1:17Jon Bass:You go to prison one time and suddenly it's all the jokes. R.J. Decker, series premiere, Tuesdays on ABC and stream on Hulu. it's the fighting it's the fighting cock it's the fighting it's the fighting cock I've just found out that our guest today part of the team now, Sean Cray he's 6 foot 2 and eligible for the big man army also joined by John Bass who is a long-standing member of the Big Man Army yeah well Sean at 6 '2 is a minnow in the Big Man Army obviously being 6 '3 you know obviously quite a big difference between the two of us you know but it's nice all welcome Ben Bowman's 6 '3 isn't he?

2:13Jon Bass:yeah is he really?

2:15Sean Kray:I wouldn't have said that

2:16Jon Bass:mate no he's massive he's massive yeah yeah he's massive and more of that Seb who's been on the podcast before he's also a unit and you look at Cal, Cal's 6 '2". So I'm just surrounding myself by actual alpha men because not being one myself, you need that. So if it ever comes on top, if any other podcast wants to go to war, I've now got Sean Cray in the group. You're not far off recreating that famous image of the girl sitting on the sofa with all the lads behind her. Just do that with the big man army. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't know what ends up happening there. Do I want that? I'm not sure I do.

2:57Jon Bass:It's up to you, mate. It's up to you. I don't want that. Let's start with Ennio Lugo. I'm joking. Let's start with the fact that we've got Romero to talk about. We've got injuries to talk about. We've got Newcastle tomorrow to talk about. I'm going to ask you, boys, just how you feel right now. could we go down are you genuinely worried sean that we could go down um yeah i think i think you

3:29Sean Kray:are i wouldn't predict it if but yeah bloody hell i'm absolutely petrified yeah i'm i'm because all it needs is for us to just flatline for the rest of the season which is what we did last season like we've got form for just you know rolling over and getting our belly uh tickled like Like, you know, that's what we've done. We did while doing that win the Europa League, fair enough. But there's every chance that we flatline and go down. So I'm petrified. Yeah.

4:03Jon Bass:How about you, John? Well, as you know, Matt, I don't really believe in, like, data. I just base everything on, like, emotions and feelings. And I've said many times before, I think football is basically like wrestling in the sense that there are, like, sort of storylines and narratives that actually feed into what happens on the pitch. And remember when we were going for the title in that Leicester season, and basically every team was like, we can't let Spurs win the league. We can't let them win. So they would play incredible against us and just sort of roll over against Leicester. What I'm worried about is it's that in reverse, right?

4:39Jon Bass:Every team from now on in goes, well, we could be the team that tips them over the edge. We could be the team that drags them in. We could be the team that relegates Spurs. the whole country will come together in like this sort of magnetism that sucks us into the depths that is the championship i am terrified by it i don't think there's you can you can give me any data source as to like teams with x amount of points by x amount of times and xg and expected points i don't care it's too close currently where we are now to the relegation zone for me to not be concerned about this in quite a serious way so yeah i'm terrified mate i said exactly the same

5:17Sean Kray:thing exactly the same thing john just said about this pylon and everyone kind of getting a dig in i said it yesterday to my mates they'll be listening and it's like it's just what would happen if you if you allow yourself you're stupid enough to find yourself in that position yeah no one's going to do us any favors boys we don't deserve any we shouldn't be in this

5:37Jon Bass:situation we shouldn't be asking for any favors the thing is is that i don't even think teams really need to turn up to beat us. They can just put 11 men out there and we are in trouble.

5:47Sean Kray:It's more rolling over for your Palace or your Nottingham Forest or whoever it is. It's more that.

5:55Jon Bass:I used to think that that could never happen. In professional football, there's no way that 11 teams, like Ishmael Asar of Palace is not going to roll over for another team because they want to see Spurs relegated. But the more I sort of, do you know, this is a bit of a sidetrack but I was watching the Man City and Liverpool game last night and thank fuck they managed to win that because not only do we have to deal with the fact that our complete existential crisis you know that everything we're going through might become a reality we also got to consider the fact that our fiercest rivals could win the league and probably probably will so watching Harland score or score a penalty was an amazing thing and then there was that bit at the end where the um suppose like pulled harlem back and then harlem pulled him and whatnot and they were talking about how referees have to play everything by the letter of the law right obviously they can't bring emotion into it it's not their job to do that they've got to apply the law i remember sitting with i did an episode of overlap with mark klattenberg and he was going now we you know the referees interpret the game and the game stay all the time.

7:06Jon Bass:In fact, the Battle of the Bridge, when we played Chelsea all 11 years ago, he didn't want to be a part of the narrative of Tottenham exploding or imploding. We should have had three men sent off. Categorically, you watch it back, they definitely should have been sent off. So my point here is, I used to think that people who are involved in the game at this level just do their job, regardless of the noise around it. Maybe I'm not so sure anymore. Maybe Ismail Assar will be rolling over against teams that we have to play against because he doesn't want Palace to go down. I don't know. It's a scary prospect.

