In short

The Fighting Cock podcast discusses Tottenham Hotspur’s post-Daniel Levy era (“A World After Levy”), arguing Levy’s long tenure shaped the club’s identity, recruitment, and decision-making, and now ENIC/Enoch and new football leadership (including Ben Katesham and Peter Chariton) must prove they can “lead with football” and become title challengers. They debate whether Levy’s removal was inevitable, how much ENIC will invest (including claims about £100m being borrowing against future earnings), and what changes for January/summer recruitment and club philosophy. They also reflect on fan protests (“Dear Mr Levy”) and how optics may have helped.

Guests

Flav (Tee), Spooky (content creator/blogger focused on Tottenham and the “Dear Mr Levy” era), and “T” (another co-host). No external guest appears; it’s a co-host discussion.

Key claims

Levy was “bigger than the club,” too cautious/reactive, and prevented a transition to elite title-challenging football; his legacy is mixed (financial/platform gains but football stagnation). ENIC will manage PR before any sale; Tottenham may be sold within a couple of years.

Notable examples

Andy Reid signing; the “Dear Mr Levy” letter; the 2013/2014 “Do we want Levy in?” podcast; Pochettino era “luck”/timing; Romero contract/captaincy and Frank (Ange) arriving; targets like Eze/Gibbs-White/Javi Simons; Champions League squad missed; protests’ banners; speculation about a Harry Kane return and potential Qatari takeover.

1:19is issued by Goldman Sachs Bank USA, Salt Lake City branch. Terms and more at applecard.com. It's the fighting. It's the fighting. Cock. It's the fighting. It's the fighting. Cock. Come on, sir. No. Hello, welcome back to another episode of the Fighting Cock podcast, recording on Sunday today because on Monday, I'm not here basically, I didn't want to not do a podcast because shit loads is happening down on my road, isn't it? Loads. We've got Flonius Filth and Spooky. Spooky is still alive. I am. I'm not dead. Yeah, where is Spooky? When's Spooky going to come in? But fucking tweet him. Oh, he's not on Twitter anymore because he's a fanny.

2:13I don't know how to contact you. Spooky barely talks to us. That's not true. Anyway, here he is. So it's an interesting time. It's a fascinating time. It's probably the most interesting time we've had at Spurs. It's unfathomable to think of a future that doesn't involve Daniel Levy at Tottenham. And for you Spook, who actually your career in content creation for Tottenham was centered directly around Daniel Levy. You had your blog, the infamous blog, the greatest blog that ever existed around Tottenham Osborne. dear Mr. Levy and he's gone. It's weird because he's been a part of our lives. On a parasocial level, he's been a part of our lives forever.

2:58And we have so many opinions about this individual. Now he's been forced out. To the point where Spurs have lost their identity in some ways for people outside of the club and for people within the club because Levy made Tottenham an extension of his own ego, right? the way that they took over the club. Dear Mr. Levy, by the way, it started because people were losing their shit. This is how far we've come, by the way. And it's easy to criticise Levy. There's a lot to criticise him for. But at the time, we were linked with Andy Reid and people were losing their shit because we weren't signing Andy Reid quick enough.

3:40Do you know what I'm saying? People were losing their shit in message boards and glory, glory. and that's where the whole dear Mr. Levy letter thing started from. It was like, dear Mr. Levy, when are you signing Andy Reid? It just birthed from probably one of the worst signings we've ever had. Yeah, Andy Reid was, he had a couple of moments but was average and you definitely thought that Andy Reid, because he came with Michael Dawson, didn't he? Yeah. You thought of the two, Andy Reid is the sexy one even though he was short, fat and slow. You just thought he had something about him but it was obviously Dawson who had the greater legacy.

4:11He was left-footed, that's why. It was all about finding a left-footed player and anyone with a left foot was God. In the old 4-4-2, you needed a left-footed side player, yeah. But to kind of answer your question, Flav, like, yeah, you're right. There's people that are obviously quite young, in their 20s, that haven't known anything other than Daniel Levy. And it is a little bit surreal because everything that we do, it's just there's always him. He's always there. He's the ever-present constant. He's the scapegoat. He's the one that keeps making mistakes. He's the one that keeps holding us back.

4:44all the discussions and arguments that we have about Tottenham progressing, you know, it's because of him. And at the same time, it's because of him also that we're in this position where we could be elite. We could be a super club. We've got the foundations. We've got the money. We've got the platform. We've definitely got the loyal fan base. But the question was always, is he holding us back? And now we're about to find out in the greatest plot twist ever. it's like Enoch out, Levy out well Enoch have got Levy out and now it's Enoch in and Enoch are about to go on a PR mission to kind of prove that Levy was the problem and was stagnating us and probably pushing a bit more money to Tottenham and finding out once and for all if Levy's inability to take us from top four to title challengers was solely down to him being too cautious and just too deliberate in the way that he does business.

5:43Do you have any fears, Tee? There is a bit of fear. I think it's going to be a case of, I don't know, if we're not where Spooky said title challenges in the next two, three years, then they'll say, oh, we should never have let Levy go. But something had to change. Something had to give. It's been 24 years in his role as chairman, 25 years at the club. And I just think something had to give. Something had to change. it feels like we're behaving in the same way as we did in the old stadium now the pandemic happened so that kind of pushed things back a couple of years it feels like the pandemic never happened but it did and it set us back because we just got the stadium just getting the fans and then we got our season out of it so that pushed us back a wee bit as well but as again as Spooky said it felt like he was bigger than the club it felt like it was all about him and that might be intentional might not be intentional when the transfer deals fall down it's always all his fault might not have been but um i think something had to give and um i am i am excited for the future because um yeah i think we needed something new i think 25 years is far too long with not a great deal on the pitch to show for it yeah yeah um just just quickly just as you were talking there boys i was sort of i went on way feedback machine to find some old dear mr levy uh posts and i've managed to found find the kind of era where fighting cocks started to exist because way back then right when the fighting cocks started there was no what there weren't things like a cast there wasn't sport social there wasn't megaphone by spotify these are all tools that have been adapted to make publishing podcasts really really easy so that i mean hence why there are so many everybody's got a podcast back then it wasn't like that we would have to create a um create a file send it to spook he would then have to host it on his website then what happened how did it end up on get a bit been sent out spook oh fuck i don't i don't it was linked to apple podcasts i bet it was a nightmare yeah it was it was a logistical no it was yeah it wasn't it wasn't great was it i mean we did it and it works and it kind of created that initial buzz but things have to evolve in it and um of course but yeah those were early days man they were i'm just looking at episode 11 of the fighting apparently these can all be found on your old blog somewhere i don't know i don't know how some of them are probably it's probably they're probably not linked anymore but they're definitely still on the server somewhere yeah yeah um and episode 11 was entitled north Flander-Nizars and that was just after our 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur.

