In short
The Fighting Cock (Spurs) discusses Manchester City’s guilty verdict on 115 charges and likely Premier League punishment (fines vs points deduction), then pivots to Tottenham news and fan debate about Ange Postecoglou’s early-season struggles, patience, and tactics. They also speculate on Dejan Kulusevski’s return timeline and what he could add to the squad, plus a long Q&A covering everything from Spurs-related memories to matchday atmosphere (trumpet/drum), and humorous questions about health and shitting themselves.
Guests
No named guests. The episode is hosted by Rick and “Flab” (Ricky and Flav Bateman), with Q&A from listeners.
Key claims
City’s punishment will likely be points deduction and could still leave them relegation-safe; Spurs fans should give De Zerbi/managerial rebuilds time rather than blame “mentality”; Kulusevski’s injury return could improve midfield/through-the-middle creativity and aggression.
Notable examples
Kulusevski possibly fit for the bench after the international break; Brighton’s early De Zerbi record (3 losses, 2 draws); comparisons to Kudus’ directness; Spurs fans’ trumpet/drum psychological debate.

2:21Ricky:It's a fighting Cock A camel Ricky What's happening? Yeah, just thought we'd do a little Ticking over pod Like we'll have to do a lot of those In the next three weeks But I guess people out there Might need something to listen to And if they do They can listen to this Yep They don't But they won't No But there has been some Actual, I mean It's not really Spurs news But literally on the point of Hit and record Manchester City have being found guilty of almost every single one of the 115 charges oh my god have you seen that i know you shared it didn't you i did share it yeah yeah what are your thoughts immediate thoughts uh nothing will happen to him to be honest uh it will be like a big slap on the wrist 20 million like all the kind of uh you know teams around the world for you for a racist chant in this that and the other i mean they get fined but does it really will it will they really do anything well the i mean the answer to that is they should uh and the answer perhaps is also that they will um the premier league given their own precedent set by what happens what's happened to everton and what's happened to leicester and uh forest means it will be a points deduction and and and I'm sure are fine on top of that.
3:50The reality is that they will appear less and it will just be, go further into the long grass. And it might take years and years to sort out. I don't know. Or they might have agreed to punishment with the Premier League. The Premier League seemed fair and Manchester City are willing to swallow.
4:12And I mean, if you're Man City at the moment, they've got 15 points on the board in the first five games. and they're saying we're going to give you a 50-point deduction, they might look at this and go, we can stay up with that. I don't know if they can. What would they need to get? To stay up, they'd need to get 90 points, which would usually win in the league.
4:33Ricky:Yeah.
4:36Ricky:They'd finish 17th. We'd finish 18th. Yeah, yeah, we'll still go down because of it. Yeah, probably. But yeah, so I mean, it's interesting. I mean, does it give you more faith in the Premier League? No. To be fair, this decision-making wasn't made by the Premier League. There's an independent body that viewed all of the evidence that's been amassed over the last couple of years and have made this decision. It's not the Premier League. We find you guilty. It's not that. What will it mean, though? Like in terms of do you think that there will be a possible in this league for this year, it's null and void or we'll deduct points from that time and then the goon is the champions Tottenham win the League Cup what do you mean retrospectively would be taking away all of their I don't think so because that's not what happened to Chelsea and it creates an absolute I mean this is a mess because you'd imagine Arsenal would be within their rights to say we should be champions we should receive the the amount of money that champions would receive they may sue for lack of earnings.
5:46Yeah. I don't know, man.
5:50Ricky:They'd 100 % have a opened up bus parade. Yeah. Yeah. For winning four extra titles or whatever it would have been. Yeah. I don't know. I almost don't care. But at least at least the right decision has been made right now. The integrity of the sport. Yeah. That you can't just this is a message to you sports washing countries with sports washing aspirations that they cannot flout the rules willy nilly and it's a deterrent to future stuff anyway let's move on with Spurs I'm sure Kieran Maguire will be able to articulate this in a better way than you and I could I don't know Yeah, I'm going to almost guarantee it.
6:43Everyone's cynical, aren't they? Everyone's cynical. Yeah. It's Q &A podcast, Rick. Let's go. All right. But before we get into the lovely questions, over at Reddit, Kulisevsky, apparently he could be fit to be on the bench after the old, you know, international break.