7:43Jon Bass:We're six points above West Ham. They surely can't continue this form, can they? Man United are going to beat them, obviously. Fucking hell, how are we even in this position where we're talking like this? I saw something interesting on Football 365, five and it was a difference between the narrative around postocoglu and the narrative around thomas frank i want want to get your guys thoughts on this because there is a tweet from henry winter um the 3rd of april 2025 which was i don't know 10 months ago uh it's impossible to tell what thfc are supposed to be under ang postocoglu now no identity no unity minimal attacking threat players losing discipline they've got some good players but they're just drifting under Ange fans have clearly had enough of him it's Europa League or bust and the same you know this is Henry Twitter Henry Winter tweeting about Thomas Frank this year more pressure on Thomas Frank but how can he be responsible for Romero being banned for four games for a bad challenge amazingly some people arguing it wasn't read and the doggy limping off with another injury Frank without Madison Kulicevsky Kudus Poro Richarlison and Benzikor so the question here is why is Frank being given license to fail whereas Postacoglu never was because the injury crisis is the same for both perhaps worse for slightly worse for Frank but definitely significant under Postacoglu do you have any thoughts about that uh John yeah man I do feel like there is a sort of level of a conscious or unconscious bias around basically northern europeans i.e like a danish manager and his competency versus someone that's considered more of like an outsider in terms of like football in terms of an australian in in the shape of ang but that can be the only explanation for it and angie's sort of uh untypical route to premier league football you know sort of managing in japan and then you know then going to scotland and then you know get arriving in the Premier League versus sort of someone like Frank who's taking the more typical route of sort of taking a championship club up and then doing well and stabilizing them because it's so similar in a lot of ways but the one thing I can never get my head around that I just cannot understand why Frank is being given such a pass in the media is and I know this has in itself become a bit of a meme and a bit of a cliche but at least Ange had that 10 game period where I genuinely thought we might win the league right the whole could we thing was tongue-in-cheek but it was electric right we were genuinely smashing teams up and just looking brilliant and it felt exciting for the first time since like peak potch days where there was something new and you could really see this sort of inverted fullback system was really different and to the layman who's just looking at things and doesn't necessarily take in tactics and like you know systems and the data-led approach You could really see a very different approach to play in the game with the inverted fullbacks and what we were trying to do there.

10:42Jon Bass:Now, I know it ultimately unraveled, but we haven't even had the good bit with Frank to go, OK, well, obviously he's had the injuries and you can't mitigate for these sending offs and stuff like that. So I don't really understand why Frank's been given this cover unless it is, like I said, some sort of unconscious bias where people just expect Frank to be more competent because of where he's from. That's the only thing that I can think of. Because otherwise, if you just look at their record side by side, I just cannot understand why Frank's been given such a pass. What about you, Sean?

11:18Sean Kray:I agree with so much of that. But then I also would say that both of their natures are so different in press conferences and things like that. Ange naturally just goes against the grain. Just in his whole personality, but then his way to football, everything he's that he's that annoying stubborn guy who like will never back down which is which i mean lots of people like that as a trait in people but if you're a journalist and you've got someone who's always sort of nipping back at you all the time i could i could see where it irks them whereas with thomas frank he goes with the grain he's he he's completely the other way everything he does is his textbook nothing really surprises anyone it's all about doing the tried and tested way and just good and honest and just hope that it works out and then ultimately they're both in the same sort of position that they are they are but it kind of just feels like there's

12:23Jon Bass:um i've weirdly arrived at a position where i feel like fuck i'm saying i'm talking to stuff After the Man City game, I was really encouraged. I think after this Man United game, going down to 10 men at United in their current form and they're full of confidence, we were always going to lose that game when Romero made the challenge. And so if you're looking at it out of, if you take all of the context and all the position where we are in the league, if you're looking at that second half performance against City, the first 20 minutes of that game was encouraging Man City, Man United our chances but we were definitely in that game and there is absolutely no I think it's not a crazy statement to say that we would have definitely got something if we had 11 men it felt like that up until that point but you don't know so I just don't know I just think I I I I feel like I'm going into every game with a similar feeling as I did 12 months ago and uh Bostokoglu where it didn't feel like we're going to be able to win and we can't find a way to win and I think we're here again, weirdly.

13:33Jon Bass:It was another one though where the defeat was down to issues that happen without Thomas Frank's control, right, outside of his control. And that is Romero, as soon as I saw it, as soon as I, like in real time, the way he went in and you've seen it before and there may be some sort of baked in bias because it is Romero, but I knew, as soon as he made that challenge, he was gone. I didn't, there wasn't a moment's pause. And when they showed it in the replay, I was like, yeah. There are Spurs fans out there, even Arsenal fans out there, who think it was harsh. In fact, of all of the people asked, it was 59 % said it was a red, and 41 % suggest it was not a red.