8:31You know something, Lev? Do you remember, you probably won't, this is back in the Crouch End shop days, we did a podcast with Jack McEnroy and Mark Butcher about the future of Levy. Because before coming on here, I thought, what was the first seeds of me wanting Levy gone? And I think that podcast was one, but I can't remember what triggered us making a whole podcast around do we want levy in or not but it's one that is all about 2013 2014 and we were questioning whether or not he he was the right man for us back then yeah it's mad really um i think either we had a very bad window which couldn't have been but i don't know what triggered it it might have been i can't have been strafford strafford is earlier than that but anyway the point is that's probably the first seeds of me me kind of wanting him gone and i was super defensive back then.

9:24I was, apart from Stratford, obviously Stratford is inexcusable. And as I've said many times, I didn't go to watch Tottenham play when we were mooted to move to Stratford. So that's how strong I felt about it. But I have through the years felt like broadly he's been a positive. And I do actually remain in that position. I think it was broad. You look at his impact at what he's done at Spurs and how he's elevated the football club to a point where we think we should be challenging for titles from the club that he took over which was just legitimately a club that was going absolutely nowhere the tail end of the 90s despite the league cup win was pretty horrendous and the club that he inherited and the squad that he inherited in 2001 through to it was only it took until about 2005 for things to start to shift you know that it's been huge and like and i've said i've said this a few places but there's this idea that like the because merely existing in the premier league means it is inevitable that all these clubs would grow in the way they have that is bullshit that is absolute bullshit daniel levy has had a direct impact into the size of the football club now right we are the ninth richest club in the world the ninth the ninth richest club in the world in europe in the world your de facto world right that is because of his work now the criticism and it's fair 100 % and I'm definitely have been on board with that for the last 18 months two years was that right now what you've built this now what be aggressive do something with it stop being reactive stop being passive and go and grab it and he can't he just cannot do it which is why he had to go but I've just felt irritated by the kind of seller there's a kind of this sort of undercurrent of smugness that I've noticed and you're like all right fine you can be happy I'm happy right I think there's a great opportunity for Tottenham to really kick on now but just to not acknowledge what he helped build and had a massive part in I think that I think it's disrespectful yeah but that's the binary tribalism that you get in football generally and you You definitely get it in amongst the last several years and beyond that in terms of people that have wanted, that have made their entire identity, the entire football identity has been get Levy out.

11:49Now, to be fair to people that turned up for the protests, they actually did the one thing that I often criticised them for, and that was retain that energy if you truly want change. And I know it's just a pocket of people in the grand scheme of things, but that wouldn't have been good PR for the football club and I'm sure they noted that but let's be honest Lewis family and all the politics and the dynamics around the ownership and the potential to sell the football club they don't care about us the great unwashed going to the football games we're always going there regardless of the noise that we make before games or during games they're playing a different game altogether they're playing a PR game now they're going to get us on side the scapegoat's gone so therefore we have to concentrate on the football.

12:36We can't really blame anyone else for the minute because we have to wait and see what they do so they've kind of created this bubble of patience that we just have to abide by. But to go back to what you're saying, Levy did a lot of good. The good isn't really up for debate. If you're going to sit there and pretend that he didn't then you're a bit weird. It's the fact that his own philosophy, his own business and football philosophy did not align and merge into one thing. So when we made those steps forward, granted football's different in the modern day, right? You have to be absolutely elite to pick up trophies.

13:14City pick up league cups because their squad is so bloated with talent. We never made that push, that transition to like, what do we do now? Let's prioritise the football and try and break the monopoly in terms of how to be competitive on the same level as they are. And I never got round, I can never wrap my head around, surely the football gives you the opportunity to earn more money. If you're Champions League every season, you're probably going to also be a title contender, possibly every season. wouldn't that not equate to more money and yet somehow me sat here recording on a podcast i'm trying to criticize someone who's created a billion pound entity like a three and a half billion pound entity and say why could you not figure out something so simple so i think it comes down to him being naive maybe believe it or not like someone at his level could not see he was doing wrong.

14:17I think in his heart, he thought he was doing everything right. I think he was... We needed that reboot, man. I think he was just unchallenged for 25 years. He was the guy. You know, Joe... Well, yeah. You couldn't... Yeah. You couldn't... Joe Lewis is... And this is something that's been kind of bugging me because you're here in TalkSport and they're going, well, now it's Joe Lewis, isn't it? It's Joe Lewis. Joe Lewis isn't Joe Lewis. It hasn't been Joe Lewis. There may have been times, like 10, 15 years ago, that he had some role in decision-making in the football club, but he doesn't even run Tavistock.

