In short
Tottenham’s summer rebuild and whether “optimism is back,” focusing on new signings, owner/board statements, and the roles of key decision-makers under De Zerbi.
Guests
The episode is a fan Q&A-style discussion with two main hosts (Rick and Flav) plus occasional references to other Spurs fans (e.g., a Liverpool fan Chris Pajak; a Bournemouth contact about Senesi; a Bournemouth/Palace-related “Doogie Friedman” mention). No formal guest identities are given beyond these hosts.
Key claims
- Robertson is a leadership/winner signing for 30–35 games, not a legs-gone disaster; Senesi is a high-quality passer (slower but strong).
- The Charrington and Lewis family statements matter because they commit to operational change and create accountability after a near-relegation season.
- Communication about the reported £100m cash injection is unclear; it may have been used to service debts rather than direct transfers.
- Langer (sporting director) is viewed as most culpable; Venkatesham should empower football experts rather than make footballing decisions.
Notable examples
- Robertson/Senesi deals reportedly tied to staying up.
- Through-ball attacking patterns under De Zerbi (e.g., attempts to Richarlison vs Chelsea).
- Lowest low: Forest home loss (3-0). Highest: Etihad win 2-0 early season.
- Debate on potential targets (Gibbs-White, Savinho, Somerville) and striker needs (Solanke/Richarlison situation).

0:29Shit I didn't see the recording there You little pig
0:36the fight cock carries on it's the summer because there's shit loads to talk about yeah boy after fucking everyone I know after everyone are we Ricky it's getting everyone got two for the door running we I know Jesus Christ will we just stop signing people yeah I mean more more more all of them what do you think about Andy Robinson and St. Nisi's signing? I think they're good. Really good signings, to be fair. I think the signing of Robertson is, you know, we have spoken across the season about leadership, about lack of characters, personality, winners, know-how. He's been there. He's done it all.
1:32and then some when we were linked on the 23rd of January 2026 I sent a message to my mate who's a Liverpool fan Chris Pajak oh yeah yeah and I said is there any world where this Robinson deal is good for Spurs and he said I love him mate he's not the player of two or three years ago but obviously but I don't think he's finished I reckon he'll be good for 30 to 35 games a season just not 50 plus he's also a fucking winner great in the dressing room you'll love him mate I'm genuinely good oh yeah people say his legs are gone they're wrong not lost a yard yet but not all not the all action Duracell bunny he was either so is that good that sounds good yeah I mean Udogi he has about the same amount of games in him a season yeah it's just it's frustrating because there's a player there and when he plays you really notice it but you just can't go keep going on through seasons after season without good cover for him because you know he is going to get injured and even if he's if even if it's not for for that he's injured that he does you know if you're playing in a demanding role like he is where he's expected to get up and down the pitch you're going to need to sub him off in the second half And without anyone, like a natural left-sided player that will still kind of hold that line and hold that width.
3:02And like Spencer's done a fantastic job coming in and playing at left back. He really has. And I can't knock him. But we do lose that width and those overlapping runs when we don't have a natural sided left fullback there. so and like we've already said about all this all the kind of um traits that robertson has he will be most welcome in the dressing room most welcome yeah man there's a lot going on what do you believe do you believe the um what did no what did you make of the statements that came out obviously peter chariton put out a statement pretty much saying yeah we need to fix everything we know everything's gone tits up yeah um and uh yeah we're gonna make everything better and the Lewis family put it out and said yeah the problems were deeper than before but we're going to fix this we're going to throw loads of money out of it reportedly there's a sum of money that's been allocated with to be able to spend before player sales sales are taken into account typically under Daniel Levy would have we would have looked to raise that money before spending it yeah whereas uh the Lewis family have maybe it's that 100 million they injected in that's now available to spend.
4:14I don't know. I don't know how we can spend$150 million now where under Daniel Levy, we couldn't spend$150 million. I don't know what has changed. But the thing I like about it, and I don't think you agree with me, because in the groups, none of you agree with me. But I think that the statements are important because they're putting on account their attention to change the way the club operates. Whereas Daniel Levy didn't even speak, apart from one or two letters to the fans a year, which was a load of bollocks and non-committal. It was generally explaining, look at all the good stuff we've done this year, despite everyone feeling horrible about the club.
5:03They're saying, no, this has to change, and these are the things we're going to do. If then, in a year, they don't happen, then you have something to go you said you were going to do it and you haven't done it so that then enables thousands of people to mobilize because there's a clear problem there you said you were going to do something and you haven't done it therefore the protest would be meaningful rather than this general sort of anti-Daniel Levy anti-Yenick message where most people weren't able to get on board with bar a couple of this um bar a couple of times where a few thousand turned up it's almost like you've made a commitment to do something now so let's see it and that is important they could have said nothing at all and then there'd be nothing to get behind other than a general dis disenchantment with the way things are going or they may actually say what they're going to do and do what they say both of those things are those things are positive from where we've been previously that's where i was getting at the other state right i gave up Sure.
6:09But you can't really, after a second season finishing 17th, and literally on the brink of being relegated, not come out and communicate after that. Yeah, right. Correct. Right. You just have to, no matter, even if it's platitudes or whatever. And yeah, Charrington and the Lewis family are going to be singing from the same hymn sheet. uh they're going to have obviously their comms are going to align on what they're saying maybe slightly different slightly different roles whatever but it's time to kind of um you know put up or shut up really we've i mean you know you know the 100 100 mil cash injection or something like that did did the club i can't even remember now did the club communicate that that's what they had available or was it just a bit hearsay or or it was published in some finances or something like that.
7:09There was an official statement. I think they have to when that much money is injected. There was an official statement of 100 million has been put in by the owners into the club. It wasn't like, here's 100 million for transfers. It might have been 100 million to play off what we already owe. It's just cash in the bank, basically. Obviously, as fans, we're just like, that's 100 million we're going to spend on transfers, but it probably wasn't that. Okay, so they didn't come out and say, we've got 100 mil cash injection and it is no directly for transfers no it's just a statement to the shareholders and business that this has happened it's not it wasn't like here's 100 million for a war chest right okay but but by the same token if it was used because we owe tons of money out up front so sorry tons and tons of money to on players we've already bought yeah like massive amounts to hundreds of millions of pounds on players that we already own that we still owe to other clubs similar to most clubs actually most clubs have that like many west dam have about 190 million pound owed to other football clubs right now shit spurs is about 270 something like that i can't remember ben better chelsea's is like you can imagine how big it's not uncommon to do that but you have to service those debts so say that 100 million pound was put into paying debts owed to other clubs that's still effectively money that we eventually get to spend in a transfer market because that that it means we don't remove money in the future from having to have to pay for these debts you know i mean yeah yeah so yeah yeah or maybe it was used for 100 the 100 million maybe it is now what we're seeing if players come through the door if Savinia is bought for 50 million.