14:24Jon Bass:I thought it was a red all day long. What did you think, John? so at the time I'm the same as you as soon as I saw it I was like oh no oh no he's just gone and got himself sent off as my initial reaction as soon as I saw it I saw the replay and it didn't really change my mind it wasn't as bad as I thought actually I did think it'd gone way higher higher yeah yeah and so there is an element of like this isn't as cut and dry as just well he's just done him he's done what he does a lot which is play the ball and then leave a little bit on the player in the normal world But in the normal world of football, and I weirdly was just scrolling Instagram before I joined this call, and I was looking at Sunday League football.

15:07Jon Bass:There are horror tackles like that, where they win the ball and then just follow for and smash people. It's not even a foul. In the normal world, most blokes who've ever played Saturday or Sunday football, that tackle happens every two minutes and nothing gets given. It's just play on. But this isn't a normal world. This is Premier League football. And even 10 years ago, that would have been a yellow. But now it's a red. So I can understand why people go, that's not even a foul. Because I'm like, yeah, in the normal world, it's not really, it's not a foul. You win the ball. He ain't a foul, he won the ball.

15:36Jon Bass:He ain't a foul. I was like, yeah, but Dad, you can't do that anymore. And this is it, right? And this is the thing where football has changed and why it's frustrating for people. Because for most of my life, that's not been a foul. What happened? He won the ball. Whatever happens after that, no one cares. That's how it used to be. But now you can't do that. We've already seen him. John, do you think that then it was, because I don't agree. I understand what you're saying that it once wasn't a foul now it is I think it's we're probably in a safer world where that should be considered a foul definitely a yellow card to me it's a yellow card like if I was in charge of the rules I would book him for that it's not in my mind it's not sending off the ball's there to be won he wins it he doesn't straight leg him right he doesn't leave his he doesn't extend his leg fully and basically snap his leg which is what he could do he just basically kicks the ball and the foot it hurts like hell and it's not nice obviously so it's a yellow card because it's a little bit excessive but in my mind it's not a red card but it should have been a red card I know what you're saying, let me give you another apology, would there be any other Spurs player on the pitch or in our squad maybe Bentancourt that would have gone in the way that Romero went in?

16:49Jon Bass:No, I mean this is very much a Romero type tackle and again that's part of his problem i also think that a lot of players would would make a similar tackle and not be sent off right and that's another issue which is that he's created a reputation for himself as a player who is looking to do people basically so he is being refereed different which is not the right way to think about because he because he does do people he does people and the other thing sometimes a great challenge yeah he's fucking consistently doing people and it's going to catch up on you and we are going to bear the brunt of it yeah and the other and the other thing just one last point on this because I've seen loads of people going like, I think in the afternoon there was a game where basically it was the same tackle happened and the player was booked instead of sent off.

17:33Jon Bass:And the week before, a couple of weeks ago, there's the Dallow challenge that was also a yellow and wasn't a red that was very similar, right? But everyone was saying they were reds. Right? That was the point. They were going, I should have been a red card and it wasn't. Right? So Romero's was the same and therefore was a red. So if you want consistency, that's fair enough, right? They should all be reds is what people are saying. When has there ever been consistency? Ever. This is it. Cross-refering. This is it. You have to do it in the... Yeah. So basically, my view is, in the real world, it shouldn't really have been a red.

18:06Jon Bass:But we know that you can get sent off for that. Romero definitely knows he will get sent off for that because he is refed differently. And there's not much he can do about that. Also responsible for it. Exactly. So ultimately, it is his fault. and I do really, in this one instance, in this one game, I do have some sympathy for Frank because you cannot legislate for him just going, oh, fuck it, I'm just going to smash someone and see what happens. He knows it was going to end badly and he's let us all down because of that, I think. Sean, do you think he has let us down? Because the way his brain works, the way it's wired, he's not thinking about anything other than winning that ball in that moment.

18:45Jon Bass:The fallout is that he's gone for four games now two really huge games that we could have done with him. And this pushes us closer to the relegation zone than we would have been theoretically if Romero hadn't done what he'd done. But he didn't necessarily mean to do it. He just, this is the way he plays football. And that is the way that's led him to winning the World Cup. It just is his game. Lionel Messi says he's the best defender in Europe. He's hearing that from Lionel Messi. fuck what we think or what Henry Winter thinks or whoever Thomas Frank thinks. He's hearing from the greatest player that's probably ever played the game.

19:23Jon Bass:I am the best centre-back on earth and this is how I play football. There isn't a question there.

19:29Sean Kray:Yeah, it's 100 % his fault though. It was stupidity because it's like, I agree with all the premise of what John's saying. I'd love a world where that wasn't a red card. I'd love a world where Chavi Simmonds on Van Dijk wasn't a red card. And it's not just two Tottenham players, that style of red card. I don't like a world where they are red cards. But it's been the case for a long time now. And he's had four red cards for us. Six. Sorry, is it six he's had now?

20:04Jon Bass:Six he's been at Spurs, yeah.

