In short

Fighting Cock Q&A episode focused on Tottenham Hotspur—Thomas Frank/manager debate, fan sentiment, club changes to improve atmosphere and ticketing, and preview of the Liverpool match—plus a mental-health “To Talk is to Do” Christmas campaign with Samaritans involvement.

Guests/backgrounds

Nick and Ricky host (Ricky delayed by a bed delivery). No formal guest lineup beyond Samaritans representative Emma mentioned for a separate content project; other named contributors include Mickey Hazard and Josh James.

Key claims

Fans’ support for Frank has “softened” (polls vs broader fan-narrative polling). Club dialogue is improving: Tottenham is working on mental-health outreach and making atmosphere-related ticket/season-ticket changes. Ticket-sharing rules are being updated to allow season ticket holders to share with up to three non-members each season.

Notable examples

South Lower “vocal presence” relocation for the Villa game; ticket share consultation with Supporters Trust/Ticketing Group; junior ticket windows and family seating restrictions discussed; Liverpool preview includes Salah being unavailable (AFCON).

58Got Nick with us. How you doing, Nick? I'm all good, man. I'm all good. How are you? I'm all right, mate. I'm all right. And Ricky's joining us, but he's waiting for a bed. So I don't know why he can't be on the call. And when the bed arrives, go and get it. But... Gotta do them checks. Gotta do them quality control checks, mate. Have a little lay down in the back of the van. Have a wank. So I'm just saying jump in when you can. uh today is thursday which you know what that means means q a thursday and uh it's a quite a special day actually because people might have seen the instagram posts i did we uh we are working with the club for the first time ever on a project about reducing suicide at christmas time and encouraging people to talk about their issues if they feel they need to or everyone has problems right sometimes they they come on top a little bit and it's statistically proving that opening your mouth and speaking to other people gives you the best chance of starting your recovery from whatever it might be it might be a small thing or it might be a massive thing with the world waiting on your shoulders right now that could be true for you and no doubt many people are listening to this podcast and many people have reached out through the years explaining how not just our podcast but many podcasts that they that they enjoy gives them a moment's respite from the things that they're going through and spurs decided to do this project about uh it's called to talk is to do and encouraging people to open and start that conversation it isn't just the simple act of having a conversation it's what leads from it nick do you know what i mean yeah yeah absolutely mate and that i think that's why like we were saying just before we come on you know that sometimes the narrative of the podcast and the way that we speak and you know the first sentence I just said was about masturbation yes and like maybe that's created this divide between like opportunities like this before but I genuinely think that that is the reason why they have approached you is that it's not about like all of these structures that are there we know there's loads of barriers to mental health support we know lots of people living in isolation and like you're absolutely right research speaks to early intervention being the crucial game changer and that's the that's the fucking podcast that's having people who you can like relate to in your ears and like talking about something that you're passionate about and you love and talking about the ups and downs with the gallows humor and everything else like i think you know yourself and the podcast are in just a perfect place to spread that message which fair play to fair play to tottenham for putting it out there to be honest ago yeah interesting interesting time so we're going going down to tottenham after we finished podcast catching trains in london and um heading over to training ground which is going to be an interesting interesting experience but most importantly we're producing some content that might might help someone out there i hope it does uh it's not just me it's uh it's mickey hazard it's also josh james there is a lady called emma from the samaritans we've got people calling in with their stories and we're reading out some of the stories based on the appeal we did recently asking for people to send them in anyway so that's what we're up to and that'll be out at some point tomorrow so uh this is the q a podcast we haven't had a game to review still reeling really from the forest performance however uh the kind of feeling towards thomas frank has softened not people absolutely made their mind up but generally across the uh tottenham hotspur fan base uh foreign narrative have told us that as are from between 15th and 18th of december which is monday to is it monday yeah monday to eight uh monday to thursday when we're recording this there are now 33.97 % of Frank in and 66.03 % of Frank out compared to this would have been 10pm after the Forest game on Sunday 71 % out and 29 % in so there has been a softening of around 5 % of fans where they think that maybe he is the guy and we've got to give him more time, which is obviously contradictory to the poll we put out on Twitter, which said that 5 % want Frank in.

32But sometimes when considering polling and the medium at which you attain the information impacts the result sometimes. So the fan narrative way is probably the fairest way, where they scan the entire internet of wherever people are commenting about Spurs, they would scan that area and that'll give you a fair result. Whereas Twitter seems to be especially aggy. Instagram is less aggy and YouTube comments are even less aggier than that. So where are you at with that? Yeah, I think by nature, you're right, and the cross-section of the audience is super important. I can't answer why Twitter is so aggy, but where I'm at with it is, I don't know, I don't want to link everything back to like how you open the pod and what you're going to go and do, but reflection's important in it.

