1:33I mean, obviously not, Ricky. Obviously not. Stranger things have happened. Have they? I don't know. Probably not that strange. Yeah, I think it was pretty strange when Leicester won the league. It was pretty strange. Yeah, oh, that's true. Yeah, it was strange when Newcastle got relegated. It was strange when Aston Villa got relegated. Things happen in football. nobody is too good to go down and nobody is too shit to win the Champions League that's true yeah what was the last shit team to win the European Cup though
2:14because generally speaking let's do the winners generally speaking the teams have been pretty good alright I'd say would you say Liverpool winning it when they beat us. That was probably the shittest team. Okay, maybe not the shittest team. The club that's maybe the lowest ranking. Like Liverpool. Right, so the last, so it's been Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Man City, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Real Madrid, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Man United. They're all great. Porto, probably. Yeah, I was going to say, It doesn't sound like there's a Tottenham in there, does it?
2:58Remember, they had the genius of a young Jose Mourinho as well. Oh, God. The genius of Thomas Frank. Has your opinion on him shifted at all? Was that just the result against a very weak, sorry, Eintracht Frankfurt team? First of all, what I will say is let's not... Diminish. kind of uh poo poo the result yesterday right i mean who are we oh for fuck's sake why can't i
3:33hey can you hear me oh yeah i can hear you came back cheers rick so just edit that bit out in it no i ain't gonna edit it out you know okay uh good good good i don't even have time for that yeah let's not poo poo it rick because like how you know we can't we haven't had enough good
3:48The Fighting Cock:results to start pooing pooing wins they were good enough to get in there they were good enough to get in the Champions League. I thought they're there. No, you can only beat what's put in front of you and all that fucking cliche stuff. So, yeah. So fine. Oh, their stadium. That bit loud, isn't it? Noisy. Tottenham won't like that atmosphere. They'll spurs you that. Yeah, twice. Face melter, that one. Back-to-back seasons going away to Germany and winning games. Folded them up like a deck chair in there. Yeah. Was that Bode Glimp qualified, did they, for the playoffs? Apparently that was an easy tie.
4:23Yeah. Went away to the Northern Circle twice on the bounce. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Not losing, winning one. Yeah, exactly. Man City couldn't do it. No. But didn't they go to Atletico Madrid away? Yeah, exactly. Atletico, yeah.
4:37Maybe we're all right. I don't know. Maybe we're actually good and everyone's panicking. No, an accomplished performance with a super weak team in as much as players playing out of position. Formation, I know it's been, we've been playing three at the back recently. Yeah. Quite like it, quite comfortable with it. Yeah. A back line that's never played together in. Danso, Danso out of position on the left. Yeah. Paulina out of position, playing on the right-hand side of the back three. Yeah. On the back, I mean, in terms of players not available and players injured, just like, it's ridiculous. Like that, we had a better injured team than we had a team out there.
5:17Like you could have replaced 11 of them and we'd have had on paper a better team. Yeah, the bench was frightening. What did you do? No,
5:28The Fighting Cock:I'm not saying you can do anything, but it was just, I mean... I liked it. Did you really? I like looking at you and going, I don't know who they are. No, no. Who are these people? I thought I was reading the wrong bench. I was like, fucking hell. Who are they? Who's this fella? You're not getting on. You're not getting on. You're not getting on. Byfield, you can come on you can get on mate he's insane the size of that lad oh mate how can he be that big at that age he just looks like a normal massive bloke yeah yeah yeah but yeah the bench was the bench was Thomas Frank had very little to turn to who could legitimately influence the game and the only one that he did was big Dom Solanke I know this doesn't really play into the result last week, the result last night.
6:22But what do we do in this situation? We have got an insane amount of injuries. And it's not like it's they're back next week or a little bit of discomfort. They're back in 10 days. We're talking months. And some of those players won't be back playing this season. Now, we're in the January transfer window. Bless you. We're in the January transfer window. it's the 29th of January.
6:50The Fighting Cock:Do we go for players and just get them in, just to get bodies in, just to get a bit of experience in? Because we've just gone to the Champions League and that subs bench was fucking insane. Our starting XI was, like you're just saying, the players that were playing out of position was incredible. What do we do? Do we live and let Lionel and just be like, this is, you know, we've just got a lot of injuries, they'll come back, we'll manage, or should we have just gone out and bought players? Well, this is a good question. I do want to talk more about the game, Ricky, but I think you make a good point here, and that is that there is a sentiment of frustration, which I can understand.
7:39You've got the change for Tottenham movement, planning another walkout on the 75th minute. yeah you've got um various of our close friends all saying you know we need to sign players and i did a podcast on john's new pod yesterday and he was he was frustrated by it and i'm frustrated by it i want it to i want to begin quality players that improve us but i don't and i've got into a fair bit of stick on patreon as well people disagreeing with what i said that that they're they think the board and Venkatesham and Langer are underperforming and Paratachi, but he's halfway out the door, are underperforming.