8:55Maybe that's part of it. Maybe it was the Satisfied PS5. There wasn't clear communication. That was what it was. Yeah. I mean, I kind of feel like that the statements were... They absolutely had to come out and say something because it was just an abomination of a season. Yeah, definitely. Definitely. So do you not take them on face value or do you just simply not believe them, which is absolutely fair? Yeah, I kind of, I mean, the camp at the moment is of I don't believe them because there has been no reason for me to believe that they are going to fulfill that.
9:40And I do think it's interesting that it's kind of like we, we as in the Lewis family, Chankton, didn't understand or know the kind of the depths of how bad things were going or how bad the club was being run. You know, I don't think they said how bad the club was being run, but maybe that it was more focused. The depth of the problems we were unaware of, that kind of thing. Yeah. Now, maybe that might be a bit of a PR spin, something to hide behind. It wasn't us. It was him. Wink, wink. Don't get on our back. You know how bad the last tenant was. Sorry, the last landlord. But I just, I can't get behind anything until I see proper change, if that makes sense.
10:34Yeah, I think that's fair. And like, it's, you know, the Robertson deal, we could go, well, we've got someone in through the door ready. I'm already like, well, that was kind of tied up in January, wasn't it? And that was even when Frank was about. so and then who's the other player we got? Sanisi right okay and again that's free transfer yeah this is a player was courted by Liverpool and Chelsea yeah yeah yeah and it's amazing that he's coming to us fuck knows why God knows either I don't know but what you so you don't you're not going to give credit for that because it was a free transfer yeah pretty much I'll give credit in the fact that they were out the doors early.
11:20They've probably shown him a lot more, or given him more guarantees, more money, really persuade him. Actually, I will give him, no, I am going to give him credit for that, regardless of the food. Because Langer's supposed to be halfway out the door. Who's signing these players then? I just don't get it. It's so vague. It's like, who's in charge? You know, like the Lewis family cannot or they shouldn't be allowed to make footballing decisions because they haven't passed the fit and proper person's test. Charrington has. Charrington has. But the Lewis family obviously haven't because effectively, I guess, they hadn't had to.
12:06Obviously, Daniel Levy did. And they only need Charrington to be that, to be compliant. I also found something interesting with Charrington is that his job he's not Daniel Levy by the way so he's non-executive chairman so he doesn't make decisions he doesn't say this is the direction we're going in what he does is take agendas and then put them to the board so all this is in the episode of the lab we did with Anatole Pang recently I know I listened to it that's why I said it
12:43but it was interesting wasn't it he basically sets out sets out the agenda that he he has the control to put particular problems or perspectives in front of the board um which um which is a really important job because he's not a football man either um well i just wondered who was doing that deal with senesi was it was it already done and the work had been done and it was merely a case of if Spurs stay up, he'll sign if they don't, they go down. So it was done when Langer was in place. Exactly. So with Robertson and Senesi, is that how you say his name? Senesi. It's S-E-N-E-S-I. Senesi. Yeah. That work would have been going on in the background, January or whatever.
13:29The terms would have been made and it's like, as long as Tottenham stay up, I'll sign with you. You've shown enough kind of willingness that you want to sign me and all that lot. job done, stayed up, they've come to sign. But yeah, who was leading that? And listening to that pod with you and Anatole, he was largely kind of like the Lewis family and Chownton. They're finance guys. And that's cool. They've got a lot of experience. But the football inside, who's really doing? Well, the bridge between that and them, them in the football should be Venkatesham. Because lots of owners get involved in football without knowing about football.
14:12Like FSG at Liverpool didn't. They were a baseball team. Sports, still. Saudis. Sorry, not Saudis. The UAE guys have bought City. They knew nothing about football. It's less of a problem that Lewis family aren't football people. It's a big problem if they're making footballing decisions as Nick Boucher apparently did with the sacking of Thomas Frank. You got it right, right yeah you still should this the footballing guy should made that decision before he had to kind of step in so that's that's a worry but it's that the conduit between them and as they said it in their statement the experts and trust the experts which sounds very strange language again went into detail on that on the on the lab um yeah so it would be venkateson that would bridge that gap and i don't know how you feel about him a lot of people just want laying around v night out yeah um i've made it i don't think the football inside of things at this moment is on i've said this loads of times so people are probably bored of hearing it but um he does he understands what it means to run a football club it's not his job to recruit players it's his job to in empower someone like langer to make the right decisions so he's not going in a boardroom going right we want this this and this and then i'm going to go and negotiate with these players it's on Langer I think Langer is the most culpable of all and you can replace Langer with a better director of football and things would shift if he's good at his job I think things would shift quickly and then Venkateshman could just go on with running the football club and the commercial aspect the finances the women's team overseeing all of that stuff but Venkateshman's been here less than a year it would take five years for a ceo it's properly in print whereas sporting director langers definitely definitely should his head should roll massively yeah i think actually if you sack vena as well then all you've got is the lewis family and deserve it that's it i'm not sure that's good no it's definitely not good like do you know anything about oh director of football?
16:26Like, if I had to say to you, who would you... Get one in. Yeah, who would you get in?
16:35I don't know. I don't know. Because I didn't know who Perattici was before he turned up. I've heard Monchi at Villa. He's available, I think. I don't know. Yeah, he is available. I think he was also responsible for Simon Harvey Elliott, who hasn't played all season. good yeah um i don't i don't know that answer now it's a bit of a cop-out maybe i should know but i maybe could do some research no i don't know either bt is um what's his name uh psg guy louis campo he was when he um rumored to come to us a few years back what is he supposed to be he sounds good yeah yeah exactly he's supposed to be great get him at all costs.
