44I made possibly the best roast dinner any man has ever made before. And I say man, because I'm going to be bold here, boys. I'm going to say it's a man's job. It's a man's job to cook a Sunday roast. Okay. You know there's masculine meals and feminine meals? Yeah. Yeah. Your mum makes masculine meals all the time. What would that be then? Beef well-in burger. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know. I don't know though because it's Aunt Bessie, not Uncle Bessie. True. True. Aunt Bessie. If you think Aunt Bessie, what do you think? Roast dinners. That's what you think. It's not the best. I'm just saying.

25they also yeah if i hear aunt bessie i just think i know i never i want to have a roast in at your house ever yeah yeah well you're i mean ricky's the kind of guy who makes his own yeah yeah you got it you got it do you know what i i i don't do that i buy pre-made ones from sainsbury's that are soft but because they are really nice and i just don't want to fuck it up by fucking up yorkshire's i've got to say ricky maybe i'm holding my hands up here and being honest now maybe I didn't make the best. No, I don't think you did. After you said that, you definitely didn't make the best. You've set up like a personal Instagram account now that no one who listens to this podcast will ever see, right?

04Because it's private. Like, I don't want anyone to see my kids in case a paedophile gets them. It's for fuck. That's why I haven't accepted you in there.

15He has everybody. I'm not a paedophile.

19but I saw a roast dinner you made you boiled boiled veg wasn't fucking but you couldn't even see the veg in the photo you couldn't John boiled veg no like boiled broccoli no broccoli's fine boiled parsnips that's what you had no I wouldn't have had parsnips anyway I tell you what is a boiled parsnip Tottenham Hotspur's performance against wolves yeah just describe it something You have to eat, but you don't want to. I don't even know if anyone's ever boiled a parsnip to the point where that's the end of the cooking process before. But that's how I would describe our draw against wolves. It was a boiled parsnip.

57Yeah, because a parsnip can be exceptional, right? If you put a bit of glaze on that bad boy, you stick that bad boy into roast. Honey glaze is what I'm saying. You season that motherfucker up, it's going to be delicious. You boil it, on the other hand, and what you're looking at is essentially a flavorless mess. This is what I'm talking about. It kind of feels like it could be so much more special, this team and Frank, and inevitably it will. I'm very calm. I'm happy. But it's like it is a boiled vegetable at the moment and it needs to be roasted and glazed. and it was just it just felt like i was i was i was i was i'd lost my mind by the end have you noticed there's a pattern forming rick specifically in the whatsapp groups i'm not i wasn't in the whatsapp group i couldn't fucking listen to no and everyone having a chat about fucking moaning get me out of that yeah yeah i don't want to be in a whatsapp group when spurs are losing hate it so i lock it and i think fuck you lot i'm not listening to you so i was in my own my own thoughts watching wolves yeah with my dad and i've been in a pub all day oh god ricky john i was slaughtered by the time by the time the game kicked off i was slaughtered and insular you know when you get to you're drunk and you're in your own head yeah that was me for about 90 minutes of the game um and i'm just getting more and more and more frustrated as we just unable to just knock that fucking door down not even getting couldn't even get to the door to knock it down and then by the end I'd lost my mind but I was silently lost my mind right and I had to get my missus to drive me to my studio because I had to I had a five statements patreon podcast to make I sat there and I recorded for 15 minutes it was the worst thing I've ever done the worst podcast I've ever produced really he's shit he's shit get him out he's a shit this guy's a myth it was one of them ones and I didn't put it out you didn't put it out I was going to say I'm going to go back and listen no I can give I can send you the recording if you want good yeah please it was never published how did you process it John Boy well I kind of watched it in reverse order it was basically like an episode it was like the film Tenet so I basically started it from 90 minutes and just passed down to the first minute rewind it going this is a good start fucking hell

27no basically I went to a wedding on Saturday night. That's right. I told you boys about Mumford & Sons played the first dance, the actual band. What? Yeah, that was mental. How rich was this person? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll just say yeah. Yeah, fair. It was upper society. Did you want to play the... Mumford & Sons? What? Did he just come in and play that one song? So they played... I don't really... I'm not a massive fan of their music, so I don't really know, but they've got one song with some guy from Senegal. they also flew him over to sing this one song that was it fuck off yeah and then they played like a couple of songs afterwards um and then yeah that was it they were off see you later i will wait i will wait for you yeah all that all of that that was a couple of first albums all right i thought yeah there you go i'll tell him that next time i see him um maybe at the christening and um yeah so i couldn't watch the game live so i had to basically i was catching up with Sky Sports updates, which is hell, isn't it?

29If you've ever been in a place where you can't watch the game and you're getting updates and getting people coming over to me and knew I was a Spurs fan going, oh, it's in the score. I'm like, fuck's sake. And then I watched it the next day knowing what had happened. So this is what I mean about watching it kind of in reverse. I was sort of, to coin my own phrase, pre-annoyed, right, about what was going to happen. I knew I was going to be annoyed. I knew it was going to be a shit game. And I was trying to watch it through the lens of like, well, let me just see, is this people reacting because they were emotional or pissed up in your case, Flav?