8:19And I agree. I would suggest that they could be underperforming. But the sentiment to me, what I've been hearing is a lot of people saying, just sign someone. Yeah. And I'm like, well, who? and well that's not my job which is fine but I can tell you who's available seemingly available yeah Strand Larson and John Philippe Mateta would you want either of those brought in for 40-30 million no no for about four or five games Larson as the cheap buy for my FPL he was good but that was about it no I don't want them anywhere near Tottenham If we're aspiring to be this club that we're so frustrated about where we are in the league table at the moment, then those players are not going to elevate us.
9:18If you spend£40 million now on Strand-Larsen, and I don't think anybody wants that to happen. You know, anyone who's frustrated with Enoch or frustrated with our lack of activity. Yeah. I don't think anyone wants Strand-Larsen and probably the vast section don't want Mateta. but that's what's available to us. Like John made a point that we should be going for Marmush and I'm like, yeah, 100%. He improves us. If you're spending£40 million on Strand Larson now, we're not going to then, if it doesn't work out, go to spend another£80 million on Marmush or whatever it would cost in January if he surplus, sorry, in August, in the summer, if he surplus the requirements for Man City.
9:59Yeah. You can't infinitely spend and as fans, I think we very easily or willfully choose to forget money we've spent on players that are not good enough. Yeah. But to balance the books, you can't do that. So there would be an impact on dropping£40 million on Mateta or Sran Larsson now to satisfy the people that are just going, just buy someone. They're not saying just buy someone. They're saying buy people to improve our squad. How? Who? That's the thing. No one knows the answer. Maybe they should be buying. and maybe the people that would be available are ones that have gone under the radar, that's data-driven, that's perhaps undervalued by their parent club at the moment, or the club that own them at the moment.
10:46I don't know what it is, but Marmouche isn't leaving Man City in January, even as much as we'd like it to happen. In fact, it was reported yesterday that Man City are not allowing him to move. So if that's the same with Savinho, we went for him, big. Man City said no, that's the end of it. The frustration could be that perhaps Savinia should have pushed for a move or agitated for the move but if you if Spurs were willing to pay that amount of money 60 70 million pound for him that's them doing their bit you don't go back in with 100 million pounds he's not worth it so I don't know I don't I don't think my position is popular I think people if I find people are frustrated and they find will find what I've just said irritating and I appreciate that I don't aim to irritate people but I just I don't I don't want to spend money on PAP for the sake of spending it I don't think we find better wingers than Odeber or better strikers than Solanke or Richarlison in January I just don't The thing is it's one thing finding these players it's another that they'd agree to come like at the moment Yeah I'm including that Our league form we're in like free fall at the moment the next run of games we've got is fucking disgusting and it's like you would kind of be like it's it like i'm signing for this manager is he even going to be there come the summer is his backroom staff going to be there what about you know obviously no paratichie's off and there's a lot of movement happening in the um in the background at tottenham like i don't know if someone's going to be like oh yeah let's just jump ship now in January to to go to that bin fire at the moment so it's difficult and I get what you're saying and I equally I'm like looking at that team yesterday and I cannot believe that we Tottenham in the Champions League and the amount of money that we have and the pulling power and who we are maybe I just think maybe I've we're maybe I'm dreaming but for a team to go out like that, I just find it baffling, really.
12:58Not baffling, because obviously there's loads of injuries, but how we're not better equipped. I don't know. What can you do? You can't... Well, the question here, to come back at you for that, would be, if all the players were fit and available, would you have a problem with our squad? No. You probably wouldn't, right? You might. No. You would expect 100 % the club to be out looking to buy players better than we've got because they should always be doing that yeah we never did that that was one of the failings of daniel levy was that he didn't do that right he wasn't proactive he was like we've got a great squad here great foundations let's go and really improving it how man city would have done now yeah have and he never did and that was one of his massive failings um but if you look at the squad when people are fit and again even that's a bit of a moot point isn't it because when's the squad ever completely fit it's it's okay it's fine it's decent and can be improved upon what we saw last night is a product of obviously yeah ineligible players uh and that was because we've had too many foreign players and um and obviously Gallagher has already played I think he can play now in the next rounds then can't he?
14:14Yeah he should be able to yeah. Do you know that because Mark Gahey can but then Palace didn't play in the Champions League or is that?
14:22The Fighting Cock:Well one would assume it just resets when you go into the next phase of the Champions League. One might actually Rick. Yeah. One might. So I don't know man I don't know what I don't know what to say. I don't think we can buy many more players without completely bloating the squad when players return from injury. um but that's saying if there was a player available if marmouche was available 100 % we should be doing that if adam watton is available 100 % we should do it but is if liverpool are there is he going to sign for us i mean we saw like a rumor that just dropped into the whatsapp group and and yeah it's only a rumor liverpool interested 86 million or something like But how are we going to compete, one, money-wise?
15:12Would we actually bid 86 million? And two, out of Tottenham and Liverpool, where do you think he's going to go? Yeah, of course he's going to go to Liverpool. The first question can be answered, though, and has to be answered by the club. Because they've promised us that that's what they'll be doing, right? And is it just bullshit? And you know what? While the protests at the moment from Change for Tottenham are, you know they're doing their thing and you know we saw against West Ham that it wasn't huge like it was last season the jury's out on Enoch but people this new version of Enoch are willing to let them have time because the messaging coming out from the football club the 100 million pound cash injection the fact that that V and I have been contention has highlighted issues that they're aware of that we as fans have known about for a long long time means that that perhaps we're willing to give them time to put into place all the things they're promising and saying they're going to do but we will remember if they're not done well what i want to know is is what the what in living fuck is happening with our players and the medical department and ang players dead this season Players dead.
