In short
Tottenham Hotspur’s recent match vs West Ham, the club’s managerial situation (Thomas Frank still in charge, rumors about Vinay/Venkatesham), and what fans should expect next (Dortmund game, possible interim/permanent changes). The hosts also discuss a comedy movie promo unrelated to Spurs.
Guests
No named guests appear in the transcript. The episode is a discussion among the hosts (Mike, Nick, Nick, Alice) plus references to fans/comedians (e.g., Ollie_underscore_101) and other people mentioned in passing (John T., “T,” “Flav,” “Kel,” “Chris Pajak”).
Key claims
Tottenham’s problems are tactical and organizational, not just players; Frank’s approach (especially relying on Porro’s crossing and targeting Somerville vs Porro) is flawed; the club’s leadership is slow/incompetent in reading the situation; protests may be premature; Porro is elite for distribution but weak in 1v1 defending; Porro’s celebration/attitude is criticized.
Notable examples
Callum Wilson scoring; a corner goal moment; Somerville repeatedly skinned Porro; Porro’s cross leading to a Romero header; Man United’s performance under Carrick vs Man City as proof environment matters.

04no matter how hard I try Tottenham keep on wrecking my life and it's all so bleak we get bummed every week I blame my dad for following Tottenham and forcing three-year-old me to support them Well, Dad, you've made it my destiny To have the Spursy tag following me Oh, do you believe in Spurs? Do I fuck? They're a bunch of overpaid balance Ruining all of my weekends, oh Perfect. I don't usually like those sort of sing-along and they can be very cringy, but And the first two, I'd say two to five seconds of that, I was like, oh no. And then I was like, oh, that's funny. And then I was like, that's exactly how I fucking feel.
03Ollie underscore 101 on Instagram. He's a comedian slash musician, I think. So go follow him on Instagram. He's done a bit of a banger there. I suppose get bummed every week. That's what it felt like on Saturday. When you first shared it, I played it and I thought, this is going to be shit. and then I played it and I thought this is actually really amazing the same reaction as you did Flav I must have watched it about 16 times today same it's just like you know when you really connect with something on a really deep human level I want more of that yeah so I mean that's how I felt I think that's how I felt when the corner came in against West Ham on Saturday and it sort of dropped in and it was like mayhem in the box and you know when something's going bad at a corner where it drops sort of in between the pack and the goalkeeper and you're just waiting to see the ball hit the net or as it did i think it at the roof of the net yeah it did yeah and um and i mean this is the first game i've been to in person for for a while actually since last season at least and part of the reason is because i live so far away In fact, we left the house at 8.30 and we got home at 10.
19And it's quite a big commitment, especially this season where everything's going tits up. But it was that moment where I thought, we got to the stadium, my dad's been banging on because he'd moved down to Wiltshire as well just shortly after I moved here. And he just keeps going, I really miss Spurs, I really miss Spurs. And I was like, well, at Christmas, a friend of mine, John T., he offered me two tickets. for the game and I was like yeah I'll take them I'll take dad he's been hankering to go and it'll be lovely and it was really lovely like full disclosure it was the sort of corporate section of the in the east and and it was an experience of which I'll I've never I didn't understand what corporate football was until this it is it is if you like that kind of stuff spurs have created an incredible environment for people with lots of money who want to enjoy football in in a slightly different more relaxed very comfortable way than um than you might get if you were just sitting in the end of the old you know part lane at the old wire lane so it was amazing and like a really nice experience love to share the time with my dad and it's very comfortable and whatnot and but then the game started and you're like well that just disappears into nothingness, right?
41Because you're still sitting in the same stadium, watching the same fucking footballers, watching the same tactics that fucking Thomas Frank just insists on instilling. And the game just sort of, there's a message here actually that was brought up through Fanalysis and this is Unterfart. And he said before the game, Tottenham go down early. There will be boos at halftime. They look decent for 50 minutes at the start of the second half, but ultimately failed to get a result. There'll be boos at full time. Thomas Frank talks about how we were competitive. What game am I talking about this season?
18And that's it in a nutshell, isn't it? Because when Callum Wilson scores a goal, my head goes down. I can hear them going absolutely ballistic, as is their right. We bang on about it being their cup final. In those moments, you have to take your medicine. and I looked across just for a second and the limbs, the feelings, the fucking pure explosion of emotion they were feeling at that moment because it was their cup final. I just glanced, I was like, that's enough. I have a little glanced, that's enough. It was like watching Child's Play. Do you remember Child's Play with Chucky when he was a kid?
58I'd look from behind the sofa, I'd watch that film and glance and then there's an animate doll killing people and I'm like, that's enough of me. It was the same thing watching those fucking bastards. And when they were reeling out, it's happened again. It's happened. I was like, no. And I walked back and there was a cheese board. There was a cheese board. So I just thought, let's have some brie like everybody else. I don't actually like brie and that had never happened. but yeah it was just absolutely terrible pretty much from start to finish and somehow T somehow he's still in the job yeah yesterday it was a real rollercoaster because we all woke up expecting the notification to come we had all the ITKs because the thing was I think initially it was said that he's going to be there for the Dortmund and that was the initial thing coming out of the club and I thought okay but then the next morning it's like there was just some sort of um a groundswell of rumors that it was going to happen today yesterday and then it's a day drew on we just kind of realized that they're actually going to keep him in the job here and I don't know who I don't know who that benefits in any way um the thing with Thomas Frank I don't hate him personally I mean I hate what I hate the football he's he's produced but I don't hate him even though And I think, I feel a little bit sorry that he's still got to go out and do his duties, knowing that he's a dead man walking, you know.
