1:34Paddy:You got greedy.
1:37Tony Bellew:Welcome to the good, the bad and the football. Joining us today, former WBC Cruiserweight Champion and the only fella on earth who dislikes running more than Scolese. Tony Bellew good to see you thanks for coming on mate thanks for having me thanks for having me I've got to be honest could have done me here last Monday with these two they were at each other talking about sports we like to watch on the telly it got a little bit thirsty Tom I was nice and calm
2:06Nicky:but Nicky's lost his head didn't he cricket do you like cricket
2:10Scholesy:be honest Tom be honest we're amongst friends it's not for me mate it's not for me rest my case
2:15Nicky:let's move on Paddy I'm with you on man I hope so what I said last week about people I don't like cricket yeah yeah you're best on someone you don't I can't believe
2:25Scholesy:you don't like running I fucking hate running you fucking had that not like when you were on a fucking football pitch no I didn't did you not watch me I played I played because I was 12 running it's amazing you hate running I can't stand it
2:37Tony Bellew:I don't like running that's why he had to be that good of a footballer just to make up remember
2:42Nicky:Scoles in pre-season the first two or three days in pre-season honestly he was quite a mile behind the whole group weren't you at the start it was you keen he was always shocking at running around a start about a quarter of a mile behind us all and then just coming back terrible on gb squads
2:58Scholesy:it's horrible because you get up at like five six o 'clock in the morning and the whole squad turns up so it's two it's two of each weight yeah and i'm i'm just not a good runner mate and i don't like it as well it's just even worse and they used to put us in like the back to the front line so you know the whole squad's in a line and you've got to spin from the back to the front and all the
3:16Tony Bellew:fartling
3:16Scholesy:and we go round the big bowl and half of the bowl's uphill and half it's downhill and this run would go on for a good 40-50 minutes and you know when you've got them little pricks and them flyweights and they're running and these little knobheads get to the front and they speed the jog up you're supposed to get to the front and the coach is watching Bill you get your fat ass out of front and I'm just saying you prick you've never got it in your life you fucking hell I'm not a runner to punch people in the face of brick.
3:47Tony Bellew:Oh, mate, yes. How many miles as a boxer do you, so if you've got a championship fight or any fight coming up, how many miles are you putting in on the road a week?
3:58Scholesy:It differentiated. When I was making light heavyweight, I would be running a minimum of five miles a day, six days a week, minimum. Fucking hell. But then I would be up at half and one, empty stomach. My routine at light heavyweight to cruise weight was completely different and then the routine at heavyweight was even different again. I would when I went to cruise weight I would run to improve your cardiovascular fitness when I was a lightweight I would run to attack the weight so I'd be up at half five and one empty stomach and I'd be out running anywhere between five and seven miles
4:27Tony Bellew:what weight to boxing and it's just a rant just where you're saying that then forget weirdly the actual fighting but for training for a certain weight who has it the worst as in like as in to make that weight if you're like a featherweight a welterweight heavyweight middleweight whose training is more intense to keep that weight all the time everyone hits the same point at some point
4:52Scholesy:you'll get to the stage where you get to the point where there's not much left to lose Kerry Kayes was one of the most valuable people in my team he was with me for my whole career and I remember making weight for the last time I made weight at light every 12 stone 7 was for Adonis Stevenson and I'd hit 12 stone 7 on the Wednesday before the Friday weigh in and I phoned Kerry. I said, Kerry, I've hit the weight and I don't know what I'm supposed to do now. I can't obviously stay at this weight. I've got to have something to eat. And he said, right, on the Wednesday night, eat two boiled chickens and 500ml of water.
5:26Scholesy:So I had two boiled breasted chicken and this 500ml of water. I put that in and then I got weighed about an hour and a half, two hours later. I was 12 stone 12 after them. The fucking food didn't weigh five pounds and I gained five pounds. What I put in my mouth didn't weigh five pounds. Yeah. And I got up on Thursday and I said, Kerry, I'm 12, 12 and I haven't lost no weight in my sleep. And he said, Tone, he said, I'm not being funny, but you've shocked your body. It ain't coming off now unless you're forcing to get it off. Got to the Friday morning, thought I'll lose a bit of weight in my sleep.
5:59Scholesy:Got up at about half six on the Friday morning before the weigh-in. Still 12, stone 12. Not an ounce has come off. In your sleep, you usually lose a pound and a half on a normal sleep. he says to me go on see what you can do I'm on the treadmill for an hour and a half in a sweatsuit nothing's come off and the only reason I could do it was because I'd had that chicken and that water in my body nothing's come off like a couple of ounces have come off I'm still a few pounds over he said to me I said Kerry what am I going to do if I fail wait I'm not fighting with the WBC title this is my dream title you know I'm away from home I'm odial to all against me and the stress of that as well he said to me I can get it off you but this this is the only way you can do it he said pour a bath so hot that it burns you to get in and get as much salt as you can so I went down to the hotel the hotel restaurants and said to him can you give me a kilo salt just give me a bag of salt as big as you can give me give me a bag so I'm roasting a bath made on a kilo of salt in the bath and I sat in this bathroom it was up to me waste it burnt me yeah i remember having the ipad at the end of the bath and i was watching kevin hart on the ipad and i was laughing at his jokes and then crying yeah i i i i think it's the closest i've ever come to a break what does salt do then the salt draws the moisture out of your body and your pores when i sat in this bath scolsey it was so hot the water was coming out my face me head yeah it was just falling on my body i didn't even need to put my whole body in the bath i just sat up to the air and it was so hot and I got out after I think I don't 13 or 14 minutes in this pop-up it was that hot and believe you mean that doesn't sound like much but I had lost four and a half five pound in this bathroom 15 minutes I got on the scales and I was smack bang on 12 stone 7 got to the scales I remember knocking Eddie in arrived on the morning the way and I knocked on his door I had me two men who were with me I had me coach and I got him me right on side and I have Fran behind him and I've knocked on Eddie's door knocked to get him and he's looked at me and he's given me a hug and he hadn't seen me I'd been away from for six, seven weeks in camp in New Jersey I was living and he hugged me and he went Tony you look great and as he's hugged me he's looking at the two fellas behind me and I could see him shaking his head I could feel him I could feel the lying bastard shaking his head at the two lads behind me and he must have just thought you are dead at the weight and that was the last time I made it but make him wait and he's like Why are your legs pink?
8:31Tony Bellew:I was just, I was there. It's funny that, because you hear about, like, boxing, you know, sitting in saunas and stuff like that. The stuff that you've got to do those last couple of days, it's so extreme. It's got to, like, detract a bit from your performance in the ring, or does it not?
8:49Scholesy:No, it does. Like, I got in the ring against Adonis Stephenson, and I knew before I was walking to that ring, I had, at best, four good minutes in me. I've got to fight for 36 I've got to fight for 4 good minutes and I had to give it everything I had
9:03Tony Bellew:That's that warrior mindset I just knew yeah
9:05Scholesy:and in me stupid mind boxers are the greatest liars in the world because we lie to ourselves we actually tell ourselves we've got a chance here you know when you see the lads turn up at the way or sorry the press conference and they go I'm in the best shape ever I've had the best camp ever you're lying bastard you haven't you've gone through hell your body's at breaking points you're super fit but you've detracted that much weight from your body and that much water you feel like shit and you're sitting here going I feel great I've done this in camp I've done that in camp the truth and the fact of the matter is if I would have turned up to every press conference or the last press conference and told them how I really felt they'd go he's fucking dead tomorrow he's got no chance but as I said we lie and we lie to ourselves
9:44Tony Bellew:Right let's talk about a game that drove me mad Spurs City 2-2 as a neutral I'm thinking right City Spurs are on a bad run City will turn up do the business they were 2-0 up and I'm thinking it'll make the title race really exciting and then bang 2-2 ruined it
10:04Nicky:ruined football I thought it was a great result for Arsenal the day before I know I thought it was a great result after where they'd been
10:09Scholesy:I'm interested who do you used to want to see winning
10:11Nicky:Arsenal
10:12Scholesy:really after the after the City Liverpool
10:16Nicky:no but Arsenal's it
10:18Scholesy:you and Arsenal were like that and their fans are just going to be oh and they winning the Arsenal unbearable it's no one's going to it's done now isn't it but when you look at our choices
10:29Nicky:I know City Liverpool not so much Liverpool this year Arsenal it's got to be Arsenal
10:35Tony Bellew:great win I thought I thought you'd want I know it sounds crazy saying City
10:42Scholesy:no god no that's bonkers that's the last team all the Scouts all my Coppa mates they won City all my Coppa mates won City which is amazing because of Manchester I can understand that Liverpool rivalry, but they just made Arsenal.
