I've got a theory about you, Alex. Do you want to hear my theory?

2:02I know what it will be, but go on. Well, it doesn't make any sense because you're now sort of in a happy relationship. But for a long time, he wasn't. He was searching for his soulmate, right? And suddenly, you'd have an interest in being on the podcast. I'll come on this week. I'll come on this week. And I'll be like, where does this come from? Because you haven't spoken to us for about a month. Bollocks, honestly. And then you realise, ah, he's got a date. or there's a woman he likes to go on this popular podcast you want to listen to it that's what i think that's slanderous and only partly true but uh that that might have happened in the in the dating time more so it's just the fact of not uh job wise it's just difficult but now working from home told you i got i got options now no you you were talking before we started recording i just found this really funny is that you you so you've moved into a house with the missus um and there are odd jobs that need doing but you're not allowed to do them well it's it's the situation uh my partner's dad is is absolutely lovely like kind of you know seven you know older type of dad you know the kind of shoes and proper trousers no matter the time of day or occasion like being lovely lovely lovely yeah um but you know he's been looking after his his little girl for a long time you know doing stuff around the house all the rest of it so uh we i wanted to put a tv up on a wall so i'll do that next weekend and she went uh uh okay yeah yeah should we could dad do that and i was like well no there's no need no need for dad to do it you know it's four drill like there's four holes in the wall and you know the tv's like 11 in it like it weighs nothing like i i could probably use some no more nails but let's let's do it properly uh and she was like can we let dad do that so it's because because he needs to he wants to like kind of feel useful and all the rest of it which i completely i appreciate i hope i hope my daughter is the same for me but now i've got to stand there like holding his cup of tea whilst he puts up this telly on the wall looking at me like you can't do this but because we're not allowed to tell him can't tell him so i've got to sit there holding this little this little mug saying like best dad on it like you can't take care of my daughter yeah and he'll be like this is called a wall plug like this goes this bit goes in here make sure you don't drill the hole too big i was going to go in all right so i had to see so if there's a whole lot of adjustment getting getting adjusting back to living with someone again is is it's tricky you know for obvious reasons but uh yeah so at least you're not drinking alone at 10 a.m on a sunday morning anymore not drinking not drinking these days oh yeah i'm good boy uh it's more than to like masturbate in the shower and stuff it's like like some type of gibbon but it's uh you know that's that's i'm waiting ricky's discussing that between ourselves about how he manages to do it in the family household

5:00Sean Kray:sean how you doing mate how's it going yeah good good yeah i took i took my little one to the game yesterday so oh good did you have a good time it made it better to be honest like because there was one stage when they went 2-1 up and he just goes because he's only nine he says I don't even care about the score to be honest I'm just having a good day oh that's what we're all at that's what we're all trying to do at the moment isn't it not let the football get in the way what a lovely thing for him to say to you though but then when Romero scored we went ballistic oh yeah yeah it was good there was one moment yesterday the loudest song of the day was Thomas Frank your football is shit and um it was the whole end in full unison and and my boy just turns around to me and goes daddy what does shit mean you're a better parent than me if you've got to nine they don't know what shit means yeah yeah one of those assholes yeah well no i mean so it should be um you weirdly you two live literally on each side of the doorstep do you know that do we i found that out recently i live in shrewsbury now yeah oh yeah literally 10 minutes 15 minutes down the road there you go so if this goes well three beers later maybe he's not drinking um yeah yeah that was so on telly you didn't i didn't hear that i didn't hear the it was as for uh it was as vociferous as that is that right anyway um he but they mentioned it on the radio the backwards and sideways every there we go and that sort of stuff and like it someone asked me he's got like he's a he's a villa fan and he texted me earlier and he went he's how is he still there and i'm like i not only do i not i i don't know why he's not he hasn't been fired yet but i'm almost certain like if you had to give if i had to put a wager on something whether him being sacked in the next month or last until the end of the season i would i think he's going to last the end of the season.

7:03I think they have decided, regardless of what happens, that he's our manager to the end of the season. Anything in that, Alex? I mean, yeah, you'd imagine that that would be the default situation because if you don't have to make a change and if they feel there's extenuating circumstances, which they may feel like the injuries and all the rest of it is, and there's no danger of you're going to be stuck in that middle bit, then yeah, they might be able to hold it. But as ever with these things it all comes down to noise it won't necessarily even come down to necessarily the results but you can't have home game up you know six seven weeks of that type of stuff in the press and you know sideways sideways and backwards everywhere we go you know like all of this type of stuff it doesn't the noise will at some point if it keeps going the way it is become too much what my worry is is that like the first 25 minutes of that Dortmund game I was like is this as Pochettino just kind of snuck into the dugout and and doing stuff behind the scenes because it was great yeah and we were talking eight times in the first half yeah my what my worry is is that there be enough kind of there's like a little bit just to not not to make them pull the trigger like it's like you when you're winding me up about something like you you will push and push to get a reaction from me and then i'll react and then you'll go so anyway man how you know how's everything what are you doing this weekend?

8:28And then I'm like, oh, okay. And then I'm back to normal. It's really frustrating when you don't vote. And I'm disarmed. I'll put this for an hour, put an hour into this and you've not exploded yet. Yeah, exactly. And that's just, so that's what I worry about. You know, look, I was, I don't think I've been on since the kind of first part of the season, but I was looking forward to Thomas Frank. Ben had convinced me, I'll never forgive him, but I was relatively convinced about Thomas Frank, but some grownups were in the room. First couple of games, it looked like we had a midfield again. And, you know, But when the facts change, so does your mind have to.

8:59Yeah. And it is appalling. It wasn't yesterday, though. I want to defend it to some degree. It's too little too late to some instances. You don't win. We haven't beat Burnley. You are shit. They have conceded 43 goals. But were there any cause for you, Sean, in terms of there was some good play in that first half and we were hitting the target?

