25Quicker, bring out the good. It's the fighting. It's the fighting. Cock. It's the fighting. It's the fighting. Cock. A camel turn up. Hello and welcome back to the Fighting Cock podcast. And finally, for the first time in 2026, we've got something positive to talk about. But many of you have realised, just in case a couple of Spurs fans might not have realised, we got a 90th minute equaliser against Liverpool. And Richarlison scored it. Now, we were all kind of pessimistic going into this game. We didn't really think we'd get much from it. When was the last time Spurs won at Anfield? I think it was 15 years ago.

18I think you had two wins in 30. like that um and uh ben you you you you were banging the drum hard for spurs getting some sort of result called it you did you did it there called it called it called it called the richardison last minute dagger as well yeah you did i saw that on twitter when did you post that uh so on on saturday night i went to it was my girlfriend's auntie's auntie's 60th birthday yeah and i was chatting with i was there was a load of gooners there and they're all doing the classic thing of just like no you'll be all right you'll be all right the whole kind of like patronizing feeling and i was like i went outside and i was just scrolling my phone it was after i think it was when west and man city was happening i was like checking the score and i just thought you know what i'm just gonna drop this bomb right now i'm just gonna tweet it so i tweeted it while I was there being just like surrounded by gooners being just patted on the back by them and I was like fuck it we are going to get something tomorrow and Richarlison is going to score and it happened it actually happened well so I I don't want to have to I'm not claiming to you know have to be hanging on to your coattails but I also felt like you were with me you were you were we were we were fighting against the tide in the group chat on uh yeah on Saturday night i think spooky said to me it's like you say this literally every game and i was like i know i know but you're a broken a broken clock is uh twice right twice is that yeah twice correct and uh actually it happened this week so it's more than that though it was it there was this weird sort of feeling in our cock yeah that some some something was gonna happen like i was doing um a talk sport sorry clunk name dropping but i was doing a talk sport interview um about three hours, four hours before kickoff.

11Yeah. And they asked, like, we went through all the issues that were going on at Spurs, and then they asked the question, how do you think you'd do it at Liverpool today? And I was just like, for some reason, I've got a feeling we're going to get something from it. And it was based on nothing. Like, because the... Tudor's tenureship at Tottenham Oxford has been... Well, we know what it is. It's been terrible, right? Yeah. We've been pumped everywhere we go. And even when we don't have to go anywhere, at home, we're getting pumped. So there was no reason to be optimistic or bullish about this game.

44But there was something about it that made me think, I think this is, you know, given the history with Richarlison and Liverpool, I just felt like this is football writes these stories, the footballing gods write these stories all the time. And given the fact that, you know, as the game played out, He had opportunities, headers that were just inches away from going in and just over his head. And we were just getting in opportunities consistently throughout the 90 minutes, really. There were times we had to suck up and then sort of sit back and soak up pressure. But when we had opportunities, they were quite dangerous ones.

24And it just was of no surprise, despite my absolute elation when that ball went in. I haven't celebrated a goal like that for ages. Bill Bauer, I think. I generally think that I think the only the only goal I've celebrated that was maybe on par of that this season was Wolves' last minute equaliser against Arsenal a few weeks ago like that's probably about it but yeah it was like it just felt like the sort of stupid thing we'd do would go in after how bad we've been and also I feel like I don't know I don't know how I don't know about you but I felt like with the after the Atletico game that kind of just like did something to me where it was such like a absolute car crash where it kind of just made me regain a little bit of sympathy again and just a little bit of like you know what we've just got to try and draw a line under that and just kind of move past it and you say that you feel like you're sort of saying that after every game because obviously no matter how bad you've been the next game always comes with that little bit of hope and optimism that you might go and get something but it just felt like atletico was so disastrous and we actually but to be fair we actually played okay in that game it just kind of gave me a little bit of a thing going into this weekend of just like let's just cut out all of the negativity as much as we can because we've got and also then like you see Romero and Paulina out for the game so well of course they are and then just that that lack that sort of it felt like there was more of a siege mentality I think kind of going into this one a little bit because no one really expected anything and also the amount of players that we had out that we've had out for ages but everything that's kind of gone wrong this week how it could go wrong I was listening to you on and Jaffan and James was kind of saying like, oh, well, a Spurs bottoming out.

04It's like, is this as bad as it's going to get? And it was like, well, it could obviously get worse, but hopefully that is as disastrous and calamitous as it can get and we can just draw a line under that and say that was such a freak thing where hopefully because of almost, I don't know, it just made me feel sorry for them a little bit, even though they don't deserve it. You know, do you know what I mean? It was just... The Atletico game wasn't, in reality, it wasn't like a tactical malfunction. It was just, perhaps there was an element of a lack of preparation. Maybe that, like in terms of understanding the pitch you're playing on and making sure everyone has the same footwear.

39Because, I mean, I presumed Atletico Madrid wore different boots than they would if they weren't playing on that surface. And why wasn't that an option for Spurs? Or they're just much more used to shifting their weight and running in a certain way on that pitch. means that because Barcelona got absolutely battered there I think it was like 4-0 or something like that yeah and the same thing happened with the goalie making a mistake went under his foot and I've sensed a shift I've sensed a shift from the players but I've also sensed a shift from the supporters because you listen to that away end yesterday and there were moments where it was tense but they were behind them and that goal that Richarlison scored is so important it's huge because, you know, there is things being worked on at Spurs, you know, by the fans and the things that are going to be coming out in a few days that it's really about bringing this football club together and making sure that the players and the fans are on board and we're pulling in the right direction.