36Do you think the club are kind of like, they haven't got a solution right now, so just send him out, do the press conference for Dortmund. You know, we've got 17 players out or something like that. No one can play, we've got no midfield. But just keep him in because, you know, what difference does it make, I guess, at that stage? yeah exactly so um it's like when you know your wife cheated on her but you keep her around because you can't afford a new house and you've got nowhere to go i was gonna sleep on the sofa sorry god uh yeah yeah can you can you believe in any world that he's he's taking the Dortmund game John boy the thing is mate what worries me the most is and i've had this this horrible thought when like t said when there started to be all these rumblings of like oh vin i's at the training ground and we thought maybe you might go i had this horrible thought that so i'm a person that just believes and loves all conspiracy theories because i think it makes the world more interesting right but there are lots of people who who don't believe in conspiracy theories and their main reason is for it is that you're giving too much credit to people and actually there's just a lot of incompetence in the world and people don't know what's going on and my worry is that there There isn't this big thought process going on behind the scenes, like T said, where they're going, oh, well, you know, while we're working out a plan, we'll send him out to manage.
59I think they've only now just gone, oh, maybe he's not the right guy. And Vinay's just popped in for a cup of tea, like, oh, how are you feeling about things, Thomas? It seems like there's quite a lot of booze. How are you feeling? And it's the start of the process in their mind, not the end. That's what worries me the most, mate. And so in a way, I'm not really surprised that he's going to get Dortmund because I feel like they are only now starting to realise what the actual sentiment we've all had for months is. So, yeah. We talked about that in the WhatsApp group. Well, briefly mentioned it.
36I can't, they're not idiots, right? These are intelligent people. Well, yeah, because Venkatesham oversaw the rise rise of what is now the current Arsenal team. So he's not an idiot if he's able to do that. You could potentially argue the Lewis kids or Vivian and her husband rather are idiots in so far as they don't understand football, but they are super intelligent people. There's no way Venkatesham looks at this and doesn't understand there's a problem until Callum Wilson scores that goal right I do I do think there is this sentiment in the club rightly or wrongly that they understand the job at hand and how much work needs to be done and that a manager isn't or this head coach isn't necessarily the be all and end all of that and so they want to and I'm sure Vina is at the center of this, well, I guess he is, they want to give a manager an opportunity to turn this battleship, in Thomas Frank's words, around.
50And it will take that long. The problem is, as fans, we don't have time. None of us have time to wait for a battleship to turn because we're all, the torpedoes fucking hit it and we're all drowning. There's sharks in the water and we're all getting our legs bitten off. And you've got Thomas Frank over the side going, don't worry, we're turning the boat around. Some of you are going to die. In fact, you're dead, definitely, because you've got no legs left. There's a child there being eaten. But don't worry, we are coming back round, so it'll all be... That isn't the way it works in football. It's not...
26You need to not lose to West Ham, the shittest version of West Ham. And that's saying something. in the modern era. You can't survive that. You can't survive that on the back of everything that's come before. So I think to your point, John, actually they don't necessarily know what to do right now. There is an overarching plan, you'd hope, and based on Venkat Sessom's comments in the program, which were really encouraging, actually. They were encouraging because he was talking about things that fans have been talking about for a long, long time that previously Daniel Levy was unable to do or unwilling to do or just like look down at us as sort of peasants who don't understand football.
17He mentioned about changing the wage structure so we can compete. That's something we've been banging on about for a long, long time. he mentioned about adding experienced players to this young crop which is not that isn't just buying older players that's buying players are ready to go into the first 11 conor gallagher maybe evidence of that but and there was one other i can't remember the other point he made that and bridging the gap between the supporters and the club which is is gargantuan in this current state If he, as the leader of football operations at the club, as the guy who has to overtake everything and see a positive change, acknowledges the very things that we've been talking about, that in itself is a positive thing.
01However, it means very little unless action is taken, but we'll only see if action can be taken over the next 12 to 24 months. I'd imagine we see genuine change. That's not to say we can't improve in the short term, but just that's the way I feel about it. which is why I think perhaps there was a smallish turnout for change for Tottenham because now right now, the protest now right now is time to wait and see given all of the backroom turmoil that's happened at the club. That's how I feel. Do you think I'm off the markle? I think the protest was a little premature. So I do go along with what you said.
40They've only just literally got here. and if they got the Thomas Frank appointment right, then, you know, they wouldn't be protesting at all. I just think that the promises that they've given, they weren't going to happen in a couple of windows. It's going to take a few windows, but you would hope while they get their shit together, they would have a manager who could at least not go into games, just not wanting to lose, not trying, but not wanting to lose. And it feels like that's how Thomas Frank approaches a game. and I don't think, I mean, many of managers from smaller clubs, even though I hate that term, it's always a question of will their style scale up to a bigger club, to a club that's going to have the ball more and be on the front foot.
