In short
Tottenham Hotspur discussion focused on Thomas Frank’s future, the Conor Gallagher signing, squad quality (especially midfield), and fan protests/pressure on the club’s owners. The episode also includes comedy banter and a brief “Q&A Thursday” segment.
Guests and backgrounds
John “Big John” Basso (Spurs fan/podcast host). James Regal (comedian; in Barcelona showing a potential roommate; previously appeared on the show). Alice and Nick are referenced as part of the hosts’ broader podcast universe, but the main guest is Regal.
Key claims
- Bringing in Johnny Heitinger as assistant suggests Thomas Frank may stay “at least until the end of the season.”
- Conor Gallagher is viewed as a high-quality, experienced midfield upgrade that helps cover for weak central midfield depth.
- Young midfielders (Bergvall, Gray, Saar) may be underutilized by system/manager style; not necessarily “write them off.”
- Fans are right to protest because the club’s promised direction and spending (including a £100m injection) hasn’t matched results.
Notable examples
- Spurs’ poor performances (Palace win; Brentford/Villa games mentioned).
- Gallagher’s Champions League/captain experience cited.
- Debate references Aston Villa fans attacking a host online; also Spurs’ sale of Brennan Johnson to fund/enable moves.

1:29Hello, John, boy. What, son? Yeah, it's Thursday. You don't know what that means, but there's no football on. My favourite podcast to do, of all the millions of podcasts I do, and obviously now an additional podcast that you have to do, is the Q &A Thursday podcast. Just chill out, relax. We don't have to worry about what happened previously and why we've just been beaten by X team. We can just chew the fat and talk about Spurs, and there's tons to talk about. but before we do I don't know I'm you know I'm a big admirer of yours John Bass oh thanks mate I'm a big fan big supporter you know and I'll back everything you do however I thought your performance on Monday was 6 out of 10 that's fine right standard exactly it's like Conor Gallagher right so you know you come in you did your bit and you left I think the whole podcast felt a bit like that right however I looked at the Spotify comments and clearly I was mistaken.
2:31So Fizzy Dillbelly, Berry, says, Big John, spot on again. Define the way we play and align everyone from board to exec to management, staff and players. Problem is the club have been run like a corporation with no regard for glory. Even when we got the taste of glory with a quarter of a million people in the street, we still reacted incoherently to appoint John the pragmatist. Not you, John. Vinay chose Frank, and now he's hiding at the awful decision. All the goodwill from Bilbao has been destroyed, and the players are clearly lost. It didn't stop there, John. Wow. Big John providing yet another therapy session for us on a Wednesday.
3:11Not all heroes wear capes. I would say John is wearing, I mean, it's not a cape, but a wonderful smother. He's got on at the moment an Abbey Crombie and Fitch number. Yeah, it's a rather natty cardigan. it's pretty it is quite leery it's a bit of a rascal clubber but I quite like it yeah and then finally Matt Martin says Fighting Cock is the Wu-Tang Clan of podcasts start off together stay together and create multiple individual podcasts of quality good work fellas well that's nice isn't it that's good to hear I was thinking about what all of you all of you lot would do if I hadn't started the Fighting Cock all back in the year I'd just be doing what I was doing before mate just locked in a quiet room wanking into a corner just on my own crying we're gonna we're gonna be joined by um james regal who's comedian's been on a couple times before um but he's currently showing his flat around in barcelona to a lady who likes to host sex parties that he was unaware of so we'll get the lowdown on that when he joins this podcast uh it shouldn't be too long um uh good good first week for your podcast the big john basso A lot of people didn't realise you put H in.
4:24So there's been two big controversies from this podcast. One, people are now finally realising my name doesn't have a H in, despite the fact they follow me. So my name literally doesn't have a H in. So that was interesting. But we got over that, and I said on the pod, anyone who went to the extra effort of thinking my name had a H in it, but still managed to find the pod anyway, like extra kudos for that. Legend. And then the other controversy was apparently, like, I just drink loads of water. Now, I was trying to be conscious of the fact that when I was drinking water on the pod to, you know, move my head away from the mic and try not to make it a big thing.
4:59Right. But apparently, I just drink loads of water. Like, I'm basically just, you know, half speaking. Just underwater for half the pod. So, yeah, that was interesting. But, yeah, mate, it was really good. and obviously like you know a lot of people from uh fighting cock listeners have come over to listen to that as like additional content in the fighting cock universe which is really lovely so um yeah thanks to anyone that's listened if anyone hasn't then comes out every wednesday so feel free and from uh the poddingham podcast poddingham podspur podspur podcast who um i've been on his podcast and i've published that podcast on the lab feed another podcast um he said another podcast i'll add it to my spreadsheet so um expect a message from ian in uh in due course john boy um did you did you see uh today it seems like a couple of itks have come out and generally noise from the club uh is is that thomas frank will be given at least the end of the season um we've brought in a new assistant to him who will work it's uh johnny heisinger do you remember him yeah i remember him Ajax.
6:11He played for Everton, didn't he, as well? Yeah, he played for Everton. Ajax, I think he might have been capped for Holland as well. Yeah, he definitely played for Holland, for sure. He was in that era. And, yeah, so he's been brought in to support him, which would suggest there is a there is an idea that Thomas Frank should be around for the foreseeable. And even if he isn't, we have to bring in capable people who can navigate the pitfalls of management in the modern era where you just don't last long and you can't just keep replacing everybody at the club every single time you replace a manager right just it just doesn't how do you build coherence if that's the fact for every club it was in i was listening to a brentford the brentford chairman and he was doing some sort of panel and it was just like a 90 second clip i just found it really interesting because he was like saying i just didn't i don't what's Come on.