10:58Tony Bellew:But I think that result they had against Leeds, you're going, big, big result. And then City do that. And again, City, it's almost like you go, right, they've got to win the league now because everything else is going for them outside of the league. You say that, Pat.
11:16Nicky:Well, is City just not right? They've won once in six games.
11:19Scholesy:You say that, Pat, but you know what's got a big say in this race so far? The Champions League. how deep did they go in that tournament did they prioritise just go listen lad let's just get the league on done and dusted and I know you'll say there are many points ahead at the minute but then Wednesday Saturdays or Wednesday Sunday yeah
11:35Nicky:you get a bit nervous March April time I'm telling you
11:38Scholesy:what nervous against us last week and it's January
11:40Nicky:and that Marino
Read the full transcript
11:42Scholesy:that Marino's now out as well and just a couple more like listen if that Gabriel or Saliba get nudged again does a club
11:50Tony Bellew:prioritise Champions League over Premier League now No Or is that Is Premier League still the big Money I think if you've won the league
11:57Nicky:A few times City possibly But City won it last year I don't know So Liverpool So they'll be back onto the league A point does come If you win it three or four times Fuck it We've got to win that Champions League
12:08Tony Bellew:Yeah
12:09Nicky:So you think
12:11Tony Bellew:Teta's solely Focused on Premier League Premier League Yes
12:15Scholesy:Do you think he's out of a job If he slips up I don't think I think it depends
12:21Nicky:How close to get I mean
12:23Scholesy:if he loses now he'd be a record wouldn't he if he lost this league now that would be a record because if I remember rightly I mean Newcastle we're 14 points at Eddie at one stage but was that in November or something stupid yeah it was early in Christmas it was early wasn't it but if he blows this now I mean he's a great fella Michael but it's just
12:44Nicky:if he blows it I think he'll actually walk himself me go and get a new challenge six points isn't a lot though Tony is it but the problem is is that all it is now? City are the closest team but there's no you don't see them capable of going on a run do you? I haven't seen one team
13:02Scholesy:who's capable of winning 10 games on the bounce and every year we see a team like that
13:05Nicky:that's normal, City could win 20 games on the bounce like that
13:08Tony Bellew:but not anymore When you look at that game the City-Spurs game as well what's Thomas Frank done in the dressing rooms at half time to come out and perform as they did in the second half where the first half they didn't look well watching our first half
13:23Nicky:yesterday I thought it was the end of Thomas Frank I thought this could be 4-5-6 he's gone well he did change formation didn't we talk about formation a lot but he went to a back 4 didn't he from a back 5 and like we've said for ages with United playing a back 3 it's just not my United I think with Tottenham it's exactly the same they're not a back 5 a back 3 whatever it is
13:43Scholesy:a back 3 with Ammon Jesus Christ and then I didn't watch much of the Tottenham game but I'd seen I'd seen a bit to the first half and then I'd seen that goal from Solanke I mean I don't care man he's fucking turned into Robin Van Persie overnight what the hell the Scorpion Mays Arda fucking hell has he managed that Jesus Christ this fella couldn't hit a cow's ass with a badge on the team but you know what
14:04Tony Bellew:this is a controversial one though and it is controversial right I saw that goal go in now I'm not I'm not saying anything detracting anything from that goal but you are but you are right he meant that because he's looking at the corner when he's on the deck when I look at like Kevin for Fulham against your lads I'm going that goal of Solanke's when you've been playing in a game it sounds mad saying this where you flick your leg but sometimes you do that and they go in he's not in training going I'm going to practice it's not it's not it's not that way it's got
14:42Nicky:he's directing it to goal so even just by the virtue of that
14:46Scholesy:as he's at the floor he's looking to see if it's made it you know he's tried it but you know he could try another 20 of them that's it one goes on the fucking towards the halfway line the other way snap time string
14:56Tony Bellew:one time have you two ever played in a game where you've been down in the first half and you've come at the second half
15:03Nicky:Tottenham away Tottenham again Tottenham away
15:06Tony Bellew:3-0 down
15:07Nicky:so what happened at half time
15:08Tony Bellew:for you to I went off
15:11Nicky:I brought my rib two ribs I brought my rib honest to god obviously with the boxing doing it I never knew how painful that would be. Remember the midfielder, he went right into me late. And do you know when you're trying to show you're not hurt? Yeah. But I couldn't. I was doing that. Sickening.
15:27Scholesy:So I went off 3-0.
15:28Nicky:I went off with 1-5-3, so it might be something to do with Irish shite. Sleeping is the worst part of that injury
15:32Scholesy:when you get when you're laying on every night. You know when you sleep on the side, what's okay? And then you sleep, you roll over, and mate, you soon wake up and you're in a way of the shit. Oh yeah. There's nothing you can do about it, I reckon.
15:43Nicky:No, you're just there. You can't do anything.
15:45Tony Bellew:So what did Sir Alex say to you then at half time? Or did he not have to say anything? I didn't say you better win this fucking second half.
15:52Nicky:I don't think he expected us to go and win, but he wanted us to get a goal back and win it 1-0, so we get beat 3-1 example. But the lads would... You know what Tottenham are like, aren't you? Three and up at half time. Oh, yeah. They'll be drinking champagne at half. Sounds like fucking H &M. We always felt once we got one against anybody, two and three could come, maybe not five.
16:14Scholesy:yeah what's the craziest years have seen him go at half time like who's the one player he's most I'm I've listened to use a few times now I'm told you're basically his pet he never bollocked you did what's that who's the player without saying the back of obviously the famous kick in the bootball he obviously no chance he fucking meant that but who's the player you've seen him go and and he's lost it to be fair if you go back at him hmm he'll come back at you
16:41Nicky:even like you he will put you on again so sometimes if you're quiet and be clever just sit back and set it's done okay but if you have a little nibble back which quite a few lads did it just fucking go imagine keane would have done that a couple of times do you know what no i don't think i don't think i had a lot no i think ginsy had a bit didn't he was gigsy would answer back so gigsy got a bit yeah that surprised me he doesn't come across as that nicky would answer back i got a bit off him yeah you've got to be just got to be just whatever without sure the fuck once I was going back in I think we tell you showing was that next me our backs and scones just quiet quiet I'm going fucking and it's going and the end is tournament one more word are you fucking sold I went just like that I'm nothing you sold and you're going I'm not going to West Ham once you Henningberg got it but never play for this club again so a few was going out yeah I got that when I was 15
17:40Tony Bellew:during the game or half time like he's got to have seen something in that player for weeks before but you know something
17:46Nicky:it was clever because he'd do it to the ones that he knew he'd get a reaction out of and the lads that didn't need that he wouldn't do that to them he'd put their arm round him as a way out and say come on get yourself going or something he was chatting me once he took me off at half time against Sheffield, remember Sheffield Wednesday away I had the worst fucking half of my life so about three days later I'm walking past his office he probably for half time had a shitter and he went what the fuck was up with you the other day I went what do you mean he went I fucking thought you had two left feet I thought I fucking knew the fuck's he he just ruthless I found that was the worst thing someone could say to you after the game if you've been shit the night before and you see him in the morning breakfast you try to avoid him at all costs what the fuck was wrong with you last night what do you say to him does that happen in boxing as a coach
18:31Scholesy:or has the coach
18:32Tony Bellew:got to G you up all the time
18:34Scholesy:no Pad you have a shit night in boxing you wake up in an ambulance yeah what happened to you I got knocked out when you get
18:43Tony Bellew:that little bit of an insight into the corner during a fight and you can see the coach is that sometimes where they'll go
18:50Scholesy:you're losing sometimes you know what I see a lot of cheerleaders in boxing now and there's very few I like to call them you get loads of great padmen and loads of loads of great back slappers there's very few actual teachers left in the game now and I'm talking very very few especially in our country I was very fortunate that I had a brilliant professional coach in Dave Caldwell and although I gave him the reins he knew I was very strong and he knew I had a lot to say and he knew I understood boxing as good as anyone he could but I gave him the reins sought my training out identified the Spartan partners I'm paying you to do a job do the fucking job and I gave him the I gave him the reins to do it so it can be difficult I mean I look at me world title fight at Goodison Park and that was a proper make or break moment I go into that fight I've been nervous for two fights in my whole entire life I've got a bit of a screw loose all views I just fucking admit it I love fighting fighting excites me if someone was to ask me to have a scrap I'll fucking smile on my face and let's go and do it.
