It's the boy. Cock. It's the boy. It's the boy. Cock. I jam tarts in a box like Mr. Kipling. What a line. The one alone is Sean Cray, who I've just messaged. And we've been talking back and forth very briefly. And he's going to come on the pod, which is cool. Oh, what? Really? So if you like your British battle rap, then Sean, your boy's coming on. Yeah. Ricky. Yeah. me and you did you did you see the canal on the and the sinkhole earlier yeah I did yeah I got flutters in my stomach yeah people will know this if you listen to lads of non-pod look if you're ever sick of Tottenham right like we are we're all everyone listening to this is sick of Tottenham Frank's sick of Tottenham Harry Kane's sick of Tottenham yeah fucking Danny Blanchard from beyond is sick of fucking Tottenham everyone's sick of Tottenham listen to lads anonymous because this is the kind of thing we would talk about uh earlier on in shropshire there and we probably might even talk oh it doesn't matter we'll talk about um the early on in shropshire uh much more interesting news than anything that's going on at tottenham yeah was that there was a sinkhole in a canal and all the canal water was gone and then it's just an empty canal and a big sinkhole and canal boats sitting on the bottom of the canal yeah the boats were going down the sinkhole as well down the sinkhole yeah before we make light of this uh and i don't know how much of sinkhole chat we can get into a top of my podcast but everyone's all right yeah yeah yeah yeah 10 people that are you know injured but there's no no no deaths or anything like that when you're injured what are you thinking i don't know maybe just trying to scramble out of the boat scratch yeah yeah yeah uh just quickly uh another whenever i think of a canal and i think of ricky is two things he goes on his walks every day and he goes down the canal and the second thing if you haven't listened to laszum on us you won't know the story of someone a listener who called in and invited ricky to come down to his uh canal boat just to say because i'm going through the grand union canal which is right right where you know in the region of where ricky lives and he said uh why don't you come down to the canal and ricky i mean these i wouldn't do this but what did you do i went and met him i did yeah i did i went i You're very good at talking to people and communicating and saying a lot.
2:58I'm terrible at it, but you were very good at it, Rick, to be fair. Yeah, there was apprehension. Because I'm meeting someone that I don't know. I've never met them. We're just communicating through Instagram. Spurs fan. Spurs fan, yeah, yeah. Listen to the pod. So I went down to meet him and there was some apprehension that I thought I could go there and get to his canal boat. So you're walking along the path. Walking along, trying to figure out which one's his, because I don't know which one's his. Yeah. Scanning. I don't know what's going on. Yeah. And do I just walk onto his canal boat? Because that's the one I think.
3:36Yeah. And then I just had this image of these double doors flying open. Yeah. Yeah. And him just waiting there with a crossbow. I don't even recognize it. It's a crossbow. You just hear the... And the arrow just flies out. it's just in my chest and I'm gone I'm gone and then I then the wheels start turning of what's happened yeah yeah yeah yeah like your family never gonna see you again no no no kids raised without a father yeah on front of the Milton Keynes Herald yeah Anglo-Indian man found face down Grand Union Canal with a crossbow for his chest thankfully that didn't happen though thankfully a couple of fags and a couple of tins didn't you yeah yeah It's a beautiful, beautiful day there.
4:24I've heard Ricky tell that story maybe 15 times. And every time we talk about a canal, I make Ricky tell that story.
4:35Yeah, so Tottenham Hotspur, they lost against Liverpool, didn't they? Definitely just confirming we did lose. Yes, we did. Yeah. But I didn't spoil your day, Rick. You had a lovely day. Yeah, I had a lovely day. Normally around Christmas time and the game closest to Christmas, I would meet up with people. We'd go out for a good meal and have a lot of beers. And I try not to let Tottenham ruin the day. And I've done it before with my old man and his mates. And this time I'm out with my two cousins and their mate. And we went for a lovely Turkish beforehand. I will get in trouble from the Fighting Cock patrons if I mention the Turkish name, because I mentioned it once and then they said it started getting really busy and they blamed it all on me.
5:27The restaurant got busier? Yeah, yeah, they said it got busier and I was getting DMs from the patrons saying, what have you fucking done? We gatekeep this for a reason, you twat. And I was like, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. But does it begin with a C? It doesn't, no. There's another one. There's another good one. Yeah, yeah. I don't know if I should say. I mean, it's good for the business, so why not? It's called Capital. Oh, okay. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, yeah, apparently that's a good Turkish rule. Why anyone would want to go before a football to fill themselves up with meat is beyond me. But you managed to get battered anyway, really.
6:04Yeah, I did. Yeah, yeah. A couple of Fs in the Turkish year, then straight into Beaver Town. some neck oil. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I had a lovely day. Did, um, were Spurs able to ruin it in any way? A little bit? I don't know if you could say, like, obviously the result isn't what I'd hoped, but there was, it's kind of, yeah, it's kind of, I wasn't actually going in there and thinking that we were gonna win comfortably or I thought we might get something from the game. And although we did lose, there was a bit of pride, dare I say. A bit of fight, a bit of passion, a bit of something that I could at least hang my hat on.