16:29Three year. Three year injury crisis. And then wasn't there that time that I noticed a rumour that Ange got rid of the medical team. He just went in there. Hey, right, everyone out. Clear desk. Get out. What do you mean? You're not our boss. Everyone. You've not got a second season. Get out. Oh, please have a second season. Give him a second season. Yeah, give me a second season, you shit. Yeah, no. Yeah. I don't know. And they must be scratching their head because no one wants this. No. The medical team aren't walking around going, I can't be arsed. Don't give a shit if another hammy goes. They've managed to work touchwood, touchwood, touchwood.
17:08They've managed to work on van der Ven. And he looks robust. Romero looks much more robust this season. Please, obviously, if I said that and something happens at the weekend, there's no such thing as fate, okay? Yeah. Please don't come and get me. But you know what I mean, Rick? Is it luck? Is it luck that we're struggling so badly with injuries? I don't know. Well, I mean, the thing is, right, Porro has now come up four weeks out. That is saying. That geezer. He's played a lot of football in the game. He's played fucking every single game. Every game for the last two years at least. That is crazy, the amount of pressure we've put on him to play.
17:52We shouldn't be in that position.
17:54The Fighting Cock:and yeah again like Spencer's there for his backup but he's been covering Utoki who's been injured as well but again he should be in that position because that we've known we've needed a left back for fuck knows how long what what did you make of yesterday's performance then Rick like did you enjoy it I I felt really comfortable for a long time did you right word yeah there was never a part of it that I felt like that they were going to score or that, um, you know, in football, it's the, the, your opponents are always going to have like 10 minutes of the ball, apply some pressure. It's good. It's good.
18:34You know, it swings in, um, like the momentum swings. Um, but I didn't feel like that they were at us or on top of us at, uh, you know, know we had them at arm's length and i kind of enjoyed some of the football we were playing
18:51The Fighting Cock:it felt like we again we'd been working on like the dortmund game it felt like we had been working on uh our passing and passing patterns moving the ball forwards and it felt kind of like i it almost felt like I could see something like something was happening like it just felt we were maybe not by much but it felt like we were further along the line as to say we've been like for the beginning part of the season and a lot through that throughout the league we've been unable to create anything or score from open play but the last few games it has felt different and there's been a small shift and yesterday I could notice it Dortmund yep a couple of the league games as well maybe first halves and second halves against different teams Burnley as well I know it's only Burnley but still yeah it's all kind of like you know like in stocks where it's been flatlining it's slightly there's been little raises little little green yeah little little green flicks and i'm like you don't want to say green shoots do you no i don't want to say green sheets green everyone's fucking saying that but i'm not this isn't me going oh good job frank you've you know it's no i'm still fucking angry yeah look at us in the league position i am fucking furious right and i've had to go to like every single home game and witness that right but I am starting to think is the worm turning?
20:33The Fighting Cock:Is this the Frank Ball that we're starting to see now? Do you enjoy it yesterday? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, buddy. Because the bar was so low and the expectation was low. I expected us to go and win. I've said as much in the preview we did on patreon.com. I expected us to win, so I wasn't surprised. I was a little bit concerned when I saw the lineup and how we were shaping up. Again, I was concerned about the back line. Would Paulinho be able to fit in there? You know he's good at attacking, but distribution's important for a defensive line. Sorry, a back three. You know, you need your ball-playing centre-backs on...
21:20That was a surprise, weren't it? I didn't see that. I didn't see that coming. When they lined up, I was like, what's going on here? Well, he played centre-back for Frank in a back four a couple of times. Back four, yeah. That back three, didn't see that though.
21:35The Fighting Cock:Didn't see Danso going on the left-hand side either. I was like, what's going on? No, I guess Danso's a little bit more ambidextrous than Paulina if you're doing it and he's playing him out of position and at least giving him his favoured foot. Yeah. There's a couple of things I liked about it and there's a couple of things I didn't like about it. So spring starts at the Home Depot and we are bringing the heat to your backyard this season. I felt like having him there on that right hand side with who started it on the right because Jed Spence was on the left and then moved over to the right.
23:24Who was on the right in front of him defensively? Or was it Jed Spence?
23:28The Fighting Cock:No, it was Spence. Yeah, yeah, sorry, sorry. So yeah, you had Jed Spence and part of the reason why they couldn't hurt us was because it was really difficult to play against those two players. You know, Jed Spence has these abilities going forward, but you'd say by and large he's one of the better defenders we have the football club especially one v ones right also if you look at the tackle the amount of tackles made i think it was like five or six that paulina made which isn't surprising because of the type of player he is and what he likes to do but on the other side danzo didn't make a single tackle all game right so yeah they're playing in similar positions they may have they may have looked to attack paulina and got nowhere.
