In short
Tottenham Hotspur fan frustration at Thomas Frank’s early struggles, debate over whether to sack him, and the crowd’s reaction to goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario’s costly mistake; also includes a brief chat about calorie counting/food habits and a question about alternative sports to follow.
Guests/backgrounds
Ben (podcast host/Spurs fan) and Ricky (podcast host/Spurs fan). They discuss personal match-day experiences, ticketing frustrations, and long-term Spurs support.
Key claims
- Ben is closer to “Frank out,” arguing Spurs are regressing, playing boring/uneventful football, and not creating chances.
- Ricky is more “Frank in,” saying it’s early (13 league games) and Frank needs time/transfer windows; he cites slow starts in Frank’s past jobs.
- Fans booed Vicario after a severe error; Ben/Ricky argue it was the worst mistake they’ve seen, but booing a player for a mistake is still wrong and distracts from broader issues.
- Ticketing/admin costs and poor home performances compound anger.
Notable examples
- Vicario’s mistake while Spurs were already 1-0 down (leading to a 2-0 deficit).
- Upcoming fixtures framed as brutal: Newcastle away, then Brentford at home.
- Mention of Spurs’ home win drought in the league and prior fan booing examples (e.g., Hassam Ghali).

1:53It's a fighting. Cock! Oh, come on, sir! No! So, yeah, we were talking just before hitting record that Ricky's on a health kick, right? He wants to lose weight, wants to feel better about himself, like we all do. I definitely do, but I never do anything about it. And then we got to talking about the much-fabled... spaghetti bolognese is that you used to have way back yeah yeah yeah i'd say that's 15 years ago the size of the spaghetti bolognese portions were ridiculous you knew they were ridiculous ricky yeah i did yeah yeah yeah but what so when you're piling the plate on when you were putting on at least 400 grams of spaghetti yeah on one plate yeah and then just i don't know four ladles of spaghetti bolognese yeah yeah yeah yeah um and then loads of cheese and as we know no cutlery what do we use for cutlery rick garlic bread two sticks of garlic bread two sticks of garlic bread for um i'm a cutlery for the cutlery just spoon just spoon it up uh we've started ben how are you doing mate i'm good thanks how are you guys sorry i just walked in on the most menna class uh sentence of we used uh garlic bread for cutlery for spaghetti bolognese i used to go around ricky's house i wish is probably before even podcast even even begun yeah yeah yeah and um yeah we uh i'd go around ricky's house around his flat and he'd be serving himself up a bolognese like everyone knows ricky loves a bolognese he's been tweeting marry kane about bolognese for 10 years and it was it was like it was a mountain it was an absolute mountain and we might have embellished the idea that he didn't use a knife and fork i think he did yeah but in my mind my genuinely what i remember so like that hmrc football hmrc like yeah people are talking about their careers they believe what they're saying yeah it's just not true i believed that when i went into your house you had two sticks of garlic bread yeah one was your knife one was your fork and then you'd make your way through the forget your bolognese and you know you know when i served out that pile and you said like what were you thinking back then do you know what i was thinking when i served out that big massive pile of spaghetti bolognese god I love spaghetti bolognese oh mate it would be great it would be great why can't we eat that every day that's so good at first I thought you meant that it was like I couldn't work out whether you meant whether it was like a garlic baguette or like you know where you get the garlic bread slices which would be a lot more convenient to like scoop yeah so you're saying that you've got two garlic batons yes from one yeah that is quality so good anyway so the reason why we're talking about this is because you uh yeah ricky um has changed his mind uh about that living that life yeah i want to live a more healthy lifestyle respect but i wouldn't say it's more healthy i'd say i'm calorie counting yeah i don't give a fuck what i eat as long as the calories low on it and i get enough but what i didn't realize ricky is that you'd sort of fallen off the wagon you'd gone into bad habits because in your own words I've got a holiday so I might as well treat myself a month before I go yeah I tried like leading up to the holiday to do the calorie counting and because you're starving yourself then you get a month into I'm going on a holiday in a month well you know what's a month what's a month between friends so then I just start piling the food back on and then the the bolognese servings came up with everything the mashed potato I was having was fucking insane on your mountain loads of mashed oh mate yeah like loads of butter and salt and it's just like it's summertime and i'm fucking having pie and mash this is winter winter dinners and i'm having it in the summer i'm going on holiday so i went on holiday for like two and a bit weeks ate my way through that i came back and i was like what have you done to yourself rick look at yourself look at yourself in the mirror hold your hold your own gaze now look at your little orangutan body you said you had like a mirror you've got a mirror when you run downstairs that you can see jiggling in yeah yeah yeah oh it's terrible it's rubbish um but yeah anyway look at us um i'd rather sort of i might just eat myself into an early grave yeah yeah if i could i reckon i could i reckon i could eat myself into an earlier grave before spurs get any better i might have the biggest dinner you've ever seen tonight to induce a heart attack just so i don't have to watch that tomorrow what would you have what's like the most risky meal you could have to make sure that we don't have to watch the game like what's something with the most amount of cholesterol you could think of in the world just so it's like tomorrow doesn't come the way to do it would be eggs I think like a shit ton of eggs really that's really bad for you you can overdose what cholesterol yeah yeah there's a safe limit to eat of eggs did you not know this how many eggs you eating I literally saw a video yesterday that was like, eggs are one of the things that you can eat as much of and not put on any weight.