6:53In terms of where the blame led for this one, the finalists' analysts' analysts' analysts, they said that 56, the players were to blame rather than Frank in this one. And I kind of like, I was watching it, Rick, and I'm not sure if this is a good thing, but I was like... Another loss, at least you kind of know the end in sight. Not that I necessarily want the end in sight for Frank. I don't know what I want currently. I'm in a sort of weird purgatory where I don't want to start again. I don't want to necessarily see Frank Ball forever. But I have seen some semblance of improvement, certainly in the home games recently.
7:37And so when we got the two red cards, It's not really on Frank, that red card that Simmons committed and Romero committed. There's not much he could have done. And I felt like we were growing into the game before the red card. So you take all that into account, Frank can't really be blamed for this one. And I think it showed that the players are still playing for him to some degree. Do you know what I mean? They bought in. I thought the performance with 10 men was really good. I thought, well, really good. What am I looking for? We didn't will. We were competitive and we had the better chances.
8:10even at nine men i thought we were you know we were knocking on their door yeah which so it was nice i mean it was nice to see that we just didn't kind of capitulate and lose four nil or whatever that we did have some fight in us i so i'm interested to know what you think rick for obvious reasons because you're on the podcast with me but the the and and moreover i respect your opinions on football. Oh, good. Thank you. Right. Somehow, I agreed with both red cards. I think they should have been reds, right? Oh, okay. And by the same token, that was the worst refereeing performance I've ever seen.
8:48It was horrendous. Utterly horrendous. How bad must it be if I agreed with the red cards? It was every time they fell over. I'll say case in point, exhibit A. Right, okay. Yeah. So, Jed Spence gets the ball, carries it into the box, turns Bradley. Bradley slips, pulls over, complains that he's been fouled. And so the referee saw it and gave the foul. You watch it back. It wasn't a foul in any world. And I'm not one to generally bring up comparisons. Oh, remember when this happened, but this didn't happen, right? Because referees approach the game in a different way. I was on the overlap recently and they had Clattenburg on there and he was talking about that and how a referee individually approaches the game and i'm thinking surely it'd be a unified code and you'll have to more or less view it in the same way just so there's consistency but apparently that isn't the way it's the way it is and referees often give i have a style some referees let things go some people referees don't like the sense some referees are kind of much more lenient on it they'll let challenge 50 50 challenges go anyway so i appreciate that it's not the same for every game but on the same day Newcastle played Chelsea have you seen Chalabra's barge on Gordon that didn't result I'm not sure if you could call it a barge maybe an assault it sent him to another strategy mental in it that was I've never seen a more stone wall penalty than that it seems to be as long as you're shoulder to shoulder you can do whatever you want you know what I mean you could just annihilate another player it was a 50-50 challenge yeah Yeah, use the shoulder ref.
10:28Gordon's dribbling. He's running at pace. Yeah. So his balance is going to be completely different to someone who is shaped up to essentially knock him off the ball. Yeah. That wasn't a penalty. No foul given. But Jed Spence doing absolutely nothing to Bradley, putting an arm on his shoulder maybe. Yeah. Was a foul. Ridiculous. What I will just say, while we're talking about Spence, even though we lost, I thought he had a great game. Yeah. I thought he was excellent. Weirdly, despite everything that's going on, having formed loves driving, doesn't he? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he's a real threat.
11:08Like when eventually this all clicks and we're great. Yeah. Having, we do have the players in there. Like Spence is really good. Yeah. And I wonder, do we overrate our players? I think to some degree, probably we do. Like everyone does with their own team. Let me ask you a little question. Go on, go on. Quietly. Okay. Listen, is Bertfeld overrated? I don't think he's overrated, no. What does he do? i mean what is he like what does he stand that thing okay when has he ever done anything oh he's he's you're being harsh here i'm not i'm whispering so i don't i'm whispering if i was talking like this what does he do what does he do i'm whispering knowing that full well this isn't a this isn't a that's easily palatable.
12:07It's not palatable. Tell me what he does. I think he, for me, I think he is always looking to be offensive. He's always, if he can move the ball forward, if he can drive with the ball. Always losing the ball more like. Yeah, but you've got to be, you know, in those situations, you've got to be a bit daring. You've got to be a bit brave. While we're a crush, right? We just allow these young players to develop. Well, this is what we bought. This is what we bought. What we some sort of fucking crash where these young players can learn their trade before fucking off to someone else. Is that what it is?