45So Lanky did an interview, I think probably before the Liverpool game, might have been. Yeah, I think it was on Wednesday, I think. Right. And he said, you know, we need you. We need you. and they need us and we need them. And you cannot never understand the impact of having as many players out as we had. Like that game before Saturday, sorry, that game on Sunday, that was the worst injury crisis or suspension. It added sort of players not available that I've ever seen at Spurs. We thought it bad for large parts of this season. This was the worst. Yeah. You have 13 players, first team players out.

26And you've got a lineup. I've got Vicario, Spence, Dragoson, Danso and Porro as your back four. You've got Tell on the left, Sar and Gray in the middle. And you've got Souza who's starting his second game for Spurs, is it? Or third game for Spurs? Yeah, he started Palace, didn't he? And then, yeah, I think that's the second, yeah. Playing on the other side of the pitch in a position he's never played on before against Liverpool at Anfield with a front two of Richarlison and Solanke. It was more like a 4-4-1-1 at times. It kind of shifted and whatnot. But to a man, they stood up. And, you know, the options off the bench were just, there was nothing there.

08You had Mawani and Simmons in terms of nothing there on paper. Both players came in. Mawani had a massive impact when he came on. And I thought Simmons was decent as well. And then you've got two kids in LOCC and Roswell is making his debut. Alex Isse came on, he was one part, he's played for Spurs before, hasn't he? Yeah, I think. It wasn't his debut, was it? No, no, yeah. I think he's come, I can't remember what game it was. It might have been a Champions League game. Elspog. Maybe last year. Yeah, I can't remember. He's definitely played for Spurs before, but yeah, like five minutes maybe off the bench or something.

43He actually looked quite tidy, I thought. He was good, yeah. I thought it's, it probably says more about maybe some of our other midfield options, but I thought he was just really comfortable on the ball. He was playing a lot of first-time passes where he wasn't panicking. He was getting up and down the pitch. He wasn't staying on the ball for too long. He was calm. I would start him on Wednesday. I just think because we're probably going to have to... There's a lot to be said about that game and how much it matters or whatever. You want to be able to use any game possible, even if it doesn't have Premier League consequences to use as kind of a building block and a step in the right direction.

14And hopefully, if we can turn that game around, it'd be amazing. but I think it's you're probably going to have to still despite the fact this player's coming back you're probably going to still have to rely on him off the bench here and there between now and the end of the season and I think also with younger players I think the introduction of those guys into this situation just gets the fans on board even more as well because they're not going to no one's going to go for those players they're going to give it everything it's an opportunity for them and we've seen it with well you've seen it this weekend with some like unfortunately for the scum and then even in Gamow yesterday like there is such a fearlessness I think in this kind of current crop of like younger players generally that are coming through in the Premier League that what's the harm in kind of doing it and it just gives the fans a bit more to kind of get behind as well and I thought yeah I thought it was decent well the harm would be is that sort of the Kinski example where they get exposed yeah I think it's different with a goalie though like I think goalies there's always more scrutiny around like mistakes and also like Kinski despite the fact that I think we were probably all aligned on the fact that Atletico like he probably should have been we were all a bit fed up with Vicario so it's like why not and then after the fact he makes it and it's you know all that conversation kind of already been had but he has made mistakes for spurs before kinski like despite the fact we all want him an opportunity but i get what you mean he played he played at the emirates i think and yeah he did yeah and he he come for a punch and missed it completely um you know and like you're right man he's he's he's fearlessness yesterday was was impressive he was probably the best but apart from charlison for obvious reasons and to Bozla as well, to be fair.

42Yeah. He was the best player on the pitch. And that fearless enough of youth, they haven't learned what it's like to fail. They haven't heard the jeers of the crowd. And yeah, maybe you're right. I mean, we have to. We have to. I mean, the game against Forest at the weekend is all important.

00So perhaps Sarr and Gray might need a rest. I don't know whatever it is, but you're going to have to dig deep and play these players. because our bench had seven players compared to Liverpool's nine. You know, you're allotted nine. Two goalkeepers, yeah. Oh, yeah. It's like, mate, it's absolutely fucking mental. Individual performances, Ben. Who did you like? Who stood out? Obviously, Richie, but I feel that it's probably more to be said about him as we kind of go on just because he was, you know, the moment and everything and I think he deserved it. But I thought our best player was Pap Sar. I thought Sar was brilliant.

39I just think that I've said this kind of consistently around when we brought in Conor Gallagher and throughout the season. He started really well under Frank. And I just think he's such an underrated part of our squad. And I actually think yesterday, which is something that we maybe haven't seen as much from him because it's not really been his role under various managers. But I think he showed a lot of calmness when we were trying to play out from deeper areas yesterday. He played a really good ball at the end of the game through to Xavi where we kind of had that chance before the corner that then put all of our hearts in our mouths.

