In short

Tottenham’s convincing win over Brentford, with heavy focus on Xavi Simons’ breakout (goal + assist), team intensity, and whether manager Thomas Frank should be kept (“Frank up” vs “Frank out”). They also discuss rivalry banter (Arsenal/Spurs), fan mood, and several player performances (Bentancur, Porro, Vicario, Spence, Archie Gray, Kudus).

Guest backgrounds

No guests are identified as specific external people; it’s a multi-host fan podcast with recurring speakers (e.g., “T”, “Flav”, “Cal”, “Spooky”, “Ricky”). One sponsor-read host (“Bill Simmons” mention) is unrelated to the episode’s football discussion.

Key claims

Spurs played with higher intensity and pressing, winning the ball back quickly; Xavi Simons’ confidence and work rate changed Brentford’s game plan; Bentancur’s return to form was crucial; Porro’s performance redeemed earlier criticism; Thomas Frank should be backed through the season after this performance.

Notable examples

Xavi Simons involved in both first-half goals; Richarlison’s finish and running; Jed Spence repeatedly beating defenders on the byline; fan reaction metrics (Fan Narrative): 53% excited/happy, 29% relieved/optimistic; XG cited as 2.2 (2.88 on target) with 16 shots and 9 on target.

1:39It's the fight in. It's the fight in. Cock It's a fighting

1:51It's a fighting Cock Camel Did you say before recording that you just better get your stats up or something? I've never heard you talk like that No I know I was I do this thing I think out loud when I'm at work I'm just sat there at work What are these stats? What are these stats? Nine shots on target What? I've got a fucking diamond cutter. Just reading them, you know. Look at it. 16 shots, 9 shots on target. 404 passes. Where's the XG? The XG's not even here. Fucking bullshit. 2.2. I'll tell you what it is because I looked it up. 2.2. 2.2 XG. Are we having a laugh? We are XG. XG on target, you know.

2:392.88 XG on target. Do you know how I think? Oh. God. Did you know what some guy said behind us? T heard it as well, because me and T were sat together yesterday at the game. Some guy goes, it's like watching Prime Barcelona.

2:58I was looking at it and I was going, that's a shot on target. That's another shot on target. And I wasn't even thinking about winning. I was just wanting to see some sort of change in the attitude into the play. I needed something from Tottenham. I needed something from Frank. And that was something. That was something. And, you know, look, that is one game. We're not going to get carried away, but we should be allowed to celebrate and feel good. It's lovely to come away from a Saturday, going into a Saturday evening, having seen Arsenal's heartbreak in the last minute. I was watching that in a pub with my old man.

3:37There was no one in there. This pub is going down the drain. It's the shittest pub on earth, right? They're trying hard. They can't pour a pint of Guinness. and their fucking Sunday Roses dog meat. Literally. But they have got the biggest TV screens I've ever seen in my life. And there's just me and my old man in there and Buendia pops up. Pops up? Pops up. And we're both jumping up, celebrating, holding each other. And some might say that's pathetic. You know, some might say that's, you know, they're living rent-free in my head. I don't deny it. They do. All day, every day. And when a little bit of misery is inflicted upon them, the heartbreak the tears the anger is Arteta the one is he the one all that stuff feels even better when they live rent free in my head I don't want to start by talking about arsehole but I'm so fucking happy I think you should you should it's a good jump off because it was me Cal and Spooky walking to walking down Seven Sisters Road to the stadium down the high road and as we got past the Berlin Herr I won't call it the number eight we walked past us as they scored and it's just absolute bedlam in the pub but we're just outside like, I guess Arsenal have lost.

4:45It's absolutely beautiful. Perfect start for the day, wasn't it? Perfect start. It was glorious. And Friday night was a World Cup draw. So obviously England and Scotland get their teams that they're playing and Scotland are saying, England are being arrogant by doing a graphic of who they'll have to face to reach the final. And England are saying, Scotland would rather England lose than me. And I'm like, yeah, good. Yeah. That's the way it should be. That's what the fucking rivalry is. early event free in your head. Of course you do. I fucking hate you. I want all the bad things in life to happen to you and only you because all season their fans have been given it and I mean what they got, they beat us.

5:22Actually this brings me to another point. So they beat us I mean Dr. Tottenham. Eze gets a hat trick. I don't think Eze has completed the 90s since they beat us as well. So that's one thing. But it's like Dr. Tottenham gave them their three points. Hat trick 4-1. But it's like we injected them with a slow acting disease. So, you know, they came away from the game and were all happy. Then the next two games, one point from six. One point from six in the next two games. So Dr. Tottenham just gave me a little Harry Shipman. You're welcome. In the calf. Thank you. See you, Doris. Half those brooches, yoink.

6:00I like that frock.

6:05I wear those nickies on my head. I mean, enough time's passed. Enough time's passed. I think it's fine. Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's fine. I'll give you another stat. Richarlison has scored 17 goals in his last 24 Premier League starts for Spurs. That can't be right. That can't be right. It can't be. Someone debunk it, please. It comes from an account literally called Statman Dave. I know Dave. I know him well. His reputation lives and dies on the statistics that he gives. Like, literally. Hundreds of thousands of subscribers on YouTube. he wouldn't get this wrong. And I'm not going to, I don't give a shit enough to find out if it's wrong or right.

6:42Right. So we're trusting to that man, David and he's saying 17 goals and 24 starts. And that was a good finish. I know it was, I know people look at it. It was a tap in, but the way that ball bounced up, it hit him kind of on the ankle. That was one of them that could go wide, go over. That was a good finish. Like, and, and you know what? Yesterday, the amount of grief, probably all three of us have given him over the last six, well, pretty much his whole Spurs career. but yesterday he ran and ran and ran and after 80 minutes he was absolutely dead on his feet. He gave everything for the shirt yesterday and for himself and I thought he took that goal really well.

