In short
This episode is a Tottenham-focused transfer and season-preview chat, framed around the sudden rumour that Spurs are pursuing Savinho (Manchester City winger) for about 50–70 million euros. Hosts discuss how Savinho’s close control, dribbling, and chance creation could fix Spurs’ issues breaking down against low blocks and in transition, especially alongside other wide options like Kudus, plus the return of players such as Odobert and Kulusevski. They cite Savinho’s output as 8 assists in 29 Premier League matches and compare his assist level to Doku. They also debate whether Spurs’ recruitment structure (Langer/Director of Football) is aligned with Thomas Frank’s process, and discuss other transfer news: Jack Grealish to Everton (with concerns about form, motivation, and wage cost) and Archie Gray’s £40m price tag.

It's the fighting. It's the fighting. Cock! It's the fighting. It's the fighting. Cock! Oh, come on, shut up! Hello, welcome back to the fight. What was that, Cal?
1:57I just said I don't like you for no reason and then I threw my hands up and said why did I need to say that that is you I did a podcast with with Trunk the other day which was quite fun and relaxed and you came up twice Cal about essentially how unforgiving and borderline mean like he's just talking to his mate on Twitter and you're like oh Becky Mitchell grow up and he's literally just talking to his friend pathetic you are and I said You should see what he's like on the WhatsApp. It's worse. He completely no-sold it, though. That was the upsetting thing. He posted this lovely thing to Ben Haynes, and I was like, oh, I've been saving this.
2:37And I've just written, thanks for that, Morton Gams Beggerson. I was well happy with that. He completely no-sold it. Didn't reply to it. I was like, gutted, until he went on his podcast and sold the granny out there. Got him. Lovely. Got him. Got him. Right, what's been going on in the world of Spurs? I think broadly, we're teetering on a meltdown across every sort of WhatsApp group, every Twitter group. Anywhere you kind of absorb Tottenham, there is someone melting down. And I appreciate it, I do. You look at some other football clubs and what they're doing. You know, Liverpool spent 293 million, Chelsea 279, Man United 229, Arsenal 224, City 176, and Spurs thus far, basically, including two players that were brought in on loan,£145 million.
3:29Now, the amount you spend is irrelevant, really. It's what can you bring in, what kind of quality do you improve our first XI with this player? And this morning we woke up to what could be a little bomber, boys. The most unlikely signing. I mean, this sort of came out of nowhere. It was almost as if I had heard or would never have imagined that this player potentially would come to Tottenham. And that's Savinho from Manchester City to the tune of somewhere between 50 and 70 million euros. What do you make of it, Mark? Well, I mean, I think I'm quite excited about it. I think he's a really exciting player.
4:14it's a lot of money and it's kind of like you said it's kind of come out the blue yeah man he certainly fits the bill 21 years old really really really good on paper in terms of his potential and his ceiling playmaking like close control dribbling carrying the ball a lot of people have been talking about his output and all that sort of stuff and I want to temper that with the fact that he's playing in City where he's, you know, there's a lot of people bidding to have that, the spot that he sort of sits in in the right wing. But yeah, man, like he could be a really, really class signing for us.
4:54So, yeah, I think, and I think it's there to be, I think the deal's there to be done. And I don't think, you know, City have just signed Ryan Shirky who would come in and compete with him in that position. So if we bid the right money, I think we can play there. I wouldn't say he can play there my understanding his favourite position is on the right hand side yes so Kudus' position is also on the right hand side similarly Kudus can play on the left as well and Kudus can play as well though like Son could play on the right if you asked him to but is he a for sure yeah I mean Ben Davies could play right wing if you wanted him to yeah would he be any good no but like yeah you're right Savigno put up eight assists in the Premier League sorry a few seconds let's go around but he was playing Ben Davies on the left hand side cutting in off the right smashing it in he put up eight assists in 29 matches which is as I was listening to the ball-deaded Manchester City fan you see on things called Big Steve and naturally he will I've never known a man to be able to curve an agenda in his in Man City's favour regardless what happens it's unbelievable but he said that he put up the same amount of assists as Doku the two leading in the Premier League so you're asking about output like that he put up I don't if he said it so I'm presuming it'd be true and he wouldn't say otherwise eight assists in the league for Manchester City is a good outfit but moreover what's exciting about him is he's just it goes past people like we could potentially have two of the most exciting wide men in in the league and um I would take it all day i would take it all day i mean what do you think of it cal yeah do you know what actually it's been it's been an absolute desert hasn't it in terms of transfer kind of activity transfer news there seems to have been a real lockdown on kind of leaks and stuff from the club and i think sometimes we all like to think we're above it like looking at transfer news it's one of the thing we all did as kids remember reading the news of the world as a kid because they always used to have really good transfer rooms all the time.
