think it would be well funny if we didn't just all we did was sell Richarlison I'd be fine with that what do you think happens dude he stays like is you thinking about Solanke do you think that potential you know we talked about it on the Patreon pod Rick you know about that what is our number nine backup if Richarlison's there it's got to be him he has to be used if he isn't sold if you can get money for him that would be really good we could have Tell as a backup nine does he start Tell is Tell now starting left sided forward is that the case and then so it all depends really on what Richarlison decides to do like if he go back to Everton Calvert-Lewin's loss leaving them that would be a good place for him to go back and play football where he's absolutely adored or does he want to kind of start still make it at Tottenham I'm not sure but just going back to Kudus I think if that signing does happen he is sort of perfect really if you think about it just his attributes his one-on-one threat he's had more successful take-ons than anyone else in the last two Premier Leagues and I know West Ham fans have been talking about how he sort of fell off and he wasn't the same player as he was last year and like you said John it's kind of systematic issues that could be responsible for that but one thing you cannot take away from him is he loves to drive at defenders and go past them and what's the biggest problem with Brendan Johnson is he cannot do it he cannot get past his man you get him in the right position to deliver a pass across link up play he's very good at that but the one thing you really need when you're attacking and your forwards have got the ball is can they go past their player and can they make the defender think and Brendan Johnson has a lot of good attributes but that's one thing that's missing bringing Kudis in will just give us another option and he probably would probably for that money would end up starting but also you know he's pressing ability speed pace is just it all just sort of makes sense so if there is only a couple of players coming in and that's based on Frank's instruction then I'd kind of be comfortable with that but I'll be very much in the minority I think I'd be like 99 % this first time this has been a terrible summer and to be fair it probably would be and I am throw out a a hot take prediction yeah go on yeah go on I think Frank is going to convert Brennan Johnson into a striker yeah because he's done it before with other players where he's like moved them from wide players into goal scoring players John what's Johnson's best attribute probably is finishing he's he's quick he's he's not good at going past people he's not great at crossing so it's like what is the point of playing him out wide unless you're playing like angie system where you want someone constantly arriving at the back post but you're not getting enough out of them if we sign kudus you've basically got kudus and kulu as like your two right wing options who both want to like cut in and find angles and shoot and want to take on their man so that means you need someone who's in the box who can tuck away stuff.
31:54He's not small Johnson as well. He's probably similar building physique to Solanke, for example. I feel like he might convert him in certain games into a striker. And I think if he does, I think he'll probably do quite well there. So that's my outfield, left field prediction. I think we might see him play through the middle quite a lot. That's not a bad chat, you know. he played eight I think it was eight different formations maybe it was six four different formations last year three of those formations had two up front 3-5-2 he played a 5-3-2 a 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 so it could well be and a lot of people have said that Brendan Johnson in the old 4-4-2 system would have been the right sided striker so you could see Sonny playing in that as well because again he's another player you don't want out wide anymore he's not as effective there if you're playing a 4-4-2 and having Sonny just like Solanke just winning headers, knockdowns and setting up Sonny for finishes that kind of would work quite well so I do think there's maybe something in that and I think this is the thing that is the most exciting about Frank and the most exciting about us next season is there's so much potential options of how we could play that that could really become our biggest strength is that you go from like oh this is the way we play and if it works it's amazing we're going to be a team where it's like I don't even know what we're going to do today and the opposition don't really know and if we can get to a point where the players are so comfortable being that flexible that flexibility in itself becomes a strength that becomes our identity it's like they don't know what they're going to get and whatever they get is going to be really effective that's the most to me that's the most exciting thing about Frank is I go into that PSG game going I don't know how we're going to line up against them but I know he knows is what he wants to do.