7:21Fair play to him. I think it speaks to his self-belief as well because I don't think any of us have ever criticised his effort that he's put in. He's always tried hard, even if he's been out of position. Back to the defenders, 2-6-5 centre-backs, clearing everything over him and he still keeps going. It's not about his heart. It's more just, you know, the quality. But as Cal said, he could have easily have rushed at that finish, but it took it calmly and fair play to him. I mean, we, we know we're near apologising, are we? Never. I mean, you can't say never, Cal. You can't, this isn't a healthy way to live your life.

7:58Ever admit. Don't, what about me is healthy? I go to Costco three days a week. to eat more hot dogs there's nothing healthy about me my mind or my body

8:13cal last week went i've just had a i've had a little cut so this is all let's let's just let people in a little bit right um i was talking to cal about two years ago and i was like you're ready to do a pod and you went i'll hold on a minute i'm just having some lunch i don't know what you have in trying to make chit chat and he just posts a picture of the shittiest little hot dog on a plate on his own right i'm like what are you eight years old having a hot dog for lunch it's like half past 12 in the day and he's got a hot dog for lunch now every time i see a hot dog i think a cow it turns out he's going to costco every two minutes fucking eat ordinary hot dogs my brother he doesn't work bless him he's kind of a house husband he's got two two kids and one of them's really young and he's just bored and he'll go costco suddenly we're down there at 10 30

9:07can i i've never been to a costco my entire life i don't know what you get there we're going really we're going for an hour and we're going i don't want to go for a fucking hour into costco i mean i've got better things to do than that um no i'd love it i'd love a little break like that to be yeah mate it was it was really satisfying to win a game of football but win one convincingly that you walk away from and go yeah we deserve that and there will be some people saying and T you made a point last night and I'd had a couple of glasses of wine and I was like fuck you T why don't you go fuck yourself T you'd be right you know what I'm talking about as well yes Brentford were shit they fucking were They were fucking nuts.

9:53We made them look bad. Why, yeah. Why can't we just enjoy it? Why do we have to caveat our success all the time? But you see, Flav, this is a bit of a continuation of our fans being the unhappiest in the country. You know, everyone's celebrating. I'm like, no, you're not too happy. Let me just throw a grenade in. Just to level us off. And I was like, well, no, actually, I don't know. When I checked the league before we played, we were above them. So, no, they were above us, rather, which makes much more sense uh i had a message in just just to add to your point here t about spurs fans being the most unhappy bunch on earth and it was from a um i know called clive shipman and he's been uh beat the supporter of the fight for a long long time and he just said why am i still not happy and i just said you're dead inside clive uh he uh yeah look but i i am i'm happy i'm happy with that first half performance i'm happy with the overall uh moments don't get me wrong the kind of ptsd of of being spurs over the last couple of years meant i didn't really feel safe although when you actually look at the game back i watched extended highlights this morning we were fine there was very little to worry about there was one moment in transition in the first half where Brentford easily went through our press and then I think, I can't remember who the midfielder was just in acres of space might have been Damsgaard and that was it there was a little mix up where Thiago got an opportunity to shoot in the first half and the second half half chances and it felt really controlled but dangerous as well it just felt like there was a different feeling about them.

11:39They're reacting to Vicario being booed. They're reacting to the frustrations. And that's what they're supposed to do. And there's nothing wrong with applauding them by reacting to it. They look together. They look like they wanted to be out there. They wanted to be in front of that crowd. And you could see the reaction from the supporters. You were there, right? You were in the stadium. So was Ricky, right? And Spooky was as well. I'd imagine you felt that energy and imagine that the part of the noise that you could hear in the stadium was in reaction to the challenges that were going in the willingness to get forward is that am i accurate or all it i do want to talk about ricky at some point gonti sorry i don't want to talk about fucking mr celebrity well i want to do it at the end well just remember to do it but yeah yeah i will but ricky was in the same but reacting but you're now the fans were well into it and um And I feel that if at least nine of our players are playing seven out of ten or more, we beat a lot of the sides in the league.

12:41And I think at least ten of our players were above seven out of ten yesterday. And yeah, I think a lot of the reaction was from winning the ball back. You know, there's a lot of teams who do a training drill where, you know, once you've lost a ball, you've got to win it back in three seconds. And obviously, I think Thomas Frank made a point that, you know, during the week, you know, they trained really well. And I think you could see it in the game. There's a lot of nice movements. I mean, Cal mentioned the bloke saying it was like prime Barcelona. There were some moves where, even for the Richarlison goal, that was a good move that brought that goal about.

13:16Yeah, Poro sort of curling the ball down the right-hand side from that run that Simmons made. Just superb, wasn't it? And then he put the ball across. But yeah, it was a great, great move. Yeah, and then, you know, with Ange, we had those goals every week. I don't have to admit, Ange goals were really good. But it was nice to see that from us. And it's been a rough week. I think every time, I mean, John said last night, I thought they'd return the corner. And it feels like that every time we do well, I just thought that bad happens. But yesterday it did feel like, it really did, I have to agree with John, it did feel like something changed in the stadium and Xavi getting the goal.

13:52And even the way in which he took the goal, he could easily have snatched it because there's been a lot of talk about his time at Tottenham so far and he's had, was it, 12 games and one assist no goals or nothing. And even when he got the assist for the Richarlison goal, more people are celebrating of him than Richarlison. And then when he scored his goal, all the players are around him and there's a lot, there's a massive togetherness. And I think that when something like the Fulham game happens where Poirot's having a go at their fans and Vicara's apologetic, these sort of things kind of, I don't think it can go any lower than that.

