1:30Cock! Oh, come on, shut up! Everything's fine, isn't it? Everything's... So that was good. What are they moaning about? That was good, wasn't it? Good game. Don't... Yeah. No, at least you can say yes to the game. Doesn't matter what you're franking on. It was a good game. We played well. Good game. We played well. We had our backs against the wall. Came out. Big dick swinging. in the first 10-15 minutes I was like what the fuck is going on here where's this been and let's get this out of the way quickly I genuinely think the German league is utter muck but other than that I think you should give us some credit there anyway uh joined by Jack Hussey to trunk and of rule the roost mate rule the roost just seems to be flying at the moment I don't know what's changed, what you've done or what maybe they're finally coming around to you after 13 years.
2:32But Jack, it's resonating. It's good stuff. Is that patronising? Sorry. A little bit. A little bit. Sorry mate. I'm just trying to acknowledge the fact that it's going really well. I liked your comment the other day when you were talking about all of the I saw somebody said to you about all the offshoot pods that have basically spawned from Fighting Cop. You're welcome. you're saying well what would you all be without me yeah yeah yeah i was thinking about the car just driving along going what would everyone be doing if it wasn't for me right now but then i generally wasn't i didn't think of it quite like that but i was thinking about how mental it's just thinking about your podcast uh and john bass has just started a podcast and you've got one in danish and they and i was just thinking it all if like obviously these things would have happened anyway most people would have started or figured out a way to do it and that but it started from me being on the w7 but for the fine cock started from me being on w7 bus and listening to the spurs show footfield cornwell doing impressions of martin yarl which i absolutely loved you remember that back in the day i remember the spurs show You never listened to the first show?
3:45I have done since, but I didn't even have any idea what a podcast was when you first started talking about it. No, it's good when you meet sort of elderly gentlemen now and they go, what do you do for a living? I'm like, all right, podcast. And they look at you like you're a fucking animal. What are you on about a podcast? It's like a radio show on your phone. It's not a real job though, is it? According to my dad, I don't like work. That's what he says. You don't like work, do you? Well, kind of is work, dad. Yeah, but not proper work, not men's work, is it? Yeah, your dad did do a proper man's job, though.
4:17Yeah. That's a proper man's job. He says, my hands feel like a small woman's. Yeah. Nothing I ever do will be good enough for you, will it, Dad? Nothing. Just serious generational trauma. Genuinely, I'm well past the point of needing to impress my dad. I really am. But we went to Spurs at the weekend, as I mentioned in the last podcast, and that was a dire performance against West Ham. and last night was the direct opposite. And you're kind of thinking, well, where has this performance been for the entire season? Why did it all work? Why was it clicking? Dortmund give us a lot of space, but they wanted to play their game, which was like an attacking game.
4:54And we just defended well and just hurt them every time we had the ball up until the point where sending off from Svensson changed the sort of dynamic of the game and whatnot. And we just could kind of be somewhat reserved, although we continue to press. And yeah, just a wholesomely entertaining and enjoyable game of football. And just quickly, I was in a terrible mood when kickoff started because I'd hit a pothole on the way to my dad's and burst my tire. And you'll love this, Jack. I did something proper gammon. Go on. I went on the local Facebook group and moaned about potholes. Yeah. Yeah.
5:36Did you do lots of the red angry face emojis after it? I got 16 likes and the local councillor replied to me. So yes, I won last night. And Spurs won. Yeah, what's your takeaways from the game? Have your opinions in any way changed about Thomas Frank? Jack, let's start with you. I mean, I think if you look at this in an Occam's Razor fashion, what changed about last night that we haven't seen for the majority of the season is a proper number nine playing at the top. Made a big difference, didn't he? Yeah, is a left-sided, well, a true left-sided option playing at left back. You know, Destiny Doggy, who is actually a brilliant player as well.
6:19Two of our better players on the evening until Solanke went off. And it sort of stands to reason that Spurs would look much better with two really crucial, especially Solanke up top, two really crucial parts of the pitch actually covered adequately, which I think I'm not, you know, I'm not fully rowing back on Frank or anything like that yet. I think he's, he's got a lot to answer for. He's got a lot of angry Facebook posts to, to respond to before he's back in the good books, but maybe it's, it's just, I think it's maybe given me that little bit of food for thought that perhaps, perhaps we haven't quite extended him enough understanding for the types of injuries that he has received.
7:01Because look, I know people, I know people are always going to make the comparisons between him and Ange. Ange didn't get this. Frank gets this. Frank got that. Ange didn't get this. I think, yes, on the fringes, there are always going to be people that argue about these managers and what they've been given and what they haven't been given. I think, as is true with most things in life, most people are just down the middle and they have an opinion that is pretty much in tally with the majority of people. that is, Ange did a good job and he could have probably done a better job had he had all of his players available to him.
7:37Frank, equally, probably could be doing a better job, but doesn't have all his players available to him either. Again, I'm not saying he's playing his hand in the best way, but maybe just a little bit has opened up the door for me thinking, actually you know what Madison's out Kulicewski's out Solanke's been out for the majority of the season a doggy can't stay fit you know that sort of does mean something doesn't it like dad's alright he didn't hit mum tonight he's alright maybe he's alright is that what you're saying Jack? a little bit yeah the belt stayed on yeah didn't take his belt they weren't drinking tonight was not done can I just ask before moving on to Mark and getting his thoughts.
8:28Where was you at before the game with Frank? Get rid of him. I believe you called him a wanker two days ago. I think it was an actual wanker. Spiteful wanker. Spiteful wanker. You called him a wanker? Like the most inoffensive man. The most inoffensive Premier League manager in the whole league, I think. But he's a spiteful wanker. he's like the most beige person in football the sort of biggest piece of hypocrisy about this is I've just been waxing lyrical about the effect of Dominic Solanke back in the team it's because you put Dominic Solanke back in the team I called him a spiteful wanker I was going to ask what was the context what can you possibly done to be a wanker drop and tell out right you thought it was spite out of spite that you did that I do wonder what impact that has on tell and whether or not he'll look for a move now because he would be rightfully miffed and before the game I was going and I said in the preview we did on Patreon that it's unfair on Tell given what he's he's been he's been by being a sort of basic seven out of ten but one of our standout players in recent games just because he doesn't hide and he's happy to receive the ball and he will try things whereas on the opposite you've got Odebeer who seemingly is unwilling to and will not try things and has a nervous energy about him that Tell doesn't have.