12:47Yeah, it's... There was obviously a player in there, but I don't know. Yeah, it's difficult. It's... I just find that we chop and change so much that it's quite hard for anyone you know Romero, Van de Ven, Vicario, Spence, Porro they are back five and they've been playing together for a lot of games they've got that rhythm, that understanding but when you are chopping and changing with Benton, Kerr, Paulina, Saab, Birdfield, Gray that chemistry of the two sitting in there hasn't really built up and we don't really know what it is who our best duo are or in to get the best out of who we're playing if we're not going to be defensive but we still want to be a bit defensive but a bit more offensive but still not be as risky and it's kind of like i don't know it's it's tough it is tough um let's go let's talk about the red cards oh just just to update everybody um every single game forever uh we're gonna have a frank in and out on a lot on one metal frank in and out okay good frank in and out what look what's the word i'm looking for oh meter right uh so he is currently down on where he was last week uh down by 3.34 percent down to 30.63 percent faith in him in and up to 69.37 frank out wow i thought we looked a little bit more eventive a little bit more attacking i think we look pretty defensively solid more or less in that game i don't i don't think this i know i guess that the the increase in wanting him out um is uh it's about just losing another game and that's always going to happen so i think generally people can i i'm gonna say i'm gonna say a few things here right it might be wild and i might be connecting the wrong dots but i can only tell you from what i feel as a spurs fan being at the game watching it seeing things play out yeah and i i you know i've said it on the pod before i am still franking i still think that maybe he's not the guy to take us to the promised land i get that but i think he can still do a job whereby we can move up the table and have stability and have a good foundation to work from and it's hard to kind of have that position where I can't then say to you okay well how have you come to that conclusion are we exceptional defending no we're not are we exceptional attacking no we're not so what is it where are the green shoots that you're saying okay at least I believe this in Frank and to be honest I don't have anything right I just feel like if you I just feel that there are so many variables in what makes a club successful and moving in the right direction that it's not just down to having the right tactics the right players you know a board members coming in and moving and coaching so all of that stuff it you know attributes to how you do play now this is the wild take that I have and I don't even know if it's that wild but I feel like that the players aren't having Frank I feel like either it's one of a few things either there's a few of them that aren't buying into his training methods and his ethos and philosophy and whatever else or they're not understanding what it is and haven't got a true grasp of it that's why it's causing frustrations on the pitch and we're seeing disjointed performances now the reason i say that is because like van de ven i'm gonna pick van de ven here so in the overlap interview he was very um what's the word i'm looking for attractive uh yeah he was oh yeah god yeah yeah very attractive he was very um positive i'll just say about ang about training methods about philosophy and that he believed in his philosophy and he still does and he still thinks it will work and he was very positive in the in the way he was speaking about him and then about frank he we said it's it's different it's tactical it's like syria it's very italian style and he walks us through each bit he's like walking them through what he wants them to do now going from what andrew was like you know be yourself play how you want to be be creative we always look to go forward but not have that kind of um leading the minute by minute of what they need to do and then going to frank where it is a bit more restrictive and he's telling them to do different things now when when he was asked about frank he kind of like he paused about what he was about to say and it felt like it's like shit i should say pick carefully because he's still my boss and i have to be positive but also So I can still have a little subtle kind of like, you know, it's like Serie A.
18:46Then when he was substituted, no, was it the end of the game and Van de Ven and was it Spence? I can't quite remember now. They didn't acknowledge Frank when they were coming off. Yeah. There was that little bit there. Yeah. Okay. And against Liverpool, when it was the final whistle, the fans were applauding the players. and from, I was watching Van Der Ven for ages and he had his back to the South Stand. He was on the halfway line. He had his back to the South Stand and he wouldn't turn around. And Gray was there clapping. Ben Davies came over, started clapping. Who else was there? Brennan Johnson.
19:28Then at the last minute, Van Der Ven kind of turned around, gave a little acknowledgement, clapped and then walked off. I just feel like he is - What does that mean? I feel like he's frustrated. What's the South Stand got to do with it? Well, I just feel like it's kind of like he doesn't want to face the South Stand because he's disappointed in the result. And it kind of feels like he doesn't want to play this way. That's what it feels like. I know I'm saying there's a lot of dots that I'm trying to line up. No, no, no. I like what you're saying. It's interesting to listen to, Ricky. But what's really sort of raised my eyebrows here is what you think you're better than everybody else because you sit in the South Stand.
20:09No, no, I don't think I know I'm better. Fucker. That would have been so much easier if you didn't go, no, no, don't. All right, you win. So there's that, the Van der Ven bit. Romero, that petulance that he's getting a card in every game, almost it feels like, it just feels like there's some frustration. And it feels, do you remember when we had AVB and the players were finding it hard to understand what he wanted? And they kept talking about phases and you're not doing this in that phase. And there's a second phase and a third phase. And under Conte, he would micromanage. He'd almost like, it was like dance.
20:52He would go through every single step of what they were going to do for their opponent. And it kind of feels like, because I'm not obviously in training, but it feels like that's where Frank is. And I don't think the players, it feels like they're frustrated with, it's not as like free-flowing attacking football of what they played under Ange. And they were given, they were left to their own devices to be playing that kind of philosophy. Finish 17th and won a Europa League final play in Harambo. That's what the kids say. That's true. Yeah. I'm sure all footballers want to play five-a-side every day in training and do what they want.