9:25Sean Kray:I thought we were going to win. Yeah, it was, I mean, half an hour in, I was sort of like, yeah, we're going to score at some stage. And then we went one nil up. It took me by, it was almost like their goal came from about a minute or so before Romero didn't trap the ball when it went out for a throw. And it was like, I felt like the ball, Vicario. So it was like, there's so little confidence in Vicario as well that there was that composed, both of those things combined were led to the goal for sure. but it was just, Vicario's left foot is pointless. Other than standing on it, it's the only good it does it.

10:02Sean Kray:Yeah, well, that was it. But it was almost like that was kind of out of the blue. I was quite confident. I wasn't happy with the football, but I was quite confident that we were going to deal with Burnley. And then when that happened, you felt everyone feel a bit nervous and then a minute or so later that ball got crossed. I've watched it back this morning. I thought in the ground it was way closer to Ficario than it was. I thought I was sort of screaming in the ground, oh, you know, he should have come and dealt with it. The angle of the ball was, yeah, it was more. It was a page. It was more of the fenders, probably.

10:36Sean Kray:Yeah, that's it. But, yeah. But, yeah, it was the sideways and backwards chance and all that, that was going on a lot yesterday. I used to think that it didn't really make a difference until we started making the massive noises about Levy, which I thought was banging your head against a brick wall. Next thing he's gone. And you kind of think, oh, actually, maybe making all this noise does get the job done. And Frank might be gone soon, but I don't think they're planning on attacking him. I think they've employed him and they believe in what he's doing. I don't think that he started setting us up this season and it shocked everyone at the club of like, oh, hang on, why has he gone so ultra negative?

11:24Sean Kray:He must have sold it to them when he was brought in. And they believed in it. But this is, I made this point yesterday, right? And I genuinely believe it. You can't measure it, but I genuinely believe it. But the way that football has moved, and I'll use the term nerds, but you know, use whatever term you like, but it's far more, you know, technical thinking, whatever. Nerds will do. Yeah, when you replace football people, for good or for bad, of where that comes from, with nerds in the boardroom and in the dugout, all they've got to do is show each other a presentation. Fucking love it. It lags us in tears.

12:02Yeah, but what I'm saying is that they are looking for confirmation that that has. And I know Carragher said this on the overlap and has said it a few times and people will think it's a bit Luddite, but it probably is true. You look at the top six managers of the top six, the traditional big top six in the last few years, and you'll go Guardiola, Wenger, Ferguson, all at Klopp, these types of characters. Conte. Look who those top six are. Liam Rossini, Thomas Frank, Mikel Arteta, Pep's still there, obviously. Michael Carrick and Arna Slott, who's probably going to be gone as well. like there is a marked difference now one in terms of the characters of these people fine but also in terms of the the aura the the effect that these managers can have on players and this and i know john said about it as well like having javi and busquets come into that dressing everyone would be like well we haven't done nothing experience blah blah blah but that still counts for something having that walking people walking into that room and having that feeling is a big thing and i just looking at someone like Thomas Frank and having any type of not respect that's not the right word but not not being motivated by that now you know everyone knows my feelings on Ange Postacoglu but the one thing I would have always give him is all right yeah he would have had that thing and you know his main strength is that he is able to somehow put this pixie dust onto people where it doesn't matter about results and that happens with players as well but we need this club needs someone like that because we're not strong enough to drive that ourselves through a mentality and through a culture so it needs a manager that can do it and he just can't do it he hasn't been able to scale up those sort of managers of um they kind of disappeared in that world where we've got into a world where kind of like abrasive strong people are kind of like dismissed as luddites or things of the past and you can't you know you get accused of bullying or there's it's too much or you've got I think about the mental health of the players.

13:59Emery's still kind of one, I think. I think he's probably the closest there is, maybe. Yeah, maybe. I mean, Guardiola, but yeah, it's sort of like, they've all sort of withered away to some degree, haven't they? I just have to make an apology because someone messaged me after the result. Basically, just on the subject of bullying, I said that Mark, they said I was accused of bullying, Mark, on the last episode of the podcast because we said that we agreed as a group that he had the least to live for so if we he has to something drastic has to be done then he has to do it and he said i've got two kids and so we still agreed that he had the least to live for you agreed as well didn't alexie uh i don't think i was involved in that particular conversation but um at least he's just if someone's got to do something drastic and sacrifice their their freedom and go to prison for a long time we agreed that mark despite having two children has the least to live for yeah i think i decided it's because of where he lives so yeah it's fine so i do want to apologize to mark for for that and uh i you know it was a joke and then you know a couple people emailed me saying you're bullying him you know apologize won't happen again mark oh seven at gmail.com was it yeah no and then we did say on he goes i can't do the podcast this morning because i'm going to take the boy to football and i'm said he wouldn't even realize you're there it's terrible sorry mark sorry sorry um but you you know i needed him for the pod but anyway uh yes so is there is there do you agree with me then that he's going to get the end of

15:39Sean Kray:the season sean i think that their intention is to give him to the end of the season i think that things could happen you know if if we do as a lot piece lots of people predicting lose all of our games in february it's gonna get hot and we'll be in trouble yeah it will be and and it might get to that stage where they're gonna be like look when we employed him we said we said you know we're gonna give him time no matter what but they would always be the small like the small print that would be like, unless we're going to go down, that will activate that small print. And they'll be like, look, we need to...

16:19Sean Kray:You're relying on that little bounce. And lots of people are talking about Pochettino in the summer. And I'd be happy with that as well. But we've got work to do between now and the summer. Because as I say, we lose those four games in February. What, we're 10 points? Eight. We're eight points clear of West Ham. So, yeah, I mean, we've got 15 games left. We probably need... I can't believe we're having this conversation. Again! Having this conversation again. Sorry, Sean. We probably need... Yeah, yesterday when we went 1-0 up, everyone ironically sang, We Are Staying Up. Yeah, I heard that. That was quality.