22And Pochettino was one where we struck gold where it did. But I feel like Thomas Frank seems to have the mentality that we're going to have 38 % possession, but we're going to cross it in beyond the defender. But when there's a low block, spamming in crosses is nothing because that's just meat and drink from most modern-day Premier League centre-backs. So why I say that I question the intelligence of them is because these guys, because they've got a bloated structure at Tottenham as it is. I mean, they're inventing job titles for people. And all these people cooked up saying, you know, they've got all these black boxes and they said, okay, we're going to have Thomas Frank.
57He's going to come in and, you know, improve on what Poster Cogdu's done. And it's just fucking a hundred times worse. so I do think we have to be patient with Vinay but I do worry that there's a very bloated org structure and I do question how quickly decisions can get made with all these people you've got to refer to you and obviously we've got to do Paratici but there's all these different new people coming in and it's like well do they have to all be conferred with before we make a decision to sack Thomas Frank or hire a replacement you know I think what based on the conversations I've had with Anatole who's, you know, we've done a couple of episodes of the Lab about structure behind the scenes is that what we're trying to do is replicate what they've got at City, what they've got at other football clubs where they do run things very well and make good decisions at the right time.
53And what we had previously when it was Daniel Levy feeding into, what would have been, Paratichi or Langer and then the head coach was kind of an archaic way of running the football club because it's so gargantuan and a lot of these appointments we've made don't really impact behind the scenes don't really impact the footballing side of things necessarily not in the way that we want in terms of like employment sorry in terms of buying players and whatnot but we'll see how it happens but it's still new we don't know what it is really we don't know i don't know if it's good we don't know if it's bad it's just brand new like there's people like saying that they want v9 out now what like what what what do you think is happening i suppose that you want to take away our ceo and then what what get another one in for six months huh you want blood let's want blood yeah yeah no appreciate that if you just want blood it's it's fine but you shouldn't really be making decisions or anywhere near anything that makes decisions that that the impact the way the club's going You can't fucking sack a CEO six months into his job or expect anything other than the slow progression that that role entails.
05A manager, I mean, even the manager should be given time, not Thomas Frank necessarily, but I don't know. I do think that's one of the issues that people have, though, I would say Flav, is that it's definitely too early to sack Vin, just to clarify that point. And there is this wider alignment. That word gets used a lot. and we were talking about it a few weeks ago about you know it needs to be from the very top a clear vision of like what the spurs dna is and what we're trying to achieve and it sounds like they're trying to hire people to bring that in and make that alignment work across you know the whole organization the thing that i think people have got a fair complaint about and this is my point is i'm not saying vin i and the lewis family aren't smart the word i think i use if i'm not mistaken was like incompetent and they're slightly different i don't mean they're like fully incompetent for everything but with this one particular area of the management piece the reason i think vinoy potentially is being incompetent here is actually a positive for him which is he has seen a successful club stick with a manager and so he's gone that's what you do which makes total sense right i completely understand that the reason that i think it's incompetence is because just sticking with a manager because you stuck with a manager before and it worked, doesn't mean this time it's going to work.
22And it worries me that it's got to this point before he's gone. Maybe it's not going to work. And that's the bit of, I guess it's more like a cultural incompetence of not reading this situation is different to the scum situation. It's completely different. You can't just go, well, we just stick with the manager because I did it at Arsenal and look, they're doing great now. Cool. But they're not the same. This is not the same circumstances. But of course he understands that. If he doesn't, he would never have been able to get to a position where he is now. He's not, it can't be such a blanket approach to go, well, it works at Arsenal so it's going to work at Spurs so I'm just going to stick with Frank.
55Of course he, he must. If he doesn't, if you're right, we are fucked. True. Blood donation is now more inclusive. More people are able to donate blood with the American Red Cross through FDA guidelines that eliminate eligibility questions based on sexual orientation. The Red Cross celebrates this historic change and welcomes those who may be newly eligible to donate blood. There's a place for everyone in the mission of the Red Cross. 20:33Join us and help save lives. To learn more and make your appointment to donate blood, visit redcrossblood.org slash LGBTQ. That's redcrossblood.org slash LGBTQ. Believe that. if he doesn't understand the nuances of this situation we are fucked but I cannot believe that someone that gets to become the CEO of Tottenham Hotspur can't see that Frank is a problem while giving him time because they have to figure something out I don't know but why was he given the job? because Arsenal succeeded and how did they succeed? by sticking with the manager so why would he do anything else? that's what I'm saying I'm not calling him stupid what he's doing makes total sense he's got one frame of reference that worked really spectacularly well that's why he's doing it he's not making that doesn't make him stupid right it's logical but in this instance that's what worries me is that i don't think he's like football aware that that's not you just can't just stick with someone and so i do think that's the case otherwise why have we stuck with him because we were all saying this months ago months and so why are they just now going oh yeah maybe his job should be under threat.
