In short
The hosts dissect Tottenham’s 4-1 North London derby loss to Arsenal at the Emirates, focusing on Thomas Frank’s (Frank) “pragmatic” 5-4-1/5-at-the-back approach, Tottenham’s lack of chance creation (cited XG: 0.01 vs Arsenal; combined 1.17 across Arsenal and Chelsea), and how the game plan collapsed once Arsenal scored. They also discuss fallout from press conferences, calls for Frank to be sacked vs given time, and what Tottenham should do next (PSG, then Fulham).
Guest backgrounds
No named guests appear in the transcript; it’s a two-host discussion (Rick and another host).
Key claims
Tottenham’s setup was “cowardly/pathetic” and missed the derby’s need for intent; Arsenal’s dominance and Tottenham’s inability to progress the ball left them “penned in” and repeatedly booting long for Richarlison/Kudus to win second balls. The second-half switch to a back four improved things.
Notable examples
Richarlison’s worldie for Arsenal’s second; Trossard’s goal via a deflection off Van de Ven; Eze scoring a hat-trick against Spurs (and Spurs missing out on him in summer).

I hate talking. Fucking hate talking. Oh, God. why do we hate something we're supposed to love i don't know why won't they love us back i just want to be loved i woke up this morning and i was like monday work time to kind and then i was just like oh god that's there fucking hell where does it live yeah i had like a seven second delay and then i just wanted to turn my face around and scream into my pillow as loud as a fucking could it's like when you you go to war right and your leg's been blown off and you pass out yeah and then you come back to and you think that's a weird dream no legs still gone going to smithereens tissue everywhere um i had such a lovely day on saturday i bet you did you uh radio ahead yeah radio ahead and i just had a lovely time rick all of it was brilliant yeah two hours of radio had 25 songs favorite band ever this little lingering thing just in the back of my head was that north london derby's tomorrow yeah it's the it's the work equivalent of i've got i know i need to do my tax return it's like it's that little you can't fully enjoy yourself because you know it's just it's there yeah and then and then the absolute worst happens and the reality everything you everything you you don't want to happen yeah everything you visualize and think that can't happen yeah not like that it it did um i i was i think i used up every bit of serotonin and dopamine in my head at radiate oh right okay i see yeah it was a little bit messy okay not too messy but we indulged in some things.
4:08And I
4:12was quite empty on Sunday come kick-off. Not least I've had to travel all the way back to where I live in Wiltshire. Got down, seen my dad. He's given me the look. He's seen the team. He's seen the team. Yeah, I've seen the dad. Bit defensive, isn't it? He said. Well, against PSG, we played a back five. Yeah, sure. We weren't defensive then, Ricky. No. We went after him a little bit. Yeah, we did. We pressed him well. Scored two goals. Scored two goals. This was defensive. Yeah.
4:50I hated his guts so much at full time. Full time? You waited that long, did you? No, no, no. I think half time. I think, Rick, you can understand to some degree why he did it. If he was managing Brentford. I can understand it. Because no one gives a fuck if Brentford lose 4-1 to Arsenal. They don't even give a fuck. The Brentford fans walk out of there skipping. They don't give a shit if they get beat 4-1 by Arsenal. They like the defensive pragmatism. They know where they are. Do you know what I mean, Rick? They know where they stand. Yeah, of course. The Brentford fans are holding hands, skipping out of arsehole, if that was them yesterday.
5:32Yeah. Frank as well. I had a good team. Good team. What did he say? You've got to remember, we finished 17th last season. Fuck you. Yeah, yeah. Fuck. What are you saying? Yeah. He was clutching at straws with that last little sentence, wasn't he? Just to kind of try and dig himself out. And like you were saying, right? And before we go into this, and there will be some pointers where i'll be sticking up for frank not sticking up for him have an understanding of what frank did right uh but when a lot of the commentary around the game leading up and when he was at brentford he had had successes against the top 16 and he would play a back five so if you're in a new job and you want to kind of impress you want to keep things steady be hard to beat have a kind of a maybe even get a draw out of it or something like that i i don't know i don't know so i can understand why he went to a back five now me if let's say for instance my job social media manager and i had in my previous company i had some absolute bangers by tweeting a specific format of video so when i go to my new company if i had success like that fucking try it again when i just go do the same the same thing but it's different isn't it we're not Brentford we're Tottenham and it's a North London derby and we should be going there and don't get me wrong as well right I wouldn't have appreciated Angeball going there either like both fullbacks inverting everyone bombing forward as soon as we're in possession that kind of kamikaze style chaos I don't think I'd prefer I don't know if I would have preferred that but actually I probably would have preferred that from what I saw yesterday I'd rather die on my feet than live on my knees Rick yeah okay you know what I mean I'm not saying angible but at least we would have had a go at least if we were going to lose 4-1 it would be having a go that first half was, I would say, probably the most pathetic, cowardly performance I've ever seen.