16:59Sean Kray:I'm on there and I'm thinking like, I don't know if we should be ironically singing that. It's gone to the stage now where it's very, very rich to be singing it with the tone that we did. Who do you think we are? We are banging trouble. I don't think we'll go. I think we'll, you know, but we are banging trouble. We need, we've got 15 games left. We probably need, what, 11 points or something like that. I don't know what our rate is of what we've, up until this point. One point. It would be just over one point a game. One point one. One point one. So if we do that for the last 15 games. It'd be safe.

17:37Sean Kray:We would be safe, but it'd be bloody close. Well, I don't. Like I said, I love a bit of hyperbole, especially an hour after a game. But the relegation thing, I think, is way a bit blown. How many times have we looked at a game? And it goes both ways. You must have thought about it, at least. It's crossed your mind at 4am in the morning. What if? No. Because we know what football's like. You look at those games and it goes five. You look at those next five games, four or five games, you think fuck you know there's not a point coming from from anywhere and there always does like it football doesn't work like that because it works the other way around as well when we've been sat like third or second we go oh we'll win all these next four games and we and you just don't like that doesn't happen and i just think um you know it's too there's too much chaos theory in football for you to look at that and go yeah we lose those five games in in in every right we probably should but that just won't happen.

18:33And 11 point, we'll get another 11, 12, 15 points before the end of the season. That just will happen. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I don't see it.

18:43Sean Kray:I think we will as well. I've not had any thought of, oh, we will go, but I do feel that it's going to require tracking a manager to get a bit of a shot in the arm because what happens is that when you just keep losing and if we do go into these hard games and it does just roll off lose lose lose lose you see you've seen it with so many teams before where they do just lose and lose and lose and it's very very hard to to stop that rot and yeah i do think that there'll be a little shot in the arm whatever it is that they choose to do and i think when it gets to that last game of the season we will be probably nine points clear of it if I was to guess like I think something will have happened along the along the road and we will be comfortable enough 17th and in a Champions League final well but yeah and it's um but yeah it's very hairy at the moment and something needs to something does need to happen uh it's the thing is like Frank was like saying you got to remember we finished 17th last season.

19:54Like, we're doing a lot of work. We could finish 17th this season. There's no, that, we should not be mistaken in that in any way. I don't, yeah, agreed with you, Alex. Despite, you know, you think, well, stranger things have happened in football, but the likelihood of us going down is slim. Is there not 0.1 % of you that thinks, hmm, I wonder what it'd be like just kind of smashing shit up in a championship every week. Because we wouldn't. We wouldn't smash it out in a championship. We'd go down and there'd be a struggle and we'll probably end up seventh. That's what would likely happen. Yeah.

20:31Interesting though, wasn't it?

20:32Sean Kray:I did weirdly think exactly that thought yesterday. Like, it was the thought that came into my head of like, you know, if you could stop Arsenal winning the title, but you have to go down. And I was there thinking, you can't take that. You'd have to win the title. But then I was thinking, I don't know. Yeah, we can't win the league and us go down in the same season. And also, it's Flav's livelihood. So, I appreciate it. It's a different ballgame. In that respect, I think it would be all right. I don't think less people would listen to the podcast. I think you get less sort of, you know, there might be less people interested in finding it.

21:08But I think I'd probably be all right not having to get a real job, maybe. But that's not the point here. It's the misery of the millions of Spurs fans around the world. Yeah, of course. I know. It was just kind of a morbid curiosity. It's like a morbid curiosity, like when you're driving on the motorway and you think, I could just do this really quickly and that's it. It's all over. It crosses my mind. I would never do it. We've all had that, though, haven't we? Yeah. What if I just do this? What happens? Just obliterated. There were some good performances, though, yesterday, despite everything.

21:42I thought Basuma was decent in midfield. I think the fact that in these two games he's played for us, second half against West Ham and yesterday, they generally just argue he's probably our best player maybe Odebeer um van der Ven and Romero scoring goals I'm a little bit concerned and and concerned I'm like if you don't want it then fuck off but van der Ven's body language is pretty horrible at the moment not he's not interested I think he's really frustrated and I would say the same with Romero as well they know that they're our best players by country mile they've scored again 13 goals between them two very good finishes

22:19Sean Kray:as well they weren't like just oh he's nodded it in that was a great header and van der van like just to control that into the corner when the keeper's pulling out save after save it was two brilliant finishes i i i i i wouldn't be surprised if in the back of their minds they're thinking how do i get out of here oh of course i mean they're champions league players playing for a club that's nowhere near that level at the minute and the champions league is you know the longer that goes on is Cesar so this is what I mean again you bring someone if you bring in as someone like let's say Frank goes and you bring in someone like uh an Areola or a Glasner or what like that doesn't move the needle for players like this who does then well this is the and this is the thing and like I said I mean you know a Xavi or you know an Alonso which would never happen but that is the the difficult predicament that this club is in now because of where we want to be or where where we are positioned to be it's it's not enough anymore because we haven't produced to not have one of those managers and we have to rely on yeah you know van de ven was a signing that you know none of us had really heard of or whatever so they come along again it's not you know nothing's bigger than the club we will make these players again but you know you want to be able to get a huge amount from them before they go on to these massive steps and and because of the choices that we've made that's just not happening and um you know so yeah of course they will be they'll be having those things but but in terms of yesterday you know winning football matches changes changes a lot of stuff so you know if you if we end up getting to a quarterfinal or a semi-final or a champions league or you know suddenly something does turn or a new manager bounce comes in like you know you never know with these things Romero signed a new contract in the depths of of what we thought was was him definitely gone so um but I thought yeah they were they were both great yesterday i mean there is a kind of weird cult i kind of find online that just seems to think that everything that ever happens wrong with this club is somehow down to christian romero we all have that dream trip we've been wishing we could go on but too often life or usually price gets in the way that's why priceline is here to help you turn your dream trip into reality with up to 60 off hotels and up to 50 off flights you can book everything you need for your next adventure.

But his net positive is unbelievable. He's fantastic. I don't understand Wilson Odebet at all, but I am perfectly happy to say that he had some decent moments yesterday.