19And like, you know, like straight after an incident, um, and it was an incident one that, you know what I mean? It was a, it was a full on battering. Um, your emotions are high and like reflection is really, really important on that. I think like for me, like I, I was in the camp of, you know, keeping Frank and moving through like the process. I think the problem is, is that we've been there so many times before and it's well documented, isn't it? You know, we were here almost this time last season, you know, it's like this continual conveyor belt of just not being good enough, having everything else in place, having the structure, et cetera, et cetera.

59We've done it to death, but I don't want to do it again. I just, I just don't, you know, and. Well, that process of starting again with a new manager, it's exhausting, isn't it? Yeah, a hundred percent. And who, who flabbed? Do you know what I mean? like people say Glasner, people say Shami, like, no, mate, like they're just, they're just another bloke. Like it ain't, it's not going to fix it, is it? Like, because that's not the issue because we've, we've been around this merry-go-round several times. Right. So it's not, it's not the bloke. It's not how he comes across. It's not if he's got big ears or if he talks in an Aussie accent or like, it's none of these things.

33Like it's not, it's not the way that we're training you know, it's, I genuinely believe it's time. Um, and the time will, will tell, but it's a, but contradictory to that is the, is the nature of the game, right? Like the nature of like, we're a, we're an instant population. Like we, we want a pill for every ill and we want a pill for Tottenham. Like we want it to work and we were out of patience. And that just seems more and more evident every time you turn on the telly and watch us get battered. yeah and obviously this is i think like you said it's not just about getting a new manager in with new ideas because that hasn't worked it may be that you do strike lucky like we had with pochettino and it does change and you do you do have a lightning in the bottle moment where the players are there the recruitment is spot on and the pochettino influence becomes the most important part in that recipe for success but it did feel like we kind of lucked out on everything like maybe it was a methodical plan to do this but we had dembele turned into the best one of the best midfielders in the world um the tongan and aldevarald were brought together and just looked like they're born to play with each other you had deli ali from league one who became one of the best attacking midfielders in the world and crucially harry kane and yumin son who will go down in history as probably two certainly harry kane is the best striker we've ever had but in whom and sonny's in that conversation as well in terms of attacking place there was a lot going on at the same time now what you want to do is create a structure behind the team and behind the manager and whoever that might be where you give yourself the best chance of recreating something like that moment and that that has to happen from board level down yeah now for a long time daniel evie was at the football club there's a reason why he was removed in the football club it's quite an extreme thing to do but everyone i think at that point had agreed that it was time for him to move on and the lewis family with venkatesham underneath them have decided to shake things up and we've seen consistent perpetual movement since daniel levy's departure and so that's going to take time yeah it's not going to happen straight away like when you i've seen a few comments saying the lewis family are the issue it's always been the lewis family always but they weren't involved not in any conceivable way when the trust did meetings we've had meetings with Enoch and Daniel Levy.

59They weren't talking to the Lewis family, they were talking to Daniel Levy. Daniel Levy was de facto power broker at Tottenham Hotspur for a long, long time. So now we've got a new regime and you have to wait and see to see how it goes. And it will be judged, I'd imagine, by how much money they spend in the transfer market. But it ain't just that. It's who are they bringing in to run the football club and the football operations? And will they make the right decisions mostly? Yeah, I think you're right, mate. I think it is lightning in a bottle. but it's completely holistic and it a lot of it is just fucking fluke you know like if any of those players like if Dele Alli doesn't if Dele Alli snaps his leg first game in that season we don't that don't happen do you know what I mean so like the the noise was quietest around Levy at that time because the results were on the pitch but the results were about the player so like there's a mixture of culture and performance which is like ineffable in every sense like you how do you how do you create that well definitely it took a long time and maybe the wheels fell off afterwards but how much to do is how much is that to do with like that squad dissipating getting old you know Dembele slowing down all of this and how much is it to do with the culture which then he gets the blame for and then gets the boot but but there's no doubt like coming in at board level like the Lewis's and Venkateshan have that you have to build somewhat of a new culture around the the business as well as the club and that that will flow down to the pitch but the problem is is we're this behemoth of a club like we're absolutely huge like we are one of the main players and that just doesn't translate very well and it always comes back to like our brilliant fans who go home and away who like sing their hearts out who like are being let down or by by us not being able to get the ball in the net and that's not going to happen unless we spin big and we need we need someone who can stick it in the net time and time again right yeah quality yeah and and and that's it that is it in a nutshell and it's it's gonna it's gonna take time and i feel like the on on every level there are things happening at tottenham behind the scenes that you can tell there's a shift whether they get it right or not you know time will tell we won't know at all but largely what we can say is that the club are now being a little bit more open like case in point in the work we're going to be doing around the mental health campaign they're running that's unheard of for the club to reach out and talk to us and we're unsolicited i mean there times when we had conversation with them around 1882 and and the safe standing stuff that we worked on years ago but for them to come out and say we want to work with you guys is crazy right it's not something i would ever expect um but they're also talking to return on the shelf and and and the atmosphere movement that's going on there and you know there is a thing that's happening for the villa game let me just get this off on twitter so i don't put through it but basically ticket prices for the Villa game are 30 quid for 10 for concessions which is good a fair price I think no one's no bulking at 30 quid and they've been working with the club return on the shelf been working with a club to open a season ticket holder relocation window allowing vocals season ticket holders from across the stadium to relocate into the south lower this gives us a real opportunity to make the south lower the equivalent of a weigh-in with 100 % season ticket holders and compete with the 9 ,000 Villa fans traveling for the game.

