In short

A Tottenham-focused preview and Q&A episode, framed as “the game we play them” (Arsenal), plus broader Spurs transfer speculation and several off-topic banter segments.

Guests/backgrounds

No guests appear in the transcript. The hosts are Bill Simmons (ad read), and the main pod voices: Rick, John, and “Flav” (plus occasional audience Qs).

Key claims

  • Arsenal are consistent and “professional” but not a “vintage” side; Spurs expect a gritty, attritional game decided by set pieces/second balls.
  • Spurs believe they can disrupt Arsenal and avoid being “pounded.”
  • Gabriel (Arsenal) is injured for “one to two months”; the hosts discuss centre-back rankings and cite Vuscovic as top-rated.
  • On Semenyo: Spurs should bid immediately in January for a reported £65m release clause, arguing deals shouldn’t be delayed.

Notable examples

  • Troy Parrott: five goals for Ireland (2-0 vs Portugal; hat-trick in Hungary) and debate whether Spurs “dropped a bollock.”
  • Thierry Henry comments at the new Spurs stadium are mocked/criticized.
  • Set-piece battle and “pressure” scenarios (e.g., Man City vs Newcastle) are used to justify Spurs’ chances.

4:29boys my son I was talking to my son earlier and we were talking about ginger people and he said I look a bit ginger right and I'm looking at this picture and I do look ginger I mean I'm not Kulisevsky ginger but I do does it matter in the modern era ginger still get laid don't they I love gingers what that you'd like to if we went to a ginger minge yes yeah yeah definitely yeah no did i ever tell you about the mad the the mad woman no when i worked at mother care when i was 17 oh yes yeah we used to go down the pub on a friday night have a couple of pints and then just mad lips each other off and in a pub in marble arch there'd be music playing just me and her just getting off of each other in the corner of the pub like mentally you don't see it anymore not enough the lads do you see two people getting off in a pub anymore back in our day any youngins listening to this back in our day going mad lipsy in a pub was the one maybe a little hand wonders all that yeah she was crazy she joined the army but knows what happened after that just getting off of everyone just that's why there's been no wars because she's just getting off of everyone so they're just like that's no point we can't fight anyone you are right though like i haven't heard the phrase get a room in public for like a decade i used to do that every other week you know like when you're at school and people be kissing get a room and like you go down the pub and there'd be a couple and i'll get a room no one said that no one has said that phrase for 10 years in the uk disgrace no they did say it then but i couldn't get a room i couldn't stand up because fucking mad mad erection in the middle yeah mad recce i was gonna say recce central there's nothing but So an unrequested erection is something that I don't have to worry about now as a middle-aged gentleman.

6:27A bit like a North London derby, really. I don't really ask for it, but it comes every now and then, maybe twice a year. And I could pull on it for hours and nothing would happen. Yeah. Very occasionally, it'll be a satisfactory ending, but most of the time it ends up in disappointment. Yeah, hating yourself. Let's start with Mawani. Mojani rub your tits all over my body Mojani Mojani rub your tits all over my body He's in training Oh He's on grass Rick Fucking hell He's not just training He's on grass And guess what He's got a specially fitted face mask Yes I saw that I thought he'd done his jaw I think I just assumed it was like lower jaw But maybe I'm like It's the top part of your jaw And that's why he's got the mask I think what you're thinking is it might be like Harry Kane mask, which is what we're all hoping.

7:22I don't think of that. I think it's just a complete new plastic skull that fits on top of his own skull that he's going to wear. It's going to come in like Kane, you know, like from wrestling. It's going to be amazing. Your boy, like MF Doom, is that just a full mask? Oh, my God. Can you imagine if he comes in with an MF Doom mask? Just fucking bowls and everyone's like, who the fuck's that? It's like Smurana. Yeah, it's fine. As long as it's Tottenham colours, he's fine. So he's just got it branded. That'd be fun. Yeah, the FA have signed it off. Brilliant. It's really jagged. Are you sure? Going up for heavy.

7:56Looks like it's made from steel. Is that steel? Yes. Right. There's something about that boy. I don't know what it is. I think we've all been saying. I haven't seen many people coat him off. I don't know if you have, John. But me and Rick have been talking about it for a while. There's something about that boy. Yeah. I mean, he makes a French squad every single time. If he's playing, if he's not. Deschamps loves him. So, I mean, I did a podcast, the Lab podcast with Rob Daly, and it was fantastic. Rob is a genuinely lovely human being who, for all of us who enjoyed Bilbao and other moments in the last four or five years, the greatest moments that you see, if you look back through Spurs player or any kind of footage that was released by the club, you'll hear the dulcet tones of Rob Daly.

8:45and what was I talking about? Why did I start that? Mawani. Why did I start that sentence? Something about Mawani. Did Rob say something nice about Mawani? Do you think he's a good player? I don't know. Was it, I remember during the, I've listened to Halfway Through the Pod, you mentioned that he does commentary on a lot of kind of international football and you drop the name Mawani in there. Yeah. It was an old game. Yes, yes. That's why you're here, boy. And other stuff as well. And other stuff as well. Yeah, so he was putting out a – he was covering – Rob doesn't just cover Spurs and commentate on Tottenham, which is a bit sad.

9:26He actually has jobs elsewhere, which he needs to – in order to feed his kids and pay for his mortgage. However, he wrote out a team sheet. So the thing that I learned is that I thought some people would be privy to team news before the fact, especially people like Rob, who have to talk about it in a way that satisfies the very people he's trying to serve. So if, for example, Mouane was to make a return tomorrow, on Sunday rather, against Arsenal, that he might get the heads up. Right. So he can prepare, right, in his notes. Yeah, yeah. He finds out who's on the team sheet when everyone else does.