25:55I get more frustrated with what he doesn't do. I've never seen a player with his much talent hide as much as he does. but when he doesn't and he's actually on the ball and actually commits to stuff with some gusto he's a good player really frustrated with Xavi yesterday really really frustrated with him yeah he had a poor game a playmaker that can't pass a 10 yard pass it's like when you're trying to train like a kid he obviously can you're like do it properly pass with the side of your foot don't just tap it but that is what's frustrating it's not just him it's across the board there's this kind of the intensity of the passing seems off our inability to play the correct pass there was this one moment and it was actually it was van de ven who was going to pass out to to spence and it should have been in front of him and it was to suspense that's a pause and turn to receive the ball and it's like that sort of small margins those are errors and my dad again like i bless him he will not get off the frank train like the current the current uh approval rating for Thomas Frank is back down to 2.8%.

27:01It jumped up after the Dortmund game to 3.1%, back down to 2.8 now. And my dad, I was like, I knew what he was going to say, but I couldn't stop myself from saying it. He's got to go, right? I've said that, Dad. He's got to go. And he's going, it ain't him. It's the players. The players, and part of it is right. The players are letting him down, or they're just not good enough, and they're nowhere near the level we you think they're at i don't know what both things are awful with true right i think there's a bit of both in there because i i like i said the the wilson oda bear thing i think it can have his moments and does and does well and stuff but i just think the bar is so unbelievably low um that we celebrate this stuff and we do we have a tendency as a fan base to be a bit like that with our players anyway but um but you're right he had a good game yesterday i would say uh but like you say the expectation is low so yeah yeah i'm not saying he didn't have a good shot when he carried the ball and called it.

27:56Yeah, but then there was also four or five, again, runs where everything is just a little pass backwards and then he kind of slips. And he might be doing that under instruction. What was really frustrating is that he would move in, he would be in these number 10 positions with plenty of space around him. I was thinking, well, there's a ball into him. There, he'll tap it, it turned, a bit of creativity, or even if he passes it out wide, whatever, he's in that hole. But then as soon as he was in that hole, as soon as the ball was then ready to go to him, you'd see him just kind of a little backtrack out, back out to a wide position now that might be instruction but with players with that much talent there's a mercurialness about about them and that's what i'd expect to see and that's where i get and it's not just him you know javi i feel is is the same as well but um in terms of the player side of things that there must be what you said the other week probably in terms of how much how little through balls we play and and the fact that you know both goals came from crosses again yes like you know it has to be instruction like so yeah i've seen an improvement in our build-up playing in the last month i've got to say that right there have been spells in games where we've been dominant and creating opportunity and there's definitely been attacking shift in what we do yesterday was a good example of it we had no issue creating chances yesterday they just you know her keeper had a bit of a worldie despite us scoring two um so i don't think yesterday is a good barometer if you're using it to further the campaign against frank especially about his inability to create chances because we were attacking yesterday and we did um but it it's you cannot not talk about him and not consider what's happened before in the first part of this season so yeah all those things are true um and Burnley are muck as well um what what did you make of the three at the back Sean was you happy the way we set up do you want to see more of that

29:40Sean Kray:going forward um yeah I mean I I do think I do prefer it with the uh with the three at the back Yeah, I'd like to do. I mean, I quite like Danso, actually. I think he's quite wooden in terms of receiving the ball and turning. But I actually think his passing is quite assured. He just looks a bit awkward when he runs and plays, but he's probably a better footballer. He's not a ball-playing centre-half because of the sheer fact he will get caught on the ball. But I do think that he passes it out okay. so I'm quite happy quite happy with him playing and then the fullbacks sort of being forward I thought we were better with Udogi yeah he's he's a player that's like heavily missed when he doesn't play but oh god I don't know we do have a lot we have a lot missing like Odebeer like you could see yesterday the hiding especially the last sort of 10 minutes when we were trying to push a couple of times Tell's got the ball and Odabez just stood five yards behind him and it's like It must be in the structure mustn't it?

30:53Like it has to be so maybe we're being way too harsh too harsh on him because he did have a good game yesterday I don't want to make that clear he played well yesterday in the bits that he did because the things that he contributed were key moments and pivotal to the result for what it was that we got there's no getting away from that but I just feel like that and the Dortmund game even in the Dortmund game I'm like come on now just like go I want him to do everything he's doing but with 10, 15, 20 % more oomph to it Yeah

31:24Sean Kray:but you could just imagine that Frank's just like well you do not want to lose the ball because if you lose the ball and we've committed forward we're going to be in big troubles and then that worries him and then he's like well I'll only take him on if I feel safe enough to do it rather than throwing caution to the wind I do think it probably does come back to him manager to a degree. It all has to. But yeah, but I mean, Older Bear is, he's one of those players that kind of, you know, if we had a good team and he was coming on last half an hour of games, I reckon everyone would have a completely different attitude towards him.

32:00Sean Kray:Like, you know, is he the young lad? Just have it, give it a go. But when we're in this situation where he has to start and you're pinning your hopes on him, he's falling short of it. I think that's spot on. That isn't his fault. No, no, and, And yeah, like you say, with the amount of injuries, it's just we're having to rely on him. And perhaps at this stage of his development, whether you think he should be ahead of that at 21 or not is another conversation. But he is performing Zama, Curiel, at the moment, to Alex's point. I tell you, I think he does follow instruction well. And I think why Tell perhaps starts less games.

32:36And I don't know this, right? I'm just chucking this out there. But Tell is much more like, I'm going to make something happen. Because he picked up the ball in the 10 role to pass out to... Who crossed for the goal? Was it Spence crossed for Romero's header? Odabez Cross.

32:56So he's much more gung-ho. He has that oomph that you mentioned now. And I think that perhaps... And the fact that Spence started two games in Tel's position now tells you something. but I think Tell is much more like I'm going to make something happen and that's why he's looked impressive that's why when we said at times against West Ham a lot of players seem to be playing with fear and with a rigidity but Tell and Basuma and Romero didn't and every time Tell goes on Tell gets him all he goes I want to make something happen and in the right environment that's really useful but some managers don't like it like Guardiola notoriously doesn't like it so I don't know I think that's a fair I think that's a pretty logical way of kind of of kind of looking at it because we don't know for sure obviously but yeah it's certainly when you add up all the pieces together and what the most likely reason would be that that does that strikes me as what that would be yeah I think that's a fair there's a comment here from on Reddit it says I think on another day we could have had five goals multiple incredible saves from the Kraft hit the post once or did we hit the post?