7:08So I used to read the news of the world. My stepdad used to let me read the back pages of the Daily Sport because they'd have transfer stuff in the back. Your stepdad would bring this Daily Sport into your house? Into our house, yeah. Do you know what a Daily Sport is, Mark? Is it like a red top, but with tits or something? It's just tits. It's not. It's just tits. It's tits in the shape of a newspaper. That's all it is. now they've become kind of like a satirical parody thing where they talk about made up stories the front page would be a midget shoved the mars bar up my ass now i can speak french that would be a headline isn't the running joke that like 15 or 20 of these stories are actually real and it's just like no it's in yeah but back then it wasn't that it was just as it could put as many page-free models in a newspaper as possible and then have some sport on the back yeah yeah i remember when 9-11 happened and they had like real news on the front page like 9-11 it's like this awful thing that's happened and then 9-12 they didn't carry on the 9-12 it was lorraine kelly's tits on the front page it's just like yep back to normal again let's go i remember um yeah sorry the point i was making was i like you know you'd like to think oh it's transfer you know they'll sign when they sign but I still find myself going on Twitter a hundred times a day.
8:29I still got all the aggregators following all the aggregators. I want to, we all want a bomber, right? We want to transfer. We want new shiny new players. And then last night I was like, fuck this. I'm deleting Twitter. So I did. I deleted the app off my phone. I was like, fuck this. Is this, it was that to stop you absorbing the information or just go, keep going on there. I, it was, it was, it was a, it was a couple of things really. It was, I found myself just because I've been on, I've been off work for two weeks and I've just found myself, off just going on my phone and scrolling through bullshit basically nonsense videos on twitter and instagram and whatever and i was like what am i doing so i just deleted twitter i was like we're not gonna buy anybody so and then it was probably half an hour later the message pings up in the whatsapp group oh we're going for savinho i was like oh mate i'm back i'm back again um but yeah it's always nice to see a new shiny player coming and i saw somebody point out earlier on the an upgrade on an aging son and Brendan Johnson with Kudus and Savino is pretty big isn't it it's definitely a massive improvement Mark is it an improvement yeah well I mean yeah on the whole on the combined yeah for sure I mean I think it's and it is it's what's good as well is if we sign a Kudus and a Savino we've got the right wing sort of locked down right and both can sort of alternate on the left as we just argued at length.
9:53We have quite a lot of talent and potential on the left as well in Telenodderbeer, who we still haven't seen the best of at all. So there's quite a lot coming through there as well. And then we've got Kulisovic coming back from injury. So, yeah, I mean, I'm really excited about Kudus more than anything else. I think potentially, even if we sign Savinho, I think he's going to be absolutely huge for us. I've been interested to see where he plays him because we were talking about in the in the whatsapp about this earlier we have got a bit of a problem at 10 obviously and kudos can play there although he's not as preferred it's a different profile of 10 than what i think we all think we need right it's not the playmaking 10 it's more of an aggressive kind of battering ram carrying um number 10 than than what we're used to seeing oh that could be fun as well that could be a bit more direct um so so yeah i mean it just it does mean we'll have to bypass and find a way around not being very creative um in the center but but that could be that could be fun as well i mean imagine a a 4-2-3-1 and your three is is a you know odder bear gooders and savinho and then solanke up i mean solanke's head will be spinning let alone the center backs like that could be quite fun yeah i liked that's triply boy central yeah i mean we're gonna be we're gonna be attractive for sure and you know one of the major criticisms of Tottenham last year certainly in the latter part of the season was just our attacks would break down and players wouldn't know what they were doing they were making the wrong runs there didn't seem to be any cohesion at all and then you know and it was almost like no one could take responsibility and there is going to be in this season a complete plan for every single move I think the players would go loopy with the amount of things that have been asked to remember and do.
11:43But with this individual quality where they can kind of create a bit of mayhem and chaos with their dribbling and take-ons and creating issues in the defence and where their defenders are not quite known whether to stick tight or to stand off, it could create absolute murders for defences in the Premier League. Especially because what's the major issue that we suffered from last year. We had an issue when we hit teams on the break and those good opportunities breaking down. But moreover, for many years, we've had an issue with dealing with a low block at home, passing it around, not being able to create and carve an opportunity, losing possession and getting hit on the counter.