14:49He does nothing, right? The ownership and running of Tavistock now is essentially Vivian, Lewis and Charles, right? Now, so, but before that, when they would have been involved in doing everything they needed to do in Tavistock, Daniel Levy would have just been left to get on with Spurs and why would they question anything that he'd done previously? they're not going to question his managerial appointments because he probably knows more about football than they could ever know right so and it happens managers make the chairman make terrible appointments of managers all the time look at Manchester United consistently so he would have I think the problem was that he just went he just wasn't questioned do you know what sorry just quickly when that went and when when when contestation came in and it seems to be in this kind of so sorry let me go all over the place there was a midway through Conte's tenureship there was a independent review of the operations of Tottenham brought on by Daniel Levy and Enoch where they would needed to look from a top down what was going wrong why aren't they being successful how can they be more efficient how can we spend our money more wisely stop making as many mistakes basically and the implementation of the review started to take place in the last six months and that involved donna cullen sitting sitting down that involved uh ben katesham coming in and i think what probably happened and that probably review and now i'm guessing the rest is true but now i'm guessing is they probably looks at daniel levy and this is just there's no challenging of these of these ideas so effectively whatever he says even if he listens well and he's and it's been reported by other chairmen and and there was a there was a guy uh i can't remember his name now he's on Southampton chair or CEO when he was selling Hoi Bia to Tottenham and he was talking about how difficult Daniel Levy is to deal with and all the sort of stereotypes that have been attached to him and he um he said he's an incredible listener and I'm sure he is but fundamentally he has to make the mistake the he has to make the decisions Venkateshman's come in and probably knows the business in terms of the footballing side of things as well as he does and he's only need two cooks in the kitchen so they've pushed him it's mad that it was always there though like like no one ever entertained the lewis family removing levy no you know what i'm saying it but that that potential was always there no one clocked on to that even when we it was rumored at the beginning of the summer and and like everyone thought he's going he's going and there was people celebrating like you said and then nothing happened i mean at that point it was he knew there and then that Levy himself knew he was going.

17:32But the pressure could have gone on to Enoch a lot earlier if as a fan base, those that wanted to protest, separated, tried to understand the politics. But to be fair, we don't really understand the politics. Why did Lewis' family and Levy degrade in terms of their relationship? Is it because Lewis' family had the directive to bring in cash injection, to prep the club for a sale and Levy has just been very awkward in making those decisions and we've just kind of not really done anything. For years, we've been talking to massive brand names, right, about the stadium naming rights. We've heard rumours time and time again.

18:15There's been conversations in the last two years with consortiums and Qatar and whatever else. Nothing's come of it again. and I guess they might have just seen that as the last failure. To move forward, we need that next step because unfortunately that's the way modern football is now. You can't compete on the way that we manage wages and squad structure and the rest of it. I think he's just gambling that the laws are eventually going to work in his favour. It's a long play, isn't it? Yeah, I think it's fairly evident that's not going to happen. And as I said, it's a long play. And I think his legacy is probably a net positive.

19:02Obviously, the voices that wanted him gone, mine included among them, are probably louder. But I think overall, people appreciate what he's done. If you look at the media and the news since he's been gone, it's mainly been praising what he did, how he grew the club over the last 25 years. but that doesn't mean that we weren't going to really progress any further forward because on the football pitch it's like really near but yet so far we lucked out with a Pochettino appointment and almost to an extent we lucked out with a good transfer window with Simmons or Simon whatever the fuck his name he's landed on our lap you know It was reactive wasn't it that's the thing we were reacting to our situation rather than being proactive in it yeah this is the problem right we've never had that blueprint Levy has never delivered on a genuine like a believable blueprint in how to move forward but the thing with the transfer just to be quick it's evident we needed more English players because you targeted Gibbs White and Eze neither came so Tell sadly missed the Champions League squad so maybe there was some planning there but surely you were aware of the squad building from January you know Yeah, I mean, I think if you would give, look, we know statistically, but if you had to choose between Javi Simmons, Eze or Gibbs White, Javi Simmons, you would buy Javi Simmons.

20:31So weirdly, I appreciate there's a squad issue and that should be something to be taken into. But we've somehow... I mean, I'm not suggesting that Kyle Walker-Peters changes the future of our club. but if you knew that there was an element that there's a chance that we needed another English person in the squad you can fill the squad up and you know not have to cut players and to be fair I don't think time is until the next stages is you know devastating to our club or anything it's just a small irritation but it just shows an element of a lack of planning and just being reactive and I just hope that moving forward I think Thomas Frank and Lang will have probably a relationship where there's less interference from Levy now Levy's gone so hopefully that's that'll also be a positive yeah that's what makes it exciting right as well like because it is now brand new it's a world without Daniel Levy it changes the January window and the summer window next year like because now we're sat back thinking okay go on then show us what you got how are things going to be different are we going to get business done quickly are we going to sign everyone that we need in one window and then build on that.

21:41Like how aggressive are we going to be in terms of, you know, there's a play that we want and are we going to bid more money than he's worth to just get it done quickly and not fuck about like we have fucked about in the past? Like, because the finances are the same, right? The finances and the economics of the football club haven't changed unless we get more money pushed into the football club. So we've got a question here just quickly. I'm a carrier who says, if Enoch doesn't invest any money, what actually changes? There you go. Right, so there was this report of£100 million being invested.

22:13Now, there's a document flying around that suggests that it's not an actual investment. It's a borrowing on future earnings. That's normal, right? Is that a normal practice in football? Yeah, it happens a lot. It happens a lot. Barcelona do it, for example, consistently, but that isn't a cash injection from Enoch. it's also you i guess you can do it in terms of if you look at the potential incomings to the football club so a new shirt sponsor is due to come in in 2027 so that deal would probably be negotiating at the moment aia might refresh and it might be worth 400 million pound over eight years i don't know what it is but and then stadium sponsorship is going to be worth a fortune either in convincing a new owner to come in and say look here we go you've got your own branded stadium as soon as you come in and they pump the money in that way or we sell the naming rights and we have another cash injection bringing in close to if you combine both things i don't know 700 800 million pounds then you can invest or you can lend from a bank uh you know on on on the basis that this money's coming in but it isn't investment it's not cash injection that's not what it is i don't Did anyone say it was?