34:10Yeah, sorry, it was right at the end. We at the bar, Xavi at the bar, didn't we? Yeah, Xavi at the bar, that was it. Everyone is blaming Frank, and there is obviously blame to go his way, but the players should take the blame too. So many bad passes again. The first goal conceded is because of a simple mistake from Vicario Romero, and then a guy wanders in between four defenders. Everyone is mad and wants shit to change, and the easiest thing to change is the manager, but it's not entirely his fault. I think that's based on forms yesterday. I think that's fair, but that's football for time immemorial.

34:44I felt I was very big on that train when it came to Pochettino. I thought he was being ridiculously under, just undermined and just let down. But that's just the way it is. We know, I can reel off a list of players right now, but I can't remember not disliking a Spurs team as much as I dislike this one for quite some time. There are players in there.

35:08Sean Kray:AVB's head was very I detested that the post-bail AVB era of like Kapu yeah those types of guys don't you take Kirikes' name out your fucking mouth you know I love him but like Vicario drives me fucking nuts I cannot stand him I'm not as big on the whole I'm not as big on the whole Porro kind of hate train that seems to be happening at the minute I don't care about players giving it to fans because it's just not something that bothers me. So I made a point about this, right? I don't mind him giving it to fans if he isn't absolutely fucking getting rinsed by the winger after the game. Like, if you're playing impeccably and you're the best player on the pitch, say, look, we're trying, we're doing this.

36:01You're letting Anthony, the Burnley left winger, I think it was him playing on the left, just in the first five, ten minutes just absolutely tore him a new one and you're like then you're coming out and going oh no the fans need to get fucking defend do something do the basic stuff right yeah but we're also guilty of he's probably been our most consistent performer think of the amount of football he's fought over the last 18 months never injured yeah true statistics as well going forward like if you compared him like they're insane and his delivery in the box is insane I think I don't think anyone can disagree he needs the rest and he needs some time out yeah but there are a lot of knobs yeah car is a knob they all hate don't get let's have it twisted they all fucking hate us don't do not pretend i'd probably hate us as well i probably if i was playing on that 11 i'd probably hate us as well you know how the grief they get but um yeah like the players that need to get changed but the uh to sean's point the the fundamental issue and under the point sorry the comment from reddit is that is that the manager has to change because it's just it's the one thing that you can do like what else have we got we got rid of a chairman that we've for 25 years like we've got the players and stuff we've managed to we we have done a fairly decent job at selling a bit a bit better at selling and hopefully that will have continue to happen we just we're suffering from poor recruitment again for the last however long it's been and also an injury another injury crisis yeah you can't you cannot you cannot make light or ignore how impactful and not having medicine yeah i think but i do think there are some things to look forward there are some things in there there are two massively creative players that are not with us not playing at the minute in terms of madison and kuluseski solanke needs games been out for a long time needs games and again at times yesterday there was times where he was able to hold on to the ball you know that that i think that will come we've seen what slanky can offer you've got conor gallagher who's way off the pace but to be fair it's fair enough he's been playing 30 minutes 40 minutes 45 minutes here in la liga for the last kind of season that's going to take time to get back up to this Premier League pace and we've got two you know two world-class defenders whether they want to go in the summer or not but they are two world-class defenders and you've got um you know really with games Xavi and Odebes should should get get better and only get better and keep getting more used to the league so that and there's other injuries still to come back from so there is stuff that is in there but this is why I think that that and we all think really that the change should come now to capitalize on those returns and on that momentum because he's not someone he doesn't you might disagree doesn't strike me as someone that there would be kind of fears over a player mutiny if he left no it's just it's just not that type is he so do it now while you and then capitalize on the things that are going to be happening over the next eight weeks 15 weeks yes it's weird that we're all united like there's no you can't there's like no back and forth about you well what can say everything everything everyone's saying seems correct the only if i'm if i if i can bat for frank in any way it's that in the last month i have seen improvements not in necessarily in results for sure but i've seen improvements in some parts of the play and you can forgive him for the injury crisis.

39:19However, if there was a button to sack him right now, I would attack him. And it's getting uncomfortable. Like, again, those chants... Did you feel a bit uncomfortable, Sean, in the stadium when obviously it's like you're watching your team play and there's like, I don't know, 2 ,000 Spurs fans all singing about... There's this sort of camaraderie, gallows humour between Burnley fans and Tottenham fans. They're going, how shit must you be? we're winning at home and then Spurs came back with, you're nothing special, we lose every week, something like that. And then everyone's clapping each other because we're all so shit.

39:52What a mental situation.

39:53Sean Kray:It's a difficult one to explain to my son, who's like, he's at that tentative age. Like, you know, he's nine years old. He's just getting into it, if we're honest. Yeah. And it's like, why are they singing against that? You know, it's weird because like, he's kind of starry-eyed. oh look it's Solanke like of course yeah and and it's kind of yeah I remember going to a game when Sonny was there and we were at home and he adored Sonny as we all did um but we're at the game this is at a home game and people were just screaming at Son it was when they'd really gone toxic towards him a lot of people had and he kind of looks at me like why does everyone hate Sonny yeah and it's us like it's weird because we were all that kid once and then are we are we are you saying is your kid worked out that perhaps we're part of the problem we're willing to turn on our ledger this is it yeah it's so it is it is a strange one um where we are and like in terms of like rectifying it as well if you're if you're putting yourself in the boots of the the you know the uh the board and everything they're probably looking at why did levy get sacked what what would what did he do badly in his last say 10 15 years or whatever and one of the biggest criticisms is swinging that pendulum and just being like oh okay well we're going to go for this type of manager now that's wrong let's completely swing the other way and let's swing back and i know it's a horrible one because we're on a swing at the moment that none of us like and we all want it to swing again but they're kind of like somewhere along the line they will have had to have said look what we need to do is choose something and back it for a long time let's back it financially let's start spending the right amount of money let's recruit the right types of people and whatever we believe in we have to back that for a long time we all hate that because but that's the situation that they're in because they're like, do we make the same mistakes that Levy did?