21:34But we also don't want to pay£2 ,300 a season ticket and finish 17th. So we can't all get what we want. It wasn't working, Nicky. It weren't working. Just on that, he was probably like, imagine like you're just your wife. Your wife's going, yeah, man. like my husband you know he pays for the house and i'm secure but man that dick i used to get yeah it was long yeah yeah still when my head hits the pillow i think about that one yeah i don't think about security i think about the dick yeah yeah long long strokes long strokes yeah yeah and then you and then husband walks in and goes sorry no no because I really appreciate the house I really appreciate what's what's happening um yeah it's like it was it was it was kind of that you know vibes anyway mate let's uh let's let's talk about the red cards we haven't come on to it um I think it was I think Javi my blame I don't I blame Javi Simmons for getting sent off and for and and causing that game I do I did after the game i calmed down and i still do now i'm not saying this is an issue he needs to really figure out what he's doing there's a massive problem with javi simmons none of that i'm just saying i think he made a mistake and when i watched it i looked because it's obviously the tv angle and i imagine in the stadium it's a different thing but the tv angle i was looking at was like that doesn't look good in real time but i didn't quite see what had happened yeah it's basically because there was a collision and the ball was so far away from Simmons that I just thought that didn't look good.
23:16And then I watched the replay and I said immediately he's gone. 100 % gone. This is before the referee even went to the monitor. I said, daddy's gone.
23:28Online, I kind of feel like to some degree I might be in the minority. It's divided. Is it divided? It's divided. I think there's quite a few people like, it's silly, it's clumsy, he should be uh more focused on what he's doing what he was trying to do i don't understand it it looked like it was born out of frustration and that's where the red card comes from see the frustration with frank and how he's training every single time i hear the word frustration i'm just gonna lean into my narrative that i've just cooked up no but you know i think it's a fair thing to look at if you don't none of us know rick so it's fair thing for you to look at it and and take away an assumption for sure.
24:08I think that, do you know what? There's a lot that I don't really understand with reffing and the rules. And a lot of people online saying there was no intent. It's his captain. Like there was no way he went out to go and hurt them. And there was no, there was no force. And then people are like, but if you have a look at the rules, it doesn't say about four it doesn't say about that he raked the back of his achilles and that is a red card so i'm like i don't i don't really know why are you doing that voice i don't know i don't know where it came from because it's like nerds nerds yeah but yeah internet nerds no but i would suggest that you didn't you think that they are wrong do you is it yeah yeah yeah subconsciously you've been there wrong.
24:57I am, yeah.
25:01Subconsciously you've been there wrong. Yeah, I know. I'm a nerd. Yeah. What is it, a red card or not, Rick? I thought he got the decision right. It was a yellow card. It was a silly tackle. And I think it looks bad because obviously there is a rip in Van Dyke's sock. And it's like, right, okay. So the yellow was enough? I felt the yellow was enough. van dyke wasn't like calling for it that doesn't matter yeah i know but i just felt like i feel like at the end of the day right if you're playing a game of football and you can be adult enough to come to a decision where it's like there was no intent i know the letter by the law you've tackled him above you know on his calf and he's gone down so you have to go off that's what it is right uh sorry i'm not saying that's what it is but just for as an example but can we not as adults be like right okay he was facing his like he was nowhere near his own goal it was not a goal fret it was not intent it was not this it was not that it was just an accident it was an accident and i don't think it was an accident i think he intended to what he intended to hurt him that's not what i said ricky but so he intended to do what then i think he intended to foul him out of frustration yes right okay and and the way he did it could have caused serious injury It was up his calf.
26:23So he went to hurt him then. Okay. Yeah. All right. He went to home. All right. Okay. But we're arguing over something we will never know what was going through his head. I don't even care what the answer was. I just wanted you to say that. I've got nothing. I think the red card is, I think it's a red card. Yeah. And I can see that. I can also, I can also see why people are saying red card. I was fuming when, when Van Dyke did that on Solanke last season and didn't get a red. I was fuming. Yeah. I was saying it should have been a red. Yep. Right. It was you. Yeah, of course I was. Well then why wasn't Simmons a red?
26:58Because he's our player and it puts us at a disadvantage. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, no, I agree with that as well. Yeah. I mean, I would have loved to have got away with it. I really would, but I just, I just thought we would, we growing into it. Frank needed it. It was just the wrong thing at the wrong time. I don't blame Javi Simmons. Like I said, I'm not, I'm not making a judgment on him as a player. He will come back, but we're losing for three games now. Like that's. No, immediately that's what I thought. And as well, there's always something in my mind, like when you give out a red card and it's quite early in the game, I was like, what's the time?