24:09And part of that reason was because that right-hand side was pretty much closed up. It was a closed shop. And it was down to Paulina and Jed Spence being there. Most tackles during the game. Doesn't surprise me at all. For a Tottenham player that I know of, yeah. Yeah, did you just check that? Is that a fact, yeah? Yeah, it is a fact, yeah. Right, so that doesn't surprise you, but it gives you that stability. And so, yeah, while that was a really positive part of the game, I think where we were impacted was going forward because we know he's passing limitations, he's distribution limitations. He's okay if he's needed to find a man when he has space, deep lie, and he can sometimes play long balls that come off, but it doesn't feel completely comfortable with him.
24:51And there were times on that right-hand side, and I would say Jed Spencer's a little bit guilty of this as well, whereas Porro, we're so used to him whipping that ball in when he gets into that area, no matter if he's 20 feet away from the edge of the 18-yard box or if he is close to it, Pedro Porro is delivering that ball and he's doing it with quality. It was evident that he wasn't playing. And that's not a criticism of Jed Spence. I think that issue would be whatever the right back is. You could pick any right back in the league and you pretty much have that issue barring Carl Walker and maybe Rhys James.
25:28Porro is an expert in that area of the pitch and we really missed him in that respect. But what we didn't lack was any kind of defensive instability that Pedro Poro would have brought. Yeah. So I'm really kind of thinking if we're going to play a back three, Poro can play on that right-hand side. In Poro and Adoggi, you've got two really good wingbacks. I don't know if I was injured now for a month, but they are wingbacks. They were wingbacks before they got up to Tottenham. And they were forced into playing in the back four for obvious reasons and did fine, but really unleashing them going forward.
26:03I thought a doggy was good yesterday as well. Really balanced. Adds balance to the team.
26:10Yeah. Romero, man of the match by Country Mile. Him and Jabby Simms were our best players. Romero is... He's brilliant, isn't he?

26:22The Fighting Cock:Oh, yeah. Like, so with Paulina, I've got it here. Most touches, 127. most tackles and most accurate passes. How many tackles has your mum taken in a 90-minute period? Oh, in a 90-minute period. I'd probably say the one. One tackle, eh? Yeah, yeah. Well, the same tackle. Same tackle. Two footer, 10 toes. Four 90 minutes? Yeah, yeah. Four 90, yeah, yeah, yeah. Sorry, Rick. We're agreeing not to do this. No, it's fine. It's fine. It's good. So your mum's back on the table? She's not back on the table. But it's all right when there's an opportunity. Right. Right. Don't just, like, every time we're just talking, just come out of a random one.
27:07It's got to be well-timed. Tasteful, yeah, yeah, well-timed. Like a paladino tackle.
27:13The Fighting Cock:Yeah, exactly. Yeah, brilliant. That was good. That was good. Your mum is fair game as long as it's well-timed. Yes. You can't just walk up to Ricky and just say something about his mum. No, no, no. Out of context. That's not on, is it? No, it's not. Sorry, I'm understanding the rules now, Rick. I didn't. Sorry. It's a complicated game, but a basic game. I want to play it though. What was you saying? Oh yeah, I was just coming back with most successful dribbles, Odebeer. But yeah. You've grown into it a little bit, Odebeer now? Yeah. Last couple of games you've seen something? Yes. I think it's, he plays better on the right.
27:52Must be said. and he mentions, it was a couple of, it was a while ago now that he went playing at home. He feels the pressure of the home fans that he can't kind of express himself because he's scared of losing the ball. We don't know if that's true. That was a rumor spread by someone on Twitter. Not categorically true. Are you kidding me? Really? Yeah, I can't remember. It might have been Paul O 'Keefe who said. Oh, fuck. I don't know. Actually, I don't want to say that. I don't know if it is. Right. I felt like I read it and it might have been his name, but, you know, he's everywhere.
28:28The Fighting Cock:Right, right, right. Okay. Okay. Hey, right. I didn't know that. I thought it was, I thought it was like an Instagram post. No, no, no, no. It's not. But, but, but, let's assume. Yeah, let's say it anyway, because it's good to speak about. But yeah, it looks like he is kind of growing into that position and it grown in confidence, dare I say it? He has got no problem taking on a fullback, which I love about him.
29:05He drove with the ball yesterday. He was brave. He linked up well with Xavi and Spence as well.
29:14The Fighting Cock:And I think just kind of that final third in attack, they're starting to like Xavi as well. I feel like they're all starting to kind of come into their own a bit. They're just showing a bit more. I felt like that they were quite heads down, lacking in confidence, a bit unsure of themselves, not really maybe understanding tactics. I don't know what it was, but it feels like, especially in the games against Dortmund and Frankfurt, and Burnley as well, and first half against Sunderland, whereby I've felt... Any West Ham game? I'd never want to speak about that game again. Still fucking furious. I was so struggling to watch the football while I was doing.
30:03I was in the... What was I? East Ham. The old East Ham. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which is unrecognisable, really is, compared to the old shelf. But anyway, I was looking and I was like, I think I can see Ricky. That was what I was doing for most of the game. Is that him? Is that him? sorry Rick I interrupted you
30:22The Fighting Cock:yes I just I don't know I don't know what it is maybe a bit more freedom it's tough I don't know but I feel like they are starting to kind of show themselves a bit more I want to ask you a question about Xavi Simmons in two seconds right okay because you know while I'm reading this out I want you to think about where he might be in 18 months if you still respect us obviously right uh anyway we have um we've teamed up with match worn shirt uh which is a uh an organization that trades in match worn shirts and signed memorabilia and um and it's an honor uh to be able to push one of tottenham osuart's modern icons which is live now ending on the saturday the 31st of jan you can bid on a limited edition cinematic frame design featuring shirts signed by our legend, Son Hun Min.