8:17You sit up like that, that means you're afraid. Yeah. If you had no option to get forward, if we could not pass through the midfield, we couldn't even string two passes through the midfield to bring Kudus and Richarlis in the game. It was weak. And this is a North London derby. like I said like losing 4-1 and trying to to hit them trying to land the glove on them yeah and then you have to admit that they're the best team in the league they're six points clear that tells you everything but on top of that they are they are excellent right so I understand the need for pragmatism rarely beaten at the Emirates and we haven't fucking won there in 15 years either yeah I mean that was the second goal they conceded there all season yeah and it was a fucking worldie from from Richarlison um so look no I mean no one's going there saying we can beat Arsenal we're going you gotta go there with a bit of pride and passion and and it was just nothing there was a back five and then two holding midfielders in front of the back five yeah why is it so difficult to I mean And it isn't difficult.
9:31He must see it. But he just thinks this is the best way for us to... I anticipated that he was sort of saying, look, let's make it difficult for him. The first 30 minutes, and then we'll get our chances. We'll start to, you know, we'll find gaps. But Gary Neville called it. He goes, it's all well and good playing like this. The minute you go behind, that's it. You're done. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Did you hear him say that? Yeah, I did hear him say that. And on, like, I was thinking on 30 minutes, it was still nil-nil. and although it was fucking pig ugly to watch, I could sense in their crowd that when they were trying to get forward, that they were really trying to G them up because I think they felt a bit of tension.
10:11They weren't getting on their back, but you could feel a bit of it was getting to them that they hadn't scored yet. So I was thinking maybe, maybe we are frustrating them. Maybe Vicario's long kicks are getting to them. Maybe Richarlison giving them a bit of the needle is starting to rile him up a bit. And then they scored and it was like, right, okay, brilliant. Now that's over with. And like you were saying, once you're in a losing position from there, if you keep on playing like that, then how on earth are you going to try and get back into the game? It's just damage limitations after that.
10:54and it said North London derby so you'd expect us to have a go but when we when we when the team news was read out I'd already said I think we said on the the preview that on the left Udogi our preference would have been Spence because Saka's going to be cutting in within three minutes Saka had already cut in on his favourite foot three times and I'm like fucking great and one of them Udogi just he just totally spanned rounds just like lost him and i was like fucking hell this is gonna be a long afternoon in it but not only that when i did see the team and i was like okay right so we got five at the back and we got a dogey and spence and the the kind of thought processes they push up they're gonna be a bit more offensive and that will pin saka and who's on there the other side was it trossard that it would push them back anyway but it's that it's at the emirates and they're going to be the most you know they're going to have possession they're going to be on top so we are never going to be able to pin them back at all and i thought okay so if that happens then we are literally going to be with a back five and then we've got benton kerr and paulina so we're going to be in a low block now the space between this low block and where richarlison kudus and odabair are is huge in midfield and they were just walking through it like we couldn't do anything and before the game started that's how i felt like it was going to pan out and it did And it's like, it's just a shame that, I don't know, man.
12:42The thing is, our players are better than that. They are. If he's saying, you've got to remember, we finished 17th last season. Last season, I can't believe that those words came out of his mouth. I cannot believe it. Like, I'm all for patience, but you're so badly missing the point here. the fact that we finished 17th last season because we didn't have Romero and Van de Ven together at all practically yeah we abandoned the league form yeah in pursuit of the Europa League as you know discussed and is openly available as free information because of uh Ange Bustercogne said it uh and the and you know we just didn't play a team that was capable of winning in the Premier League, plus there's massive issues with how Ange set up, that team should never have finished 17th.
13:39The fact that it did is disgraceful. Yeah. The fact that you're using it, Frank's using it as a reminder to us, like we don't know, the fact that that's where the team that he picked up, it is scandalous that that team finished 17th. Yeah. Way too good to be 17th. Don't use that as an opportunity to talk around the fact that you got it so badly wrong and you made us look, it was embarrassing. I was embarrassed. Hugely. I was embarrassed. And I don't usually use language like this. And I know that Thomas Frank is a nice guy. And I know that he's intentioned to correct. and his abilities of a manager at Brentford should be without question.
14:37But I can't not hear the shit he's saying after games we lose. He spends so much time talking up opposition players. He did it at Brentford with Spurs. Yeah. You know, Kulisevsky, Madison. Ben and Kerr. Ben and Kerr, what a midfield. What a midfield. And you're like, well, spend less time doing that and more time telling us why, you know, you did this. Why you played such a... Why we're going to win. What the kids call it haramble. It was embarrassing. That's not the way Spurs play against Arsenal. I don't care. And to lose 4-1 as well. It was marginally better in the second half when he had to.
15:20He brought Xavi Simmonds on. I thought he looked, you know, in a difficult game where we were getting bad. he looked quite good I think he's going to blossom into a good player for us we've just got to play him in a system where he can be enjoy himself and be utilised and I'm I'm as frustrated by the way I didn't think it really mattered but I'm really frustrated by the way Frank is handling handling the press conferences at the moment it's like everyone's great apart from us I think it's it's compounded as well with our performance against Chelsea. There's two games that we have to turn up in and it's against the Gooners and Chelsea and we haven't turned up in either.