23:35I think the narrative around the£100 million was that we're bit this in investment. That was the wording around. Or was the document linked to that injection? I don't know if it was the same thing. That's what I was a bit unsure of. I don't know, it was£100 million, isn't it? It's£100 million. Everyone's talking about the£100 million and then suddenly there's a document saying... Because there wasn't an amount of money in that document. Go and get the protest. Go and get the protest. I'm not that well versed in these things. No, it may be two different separate things. I don't know. But that particular piece of investment or lack thereof is not cash injection.

24:10It's just borrowing against future earnings. But if you want, essentially, you look at other clubs like Chelsea, that is constant cash injection from Bluco. And Manchester City, they've got to a point now where they generate so much money that it's a moot point. But that's the difference, really. So I don't think, to answer a mixed question about them investing money, it's not that we don't have enough money to spend. And PSR will restrict what we can do regardless of who comes in. It's the decision-making and the behaviour and attitude in the people that are running the football club that needs to change and will change now that Daniel Levy's gone.

24:51and my issue was always the passive somewhat um accepting of our position yeah and uh accepting a position in the in the echelons of the league right that we never really wanted to just kick on and that if you have that energy it filters down into everything you do like if everyone's passive it's okay regulation is coming in you know we can't over outspend our means you you know you're relying on something like lightning in a bottle to happen in order for us to even begin to dream similar to that pochettino era where we just had this clutch of brilliant players a brilliant manager and it just all clicked at the right time and you know a large part of that was down to leave his recruitment brought in really good players um you said it yourself as well like Romero signing a new contract, right?

25:45What was Romero told in those contract negotiations? Well, this is June, isn't it? This is back in June. And it's such a strange thing because at the time, there's a lot happened in June. Romero decided to stay, as he said. He was made captain. Frank was brought in, I think, was it June? Yeah, Frank was brought in June, yeah. June, yeah, yeah. And it was now been reported. I've been told by this. I've got one source who just comes up trumps every single time. I don't get huge amounts of information from it, but mentioned that the decision was made in June. It's been reported elsewhere as well.

26:20That in June, that Daniel Levy was going to go. So something has happened there. I don't know. I think we're primed for a sale. I do. I don't know when it's going to happen. I just think Spurs will be sold in the next couple of years. I'm convinced of that. Availability, amount of discounts and savings, and eligibility vary by state. and yeah then then then it's like a different i mean it's never boring following this football club but you know we we it's also us we make the drama more dramatic like just with the way we are because we want our club to be so much more than what it is right it's for the love of the club i know we all disagree i know i've had run-ins with the people that go to protests and and you know fundamentally i don't disagree with anything they have to say i just disagree with the delivery of what they believed in and now that we've all got what we've wanted in in different ways we've kind of lost that scapegoat and that excuse to shit on spurs but now we've got enic who were there all the time but they're going to have their own priorities and and those priorities won't really we're a byproduct of whatever they do right if they can win some cups and get us challenging and change the that kind of culture within the football club that's great for them because they can sell an even better product a better brand to whatever consortium comes in to buy us now what that consortium planned to do with us that's the scary thing but that's like so way off and beyond our control i mean everything is beyond our control anyway.

29:46That's something that we'll have to worry about at the time. For the minute, it really is a case of what are you going to do in the short term? Because I think long term, I don't think matters. We can talk about it, but it's not going to impact this season, next season, and the season after next. I don't think anything's going to happen for a while. I think Enoch will probably want to fix the PR around them before they sell on. so at least they can say, well, okay, here's a legacy. We've given you a legacy that equates to winning the league or winning the FA Cup or being competitive season in, season out and being title challengers for more than what Poch gave us, for example, which was a couple of seasons where we threatened.

30:31I guess my point is it's all messy, man, emotionally and just in terms of the politics. It's fun to try and work it out, but I think it has no consequence. The political side and the potential sell has no real impact in the moment. If we're rich enough to compete, now's the time to prove that the philosophy was wrong and to be ruthless and aggressive in how we go about it. Lead with the football and make everything else feel like it's there to support the football. Whereas Levy had this thing where he made everything more important than the football. And I know he was really proud of redeveloping Tottenham and all the stuff that he was doing with the academy and whatever else, like the school academy.

31:12That's great, and I get why he felt proud about that. But from a selfish point of view, I just want fucking Tottenham to win things and to play well and to be competitive. Yeah, seriously, to be considered, we feel like we could do something. Yeah, that's enough. That's all you can reasonably hope for, really. There's always talk about, oh, Tessa's got to be sacked if he doesn't win the league with Arsenal. this season if he's in the conversation or if any club is in the conversation come april may then you've done your job because you no one is entitled to win anything you've just got to be in the conversation and that's all we can be and it never felt like we really genuinely was i've got a question here from howard says i think this is it lads this is the start of something special for tottenham what do you think also how much does vena look like mr bean does a bit yeah um t t uh So we've got this chap, Peter Chariton.

32:08Yes. He's the non-executive chairman, essentially. But he's essentially not involved in the running of Tottenham, but just advises on various bits and pieces to do with the business and all the stuff that we don't really want to think about. But it does feel like Benkatesham is now in control of the football club. Do you have any feelings about that? I don't know a great deal about either of their history I know that Venkateson did do some good things at Arsenal I should have actually read the bullet points before I came on here but it is a new dawn, it is a new era it could all go very much tits up obviously but I think it's exciting and I think that there's a lot of potential I mean one of the things that I think I mean Spooky made the great point that we have to lead with football if you're defending leaving it's like well he made us the ninth which is club blah blah blah those are all good things but ultimately it has to the growth of the club has to reflect on the pitch it just has to and I hope that with these new people at the helm that that starts to happen so Ange in his first season finishes fifth with no European football and we buy the player of the season in the championship a player who got relegated and Dom Solanke only got more than 20 goals one season in his whole career, and I think Yang.