27:2930 minutes? I was like, too early for a red card. Surely just give him a yellow. If it's second half, red him up. Red him up. But I was just like, oh, the game's sport now. And what about Romero? I don't think that, looking back, I don't think he should have got. So it was a second yellow that he got that led to the red card. I think it was petulant. I think he was a child, but I don't think it was, I don't think it was a yellow card. I don't think it was a yellow offence. I don't think, from memory, I can't remember what he actually did. It was maybe like a little shove on the ground or something like that.
28:07He kicked out at a 90 degree angle with relative force with his studs and it hit the geezer on the arm. Have you not watched it back? I did watch it back, but I didn't really... It wasn't something I was like, wow, yeah, it's got to go. It's got to go. Even if you don't, even if he doesn't have to go, you disagree with it. And I know Thomas Frank disagreed with both of them.
28:40But it's stupid, isn't it? Yes. You've won the free kick. Canate's gone through the back of him. He's then landed on him. and then Romero then, because the guys landed on him, is then kicked out. Like, what if that was a cup final? What if it... He's got to be able to control his temper and he was rolled up from the minute one and I'm like, well, do you control it? This is the player he is, you want him and this is it. You know, he's Argentine, he has that sort of energy about him and spirit in him and, you know, Simeone, they're just bred to play that way and it's effective and they've produced some of the...
29:19I've just watched it again. It ain't that bad. Yeah, see? He's not that bad. I mean, I think he does catch his arm, and the guy goes, oh. No, he just kicks out at him. Yes, yes. Why do it? He shouldn't do it. He's the captain. He should be leading by example. But he was getting frustrated, and the reason why he's frustrated is because Frank's tattoo training. I'm just joking. I just, it was the... Did you think that Eketike fouled Romero for the goal? Yes, I do. Yeah, yeah, I do. You can see both hands on his back and you can see he gives him a shove and he goes forward and that's how he gets the jump on him.
30:04Do you know what's really worrying me? It's because you don't think it's a foul. No, I'm seeing fans of other clubs talking about this as a big club bias. and I'm like, I don't know, but well, hold on a second. We're a big club. Yeah. Oh, I see. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It can't be a big club. If two, if two big clubs are playing each, it can't be a big club guys, can it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're starting to think of us as a small club. All these fucking results, all these losses. We've just won a European, we just won a European trophy. What else do you want us to do? We've lost, we've lost so many games in the last 18 months.
30:40It's unreal. So painful. Mate, loads of games, like 20, what was it last year 22 in the league across to the entire league probably 27 maybe 20 28 across and then this season we've already lost another six no wonder we're so fucking happy unhappy it's hard it's hard going to the games knowing that you're probably gonna lose um can i uh just take a moment just in terms of us being uh unhappy yeah uh i did uh people all know and I'm not I'm not sort of bringing this up I'm only bringing up because it's relevant that the fact that we did some work with Tottenham on the uh to talk is to do campaign which is to reduce suicide at Christmas which is a really important thing and we did a podcast with them and um there is going to be a link to it to donate to Mickey Hazard's cause uh which is called legend on the bank bench in this description of this episode where you can donate to get these benches in in installed in your areas or wherever anybody thinks that they might go you can apply to have them installed in memory of his nephew jay who took his own life in 2019 and these are benches that sit in dark areas that are illuminated and with on the bench is a qr code where you can scan it and it gives you direct access to help like the samaritans and other charities that can help in moments of crisis so check the link in the description and if you have i'm not saying not many people do have lots of money to spare at this time of the year moreover given what's happening with the cost of everything if you can and you think it's a good cause um then click the link in the description and donate um yes so i think generally though what i liked about romero's play he was hitting so i did a podcast with harry brooks who were you listening to as well rick i did yeah and he was we were talking about some of the problems with frank system and and generally the issues that have been ongoing this season and centre-backs that pass and try and split the lines and pass into space and cause and create chaos.
33:04Romero is brilliant at it. And over and over again, three or four times, he hit the midfield, took the strikers out of the game or the forward line out of the game and kept doing it. And Van der Ven's brilliant and he's been heralded for his ability to run with a ball and carry and and that he's left foot but Romero's passing from a center back is just outrageously good yeah so it's good to see that and that's in the Frank system as well right so let's not take anything away from Frank when it's happening in front of our eyes while he's managers yeah but what I see is a frustration there Rick yeah it's I'm telling you that bloody frustration it'll get us all but uh yeah I mean it's that's like part of our um I was going to say a word then.
33:52I've got to try and think of a different word rather than say part of our ways in how we can attack. Let's just say that. We've scored a fair few goals from Romero doing that. And we hadn't seen that. So it was good to see that back. And the more we can do that, the more that we can kind of vary our attacking instead of just get it to Cuddus and he'll do the rest. We need to get those players on the ball more. We need to get Xavi, Romero doing those passes, Porro whipping the ball in, Spence, that kind of his underlaps that he does and drives forward. We need to see more of those things and to, I don't know, just to vary a lot of what we're doing.