6:59I'm not saying weight. I'm talking about the amount of cholesterol in your body. So it's like the sort of same thing about drowning yourself. You can drink too much water. Yeah, and your brain swells and then you're dead. Maybe you should do that. Yeah. We'll have 12 pints of water immediately. It's this mad pact where the Spurs fans are dropping like fries from water retention just because you want to watch Newcastle. Letting out one last final booze. As the 12th pint of water just swells up your brain. Bleh. Bleh. Ah, I've got a sweet relief. I had a question, actually. I put out a request for questions on my Instagram because on Twitter it's all good and good, but everyone's fucking so angry and upset, whereas on Instagram it's a bit more personal when people are a little – oh, my God, there's tons.
7:50I need to find – oh, my God. It was the last thing I expected to see when I went on Instagram this morning, a little front-facing camera video from you to ask for questions. I was a bit taken aback by that. He's done what? Yeah. Hi, guys. You're just fucking kidding me. It was a little... It wasn't a high... I didn't high, guys. Just thought I'd jump on... Just jumping on... Just jumping on Instagram. See, this is why I don't do it. I want to see that content more. I can't wait to go on Instagram after this. I was just quite shocked I'm getting left behind by the young 'uns I've got some sad old man start using Instagram about 14 years too late I just thought it would be a good way to generate some leads and questions and mate there's been a shit ton we're not going to be able to get through all these it's good to know it works but what did you think Ben?
8:47of the video? yeah if I wasn't on the pod it made me convinced to ask a question. I think it did work. It was engaging. Well, here's a question from Matt underscore Bayford. And follow me on Instagram if you want. I need to get those numbers up. Flav underscore Bayford. Flav, I'm curious. As someone who's stuck with Ange for so long, what has made your question, what has made you question Frank? Sorry, it's gone off. So someone who's stuck with Ange for so long, what made you question Frank so soon into his tenure? I feel like I'm the only one defending him at the moment, albeit I don't have much of a rebuttal, but I just can't see the good in sacking another manager after 13 games in the league.
9:26Also, I'm going to fucking mentor. Is it singing out or is singling out an individual player by booing their touch irrespective of the mistake? Absolutely ridiculous. Make your thoughts known at halftime and full time as a collective. I do, however, appreciate the wider context. Sorry for the rant. Right, there's a lot there, and that's probably half the podcast. So I'll tell you where I am with Frank shortly, but where are you? I'm still Frank in. I still think it's pretty early doors. I feel like he's still getting to grips with being at a club like Tottenham in comparison to Brentford and having everything set up and made in his own kind of image and in his own way.
10:13and it was okay for results to kind of pass them by as long as they were still staying within the league and then building up to where they were when he left. So I think he's still getting to grips with that side of things and coming to a club like Tottenham and the pressure and spotlight on you. Also, that's when he took over, you know, we did finish 17th and I know, you know, mid-game circumstances, blah, blah, blah. but he was still picking up a bit of a bit of a mess really. So I still want to give him time. I still want to give him transfer windows. And I still think he will turn this around.
10:55And then there is the other part of me that he had a slow start. Did he have a slow start at Brentford and at Bromby? Yeah, Brentford he definitely did. I don't know about Bromby. And at Bromby? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you guys know what he did at the start of Bromby's Bromby career, do you? I think, I believe he had a slow start there as well. So I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm not, I'm nowhere near Frank out yet, if I'm honest. And I think he'll turn it around. Good. Ben? I'm much closer to Frank out, I'll be honest. Oh! Yeah, I think he's, I was, after Saturday, I was like, he's got to go.
11:36The only thing, the only thing for me that's kind of like, that's holding me back is that the manager market right now is obviously not great in terms of the unemployed managers. There's a few, but I think it's difficult to make that decision until the summer when there's probably a much more like clearer picture. But I'm just so fed up. Like I thought, I just think I don't, I don't actually back him to turn it around. Like I really like him and I want him to and I'm not any, like anyone who's like, oh, I just want it to get over with. You know, people are like, oh, I hope almost, these aren't real football fans, but you know people are like oh I hope we lose games so it's just like he goes quicker I'm nowhere near that I do still like him and I'd like him to be able to turn around I thought he was a guy in the summer to do that I thought he was a kind of nice bridge between what we had with Ange and what we previously had with Conte Mourinho etc and I was quite big on him but I just feel like we're regressing I feel like we're getting worse I think that's kind of the problem it's like I felt the green shoots that were there even like a few weeks ago and we've seen in some of the performances I feel like we're just regressing massively and I just don't see him be able to turn it around I'm not sure I'm not sure the players I don't I don't think they're having him I don't know what it is there's just something about it where I'm not think they I think they're not convinced by the style that we're trying to play they've got to take a lot of the blame for this as well by the way it's not just it's not just on Frank um but I always said I said it before PSG and I said it after as well I thought Fulham would be the big test for me in terms of like can he actually deliver a performance that against these sort of teams that have been his kryptonite really and he didn't he failed again I feel like we could be in a situation where off the back of Newcastle away and then Brentford at home at the weekend where we're like 16th 17th from the table again it's just like the league is that tight where and then you think about the morale of the squad like it's just I don't see him turning around personally I'd like to be wrong I genuinely would like to be wrong because I do like him but I've kind of lost a bit of hope with him to be honest um it's ridiculous of me to even suggest that we remove a manager 13 games into his tenure at a football club it's not it isn't something that I would happily admit to on a podcast and I wonder where this guy's heard me say that I'm frank out or giving up on frank so quickly because given the fact that i spent so long back in and it may have been the podcast i did directly after full-time after the fulham game which i i hate doing because i you're so emotional and so like i was so angry there was a bit right at the end where i edited it out it's on patreon where i edited it out just before sending it and went he's just gotta go we've gotta go he's gotta to sack him i don't feel like that now but i did directly after the game yeah i was the same like i made a video straight after like in the ground being like i was like i think he i was just like he's got to go like i think he's got to go now um and you do sort of naturally calm down a bit more but i still i still have those big doubts like i the the my major issue is if i don't mind at this stage losing games it's not that it's i just don't it's so boring yeah it's so uneventful it's so lacking of imagination and like you say it might take time to get to that point and and ricky's position probably is the correct one at this stage but i just wondered what's happened to us as a fan base i think we're sort of i think all of us are suffering a little bit of like ptsd like we've gone through some mad stuff we don't know what kind of football club we are what our aspiration should be we've won a cup and finished 17th that's never been done before like it's it's mental you're getting battered every week then we win a cup and you're like oh well shit look we've won a cup so this is good but we've got to sack that manager we've got to sack the manager that brought us the glory and everyone's going yeah it kind of makes sense what world are we living it no wonder we're all fucked booing players and shit we don't know whether we're coming or going as a fan base on top of that some people in that stadium paying 2 300 quid a year for a season ticket.