31:23These in themselves are not match-worn, so they're match-worn shirts. They're are signed frame shirts. And you can bid on them now, and people are, tons of them. But the last opportunity that you can do this for is Saturday the 31st of January. The link is in the description below, so you can go over there and bid on them if you feel like you want to. And also keep an eye out next week because we'll be giving away a free signed Humin Son shirt for you guys to enjoy. So check out the Instagram for that. That'll be coming next week. But yeah, for now, go over to Match 1 shirt and you can bid on the Sonny shirts right now if you want to.
32:10Link is in the description. Hang on a second. did you say we we've got a signed match worn sonny shirt for next week no i think i think i wish it was an actual match worn shirt i don't think we've got that right okay right i think the i mean you know and the fighting cock is in that world where we could demand one of those right okay if in some world we have uh and i don't think we have i'm treating the if I made a mistake here then we'll do a we'll definitely we'll do a charity fundraiser rather than you know well I just I want this sun shirt so because I'm part of the podcast like surely rather than give it to charity yeah oh yeah I'll give it to someone that don't know if it was a match worn sun shirt from Bilbao and I said Rick you can have this and I genuinely would if I had that and I could give it to anyone and you wanted it, I would, without question, hand it over to you.
33:13Oh, really? Didn't I give you a signed cane shirt once? I've still got it. Where is it? It's upstairs. What era was that? That was, it felt like... It wasn't his... 16, 17, 18, 19? It was before his major breakthrough. No, no, it wasn't. Because it's not his... It was 37. Yeah. Yeah. That's right, yeah, yeah. So you know, I'd give it to you. I know how much these things mean to you. But if it was a match, but the alternative is like, we could raise£3 ,000 for charity. Would you say, I still want it, I don't want you to give that money to charity, if that was a choice? I wish you hadn't asked me this question on the podcast.
33:56Right, what would you say if I hadn't asked you? Imagine there's no podcast. Okay, if it's just WhatsApp, I'd just say, just give it to me, please. Just give it to me.
34:07Yeah. So head over to match-worn shirts. There's tons of them. You know what they've got really cool on at the moment, actually? They've got an Ugo Egeog collection. So I think they're raising money. Oh, shit. Yeah. So they have his collection of shirts that he'd swapped in his time as a player. I mean, I'm sure his family are doing something to raise money here. But there's an amazing one. Christian Vieri, Atletico Madrid. current bid on that is nearly a thousand pounds to be fair david platter barry fernando hiero uh spain so yeah some uh some quality shirts there um yeah so anyway if you go on the website click the link in our description you'll be able to find all of the sonny shirts that are up for auction they're all signed by sonny i actually think sonny's involved in the company in some way as well so um so keep an eye out we're doing some exciting things with them going forward um But Xavi Simmons, I know we're at a situation currently that he perhaps isn't delivering to the level we hoped he would do.
35:10We've seen promises of that. Certainly in Europe, we've seen a much different player. Somebody who's comfortable playing against teams that want to come out a little bit. Yeah. And I think you realise when you come to England how much of our football stinks. And I don't mean the quality of the football is bad. I'm thinking the way British teams choose to play each other in the English Premier League. Yeah. Whereas you go into Europe and everyone's having a go. That's why it felt so comfortable out there. Why it felt comfortable against Dortmund, is they're willing to have a go at us. Everyone wants to play football.
35:38It feels like that. They want to play football. Imagine that. Imagine that. Hey! Hey! Imagine wanting to play a bit of football and excite the crowd, Ricky. Imagine that game. Fuck me. God, I know. Literally, you look at the Premier League and it's like, well, we'll play a little bit, but hopefully we get a corner or a throw in. It fucking stinks, man. It really stinks. throw dogs kill me man. I think that there's I genuinely think that this is the hardest competition. Frank said it. He said the Premier League is the hardest competition in world football. I think he said something to that effect.
36:11Do you think he's saying that because we're like 16th or 15th? Correct. He is saying that. He wouldn't be saying that if we're 4th but I think he's also correct as well. Yeah, yeah. It is. It's so hard. It doesn't surprise you. It surprised me rather that the team that is the best at defending at set pieces is top of the league currently. And that isn't what we should aspire to be. I think that's why both people don't want them to win the league. And don't make my mistake, Frank is a microcosm of that. What he's doing at Spurs is, has all those ideas baked into his processes. And that's why he's not the right manager for Spurs and should be gone in the long run.
36:52Maybe even next week, I don't know. But he's not, the way he views football, which is correct for him and correct for Brentford and correct for that lot down the road isn't correct for Spurs. Yeah. And that's, therein lies the problem, isn't there? And then the thing is, you buy players like Xavi Simmons, who is an artist. I genuinely believe this kid is wonderful the way he approaches football, what he wants to do. But in the Premier League, it's just so difficult for him to operate. Yeah. It's a worry. We all have that dream trip we've been wishing we could go on. But too often, life, or usually price, gets in the way.