16:11Although yesterday there was a lot of apologies, I'd rather not have the apologies. I'd rather that we came away from the game, even if we'd lost, that at least we gave it a go. You don't have to apologise for losing. No. But you invited this. you invited this on by playing that and absolutely I just couldn't believe what I was saying and on top of that we were struggling to match Arsenal and the many reasons for that he's right in that Arteta took three years to get going and there have been occasions where Arteta has played defensive football but it weren't against Spurs no so I'm very annoyed at the moment and you know we had a total XG of 0.01 I think it was good and I think the combined XG for the Arsenal and Chelsea games was 1.17 you can't win games like that see that's what I mean it's just a poor showing now obviously that that suggests that um we have an issue in our chances created oh yeah and what what is it that that is going wrong why why aren't we able to so yesterday i was i was watching it and and every time we had the ball and it's like fuck we need to release a bit of pressure here like we're getting penned in and the ball would go back and forth between our back line then it'd go to vicario he would boot it upfield to try and find richarlison or kudas they weren't winning the balls maybe maybe if they did we weren't getting the second balls either and it's like then then it's just gifted straight back to the gooners or chelsea whoever and then they're on the attack again now we're finding it really hard to play out like we're being asked to play out from the back and we are but then as soon as it gets to van de ven and he's looking down the line or udogi or poro and it's like well i've got nothing i've got nothing in inside centrally palinia or bentonker to pass to to then move the ball up the pitch and we're just looking for that high, smacking the ball long and hoping that someone wins it in the air or we can pick up on the second balls and build on that.
18:55And it's just dire. Yeah, the lack of chance creation is a bigger issue. I mean, you know, we were booing against Manchester United a few games ago because we weren't creating anything. First shot was on like 71 minutes, if I remember rightly. nothing against Chelsea nothing again against Arsenal I know potentially you could argue that there's defensive stability is key and should be almost first and foremost sorting out a leaky defence but it's like it's like the focus it's just not I can't I don't want to watch a whole season of football like this No I'm sure people who have season tickets don't want to pay a thousand pounds to watch that football No I don't No you don't Ricky No Interestingly we did a little survey on Frank in or Frank out Oh yeah Let's see if you can guess what percentage is for both I would say Frank in and it's just for it's just in or out right in or out uh i would say in 76
20:24um so in is 61 percent oh and out is 39 percent wow i mean bearing in mind we just lost to arsenal and that may fluctuate a little bit but that isn't good after 13 games no like we've got PSG on Wednesday. Oh God. And the thing is, I don't mind if he does it against PSG. I have no problem with that. I'm not, I have an issue with pragmatism and defensive and solid, trying to be solid in the right circumstances. We can get a result, a draw out there. That makes sense. I understand if he would do that. I could, we'd be having a completely different conversation, but with the Arsenal game, he's missed, he's missed the point of it.
21:04He's missed, he might talk about how important that game is and how crazy it is. He mentioned about that before it started. But I don't think he really understood what it meant and how embarrassing it was to watch us play that way. No. And that was his choice. So, you know, you got the PSG game and then we've got Fulham at home. And if we're not creating chances again Fulham at home, then what the fuck? it's like i don't know what i don't know what i don't know what we do in this situation and like who like who's who's to to blame like ultimately it's frank but if we aren't clearly seeing us progress the ball in like what seeing patterns or anything and that and how we're moving the ball or how we're creating chances then isn't that down to the coaching team as well isn't uh cochran it like i think he leads the the the more offensive side of the first time yeah but what's he supposed to do like at his disposal if he's looking at a front uh look what you can do with his front players and frank's gone right you manage those front three right odabare richarlison because i'm taking all the others and this is what they're gonna do right yeah yeah about five and and we're gonna have two a double pivot card in the back five yeah he takes him away he says we're gonna do a rondo but there's just three of us it doesn't we're gonna do a rondo right i don't know um wait till half time and then change it up and like sort of bring some attacking players on i don't know i think when we went back to a back four and Xavi came on, we looked a hell of a lot better.
22:54Yes, we did. And we were more, I mean, it wasn't much more attacking, but it did feel like, and Arsenal would have definitely dropped off as well because they were just so dominant and it was quite late in the game. But we were having some joy and we were, like Xavi, when he was getting the ball, he was taking on a few players. He was driving forward. He had a couple of wild shots. he looked a lot better um but yeah it's it's just fucking shit really you can try the best you can you can try the best you can the best you can is good enough um steve nash knows who you are yeah i know i've uh i've seen can we talk about it well you can talk about that if you want how do i talk about it so that you you're comfortable well you can just say that he uh sent you a dm who was it about leave it uh yes steve nash listens to this podcast which is crazy right and i looked up his highlights because i know nothing about basketball he's a fucking baller he's well good oh yeah yeah he's like one of the goats yeah i never knew that and i knew knew about him i think there was a link at one point he was talking about potentially buying spares or something like that or was involved in some consortium i don't remember but i remember that's how he was linked and i looked at youtube and he's like you know well tricky with it i don't know about basketball uh but if you are listening steve sorry for yesterday it's not your fault

All I would say is they're obviously relatively new to the club.