12:24The greatest antidote to a low block is players that can go one-on-one with a defender and tear them up. And if it does happen, And we've absolutely got two players that can do it. In fact, more than that, Tell can do it, but an Odebeer definitely can do it. I think all of us are quite... I mean, actually, I don't know how you feel, Cal, but I'm quietly excited about Odebeer. I think we're going to see a bit of a player this year if he stays fit. Yeah, Odebeer, not to compare them because they're two different footballers, but him and Tell, you can see Odebeer is a little bit more further along, but that's okay.
12:56He's been in the Premier League, you know, that extra year with Burnley, so he's going to be a little bit more ready for the league than Tell is. But yeah, Odebele looks exciting. He's brave, wants to take people on. But yeah, we're getting a lot of players like that now, a lot of runners, a lot of people that can beat a man and we've all been kind of crying out for that. But now it's like Mark was saying, it's okay, who's going to find them? Who's going to find these people? Who's going to be the passers that find these guys? And hopefully if we get Savino over the line, that person is next. Yeah, indeed.
13:31Indeed. This is what Fabrizio Romano said. More on Savino and Tottenham exclusive story. First proposal was already been sent by Spurs worth 50 million. Man City want more. Negotiations ongoing with City open to selling as Savio is keen on the move. What's wrong with him? Do you want it or not? What do you mean he's keen on the move? You're at Man... Why? Why? What does he want? What are you doing? I don't trust him. What do you mean you're keen on the move? You want to come into this fucking hellhole? You're inviting yourself into this hellhole, aren't you? We ain't got a choice. We've got to stay here, mate.
14:06And you're doing this, are you? I don't know. It's like this mackety going to fucking Forest. What are you doing? You'll never get out of there. You'll never get out. You're done. You're done. It's over. Did you see what happened to Morgan Gibbs White literally three weeks ago? Like, that'll be you, son. You'll be stood there with a knife, like, at your throat. If you play well, you're stuck. And if you don't play well, you'll end up at fucking Derby. Yeah, but it's nice that players still want to come to Tottenham. Does any part of you feel like this deal will actually get done? Maybe. Fuck me.
14:44We got here we go from Gibbs White, didn't we? You can get as close as you can possibly get. That is, medical was booked by all accounts, and that didn't happen, but I think that was just a complete freak. Yeah, I think with City, if a player wants to go, they just sell them don't they they don't care like they're not bothered like it's like yeah fine they I think Pep is almost like Ferguson in that regard where he you know kind of he believes in himself enough and he's all about he's all about kind of rotation of squad and having freshness in the squad all the time and so if some if Savino doesn't want to be there let's go all right bye or McAtee you don't want to be there bye like he'll just he knows there's always another player and they're already apparently looking at Rodrigo.
15:27So yeah, I think it would definitely get done. Yeah, I agree. Grealish, so here we go for Grealish to Everton, which is a little bit of a surprise. I spoke to Baz from Toffee Fan TV about a week ago and he was, he'd heard, people hear things about their own clubs, that Grealish was going to Everton, which I was quite surprised about at the time. But there we go, here it is. do you think we've missed a trick by not signing him grealish mark um my opinions hasn't really haven't really changed since since we last spoke about in the pod i think i think it's it's there's a lot of ifs around grealish right now um there's a lot like there's a lot of unknowns like there's a lot of caveat and context to him right now like can he you know can he still do it all that sort of stuff and and did pep like just completely all those his his his mentality and his um you know his confidence and so on like is is this the the villa grealish that is coming which is obviously what everyone's hoping um i'm not particularly sad i think i think grealish on top of an otherwise you know if we'd had an otherwise successful window so far and we were starting to talk about Grealish as like an added rotation option, I think I'd be absolutely fine.
16:48I'm hearing that apparently it's going to cost them 50 mil if they want to buy him outright. And like, would I want to pay 50 mil for Grealish right now not knowing what he's going to be? Probably not. It's an option. It's not an obligation. Yeah, but still, like, if they want... No, no, of course. But it's still an option. It's still a price point. Plus there's the salary, right? Like you're hearing anything from 250 at the more lower end to, you know, I looked it up when we did our pod and it said 300k. Like, what are they doing with that? I'm not necessarily sure Everton are covering all that.
17:21The report said 200, they're covering 200 grand. Which, I mean, for a starting player, if Greenwich was going to start 200 grand for a season, he's fine. My issue is less the money side of that, is what's gone wrong? Because he was part of the Trevor winning inside he was in deep in everything he was one of their better players that year he was in the England squad something has happened in the last two years it's not just the arrival of Jeremy Doku it's something else for Pep to have just or maybe it is that he's just found Doku and and he's just not interested in in playing Grealish or he wants a different style but he's just it feels like he's been frozen out without actually doing anything wrong so something it might have been some sort of significant drop-off or some sort of injury.