08but he mopped up absolutely everything as well. There were so many situations where they'd be putting us under pressure, balls would go in the box, Dragasin or Danso would sort of like half clear it and then it'd fall. You think it's going to fall to one of their guys on the edge of the box but Sar showed so much composure in those kinds of situations just to bring the ball down, he'd drop his shoulder and then just drive and get us out of it and then play the ball off. Like he just looked like, he didn't look phased by the situation at all and I thought he was really good. Like I just, I thought he was great.

36Gray alongside him again, like so I saw a few tweets from actually finally really from kind of some like rival fans yesterday saying that like it shouldn't go unnoticed what Archie Gray is doing in this in this plight for Tottenham like he has been a bit of a shining light and it's so good to kind of see him getting his flowers again just a calmness on the ball a lot of the time as well made some good tackles I don't think it was his best game that he's necessarily had in this little mini run where he's been outstanding in certain games but again just another quietly decent seven out of ten performance which is what you want from him like we've not had that in midfield for so long yeah and and and not not just from fans from outside but but from Spurs fans I think we're starting to wake up to as well I mean it's taken me a while to get there you can see like last season he got many plaudits for his calmness and his willingness to play out a position and in a really difficult side the difficult you know circumstances you know without our central back pairing in a system that exposes centre-backs and full-backs, that he was, you know, his willingness to just go out there and do it.

41And he played, I think he had 18 games or something like at centre-back last year. Yeah. And even this season, playing left wing-back, right wing-back, full-back, you know, he is a midfielder. You can tell by the way he plays, his gait and the way he strikes the ball that midfield is definitely where he is. He's so intelligent. He reads, he's constantly, if you watch it off the ball which is difficult to do as you're a fan of a football club watching your own team is you're just focused on the ball and where it's going and how likely it is we're going to score a goal but he's scanning constantly yeah just reading the pitch and downloading information and just thinking like what do i do next what position do i need to be in and i think we've got a star there like if if we stay up and i'm gonna get your opinions on how you feel right now but yeah if we stay up he's really someone we can build apart build build something to be a part of and i think a lot of criticism from him or a lack of respect probably is a better way of describing it is because he looks so young and people assume that he's immature and he can't be involved in the game whereas it's just not true you can see he's growing into it and i was listening to um the high performance podcast with ian graham who i'm a massive fan of him he's i've mentioned his book a few times about uh he wrote a book called how how to win the premier league and it was basically about how data has become such an important part of of um of a player's understanding a player and understanding their role in the team and understanding when buying a player what you actually should be looking for it's listen to the book some of it's quite heavy going it can be dry at times because it is you're talking about data and statistics but It's fascinating because you combat opinion and the eye test with dry data.

34And both of those things are really important. Character is something you can't see in terms of statistics. Yeah. But Archie Gray just shows everything you need from a player that young in the Premier League. He's not scared. He never hides from the ball. and one of the things that Ian Graham was saying in this podcast was that when buying a player 24 is kind of like a peak like a pinch point it's like a perfect time to look at whether or not you should sign a player and the reason for that is that you from from 24 onwards you start to really see the kind of player that you're going to get and for him to be four years off that is is insane yeah with so much experience as well like under his belt at this point and it's like with players like you hear it with so many kind of ex-pros all the time where they you can do whatever you want in training and we've already heard loads of things about what he's like on the training pitch and how he sets an example at such a young age but you know that doesn't necessarily guarantee development the only way that you're going to develop as a player is playing games and the fact that he's kind of gone through so much lived turbulence kind of already is probably going to help him as a player by the time he actually gets to that point.

50It's probably similar to Bergvall as well. Bergvall had his flowers and his moments last year because of the injuries and the fact that he didn't show any real fear when he played. It's the same with Gray. You think about where those two are going to be by the time... We were saying about Saar just before. I think Saar is 23, 24. He's five years older than Gray. We think we've got a decent player in there, but I just think when Gray gets to that point, and when Bergvall, if he's hopefully still here, gets to that point as well, like what that could then do, what that can then do for them. It's, it's, it's, yeah, it's huge.

22Did you just say, so, what did you say was five years older than, I think SARS like 20. Well, Gray's just, sorry, Gray's just turned 20, I think, isn't he? Like literally just turned 20. I think SARS 24. He's 24 in September. Oh, right. Okay. So 23. So he's still got a few years on him. It's like, I was, I was, yeah, yeah, fair. I was, I was kind of on, I've been on the fence with SARS for a little bit. like you see his quality and you see there is a player in him i wondered like about his physical stature or whether or not he that he's right for the premier league in his build um i was i did a thing i'm doing it again i'm not going to say what i did but it was for on another show and what i was asked to do was like keep or sell in terms of our squad and the one the one player that i was on the fence most with was Sarr because I don't necessarily feel like we've seen enough from him to absolutely guarantee that he's part of the movement to take us forward as a football entity but then you see what happened yesterday I just think like like you said I know you mentioned it earlier but he just he was he was just really good every time he caught the ball he's like something happened like he's I don't know if you have seen his um stats he's passing stats um but He had like 83 % passing accuracy, 39 out of 47 passes were accurate.

42In the opposition half, which is the key part, 24 out of 28, 86%. When you have problems building attacks and scoring goals and being offensive and making the other team think and worry about what you can possibly do, putting up those kind of stats, 24 and 28 accurate passes in their half, was, yeah, I mean, you can't deny it. And you look at their team, mate. Like, Alisson, Sir Bozlai, like, he's his class, by the way. Yeah, he's mustard. Joe Gomez is probably the outlier as one of their weaker players. And Andy Robertson is aging, but, you know, still. It's been better recently as well. Like, he's kind of come back into the team a little bit and shown how important that he still is.