9:56So I thought it was kind of, if one had to go, it probably should have been Odebairn, not Tell. And then last night Tell was fantastic. He was excellent at times. When he ran at pace, someone said he was like watching Lennon light up down the right-hand wing. The set-up for the Solanke goal, goal in inverted commas, it was just the speed at which he was playing in. He goes, that's it. That's what people see. That's what, when when company spoke about him in, in, you know, refused to find the correct superlative to describe what kind of player he could be. It was that kind of performance and I'm not even the kind of skying the first shot, which threw the defender off and then him crossing for Romero with the sort of followup play.
10:43Even in that, it was, there was a kind of tenacity to get on the ball. And it was just that, that sort of went throughout the team. I was, i was really impressed with the performance and really it was more impressed less impressed it was more like thank fuck we've seen something that we can enjoy even if it's momentary and fleeting this season has been by and large 99 95 of it just horrendous like really really miserable and we've all been miserable for five years pretty much more or less anyway um gal do you think people have lost sight of that a little bit because i i sort of felt like among certain circles there was a bit of a almost disappointed air to last night that Spurs had actually because like you say over overwhelmingly for me the feeling was Spurs have won in the Champions League Spurs have beaten Dortmund again Spurs have fought that's quality like that's like let's not lose sight of what we're all doing here right like we support Tottenham Hotspur and yeah it doesn't mean we can't still have issues with Thomas Frank doesn't mean that you know you're somehow turning your back on Ange Postacoglu or whatever it is, whatever your motivation is for being angry about Spurs winning.
11:51Just enjoy that moment. Yeah. Sure. Right. Yeah. I mean, that's the point of being alive is you find the moments and enjoy them, not hate them when the good things come, because what do you think about this theory, Mark? Right. Yes. No, hang on. I haven't said the theory, have I? Oh, I thought you just wanted me to comment on what Jackson. I do want you to, and I have asked you about three questions and you haven't got a chance to answer them yet. Jack just jumped in. Yeah. Jack has jumped in, but he is the guess. He's just lost it. I'm not worried. Big ego. Big ego. Big ego. Listen, big air. Big cheeks.
12:24Right. He was given Borussia Dortmund when we thought he shouldn't have. And we said, what if he beats Dortmund? Well, he's going to get Burnley. And what if he beats Burnley? If he beats Burnley, he gets the season, I think. Right? Just because of the way Vinay operates and you're kind of looking for positives. And if it's a good win against Burnley, I think he gets the season. If he gets the season, he gets the summer. And if he gets the summer, you might as well at least give him October, November next year. And if he gets to October, November next year, give him another season as well. Yeah.
12:58Could this, could this, I know it's ridiculous, it's one game, but could this be the moment everything changes for Thomas Frank?
13:09Yeah, I mean, that's a big question, isn't it? I'll tell you what I did know is that it definitely plays into a lot of people's hands because the club clearly haven't got an interim lined up, right? Because otherwise they would have pulled the trigger. It would have been not a lot of effort for them. They wouldn't have lost very much by just pulling the trigger and putting the interim in and then looking towards, you know, the next permanent manager and so on. So I don't think they've got that worked out yet. So this does work out. And I think that will end up kind of having some important context in this conversation, less so what they think, you know, what fans think and so on.
13:47So I think it's, I mean, clearly it's bought in Burnley because they've come out and said that already. And if we get a good performance against Burnley, then yeah, I think you're right. I think it becomes about more than just the next game. It might be that he, you know, he has a little bit more credit in the bank and so on. But, you know, I think they're still, they're still going to press on with their work behind the scenes. I think they're still going to work I think what's changed potentially in the clubs in Vinay and Lange's mind is probably more, it's less now about an interim. They're probably, I think in the next game or two or three, they're going to make a reasonably quick decision on where they want to just keep them in.
14:28But I still think the summer will be the next big milestone. And if there isn't a huge improvement, and yeah, yesterday was a big improvement, but there's a ton of context. I think the Premier League is going to be the important one. The Premier League is what the managers kind of live and die by. The cup competitions are less important. I mean, Ange literally is a perfect example of that, you know, winning the Europa League and then get sacked because he finished 17th. So I think it's more a question of that interim phase rather than the long term. I think there's a huge amount, there's not a lot of risk.
15:03Like the season's gone, right? Like we're not, you know, we're in a de facto relegation fight, but we're not going to get relegated. I don't think so. So the season's gone. Like we're not going to win the Champions League. But so what are we gaining from putting an interim? And I think that will be their conversation. It's more about what's happening in the summer because that's a lot more long-term for them. That was a boring answer to your very funny. No, no, no. I think not at all. I think that there was a conversation we had, and John was quite sort of strong on it in the last episode, and we had like a mini argument, not an argument, back and forth about it, about him sort of suggesting that because it works at Arsenal and he gave Arteta time that he's a patient CEO and he will give Frank every opportunity.
15:58and moreover he's willing to look at the um situation that frank's in in terms of the injuries uh in terms of the the battleship analogy that has been given constantly that this is going to take a long time to turn around and if they are aligned on that then they will accept performances and results that um as fans we won't and we wouldn't we can't because our life and our experiences where our football club is game by game it's not six years down the line or five-year plan and if you're a ceo and you're you're having to run a football club with as many running moving parts as this and you're a manager having to deal with many many issues unforeseen and that there is directors of football and players leave it manages to leave it sorry chairman leaving and and sporting directors leaving all of that has a massive impact and are mitigating factors for failure and as fans we won't accept that and I don't think we should depression needs to be on constantly and the and it's not that there is no issues that the boo boo's ring out at wire lane as it currently stands when you've only won four in in a season or wherever it might be or four in a calendar year five now um so I guess my question to you uh Jack is is do you think that VNI is going to give him every opportunity to make this work or is he much more aligned if you had to guess with supporters who think his time's done and dusted and just to give you some color to that his current approval rating as we like to do every week last week it was 2.8 percent after West Ham it's gone up anyone like to guess how much percentage-wise it's gone up from 2.8 after West Ham to have a guess so is it out of 100 right yeah 100 it's a percentage right so it's 2.8 percent of uh 2.8 percent yeah that's how that's what we want him i was thinking like 2.8 out of 10 i was thinking like okay that's like but 2.8 percent is stark 2.8 people out of 100.