20:00Scholesy:I'm fucking made up. You have got screwing loose. Yeah, I definitely have. So with Dave, as I said, I gave him the reins. Going into that Goodison Park fight, like I said before, I'm never nervous, but Goodison Park meant everything to me. Oh, that's massive. I've been going to Goodison Park every other week since I was fucking 10 years old. Since I Craig took me and cursed me, the fucker. I didn't choose Everton. Everton chose me. no one fucking chooses to support everything we're a special breed as I tell my kids one's here watching me it's character building son that's why you're as strong as you fucking are but I love me club and I love everything about us but walking the ring that night like I've been telling people since I was 15 years old I'm going to box at Goodison Park I'm going to win the WBC title at Goodison Park and bear in mind no one's had a fight at Goodison Park no one's had a legal sanctioned fight at Goodison Park loads of bad scraps in them fucking stands on something like that but no one's had a fight so when I was walking the ring that night my arse was twitching I'm lucky I didn't shit myself walking to the ring I was that nervous
21:02Tony Bellew:did you have the Z cars on
21:03Scholesy:yeah I always come out to Z cars that's always the sound I have and er I was walking you were in the first team dressing room yeah that was one of the thing he always had put and I'd been in the dressing room I'd been around the lads for years obviously I'd been training Moise was the first person to allow me into Finch Farm all them years ago so I'd been going Finch Farm for 15 years er when the fight was done yeah I was nervous mate I was absolutely shit myself I'd studied the Lunger McCabe he was a massive favourite with the bookies I think he was 3-1 or something like that I get in the ring with him and I'm having a belt of first round he's a southpaw he's the worst style I can face the same as Adonis who beat me by stoppage in the previous world title fight and I'm on top of him I'm nailing him bang bang shots are going in I've hit him with the body shot left hook underneath and he makes that noise you want to hear it's a fighter you hit someone in the body and you go oh you fucker you got me there and you just hope you've broke his ribs because then he'll constantly be wary of it so I've got him once and I bounce back out and we're about a minute and a half into the first round and I think right I'm on top and I knew by studying him I've got to get rid of this fella in the first five rounds because if I don't get rid of this fucker in five rounds he gets stronger as the fight goes on and he's a southpaw he's a big puncher and the bastard's going to get me in the back end so I've got to get him in the first five rounds I've studied him meticulously like I said my boxing brain's my strong point we're two minutes into the round I've got him on the ropes again bang bang bang touched him with an uppercut which just knocks his head up slightly and then whack another body shot goes in he's made the noise again I'm fucking flying this is going to go I fucking as I'm backing up I've basically just put my chin I feel it now even when I look back I've lifted my chin in the air I should have might as well put a fucking bow on the chin and went and hit me right there I've lifted my chin up in the air my hands are coming down because I'm admiring my work coming out and this fucker's come out the clinch from the body shot and he's just looked and his eyes just open up like that mate and he just brings this left hand over and it was coming in slow motion and I just thought as I seen it start coming I just thought stupid bastard you've left yourself open you've gone and done it and it just goes and it lands on impact it snaps my nose on impact then it pushes down to my chin and it just knocks my jaw back and my legs just collapse underneath me first round's going great and now I've been folded like a deck chair.
23:22Scholesy:I drop on the floor and I roll over backwards. I'm surprised the judges didn't put a fucking 10-10-10 card on my gymnasts. I'm on the floor and I'm just like, fuck's sake, I've jumped up and the referee's gone, I'm up at three. After rolling on my back backwards, I'm up at three and the referee's gone, three, and I've gone, move out the way he's fucking had it. And the referee's gone, four, and I've gone, I've just told you, move out the fucking way. I've gone, five, and he's gone, you're nuts. Six, seven, and I've gone, I'm all right. bang the bell goes goes back to corner now bear in mind I'm naturally a fat fucker I've always been a fat kid all my life I'm just a greedy fucker I love food I love sweets I'm a fat kid I'm a fat kid who's lost weight to have a fight goes back to corner and I've got little legs in my face and the last thing I need reminding is that I'm a fat bastard at this stage of my life I'm in the most important fight in my life Goodison Park and this fucking little fella Dave Caldwell has got it in my face he's got this close and he's got the fucking Sheffield voice you got greedy you got greedy no that's Sheffield voice mate I was this close to my face and I said fuck I never got greedy and I'm like alright and he said why you get greedy and I was like I was going to the finish and I'm back and forth with him now I'd be lying to you if I said I knew anything after that that's the only thing I remember in the interaction in between rounds I goes out for round two after the fight was over I thought I knocked him out of round two I was that concussed after knockdown I knocked him out in round three I come out for round three I have no memory of round two crazy I have to watch round two back to know that it happened so I've come out for round three round two's a blank I don't remember anything he said in the corner at the end of round two I don't remember nothing I come out for round three I've clipped him on the top of the head again his legs have gone a little bit wobbly and he backs up and if he backs up I know he's here because he's a come forward fighter and he's an aggressive counter puncher.
25:20Scholesy:So I nailed him, he's back on the ropes and I've got him on the ropes again. I've whacked him in the body, I'm whacking him in the head and I've hit him with this left hook. Fuck off. I've hit him with this left hook. Mate, this punch would have knocked the fucking horse off. I've hit him so clean and he's just gone, it hit him and he's just gone. Yeah. Mate, it's just like instantly, boom, he's gone. What's the relief like when that happens?
25:41Tony Bellew:Even if you're on top, but when it's like when your boxers go, you know, you've knocked them out in the first round and it's like, oh, it was over too quick. But are you thinking, thank God, that's me done?
25:52Scholesy:That word you just used there, that's the first thing I felt, relief.
25:56Tony Bellew:Yeah.
25:57Scholesy:Because I've been labelled a bullshit in all my life. Everyone's labelled me the bullshit, and he talks, he says this, he says he's going to do that. All the things, like I said, from 15 years of age, I've been telling people, I'm going to fight for the WBC world title at Goodison Park. And I've had people see me, how the fuck are you going to do that? You're just a fucking amateur boxer. Or you've just won a British title. you've been beefed for two world title fights already how the fuck are you going to do that and I'd be like you'll see I'm going to do it I'm going to do it when that left off lands that means I've won British Commonwealth European and I've won the WBC world title at Goodison Park like I said and that makes me guess what I'm not a bullshitter everything I said I do I've done and when I drop to my knees that's the relief he's a kippie he's out well I've hit him I've given two more when he's on his way down he's going to do it to me so I'm going to fucking do it to him and I just drop to my knees and I just think, lad, you've done it.
26:49Scholesy:Like, all my dreams, because that was me life on Goldpuff.