33:46And that will give us half a chance, right? We might not always win every game, but I think he will go into it with a plan for every single opponent. And that to me is really exciting because then it gives us a chance. So that's, yeah, I'm excited about it. I don't know how we're going to line up against PSG, but I know we're going to get beat. 35:53Jägermeister liqueur, 35 % alcohol by volume. Imported by Mass Jägermeister US, White Plains, New York. That's how I feel about it. I think we're going to beat them. I think we're going to beat them. I think we're going to smash them up and it'd be well funny. And I'll tell you why it'd be well funny. Obviously winning the Super Cup, obviously saying like, oh, we're the best and the best. But also just, you know, Arsenal's whole lot, well, we smashed them up on XG, but we went out. It's like, well, we just smashed them up and won a trophy, mate. So that just shuts that down as well. It's one more or a trophy in the...
36:21So what would be great is, because honestly, deep down, I think the Super Cup, you get a cup for a one-off game. I don't think it's like charity shield who cares some people think but the Super Cup is different right because and I've sort of reneged on my previous position before because if say say if Chelsea were playing Real Madrid in the Super Cup and they won I'd be like who gives a shit it's one game it doesn't count now that we're in it I'm going to go this is fine because if PSG not only win they've won the Champions League they win that Club World Cup thing and then we beat them we are the best team in the world then yeah i was thinking about that the other day because that because that you couldn't argue with that like what is anybody can you imagine how much fuel i would have going on to these fucking programs i have to go and i was like we're the best team in the world what what wonderful positions i've been sorry what was you saying you're talking to the best team in the world right now we beat the team that beat the team you can't yeah it's called lineage look it up yeah i think i think the luck has changed you We had all this bad luck.
37:31We've been the fucking part of every joke. The curse is lifted, and I think we're about to deliver the curses now. Honestly, I'm really confident. Not that we're going to smash them up, or we're the best team, but I think we're going to spawn our way. Spawny, lucky, fluky, part of the bus. We're going to beat them. We are going to beat them, and then that's going to be the banter. Then we can banter everyone again. It's going to be Warrior Trophy again. yeah with the with the goon you're saying about xg i'd love it love it if we got absolutely battered and like we were fucking tucked up with xg and then we score an oggy and fucking we win 1-0 yeah yeah zero xg win 1-0 we lift the trophy just be like fucking brilliant yeah he's so good beating psg is not for everyone just back just on the feet but i just can't wait i'm pleased we're thinking about doing a social little heads up yes come on do you think there's interest in it yes yeah mate how many times how many times have you seen Tottenham playing a Super Cup never right so I reckon there'll be a little bit of interest in it come on just be a good day alright alright we'll put together and see how many tickets can go if 100 people turn up that'd be alright a few beers in the sun mate this weather exactly this weather look it's basically a lovely pre-season if you win we're the best team in the world if we lose it's just a little pre-season game who cares it's a little warm up yeah yeah yeah you've been a lads yeah alright you've convinced me you've charmed me yes yes

41:48And someone I know was, I think he'd pulled, or he'd been out with his girlfriend, or he'd pulled a bird from like a nightclub. And he takes her back to university. And they're getting down to it. But I think there's been a power cut, or it was pitch black. Which, this is always odd to me. how often people use lube in the bedroom for me it's a very rare occurrence I mean have you got a bottle of Johnson's by the side of the bed Rick? Do you scratch lube all the way? Is it an American thing? I don't know yeah it feels like an American because in American films they're always like before they were wank they're fucking tapping on that little bottle of lube or like moisturiser I'm like what's the fucking matter here mate?
42:39Can you let us know actually is it just an American thing out there before you knock one out, are you always lubing yourself up? It just feels like some clean-up. Yeah, that is. Yeah, a massive amount of clean-up. It's also like... You're treating yourself too much. Sometimes you don't treat yourself that much all the time because it's overindulgent. You want a bit of friction as well, don't you? I mean, it's like... If you're not getting the grip on there, what's the point? Do you know what I mean? It's like if you're doing weights in the gym and someone else is pulling it up, making it a bit easier for you, it's like you need the friction there.