20:06Sean Kray:Oh, okay. He's even worse then. And it's like he continues to do it. like he's not when we're talking about sunday league and things like that that's where you kind of you see people who go out there and actually try and break people's legs or you go back to people like ben thatcher who would actively see red to the degree that he would do that roy keen on um alfinger harland like it's it's we're not saying that he's doing that but what he's doing is risking exactly what this is three match ban four match ban as this one is by just just grow up stop doing it like i appreciate you saying that like oh it's got him this far but surely with all these red cards somewhere along the line he needs to kind of be like well no i'm actually becoming a bit of a liability by by doing this he's he's gone in there to try and get the ball and he's actively tried to do Casemiro at the same time he's tried to leave something painful on his ankle it's not he's not tried to snap his leg he's not tried to end his career but he's going for that extra bit where he doesn't need to do that and I know like people have always said it about people like Wayne Rooney and they said it about Dele Alli they got to live on the edge to get the best out of them but somewhere along the line a manager needs to kind of step in and and say look if you don't take that your game we're not going to play you anymore because we can't afford you like I remember saying like on here a couple of a couple of weeks ago that like when you add everything into the mixing bowl with with Romero and you take into account the goals that get given away by him passing it straight to a striker or the the calamitous defending all the red cards as brilliant as he is with the rest of it and he's really has been captain fantastic for us he's been one of our biggest goal threats and you watch him and he is a marvelous defender you take it all in it hurts you like and he it's it's something that he needs to correct but I don't think he's he will look to correct it I think he'll look to go elsewhere and I don't know he might get a fresh slate but here I feel like people are losing their patience with

22:22Jon Bass:do you think like Sergio Ramos was similar to him I I think I would say if you had to no actually I couldn't separate them they're both dirty bastards right but Sergio Ramos was another sorry was that Pepe was another yeah yeah exactly Pepe was a fucking he was the worst actually but they won consistently and if you win you can kind of get away with it it's seen as something else if Romero and probably he's probably looking at this if he ends up going to Madrid, which I think he's good enough to do, probably without question good enough to do. If Dean Housen can go there, then Romero can definitely go there.

23:00So much of his ability to

23:05Jon Bass:explode or do something that would affect the team would be swallowed up by the success of the overall, the machine that he plays in. So I don't know. It's an interesting one. There was some questions about whether or not he should have even been captain for the game given his comments attacking the board you know I think as fans we all agree with what he said it is a disgrace the fact that we don't have we didn't bring in anyone given our injury crisis in the situation where you got like 12 13 first team players now because of Romero's actions we've got one less a doggie's injury which is going to put him out for four to five weeks for another hamstring injury I think I'm right in saying it's his 16th injury since coming to Tottenham.

23:48Jon Bass:I need to check on transfer much. So, yeah, we are in need. Sorry, mate. Sorry to cut you. I was just going to say, just quickly on Romero, though. I think, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like most of us, I certainly did, was on Romero's side with his comments. I think most Spurs fans sided with Romero, right? Because he was kind of sticking up for us. And again, it's something that, you know, to Sean's point about Frank, who toes the line in the media, romero not toeing the line the media can't stand it right and they're all against him calling him a disgrace and all the rest of it but actually he's just saying a lot of things that the fans feel and i think we all saw it as like a positive thing that he's the captain of the club he's speaking out because he wants the best for the playing side the problem is he's completely undermined that immediately because now what he's done is he's basically got himself sent off in a game that we were in so we could have potentially picked up points which we need to be able to stay in the division we've basically given frank a pass for that game so like if you if you didn't fancy him you didn't think he was the right manager well you've just given him a pass for that game he's not going to get fired even if we lost four nil because you got yourself sent off you're now missing for four games where you've said yourself we don't have enough players and you've put your teammates right in the shit because you're the captain and one of the most experienced players a world cup winner to your point that's now not available in this crucial moment so in my mind you've completely undermined your entire point and also frank to be fair to him didn't and hasn't sort of stripped him of the captaincy or fined him or anything we haven't seen anything publicly in terms of reprimanding him and the first thing you do is get yourself sent off so if frank has sort of gone to bat for him to support him you've thrown him under the bus immediately as well like i just the whole thing is completely undone a lot of the goodwill that he'd created for himself in my mind and i just think it's just it's really put us in quite a bad position now uh just to clarify a doggy's injury is 16th in his career not that's the first there's his eighth at tuttland well when you want your spring break to feel like

28:23Sean Kray:that sean i mean there was it there was he didn't articulate it like brilliantly and but yeah it was certainly if you asked me on um during the game i would have probably agreed with him you know i mean it was i was i was fuming that that is where he has really let himself down because he did kind of draw a line in the sand that was kind of like right it's the fans are with Romero and they're kind of against Frank and the board and then all of a sudden another line has now been drawn and lots of fans are like fed up with him um I don't really read Twitter or listen to talk sport too much so I kind of go off my group chats that I'm in as much as anything and I've noticed a little bit of a shift in people kind of being like I don't even blame frank so much now these were people that were that wanted his guts for garters a couple of weeks ago and all of a sudden they're like do you know what he's he is being let down and i do feel like that's i don't i haven't shifted i've you know i'm still quite unhappy with frank but he's he's definitely got a job that's been made harder by his captain there so yeah he's one of those geezers that he's he's hard to hate like really but he's um but yeah i i'm on that potch bandwagon as much as as much as like i know it will end in tears but i don't give a damn