56Or was this actually really bad? I think it is fair to say it was bad, right? There's no hiding that. But I'm still very much in the mindset of like, this isn't like six months time. This is six games in. And I just feel like it's so easy. And I think I spoke about this last time I was on. It's so easy to get caught up in their bottom of the league, their shit, we're at home, we should win. Like all of that is fair enough to feel that way. But you do also need to remember like it's six games in, no madison no kulisovsky we're still like we've got no like solanke we've still got players coming back we've still got a load of new signings we're trying to embed you've got a new manager with new system new ways of working we're still able to even in that moment uh pick up a point now i know it's again it's it seems frustrating when you're like the context of wolves are shit and haven't won a game all season and we're at home but we could have easily lost that game and we were losing games like that last year consistently.

53Let's not forget that. So I'm always optimistic person anyway, but I've just viewed this through the lens of like, in isolation, this game was horrible, but in the bigger picture, we're just picking up some more points. Like we just keep going. When we didn't play well, we got something out of it and I've got to take something from that. So yeah, I think I dealt with it all right. How about you, Rick? What John said, next question. I'm only checking. I think he's right. No, I think the boiled parsnip analogy had a bit of salt bay of Wolves, bottom of the league. Wolves not won a game. Liverpool lost.

32Chelsea lost. We could have taken this opportunity and mixed in with that performance. And I'm going to be honest here, lads. I think I'll probably be the only one, but I didn't think it was that horrendous a performance because I felt like we did try and work on, so we've been guilty of not being able to produce anything in the final third. And we need to have shown that we can move the ball between our kind of midfielders and wingers. And there was a lot of passages of play where it was quite neat, where Goodes and Bergvold were linking up and other players, Spence as well, Udogi was getting forward but it was just that little bit where it's just like, ah, mate ah, he's over here, ah, he's like, whatever it might have been, but it was you know, once we fine tune that it will be we'll look a totally different side and we'll feel a lot better than how we did on Saturday and then, obviously I was sitting there, I went there with my daughter and it was like 80th minute and losing 1-0 and I said to her we could play this game another 90 minutes and we're still not going to score we're just waiting we're all just waiting until like the 90th minute of blow the whistle and us to be annoyed so when we got that goal I was like fuck it isn't waiting another 90 minutes we actually did score so at the end of the day I was like do you know what even though 1-1 against bottom of the side bottom of the league Wolves and it isn't the result that I wanted, expected, and we should be putting away teams like that easily.

18We got a point out of it and I'm happy about that because to come away from that game where we'd lost again at home to Wolves, it would have fucking stung a hell of a lot more. It's like Pereira took that boiled parsnip and just put it in his arse for a bit and then put it back on our plate. Yeah. And there was loads of arse pubes stuck to the... There would be loads. Yeah. he's gone hold on a second that isn't done straight up there uh i think that's the thing isn't it's the it's the expectation on top of the performance so you're expecting to beat walls because every fucker's beat walls and obviously the dr tottenham thing isn't real it is real by the way it is real it will always be real and will always be dr tottenham yeah um because it can't keep fucking happening or maybe do we just look for these patterns it's like confirmation bias isn't it you're looking for them and or maybe it is just true and we are a fucking rollover merchant for shitty little clubs that need to pick me up um yeah so it's i want to do another mum joke then but it's just too early it's just too early what i was gonna say is like it's when you you haven't pulled on a night out and you call ricky's mum at 4 a.m you need a little pick me up like that that's what she'll asleep by then she doesn't mind when she's asleep she's fine she's fine she said don't worry if I'm asleep my mouth will be open but in this scenario I knew you were going to say that I knew she's asleep and I knew what were you going to say there that's rape Flav dirty pig oh yeah I could see what you're going with no she said oh here we go here we go she's got a little sign tricked himself up and fell in my mum you dirty pig she's got a little sign by the bed that says if i'm asleep i'm still consenting no photo of me just that no you're next to it pride and joy anyway um yeah so there's a there's an expectation to beat them and when it doesn't happen it compounds the the negativity and that's that's that's what it is really i i think my problem with it and it was it was my mental state rather than what the reality of watching that game is, which is why I chose to go back and re-record five statements a day later because the first one was so poor.

41And it's just that, it's like, surely this is an opportunity now. It's an opportunity for us to beat Wolves at home and for us to kick on and sort of cement in the short term our place in the top four. And we weren't able to do that, which was frustrating. And there's been multiple occasions where we have done it. But if you look at our waveform, form if you look at going to away to West Ham away to Brighton who've just beaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge 3-1 away to Manchester City we've won those games in really convincing manner like that sorry we drew against Brighton but the performance was worthy of a win we were really good it's just when we're at home things shift a little bit I don't know if it's an expectation or it's just one of those things when you're not creating a great deal of chances you will win some and you will lose some.

29Sometimes it will go for you, sometimes it won't. But there is, in terms of, while defensively we're solid and, you know, the goal we conceded against Wolves was somewhat fortuitous and somewhat down to Vacario Palmin at the, at the, who is it? Did it hit? Strand Larson and then, I don't think it was an own goal. No, I think it hit our defender and then as it was rolling, I looked at him and was like, fuck, and then someone got their toe on the end of it. Sean Larson got it, I think. But, but, um, Bueno, I think. Bueno, yeah, Kinder Bueno. It wasn't Sean Larson. I was so apoplectic with rage. I was spitting.

09I couldn't see for all the rage I was currently feeling. I was like, no, no, no. But when, when Palina scored, I didn't move, Rick. I was that angry with, in my own head. And I hadn't said a word for about 40 minutes and dad was like, are you all right? And I'm like, you fucking talk to me. You just fucking talk to me, father um but there was yeah i mean it's defensively solid it's just we just can't seem to kind of knit the forward play together at the moment i don't know if you've seen like the xg for uh for spurs in all of our five or six six games now have been under one yeah maybe um which is a worry but it's these this is a process john right it's a process it's like you've got to fix parts of the team, start with the defence, move forward.