46It has to be that, no? No. What is it then? What is it then? What I just said it was in terms of like there is a situation that presents itself. You cannot be as emotional as a fan base just to immediately remove a manager despite us wanting him gone. That they not have a plan in place to replace him just to sack him. He's not just making decisions because he worked to Arsenal. It's just way too basic way of looking at it. surely he's not just going i'm not sacking a man i'm not going to sack him because we didn't sack arteta he's not doing that he's he's saying that there are a million there are there a thousand things that need to be fixed at spurs that are probably way behind where or what he took over arsenal of arteta and all of those things need to put in place and perhaps the manager isn't the issue but thomas frank is a big issue but there's so much wrong with with spurs at the moment that to just simplify it down to the fact that he he got it right at arsenal by keeping arteta and just so he wants to do that at spurs that's not that's i don't know i don't know obviously right but in my in my day job i've worked for like a number of like startups right and a lot of those people the early ones they hire them from big companies right so a lot of them are like x google or x uber and a lot of the companies them there's always a phrase that you would hear depending on which group of people came from a certain company.
12So it would always be like they would start their phrases with, at Uber, we did blah, blah, blah, and blah, and this is how it worked. At Google, we did blah, blah, blah, and this is how it worked. I would not be surprised if you hear a lot from Vinay, at Arsenal, we did blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. It must be. That is literally a really high-profile job and was his last time. There are people in the club who are, sorry, the fan base, who are clearly saying it's not frank these people also the reason they get to top is ego right he's like everyone wanted our tata sacked i stuck with him and look at him now everyone wants frank sacked so i'm like what do they know i'm smart they're dumb that's why i get paid millions of pounds and they just pay to come and watch the club there will be an element of ego with this as well where he thinks he knows better and again it makes sense because he's had like a case where this has been successful so I understand why he thinks that it's worrying to me that he will it will take longer to get a manager out who clearly is just not a good fit for us and so I still think Vin I might be the right person to longer term be the person in charge of building the club to where it's going to is this this specific issue does concern me because of his of it working at Arsenal basically but we'll never know right but that's just my gut feel he'll be saying at Arsenal and Thomas Frank will be going at Brentford a lot in the next few weeks.
39Yeah. If that is their reasoning, we are fucked. Yeah, we're fucked if that is the right. Yeah. If he's just simply cannot differentiate or separate what Spurs are and what Arsenal were when he took over, then I'm supremely worried, but I hope that isn't the case. I knew that there was a problem on Saturday I thought there'd be a problem before the game with Somerville going up against Porro and then it played out which you know was frustrating I think Somerville hands down is their best player, he's better than Bowen in my opinion if I choose one of the two 100 % beat Somerville but he just got ripped to pieces over and over again and so it was supremely frustrating for me and anybody who witnessed it for him to put out put over the absolutely peach of a cross which is poro is probably the best in terms of fullback the best cross in fullback his distribution is insane his technique is insane uh it's just a shame he's such a knob uh because he's crossed this ball over for romero romero brilliant header into the back of the net wicked we're one or what we're one all and what does poron do at that time his mind instantly goes to i'm going to show these fans that they're fucking idiots and he holds his hands up like like hulk hogan to the crowd like is that is that all right it's like it's like what are you doing i know you're frustrated i understand it right but we're frustrated we're not the cunts here right you lot of the cunts for not fucking for continually two wins all season at home 37 38 losses in two years like you've got to take some responsibility it's not like this frustration comes from us being frustrated for and paying the money that people do and not just that just sitting on your armchair at home waiting for spurs to be decent when everyone else around of seems to be fucking well certainly our peers seem to be doing better than we are and this is like what the fuck man what are you doing just don't do that don't like do the cross celebrate get on with it pick the ball up run back to try and do it again but just holding the ear up like that just like we're all angry this ain't helping pedro like you're 25 26 27 years old like you got to start taking accountability for your decisions.
09It was... I just fucking can't stand him at the moment. Cannot stand his face. And T, you pointed out, didn't you, that they posted up some promotional material for the Arsenal game. Yeah, so I was looking for the fixtures. I wanted to see the point at which I wanted Thomas Frank to go, but it got this kind of pop-up with the image that Arsenal tickets go on sale today. And Poe's face is obviously there front and centre. I just thought I'd fill up straight away. he's got his finger up to his mouth shut up buy your tickets you fucking mugs buy your tickets you fucking mugs I'm holding my hand up none of you just stop booing just buy your tickets I've got to admit I was you're not going to hear this very often from me but I want to admit I was wrong okay I was stone cold wrong about something and I'm going to tell you exactly what it is do you remember when we had Poro first came in and it was like oh he'll be signing as a fullback and I was going no just play him in the back four you just got to coach him so all you got to do anyone can play right back you just play right back coach him out to defend teach him out to defend well I got that wrong didn't I turns out there have been points where he's been fighting to be fair to you John there has been periods in the when did you first say that it must have been when Aaron came right before Conte Conte just train him just train him to defend teach him out to defend which should be actually for a professional footballer shouldn't be that much of a reach really well my logic was think about when you grew up the biggest gorms that you played football with you'd go just play right back mate just play right back or left back because you've got like two sides of the pitch just kick it out worst case scenario just boot it up the pitch or boot it off that's all they have to do just break up play he makes defending look impossible he makes it look like how could you possibly defend ever like he makes it look so hard so yeah I I got that one massively wrong I don't think he'll ever be able to defend now even that's a coaching issue but bearing in mind that's been three different managers who've gone coaching to defend so I'll hold my hands up to be fair John I don't think you're completely wrong and at the start of the season when I was coating off Porro massively I was being fed of all these defensive stats he's actually not that bad defensively I don't think he's a terrible defender I just feel that he's one of these people you've got to kind of build the team to mask his weaknesses now as much as we slag off Bentoncourt he is someone who does do a lot of work on that side of the pitch in front of Poirot to kind of help him because what I found of Somerville when he's got a head of steam up and he's running with the ball then Poirot's going to struggle because Poirot's not a one-on-one defender but if someone's in Somerville's chest as soon as he receives the ball then he's not as effective and in the second half some of them didn't do half as much as they did in the first half because I think Frank obviously figured it out that you know what as soon as he gets the ball just stand near him you haven't even got a putter foot and just stand near him and you can't just get a head of steam and make Poirot look bad I think I don't think he'll ever be as good a one-on-one defender as Spence but they're just two completely different players and as you've both said I think in terms of crossing the ball and distribution Poirot's probably the best in the league and should he join Man City you'll probably see for the next four or five years why why he's so highly rated um i wouldn't i would i would walk him out the door i really would i'm not absolutely bellend i mean i'd bellend he is he is a bellend but i think you know at least he at least he fucking cares i don't think he's i don't think he's doing that in a sense that he hates the club it's just that we're at a very low end and what he's doing isn't helpful.