10:04So if there's like a surprise, like you've got a youth player starting, like D-Mani starting on Boxing Day against Everton in 2004. Yeah. he's like shit I've got to work out how to how to do that anyway he was covering France and Mouane was on the right hand side and the team was fucking disgusting Mbappe and you're like Dembele's there and and Elisa now and Mouane still makes a squad so there's fucking something there boys I'm convinced of it I'm absolutely convinced of it um okay so it is a North London derby although as i've said before it's not a north london derby there's no such fucking thing as a north london derby there is the game we play them not that's all it should be called yeah north london derby is marking from sky that's all it is and you know they say oh well you you're not from north london you're from middlesex you know what they're reducing it to there is is borderlines dictated by local government we haven't moved you cunts yeah we haven't moved we're in the same fucking space you tried to buy film and then you made your way up there and what kind of super club would tottenham be if there was no fucking arsenal all them weird look actually don't want i think they would suddenly not become weird little gremlins that they are at the moment yeah we would have them weird little gremlins we would have a fucking stadium on the side 100 000 we'd fill it out but they all went to that dirty little scummy football club um how are you feeling about it John you know we've won two games in in uh since since the stadium opened and you know things aren't on the pitch you wouldn't say they're on a parity at the moment how do you feel yeah I mean look I even when we had amazing teams and they weren't particularly great I never felt particularly great about this game because I just kind of feel like there's often whoever is performing well sometimes gets served up a little bit so in this way actually I'm feeling I mean I'm always optimistic even with this game but I usually have some trepidation this time around I do kind of feel like whilst they're very um they're very consistent and they know how to get the job done they're very professional this is very very far from like a vintage like scum team or a vintage any team right that I think like the way they're going about being pretty successful in the league is a pretty um agricultural way of playing and to be fair we're not currently too dissimilar to that and so there is a world where basically on the day it's like we could end up getting a result just by this battle of set pieces right and that isn't a a form of domination like previous like tactical masterclasses in the past so it does make me feel like in any game we can get a result and we have shown like even under frank's short reign when we've needed to get results we are capable of doing that so i don't know i feel like everything goes out the window doesn't it in this game form kind of goes out the window tactics all the rest of it so it just i think we'll learn a lot about where we're at uh in this game but i don't they just i don't have the same fear with them lot as I have had in the past I just think they're a bit more they're horrible they're a bit more kind of rough and ready but I feel like there's an opportunity for us to get something I always feel optimistic about games so you know I feel like we can get something in every game but I don't know I'm mixed emotions I guess I just don't really know how to like predict this game because I think we're also quite a hard team to predict what do you think Rick well it's the international break and normally i'm fucking clucking for a bit of tottenham action and uh this time i am not i am it's like fucking hell it's why does it have to be that game can we just not be eased into something a bit more easier instead of the gooners away it's like oh man like there was a period uh it may have been a very short period but um where we'd we'd be playing them and i look at our team i'd be like fucking come on then you fucking want some like be proper we're gonna win this we'll get something out of this game i don't fear you at all now like what john was saying i don't fear them in the fact that they're playing scintillating football that they're gonna play us off the park but it feels like it will be a game of attrition where it will be throw-ins set pieces like someone's going to get a nick on a corner and and put it in what whatever it might be I just hope that you know when we there was the kind of uh the quote that Frank's teams are hard to beat that no matter what happens we are hard to beat and I just the one wish I have is that on Sunday we are hard to beat I can I can I can take a one nil loss one or draw whatever it might be but just don't get pounded I think look if we if we have to even consider a world like just for a second as uncomfortable it is if we have to consider a world where we get pounded something's gone drastically wrong like if you could definitely I went into the games with certainly last season the second North London W away from home against Arsenal won the post I was genuinely fearful that something bad was going to happen and I think we got beat pretty well but I was all in my mouth.

15:43I can't remember what it was. I think it was bad. All I can remember is Archie Gray and Spence being penned in constantly. That's all I can think about. It felt like we were doing that for 80 minutes. But if you look at this without the emotion, the two teams playing against each other without all of the history and the subtext of it being the North London derby, you've got a team who is excellent or has been thus far in the league excellent away yeah you've got a thomas frank side who you may have many criticisms of his style of play but setting up according to the opposition's abilities and then maximizing that opportunity away from home he's excelled at at tottenham he also excelled that with with brentford you know reason why he is tottenham manager is because of his ability to to perform above expectation Otherwise, Brentford would have been relegated and he wouldn't be Tottenham manager.

16:40And players like Mbwemo and Visser and Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney and others in his side just wouldn't have excelled in the way that they did because the expectation for them would have been something else, something much more medium. And so if things happen in football, anything can happen. You have mental results. And after 90 minutes it goes by on Sunday, we may have to have a different discussion about what Frank is and what he isn't. But what we can say on paper is that this will be competitive and we will be in this game. And that's how I'm approaching it, I think. I'm not scared. I'm not fearful.