57It's not like they're looking at it and going, this is fine. Of course they're going to find ways to do it. And a lot of it hinges on Dom Solanke, in my opinion, and maybe Kolo Mawani, but definitely Dom Solanke, because we know that Charleston isn't the guy who can lead the line for Spurs and us want to achieve anything. So it requires quality players to come back to the team. And I can't believe they're going to miss Bodo Glimpse as well. I cannot believe that. yeah they're out but both of them are out for what is now fourth game but for moani it's a fourth game in it yeah yeah it's frustrating maybe there is something in it though like if again if we we talked about this like a couple of weeks ago as well around frank's obviously made a conscious decision to go let's be solid first right let's build that as our foundation and then the attacking side of our play will will come and we'll work on that but let's just get this defensive side more solid the thing when you do that is obviously like if you're not putting as much onus on the attacking when you're at home against teams who just sit in that's the bit you need the most right and that's the bit we've worked on the least let's say so it's not really that surprising if you just follow it logically that when we play against teams that want to sit in we struggle a bit more versus teams where there's a bit more space so typically when we play at home a lot of teams are going to come and sit in so we are particularly this season probably gonna not see that much flow in football in those games but to your point Flav like when we've gone away from home and the onus and the pressure is on those teams to come out and play a bit and there's a bit more space and we've got space for our players to go into we do seem to perform a little bit better in those games so I think there's just an aspect of again this comes down to the context of where we are in Frank's reign the sort of players that we've got available and where the system and the tactics are at at this moment in time so that's why I don't think it's like cause for major concern because all of those things in time will improve.

47If they don't, then we can panic. But for now, I'm like, we've got to wait, I think. Did your daughter enjoy the game, Ricky? No, not really. I think she was... Bored, a bit bored. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, probably wanted to go home. Yeah, I would have done. I wanted to go home as well, to be honest with you. I couldn't even bother to get up and turn the TV off. That's how I was. there was a moment in the first half where you're just looking for that spark, that moment and Kudus linked up with Beraval there's a couple of little sort of cheeky little backhills in there, Kudus went through and buries the goal it was like, it was quite, I mean it was obviously offside but that's in us it takes those moments and I said this on the Five Statements podcast on Patreon it was in these games you'd look for moments and sometimes they come off and sometimes they don't.

42And against West Ham, there was a couple of things that really went our way, like Berevel's jinking run through the box and for it to fall to Van de Ven. That went our way. That was a moment that went our way. It could have gone many other ways in that moment. And Romero's ball over to Berevel, who expertly nodded home. That is a difficult chance with a high XG, if you believe it, if you have any faith in that metric at all. But on another day, it might not have happened. and so on this day things didn't we were trying it just wasn't as cohesive as it needed to be and um yeah i just i'm not losing my mind i'm actually quite uh you know as ever quite confident and happy about where we are it's just going to take time to find those forward plays that and put together the machinations that produce a result um yeah yeah i mean like exactly what what you just said.

39I mean, that, that passage of play between, uh, Birdville and Kudus and he scored a great goal. And there was, when the ball came over, Kudus got his head on it and the keeper, great save. And it hit, uh, hit against the bar. There was another time where a dogie beat his man as he was driving forward. He just slowed up a bit, delayed the crossing. I don't know whether because he didn't see anyone in the box or his, he just thought he'd take another touch. But by the time he put it across, I think Doherty had slid in and blocked it. There was another time where we were on the break, Richarlison had the ball at his feet.

15He was passing it to Kudus. It was like a proper telegraphed, I'm going to pass right there. Didn't wait for the defender to commit to him, to open up a bit more. Just slight little fine-tuning bits here and there. And, you know, we would have scored a hatful. So that's why I'm not, like, majorly concerned, And even though we drew it home to Wolves that are bottom of the league, which is fucking really disappointing, but it's not something that I'm, I don't know, I'm not too down in the dumps about it. Well, it's interesting you say that because we're working with Fan Narrative who are helping us put together information that other people wouldn't have for their podcast, basically.

58Anyway, and they did an analysis on the emotional impact of the result and how people were feeling. So focus in only four emotions that stood out in the reaction. And this is how it was broken down in four different. So it's either embarrassing, progress, angry, or content. So 14 % were embarrassed by the result. 25 % saw progress. 24 % were angry. And 35 % were content. Where would you put yourself in that? content embarrassed angry or progress what is it oh i mean i wasn't angry i didn't think it's progress and i wasn't content so fucking hard how about philosophical yeah i'd go for that i'd go content for the reasons i've stated right which is like on balance we could have easily lost that game.

01We didn't. And I'm content in the aspect of I believe this will get better. I'm not looking at this one thing. I'm content in that we've got the right man in charge and it will eventually get it right. So, yeah, I'd probably go that. Did we lose at home to Wolves last season? Yeah, we always lose. Right, okay. So we've got a draw. So that's progress. That is progress. It's progress, yeah.