59Fucking hate your guts. Well, our fans are cunts, Flav. You've said it. I've said it. We've all said it. We are cunts. And if you were a Spurs player, would you like the fence? Tell me if you'd like the fence. I'd probably struggle. You know, it's like, again, Flav, that means you say a lot. He's the only one that's speaking how he feels, actually. We could turn this around to you. He's the only one actually saying something. They all hate us. He's the only one. Yeah. he's brave enough to say I respect him I respect him for saying what he actually thinks you know what I didn't think of it like that you're right what was you saying John it just reminds it reminds me of do you remember he's one of my favourite players which I remember do you remember Christian Vieira he used to play for Inter Milan and they started one season they started booing him so he just stopped celebrating goals he'd just score and just stopped celebrating and then in the end they just they ended up you know what the ultras are like over there they ended up just being like do you know what fair play so then they just started cheering him again when he scores and he started celebrating again so you know at least he's got at least he's got the bollocks to give it some maybe I don't know like with Poro he's obviously like he's got a lot of positive attributes and when he doesn't get like played into the ground he looks good and I do I do feel like a little bit where there's maybe physical and emotional fatigue with some of some of these players and he's definitely one who just plays a lot of games and I think he does suffer for it.
27And, you know, we've had Spence basically playing left back. So there's no real rotation option for him because we've got to play him. And we're in the same situation now. Davis has smashed his leg into a million bits. So... That's the end in it for him. That's it now for him. So you're going to see Spence playing left back solidly anyway. A dog, he might be back soon, in which case maybe you can rotate. He was on the bench. So there was some... but we're still just, you know, down a little bit. Because just sort of finally rounding out this point on Poro, there is also a selection thing here, right?
00In this game, as you've said, Somerville is a quality player, right? We've got a fullback who is basically a one-on-one, I'll lock you up defender. Specialist. Specialist in that. Loves it, relishes it. But the reason that Frank hasn't selected Spence to play on the right is because our entire game plan, it seems, is to get balls into the box, set pieces or otherwise. 100 % so we're stuck in this scenario of going well we either get Poro in and maybe we you know that's a good way for us to create but we're giving up a lot on the other direction versus having a more balanced side that can play a different way and not have to rely on one player to whip the ball in so again it's like manager selection so yeah I take it all back I wasn't wrong it's Thomas Frank's fault again we identified it we said we said Somerville against Poro is going to be a fucking problem it's going to be a problem and I watched it and I was like he's a problem I knew he was going to be a problem dad I fucking told you this was going to be a problem oh Somerville scored or it was a flecky weren't it going in I think but he skinned him alive and you're like what the fuck man if I know I don't know anything near to what you know about this game Thomas I don't right you can you're fucking genius compared to me but I do know something that Porro was going to get ripped to shreds so why not put Spence in 1v1 specialist beautiful circumnavigate their only fucking fret on the pitch cancel him out the game and and and if it was angie pasta gogler you go this is the way we play this is our mentality we're not worrying about somerville we're going to do this but frank's entire game is worrying about what the other team are going to do yeah so if you're worried about him concentrate on the biggest problem.
44The terrifying aspect of Somerville taking his liver. It's what he did.

58anyway there's no point getting upset about it boys because we can't change anything can we why don't we play Spence at right back and play right wing we haven't got any wingers and then that way you've got someone who can cross the fucking ball and he doesn't have to defend anymore and then you've got someone who can defend it right back. There's a solution, Thomas. Why not play a back three? Have Porro and a doggy with wingbacks? Then you don't have to worry about Porro defending. Just play that. I'm sure, again, I'm sure he sat down and thought about a back three and he's not just sort of listening to the podcast now and going, fuck yeah, I should have done a back three.