17:28I'm fucking a bit aggy about it really I'm like I think they think that they're going to walk us over this is going to be easy I think that's what they think I spent some time with one of them this week a couple of hours in their company and it's almost difficult when they're a decent one when they're their usual ilk you know just a bit greasy and weird just a bit odd odd human beings right when they're like that like it's like it's just something it's fine i understand what they are i grew up around them i know what they're like when you get a decent one you're like oh you know what's going on here you caught me off guard you bastard stop saying nice and decent things about my football club anyway he but but despite him being very measured he was you could tell there was an undercurrent of i'm very comfortable with this so i'll tell you what we need to make it fucking uncomfortable for them and that is paulina smashing through a couple not fouling them hurting them but winning the ball at the same time that's what i can see i can see challenges from romero i can see challenges for paulina i see ben tencourt hopefully doesn't lose his head in the way he did for uruguay in the week because that was a fucking straight red if ever i've seen one but that energy that bite if we can keep it in check to enough where we disrupt their play.

18:55Not that they're free-flowing attacking footballing side anyway. They can play that way. But without Gabriel as well, he's injured. He's dominant in the defense and in set pieces as well for both sides in attack as well. I think that's a massive loss for him. Massive loss. So much so, actually. I'm just looking as I'm speaking here, boys. there's two points I want to make about this so Gabriel is rated as the best centre-back of two in Europe's top five leagues according to who scored the best centre-back in all five top divisions is he 100 % out? yeah he's out for at least between one and two months is what they said what do you reckon Liz that sounded like the yes from Napoleon Dynamite.

19:48Yes. Yeah, apparently years out, it said one to two months, which is a little bit nebulous, isn't it? Can I tell you the other centre-back? Yeah, go on then. Who do you think it might be in the top five divisions? If it's Gabriel on one side, who do you think might be on the left-hand side? Imagine buying your kid a toy only to find the batteries aren't included or buying furniture, but missing the tools to build it. Frustrating, right? Now imagine the exact same feeling, but you're paying way more. That is what buying business software usually feels like. Fragmented, disconnected, and incredibly expensive.

20:26Odoo completely changes that. Odoo is a complete, fully integrated business suite where all your apps actually talk to each other. We're talking automated lead routing for your sales team, seamless AI integration, and intuitive point-and-click website builder. It's everything your business needs to scale, saving you time, headaches, and money. Stop piecing your software together. Go to odoo.com. That's O-D-O-O dot com to learn more. Are all batteries the same? That's like asking if all soccer players are the same. Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that?

21:09No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with power-boost ingredients inside? No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different. And Messi only trusts Duracell. Recently, our company's softball team lost the big game by one run. Then Dale tried to console us with the quote, winning isn't everything. Dale's a loser. I play to win, like early payoff from Bet365. If my team goes up big, I get paid out instantly, even if they blow the lead later. Sound familiar, Dale? Bet 365. Winning is everything. Gambling problem? Call 1-800-GAMBLER. 21 plus only.

21:52Must be physically located in Illinois. TNCs apply. In-app only. Ooh. Top five divisions. Top five divisions. Premier League. Anywhere. If you can't give me a guess, I'm just going to tell you what it is. Yeah, go on. it's a Tottenham player who might be oh Romero no Van Der Wijn no no is it is it is it Jed Hotep Spence no it ain't Porre no what the fuck alright this is this is the the second not only is he the second not only is he the second best defender across the back four he's actually rated better than Gabriel who's the who's the So I said he was the best. I made a mistake. Big Kevin Danso?

22:41No. Palina? No. What the fuck? A doogie? The highest rated centre-back in European football is Vuscovic. Ah, you 7.10. You trick question. You little snake. Let's celebrate the fact that one of our players who doesn't even play for us, he's like six years old. He's the best centre-back in Europe. Vuscovic has an average rating of 7.38. Gabriel has 7.30 you know there's I don't know if you saw this clip on TikTok of these lads I sent it in actually to the WhatsApp group and the lads going you know they're talking about Vuskavich I think they may be from I'm going to say Serbia yeah right I think they may be Serbian or certainly they're from the Eastern Old Eastern block and they they were saying that Vuskavich has ceiling as high as someone like Leni Oro who's captor France.

23:39I hope he's better than Leni Oro, but that's impressive, isn't it? Yeah. Do you know other names in this top, this first 11, top 5? European leagues. Laminio Mou, Goula of Real Madrid, the Turkish lad, Nico Paz, who we wanted to buy, Mbappe and Kane. Set it back as Vuscovic. how good is this kid gonna be that just fucking how good is this kid gonna be i mean he's gonna be amazing isn't he um i just like just to make a quick step in it he is definitely croatian not serbian just fyi did you google it i had to i when you said it i was like i thought he was croatian then i didn't want to do like a no i knew i knew he was crazy it was a test just to check if you know what what ricky just went yeah that's right yeah no no i was saying no it was not it was a serbian i was saying it's right that they were uh talking about him all right well why didn't you nice correct me while you leave speaking of like that you owe me an apology two apologies now why why why what's the second one just said no of course not it's croatian i would go no yeah of course croatian i don't know what my brain was doing so you just let me sit in this failure mate that's what happened at the beginning of the pod were you trying to you know the rob daly scrambling around and i was like oh yeah no you're right there you go i've always got you i know have you okay no not you know no you have you have you're a good friend you're a good friend i very much love you um yeah so uh yeah i mean who i don't know how you preview an Arsenal game in a way that we will be doing on Patreon.