26Vicario made some good saves, but I mean there was criticisms about he's commanding of the box he's passing out is an issue, he passed out a couple of times any part of you want to see Kinski run in the team or are we still fully backing Vicario boys? I'm still fully backing Vicario I think it's early days man six Prem games in and although he has played the cup games as well i don't know how much how much as a goalkeeper like if you were practicing your goal kicks and kicking how much of that do you actually improve like is it because he's in a in a match scenario crowd bit of pressure hasn't got that time on the ball and it's just not you know not clicking for him will he ever improve because if he isn't improving his kicking, then fucking let's get Kinski in.

28He can kick, right? That's what I'm saying. The composure on the ball. I'm not saying that Kinski is a better all-round goalkeeper than Vacario. It's just there's bits that when Vacario looks particularly vulnerable, he's kicking out with his left foot. He looks awkward the way he kicks. Yeah. And taking the ball under pressure. He looks like the last place on earth he wants to be is in that moment receiving the ball, given the way we've been playing and playing out from the back, Kinski also looks beautifully comfortable. He looks like he could play outfield. Do you know what I mean? John, what do you make of Paulina?

09I mean, he's had a sensational start, not least because he's got three goals in the six games that he's been involved in. He's playing a number six, which shouldn't be really involved in goal, goal involvement. But an impeccable finish when the ball was played back to him. After good work from Tell, I want to say. Every time Tell does something good, we're going to highlight it on this podcast. We need to boost this boy up, not fucking break him down. Okay? So I want to point out the fact that he cut back and he played a ball into Papsar. He delicately laid it back and Paulina just sort of passed it into the bottom corner.

48It was a beautiful goal I was just too angry and pissed to fully appreciate it uh it was a sensational finish like I think it's because it was like relief more than joy that it went in it's not really getting the fan it's a really nice feeling like cushion pass right into the corner also it's always nice to see a footballer with a similar physique as me I was like what the hell yeah he looks like he's let himself go yeah they'll let anyone play it's Reflection in your TV. Yeah. I was like, God, fantastic. Yeah, so that was nice to see. I mean, in all seriousness, he is absolutely shredded. It looks mental.

28It looks like AI. I've heard that women don't actually like it. They like it. They don't like that shredded sort of Peter Andre look. Yeah. They're looking for sort of like deflated tyre sort of vibes. Yeah, sort of men look sort of slightly bloated and a bit ill. Yeah. that's really what they're after but yeah look he's been he's been brilliant like I don't think there's any way around it I didn't expect him to basically he's probably like our joint top scorer isn't he I wasn't really expecting that and in a way I sort of hope that doesn't continue and that we don't well we don't need it to continue should I say but he's just brilliant I think we all knew he was really good at just like intercepting stuff tackling I don't know why but I always had this impression that he was sort of like a silent almost like a bit of a passenger that you just wouldn't notice him in a team but what I've really noticed about him is his like leadership qualities and he does have this like aura of seniority around the squad particularly but like on the pitch he does feel like a like a leader which is one of those terms that gets used a lot that Spurs need more leaders like he definitely is one and I think we've seen that in the way that he's like taking the reins in certain games because before that goal there was another opportunity where we were on the break and he had a couple of options out wide one was poro i think and then he decided to basically have a shot and everyone went fucking mad at him which is fair enough because we were on a break and it wasn't a great position but to then when that ball drops to him to have the confidence to go no i'm gonna i'm still gonna shoot this time even though last time didn't go well that's the sort of stuff that leaders do that's the sort of stuff that senior pros do and that's what you have them in the team for so i i think he will be like outside of what we got him for his number six abilities just his aura, as the kids would say, and his ability to bring so much more to the rest of the players, I think is going to be invaluable for us this season.

21I've been so impressed with him. He's actually loads better than I thought he was. He's really good. Would you spend£27 million on him in the summer? Yep. Easy. I'll do it now. Yeah, in a heartbeat, for sure. Yeah, same. Chris, Chris. Sorry, what do you boys make of the, as John said, when he pulled off his shirt and celebrated? because I've seen quite a bit of kickback online that scored in the 94th minute. He should have done that typical run to the goal, grab the ball out the net, stick it back on the centre circle. We can fucking get another one and win it. But he chose to take his shirt off and celebrate and kill more time.

03It doesn't kill more time because he's selling it on, but I don't have a problem with that at all, really. No, I didn't either. He's equalised. I know I get it against Wolves. and by the way, I don't know if I've mentioned, I was so pissed and angry I couldn't really appreciate the goal. But in the cold light of day when I'm sober and hungover, I just thought that it was a fucking great goal. And we didn't look like scoring at all. So in that moment, he saved us a point. And I would never be critical of a player being super enthusiastic about scoring for our football club, for fuck's sake. Yeah.

41I just don't understand what's changed in football. Like, yes, you go into that Wolves game and you're going to win. But when it's 93 minutes on the clock and you're 1-0 down, the best you're going to get is 1-0. So if that then happens with an outside-the-area Perla, you go fucking mental. That's always been the way I don't really understand. If now we get into the top four, let's say, by one point, that would have been the point. You can make the case for that and go, well we could have just given it up because what was the point of getting a point against like it doesn't make any sense one point is better than no points well it's the same thing like some Arsenal fans were going off at Martinelli for getting that equaliser against Man City no you should have gone back what did you do during that game you fucking drunk four pints of beer and ate a burger you fucking slug shut up yeah and also this whole argument of like oh because he celebrated means they can't then go on and try and win it like I don't well that also doesn't make sense to your point Flav if anything it adds on time so people should be going more mental because then there's more time and then they've got more time to get the winning goal.