37So look, this isn't perfect. This isn't the end. This isn't how we solve the atmosphere issue at the moment, right? There's work to do, but it's something. It's a start. It's a basis to build and grow from. And moreover, there is dialogue with the football club and they're making changes. This isn't, like I say, this isn't what is required. Our blocks in that south stand to be allocated to those that feel like a vocal presence is all important in the ground. And they have to do some really difficult stuff like moving season ticket holders out of the block who want to remain in there and not sing.

16So it's hard, right? It's difficult. People are going to be upset. But for the sake of the atmosphere, it needs to happen. And that isn't going to happen overnight. And that might not be the only solution. there may be other ways to do it but at the moment it feels like to me having done the 1882 movement you know for a year or so back in the day it kind of feels like that's what's necessary here's the block this is where you buy this is your section you do what you think is right within reason and and so eventually that may well happen but the point here is they're listening to them there is dialogue there is movement yeah and i think um it's not tokenistic do you know what i mean it's not a scarf in the way and like it's not just that there's some transparency and there's some communication with with a fan base and without a fan base you ain't got a club you know like you can't just lean into the tourism aspect of it and i think that's that's the major change is that it's not all cloak and dagger and if people aren't telling you the truth about what's going on in in any kind of organization then people start to make shit up and that's always still going to be there but if they're making active steps which are difficult which do kind of create work for them in order to create a better atmosphere within the stadium and push the team further along then yeah that's maybe as good as we can hope for at the moment you know like realistically yeah and i'm sure it will come i'm sure it will come mate uh so here's the q a podcast uh i don't know where ricky is he's still not here he's still waiting for his poxy bed oh hey chill out mate oh fucking hell why didn't you do the podcast when the bed comes fucking i don't know jump off because i didn't i didn't know how long they were going to be you know like because it's a fucking big bed so i don't know how long they're going to be like shuffling shit around and that just for the audience sake we'd arranged to meet a quarter past one quarter two no we didn't originally it was free that was a i think actually it was half past 12 my best half past 12 half past 12 no one knows who's this bed for Ricky that'd be telling wouldn't it well it's for my daughter Christmas present or a double bed yeah yeah yeah because she had a single before yeah nice we go through that process yeah Chloe had that process as well of moving to a double bed yeah poor old Will who's literally the tallest person in the house has been in a single bed since he was born and Chloe's like five for three and has this massive double bed but we need move to the new gaff and he'll have that anyway anyway Anyway, anyway.

48Sorry, with the ticket thing. You're not going to moan about your daughter again. I've seen you moaning. We know. No. What is it? The club have actually done something about it. What? Yeah. Go on, just give us a recap of what the situation was. Right, okay. So you had to be a paying one Hotspur member to be able to receive a ticket. So you used to be able to have your old CRN. It's a free account and you were able to transfer a ticket for free to that person. This season, you have to be a paying member in order to receive said free ticket. So if I had my ticket, I couldn't go to the game and I was trying to transfer it to you, Flav.

38You would then have to pay£50 to be a member to receive that free ticket. So essentially it wouldn't be free. Now, the club with the Supporters Trust, there is an update. So changes to ticket share. Following consultation with the FAB, THST, Ticketing Group and series of One Hotspur members focus groups, the club will be updating the ticket share service to provide season ticket holders with the option of sharing their ticket with up to three non-members each season. Good. Full details will be emailed to season ticket holders in due course. So I don't know if that's, so it says to free people.

25I don't know if that's, you can do that three times a season or if there's a bubble of free people. So my bubble is Flav, Unic, and I don't know, my uncle. And I can transfer my ticket anytime, all the time, whatever, but you were in my three-person bubble. Cheers, mate. Now that is a great step forward. I mean, before you was on, we were just talking about, this does sound like a neat, just, you know, the fact that we're doing this work with a club and now we're just talking, literally talking about the atmosphere movement and how they're moved and the dialogue and the club seems to be opening up a little bit and talking.

06And the scarves on the seats as well and all that stuff. It's all, I mean, the most important thing is win some fucking matches, but these are small wins I think the club can easily have taken. It just boggles the mind that this could have been so easy for Daniel Levy to be doing in the short term. Maybe he would have given a little bit more room to breathe. Yeah. I don't know. Great update though, Rick. Really, really good. This has been your crusade. Love it.