14:22I don't think you're going to have a fan on the pitch punching a player, which is probably, you know, I think that's probably a level above booing where you're on the pitch and acting violence. I feel that, I don't think it's going to go as bad as that again this season. I feel that now we are going to move on. And I think the Fulham game is probably like the band-aid to just rip off and move forward. I did a podcast with Brentford Ladd last week. And it was interesting because, you know, there are a lot of Brentford fans out there that think the Spurs fans are in denial, that they think that their players, our players are better than they are.

14:57and there's a lot of Brentford fans taking a level of disrespect about how we're talking about Thomas Frank and like, who do we think we are kind of thing. And I just want to take you to a couple of comments from the podcast that was published after that. This is from Camrock. He says, Flav, you're such a knob. You're a typical Spurs-y fan in denial and how your team fell apart with injuries and toxic fan base that undermined the club and now you are down the same path. Frank, like Ange, is a professional coach and you don't deserve, you need to get relegated so you can lose all your deluded fans.

15:35Love that. Not so fucking trappy now, are you, Cam Rock, after you got tumped up yesterday? Yeah, say that without crying. It did sound like he was crying. Definitely crying the whole time. And, yeah, the pod I did... Fuck, man. Here we go. So it's Mike from the Ealing Road podcast, and he'll be listening to this, right? Because he's learned, and he's a butt across everything. And when we're talking about Thomas Frank, he listens to the podcast. But he said on his pod, he said that only four Spurs players could get into the Brentford side. How many yesterday, Mike? How many of you were getting yesterday?

16:17No, but he made a point, actually. He said the whole defence, he said kudos. And I think he said Paulinia, so he might have said five. and I think probably fair before that Brentford game that's okay but not after it it was you know a completely well-rounded display and you mentioned like you say nine players were seven plus in that game I was wondering who you thought the man of the match was if it isn't Xavi Simons he got a goal and assist it's always going to be him but if it isn't him who would you have given a man and that's who hello everybody just wanted to stop the podcast briefly because we have a word from one of our sponsors and without these sponsors i'd have to get a day job and it's only because you guys are listening to these sort of adverts and actually reacting to them and signing up to these accounts because they are good and not just a way of us raising cash for the pod it's really about us pushing sponsors that we think you lot might like.

Ooh, I've got a different answer. What have you got, T? I probably have said Xavi. Yeah, of course. I was going to say Romero for that challenge on Thiago. That gave me a semi, but yeah, I'd probably say Xavi. My dad was going, the game is gone! What? He won the ball! And I was like, Dad, we've known for like 15 years you can't go through the back of a player. A GBH. He was going in my day. We would have just stood up and applauded that.

18:46A referee probably would have applauded it. I said, I know, but we know this, Dad. Why are we talking about it? We know. As soon as he did it, we knew it was a foul and probably a yellow card. I don't know, but he was a bit missed at that. I was absolutely fine. The guy next to me was well upset that he'd done that, that he'd dived in and tackled him like that. You were worried about losing a man, weren't you? Yeah, I loved it. I was like, fucking get in. It does. It gets the crowd going. And I think that was the really noticeable thing yesterday was the intensity that we played at throughout.

19:17As soon as they got the ball, we wanted it back. Kudus was doing Kudus things. If it even looked like it was getting away from somehow, we would find it. One minute, at one point, it was on all fours kind of cruelly to get back up again. There was just a real intensity about everybody yesterday, I thought. but for me I thought Bentancourt I thought everybody like I agree with T I thought about 7 out of 10 but I think other than Xavi if you're taking Xavi away like you said I think Bentancourt was probably the best but I thought he was great his best performance for a long long time and it's funny we were talking about it maybe it's just in the WhatsApp group and talking about where was the Bentancourt that we saw under Conte before his cruciate and then you can say that the cruciate injury can make a huge difference to a player's career.

20:04Some of them get over it, some of them don't. And the worry was that Ben Sincor, while he's consistently fit and available for selection and the desire and he has no fear about putting himself about and getting into challenges and whatnot, the quality has been missing from that Ben Sincor that ran the midfield for Conte. And it was really encouraging to see it. I think he needed it. We need to see it. And Frank loves him. You know, he plays every minute. like you know while Paulina is pretty much being rested every now and then Benzincore is trusted he played on Tuesday against Newcastle I can't remember maybe one or two games he's missed this season but free rotation but it was good he needed that my player though was Jed Spence I thought outside of Simmons I thought Jed Spence was impeccable had missed a big chance going through but you had to get in that scenario and was really interesting that how advanced our fullbacks were during the game like because you kind of, you think about, or you have a concept, a preconceived idea about how our defence might play.

21:08But with the ball, it's actually, certainly the full-backs have been asked to get forward and provide whip. And Spence, every time he drove, he just left his man. He was up against Coyote and Utario, is that his name? He's a speed demon, the two statistically fastest players in the league, a fan of N and him. And Jed Spence, he just, it caused them a nightmare. He really did. Joe Spence has been off it. All of them have been off it. I just thought he's driving on that left-hand side. He's in the ability to get to the byline and cross and his desire to win the ball back like the rest of them were excellent.

21:45Archie Gray was quietly satisfying as well, wasn't he? Yeah, I was a bit unsure when I saw him starting, but he did play well. He did play really well. He's just such an intelligent and smart player. He just knows where to be and what to do at all times. He's just always calm. And I feel it's starting to come into his own a bit this season. Last season, it was a bit like he was centre-back, right-back, played everywhere. But this season, he has blossomed and he's done really well. So I'm happy for him on that level. And yeah, because I thought maybe Bergvau or Sar could have played there, given that it's possibly Sar's last game before the AFCON.