7:13Ricky:Great news. Bereval said that Kuliskovsky is progressing well in training and describing as a real machine. Aletogol reported that the return to the bench after the break is possible if his recovery continues smoothly, although obviously no confirmed date. I just want to say, if you look at the cover art of this episode of the fighting cock it's a wonderful photo of koulis koulisovsky what a player and it's taken by the wonderful frederick jensen and she's got a photo book out that you can purchase now you can pre-order it now i've pre-ordered mine and there's some incredible for i mean some of the best photography that's around in football most of it is around our football club but the best bit of photography she's ever done rick is what?
8:04It's the photo of me and you. In the West Stand. Yeah. Was it West Stand or was it East Stand? Yeah, East Stand. Yeah, East Stand. Yeah, where I asked her, I was like, Frederic, if there's any chance, because I know you're working for the game.
8:20Ricky:You're a little busy. Yeah, you're a little busy, but if you get a moment photographing Spurs beat Charlton 5-1, then look for me and Ricky. And if you can take a candid picture of us, then do so. I don't know how long she was watching for, or I don't know if we were cuddling the entire game, Rick. But the photo she found is us hugging. I think maybe after a goal had been scored. But I'll cherish that. And if you want to see that picture, you can on my Instagram, it's Flav underscore Bateman. It's probably the most favorite photo that I have with you. And given the fact that you have so many photos of us when we were traveling Europe in the noughties, yep and every one of them makes me feel sick disgusting photos there i was actually funny enough i was looking at a couple of photos of us two earlier there's one my favorite why why oh it's for a lad's website right gotcha um yeah there's one where we were out and you're kissing my face yep yeah amazing photo you used to hate that what you used to you used to hate that if like tongues got on your face and stuff like that.
9:30Ricky:It's just you like sipping from my beer, putting your tongue around my pint and stuff. Yeah, but you had like, you was a bit of a germaphobe. I was, I was. Are you still? No, no, thank God that's gone. I cured it. But the photo of me and you in Brussels, in that pub, Charlie Marks took it, black and white photo. Yeah. When smoking was allowed back in pubs and I'm smoking a cigarette and we're both just sitting there. That's a cool photo. Yeah, that is a good photo. Although you was in bed about an hour later. This was Spurs versus Andalus. Yeah. And the first night we've been drinking all day and we'd got to the pub and it was, that must have been about five o 'clock in the afternoon.
10:12Ricky:Yeah. I think I got taken home at six. You got taken home and put to bed at six o 'clock. Yeah. That was also the night of naked croissants. Yeah. So less said about that. Yeah, so Kulicevsky. What a player. What are your... I've got zero expectation on him. The injury he's had has been... It's probably the most serious injury barring Christian Ziga because his injury ended his career. You remember that? He got a dead leg and then a blood clot. Did he get a little clotty? Yeah, he got a clot dog. And his leg went rock hard, apparently. Shit. And that ended his career. But other than that, I think this is probably the worst, worst thing.
11:02And the fact that it's been storied by the fact that, you know, it was a collision between him and Mark Gay. And it just seemed so innocuous. Yeah, yeah. And obviously, we know the much storied conversation about how Pastor Cogger said it would be a knock and he'll be back next week. And was it 470 days later? there's just genuine talk and hope that he could return
11:26Ricky:there's this
11:30Ricky:hunger determination motivation and mental what's the word I'm looking for aptitude he is just so focused I don't think he lets things affect him that much you know what I mean You know, when you've got... He's got the power of Christ. Yeah, yes. He's got that. And I just feel like he will be a man on a mission to return back to his former glory. Now, I'm not saying that he's going to come back and straight away and straight back into the team and I'm expecting to see him up and running within five weeks. I genuinely think it's kind of going to be a year until he's back to his former glory. But we'll see flashes and it's nice to have a body back and someone where we're so desperately lacking as well.
12:34Ricky:And he brings a lot to the team as well. Yeah, that's a good question actually. So what does he bring to the team that we don't have? What positions could he fill that, you know, if he returns the type of Kulisevsky that we saw at times under Poster Coglu, what is it that he brings? Because it's comparable in ways to Kudus but not really. He's much more direct. Kudus is direct as well but in a more sort of where Kudus, it's hard to describe his game style but he's so close to the ground. Whereas Kulicevsky, it feels more natural that he can move the pace forward. He's also good at flicking. When the ball comes in and flicking around the corner and playing people in.