18:12Whatever it is, Pep just suddenly stopped fancying him almost completely.
18:20And now he's going to Everton? Like, he could have... Surely there must have been a clutch of clubs if he was completely fit or completely on it that would be in for him. Surely we would have been in for him if there wasn't something wrong. I mean, we won't know until he starts playing for Everton And if he's tearing it up, we know that it's complete nonsense. And there was a great example of Rashford. Everyone thought he was kind of broken and done. And then he goes to Aston Villa and eventually seals his move to Barcelona, which is guaranteed. So I don't know. So Mark would be concerned about the money.
18:57What about you? Yeah, I think it was one of those, like he was great in that treble season, wasn't he? He was like really good. and the Euros before that, he was really good. But then last season, he fell off a cliff so badly. He's 30 in a month for a winger, which is, you know, he's not old, but, you know, he's 30 in a month. And, yeah, when I saw that, I was just like, nah, 300 grand a week for him. No, thank you. For a guy that looks, I mean, there's perhaps an element here of, he would obviously know this better than anyone, but he's done the treble. He's won the treble. how do you get up how do you get up in the morning and go again you know and it's that thing Marvin Hagler said you know you've got who wants to wake up at 5am when you're sleeping on silk sheets and there's probably an element of that with him he's come from a working class background he's won the treble what else is there to do in English football now and he's probably struggled for motivation maybe as well as injury and everything else and now Everton he's going to go there he's going to get treated like a superstar and it's an opportunity for him to go and we'll see But I wouldn't have signed him personally.
20:04It just doesn't seem like the logical step for him, which is why it's a bit concerning. That's not to take anything away from Everton. It's just two years ago, he's won the Treville with the best team in Europe and now he's going to Everton alone. So something's gone on, I think.
20:20What do you make of these comments that have come out from Thomas Frank when talking about Jai Langer? He says, obviously, we are signing players here where the process is different in Brentford. I'm not saying they were better I think they were very good I think that Johan and his team are doing a top job top but just for them to understand what I'm looking for so that needs to be aligned at Brentford it was aligned I want that okay fine we look at it and boom and now I need to use more time with Johan and Rob and these guys but then we make presentations no no no I need that instead So all that is just extra hours every day.
21:01Are these teething problems or is there... What do you think? Yeah, honestly, for starters, it's an excerpt, right? Like it's a part of a long form article by The Athletic that's been not taken massively out of context, but that's the first thing I'd say. The second thing is I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that you're not 100 % aligned with your talent team after having been at a club for a few weeks like that's probably quite normal right like and at Brentford he was there for what eight eight years and like like of course they're going to be in tune and it's a much smaller team there as well there's not as many people to discuss with as there are at Spurs there's not as you know and I guess the other thing as well is it is you are fishing in a different pond at Spurs than what you are at Brentford if you go out and you identify someone at Brentford there isn't going to be a Chelsea or a Man U in the same bidding for that player so it's probably quite a lot easier to get that name over the line but I don't even think that's necessarily what Frank actually means in terms of boom I've seen a lot of people go oh they just they identify someone and then boom they buy him I don't think he means buying by boom I think they mean right they agree on a player and then they go fucking English
22:20there we go here we go we're all getting fucking confused it's like contact why don't you speak normal speak fucking normal so we're going to understand probably yeah just them two are sitting there speaking Danish and they have to translate to everyone else that's what's taking so long if they just spoke English it would be a lot easier yeah you're right I think the ideal thing is just don't say stuff like this but it's just being honest I guess and not don't say it because it's not worth hearing it just sends people crazy like we're not Football fans are just a special breed. We're not normal.
22:58Nothing makes men behave weirder than football. In no other world, no other subcultures are they involved in that dominates their every being like football does. And a bit of news can break you. I think that Madison News, everyone took a proper... It was like a flash knockdown. It came out of nowhere. and you're like, whoa, we're fucked. And then no news and no transfers coming in and then there was reports saying that Spurs didn't have a plan and they're scrambling. It isn't...