44Think about it. We do have a question here from Chris. She's come up with a great idea and I rate it highly. Should we normalise players... Should we normalise players pulling down their shorts and pants to celebrate? I've added the pants. To celebrate last-minute goals instead of taking off their kits as Paulinho celebrations seem to affect the delicate sensibilities of quite a few were offended by passion and six packs. Yeah, there was a part of that. I was like, put it back on you fucking Adonis. I don't need to be, not only am I pissed and angry, I don't want to be fat shamed as well. The thing is though, it's not like, I don't know, we're playing five a side for some reason people are recording it and then I score and I whip my top off and I've just been secretly in the gym for like a year and now i'm like ripped right that's mental they're professional athletes they're supposed to be ripped if you look at them go oh god that's a bit unfair they're supposed to be like that what do you mean he is great he is to use danny boy is it danny boy yeah high grade isn't he he is a high grade human being he's a high grade man that is like the pinnacle he's a millionaire professional footballer looks like that face sweetheart of a face as well yeah lovely face like if there was a world where i was homosexual i'd probably let him have a go on me but in my current state and he'd have to decide whether or not he'd want to and it'd be deeply depressing when he just goes no no but what but to chris's question here wouldn't it be fantastic if it was the opposite is if the shorts and pants came down he scored a goal he's standing there and there's just this sort of sweaty withered cock and balls yeah and he's on the on the advertising hoardings going yeah yeah I'd love that shorts were spinning around the top of his head and his cock's just windmilling in the same rhythm but he takes off like a Chinook that is a feltage one yeah he's he's I mean it's fine it's great it's all good he's he's only his biggest total of goals for a football club is 7 for Fulham in 68 performances he's got 3 in 6 games or 7 games for Spurs get 30 he'll get 30 this year probably probably

28but Houston Review he says what is Benton Corr and what does he offer?

36I mean there's more but we'll start with that. I don't have any problems with Benton Corr, I think he's a decent player. I think the problem is that he has a similar profile to Beroval and probably you could even put Sar in that group. I'm not sure if he plays or if he doesn't play, one of them plays but he doesn't improve our midfield massively. I don't think he's the problem with Spurs at all. I think the problem is getting Javi Simmonds in that 10 and playing an actual winger on the left-hand side. We need to move towards that rather than having a 10 of Bentoncourt or Berevel or Sarr. I think part of the reason why we find it seems difficult to break down is we don't have James Madison or a fire in Javi Simmonds in that 10.

27but what are your thoughts of Ben Sankara boys I mean I like him as a footballer not as a person no I'm only joking why did you say that what what about not as a person is it about the Humin Son stuff no it's a joke it was just I like him as a player I just need clarity when you say stuff I don't okay you think he's racist is that what it is no no no no I think if you go back to that time, probably what he said was racist. Oh, yeah, yeah, it was, yeah. I wouldn't say he is racist. I think he made a racist remark. Yeah, according to his ban, it was pretty racist. Yeah, pretty racist. What was it, a 12-game ban or something, wasn't it?

12Yeah, you had a 12-game ban. It was 12 games. I don't know, it felt ages. It was loads. It was loads. It was a 12-game racist ban. Yeah, it was a 12-year ban, Rick, for racism. Yeah, what? there was a weird sort of black spot in your career oh shit yeah there's a there's a spot in your career there and uh you know you you missed 12 games was it injured nah just racist when i i'm just saying some racist shit you know racist stuff when i was in my own country i didn't think anyone was listening yeah i was in i was in uh okay was it uruguay uruguay yeah i was in uruguay we're all racist there say what we want and then some fucking dickhead put it on social media and then I've served a 12 game ban.

52I had to apologize to my teammate as well. Anyway, sorry. What do you think? Yeah, I think he's a decent player. He's pressure resistant. He's super calm and cool on the ball. He uses the ball well. He doesn't mind doing a bit of the dirty work. But I feel when we're at home to someone like Wolves and they are kind of behind the ball, having Polina and Benkirk in the middle, I don't think it does us any good at all. I think someone needs to be a bit more creative out of the two. I think someone needs to be a bit more courageous and brave on the ball and moving the ball forwards. And Benkirk ain't that.

40And I don't think if you play Tassar there as well, I think he'd probably be better or more attacking, but it's still not what we need. I think we do need this kind of creative, deep-lying player that can link our forwards and when we're like with our defence really, because at the moment we're finding it harder to move the ball forward. And when we are moving the ball and it's kind of been recycled at the back and it's going back and forth and then it goes into the centre midfield and then it'll go to the right back again and it's not really looking for that quick pass forward or having that, yeah, just being brave on the ball really.

30So for Benninger, I think he is a decent player. He's a decent squad player. But for games at home, I think that's where we should be looking to change it really. I want to talk about Javi Simmons in the 10 and how important that's going to be in our attacking threat going forward but before we do that can I just remind you that Fighting Cock is backed by NordVPN nordvpn.com forward slash the Fighting Cock our link gives you an exclusive offer plus 4 extra months free when you sign up to a 2 year plan there's no risk you can cancel Nord's 30 day money back guarantee the link is in the description below you can watch sporting events TV shows and films abroad that aren't available in your location.