25:20Patreon.com forward slash The Fighting Cop for a full preview tomorrow. Yeah, but I don't know how you kind of really sort of sit down and talk about this in a way that isn't other than just fucking go and do them first. Find a way, make it competitive, make them uncomfortable. You get a point and that is a proper, that's damaging to their title challenges. Like if Man City go away to Newcastle, which is what, do we actually, this is a question for you. do you want Newcastle to Man City versus Newcastle would you rather Man City won and took it down to one point which may G up Arsenal or Man City lose and they relax and they're less intense than they would be or would the loss of Man City mean that they're G'd up to get that extra points or what would be better better if Man City won right yeah Man City win get as close to them as early as possible.

26:17Pressure. Then the pressure builds. Exactly. Then come 40 minutes, nil-nil. Come on. What about all the billion pound we spent? What about six years of believing in Arteta? You haven't scored a goal in 40 minutes. That's what we want, that energy. I think there's a lot of potential momentum shifting on this game that involves a lot of other things. So, for example, if we get a result here, like a frank masterclass right suddenly people won't won't give a shit about the style of play anymore they'll suddenly be like oh okay there's a plan here maybe this is worth getting behind and i think it could buy him more time and more grace from the fan base if we start like turning up in those sorts of games so that's one momentum factor two i also think that like arsenal if you look at the last couple of seasons they've been fucking smashing everyone to bits until it actually mattered until the pressure actually came on top, until other teams started putting a run together or when it actually meant that they couldn't do anything.

27:17If City win, that pressure is going to be there. If we beat them, I think you'll see a couple of bad results from them. They are the kings of can't handle the fucking pressure. They're great when things are good. They'll do really well. So this is a really good opportunity for us to fucking trip them over. You know when there's a big bully on the playground? and like if you try and have a scrap with him like face to face you just smash your head in but if you just do that little thing where you just like clip someone's ankles as they're running past you they just go tumbling that's what we could be doing we could just be laying down a little ankle tap on those fucking horrible slags and just watching them tumble and scrape their face on the asphalt i just what you just said i had horrible i was just transported back to when i was in year eight at hybrid growth school and there was a lad called lorenzo when i say lorenzo you can imagine somebody's fucking hard as nails right just sounds hard yeah lorenzo he was the same age as me but twice as tall and already fully developed and we were playing on so people anyone who knows hybrid the hybrid fields there used to be hard uh five-a-side pitches there and I've just gone to slide tackle to get the ball forgetting the fact that in my school you have to be careful who you were tackling it wasn't a normal game of football it's like some kids you could tackle some kids you weren't allowed to tackle yeah unless you wanted your head fucking bad and I slide tackled him took him out completely and expecting him to go this might be the worst moment of my life even like at 13 years old you know action and consequence most people don't at that age I knew at that stage I'd done something really bad uh luckily he turned around and saw this tiny little boy and decided not to kick my fucking head in.

29:04But his head did hit the asphalt, as you said, John Boy. You know, we were talking about getting erections on unwanted erections. I didn't have one then. Just talking about Lorenzo. What kind of weird people are smashing their faces on the asphalt. What kind of weird kick would that be? He's wanking in one hand and rubbing his hand on asphalt. you know like you could you sometimes can't get an erection you know when you was a kid you get an erection on the bus the old buses used to vibrate mad yeah why did they vibrate so badly when when they stood still these buses and you put your head against the window yeah you used to get a mad rocker what i can't do at my age at 44 is is uh is take advantage of that situation by gaining an erection and uh that's where med express comes in so do you know that one in five men in the UK experience changes in sexual performance as they get older.

30:02You're not alone if you did, and MediXpress can help. MediXpress has been one of the country's leading online pharmacies since 2013, trusted by over one and a half million customers. That's one and a half million men with erection problems. So you're not on your own, John. With a short online consultation. Have you ever had an erection problem, John? No. Let's be vulnerable in front of 15 ,000 to 20 ,000 people. I think I have told this story once before. Not generally, no, but I was waiting up for this girl to come over from like a late night out. She said she'd be around at like one. One comes and goes.

30:38Now it's like two in the morning, then three in the morning. Finally, she gets there at four. So I'm absolutely exhausted. I'm in the house. She gets there. I love this story. And as she's like sort of like straddling me on the chair, I just see this little mouse go running by the lounge. And I'm like, fuck, there's like a mouse in the house. So then we're like getting to it, right? And we're like, there's a mouse in the house. There's a mouse in the house. And then we're like getting down to it. So I'm like starting taking clothes off. And then like, just as I'm like, you know, about to, you know, I'm on top and I'm about to like get down to business.

31:10This thought enters my mind that what happens if while I'm on top, this mouse goes up my bum. That would be like climbing Mount Everest for the mouse. Yeah. I'll get Richard geared in my own lounge. so then i was like the thought of it just wouldn't leave my and then i thought what about if it goes on her or goes like goes on me and then her and she thinks that i've got mouses coming out of me like the whole situation just completely put me off and then i just couldn't get it out my head and i just couldn't i couldn't carry on so i sort of started and couldn't finish and she was just like you're right and i'm like i had to say which was partially true i'm tired but i couldn't say i was worried a mouse is gonna cut my bum so i can't get it up uh so there are many reasons why you might experience erection issues and medexpress understands you have a short online consultation with a uk-based clinical team and suggest the right treatment for you the best part is obviously it's online so you don't have to go talk to your gp it's no awkward situations no one needs to know that you're serving yourself up and it's hard obviously to uh to feel like yourself in those intimate situations where you just want to get a boner and make love to your beautiful partner.