7:09Oh, all right, James. There he is. You don't say hello, you just wave. This is a podcast, an audio podcast. I'm not going to just come and scratch his mic. Scratch his mic. Scratch his mic. Brilliant. Speak, man. You guys good? I'm good. You look happy. Why are you happy? So it's just a nice sunny day here in Barcelona, my friend. No, no, that's not it. We've already established that there's going to be sex parties at your new, your new place. Oh, that's been discussed already, is it in my absence yeah of course did you have fun on your little podcast the little podcast you go could i come on again please right you said you the most interesting thing that's been said to me today james is uh i'm just gonna show a new roommate around potential roommate around my house well i'm because i've got to come to england to do some work and stuff for a few weeks i need someone to look after the cat in the house but i checked her out on social media and she likes to throw sex parties that was the most interesting thing i've heard today yeah is she going to be looking after your house while you're away in in uh in england uh i mean that's that's to be determined flav um but obviously i have a strict uh no sex parties in my house when i'm not here rule yeah i think you're the most sexually active man i've ever met i that's hard to know if that's a good thing or a bad thing really wow it's a good thing yeah yeah i just every time i look at you i think that man likes to put his penis in things yeah they do call me a top shagger it's true what is top shagger in spanish el top shaggino what is yeah that's exactly right what is it uh i don't know if you have a word for top shagger what's the spanish word for shag I mean, foyar means to fuck, basically.
8:57El primo foyar, something like that. It's primo? It'd probably be something like el que foya. It's like the man who fucks. I love it. Yeah, that's you. What were we talking about? Johnny Heitinger joining Spurs basically means that we're not getting rid of Frank anytime soon. No, yeah, we're not getting rid of him. And the Brentford chairman was saying, how much he look he just doesn't understand the fact that managers bring in an entire backroom staff and when you sack the manager or he wants to leave it guts the club in the way that Frank did when he left and as much as a club can be in control of such things it's about putting things in place in order for the departure of a manager or a player or whoever it might be is is as least impactful as possible and it kind of that's what I'm saying but Johnny Heisinger is that how you say his name isn't it?
9:59the fact that he's coming in should be not just to support Thomas Frame but to support if he's really good at his job to support whoever is managing Tottenham Hotspur and and the next manager is saying you ain't bringing all your mates like if you're like you want to manage Spurs you're not bringing all your mates we've got Johnny Heisinger here right he's going to run things for a little bit right it will let you know when you need backroom staff. Anyway, James, we haven't spoken to you for a while. And can you do me a favor and just check definitely that your mic is selected rather than your earphones?
10:35Just because it sounded a bit tinny before. I'd rather say it now than just the whole podcast. So just, where is your mic? Hold it up. I don't have enough time to connect everything up. So that might be why it sounds shit. Nice one, mate. Yeah, nice, thanks. I mean, you know, if he's only my livelihood. That's right. I mean, if it's that important to you, maybe give me more than five minutes notice. I did ring him again. We need one for the pod. I've got this fucking sex pest coming around to look after my house. I ain't got time to set it up. All right, no problem. Yeah, so where are you at with Thomas Frank now, mate?
11:13I'll tell you now, the last couple of games, I was at full head loss. I'm generally someone who likes to give a manager time I have a lot of patience I obviously don't get to watch us live that often but I got the chance to go to the Palace game which we won amazingly enough but it was so bad and then I watched Brentford as the follow up and then that first half against Villa and I'm just like get him gone I don't care who comes in I can't watch this anymore and let's just get Pochin in the summer and let's go full vibes. Yeah, that's where I've been at. Inexplicably, for some reason, I think he's going to turn it around.
11:54I don't know why. Against every fibre of my being and everything that I understand, I'm just thinking, it can't be this shit. He must not. He was able to create something for Brentford last year that was decent. They scored 66 goals. Only five teams scored more than Brentford. or four teams called Moreland-Brentford last year. And I don't know if Conor Gallagher is the guy that's going to do it. Maybe not. I don't know. There's a lot of people talking about profiles and he's not the right player and whatnot. He is a good, very good player and I have no issue with the signing. What do you boys make of the signing, John Boy?
12:34Mate, I think it's good. I get what people are saying about needing a, I'm using proper like modern football terms, progressive passer. But I get why people want that because, you know, We've got a lot of ball carriers. We've got a destroyer in Paulina. We are missing a sort of more creative spark in that sense. But we have just seen Bentancourt cropped again, and we don't particularly love him as an option there. So it is an improvement on the other options there, like Gray, Bergvold, Saar, all quite young and still early. And you wouldn't say they would be sort of ripping up trees at this moment in time.