22:22And Gray acquitted himself well. I think Brenton, of course, started the game really badly. which is quite funny because I think in the first five minutes, he gave the ball away over and over again and then just kind of calmed down and, you know, kind of found his feet. And I think yesterday before the game started, you've probably seen the graphic, Flaver, where we haven't had a shot in the first half in like five games or something mad like that. And I was saying, if you get a shot in the first half, I'm on the pitch. And we've got two goals in the first half. So I was really happy about that.

22:54Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, the two goals were excellent and sensational. And Xavi Simmonds was at the centre of both of them. It felt like he needed that as well. And there was two things that Xavi Simmonds gave us. One, obviously, providing the assist and the goals as a collective, his goal involvement was crucial. But his confidence on the ball made Brentford have to think about him significantly. and where he either hasn't played or has played poorly the defense were kind of able whoever the opposition were able to kind of let him just be and on the left hand side oh sorry the right hand side it meant that they could double up on kudos because they're not really worried about what we can do going through the middle and the ability of xavi simmons and the amount of times we were able to find him, that he was dropping back, meant that they couldn't really crowd out Kudus of the game.

23:53And he meant he got a lot of room. And it was a really good battle down the left-hand side with Rico Henry in the second half. Kudus definitely had the battle with him. But it was at Kerr who came off. He was... It might have been him. He came off. It just meant that there was tons of space, basically, for Kudus, but there hasn't been this season. And there will be for him. and you'll see what he can do if that midfield is playing the way it did yesterday, because they had to think about what was coming through the middle, whereas previously all of our football was going down the flanks. So that was really good.

24:26The other thing I noticed about Xavi Simmonds was he's tracking back, like he's willingness to get back into position. And certainly in the second half, there was moments where he was sprinting to get back and there was that energy and desire across the team to get back into position and fight for each other. But Xavi Simmonds was at the forefront of all of that. And I think there would be a desire to sort of pigeonhole Xavi Simmonds as a creative number 10 who's a little bit lightweight, but a little bit of a magician at the same time. And I think that would be a mistake because defensively he offers a lot as well.

25:03I don't remember the goal he scored against England where he dispossessed Declan Rice and then runs into the box and just rifles it into the corner of the goal. That's a big part of his game that often goes unnoticed. I thought it was excellent yesterday. Did you want to say anything else about Xavi Simmonds, boys? No, I'm going to just kind of echo what you said, really. His work rate is very, very high. And it's not something that you'd have associated with him before he signed with us. You just thought he'd just be, you know, prima donna staying as a number 10, but he's always back defending.

25:36and another positive of yesterday is that he wasn't passing the ball back as much. Like in the Chelsea game, he gave Van Dijven Hospital a ball and I think he did that again against Fulham when he came on. He did come on against Fulham, didn't he? And yesterday, he was doing that a lot less. He was moving the ball forward a lot more and as I said early on in the pod, just the self-belief to score that goal because he's had a tough time since he's come here. He's only 22. He feels like he's been around forever. He's only 22 years old and to just take the ball from half, friend. It could easily have just sprayed it out to the right and made the run.

26:07But he thought, no, I'm going to take these players and I'm going to side for it in the corner. It could easily have just snatched it at Ede as well. And just the present, just the calm to score that goal was just lovely to see. And hopefully this is the first of many starts. Hopefully he's not out of the team again. I know Thomas Frank likes to kind of rejig the team around. Hopefully he keeps starting games. Yeah, I think it was important yesterday for him to get 90 minutes because he didn't take him off in the end he played the whole 90 minutes I think that was really important for him to do that and I think the goal actually summed up his whole performance and summed up the whole improvement of it where what we've kind of noticed with him and what's been the issue with him is he's it felt like he's he's not been able to match the physicality of the league and the intensity of the league but the goal epitomized where he's actually is actually starting to adapt to the physicality because he loses the ball wins it straight back again is quick wins it back and then just shows a little bit of pace and, you know, composure to just slot in the corner.

27:06It was perfect. I love the celebration as well. Just jumping up on the stands in front of the North Stand. What does it mean? Yeah, man. Just, just. What does it mean? I don't know. He's doing a telephone and doing a crowning or something like that. Something like that. Yeah. I don't know. It's not really for us, is it? I was a bit gammon about all that. I was like, get down, get back, get back. Just do a fucking knee slide. Yeah. Just pump. Just jump in the air and punch the air like everybody else. no he was he was great it was really encouraging to see and like to win lose the ball and you know you've got to acknowledge the fact that that was a poor touch from him but the desire to win the ball back and then carry it 50 yards and then slot it into the bottom corner was just wicked and we could have won that game like 4 or 5 but next year 2.2 generally means that you could score 3 or 4 you know there was a chance for Sarr there was a chance for Spence there was a couple of other half chances as well.

28:01It feels good, boys. It feels good. I don't know what's going to happen this season, but those 90 minutes were very satisfying. And that's a wonderful thing. Just in terms of looking at what the people think, because as I've said a few times, I've partnered with Fan Narrative. And the man of the match was Xavi Simmons on 45%, Gray on 18%, Richie on 15 % and others made up 22 % which just shows you uh just how um how well we played across the board and in terms of the mood following the game uh 53 % were excited and happy 29 % where do you put yourself in this right uh 53 % were excited and happy 29 % were relieved optimistic and hopeful were 14 % and 5 % were negative i mean i'm a hater but even like i'd be negative about that i love those guys though they got you got to keep those guys around i love it keep everybody honest yeah yeah it just shows you as well like that we didn't even get a graph like this so so fan narrative are like an organization that um scans reaction and comments on social media and then takes all of that information and creates a mean a mean idea about how a fan base is feeling and you can pick and part what information you want out of that um but in the last month or so we haven't been thrown even thrown up this graphic where people are talking about excited and happy and optimistic optimistic optimistic and hopeful was the first time we've seen a feature this season so it just shows what just what a win can do if we go to palace and beat them and bear in mind they're playing thursday night away in europe hang on we play palace after christmas yeah we do who am i talking about forest forest next yeah fuckers yeah well they play on thursday as well the country yeah yeah yeah and the wheels are falling off there as well imagine buying your kid a toy only to find the batteries aren't included or buying furniture but missing the tools to build it frustrating right now imagine the exact same feeling but you're paying way more that is what buying business software usually feels like fragmented disconnected, and incredibly expensive.