18:12Maybe 10%. No, not that much. No, near that much. Five? No, it's gone up to 3.1%. Wow. Oh my God. So it's barely moved. I don't believe in him. I don't believe he's going to get it right. I think he definitely needs to be sacked. That's how I feel. Although I feel less aggressive about it today than I did before kickoff yesterday. I'm exactly with you. I'm exactly with you. I think that's the general consensus. And I'm with you as well. It's just, for me, it's a question of timing, right? And it has to be less, and you said it just before, Flav, this is where we as fans think pretty much game to game and we're mostly all emotion, right?
18:54And that's fine. This is not a, well, actually, some of you do make money on this. But for other fans, for most fans, they don't make money on it. It's a hobby and so on. So it is almost purely emotional. So, you know, it's right to be emotional is what I'm trying to say. But you should kind of think about it slightly more pragmatically than that as well. Because if you just want him out now, like you are saying that that's a reset. And everyone in the club, all these people that work for the club, you know, on the pitch and behind the scenes and so on, are going to be thrown into a massive amount of upheaval at a stage in the season where we're 14th and it's a really bad atmosphere at home and all that kind of stuff.
19:41I do think even with a short-term kind of fan perspective that it needs to be done at the right time because it's not like, just because there's going to be an interim manager in there. It's almost like we're just trying to satisfy a little bit of bloodlust and just throw some red meat at a rabid dog just to kind of appease the dog a little bit. But that dog's still going to be rabid after it's eaten this quarter pounder. Like it's, do you know what I mean? Like I just don't know how much we're going to gain as a club from this immediate sack him right now if I can get rid of him. Because we've got, like, there's not a lot to really salvage apart from pride and so on.
20:22It's hard to know how much this stuff matters really. but I don't know if either of you seen the video of Frank walking around the pitch after, you know, final whistle yesterday, he was getting some pretty big and warm embraces from a number of the players. And I was, I was genuinely speaking, I was actually quite surprised. I made this, I did the, I made that point in one of our WhatsApp groups. There was, there was lots of, and he, players were initiating the hugs, you know, like the, you know, Doggy came over and gave him, Riccario came over and gave him a fucking massive bear hug. there was a lot of that um the the you know there was lots of pats on the back and like longer than just you know the kind of play for the camera eye contact the body language was there i i after west ham i was like nah fuck it like i literally said get rid of him right now because it didn't seem like the players were were were kind of they didn't give a shit it felt like they weren't playing for him anymore like i don't know it's such a cliche right but I don't know if playing for him it is important yeah no no it is but they were all with Ange and they were all with every manager you'd have to be some kind of fucking psycho to just like for him to win and just go nah like not embrace him you'd have to be a head case I don't know there's it's kind of the problem I've got with it and I don't know if this is real boys this is kind of how I feel it's like an us and them mentality right whereas you've been our VNC saying we want to bring everyone together but meanwhile you've got Pedro Porro doing the year signing to the crowd like how about that and and you know van der Ven mentioning that I'm trying to fight the fans and Spence walking off about you know it kind of feels like they and that that huddle together before going off for halftime will never quite understand what that's about and it just at this stage it feels a little bit like it's a less than them situation and I'm almost reluctant to say that because it's the last thing in the world you want and it might not even be true it's just i just do you know what though there are benefits to that like jose mourinho was always he was a he was a master of the siege mentality instilling that siege mentality into squads i'm not saying it's good that the that the players are fighting fans but it's certainly better in my opinion that the players feel unified at like feel as a unit than that they're fractured because when when they're fractured that like That's it.
22:48That's when managers get the sack, right? When they lose that kind of sense of a unit and they lose the face in the manager and all that kind of stuff. And I don't really, certainly after yesterday, after West Ham, I was not sure. After yesterday, and it's easier after a win, I get that. But after yesterday, to Jack's point, I saw a ton of unity. I saw them and the cameras also helped with this because they actually filmed them huddling before coming off at halftime. and also after there was lots of footage of these embraces and these kind of chats and so on. I also noticed Solanke and Solanke's interactions with the other players and how much he was kind of arms around shoulders.
23:29He was really showing that seniority, that leadership within the group, which is, again, also something we've missed massively. Danso and Byfield, there was lots and lots of these really positive, constructive little kind of interactions. And the key thing is obviously transferring all this into our Premier League kind of sphere and performances and getting a performance out of it. And, you know, Burnley on Saturday will be a key indicator. But it's actually something I thought as well. I do think there is something to, you know, because our record in Europe is pretty amazing, unbeaten in 24. Yeah.
24:12That's like amazing. We've conceded the least goals in the competition so far as well. Like we've been really, really good. And we're fourth. Yeah. We've conceded the least goals in the competition. Uh-huh. Which is insane. No, it makes sense. There is something to it. But so is there something, is there like, I don't know. Do we have some sort of mentality issue around the Premier League? Are the players too, like, are they fatigued with it? Is it, you know, is it too much pressure? Is it the home? Like what is it? It's the standards. It's so much higher. domestically across the board. It can't just be that though.
24:47Can't just be that because our drop-off is so stark. It can't just be that. It can't just be that. I generally think the Premier League is by a country mile the most difficult league to play in definitely in Europe. I think that most clubs in the Premier League could easily make the top, what's it called? Where are we? Is it top 24 in this? English. what'd you say English English English barely any of them are English that's a bloody fucking problem isn't it no fucking English owners no English players they're all fucking foreigners no managers no English managers ever won the Premier League nothing English about the English League let me tell you that Jack the no the I've lost my point there no so I think the standard I think the standard moreover the pace of the Premier League is better generally across the board than Champions League football, I think.