26:48Yeah. And they probably don't understand English football etiquette. No. They don't know. It's not their fault, but... How did they get tickets? Oh man, this is another question. I don't know how they got tickets. I guess there's always a way if you've got enough money. Yeah. But Arsenal away, I mean, what have you ever managed to get? You've managed to get it once or twice? Once. I've been to the Emirates once and that was when someone, their dad was ill in hospital. So they had to go and tend to their dad in hospital and he said, I know it's like last minute, but I've got two Guna tickets. Do you want them?
27:29So me and my dad went and that was the 4-4 game. Oh, did you stay? I did stay. Why did you stay? I mean, I'm so glad you did, but obviously I would empty out quickly. Yeah, I think it's because that ticket is like gold dust, isn't it? So I just thought, I'm here. We've scored three goals. I might as well just stay to the end. and it's quite funny because where our seats were it was um it's uh next to the kind of like the gangway where you walk down and we scored the fourth and i turned around to my dad to celebrate with him and he was gone and i was like where the fuck is he and he'd been swept with a load of geezers right down to the front on the advertising boards i was like yes uh my my brother ryan left early and um it was left on 4-2 and by the we lived in Holloway back then and by the time we got to Holloway uh I think Spurs had just taken about to 4-3 yeah and you remember the Tolly where we used to drink the Tolly was like a rank Arsenal pub or match day full of them and he watched Lennon score the equalizer and they started banging on the window he's going yeah loads of gooners came out and had to run come on my my goona mate teasing to go he's obviously at the game and we you know we try to have a measured discussion because at the end of the day we're mates and yeah we support opposing football teams but what you tried to talk about the game after yeah yeah yeah well who started that conversation oh he did obviously well just say I don't want to talk about it leave me alone no no no because i'm uh i'm man enough to to take it it's fine and it was it wasn't like ah you're shit ah it was like he said i've never seen such a a weak like performance in north london derby i was like yeah it was pretty weak uh he said frank looks like he came to the emmits and shits it and i was like yeah that does look definitely and then um he said funny innit with that that pigeon lad you've got uh scored an absolute fucking worldie and i knew right when we scored it doesn't matter what anyone says or or how much they front there as soon as that went in in my mind i'm like at least i know in the back of their minds a little bit of poof has come out they've come out of their bum it always happens and i said when that ball went in were you worried and he was like yeah i was worried there was no chance we were going to come back just to give him a little bit of a scare made me feel a little bit um yeah something i know what you mean something yeah yeah we had something just a scare fucking worldy absolute world-class goal as well i didn't think he had that no it was so delicate it was a chip into the like if we would have in any way got something from that game that would be up there for goal of season yeah yeah it was beautiful it just as soon as it left his foot i was like this could be in and uh just done right completely great challenge as well has benst corey made the challenge i can't yeah who gives a fucking shit can we ricky normally when i when i watch a game or when i do a pod i like watch the highlights back just to make sure yeah no fucking chance i'm watching that shit again after this i finish this podcast i'm gonna kill myself yeah i don't know what you're doing but i'm gonna fucking kill myself mate yeah i'm gonna join you yeah me and you my uh my missus often has the radio playing like Alexa and she's been home this morning and each time it gets to the news and yesterday in the football Alexa off oh shut up fuck off shut up I got into the car this morning and I knew that it was it was preset on on the radio was preset to talk sport yeah and I knew that but i had to turn my my um my car on and i knew that talk sport would come straight through and i was like how quickly because it loads you do i got a screen on my car right yeah yeah and it's a little bit slow it's not like just pressing a button i can turn the radio off yeah it's all electronic now i was like in my head before i turned the car i was like how quickly can i get talk sport off in case i hear something yeah so i start the car and what a horror show for Tottenham and the Emirates last night.
31:58Fuck off! Literally the minute I put the car on. Fucking nightmare.
32:07So there are people calling for pragmatism. Sorry, calling to give Frank time. I think it's the sensible thing, isn't it? 13 games in the Premier League isn't enough to judge any manager. And he may look at this and go, I made a mistake. I got it wrong there. And I can learn. No one suggests. Well, there are. there are actually 41 % of people, 39 % of people that want him out now, which is, like I say, quite a lot. But he can learn from it, right? He knows, he must know. I didn't see his entire press conference. I don't know if he acknowledged. I did, and there was a bit like… Was there any acknowledgement?