31:43Marvel Television's Wonder Man all eight episodes now streaming only on Disney Plus why did I say Palace sorry it's probably because I do the football between the line podcast for the Palace fan go and listen to that as well get our numbers up slags never you've never listened to it no I did actually hear you talk about me on it when I had the European title you never hear anything you hear everything every time someone has a word about you you go on all these podcasts and you think oh fucking hell numbers are slipping do you know what i'll do i'll talk about cow i'll tell a cow story you're one of my favorite people on earth that's why rule the roost i hear everything i'm not even aware i'm saying it so there is some sort of you exist deep down in me like i think it's in the part where i hate arsenal and cow no no even as a joke i didn't even like i'm sorry i'm sorry um no the so what was we talking about there yeah so when we did the parade um i i don't like the fact that cow owns those wrestling belts right however when we were we we you know we we won the european the european league trophy and we went down to the parade and and we went back cow in a kind of rather genius move had a european what's it called a european championship belt back in the late 90s the wwe wwf back then had a european title and it's a beautiful it's actually a really sexy belt as well and i've got a it's a replica but it's like a pakistani knockoff that i got from ebay for like 100 quid and yeah i was sat there sat there at home and um it was actually the uh wwe actually also do a tottenham belt which i think is shit i think it's rubbish um but people kept sending me that on the on the day of the parade and it just pops into my head oh my god i've got the european title in in the loft i've got the european champion belt so i went up to the loft and then uh yeah i brought it down to the parade but yeah sorry for that thought no no just so we did the parade and uh you was as the as the bus was coming along you was the european belt up but the wrong way so they couldn't tell you what the belt was it was just lever at the back of the belt um but actually one player actually looked at it and and loved Mikey Moore.

33:59Mikey Moore. I was holding it up properly. By the time the bus came along, I had it up properly. But I knew if I hold it backwards, Ricky would take a picture. I knew he would. I just knew he can't help it. It's like that. We're going to talk about that fucker later on. But when the bus came past, I was holding it up properly by then. And Mikey Moore looked at me in the face and was pointed at that. And that was it. Yeah, it was great. Mikey Moore, who came off the bench to score a brace for Rangers against Kilmarnock last night in 10 minutes. No less. Who's their manager now? I don't know what I do with the manager, but obviously they seem to be doing a lot better than Russell Martin was.

34:36Who gives a fucking shit? It's true. I actually do know the answer. Who is it then? I think his name's Danny Rolls. Is it the Gayser? That sounds about like the Sheffield Wednesday guy. Sheffield Wednesday guy. Yeah, yeah. Is it him? I believe it was. I think he might have turned him down. Doesn't matter. I might have got that wrong. Yeah, so that was Quali. and there has been there was some discussion about whether or not what I wanted to say actually sorry about was Thomas Frank and what he said about Javi Simmons in the run up because he said that he he's trained really well and he's come off the bench the last three times and as fans you're looking at the training world stuff is good coming off the bench isn't good like he's on 200 grand a week we paid 50 odd million for him like we want him to be ready but the reality is and what thomas frank knows and what if it isn't thomas frank is any other manager is they know where they're at more or less they know what level they're seeing they're they're they're hooked up to these machines that record everything about what's going on inside their body and he probably thinks they need to get to a stage where they are good enough or ready or physically able to compete in the Premier League having played football a lesser lesser level previously as fans we don't want to hear it we don't understand just get him out there and get him play we won't know until we know but he also talked about Damsgaard and saying look it took him two seasons to get ready and it was only then you started to see who he was about and how good he was now good we knew he was but it's about creating the right environment in order from the five.

36:19And the fact that he said that he trained really well and he started and then we saw that performance, I think you've got to nod a little bit to Frank there and go, yeah, maybe he does know what he's doing a little bit. Yeah. Yeah, no, he does. We'll still out. Are we still out? Frank up? Frank up? Yeah. Fucking straight out. I'm a little bit Frank up, but I think the club need to hold firm. I strongly feel that Frank up. I'm Frank up. I'm back in. He's called me back in. I'm backing. Come on, Thomas Frank. The thing with what you said about Xavi Simmonds is that when we sign players like that, I immediately think I want to unleash them in the derbies.

36:58And obviously the derbies have not gone well so far. This is not the first one because we beat West Ham. But the two biggest derbies so far have just been completely non-entities in those derbies. But I feel that if what you're saying is correct, Flev, and we're going to see the real Xavi Simmonds now, then I'm excited for the future derbies. because when we sign really, really good players, I just think, yes, in these derbies, they're really going to shine and stand up and be counted. And I'm excited if this is what we're going to see going forward because not only is he a talented number 10, but I feel like he could even be a future captain if he could even succeed at Tottenham because he's got that sort of...

37:35I think it's that of a lot of Dutch people. Dutch people kind of got this mentality where they will say what they think and they're very forthright in their opinions. and I think not just on the pitch, but off the pitch too, is always on Instagram talking about just always working and working and working that sort of Kobe Bryant mentality and hopefully just continues to be on the up. That's it. Yeah, man. Tell me about Ricky. What happened to him yesterday? Honestly, just... Was he mobbed? It just makes me a bit sick, really. I haven't seen him in months, right? I haven't seen him since West Ham away.