33You're right. Like he knows his stuff. It's just, is there, there's like, the popularity rating now for Thomas Frank is 2.8%, is it dad the two yeah so yeah my dad my dad actually we so he was on the train on the way home um uh and uh dad was going you can't sack him i was like dad you can obviously you can like you might not want him to but what you're saying is we can't sack him because there's no possible other option and i'm like dad i love you so much all right i thank you for giving Tottenham Hotspur to me. And you've been alive 30 years longer than I have. And you've watched Spurs win the double.
16But you are so fucking wrong right now, Dad. And if you keep fucking going on, we've had 10 hours on the piss. I'm on the train and you keep banging on about giving Frank more time. I'm going to lamp you, Dad, if you carry on. I didn't say that. I did think it, though. He's saying the players are the issue. That we can't... It doesn't matter. The players are the problem. But you know that's not right. And the reason why that's not right is for twofold. There's individual evidence this weekend where players with the right instruction and right environment can pull out performance. The Man United performance against Manchester City, I would say arguably the best, one of at least the best performances from a side in the league this year.
03Second, you realise how important the message in the environment created by the manager is. because Carrick got Manchester United playing like a team possessed. What has he said in three days being there? I don't know what the answer is, but he said something. He's had some impact because Amarind's Man United could never have achieved that. It's the same players. And so it's too easy to go where the players should be playing for every manager. Of course they should be playing every manager. I should be making my wife orgasm every time we have sex. Sometimes I can't. Right? It's not always, it's like I need the right motivation.
38I need the right bit of encouragement. Go on, keep going, keep going. I'm saying stop saying that. Keep going, I'm going to come. If you keep saying keep going, I'm going to come. Stop moving. How about you stop moving? That won't make me come, by the way, if they stop moving. Sorry, John, you were going to say something, I'm sure. I wasn't. I wasn't. That was a hospital pass. I'm avoiding that. Oh, yeah. You were going to say something, weren't you, John, actually? about that the players are good enough is what I'm saying to see a better performance than we see them yeah I mean look there's a big there's a big difference between like the players being like amazing and then the managers getting it completely wrong and there being some definite issues with the squad but could they play better and I think that's it's the latter where we're at which is there are still major issues even if you've got these players to play at their top whack every week we still need to do work with this squad to get back to where we want to get to and even to be in the top six i personally feel there's a lot of work to be done there but i feel like people talk about floors and ceilings we've currently we're in the basement like we have fallen through a hole in the floor and we are now in the basement we are playing below what our floor is with the rats we we are with the rats we're with the bodies we're with like you know some old fermented wine like we're just a block of concrete that's gone rock hard yeah and like a snooker table without the legs just like against the side that's where we're at that's where we're at and we can't get out and we don't know how to get out and we've got no signal down there so we're just stuck until someone opens the door we're in Fritzel's basement we're in Fritzel's basement we've got a baby on the way it's our sister and daughter and he's alive and happy upstairs yeah fine doesn't know what's going on just goes oh I know they're down there and it's really bad this is Vinay but I used to have a house and there were people in the basement they loved it and eventually they got out of the basement and now they're flying they're doing really well so I'll just leave them in there long enough and eventually it'll be fine yeah it'll be fine just leave them in there just coming through from Matt Law it says the current expectation is that if Thomas Frank is sacked Spurs will appoint an interim head coach until the end of the season before appointing a permanent replacement in the summer now I did a bit of digging because the obvious answers to that is that Johnny Heitinger has just come in as assistant manager to Thomas Frank.
04And you remember, I think you mentioned this, T, about let's hope it's a Martin Yol kind of thing where Martin Yol was brought in as assistant manager to Jack Santini. And Frank Arneson was the DOF. So I thought, let me reach out to Chris Pajak, who's a big Liverpool fan, and asked him, what was Heitinger's role last year when you won the league with Arnest Lott? And he was like, I don't know, mate, really? And I was like, all right, okay, fair enough. Maybe, you know, it was all about Arnest Lott, wasn't it? So I talked to my mate, Kel, he's a Zayx fan. He was the manager of Ajax for, I don't know, 18 games, something like that, might be a bit more.
48And Kel said, these are his words. Where is he? he said in terms of tactic he goes haha to be honest he was our worst coach we've ever had in terms of tactic he was quite arrogant towards the media his tactics were the worst they've ever had and he have not a clue what he was doing haha but he did a good job as assistant to slot earlier at Liverpool thinks that role suits him more so that's good one I don't know the other one worst coach I've ever had it can't be right though it can't be right because he wouldn't be they wouldn't in point like maybe if he is rubbish then maybe you're right about Vino if they've if they've brought him in and they've well in both cases it's really bad right if they've brought him in going well Thomas needs an assistant and they're not they're not even thinking about sacking him it backs up my earlier point which is they've gone well let's just pay more money when we inevitably have to sack him because we've got someone in.

52So that option's really bad, right? If they're not thinking interim, that's really bad. If they've gone, I know, let's bring in someone who can be his assistant and who can also be the interim manager and they're an absolute howler of a manager and Ajax fans hated his guts, that's not good either. So in either of these scenarios, it's not great, is it? I think it's fairly evident that Pochettino, they must be reaching out to Pochettino in the summer if they're going to just hire an interim now. By hiring an interim now, just kind of lowers the standard of manager that we like to get because the rumours of Xavi may be coming in.