32:48Not really. I mean, there was an acknowledgement, um but it was talking about the low xg against chelsea and the gooners and i think there was another game i think maybe united what you know we didn't really create that that many chances and it's like is this a concern and he was like well they are all three very different types of games and it's like just acknowledge it frank so yes just acknowledge there's a problem and solve it
33:20it's another game with a lack of creativity is it concerning that it's still not clicking it's concerning of course we're working very hard to try and make that better but sometimes it's not only playing out and finding a nice pass in the final pass but it's also in a game like this you see some of the situations where they won it higher arsenal then there was a little bit more open space we didn't win it enough in those situations and then create from that for me creativity i know it was very low but it was not my biggest concern today
33:50what was your biggest concern then swear to god i'm gonna find a truck that's driving really fast and i'm just gonna run in front of you and explode swear to god ricky uh did you get it wrong by setting the tone with a negative formation i'm a very big believer that no matter what system you can play you can be successful i completely understand the question i will always take full responsibility the full responsibility was always be with me today and when we didn't perform i picked a team that played 5-4-1 changed it at halftime very clever one minute into it in into it they scored 3-0 the rest is history after that yeah you changed it because you got it wrong which is which is fine you can be reactive but you start with the mentality of we're here we're gonna make we're gonna cause you problems yeah because there are a hundred and 30 odd years of rivalry between these two clubs yeah um and if you sit your stool out like that right you you know it's like they're not even thinking that top them are going to come out and hurt us or that they've got any intention of coming out to attack or do anything so you can continue to when you've got possession to move forward and to make mistakes and to keep going and keep doing kind of intricate passing or popping it here or or whatever and if it doesn't pay if it doesn't but then sometimes it does and trossard will be on the end of it or as a will be on the end of it so it's like you do you're you're straight from the off it's kind of that message of we're just going to stick everyone behind the ball really and make us hard to beat whereas if we gave them something to worry about because of our intent they may not have been so gung-ho and all over us they they may have you know resorted to longer balls or whatever it might have been but they never had that worry because of how it's set up so it's like shit really what did you how how it's a bit of a strange question to ask but how did you feel about Eze getting a hat trick against us I felt fantastic considering that we missed out on him in the summer I felt yeah it was great it was great to see him score I'm really happy for the lad yeah so yeah good for him yeah I feel that felt great I mean, he made the right fucking decision, clearly.
36:37Like, what? Like, we're all going like, oh, fucking, what a wanker. He agreed to come to Spurs, but Arsenal came in and he's joined them. Why wouldn't you? Why wouldn't you? Like, you know, despite the fact that he's an Arsenal fan, which makes him a credit anyway. But do you think he would have been able to put that before? He would have been stuck out left yesterday. Yeah. Oh, for sure. So, yeah, that was lovely, wasn't it, Rick? Because not only were we getting beat 4-1, the bloke who rejected us to join Arsenal scores a hat-trick. Yeah. The first player to score a hat-trick in like 700, 400 years against him.
37:14Yeah. Here's what you could have won, and then he scores a hat-trick. I'm like, fucking. Remember me? Bash, bash, bash. Do you know what? Despite the sort of cowardly performance in the first half, we were a little bit unlucky to go concede those two goals I'm not saying Arsenal didn't deserve it and you create enough opportunities you're going to get luck yeah but Van der Ven done really well to make that block and it come off his foot and went in off the post for the Trossard goal yeah there is an argument Les Ferdinand brought up that the second goal could have been an offside because they were standing in front of Vicario yeah blocking his view I don't know if they were though I think it would have been harsh, but it's a point of contention and VAR would have looked at it.
38:04But that had to go through the legs of two players. Not that it went straight through and nutmegged them both, but the two defenders did alright. It just took another deflection and went in. Not that I'm mad. I know. I know. I want to go to a train station, Rick. I'm going to go to a train station and I find a train that's not stopping. I'm going to get disintegrated by it. Did you... Are all batteries the same? That's like asking if all soccer players are the same. Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that? No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with power boost ingredients inside?
39:00No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different. And Messi only trusts Duracell. You have one new message. Translating. Disney and Pixar's Hoppers is now available on Disney+. You could say that again. Critics are calling it Pixar's funniest movie ever and a wildly entertaining ride. Blizzard potato. It's certified fresh and verified hot. Now we party. This is incredible! Wow, I am clear in the rest of the day. Disney and Pixar's hoppers, now available on Disney+. Rated PG. Chronic migraine. 15 or more headache days a month, each lasting four hours or more, can make me feel like a spectator in my own life.
39:47Botox, onabotulinum toxin A, prevents headaches in adults with chronic migraine. It's not for those with 14 or fewer headache days a month. It's the number one prescribed branded chronic migraine preventive treatment. Prescription Botox is injected by your doctor. Effects of Botox may spread hours to weeks after injection causing serious symptoms. Allerge your doctor right away as difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, eye problems, or muscle weakness can be signs of a life-threatening condition. Patients with these conditions before injection are at highest risk. Side effects may include allergic reactions, neck and injection site pain, fatigue, and headache.
40:17Allergic reactions can include rash, welts, asthma symptoms, and dizziness. Don't receive Botox if there's a skin infection. Tell your doctor your medical history, muscle or nerve conditions, including ALS Lou Gehrig's disease, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, and medications, including botulinum toxins, as these may increase the risk of serious side effects. Mate, I left on 92 minutes and spent half an hour talking to Cal on Patreon. that was that was that was needed i needed that afterwards because i i we sat down and we uh we just we just went for it all really on patreon just straight after the pod and uh yeah do you know what would have helped us rick a little bit and i appreciate no one wants to hear this right now right okay but a bit of nordvpn in defense i know no one wants to uh to to hear about nordvpn right now because of what you know we've just lost but yeah uh it is good value for money right and it's it's uh it's nordvpn.com forward slash the fighting cock i read the other day that uh porn hub's audience has dropped by 70 since the ban Wow, really?