42:00Sean Kray:Because do we swing the other way? And then it doesn't work. And then you've got to swing back. And then it's just catastrophic. I was listening to Ali McCoy, who I think can be extremely great because of just how energised he is all the time. And it's not the basic thing that he said, but you just can't keep sacking managers unless you're Abramovich. because you know.

Every manager is going to be back to the hilt, going to spend every penny possible to back the manager until it fails, and then we'll get the next one in. And then you pay them an extortionate amount of money, and of course they're going to come. Whereas Spurs are not in that situation.

44:08No one really is in that situation anymore. So it's like, if you, and again, caveat, I want Frank sacked. I pretty much felt like I've wanted him sacked since the Arsenal game, to be honest, that was scandalous. but if is there a world if you just stick him in there long enough and keep backing him that eventually you'll get this right and that the squad is the problem the ethos around the club has been a problem the planning and strategy at the football club for so long has been a problem we've had this kind of dictatorial uh Daniel Levy kind of pulling strings in every facet of the football club for so long that we can't we never really kind of forgot well we kind of forgot what what we were actual football club in the beginning and it was almost so much more about revenue building and stuff so that is going to take time to turn around is is there a world where if we just wait this out it gets better or are you convinced Alex that it's just there's no chance and it's and there's no chance he will ever make this right or do you not have the patience for it which is also fair because I'm not sure I do.

45:15Yeah, I mean, that, but also, I think that is, I think the world that we are in now and the world that the Premier League is in now, I think you're right, no one is in that position where you can just keep sacking managers, throw endless amounts of money at it and then go again. So, but what should be happening and what I'd hope is happening is that you build the model. Now, like you say, this dictatorial element is kind of gone. You build the model of this is what the club's core values are, you know good football and competing on all fronts and and going for it and you know that's that that is basically tottenham right you know to dare and dare to dare is to do right so that needs to be the model and that needs to be the style of players that are bought in and and a recruitment strategy around that because we've just we talked earlier about the fact that the types of different types of managers are now head coaches and not managers is basically what's happened over the last 10-15 years so they the coach bit really should be something that is the most interchangeable part of you because you look at what's happened at Brentford and they seem to have just not missed a beat you look at what happens at places like Brighton and we're told constantly that this is the model that they want to try and follow now so yeah stick with a model stick with an ethos absolutely and if that is some if that it comes with some pain for a little bit of time whilst you're in that transition in terms of players and squad all right fine if but if i was confident in that that's what they would do and i'd be okay with it and then if they can then change and having the head coach the wrong head coach and the wrong the wrong tip of the spear so to speak that's all right because the tip can be changed to something sharper that's the easiest bit um

46:52Sean Kray:like but don't do it with frank let's not back frank you know what i think it's similar to is like you know when you've had like a you've really pigged out all weekend and like you you know you're not fitting your jeans anymore and it's a sunday night and you're like right i need to start a diet but you're kind of like it's sunday night i'll have one more chinese and i'll start tomorrow yeah they've got the opportunity to pin frank on daniel levy that was the last one That was the last mistake. Let's start fresh tomorrow morning. That's a great point is they do have an opportunity to pin it on.

47:32He's the full guy. He's gone. There's nothing he can say. And I think we'd all be happy with that. Do you know what I mean, though, in terms of the thing? Just quickly, Alex. I need to get this done quickly. Just to remind everyone that there's a NordVPN-backed podcast. This is the best discount off your NordVPN plan. Go to nordvpn.com forward slash the fighting cock. Our link will give you four extra months free on a two-year plan. And there's no risk if you find no value in using Nord services, you get a 30-day money-back guarantee. So there's no risk at all. And as Alex has moved into a household now full of children, and there will be many people listening to this, the safest thing you can do is have a parental lock on the internet so they don't see all the bad stuff.

48:21but Alex is a man who likes the bad stuff you don't have the lock on nah let him let him see it Ricky's like this as well he's just like let him see everything they want what are you on about there's some horrible stuff on there even Instagram Reels there's some terrible things on there yeah but they haven't got any of that stuff oh but do they know how to use an internet browser eh probably okay so the responsible parents out there Sean for example will have a parental lock on

48:48Sean Kray:I've got I've got a responsible wife. Also, there's a huge amount of Lego and stuff that goes on in this house. I don't think they're really interested in any of the other stuff. But this is the problem, Sean, right? We've all got responsible wives, right? They're all, all these, when I first moved into my wife's house, and she had two young kids at the time, I got there and I was like, right, I need a wank. So not immediately, it's been a couple of days. And I was like, all right. and then I've booted up the phone and I'm like, I can't get there. I can't get there. I can't bet. I can't do anything because these fucking parental locks are on.

49:24And what do I say to her? Can you make porn come on my phone, treat love? Of course I'm not saying that. It's early doors in a relationship. If I'd have known about NordVPN, all you have to do is switch it on on your phone or the parental locks disappear. What a wonderful thing. There's many, many other things you can do with NordVPN. And at some stage, everybody on earth will have a VPN on their phone, on their PlayStation, on their laptop. so support the fighting court nordvpn.co nordvpn.co.uk i've been only doing this two years nordvpn.com forward slash the fighting court link is in the description below um alex sorry what was you gonna say do you remember i can't remember now forget it okay next all right we've got some uh we've got some questions here um matthew says is this the worst spurs team in your living memory how about the worst manager i was thinking about this um i my darkest day as a spurs fan we're all similar ages i think my darkest day would have been 2000 uh 2000 maybe 2000 2001 2001 2002 gary dockerty auxiliary striker and center back i like you know when there is an ironic name for a player how bad he is like the ginger pele like that was the darkest day that that bastard leaving tottenham and going to them um and we just it was just awful midfield of i think it was rednap maybe poyer that era it was such an old team like yeah he had he had they They were calling it Dad's Army, weren't they?