13:19Um, so that there'll be that on the right hand side, but I've been keep like the fact that we're having such major problems in the tent, the through the middle again, he was used many times a possibility through the middle. Yeah. It was good.
13:32Ricky:I would Angie was, uh, used him as a 10. Yeah. So he can play both those roles. Um, and like I said, he has that, um, he has an aggression in him, uh, that battleness where he is kind of, he won't, his head doesn't drop. He carries on. And I think having a player like that and a senior player, and he's probably one of the longest serving Tottenham players around at the moment, that I feel, and he's going to have a point to prove as well coming back from a long-term injury. So many people say he will never get to those heights again, that type of injury and that will spur him on. So I feel that it's that kind of steeledness in our midfield that he'll bring.
14:26Yeah, fair. So, I mean, look, if you look at our squad, if he is available, you're allowed to feel a little bit more optimistic, I think, than we have been. And I'm wondering, given the fact that we're a few days further on from the Aston Villa game? Are you sort of calmer or is it giving you more time to worry? I was on the overlap yesterday and I've got to say it was... Fun. Yeah, I was... I mean, no, but it was the most on the back foot that I felt since I've been on the show and it's been six, seven years now, where because I was defending Tottenham and the reasons why we might be in this situation, I felt pushed back quite a lot when generally like Carragher and in this case, Sean Dyche, who I wasn't impressed with at all.
15:23Wasn't impressed with Sean Dyche at all.
15:29He just seemed to hate supporters. And it's probably because he's got so much grief from them over the years we've managed in football clubs in the Premier League. But he just seemed to have a disdain. He was a contrarian as well. He always sort of took the opposite position of every point, despite making a point. So earlier on in the conversation, I was listening to him talk, and one of the things he said, bearing in mind I was aware that my section was going to be coming up, the Spurs section was going to be coming up. He said about a massive turnover of players creates, it makes it difficult to put performances together and tactics together and all that sort of stuff.
16:09and I was thinking well that's what's happening at Spurs right so if I say this then surely he's going to agree with me and then I'm going to have kind of like an ally here yeah yeah but he didn't oh no he didn't he just said that it's not an excuse and I was like why is it not why is it suddenly not an excuse like Carragher started up the conversation by just laughing that we're going to get relegated it was hard work it was hard work
16:32Ricky:yeah I can imagine and the thing is as well you can't really there isn't anywhere to hide is there because we have spent like 400 near on 400 mil uh new manager and we are where we are so you can't really there is nothing to really fight back against i i guess you can say that they you've seen signs but signs aren't points and signs aren't fucking signs are like we're 20th in the league but did you see the first five games i know it's not the first five games have been managing spurs but his first five games have been managing this group of players uh his first five games of brighton were three losses and two draws yes i actually saw a clip on one of the many fan kind of content hanging around a stadium microphone a fan yeah and the fan was saying the presenter said are you happy roberto deserve you happy the way it's going and And he said, obviously, not happy, but have you seen how he did at Brighton when he first started?
17:38Ricky:And he was like, the first five or first seven games, and he started reeling off, and he said, I've got full trust in De Zerbe. This stuff takes time, and I'm seeing signs of it already. And I was like, that actually made me feel better. Yeah. Actually, you know, we are five games in, and I have seen signs, but I think that you know after this international break and De Zerbi's gonna have time to work with the players that aren't that haven't gone away so I kind of feel I do feel better I wish we weren't playing United away but this is probably the best time to face United with a run they're on.
18:21Ricky:So this might be where the worm turns. You never know. Yeah. I've been quite surprised by how quickly people have shifted and pivoted to the kind of anti-deserved rhetoric. As Spurs fans, you're more than entitled. In fact, you deserve to be angry about what's happening because the thing that dictates our mood as supporters is how well they're doing, what the results, not necessarily performance, but the results. And that's the case for every supporter of any football club across the globe. But I just think that, I just think it's like, give him time. Give him room to breathe. His style of football requires a deep understanding of his philosophy and the players' roles in that.