13:09So bringing in Conor Gallagher does make a lot of sense. I think like longer term you sell Benteco and he just takes his space in the squad you still need a progressive passer but it's got to be the right one right and I know that to a certain extent the Connor Gallagher deal is a little bit of an opportunity and we've taken that but he is like perfect age like great experience now I think he's a leader as well on the pitch which is important especially in midfield which I think we definitely need that but we've got handsome really handsome really handsome the most important for sure so that's good because we're back to you know handsome fc which is nice but we still need to sign this progressive possible it can't just be anyone right and like i don't again i don't think january is necessarily the best time for deals now it's not my job to identify players and it does always annoy me i know we spoke about this other day where it's like the window opens and then they're like oh we need to start looking it's like you should always be looking for these players i don't know who they are but if we can't get them in january then we have to just be a bit careful that we don't just try and sign anyone who's half decent at passing because we also have a talent gap between the teams that are above us and so if we just stock the squad up with lower quality players that's also an issue so I get they're like he's not the right profile but he is high quality so whoever's this kind of high profile passer type person they have to be of a certain quality to move us forward so I like the signing a lot I think there's a lot of you know ticks in boxes plus as James alluded to if we get Potch back Potch is a massive fan I heard you and Harry Brooks talking about it on the lab he's a massive fan of Connor Gallagher so that's just like another reason to bring Potch back so yeah I think it's all around it's positive it feels good as well I feel like he's given us a bit of a lift I think he's got a level of like self-assured confidence that he'll bring to the pitch that that we need so yeah I'm all in mate what about you James how do you feel about the corner Gallagher I think uh initial reaction was just quite negative uh because that's just the way it is I was like no um because I think the first link was he was alone and then it was like veteran for him anyway uh but the more it started to sound like a more concrete thing I started to look into and I remember Chelsea only sold him because that was that period where they had to sell anyone they could profit and he had come through their youth ranks that he was first off the line but he was their captain as he said you know poch was playing a week in week out um so now i'm excited you know benton core's cropped he's not been good anyway i've seen a lot of the tacticos complaining on twitter that oh he's going to stun gray and bergval but these are two 19 year old kids that we should not be relying on to play first team football he's the perfect guy to come in for them to play with learn off so i like it and as you guys said uh very very handsome i could just imagine him playing next to bergval it's just going to be just like a wall of of just sex well i think uh that's troublesome um in a way because bergval's very young uh i believe he's an adult so what you're trying to say that's your that's your thinking is it yeah i mean we're all in our 40s right i mean should be talking about attractive young men really should be well it's funny you say that because all i was thinking is like why have you left out van de vent i mean if somehow in this new modern era two men can have a baby i'm sure it's gonna happen because a lot of people are gonna will it right here's the thing right now So, Flav, when you met your missus, right, she didn't – like Spurs wasn't on her radar.
16:51No. I see, right? You had to kind of – she had to learn to learn. And, John, I don't know about your missus as well. Yeah, same. So, I've just – I started dating my girlfriend about six months ago. She's really keen to get into – she's American. She's really keen to support the team, and she's never watched football before. But I played smash or pass with the entire squad with her. Right. And she passed – What did she go for? She passed on everyone except one player. She passed on Van der Vent? No, I think Van der Vent was the only one she said possibly smash, right? But everyone else she passed.
17:24And that's embarrassing. Well, because she's going out with you. In her eyes, she's like, you're the best looking person. That's great for your self-esteem, right? I mean, yeah, lovely. But also, you know, very embarrassing for the football club I support. Yeah, yeah. No, I mean, how you can't look at sort of...
17:49I can't think of a single one I would check, actually, apart from Van der Ven, probably. Maybe she's onto something. Maybe this is it. This is exactly why we need to... Not only are we overrating the quality of our footballers, but also how good-looking they are. Yeah, forget this. I tell you it's the worst-looking, Romero. Fucking horrible.
18:10Absolutely horrible. so I've had a bit of a week I don't want to make this about myself or anything but I got really unfairly attacked by Aston Villa fans after they beat us at the weekend I don't understand where it came from I've never had such a visceral reaction to Spurs losing from another fan base not even Arsenal, Chelsea or West Ham I get a bit from those when they beat us Villa it was weird it was like 20-30 messages are saying, ah, how's that feel? You're not shit. You always be shit, yo. Like that. It was like unbelievable. And I'm like, why has this happened? Like, I'm not bothered by it because they're just like gimps on the internet.
18:54But how did, why are Villa fans being so reactive to me? And me, after you just beat, why, like surely you've got better things to do than tweet me after we won. And then I looked, someone pointed me actually in the direction of the overlap the overlap have clipped up a conversation i've had about aston villa 24 months ago saying that they're a yo-yo club and they shouldn't be anywhere near the big six conversation a fill of fans have latched onto that been really made really angry by it and fucking give me a dog's abuse getting in my dms everything and I'm thinking alright well this is unnecessary I'm not it doesn't bother me too much but I think this is excessive, you just won a game of football and when we beat you 4-0 I didn't think about you at all so then when Gallagher turns them down two days later to join Tottenham instead of joining that heap I just had to tweet that there's a food chain to these things as much as you might be in a bit of a form Emery might be a great manager, but when it comes down to it, class is permanent, form is temporary, you little slags.
20:07So yeah, been a bit of a challenging week for me.
20:12Let's get to the questions then, because it is Q &A. Oh, another bit of abuse I received while I'm at it. Geezer on Twitter says, this is a reaction to the podcast we did with Harry Brooks about why Conor Gallagher is a good signing on the lab. If you haven't listened to it, go and listen to it. is a direct quote from me on the pod and he said on Reddit, he isn't what we need, but we can't pass up on an opportunity to sign such a player. And he said, I'm disappointed for Flav, not in me, but for me. Disappointed for Flav to be extolling one of the biggest flaws in our transfer dealings, making opportunity signings regardless of where they play.
20:52Rather than players, we need to cover our weak positions. And I'm just, I thought it was a fair question. Three likes on that. Wankers a lot. What, I thought it was a fair question, is it? Should we be buying players like Conor Gallagher who perhaps aren't addressing the immediate needs inside the first 11 or in the squad? Or if the opportunity, which is my point, to sign a player of obvious quality that improves the squad, we can't pass that up. Is that something that a bigger club might not do? Or if the opportunity to sign Conor Gallagher is there in front of us, why not sign him? Where are you at with that, John?