17:20Leave PSG. Oh, is that PSG? I think so. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. No, it's not coming, is it? But then we've seen rumours of, is it Doogie Friedman? Okay, Doogie Friedman has, like, Dan Cook speaks really highly of him. Yeah. He said he'd done wonders at Palace. He bought Eze, he bought Elyse, he bought Gaye, and he bought Wharton. That's fucking mental. That is mental. That is insane. that's an insane hit right i didn't know his reputation yeah i think people because these names dougie and he's scottish yeah well i just remember him is the like wasn't he a striker for palace yeah yeah yeah he was decent dougie um he left he basically left to go to saudi and dan was under the impression it wasn't about money because palace offered him more money to stay but it was more about the weather yes yeah probably that um so that that could be good it's a it's not only is it about finding an excellent director of football but it's also finding one work well with the zerby that that relationship needs to be excellent yeah um but who else is there the one that's been linked a lot is uh sebastian curl yeah um who when you read about him it's like it's not even our first choice but they're just kidding me not not even our first choice and uh the dortmund lads uh didn't rate him at all and were laughing about it what dortmund that's on twitter Oh, really?
18:57Yeah. Yeah. So, I don't know. There's others. Paul Mitchell's still available after leaving Newcastle. Oh, Mitchie. Yeah. I don't know if he's on him back. He's quite strong in his opinions, isn't he? And Tixkey Bergenstein. I can't remember his name. He was one of the architects of the modern Manchester City model. Yeah. He's an ex-barcer, yeah? How do you know this stuff, Rick? What? Is that real? I'm fairly certain. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Why? Why do I know that? Yes. Why are you fairly... Oh, I got to say... Yeah, Spanish. Hold on a second. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, he played for Barca. Oh, did he?
19:40Yeah. Oh, okay. I thought he was just like one of their sporting directors or something like that. No, he played for Barcelona, Real Madrid, Deputivo, and then he went to Japan. Mate, there's a picture of him sitting next to all of his trophies that he won while being director of football at Man City. Get him in! Get him in! Get him in! What are you waiting for? Fuck, he's right there! Yeah!
20:07Cristiano Guantulli says, Guantulli, that's probably how they say it, available since leaving Juve, built Napoli's Gattetto winning squad, excellent reputation for squad construction. Two little Italians. you want them
20:24yeah I don't know why that says that just said that I would yeah I don't know there we go yeah so I don't know what they're gonna do I think I think they kind of from like ITK conversations that are going on in WhatsApp groups and stuff like that I think Langer's time with us is up and whilst that happens and we may celebrate that he's gone we need to have a plan in place and not that Levy has gone Venkatesham here's the keys get on with it like because no Venkatesham you can't you can't have if you remove Lange you have to have a supporting director immediately in place yes you can't unless you're going to De Zerbi with his networks and going, oh, who do you want?
21:20Because the old school way of doing it would have been like, you know, when we had Redknapp and then was Daniel Levy. That was it. It was two-stage. I think there might have been some overlap with Baldini there. I'm not sure. But yeah, that's like a proper old school thing where you'd have Venkatesham and he would say, here's X amount of money. What players should we get? And maybe De Zerbi would like that. But I feel like you need someone to do all the hard yards in making signings of players that deserve. He can just concentrate on coaching. Yeah, yeah. Oh, for sure. Yeah, you don't want him doing fucking everything, do you?
21:53Harry Redknapp was in the room with Eden Hazard trying to convince him to sign Tottenham. He convinced him, but then we just wouldn't pay. Daniel Levy wouldn't pay a little what they wanted. That's very, very surprising to hear. I just messaged a Bournemouth, mate. Oh, yeah. I said, what do you make of Sanessi? And he said, one of the best centre-backs I've ever seen for the club. Ridiculous passer of the ball. Always grabs loads of assists. He's just not the quickest. This is only downside. You've got Van der Ven next year. Yeah. Although he is left-footed. Yeah. So, where was this? I saw this on Reddit earlier.
22:36Sanessi's been in my FPL team all season. Has he? Yeah. is he quite popular in FPL isn't he yeah pretty much alright so Marcus Tonesi according to Squawker completed more through balls than any defender in the Premier League in 25-26 Tottenham as a team completed 8 in the entire season so at least that's 18 fucking hell fucking Frank is a fucking terrorist how he's got away with and no one blaming him for this season is it unbelievable yeah it's unreal unreal in it unreal like he should be if he wasn't such a nice bloke he'd be dragged over bloody hot coals he should be everyone's just like don't blame him blame everybody else I wonder what he'll say when and I wonder if he'll speak when he comes out and starts managing again or if he's if he'll give an interview as to say what went wrong at Tottenham or anything and well if he if he does it how he managed the press room at Spurs he'll just say what a great football club we are with so many great players yeah he'll probably bring out a book or something I don't hate this is the thing is I don't even dislike him I hate what he did I hated his football but I just think he's like just a nice bloke
23:57alright let's do some questions because it's Q &A podcast Rick let's fucking go get those quesies in it's Friday then Saturday Sunday what are you doing tonight? No, Rick. What am I doing tonight? Shuffing pills up your bum. Yeah. Two pills, two exe pills right up your bum. Yeah. Just quickly, I need to do a read here for Salie. Okay. It's just reminding me like ecstasy up the bum. Yeah. You know, going on a holiday. Two things are closely linked in my opinion. Absolutely. Have you ever have you ever stuck exe up your bum, Ricky? Not yet. I'm willing to give it a go. I mean, like, same. I haven't either, but, like, you've got one life, Rick.
24:42Go and do it. Yeah. Yeah. You managed to get away this year? I fucking booked one, didn't I? Did you? Where are you going? Going to Spain. Going to Spain, didn't I? España. España, yeah. So where are you staying? I just found an Airbnb for 10 days. Next to, what is it, Toro Melinos or something? Torre Viejo, yeah. Torre Viejo, yeah. Lovely, lovely. There's nothing you love more than just sitting, getting baked by the sun, isn't it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. My favourite activity. But what do you not like getting caught without, Rick? 27:01Nothing. You won't know when Spurs are signing players. You have no idea. When Kylian Mbappe signs for Tottenham, you'll know about four hours later. Do you want to be that person? Yeah. Won't be able to get any coverage on friendlies or anything like that. You'll be fucked, mate. What about Gibbs White? Signing Gibbs White? Come through. We're interested in it. The second half of the season, he's been fantastic. Yeah. He has been fantastic. Because he's come out and says, oh, we're in for him again. Like, what difference? what's changed from last season like marianakis is not going to go all right you can have him this time is he no he wasn't strong enough to say no either maybe he maybe there is a an actual clause that's a decent amount of money if we want to get him like 80 million or something like that the problem was we was getting him on the cheap it felt like yeah that's what i think what i don't understand like the secret clause like what's what good is a secret clause if you can't tell anyone about it the point is is people know what the clause is and they can meet you if they want to yeah oh well no we didn't tell anyone about the clause what why do you have it in there why do it's a secret clause yeah how do you know about the secret clause yeah but Gibbs White Gibbs White should have gone or his agent should have gone all right so we might put a clause in there because we want to get out of our football club but we can't tell anyone about the clause Is that what you're saying, Mr.