10a lot of people must have been complaining about it yeah i mean this this there's still room for improvements and shit like that like at the moment i want to go to i want to take my daughter to sunderland at home and the to get to buy her a ticket with junior membership there is a window when junior members can buy tickets or members can buy tickets a week window or whatever that window has since passed i want to now go in and still buy her a ticket in the south stand all tickets are listed as adult prices because that window has now gone but there's hundreds of free tickets there's loads why can't i just buy one for my child at a child price because i missed that window but there's going to be loads loads of that does seem the bizarre thing right is like that they like they just seem to have like this inability to sort out the people who paid the most money like you're not getting any perks are you presumably you still get your free pencil case and phone holder and like fucking your coiz pencils which lay about and you look at them and go fucking stab someone stab myself in the eye with her but like you're not getting you're not getting sorted out are you do you know what i mean and that's what a relationship's about right yeah I think it's for so long you we've just been you know taken advantage of really not like not just at Spurs everywhere like there's we've for so long football fans generally have just gone into these games and and with an expectation of their pay they'll keep turning up they'll you know they'll they'll always be there no matter what happens and the reality is given the way the world has gone the fordability of football is a massive issue and i know there are reasons why the the there weren't as many people in the game against slavia prague you know the the fact that you couldn't go on general sale for the fear of prague fans buying them all up and whatever it might be but you know the fact is that people aren't just willfully or willingly just walking into a football stadium without question anymore they are asking the question to themselves can I afford this am I respected am I given a you know is the money I'm exchanging with you being reciprocated other than just blindly following a football club because you love them right because they're a part of who you are and your identity that used to be what football was like when the club was completely almost completely reliant on match day revenue to sustain itself but now they don't need it they don't really need the match day going fan as much as they used to and that level of expectation for the match day fan to just keep turning up has been there it's almost like an assumption that this will always be there and they don't have to really worry about them whereas and a lot of energy is about been about spreading the brand of Tottenham Hotspur and whatever club it is it would have been the same for any club in the big six and beyond to other parts of the world huge amounts of energy and time has gone into making sure that the brand of Tottenham Oxford is well known in America and elsewhere and almost no energy is gone into working directly with match day going fans oh so it seems that way it might not be the case um and that was the decision that was decision at board level from someone like Daniel Levy right and I think now there's a shift and Venkateson did similar stuff at Arsenal, there seems to be a shift between actually, no, we need the fans on board.

47We need to work with them. You know, there are less people turning up than there should be, according to the projections by the football club. We're the unhappiest fan base in the league. That is unequivocal facts based on a survey done by the Athletic. And it isn't just the football that's doing it. It's a big part of it. It's the football, but not just the football. I just want to take my daughter to a fucking football game. Do you know what I mean? And it's like, no, because you can't buy a junior ticket because that window is now gone. The concession's gone. Okay, right. You can take your daughter to the game, but she has to sit in the North stand where the family bit is and you're in the South stand where your season ticket is.

24So you can't sit together. Right, okay. You can buy a ticket. Oh, actually, no, you can't because it's only a half moon today. So you can't buy it together. You can't do it today because there's a Southwesterly breeze. You need a Northeasterly to fucking buy it together. Just let it be easy for me to buy a ticket for my fucking children. These are the kids that are going to be supporting Spurs when we're too old. Exactly. Exactly. That is the point. Because I think that the structure will work for NFL, right? So you can fill the stadium. But if you took someone who supported an NFL team from America and they came to watch it in Tottenham, they'd say it was a shit atmosphere, right?

01Because everyone is pretty much a tourist. So you can go to this model where you can fill it because everyone's got more money and you can fill it with affluent pricks who are on their day trip to Tottenham. But the trade-off is the atmosphere and the passion and the screaming that will come from your daughter when we slam one in the top bins against Liverpool. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Okay, it is the... It is the Q &A podcast. We've actually dug into a chunk of this pod already. I've got about 20 minutes before I've got to go maybe 15 so where have you got to go we've done it we're going to Spurs we've already talked about it you missed it because you were waiting for a fucking bed I just want to say that you look very handsome and very smart shut up Danny Danny I would I'll tell you what you'd need if you and I were in bed together go on medexpress.co.uk yeah boy Yeah, mate.

05Yeah, yeah. So obviously we know that men of our age, we say our age, one in five of them in the UK experience changes in sexual performance as they get older. And you're not alone. And MedExpress can help. One of the best things you can do for your wife this Christmas, and imagine she didn't even, she was like, you're getting down to you. She's like, fuck, you know, hello. Yeah. What's going on here? You're doing all right today. What's going on with you? MedExpress.com. heard about the read medexpress.co.uk heard about the read on the fire cot now love you are in for a time of your life the best part of it though is quite an embarrassing thing to talk about especially of men of our age because not all of us we feel like oh maybe it's a bit embarrassed I'm only 424 why should I be going for it it's all online don't have to visit your GP your medication delivers straight to your door and so it's you know very it's very discreet so for things like erectile dysfunction and premature chore ejaculation which are two of the worst things yeah if you're if you're trying to get down it's literally two of the worst things yeah med express can help so med express.co.uk check the link in the bio you get 30 off with the code the fighting cock and that offer is uh you know time sensitive because i think for the short term at least that might be the last time you hear Med Express.