43:11You really need to feel the power. Do you ever pop a condom on just to jazz it up a bit when you're knocking one out? Well, no, because popping a condom on in any scenario makes sex worse, doesn't it? So when people go, oh, yeah, it's like a treat. Why? No, it's not. It's worse. When I was going up, it was called a posh wank. It's putting a condom on. Yeah, exactly. Absolutely mental, completely pointless. Why would anyone do that? It's so much worse. It's actually the worst wank you could possibly do. I don't understand it. it's so mental anyway so he brings um he brings this girl back and they start getting down to it and they're in the position of the dog here and um he's um going going at it and he just thought you know what would be good right now maybe he didn't warm her up enough i don't know what the reason would be but he just went bit of lube right so for some reason he knew or he had pre-arranged to have lube in his top drawer.
44:09He opens the drawer, pulls out a packet, rips it open, and then just goes...
44:18All over his peen. So he then commences to continue to have sex. And then he's like, what's that smell? And I'm like, oh God, this is disgusting. What do you mean, what's that smell? I don't want to know what the smell of your sex is. that's rank. Yeah, any sex story that's got smell involved in it, I'm not interested. No, no, no, at university there was a time when we walked, we walked into this room and the stench came out of it. Two people we know were having sex and he went in there and it was like being hit in the face with an invisible bat. Yeah, dirty bomb. Yeah, dirty bomb. Mustard guy.
44:59So he's going, and he's like, what's that smell? And he turns the light on and there's brown sauce everywhere so that's all yeah I mean literally everywhere I know I used to play football with this bloke who I won't say his name just in case but he looked like Steve Buscemi but more ugly so imagine a more ugly version of Steve Buscemi and he always was just like a rough bloke one of the things he told us is he got so horny once he got so bored of wanking he wanted to feel bit more like closely resembling a vagina so what did he do he got a cold steak out of his fridge he bent it round to make sort of like a little cave and put it between the toilet seat and like try to like squat down and fucked it like that which what is wrong that was wrong with me honestly i could not believe what i was hearing so this is the sort of guy he is and then he told us about basically one of the barmaids at our football club how he'd like got down to business with her and he was like telling us the story and he was like yeah anyway so I was trying to have sex with her and it was just a bit you know a bit dry down there and I was like alright and he goes so I went to the kitchen probably presumably the same kitchen he got the steak from and he just came back with a knob of butter like just a big slab of anchor and then just proceeded to slap it on the fan and just like rub it in and then he was like yeah I needed something to loosen up so I got a roll on like a fucking dove roll on and was using that with butter to get up what the fuck Jesus Christ honestly put down that man imagine that like a right guard right up the old jeez Louise mate isn't it a bit of beef between the two a toilet seat he's doing it in the end he's going that was class that I'm going to tell everyone that's what I mean exactly doing it doing it is pretty bad telling an entire dressing room of lads oh yeah this happened the other night sorry what That is fucking mental.
47:00You did what? Well, yeah. So, butter, basically. But he said it was great, so who knows? But this, you know, just so everyone knows the sort of guy he was, it's probably, I wouldn't do it, to be honest. No. Kerry Gold. Bosh. Lerpac. Bosh. Maddie Spurs says, Lerpac. Probably there. Kudus, Xavi Simmonds, Palina, Cole Peters. as a window with no one essential leaving, would you be happy with that? Kudos to Xavi Simons and Palinia. Yes. Yes. And Carl Walker-Peters, who was a backup right back. Great. Also club-trained. Do you know we have one club-trained player? Do you know who that is?
47:48Is it Austin? Yes, it is. Scarlett. Scarlett's not club-trained. I think he's below over below in that certain age you can put young kids into a squad like Mikey Moore can go in there but you have to have over a certain age I think this is right it's really confusing but the three players or four players club trained you can't then if you don't have those filled you don't reduce the size of your squad you can't add other players apparently how are we think of all the players at Chelsea sign from fucking all over the world how are they compliant you got Colwell Chalabar Chalabar you got you got Rhys James you got a few so so so what so a part of this mismanagement of the squad which goes back to sort of Conte and Mourinho era where we were just buying players for the now and there was this no club wide identity seemingly in place that we just fucking fucked the squad up basically by buying players that were just not we weren't future proof in at all and what's part of Langer's remit would be to buy these young players.