15:43That's about£800 a win in the last 12 months. So we're in this process of just, it's like we've been brought up with bad parents, in a bad house. We didn't stand a chance. And we're living on a road where all the healthy families live with their sports cars outside. And we've got a nice car, but our dad's a fucking drug dealer. We've never been around. Do you know what I mean? We live on a nice road, but it's abusive, our house. And we're kids, we're going to come out of that household and we're going to start being angry and upset. I'm not sure why. Why are we angry? There was a geezer. There was a geezer.
16:19His name's Kwaku. I've met him. Lovely geezer. And he's doing all right on TalkSport at the moment, Chelsea fan. And he was saying, I saw a clip. You know him, Ben, don't you? Yeah. I saw a clip of him going, who do Spurs fans think they are? Demanding us, demanding the fact that you want to watch attractive football, expansive football. And I'm like, we're the ones that, I mean, you know, Ricky, for example, and that poor geezer who's decided to spend 2 ,300 quid on a season to get to watch Spurs. They have been gaslit into suggesting by the prices they pay for entry that Spurs will entertain you.
17:00And what Quakerie doesn't realize is that we have a history of that. And when we don't see it, and in fact, if we see the exact opposite of that, it's not going to sit right. It just ain't going to sit right. I'm not Frank out because I don't want to be. I'm forcibly positioning myself to not be. But I cannot watch another, I can't watch seven more months of that football. Six months of that football where we're not going after them. I think it's one of those ones where it's like, even if you're not, it's very hard to argue with the reasons why people would be. If you get what I mean? Yeah. If you kind of laid it all out and was like, these are the reasons why I think he should go.
17:39I think if someone did that, I think it'd be quite hard to argue against that. But also I've got no problem with people that want to stick it out and give him time because that probably is the right thing to do. It's just that I'm with you. I can't do this anymore. I can't do this anymore. Quickly, if you ever interrupt Ricky again like that when he's about to speak. Sorry, Ricky. Sorry. That'll be the end of you. I respect everything you've built and you're a cherished member of the podcast. If that happens again, I'm sorry. That's done. All right. I'm sorry. In my defense... I didn't apologize.
18:13Never apologize. Never apologize. I'm going to... Cut through me all at the same time. I thought it was a 50-50. I just went slightly over the top of the bottle. We had more commitment. Ricky, you did back down quite quickly. What I would say would have been terrible if neither of you backed down and just made your entire point without the other person. No, go on, Ricky. You can speak now. It's fine. I was quite cut like after after the game got home on a Saturday night at like quarter to 12 freezing cold having watched that come through the result um going on social media to catch up and then seeing everything I'm like for fuck's sake Sunday morning wake up feel a little bit better and just like kind of try and chalk it off and go back through it to see what what went wrong and then you've got Chelsea-Arsenal and it's like, right, okay, Saliba's not playing.
19:12Maybe something might happen. 1-0, okay, that makes me feel a little bit better. This morning I got up, went on Google and then a little pop-up came up and it said, Tottenham are playing Newcastle away tomorrow. And I was like, for fuck's sake! I made a little... Fucking hell! I was sitting on the sofa chuckling to myself. I made a little meme last night. That was good. Yeah, it's exactly how I feel. What do you mean we're playing Tuesday? I just need a break. Who are we playing? All right, okay, fine. We're playing. Who are we playing? Newcastle away. I don't want that. I don't want that. Why are we playing Newcastle away?
19:47Two, three days after we've just been full of my own. I read something funny as well. It says, tough place to go, Tottenham. For Tottenham. It's a tough place to go and play football, Tottenham. I feel like these are arguably the next week of maybe the worst two games that Frank could have asked for, really. because we're going away tomorrow to a ground that we never win and always kind of just get turned over. So there's no expectation there whatsoever. And then you've got to face your old club on Saturday at home in exactly the sort of game where we've really struggled this season. Won one game at home.