25:46And it worries me that Bayern Munich are the second favourites to Arsenal. Because I don't think they're that good either. They've already beaten them. They can't defend. No one in Germany can defend. Like if we don't beat Frankfurt, I think we're going to beat Frankfurt handedly next week. I think it's going to be 2-0, something like that. maybe 2-1 3-1 none of them can defend they just cannot defend you've seen the space that Harry Kane gets we don't want to play down these attributes like what a well class player he is he is so much better than that league he shouldn't be anywhere near it he should definitely still be playing in the Premier League he's lowered himself to play there anyway let's not take let's not labour that point too much because it means that the performance wasn't as good as we witnessed there may be a lot about that does it make you worry that Voskovic might be crap?
26:38it has crossed my mind I can't say it hasn't crossed my mind it has I don't know I'm just obsessed with the Twitter account which is just these two Croatian blokes just wanking him off constantly just go he's best he's the best defender he's got to go to Tottenham he's got to start what are you on about if Romero and Van de Ven are still there next season Vucevic doesn't start for Spurs maybe he should maybe give him an opportunity but I reckon Van de Ven will go anyway I think if we get good money for him we'll sell him that's my just throwing that one out there cheers Jack cheers we'll deal with that when it comes you talk about that on your podcast exactly keep that fucking heresy to yourself just intrusive thoughts isn't it you know they come out pour out you know
27:26just as news come through they say you should learn something new every day like how you should only drink Jägermeister at zero degrees Fahrenheit ice cold like those frozen cavemen they find, which makes you wonder, what would a caveman think of Jägermeister? Well, if you served it warm, he'd probably throw it in your face, say, Oonga Boonga, and storm off. And nobody wants that. So drink it cold or not at all. Jägermeister. Damn, that's cold. Drink responsibly. Jägermeister liqueur, 35 % alcohol by volume. Imported by Masked Jägermeister, U.S., White Plains, New York. This episode is brought to you by State Farm.

Surprise! 25 million pound bid for West Ham's winger Crescensio Somerville Somerville yeah like I said last week he's their best player like better than Bowden he's better yes and if there's any world where we can get him the problem is we've got Tell Odebeer and Mikey Mill are all in playing the same situation same position I think he's better than Odebeer and I think he's better than Tell and I would entertain a 25 million pound bid for sure if there's a way of getting him I can't see it but it would mean that Tell would almost certainly be gone would you be willing to risk that sell Tell if some of it wasn't a possibility I mean I feel like I'm sort of biased I really like Mathis Tell I always feel like every time I'm every time I watch him I'm like this kid clearly has loads of talent I don't really get the I understand the pushback from people that feel that we should have say maybe like you know apportion some of our resources if you like to buying somebody who was a bit more ready for now mathistel you know costing us what 35 mil or something like that who for an 18 19 year old who perhaps isn't quite ready yet i get that i get that argument but to say he's bad i i don't agree with i think he is a really talented good player um i think i think most people agree with you i don't know but it sounds like i don't know there's a lot of talk of i didn't even know Paris FC were a thing but apparently they're a club with loads of money now and they want to buy him.
30:31They want him to be the figurehead of the project. So maybe Spurs will cut their losses. Paris Saint-Germain? No, no. Paris FC. Paris FC. I never even heard of them. They want to sign Matissell, do they? Yeah. I think they've had a big takeover and they want him to be the face of the club. The new era that the club's entering into. This is all hearsay. Do you know what I mean? This is all stuff that you see on Twitter. But I just wonder if there is any truth to that, if they offer us a sizable amount of money, if Spurs will just cut their losses and let them go. What would you say? If it was, what kind of money would you be willing to accept, Jay?
31:12What are we buying for? 35? Yeah. I mean, once conditions are met and stuff, 35 million euros. I don't know. 50, 60? I think we will take 50 or 60 probably but we probably shouldn't this is the thing but then selling is important anyway there's a couple things I want to talk about I want to talk about Solanke's goal I want to talk about Byfield making his debut as well but before that just want to get your thoughts on this before we this will be the last bit of Thomas Frank talk but this is from where's my spacebar 2 on Reddit he says if anything this game shows why Frank needs to be sacked ASAP everyone's saying that Frank should be excused because he we have no players that are technically or technical or can pass the ball no players that can press hard and hold on to the ball etc that first half was fucking electric we can very clearly play an amazing style of football we have a young team that are good at it only thing missing is a manager who knows that knows that style and can improve the team around it and uh the coldest says sack him that second half is what Thomas ranked ball is about not being able to get the third goal on the 10-man side that tells you everything.
32:27Actually, I don't even need your thoughts and opinions on that. I feel like we've covered it. I probably shouldn't even read them out. I feel like that's been unfair as well, personally. I thought we were good in the second half. I thought we created chances that players on the pitch were just sort of profligate with them. That's my opinion. I'll tell you what, it wasn't profligate. Sorry, go on. No, no, no, go on. I was just going to, it's fine. I was just going to be annoyed. It's fine. I'll tell you what wasn't profligate. Solanke's goal. It was, when at first I was like, oh my God, what's he done there?
33:02And I thought he's back healed it. He's back healed it. He's turned it into the corner on the net. I was like, get in, Dom. He's back. He's fucking back. And I watched it and I'm going, you shouldn't be celebrating that. And you know, I, there was a bit where he was like laughing and I'm thinking, oh he's laughing because it was such a terrible goal and he didn't mean to score it nah that was his planned celebration it was an anime sort of fucking I don't know his favourite anime apparently his favourite anime when he's holding his mouth and celebrating no it's a genuine celebration you're claiming that one are you you're claiming that one you've done I mean I don't want to be arsed on the man he's he's just back from a terrible long injury and it is a goal but yeah it was a bit like I thought we were laughing because the goal was so shit that's what I thought Does the anime stuff rattle you, Gal?