26:51Paddy:I'm R.J. Decker, a private investigator uncovering the sunshine state's darkest secrets. Tuesdays, it's the premiere of ABC's hottest new crime show. R.J. freaking Decker as I live and breathe. He's a private eye. It's not a standard murder. It's someone bigger. And a public mess.
27:09Tony Bellew:Trying to get sent back to prison today?
27:11Paddy:You go to prison one time and suddenly it's all the jokes. R.J. Decker, series premiere, Tuesdays on ABC and stream on Hulu.
27:46Paddy:Book now at Hilton.com. Hilton, for this day.
28:14Tony Bellew:all the people you said that to, people like, not even in the box world, you might have said it to someone down at the pub. People in school. Yeah, exactly. And you're like,
28:22Scholesy:we're colleagues. Done it.
28:24Tony Bellew:Done it. It's like, amazing.
28:25Scholesy:There's very few people I've met in life, you two will be touring other ones, and Paddy, you will have as well. I've lived me lifelong goal and dream. I've seen it through. You must walk and I'll talk to you after the first time. I've done it. And if I close my eyes now and I just think of that moment, the moment at Goodison Park, the singing of Z cars, I have rap music on when I'm warming up for a fight so loud that it's deafening and it's every, fuck you, bitch, I'm going to kill you with this, I'm going to smash your face in, I'm going to blow this up. It's like you walk into a room and it's chaos.
28:58Scholesy:I want to kill the world when I'm fighting. I've got a switch on me back. Like I said, I'm really nice, but there's a switch that's got flicked on me back and it's time to just turn nuts. Did that fight go to plan then?
29:09Nicky:I know you got hit. I was wondering, with David Cot, who decides tactics in your fight? Because you say you're studying. Is it you? I study. Is it both? How are you going to go about it?
29:18Scholesy:He studies and I'll study and then we'll come together and talk about it and we'll figure it out. But for that fight, I just knew exactly how it was, not how it was going to go because I've foreseen, I thought I'd get him in round four or five. I didn't think I'd knock him clean and cold in round three the way I did. But it's just, like I said, when it lands and when you, certain things happen in fights where you go, you know what? The plan's changed because I'm in there, I'm doing it. It's like, I can imagine using football matches you've got a set of tactics there's a pass that's been playing you're like I know he's told me to fucking stay here but I can see there's a gap there and you take it on board sometimes that does work sometimes that doesn't work but you're the fall guy if it doesn't work you're the fucking king of the hell if it does work so there's moments like that in fights and that one thankfully it did work
30:02Tony Bellew:when you said about having that switch and stuff like what boxers have I saw that with Joe Calzaghi but that was in a fucking nightclub we were dancing to Mr Loverman and I looked over I thought I'm in fear of my life here and we're dancing to fucking a lovely song but I saw him I just saw him dancing and he started dancing to me and I thought fucking hell I'm shitting myself I could see it in his eyes I'm like because Joe Calzario for me he's obviously one of the goals but I used to think as a fan when I watched him in the build ups exactly the opposite to you I'm like come on Joe fucking say something but have a go, say something.
30:44Scholesy:He didn't take much part in the band so much, did he? No, but just delivered in the ring. Oh, mate, I think he's one of the greatest. Yeah, absolutely. Probably the greatest British fighter of all time. He was under 30, wasn't he? 46 or no, I think he was. Do you think he's because... He got a lot of strength, didn't he?
30:57Nicky:Because he wasn't a big puncher, so-called. Do you know what?
31:00Scholesy:Nick, in his early days, he was a big puncher, but his hands were smashed to bits. We had the same hand-wrapping guy called Dean Powell, who's not with us anymore, God rest the poor man. So he wrapped both of our hands, and he used to say to me you've got hands like his they're weak and small but Joe was just unbelievable Joe Calzaghe as a fighter as a specimen the style his father gets overlooked another late the brilliant Enzo Calzaghe he's another one he created like Brendan Ingle he creates styles and it's very hard for fighters to follow it all of them to follow it Billy Graham's the same they create these styles and you've got to find a fighter who's good enough to carry that style out Billy Graham has Ricky Atten Enzo Calzaghi has Joe Calzaghi, Brendan Ingle has Nassim Hamid, it's the perfect coming together and that's what they was, Joe Calzaghi at his peak is phenomenal.
31:54Nicky:What's your thoughts around all the Jake Paul kind of thing that goes, it adds to boxing as in the money and the wealth or is it becoming a bit of a circus? Joshua, this last one, as much as it's not proper boxing, you'll tell us more than anything.
32:10Scholesy:Is the money too good just to say no to? Oh, listen, it's a circus. I mean, the numbers have been dwarfed, but the biggest numbers that I've seen so far was Tyson and Jake Paul. Mike Tyson's a granddad, mate. I had respect for Jake Paul after watching that fight because Jake Paul could have hurt Mike Tyson in that last round. Mike's out, he's exhausted and he's out on his feet in the last round and Jake's just walking around after him, just tapping him with jabs. He could have took his head off. Jake Paul, you can laugh at him all you want. He's not the greatest box going. The fucker can't throw a punch.
32:41Scholesy:He can bang a little bit. And he's got this, like I said to you, he is a boxer now, whether we like it or not. And you've just got to go. And the mad bastard does believe in himself as well. He got in a ring with Anthony Joshua with tennis gloves on. For fuck's sake. You were founded by the Disney Channel, you mad bastard. and you've got in a ring with a fucking unified everywhere champion have you ever had a chance to do it
33:05Nicky:anything like that
33:06Scholesy:no I mean he made comments to Eddie Irwin I think a while back with I be up for them not fighting or anything like that but I think messing around and Eddie just went he's not the one like if he approaches me I've seen him messing around to like to Daniel Comey the MMA fighter to form an everywhere champion light everywhere champion of the world poking him and pushing him if you put your hands on me it's on like there's no messing I'm just going to chin you I'm sorry I'm not that I've said it from the start I respect you the way you respect me and I expect to be treated the way I treat others so if he touches me or says anything I'm going to fucking lamp you so I was in New York for the Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano the first fight at Madison Square Garden and I've congratulated Katie Taylor and as I come out of Katie Taylor's dressing she said well done you were amazing and well done and Amanda Serrano was walking towards me and I stopped and I went I said love what you've just done there that's one of the best fights forget about men's women's boxing women's box that's one of the best fights I've seen she went thank you champ and it just shook her hand and I don't know someone come out of me peripheral vision just out of a fire exit and he stepped this close and as I've turned it was him it was Jake Paul and he just grabbed my hands and he just went I respect you and then just walked off that's all he said to me just grab my hand I've only met him on one occasion just grab my hand I respect you because all I said to him I said to the media all I expected is to be respected and that's what he did just grabbed my hand I said the minute I feel disrespected you're getting lamped
34:29Tony Bellew:On the Spurs City, just before we move on to United, how long do you think Frank's... That bought him, getting that draw. I thought he was gone yesterday. Yeah, really?
34:40Nicky:The fixtures aren't great, are they? Looking at him now.
34:43Scholesy:Where did he go, those goals? I don't know. Where did he go? Did he wait for Poch in the summer? Probably, yeah.
34:50Nicky:Do you go back? Who are they talking to? They're like that. Robbie Keating, Robbie Keating. Yeah, Robbie Keating. He's doing a good job.