29So if you want to get that 30 % and you want to get it before Christmas then you should do that right now. MedExpress.co.uk No, it's just MedExpress.co.uk The link is in the description. Use the code TFC when you're checking out. It will give you a fighting cock as well. Yeah, up the cock. Yeah. Come on.

54So Jacob Pieden says is there anything planned to celebrate 15 years at a pod it's like when you turn 15 you're not really at that point you're sort of not bothered about your birthday or celebrations really are you just drinking a liter of vodka passing out in a park what 15 you were doing that yes not a liter not a liter that's ridiculous i don't buy into this exaggeration of that drug alcohol but yeah getting smashed up on your 15th weren't you yeah white lightning yeah when was the nation center ricky oh yeah was that 15 no that was earlier actually i think it was like 13 or 14 that was my boy yeah there you go took four med express and ended up absolutely annihilated um okay so uh yes probably no one can celebrate anything at all um joe stephen malian he says seeing as it's start season your mum is tied to a chair and has a gun against the head the only way to save her is by hitting a 180 who are the fighting cockers the highest chance of saving her mate I would be used to some terrible at darts you could blindfold me I wouldn't be bothered I think I'd probably have to go with T because T is well into his darts so he must know some stuff that I wouldn't know or anyone else and Al just for confidence yeah he'd throw three at once I'll just do it He wouldn't even look at the board.

21He just does it from the car park. None of us hit the board, but he's still got that confidence of just throwing it, no look throwing. I think if you asked Al, if you gave him six months, would he be able to do a nine dart finish? I think he would probably say yes. Give me three. He'd say, give me three, mate.

42Yeah, so probably be Al. It'll probably be Al. Any thoughts about the Liverpool game, boys? I mean, say they've got Isak and Verts out of form, but this is from Matt, by the way. He's worried about whether or not we're going to play Verts and Isak into form. They're not... Liverpool, it's a bit of a... They've not been in bad form in recent... I think they're undefeated in five. They won at the weekend. I think their patch of being garbage is past. So bearing that in mind, do you have any feeling about the game later? sorry on Saturday but there's no Salah as well so that's always good yeah what do you mean there's no Salah oh he's got AFCON hasn't he yeah yeah I thought he was done his Liverpool career was over and then he was just off the bench again oh well did none of that matter then what he said did he get a goal or assist as well I don't know bastard maybe it's just like that pragmatism of like why cut off your nose to spite your face we're not being babies about it right yeah it was it was it was big news wasn't it in a slow period but i think in terms of um in terms of us versus them in all honesty it's a hard one to call in it like you you just don't know which version is going to turn up it's big game for us under the lights yeah like see what happens like i don't i don't i'm not dreading it is that stupid no no in the same way that going into the forest game i was kind of like concerned and then obviously every concern i had proved to be a reality um in this one i'm less concerned for some reason maybe because i feel there's less to lose like the expectation isn't there whereas forest was expecting to kind of get something as well but liverpool is like when do we ever beat liverpool anyway yeah forest forest are in the ascendancy aren't they liverpool on the fucking rocks do you know what i mean and there's we we We have got the ability on our day to turn up and like smash them up.

45Like we have. Whether or not we will or not, I don't know. What do you reckon, Richard? Again, like Nick said, half five kickoff on the Saturday. It is half five, isn't it? Yeah. Under the lights, I feel confident with that. After the performance against Forest, we need to really put in a good performance. I think the crowd will be up for it as well. at you know one of those games near christmas bit of excitement in the air i think i am i'm confident but also this week on facebook you know when it chucks up your memories and then i saw one of that we played liverpool i think around this time loads of people posting them well do you remember that time they gave us an absolute shoo-in at home i think avb was manager it was like a devastating 6-1 annihilation at home.