33:50Yeah. Of course it does. Look at me. I'm the demographic rattled by that sort of stuff. I'm pink. I'm not even white anymore. I'm pink. I'm 44-year-old. I'm pink. Slightly overweight and I live in the West Country. Of course it rails me. Just scrolling through Instagram. He's only played one game in a season. He's putting cartoons on Instagram. What are you fucking doing? Grow up. He's just had a baby. Grow up. You've got a baby. You might have a second baby. Mate, he could be Tommy Robinson if he was scoring goals for Spurs. I wouldn't mind do you know what I mean it's like you've got to be you've got to be in it to win it Gal you've got to be in the right in the right position they all count I think it's his first the guy's first ever Champions League goal Matt no I'm not being genuinely disparaging of him I feel like Grail's well happy for him I don't genuinely have an issue with the anime stuff let me be clear I can make a joke nice one Jack no one thinks I'm properly you know against all that Jack's a plant she's here to just rabble rouser was he made a big difference didn't he massive difference he just held up the ball and I'm excited to have him back and up to speed and just shows you how much we missed him and how important he is Byfield's debut he came on the pitch he's 17 years old didn't he that is a man he is a man the problem with Williams Barnett and Jamie Donnelly when they played is they looked like slowly, slightly below the pace, but also physically so challenging for them because they just don't have the meat on the bones.

35:27Whereas Bifield just looks completely comfortable is what I'd say about his performance. Do you know what I mean, Mark? He just looked completely calm about what he's been asked to do. He's played right back and then he was in midfield and he just didn't look out of place at all. No, no. But from everything you read as well, he's been exceptionally good in training. He's obviously trained with the senior team for a little while now. And yeah, physically he's ready, but mentally as well, which is the important thing. Football at this level is not – 50 % it's about your skills and your physicality and stuff, and 50 % is about your mentality and your approach to it.
36:05I don't know if you've listened to his interview afterwards. I haven't heard what it say. He was just very, very composed. He was very calm. He was very, very mature sounding. He's only just turned 17 in December. Like he's only just 17. He's basically, he's literally a kid. And he spoke with, you know, it didn't, it wasn't a James Madison type interview, but he gave loads of insight and so on. He's not media trained, but he was just really calm. Just spoke about his family, how much it meant and, you know, how important it is to work hard and prepare and all that kind of stuff. Said all the right things, but not in a like, yeah, you've been told to say, all this kind of stuff.
36:44Just someone who really, just really wants it and clearly has the mental makeup to kind of do it at this level. It was on his socials as well afterwards. All the senior players were giving comments and things like that. So there's a huge amount of belief in there. And that's something as well that's key. And I don't know if you guys noticed this, but we spoke about this, but when Xavi first started playing for us, because obviously he was thrown directly in, he wasn't really getting the ball very much because our players maybe weren't 100 % sure on him or didn't kind of really know where he was going to pub up or so.
37:16Byfield slotted straight in, was asking for the ball, was getting the ball, was immediately part of the team. And yeah, some of that is from being in practice, but it's also because he's built that confidence within the rest of his teammates to be receiving the ball. He's also a centre-back. There was times he was picking the ball up in midfield and looked comfortable. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And, you know, it's, I liked, there was a question in the post-game interview that he had, if he knew that he was going to be playing right back. And he was like, no, I was, you know, I was told it would be probably left centre back or centre back or right back.
37:52But, you know, I'm just, I'm ready for anything. and very similar to actually to how, you know, if you've heard interviews of Archie Gray and so on, like they've still got, they've all got that really elite kind of grounded mentality of they'll just, they'll play wherever they are, they're told to go. So it bides, Bowles, sorry, not bides, Bowles really well. This is your second language. Yeah, exactly. Speak it better than you two cunts. And so, yes, I hope people will see more of that coming from the Academy. of me what's the word there is unnecessary apologize to jack please he's our guest this is a bit rude isn't it yeah that was i called for i don't know why i'm lashing out i didn't sleep much last night so that's my own fault less of that gimli
38:43never tell us all jack said leave my own with today and i went mark i'm furious you put me on with Gimli. Toss me. Very good, Jack. So just in case people don't know, Byfield is captaining England's under-17s in the recent 2025 UEFA European under-17 championship. He's also played for England under-16s, under-17s. So I think a lot of him, don't they? I think a lot of people think of Williams Barnett as our kind of standout player because he's playing forward and he's very, you know, very exciting the way he is he's been playing in the under 21s and Premier League 2 and what not but they think a lot of Byfield and it'll be interesting to see how he grows into it I think we're probably going to need him with the injuries and what not.
39:34I know you can't put too much pressure on these lads shoulders but at the same time it is I don't know for the first time since you know when you think about the sort of the Mason Pritchard Kane kind of days it's the first time in what a decade plus that you've seen a crop of young players in the academy that you think maybe you know if it goes well we could have a core of a you know homegrown team here that it's not to say they're all going to go on and be superstars but like with that pochettino team you've got a platform there don't you where you've got a lot of homegrown players who will go above and beyond for the shirt a bit and maybe we'll get that connection going again you know they might be three four years off being able to play for us properly so with Mikey Moore didn't we I think we maybe tried to rush him a bit sort of to your point about Luca Williams Barnett I felt that a bit of Mikey Moore last year I felt like he was always trying really hard you could see there was ability there but he was trying really really hard to prove himself in the sort of senior game and I think actually the year at Rangers I watched the the old firm derby a few two three weeks ago and Mikey Moore or something, I looked at him, I was like, just his frame and everything, he's suddenly like a man now.
40:48Do you know what I mean? You could see the way he was moving about, the way he held himself, just his actual physicality. So I feel like he will come back and be an asset. We shouldn't forget about him as well, how highly he's rated. Just overall, I think it's excited. Byfield, he was composed. He was really, really good. And if that's the sort of performance he's managing to put on his debut in the Champions League at 17 years old, then it's very, very promising, isn't it? It is, indeed. I think we need to, I thought, we need to highlight Jed Spence's performance, but certainly in that first half.
41:23Like, is he a fullback? I don't know. Well, I was really encouraged by it, really encouraged by playing. When the sort of ITK come through, that we heard it earlier yesterday morning that he was going to be starting on a part of the front three, everyone was sort of laughing and stuff. He looked completely comfortable there. Had zero issues at all. In fact, actually looked dangerous. Every time he got the ball, I was excited to see what he could do. Is it a case of it? I mean, you know, he started out in fullback, but really his better position is going forward. Defensively, if you're having, if you've got a doggy, so one of the issues with a doggy, right, is how defensively sound is he, right?