38:13When was that? I don't know. September was it? It was September. Haven't seen him in ages. Walked in. He's wearing sunglasses indoors. Indoors. Sunglasses indoors. Dark ones like all the celebrities. Yeah. Surrounded. Absolutely mobbed by people. Takes his daughter there, whose only purpose is to take the pictures. That's the only reason she's there. So they're palming the phones off to his daughter? Yeah. She stands there and they hand the phones to him, charges fivers for the pictures as well. this is the other thing and then she takes the pictures she hands the phone back and then the next person comes on ignores me ignores Spooky ignores T just a fucking disgrace to be honest did no one talk to you at all just talk to Ricky no they didn't yeah a couple of people said hello to me to be fair but yeah Ricky was the main event and I made all of that up how many how many how many there were two people there there was two two three people there and to be fair to him he goes Oh, look, there's tea and there's cow.

39:13He did. He goes, oh, there's tea and there's cow. And they went, yeah, fuck it off. Yeah, we waved and then we just kind of talked to each other. Yeah. We were one Ricky. Yeah. Yeah. Papa's did it. Is that your tirade? That was it. I just wanted to make up a story about how he's such a big celebrity. But, yeah, he was there holding court. No, they were all really nice, actually. There was a few Americans there and they were all really nice. God bless them. God bless them. uh hakan endory says apparently a stat for you is flav before yesterday since javi joined we had played 18 games he started nine and we have won six of them he was on the bench for nine and we have won zero if true that's crazy how can oh you can't put if true at the end i've just read it out make sure it is true and then send it verify that shit man verify the shit backhand he did say keep up the great work.

40:10You guys are my therapy when we don't win, so fair play. Can you just come back and say yes, that is categorically true. That would be great. What do you think of Pedro Porro's performance yesterday? And Vicario didn't have a great lot to do, but I think Porro was the biggest sort of like, he had the big sort of, I was going to say, hissy fit, I guess. Oh, the true fans to be in and all that stuff. Yeah. But yeah, like a great performance yesterday. I know you're his biggest hater, T. You've described yourself as the biggest hater three times, I think, in this podcast, haven't you? I've averaged it back to my name.

40:48But I think Fulham was full-on confirmation by us. Everything I hated about him happened in that game. But he was great yesterday. And all of the qualities that I always laud in this podcast about him were true yesterday. And I feel that with him and Zerby, that the movement of the strikers is important because they will see the pass early and they will pass to the strikers early. And I thought that Poirot did well yesterday. And I think a lot of this team, I don't think we've got many lazy players in this team. I think even though we've been crap, I don't think it's more the effort that we criticise.

41:25And I thought Poirot did well. Him and Q just matched up really well. And another criticism Frank has had is that everything has kind of gone through those two. If those two don't perform, then you shut down Tottenham. but I think that the fact that Archie Gray came in and put in a mature performance and Zavi put in a good performance meant that even if they doubled up on Kudus there was other people who could do damage and yeah I think it was good that Poe played well and I love the guy do you remember the comment he said about Tim Sherwood that if if I was in prison I'd be running the wing within a week or something along those lines and because of that I can't hate him even though I've criticised his game I can't hate him because he said that just reminded me of Oz gets in the prison if in two weeks he's running it yeah but the thing is if Archie Gray was in the prison he'd be pockets within two weeks wouldn't he well he'd he'd be pimp up Apollo do you remember pockets what the fuck was pockets again no no no hang on I've messed up I've had there's two things two different stories so there was a guy in Oz who would pull his pockets pocket out and then he's sort of like prison bitch would have to hold the pocket and he'd walk around was that Oz or prison break I'm not sure it might be prison break doesn't ring a bell it could be but then we then then we used to say my brother would his nickname in prison would be called pockets because he always be have to hold onto the pocket walking around and that's led me to a thing my other brother Ross is probably going to be listening to this that if he if he was a boxer his nickname would be called the sacrificial lamb because his record his record stands of 79 fights, 79 losses all by way of knockout.

43:08Sacrificial lamb. You know what though, I know you're joking but that's quite always intrigued me about these German boxers lose all these fights because they avoid getting counted out because obviously if you get knocked out then you can't fight for 30 days. In the UK that is. Don't know if it's like in other countries. They always say, okay look I'll make you look good, you can win but you can't knock me out because I've got to free my family here. so could have a few four fights a month pay the bills keep the electric on very intriguing is there a anyway we'll talk about this after the pod we've got a question here from James Sowers I love Bentacore's performance yesterday looks like he was given a bit more freedom pressing high driving and passing forward he was one of our better players towards the end of last season when things were shit hope he's allowed to keep doing this as I'm pretty sure Frank's instructions that are seeing him play more conservatively this year he's a big fan of Ben Zancor not sure about that him playing better towards the end of last season but who knows Flav who is better who's the best defender Jed Spence or Pedro Paro arm with a knife arm with a knife kind of changed my heart sir I think Paro's had a knife in his sock in a few games I reckon yeah because you know he'll use the fucking thing as well he's not just flash dancing he will use it yeah mate give a buck fifty on the face Tak Hio he says, hi Flav, I'm a recent fan of the Fighting Cock podcast, thanks as always for the quality content, thank you mate, thanks for listening given how much more positive we looked in the Brentford game, did the performance show enough promise to reassure fans that Thomas Frank is indeed the right man for the job, or are the still majority of the members of the Fighting Cock still Frank out, so boys, we've done the joke about whether we're Frank out, Frank out in again does that performance make you feel anything other than how you felt before it and let me caveat that by saying we hadn't seen that performance before under frank 2.2 xg 2.8 on target you know 16 shots on goal and you know beating a team that's already beaten manchester city and liverpool and so i mean do you have it in you to change your mind that quickly or are you going to just double double do it was tough when it was it's tough because i think yesterday we saw what we can be we saw the what what the team can be and how we can play and you spoke earlier about the narrative the fan narrative and the 14 that felt optimistic and i could sit in that actually because we saw how we can play and wear our way out of this issue at home because that's the big issue isn't it it's how we're we're playing at home but the crowd were good yesterday and but we are a reactive fan base we always have been make peace of it but if if you do you know and we're the ones paying at the end of the day so if you go out there and and make effort and be aggressive we'll get behind you and and i think if we can carry on doing that in home games then then of course he can stay um i think t's right i think i think he has to see the season out um but i reserve the right to change my mind if i see anything else like chelsea chelsea because chelsea chelsea was well last week i wanted him fucking dead like after fulham dead i uh yeah i mean it was the arsenal game that really turned the tide for me i i that's why i i reacted really badly to that like really much badly and i've seen spurs get battered by arsenal i've seen us lose 5-2, 5-2 in two consecutive seasons.