21:30So, like, generally speaking, I mean, we spoke about this at the start of the week. Generally speaking, I think, like, the club's overall strategy has been chaotic, including opportunistic signings that don't really make sense or haven't really made sense, and that have ended up costing us. So part of me is, like, about to contradict myself in saying that, but I understand it this time. Because the reason I understand it this time is I think it's not only opportunistic, but he is also better than what we currently have. so I know that people want a progressive passer but we don't just play with an exact 11 right you don't just have like that those 11 players and no one else it's a squad game the issue that we've got is that when you lose a couple of players you are down to as James said like a couple of 19 year old essentially rookie central midfielders that's no good right and every time we come up against It's the team that ends up turning us over.
22:23Teams that, in theory, we should be way ahead of. We list their midfield and go, oh, that midfield walks all over us. Yeah, because we actually don't have very high standard currently central midfielders, regardless of this progressive passer. So Conor Gallagher, alongside Paulina, makes our central midfield much better than it was last week. So I think that, aside from being opportunistic, is just a good sign-in. It's just a better eight in the midfield. And like I said, we still need to sign other players alongside that. But I think if it's opportunistic, as long as it improves the squad and improves the first 11 in this case, then it actually does make sense.
23:03I just think that because we've made opportunistic signings in the past, that we are a bit scared of this one. But if you don't take these chances, especially in the position we are now, right? It's not like your city where you basically decide who you want to sign and then they come to you. We do have to kind of make opportunistic sign-ins now because we don't have the same sway as we had before. So yeah, I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing at the minute. How do you feel about like, you know, the idea of being a little bit reactive? I know it's a problem that Spurs have been reactive in the past, but when someone like Conor Gallagher comes across, should we just actually take that money and focus it on something that we really, really need rather than just buying another good player? I mean, first of all, I agree with everything John said. Secondly, we just saw does all the time yeah well he's a wise he's a wise and big man um now well you know we just also just sold brennan johnson for more or less the same fee so you know i know football finances you know amortization and blah blah blah but ultimately you know it's 35 out 35 in oh vice versa actually 500 grand in in in the green there we go you know and levy's not even here anymore so he'd be proud um i i think you know the other thing is what that person is failing to take into account is uh we are shit uh and he is a good footballer yeah so bringing in a good footballer not only just a good way clear you know he's got a good mentality he's fingers crossed as a good fitness record i hate to sound a bit reform here but he's young he's english yeah Yeah, of course.
26:02Don't worry about selling reform here, mate. You're in good company. This has totally nothing to do with anything, but have you seen UKIP's new logo? Oh, my God. Do you mean UKIP, a.k.a. the Fourth Reich? Yes, I have seen it. Yeah, yeah. And they're like, oh, no, no, just because the Nazis used it doesn't mean it's a Nazi symbol. And by the way, this is a Charlie Chaplin. Oh, my God, I've just Googled it. It's absolutely mental. Christ, what are they thinking? Yeah, but their explanation is hilarious. What was it? We watched the first half American History X and we loved it and then turned it off.
26:36Basically, it was saying, oh, this is an old Christian cross that has been around. You know, it just so happens we also are a right-wing political party. Oh, by the way, this moustache, that's Chaplin. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But surely, I don't want to go down this and John, please don't chip in, right? But if you've got reform, why do you need UKIP? I don't know, maybe I'm being, I don't know enough. I'd say based on the logo I'd say don't chip in based on the logo to be more racist I'd say is probably their aim yeah yeah yeah yeah anyway yeah Colin Gallagher definitely votes UKIP I think that's what I was trying to say well you brought it up you derailed yourself yeah true true but yeah no young English talented coming into I think it's it's a smart and you know here's the other thing we've been really bad at selling players right we've that's a known thing for a while i think actually the most encouraging thing is has been us selling johnson at the earliest opportunity regardless of what happened with kudos it doesn't matter if kudos if johnson was still here i just began angry watching brennan johnson pretend to play football every week it was so like if karlika comes in and he is better than benton core better than sar then those two get sold because that's what elite football clubs do they sell players that aren't as good as the ones to bring in it so fine uh the podcast a recent podcast i did with anatole um on the on the lab um he made a really sort of obvious but really succinct and and interesting point is that the biggest clubs can sell players and not even blink like they don't even because it doesn't hurt them because they've got a structure and a place the recruitment strategy in place it means that they can be replaced or they already have something in their squad um and and so we we shouldn't be worried about selling our top goal scorer from last year it shouldn't even register into our thinking unless he's genuinely delivering on the pitch and then you might think actually well if we're selling our better players and that's an issue but when johnson was sold bearing in mind he barely played any any football this year anyway 35 million pound at this stage is excellent business and um likewise bringing Conor Gallagher in, I think, his excellent business and also selling Valise for 10 million euros, apparently, we're going to get for Valise.
28:58Yeah, just sensational. Anyway, let's do some questions here. Believe in Big Ange. Too late. Pap Sarr has been called up to the Senegal squad at AFCON, but he's played a total of nine minutes the whole tournament. I love Pap, but is this evidence that the talent in our squad is not good enough to be competing in the top level of the Premier League. In fact, he's not played any minutes for Senegal. I don't know who's... Senegal's midfield might be incredible. I don't know who plays... James, tell me who's in Senegal's midfield, please. No. Okay, John? No idea. All right. Well, obviously, whoever it is, they're better than fucking Papsar.
29:43The thing is with Papsar, because I've heard this a few times now about like... And for me, it's the same with Bergwell, same with Gray. They're clearly talented. There's something there. But at this moment in time, they're obviously not top level. They're not at the level, say, for example, of a Conor Gallagher, someone who's played Champions League football for a really decent team and performed really well and been a captain of a Premier League side. So obviously, they're not at that level. To me, it also feels like a coach thing, right? Like, what is our biggest complaint about Thomas Frank?