33:32We need to be building summer after summer after summer, even if, I don't know, even if Frank fucks around and finishes second in the league this season. He can't be like, well, we'll rest on our laurels and not push on. We need this new leadership to continue to push the club forward and spread a message that says that. I mean, I was on a pod of flab, I think it might have been last season, and I think we both kind of agreed that we need the noises out of the leadership to say, you know what, we want to win stuff. And when Levy said it in that interview with Vecchio Tesshima, it was a bit weird.

34:05It's like actually hearing him say that my aim is for us to win the league and win stuff. He didn't, it's not something he ever came out and said in his whole tenure. And these are the noises I want to hear from the people at the helm. And I want the business to reflect that. Looking back at that interview they did with each other, do you think Levy knew at that point? Because there were rumors that he knew that he was going. but that yeah i suspect he did because he did kind of do a bit of a pr um junket really because he went with neville as well i didn't watch what he did with neville to be fair but um yeah i think he knew i think he knew this episode is brought to you by facebook so you were scrolling on marketplace and there it was the bike you'd been searching for you sent a message and it turned out the seller was super chatty kind of funny and an avid cyclist The next thing you know, you're in a cycling crew.

34:59Well, a community cycling group. The thing about Facebook, you might find more than what you're looking for. From a browse to a bike ride, this summer, find more on Facebook. 35:58John Howick says did Levy's poor transfer the dealings finally catch up with him if the club were planning on this change due to coming 17th it would have made more sense to happen during the summer not giving Levy a full transfer window and then dismissing him early days after it closed I think like a shift in that takes time I don't think he even would have thought about this summer transfer window do you know what i mean they would this is a this is you're turning around a battle cruiser right you can't you wouldn't make decisions as binary as that as specifically when so we can get a good transfer window it would be how this is like a five month transition and whatever whatever happens in this period is immaterial because the longevity of the project would be secured they believe by making this action.

36:51I don't think it's simply as a case of him walking in and going, right, Daniel, you're done. Grab your shit. I don't think that was the case, John. So I don't think the summer transfer window really came into consideration specifically about Daniel Levy's position. Any thoughts, Poison? I agree, mate. I think there's a lot of talk that Levy found out in the morning that he had to clear his desk and leave. I wanted that to be true I really really did but property is not people got what they want and they just want to make it even like I appreciate the hate I get it there's a lot of people popping champagne I do find it a little bit weird but like I said if your entire identity has been about getting him out you probably actually believe it was because of you that you got the that he's gone so just i mean i wanted to speak about that i think that the i generally believe that the change for tottenham had an impact on this i don't think that they're directly responsible for his his removal i think it's much much more likely and again all this is speculation conjecture we don't know i don't know right just people have told me and you can believe it or not believe it but it's interesting that that he could have got in the way of new investment or um you know a takeover and you know if you're a conglomerate or a country or a consortium and you want to take over tottenham and daniel levy's in front of you you're gonna go you know what i can't be bothered with this i might as well go and buy newcastle or another football club a club that owner that wants to sell who isn't so entrenched in the identity of the football club that's probably what degraded the relationship with the lewis family if you believe the rumors yeah there was an explosion rumors it's all allegedly you know there's a lot of there's a lot of tasty rumors out there about incidents and and yeah there is glasses of wine so like so we won't talk about them but the you know the smoke fire you know there's definitely something that's happened behind the scenes as well but it's to do you know and you're right change for Tottenham the protests that that noise it builds into the portfolio of bad PR and and and sponsors potential buyers they don't want to come into a football club that has a bit of turmoil there was always these always these rumors that Levy wanted to stay on with any potential takeover as well yeah again that could be a complete fabrication and an exaggeration but yeah removing Daniel Levy is almost like blank canvas kind of because it resets everyone and that's not to say the people the people like change for Tottenham just you know retire and just put their feet up them the trust any any other kind of uh group should remain vigilant but to be fair we've got the change that we need everything else from this point forward should really be supportive of what we're doing on the pitch and then we just have to wait and see what the well they've do so they've You said that they'll continue to put pressure on the board, even though Daniel Levy's gone.

40:05Fair enough. Someone's got to do it. I guess they're better people than me. Someone's got to put that energy in. 100%. I just want to go to games, slump tea when he annoys me with bad opinions, have a drink, enjoy the football, and it's a bonus if we win. Obviously, I'm not going to sit and pretend that I don't want us to do well, and I don't get a little bit depressed when we have another reset and another reboot and we have to go again. So if they can lead with the football and change the philosophy. I do think there is part of me that if I was still blogging, there'd be this idea, this satirical idea around that movie with Samuel L.

Read the full transcript

40:47Jackson, he's glass. He's in the wheelchair. Unbreakable, right? And Bruce Willis. It's like Bruce Willis needed Samuel L. Jackson. He needed the nemesis. And now the nemesis is gone. So I think social media will now look for the new scapegoat. So that will be interesting because, believe me, there will be a new scapegoat in time. Of course. Because we will lose patience within a bubble. Because we're so abused by this football club, we can't say, do you know what? Let's give Frank two or three seasons. Let's actually just let it work towards something. We've seen what happened with Arteta at Arsenal.

41:28Unfortunately, it's a bad example. We've seen it happen at other football clubs. Liverpool took a little bit of time to find their way and correct mistakes. And then they made it. We never allow ourselves that space and time to do it. We're just so desperate. But it's also because Levy and company are so reactionary and have often just reset themselves. So, yeah, it will be really interesting to see what we do as a football club now. I am excited because it's the unknown. And that's enough for me to perk up and sit back and see what happens. Yeah, I just think it's undeniable that we were a certain club under Daniel Levy.