51:02It was like Poirier and all that. Poirier was 35. I was only about 15, 16 at that sort of time. So maybe I was young and old enough and into football enough to know this is shite, but too young maybe to really know any better. Yeah, you're still blind for optimism. Yeah, the worst bits for me, I think, were probably the Sherwood bit was just I didn't know what to do. I didn't know how to interact with my football club when he was there. What, win ratio? 71 %? I know. In the league? I remember that being a pretty bad low point. But yeah, last season, before obviously the club, but last season was up there for me.

51:45Because I'm very much a relationship type thing in terms of football. It's about the intangibles for me. And when you hate someone as much as I hated him, I struggle to get past their clubs. And that's a me problem.

51:57Sean Kray:them but yeah to be honest Alex um me and my brother say the same thing that as good as the Europa League win was a touch of it was tarnished by by by the dislike like it was it was brilliant but did you dislike Ang um by the end I did yeah yeah by the end I just I'm I'm one of those ones who like what i just don't think your manager should be attacking the fans in the way that he was like the the cupping of the year at stanford bridge it's almost like when he did that and then like it got egg on his face as well it made it even worse because it's like you tried it and it still blew up in your face like he got to a he got to a stage where he was so stubborn and so dogmatic with the with his whole approach and he was going at the fans i just got to the stage where i i didn't think that he like he he spoke to a lot of the uh the female um reporters and that i felt like he was quite at different times he was he was a bit of a knob like i felt like i felt like the the mask slipped on him like he came in and he was this nice guy and he was i just felt like by the end he was he was obviously irritated and he was under pressure and you can forgive it to a degree but i was sick of him by the end there's a lot of comparison going on at the minute obviously between frank and angina we gave up this for this and the rest of which is just the nature of the beast right and and it does it does make you know if you think about things properly and you have to not just be blinded by your own kind of agenda on it there are things in there but i think a mix between the two actually would be my perfect manager and i think what the reason why i was so so anti and towards the end was because in theory he should be everything i've ever talked about on this podcast about what I want from someone and how I want someone to talk about Tottenham and he did that but without any of the the the reaction to the things around that like in terms of in terms of how you react to questions about your football and all the rest of it like the my perfect manager would genuinely probably be a mix between the two begrudgingly um but that I think Pochettino was the perfect manager in terms of his whole character.

54:15Sean Kray:But yeah, Ange, yeah, it's true. There's definitely parts of Ange that I liked and I really did gravitate towards him in that first season, even when we were losing all the time. And you were kind of like, oh, you know, it's the injuries and whatever. But by the end, there was something about him that bugged me. And it wasn't just the fact that we were losing every week. It was something about his character that did bug me. What I hold on to was that even though there were moments when he was attacking the fans, the Chelsea thing was pretty bad. It wasn't the first time either. It was that when we had a manager that was batting for us in the press as well, which I quite liked.

55:00He wanted to change the perception of the club. and it was an us versus them which i really enjoyed i don't get me wrong there were stages last not dissimilar to this season really where my ritual now that i can't get to games as much as i used to is to drive to me old man's and we open the door he'll look at me i'll look at him and like right we've got to do this for 90 minutes and that's what's gonna happen and And we went into every game against, under Ange, and even when we would be two up, he'd feel like there's no guarantee that we're winning this game. And that is a horrible feeling. Whereas now, you're watching us play, and you're like, there's no guarantee we're going to score a goal.

55:44That's what it kind of feels like. So it's kind of a similar sort of thing. And I'll admit there's no guarantee of personality now, which I probably underestimated slightly. so you're saying and the answer to the geezer's question and there is no there isn't a question in the world where he is the fucking answer to it the answer no the question about what's the worst Spurs

56:07Sean Kray:Christian Gross was the worst that I thought yeah I was just too young for that you know how old you I'm 38 but I because the AVB I appreciate you're not 38 you're like 40 it's 43 I think 38 I'm 39 but I remember being like the Christian gross times. But this is what I mean, I remember it being bad, but maybe not enough experience to equate it to it. The AVB stuff, a lot of people said that it was pretty shit at that time, but we were, as a podcast, we have to say, we were pretty, we were well, but we had decided that he was the one. I think all of us had a long time to turn around on AVB. We got slagged off, the podcast during that period got slagged off bad, right?

56:54Every time we published it, oh here they are these fuck some geezer could score us the clear cell kids the uh another geezer used to say like happy clapping shoe waving mongs i think we were called as well and um the and it was because we backed everybody and i'm like that now like with the andy robertson sign in i'm interested to see what you think of this um boys but i'm like because he's new i think he's good i know that's stupid right but he's a 44 year old man i get excited about new players even when they're old and partly broken. What do you make of that signing if it does happen? Because you played for Liverpool last night.

57:30Go on, Sean.

57:32Sean Kray:Well, I mean, I'm happy enough. It's quite similar to the Gallagher situation where I honestly don't think that either of them moved the needle for us. I don't think they're going to make a big change. Do you know what I'm so sick of when I go and watch Tottenham is watching these players who can't make 10-yard passes. And I know that's the kind of thing that you do get the old boys shouting at in a game. Everyone's saying that, like Sean. But it's like, I just feel like we've got players that aren't proper footballers. Even to the degree of like Jed Spence, right? It's like he works his arse off.

58:09Sean Kray:He's an athlete and whatever. And he does have glimpses of like, you know, when he played against Dortmund and he was just attacking them I'm like mad, but it's almost like the simple fundamentals of football. He's bad at. So I welcome players like Gallagher coming in and Robertson coming in because they do have those fundamentals. And it will improve us to a degree, but it's not going to improve us massively. I still think it's going to be an area of the pitch that over the next couple of years is going to be a weakness of us because we do need to sign better. but I welcome him coming in in the situation that we're in, 100%.