34:56Tony Bellew:I fancy Rob for that. his favourite Buck his favourite I fancy him
35:00Nicky:because he's won
35:01Scholesy:where he's been in his England it'll be interesting how Michael does
35:06Nicky:if Michael does alright United United say nah do you think he's got no chance
35:10Scholesy:of getting kept on because I think if he gets Champions League which I think he's got every chance of doing if he gets Champions League you just give him the job
35:21Tony Bellew:these ex-United lads are not having it I'll tell you they're not having it
35:25Nicky:I think he probably gets a job if he finishes second Oh that's a big call, second's a bit of a... I honestly think United will have a chance for the manager now, and they'll be in place, and it'll be a manager that's under contract with somebody else, and not free till the summer. Otherwise, why give an interim manager the job, just give him a job now. The trouble is, you need to plan for next year as well. I reckon I reckon it's Tuchel 100 % I thought Southgate was going to go there I don't think
35:59Tony Bellew:the United fans want Southgate I don't think no they don't they absolutely don't
36:04Nicky:but I think Dan Ashworth would have been a big part of that but obviously I don't think it matters
36:09Scholesy:now with fans who fans want I don't think it matters it's a business now these people the owners at our place previous owners at our place were making decisions on a whim no fan wants a draft but he says do the door at our place and the chairman the chairman didn't want why was that you know why it is don't poke him none of us wanted him through the door and I know the chairman didn't want Bill Kenwright did not want Rafael Benitez of the club but the powers that be got him in was it who was it Macheri Macheri and the other people who were in charge at the time and they ran our club making decisions on a whim I'm so happy now Everton is being run by a proper a proper business and proper football people who own another football club, know the drill, know how it's done.
36:56Scholesy:We are now a proper athlete.
36:59Tony Bellew:The Freakton Group. Isn't it amazing about that decision with Benitez where everyone, when you look at that, you go, well, obviously that is just the total wrong call. But someone upstairs, like even going way back, Brian Clough with Leeds. Do you know where you're going? No one wants it. No one wants it. I felt a little bit like that,
37:18Nicky:but I wouldn't say people want it when Mourinho came to United. I could just see him in his Chelsea kit we were going against him Mourinho was a good you worked with him didn't you you thought he was brilliant and I loved him when he was at other clubs I loved his bravado and all his press conferences he couldn't help but watch him but I'd just seen him and his staff with a Chelsea gear on we've been fighting against him
37:40Tony Bellew:I'll tell you what his team talk man management thing was to me at Socrate when he had done one with him and then he came back for the second one. He walked in the dressing room and they went, right, he's back. What are you doing then? He wasn't up. His man, he went around the dressing room saying stuff. He came up to me, he went, disaster. What? What? I went, fucking hell. Is that like, supposed to let a reverse side close go, I'll show you. He's like, fuck, disaster. I went, brilliant. Hell, a fucking million dollars after that. That's the famous Jose Mourinho.
38:20Nicky:He was fucking brilliant. He was great to be around, actually. Not like no real workaholic. He was in his office. He was designing all the training. Yeah, can I imagine that? I asked him that when he got the United job.
38:31Tony Bellew:I forget why I was with him, but I was with him for some reason. I don't even think it was soccer. It might be something else. And I said, are you going to go on? And he said, he said, me and my team, we're getting an apartment. We're up there. And he said, and that's it. Morning, noon and night, United. Family staying in London. That was one of the things
38:48Nicky:labelled that I'm not on it. He's up and down on the train all the time. He was saying to me he lived in the Lowry. Yeah, the Lowry. Sorry, yeah, that was it.
38:55Scholesy:I met him once. He was at a boxing event and I'm sitting next to Eddie and he's over there. He turns up at boxing events and he doesn't want to be seen so he was sat in the media section and I'm looking at him and I'm just looking at him and I'm thinking it's a special one and he's going come here and I'm looking down and he's going come here and I'm like that's me you've come here so I thought how the fuck does he know why I am he just gave me a hug and he kissed me on the cheek and he said to me I've loved watching you fight he said I'm a big fan he said I've been at most of your fights he said I've come to a lot of them he said and I was always rooting for you he said to me tell me you've looked after your money and I said I don't know alright you know she's got a few I'm skinned she's got a few and he went to me he went I'm so happy to hear that and I just thought amazing what a fella and there was that little interaction with him considering what he's achieved
39:47Tony Bellew:in the game he does make you feel like I remember the first time being with him at Socrate all round a table and you're going fucking hell exactly George Marie God instantly relaxes you as a laugh talks about stuff what goes on in football you're going fucking hell this is a bit of an insight do you know what I mean he's one of them he's just got a presence about him and I think going back
40:07Nicky:to the Michael one I think that's the only thing that'll let Michael down if he doesn't get a job is I think the club the situation the club's in now might need a bigger presence and a big personality who can carry the weight of that full of shoulders. Do you think for world football
40:19Tony Bellew:as well as a business, because people might look at Carrick like in Asia and they might not see him as a big manager, if you like. Do you like an Ancelotti?
40:29Nicky:United fans love him. No, I know United fans love him.
40:32Tony Bellew:One of them is a business thing now, as a name to have leading your club. You know, you hear Ancelotti or Mourinho, you instantly, no matter where you're in the world, you kind of go, oh yeah, I get it.
40:42Scholesy:It's only so long
40:43Tony Bellew:them names can come yeah the only thing is going to determine his future is how
40:46Nicky:it does he's not 50 what he will do as you can see on his present of you is very calm is very astute is much of a school is relaxed he's not gonna fear what he's gonna be doing and like school says I wouldn't have a clue what they're gonna do I just I always think they've got someone in mind when you get an interim manager in why do it otherwise the game has changed massively now I
41:07Scholesy:just don't think managers exist no more coach I said this to the lads of wake I
41:12Tony Bellew:I went 10 years down the line. I don't think there's going to be a manager on the touchline. It's worrying.
41:19Scholesy:I've witnessed some come through the door at our place now for the last, I'd say, 10, 15 years. And when Moyes went to United, I've seen dressing rooms change. I've seen the way they carry on change. I've seen how these directors of football are fucking involved. And, you know, there's a fella at our club. He was telling a Carlo Ancelotti who he fucking needs. That's unbelievable, isn't it? he was an academy manager
41:43Nicky:at United didn't he? Nick Cox yes he's there he's there now
41:46Scholesy:he's just come in now so there was Steve Walsh Steve Walsh from Leicester Walsh who comes from Leicester and he done well at Leicester but then you come from Leicester and you go you've got you've found Kante you've found Vardy you've found fucking Mahrez and all them you can find the players but then you come to Everton you're Everton are the only club in the world who could fucking spend half a billion quid and get worse
42:07Nicky:do you know what I mean?
42:08Scholesy:you have to understand that we've done that Mate, but it's because of who was in charge. When Moyes leaves Everton, the first season straight after Roberto Martinez in charge, we finished fifth.
42:18Tony Bellew:When Amherst...
42:19Scholesy:I just let you know that if you give the money to the wrong people and then the wrong people are in charge, I mean, Everton's team pad, right in that year that we finished in fifth, we'd spent 500 million and gone on how many years? It wasn't, I promise you, the team that day, I was away, I went to there, watch Everton, we were at that Volkswagen, stayed in Wolfsburg, went away. The team in goal was Tim Howard the back four was right back was Seamus Coleman centre-halves was Sylvain Distann sorry Phil Jagielka John Stones left back was Leighton Baines it might have been Sylvain anyway in the middle of the park was Gaz Barry James McCarthy left wing was Steven Pienaar right wing was Kevin Morales Ross Barkley was the 10th Romero Lukaku was the forward it was a brilliant team we won 4-0 away at Wolfsburg fucking Rom scored a few goals now we fast forward seven, eight years nine years later we've spent I think 700 million or 800 million quid and only one player gets in that team it's crazy isn't it it was Jordan Pickford it's crazy do you think
43:23Tony Bellew:when Amarin came out before he was sacked from United at the press conference where he said I was employed as a manager not a coach do you think Moyes coming back to it as that he is the manager he is the manager Moyes is when he's got like But it shows you Look at the stability At Everton Now you've got the new stadium And it's like You can just see It's a proper team now And good things are happening
43:47Scholesy:I whinged for years For him to come back Whinged for years On my social media And stuff like that And everyone's going Ah fuck off You're going backwards And I said Believe you made it And there's no disrespect To the other managers Because they've all had a go And they've all tried the best And I'll tell you something Now what Sean Dyce done At Everton When we got deducted Them 10 points Should never be overlooked because for us to stay in the Premier League when them 10 points got deducted and they made an example of us, I don't think any managers at that stage in the world could have got us out of trouble.