42:02We know he's good carrying the ball. You know, he's good at creating triangles and finding opportunities and breaking space. and I thought he was really good enough for a great deal of balance last night. But having them two on that left-hand side is pretty solid. But Jed Spence, I wouldn't mind Jed Spence and a doggy against a team that would want to try and play against us. Like Arsenal, while laying in a month's time. A left-hand side of those two could be quite effective in nullifying them and be an attacking outlet as well. I think I like that balance. Because I mean, honestly speaking, when people have sort of been clamouring for Jed Spence you know there's been that sort of idea he's taking a doggie's place like we need to have a doggie on the left and then let's have Jed Spence out on the right and see what he can do but I always feel like every time we see Jed Spence out on the right that he never seems that comfortable playing now even though he is a right-footed player
43:00and hence we put him on the left because I think he's more effective there whether that's good for the system good for the way we play or not that's the question isn't it but if this is the if this is the answer to it having him and a doggy play alongside each other overlapping doing similar duties but fundamentally having different duties if you get what i mean it's uh it's really exciting because it worked alarmingly well yesterday didn't it like you say it went from being something where you thought he's doing what to suddenly like hang on hang on No, this is all right. Is this fucking working?
43:35Hold on a second, is this fucking working, is it? I think quite a key ingredient in that as well was the role that Xavi had, because Xavi was allowed a little bit more space to kind of roam and take part. And I thought how Xavi played both with the doggie, but also with Spence, I thought that worked really, really well. So, but I mean, look, Jed Spence is a right footed player. He does, and you did see that yesterday. He did that kind of, you know, knock it past the player and then take it inside onto his right foot. He liked that and then having no in-product at all, but whatever. Talk about another day.

Mike and Nick and Nick and Alice, only on Hulu. The film stars Vince Vaughn, James Marsden, and Asa Gonzalez in a wild action comedy about one disastrous night that spirals out of control.
45:31And here's the twist. There are two Vince Vaughns. Don't miss Mike and Nick and Nick and Alice, written and directed by Ben David Grabinski, streaming this Friday, only on Hulu. Rated R.
45:46I do think there is potentially something there, but it was more of a 3-4-3 yesterday, right? So he wasn't an out-and-out attacker. He wasn't a winger as such. He was more in that sort of wing-back position. He sort of flitted between the four and the three at the back. I thought that was quite interesting as well and potentially something we should take in. I know Frank did it just to match up Dortmund's 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1 really. But it did give a little bit, I just felt it gave a little bit more balance in midfield. Gave us a little bit, you know, we still are solid defensively. And it gave us a bit more of an angle, a bit more, it threw in a different kind of attacking option with Spence and so on.
46:29So I wouldn't mind trying that approach in the league as well and seeing kind of how that worked. What's your end product like, mate? my end product I do a really good run up and then that's it well I'm just interested right because we sort of you know we're giving him his plaudits right we're trying to boost him up he played that position he did a really good and you you know five foot three all five foot three of you you know rolls down the road if anything is criticising Jess Bent's end product do you know do you know I've had enough of this season is negative Danes I've had enough of them.
47:08Gandhi's across the board. Specifically Danes. Negative Danes. We've got fucking Langer's a negative Danes. We've got fucking Gimli. Sourpuss Danes. Yeah, there's nothing going on there. That's the problem. Oh, it's pragmatic. Constantly pointing out your errors to you. All this, oh, we don't embrace superfluous conversation where we're from. No, you're just miserable, aren't you? We tell it like it is. Yeah, yeah, yeah. wankers yeah yeah it's like that that thing that meme going around right where there's one picture of Ange Postacoglu going I will win a trophy in my second season and the next one goes across to Thomas Frank and he goes we will lose games his first press conference guaranteed we will lose games come on fella come on give us something to work with help yourself if anything come on it's so fucking Danish I can't even run away from it is it it literally is yeah no it's actually this is quite interesting like what what is that about praising the opposition um sort of downplaying your own attributes perhaps not necessarily building up your own team is that traits of a danishman yeah we have a uh like an unwritten law in denmark called yenderlohn the law of yender you can look it up so it's essentially and literally it's drilled into you from when you're little it's essentially don't don't think you're better than anyone else.
48:34So whenever you speak about anything really, just kind of know thine place sort of thing. But it's different to kind of the imperialist, colonialist English, know thy place in the grand scheme of, we don't have a lord and underling system. but yeah that's it so it's not like that he thinks that he wants to put you down or us down when he says look we're going to be we're going to you know we are going to lose games he's just trying I think to set the tone a little bit and not over kind of promise and under deliver but that's been but that's been part of my criticism of it as well is you know that's all well and good and having that and yes it would work in Denmark and so on and it works for Brentford but it just you should adapt yourself for this for this size of club because you are going to take you are going to have people take things out of context you are going to have people you know doctor your statements spiteful wanker spiteful wanker can I just look up this Yenter Law what is wrong with you people can i can i read this to you gal please do you enter law is so it's 10 rules so start from number one which is you are not to think you're anything special you are not to think you're as good as we are you're not to think you're smarter than we are you're not to imagine yourself better than we are you're not to think you know more than we do who's the we by the way um just the general general combination you're not to think you're more important than we are you're not to think you're good at anything you're not to laugh at us you're not to think anyone cares about you you're not to think you can teach us anything this makes so much sense now when you read that i sound pretty bad i just yeah it's not necessarily so i'm not defending this by the way like no no you're asking to explain what they're It's very old school.
50:44Yeah, yeah. It's very old school. But it's funny that you say that because we were thinking, right, well, if everyone wants Daniel Levy out, someone's got to do something drastic. It's really drastic. What have they got to do? Someone's got to do something that's going to change their own life for a long time. So we worked out in the WhatsApp group who had the least to live for. Oh, for fuck's sake. And we all agreed, Mark, had the least to live for. Despite me having two... Fair in mind, I've got two tiny kids. A lot of people that depend on me. I've got a very sick mum, because I'm paying for.
51:18We've come to the agreement that Mark has the least to live on. So it should be him that commits the heinous act. But based on what Jack just read out, you should say, yeah, fair enough. Can I quickly remind everyone that we're sponsored by Saley? Boys, have you ever...