58:51Yeah, yeah. What about you, Al? I like it. I've just said, I feel that this squad desperately needs just personalities and people with something about them. There are too many, and this is, I hear myself saying it as like old man shouting at cloud type stuff, but like you go through those players, who's got some of them? You know, Vicario for his faults has got something about him right romero has and van de ven has porro has to a degree udogi not really spence kinda basuma no simmons no odobert no flanke fucking anime like lovely guy i'm sure but fucking anime like no we need some there needs to be a bit of you are one to talk don't dig out someone's like pastimes as a way to go on diminish them go on this will be interesting wrestling belts i actually don't actually own any wrestling belts but i would like now you're backtracking now you're back i never want to have a go hear another conversation you talking about wrestling belts account don't want to hear it don't dig out anime for fucking dom solanke when he's scoring goals for spurs and what you doing fucking on the podcast holding a wrestling belt up well not not all right but wrestling is is is good and you you've all been touched by wrestling in your life at some point and so finish your point finish your point but i just mean so people like gallagher you know and again he has his limitations i get it all the rest of it but one thing that everyone has agreed on is that you know attitude wise is spot on and has got something about him same with andy robertson like i'm all right with that type of stuff at the minute because as much as I'm a bit confused in terms of what the model is, but I'm thinking about the Just For Now, which as a 32-year-old player, you can only think about the next two seasons really anyway.

1:00:42Sean Kray:And he can cross a ball, can't he? That's all that Frank's really interested in. That's true, yeah. Tyson says, Flav, I heard you say once on a pod your dog's name is Frank. How can you bear look at him after every shit performance? uh i thought about a name have you thought about a name change or got rid of him unfortunately frank's no longer with us um he passed away two months ago frank uh so yeah i mean thanks for bringing that up mate it was after the arsenal it was after the arsenal it's after the arsenal game i had to put him down after that but he uh he's um no he's a good lad he's the only you can't blame a dog for this mate this is Frank's alright yeah no he's gone what?

1:01:34I put him down after the Arsenal game couldn't stand it no yeah he's golden he's the happiest little fat little pig you know like panic then I was surprised if something had happened that I wasn't aware about then mate what a friend would you be if my dog had to put my dog down because of an Arsenal game and you wouldn't even know yeah alright is there anything else that you blads want to touch on before we wrap this up anything else you wanted to say not really if we can get away with it it will get better well we've got Frankfurt yeah they've lost three and drawn three in the last six games they can't qualify for the knockout stages or the playoffs in the Champions League so just playing Spurs just in you know they can't defend they will be the harlem globe charters again he's spinning it on his finger

1:02:31i think i think like i said that that's let's let's cling to the to the bits and pieces that can be exciting and getting a result against frown and going into the next stage of a champions league is exciting regardless and regardless of what you think about what else is going on and who's in charge and whatever that means there are games then to be excited about because there's some jeopardy on on on the line you know so let's uh i think we'll do all right against frankfurt and we'll go into that next stage and who knows we might have a new manager one more kind of decent attacking sign in at that point and we're all excited one thing that i would say

1:03:04Sean Kray:is i i do feel like last time i came on here i was sort of saying oh you know i'm i'm numb to it and I'm in that kind of, I do feel like I've come through that. Well, now you're hurting again. I'm back in it again. And I'm now, yeah. So I'm not at that stage where I'm wanting to skip games and I'm back sort of, yeah. I'm ready to get really angry. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I noticed that in my dad and me yesterday. I think after the Dortmund game win, the sort of level expectation was risen. and then when the game started we were much more frustrated about that about this game yesterday than we were previously previous to the Dortmund game like in the West Ham game we me and me old man went to that and afterwards we didn't even really talk about the football it was almost like we'd just been beaten by them scumbags last minute as well because we were in corporate we just sort of like there was cake so we just kind of forgot about the football um but it but now you're right there's something that changed after the Dortmund game that um that it just meant that oh we can play so why aren't we playing and that's the that's the problem you'd never want to be in that that despite rage you're not being a positive emotion you'd never really want to get to that stage where you're just numb and feel nothing because what's the point i'm at a point where it's like like every time like we get an injury like another injury or another another result list i'm like fucking hell what's gonna happen next like what can this get you want to see the bottom now that's what you want you want to see what it looks like at the bottom uh what romero went off was he injured or just knackered he said he was cramping towards you all right okay sweet all right then nice one boys thanks again sean for coming back on and no doubt we'll have you back on soon is anything you want to promote your um you got your instagram where people can listen to you body MCs.

1:05:01Is that the right?

1:05:02Sean Kray:Yeah. I mean, everything's on YouTube, Sean Gray, but yeah, Instagram. Don't flop, isn't it? Because don't flop was, it kind of went away and then come back. You probably heard that we've had Tony D on the pod for a bit. You probably might know. I know Tony. Yeah, I know Tony well. Yeah. I mean, don't flop isn't really doing it anymore. It's Premier Battles now. Premier Battles, right, right, right. Yeah, yeah, that's the one you want to look for. Nice one. Cheers, mate. All right, cheers. Bye, boys

We’re back, and we’re joined by Sean Kray (battle rap menace, Spurs sufferer) and Alex (finally resurfaced now he’s got a missus and no longer drinks alone at 10am). We talk Burnley away, the loudest chant of the day, and why explaining “Thomas Frank, your football is s***” to a nine-year-old is peak Tottenham 2026.

We get into whether Frank’s actually seeing the season out, the weird little signs of improvement we hate ourselves for noticing, and why the noise might matter more than results. There’s love for Romero and Van de Ven, frustration with Vicario, debates about the back three, and the ongoing mystery of why our talented players keep playing like they’re allergic to risk.

Plus: relegation chat we don’t want to have, the “start the diet tomorrow” theory, a completely normal NordVPN ad that definitely doesn’t involve parental locks, and the age-old Spurs question: is this the worst we can remember, or have we just repressed the rest?