46:48I've seen this humility. I've seen them really... I've gone through a lot. We all have watching Spurs and Arsenal, right? That was the worst I've ever felt coming away from it, thinking it was just pathetic. That's not how we play our rivals. That's not... If we're going to get beat, we're going to get beat, but we're going to go through them and we're going to create an opportunity and we are going to make them feel uncomfortable and we didn't do that. So that changed a lot of me and I think a lot of that is probably down to how I feel about Arsenal and the years of my relationship with them over the last 30 years or so, how much I hate them.

47:25That probably meant that how I felt about Frank was impacted in a way that perhaps wasn't fair, but I can't change the way I feel, can I? So, yeah, but I felt great yesterday. I want him to work. I want him to work so badly. I want us to go away to Forest and play in a similar fashion. To me, it's not... If we don't get a win, but we play a certain way, I can absolutely reconcile that. Not a problem. It isn't about the result. It's about the performances we've seen. And so I want to see stuff like that, like last night, yesterday afternoon. And if we see 70 % of what we saw yesterday against Forest, then we're still going to be in the same position, I think.

48:07That's sort of where I'm at anyway.

48:14Paddy you got anything to say? Oh no you didn't answer T go on I think I think he probably is a bit out of his depth having said that having said that I think the fact that we stripped Brentford's entire coaching staff you can't hit control or delete after five six months you just can't and Spurs as a club have to say you know what fuck what you fans are saying we're going to back him until the end of the season minimum, we've got to see what he can do. And yesterday showed what he could do. And even in pre-season against PSG, and even in some of the pre-season games, we look a bit like yesterday, really.

48:51And you can easily turn this around. And I think he should be given the season, and yesterday is a good sign of things to come. And look, I'm just an angry fan. Of course, I'm going to be like Frank out. But the manager market is crap. Unless they can pull a rabbit out of the hat and pull a massive big dog who's available, then there's no point sacking him. We sacked Poitino because Mourinho was waiting in the wings. We got rid of Nuno because Conte was waiting in the wings. We don't have that luxury of doing that now. I don't think Marco Silva and Glasner are going to massively galvanize this club if they were to join tomorrow.

49:28So there's no point sacking him. It makes no sense. I sent a message. Thinking about refreshing the carpet in your home? Now's the time to do it. 50:02Are all batteries the same? That's like asking if all soccer players are the same. Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that? No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with Power Boost ingredients inside? No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different. And Messi only trusts Duracell. so good so good so good new markdowns up to 70 off are at nordstrom rack stores now stock up and stay big on shoes tops dresses accessories and more must-haves for summer join the nordic club to unlock exclusive discounts shop new arrivals first and more plus buy online and pick up at your favorite rack store for free great brands great prices that's why you rack into the whatsapp group earlier and i was watching the interview with marito pochettino uh you know and sort of like he was talking about lots of things talking about a job in america but he the the question he talked a bit about daniel levy and his role at the club and his relationship with him which is which is interesting um he didn't really say anything out of the ordinary just said he was fantastic and you know they had a great work and all the stuff we've heard before.

51:23And then he talked about how magical that, you know, in terms of those moments in his career, it's Ajax and it's the Man City game. Those are the things that stand out. And also the pride of representing Tottenham in a Champions League final also stands out despite not winning it. And then the conversation moved on, moved to America and whatnot, and I was still watching it. And at the end, the journalists asked him questions, and said like, if you could do one thing in football, what would it be? If you could choose to do one thing in football, if you could choose one more achievement, something like that.

51:59And he said, it would have to be to win the Premier League and win the Champions League with Tottenham. And I'm like, mate, he hasn't managed us for years. You mentioned Diamond Cutter at the start of the season. My bellend nearly exploded. He's obsessed with us. you've got a manager who loves this football club he does doesn't he he does he could have said anything oh we'd love to you're managing America for fuck's sake win the World Cup win the World Cup win the World Cup that's the tapping that's the tapping he don't give a shit he's just like he's going to do his job and he's got a great manager there and better than anyone most likely to get but he just said win the league with Tottenham he could have said anything he's managed Espanyol he's actually that's his club in terms of Spain, the Espanyol.

52:50He could have said, you know, manage the Real Madrid job, maybe. Was it Real Madrid or Barcelona? He said he would never manage. I can't remember. Barcelona, yeah. Yeah. He could have said anything. Manage an Argentina, a World Cup. There'd be tons of things. And he went, no, I'd be winning the league with Tottenham. Because I reckon he'd had those questions prepared before the interview. So he must have thought about it. Yeah. I think he wants the job, doesn't he? That's what he's scheming for. What I'm hearing, mate, from you is that you're saying, Flav, is get Frank out at the end of the season and get Potch back.