19:14It's not Sean Dyche football. It's not Sam Allardyce football where it's easier to pick up points in the short term playing that way. But the long-term success is, you know, limited because people can work you out. Like he came in to keep us up and didn't change much. He changed a couple of things, as he said.
19:35Ricky:Yeah. And we played a certain type of football. We were direct at times. And he, you know, it was clear that he understood that changing everything wholesale at that time wasn't going to help us it was completely calm in contrary to again on the overlap we're talking about how explosive he is and we're like we haven't seen that i don't think we haven't seen an explosive deserve we've seen a calm and controlled deservey since he come in really difficult circumstances so i i just i'm frustrated with the patience and i'm frustrated lack of patience certainly outside of tottenham of what he's trying to do because we when when you're listening to on talk sport about players, managers talking about other managers saying they need patience, they need time.
20:24You can't fix things overnight. And now we're talking about, I was talking about giving them patience and I was met with like incred, incredulity, incredulity. Yeah. They're incredulous. I was like, I don't understand this. I think, is this a Spurs thing? It's like, we're not allowed to be philosophical about where we're at. Or is it. 22:50Ricky:I think we live in a social media world where it's all about clicks and engagement and whereby you're going to get nothing if you say, yeah, I think we should be patient and stuff like that. Or let's all get on Tottenham now and laugh at them and kick them while they're down and watch their emotions boil over and everyone arguing and all that. Come on. And it's this big pot of hate that they're stirring up. and it's an easy win for them to do that because that and bet 365 or fucking paddy power or whoever it is that putting all these facts and figures and all the other fans can turn around and laugh and quote tweet it and spurs paid 400 million and stuff it's easy money and it's easy for kind of people to get clicks and engagement but i i it kind of helped build that narrative but then you're On a different show where you are actually expected to come up with a bit more analysis and be a bit more, I don't know, measured, you'll see people and you'll see ex-players and managers or whatever saying that you can't change stuff in five games.
24:13Ricky:and that amount of players coming in and going out and even changes within the organisational structure of Tottenham and the way we're doing different things, the medical team and all of that stuff, it all contributes. So I just feel like people do it because it's going to create engagement. The other thing that Sean Dyche said on the overlap yesterday was it has to be a mentality issue at Spurs. That can be the only thing. And I'm like, we've brought in 12 players. We've got rid of loads of players. All these players are coming into the football club and suddenly infected by a mentality issue at the football club.
24:59It just cannot, it doesn't ring true. Why is it a mentality issue of this sort of intangible that there's this mentality issue that you can just say without having to prove? and why couldn't it not be the much more logical reason for the misperformance in the first five games that these are a new bunch of players having to learn to play with each other you know, eight of our starting line-up didn't start together last year like, why isn't it the most logical and sensible answer the truth? Because I guess it's less interesting, but you'd expect a manager like Sean Dyche who's been in the Premier League who expects and demands patience for him to not give it to the Zerbi.
25:42I was just sitting there thinking, I can't believe you've managed 150 games in the Premier League. That's what I was thinking. That's literally what I was thinking. I was like, if this is... I'm not saying he doesn't understand football, but the way you're talking, it's like, I don't know.

25:57Ricky:I think it's like cliche and it's kind of immeasurable, that kind of stuff. If you were to go through, like, if he started reading off all these different stats on why he believes it's not working at Tottenham or we're not moving the ball forward or we're not doing X, Y, Z. Okay, maybe. But, like, just saying, oh, yeah, it's a mentality issue. I could go on there and say that because it's easy and you can't prove me wrong. Yeah. You don't have to justify your position, do you? Yeah. And I said that, but it was just almost like fell on deaf ears. I don't know. You should have got up and punched him.
26:37I mean, I don't think it would have gone well for me.