28:20Maranakis? It doesn't make any sense. And they signed it anyway. Bad agent. He shouldn't have been talking to him. His agent should have done all the work. Yeah. Anyway. Yeah, so if we do sign Gibbs, right, you'll have no idea. Because you'll be on your sun lounger, sipping your beer. You won't be able to connect to your phone unless you have an eSIM app called Saley. Yeah. The link is in the description below. Right, questions there. he always says has the Steve Nash interview led to more ideas opened any doors for future big name interviews absolutely smashed it with that one looking forward to the next one no no no no it hasn't I wish it had yeah it'd be great they all come scurrying through the door me next please yeah yeah it doesn't work like that what you've got to remember right is people like Steve, they're giving their time.
29:20They benefit nothing from this. Like we haven't elevated, I think we might have elevated Steve Nash's opinion in Spurs fan base and those who've listened to the podcast. Because loads of people, that was really popular in that pod. We might have, people think more fondly of Steve Nash having listened to the pod. But Steve Nash didn't gain anything from it. Do you know what I mean? So you're asking really, really kind of important, successful people to give up their time, which is difficult. I mean, when you're rich, when you're as minted as Steve Nash, to be fair, let me be clear, never gave me any money for the house.
29:57It's not, the only thing that's valuable to Steve Nash is his time. Yeah. Because he's got all the material things he probably wants. And not just saying Steve Nash, anybody, anyone successful. So you're asking for the most valuable thing that they can give away, which is their time. So it's very, very difficult. So it hasn't opened any doors, but we don't like to push and we're looking for there's tons of people we'd love to interview if there was no red tape no nothing holding you back and someone said right I can get you anyone who do you want
30:39can I give you one while you're having a think yeah And I would But for this one I'd be like Flav can we rent a studio In London for this one We've all got to be in the same room Go and get me Jude Law Jude Law? Go and get me Jude Law Jude Law is probably more accessible than Trying to stare at his face A wank under the table Yeah Fucking fly man give any contacts to that sorry we were recording Lads Anonymous earlier and a fly kept landing on my head and Flav just thought it was very funny there you go still in its back yeah so I don't know I think Gareth Bale that would be that would be good obviously Harry Kane that has left finished football I think that would be amazing oh yeah yeah yeah i had nearly had david bentley really nearly but surely you can get david bentley i can i have his phone number i've texted him and we've texted we've exchanged text messages text him now the sun shining is friday he'll be well up for it the problem is is he doesn't have any technical capability this is genuinely the problem right okay so i would need to get him where he's where it's most convenient and i'd have to have some sort of podcast studio there so we was going to do it when he used to do a podcast in a talk sport i was going to go down after his podcast and we're going to walk across to uh a mate of mine who listens to this show he'll be listening to this um and we were going to use his studio we've been in actually you know um and uh he has a studio near london bridge and we were going to do it there but uh something happened he doesn't do that podcast anymore so right okay it's not like i can just send him a fucking zencast a link and he'll be able to work it out it just would never happen that's the problem yeah anyway uh big ang boss de cogloy says seeing you're seeing goona shirts wearing their shirts every fucking day do you think they own multiple or more likely just wearing and sleeping in the same shirt every day like stinky rats they are i i i bumped into a couple while i was in london this week working yeah um they look pathetic yeah they look stupid yeah i you've grown men walking around for four days of an arsehole show and is is pathetic yeah they are a fan base that are you know they always have to it's always got to be on show isn't it whether it's on their fucking water bottle on a hat fucking whatever it is the right little saps and when once they had uh won the league i and even shortly before that i had put in you know on instagram reels and tiktok and all this content that you don't want to see so i put in arsenal gooners arsenal afc everything so i at this moment in time and touch wood i have not seen them lift the trophy i've not seen them celebrating in the changing rooms with the trophy or on the bus or anything like that I've not seen a single thing which has been fantastic I live in Milton Keynes I work from home I haven't been at you know been out and I haven't seen really seen any gooner shirts or anything like that so I've been quite you know I've been happy in my own little bubble when I went to the football on Sunday and we were playing at home they were playing away they had obviously all kind of mobilized on social let's go and watch the trophy lift in finsbury park or highbury in islington they were everywhere it was fucking rank it's what there's there's a sort of thing on twitter i think someone posted in the group so i'm sorry clive martin says i'm sorry but there are obviously so many people doing arsenal Brat Summer.
34:39Not because they are football fans, but because the club has somehow become de facto living in London accessory. A de facto living in London accessory. And New Left Eviews says, I thought it was pretty petty and snobbish, but I've now seen people who I've known for years without ever hearing a football-related syllable from them, posting videos of themselves celebrating in Holloway Road wearing Arsenal kit, which is just abominable in every way I can describe. yeah that sums it up pretty well they're all scumbags it's Friday then it's Saturday Sunday what this is CD he says if Deserby gets us top five will Ricky let him bum him yeah top five yeah yeah yeah yeah no top four I want at least one actually fifth place is Champions League now innit yeah right okay yeah as long as we get champions league then sure why not i think they're sick to death of your ass i suppose nah it's pretty premium ass mate premium primo where are you going later i was just going to see ricky were you as well jazzy m94 says leicester avoided relegation then won the league we couldn't could we Pep gone Liverpool mess Chelsea are crap United will implode rugby scrubs in the box band to stifle Arsenal that said we were top of the league from goals from corners who we were yeah oh yeah we we beat Arsenal in the final day of the season oh good yeah most Arsenal players would have played 80 plus games following the World Cup no way they can have that legs for another 60 game season interesting interesting interesting how about some injuries their way that'd be nice broken legs Stifster said what were the lowest lows and your highest hoes from moments in this season Fulham away and the two-year-old was the lowest I felt I think
36:54I think it's probably going to be the lowest would have to be the forest game at home with the uh welcome coach uh and i i just felt like that was the turning point that was this was it we were you know all we were united you know all together it was everyone all together and we just kind of i just felt like this is it and then we got fucking thumped at home 3-0 and I just sat there yet again staring at my feet just thinking I cannot believe this is happening. Yeah, Forest is bad. My happiest moment of the season is going to be a bit of a selfish one here and I haven't visited the Etihad so my dad and I drove up there beginning of the season and we won 2-0.