41:37Yeah. They're guide. They're like, what are we doing? Because everywhere else in the world, it's fine. You don't need anything. Yeah. And that's the thing with NordVPN. You can just literally, like I did it this, I mean, not this morning, obviously, but I needed to access some content that was geo-locked. Yeah. And I just went to Sweden for a couple of minutes and then came back. Is that where you go, Sweden, is it? I just set it up for Sweden. it just went it just i just you have just once you've set one the like a location when i say set you're literally clicking on a map and you never have to think about it again yeah i for some reason i'm always in new york new york feels like going across the across the ocean it feels like there'll be a longer delay for the video that i want to watch uh is that what i lost my erection by then which is a which is a common experiment we're not doing a medic expression uh the yeah so uh but there's other things you can do watching sporting events so i was watching the ashes last uh last week another great week for sport for me by the way i mean i know you hate cricket you don't get into it ricky but that was nearly nearly not quite as depressing as it was yesterday oh yeah we just got absolutely battered by the aussies and i don't know if anyone watches cricket when you're watching it but in this country but tnt has the worst coverage of cricket ever there was one point where the commentary was ahead of the footage so you're watching it and it goes oh and he's out and the ball hasn't even left the bat i mean it had but you know it's just a few seconds so you're like all the drama's taken away by their complete monumental fuck up and you have to pay for b uh tnt right you have to pay for bt sports that's scandalous I know it fucked up completely but when using NordVPN what I did was go to 7 plus in Australia which is a terrestrial tv which is showing the ashes for free clicked on Australia signed up for an account which was like like what you do when you sign up for the BBC and then I was just watching their coverage for free yeah nordvpn.com forward slash the fighting cock keep supporting a pod to sign up everyone will need a vpn at some stage it does have a cool stuff like protect you from um from naughty stuff on the internet malware pop-ups all that kind of stuff it keeps people out so if you're you can be yourself online pretty much and be safe um what else we got here what did you make of um their their tifa well it wasn't a tifa was it are they called Tivo yeah it's alright I guess it's better than the fireworks it's better than that big flat that big cannon that they had on there I don't think fireworks should ever be I mean if we use fireworks against Chelsea I don't think we should ever use fireworks no no definitely not fireworks do no Palace still have cheerleaders do they really yeah fucking hell that is a bit mental innit yeah what did you make of it I mean it was better than what they had before but I just yeah and the fireworks and when we I think it's when we played Chelsea and we had the I don't know what you fucking call them but there was like six or eight things that shot out fire yeah I fucking hate that stuff hate it yeah how does so we're in this situation with Frank how does he fix this like what should if you are Thomas Frank now what do you do What in terms of the lineup?
45:18I think he needs to pick either. Well, I mean, like we've got Palinja, so he wants a kind of a, what you would call a destroyer. Someone who's going to break up the play, get the blocks in, defend, protect the centre-backs. but playing him against uh bentonker i just it just doesn't doesn't work really if you're going to play two two of them someone needs to be more offensive in that position who's who's partnering him i don't want to see five ever again in my life not even against psg so i'd rather just get run over by psg and have the four at the back because it's like it's all well and good when you're sitting deep it felt like um it felt like um when marino was here sit in the trenches defend for your lives and then bang it up to sonny or kane and they'll do something this time we didn't have sonny or kane we had no one and the ball just kept coming back and we had no chances or nothing being created barely holding the ball up or anything so and And I'm not, you know, kicking the ball long and hoping that one of our strikers or a small Oda bear is going to win the ball and be able to hold it up whilst everyone moves up the pitch in time and then they can support him.