23:36We almost need to be treated with kid gloves. It's like a really sensitive child who, if you put the wrong cartoon on, he's going to smash the gaff up. That's what fans are like, essentially. we don't hear exactly what we want to hear we're going to take it and we're going to run with it and we're going to write my podcasts about it we're going to make youtube videos about it we're going to moan down the pub we're going to moan in whatsapp groups everyone's going to hear how angry i am because it appears that we're not doing our job and then so while thomas frankly probably the most sensible person one of the most sensible people in football just in terms of how he approaches problems and deals with things has just said something very honest we're not quite aligned yeah yeah um so it'd be interesting to see what happens really because i feel like the club is built around this structure and the director of football is very much the top of that well the ceo vino is the top of it but then you've got langer and he's the power broker essentially and so it's about frank aligning with him not the other way around he's gonna have to get used to i think it's a funny period for us isn't it obviously we've won the Europa League and that was obviously wonderful and all of that but I think a lot of fans saw it as I think every year it's like that that saying about repeating the same action and expecting a different result or whatever it is and it's like it feels like that with Tottenham and Daniel Levy and transfers that we as supporters sit here every summer and go this is going to be the summer that we have a go and it's like well the stadium's done now we've just had you know kendrick and 50 cent and beyonce and chris brown and formula one and nfl and all this stuff happening at the tottenham stadium um we've won the europa league which got us like what 50 million we're in the champions league again now which is more money than it used to be because that new league format and it's like all right we can actually go and have a go now finally after 25 years and we don't go and have a go I can see why it pisses a lot of people off because it's like everybody else is doing it like every other club is doing it and yes there's all sorts of you know um creative kind of accounting going on selling women's teams to yourselves and all that sort of stuff but fuck man you can't leave you can't say things like winning the premier league winning the champions league and then sell a highest earner and the other one's injured like you've got to start competing with the rest of the league and it's just not happening i can see why people jump up and down about small things like this because langer is kind of a par i wouldn't say he's done amazing but i wouldn't you know you've got kudus looks like a good sign in um danso but then you've got then you've got Gray Birdie Gray They pulled our pants down Oh Oh cow I'll give him a They did He's You're You're on it You're off it You're off it You're complete There is You can't just Walk around with There's widespread agreement In the football world Yeah Archie Gray is a huge English talent Just Just Just needing to be developed We haven't There is no There is no football person it what fucking hell we're just saying shit now to get a reaction out of us what what you said what did you say about Morrissey I said they were saying that about Ravel Morrison years ago I thought it was Morrissey as well Morrissey shit yeah yeah no I know nothing about bands no sorry go on I um what do you mean bands what do you mean bands I'm Morrissey I know nothing about bands Anyway, look, you've basically, you've called it, you've said that Archie Gray's not good enough for Spurs, Cal.
27:35I think£40 million for a player that's not ready for Premier League football is they've pulled our pants down. Now, if in two, three years' time he ends up being an excellent Premier League player, then great, I'm wrong, wonderful, don't mind being wrong. But right now, we've spent£40 million on a prospect who's not ready. Yeah, who's not ready and as it stands, looks nowhere near ready. But you don't count. I get where you're coming from. I get where you're coming from in terms of what you've seen thus far, but what you've seen isn't him, is it? It's him playing in a fucking maniac team in centre-back and right-back.
28:15And that's all you've seen in a couple of games at the end of the season where he played in midfield. And he's 18. And he's 18. Do you know what, though? I think that's okay. Fucking leave him alone. I think it's okay to be 18 and to be not ready and that's fine at 15 million that's fine at maybe even 20 or 40 I don't know I just kind of feel like I don't know I kind of feel like they're pulling our pants down a bit I'll pull your pants down a minute anytime you like you're a big old dong I reckon Cal I do alright how do you think our front line compares with the following guys Salah, Eketike and Gakpo Mamouche, Harland and Cherki Martinelli, Gokarez and Saka Kunio, Sesko and Buemo Parma, Pedro and Neto Bottom?
29:12Yeah, probably Man United, maybe near that Yeah, it goes to show if they can make that click then it could be fun but yeah not far away from United but it's below all the others which is a problem isn't it this is why everyone's getting annoyed you see like Daniel Levy going oh I want to win the league and like look at all of our competitors look what they're doing I don't know yeah yeah but like we've also got again not to they're all there those forward lines of those teams that you've just mentioned they're their most they're their strongest line-up and they're all fit we've lost last season we lost Kane.
29:52This season we've lost Son. We've lost Kulusevsky to a long-term injury most of this season. I think the context is probably important. Kulusevsky or Madison? No, Kulusevsky, sorry. This year, yeah. So what is the latest news? Someone said a month and someone else has said Christmas. I don't think it'll be Christmas. I heard about six weeks, eight weeks. Lots of information. It's still a lot. It's still a lot of games. Let's do some questions. Jack Enichow says, if we sign Savinho and one more player, is there any complaints we can have about this window? Three players who immediately improve are starting 11.