37:54Yeah. Fucking brilliant. Yeah, it was brilliant. Yeah, all right. Yeah, I was going to say Man City as well, which is a shame because it's the second game of the season. Yeah. Yeah, so I mean there wasn't many highs. No, absolutely not. No.
38:13Uber Eze says, now that we're staying up and it looks like Cinesi and Robertson, who would you like to see brought into a squad in this window. Did you... I don't know why, but I'm not overly convinced by Savio. And they seem to want him, and they have wanted him since last year. Savinho? Yeah. Right, okay. Yeah, he's called Savio as well, isn't he? Oh, is he? Yeah. Oh, I didn't know that. Savinho is his name, and Savio. Anyway, you know now. he I don't you you can't go from Girona to Manchester City if you're not good and play minutes under and he just seems to want to come which I can't articulate how strange that is why it has nothing to do with Spurs and every time I'm going Spurs yeah Savio just a quick call we've had a couple of offers from different clubs when any of in Tottenham?
Read the full transcript
39:18Yeah, funnily enough. Yeah, brilliant. What? I want to go Spurs. Why? Why do you want to go Spurs? Why? It is mental, isn't it? Absolutely mental. And a player like that, he's been playing under Pep for the last few seasons. It's tricky as well, right? It's tricky. Yeah, I know. It's tricky. So, you know, who else would you want that's been under the coaching of fucking Pep? I don't, I kind of don't want, if you buy like an established left winger, he's like 28, but sort of class. I think we've got a really good player in Tell. Yeah. And the boys were talking this morning about like the Somerville was linked.
40:01So I really rate Somerville, but I think, I think the discussion in the group was, was a fair one in that you've got Oda Bear, you've got Tell. And if you were to bring it to India as well, that's three left wingers. Hmm. But they're a similar age. Like Savinho is 22, Tell's 21, and Odo Bear's like 23 now. Right, okay, yeah. If we're going to go with youth, unless you sell a couple, if you're going to go with youth, just make that, that's what we're doing in that position. Yeah. And that they can compete. And you use them all sparingly because they're young players and they can compete. And we can go for a league and FA Cup double and stay in the league.
40:49Because we're rotating. With Tell, though, is that his natural position? Is it his preferred position? I kind of feel like... How would you review his season? Yeah, I mean... You're gone. No, sorry, Rick. If you're talking about goals and assists in the brass tacks of numbers, then, and for your left winger, then it could be improved. But his willingness to try, take someone on, his mentality, he's like professionally and as a person, I remember there was some aggro with maybe our away fans. I can't quite remember, but I remember him. Yeah. And him coming over and trying to talk and quiet everyone down and, and just conversing with our fans.
41:42But, yeah, He's a fucking 20, 21-year-old French kid. You know what I mean? Just like... His head is screwed on. Yeah, exactly. He's unreal professional. Driven. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Completely right attitude. He's someone you want in your dressing room, I think. Yeah. And he seems like if he, like confidence-wise, Mawani tries to step over, gets tackled, head drops. Tell does the same thing. His head is still up. you know he's still focused he'll still try the same thing again and he'll go again and I yeah I've got a lot of time for Tell actually Same I think towards the end of the season while he wasn't sort of directly involved although to be fair his goal against Brighton would have probably again without that would have gone down so there was only lots of moments where you can attribute something to a player for keeping us up like whether it be Paulinho's goals or Matisse Tell's goal against Brighton or Kinski saves whatever it was there were big big moments where our players stood up but I think most of all like you say his numbers are not not great you know he's got four goals and one assist in games but he's only started a third of games and he's got a 40 available minutes you'd want double that probably if he was if he was starting every week yeah
43:07interesting we've got a number nine situation haven't we because Richarlison's got to go as you said Tell's actual natural position would be a center forward I wonder if he's going to be our number two to Solanke or if we buy another get another striker through the door yeah you know Solanke hasn't gone to the World Cup so there's plenty of time for for Deserby to work with him um so having matis tell as number two and if you buy a left winger then you don't rely on tell playing there you can play there but he can also play centrally maybe that's i feel i feel like if we have solanke as our number one and tell as our two i still don't think there is enough goals there do you know i mean i definitely need a number a new number nine i feel like so we need someone more prolific, more greedy, more direct.
44:00I was thinking about like, where are the number nines that are available? What are they? I can't think of any. Marmouche. Yeah. Marmouche? Yeah. Yeah? Yeah. Okay. He'll probably want to go eventually. He's not going to start at Harland ever, is he? Sign all the City players, isn't it? John Stones as well. He's coming. John Stones, yeah. Yes, Stones, he's coming. Trafford, James Trafford keeper, bring him here. Just imagine that, five transfers all from Man City. They want Pedro Porro because he could be used as a bargaining chip. You can have Pedro Porro and we'll have all those five players we just mentioned.
44:44Yeah. No money exchange, just five for the one, please. I think Mahmoud, but similarly Mahmoud did it at Frankfurt, so did Mawani. I just think the German league is so bad. I genuinely think it's like the standard is far below. But yeah, muck. If we're being honest, it's muck.
45:07But I've liked what I've seen from Wermut. She used to play in our position or in a 4-4-2. It's effectively out of position because you used to be up top on your own. I think it's probably better than Solanke. I don't know. We need two anyway. Yeah. oh dearie me you little bitch you little bitch
45:32okay Draft All he says how are you preparing for the biggest hate watch of the season I'm not even acknowledging it Rick are you going to watch it nah I have a thing that if I tend to watch a Goona game they win so So I won't be watching it. And I haven't watched it until, I haven't watched a Goona game since, well, when Tottenham played Arsenal. That's about it. So I don't watch it, but. Yeah, I have no idea if they're good or, I don't know nothing about them. No, I couldn't tell you how they play or anything. If it's second half, PSG winning like 3-0 and we're in 80th minute, then I will. did you just let out a little fart?