39And I was like, fucking great omen that is. But I am confident. I am confident for Saturday. Jack Doyle says, will we see something better from the team with Frank having a full week to prepare for this game? Playing twice a week is something you didn't have to contend with while at Brentford. Hopefully you can see another special operation similar to the Super Cup. Rick, before you answer that, we did, we had a kind of revisiting of the poll. not our poll which had had frank out or frank in at five percent yeah this is fan narrative's poll which is probably much more accurate of the general feeling and it went from 29 being frank in uh that's 10 p.m on sunday after the forest game so now being at around 35 so you sort of five percent shift in the direction of him being the right man at the moment yeah is that surprise euros about right 33 or 34 percent of these feels about right yeah yeah yeah it seems but yeah i think people have calmed down and stuff like that and have you yeah yeah i i mean i wasn't out so like i was one of those odd people that i'm still kind of like i'm i'm okay about it no nick's nick's the same i'm not i just don't know i think we just i don't know i can't be asked to answer the question do you know what i mean that's that's how i feel about it i don't care whether i'm franking or frank out i just want it to work yeah and i'm not convinced that just shift changing him for something else means it's going to suddenly suddenly i don't really want to do it again as discussed but i don't know who who out there is the the guy to come in like if you could just click your fingers and javi Hernandez is it Xavi has sorry Xavi's he he's our manager now the ex Barcelona manager and obviously world-class legend of Barcelona's game yeah would you take him well I mean like a managerial experience I don't think I would but Sam Allardyce has managerial experience doesn't he I think I think if there's like a magic wand or a click of the fingers I'd probably just give potch another go like and just try and recreate something you know if that's your fucking genie in a bottle like you just you just go fuck them off let them get fucked in the world cup mate come on you little argy so and so let's have you back in here creating some magic moments for us let's see what happens like that's the one in it like i think i think it is and yeah nostalgia but like fuck it like nostalgia is all right isn't it yeah isn't it yeah i think in the absence of sort of abject sort of misery yeah it's the nostalgia is actually probably good yeah uh just on that south stand joe says do you get people listening to the podcast do you get more people listening podcasts after a win or a loss if misery loves company then does triumph demand an audience uh yeah misery in podcasting doesn't love company people don't listen to podcasts when we're losing but it's not our podcast anyway uh no we very much need winning well winning side in order for people to get the maximum out of the fight and got more for us to get the maximum out of it um fred says does this feel similar to nuno's last game team from the northwest his manager is under pressure versus a spurs side with a defensive manager he's one bad result from the boot for the crowd ready to properly turn on him at any point so this is the sort of this is the uh this is the the situation is it's not just about spurs floundering it does feel like the the bay and masses are ready to to turn like if we go two three goals down or one one goal down early two goals down early then i can't imagine my arlene being a really great place to be merry christmas oh fucking hell i'll be like for fuck's sake i'll have my elbows resting on where my safe standing is and i'll just be looking at the floor at my trainers just like you fucking cunts just for once honestly please help me help me what is it that you're hoping to gain by taking your daughter to these um i don't know what is it exactly is it just build resilience yeah yeah yeah life lessons yeah yeah it's not positive experiences is it yeah yeah yeah Yeah.

09We've got a message from Boris Wiseman. He says, my wife has this way of measuring my love for Spurs as if it's a marriage. She jokes when I casually miss a game more recently, saying, are you and Spurs now going through a divorce? But when things are good, it's obsessive, loving, honeymoon kind of love, the poch days, where you can defend them no matter what and believe everything will work out. But when things are bad, it's a full-blown crisis. I've been emotionally booted out of the bed, sentenced to the couch, spoken to only icy silence and subjected to divorce threats after a massive altercation crying alone in the bathroom which brings me to my question where are you in your relationship with our beloved highly bowed bipolar football club right now me i'm currently sitting in the car with the engine running threatening to leave for good while fully aware i never actually will because deep down i love to torment a spurs fan from south africa yeah that we mad that we can do that to someone in south africa like yeah no one's safe yeah where you are in the world yeah you move to africa we're still comfier i think you're born in africa you're born in africa we'll come for you love us yeah we're the fucking temptress

26it's so funny that sunshine beautiful life all of that and then tottenham are just there ready to fuck your day up wherever you are in the world there's no hiding there's no hiding brother that's it so much of football doesn't really make sense because they ask the question like if it doesn't make you happy why do you watch it and the answer is i have to i i have to why do you hate arsenal i have to yeah yeah it's just you just have to just attachment in it just pure attachment as bad as it was in the league form last year i've never seen anything like it none of us had really unless probably since the year we went down none of never been as bad as that right in terms of the level of performance on the pitch did i miss a single game did I even consider not watching a game no my dad would my dad would answer the door to me as I drove once again to his house to watch Spurs play and he'd look at me and he'd just tut and shake his head before the game had started but I didn't miss one he didn't miss one that's what I thought when he said if I casually miss a game I was like I wish I could fucking do that yeah but I forgot it was on.

46I went for a dog walk. Do you know what I mean? I went to the shop. Fuck off. I'm there. It's like, I can't even, like you'll move things around to watch it as well. Like you're, you might have a day planned with the wife and the daughter and it's going to be lovely. You go for an ice cream, you walk around the pond, whatever it might be. Yeah. And you're like, can't. Literally, literally this Saturday going into London to the globe, like with my kids and that, What show-in do you want to go to the earliest one? Why is that? Got to be back. Are they playing? Yeah, they're playing. Got to be back for some misery after a lovely day out.

22No time to see the sights. Fuck that. My mother-in-law, she goes, no, no. Not getting on again, are they? Yep. Yeah. If you hate it so much, why do you watch it? We've got to.