Well, if you served it warm, he'd probably throw it in your face, say, Oonga Boonga, and storm off. And nobody wants that. So drink it cold or not at all. Jägermeister. Damn, that's cold. 38:48that you kind of have that player who can't operate in the best league in Europe because he's up against stronger, faster players. And it would take him a year, 18 months to really fill into his role in the league. But I think when he does, it genuinely reminds me the way he plays of a young Luka Modric. And I'm not, obviously, he'll never amount to anything near what Modric has achieved. but the way he plays, the way he moves, the way he shows the ball, it reminds me of Modric when he arrived and played under Redknapp at the start when they're trying to work out how to use him. I mean, that's fair without being too over the top.
39:31Is that right?
39:32The Fighting Cock:Yeah. I mean, the Modric comparison, the way he moves and stuff, I can see it, but you're right. I don't think he's going to hit those heights. I mean, people very rarely hit those fucking heights, do they? Let's be honest. A decorated player in Real Madrid's history. No, I don't think they do.
39:59The Fighting Cock:But I think you're right. One thing that I've been, I don't want to start on a negative, but this is the first thing that comes to mind. Go on, Rick. It's fine. I was surprised at the game. I was watching, who the fuck were we playing last week? or was it last week? No, actually, yeah, it was Burnley. Burnley, sorry. Yeah, it was Burnley. What I was expecting for his passing, and I was expecting from the purchase of him was to unpick the lock, was to play balls down the channel, the perfect way to find passes that other people wouldn't really... His weight of passing fucking stank. It seems like an epidemic goes up, but...
40:45The Fighting Cock:It was, yeah, and I was just, I couldn't, I couldn't understand it. Overhit, underhit, not accurate. And I didn't know whether, like to kind of give him the benefit of the doubt of the, you know, the games he's been playing and he was injured for a while and then come back or he wasn't at least in the team. So he's still, you know, picking, picking up that rhythm. But the Premier League is so ruthless. It's the intensity, the aggression, everything around there. When you're doing that for 60 minutes, you're fucking exhausted. So your body and your mind is naturally tired. So when you get the ball and you've got a split second to make that pass, maybe you do under here.
41:35Maybe you do over here. Your legs are heavy. They're tired, full of lead. A bit of pressure.
41:40The Fighting Cock:Yeah. So, you know, I don't want to be like too harsh on that, but it's just something I noticed against Burnley. But then other times where, what game was it now? I think it was a Champions League game. We're at home. Or was it against Villa? It's Leeds as well. He was really good. He was picking, he was seeking the ball. He was dropping deep and he was driving forward. And he was getting fucking kicked to fuck. people tearing up and he was still driving forward he was getting battered that's what i loved about him getting the fucking game by the scruff of the neck and just driving forward and maybe that isn't his game but it was that i'm not hiding like i know things are on top but i i'm here and i'll receive the ball and i'll always show for it and i'll always try my best going forward and trying to create something but it's made like like i said like the the front you know i'll even include telling this as well because when he has uh played i am starting to see like an uptick in all of them which is um which is positive for the tail end of the season yeah i mean we need it oh fuck yeah what did I want to say there was something else I wanted to say but it appears to have left me um bollocks do you say something um did you oh no fuck I haven't done anything you can't have me there either oh shit yeah I was gonna say something about um the it's gone yeah it's gone yeah it's gone it's gone I think I was gonna say something about Frankfurt and them nearly scoring, hitting the bar.
43:26I don't even remember that. Don't say that. Say something else. Right, okay. The second half, we're... Oh, no, I haven't got it. No, it's good. Do you know what's really good about this, Rick, is we know there are tens of thousands of people listening to this. Yeah. Right, and we're now in a position, I'm staring at you, you're staring at me, we've got nothing to say. Yeah, just two of us, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. And as we're talking, it's even more possible to conjure up something else to say. Yeah. So what we're going to do is live in this moment, Rick. Yeah, okay. Until one of us figures out how we can move this podcast forward.
43:59Okay, we'll sit in these feelings. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Looking to each other's eyes. Yeah. And Rick, I want you also subconsciously to be working on how we move this podcast forward from this point. Because we've both forgotten what we want to say. And there's just two of us. Yeah. So do that. I haven't forgotten what I was going to say. I didn't have anything to say. I've got to the end of my point. Yeah, yeah. But you're, you know, if you're playing tennis, you've got to be ready. You've got to be ready to receive the ball.
44:24The Fighting Cock:Yeah, yeah, cool. You've got to think on your feet. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We're still thinking on our feet, though, aren't we? We're not, we're filling dead air. Yeah. And you've got to figure out how to move this forward, Ricky. What do you think of the game, the weekend? The game, the weekend, the City game. Good. Yeah, yeah. Are you... I want to lose. You want to lose? I want to lose. Yeah, okay. Okay, okay. You want to lose? This is good. I, at the moment, I'm in two minds because there was the bit. I'm still a little bit I want to win obviously when I want to lose if we had beaten City that time Arsenal would have won the title they would have been champions that's it right yeah and all this narrative around our tests all this pressure wouldn't exist right now we did the right thing yeah we did but at this moment in time it's not live or die whether they win the title from this result enough games there's enough games for them to hang themselves right so I'm kind of like do you know what if we lost okay that's three points to city and they they they gain on the gooners also if we draw we both get a point each that's nice and they i mean you know if the gooners lose then they will obviously gain a point on them but at the same time i'm still like I've got a question you have to be worthy of being the league winners and if we beat Man City then we beat Man City and it's down to them generally in the meritocracy of the Premier League yes you have to be worthy of winners yeah if Arsenal are worthy I still don't want them to win oh no no no right so I'm saying I know what you're saying, Rick.