26:40Ricky:No, he's quite handy, actually. Yeah. It would have been good TV, yeah. All right, let's do some questions then, boy. Did you get a chance to have a little chat with him after? No, there is no chance. They wear them in and wheel them out. It's not. We don't mingle around with them. It's as it looks as on the show is that they sit on the sofa. although to be fair sometimes especially jamie carrigan like he's always like happy to to do stuff okay yeah he's i know he has a bit of a reputation for good reason but out of all of them paul skulls as well i was gonna say you had a chat with skulls only when i was i was lucky enough to be on the couch with him but not not in in any form they have a green room so they've got a place where they are and then where we are yeah yeah but you can understand it because there's like loads of food they'd get caught up and like they must do videos and shit like that all the time so is there a chance to stick a whoopee cushion on the sofa where they sit yeah probably would be oh please i'm not sure maybe when i finally quit maybe when i finally quit uh all All right, let's do some questions.
27:56Hook in Nater, he says, on an episode from last season, you alluded to an old episode where you had a lie detector test that shocked if you lied. Anyone know the episode title when it was posted? That was a great episode. My guess is it was the first episode of season four, I think. I think.
28:20Ricky:How would you even know that or remember that? I remember it being the first season. Sorry, first episode of the season. And I'm thinking of the timeline of it being around, because I was at Ball Street as well. So there'd been early days then. So I think season four, episode one is my gut feeling, but you'll have to go back and check. Yeah. It has a thumbnail that's blue, like a navy blue, and an electric bolt on it. Right. Okay. right right what did you say well no I feel like we posted the photos when we were at Ball Street we must have posted them on the Fighting Cock Instagram account could be there's one with Alex talking about being scared yeah yeah yeah yes go back on the Fighting Cock Instagram and they'll be there but I'm pretty sure it's around the start of season 4 right reddit true for you he says what disease is most likely supporting Spurs and why it's most likely is mostly is most likes for 14 spurs am I uh possum said herpes some exciting moment kicked it off but now you've subjected to a suffering which returns over and over again and there's no cure yeah that is a shout yeah I was gonna say motor neuron for sure because it's just eating away at you I've got to be honest motor neurons the thing that scares me the most oh 100 100%.
29:48Ricky:Jesus Christ. The amount of times that I'm just eating my dinner and I don't know that I'll swallow my saliva or something, I start choking a bit, and I'm like, oh, that's my throat muscles going. That's it. I'm out here. It's such a sad, horrible, debilitating disease. It's horrendous. Awful, man. Yeah, it's awful. I think maybe cerebral palsy because you're capable of incredible things, but people judge you for the way you look. That's a good shout. Yeah. Yeah. A good friend of mine has cerebral palsy and he is doing well despite people doubting him. Doing very well, in fact.
30:38Mashboire67 says, between the fighting cock and Lads Anonymous, there has been much chatter recently about grown men shitting themselves. I, however, have never shat myself, am I missing out? Just you wait. It'll happen to you when you least expect it as well. Unless Mash Bowls 67 is the year that he was born, then maybe he won't. It's just like you feel fine, but you realise that eventually, as you age, your body starts to fail you. And it's your arsehole that is the first to go. yours has been going since the early 20s oh yeah yeah yeah yeah very early 20s yeah yeah but um you're not missing out at all the panic the hot wicklet the hot the hot snake snakey brown snakey liquid comes out and burns your asshole and you're like why is it so hot it's because because inside in a body core the temperature of our is really warm i think it's that's 37 degrees centigrade if you're out in the sun it's 37 you are scorching yeah it's really
31:43Ricky:weird you're saying this because earlier i was i went for a wee and while i was pissing a fly flew past my stream and it caught it and went in the toilet and i was thinking how hot is my urine as it exits my body will it burn the fly or like i don't or is it just like lukewarm water how what what is the fly thing in? Fuck! Scalded. Where's that come from? How hot is urine when it comes out?
32:12Fuck! Urine is typically between 90 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit when it comes out. Closely matching the normal internal body temperature. Fuck! Mate, you couldn't sit in the sun for more than 10 minutes in 100 degrees Fahrenheit. wow yeah so it probably got scorched I think the fly went away and then it's dead okay you did that to a fly today yeah
32:43Ricky:it was his fault he fucking sweated he flew into it not like I'm just standing in my garden just trying to piss on flies what hang on a second you were in the garden when you were pissing in your back garden no but I just assumed that's where flies normally hang about no they hang about indoors don't they well especially my house fucking hell I've never known initially like a fruit fly invasion is a problem yeah and do you know why it's a problem because obviously they're eating rotten fruit and stuff like that but it's when you're trying to watch telly and it just flies in front of your eyes and you can't get it you can't get the little cunt Ristifer Throbin what a name Ristifer Throbin good there was a take on View from the Lane that they should scrap the trumpet at the start of matches because there's a negative psychological association with losing ever since they started doing it.