27Yeah, Van Dijk is a centre-back. And you've got McAllister and Graven Birch as the two in midfield. And the front four is Rio, Verts Frimpong out of position but you could interchange Sir Bozzi and Frimpong and he was fine yesterday and obviously the big one that they all hate is Gagpo they absolutely fucking hate him it's so funny they just all think that slots like they're almost like in a relationship those two they absolutely hate him but that's them making five changes as well yeah because on the bench you've got Eketike you've got Kiesa Salah Curtis Jones it's you know Kerkhez who didn't play Kanate didn't play it's ridiculous yeah my point I'm making here is that the challenges for Tottenham Oxford to go into this game and compete and the fact that they did should be commended in a massive way at a time where we desperately needed that I didn't think we get anything of it and we were all looking towards the Forest game and hoping that would be the one the fact that we got a point out of this was that I can't tell you have important days.

Tune in Tuesday, March 17th at 6.30pm and 9pm only on ESPN and the ESPN app. Yeah, I don't, you know, people say yesterday a lot of the narrative afterwards was about Liverpool Liverpool as it obviously is going to be and how poor they were and slot and all those kind of things to go there to Anfield with the quality of players that they're still be able to being able to put on the pitch regardless of whether they're playing anywhere near as well as our season or not is irrelevant to the point when you look at Spurs having 14 first team players out or whatever but our injured team would comfortably beat our current available team that's not it's not a question it's just that deserves so much credit and it was actually to be fair it was nice to see Roy King sticking up for us a bit yesterday and saying that there's been a lot of questions over Spurs' fight.

33I do think sometimes with the whole thing about fight and have they got the bottle for it, sometimes those can be a bit lazy throwaway words when there are bigger issues at play as well in terms of the actual quality of what we're seeing as well. But it was nice to have that someone in your corner a little bit because we have been hammered, rightly so. But yeah, it is so big. I think Kevin Danso as well is someone that's definitely worth talking about. I think Dragasin's come in for a lot of crap yesterday, which I think is, to be honest, I don't rate Dragasin. I think it was a poor bit of business from Spurs.

07It didn't really necessarily make sense at the time because of what we wanted with our centre-backs from Ange in terms of playing out from the back. He's shown that he can't do that. And yesterday, I think more so than ever really, him and Vicario. But he did make a couple of big blocks and defended the box okay. But like Danso mopped up and matone for a lot of errors that Spurs were kind of making. Bodies on the line. I just think there is a bit of a conversation to be had around, you know, Forrest and next week when Romero and Van der Ven are back available, whether Spurs go to a three with those three or Danso keeps his place if Spurs go to a four.

43Because I think there's a few players yesterday, and there's others to obviously talk about in terms of how well they played, but who don't deserve to, who, sorry, who deserve to keep their place. I think Danso was just like, that is one of the best, despite the fact that at times he's also, he's not an amazing setback and he's shown that with certain mistakes that he's made even though it's been, they're few and far between. Like he is a, that was a good bit of business, Kevin Danso. And I think he's someone that will stand up for Tottenham now. Like it was a big thing when we learned that him and Poro were kind of coming back from injury, I think it was before the Fulham game, that those were two that, despite the fact that we've got better players than both of those two out injured and still do you know you're going to get something from those two especially Danso in terms of fighting I think yeah you had more clearances more headed clearances more like um sort of shot saving tackles than anybody yesterday it was just a a warrior kind of performance that we so desperately needed bear in mind there's been so much scrutiny around our centre-backs yeah I I it's tricky for me to talk about Danso because I've been a little a little bit critical of him in recent games.

45And I feel like I've been really emotional about Spurs. Yeah, but everyone has as well. I just think, I don't rate Danso as a defender as highly as maybe some others do. I think there's, you know, even when we were okay, like earlier on in the season, I think there were people that were saying that Danso should start over Romero because the whole Romero thing's been a conversation the whole time about how much people actually like him or rate him. I just think stuff like that's nonsense. But like, he played well yesterday. He's had bad games for Spurs, but he did play well yesterday. It's like a lot of them.

15It's like we've sat here and slagged off basically every single player that was on that pitch and said that they're not good enough and say that they don't care and all these kind of things because you're angry and you're emotional as a fan. That's completely normal. But yeah, I think he's someone that we're going to need, I think, whether it's in a four at the back or a three at the back. I just think that he deserves to probably keep his place. Yeah. Another player I've slagged off ad nauseum is Richarlison. we've all been there I feel like I've been strong on it maybe maybe needlessly so it's easy to say now because I again on this show that I did where I had to pick between players to keep and players to let go I actually said we should keep Richarlison and that is beyond this season such as how flip floppy I've been on him actually it hasn't been flip floppy I hated his guts and now I love him to bits.

13It just shows you how little you should listen to me whenever I have an opinion about football because I'm more emotional than most people, I think. I just, what you need right now for the situation we're in is desire, fight and a willingness to just not give up. And he has all of those things. And I've been completely disrespectful of it. But when you're sort of third in the league and you see his failings, where fight isn't necessarily as quality you want and unity, not unity, but functioning in the unit and the cohesion between the players, that hasn't been there and perhaps been too critical because your elevation of what you think you deserve as a fan when you're in the top four and you're going for things, it changes and suddenly you go, well, that player's not good enough.