34:44so I was kind of again as we lost to Liverpool and we had two men sent off there was a lot that I kind of took from the game and it was a weird one because Richie changing the game mate fucking hell I think I might have made a mistake I'm not saying he's good enough I will never say that to you Rick I will never say Richarlison is good enough to lead the line for Spurs sure but fuck me does he he is passionate and he does try and like he scored the goal again which is like his goal return per minutes on the pitch is insane um mate he gives a shit he wants to win more than anything I know it's Liverpool as well but yeah I thought I just loved it when he came on what did you what did you make of uh that like these are the little kind of underlying bits that I think made the game crackle as well so he scored and I don't know who it was who was who was who was laying down in the Liverpool net was it Ekotike I can't quite remember who it was and when Richarlison went to go and grabbed the ball and he kind of fell on Ekotike and like gripped him up by the back of the neck and then just ran off I was like what was that about I don't know and then as he's jogging back he squares up to the suboslies like yeah and fucking what didn't do anything but I loved that I was just like everyone was like proper pumped up.
36:12Like, right, we've got that girl. Just fucking go. I can see you have that. So I was like, you want some of this, do you? So I was like, yeah, mate, let's have it. Yeah, he does. He held his face down on the ground and his hand was around the back of his neck. Eat the grass, you little prick. Eat the grass. What are you going to want? Eat it. Do you like that? Do you? Eat it. It's proper sort of bully behavior. There was, this thing made me laugh and And I guess it's sort of slightly tongue-in-cheek, but it did make me chuckle. And probably where we've been for a while. And I can't fucking find it, Ricky, which is why I'm sort of clumsily feeling dead air.
36:56And I'm still doing that now. As I speak, no, Rick, leave me with it. Let me live in this. Let me live in this. As I speak, I'm adding nothing to this podcast while I scroll, trying to find a – I deserve this, Rick. Well, I tried to find a post that actually, as it lands now, probably isn't worth saying. But Chris, THFC13 says, when she approaches watching Tottenham Hotspur, I feel nothing when I watch this play. No hope, no anxiety, no belief, no excitement. I feel nothing and expect the worst. It's a weird feeling of grace to be in there, Rick. Yeah, it is. It is. But may I counter that? yes so the game on saturday we were tottenham fans were singing great atmosphere it felt good really got behind them felt felt excellent in there and i was like oh this is this is a bit different and then we were two nil down and i was like i had my my elbows on the you know the the safe standing bit looking down at my shoes as i always do thinking for fuck's sake then i could hear this noise around me everyone started singing everyone was singing and feeling positive they were feeling positive it felt like there was pride and i was like what's fucking going on here i was like we don't do it we this is the bit where we do this is the boo bit and the booing the booing the embers for the ref as well weren't it clearly yeah oh yeah yeah clearly clearly so i was like i had mixed feelings like i'd been i was on the do you know what it felt like i was in church and we were singing a hymn and everyone starts singing and I thought I was on the right page but I wasn't and I'm flicking through them like I don't know what this is we're singing positively Tottenham songs and I was like fucking great yeah got involved and it just really gave the whole place a lift and I swear it gave those players a lift and then we scored and then it went up another notch and it's kind of like everyone's getting a bit of the needle and everyone's, you know, busting their gut to get forward and to get the draw.
39:06So whilst your man there says anxiety. It's a lady. Oh, was it really? Okay. My apologies. About no hope and a lot of the kind of stuff that they were saying. In that stadium, even though we lost, I did actually feel hope. I did feel. a couple of times before like what you're talking about that feeling of like what that is is stoicism and only the most intelligent and alighted individuals can be a stoic right which is in the advent of um you know a disappointing situation something that happens that you can't control as we in in that stadium and you're watching the team lose and you know red cards are being given out and consistently being, you know, underperforming, that you find a way of reconciling all of that because you can't control it.
40:02And all you can control is how you feel about it. So in that moment, en masse in that stadium, going down to another loss, only four wins in a calendar year, that the fans in that moment decided in unison is a way of sort of osmosis where we're sharing between us this feeling of we need to actually react to this differently than the way we do usually, which is... Yeah. Boo. Yeah. Boo. Boo. Boo. Now it's like they don't need to hear that anymore. That what they need to hear is us fighting for them. Yeah. And there was one time when I've heard that before where I remember when Wanda Rommas was 2.5, in eight games the Wolves of two in 17 two in 17 we had two in eight and we played Wigan and we drew nil nil and that I remember the atmosphere in that day at White Hart Lane being one of the best I've ever been a part of it's yeah so that's why that yeah I mean that's the hope that I have and I know right okay we're all sitting here and Frank Ball it's you know it's not really working it's disjointed we're neither excellent at defending or excellent going forward and there's no green shoots and stuff like that and we were losing 2-0 but at that point when everyone just started singing and believing in the team I don't know where it came from but it was just a beautiful moment being in the stadium and feeling like it was that connection again do you know i mean it was like that feeling that i'd lost there was a spark there was a you know you know the pilot light in my boiler come back into life and i was like do you know what this is even though we're losing this is yeah yeah that sound when in in the night yeah and that's the heat of fire Yeah, that's exactly what it was.