46:22No. There was like a car with a sports car draped by.
46:29That's unlikely to fucking let out a little toot. You want to be a little secretive about those? I just don't want I don't understand walking around fucking farting in front of people. It's like what happens when you fart? You release a fucking god-awful smell. Why are people so comfortable with doing it? It's like someone being rude. It's got to come out, innit? No. it doesn't have to come out at that moment it can come out later when you're on your own fuck off and then fart somewhere else don't fart near me literally fuck off it's natural it's natural i don't care just stay the fuck away from me if you intend on stinking it's rude it's rude it's like rude it is if it's what you would you go up and spit on someone i have to spit it's natural would you would you do that no how dare you fart fucking fart near someone it reeks oh i don't care very funny household this is no it's fine in the family house that's your decision right i'm talking about like my dad thinks it's fucking hilarious so we'd walk around blockbusters as a kid and he'd fart and not hold me there i think that's why i'm so angry i'm like anti-fired i'm not anti-fired i'm just like be fucking use his Deticate to these things.
47:37Fuck off on your own and do it.
47:46Daddy Wagon says, if you were the Zerbi, what are your top three priorities for the off-season?
47:55Well. Just continue to work on the mentality of the players as you have done. I'd say mentality for sure. I remember him saying in one of his interviews that he's introduced three attacking bits and three defensive bits. Quite basic, nothing too mad. Stick to the basics, focus on that, and we'll build on that foundation, confidence and stuff. So this upcoming season, one would imagine it's going to be full. they're working towards full deservedly ball. So I think what I would like to see is the passing passages of play, the patterns, how we're, how that not just we have one plan of how to move the ball up the pitch.
49:00I'd like to kind of be able to see that there's different parts. And when we, even like the last five or six games that he took over, you could see there was a difference in how we played straight away. And there was, I mean, I don't know if it's tactical. It certainly felt like it. But when we were playing against Chelsea, Porro on the right, especially in the first half, he tried two through balls through to Richarlison. didn't quite come off. But you don't see that. And again, I've not seen that at all. I haven't seen Tottenham try and make a through ball for fucking God knows how long. And I love it when we score through through balls, right?
49:43And just seeing that, that must have been Zerby saying, I don't know, Richarlison, you've got the run on their centre-backs. Try the through ball. Tried it two or three times. But it's those different types of things to say, even if someone is trying a low block or anything like that, that we have other kind of ways to unpick a lock instead of the way that Frank managed us. That's what I would like to see because that's kind of why we've signed. Well, we got Deserbian as a coach, is attacking play, is innovative in football. So that's, yeah, that's most definitely something I'm looking forward to.
50:25Yeah. Yeah, no, I agree. I'm looking forward to seeing the patterns and the play and the fact that you shored up our defence. One of the criticisms of him before joining Tottenham was that he was open. His football typically lent to him being counter-attacked against, similar to Postacoglu. And it shows you that, and I think a lot of us were guilty of this in saying that Postacoglu only knows to play one way of football. And it's just nonsense because Deserby knew, right, what do we need to do if we just stop conceding goals, shipping goals, stop conceding them? And he got him, you know, we looked comfortable.
50:59We looked completely comfortable. But I'm looking forward to seeing a bit more of what he actually wants. And it's interesting, like, how quickly Van de Ven's come around and said, I want to stay at Spurs, like, now that he's here. Yeah. I think they're really impressed. Like, Madison talking about how impressed they are with him. I think the kind of weird sort of undercurrent of optimism we're all feeling as fans right now is directly to De Zerbi. How he's come in and he's steadied the ship. He's come in and he wasn't overly emotional. In fact, he was calm. The way he spoke, when he was asked questions about the situation, about the magnitude of these games, he just responded in a really calm and measured way.
51:33It's almost like he was the... What did we expect of him, Rick? A hot-headed Italian that was going to blow up as soon as things didn't go his way. And what have we got? A kind of emotional, but calm. He's been very calm. He's been quite direct. I quite, you know, it has been quite opposite to what I thought we were getting, which is great. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. So there's more of that. I think we might have a better manager than we understand. Yeah. That's early to say that, but I'm excited. Oh, you're hugely excited. We've actually answered some of this. Better call Tom, but I'm going to read the question out because he, This is how he feels about the statements from V9 Charrington and the Lewis family.
52:27What are you overriding for? We've already talked about that, Tom, so you'll know who already. I know there is a lot of noise around it being the usual PR drivel, but I absolutely love it. I love it because they have nowhere to hide after this. They blamed it on Levy and acknowledged they haven't been focused on football and need to correct that ASAP. So they've effectively put the noose around their neck. This is what I was getting at. And told us to trust them or to sort it out. worst case we use this to lengthen 12 months i don't know if it's i promise you i didn't write this but hopefully we actually get some traction from this how do you see it do you think they've got nowhere to hide so yeah yeah i agree with you that's exactly how i feel about it and ricky has already explained yeah he feels about it as well uh walkout music says i think flub made the point last week that we all the talk in the last weekend of the games was about us possibly going down on no one gave a shit about the scum lifting the trophy why do people obsess about us so much Obviously the relegation threat to it was a special case, but it feels like ever since Red Napier, we get an inordinate amount of media retention when we fail.
53:28Whereas the likes of Villa and Newcastle can go years without winning, get relegated and no one cares. Any thoughts on that, Rick? I don't get it.
53:41I completely agree. Everyone is so focused on Tottenham. I think in one of the previous pods you were saying, or Sean Cray was saying about, you know, you go to the darts and everyone's singing, you know, punch bags of Europe and all that shit. And it's always Tottenham. Nothing against Villa, Newcastle, Everton, any of those teams. And everyone has been pretty focused on let's relegate Tottenham. How fucking great would that be? It's always the same, man. I don't understand it because for a team that is, you know, air quotes, not part of the big six, for a team that never wins anything, for a team that has a dusty trophy cabinet, for a team that's, it's happened again, all of that stuff.
54:41But yet everyone is like ready to fucking. Do you know why it is, Rick? Because we're massive. We're massive. Because we're massive. We're fucking massive. I rest them go West Ham and massive. They sing the song, but I sing it ironically. Because no one gives a shit about West Ham. No one hates West Ham. Yeah. Apart from a selection of Spurs fans at Millwall. Right? I can give a shit about West Ham, honestly. I give such a shit about West Ham that I actually feel sorry for them. Yeah, yeah. Not because they get relegated. That happens. but because their owners took their home away, that is outrageously, and moved them into that shit heap.