27But he's not going to be an interim, is he? No, no, no, God, no. No, no, but if the interim's there, that means that surely conversations are going, Pottshar, after the World Cup, do you fancy this? Yeah. Because we're writing the season off. We're fucking shit. You know we're shit. You've seen it. We're all shit. Fans are shit. Players are shit. Physios are shit. they're definitely shit coaches are shit johnny eisenberg shit right we've made massive mistakes all over the place podge we can set this up for you we bought conor gallagher you know that so come and become a manager that conversation apart from all the shit bit that that should have happened right that yeah john you mentioned javi in the whatsapp group what are you would you like javi and busquets as number two or if the option is that or would you like um pochettino know in the summer if you just had to choose one what's your gut feeling yeah i would prefer potch in the summer because for a lot of reasons some are football reasons which is just think like it can still be a manager at the top level he understands premier league he understands the club all of that kind of stuff and then obviously from an emotional point of view there's unfinished business there he's got that connection he gets what it means to be our manager if we're not going to do that if we're not going to wait and it sounds like we are which is good so like if we're going to get an interim manager then that's leaning more into we could get poch but if we're not if they if they want to appoint someone who's available out of the people that are available now i'm sort of excluding jabby alonso because he's sort of already said he wants to wait till the summer he reeks of liverpool when slot and everybody gets fired or city when pepper like he just reeks of that yeah yeah so for me it's like i could see a world where javi gets another go right he did he did pretty well at Barcelona in pretty hard conditions.
15Better than I thought. Yeah, he did pretty well. Like they hadn't won the league for a while and he went there and won it and when they were in disarray with all the wages and loads of pressure and stuff behind the scenes. And it's Xavi, right? Like he walks into a dressing room, players are like, fuck, that's Xavi. And if Busquets is with him, that's like those two just carry a lot of weight. And for young footballers these days, you know, that there aren't some of those older managers, they don't carry that same weight even though their playing career was good as well. Those two are like, you know, they've been playing within their lifetime.
46They know who they are. I mean, Xavi Simons is named after him. So, it means that you just have this more gravitas. It means that we're able to attract, I think, players that maybe we wouldn't get because they might want to be part of the project that Xavi's doing at Spurs. They come with their own risks, no Premier League managerial experience, et cetera, but the other names are so uninspiring that at least it feels like that sort of possession-based attacking one and two football might just be more enjoyable to watch and it might be a bit more fun uh let me just take this moment to remind you that nordvpn back the fighting cop podcast you can get your best discount off nordvpn plan go to nordvpn.com forward slash the fighting cop the link is in our description if you get a two-year plan you get four months off right now there's no risk if you find you don't get anything from nordvpn in the 30 days that you signed up for it that then um you know you can get a 30-day money back guarantee there's no risk at all and the good thing about NordVPN, as we all know, is the fact that you can get around parental locks and look at porn.
49And also, you can also, you know, if you're still worried about putting ideas as T is, you just wouldn't do it. You'd stop masturbating in its entirety, wouldn't you, T? What? No. Well, I'm just saying, like, you wouldn't put your, you don't strike me as a man who would put your driving license into Pornhub is all that. Oh, no, absolutely not. No, I'm on VPNs all the way. What? No way. No, it can't be. I mean, no one would. 70 % drop-off. Poor love of fuming. Jesus, man. Poor BBWs, man. They're not getting spent over. Just tell me. There you go. So NordVPN will get you around that problem. It literally takes two seconds on a daily basis.
32I'm realizing how grateful I am to NordVPN. And I don't even have to pay for it. I get free because of this sponsorship. so uh imagine that you wanted to watch uh just to change tactics just quickly um stranger things was available a whole 24 hours before it was available here and you're going online and you're seeing spoilers and tiktoks and whatnot about what happened in the final episode of stranger things with norvpn just switch it over to the us and watch it when everyone else watches it so it's perfect really and same with sporting events 3 p.m kickoffs all those things everything is geo blocks the 3 p.m blackout doesn't exist if you have north vpn northvpn.com for such fighting cult link is in the description below please continue to support the podcast by using our sponsors they're legends your legends everyone's a legend um let's uh let's do some have I missed anything from the game that I there's lots but we don't want to talk about it I was going to say the handball but I'm like I don't it wouldn't have affected the game I've not seen that again I've not seen it I mean it's just another VAR classic thing of like for me it's one of them where it's like it's not really a handball right he's not he's not really moving towards it it's just touched his fingers no no one appealed for it in real time but in the rules of the game his hands in an unnatural position and he hits his hand should be a penalty so I don't really understand again it's my same complaint we've sacrificed celebrating goals for them to still get decisions wrong what is the fucking point of it all I just don't I just will never understand it but we're shit and we would have lost anyway so who cares indeed let's do a couple of questions before we round up and Ben Lawrence says due to the lack of player availability should the club hold a competition as a part of their Spurs experiences offering to play in the Champions League fixture for the first do you reckon if they offer like a million you have to pay a million pound but you can start for spurs against dortmund tomorrow yeah there's someone out there i feel on musk just getting on the end of crosses because he's got all the money in the world there was um there was a show on sky i think where they're trying to find trying to find footballers join an academy you know maybe we do something like that you know i mean get some local street footballers you know that can beat a Manigat crossing that'd be nice I don't think anyone could I don't think they underestimate how difficult this fucking game is and we all sort of were very critical of these players and called them useless but they do you know I was surprised with Tell's substitution yeah ridiculous and it was ridiculous wasn't it because he has come under much scrutiny he's been left out now of the Champions League squad and replaced Solanke which you can understand with Charleston's injury but of all of our forward players, including Odebert, Xavi, different questions I've been asked of Xavi than the wide players, but Tell looks so up for it.