20:21Brentford are, in relative terms, flying under Keith Andrews. They're doing basically as well as they were under Frank. They're above us in the league. And if that is the game that we lose, and that puts the nail in his coffin, or that might be the narrative after, I don't think you could have picked a worse two set of fixtures to almost have this week. Because if we lose at home to Brentford, could you imagine what it'll be like? It's like, well, maybe actually... The narrative will go spin even further to the point where it's like, well, actually, was he even that important for Brentford? He's just been done in by someone that's just taken over who was his set piece coach.
20:52And all that kind of stuff, it's like... Mate, can I read you something out? Just because it's pertinent to what you just said. I spoke to my mate, Adam Rosenbaum. He was on the podcast when we signed Frank and he was telling us what we could expect. And I sent him a message saying, are you surprised by what's happening at Spurs? And he said, yeah, I am. I'm very surprised. The lack of inventiveness and the inability to create chances isn't something that we struggle with. He thinks it was massively about Mbwemo and Vissa that we just don't have two players of that quality. So this is a message that's come through from Brentford fans.
21:29There's nothing but love for Frank, club legend responsible for the greatest days i've ever had watching football every week it becomes clearer that he wasn't necessarily the secret ingredient the whole system clicks from top to bottom the only way it is to fail is if we remove benham and that's not to say that we are we overrated him we didn't the bloke's amazing but if removing him our captain and two third two of our three record goal scorers isn't enough for us to lose a step then there's simply something bigger than all of them combined at play. I mean, that's perfect. I mean, that's exactly right.
22:06You know, he's saying that they have fail-safes involved because very intelligent people run Brentford. Same with Brighton. He met all the talent that Brighton's lost for years, tons of it, but they've got Tony Bloom at the top who just won't allow this thing to fall apart because the most important person out of football club is the owner or the director. so it like getting rid of frank may be an option but perhaps this the the kind of the sacking or removal of daniel levy whether you like him or not he's going to have seismic impact on the club you don't just remove a club that is institutionalized by a single person and then to remove that person then not be some sort of fallout i'm not suggesting that this isn't about thomas frank's tactics by the way i'm just saying that the shift from what we hope the club will what we ended up despising the club for being to the to the one that we hope that it can be in terms of delivering on on pitch glory that's going to take time and it's going to take transfer windows and what they've got at brentford and uh brighton is is a setup that can deal with all of this stuff.
23:19I had Brentford going down because of Keith Andrews' lack of, you know. 24:42Exclusions apply. See homekeeper.com slash price match for details. Are all batteries the same? That's like asking if all soccer players are the same. Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that? No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with power boost ingredients inside? No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different. And Messi only trusts Duracell. Experience managing at this level. He was a set-piece coach. He was their set-piece coach. And now he has a better record or an equal record to Thomas Frank.
25:25and now he's better and with lesser players he's above us in the league yeah and it's not just they're above us in the league I think they are actually in pretty much either the same position or actually in a better position than they were at this point last season as well Keith Andrews in give a little swap get him back we kept him we still got the receipt we Ricky there has been a shift you know we work with fanalysis sorry we work with fan narrative and they produce us talking points and content for us to potentially pick apart and one of the things they do is they gauge the supporter opinion on whether a manager is in and out right so after the arsenal game the it was 38 percent uh frank out and about 62 percent frank in what do you think it is today after losing to PSG and for them oh dear uh I would say I'm probably going to go about 55 55 it's not that high Ben okay as in are you saying 55 % out Or 55 % in?
26:54Yeah, what are you saying? I think... And it's not as high... Sorry, did you mean 55 % isn't out, though? That's what I'm saying. If you're saying it's not that high, I'm trying to gauge. It's 5 % out. I reckon maybe if it's not that high, then 40%, maybe? 48%. Nearly half of all Spurs fans want Frank gone already. Right, yeah. It does feel like there's been a big swing after... I don't think anybody after PSG... PSG wouldn't have changed anything. No. Either way. I think it's... Like I said before, I think it's... this was the game that I earmarked as just like, okay, PSG, you delivered a good performance.
27:28I don't really have that many doubts about you in the bigger games because I know you can kind of set up and punch up. Although we didn't see that against Arsenal and that kind of made PSG a bit more frustrating in the way in that we didn't approach the game in a similar manner at least. But like, it's these games, it's Fulham, it's Brentford. It's these kind of ones where it's like, that's where we've been really, really struggling. And that's where he's struggling to become the aggressor rather than someone that's kind of punching up, like you're struggling to be the dominant team. I was sitting with my old man, as I always do, watching the football.
28:00And he was like, this is no good, girl. And I was like, I know, I know. He goes, what do you want me to say? I was like, I don't know. I'm just processing, right? I'm angry. I don't want to lash out. So I'm just going to be quiet. And he went, just never got rid of Ange. And I'm like, you fucker. like literally last last year when we drew to all brentford you said he's never gonna work he's never gonna work and now you said we should have given him another year dad another year last week you're selling romero and bringing in vuscovic this week he wants ang back he's all over the place we're all all over the place is the thing is what's happened i don't think like we know we're not rational we're human beings anymore we just don't know what the right we're just scrabbling around hopefully someone sorts it out and gets the right man in some people can get Pochettino back yeah it kind of feels like something like that that might fix everything I don't know let's go from one brilliant subject to another in our fans booing one of our own players and our manager and players calling them not fans basically true Spurs fans would never have done that categorically as we've said and we talked about this at length yesterday my position is I can't understand booing a player because he made a mistake, he did not intend to fuck up that badly, he did don't get me wrong, it is awful an awful mistake, just put it out of touch
29:38but I've never in my experience of going to Spurs since I was a kid have I ever seen us boo a player because he made a mistake. I've seen us boo players, our own players before, like Hassam Ghali, for example, when he threw the shirt at Martin Yor. I was there. I was booing. Boo! Boo, Hassam. Boo. And he came back, I think. But Vicario didn't mean to do it. So in his first touch to boo him, I don't – it's something I can't agree with at all. That was my issue. Ben at the top of his lungs was just going Boo! Boo! The stadium was vibrating because of Ben's booze. Yeah, bellowing Ben. Bellowing Ben.