05And now we are in an awful situation and now I'm going is exactly what we need like how dare I for what it's worth I did put out a tweet yesterday going I'm sorry for everything I said about you it wasn't just a goal Ben it weren't just a goal he had five opportunities on goal four on target there were times in this season we couldn't get one shot across the squad and as depleted as we were Richarlison with the help of his teammates managed to get five shots on goal and four of them hit the target. On his own, in terms of the shots on target, there was an extra year of 1.44. Yeah. Yeah, he deserved that goal, 100%.

50Oh, mate, and he loved it. He made some... There were certain points in the game where maybe he made some poorer decisions or whatever, but you're never going to get that from Richarlison in terms of like... There was one in the first half where we won the ball back in midfield and Tell was in and he decided to try and slip it through to Solanke and got it completely wrong rather than playing in Tell. But you know Richie's not going to always give you that, but what he is always going to give you is a presence in the box like you said we always seem to just create more chances when he's on the pitch like we just do he's he's got that presence in and around the box where it probably encourages players more to put crosses in because they're more likely that they feel like they're going to get something from it um you know he had a lot he had that header from the set piece he had that header just before where he was kind of leaning back and he did actually well to kind of steer that as close to the target as he did and like you said it's totally it's totally circumstantial but I've been in the same boat as you where I don't feel like there's a player at the football club's reputation that kind of almost fluctuates as much as his in terms of like we've got to sell this guy to actually he's probably the first name on the team sheet at the moment like he's like that we he is one of those players you fall out of love with him as quickly as you fall in love with him but that's more in the context of Spurs you know when when we think we're not doing as well as we should be we should be a club that's competing in the Champions League and trying to eventually get to the point where we're competing for titles.

07Richie's not going to do that. He can be a squad player that might come off the bench and give you 10 goals a season, which is in itself incredibly valuable. And I think he showed that at the start of the season as well, where there was then a conversation about who should be the number one, him or Solanke when Richarlison started really well. But with this current situation that we're in now, if you were building an 11 of years gone by of players that you'd want to get out of a relegation battle, you'd probably put Richarlison up front in that team for what he did for Everton. He dragged Everton along with the fans and there's other contributing factors as well.

40But he was the spearhead that did that. And we're in this situation now. He's got the stomach for it. He's been there. He's got that lived experience where not many of our other players do. West Ham and Forest do have that because they've been in that situation themselves and got themselves out of it. We need a player to be able to turn through that knows exactly what it's like to go through what we're going through at the moment. and he did you know we all had the same anxiety when he was celebrating as much as he did because we've seen it at Anfield before where he took his top off jumps into the away and then they go and score straight away so when they were counter-attacking as they did after that corner the flashbacks were at the Vietnam level of just like oh my fucking god not again but added Richarlison but and he probably gave it when he celebrated as well didn't he he went to the camera he did this sort of like pose the camera was right on it and obviously the photography from that moment has been superb we used to be on it we've used, I don't know who took this shot.

32It is insane. It's on the thumbnail of this episode. Great phone background, that, isn't it? Yes, perfectly. With the Kenny Dalglish stand behind it. It was just, it was superb. You look at Mwani's face, he's grinning from ear to ear. Actually, it was really good. Yeah, it was good. He had 15 minutes to change the game and he was a big part of that forward momentum. His assist was quality. Like the way he just like, he won the duel and then the way he sort of juggled to bring it down. Yeah, the way he juggled to bring it down and then just the kind of perfect timing of the pass as well. There was a weird sort of hesitation when the ball was dropping and he sort of like lunged but then pulled back and made Robertson react.

17In the first instance, I thought, oh, he's gone in with his arm or something like that but he was nowhere near him. Yeah. And he's taken the ball and gone across and then at that moment, you know, it was all fans. you just light up and go, please, please. And then it happened. Such a Richarlison finish as well. Yeah, he was sort of scuffed. Scuffed a little bit into the bottom corner, but you take that. Did you think it was a penalty on Richie from Van Dijk? So I've spoken about this earlier. It depends how you look at it, which is ridiculous. Yeah. My answer is no. Yeah. But given the level of which red cards and penalties have been given in the last month, then yes.

58100%. Yeah, I totally agree. Yeah. Yeah. So you had Van der Ven. I don't think any of us thought that that wasn't a foul or a red card. The Le Croix on Cunha was ridiculous. Yeah, way softer than this as well. Way, way softer. It was like a... It's like he had his arm on his shoulder. Cunha's gone down, bought it. VAR, I've looked at it. No, no, VAR didn't look at it, actually. The referee just pulled out his card, I think. Yeah. I can't remember exactly. No, I think he did. Yeah, I think you're right. But for this one, Van Dijk was all over him. Now, what I would say is all over him in the context of the modern game is one thing.

41They were fighting for a ball. Because the ball was on Richarlison's side, it doesn't mean that Van Dijk can't compete with him to try and win the ball back or put him off. I don't have an issue with it not being given. I do have an issue when, when, when Van der Venn is being sent off and when moreover, uh, Lacroix has been sent off. Yeah. And then, then you start to actually sort of think about what people have said to you and what you're hearing on Twitter. And it's like, there's some sort of conspiracy against Tottenham or they just want us to go down. I don't believe any of that's true. I think it's bullshit, but one of these evidence that they can use.