44:16Scholesy:It was fucking unreal. The run went on, what the lads done, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, just slotting for fun. It was unbelievable. But at that stage when Moyes comes back, he should have come back three times previously. It shouldn't have been as late as it was left in the day. He's shown you what he can do. When David Moyes was backed, he's shown you what he can do because look what he'd done at West Ham. and they were finishing in the right place now look at West Ham where they are now they're desperate for him
44:40Nicky:back now their fans
44:41Scholesy:I've got a good mate who's a massive West Ham fan Celts he's big in the boxing and he was one of the a few West Ham fans because they obviously know I speak to the gaffer and stuff like that and he went tell him he was amazing in our place and I showed the gaffer the message I said this fella's West Ham through and through all of West Ham known and he was he said they were absolutely heartbroken when he left because West Ham he said it's just a shit show the way it's been that's where you go the honest you go what
45:05Nicky:what are they doing same United I don't think he should have got sacked at United he didn't get enough time he should have got more time and also the only mistake I think he made was he didn't have anyone someone should have been there for him like McFerland do you know
45:22Scholesy:when he comes in your place and he goes there I just think it's massive because first of all when Fergie leaves that job it's a poison challenge it's like it's like someone whoever comes in like Diego Simeone at left goal whoever comes in there you you can't have a
45:37Tony Bellew:question of sport from Sue Barker
45:40Scholesy:did you say exactly
45:43Tony Bellew:short lived so what did you do fucking three serious goals it's flying now lad when Moise goes
45:55Scholesy:in I think first and foremost I mean listen I remember speaking to Wazza and if you didn't like running you will have been there that season he went in was you still there and And he does a pre-season. Well, if you was, I remember Wazza phoned me. He was one of you. Wazza phoned me and said to me, have you phoned, what the fucking hell is going on? Don't fucking phoned me. I'm not a player, you're that bastard. I said, phoned one of the lads. And he went, we've never been run like this in our lives. So the gaffer, nowadays, everyone starts pre-season with a ball. Yeah. These fuckers used to run for two weeks with no ball.
46:24Scholesy:And Moyes was one of the, I think Moyes was the last one to bring balls in. So when he went to United and then Rio's still there, there's other players and the big characters and once you shock them and then if you shock them big boys and don't put your arm from what I'm looking at you don't put your arm around them big names and big egos because managers then were managers and you're not just a manager you're a fucking ego masseuse you're a psychiatrist you're a shoulder to cry on you know when when things aren't going right you've got to be and a manager covers all them bases absolutely nowadays make a fucking player better or fuck off because I think they're making managers now as accessible as players and I think players know modern players
47:04Tony Bellew:nor managers haven't got as much power now yeah and that's why they go against them yeah exactly that's what I'm saying if you look at Man United look at Man United now
47:12Nicky:like the Man United yesterday when they got that last minute goal six weeks ago they don't win that game no chance there's no way they win that game they get beat they don't win the game but it's right when the players want to play for the manager and they want to run for the manager and run through brick walls for them I don't believe in down and tools
47:29Scholesy:because I've seen it so many times at our place I don't believe it's not that simple but what I do get is they don't want to do that extra like you know fuck them they'll just do enough
47:37Tony Bellew:yeah
47:38Scholesy:enough not to be pinpointed enough not to be gone you shithouse you were bang at it over the years it's very on a handful of occasions where I've seen a player shit out of something I've gone you shithouse you are throwing him under the bus I've seen that on a handful of occasions you don't rush back from injuries
47:55Nicky:they're always it's going to take an extra couple of weeks off when he could be actually training on the pitch
47:59Tony Bellew:you see it don't you so the 2-0 up Obviously, Fulham put it back and, again, Kevin scoring that fucking goal. Unbelievable goal. For me, again, as a neutral, I'm thinking, blow the whistle. That feels right. But you two must... Was it like a minute after? 55 seconds.
48:17Nicky:But there was still like seven or eight minutes left, weren't there?
48:20Scholesy:Do you know if you use it on that pitch? I use fucking furious with the defenders, though, because that's like schoolboy stuff for me. Watching it and you're thinking, you're at 2-2. you've got it back from 2-0 down and you go right the one job everyone's got is touch tight to a man everyone's just touch tight no space anywhere and then it's on an individual if someone fucks up it's your fault
48:43Nicky:Michael was a little bit lucky yesterday to get at Wem because if he hadn't people have been saying stuff like he made the sub after about 73 minutes and it was almost a sub it was 2-0 it's not yeah it's 1-0 it's done because he took Casemiro I was going to say the picture of the day for me was Casemiro and Cunha
49:00Tony Bellew:on the bench when that second goal went in for Fulham and they sat there and you are you're going oh over the foot it felt like he was giving players minutes
49:09Nicky:because the game was over and it fucking wasn't yeah but the feeling now as you know winning like that in the last minutes or whatever it was the fans will go on much more happier they'll be buzzing the atmosphere on the ground totally different training ground they'll be bouncing in a weird way that's a better result for Michael doing that than winning 2-0 because everyone's lifted
49:28Scholesy:how does he manage them players because Casemiro is fucking hell he's done the lot hasn't he how does Michael he's having a good season how does he manage players like Bruno Fernandes Casemiro like the big I don't know them so I don't know if they're big egos or the big talking points in the dressing room but who's the leaders and how does he manage them
49:45Nicky:I think that's the thing what Keane's getting at with the and you get a lot of stick in it about what he's saying about Michael what I think what he's saying is right it's a bit like when you're a part time manager or interim manager it's really easy to be the mate and go out to him oh come on I think you've been doing it everyone's fine but sooner or later if Michael gets the job he's then going to have to start upsetting a few people and he's got to be the boss and I think that's when it comes to difficult I can imagine people wanting to do well for Michael he's such a nice fella
50:15Tony Bellew:I think it's quite telling when the games since he's been in charge it's only been a few games but at the end of the games you always see Casemiro pretty much jumping all over Michael bugging him and Bruno and you can see there's a bond though like they like him
50:32Nicky:at the minute is the friend because he's just an interim he's a mate how I look at an interim manager is a bit like an academy coach not back in our day when we had a crazy coach who wants to kill you as a kid but modern day academy coaches they're always friends with the kids not many coaches in academy kids will go home to the park and go don't like him I don't like him dad they're all like really nice people that I help him with it and that's what an interim manager is like and I think the test will come with Michael but if he'll be able to do it he did it in Middlesbrough I'm sure he's capable is an interim manager is just a mate so that's why they all love him at the minute but the minute he starts dropping him and finding him and becoming the manager it'll change
51:11Tony Bellew:and also as well I think even if that winner Cescou scored if you go back eight games he's not scoring that for me it's the confidence thing again when you start winning and all the team lift look how Bruno did him on the right and then put that ball in because when he's received that ball that's not an easy goal to score and he's turned around and he's looked around the defender
51:35Nicky:great goal going back to a 20 minute ago about defending did you see the defender when he pulled the ball back he's literally he's just gone like that out of his foot like if you're a fuller manager and you've gone to all traffic you've been going absolutely mad you've got back from 2-0 down you've got 2-2 all you've got to do is turn the body just lazy just be touch tight
51:53Scholesy:Everyone be culpable. That's what it does me nutting these days. Don't get me wrong. I understand the game changes, whatever have you. And you're this zonal shit and you mark spaces and stuff. Zonal shit. Do you know what? You just go touch tight.
52:07Paddy:Kayak gets my flight, hotel and rental car right. So I can tune out travel advice that's just plain wrong. Bro, Skycoin. Way better than points. Never fly during a Scorpio full moon. Just tell the manager you'll sue. Instant room upgrade. Stop taking bad travel advice. Start comparing hundreds of sites with Kayak and get your trip right. Bad advice? You talking to me? Kayak. Got that right. Spring is here, and there's a whole new way to chai at Starbucks that's made perfect for you. Choose your sweetness, dial it up, or keep things light. Add a touch of pistachio, a hint of strawberry, or vanilla, or make it a spring classic with lavender.