42:07And as well. Do it, Rick.
42:16When Romero got sent off, like your captain, your leader gets sent off. Second player sent off. There was a, yeah, we stood up and we clapped Romero walking off, being sent off. And I was like, this is different. Yeah. that's the thing I'm not going to stop doing it I'll never stop doing it I felt something in me and I thought do you know what yeah we've lost but I feel like I've got a bit of my Tottenham back as in how we feel collectively as a fan base it just felt felt different so let a fire up under our asses yeah look this is it this is what I'm talking about. Like, is it that it's like you're, we're in the position with, we're there.
43:08Everyone accepts that this isn't great. It's shit. It's really shit. And, and, and I think what happened against, in those moments, Ricky, against Liverpool, where the fans got together and, and then actually were responding in a positive way as opposed to booing is that those ones perhaps, I might be being idealistic here. Those ones who did boo previously realized we can't do this anymore. And actually the rest of the people in that stadium, the rest of the fans in that stadium realized that this perhaps anticipating that that might happen. So behind them, which is infectious as well. Yeah. So yeah.
43:50And hopefully we can just carry it like that feeling. I think I saw the post interview with Thomas Frank and he was talking about the fans and he was talking about the, you know, the last quarter of the match and how they, they raise the noise and got the players playing and that they can take that and take it into the next game against palace. Now palace is how far is palace away a week? Uh, yeah, it's exactly right. Okay. So we've got that as we've, we've got that and we can focus on that. It's got battered for one by bleeds, by the way. Yeah, exactly. So maybe we can use that, go to Palace and pick up three points and it might be the start of something.
44:33It might not be, but... Because this is just about feeling good about a football club now, right? We know we can't get into the Champions League places properly. Yeah, yeah. And, you know, we may, if we can get momentum, have a decent cup run. Yeah. But really, it's about feeling good about a football club now, which is the best way to be because all we have to do is win a few games and generally everybody, like the expectation is gone. It's gone. There's no expectation from what you expect Spurs to be this season now. So if it's gone, then small wins matter and small wins could be free on the trot in the Premier League.
45:09We would be buzzing because all the expectation, all the intangible, you know, the parts of what potentially people want from a season before it started have faded into the ether, right? We are where we are and everyone accepts it. So now it's about just winning games and feeling good about our football club. And that's not a bad place to be if you just want to feel good. It's a bad place to be if finishing the top four or having a title challenge is your be-all and end-all. And that's where you want to be. But we're not there now. Accepting that and understanding of our position and just looking for those small wins may be the way forward.
45:51But I do have some bad news for you, Rick. Oh, God. so Fiorentina have approached Tottenham director Fabio Perattici to appoint him as a new head of football yep and there's been lots of news coming out to say that it's more or less done and you're like well we've we've backed you remember when everyone else called you like a treat and a fucking you know crim crim dog yeah a crim delay yeah we fucking gave you a job and now what Fiorentina comes along and now you're just going to go just bugger off Friantino bottom of the league mate never won a game in the domestic season not won a game I think they won one at the weekend did they win last weekend yeah yeah yeah last weekend 5-1 or something like that really maybe that's the paratity effect I'm using my article but like he he's just signed a contract to be like one of our directors of football you've just literally a couple of months ago you came back in your band was up and we were like come on we still got your seat we still got your coffee mug he just doesn't give a shit this kid does he he'll do whatever he ever he can to gain an advantage in every aspect of his life he's not giving a fucking shot we're a week away from our transfer from the transfer window he's obviously been doing work in terms of who we can approach what players we should get in and now the fucker's going off to Fiorentina right I mean do you know what I say stay until the transfer window's done you owe us that and then once it closes then you can go to Fiorentina.
47:29Now it's I mean he's gone he's gone I mean if you read read all of the reports he's he's gone. Wow really? Yeah Yahoo Sports I don't know if that's good but Fiorentina inching closer Perattici set to terminate Tottenham contract Tottenham brace for approach from Fiorentina. okay right so what what does this mean fab what do you want what do you want what do you want to do do you want the exact same role role you'll get a Fiorentina at Tottenham is that what you want do you want to go back to Italy what do you want mate because right now you know we've got we need your sex appeal when you're going into that room convince players to ruin their career with us they won't think they're doing that when they join no I've come here to win trophies that's what they'll say and they'll leave going what was what happened who am i that was a bad decision well actually one of those things in uh the van de ven interview he was saying about ang and he was saying that before each game and spoke to them he said he like ang had this way of getting into the players and feeding on their emotions getting like into their heart and being like talking up how they were going to win the game and how they're going to play and van de ven said no matter what happened or whoever we played after he'd spoke we just got up and we're like we're going to smoke this team we're going to smoke this team and i was like that is that is something isn't it like whether you say angie's the right man the wrong man and finishing 17th and all that lot but if your manager can rouse that kind of uh emotive feeling in you to be like whoever we're playing we're going to fucking smoke them playing our way and i just think i don't know with frank i don't think that really he communicates in that way it's very different isn't it yeah so if you've got langer and you've got frank and you're waiting to get a firework under your ass you're not going to get that are yeah yeah they need to find a new director of football or something i don't know just find signs and fucking players good ones signs are good ones i don't care what's going on i've had enough uh ian ramez ramirez he says i was listening to the fighting cock in the car the other day and the wife said is that harry came talking now i can't unhear it are you Kane's voice doppelganger?