30:27Right at the back of the south stand. Boo! You know the meme of the seagull where it's like, fuck him! At the top of the south stand just leading everyone. I actually didn't I didn't boo right I didn't boo I just everyone's saying they didn't boo by the way but you could definitely hear you could hear oh no no yeah yeah Rick did you boo? no I never never boo never ever boo at home players someone did Rick I could hear it you were saying you weren't a part of it 10 ,000 people did by the sounds of it don't get me wrong I lost my fucking head yeah yeah lost my fucking head honestly um because i normally i'm like i'm joining in with the songs and i'm quite reserved but it builds and it builds and then when something it could be something quite small but it's you know it's a straw that breaks the camel's back and then when that happened i fucking lost my head i had my daughter with me and she would have seen fuck oh god god knows what she saw her old old man going absolutely mental dad but uh yeah it it was bad it was bad and the i said i said to my daughter the amount of the amount of uh people shouting cunt in the south stand and this isn't me like oh i've got my young daughter but i said i leaned over to her and i goes um how many times do you think you've heard the c word today she goes genuinely about 600 times everything was cunt there's cunt that cunt you cunt keep the cunt in ball you cunt i was just like fucking hell that's when you know everyone just lost it in it everyone is their proper head loss that was it social decorum and just in the gut yeah and then you know and then there was like needle in the stands as well like that there was some lads behind me and And obviously they were shouting cunts quite a lot.
32:37They were like, obviously displeased, and it was aimed at Vicario. And then the ref was there, and the ref, as he usually does, is passive aggressive. He shouts stuff out. He's looking at the pitch, but he says it loud enough so everyone can hear. People don't know who the ref is. They might not know. The ref is a gentleman that sits in the self-stand. Yeah, he sits in front of me. And from my knowledge, I think he markets himself as a semi-professional referee, ex-referee. So he knows the game better than anyone. Right. I've played the game. But if there is any negativity towards any players or the team, and even Daniel Levy, he was like stuck up for him anyway.
33:25So the Kyra was getting a lot of shit. and all you heard was the ref go, how many caps have you got for Italy then? Get your caps out. I haven't seen your caps. He's not looking back at them, shouting at them. He's saying it in front, so there's no confrontation. How many caps have you got then? When did you last play for Italy? Fucking hell, it's kicking off down here, boys.
33:52I wouldn't mind it, by the way. Vicario was clearly Italy's number one goalkeeper, but he's not he played about five games really which is more than Will ever do so he's got a point but it's like fucking hell I don't I don't understand why he what is explain to me Ben right so I'd get that it means that the sentiment was already there for Vicario for that yeah because the one mistake wasn't worthy of the booing right it cannot be so there was this in thousands of people a preloaded idea or feeling about Vicario based on his performance that he's had previously. What, did he deserve that? I think there's a multitude of factors.
34:35I also think, yeah, it is a mistake, but it is 1 million percent the worst one he's ever made. Yes. And he's made quite a few. And I'm not saying that he hasn't kept us in games, certainly this season or in the past few seasons, because he definitely has as well. Gomez would literally, literally pick the ball up and throw it into his own net sometimes. Yeah. The worst one Gomez ever did was the one against Blackpool where he gave a penalty away by coming flying out. The striker went round him and he clattered him. He then saved the penalty and then from the rebound, the striker went to follow it up and he gave another penalty away.
35:10It was either that or Stoke where he started crying. No, he cried because Stoke just kept bombarding him. He can't go in long time. In the end, he was just in tears. This is a man we got behind. yeah well this is a man we vicario ain't got a song he had a song about i'd let you shag my wife yeah yeah exactly every single time do you remember when he used to do the
35:37football so simple then yeah it was a different time but i think it's it's definitely the worst one he's ever made and it was kind of i think it was the circumstances have already been yeah we were already 1-0 down we considered a goal about two minutes before and I think part of the reason that people did it to Vicario is because and I do like him but he does that classic thing of like it's always someone else's fault like he started throwing his arms up at people after he'd made one of the worst goalkeeping mistakes you'll see all season so I think people were on him for that maybe although when you do watch it back I don't know what the hell the three defenders are doing in the box no one's going to cover the line but Vicario wasn't exactly sprinting back either.