20Yeah. It's, that's the thing. It's like, that's what made getting a point there even more satisfying. Cause I do, I do, I do agree. Like, I was watching the game with my stepdad and he was like that's a fucking penalty I was like my thing straight away was like I don't know he's not like when you think about what the rules are he has to hold his shirt has he exactly I think if he's pulling him or he's grabbing his shirt then I think if Richardson goes down I think that's definitely a penalty but he's kind of just got his arm across him and I was like I was like nah when they showed the replay I was like no but then you go to Twitter and then you see people talking about the Lacroix one it pops straight back into your mind you were like yeah that's ridiculous and it's been basically every single game under Tudor so far that we've been fucked over by multiple refereeing decisions it's just like ridiculous so it doesn't matter whether there is conspiracy or not there is they're getting consistently wrong when it comes to Spurs yeah and we're in the state we're in I was speaking to Ricky the other day and he went I do I think they've got everything I think they're against us against us and this is what he's turning everything into just on that in terms of going down based on that performance yesterday how much hope has it given you Ben?

30A lot to be fair a lot it doesn't guarantee anything it's not the end of anything it's just hopefully the start of something and the most important thing that we need and didn't have prior to that game that the other three teams that are in this Forest Leeds and West Ham have got is collectiveness, togetherness, spirit and they're actually putting performances together we've had absolutely none of that And look, we had a performance against Man City that didn't then lead to anything. But this does feel different now because it's under a new manager, it's got worse under a new manager, and you're going away from home at Anfield where we'd never, ever win and everything kind of seems to go against us.

08And I think to do it in the last minute in the way that we did with all of the players that we're missing, that ragbag of a team, I just think that that has to give the players something, that has to give the fans something. And also, you kind of alluded to earlier, in terms of so many conversations going on at the moment, in terms of the Forest game and after that and really making sure that we're kind of there for the players to know that we're fully behind them. We weren't there when we drew to Man City. We all thought that we could maybe get sucked into it, but we weren't almost favourites to go down, which has kind of been the narrative over the course of the last week.

42So it has to do something. It absolutely has to do something and give you that belief. It's just nice to wake up on a Monday morning and not just feel dread about the next game. It's just that lift that is given absolutely everyone means that you're going to, like you said about the away fans earlier, the away fans have been brilliant all season. I've been to most of the games. I was at Fulham a few weeks ago when we were dreadful up until like the 20 minutes or so in the second half. And that was amazing that day. So the fans have always been there. When you say it's amazing, explain to people because lots of people who listen to this wouldn't have been in a way.

12Just in terms of just like the noise, when we got that goal back against Fulham and even before that, like there was a bit of, you know, obviously in the first half when we went 2-0 down, there was a few like you're not fit to wear the shirt and people were booing and not happy and all that kind of stuff but when we got that goal back when Richie scored that was one of the loudest away-ins I think I've been in in a very long time in terms like we are You can't always hear it on the TV No, that's true Yeah, but it was quality and I just think that those fans have been there but if it's going to now make fans at home where the atmosphere hasn't been as great like there's obviously kind of plans for Forrest in terms of really trying to make it a fortress kind of cut final atmosphere type thing if it just makes people sing that a little bit louder not like if we go 1-0 down get behind the players rather than just kind of all those kind of things it has such a ripple effect on like the attitude around the football club we just need some we needed something to see needed something to get behind and I think it has to be that yesterday and I think most Spurs fans are waking up this morning thinking that yeah we definitely we definitely can get out of this those home games are absolutely huge and we've got a decent set of fixtures coming up that we can kind of make a bit of a dent into getting out of this with players coming back as well which is you know Closer to the horizon than it was six weeks ago when this kind of all, I guess, first started, I guess.

26It has to do something positive. It has to.

49No, we're playing Atletico. Oh, Wednesday, yeah, yeah. So this is in terms of players due back. A dog is due back on the 18th. Yeah. Which is the game. Yeah, the game is Atletico Madrid. Obviously, Van Averen's back. Conor Gallagher is back. And then against Forrest, we've got Paulina back, Romero back. and then we're into the early part of April where you're thinking Kudus and Bergeval, which should be enough to change things. And given the fact we've got a three-week break after the Forest game. Yeah, I think Kudus is so big. Like Bergeval obviously as well because it gives you more technical quality in midfield and another youngster that's going to play with a bit more bravery and stuff.

38And just another option off the bench as well. But Kudus, especially with Richarlison at the moment, And I kind of wanted to, even with Tell yesterday, I didn't think it was necessarily Tell's best game, but the desire that he shows and the effort and the ability to kind of keep going. And also, above anything, he just puts a decent cross in. And if you've then got Tell on the left, Kudus on the right, who we know his quality of delivery can be really good for Tottenham, and you've actually got a striker in the box in Richardson who can find a bit of a yard, you don't have to play the most amazing football in the world.