11Your private data is protected. If you're using naughty sites, you're not going to get viruses. And if you want to use naughty sites, then the only way you can do that now without uploading your driving license and everyone knowing that you've, you know, because imagine if Pornhub gets hacked and you've uploaded. I'm sorry if you've already done this, boys. I don't want to create sort of anxiety in your life, but you've uploaded your personal data to a website that possibly could get hacked. and get do you remember madison the affair website was it called ashley madison ashley madison and i might have even signed up to it i can't remember i might have been pissed pissed up coked up i don't know i might have done i was worried when it came out i was like i better check my email address there was a list of email addresses you remember it's like thousands of them i was like did i do this when i was coked up one night i don't know luckily i wasn't on the list um but if you do use if I'd used NordVPN, I wouldn't there's no need for me to worry about that at all, so yes nordvpn.com forward slash thefightingcock, there's tons more stuff you can do with it as ever everyone is going to be using a VPN going forward and if you want to support the podcast and get on the VPN bandwagon then go to nordvpn.com forward slash fightcock, right, tell me about Javi Simmons in the 10 and why it's important, John, and And who, if it isn't Simmons playing on the left, should be playing there?

37So I'm going to link this back to what we were just talking about with Ben Skoll. I think what Rick sort of was spot on. We have a real problem, whoever plays in the 10, and I do think it should be Xavi Simmons, in getting the ball to them in dangerous areas. Because one of the things I will credit the stat and data guys in our fan base, the one thing they did say about Polina is he's not able to find those passes from deep. That's not his best attribute, right? and there's only a handful of players in the world who can do both to the level that he can do the defensive side of the game. So I kind of jokingly said, well, it doesn't matter, he just needs to win the ball, give it to Romero because Romero can pass it, right?

13But in reality, the other midfielder sitting in with Polina needs to offer that, needs to offer this deep line passing to be able to break the lines and to get us up the pitch and find it. Otherwise, you do become very one-dimensional. I do think that is an issue that we're struggling with because... Who is it that you think can produce that, John? well the problem is at the moment I don't feel really comfortable with any of those options right because I feel like Bentoncourt is um quite metronomic like he'll tick things over and he'll pass it side to side like quite safe and he's quite safe but he's not as good defensively as Palina so playing him alongside is like you're not really getting much extra defensive duty and you're not getting a creative passing so then you go well go the other extreme then maybe it's Bergvold because he's the like would appear to be the most like offensive creative type player but he's still really raw right what one game you get an 8 out of 10 next game you get like 5 out of 10 and you're like you don't really know where that is.

10Saar is like I'd say probably in the best form and probably the best person to play in that position but he's not a passer right like that's not really his best skill set either so I do think our central midfield is a bit of a problem maybe when Madison's back and you're playing at home in these type of games where you can be more dominant with possession. You can play Pelinha and Maddison and Xavi Simmonds as a 10. I think that could really work, personally, because you don't need as much defensive cover. And if you've got Pelinha just smashing people to bits, then you don't need two people doing that in my opinion.

43So maybe there's a solution there, but he's not going to be back for ages. So in the meantime, I think we just need to focus on... I've never been a huge fan of Bentancourt for that reason. he's just like an all-rounder but doesn't do anything like excellently or kind of to the extreme. I think I would start to try and rotate between basically Saar and Bergvall and I would play Xavi Simmonds in a 10, like four or five games in a row and just get him used to playing that position. The other issue that we got, the reason why that becomes more difficult is we don't have someone that's as good as Kudos is on the right, on the left.

19And so whoever you put there... Who's your best option, though? I feel like I'm going to say something absolutely insane here here we go come on we've tried tell it didn't work right he's not ready fuck him off go on we've tried Odebet it's not really worked there either he's shit get rid of him people said it doesn't really work when you play basically like a doggy you can play a doggy left back and then Spence doesn't seem to perform as well at right back so you've got to really play Poro I think we've got I think we've got to do it I said it before I think you've got to give Spence a go left wing the answer can't always be Jed Spence I think it's the answer I think it's the answer you can't always be Jed Spence I thought you were going with a doggy yeah I'd go oh no a doggy left back is fine because Spence wants to cut in so you can have a doggy go in overlapping him it's perfect you've still got some defensive security because Spence is still the best defensive like fullback we've got but he's good going forward he's really decent going forward he can beat a man he's decent and at the minute I've backed you since day one I've backed you since day one John I've found you you DM'd me and said we got on like a house on fire and I brought you on this podcast and I've always backed you but Jed Spencer's left wing is it could be genius I'm with him I'm actually with him come on mate it's honestly put it this way if you've got Tell, Odebeer or Johnson as your left wing options are you telling me Spence is that mad a decision I don't think it is.

52I honestly don't think it is. None of them are much better than him in that position currently. I still think Odebeir and Tell will be absolutely fine. But if we'd assign Savinho... Yeah, we haven't. That's what I mean. I agree. Am I saying there's no one in world football better than Jed Spence? Left wing. Obviously not. You can't just fucking put a right back at left wing. You can't. It doesn't work. Remember when Gareth Bale was a left fullback and then he was one of the best right wingers of all time? Yes, I remember that because that happens sometimes. Why can't this happen? Do you know what?

25I've learned my lesson, or maybe I haven't, with John pulling out these things like, Porrow isn't a right back. He's not a right back. Just coach him, train him to be one. Now he's statistically the best right back in the league. John's right again, isn't he? All I'm saying is it might be mental and it might not work. Obviously, just because he happens to be a fullback doesn't mean he's suddenly going to be this inverted winger. that like banging on about Farage and reform and saying like, this is the future. Now they're going to win. They're going to win. You all laughed at me. You're not laughing now.