30:33Excuse me. Is that what you consider great business?
30:41Anyone answer? Before the season even kicks off, soccer fans are already making predictions. Who wins the league? Who qualifies for Europe? And who's lifting the trophy at season's end? The thing about Facebook, you might find more than what you're looking for. From a browse to a bike ride, this summer, find more on Facebook.
32:42Come on. Is it good business? If we sign Savino, plus one more. with what we've done already is that are we in a much better position than we are last year? I think so. Yeah. You need, you know, every sort of top six, top eight side, you need minimum two sort of 60 million pound signings in a summer transfer window, right? Like that's usually what happens. And if you need to strengthen a bit more, you go into three and four and if you're Chelsea, more than that. We've done one so far in Kudas. We've, you know, paid the money on Tel, so that's about, what's that, 25, 30 million pounds as well so he's kind of reaching into that but yeah if we signed if we got Savinia in for Savinio for what 60 what do we think it's gonna be 60 million yeah if we add another one to that we would have had a really good window we've strengthened in areas that we need to strengthen that third player does need to be a 10 in my opinion yeah I don't think there can be many complaints about that plus again I've said this so many times like Pelinia I think is underrated it for us i think he brings so much and that five million pound loan fee with well another 25 mil to pay or whatever next at the end of the season if we want to if we want to um take that option like that's a steal that's one of the best dms in the game and he's only just turned everyone's all right he's 30 he's just turned 30 this month i think or in july like i think he'll be i think he'll be huge for us i think be a revelation it free it not just that it covers that dm that we've been crying out for for over a season it frees up the players that we've been putting into that position well your Benton course your Sars and so on Bergvall like yeah anyway yeah no I think that's fair I think Pauline I agree with you I think Pauline is a really good signing and this summer I would really just wanted a midfield sorted out because last season our midfield was a bit of a mess wasn't it but that was as much system as it was players but also it just felt like a lot of our midfielders were and are the same I still think that's true but Pauline is different and I think we can just get a creative passer in there I think you know what is it they say blue sky thinking and all that I'd have loved a new goalkeeper a new left back two or three other positions but that's not the world right and you don't want to sign eight nine players it's not good for the squad but yeah I think a creative passer either at a ten or somewhere in midfield then yeah I'd be happy with that Good I agree with you guys excellent let's do some more questions fucking lost them there we go Chris says do we know if Tottenham have insurance to cover wages during long term injuries Dragerson and Madders will be costing Tottenham millions to sit at home watching games under the header so I didn't know the answer to this so I did some research and this is what I found Premier League clubs typically do take insurance policies to protect themselves financially if a player it suffers a serious injury but it's not as simple as comprehensive as people might think they do a loss of earnings and wage protection which is like if a player's out for more than six months they'll get a payout that kicks in that will cover a part of their salary um so obviously if you've got high earners they this dislike like jason madison for example premiums apparently are enormous uh especially with players with an injury history as we know Madison does have.
36:02Career-ended injuries. Clubs often take out premiums against sorry, take out insurance against players not being able to play again. Transfer free protection. So there's an option to ensure the book value of a player. Essentially the remaining value on the club's accounts for their transfer fees. It's like gap insurance when you buy a car. If they get injured, they get paid out. Or essentially whatever you owe is paid out by the insurance company. And there's other bits and pieces as well, but that's it essentially. So I would I would assume for someone like James Madison, there'll be some sort of insurance payout.
36:36But I wouldn't know how much Spurs are investing in that and how much risk they take. But that's all I know. I imagine with Tottenham as well, a lot of the players are on this, not just they make this much money. It's incentivised, it's appearances, it's goals, it's whatever else. So I imagine, you know, I know it's reported that Madison's on 200 grand a week, but that might be what it is. but I wouldn't be surprised if he's on 100 and then appearances. So, yeah. Yeah, I think it's 170 plus a ton of bonuses on top. That was always one of the things about Kane, right? Like we were always hearing, how has he unsold a little money?
Read the full transcript
37:12But he had a ton of extra bonuses that stacked up and eventually made him really well paid. Also, if you get injured and you've got a bonus heavy, you can't earn that money, can you? So you're going back to basic. Correct. Week says our academy has shown that they produce top young talent why don't we ever play any of them in the first team I saw that we had the lowest number of minutes played by the academy in the top flight last year was it top flight or top six teams or was it top flight did see something I don't know I see it what players from our academy do you think could legitimately offer anything in the Premier League that you've seen especially given the fact we've spent so much money on young players as well.