42:17And something needed to change to catapult us into the next stratosphere. into the stratosphere and there's no guarantee I mean you've got to be careful what you wish for people have been saying the most common term I've heard is it's all the grass is always greener fair but a lot of that is coming from fans of other football clubs pundits I've done a lot as you can imagine done a lot of like I got contacted by TalkSport and BBC and stuff like that to just speak about it and and a lot of that energy is coming from other fans of other football clubs and pundits and who who I think are very comfortable with Tottenham being the team that finishes fifth, sixth.

42:54And they really don't want Tottenham to be the team that's challenging the league. There is an element of disdain when you're on the overlap as well. I've named you three big things there, so apologies for that. I didn't want to. But when you're on the overlap, there is a disdain for our football club. It is real. And people, when you mention it, people are going, no, of course we don't care about you. They do. They all care about us. They hate us. They don't want us to succeed. And I think that there is a general nervous energy from Arsenal fans, from fans of other clubs, that something is going to change at Tottenham and it could change.

43:34And it may be one that isn't palatable for a lot of people. I think it's inevitable that Tottenham are going to be bought by a Qatari or a Saudi-Bacar or something like that. I think that is going to happen. I don't want it to happen, but I think it will. and regardless of the ethics involved, it will change the way Tottenham are seen and behave. And fans of football clubs don't like it. I've had so many conversations with Arsenal fans, not two-way conversations actually, people tweeting me as they do constantly, these fucking little scumbags. And they were saying, we love Daniel Levy, we love him.

44:12We want him to stay forever. And that comes from a particular place. yeah they celebrate him Daniel Levy is celebrated in Arsenal circles I did see like fan reaction TV on YouTube which is always a fun watch yeah they were all devastated hilarious like chairman that's what I mean that's how tethered football is let alone Spurs fans to Daniel Levy do you think guys like the first big win for Enoch, like new refreshed Enoch, would be to... A cheeky little bid for Harry Kane, bringing back in the summer. Getting to play in midfield, spray balls across the pitch. Paying four or five hundred grand a week.

45:02I could deal with that. I don't know if it would be a PR win, but I could definitely deal with that. I think if they went in for a bit more boring than you Spooky, sorry, but if they got Savino in in January, then... I'll take that as well. It'd be a bit of a statement of intent. Very much. Did you ask, did you ask, about Kane coming back, did you say? Yeah, that's a spooky moochie. There's a joke. 100%. Not in midfield, spray him. Nine. A nine. Just bring him back. He's so good. I don't think he's like, he's not, he's still as good as he was when he was here. Like, yes, if there was a word where it could happen, 100%.

45:41And is there, you know, with Daniel Levy, obviously was directly, Daniel Levy and don't get me wrong the sanctity of a football contract should be held up and respected right but Daniel really did screw him over by getting to sign that six year deal because he couldn't leave right he was stuck and to be fair to him apart from that little incident you know he did brilliantly for Tottenham even after it now that Levy's gone there could be he's got a house he's got a house in North London as well hasn't he yeah he's coming back come back come back come back come back maybe not Enfield but somewhere around there come back mate just to kind of go back on an earlier point I think we often speak about this pod I think we were a bit more militant in our early days about the power of protest and we feel powerless as fans I mean obviously they didn't obviously change the Tottenham and adjacent groups weren't solely responsible for for Levy but it's interesting that when he did go he saw all the banners about 24 years and one trophy all these things did i think the optics of that weren't great and i think part of them going to probably the optics of you know we're tuning up against man city and we're saying we want levy out and you've got these massive banners one was blocked my fucking view for a few minutes of the born of game last season never forget that but a massive banner saying we want levy out i think all these things had an effect and i think it may give a little hope to fans that maybe the power of protest does work i don't think we're as well organized as liverpool where they'd all walked out in the 70th minute or something of a game.

47:14I don't know if we will ever be that well organised because as a fan, but you don't like being told what to do by anyone, even if it's the correct thing to do. Yeah, that's what makes us different. I think that this whole thing does say, you know what, maybe if you protest, something can change. Mate, full respect to him. Like, incredible work. Like, again, we'd always... Steady. Steady. Spooky. They did something. They got off their arse. Mate, they did. It's just like I said, I'd never share a pint with them because I just think... I don't want to go through this again. It's just silly. I've changed, mate.

47:50I'm not on Twitter anymore. I completely respect what they've done. I don't agree with... I don't agree with... It's like me and you, us, we can have a conversation and say, we want Levy gone, right? But it's a completely different conversation to another group of people having the same conversation. It's quite hard to articulate that. If you listen to the way we talk about the football club and everyone's different, right? Everyone has a different way of using football as a conduit for their own life frustrations and the rest of it. Some people are so bought into football to the point where they can't disconnect from any of it.

48:32Whereas for me, it's still this grand escapism. and it's only made great because of people because of people I go to football with and you guys. That's the only reason football's fucking great and I don't want to poison that by hating Levy and Enoch more than I fucking love the football club. So yeah, credit to them, no doubt and T's completely right. We should be more organised but we should also be a little bit more potent. Bad transfer windows, I kind of get it. You kind of add them all up and you can say, yeah fair enough there's there's a trend here that's never going away until levy goes away right um the whole one or two cups in 20 odd years yeah fair play we've lost a lot of semi-finals and a lot of cup finals and what was that down to was that down to levy was it down to the club not having enough players for us to win those games or was it just down to the optics of the fucking selection and on the day we just didn't have that culture of winning and that again can go back to Levy.