52:52Paddy:Because this season, there's endless ways to chai at Starbucks.
52:58Tony Bellew:Gangster. Just getting back onto Everton, before we move on to a couple of other bits, Tom. As an Everton fan, when they scored that equaliser the other night and you see Moyes celebrating the way he did, oh, does that make you? Yeah, that's proper, isn't it? I like me. I want to see that from a manager. Yellow card's bollocks. Do you know the best part is,
53:18Scholesy:have you seen his uncensored interview after? No. And he just goes, it's bollocks. He just goes, you know, I'm getting fucking bucked and bollocks. He said he'd been on his knees if they'd have held up. I'll tell you what, I was... That's what it's all about. Of course.
53:33Nicky:As you look at American sport, how they celebrate it, go, I know it might be a bit too old at the top, a bit too much, but they try to bring the fun back to sport. And they try to bring the crowd back. Don't you just sit there and fucking clap? Yeah, it's like, oh, don't you? It's all right when it's your team, though, isn't it? Because I'm going back to Mourinho when we did it for Porto. Yeah. He's down the... I didn't see that.
53:50Tony Bellew:That's another reason. I didn't say it. So you saw Mourinho giving it all that? Yeah, well, no.
53:54Scholesy:Did you know about him then?
53:56Tony Bellew:No. No.
53:57Nicky:I didn't know about him until he went to Chelsea and that special one. I didn't. It's when I first met.
54:01Scholesy:I loved him and watching him. It was fucking brilliant. Even when Porto won the Champions League, I didn't, he never, I don't remember him at all. I just remember him arriving at Chelsea and going, I'm the special one. Yeah, I did. And that's what got my attention.
54:12Nicky:That was a disaster for us that night because we should have won, really. And the final, do you remember when we played the final, Porto? Fucking Monaco. where you're going easily a big one you know it's a given
54:24Scholesy:it's very rare you'll get into a championship and you go this is a given and you know it's all day means you're planning your fucking after party something
54:34Tony Bellew:I did last podcast Tom which I said at the beginning why are these laughing pads what are you doing again caused a little bit of escalation I'm going to because Yuri I feel safe now if he kicks off but I might attempt something along the same lines just as a bit of fun. I'll start it to give you an idea of how we go with it. So it's your top five sports based films. Right? Now I'm going to give you my five and then number one. I do well to think of five. Number one. Rocky 3. I know what we're getting at here. Number one. I just realised what we're getting at. Rocky 3 is my number one because I think Rocky 3 has it all it's got someone who's dead successful but then you see that decline because they take their eye off the ball you've got a brilliant baddie all corgans in there as Thunderlips Mickey dies it's got everything Rocky 3 it's got everything Rocky 3 that's my number one I fucking love Rocky 3 that's my number one number two Escapes of Victory what a film football base all the stars in there belting that's number two number three karate kid
55:57Tony Bellew:karate is a fucking sport what do you want to karate it's alright slagging off cricket you don't really want to be slagging off karate karate's a sport go on wax on wax off exactly you remember it that's number three number four Rocky four Ivan Drago in Russia what's up with that yeah exactly you remember it the brilliant training montages you wouldn't even be talking about boxing of course I would do you not like Rocky four Ivan Drago I love all the Rockies right that's number four and then number five I'm gonna go I'm still on boxing here million dollar baby what about Creed great film but you can't put it on the Mount Rushmore I know Tone's here but Million Dollar Baby's my number 5
56:55Scholesy:some fella just phoned me up Everton had just been fucking pumped by Chelsea 6-3 at home I was on my way home 13 weeks before signing for the Nathan Cleverley rematch and I was on my way to the Indian to get my last takeaway as you do Yeah, some fella fucking phoned me up and just went, I'm phoning on behalf of MGM Grand and Hollywood. Just put the phone down. I'm not asking. I can't be dealing with it. I'm not in the mood. Phoned me back again. I'm ordering me fucking samosas, me chapatis, me lamb burner. Are you thinking it's a wind-up? 100%. I thought it was a wind-up. Stop it, mate. I'm not in the mood.
57:31Scholesy:At this time now, two phone calls have happened. I'm not having it. I've phoned me bed. I've said to her, some fella's phoning me up from Hollywood about being in a Rocky movie. She went, you stupid bastard. be so fucking naive you idiot hurry up and bring the curry home the kids are waiting we're all waiting for Roger Pat everything's done do you know it's our last takeaway for the next three months phones a fourth time and er I just went listen to me where'd you get my number from I said just where'd you get my number from he said Ross Barkley I just put the phone down I phoned up Ross Barkley I haven't even thought in my mind he was on that pitch after we've just been fucking pumped all over the place by Chelsea there you go Costa come to fucking Goodison and scored a hat trick of goods and I was fucking furious.
58:15Scholesy:And I've gone, listen here, little fucking twat, yeah, this is a wind-up lad. This has not got your name on it. This has got Leon Osman written all over it. I'll fucking fill you in. Ross has brought up around the corner and we're both from Wavertree. And he said, he's saying, he got my number, he said, so I'll give your mate me number. Who's your fucking mate? He said, me mate's dad is mate with Sylvester Stallone's writer, man. I said, oh fuck on. That's just for them, man, you've got no one else. you stupid bastard. You know what? No, Sylvester Stallone. Fucking put the phone down on him. Phones this fella back.
58:46Scholesy:I said, okay, I spoke to Ross. He's vouching and saying, whatever, what do you possibly want me? I've never acted in my life. I turned up. I went to the Malmaison Hotel in Liverpool on the waterfront and I'm not going to joke me. I'm not going to lie. I thought Jeremy Beadle was going to be in a corner. I thought it was Beadle's about. I thought I'm going to get swilled with a can of fucking water. And all the lads are going to be laughing at me. After half an hour I thought, this is a bit serious. Then he started talking about money and I was thinking, fucking hell, I mean, I'm skint. I'm just one of the British and Commonwealth title that's all I've won at this stage in my career.
59:22Scholesy:And I'm thinking, you do know I've never acted in my life. Have you gone on your own?
59:27Tony Bellew:Have you took an agent with you? What have you done?
59:28Scholesy:I'm sitting there on my own with these fellas. Fucking hell, that's mad. And I'm going like, you know I've never acted, don't you? And they've gone, yeah, yeah. And I'm going, what the fucking hell makes you think I can do this? and when Tom was asking you to fucking play a boxer in a movie we were asking you to play fucking Dr. Zhivago in a fucking hospital drama so I've gone alright get your points I'm not very comfortable I don't really think it's for me but whatever they said they phoned someone up they phoned the director Ryan Coogler and Ryan Coogler said I'll be there tomorrow he flew in from Los Angeles the next day into Mount State got him I've met him and I just spent the next 24 hours with Ryan Coogler this fella's directed Black Panther Sinners fucking all these great movies he's unbelievable Creed and we just went driving round where I'm from and we talked and I just I just love him I adore him he's my friend now he's like a little brother I adore Ryan Coogler if it wasn't for Ryan Coogler I wouldn't have done that movie I didn't believe I could do it he talked me round and then yeah I wasn't going to do the fight I wasn't going to do the movie if I lost a fight to Nathan Cleverley so I refused to sign the contract so when I agreed to do the movie it took me three months to sign the contract because I went into camp and he was like you've got to sign it everyone's signed for the movie Sly signed Michael B.