59I have to say you're not laughing now. So I think, I think there's a, there's a world where we should try that. I'm not, again, I'm not saying I'm not advocating. This is the answer. We suddenly win. I just feel like the other options are so inconsistent there. And also basically Poro, Odogi and Spence, they all need to play. Like you can't, You can't really drop any of them. They all need to play. Spence has got to be in that team. And I feel if you did that, if you basically have a doggy and Spence on that side, you can be a bit more risky with a more attacking midfielder. So like Simmons and then another in the middle.

35I feel like there's something there and we could potentially look at that because as good as he did when he came on Tell and as promising as Odeber is, Johnson cannot play on the left. It just doesn't work there for me. I just don't see that. We actually don't have anyone. So we could maybe just try something outside the box. But that's my mental shout for this week. Fair enough. Take it out where you will. I had a weird interaction with would-be Tottenham takeover, the head of Tottenham's takeover, Brooklyn Eric. And I just messaged him on Twitter. If it is his account, I'm not sure if it is.

11And said, do you want to come on the Fighting Cup podcast? And he was like, yeah. I think he wants to buy Tottenham. Yeah, yeah, I'll come on. Just got to wait for the 2.7, whatever that is. We've since found out that it's, I think it's like the declaration of interest or it's the point where it's rejected or the point where the formalities are over and it's in some degree happening or not happening. And he said, yeah, yeah, I'll come on the pod. Just got to wait for this to be over. And I'm like, sound. That would be a wonderful podcast. I can't wait to hear from you, Brooklyn. So I want to get where you are, boys, with the idea of us being bought out by an American consortium that was willing to pay£3.3 billion for Enix shares in the club and with a further obligation to spend£1.2 billion on the football club and developing it, buying players, women's team, whatever it might be that we need to spend money on.

15uh enic have turned it down how do you in my head i'm like i get why enic have turned it down but i think the reason they've turned it down is because they think that the valuation of football club in five years would be much more than what it is right now so as a bit as a bunch of business people that it's in their best interest to turn that offer down but as fans is it in our best interest for them to turn that offered down given the fact that there was this 1.2 billion pound pledged on spending in the football club Rick

56I'm going to be honest did you want the money Rick I wanted the money of course I wanted the money so badly cash on the ip you kidding me fuck me I was like we were saying who would you buy first and I was like buy Saka and then run him into the ground in the reserves we've got fuck you money now we don't play by the rules anymore we're not buying sack we're buying his whole family and they're all training just play him left back Spence started left wing don't fucking play him don't let that scumbag anywhere near our first we just own him yeah of course I'd like the money but the bit that worried me is like a consortium of like 10 people headed by ex-DJ IT guru yeah that I I don't know if I would yeah it's it's an unconventional look at who might be running the football club.

45Yeah, for sure. If it was someone that was coming in from that had a bit more experience in running these things. Yeah, like Stan Cronk. Cronky. Doesn't he own American football team? And there's a couple of other people that own the Premier League clubs and they've got NFL or whatever. So there's that kind of that globalization and that experience of whatever sports team that they have that they could bring to Tottenham, whatever that might be, and how to run a sports club. So I would, you know, that would be my preference. But the 1.2 Billy on players is kind of like... Very attractive. Very, very attractive.

39Very attractive. you can't get that wrong spend 1.5 I'd actually like to see that Tottenham Oxford get 1.2 billion pounds spent on the squad and get it wrong even more than becoming a successful football club in a way I'd be like yeah that's what we do what you don't like it this is Tottenham shouldn't have sported us then every now and again I have a little check up on Ndombele see how he's doing we'll see you up to oh mate he's been sidelined with a groin injury for fucking six months With who? Six months niece. Oh, poor old niece. Why did you take one? Yeah, he's just living in France. He'd probably done his groin leaning over to get another baguette.

23Oh, yeah, fuck, get another one. I'll be all right. Get some more pastries in me. With this takeover thing, so look, for me, I think I said it before, like any option, there's going to be issues. issues people have moral issues or whatever societal issues with with takeovers various different reasons and i know some people oh yeah but some are worse than others and i think this would be one of the better ones right one of the better options just in terms of like less problematic let's say but for me like the ideal scenario is like we wanted levy to be removed and the sort of noise coming out the club is that they that enick or you know the lewis family felt that he was a bit too handbrake on and that they want to have a go.

05To me, that's the ideal scenario here. I'm actually comfortable with that family owning the club. I feel there's an affinity there. In control. They've always owned it. In control. In control, you know what I mean. And I feel like there's an opportunity here for them to actually go, right, let's let the handbrake off. Let's invest some of that money. And to your point, Flav, in five years, the club would be worth more than this bid. But only if we're being successful, only if we're moving forward and it can't just be another hotel it can't just be another Beyonce concert it's got to be on the pitch because that's really where the big value will come from and so I do feel like in this scenario yes it is super exciting someone's going here's a billion quid we're going to spend on players like of course that's going to get everyone exciting but part of me is like I'd actually just like to see how this plays out first and see if they are going to be true to their word and they are going to give it a go and they are going to try and do something because from a stability point of view, I think that would be really key.

01And we've seen, you know, Rick made the point around the Cronkies, right, at the Scum, but it could also be the Glazers, right? It could be that shit. And then, you know, they have to dig themselves out and they get, what's his name, Ratcliffe involved and they're still struggling. Like that can also set you back, right? For every Fenway group that you get with Liverpool, you're going to get a Glazer scenario. So like I said, I'd just like to see how it plays out. Now, Levy's not there, but we still have that stability of that family and that organisation. And let's see how true to their word they're going to be.