29:53Jon Bass:i want him back yeah yeah i think we're all there we're all there john are you quickly there because i listened to his podcast with the high performance podcast that he was on today on the dog walk and I've been in I was in before Postacoglu I wanted him back where are you you want him? I'll let you into a secret if I was in Daniel Levy's shoes Poch would still be our manager now he wouldn't have left hold on a second with a bit of hindsight we shouldn't have left even when get him out get him out get him out of Pochettino get him out Jose Mourinho yes that's what I was like at the time honestly do you remember there was a pod that went out it was the night before Poch got sacked and it was like should Poch stay or go and then basically he went that night and the pod went out and it was out for a few hours and then there was the news about Jose Mourinho and you basically got on everyone like a few different people on the pod to give their opinion and I don't know why but I couldn't do it or I wasn't available or something like that and I remember thinking oh someone else will be pro pot like someone else would be like no he's got to stay and basically everyone wanted him out and i remember thinking that's annoying now because i haven't got it on public record i haven't got the receipts to be like i said this is a man for everybody's name this is a man who goes and finds old messages in whatsapp groups from years ago to prove a point that's true i literally during the game i found one from two years ago going i hate romero just retweeted it this is me like

31:25Sean Kray:i've been on this for a while when you go searching for these uh these old things do you ever come across ones that prove you that you're wrong and then just go oh i'll conveniently miss that one

31:36Jon Bass:out sean sean you you must know the old adage never let truth get in the way of a good story mate don't don't let it ruin it just just let them go just ignore them find the ones you want and then retweet them but yeah i i desperately wanted potch to be basically what's happening with frank now right i wanted them to go look regardless of what happens we see this is the bigger picture we're gonna back you we understand there's like problems with the squad there's problems with individuals there's like lots of moving parts we're going through a transition right all the things that was that were happening with Poch the difference with Poch at the time is that he'd actually delivered stuff for us like he'd created a brilliant team he'd moved us from you know one stadium to another stadium almost you know three different stadiums under his watch and managed to keep a team successful got us to a Champions League final got us to a point where we were a respected title chasing team and so the first sign that it wasn't working it was like nah let's move on to the new shiny thing now we've got a manager who's done absolutely nothing for us it doesn't matter what happens they won't sack him because they're like we at some point you got to stick with a manager it should have been potch we should have stuck with him and through thick and thin and given him the time and the resources to rebuild we haven't so now if we have the chance to bring him back we 100 have to do that and again i'll go back to my point that i've made at the very beginning of this pod i don't believe in like i'm not that interested in data and science and analytics and all that stuff i'm about the romanticism of football and we need as a football club we are sort of a romantic football club you need someone who gets it and has the passion that's why we have like you know once in a generation players that play for us why it makes no sense why have we had gareth bale luca modric harry kane son why have they been at our club because there's something magic about spurs and you need a manager who captures that magic which is why for all his faults Ange was the one that won us a trophy Ange why because he was the most emotionally invested manager we've had he was the one who got what Spurs was about the most and then before that was Potch because he got it emotionally the most and so for now it has to be bring him back give him like the support that he should have got first time around and we we go again the phoenix from the flame Spurs could be back get him get him right back in the mix son when when you listen to this podcast with with um jake humphries is the high performance podcast with him and jesus periz you're like you listen to him you're like this is exactly what we need it's probably i mean it probably isn't right it might not be exactly what we need there might be another manager out there is exactly what will bring us forward but when you listen to him talk like you know you've mentioned it and you do this consistently joining sort of like i'm not into data right i'm into into to under like fear feelings and and and intangibles right and there was a part of the podcast where he talks about that and he talks about when you're looking at your squad when he first arrived at spurs he wasn't looking at the data specifically said i wasn't it wasn't about data it was about who was turning up on time who was what were they wearing when they came in what car were they driving what was their attitude in training how did they stay back all of these things he used and he identified harry kane who spurs were trying to actively sell at the time we were trying to get danny welbeck in from manchester united and that would have been the end of harry kane because he would have affected in the fourth choice striker uh pochettino was saying we don't need welbeck we've got harry kane they did say that we there was no way that they knew he would become the striker that he did but but he did and um so i regardless of all of the kind of sort of sensible approach to this that don't go back all that sort of stuff if there's any world where pochettino if we can create an opportunity for him to come back we should do it we really i thought he was good at chelsea