If you're listening and you're on Twitter, then the link will be not only in the description of this podcast, but also as the link tweets on Twitter. Let's do some questions because this is supposed to be a Q &A podcast. And we've asked, do you know how fucking shit Twitter is, actually? I sent a tweet out and it just didn't send. And then when I logged back in, it decided to send. And it's like, we've already started the pod. I've seen that musk lad taken over. It's all gone tits up. It really has. I know that's not the worst thing he's done in the last couple of years.

33:06It's the one that's frustrated me the most. So, yeah, down with Trump. not Trump the other one they're the same aren't they B &E says which member of the fighting cult do you reckon lost their virginity latest hard mode you can't choose the little Danish one

33:27well we know that Mark grew up on an island in the Nord region with there was like 36 men and one woman which oh god I want to make the joke but I probably shouldn't it wasn't Mark's mum no it's funny with Mark because even though I know he's got two kids I still think he's a virgin actually yeah he does give us that vibe looking at him straight away whenever I look at his face it's like the noise that he might make making sex close to you know explosion yeah I think it's a it's like the mouse in John's house yeah Yeah. But I'd still rather the mouse enter me than Mark. Are we happy to disclose right now who lost their virginity at what age?

34:22Yeah. I don't mind showing mine. I was 18. 16. Oh! 17. Rick Dogg, little sugar. Oh, fucking hell! Yeah, Ricky's little brown buttocks just up and down like that. Bam, bam, bam, bam. For 3.7 seconds. Was it the first time? Was it quick for you, boys? yeah oh god yeah yes i did it twice it was so quick well that was the good thing wasn't it you like the the reload time was really short it's like there's you know you just pressed your finger on the trigger and it goes off but you could reload that fucker like relentlessly whereas now it's like i'm squeezing all day and then eventually something comes out and that's it for a month so it was good in some ways having that yeah it was got another question here and it's which of the current Spurs squad would be best to share a joint with would be best to be on pills with would be best to take shrooms with and someone's answered the question it's Alfie Whiteman I did actually reach out to Alfie to see if I could interview him for the lab now that he's gone proper artsy and that sort of stuff but hasn't responded yet But I think that is the answer, right?

35:35He's sort of in touch with himself. Yeah. Also, music guy, isn't he? So, like, in those scenarios, if you, you know, you had the right accompaniment musically, you're going to have a better time. So, makes sense. So, what was the question? Who's the best player? In the Spurs squad, Pills, Mushrooms or a Spliff?

35:58Oh, that is an interesting... I mean, like, you could go route one on this and be like van der Vend for a spliff, like the Dutch connection. Yeah. And then Mushies, you need someone quite chill, wouldn't you? You wouldn't want someone that's like all over the shopping. You wouldn't want Pirate. They're grinning all the time. No. No. Or Bissouma. No, I was going to say Bissouma as well. No, yeah. Lads, did you see Troy Parrott? We didn't talk about this, but he bagged five goals for Ireland. They beat Portugal 2-0, and then he went away to Hungary, and he's got a hat-trick in Hungary. I don't know if you saw the emotions that he had after the game.

36:49He was breaking down in tears. It was really lovely to see. This is a player who Spurs fans really wanted to see more of and demanded from Jose Mourinho that we see him because I think Kane got his ankle injury and we wanted Troy Parrott to start up top and Sonny next to him. I think Mourinho's answer was to play Sonny through the middle and everyone was like, no, no, no, no. Yeah. Not Sonny through the middle. He's not. He plays on the left, doesn't he? Anyway, and we're demanding Troy Parrott and he played Troy Parrott, didn't he? And then he went, see? He's not ready. It's such a Mourinho thing to do.

37:29Like, expose the lad. He's not ready. I told you we ain't ready. Let's ruin a kid. But he did score those goals. And now the narrative around it is that we've dropped a bollock by letting him go. How do you feel about Troy Parrott? Should we make every effort to bring him back based on those two performances for Ireland? Or is it just a flash in the pan moment and we were probably right in the first instance? what I will say that interview that you mentioned I probably watched it 10 times it was I was just like through them scoring and that interview I just kept watching it over and over again because it's kind of like sometimes you get lost in what football is nowadays like modern football and ticket prices atmosphere and stuff like that but then when the purity of when something like that happens even though it was you know Ireland um I was just like this is fucking amazing look look what it means to everyone it was absolutely quality and then again with Scotland as well fantastic stuff I love football amazing with Parrot I would probably I don't think I don't think we dropped a bollock personally I think you make a decision on how that player is and how they're um how they've kind of reacted in getting first team opportunities and how they're conducting themselves and you make a decision at that time you know you could wait five years after and they're playing for someone else and smashing goals in but it's like when you've got a young player like that and maybe they're not um excelling as quickly as you'd hoped they need a new environment whatever it might be but do you really want to hold on to a player for x amount of years because they may or may not have potential you you act with whatever's happening there so i think we were probably right to um i think we're probably right rick i think we absolutely were correct.

39:38Right, okay.

39:43Don't get me wrong, I've loved the story. Like you say, I watched it a couple of times. Didn't watch it a hundred times, but I watched it a couple of times. We've got a mutual friend in Zeus who is an Irish lad. And, you know, absolutely adores him. I get it, but it's like just reshifting the, or not accepting the reality of the situation that probably Troy Parrott is, if I had to guess, and that it's hard because he's scoring goals for fun in the area of a jersey. Yeah. A area of a jersey. That is probably, if you're being really kind, a lower level Premier League striker, but if you're being realistic, a championship striker.