48:54They're at the club for two or three years and they're suddenly club trained. So in a couple of years, Berival and Archie Gray and all the youngins, they're going to be club trained. Anyway. That's good. Yeah. Right. So most people, anyone who's listened to the podcast I did on the lab about, so basically it's been the most controversial thing I've ever done. Wow. And ever put out. Wow. wow never I've never quite had a reaction both positive and negative in a way like people have gone out their way to tell me how fucking shit this podcast was I've had Instagram messages I've got DMs everywhere I've gone there's either people going I fucking love that great insight or more often that was an awful awful podcast um so what we did we about back at about six um about six I can't remember where it was, March sometime.
49:57This guy I called Habib, he listens to the podcast, probably listened to this. And he gave us some insight based on what the Qataris were planning to do in terms of getting into Tottenham and how they want to take over the football club, basically. And then he sent me another message recently and saying there's been an update, basically. And I was like, all right, hold that full. He sent me some information. and I was like, let's record a podcast about it. Because it's part of a newsworthy, right? Massive investment from a part of the world, which is very, it's like a political hot potatoes. Either you love it or you absolutely hate it.
50:31That's a really interesting podcast to have, I thought. And so he came on the pod and essentially explained how the whole thing is broken down in large part due to Daniel Levy's mismanagement of it or deliberate sabotage of it. Sabotage may be too strong a word, but it's similarly how he would, this is the way Habib described it and go and listen to it. By all means, it's still up there. The way Habib described it was that Joe Lewis or the Lewis Trust agreed to sell very quickly. But they said you have to deal with Daniel over his percentage. And that's when it all went tits up, basically. so whether you like it or not there could have been a world right now where Qataris were effectively in process of taking over Tottenham if it wasn't for Daniel Levy that was the crux of the podcast yeah um and so the so I guess where before before I go into that how does that how does that how does that make you feel one way or another if that is the truth we don't know if it's true but it's based on Habib's word who was apparently had someone in or was was directly connected to the negotiations about Bayern Spurs how do you feel about it the fact that it was so close and then it didn't happen does it bother you do you want do you want Qatari owners you want Petro State money does that there's money coming from that area of the world bother you it bothers me I'd much rather us not have it yeah i mean i'd much rather not have it but i do want the money and it's like uh yeah i want all the players but but there are ways to win without doing that i think yeah there are but i think as well like no matter what billionaire you get in there's always kind of like nefarious ways of how they got their money it's like they didn't do it by being nice to everyone and it's just there's always i don't know it just feels like there's always a murky kind of joe lewis our own way of yeah of how they obtained their wealth so it doesn't really matter matter which way you go there's always going to be an undertone or kind of a political factor or would you whatever it might be all right let me say it another time would you be okay with or would Would you be okay with the fact that Tottenham would be used as a way to change perception of Qatar and the Middle East from what it is currently to what they hope it might be?
53:16So sort of forget about the kind of migrant worker issues there and really just concentrate on what they're doing for sport. Because that's what's happening. That's what's happening in boxing in Saudi Arabia. That's what's happened at Manchester City. It's part of that sports washing process. Would that be an issue? John, how do you feel about it? Yeah, I mean, look, I agree with Rick. Like, I want all the money. I want the money. I want to sign loads of players, right? And I don't like the idea of that ownership coming in for the reasons that people have already stated, right? But then you could give me another set of reasons why another owner coming in would also be problematic.