51:45if ever you have to escape the uk after doing this heinous act mark um yeah you may need uh an e-sim rather than buying uh mobile data or a dodgy sim an airport kiosk um so you just download the app once you choose a plan and you're connected the moment you land and there's no charges from your um from e or vodafone or wherever you're with you're just paying directly into e-sim and it's the most affordable way to do it uh if you're traveling to europe you're traveling to asia if um you're going to argentina where jack's lot are from then uh salie has your has you covered uh with regional and global plans plus enjoy added privacy and web protection built right in.

If the bubble containing the pot's dream does burst and Spurs will be looking for new managers in the summer, what would be the first, who would be on your top three in your shortlist?
53:09Are you, I can't remember how you feel about Poch. Frank. Is that a joke? Is that an actual joke? So is that, are they saying if the Poch bubble burst means if we can't have Pochettino? Is that what they're saying? Yeah. Who would it be top three? But you're, we're all pro-Poch, right? Yeah, I'd have Poch back. I think there's this sort of, well there's this there's this understanding it's not going to be as good as it was well yeah it probably won't be but if he can at least sort of Martin Yollett if he can bring the good vibes back and set us up for somebody to step in Narl Guzman whoever sounds like he's going to Man United doesn't it but still someone like that to step in then fine but I don't I don't see it happening to be honest so I'm not really sort of getting that invested in the idea of Potch coming back really that's what I say out that's what I say out What about those?
54:03Actually, you've got to go, Mark, but who would be your top three quickly on the short list if you were? Yeah. I keep flitting around, but honestly, I know it's not just an easy answer, but I do think Potch would be a very, very good option for our next permanent manager. I think he's got the... I think we underestimate Spurs fans because we know him from when he was kind of coming through and he's got this special place in our heart. I do think we underestimate how much of a well thought of and highly thought of and thought of as elite manager that he is. You don't get the PSG job if you're not considered an elite manager.
54:42You don't get the Chelsea job if you're not, well, Liam Rossini, besides the fact. He is an elite manager and he would bring all those things that we need, both in terms of his mentality and his approach to the game. and I don't think the game was passed him by like I see a lot of people talk about I think he would still bring up something fresh and something that we would appreciate watching in terms of football you know but yeah I think Nargelsmann would be good I mean Klopp would be the dream but that's never going to happen he's not going to he's not going to manage outside of Liverpool again I don't know because he sold out and went to Leipzig anyway didn't he?
55:25they don't hate well they don't hate well you know Liverpool fans yeah no they've got no problem with that at all no problem they love him it goes against every fiber of their being doesn't it yeah listen they'd welcome him back if he goes pear-shaped with slot they would love him back they'd welcome him back with open arms I can tell you that for a fact but yeah my top three is Parch Klopp as an outsider or Tuchel Tuchel and Klopp Tuchel and Parch would be my top two how about you Jack I don't know enough I don't know enough managers Xavi Lonzo let's have him fine yeah or Luis Enrique yeah if he fancies it have Luis Enrique look if either of those were were possible then yeah for sure Xavi would be the one out of those two I think Luis Enrique is an unreal manager but I don't know if his I don't know if he's a if he would I don't know if he'd piss everyone off too quickly Xabi Alonso also is quite a a tricky one to work with apparently he's very very stubborn very set in his ways and very demanding very very very much about the bit of an AVB bit of an AVB yeah yeah yeah you see AVB has the best win percentage in all competitions as a Spurs manager yeah that's a well known fact man it wasn't well known fact do you think because you didn't know about it do you not I've been fucking doing this for years right I've been doing the fighting court for 15 years if it was a well known fact I'd have fucking known it says more about you than anyone else mate but anyway you keep that on Gareth Bale was Gareth Bale was a cheat code though wasn't he yeah he was Gareth Bale oh yeah anyway yeah go on you've got to shoot my kids will be homeless if I don't go and pick them up didn't they once go to an orgy your kids in the reception room while an orgy was no I left them in the car just wheeled the window down just ever so slightly so they had fresh air another one of these Danish laws do you know in denmark they've got a character a children's character where the the character it has a willy that's ginormous and long and can do things with his willy like men cars or or screw screw screw light bulbs in yeah his name is john dealerman google that now jack while we're being serious yeah no no we're 100 % serious on a really one of our early pods i think we spoke about this john dealerman it's a it's a cartoon it's and And do you know what the funniest thing is?
57:54And this is so fucking Danish. The producers or the creators of the show had loads and loads of input from child psychologists. And they were like, yeah, yeah, this is great. This is healthy. Like talking about your genitals and stuff. It's brilliant. It's a guy with a, I don't know, 20 foot penis that has a... Have you seen that? It's like Go Go Gadget. But with his cock. Yeah, I have seen it. It's some... It's brilliant. It makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. I'm not going to lie. This is the kids. Nah, you guys need to liberate your minds. Is it still on now to this day? Yeah, I think so. Well, I think you can still watch it.
58:36I don't know if they're still doing new shows, but it was only a few years ago that it came out. So, yeah, back in the early 2020s, I think, 2021. So, anyway, on that note, RPG boys, goodbye. okay mate thank you very much for joining us i've lost the geezer's number uh the message here um what the willy one no no forget about that we'll let's move on from that if you can forget the willy man yeah forget john dillingman or whatever his name is um uh we've got a question from tak heyo and he said uh didn't someone in this podcast say jed spence left wing many weeks ago and the rest of you guys shout on him maybe mate maybe we did right you can get things wrong why do you in this moment think right well no actually i've found everyone's fucked up here and i'm gonna make them aware do you ever get this when you're podcasting jack but then we come back and remember when you said this yeah but i said it then when the context was different i get it more on twitter where for a large for what for about i've recently changed it to a picture of myself now but for a large amount of the time i've been on there there was a picture of an elephant as my profile picture where did that come from and the majority of my posts were just nonsense and still are and so you know i can spout off at 11 o 'clock when i've had a couple of glasses of wine or something an opinion about football and people hold you to it weeks like you said this of course I'm a moron.