47:06again I just it just doesn't work you even need the players to do that or just don't play like that I was thinking about Jose Mourinho a lot when I was watching the game I remember Alex said to me when the way Mourinho set up at Tottenham he spent as much time looking at his phone as he would watching the game yeah he was disinterested watching Tottenham but we just fell into shape relatively difficult to break down but we didn't have the ball for like five minutes I don't know the game seems to have changed it's about managers, it's about coaching now rather than just allowing players to express a little bit I know I'm sort of roasting the glasses and there were definitely issues back in the era where it was a little bit more gung-ho but it's so rigid football now that I don't know man it just felt like there was it reminded me of the clip when Dele Alli went we're just smashing it long and fucking defending yeah yeah do you remember that yeah yeah yeah the players are feeling this that's a worry as well what they've been asked to do like our players are so much better than having to play that way yeah so are they not going to be frustrated they must be i mean like you it no i don't think anyone really like i remember um romero when like talking about ang and that uh even after the losses and we had a lot of injuries and we were like losing just by the odd goal and stuff and he was like you know this is the way this is you know we move forward together and this is the way and this is how we want to play football and have total belief in it but like as a player you don't really want to go out there and defend for 90 minutes in mid to low block and just waiting for set pieces or uh just uh like even if we are just waiting for set pieces and then frank is kind of like the the high chance areas where where you he expects us to shoot or or work the ball into those areas but we're not working the balls into those areas so then we're not shooting so it's like i don't know like then we need to work very very hard on how we're progressing the ball up the pitch and not only that is when we get into those areas how are we looking to to try and score because it doesn't look like it just it looks like the ball's just going back and forth circulating recirculating no one's really moving or getting into any positions any of those cute one twos or trying anything it just feels very flat at the moment and for him not to be able to to say that um i don't know he he must and him and the coaching staff must be able to see this and either that they are they're doing what they feel is right damage limitations until we get to january because we haven't got the players that he wants to play uh that that suits his system or style or i don't know there's an all really well i've just seen a bloke saying um but it was at half time he went I've just poured bleach into my head and now I'm blind cheers to bears yeah

50:55oh mate I don't know Rick it's a tough one another one for us that we've got to take on the chin yeah like when they I don't want to bring this up but when they were saying title mods will you always be shit and I'm like do you think we will will we always be shit like why because we spend the same money as everybody else pretty much right now I know, and I wanted to be like, we've just won a European trophy. Not even six months ago. You can't sing that to us. Get the trophy out. Go and get the trophy, someone. Go and show them.
51:31Yeah, my dad lost it. Lost it completely. He was just going, we've got to spend some money. We've got to spend some money. Dad, we do spend money. It's not like we're not skimping on players. We do spend money, Dad. What he means, I think, is we need, and it's like, it's not as, it doesn't land as well. We need to make better decisions. Yeah. About everything. Players coming through the door, the manager that you hire, the vision of the football club, all that sort of stuff needs to be done. And like you say, like after, I mean, we can't ask for anything against PSG, Rick. I think it would be scandalous to suggest that we can win there.
52:14Do you think that is scandalous? Yeah, that is scandalous. Bayern Munich won there, so we can win. Yeah, they've got nine wins, three draws, and one loss in Ligue 1. So if they've lost in Ligue 1, we can do something. Yeah, Farmers League, innit? Yeah. But after that, Tottenham finishes. Have we got any kind of games that we can look forward to? and went like Fulham, Newcastle away. I never went out there. No. Tottenham at home against Brentford. Slavia Prague at home. Oh. Forest away. Oh. I just want to win a football match. We got Fulham on that on Saturday, late kickoff. And, Dad, I know you're listening to this.
53:02Is it on TV? It must be, yeah. Fuck's sake. Yeah. And Dad, you haven't messaged me since the result yesterday. It's been radio silence. And I know you're listening to this. Don't you dare. Don't you dare message me this week and say, shift my Fulham ticket. I'm not going. Don't leave me to go on my own, all right? Saturday evening. If I have to suffer this, you have to suffer it. You made me do this, all right? did did uh did did he will he not go is that what you think yeah he won't go i'm telling you yeah yeah listen mate you're can we say your name yeah of course dennis yeah he for those two things you got to understand mate and you know how much how much i think about you no i think i think of you i think best friend yeah thank you so um i needed you last night when i texted you and you didn't text me back you you text me at like quarter past 10 at last night saying do you want to do the pod honestly i felt like unscrewing the light bulb and licking my fingers and putting my finger in the fucking live thing smashing a bulb in your face yeah but i'm hurting too and if i'm hurting you need to i don't know be there for me reach out not at that not at that minute not at that minute we were everyone was saying no everyone was saying no oh i can't i've got i've got funerals to go to i've got a i mean fair enough that's that's fine obviously but um you know you could have spared half hour but the uh um everyone else i couldn't i'm in the office I mean, there was a lot of that.
54:51A lot of that. Oh, suddenly now you're in the office. Of course you're in the office, yeah. Yeah, exactly. And I'm like, who's going to get me out of trouble here? I know. My Bessie mate, Ricky. I need you to do the pod tomorrow if you're about me. Nothing. Radio silence. I was waking up at 4am going, You knew I would have been here. I know. Like I am here. I think about you. When Esi scored the third, just after our time, just your little face. That's what I did. I did think about it. I was like, oh, Ricky must be going through it right now. Was your new Todd? Yeah, I always watch it on my own.
55:31And for some reason, I always watch it. You've got the TV there and I'm standing up and my face is like literally pressed against the TV, standing up for the whole game, just watching it. Mrs. comes in, you're all right? Yeah, just leave me alone. Yeah. Oh, God. I came back and my missus had a bottle of wine because she was cooking dinner. So she was fucking well, Mary. Oh. She was like, hey, yeah, yeah. Except I've been away for a couple of days, which is nice. Yeah. Don't get me wrong. When you get home and you get that energy, you want that energy. They're happy for you to be back. Yeah. But I weren't in that mind state.