53:53They're all going to be problematic for different reasons. And I guess this is the thing, right? Like, if you say you're against, like, child slave labour, we'd all be like yeah but we all have a fucking iphone or something that's the direct outcome of that so in other words i want the iphone i want to sign players but i don't like how that's occurred i.e slave child labor and you know the qatari money so but there's always going to be issues there is no perfect solution there is no like ideal person um that could come in that's just like completely squeaky clean that would come in and give us this money so there's always going to be a trade-off I don't have to like it though right but I think it doesn't mean that I would stop supporting the club or change anything because again there's there's loads of reasons why I don't like the current ownership but I support the institution that is Tottenham Hotspur that's what I support right yeah and so like there's loads of elements of that that I don't like in the same ways loads of elements about my country I don't like but it's still my country I'm still like support and want it to believe in it there's loads of things about certain members of my family that I find frustrating right but I have to find a way forward um so yeah look it's a not an ideal scenario but just going back to like the idea of like talking about it as a concept or like as a podcast I think one of the things that whether it's us or you know like Joe Rogan's the most listened to podcast in the world he gets so much shit for bringing people on talk about subjects that people don't like because he believes that people should have a platform to talk about it so that you can have an open debate so that people can decide whether or not based on that person's views whether they believe it or not so for me personally i'm like pro giving people a chance to talk about their views even if i despise their views because i think if they're that bad we can listen to the argument and then reason why we don't agree with them just by like silencing people are never hearing from things you don't like to me is is a there's not a strong way to like learn and progress as a society so i think it's important to have people on that we don't necessarily agree with yeah there was two things just on that john right there was two things that that habib said i think that what that rattled some people and it was that he was saying that the qataris are he was basically saying that the qataris are good people they're nice people they're professional he was basically talking up the area and i think people felt that i should have hit back at that and said no what about all the migrant worker issues but i wasn't doing a podcast to debate about qatar i was doing a podcast to find out what he knew about the breakdown of the deal and so if i immediately start pushing back on a guest at the start when he's mentioning about Qatari people being good people generally, then are we going to get to the point of the podcast or are you going to risk alienating them?
56:44I don't know. Maybe I didn't manage the conversation in a way that some people would want it to, but then I've had lots of people message me and gone, actually, they got a lot from it. The other issue was that Habib was, he kept diagnosing Daniel Levy as a narcissist and uh which obviously he's convinced that he is but we're not we're not in it we don't have the background in order to be able to really properly diagnose someone and and like i thought i thought that habib might leave it after a cut mentioned it a couple of times but he really sort of doubled down on it and i did say at the end of the podcast i would not qualify to be able to to diagnose him he went i will die on this hill that's the thing though right he's just giving his opinion on both those things right like to him they are nice people they are professional that that's how he sees them right there's again there's a ton of other issues but there's people i know who have bad traits but if you ask me what i thought about them i would say they're positive traits people aren't just one thing or the other like people are are complex and in this scenario he's more thinking maybe his personal relationships not necessarily like the state's behavior towards a specific subject which is like clearly not a positive thing so again it's just like the layers of nuance of a conversation you can't clarify every single point with every single eventuality of every single thing if you like i said if you have a friend and someone asks you oh what do you you know think about this person you go yeah i really like them they're like well what about when they got done for drink driving you're like yeah yeah obviously that bit was bad people for what about when they were nine and they tripped up a kid at school well yeah obviously that was where does it end you can't like clarify every point if you'd have made a specific point about what do you think about their behavior in regards to migrant workers and he went i think it's brilliant fair enough you have to challenge that but that's not what you asked and that's not the point he was making so again i think this is like i think as a society we've lost touch with hearing things we don't like and people having opinions on things that we disagree with and being able to like differentiate that between the topic that they're talking about and being able to like decipher whether or not it's something that you want to believe in and all the this that pod and other pods we've done like for example let's take it less maybe less uh controversial but like leave you out movements right like purple gold people we don't necessarily agree with like everything they're saying there's like maybe four or five points we absolutely agree with what we just don't have them on because we don't like the way that they talk about the club or the way that they some of the things that they say could be deemed as anti-semitic like we we agree that that is wrong and we would say that we don't agree with that part of what they're saying but they you need to hear that to understand why that you don't agree with these things it's really important to do it yeah i 100 agree with you this is second this is the second time we've had him on with this it didn't get the reaction i think it was because he was quite maybe a little bit angry at the situation because obviously he wants Qataris to take over Spurs.