36:19I saw a video yesterday of David Ryder where he went up for a corner last season for Arsenal in the last minute and West Ham looked to break and literally the way he sprints back to win the ball back himself I'm like well why did Vicario not do that? Like he was jogging back towards the goal so I think that's part of it as well but I don't and also like I don't know I was gonna say there's been a build-up to it with other mistakes but they've not been this bad they just haven't i just think that was one of the that is one of the worst goalkeeping cock-ups i think i've ever seen at spurs especially in the context of already being one nil down literally a minute before and you could have literally just kicked it out and then sprint back to your goal i did it was it was so bad i don't agree with singling one player out but also i don't necessarily have that much of an issue with the people that actually did it i wouldn't do it personally you keep saying stuff like this Ben right you keep going I wouldn't do it but I wouldn't I didn't do it I don't mind other people doing it if I did it I wouldn't have made a difference I'm the complete other end of the ground he's not gonna hear me I'll be on my own if I was doing it there but yeah I don't I don't I think it also the thing I don't like is it's actually become a bit more of a distraction from what the actual issues are at Spurs yeah like that's that's the thing that irritates me is that like we're talking more about I'm not talking about this podcast but like generally the con the conversation the fan base over the last like 24 hours has basically all been about this and frank coming out and saying not true topman fans i don't think he should have said that i've not got a problem here defending the players but i don't think he should have said that that's and then and then poro comes out and says and he does what he does after the game that felt a little bit performative to me like maybe i'm being a bit harsh but i don't it's just become a bit of a distraction from what the actual issues are at spurs which is we're not playing good football we're not winning games and we don't even look like winning these sorts of games at home so you can understand fans' frustration boiling over in the way that it did single out an individual player is harsh but I don't think I can really necessarily get on some too much for that I think there's a few things at play which um where the fans' frustration is coming from obviously that mistake was horrendous we're 2-0 down and fucking how how much time's gone six minutes or something like that we we i think i don't think i've seen us win at home in the league this season i miss burnley because i was on holiday apart from that not seeing us win so it's fucking absolutely galling that having to go there and we'll just lose week in week out but i think one of the things that is sticking in the throat of fans and where the frustration comes from is this season the club brought in that you could have your crn number and you could have it for free and you could transfer tickets and now you have to pay to be able to have that privilege so if you want to transfer your ticket across to someone else they have to pay to become a member to be able to receive a free ticket so there's the ticketing issues like that also when my so my dad he has a senior season ticket my daughter is a junior member to transfer the ticket should be a straightforward thing i had to pay 15 pound extra to upgrade her ticket to an adult ticket so that she can't and it's like we are paying through the nose for tickets there were empty seats everywhere like we're going there on a saturday night all these like things that have come together and then that calamitous kind of down it two nil vicario doing that and i just think he brought the brunt of it really there was a lot of uh ill feeling towards the club uh and the way that they've gone around certain ticketing issues ticket prices all of that stuff and people are so fucked off i'm incredibly fucked off you know when i had to pay that 15 pounds for my daughter's ticket even though that i actually think junior tickets are cheaper than senior tickets so forwarding over shouldn't have been a problem but then i had to pay more money to for my daughter to go and it's like waiting for this opportunity when you were to crowbar your ticket issue into the podcast somehow mate trust me you wouldn't you will i've got the you know my finger on the pulse of fans and fan culture at Tottenham, right?
40:45This is, we're at boiling point here. It's going to spill over, right? The ref's like, you don't know what it's like though for those people in the ticket office, you have to deal with this shit. You wouldn't understand it. Where's your ticket initially, Rick? Ricky, no, you're right. All these things chip away. They chip away at your contentment. And what I would say is that all of these things will be a hangover from the previous administration. Yep. And there's got a lot of work that Venkatesham and the new board have to do in order to make the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium a happier place to be.

41:26It needs to start with winning fucking football matches and playing football in a certain way. But it also needs to be including fans into or making us feel like we belong to this football club rather than just being customers of it. Yeah. Why should you need to pay? You had to get a new membership? No, no. I've already paid for a junior membership, so I had to pay£15 extra to transfer. So there's an admin fee of£15? Yeah. Is that what it is? I don't know why I had to pay him. It's absolutely insane. But whatever way, you had to pay£15 to transfer the ticket? Yeah. And was there any work involved in that from the club?
42:06Not that I'm aware of. Are you doing the transfer? Yes, I'm doing the transfer and then putting my bank card in and then paying the money. All right, so there is something, work being done on the club side then. What,£15 worth? I'm not offending the club, Rick. I'm just trying to think about what they, maybe£15 worth, if you want to be like that.
42:30And then to go and lose. Yeah, and paying all that fucking, the amount of people, like fans are paying for and then to go and be served up that and i get it right like you you pay your money you can't expect us to be playing scintillating football week in week out but when it's like the performance against chelsea the performance against the gooners and now this and it's just like it just compounds it even more and then you've got the caro's mistake and then you've got we're 2-0 down and then you've got it's fucking 8 o 'clock on a Saturday night. It's freezing cold. It's like fucking hell, man.
43:10Just, I just want to feel good. And I'm just, I don't know where to direct my anger and hate. Right, you've just kicked the ball and you've passed it to the other team. You're fucking getting it. Yeah. You take this. It's not the first time it's happened either, is it? Gemini and Chrome is here for it. Ready to make anything online make sense? There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required, compatibility and availability varies 18+. Spooky said it, didn't he? We have done this before with Dyer and Sanchez, but that was arguably worse when it was like sarcastically cheering when they made a five-yard pass. It's like, that's slightly more humiliating, isn't it?
45:01It's the same with Lloris as well. Like, he'd go up to catch it and people would be, hey, he's finally a court. He's our captain. He's won a World Cup. You've drunk eight pints today. This is a good moment to take a quick break because we've got a sponsor for this podcast called Saley. It's Christmas season, isn't it? And if you're traveling soon, then you might need an eSIM from the creators of NordVPN. It gives you an instant, affordable mobile internet in 190 countries. No waiting in the airport kiosks, no sketchy SIM sellers. Once downloaded to your phone, you just choose a plan. You're connected the moment you land.