53:25Is that what I'm hearing? Because I feel like that's what I'm hearing. I think look we can't ignore the fact that before the Brentford game that was our worst start in the league in 17 years

53:37if Frank from this point we see that kind of football and we're seeing it against better opposition and we have seen it against better opposition we saw it against Man City away that win is starting to look more and more impressive then there will be no job for Pochettino to walk into however if we're 11th at the end of the season then there will be a job potentially for Pochettino to walk into. And if we are 11th and we have just steady-headed it all the way through, then yeah, I would gamble on Pochettino for sure at this stage. That's what I'd say. The narrative, the feeling that he would bring, even if he did sully his reputation with Chelsea, the fact that he seemed to hate his time there and it didn't kind of work and the fact that he's still talking about us without provocation or without a leading question.

54:22What would you like to do? What's that one thing you'd like to do? I'd like to go back to the tournament and win the league. I'm going to cry. I'm going to fucking cry. But yeah, he should only get the job if it feels like we're not moving in the right direction. And Frank, if he is, then you've got to take the emotion away from it and let Frank do his business. I think with Pochettino, it's a tough one, isn't it? Because he's the only manager, I think, in world football that if he joined would get, have the support of all the fan base pretty much maybe 99 yeah but there'll be five percent negative there yeah we need those guys yeah we need those guys yeah that's that's you know we love you like we love who you are and you know who you are and you're wonderful people and we appreciate you but he would absolutely unite the fan base but at the same time he was at the club at a time with young Harry Kane, Prime Dele, young son, Vertonghen, Aldeweire, that team, he captured lightning in a bottle and if he came back, the chances are he would get nowhere near that level again.

55:33But you would see it. So I wouldn't have him back. I just feel like he captured lightning in a bottle and I think that's that really. The last two months of Chelsea really gave me a pause for thought. There was a question here, but I've lost the guy's name so apologize it wasn't this one but I do like it question memories of Bengali Kormalo do you know what I nearly did a bad racism what a Leicester goal I didn't guess it was that I knew I was going to say that Mabizella against Leicester T now I look like a racist I was about to sort of pad that out and then do the joke sorry yeah in the moment i was like the leicester goal the leicester goal and then realized obviously it's a completely different they're both south african though yeah they are yeah so uh i'm i'm at least a knowledgeable racist i know where they come from i don't want to send them back there i know where they're from a memory i've got of them is um because steve pina was at the club at the same time and um steve pina used to call him bongy which was a bit weird because you think bong weed bowl at the time I thought oh okay he was around he was around for ages and just kept getting sent out on loan as I remember yeah it was a cash grab did we is Investec one of my favourite sponsors by the way Spurs of Ed it was blue yeah that was a South African company wasn't it so I might not have been linked to that I think they were South African not much memories of him yeah but I just just need to clarify though that I realised very quickly that it was just my brain very quickly went there.

57:19This is so boring. And I stopped myself. I stopped myself and therefore everything is fine. Someone is fine. Someone else said I can't find the geezer who asked the question but he said if there's an opportunity to buy Moani in January, do you take it? Yes. I do too. What's that face for, Cal? I thought he was poor yesterday. I think you're poor. I am poor but you're a fucking poor individual I'm poor with terrible music taste terrible I hate everything about you what do you mean? do you know what I just think do you know what poor is probably a strong word and T did pull me up on it yesterday he really got into dad mode and had his finger right in my chest it was quite a hurtful experience I know Callum no this is wrong no a lot of people are going to be in a lot of trouble

58:12that was an inside joke people from flab's wedding when there was kids playing on top of haystacks and they were really high and his son was up there and up there and he goes if he falls off a lot of people are going to be in a lot of trouble that was mental as well i was so busy i didn't have time to really conceive about how dangerous that was there were children climbing on haystacks 12 foot in the air everyone was having a great time until one falls deep i was incredibly drunk and everybody's in a lot of trouble and i wouldn't have caught him if he fell because i was in no condition to catch an infant the best the best you could have done is just to be a body in the way to cushion his foot i tried like a football to put my foot out you know what i have to say forwards up a chest of drawers you just put your foot out to try and drop it.

59:02I'm generally quite good at cushioning the fall of an after-age ball. Here's a question from James Sowers. Nope, done that.

59:1511 points behind the scum, 69 points to play for. Could we? Love it. Yes. Who was realistic signing you'd bring in in the squad during the January transfer window? Who's that French bloke Rizou's just talking about him. Yeah, I remember him last week, but he scored a hat-trick yesterday from midfield. I can't remember what it was. Leipzig love a release clause, though. Is he Leipzig? Yeah. Yeah, that was the guy who was after Leipzig, wasn't it? Is that the guy? I don't know, mate. Yeah, it was Leipzig. I don't know. I want a central midfielder. I really want to say... I know yesterday... He is a central midfielder.

59:51We desperately need a central midfielder, and I would actually get a goalkeeper. Yeah. Well, I think the noise is coming out. It was interesting that Fabrizio Romano was talking about Vicario and both Milan clubs being interested in him. And, you know, he was obviously pissed off after last week and what happened. Vicario played a couple of years today and he's an excellent shot stopper. He really is. But I think the rest of his game, he can be a bit flappy. And I think if we could go out, like we did with Hugo Lloris, actually, we were not a great side but we went and bought a world-class goalkeeper at the prime of his powers and I think it's possible with goalkeepers I think it's just a slightly different thing I think if we can go out and get a top goalkeeper and sell Vacari I would take that Do we need a left back?

1:00:42Because if a dog is going to be injured 100 % yes What do you think? Anthony Robinson of Fulham He's 28 you know He's a bit older than I thought but he'd be good injured all season as well he's only played like five minutes of football just get Lewis Hall mate we're going to have some FFP trouble just get Lewis Hall he's magic isn't he yeah let's do it he's so good alright anything else you want to say boys no all good all good you can try the best you can you can try the best you can the best you can is good enough and that's not my words That's the words of Tom York from Radiohead.