40:19So the idea of him, of us dropping a bollocks because we didn't sign him is fucking nonsense, in my opinion. Yeah. Didn't make it through. Sorry. Why can't we just be happy that we produced a player who's playing in like one of the top leagues? They don't have to be at Spurs or we hate their guts, right? with Troy Parrott it's like I'm just glad that he's associated with our club he came through our academy played really well for us and is doing well for his country and he's playing and like you said if he ends up playing championship football or lower half premier league football and everyone knows who he is that's a good thing for us as a club to be associated with I don't think we get drawn into this every time a player leaves and does okay or should we have kept them well like unless they go on and are better than what we currently have then it's not even a conversation for me so yeah i really i really like the story i really like the story and you know it's nice to see i always you know enjoy patriotism of all kinds so that was nice to see and good luck to him but he's not good enough to play for us otherwise he'd still be playing for us probably um ornstein put out this uh article or headline basically a bournemouth may be powerless to prevent simenio at sale in january contract includes 65 million pound release clause available It was all clubs, but they must trigger it by a set date.

41:37Applies again in the summer at a lower price. When these stories come out, I don't know if I'm being, and John, you're going to love this because this is right up your street. But why, when they say if, surely everyone's going to be interested in Semenyo. £65 million for a player that's played like he has for the last 18 months in the toughest league in world football. If he's available for£60 million plus£5 million add-ons, why what is it that stops clubs from just saying right now we know he's available in January here is the readies this is the structure of what we want to do and just get it done and maybe those conversations are happening that we're not privy to and all the clubs that would or could buy Semenyo are doing that currently but it almost feels like that's not what happens and these deadlines shift and disappear.

42:35And it doesn't happen. I know you can probably think that if you can get the player, like we fought with Eze, and we let the period go past where you bought him for his release clause, which was 65 million plus another five or whatever it was for him, that you might gain an advantage because you know that he's agreed to sign for your football club. And so you can then go back to Palace and go, we want him for 50 million. and I understand saving money in that way. But in this instance, like Spurs, for example, we need Semenyo. Like, we need anybody that improves our first XI. There's an opportunity there to do it.

43:10Arsenal spent a lot of money. All clubs around us have spent a lot of money. We know we've got this£100 million cash injection, which is cash that can be used, that can be amortised. It isn't just£100 million and there's your player and that's all the money gone. This£100 million could go a long way. Like, surely if there's the opportunity in January to get him, you go out and get him. Just get him. John? Yeah, 100%. Sorry, you said John right at the beginning, and I was like, is this still for me? I don't know. Sorry, I got excited, John. It's for you. Okay, good. I think, first of all, that these conversations are already happening and were happening before that statement was even made because they're happening all the time, just not like through official channels and i think basically you know it's like anything that they want to make sure the buying club like all this stuff comes out because people want it to come out right like nothing gets leaked right that is always a decision made by certain people in certain organizations what information quote-unquote gets leaked they give it to people to quote-unquote leak it because they want to manipulate that information to whatever end in this scenario i imagine someone at Bournemouth were like we're going to lose this guy because people are going to bid for him and we're going to have to accept these bids why don't we try and control the narrative somewhat and control the best deal for us and if you think in this instance where it's like what is it a release fee right so the fee will be the same no matter which club bids so then it's just terms right who's going to pay us the most amount of money up front versus paying it over six years and you know we're throwing a packet of crisps so the quicker they can start getting this stuff out publicly the quicker they can start going we're not going to accept these type of deals we only want this type of cash up front and they can then again try and control the player and sort of make them steer them in a direction of a club they'd rather sell to and make that process clearer and then they've got more time to bring in a replacement right all of it actually just kind of makes logical sense when you just break it down so we should from a Spurs perspective go in really hard go in we want the player and we will pay what we need to pay to get this deal done if the rebrand of Enoch aka the Lewis family decide that they want to really change the direction and they want to do something this is it like this is a statement sign and you can make immediately everyone in the Premier League would take him whether he was a squad player or a starting player he would start for us and he's a player available at a good price point if they don't get it done and i don't even try then we are back into same old same old oh we tried sorry territory and i hope i really hope because i want it to kind of work with them that they just go like balls out and try and get this deal done this is a great great opportunity for them to do that right yeah i mean it would be um we have to be it'd be silly for us not to feel like something has already been agreed like we've already sounded boom without that we are going to make this bid that we know the uh the value and it's just as soon as it gets to the 1st of january that that bid is going in and surely there are people working behind the scenes to be like if you do come to tottenham this is what we'll pay you this will be your gold bonus this will you know all those things and i know obviously the transfer window isn't open and you can't do any any business but there are middlemen that are working and that they are negotiating different things at the moment so you would hope yeah you would hope that gobbling up transfer news yeah exactly that they are just doing the the wheels are in motion and they are just lining up their ducks ready for when we are able to put a bid in now that doesn't mean to say that united are doing the same with liverpool the gooners or whoever but when the time comes we need to have an attractive offer ready not middle of january not end of january not fucking whenever first of january it needs to be we need to go big and offer him big money big return on assists goals whatever it might be uh guarantee a first team football frank needs to have his little presentation done to see this is where you're going to fit in and this is what i see for you and this is the strategy long term and this is how i'm going to develop you it needs to all be done and dusted and already starting to happen.

47:47I'm imagining Parachi naked. Yeah. Just in his luxury flat somewhere, central London. Yeah. Overlooking the Thames. Nice. It's dark in his flat, but he's illuminated by his TV. And on it is just reel after reel after reel of players that Spurs could potentially sign. He's butt naked. Yeah. And Semenyo's highlight reel comes up. He just flicks his penis. Just flicks the end of it. Another goal's in, flicks the end of it again. But a sixth goal in this Premier League season, he has a rock-hard penis sponsored by Med Express. The camera pans out and he just looks over to his little mouse cage and says, not tonight, fella.