35:45Sean Kray:it's not even like you're really going back

35:48Jon Bass:he talked about his time at Chelsea and how difficult it was and how weird and young that squad was and how it took time to build into something that, you know, the reason why you've just said that we saw at the end of the Chelsea season

36:03Sean Kray:so it's not like Potch is this dinosaur when he left us it was a case of that the squad had been neglected and he needed like John says, needed this kind a project to go again i remember coming out of the stadium after bayern munich uh slapped us up and i was like look we're in trouble here because daniel levy is not going to overhaul this whole squad and um and back back potch in that way so in that for that reason i reluctantly think potch has to go because that was that was where we were the the other the other way of him having this project just seemed like a bit of a fantasy land but if we like now actually do have owners and then i mean that's up for debate but ones that are looking to actually rebuild the squad and do something different who better than potch like they're not saying there isn't there's probably loads of people that could be better but from what we know we've got to get behind it he we all love him he loves the club and it's like yeah i appreciate there'll be some like young young fans probably listening to this being like listen to this not talking about pochettino like but i don't give a damn about him like let's get let's get him get him back it was a tap-in before

37:24Jon Bass:postacoglu yeah definitely a tap-in now he's going to be available after the world cup we've got a manager who is you know i don't think there's never been since george graham a more unpopular manager in thomas frank not because of who he is as you mentioned sean like he's a he's a nice geezer like we don't want any harm to come to him right it ain't like we think he's out you know he isn't unable to do the job and we understand fully that the the injuries and and romero's actions at the weekend and all of the things that are going on but a lot of it's out of his control i think any manager would be struggling struggling right now including pochettino but sometimes you have to go back and the thing is is like you think about like you never go back right but the amount of relationships where you think like it was all right it faded out it got a bit boring things weren't going right you go out there and realize the glass ain't greener like there's girls with gonorrhea and i'm just sick of shagging them let's go back to my beautiful wife who doesn't have gonorrhea right that's kind of where we're at where whereas you know frank's got gonorrhea and and and we know post pochettino doesn't and so there if there's an opportunity to bring back mum or dad depends how you look at it then then bring him back and let's just see and it is like that tapping we need something to hold on to like there may be a plan for from Venkatesham and Langer and about Frank but the fan base ain't on board and they're gonna rue the missed opportunity if they don't bring Postico fuck Pochettino back if they don't bring Pochettino back in these circumstances and it ain't just it's a tapping but it doesn't have to be that support him you know he spoke about, you know, the bit of his career that he gets criticism for was when he went to PSG and he had Neymar, Messi and Mbappe as his front three.

39:26Jon Bass:And the way they spoke about that and say it was like, it was impossible. Like you had them arguing who was going to take the penalties, who was going to take free kicks, who was going to take corners. And now I've got to get them to run and press. It's like, it's just, it was a different football club. I think there are some sections of perhaps the Spurs fan base but there are certain sections of football that feel like post the court fucking done it again pochettino has the kind of games moved on from him and i think it's nonsense i really do yeah um yeah so it'll be uh it'd be great great to see him back but how do you feel about tomorrow night boys this episode is brought to you by indeed stop waiting around for the perfect candidate.

Payment processing fees and boosting fees still apply. see website for details do you know what again like with the with the group chats and that i've got going where it's been polluted with apathy and toxic toxicity but in the last couple of days it's actually been like people they're like do you know what we need to get behind them it ain't about moaning at the manager it's about like i was i was saying earlier like you look at when when Everton stayed up a couple of years ago and Richard Arlison scoring and Goodison going mad and the limbs and all that.

42:10Sean Kray:We need to create that kind of thing. At home, our record is diabolical and our atmosphere is just as bad. We need to somehow get into a stage where everyone is backing them. We've got a few night games coming up, say Newcastle, Palace. they're just we need to we we need everyone to sort of come together and that isn't going to be in a manufactured way no one's gonna you know um call call everyone out on twitter and they're all going to come in and flags on seats it's not that it naturally just starts to happen and i feel it happening amongst people that i know where they're like look this is very very serious now lots of people are, I know you don't want to dig people out and say, oh, you know, ostrich head in the sand and all that.

43:05Sean Kray:Some people just think we will be okay. I can't tell you how we're going to be okay, but we're going to end up being okay. Other people are like, you know, we're gone. But most people are like, if we're going to get out of this, something needs to change. The screw needs to start turning. And yeah, I just, I'm starting to feel it. I think we're going to see a good atmosphere and I just I've just got a feeling we're going to do them tomorrow and it's a bit of they're they're in poor form but it's like you just let's just say I saw a bit of a better attitude I mean against Man United before Romero got sent off I did feel like we were up for it we were starting to create things in the final third I did I was worried I didn't think we were going to go and win the game purely because and this isn't through like hindsight but i saw them getting too many opportunities of getting shots off in and around the box and they've got people like bruno and like umbumo and that who and the warning signs were there and like when the when the goal came the way it came from the corner and he was unmarked i always sort of felt like it was going to be one of those ones where we have a really encouraging display, but without actually putting them to the sword.