1:00:09Yeah. Do you know what I mean? I'm a moron. You know, you've actually invested in what I've said. You're the silly one, you know? Yeah. You've seen what at Ted Trunk has said on Twitter and let it rattle you. Actually, Jack, I hold my opinion quite to high regard. So I expect them to listen to me. Okay. All right. Now that's understandable. Yeah. Do you know, I don't know if you've been aware of this sort of ongoing war I've got with Villa fans at the moment. They're deranged. They're strange, strange, strange fan base. Really weird. I'd say even weirder than Arsenal. I think they're hands down the weirdest fan base.
1:00:49So just as a quick recap, I said that, well, the overlap clipped up a bit where I said that Aston Villa, you know, it's ridiculous that they're not a big six club. They'll never overtake Spurs. They're in the championship like two years ago. and that was said a couple of years ago and overlap before the game clipped it up because they want con they want their contents be you know old content cheers lads thanks yeah yeah it's like mate fucking do you know like so you've done that for 250 likes and now my mentions are an absolute fucking pole pot would be a power proud of the devastation in my fucking uh mentions there right um so they've come for me and i'm like i don't understand why they've come for me but fair enough whatever then two days later cole park um connor gallagher signs for spurs and i'm like fucking hold that remember your place food chain is what i put so that was like one all when they all went mental um and then obviously a couple days later we lost the west so they came back and had a go at me again and I was like fucking alright fucking 2-1 to you lot but I'll be back the next day they lost to Everton so I was like 2-0 and then Kamara was out for the season because of the injury sustained on him by one of our players who was Paul Inia so not only but by Conor Gallagher but we just lost him I didn't know we'd Matty cashed one of theirs we did them we did them I didn't have the bollocks to go back on Twitter and go, free to, come on.
1:02:32I just, at the end, eventually the energy of being hated does catch up on you a little bit. Have they given you the whole, we've won the league seven times, you've only won it twice? I haven't heard that one. Have they won the league seven times? Well, yeah, they've won this league seven times. I think, what is it, five of those wins, five of those league wins were in the 19th century. Which, look, I know people like... We don't even talk about our league win, do we? We don't even mention it. People like to do the whole... Football didn't just exist from the beginning of the Premier League, did it?
1:03:06But, you know, there is a level of relativity to all of this stuff, isn't there? Someone said to me that we'd finished in the top six 15 of the last 20 seasons and Aston Villa had finished top six five of the last 20 seasons. And I'd spent three years in the championship in those period. So how fucking dare they even come to our doorstep and knock for scraps? I think that'll do, Jack. You had enough for me? No, we've just been running for an hour and, you know, prime podcast. I don't know. How long do your podcast go on for generally? Yeah, about an hour. It feels quite natural, doesn't it? It sort of winds down naturally after about an hour.
1:03:51behind behind the curtain like if anyone wants is ever interested in sort of podcasting etiquette 40 minutes is apparently what you should aim for because 40 minutes goes past quite quickly and it leaves people wanting more anything shorter than 40 minutes they feel short-changed but 40 minutes is like the it's what you should aim for so in future jack if you want to in any way maximize your the output of your input aim for 40 minutes well i feel like i don't know about you but i feel like i generally have 40 minutes of decent ish conversation and the last sort of 20 minutes is tomfoolery anyway right that's what's happening right now um how's the nipper good thank you yeah tired and all that sort of stuff but she's good she's good i've been enjoying vicariously through your wife's Instagram account.
1:04:51Not that sounded terribly pervy but no I've just been looking at the kid through her Instagram still. I've been spying on your baby. I'm spying on your baby. How does this season go Jack? How does this season go mate? Do you know what I would say? That Dortmund result honestly I don't know if it's come through on this conversation I'm not trying to like sort of, you know, be a hypocrite or shirk things I've said earlier. It's actually, it's thrown me, it's thrown me to the degree that I, well, Spurs, I just thought we played really well last night. I think we did, yeah. I don't think we just kind of, yeah, I don't think we just fluked a 2-0 win.
1:05:38We managed it. Yeah, we were really, really good and it's thrown me. um look would the problem is would i be surprised if we go and lose to burnley on the weekend no and therein lies the problem um but if we don't foundation potentially for him to grow you need these foundations you need these moments it might be going tits up we all think it might go tits up we probably don't none of us really are confident about going to burnley and winning however this is a potential foundation and you just have to look at that foundation you don't have to believe in it but it's there in front of you i think the only thing for me i think i guess one of the sort of the crucial factors is it feels like the battle lines are being drawn and people don't often step back from that.
1:06:20You know, Frank has, he's, he has, you know, he's had a pop at the fans a few times. People have not really fancied the idea of him in the first place. I think it would take a lot for the crowd to really row back on him. So I think he's, you know, I think he's walking the green mile really. That's, that's, that's the main thing, isn't it? But look, if Spurs can, if we can finish top half of the table then from this point you'd probably say it's an all right season not acceptable but all right and then you've been him in summer right yeah all right if anyone wants to hear jack speak more on tottenham hotspur then go and subscribe to his podcast rule the roost uh you're on youtube as well yeah i don't i mean i stream after after the game on youtube i always intend to do more on there and i probably will at some point but for now yeah i just stream after the game i hate the platform to be honest i hate it it's a tough nut to crack when you try not build an audio it just it's cannibalizing but also um youtube music people often ask why aren't you on youtube music it's because they don't pay their creators they do but they class you so if you upload to YouTube it uses the kind of do you know what it doesn't matter they're just cunts basically alright so that's the reason why we don't use YouTube music they're cunts right Jack legend mate thank you so much and up the spurs always a pleasure come on you Spurs I'll see you on WhatsApp I suppose

We actually enjoyed a Spurs game. Dortmund at home was electric, Solanke being back changed everything, Udogie looked like a proper left-sided option again, and suddenly we remembered what a functional team looks like. We argue about whether one good night buys Thomas Frank time or just proves the squad can play when set up right, and we clock the post-match hugs like proper body language detectives. We get into Tel vs Odobert, the Somerville rumour, Djed Spence doing bits higher up the pitch, and a seriously impressive Byfield debut at 17. There’s also potholes, Danish misery laws, anime celebrations, and the usual The Fighting Cock guff. Up the Spurs.