Well, you could move to Antarctica. Sure, frostbite is a thing. Your dating apps won't let you set your radius to 3 ,000 miles. And your neighbor is an emperor penguin who honks outside your igloo. Or you could just keep your Jägermeister in the freezer. Drink it cold, or don't drink it at all.

1:01:20It says, now that you're on the payroll of both Enoch and the Qatari royal family, what are you going to be spending the money on? And the next one from Wiley492 says, dildo moulded for Big John Bass's mum. Mate, there's not enough fucking plastic in the world to mould that shit. I'd buy a big rubber pair of BJB's mum's soapy tits. Did she? She's not aware of this, is she? Nah, nah, nah. She won't be listening. That's fine. What's husband called? Even if she was, I reckon she'd be flattered. What's husband called, Keith? Andy. Andy. Gets involved, does he? Wasn't there a story? Was there a story about this?
1:02:06Yeah. so my wife uh reminds me of this probably once a week to be honest but me and my mom aren't super close but she invited me to her wedding to andy they've been together for years but they decided they'll actually get married right so me and re went and we're sitting down the table and there's a few speeches my mom decides that she's going to give a speech so she's recanting the story of how they got engaged right now there's me at the time mid 30 year old man um i'm sitting there i'm thinking well i don't really get embarrassed by anything nothing really bothers me so like it doesn't really matter what happened to this story it's probably going to be a bit you know like just lovey-dovey story no it's not it's sexually explicit what she does is she just goes yeah so anyway we just had sex and then i'm in the shower soaping myself up and i'm like what the fuck is happening here what the fuck and everyone's just cracking up and i'm like that's my mum i'm just what i know she's i know she's getting smashed to bits by andy i know she is but I don't want the whole room of people to now picture it and I'm like oh for fuck's sake and then she's like yeah I'm soaping myself up and then just as I'm lathered up I turn around and he's there on one knee start bullet naked with the wedding ring I'm like what is happening here how much did your wife love this story she honestly I think that she enjoyed that more than our wedding she was absolutely cracking up and then every time like anything to do with weddings or proposals or mums or anything like even every time she gets in the shower now like she'll go oh come and talk to me so we're chatting away and then she'll go oh don't you want to propose again yeah it's men all that's amazing um like you jump one two three says why the hell did he call you gareth this is back to the podcast is this another nickname of yours we don't know or is flav or mr bateman really that hard or confusing for him to pronounce and remember it's a really boring story but i use something called zencast to report record podcast and when i signed up i used my actual name gareth flavill which is my name not flav my surname's flavill flav and so he just looked at that and called it gareth called me gareth and that was it it's not the first time that's happened but yeah no he wasn't being rude or anything like that um good strong name gareth in it um ewood dizzle i don't know i never really like you mean because of the office is that what you're saying yeah well i'm just trying to be kind it's terrible terrible name but like all of our names are like just basically especially about the h i'm much for john it's like john jones yeah but it's jonathan though and this is the thing right if your name's john j-o-n you're probably a jonathan but if you call yourself jonathan you're a proper twat yeah you've just got to be jonathan i mean yeah anyone i'm not calling you jonathan people that insist on that the people don't shorten their names are fucking bellend yeah aren't they like no my name's actually jonathan so you can call me no mate you're called john you don't get no one gets to give themselves a name you get called something and it sticks that's it yeah that's like what what didn't something you had a name stick at school what are you gonna make up i'm not gonna i don't make things up
1:05:21I mean when I was younger my nickname was the animal no it's more about the getting drunk and having to go to hospital and have your stomach pumped no there wasn't a nickname for that but you created a nickname for me what was that? pissy pants beer boy