44:26Sean Kray:Like if it was a Harry Kane and Son kind of thing, and we were creating those chances, you'd be like, oh, eventually we're going to pick them off. But I was thinking we're going to probably not quite pick them off and they're going to score one or two of these chances. But that's against Man United where they do have players that are capable of doing that. Newcastle at home, if you do in a night game, crowd are all kind of up for it and whatever. I don't know I just Gutt just says I think I think we're going to beat them like not hammer them or anything like that but I just I just think we're going to nick it one way or another

45:01Jon Bass:If we beat them we're safe then right more or less

45:06Sean Kray:If West Ham beat Man United then who knows but I swear to God I swear to fucking God

45:13Jon Bass:I swear to God if that cunt doesn't get his hair cut I'm going to fucking do my brain I am going to run in front of a fucking truck if Manchester City if West Ham beat Man United I tell you that guaranteed straight in front of an Aveco bash problem solved I don't mean that something needs

45:35Sean Kray:to knock West Ham out of this little stride they've got going because it's very annoying but yeah did Palace end up winning in the end yesterday didn't they I saw they were winning 1-0 later that was great as well

45:49Jon Bass:yeah them fucking winning This is what I mean, because they were the stone that I was looking at being like, well, you know, even if all else fails, Palace, and then they go pick up a decent away win.

46:01Sean Kray:And it's just, but yeah, I think we're going to, I think we're going to nick one tomorrow, but I wouldn't put too much money on it.

46:09Jon Bass:I love this question from Bosco. He says, will we have to prioritise Premier League matches over the Champions League round of 16 to avoid relegation? there's no well we should be prioritizing the champions league over anything we're not going to fucking win that yes the answer bosco yes is yes no i think go the other way double down mate right get relegated and try and win the remember last season when i was like we were at the start of the season we were joking go would you take finishing 17th to win europa league and i was like yes definitely just do it who cares uh well i do care as it goes but i would still do that again uh and take that trophy so this year if it was like you get relegated but you win the champions league i think i might take that i think i might take that would i wouldn't even think about okay now i'm saying prioritize the round of 16 or prioritize the league game what are you doing yeah yeah no no no no no no you've given us the final you've given us the results rather than the method the method is how do you think you get the results mate you've got you've got to win the around a 16 haven't you so prioritise it get through to 16 see what happens to dare is to do my friend we don't sit around going oh what will happen this is Flav you've been a Spurs fan your whole life what will happen is we'll rest our players we'll get knocked out and we'll still lose the fucking league games anyway so we might as well not think about it and just do play best teams in both we'll also prioritise the Champions League go out in quarterfinals and get relegated yes same thing yeah but at least we tried At least we were trying.

47:43Jon Bass:At least we dared. Every Arsenal fan I ever meet, at least we tried. At least we tried. Yeah, I don't know. How do you see Newcastle going, John? So, weirdly, I don't know whether it's some sort of universal shift, but I kind of had the same thing that Sean's talking about, where up to the City game, there was a part of me in every game where I was going, I hope they win, so Frank goes, because I can't deal with this anymore. just wants to keep losing so he goes like get just get this over and done with if we're gonna lose let's lose eight nil so it's just like you can't stay and then the city game came and there was just some this weird i don't know just feeling of like this is supposed to be the nightmare run and this is started quite well there were signs that we were sort of playing quite well and it was off the back of the champions league and you know we got a couple of wins we're basically undefeated in three or four games or something like that and so i had this sense of optimism of like maybe if you can just get a point at Old Trafford suddenly you're going into this Newcastle game and you've got something to cling on to and suddenly this horrible February could actually be all right and suddenly you've got you know four or five points that you didn't think you were going to have and this is looking all right and even when we were when it was 11 versus 11 and they were on top of us I was thinking we are weathering this though like if you can just get through this United are in great form you're at Old Trafford they're you know they're really buoyed you can just stay in this game stay in this game that we might be able to get something and even when it was 1-0 for ages with 10 men I was I was thinking we got a chance here this is what happens in football you stay in the game long enough and they don't get the second one you have a chance of getting an equalizer and so it wasn't that we were playing well it's just that you know I felt I just feel this positive shift of like I need to get behind this I need to believe that there is some light here.