48:46Semenyo. Semenyo's the bye-bye. Okay, good. Thierry Henry, during his visit to the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, says, weird, listen to this fucking cunt. Bearing in mind, he cheated. For France, he used his hand in order to create a goal that dumped Ireland out of their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup. He says, weird, I never came to the new stadium. I used to come to the old one and win a lot, but it's nice. Because I think he was there for the boxing. So Thierry Henry, despite what he just said, and he should be pulled up on this by HMRC, but he said he used to come to the Arsenal team and win a lot.

49:30He only won once in eight games at Spurs, and he scored just one goal. So shut your fucking little dirty mouth, okay? Is that right? Yeah, apparently to Reddit and so on. Were you going to fact check me? No, I like it. We should HMRC it. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, I like it. I like it. I like it. Anyway, we've got another question here from Boy With Hat. You don't know what mum looks like, you fucking dick. So as Benjamin Franklin says in his letter of advice to a friend on choosing a mistress...

51:36Do I carry on reading this? Yes. Yes, okay. Quotes, and as in dark all cats are grey, the pleasure of corporal punishment with an old woman is at least equal and frequently superior. What she may have lost in looks, she more than makes up with experience and enthusiasm. So anyway, can you let your mum know? I'll be around at six. Cheers. Totally worth it for me. there's a lot going on there so he's saying that old women should be grateful or I think he's saying old women are the best right okay and as in dark all cats are grey the pleasure of corporal enjoyment with an old woman is at least equal and frequently superior yeah so obviously you know when it's dark cats colour they all look the same what he's saying is when it's dark women you know you're getting this you're not really you're not seeing the physical i understand what you're saying john i'm just taking about that you put this much effort to fucking dig my mum out well he didn't write it fucking benjamin franklin wrote it so yeah all he's done is copy and pasted it i could have done that he's the fucking dickhead then right yeah exactly yeah can you fucking look up like poetry online mate oh look at you yeah give me something witty i can say about flav's mum you don't need to say anything witty just just add your mum to the end of something normal and it's funny enough it's pretty good though i quite i rate it's good spurs ttkm says why are we assuming that frank can't develop johnson into a more complete forward or is it just spurs fans don't have the patience um we did say last week if there were two players we're going to sell it would be johnson richard i think the main reason we're doubting frank's ability to turn johnson into good players because i'm actually doubting johnson's ability to be a good player um don't think it's a frank issue i think it's a johnson issue and again look he's iconic.

53:36I will love you, Brendan, forever if you're listening to this. But I just think he's a limited footballer and I don't see how you can do much more than we're currently getting out of him. Not really much more to say. I don't want to slag him off. He's been great. He scored a banger for Wales, didn't he? Yeah, he did. I mean, against North Macedonia. I don't know why I'm doing that. He did score a banger. It was great. It was good. I remember ages ago, John, that you mentioned um something that stuck with me that i think you were saying about when frank was at brentford and watkins was kind of used as a striker he moved him more moved him in more centrally and there was another striker as well that that happened with and maybe he could do that with johnson because of his attributes and his finishing is is brilliant so why don't we see some of that and I was like you know what I think you might be right and we haven't seen that maybe there might be some we're still early on into Frank's era so I don't know I mean I say I don't know but come Sunday by full time I'll be like fucking get out of my club get out of my club I did I did that you're not fit to wear their shirt you're fucking shits you're shits Lack of accountability of fans having.

54:59Get out of my club! Get out of my club, you don't get it. Hurricane will never make you retire. I definitely did say that, Rick, and I still in some instances think it's worth trying, right? Because if you can make that work, then we have saved ourselves like writing off what he's cost us and trying to fight. So I do think it's worth trying. I guess where I've like changed my mind now is like the more I think about what his weaknesses are, he's like receiving the ball with an opponent behind him is abysmal. And that is the one area, centre forward of any kind, you need to be good at. Like even like diminutive little strikers, the best ones were actually really good with their back to goal, like Michael Owen, Jermaine Defeau, were good with their back to goal, even though they were short.

55:43But Johnson is like, can't do that against a fullback, let alone a centre back doing it. So that's what makes me think he wouldn't be great. Right. That being said, let's say we're playing against the Scum, right, this weekend. and we're, let's be honest, not going to have a load of ball on the edge of their area where you need to pop it up to a centre forward and ask him to hold it. Granted, you do want your centre forward to be able to be like maybe an out ball that you can play and hold to. But maybe there is a chance that just in a breakaway, having him as the forward could give you some options and it's worth experimenting in certain games.

56:18Maybe Arsenal's a bad example because they want to defend a bit more. But say like City, for example, who maybe want to squeeze up the pitch, you could just clip a ball over the top to Johnson, that might be something. But I'm less and less convinced as time's gone on that he can actually even really do that role, if I'm honest. Sadly. Yeah, fair enough. I've just read something that's disturbed me somewhat. NicePossession2786 says, not a question, but can you shout out my old man, Mark Davey? The recent return from his holiday in Turkey with a Fighting Cock logo, now proudly tattooed on his leg.