1:05:45and then you wrote it in an article called fucking published the whole of North London for fuck's sake. I used to edit a magazine and we were looking for stories about people that drunk excessively. So I've got Ricky to write the story about when he had drunk so much whiskey and stuff when he was a kid. You know, everyone does it. It's like a rite of passage to be absolutely fucked in a park or something. And Ricky got absolutely obliterated on spirits and so badly he had to be pissed and shit himself. Yeah, I was sick, pissed and shit myself. All of it. All of it. Holy Trinity. literally and then and then he had to be taken to hospital where he had his stomach pumped so it's really bad right he could have died yeah yeah but you got him to write that story to as a way to encourage young people to drink sensibly but i just added in print form the fact that his nickname forevermore was pissy pants beer boy yeah and that was public yeah added a bit of seasoning to this let me spice this up oh pissy pants beer boy edward says how uncomfortable did you feel when habib refused to say that neither you or medical neither of you are medical doctors who can diagnose a medical condition no i was fine i was just keeping myself clear and out there really when he said i'll die on the hill that was quite funny so
1:07:06who's a guest on the podcast that you would absolutely kill to have but has refused is not available or rather is not allowed to publicly share information and why someone said judging by the qatar episodes probably kim jong-un
1:07:25that's well funny um i would love him on i'd love i would love to Chats love to chat. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Look at the stories he's got. Fucking sick. It'd be incredible. So a couple of times we've been close. I really, really was close to getting Mark Albrighton. I know this doesn't sound very exciting, but Mark Albrighton on the lab to talk about the running with Tottenham in that season when they won it in Leicester. And how aware were they of Tottenham and the fans and the dressing room? And he was like, we were acutely aware. And all we talked about was Tottenham. Paul who was obsessed and it was going to be a really fascinating thing and he agreed to do it but if you don't do it in that moment their appetite for it dissipates but often they won't commit immediately so he might have just pied me off with a yes but he's a stand up geezer what about what's the actor Lenny James like I'd love to get him on he's a Spurs fan and he's in loads of he's in loads of good stuff and I just really like rate him as an actor I would quite like to talk to him he just seems like a cool guy yeah he is a cool guy he's yeah I won't yeah he is cool there's the other guy another actor as well he's fucking wicked he's like proper sort of lefty liberal guy but he's an older chap now you definitely know who I'm talking about he's got sort of white geezer he's not helping it is it he's a left wing white geezer from London I don't know mate I know who you're talking about I don't know his name He's got Curly A.
1:08:58He's got Curly A. Yeah, yeah. Kenneth Branagh. No, no, no. No, he's a better actor than Kenneth Branagh. Whoa, whoa, whoa. I know. Sir Kenneth to you. Mind your manners, mate. What's your favourite film of him then? Kenneth Branagh. Or is it just like, it's just a fucking icon, isn't he? I like all these Poirot films. He's quality. I can't remember. It doesn't even matter. Even if I find this guy, it's not going to be interesting to say anyway. Fine. Ballasaurus. Dunkirk, if you're asking. not for his performance but that's probably my favourite film that he's in Dunkirk Brenner Dunkirk yeah Holly my great uncle Bill lost his leg at Dunkirk there you go so I can say what I want
1:09:42I'm disappointed you didn't ask Ali Gold what he thinks Thomas Frank's wanking style is when are you going to get him on again to ask him the real questions so we just did an episode of The Lab with Ali Gold which was fantastic so go and listen to that as well I did listen to it and it was brilliant really really enjoyable he's just so is he going to change his handle for Rick that's what I want to know is he going to change his Twitter handle keep misspelling his name Alistair is quite a difficult name to spell yeah I know he's got a D as well it's not like Alistair is it yeah I know let's not mug him off alright he's done us a favour no no no I'm just saying his name he was I always enjoy hearing from him and I think he's a i read all of his articles even though right like even though we are linked with uh as a we know about it right and i've just read his article on it i'll be sitting there and a whatsapp will go and ali's latest article tottenham linked with 70 million megastar and i'm like oh who the fuck is that i gotta click on that click on it it's the same article i just read and he's got me fantastic well done does it all the time yeah he's a legend and he doesn't do many of these things so I was really grateful to have him on anyway we've been going for ages so that'll be the end of the fighting cop podcast for another episode and thank you Ricky thank you John and we'll see you all soon go and listen to the lab bye it's the fight