37:57Yeah, I think that's kind of a loaded statement in a way because it's, we produce the best young, okay, it's not like we're selling them. They're going on and having great careers and they're surpassing us and we're looking like wankers. Do you know what I mean? It's like we're selling, you know, we produce these players and then they go to Wickham or whatever and then we never hear from them again. So are we really producing top players or are we just maybe that producing bit is perhaps what we're not doing yet? yeah did you see Jamie Donnelly had a great debut for Stoke they won 3-1 against I can't remember who they played but he scored the third goal and apparently they're very impressed of him playing in the 10 and he said doesn't he about how he wants to play for Tottenham one day where we're going now I want to play for Tottenham Montsport it's what you want yeah man John Howick says with the lack of new signings and a Super Cup final on the horizon on Wednesday how do you guys feel about sorry how are you guys feeling just a few months after Bill Bauer in terms of optimism are you getting a feeling better or worse at the new season ahead of the Europa League trophy parade sorry I've heard that I'm like a fucking idiot in terms of optimism are you feeling better or worse about the new season since the Europa League trophy parade hashtag feel for Frank
39:22feel for Frank I feel about it I feel optimistic about the season. What is it? What's the brometer? It's so fucking low. We finished 17th in the league. Are we going to do better than that? Yes. How much more better? I think we're going to finish in the top six. And I think Arsenal are going to falter. I've got a feeling. It's a lot of pleasure. That team's peaked. I agree with you. If we finish above Arsenal this year, that would be success, wouldn't it? That would be a dream. unbelievable yeah I think no one rates us and half our fan best don't rate us and I think Frank's going to be better than we think and we've got some really good players and it's going to click that's my feeling we've got some really good players there's a really good like dynamics within the squad are still really good I think Sun was a big part of it I think he'd be sorely missed but you know someone else needs to step up but like I'm just I'm as excited To be honest, right after the Europa League final, though, I wasn't going, right, I'm really excited about next season now.
40:28I was just reveling in that. Like, I didn't think about, oh, this is going to be so good going into next season now. Like, that wasn't it. It was just euphoria of winning a major European trophy. I, yeah, the immediate was, I didn't even think long term because I knew there'd have to be a decision made about Ange. But yeah, I think you're right on all the stuff about Frank. I think you're right on all the stuff on the... This episode is brought to you by Facebook. So you were scrolling on Marketplace, and there it was, the bike you'd been searching for. You sent a message, and it turned out the seller was super chatty, kind of funny, and an avid cyclist.
41:06The next thing you know, you're in a cycling crew. Well, a community cycling group. The thing about Facebook, you might find more than what you're looking for. From a browse to a bike ride, this summer, find more on Facebook. This episode is brought to you by Google Chrome. You think you know a browser, but Gemini and Chrome? That's new. It can help you with practically anything on the web, like restoring a vintage motorcycle from a 50-page restoration block, or finally break down that long article you've had open for weeks. Gemini and Chrome is here for it. Ready to make anything online make sense?
41:41There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required, compatibility and availability varies 18+. Hey Chicago, class it up with Crocs You know back to school is coming in fast So why wait to find your new Fave footwear Step into a local Crocs store And step into your new look Try it, style it, make it yours Because the right pair doesn't just show up It shows off First day fits, handled Walk out ready for whatever's next visit your nearest croc store today i think we're going to see a couple of names perform for us this season that we didn't necessarily expect i think i've said a few times i think sar is going to be a big name for us um i think he he's he could prove a lot i think i've already said today pelinia i think it's going to be a big name um there's a few that need to step up tell has thinks he needs to start showing some things solanke you'll back me up on that yeah swearing the nucleus is there man the fact we've kept Romero if we can keep Van der Ven injury free man that's it we're forgetting how good we are with those two as centre back and what we've done while those two are in the team and maybe the hamstrings of Van der Ven will be protected by the kind of less expansive football that we're going to play I guess so I think Danso's an excellent sign in as well yeah 100 % there's more depth there's more breadth in that squad as well and he'll use it more it won't be this uncompromising approach you know and just famous for and get some results but sometimes can sort of take it to toll as well I remember you had Flav you had the Brentford guy on the lab and he was he was like it might take a while to bed in it might be a little bit of a slow start and I think it's going to be that I think it might be a bit of a slow start and we might suffer in the Champions League early on I'm not expecting really anything from the Champions League really I'm not sure we're ready for it it's a lovely bonus that's come winning the trophy but other than that I'm not expecting too much from it but I think yeah we may not do great in that but I think as the season goes I think we'll get better and better maybe even had one or two in January I think we could have a really good season and I think yeah maybe getting a top six blowjobs off your mum to get better and better.