49:33I don't think things like this are not binary but at a very high level you can turn it binary and you can fix it by it being binary and in this case, Levy going is the best thing that could happen to this football club because now we have an opportunity to prove exactly who we truly are without the weight of this guy that's kind of been a burden for so long. He's done a lot of good things. you know Beyonce can call North London her home now all this kind of shit he's done a lot of good things we've got an amazing stadium we can turn that stadium into something special like White Hart Lane only if the football delivers and I guess that's what he could not deliver and that's what we're waiting for I'm just going to go back to my original point Alex if he's listening just because that's like a personal attack Alex from Bristol good because he's a prick despite what Spooky's all his speakers and I agree with a lot of it change to Tottenham was really really good I think it's a good and whether or not it's a you ever you agree with them or not it showed that we are there are people out there that can get off their asses and do something because they believe that something needs to change and that needs to be celebrated and it needs to be you know they they did something in a way that was non-violent non-aggressive but potent and got through to the mainstream media that is so difficult to do and so they should be given massive massive credit for that and i'm not giving them the the full credit of removing denilevi i think it's just on its own it wouldn't have done that but it would have added to the conversation for sure and you've got to give them respect i think that's what i think anyway t loves them yeah mate yeah man subscribe to everything that they do yeah what is going on what the fuck is that no I'm joking I'm joking credit to them seriously their comms can do a bit of work I'm happy to help if they ever need yeah that's going to happen isn't it so we've got a couple more questions

51:40Space Scene says thoughts on a possibility of a Qatari takeover how do you feel about that boys go and see you go first mate thanks throw me under the fucking bus it's not ideal but it feels like it's inevitable and there's not a great deal we can do it, it wouldn't be ideal the ideal would be that Enoch can generate that money themselves to make us a super power but the investment's going to probably come from somewhere where we would rather it didn't and it is what it is really, I'll probably still go to games I will still go to games will still be on the podcast doesn't mean that i preach doesn't mean i agree and that i'm in support of all these human rights violations that certain people have done but i love tottenham and i just you know it's not something i can just easily walk away from i think the vast majority of fans don't give a shit honestly i don't know i might do a poll find out but i don't i don't think you'll notice the people that don't go anymore no and and and respect to the ones that do i mean i mean fair play um i do believe that um it shouldn't take for your club to do it to walk away if you know i mean football has become a little immoral over the last 20 or so years and um if it takes it happening to your club for you to walk away then obviously everyone's got the limit and if that's the limit then then fair enough but um i don't know i just need i need that escapism and i guess if i stop going i'll just be at home screaming at the tv anyway so yeah and the thing if you stop going no one knows exactly unless i tweet on every single unless i post on every social media everybody yeah i'm not there everyone look i gave up you should too it's like like for me like the thing that i always was proud of is that tottenham are trying to do it the right way right and obviously the right way would just mean failure every single time like because of the way you know certain football clubs laundered money and the rest of it and just change the whole spectacle of football in terms of this is the actual template you do need to to play by uh to be able to be successful um i just realized that i'm a hypocrite anyway in life like we can sit here and talk about iphone batteries and fucking sweatshops and all the clothes that we wear and there's countless things that you just people are selective in their politics and and and what brings a fence as well because there's too much shit going on in the planet right you can't pay attention to everything and you can't have an opinion on everything so the nature is for us to be selective on what bothers us now when it comes to something like football which is quite trivial in terms of in terms of the world and everything that's going on in the world but we take it really fucking seriously right it's the one thing that we talk about and think about more than anything i mean especially you flag because it's your fucking job as well but like we're in the groups we see each other at football all the conversations i have like predominantly every single day i think about football more than i think about my daughter who's in the next room and hopefully didn't hear that so so so it dominates us so it's it's very important that our football club is also representative of something good and wholesome and the rest of it even though it's like all about money so i'm sat here thinking if they take over what am i going to do and and t just nailed it i can't stop supporting tottenham i'm not that good of a person to be able to say i don't agree with the human rights stuff that the potentially could be brought out by an american consortium but even they if you trace it back might have do you any anyone who's a billionaire has dubious you know history right let's let's just agree to that so yeah so i i why would i punch myself in the dick and and and take away tottenham who have been punching me in the dick for decades now but why would i take away that pain yeah sweet sweet pain because i i disagree with something that's going on and i know people listening to this are probably thinking that's so disappointing spooky but i i am not a white knight I know one or two people would disagree.

55:58I would just be a hypocrite and say, fuck it, I want Spurs to give me that escapism. But I won't celebrate the ownership. I would want to see the ownership make decisions and moves to basically prove that they are. And deep down, we know those are just PR moves as well, right? Because they're not going to change their genuine beliefs and politics from back home. They're changing it for the sake of being this global brand. And a lot of them have done that over the years and people just forget about it and move on. So good luck to you if you just stop supporting Tottenham because of it. It means you've fallen out of love with the game.

56:43I'm not anywhere near that yet. So it would not be the end for me, unfortunately. I would just crack on because fucking die in my sleep, innit? I want to have fun when I am awake. Yeah. And the thing is, people get annoyed, right? Yeah, but what if? But you dig deep enough in any part of our culture, you'll find some serious issues. And you're confronted by the potential ownership of Qatari, and it may never happen, right? It could be that Tottenham, what's the maximum we can spend, really, typically, unless we start sort of cooking the books? like Chelsea do, or develop their kind of way about it.

57:25Like, I don't know if you've seen the belt of Ben Chilwell, sold to. Yeah, mental. How does that even work? It's that multi-club model. It's dodgy as fuck, man. 65 million, and they bought a player back from him, from Chelsea, from Strasbourg to Chelsea for 250 ,000. Ozark levels of financing. I don't know what that means. What do you mean Ozark? Hey, a reference that you don't get. Don't explain, Is it about a TV program? Yes. So you're basically just in a reference that maybe 5 % of our audience might know about. They might not. So what's happened? It's about laundering money for the cartel.

58:03So it's like... Do you know what it means, T? I know it's about dodgy business, but I don't know exactly what it means. I'm good enough. I like those references. Do you? Despina says, I am a new fan here. Most importantly, I'm a girl. Is that most important, Despina? Did I make the right choice to start listening to you guys? You seem funny.