33:34I think there may be something to that and feel like we should switch to singing Can't Smile About You since it's become associated with us as an expression for how fans feel about the club. And I think we should, I think he said, we should switch. Sorry. And I think it would be a welcome change. Thoughts on that? If it's the fucking trumpet that is the reason, then nothing makes sense. Do you reckon there's any kind of psychological thing behind it. I don't, whenever I hear the trumpet now, I'm not like, get in boys. I'm like, here we go again. Yeah,
34:08Ricky:it's James Moore, this is, who is, he's the anti-trumpet. I quite like the trumpet and I haven't really made the connection, if I'm honest. You know what I'm more annoyed about? It's probably the lack of cohesion and coaching of the players. Sorry, the drum. I don't know where it is I don't think it's there anymore I don't think it's been there for a while it annoys me yeah I mean we need a drum we need a drum and it needs to be embraced and supported by the football club like it used to be yeah like there was times in the in the noughties I think late 90s maybe with that drum in the corner on the shelf it would just be the the rhythm of the crowd yeah like even if you don't like it it's fine you don't like it but you cannot like Like, you cannot complain about the fans not supporting the club or the players on the pitch or booing, and then complain, well, I don't want the drum either.
35:07I'm not sure that that is even a position where people are at, but that drum at the time, and it wasn't going on. People think it was just going constantly. It wasn't. It was whoever had the drum, and it was, you know, a couple of people we know, don't speak to often enough actually in these days, but, you know, we had a close connection with the guy who did the drum. I think he's the second guy. Dan. Yeah, Dan. I think they're both called Dan as well. Yeah, they are actually. They're two drummers and both of them are called Dan. But he would, like all of us in the ground, would be able to sense when Tottenham were really up.
35:46And that's when it would start going. It wasn't just constant, regardless of what was happening. It would get a feeling, like we'd get a corner, a shot, and we're building it. You go, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do. Do you know what I mean? Because the club is so sensitive, or they have been previously, about encouraging Spurs fans to use the word yid, when it's used in every single game and always has been for decades. They don't need to be so sensitive about it. But that, you know, it used to get you going, and it would be a rhythm for the crowd. and it was like... Yeah.
36:29Huge. Huge. Huge. And it would just start to grow. It would like help people. Yeah, you're right. Bringing it back would be an incredible thing.
36:38Ricky:I totally forgot about that speed drumming. Rashad Gulp. Fucking wallet egg. Come on, yeah, come on. Yeah.
36:53uh bb yep he says no question just wanted to fake uh say thank you for normalizing being an adult man with ibs it can be a very isolating and shit yourself in to shit yourself in public but knowing that flab and ricky are constantly at risk of exploding in their pants makes you feel like i'm not alone i don't have ibs i shit myself once right so don't i'm not in your gang bb yep i am I do support you. Ricky, on the other hand, he's you and him brothers about me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Slow Try says, if you put all of the effort and time you've invested in Spurs into something else, what are some of the things you think you could have achieved?
37:34It's like 10 ,000 hours into playing the piano. You'd be a master at it. I don't know. I wouldn't change anything.