46:12I know what you're saying. I've got another question for you. Okay. Is the feeling of Tottenham winning and beating Manchester City and moving up to 13th, right? Yeah. Is that feeling... What gives you greater pleasure? That feeling or the feeling of Arsenal panicking and scrambling around? Is it Tottenham winning? That's what you think. That would make you feel better? if I'm honest I don't think I've had as much fun at football in months as when Arsenal lost against United the other day because the social media fallout from that was fucking glorious this is what I'm talking about glorious I know there are Spurs fans listening to this and going how dare you like what are you even talking about it's not a title it's not what it was like before under Poster Cogli yeah how dare you even consider it yeah It'd be so funny.
47:08I'll tell you what. Hang on a second. It wouldn't be funny that Spurs lost. It'd be funny that Arsenal started to panic and their weird little fans can't cope. They cannot cope. They booed their team. Yeah. Did they? No, they didn't boo, did they? No, they did, Rick. They booed their team at full time when they're clear of the league by four points and haven't lost a game at home all season. First game they lost. Also, they're top of the tree in Europe. Like, there's nothing to boo. There's nothing to be upset about. You just lost a game of football to two screamers. And you're booing scumbags.
47:41That is wonderful. My mates, they are Rancouners. They're scared, aren't they? You're worried. Mate, the one who's got a season to get. It's fun being top of the league. I don't think it is. No. When we've been top of the league, it's been funny because we kind of know that we're not going to stay there. It's funny to kind of piss everyone else off by, we are top of the league.
48:03The Fighting Cock:Just give us a title now. Yay! Give us something out. while you're up there enjoy it live it live in it they want it they take themselves very seriously they want it yeah and after that my mate was coming home and the whatsapp messages he was sending of them bottling it again and i was just like this is i'm not even i'm not even dropping breadcrumbs for them to go and fucking devour yeah what would you do like when you he's got Rui's oldest friends, Ricky's oldest friends are gooners, right? They've grown up in Milton Keynes together. When Arsenal have lost or something, you talked about the breadcrumbs.
48:41What are they? Yeah, normally I would be, you can't go obvious, right? You can't go, ah, gutted and all that. If they lost to Brentford, I wouldn't do a load of B emojis. It's too on the nose. And they would react badly to it, right? You don't want them to react badly?
49:01The Fighting Cock:No, you've got to lure them out. Oh, did Azuz really have that bad again today? Yeah. Oh, yeah. And then they come out. They'll either defend or attack. And then you start luring them well away from the cave into the open field, and they've got nowhere left to run. And then you go for them. It's like cart fishing, isn't it? you're laying bait down you're laying bait down so you get him on the hook and then the fucker comes in that's right yeah there you go yeah that is beautiful I love that because you send the messages that you sent them look what I've just done yeah that is gold but if Arsenal get beat by Leeds on Saturday yeah which means if City beat Spurs they are one point behind them right if that happens right loss loss loss lose Yeah, yeah, yeah.
50:00Is it draw? Is it draw? No, do you know what? I'm backtracking here. Just let City win. Let them win. It don't matter in the grass.
50:11The Fighting Cock:Put in a good performance. Show some attackingness. Show your new patterns. Show your new passing patterns. Don't bend over. Give a new performance. Don't win. Yeah. I think that's where I'm at. For sure. um i forgot to send a message for questions so i've just done it right now and i've said literally got five minutes oh uh and we've got six questions so we'll do every one of these yeah okay um don artis says does the squad have the cojones to translate the champions league success to the premier league or is ricky going to have to go in there and use his fighting skills they rate your skills as a fighter i don't know johnny boy says i don't know what that means but I think it's difficult to do that, Rick, because we discussed this already about how to transfer the form from the Champions League to the Premier League because you're not allowed to play in the Premier League.
51:10It's very difficult. The standard quality of players is unreal. I think, don't expect that. If you have an issue with it, perhaps blame the way the league is and how much money is in it and and why mid-table teams can be buying players from ac milan you know that's that's the world we find ourselves in yeah one thing i did notice and i don't know if i mean i don't know if this is relevant to the question but i'm just gonna say it anyway but one thing i noticed in the second half uh frankfurt were playing it around at the back um and then it went back to their keeper and then i think it was simmons was chasing down and odore was chasing it down then it went to their center back and then javi closed him down and then the guy passed it out to their central midfielder and javi looked behind him and there was no one there that was
52:03The Fighting Cock:following the press and he was going mental shouting because of the camera angle you couldn't see who he was shouting back at and then he looked over to the board and like shrugged his shoulders as to say i'm fucking doing my job who the fuck's there like that kind of thing and then he pointed his finger back at whoever it was. I couldn't see who it was that was supposed to be supporting in that press. And that was the second half. So I liked that appetite and that enthusiasm and motivation that still in the second half in the tough game, you are leading by example and you are still trying to follow out the boss's orders and to press.