12but if you've got actually two outlets down those wings coming back or able to, sorry, play together with Kudas coming back after the international break, even just that can make a massive difference just for creating chances, scoring goals. Like those two, I think, are so big. Just on Tell. Yeah. Actually, before I give you my opinion on Tell, this is like tenderhooks, I'm going to remind people that the Fighting Cocky is backed by Saley. 43:21Stay connected wherever you go. Yeah, tells in difficult circumstances in a flat four across the midfield where you're having to do defensive work as much as you have to think about your attacking options. he turned up and he continues to turn up and when you're in a relegation dogfight do you want players that are shy or don't want the ball Teo wants the ball all the time yeah like we've said this through Frank's tenureship and during the end of the the season last year where you just thought the player just wants the ball and he wants to attack and he wants to drive and in a better team which Spurs hopefully will become you have a player there you can really sort of latch onto.

09I just, I think he's, I think he's good. I think his ceiling's high and I want to see what he can do. I really do. Even from like, even his set piece delivery, like you feel a lot more, which kind of makes it even more baffling that Frank didn't use him more because he can actually put a really decent crossing from open play or from set pieces. What was, what, do you remember the interview he did? Yeah. Like on a podcast, which can't go down well with the sort of hierarchy at Tottenham or whatever. And he just said they had a fallout and he should have been playing more. And we all thought he should be playing more.

41Yeah. He was using Odebeer, which is fine. He's another young player. But it's almost like he trusted Odebeer more than Tell. Tell feels like more of a maverick, more mercurial, which is why a risk-averse manager like Thomas Frank might have an issue. But yeah, I just think he's a player that we can really rely on. Yeah, agreed. yeah it's there's a bunch of players that deserve to kind of keep their place off the back of yesterday but I think Tell is definitely one I just think he's also like even with the podcast interview that he did do which like you said might not have gone down well with the people at the club it is going to be another thing that kind of gets fans on side with a player that you know we've always kind of said has been deserving of more opportunities than he's been given and you need that collectiveness and togetherness moving forward and I just think that he never hides like you said always shows for the ball and despite the fact that I don't think he he didn't really get the better of Sobber Sly yesterday like in terms of 1v1 or anything but it was more the consistent desire to keep going and his ability to get the ball in the box and when you've got a striker like Richie who feeds off of that service that's what we need we just need to it's as simple when Sean Dyke said you need to put the ball in that net and keep the ball out the other one having weapons like that that can just create chances out of nothing even if you're not playing the most free-flowing football makes a huge difference where we are right now It does It does indeed so before the game started I was like there's no world a week from now Trudor has a job after that game I was like I saw enough in that that maybe you should manage it towards the end of the season yeah if we get beat by Forrest I'll be going why didn't we sack him a week ago we're all in these sort of weird sort of emotional situations where we're looking at anything that's happening and making rash decisions and you'd think the owners of the football club or the power brokers at the football club shouldn't be rash.

38I'm inclined to just go, let's see what he can do. Yeah, I think so. I think this is the... I was the same as you. I was off the back of the Palace game. I was like, I think we probably need to make a change, go and get someone that knows the club, knows the players, all those kind of things. I wasn't necessarily massively pro-rednap or anything like that, but I was like, I think that's what needs to happen now to kind of give that bit of love to the players and actually have a manager on the sidelines that the fans feel that can get behind. But I think, you know, this is the first bit of momentum that we've had in weeks.

13Yeah. And I just think it would be silly now to make that rash change off the back of yesterday. If we don't play well against Forest and it all goes tits up and you've then got two or three weeks in the international break to make a change off the back of that, then you might as well roll the dice there if they feel like that's the right thing to do. Can you trust them to make the right decision? I don't know but we're all in this kind of state of panic at the moment where we don't really know what that there's no perfect option out there so I think it would be silly at this point to make the change I think we lost it no sorry mate keep losing you there Ben sorry mate it would be yeah it would be silly to make the change I think at this point off the back of yesterday Mrs booted up porn up is she yeah I think so I think so she'd never I know every single night is that really I know it's just too much I need to have a word yeah enough porn hub puts a child lock on for me and then 4 to 4 in the afternoon she's booting it up it's outrageous it is outrageous I think we've got a couple of questions but before I quickly I just I almost don't want to bring this up but you kind of have to because Vicaria should have done better for Sir Bosley's free kick like everyone was banging Sir Bosley he's done it again you're like he hasn't done it again he's hit a shot on target that's all that's happened it's just our goalkeeper didn't fucking do what he's supposed to do I know I saw two really funny tweets from like football Twitter accounts side by side that were like that was an unstoppable free kick from Sobbersly and then one literally under it was like how has Vicario not saved that I was like it was right down the middle of the goal and that's his forte right that's the bit he does right yeah and he gets a good hand to it as well I just don't want to I don't I think right now you can have a conversation but I don't know when we've got a point in Anfield that we didn't expect to get a performance where we've outperformed them in terms of shots on target.

12Attacking prowess was similar. They couldn't break us down. The only way they managed to break us down was for a free kick. They had a couple of opportunities. I think they had a couple of opportunities where they could have done better but I don't think it's quite... But that was kind of more as we opened up though in the second half. I think they had counter-attacking opportunities they wasted, but it's because we were trying to get back in the game. Like you said, I don't think there's any point in hammering Vacario at this point. We all know what the issue is. We all know he should have saved it.