30:14is that we just try and get it up the line, Takouda, hold it, and then spam balls into the box. That's not really conducive to getting the most out of young midfielders, central midfielders, is it? They're just literally being hung out to dry in my eyes. I personally feel like if you had a manager, and I'll just use Potch as an example, if you had a manager like Potch who wants to work with young players and gets the most out of them and did move someone forward like Conor Gallagher, that you can't do the same thing with Saar, Graeme, Bergvold. Now, I guess the issue is that there's only so many places in the midfield and you know you've got to try and get this progressive passer that we want in there and you need potentially like for certain games a destroyer like a palina fine but as we know in a modern game it's not 11 men anymore and we're playing in you know hopefully next season four competitions you need a squad of players that can come in i just think that we haven't done a particularly great job especially under frank of finding a way to get these players in and getting the most out of them so i think under a different manager playing a different system that's asking those players to do different things you might see a little bit more out of them so I wouldn't be writing them off and also look Paulina's only alone we don't know if the the club plans to keep him they might decide that they don't want to in which case then actually we don't have this like huge overstock of numbers if you sell Benzicore and Paulina goes then it's back to actually like a completely manageable number so I don't know we just don't know what's going to happen so I think it's too early to be worried about those type of players for the minute unless unless we can significantly improve on them, like with the Conor Gallagher thing.
31:45If there's another player that comes in and there's just too many and one's got to go, one's got to go. This is like we've been talking about. One thing we all moaned about was not selling players at the right time. Now we're doing it, people are kicking off about it. So we have to at some point make this turn of being a bit ruthless with a player. And if the people at the club don't feel, I'll use Saar as the example, they don't feel he will make it, then we have to sell him. But at the minute, I don't think he's been given a fair enough go to see if he can actually make a difference for us. The midfielders that he's competing with is Drissa Gay of Everton and Habib Diara of Sunderland and Papa Gay of Villarreal.
32:30So they're obviously better than them or suit the system better.
32:35Someone says here, James, first application 11 Big Andrew's director of football shaping the direction and mentality of a football club am I crazy on this one? I've had similar thoughts it's like he's such a vibes man he obviously knows football but I mean first of all there's no way he'd come back so it's just a moot point anyway but I've since since like this is how you know the season's got bad because I've been doing this as well we're now in in the fan fiction phase of supporting Tottenham I was daydreaming the other day you know We bring Potch back. He gets Vertonghen as an assistant. And then Harry Kane comes back, not next season, but the season after for a final hurrah.
33:16And I'm genuinely getting excited as if that was going to happen. So I say, yeah, and let's bring in Big Ang, director of football above it all. You know, give us, not a team talk, because that would be weird for a director of football, but maybe like, you know, in their quarterly AGM, they do with all coaching staff, player staff. Big Ang comes in, does one of his speeches, and then him and Poch take us to the treble. It's funny you say that because you've got a question here who says, I will dominionate. He says, if you could have one of them back, Poch or Kane, what would it be? Kane. Yeah, it was the best strike in the long.
33:56So I don't want to say, I want to whisper this. I don't really want to say it out loud, right? But I've watched a few of Kane's recent goals. it is dog meat that league honestly it is garbage it is so bad like I know I know like there's this sort of big this thing about English fans banging on about the Premier League it's like a different sport to every other league in Europe the goal that Kane scored the other day was a worldie he curled it off he hit the crossbar and the post he was in the box and there was not a single defender near him so I'm not saying don't give him back 100 % getting back but I'm just thinking like I think he sold himself short going to a dog meat league I really do thing is Matt if he came back though just think of this season right if someone just clipped up every single Richarlison miss they're all goals because Kane scores every single one right so we're top we're top of the league so you just you know make it work not even just the goals but every time like the ball bounced off his shin or he smashes a pass out you know for a throw in Kane is I'd love to see him come back because say we had Poch right I think he probably still wants to play a relatively high press Kane's probably going to be too old to do that but imagine him sort of just dropping more into a kind of 10 role in his later years the same way Rooney did he'd be the best 10 in the league yeah he'd just do the Ericsson role for us like just threading passes and just like being creative it'd just be amazing yeah and he'd still score bundles of goals so yeah it'd be great I actually think the sensible decision, which is, you know, not in best interests of the fighting cock, but I think, do you think overall perhaps a manager who's competent and sort of fit into the ethos of the football club on what we really want from it might be holistically more impactful than bringing back Chunky?
35:50Slug. Slug. Bringing back the slug. I mean, like, yes, I think, like, well, James, you mentioned it earlier, right? Like, you want Potch back. I would want him back. I think there's a lot of reason to bring him back because of the same reason we're talking about Ange being director of football. He gets the club. He understands what it means. My biggest complaint with Frank is not even the results. It is the performance. I can't watch it. I find it unbearable to watch because I don't know what we're doing. We don't play in a positive passing the ball through the middle of the pitch type way. It's all just very agricultural and it's pretty UKIP football.

36:29let's be honest, is pretty grim. So that's my major issue. And I do think Potts would just understand that and get that. So that would definitely be a big reason if you had the option between the two of them. But it's just so hard not to go for a player who scores like 35 goals every season. And he just will continue to because it's, in a way, remember when we were younger, right? Quick strikers, when they got old and they lost their legs, they'd have to like sort of change the way they played to be more of a hold-up striker. and now teams sit so deep you don't really see players getting like played in with pace and then going around the keeper and scoring like you just don't see those goals anymore because defenses are so deep that actually suits Kane like he has never really had to change his game because the game sort of adapted in a way where pace isn't that important for strikers really now and he's still just so much more uh he's so much quicker than everyone else in the brain still that he'll just I think he'll score loads of goals late into his like career a bit like Ronaldo just score loads of goals still.