52:42The Fighting Cock:Alex from Bristol said it was at Udogi, but I don't know if it was at Udogi. I didn't quite see who he was pointing back at. But I just found it quite interesting because if those messages are being relayed and that's what you're supposed to be doing in the Prem and we're not following it out and certain players aren't following it out, certain players aren't buying into Frank's methods, then whose fault is that? The players. the players or that's what my dad would say Frank's not inspiring them or fucking loves Thomas Frank he loves him where is this come from I have no idea because he fucking hated Ange Poster Coglu and he likes to sack in football I don't know the one and only time me and my old man had an argument was after the Brighton game midway early part of last season no good enough he's not good enough he ain't good enough we're too open look at how the space I've had more conversations with him about the space that Pedro Porro left in the and system than I have about whether or not he loves me as a father.
53:56Well, when we were at the pub, he did tell me when we were having a pint and he said, yeah, that gal comes around and he always watches the football of mine. And then five minutes before the end, all are on final whistle. he stomps to the front door puts his trays on stomps out the house and then five minutes later I get a text message sorry dad I just got worked up and I was just like you're a politizer he's like that's alright son yeah I'm so desperate it hurts so much it does it does it's fucking painful it is it is painful like why I'm 44 surely I can intellectualize this surely I can go well I can't control this I won't allow it to affect me.
54:41It affects me. Yeah. There'll be times when we're watching the game, dad's talking and my step-mom, Valerie, will be asking about something completely unrelated to Tottenham and just something about, oh, how's the house going? And I'm like, Valerie, we are getting done on the counterattack right now. I can't talk about the house. I can't say that. And I have to turn and go, yeah, it's all right. I need some curtains done. We are being ripped open. We are being ripped open. And you're asking about questions, right? Sometimes it gets about 80 minutes and I'm like, I want to go home. I want to go home.
55:16I totally get that. Yesterday when Solanke's girl went in and I screamed, I don't know what comes out of my mouth. I just fucking say shit. And I heard my missus and my daughter in the kitchen go, I don't know whether that was Tottenham or it was Frankfurt.
55:34The Fighting Cock:And I heard them say that. I was like, what do you mean? And they said, we don't know who scored then. And I said, it's obviously Tottenham. And I said, well, what do you mean? And my missus said, okay, this is exactly what you said. Fucking get in there, you useless bastards. Then you said, fuck off, you bunch of wankers. And I was like, right, I can see how that's confusing. The first bit is get in there for Tottenham. Useless bunch of fuckers or whatever. That was Tottenham. Then I said, fuck off to Frankfurt. and then I was calling them wankers. She's like, right, I can't be right. Right, yeah.
56:12It is like a different language, isn't it? The amount of times I call them like a bunch of cunts or wankers in 90 minutes. If someone passes, oh, you fucking wanker. They're doing their best. Just before we end here, Rick, I've got a point towards, and it's not published yet, but a podcast I did with a lab with a guy called Dan Abrahams who is a, he is a sports psychologist and has worked with footballers like Gareth Bell actually talks about Dan Arun Abraham's book about how it helps his mentality he's worked for Brentford worked for West Ham he's worked in golf and it's fascinating what he does Feyenoord he worked with Arna Slott at Feyenoord when they won the league oh yeah mate it's really interesting and he talks about how you prepare these players mentally for success and being able to perform and so much of it is so much more simple than you think and you realize that these kids most of them like javi simmons is their their brains work like ours do right i i made a point that sometimes when i'm sitting to do a podcast i wish i'd get a message saying can't do the podcast mate sorry a minute before it starts and then i'm like oh i don't have to perform i don't have to do it i don't have to i can go back and doing something so um yeah it was interesting so i'm gonna that'll be out tomorrow on the labs feed so go over to the lab and subscribe and give it a like and stuff uh all right rick nice one mate you're a ledge and um we're back for the preview on the for the man city game lovely tomorrow yeah yeah after we do lads anonymous yeah boy what are we talking about this week do you know what i i've been worried that um you can see but But if you can see the reflection just here where my hat, I can't see.
58:02Well, you can see the reflection in the picture. Is your wife all right at home? No, not yet. But that reflection in the picture there. That's a framed picture of 9-11. Yeah. In your house. Why have you got that framed? It is 9-11. Why have you got it framed in your front room? No, it's bouncing. The light is bouncing off of the picture. That's what I'm saying. It looks like.
58:25The Fighting Cock:Yeah, I framed 9-11. No, on my screen is 9-11. which is what we're talking about tomorrow on Lads Anonymous. But that is an actual picture of Wolverton where I live. And it looks like it's framed because of the reflection. If you stand still, I can do a screen grab. There you go. I've got it. Lovely. And then I'll just send it to you so you can see what I can see. Oh, right. Okay. It just looks like you've got 9-11 on the wall in front of you. Good. Do you want the second plane hitting? Good. Second plane has hit. There's a second plane. Right. All right. Nice one, Ricky. Lovely. Up the spurs.