44:14Retro Football Shirt says, why did Flav wear slippers on the overlap? Didn't wear slippers. I wore a classic wallaby. And you, my friend... Yeah, you, my friend, are a Luddite. Don't know your ass from your elbow.
44:30James York says, could we get relegated?
44:36It's possible, but no. Pedro Hotspur says dildos made of baby bell casings discuss what you mean mashing them together and using them as a dildo are they wax yeah like when they warm up they'll get all soft do you melt them down yeah they'll melt and like stick in there yeah yeah I think I think they do a job get enough of them Jamie Allen says with Palace losing their appeal does this make it easier to attract Eze we need a fucking 10 I can't imagine a world where yes we need a 10 does it make it easier to attract him I don't know because the what is it? 15th some people are saying that it's already expired the clause some people say it expired on the 15th if we're buying Savinia we're not then going to drop another 68 million on Eze I don't think I don't think but we do need a 10 I don't know who that's going to be fuck those man yeah fuck is it it's fair to say that the conference league is much worse in terms of money isn't it like it's really bad yeah you have to get to like the semi-final to break even like it's bad Kieran Maguire said that you some of the top teams will probably end up losing money by being in it just because of the expense of of taking a football club to yeah the cost of hotels and all that stuff is that you're actually probably, I can't remember what episode he said, he said you'd probably end up breaking even or losing money.
46:15You know, even like Spurs got 39 million euros for winning the Europa League all in. Yeah. The cost of being in that competition as well is, you know, what would you call it? Jinx or chicks or what? What am I trying to say? Chips away at it, chips away at it. Yeah, yeah. I got wound up by an American football pundit on TikTok Nice, easy to do Yeah, they said that the son signing in the MLS is one of the few times that a player at his peak has gone to the American League I had to comment He's not at his peak I had to say it, two years off his peak, pal, that's what I said
47:09how do you feel about the super leagues happening in two days time is it one of them ones where i had a mate of mine contact me and he goes i can't tell whether we're going to sneak this one nil or get bad five nil that's i think that's fair that's where we're all right we yeah does it matter yeah I think that's we're all going to say well this we have to say no right to sort of just protect ourselves and not bothered right now Mickey Mouse Cup but if we win it obviously we're the best team in the world because the Club World Cup is not the best team in the world it has to be the competition between the two you know European trophy winners obviously obviously if we lose then it doesn't matter it's just a friendly yeah it's one I think it's one of those that kind of as fans like I remember we won the Europa League it's like yes we won the Europa League and that was wonderful and after we got over to that so I remember on the night going Super Cup oh my god we're in the Super Cup and no it won't have the same feeling of you know winning that as winning the Europa League winning Europa League is obviously bigger but I think for you know we're doing a social it sold out really quickly didn't it I think supporters are up for it I don't think the club are hugely up for it.
48:23I don't think, I don't think it has a massive, I don't think it has massive importance just because it's so early in the season. But I'm looking forward to it because like you said, it's a no-lose situation. If we win, then we've won another trophy and if we don't, it's like, oh, whatever. Still got one. So it's fine. Did you see Mikey Moore sign the new contract? Yeah. On his 18th birthday. It's nice. Turns 18, signs a new contract, is now playing for Rangers. I think his family are all Millwall, so Millwall and Rangers kind of makes sense, doesn't it? Ah. So, I don't know what they're expecting.
48:59I had a couple of Rangers fans message me, my old boss, Stu, and he was like, what's he like? And I was like, honestly, loads of hype. He's had sort of one decent game for Spurs in the Europa League, got a bad injury, or whatever it was, the reason why he was out. Yeah. And that was it. That's what we've seen. So it's hard to know, but obviously he's still hyped up and fingers crossed a good season in an inferior league will do him some good. But not, I say inferior, do you remember when we sent Nathan Ottawa up there and he did a rainbow flick over one of his heads and they destroyed him? They just put him up in the air.
49:39It's like, you don't go, I was saying to my boss, I was like, what do they make of that? You don't do that in Scotland? Like, we don't like that stuff. Anyway. alright boys any more for any more anyone else want to chat about no good alright we're back off on Thursday or Friday after the Super League and ahead of the Premier League so until then everybody bye bye what's up it's the frame it's the frame Cock!