58:27Probably. Too late now. It's too late, you're in. Direct Debit just said, did I make the pod? Yeah, there you go, if you want. Dom says, how annoyed are you by how quickly people change their very public stance on Levy? He's turned from being the biggest fraud in football into a steady pair of hands or be missed. if you had a balanced view before fine but lots didn't and now trying to take the moral high ground um history will tell us mate we have to wait and see what happens in the next 10 years we'll look back and perhaps we're what about people who shifted quickly people i don't give a shit about people changing their minds your mind is there to be changed no one has the same fucking opinion forever.

59:15Once upon a time, I thought Gareth Bale should be a left back. He shouldn't be a winger. And he's one of the best wingers that's ever played in English football. I had a bad opinion and when you get more information on that opinion and you realise your opinion might be wrong, you switch. I don't know, maybe when Levy's gone you realise maybe you were a bit hasty in sending them death threats on Twitter or whatever the fuck these people do. And you realise, you know what, maybe he was alright. And this is the problem with social media in general is that people become defined by their opinions but i don't know if i've got an opinion on something over a period of time i might realize that maybe i was wrong now there's some people who have really dreadful opinions on stuff and over the years because no one tends to admit their opinion straight away i mean some people do but over a period of time you will receive a level of information that makes you think hmm maybe i should take a step back and think but will these people who these guys are fervent to admit that this has happened probably not which is why he's annoyed but yeah i don't give a shit about people changing their minds i can understand where he's coming from domina i think my reaction to this has been a reaction to the reaction if that makes any sense and that's pathetic in itself but i just um i think anybody who wanted him gone anybody it's i think there's i think if you're looking at daniel levy and people are calling him like a cancer at a football club that's crazy to me right if you can't look at you can't you can want him gone and and still acknowledge the good work that he has done over the last 25 years and acknowledge the bad stuff as well but you can look at it holistically and go actually you know it was right the time was right for him to go we're glad to see him gone but also respect the good work he did that is perfectly fine that i think that's what i'm not telling people how to how they should feel but that's exactly how everyone should feel in my opinion maybe the people who defended him made them so angry that they kind of went went that way you know maybe they say oh how can people not see that he's a cancer of the club you know and then they get more and more entrenched in in that view and that's probably why i mean there's people who are leaving there's people who are leaving in who are irritated by the extremists who say he should die and also just speak quickly you know when you're doing a podcast as well you say stuff you forgot you said it your opinion changes and you didn't know you had the opinion before before anyway right case in point on football between the lines but i'll do with hrtco right i was saying about gocarez i was saying he's going to cost over 100 million pounds and this is a player that we would never be involved one of the criticisms of daniel levy was we'd never be involved in a conversation to sign gocarez we wouldn't right i said that on record how they're like this is the problem with tottenham yesterday i put a tweet out saying voldemada is a better fault number number nine than gokeriz i don't i don't believe that right but just wind some gooners up right some geezer went hang on a minute oh last season all you were talking about is tottenham would never be in the conversation for gokeriz i know i know i know i've just changed my mind completely because it suits my agenda it does oh yeah yeah it's funny how how much weight people put on things and then kind of pull them out of the air from a year or two back and try and use it as a bullet in the gun.

1:02:35Like it doesn't, and this is the brilliant thing about football, right? We do change our minds all the time. We love players. We hate players. We love managers. We hate managers. It's not meant to be taken seriously and yet it's the most serious thing that people can talk about because people don't want to talk about all the other shit because all the other shit is actually quite grim at least football has that potential to give you something fucking great and make you feel euphoric and and and you're feeling that with a collective as well which makes it even more powerful it's like if you're at a gig or like a a club and the djs fucking dropping some absolute bangers and you're if you stood alone in that on that fucking dance floor it wouldn't have the same impact but if you're surrounded by people that all buy into that moment it is fucking magical and that's what football gives you it threatens you with this fucking unbelievable potential to make you feel invincible and we've had that we've had that at Tottenham under Poch and we've had pockets of it in certain games and we just want you know maybe there's no such thing anymore as like like dominating I mean City have proven the opposite that you can dominate a league for a long time but I don't necessarily want that I just want the entry-level stuff um and and for every opinion that I might have had it will just disappear because it won't matter when when that moment arrives it doesn't matter what you thought about what you thought was right five minutes ago let alone five years ago like it's just how it makes you feel in that moment and everything else is just noise that got you to that to that moment people put a lot of weight into especially social media this is my identity i hate levy i'm not gonna fucking have anything said to me that will make me change my mind okay you probably you're probably like that with everything in life and that's just you and i'm gonna change you good luck to you um just open yourself up to a bit of joy and happiness and i think now we can all agree we're all on the same page because we're in a world where levy no longer exists in the present future.

1:04:44Indeed. I just saw a tweet where the camera went across the England line-up and it had like four Arsenal players and some bloke just went to the Arsenal with the Lion and Owen THFC, I think you've seen him, he's quite a big Twitter account, he says, I was wondering why England was so boring to watch. Beautiful. So simple. Very good. So beautiful. Right then, boys, thank you very much. Great fight. Cock will be back on Thursday at some point. and um i've got to do a shout out before you finish yeah go on so yesterday i went to card factory in harrow other good card shops are available and i served by a good bloke called kenny who's also you know massive spurs with a massive tattoo down his forearm which he showed me um good lad so big up kenny and card factory from harrow that's it hang on hang on how do you what how did did does he listen to the pod how do you know i was spurs so i was in there with my son who was wearing last season's green away shirt.

1:05:41Gotcha. Nice shirt there. And then he showed me his tight, which was all the way down his form. It said, to dare is to do. And you know, obviously we got chatting a bit and good service. Did you talk, tell him about the fighting cock? No. Maybe someone will tell him. Maybe he listens or maybe someone will tell him. I don't know. Kenny from Car Factory in Harrow. Is that right? Yes.