37:27I didn't even want Potch back because I think he would be good or turn us into league winners. At this point I just want to feel something again. Honestly, if he just came back, imagine the first press conference that he's in and he's like I'm here to finish the job I never got to finish. I mean, fine, we might end up 10th that season, but it would be nice. Right now I feel nothing. I feel absolutely nothing. you know i tell you i does a really good job i listened to to trunks uh podcast this rule the podcast and he talks about thomas frank's press conference demeanor and how he's always saying stuff like well you know we don't really deserve to be in the champions league because it's like first of all fuck you yes we do but then he he he then like says what he would say in that position and it's almost word perfect you can tell he worked in communications but it's it's such like an obvious thing.
38:23You don't even have to mean it or believe it, but just say, this is a top football club. I'm here to win. This side, this team I'm managing won the first major trophy at Tottenham for like three decades if you're not counting League Cups. They are 100 % a Champions League competitors and we're here to win that as well. Not, oh, well, you finished 17th last year so we shouldn't really be here anyway. Fuck off. Yeah, it's mental. Yeah. He's not helping himself in that respect, is he? No. James says if Wharton wanted to come to Spurs and was available for£100 million would you expect the club to pay it?
39:01I think this kind of leans into something that's happening this Saturday so change for Tottenham are they're putting together another march and another bit of fan action in order to put the pressure on Enoch you know the Lewis children as people seem to call them which always feels a bit weird because they're like older than me But to put pressure on them to start behaving in a way that means that we could potentially dream of one day competing with the other clubs that we consider to be our peers.
39:36So they made some comments when they took over. They injected the£100 million into the club, which is£100 million of cash, which you can do a lot with. It's not just buying one£100 million player with the amortisation. You can do a lot with£100 million in cash, right? So that to me was a nod towards what potentially could be possible now that Daniel Levy has been removed. And given the start to the season, which has been horrendous, which is not on Enoch, the start to the season has been horrendous and the transfer window halfway through, now we are, has been pretty... pretty, it hasn't been as seismic as people wanted or hoped.
40:20Like, Conor Gallagher is a good sign in, but it feels reactive, despite the fact that, you know, I think he's going to be great for the club. But there hasn't been this sort of aggressive, go out and get the player we need to get. And so there is a move to march and to, you know, create pressure and to ensure that Enoch can keep up their side of the bargain. so there's two questions I guess is one do you think they would go out and spend £100 million on a player and two what do you think of the march on Saturday James go on if you want to tackle that or I mean a player like Wharton you pay whatever you need and that is something if they're serious about what they're saying that they should go and do now I don't know if he comes to Tottenham I mean the good thing is a lot of our rivals are kind of quite set in that position for now but you never know I don't think as well it won't be the fee, it will be the wages and historically we've not been a team to stump up those wages we will be now so yeah, whatever it takes, bring him in he is a game-changing midfielder that ticks so many boxes the march the club are very sly aren't they because every time one of these comes up they do something they take some action that just takes the anger a little bit out of something like that whether it's sign a player or bring in a coach or a manager or whatever they just announce this sporting director guy who as far as I'm aware is mostly just a kind of a numbers guy anyway

But yeah, I think fans are feeling passionate enough to go out there and state their voice than they should do it. I think it's probably good that it shows that it wasn't just a levy thing. This is about more than just one man. This is about the behavior of the club and the complete lack of direction.
44:25so I think if you want to enact change you've got to do something about it so fair play to anyone who does go we're not an easy fan base to rile up we're not a Liverpool or a Newcastle that really turn out in numbers I think a lot of Tottenham fans look at something like that and go that's not very cool, that's a bit lame but then they'll happily moan all day about how crap we are so go for it let's see if it works um i um so i i think that i always sort of encouraged by sort of fan action or you know sort of proactive activism that we're going to see at the weekend and we have seen from change for tottenham over the last 12 months or so and i'm like you know we've had them on on the pod it's not i don't i have no ill feeling or um any kind of criticism towards them i think they've done really good stuff really impressive stuff it really is it's hard like you said james to get tottenham fans motivated we're not liverpool we don't come from a an area of the country that that socialism is is you know um it's like a mainstay or you know where the centralist government have impacted the lives of local people right so the northwest of england are quite active in that respect because of what they've grown up with and the way they think whereas in london we don't do that right we don't complain because generally life has been pretty cushy right if you live in london we're all right so in order to mobilize a group of people in london certainly around football it's quite difficult to do so the fact that they've managed to do that is really really impressive i just think at this stage that the the lewis children or the new version of eunuch or the people that actually run in the football club now haven't had enough time to implement the change that they promised and Vinay hasn't had enough time to do the work that he needs to do in order to turn this club around and so while I think the protests will be good for lighting a fire up under the the arses of the owners and so they they know that there is little wiggle room here they need to be proactive for that reason I think is really good I also think that you've got give them time as well so there's like a combination of both things i think both things i think that that this protest and that noise will be a good thing it will make us to be less reactive and more proactive but i also think at the same time you can you can you can understand that they need time to really get their ideas embedded and the people in place in order to push spurs into a different onto a different trajectory that's how i feel about it john I don't know about you Phil yeah mate I think it can be it can be both things right like you can understand that to make significant change they will need a bit more time but also be frustrated with what they've done in the short term because you know as much as we just praise them for you know selling Brennan Johnson like just get him out the door get some money in that's a change that's something that they've done quickly that is different to how we've how they've operated before with Levy and Chuch that's good but let's not like forget right they came out and said we've we've put 100 million injection into the club if they didn't do that there would still be a budget for january transfers right and we've sold johnson for 35 million so they haven't spent anything that 100 million has not been touched right because we've signed this brazilian that would have come out of the normal january budget and the money for conor gallagher has come from brennan johnson so right now that 100 million pound war chest that they banged on about and were very pleased to take all the praise for saying we've put this money in don't spend a penny of that and they've had half a season like from when they you know had frankie in the summer all of us were saying last year was we need this progressive passer we probably need to replace sonny with like a big name where are these signings like that this is months of work right like i said the transform winner doesn't just open and then they just open the box and all the people that work in our scouting department get set free and they go brilliant who should we look for you can't be identifying conor gallagher and semenyo i could do that i could go who's the best winger in the league oh semenyo right we should try and sign in like anyone could do that where are they what are they doing they've had enough time to do that and we have this big budget of money to spend and go and blow people out the water which is why if we really do feel like Adam Morton is the guy and Palace go 100 million just go yeah right 100 million done let's get this done let's make this happen because to your point we're not going to pay 100 million up front are we?