45:40Everyone knows, though, when you go to Spain or wherever it might be, especially now we've left the EU, that you just get thumps with these sort of data charges. and eSIM will prevent that from happening because you have your plan set up before you even leave the country and it kicks into gear the minute you land wherever it is you land. So there's also privacy and web protection built into the app so you never have to worry about your DLs being nicked or anything like that. So you can get 15 % off of your eSIM today and the code is, sorry, 15 % off your eSIM today. Download the app or visit salie.com forward slash the fighting cock and use the code the fighting cock at checkout.
46:25What I was going to say, Flav, our boy Wes from Tennessee went to, I think he went to Cambodia on holiday. He did the Salie app, did the TFC thing, the code. He said it was fucking brilliant. There you go. There you go. Fucking brilliant. direct quote from wes from wes i know a few people that are traveling around and and uh they've done it based on previous uh reads we do with salie um so if you're going to be moving around you want to save a bit of money and know you keep your phone secure and safe then use the salie e sim app and use the code the fighting cock to get 15 off uh i've got a question here from paul paul's beer reviews i think by that he has an instagram account where he reviews beers but i might be wrong anyway don't give him a follow one is enough enough i've supported spurs for over 30 years and apart from a lovely couple of weeks in the summer i've never felt so disconnected from the club i'm finding myself enjoying ice hockey of all things lately i get to enjoy the sport with my wife and kid and it's a lot cheaper to follow is there a sport are you i'm presuming you're in the uk you're following ice hockey instead of going i mean i i get being frustrated but going to watch ice hockey yeah where who you used to play a bit ice hockey didn't you rick if i remember for the mk jackuars or something mk kings i didn't play i trained i trained for uh to first of all i had to get my skating grades up and then it was too hard and it was freezing cold in the ice room and i was like fuck this but when tottenham played away my dad would take me to go and watch mk kings I think he's short as than your dad Spurs Spurs are away today boy so I'll take you down the ice rink I mean how many people must have been watching that about 50 no about maybe 2 ,000 I think really yeah yeah yeah that play alright anyway so he's enjoying himself he's enjoying some ice hockey of all things lately I get to enjoy the sport with my wife and it's a lot cheaper to follow is there a sport you lads can fall back on when Spurs just do do your head in I mean Ben, the answer is no.
48:37And why is the answer no? Because we've got to watch England play in the second test on Thursday morning. Yes. What happened in the first test? We got beat within two days after throwing away one of the best opportunities to ever win in Australia. It's literally like watching Tottenham. I've never, ever... My history in cricket, in Test match cricket, is obviously going to be somewhat limited. I can't remember a team capitulating in two days. I don't remember that ever happening. And we've been talking it up. I'm going, yeah, I'm in the ashes. I know we're going to get beat. But in the back of your mind, you're thinking, oh, well, we could do this.
49:12We could do this. We've got a strong attack. We've got two best batters in the world. Obviously not. Obviously not. Anything good that we possibly might want our teams to deliver, it just doesn't. Every boxer I follow seems to fail. And I'd shout out to the performance, Sam Gilley, you might be listening to this podcast. He does listen to it. big Spurs fan he was on the undercard for Eubank and Ben he put in a great fight and uh it was just 12 rounds of war and I looked at him like regardless of the result he ended up losing on points but regardless of the result he'd done us proud and it was an incredible result but I was so because we'd interviewed him on the podcast I was so invested in this fight I was sat down and made my dad my dad sort of likes boxing we sat down he goes my dad put a box on he's like it's 5.30?
50:03It's not till 10. I was like, I know, but we're going to watch Sam Gilley. He's a Spurs fan. Anyway, yeah, he left it all in there. So it's just another, you know, I was just disappointed. It was like, just one of them things. So I don't know the answer, Paul. Have you got on, Rick? Do you fall back on anything? No, no. I mean, fishing. I go fishing a lot. So it's not like I follow anything. Have you ever gone fishing and thought about Spurs in just a single tier? just rolls if it ever just rolls down yeah well i well when i do i just i get the hook in my finger and just drive it into my fingertip because you know just to release some kind of pressure fuck's sake man but uh more often than not no i try not to think of those rotten bastards so let me down it's hell um matt elson says my question as a long-suffering spurs fan that saw us in the 90s is why is the club's fan base stuck in a revolving door of second coach after a few bad results?
51:05Surely they need time to work through what it is he's dealing with at least a season at the very least. That's Matt from Milton Keynes, Rick. Oh, Matty. Do you know him? Yeah. The one person called Matt who supports Tottenham lives in Milton Keynes. No, well, lives down my street. He's different from the Kings as well. how uh how do how do you think this plays out if you had to guess like come christmas day is frank in the job at spurs or is he out ben you go first i think he's in the job still i think they'll give him a while i do um but obviously we've got the run of fixtures up until christmas we've got newcastle away we've got brentford at home then it's forest away Liverpool at home and then when we go to Brentford again just after Christmas I think Palace away maybe as well I still think he'll probably be in the job to be honest but I don't know things can change very quickly I feel like obviously the board if the managerial market was a little bit better and almost like you know when we got rid of Nuno and there was just a Conte was like the fail kind of safe option it was like he was just there it was just like the backup plan oh let's get Parachi back on the phone to him and offering more money basically than we did in the summer there's no real option like that to be honest um unless there's maybe a surprise sacking or something like that that you could go he would be a good opportunity for us to pursue um i think because vin i sort of came in in the summer and obviously he was very involved with getting him in and it's kind of his first summer being in charge it's like would they want to admit they were wrong on like their guy i don't know this quickly I'm not sure but things things can get dark in terms of the table very quickly if you look where we are right now it's like they can go upwards quickly as well if we get two wins then we're backing it around the top four if we lose these next two games it can get pretty dark again going into Christmas Vague Contession did claim part responsibility for bringing Thomas Frank in as well if you remember that's what I mean yeah it's like it's his they can't really just push it aside as like well it was Levy's last hurrah and like the new board, the new make-up, the new structure will kind of take us forward with a different person and sort of almost blame it on Levy because Vinay was as involved, more involved than Levy on getting this one over the line.