37:44Ricky:I'd be fishing. You'd be fishing? I'd have caught a 40-pound carp by now. Isn't that just luck, though? No, it's not luck. I saw a reel the other day with a bloke. He's fishing. Yeah. And some other geezer with a remote-controlled boat put bait in his swim. Oh, I know the one you're talking about. Is that allowed? No. That is such bad etiquette. Is it? He couldn't have seen where he was. but there was a drop before dc that's where that's fucking so bad so to give you a bit anyone who doesn't know fishing i don't know really but i watched this video and i did think of you and i thought of uh our fellow friend billy um who's uh what's his uh instagram bill grim bill grim yeah he knows his stuff um anyway there's these rods that are pointing in a certain direction and then there's this little boat apparently you're allowed to do this as a fisherman now ladies and gentlemen is remote control boat and drop bait in an area to attract fish so you can catch them that is cheating yeah it's cheating is it do you agree yeah yeah yeah for sure yeah bill doesn't agree no no he likes the boats i don't know if he wants to stop them but we want to stop the boat it does make sense yeah uh yeah so um sorry my phone's ringing right okay further questions
39:12Gully Rhythm he says if you want to punch one journalist or pundit in the face just to shut them up who would it be Sam Matterface
39:20Ricky:I don't really know a lot of Gabby Abungalor yeah Gabby yeah Gabby someone said free punch Cundey nah so I'm going to tell you behind the curtain Jason Cundey I know he's going to irritate a lot of people because he's on he's performing but outside of the studio he's really really lovely like really takes time to uh unless he's just it's all bravado and he he doesn't actually give a shit but he does take wow really yeah nice really nice geezer like shakes around and uh and uh yeah interesting now i would have i yeah i wouldn't have thought that i would have thought it'd have been um arrogant and kind of like much not like his uh on radio a persona, but close to it.
40:03Yeah, no, not at all. Really nice. Big Ange Bostacoglu says, Darren Fletcher, him and Ali, drive me up the wall. Yeah. I'd agree with that completely. You know who you're talking about, don't you? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Why don't you say anything then?
40:22Ricky:Because, well, we were talking about it the other day on the pod. You said, Darren Fletcher, not the one who plays for Man United.
40:32it's so funny you say that because i was i was listening to that pod driving in and that bit i was like oh god that was shit why did i say that obviously everyone knows it for you to then say that really dagger to my heart sorry it's all right i deserve it but uh bit few says if each of the lads could bring one player that played under potch during in the prime era of the late 2010s, an ad to the current squad, who would it be to get us out of this mess? One player from that era. Before this,

43:06Obviously, it's Kane. Yeah, it's Kane.
43:08Ricky:I don't want to say Kane, but it's Kane. It's Kane. As Phantom Fox says, it's not even close. If you can't pick Kane, and Rude says, why is this even a question? If you can't pick Kane, who is it? It's Son off the left. Yeah, I mean, those are the obvious. Kane and Son. It's Dembele in midfield. There's so many. Dembele in midfield. I still hold a massive torch for Jan. Yeah. Yeah. I just thought he was, you know, that silent leader. Got a massive cock, he has the hand. The hand. He tucks it in his football sock. The hand. The hand. He shagged his bird and now she's dead. He swings his cock around his head.
44:00Jan Vertongue. Tottenham Superman. I've said that on the pod before and people had a go at me for being misogynistic. But it's just what was sung in the... I'm not saying it was a great song.
44:13Ricky:No. I'm just saying that was what we were singing in the stands at the time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Historical, if anything. Yeah. You know. You wouldn't have a historian, would you? Not for just reporting the news, no. No, exactly. This happened then. It's not useful. I'm just a messenger. Yeah. Pastra Middreams, he says, how are you spending your free time on the weekends that will usually be filled with existential dread and suffering? What have you been doing? What are you doing this weekend, Rick? Well, normally what I do is, you know, the same as most weekends and just scrolling social media and then watching old, well, watching reels of old times at Tottenham where it used to be good, like watching Jan Dutton again.
44:58Ricky:I'm surprised about the amount of Tottenham content that you've been watching and sharing, actually, Rick. I'm starting to understand why you're so miserable and sort of hamstruck by Tottenham. Why? Go on, tell me. I don't even share that much Tottenham content. Yeah, you do. You press, oh, this happened, and then, oh, and T's the fucking same. It'll be like, oh, look at this breakdown of Weissberg. Oh, fuck off, will you? Absolute fucking, like, you go through your messages now. Oh, my name's Ricky. What did I do on the Tuesday after we'd just been beaten by Villa? I listened to Rule the Roost and View from the Lane, and I feel terrible because of it.
45:37That's what happened.