41Valerie, we've got to. You know this. Stop asking these questions. Even when you're at a wedding, and you can't get out of the wedding, and you know Tottenham are playing, and you're sat there. You can't watch the game. You sneak your phone out of your pocket. You go into flash score. You do a little refresh. 25 minutes, nil-nil. Right, we're still in this. Let's not fuck this up. Sneak the phone out again. 32 minutes, go. One nil down, you fucking stupid cunt. It's a free bar, but you're still angry. mate do you know the happiest thing on my wedding day the best thing on my wedding day was the spurs versus manchester city game was cancelled because the queen died i was like result we can all just enjoy our day yeah we can all just have a great day at my wedding everyone get drunk spurs are not gonna ruin everyone's gonna be in the room focused um you know and if i looked across at you and i was doing a speech or something rick and you was looking at your phone because Spurs were playing.

36I'd completely understand. I'd completely understand if we were 4-0 down and you were still watching.

45They're literally the only thing that can make a funeral more miserable, isn't they? Alex

54during his wedding speeches had Spurs versus Aston Villa like a nothing game. I think actually it might have been like Potts was under pressure. It might have been the game where Harry Kane scored his his first goal for Spurs. Was it his first goal or his first Premier League goal? The free kick against Villa. And he was watching it as he was getting married. That marriage didn't last. Funnily enough. We've got a question from Mr. Johnson. It says, I know it, you know it, my mates know it, the train is on the wrong track. It's Potch after the World Cup. Surely, give him time, not Frank, he ain't the one.

I don't hate that. what's worse the cricket or the football i mean everything i love everything single thing i want to happen they just don't it just doesn't happen for me i mean i just think maybe it's not supposed to this is just my you know like i lucked out by being born in the uk and one of the luckiest smallest percentile on this planet to have been lucky enough to be born here yeah and every advantage and every possibility.

28I can really do what I need to do and achieve pretty much. So maybe that's like, God was like, well, that's enough for you. And I'd be like, but what about all the Arsenal fans that were born here as well? And they're like, yeah, but they're going to get what they want. This is your journey, your path. I don't want this to be my path. I want my team to win. We are going to lose 5-0 in the ashes. We're going to lose 5-0 in the ashes. Do you understand what that means? Ricky, you're just turning your hand in recent times to cricket and trying to get into it. Yeah. It's like currently it's been like going away to Arsenal and you're 3-0 down and they're laughing at you because of how shit you are.

17Yeah. That's what we're going through. And it'll be 5. By the end, you know it'll be 5-0. Okay. yeah and then and then you don't have to wait four months till you play each other again you gotta wait two years oh god's sake and then and then and then they're gonna come to england right and then and we're not gonna beat them that's what's gonna happen i know that's gonna happen because that's what's always happens how does uh valerie feel about the fact that it's on on Christmas Day, Flav. Well, luckily for her, it is not on Christmas Day. It's on during the night. So she doesn't have to actually see anything.

56Like the good thing, the only small mercy of this Ash's, sorry, this test currently, is that it's over before I open my eyes. Like I don't have to go downstairs in my dressing gown and sit on the sofa and watch England crumble again, right? It's like you've been burgled in the night. It's already happened. which is which is fine um only phone call says if van de ven leaves what do you think that does to the dressing room i don't give a shit really players leave players go come go we'll go we'll buy new players i don't think it don't think it really does does matter what makes you think he's gonna leave he's like contracted for the next five years it'd be very difficult for him to leave yeah the um i did feel a little bit um uneasy as just sitting there and then someone drops into the whatsapp group van der pen's doing a overlap interview with gary neville and i was like for fuck's sake why is that happening why why is it one of our players why can't it be with one of the goona players like why is it like and i was just like because one of the goona players you're like everything good yeah great we're gonna win the league yeah oh all right but um i don't think there was anything that bad that came out of it as far as i'm aware or seeing anything reported i've not watched the whole thing but um i just say well vuscovic gonna come in take his place there'll always be someone yeah these don't get attached to the players they're always going they're always fuck you over but in the end but uh well not not all of them but you know most players this is got me i'd never there's this skis i i use it i don't really speak too much anymore but his name's Jim Irwood and he used to look after footballers and he'd just go, they always want to move forever.

47I mean, what do you mean? He went, they just always want to move. Think of the benefits to moving a football club. And I was like, well, you know, the loyalty and he'd just look at me like I was a small child talking like I was out. He says, the move makes them a fortune, an absolute fortune. And in this instance, someone like that, Levin is going to go on to play for Real Madrid, isn't he? Yeah. So if you were Van Der Ven, why wouldn't you want to move is my point. Yeah, that's true. So Alfie Nicholson Media, he says, is Levy's absence putting pressure onto Frank more so than if Levy was still at the football club?