49:33Jon Bass:Otherwise, this is just going to become horrible and because there is no world in which Frank is going to get sacked seemingly. It doesn't matter what happens. They're not going to sack him. So at this point, I am just blindly optimistic and I feel the same with Sean. I feel like tomorrow night, we've got a really good chance of winning and we need to. So I want to believe that we can because I can't keep going into games feeling like we're just going to lose. Name our backline. is going to be Sosa left back okay it'll be Spence Spence is fit it'll be Spence yeah but who's going to play right back Gray yeah Gray always plays right back okay literally 90 % of his career he's played right back I think I would start Sosa you know I thought he was great when he come on get him in we need sometimes you need a lift you need a player that comes in out of nowhere and just gives you something I'm going to go Sosa I'll go Sosa it's alright Sosa Sosa and then it's got to be van der Ven I think I'd play Palina centre back is that mental instead of Dragoson it's not mental it's the only option we've got we've literally got no one we started the season with fucking eight centre backs Dragoson oh of course Dragoson yeah but I think you'd go Palina wouldn't you I fucking don't know do you know what do you know what John I don't fucking care I don't care alright just fucking go out there whatever 11's played go out and win yeah but yes perhaps perhaps and then grey at right back who I think actually has also been alright so what about Spendog you haven't that's your point I just don't want to rush him back because this is what we do mate like Destiny came back and he's just played every game injured immediately like we can't just keep bringing him back in we've signed a left back for cover so cover he's like you need he's got to you've got to ease him back in I think and he's always there if it's going horribly wrong you can just bring him back can you imagine if you're Sosa right you're playing for you're playing for who is it is it Sao Paulo who did you buy Santos no was he Santos it was Santos

51:30Sean Kray:and so we

51:31Jon Bass:yeah and I spoke to Tim Vickery about this we did an episode of the Lab all about him and if you want to find more about our new Brazilian left back then go and listen to that episode in the Lab but

51:45I

51:45Jon Bass:I spoke to him what the fuck was I saying oh yeah so imagine right you're in Brazil you're playing for Santos this is a team that attracts no it's well famous don't get me wrong like an incredible club is everybody knows it around the world but tiny football club in comparison to some of the others and uh you you can imagine that he's been following british football or the premier league for many many years he's been flown over he's been in a couple of squads and then suddenly he has to come on at old trafford against manchester united like that's like he's only 18 19 years old i don't think i i had to get my kid up out of bed two minutes to eight this morning when he's supposed to get up at half past seven and he's only four years younger than santos i mean sorry than salser so because surely he's like the mentality around it must be must be affected to some degree

52:45Sean Kray:i think it would affect him more if he lived in this country though i'd imagine that coming over but the ascension that he will have gone through his teenage years, he'd just be thinking he's born to go into those kind of situations.

53:00Jon Bass:He looked comfortable. I know he got done on the right-hand side, but he recovered well.

53:05Sean Kray:Yeah, these players do eventually get humbled, and then maybe that can affect him. But I think he's in that situation. When you're desperate, I wouldn't be worried about playing him, and that's with not knowing anything about him. but I'd be quite happy to see him have a go tomorrow, to be honest. I would say Dragushin would go at centre-half, and Palina would go in with Saar and go to Gallagher. That's the set-up that I like, and then three in front of them.

53:37Jon Bass:Yeah. All right, mate. A bit of a humble brag, but my nephew plays for the youth team for a very prominent Premier League team. And this week he was trained at City, and he was playing in training up against Harland and Semenyo, right? And I was like, wow, he's only 16. I was like, wow, that's incredible. So I said to him, oh, my God, how was it? Was it all right? He just went, yeah, it was all right. No, just, yeah, it was all right. Just another day. Right, so like what we think of like, oh, my God, you're coming on in a Premier League game at Old Trafford. They're like, yeah, that's my job.

54:09Jon Bass:Like, that's what I'm prepared for that. And like, yeah, okay, it's different in training and stuff like that. But it's the same principle. To me, I was like, wow, you're training with the first team and you're marking these players. And to him, it's like, yeah, that's the next thing. I need to get into that thing more frequently. So I think just play Souza. And like I said, sometimes you just need a spark from somewhere. I thought he looked really exciting when he came. He's absolutely rapid. And he's tenacious. He's going to go down the left-hand side. He's carried and carried and carried and carried.

54:41Jon Bass:Yeah. It's one of them where sometimes you think, oh, he's going to gas out and he's going to, especially in the Prem, You know, so much talk about strength and, you know, all the rest of it. But he just was strong. He held on to the ball. Just something there. So give him a go. Look, fundamentally, we don't have that many players available. We've got to start trusting these younger players to come in and just contribute. So let's just get behind him and give it a go. Why not? Right then, boys. That has been the Fighting Cop podcast. Thank you very much, Sean Cray. And thank you very much, John Bass.

55:13Jon Bass:Always a pleasure. next time we speak to you we'll either be genuinely like genuinely worried that we're going down or we'll be like yeah we're never going down fuck it injury crisis we'll recover we're going to fucking win the league one of those two things are going to be true in 48 hours right bye bye

55:45Jon Bass:F-I-G-H-T-I-N-G F-I-G-H-T-I-N-G

55:58Jon Bass:We're the fighting cock and we don't give a fuck Like a top draw whore when she don't see bucks Everybody wanna come and run it but they're funny Like a dummy in the barbie of your mommy

56:05Sean Kray:Fighting cock and we don't give a shit Everybody knows flat baits a prick We could get a sticky in the mini sucky willy When you're getting grilly yeah you gotta bag the milli Fight fight