53:33So, yeah. And Lang as well, who they've then gone and promoted obviously to co-director of football, whatever it was, with Paratichi. I think Paratichi's weird comments going, you know, my footballing philosophy is whoever the coach is, which is in a way has to be to some degree, but it should be the footballing direction should come from, from the sporting direction. Yeah. And you appoint a coach that is in keeping with what you want to do as a football club. Yeah. And, and sort of are Paratici and Langer's footballing philosophies aligned? I mean, as far as I understand it, Frank is a sort of manager that Paratici would like in terms of the defensive based.
54:15I don't know where I keep, I keep saying that and I believe it to be true, but I can't remember where I heard it do you think you're just saying that though because he appointed Conte and Nuno which may yeah and Nuno but obviously Nuno was the bottom of the pile wasn't he he was like and this is why like I feel like Frank is just 8th choice maybe less 12th and he turns up hello I'm gonna make him proud well if you when you think back to when Nuno said I'm gonna make you so so proud so so proud what's the difference between that and Frank coming out and going to not take risk is to also take risks and we're going to be brave and all this kind of stuff.
54:50It's like, I know we always get sucked in, but we just need to stop listening to what these managers are saying. But we all get sucked in and it's part of it. But I was so reticent to kind of be like, oh no, he's just another Nuno and all this kind of stuff. But I think he just might be, Frank. I just think he might be. I hope I'm wrong, but... Oh, another Nuno. Shit, we. I think he might. I genuinely think he might be. But I don't know. Can he scale it up to a... I thought he would be so much better than this in terms of scaling up to a bigger club with more expectations. He's been interviewed by the likes of Man United, Liverpool, Chelsea.
55:26He obviously didn't get those jobs, but I feel like he was seen in a different calibre to maybe what Nuno was at the time. But he's had a lot of the same issues and he's had arguably the best transfer window that any Spurs manager has had in my life in terms of like four starting quality players. I'm not saying we filled every single hole because we didn't. Like we didn't. We probably needed a few more, but I just, I'm struggling to find sort of reasons to believe. And also like, I'm thinking about this yesterday. What the hell would he have said to Javi Simmons in that sort of meeting where he convinced him to join Tottenham?
56:04Because he's come out and said today like, oh, it's still, he's not starting the last three games. It's all about adapting, blah, blah, blah. It's like, how is he going to adapt if he's not playing? I don't, that situation baffles me I want him on the pitch yeah I think we all do it's bizarre absolutely mental we've got so we've got I think you mentioned a couple of times Newcastle away and then we lose to Brentford at home if we lose both those games I don't know how that's five on the bounce has anyone survived that really? he's got to go bud yeah I know you're being much more sensible and pragmatic, Rick, and putting that position.
56:47That's where I think post-people should be at this stage. But what if it does lose five on the bounce? I mean, it's going to be fucking very, very hard to take. Slavia Prague doesn't count. Everyone should be beating Slavia Prague at home. So then you've got to go to Forest away. oh god free every game with the prems hard they're all hard and then liverpool okay good i know i'm reaching here a bit uh but it's the only thing to make me feel better about supporting tottenham um and yeah if he does lose those two it's it's going to be even more bumpier ride I think he'll go past Christmas like we we brought Frank in we brought Cochran in we brought I don't know like conditioning coaches from Brentford and that little analyst kid brought him in all the backroom stuff and then Langer's promoted Paratici's back the board has had a bit of a shuffle all this stuff takes time to settle and i know that doesn't have a direct impact on the team and how they're playing but i think it does have an impact um on everyone finding their feet and and pulling in the same direction and understanding what our philosophy is and what we need to where we need to be moving and all these different things so i'm willing to kind of give it more time they say like when you start a new job on on average it takes three months to acclimatize yourself and feel a bit more comfortable with what you're doing well it's sort of like if you're going from sainsbury's to tesco yeah maybe i mean they've got different different prices for starters gotta learn the prices yeah and doing it at a club like tottenham where you are just under the spotlight and there is no way out and you can't you can't have a couple of games losing it's not like Brentford where that's accepted so I just I don't know man it's the only thing I can put my hat on to be like it's going to get even more bumpy but we'll come out the other side good from this it can't go on like this surely can it?
59:22It can.

We start with Ricky’s legendary spaghetti bolognese portions, garlic bread as cutlery, before sinking back into the misery of Spurs. We get into Frank in vs Frank out, the booing of Vicario, ticket prices, Fan Narrative numbers, feeling gaslit by the club and why so many of us feel completely done in by this team. There is talk of ice hockey affairs, England collapsing in two days and a bit on how Brentford and Brighton are run compared to us.