56:51Legend. Cheers, and up the spurs. What? I need to see this. There's no photo been sent in. No. Maybe it isn't true. Maybe they're just saying it. I don't know. I can't imagine. I did actually meet someone. We did, do you remember we did a live show with Mickey Hazard and Graham Roberts? I wasn't at that one. It was a good one, Rick. You should have been there. And there was a lad, a legend, really lovely geezer, who just said that he loved the podcast so much and it gives him sort of respite in dark days and all that sort of stuff. And he had the fighting cockerel tattooed on his arm. What a fucking geezer.

57:35That's amazing. I've got to see it. Mark Davey, if you're real, then at me at Flav underscore Bateman. If you have a tattoo of our fighting cock logo on your leg and don't know how to contact me, that is mental. but do please reach out in some way. I've got to see this tattoo. That is fucking mad. If anyone else has got a fighting cock tattoo as well, send it in. And if you haven't got one, go and get one just to feature, right? Do you remember, Ricky, that this would have been around 2012. I know it was 2012 because I was in Portugal for a festival at the time and there was a market trading stall who was putting out t-shirts you know the usual sort of stuff that they put out and some of it's fucking tat and this this particular t-shirt was tat and it was every gun on this t-shirt was it was sold on the top of my road every gunner and online for people to buy every gunner is a runner and then the fighting cock emblem in the middle of it and we were like mate can you just like not do that like the way how you found this logo can you just every gunner is a runner it's not something we want to be associated people can see the logo and think that that's what something we're putting out and uh do you remember that rick i do remember that i do remember it indeed everyone's like cease and desist tweeting them we don't even own our logo we we nick that logo off i don't even know how case made that logo i think the one that we have now is we don't even own hopefully one day the keyser doesn't wake up the bloke who drew that originally we had a little embellish and it's like the little the uh is it still got the has little scratches on the on the cockerel is that our logo yeah i'm sure it does it's the same yeah i do want uh every gunner is a runner for uh christmas if anyone's looking for to get me something so and feel free to steal the logo because i can't see you so someone reached out asked me earlier, recently, the last couple of weeks, who isn't a Spurs fan, and they went, did you produce a t-shirt that said, Gooners eat babies?

59:46And I was like, yeah, we did. Yeah, back in the day. It was, I don't know. And we also produced a 1882 movement poster against Arsenal in the under-21s about Gooners eat babies as well. Very strange. Things we used to get up to. And we're going to wrap up soon boys and Gary Spurs says what is the worst experience you've ever had with an ex-professional footballer I haven't had any bad ones really I don't want to say this because he's passed away and he's a legend at Spurs but you started so you're finished yeah I started so I have finished Ray Clements I didn't have a great experience with Ray Clements early doors that was the same day actually you and I interviewed Clive Allen at Dagenham and Redbridge.

1:00:41Yeah. Do you remember that? On the same day, yeah, because I was going to mention that. I wouldn't say it was a bad experience, but it was a memorable experience. Why? Because I couldn't believe the size of his hands, his fingers. His fingers. He's got the same fingers as my dad's sausage fingers. And I brought this up in the interview with Rob Daly recently. Did you really? Yeah, I did. because you know Rob Daly and Rob Daly and um who's what Clive Allen did I where my brain my brain I don't know I think I might be getting dementia boys I really do um yeah so so the conversation was about how amazing Clive Allen is as a co-commentator with Rob Daly and everything that Rob Daly does great is is just made better by um his name who are we talking about Clive Allen fuck me I'm joking I'm joking Clive Allen right like they're amazing but we had this opportunity to interview Clive Allen at Dagenham and Redbridge right we sat down and me and Ricky were there and what wasn't made clear before going was that Clive Allen at the time was assistant manager or assistant to, depending, to carry Redknapp at the time.

1:01:56And we just couldn't ask him anything about tactics, players, anything, for good reason. And so we're kind of left with nothing. And then the biggest takeaway that we had from that interview, as lovely as Clive Allen was, was that he had the exact same hands as my dad. I hope you enjoyed that last three minutes of podcasting. It's been great. um alright boys I think that'll that'll do pig um yeah oh the final uh the second part of his question is uh Flav how many appearances on the overlap are you allowing Ben Bowman to have before you hire a hitman there isn't enough bullets in the world that could put down that man he's that big uh no Ben Ben deserves you know he's great Ben's doing a lot of good work working hard so every opportunity that should be afforded to him he should take and I support it wholly also he's growing out his hair now so he wants to show that off on TV doesn't he he's got a full head of hair as well which is annoying yeah really annoying so it's nice to see so he deserves it just for that like you know you're not going to grow your hair longer then not show it off are you so fair enough indeed right John Ricky you're legends thank you very much and up the Spurs I'm sure we're going to go to Arsenal and beat them 3-0 I'm sure I'm sure of it and you know if we don't then we've been here before if we do we will ram it down their dirty little scummy throats so win-win really alright bye boys see you next time Cock Cock Cock

We start off chatting about refusing to put the heating on, getting old and suddenly feeling the cold, unwanted erections on London buses and why MedExpress might be your best mate these days. Then we get into the away day at their place, Muani back on grass in a mask, Gabriel’s injury, why this Arsenal side still feels more agricultural than elite, and how a grim little set piece battle might actually suit us. We talk Vuscovic hype, Troy Parrott’s emotional week for Ireland and what level he really is, Semenyo’s release clause and what it would say about ENIC if we did or did not go big. There’s the usual filthy listener questions on virginity, drugs with Spurs players, mums, tattoos and The Overlap, and we finish by dreaming of a Frank masterclass and ankle-tapping those horrible lot right onto the asphalt.