50:03To who? Me or you? Me. Oh. I'm going to block him.
50:11Blocked. That's what happens, mate. That's what happens. Nick Harrington says, what's it going to take for the board to pull the trigger? Surely the chance of no European football next season should be setting off alarm bells. I don't think they're going to pull the trigger. I think they like if you think did Venkatesian pull the trigger when Arteta wasn't doing well at Arsenal in the first couple of seasons when they finished eight no no he gave them time and patience and supported him so more money more money more players that's the key isn't it yeah just give us just keep spending yeah just keep spending yeah yeah yeah spend your way out of it you can spend your way out of anything yeah um what we talked about the fans sorry I'm going through the questions now and haven't read them clubs are shambles this is from Paddy what club loses a sporting director a week before transfer window opens and
51:13we'll finish on this and this is what are you on on Instagram it says not much of an observation but just an observation not much of a question but just an observation that I found your talk to do episode very powerful it wasn't ours it was the clubs very much but I facilitated it I've been up and down quite sorry I've been up and quite far down with my mental health this year and while I was doing therapy and work to move through it which I have now fingers crossed all the stats in the in the in the country suicide drug deaths loneliness alcohol deaths point to there being a lot of blokes suffering in silence and many in the demographic that listen to the fine cock I I thought you dealt with the series, issues and conversations in the way that felt sufficiently reverent to the subject matter, but also that felt true to the podcast.
52:03My only negative feedback. Well, do you want me to say the positive things, mate? Yeah, yeah. Hold up there. Hold up. What are you going to say? My only negative feedback is that I listened to it on the way to the Liverpool game. Oh, it's not about us. Oh, good. Good. Thank God. Thank God. And cried twice, once on an unbelievable round tube in Seven Sisters. And while I'm all in for you guys showing their emotions, I didn't feel like that was the time or place. Can't blame you for that, though, really. Well done to you and everyone involved at the Spurs. Thank you, mate. Yes, so remember, just to sort of draw a line, because the kind of campaign is over, well, not over.
52:43We'll always continue, but our role in working with Spurs at this current stage is over. and so it is you know we will release we will release this two or three days before Christmas day Christmas day can be a really difficult time for lots and lots of people where football results and who what players might sign and whether or not Paratachi will be our sporting director come the new year paling to insignificance to the serious problems that we're all going through in football podcasts watching Spurs play listen to pundits talk are all way of separating ourselves from issues that we all have in our lives and that's fine it's generally quite healthy to give yourself a break from the things you're suffering from but sometimes these problems are so great and so impactful that you can't and football doesn't manage to give you the respite that you hoped it would or it used to do so if you are this Christmas feeling in a way that you can't cope or you feel like a problem's a mountain and you may often feel like those problems aren't significant enough to talk about you're wrong they are and reach out to your friends reach out to your family and if you don't want to burden them with the difficulties you're facing which is really the position of a lot of people in difficulty I often don't when I feel stressed and and upset about stuff I won't reach out to my friends or my family I'll kind of hold on to it and hope it goes away or do things to make it go away but if you are feeling that way then um and you don't you don't feel like you can talk to you know people closest to you then call the Samaritans number because I know firsthand uh from talking to people this week and working with Spurs how much Samaritans help and the impact they do have so um yeah wherever you are just google the Samaritans number there are local services but if you if you if you're not sure who else to call then it's 116123 all right Ricky you're a legend I love you mate love you too you have a great Christmas and everyone listen to this have a great Christmas don't let Spurs get you down right we'll be back up I'm making you feel better very soon, I'm sure they will.
55:06But until then, we've got each other. Love you boys and girls, and love you Rick. Bye. Ho, ho, ho. It's Santa here. And don't forget, it's time to be jolly. It's the boy.
55:25It's the boy. Talk. It's the boy.
55:33It's the flame. Cook. Come on, son. No.

We somehow turned a Spurs pod into sinkhole chat, canal-boat paranoia, and then a genuinely weird, rare thing: feeling a bit of pride after losing to Liverpool. Two red cards, a ref performance that made no sense, and yet the stadium noise actually lifted us. We get into Romero’s chaos, Spence looking class, Richarlison coming on like a man possessed, and whether the players are actually buying what Frank’s selling. Plus a quick word on the To Talk Is To Do campaign and why it matters this time of year.