30When things were bad under Ange, the anger was initially directed at Levy with chants in protest, or is the style of football the main issue? We just want to be angry at something or someone for this mess, it seems. Yeah, if Livy was there, he'd be getting it. Yeah, oh God, yeah. He'd be terrible. It'd be like Eric Dyer-style clamouring over the seats just to get to him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Do you say Alfie Nicholson? I think it's that the MK boy, I met him at Anthony Joshua fight. I think you had a phone call with him as well, Flav. What? Yeah. I don't remember anything of what you're saying. It makes no sense to me.

13I don't know what you're talking about. He's doing sports media, wants to be a journalist, and you rang him up and had a chat with him. When? At the Anthony Joshua fight? No, after that. Oh, right. Do you remember I kept emailing you and then you were like, fuck it, I'm calling him. Oh, right, yeah. So Alfie was putting it on Ricky and Ricky kept putting it on me. Yeah. Don't do that again. No, I learnt my lesson.

40Yeah, I got you. I remember, I remember. Did we have the phone call? I can't remember. But yes, him, Alfie. Go and follow him, Alfie Nicholson on Insta. But yeah, you're right. I mean, it's, I think he would get, I think, I think Frank's style of football always a big big problem but just it wouldn't be a problem if he wasn't if he was winning games i don't know if you saw this graphic that was doing the rounds uh about our performance compared to the other five leagues you know what i'm talking about boys yeah we're third in the xg over performance which generally means you know you're over performing and you won't be able to forever 75th in the XG difference in per 90 87th in XG created per 90 53rd in XG conceded 88th in SCA whatever that means 84th in shots per 90 there's only 20 teams in each league 45th in progressive passes and 38th in touches in the penalty area that's part of the problem yeah it's form though isn't it and form changes as well.

47You know, as much as those statistics are brutal, they've been and gone. That's true. You know, like, today's a new day. Yeah. They can't hurt us anymore. Like, Frank says he's got no social media, doesn't go on social media, not interested. But with all the analysts and stuff like that we have, do you think they say to him, like, look at these numbers, Frank? Just don't say anything. I'll just stick to what I'm doing. He likes the numbers. Yeah, yeah. yeah he knows he knows peter mouse says if you could travel five years into the future would you be surprised to see tottenham in the championship p.s ricky is cooler than you oh i don't know you shut your fucking whore mouth if i woke up like watching the cricket and you wake up and you're like please please England please England oh it's worse than I thought so if like five years time I wake up and suppose like 12th in the championship I wouldn't probably wouldn't like it wouldn't shock me I don't I don't I wouldn't anticipate it I wouldn't like if you had to bet my house on it I would say definitely not but if I woke up five years from now and we were 12th in the championship I wouldn't be like none of this makes sense yeah you wake up and you go check the last result and you're like oh one run against Norwich oh it must be a cup game week before oh we lost 2-1 to Sheffield Wednesday have they been promoted why are all these teams in the championship oh god oh god oh no

36um yeah so uh but it's look it's it's ever-changing ever-shift in ever undulating football and there is a lot happening at spurs that will mean that we can be optimistic for the future you know a lot of it will come down to how aggressive we're going to be in the transfer market right the part of the reason why spurs was stagnant for so long was because Daniel Levy this is my guess but Daniel Levy is very comfortable with our wages being in and around 40 % per revenue which is the lowest in the league there was an aggressive attitude to going after players that might change there's a complete new backroom staff that are operating a different way from Daniel Levy there's no guarantees in football at all but this is different it is different right and it needs to be given time to breathe whether that's with Thomas Frank or with someone else I think nothing really changes until the attitude from the owners in the football club is one that football is at the forefront of everything and the winning football matches is at the forefront of everything and that energy will trickle down to the players and beyond and and that can only have a positive thing whereas I think previously it was just a passive football club we were comfortable where we are we accepted our position in this the football hierarchy and if you accept that you can't really strive to change it it's it's a it's lucky if you do so yeah i think like you know the key thing really is that if things do continue to get worse to talk is to do very true very true indeed right then thanks everyone thanks for tuning in uh keep an eye out for the podcast the talking to do podcast tomorrow with a club it's out at some point in Friday evening I'd imagine we'll know 100 % soon but yes we'll be back on Monday with another episode of the fight got no deal picking the bones over a wonderful 4-0 win over Liverpool Football Club why did I do that I called them Liverpool Football Club instead of just Liverpool it's I swear we're indoctrinated to do that it's fucking annoying anyway bye

It’s Q&A Thursday and we’re talking about mental health, ticketing, and Thomas Frank’s job security all in the same breath. Spurs have reached out to work with us on “To Talk Is To Do”, there’s actual movement on atmosphere and ticket sharing, and we’re trying to work out if any of it means things are changing for real. Plus, Ricky’s late because of a bed, we argue about kids tickets, and we talk ourselves into being weirdly confident about Liverpool under the lights.