56:10No. I was like, hi, hi. Wow, what's radio head? Was it great? Yeah. Yeah. yeah Spurs got battered by Arsenal yeah we know we saw it oh yeah alright still a bit chipper are you yeah oh you did see it did you you seem you seem absolutely fine do you want your roast dinner no I can't eat right now I can't eat right now it's like you know you just lost your son at sea yeah and then you get home and they're like do you want a roast dinner nah I can't eat. I just see my son drown. Let's see. Mate, just heard, Rick, before we started recording, I meant to talk to you about this. And maybe we'll go into this a little bit more Lads Anonymous on Friday.
57:00So if you want something to listen to that isn't about football and it's just me and Ricky talking, listen to Lads Anonymous. Please don't. All right. That's an expert, Rick. Yeah. But there was four lads in Australia, 18-year-olds. This is a sad story. Right. And they went swimming at night in New South Wales. Right, okay. Right, so you know there's a couple of problems here. Yeah. Our Aussie friends who are listening to this podcast, fuck the lot of you, by the way, for the ashes. You go fuck yourselves. A lot of you, Sam Cornish, if you're listening, you go fuck yourself. And you can fuck yourself as well.
57:39Anyway, yeah, so our Australian friends will know about this. New South Wales is probably the most dangerous region for animals on Earth. They've got everything there. Yeah. I wonder if they've got crocodiles. Oh, yeah, of course they've got salties there, mate. Salties! Salties! The fucking biggest, baddest crocs on the planet. Hold on a second. I just need to check, because I was just thinking about sharks, but... New South Wales. That have snakes, spiders. no what they're they're not that so saltwater crocodiles are not native in new south wales their natural habitat is in the tropical northern region of australia such as queensland okay so you don't have to deal with that you have to deal with bull sharks great whites and tiger sharks yeah in the water there's fucking snakes spiders honestly the worst place on earth it's gotta be um so these four lads went out and were standing on a sandbar so if people don't know yet in in in the ocean certain sections of the ocean you'll have bits where a sand dune effectively is created by the tide and is underwater but there are bits of the the sea where when it's quite relatively shallow and you can stand on these sandbars and then there's very deep bits next to the sandbars, right?
59:07And there might be four or five of these going out to sea. So you can swim to one, stand up, swim to one, stand up. Why you want to do that at night is beyond me, but they were standing on a sandbar and it collapsed and they all went in the water and one of them drowned, unfortunately. Oh, fuck. So it's all relative, isn't it? Why were we worried about the Arsenal game when something terrible like that? Yeah, it could have been in the sandbar. It just sent shivers down my spine, Rick. It's more the fact of getting in the water at dark. How did they, like, if they're standing on a sandbar and it collapsed, wouldn't they still be in the top bit of the water?
59:47I don't understand what happened. I don't know. It just collapsed and then, I don't know, let's not get into it. Did you see Noel Gallagher? He was waiting for a train at Paddington Station and then just on the tube. He's always there. He's always at Paddington? Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's he doing there? Because from where he lives, that's how he gets into London. He's always on the train.
1:00:11Surely it must be a nightmare. I don't know. Charlie Marks met him at Waterloo one time, I believe. If you saw him on the train, he's like your idol. You'd love him. Yeah, I've thought about this many times. What do you do? Leave him alone. Leave them alone because you don't want to go up to them and be like, can I get a photo or whatever? Because if they're horrible to you, then that's going to be your last impression of them. I've never known why people go up to famous people and ask for a holiday. Sorry, ask for a holiday. Ask for a... Why does that mean we need so much? I don't know. Because it's just like going up to Noah Gallagher, hello mate, can I have a holiday?
1:01:00What? Yeah, no. what do you want holiday what what i'm not going to give you a holiday you know why steve nash reached out to me because as a joke i said i know you're listening to this steve i've got a house to pay for can't just give me some money right and that's why he responded what with the money no no no i'm still waiting for the money he did say that he would give money but he needed something in exchange from you, Rick. He didn't say that. But he did want something in exchange. I can't give that up. It's not worth anything. No. Right, leave it. Right, this is it, Ricky. This is the end.
1:01:44What I meant is, why do people go up to famous people and ask for photos? What do you do with that photo? Yeah. You post it online and then what? I think it's if you're really into someone. If you saw Tom York, would you get a fight over him? No. Would you not? No, he's aloof. He wouldn't want it. I wouldn't want to be that guy. Okay, fair enough. I don't feel like there's a weird sort of, you adore Noel Gallagher. I think Tom York is immensely impressive but I don't want to meet him I don't want to chat with him I just like his music I don't give a shit really okay I'd like to get photos of me and Noel put it on the mantelpiece right I'm going to go now Ricky thank you for doing this mate I know it's tough yeah I know it is fucking tough it is tough but we'll be back after PSG on Thursday Rick you're going to be around yeah great I don't know about the others I don't know if they've got the minerals to do it take care mate see you later

We try to process that 4 1 at the Emirates, from Thomas Frank’s five at the back and 0.01 xG to what it says about where Spurs are right now. We talk about chance creation, the players having to live in a low block, whether Frank really understands the North London derby, and what has to change before PSG and Fulham. There is some Radiohead chat, Steve Nash listening in, half and half scarf crimes and the usual coping mechanisms along the way.