55:22Daniel Levy wanted us to move to Stratford, but he was going to knock the stadium down. He didn't want to live in that. Yeah. That's why we didn't get it in the end. So I feel sorry for him. But it's because we are gigantic. We spend so many times in people's heads.
55:44and we haven't won anything. We won the Europa League, but we haven't won anything in years. There's no reason why Spurs should be as big as they are that we command the attention of millions of people around the planet. They don't understand it. Arsenal fans don't understand it. That's why they say the things they say because what Spurs are is an authentic football club they can never understand. people are connected to supporting spurs and you think of actually the most recent years all our friends over in america and other parts of the world like we all we've all made up our decision when we were kids and we didn't really have a choice it was who our dad supported who our local club is mainly mainly unless you're a man united fan then a liverpool fan then you you're everywhere right glory hunting kids all right that's what they did but But for Spurs, people in the States have chosen to follow Spurs for whatever reason it be, but it's certainly not because we won.
56:47And people don't understand it. They don't like it. They don't like it. If it clicks for Tottenham, which one day hopefully it will, and I don't mean a fucking really desperate Europa League win. I mean if it properly clicks like it did at points under Pochettino and we win leagues and stuff, people will lose their minds. They just won't know what to do with it. They'll hate it. And we've got that all to come, boys and girls. Right.
57:16Sayen says, Flav, how daft do you feel having spent the first half of the season talking up what a seasoned operator V-Night is despite the fact that you hadn't had a clue about him?
57:31how do you feel just waking up and think i'm gonna be a cunt today i'm gonna wake up i'm gonna be a cunt i don't know why i'm gonna be a cunt to someone um i don't know me i i produced i have produced through the fighting cock and the lab and Patreon on Tottenham Alone 300 podcasts this year. So there are tons of things I will get wrong. But I will say, give it time. It may be that it will be good. And the thing is as well, right, not to come into your defence, but if you look at Vinay's CV before he got to us, it is a pretty seasoned CV. and he has a lot of connections and he has done well in places that he's been.
58:24So what else are we going to say when he comes in? Like, he's shit, get him out of the club, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You know, on paper he looks good. And I still, not that I like, the goon of it still really, you know, it sticks in the throat, it really does. but like we were saying earlier about him and he you know he doesn't direct the transfer strategy and all of this other you know the football inside the stuff i feel and this is only my opinion that because langer is you know the the most probably uh other senior football guy there that he's had to lean heavily on him and if some guy like langer is getting out presentations with a lot of data you know uh all his analysis who else can you can you rely on when someone has got data in front of them and showing you all these different graphs and stuff you just have to believe them from a from a footballing perspective if you're not into football like if someone said to me and showed me a bunch of graphs about, I don't know, boxing.
59:39You know, I have a mild interest in boxing, but I don't know the ins and outs. And someone said, well, this person is going to be great because they're a hard puncher, but I don't know anything else. Then, you know, I can only go on because this guy's told me and he's, you know, he's got all the data that says he's a hard puncher. So I've got to believe him, surely. Yeah, exactly. Also, I also said that Harry Kane would never make it at Tottenham. Like, I don't know my arse and my elbow either. I'm just talking into a microphone hoping people will listen.
1:00:15Ghost HMCY has got two questions. You can bring back one former Spurs player at the age of 24 to build the next Spurs side around. Who would it be? I've got my answer straight away. Will we be closer to challenging for the first top four or closer to another season in the bottom half? Name your player, bring him back, 24. I am probably going to have to go with Harry Kane. Luka Modric. Okay. But Harry Kane would be fine. Yeah. Just fine. I genuinely think we'll be in the top eight next year. Like comfortably top eight. That's how I feel at the moment. my my old man said for this season uh mid to lower half of the season uh the league this one coming no no no the one we've just had yeah i was furious with him oh yeah i was just taking the piss i was like how can you say rah rah rah he was right remind you of it no he hasn't said anything yet fuck you know he's going to listen to this fucking podcast good dad good dennis good my dad said i was talking to my dad about everything that um deserve he's going to do in terms of playing out from the back.
1:01:23And I said to him, you will never see Spurs play a long ball because he's like obsessed with playing out from the back and how awful it is, as all men of his vintage are. And I was just sort of saying to him, look, just prepare yourself for the fact that we're not going to be playing balls long. Like you have to just accept it. So I don't want to have five conversations a game about it. And literally we sat down in his first game against Sunderland and it went back to Vacario and the ball was launched long. And he went, all right, that lasted well. I was like, fuck, shit. he didn't he weren't quiet with it he was like what the fuck are you talking about
1:02:00yeah but I think we'll finish quite comfortably top 8 next year yeah what do you make of the fact that they're investigating the injury crisis and part of that is the pitch because you've been banging that drum for ages you watch one shitty little TikTok by some knobhead in America not the fact that he's American is an issue but sounds like it is mate well i'm like what the fuck do you know you're sitting in your computer on the other side of the world and you're talking about how the the pitch is built because you happen to find something in real madrid where they suffered acl injuries as well so therefore it can be nothing else but the fucking pitch because you got yourself a little fucking sort of clickable interesting tiktok that was sent to me about 400 times all i'm just saying we got no stones left unturned That's all I'm saying.
1:02:48Yeah, I agree. We've got to check everything, right? Everything needs to be checked. Everything needs to be checked. Including the training ground pitches. Well, apparently the training ground pitches have been set up in a way to mimic the same as the stadium pitch. Oh, shit. It's really. Yeah, that's what I read. So there's obviously continuity, how we play, how we pass, whatever. But I don't know. Yeah, we have to get to the bottom of these injuries. I guess it's going to be a mix of kind of ripping up the team of our old medical staff, getting new people in, rushing people back, a lot of that stuff.
1:03:28And there probably won't be anything to do with the pitch, but I'm happy that we're at least looking at it. Yeah. No, it has to be looked at. We've got to figure it out. And the worrying thing is if it comes back and it is the pitch, although there was, I read the entire article, it's on the BBC, about the pitch. No, no, it was Football London actually. And they've had it tested and they said there's no real difference from any other pitch in the Premier League. Right. But that's not to say it ain't a problem. Also, like the massive issue of having three different managers and three different training schedules could be a problem.