33Yeah, I would say though, the Glazers probably are that, in the same way that sort of Fenway are like the shining example of American investment, Glazers are like the worst. Those are the two, you know, poles in this argument. And there's also this discussion that, you know, if we... were to be brought out by an American consortium, that that would be the 13th American-owned club in the Premier League. 14, essentially, you can vote on rule changes in the Premier League. So things like my worry would be if there were 14 American owners, that it would be in the best interest of all those American owners to move Premier League games across the pond and that things like that might happen.

21That would be a worry for me. but all I saw was£1.2 billion and potentially finishing above Arsenal. I probably would throw one Premier League game over to the States if it meant finishing above Arsenal every year. Wouldn't we all? Wouldn't you, Rick? Yeah, I mean, yeah. If we finish above Arsenal every season. If you guarantee me that, then yeah, sure. Have one of our games. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm up for that. I don't know if I am, but we'll see. All right, boys. I think I think that'll do unless there's anything else you want to talk about actually one final thing Nick says do you miss looking for Baldy's head in the stadium on match day do you have a little look up see if you can see the floodlight shining off his beautiful little dome oh right probably shining off your head Rick yeah yeah yeah exactly unnecessary completely I I never went into the stadium and purposely looked for Levy and I don't even know if he's there is he surely I saw a report he's banned he's banned apparently I saw a news report on no he can't be banned he's got his own box you're not allowed to have he's got his own key he did have he's done that on my swipe card he did have no it ain't working anymore I reckon when when Levy was doing the stadium plans he's built like a load of like secret walkways and like little tunnels so he's there every day now I just don't know he's like behind a bookcase and he's like tucked in a little secret door behind a fridge and he can just he just goes around there all the time doing whatever he wants he's hiding out in that sky bar that's never opened Daniel Levy was sacked in brutal fashion by Tottenham after being barred from the training ground and having his belongings returned in a van fuck not allowed in anymore Daniel it's karma for Poch that is bit out of order is it I mean surely there should have been like maybe I think he should have let him come and watch the games if he wants to he owns a third of the football club well a third of Enoch I saw an interview with Genus and he said under AVB he came in for training one morning put his swipe card over the thing and it went red he's like that's fucking weird done it again and again he's like to the receptionist why is my swipe card not working she kind of sheepishly looked away he didn't give him eye contact he's like you're training with the reserves mate that's it you're done and that was it that's all he knew that no one told him anything that was it that's so funny i i had uh there there was another question we got here but i couldn't i can't remember where any replies um i'll not be able to find it but he was talking about uh what was he talking about I can't remember.

16It's lost my mind completely. That's terrible podcasting. I was looking for it and then I've lost my trailer. I lost everything. My friend, my dignity, my abilities, my reputation as a podcast is all down the pan now. I can't remember. What were your boy's thoughts about Simmons and his performance? It was rubbish. Okay. What did you think? That's been the fighting cock. I wouldn't say he's a rubbish player he's just rubbish yeah it was it wasn't great he looked to me like you know when a player takes it upon themselves that you know you're you're drawing or you're either losing I don't know if he'd gone gone off by the point when Wolves had scored but anyway you know when they try and take it on themselves and it's like right grabbing the the ball by the horns and taking it to Wolves and he was just doing a bit too much too many touches not releasing it getting the ball taken off his toes, trying so hard.

14Got a yellow card for his troubles as well. Got a yellow card against... Was it a bit of rail? He just looks a bit... You know when you're knackered and you're just running on empty and then those tackles that go in and you're just like, oh, fuck. He just feels like he's really trying and he's knackered. Is he warming to the game, John? Is he warming to the league? It's not easy, is it? No. nah it's going to take him a bit of time to adjust like i think that's the thing it's like especially those again it's that attacking players it's harder and like being creative i saw michael owen talking about it and he was going you know if i had to knock this house down it'd take me a few weeks but i could knock it down but if you asked me to build it from scratch i'd never fucking do it right i'm like that's exactly right when it comes to football smashing into tackles and just kicking the ball out and heading shit away and clearing stuff and putting things out for throw-ins most players can do that you give them enough time you can train to do that getting them to take a ball with four people trying to shut them down and find a pass there's a handful of people that can do that to a high level in in world football at any one time and it does take time to adjust if you're coming from a place where you get slightly more time it's like slightly slower you've got more space like you're gonna you're gonna do better in that environment in this environment there's no space there's no time everyone's massive everyone's rapid everyone's as good as you suddenly you've got to now go up another level so I think with him it's just a little bit of time and patience and again this is a symptom in modern football like we all know we've heard of him he's got a big reputation so suddenly we're like fucking be brilliant just be brilliant like go and be brilliant straight away and it might just take him a bit of time so we just got to give him a bit of patience as well right there boys up the spurs it will be fine until it isn't

11F-I-G-H-T-I-N-G F-I-G-H-T-I-N-G

Spurs draw vs Wolves sparks a cathartic chat: frustration with chance creation at home vs solid away form; “boiled parsnip” as the metaphor for a flat performance. Consensus that it’s early in Thomas Frank’s tenure, injuries matter (Madison/Kulu/Solanke), and a defensive-first build is sensible. Paulinha’s late equaliser praised for technique and leadership. Midfield makeup debated (Palhinha + passer vs metronomes), with calls to give Xavi Simons a run at 10 and find a dependable left-side option.