45:38Ricky:Well, because you need to listen. What was you hoping to hear that you didn't see with your own eyes? Well, I thought that maybe I could hang my hat on a few things. That maybe it might be, okay, we didn't do XYZ, but the XG was good. Okay, got that. And how did you feel after listening to it? Terrible. Absolutely terrible. um and this is the thing is what you need what people are going to talk about when they make podcasts is exactly how they feel which is they're right right and you can listen to it or don't listen to it yeah but i the last thing i want to do and i don't understand why people listen to this after we lose i've been accused of being a happy clapper and i'll get it i i wear that like a badge of honor i will yeah but um yeah man i'm not i'm not gonna after like it's like i don't know like watching your bird your bird cheats on you and then someone says oh there's a someone's made a videotape of it do you want to watch it yeah go on then yeah and then you're like oh god it is it is that bad and someone says I've got another angle of it it might it might it might be different like she didn't enjoy it there's a close up of her face and you're watching you're like oh god it's even worse second angle's terrible yeah so that's that's an accurate that's fair isn't it yeah it is fair yeah yeah stop doing it to yourself that is fair Lucero de Paris he says are we being overly optimistic of the level of quality we have in the squad by assuming that Dequi Xavi and Mathers look to come back just as good as they were pre-injury or should we accept that even they may be part of the larger rebuild which will require a lot more patience getting back into the top 8 yeah I think that's fine it could be that's a fair fair assessment of the situation.
47:36I think Xavi especially, because he's young, will come back stronger. Madison and Kulisevsky is a different question. We have to be proved wrong and hopefully be proved wrong. But yeah, all of this is a massive part of a rebuild and those players, certainly not Xavi, but the other two may be a part of an extended clear out. Imagine three months from now, our most
48:03Ricky:in-form players, undroppable players is Madison, Kulusevsky, Xavi and Odeber. When's Odeber back? I don't know. He needs me back now. Wait, wait. I heard November. Well, I say I heard November. PremierLeagueInjuries.com told me he's scheduled to back in November. Well, let's bring that forward, shall we? He was class before he was injured, so that's all good. it's getting back Dave and Deez he says will you ever team up the extra inch guys for a collab podcast called the extra inch sorry the fighting cock the extra inch of cock why do you think they're called the extra inch Dave yeah do you think there's not maybe you didn't realise that we were all together at some stage unite us unite the clans yeah yeah so So, I mean, your head's in the right space, as it stands.
49:05Why, you said you're scared of the extra inch. Oh, me? Yeah, you're scared of the extra inch. Hell no. No? No, no, no, no. What, nothing else to say?
49:15Ricky:I don't really know what else to add, you know. I mean, just make something up, see if you can. Right, okay, I'm in a fantasy league with Windy and Bardi. Are you getting up? NPL, I'm second. Who's top? windy by a couple of a couple of points but I'm not going to say who I'll just say I've never had a gooner in my team I never have gooners in my team oh okay so that's scandalous although it is an open league so you can check sure wow yeah that's in my book null and void if you have gooners 100 % I don't I don't even know your team exists yeah I mean anyone can win but do you want to win in that way?
49:59Yeah. I'm not sure.
50:00Ricky:Yeah. All right, on that, we can wrap this up. Thank you very much, Ricky. Good. And we'll see if we can kind of really squeeze out some content in the next couple of weeks or so. But yeah, thanks for staying with us. We've actually got a very big episode of The Lab coming out on, should be Tuesday afternoon. So sit tight if you want to get that immediately as it comes out go over to the lab on spotify or apple wherever you get your podcasts and follow it because it's an exciting episode i'm looking forward to it immensely i'm excited you're excited yeah very excited good cheers mate bye
50:55Ricky:F-I-G-H-T-I-N-G F-I-G-H-T-I-N-G
51:08Ricky:We're the fighting cock and we don't give a fuck Like a top drawer whore when she don't see box Everybody wanna come and run it but they're funny Like a dummy in the barbie or your mommy Fighting cock and we don't give a shit Everybody knows flat bait's a prick We can get a sticky in the mini, suck a willy When you're getting grilly, yeah, you're gonna bang the milly Fight, fight

Flav and Ricky are keeping each other sane through the international break. We discuss the prospect of Kulusevski’s return, what he could bring to De Zerbi’s side and why patience seems such a difficult sell when it comes to Tottenham. Flav reports back from a frustrating encounter with Sean Dyche on The Overlap, and we question whether “mentality” actually explains anything.
Plus, your questions on bringing back the drum, binning the trumpet, which Pochettino player would rescue this team, and why listening to more Spurs podcasts after a defeat might be making everything worse.