33Like he didn't hide. He wasn't intimidated by the atmosphere. He wasn't worried about the booing. He just, every time he got the ball, he wanted to make something happen. Like the two players, three players I'd say that stood out in terms of just trying to get on with it. I'd say Conor Gallagher was that and he didn't have a great debut, you but he was he definitely was trying things and and it was eager to please but Romero and tell were the two stand out for me who just they just they just didn't give a shit about the noise they were just gonna like Romero like three or four challenges I was like oh my god like that I was like oh my god what's he doing but he won them and that gave us an advantage and you kind of need it it felt like he was on a tightrope between like a great challenge and a leg break but but Tell especially should be singled out for praise in an environment and a squad that he's underperforming I think he's really grabbed his chance to some degree in the in the last two or three games three or four games and so to take him off when he's like that just didn't make much sense to me especially when he's going to be left out on Tuesday Two games in a row that's happened he's been taken off where we shouldn't have and And I think the fact that he started from such a low ebb to where he is now makes him all the more popular among our fans.
54Because I really hated him last season, but no, I think he's fucking amazing. Absolutely amazing. A couple of really good shots in the first half as well. And I think it's even more frustrating when Odebeir is just struggling on the other side. I mean, surely you just take him off and put Solanke on. and Colin Morane was terrible as well. But yeah, it was a shame that Teltz had to be sacrificed and I just didn't understand the sub. He said we have to have two strikers on. I can imagine him being quite frustrated too. Sorry? I can imagine him being quite frustrated. Well, absolutely, because this is a World Cup year.
31I mean, I've said on the group that he's not going to displace Barcala, Dure, I forget all the other wingers, Mbappe, Dembele. He's not going to get ahead of them. either way but still he must feel that in the release here as well he probably feels that he's not going to compete if he's just getting left out of games and being subbed early but I don't think he moved to Paris FC changes that either We've got a question here from Ryan Walls who says have you ever cared less about Tottenham? I feel absolutely nothing right now
05It's the first time ever I'm not alright I can't really believe that I'm going to admit this, but part of me was like when they were attacking, when it was 1-0, I was like, yeah, go on, score. I just wanted to feel some pain. I wanted more pain because I was just so uninterested in what was happening that I thought, if they do score, it's one step closer to Frank going. And when it went in, I was like, have that, Frank, you fucking rat. And then I was like, oh no, fuck. right and then the reality of the situation hits me like a ton of bricks but there was a 10 second like spell of yeah actually i'll be all right if this goes in and then when it happened this like split second of yeah fuck off like you deserve that it's like i'm mad at them so i want them to be in as much pain as i'm in so i'm lashing out i know i mean because i was kind of thinking like this like i i never like i didn't i want i was desperate for us to be west ham it's against right we all were right but you're like Frank's gonna get Dortmund and you're like what if he wins we need that right we need to win games of football we all need it the point of why we're all so unhappy is because we lost so many but now we're in a situation it's like what if he wins what if he beats Dortmund you're like what the fuck world are we living in now because I'm I want to win every game the reason why I'm so fucking unhappy is because we keep losing everybody if we win this one it's like oh my god what the fuck are we doing now what happens next what he gets given Burnley what if we beat Burnley we're fucked if we win two games on the bounce we are fucked because if he beats Burnley he'll probably get the season he gets the season he gets October, November next year and maybe he starts the season well but come Christmas we're fucked back to square one Matt Law has also said Mauricio Poitino is likely to be considered as a long-term option for Tottenham if Thomas Frank is sacked yes come on like bring him back as well stop fucking like you're playing in a farmer's league I want to say this categorically now I watched some of his recent goals and defending in Germany is awful like he got the one he curled he curled into the top corner off the crossbar onto the post It was an incredible finish.
36There was no one around him. He had about four yards space in the opposition's 18. It wasn't good, boys. It wasn't good. Okay, that will do. Thank you very much, boys. We start with the only thing that’s made us smile all week, an Instagram banger from Olly_101 that basically sums up supporting Spurs right now. Then it’s straight into the West Ham misery, the corporate-seat experience, the inevitable early concession, and the familiar cycle of boos, brief hope, and collapse. We get into Vinai, the club’s “big plan”, whether Frank is just a placeholder for Dortmund, and why the Arteta comparison might be the most terrifying thing of all. Plus Porro’s petulance, the Somerville mismatch, why we didn’t just play Spence, and that weird new feeling where winning might actually be bad news.