49:08So we could give him 50 million in cash, spread the rest out over the next few years, pay him whatever he wants and do it again and buy another player for 100 million that's ambition this is nonsense, this is just saying stuff and buying a 19 year old Brazilian left back and a central midfielder we all would sign because we know he's a good player I think like there's a world where you can be frustrated both do we need to give them more time to see if they'll change this yes what they've done so far probably quite harsh it's fairly pathetic if I'm honest there's a lot there's so much more they could be doing and should have done earlier in this window there's no links to anyone like what are we doing like it's just weird so yeah I'm kind of frustrated by it which is what sorry just doing this point which is why I think the change for Tottenham stuff is super important and they're doing a brilliant job of keeping that momentum going because as of now yes they can always say it will take time give us time to change it but Enoch and the Lewis family have been in charge this entire time you've had time and part of the things that you did was not fire Levy earlier and not make these changes earlier so I'm sorry you don't get grace you don't get to reset the clock that you have to do this quickly and if they're not going to then it's good that groups like change for Tottenham are not going to let them off the hook and I'm really encouraged by that.
50:25So, yeah, good on them. I think that's great. Sorry, James, what was you saying? No, I was just saying, for me, it's not even really even about transfers. It's about there's just clearly chaos at the club. There's no direction in terms of the sporting strategy. Like, there's a lot of platitudes, you know. I appreciate the things Vinay has done to connect more of the fans, little gestures which do build towards a bigger general thing. But, you know, the two directors of football now just one like all of that you know saying that frank ticked every box where he ticked like hardly any of the boxes for what a topner manager should do in practice um and then just like gaslighting us by you know saying they're doing all this stuff and then other fans claiming you know things like change for top of them are just entitled when these are people that are being charged the most amount of money to watch their football club like for years the club the club where it's Enoch or Livia, whoever, have been saying, we want to, you know, almost like we want to be the Real Madrid of England.
51:25We want to be at that level. So we're going to charge those prices, but we're not going to behave like those clubs behave. So I think people are sick of spending so much money, sick of being gaslit by the club. And if it makes them passionate enough to go out and put that pressure on, regardless of how much time that, you know, Verticom's new regime have been, then keep doing it. And hopefully, you know, eventually things will change for the better for them. We've got an important question here from Rats101. He says, what's bigger, John Bass's? He's probably a J-O-H-N, Bass's cock, or Thomas Frank's ears.
52:02Definitely his ears. I've said this many times. It can't be his ears. His ears can't be more than two and a half. He's big ears, but it can't be more than two and a half inches. You're bigger than that, John. Come on. Well, yeah, but it's not as funny, is it, to go, oh, yeah, my cock's massive, mate. My cock's massive. I'm not really worried about humour at this stage. I just want to know that your cock is bigger than two and a half inches. Yeah. Well, yeah. I mean, barely. I mean, it scrapes over the line. You know, it depends as well. You want a three-inch cock? It just depends, doesn't it? Like what time of day?
52:35Is it warm enough? You know. I mean, I'm not, you know, the most well-endowed man on earth, but I know that fully erect, I'm bigger than three inches. Fully erect? Yeah, of course. No, no, standard. but this is what the measurement you surely it's well how do you measure it is it flaccid or do you measure it when it's at its biggest always measure fully erect always of course when someone says I've got an 8 inch cock it's not 8 inch flaccid is it is it have I been getting this wrong this entire time well this is what I mean if you're a grower then that's one thing everybody's a grower all men are growers yeah I guess but then like there's extreme cases aren't there like you've seen that guy with the biggest penis in the world it's so big that he can't get hard because he passes out because all the blood rushes to it.
53:20Yeah, but his cock is like a deformity. Yeah, still massive though, isn't it? So I'm a deformity. Look how big my head is, but it's still massive. It doesn't really matter why. Think about it like that. It makes you think, doesn't it? It does make you think. Yeah. So, yeah, look, as I've said many times before, my massive body is out of proportion to my penis. yeah i don't it's not scaled up but i've got size 11 feet big hands big head big everything big legs just an average penis i've got the sort of penis of a sort of five foot eight bloke but yeah six foot four body so annoying six foot three no it's just annoying yeah so yeah and and the encounters you've had in the past have you had to explain that just because i'm big it like i'm what you're going to experience is what you've always experienced you're not going to experience that what you are going to experience this time is different is the massive body attached to it yeah well to be fair you know like most of the time the first time a girl would have seen it it would have been erect so it's less you know out of proportion there when it's not erect it's i think it's way smaller than it should be so like i'd say my growth ratio is quite high yeah so it's all right because they only see it erect so it's fine and then after you know when it's on the way down, they're probably like, how the fuck has that happened?