45If we'd have lost the game, then there's maybe more of a conversation. Also, football doesn't work in the way that if that doesn't go in, we win the game 1-0. It happened 16 minutes in or so. There was so much more that could have happened in between that. On another day, they score another goal. It is what it is. I don't trust him. I don't like him, but we've got, yeah. There was a period in that second half where it was just mayhem, wasn't it? It was just like, they went at us, we went forward, they come back and we showed like really sort of brave, like brave performance. It really was. It's like, I know we have to get something from this and to go, I think most Spurs fans looking at this game before it started might have gone, they might have gone, do you know what?

26A 1-0 loss, goal difference, you know we'll probably take it yeah the fans the players didn't behave like that at all they really went for it it was good stuff a couple of questions before we end here on Twitter it says Spurs Spurs in Spain if the relegation battle went down to the last game of the season who are you choosing to score the all important goal to keep us up and why I think Richie especially with Pye and Everton they'll probably let him do it if they're not lucky if they can't get Europe or whatever they probably just go and can't it'll be like the Man City QPR game where City got that equaliser and then they just QPR just kicked the ball back or kicked the ball out of play to let them attack again so hopefully yeah Richie or like could you imagine if James Madison came back for that game and just whipped a free kick in top corner in the last minute to keep us up he's been out for the whole season but he gets his moment the main man at the roast dinner just whipping in a free kick to keep us up we've got him down on Premier League injuries as returning on the 1st of June.

32Brilliant. So, impossible. Okay. When I say returning to the 1st of June, I don't know, what will he do? What about if it was like two all last minute and we needed to win? Vicario's got injured before the game. Kinski's in net that game and he goes up for the corner and heads in after everything that's happened. So, imagine in a realistic sense, we've got our players back. Yeah. Right? and we have what's the last game Everton at home Everton at home yeah right and the ball drops in the midfield to Bereval and he plays it through to that player who is one on one with a goalkeeper if you could choose anyone who would it be as in like who would I who would I want it to be or who would I back to score the most aren't those the same thing right yeah but like yeah I suppose so I was thinking more like if who would you want romantically in order to guarantee we stay up who would you pin your hopes on probably

37I don't know like Richie in a 1v1 situation is very different to like Richie having a cross curled into the box where you feel like he might get on the end of it like maybe tell you know like as a 1v1 I don't know that's really tough well yeah I mean that's tough that's tough well probably pick one Rich Arlison fuck it I don't think we've got that many good like 1v1 finishes at the club I think Tell's not a bad shout I think his confidence is youthful Zubrin will take it past the keeper and just slide it in if I could pick anyone though like in terms of what the situation would be obviously Richie but like I'd love Archie Gray to score the goal that keeps us up yeah the romantic on the edge of the box and it's just like a I don't know corner comes in or whatever gets headed away and he's just there and he just catches it so sweetly last minute out of all the players that deserve it.

29I think it's him or Richie probably. Yeah. And Callum Bradker says, how good is Kevin Danso? Yep, we talked about that. And Chris B says, Flav, when you're getting Richarlison's face tattooed on his body, the amount of people have messaged me. I don't know why, you know, we've just experienced a magical moment in relative terms when it comes to the Premier League and Tottenham Hotspur this season. And why I'm now getting abuse for saying stuff about Richarlison. I get it. I understand it, but not my fault. No, it's his fault. Yeah, it is his fault.

10Who else? Someone said, would you keep Danso in ahead of Van der Ven? No. Yeah. This is also very much dependent on whether like, because you could, if we get, when we get Romero, Van der Ven and Danso back, you could see Tudor going back to a three. so I think it might almost be a non-conversation I think with that yeah fair but I'm not sure Ben would you this is a question from GS and he says Spurs Spurs stay up you have to have a chalice's hair permanently for the rest of your life the rest of your life just like dyed blonde afro on your very Caucasian head

53that'd be a look yeah it'd be a statement yeah fuck it why not I'm not that's not me saying I'm going to do it but I probably would if you offer me that right now I'd probably do that you get used to it after a while like it's like any haircut you just get used to it and people will be like oh yeah she's got a blonde like blonde dyed like little mini afro thing I'll be like yeah fuck it why not and final question mate Gary Bradley he says been confirmed that Atletico's Madrid goalkeeper and captain Oblak is out of our Champions League game can we I'm going to tweet that picture right now the yes we can I'm going to go again I mean if that is confirmed is it confirmed do you know that yeah I saw that earlier how do you what do you mean you saw that earlier I would never have known that information until like two minutes before kickoff same way that guy did I just saw it on Twitter I think spend less time on social media Ben I know mate I know I worry about your mental health I've got brain rot but it's alright because as long as it's to be fair the most amount of content I've consumed has been gym skin but then it was just the odd post I didn't see that was him was Oblak is out for the game I love a bit of gym skin mate he's an absolute legend drop the shoulder drop the shoulder alright Ben you're a legend mate this has been the Fighting Cook podcast we will be back after Atleti game if you want to hear more of this stuff then you can come patreon.com forward slash the Fighting Cook Up the Spurs.

For the first time in 2026, we’ve actually got something positive to talk about. We look back at Tottenham’s dramatic late equaliser at Anfield, Richarlison’s big moment, and why this point could matter far beyond just the table. We talk about the injury crisis, the performances of Sarr, Archie Gray, Danso and Tell, and whether there are finally signs of fight, belief and togetherness in this Spurs side. Plus, we touch on the fans, the atmosphere building around Forest, and whether this could be the result that gives us a chance.