1:04:04I just, I don't understand, what I keep coming back to in terms of the pitch is that we had three years between 2019 and 2022 where the pitch wasn't even talked about? Why is it now in the last three years that it is? Like what was the difference between it? Was it the wear and tear maybe that's caused it? Yeah, I don't know. We'll see. We'll see.
1:04:30Danger Pest says, are you worried that anything negative you say about RDZ on your podcast may result in him looking for you after the match to give you a hug? That's the guy who said. because they're worried about him kicking off. I want to see the journalists. That was brilliant. That was carried himself very well. Yeah, really is. The Zerbi was taking some flack for saying avoiding relegation was bigger than the trophy. If you were forced to choose between giving up your open league and playing the championship next year, what would you choose is a great question. It's a fucking horrible, stinky question.
1:05:03Why do you read it out? Well, this is the premise of the show. They ask questions. We answer them. I, I understand where he was coming from in terms of the impact to the football club the Europa League while for fans was incredible for the club was about the money that was coming from from the Champions League I think the damage the damage by getting relegated would do more would be more significant than the positives of winning the Europa League yes winning the football that metric yeah winning a football match europa league and getting a trophy that's a nice to have a fucking a bloody beautiful wonderful nice thing to have but if we lost that game okay so what yeah you just get another game we lost if you get go down i i was always very ballsy about that would you rather arsenal win the league if spurs got relative no so if you stop if Arsenal win the league if Spurs got relegated and they would go, yeah, yeah, anything to stop them.
1:06:10When the reality, when you're confronted with the reality, like I've been humbled this season in a big way. Because I'm like, now I'm like, now I'm like, no, absolutely not. I'd ever want to do that again. And actually, as bad as it was, it weren't that bad. Like, I thought Arsenal winning the league would really hurt me. But I haven't really even thought about it since it's happened. not really touch the side to me i've got to be honest i thought it was gonna i thought it's gonna rip me a new one to be honest but it doesn't like apart from a couple people sending me stuff on twitter which i barely use anymore it yeah it's not really i think it's because they're such a weird bunch of people it's like well all right they've won the league but to enjoy that you'd have to be one of them and i couldn't think of anything worse though i think it's well like but if they if it was like this all conquering super attacking amazing football um triumph of winning the league and the way they play and all that then you'd be like fucking hell this is going to happen for the next few years man great but it hasn't been that at all they've you know stumbled to it and in the end they've ended up winning it because city lost so and i've been purely focused on tottenham not getting relegated it's just consumed me in its entirety so i'm like fine do whatever at least we're still in the premier league that's all i care about yeah um let's uh let's ask a couple more questions before we round this up.
1:07:53IQ Jump, he says, are we going to have weekly pods during the off season? You'll be welcome. I'll be welcome to it, but curious if you want, of what you, sorry, what? Curious what you will want to talk about. Won't force them out, but, well, yeah, we'll still record for this. We always have done. we have done since we started we never really take a break never have so uh yeah it would just be continuous normal um but it might be one a week not two if there's if there's if there's loads of movement in the transfer window we'll do some england stuff as well during the world cup probably so yeah all good um tactical laziness is when are other clubs going to realize there are levels to this whole thing mate do you know how badly the villa fans have taken this this food chain thing like really bad are they sending for you yeah when they won the Europa League when they won the Europa League mate it was unreal I couldn't go to Instagram couldn't go to Twitter they were all coming through I'm like no well what were they writing food chain yeah like food chain and I was like we won it a year ago yeah fucking plebs what are you talking about we showed you how to do it it weren't like it wasn't like it was bothering me it was just it was just everywhere they hated it when I said about us signing Gallagher and he wanted to come to us instead of Villa and I said at the end I said it's a food chain this is a food chain it's not my fault we're a tiger shark you're a fucking sea turtle yeah it's just the way things are yeah yeah hated it they're like desperate the one of the Villa fans I spoke to in when I do the overlap and stuff like that they're like no we should be probably sexy no that's what they're like we should be more than big six dude no yeah no yeah um and i'm like we didn't choose we just are and you can't choose to be or desire to be you're just not so and and and there's nothing we can do to change that until it changes and there may be a world in the future where we aren't maybe we're seventh and villa do take us it won't be anything that i can do about it this is just the way things are right now yeah so accept the fact that players regardless of whether you're in champions league or not don't want to go to Birmingham and do want to come to London and play for Tottenham yeah it's just the way it is I'm sorry yeah sorry about that I'm not gloating about it I'm just explaining something maybe maybe you should say like at least in our final we played Man United you played Freiburg Spell it.
1:10:33Spell it. Yeah. No, no one can. No one can. It's impossible.
1:10:41That's just the way it is. Sorry. I'm not gloating here. I'm just telling you, just so you know, I'm explaining to you why Colin Gallagher joined Tottenham over Villa. I'm just explaining it. They're going, why is this? Why is this happening? Why is Colin Gallagher going to Tottenham over Villa? And I'm like, well, let me explain it to you if it's confusing to you. there is a food chain that exists in football and we are above you in it yeah okay don't like it don't ask the question don't ask the question all right uh one more uh flav i purchased all the pepper big merch that came out and finally had the cock tattooed on my arm mate in front of you at the football there was someone with a did you say a fighting cock tattoo on the on their calf yeah yeah yeah yeah i took it i slyly took a photo um it's in the it's in the whatsapp group on their left calf if you're listening to this right whoever this might be since you know send a photo in put your hand up but on the back of their left calf they had the fighting cock logo tattooed on their left calf let us know yeah uh it's it's not one of those things you tap them on the show and go, is that the, yeah, I just had to do a sly photo and be like, fuck, that's the fighting cock logo.
1:12:04I, I, I would, I would say, I, I think it's more likely that someone's tweeted it and found a photo and that's like, oh, it's Spurs and it's sort of like different. Maybe it's that. Yeah. I do know some people who have actually had the fighting cock tattooed on the logo, which She's mental. Legends. Yeah. Appreciative. Right, Ricky, thank you so much, mate. All right, no worries. I don't know. 15 minutes? 12 minutes? 12, 15 minutes? Ricky, I didn't have a shop near me for 20 minutes drive away for a while. I couldn't even get milk where I lived.