54:45What's that? It's like, you want to get out at that point. Yeah, they're just going, wow, is that what it's like normally? Just a little acorn hanging off this massive tree. What do you expect? I know, you fucking need me, I can't do anything about it. I'm just born with it, right? It's like, just deal with it. Who cares? But that's the worst your cock ever looks is right after sex. Exactly. This is what you're saying. That's not fair. You can't measure it on that, surely. That's when you know you found true love, isn't it? when they love your cock after sex they're still looking at it don't look at it don't look at it stop looking at it fucking horrible I hate it I hate it now I hate it I hate you get away from me I did have another question but I can't find it so we're going to have to call it a day that's more way to end just no recovery just John's cockstiney and looking at your cock after sex it's disgusting anyway see you later see you next week yeah what was going through Who asked that question?
55:39What was their name? I don't know, mate. I can't remember. What's going through your mind? I write into my favourite podcast. I could ask them anything in the world. What's bigger than Managers' ears or John Bass' penis? Yeah. I mean, yeah. Someone spent time writing that. Yeah, yeah. Don't discourage people from writing these questions. We're never a podcast. The thing is, mate, if he wants to know the size of my cock, I don't know why he's writing an ear. He could just ask his mum. Just on mums, schnafel98, he says, which one of the former current head coaches would you most and least like to date your mum?
56:18So Frank, Ange, Mason, Conte, Nuno, Jose and Pochettino. I'm pretty sure Conte would beat my mum up. Yeah, I felt that. No one wants their mum being beaten up by another. Yeah, definitely not him. he definitely has like psychotic step down energy most I mean from the age profile as well I think Ange my mum would actually get on really well with Big Ange she's got a good sense of humour he does too but you know he's a strong man who'd look after the family unit I think he'd get on with me and my brothers pretty well yeah House in Australia is nice good i mean um just it sort of reminded me of um so a friend of the show and friend of us in real life lee he posted a picture of him after a boxing workout on the whatsapp group with a caption and i'm sure the reason why he posted this was just to show that oh i'll buy a box by the way boys our box um but he captioned it with his and he sat down he's just done a workout he's sweating he's got his boxing gloves off and he's just against the wall and someone's taking a photo of him and he in the group unsolicited completely without provocation just said how you sit in the car for five minutes after fishing finishing up finishing up with flab's mum for the first time in the history of the podcast so the history of the whatsapp group everybody laughed every single it got 10 laughing emojis 10 5 is a fucking violation 10 is ridiculous and i thought what a momentous thing maybe this would be funny i could share this on twitter and might you know it might entertain a few people 9.2 000 people have liked this fucking tweet this image i've sort of baited myself out i just thought a few people might like it is funny it made me laugh i laughed at i did i was one of the laughing emojis
58:27I hope my mum follows me so she'd just look at it and go yeah oh god I'm being attacked by Villa fans again oh Jesus Steve Holland from Kings Heath has just called me a fucking pillock right this is the end of the fine cop podcast thank you very much for joining us once again my favourite podcast the Q &A podcast James have you no gigs nothing lined up nothing uh well i'm going to be doing some gigs around the uk uh i'm hopefully doing my show in brighton on the 12th which is my my speed dating show but oh yeah it's done really well that hasn't it the speed dating show yeah it's been great i had a storming edinburgh festival actually had a few fighting cop listeners have shown up to things that are nice as well so shout out to those guys um no i mean yeah just you know i meet so many people went out of their way to pay money for your show and don't even kind of remember them can you don't know what they look like yeah exactly no but i uh yeah i i haven't got like the full green light from the venue yet but uh so this is a complete fucking waste of time even talking about it no if you're prepping people for when we can push it in the future it's not always done all right so yeah 12 i think 12th of february right before valentine's day so if you're single and lonely we're going to help you uh meet someone in brighton uh where does anyone come away from the show and gone on at a shag or oh yeah loads really yeah yeah interesting i actually caught me recent recently the one in barcelona um we had uh two women on a date and uh after the show we we caught them trying to sneak into the green room for um a bit of action when you say caught them you you made a point of stopping them from well yeah they were like being weird and sort of sneaking around in areas they weren't supposed to and then uh and then yeah we found them in the green room uh getting on just go back to the your flat in the future when that woman takes over my flatmate in a sex party alright nice one and obviously listen to the brand new the John Bass show the big John Bass show J-O-N which J-O-N yeah I've lived with that name my whole life so for me it seems weird I did make the point the other day J-O-N isn't the traditional spelling of John J-O-N my name and this I don't know if you know this is a shock to anyone a revelation but my name is actually Jonathan.
1:00:50But I've also said many times that if your name is Jonathan and you insist on being called Jonathan, you're a prat. So I just, John is fine, isn't it? Big John Bass, it's easy. But if John, J-O-H-N is also a name. Yeah, it is, yeah. And it's just his name on its own. J-O-H-N is the original John. There's no doubt about that since, you know, man like John the Baptist, big shout out. You know, he's been running that name for years. Whereas, you know, just J-O-Ns, we're sort of new on the block, just a bit cooler, just less letters, you know, more efficient, sort of moving with the times. So, yeah, J-O-N, B-A-S-S.
1:01:29Simple, isn't it? Beautiful. Beautiful. All right, nice one. Peace. Peace.

It’s Q&A Thursday and we’re all over the place in the best possible way. We get into Conor Gallagher, opportunistic signings and whether Spurs actually have a plan, Thomas Frank’s future, protests, ownership, Villa fans losing their minds online and why Spurs make us feel absolutely nothing. There’s chat about selling players properly, dreaming of Poch and Kane, fan fiction phase coping mechanisms and, inevitably, things descend into absolute filth. Big John brings the therapy, James brings the chaos and Flav is still arguing with Aston Villa fans. Classic Fighting Cock energy.