1:00:39Scholesy:Jones says everyone's signed you've got to sign the contract and I was like I'm not fucking signing Nottingham he said Tone I said if I lose this fight I'm not going to fucking be in a movie I'd look at right squat you know I'm just being punched all over the place and I turn up in a Rocky movie next and so wins the fight and I signed the contract on the Sunday morning and when it comes to
1:00:58Tony Bellew:Oliver Films like the insurance and everything else like them waiting for you to sign they must have been sweating what was it like first meeting when you were talking about Mourinho before what was it like first meeting Stallone I mean that's proper it was mad
1:01:10Scholesy:when I went over I'm actually a bigger Rocky fan than I am a Rambo fan sorry I'm a bigger Rambo fan than I am a Rocky fan I love Rocky films but they're so far detached from real fucking boxing it's unbelievable which I told Sly and he said Tone no shit it's a fucking movie and just took a piss out of me the whole time he was a lovely lovely fella but it was just the first time I met him it was a bit Cougs he comes in and I'd been staying in Philly I lived in Philadelphia for three months and never came home and I was there on my jack for two months and the last month my mate came over and stayed with me but for the time that I was there he comes in after two weeks and me and Mike had learnt the choreography for the fights between us they asked us to start learning the fights with 16 ounce gloves on and head guards on after one session I said to Mike take the gloves off take the head guards off Mike's like you're not swinging punches past my face 10 ounce gloves I said just trust me I'm not very good, but there's things that I do know in life and I know about boxing.
1:02:07Scholesy:Yeah. And we were missing each other's faces by that much. We caught each other once each in the whole thing and they only caught me because I caught him first, the fucker. But when Sly came in after two weeks, he watched us doing the choreography and nearly had the arse attack. What are you doing? Whoa, whoa, stop. What are you doing? Yeah. I said, this is how we've learnt. We learnt the fight back to back and it was so hard to learn the amount of choreography that went into that final fight. I was going to say,
1:02:31Tony Bellew:because that must be a weird one for Stallone to sort of you being the real deal but him making so many films about boxing and knowing how to throw a punch on camera in the fake world and he's trying to say to you
1:02:44Scholesy:I'll show you how to throw a punch throwing a punch on camera is completely different to throwing a punch in boxing but he he was just brilliant and like I said Ryan Coogler wanted to make a boxing movie that related so much and was close to boxing Sly makes Rocky Rocky and movies like that for cinema you know what I mean for the whole thing of it and then the show of it and it's amazing because Rocky's an unbelievable franchise as is now Creed but it was amazing spending time with him I mean the things that he'd do and he'd teach us it was just so funny and then I nearly filled someone in on set I said something to him I jumped out the ring and attacked one of the one of the corner men in Mike's corner he told me I wasn't selling a shot right I said I'll sell you a shot he went to me he said to me let's do it so I said fucking tell I've jumped out and gone for us.
1:03:31Scholesy:Slides got in between us. We had some good times, but yeah. What was Michael like
1:03:36Tony Bellew:as a boxer?
1:03:38Scholesy:Michael B. Jordan. If I trained Michael B. Jordan, like unbelievable athlete as a specimen, he was a freak. Unbelievable basketball. Takes his shirts off, you're like, Jesus. Unbelievable athlete. Boxing, he took to it like a duck to water and then he was doing different things. The only thing he didn't do was spar full contact with people. He was working out the pads and the bags and all that kind of stuff. he just took to the work like a duck to water but I'm telling you if I trained that lad for three months he'd have a fight and win Has he beaten Jake Paul? Fucking hell that's a bit much he's had how many fucking pro fights Well no
1:04:10Tony Bellew:you're saying about training him up and all the rest of it do you think he'd beat a Jake Paul
1:04:14Scholesy:Jake Paul is someone now who's got professional experience the fuck has been him with the unified every champion in the World Cup do you know what I mean now you're asking Michael Lee Jones it's like the same
1:04:23Tony Bellew:No because everyone says about Jake Paul he's not a proper boxer
1:04:26Scholesy:I'll tell you now he'd go on Misfits and he'd beat a lot of them on Misfits.
1:04:30Tony Bellew:Right, okay.
1:04:30Scholesy:He'd win fights. I could train Michael B. Jordan three or four months I'd need him and he'd win fights. He's such a good athlete. He takes everything on board and he lives the lifestyle. Like when we were living on set for Creed, I mean, like once again, I turned up looking like Mr. Soft. He was an Adonis, but you'd seen the way, fucking hell, his name was Adonis in the movie as well. But the way he trains, the way he lives the life, the way he's so regimented, he's so disciplined. Between him and Ryan Coogler, Ryan Coogler's probably the hardest working person I've ever come across. That lad used to work 18 hour days.
1:05:01Scholesy:I'm telling you, but he'd just be, he wouldn't sleep. He'd just be on set constantly. I used to have to take meals to him and go, Ryan, you've lost so much weight. You've got to eat this food. And he'd just be focusing on the meaty so much.
1:05:12Tony Bellew:They like that. That's why they're so good. Yeah. That's why they're so good. Amazing experience. I could see you like, you probably don't, acting is a thing you think about, but I honestly, after that and knowing you and your personality, I thought, bloody hell, I could see you popping up in a Guy Ritchie. film or something like that.
1:05:29Scholesy:I'm a big fan of his. I met him at the recent boxing. I'd love to do more. And Ryan, I could probably speak to Ryan, but I would never put myself on the wall. No, I know, yeah. I'd love to, I'd love to explore it again. I'd love to do it because when I first done Creed, I actually regretted doing it when I came home. I came, I went away and my youngest, my second to youngest boy, who's 13 now, he was one at the time. And I went away and I came home and that three months, he was a different kid when I went home. I came back, I think he was about seven or eight months when I left. Yeah. I came back and he was fucking old.
1:06:00Scholesy:And it was just, I regretted so much. It was only when the movie came out later. And I was like, it was worth it in the end. It was good.
1:06:05Tony Bellew:It's nice to look back, I think, like stepping out of your comfort zone and doing some of that. And it's there forever now, isn't it? When you have grandkids and what have you got. Yeah, they'll see that.
1:06:14Scholesy:But I'd definitely love to do it again. As I say, Guy Rich, he delves into that kind of thing. You know what I mean? I mean, some of the series that I've seen him done, the most recent ones that he's done are brilliant.
1:06:25Tony Bellew:Oh yeah. What's the one he's done on Amazon Prime? with Tom Hardy and Piers Brosnan Mobland Mobland oh that's good isn't it absolutely fantastic
1:06:34Scholesy:Tom Hardy's got to be one of the best actors oh he's great isn't he he's excellent I mean the way he switches from the roles what's this one in Peaky Blinders I've never watched that
1:06:43Tony Bellew:I've never watched it I've never watched Peaky Blinders I don't know Alfie Solomons he talks like that I mean seriously
1:06:48Nicky:you're never going to get a job
1:06:49Tony Bellew:fuck off I sound like him
1:06:50Nicky:is he Welsh is he
1:06:52Tony Bellew:so you've done about six accents today I didn't put you up on one I could have done but I thought I'll let it fucking go I'll let it go I'll let it go I'll let it go is it good I have seen Tom
1:07:04Scholesy:I do now he's amazing yeah he's good and he's brilliant
1:07:06Tony Bellew:he's one of them it's funny like obviously he's a big star but sometimes you do bump into people I've never bumped into him ever but I always think like do you want to bump into someone because I like him so much as an actor you don't want to spoil it you don't want to spoil it he's got a brown belt
1:07:22Nicky:in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
1:07:23Tony Bellew:he's a big lad isn't he he's a big lad he's a brown belt
1:07:25Nicky:so
1:07:26Tony Bellew:So when I look at heavyweights and super heavyweights, oh, it is now everyone's massive. I always think they have a bit of license because you see, and again, forgive me, because you've forgotten more about that game than I'd ever know. But when I look at someone like Andy Ruiz, and even Tyson Fury when he's been at his big, and I go, they're carrying a lot of fat.
1:07:51Scholesy:Aesthetically, they don't look right. They look like, you know.
1:07:53Tony Bellew:Yeah, so what are they doing? They must have not an easier camp, but there's got to be a reason why they look like that. Surely with that kind of training and preparation, it's going to drop off you.
1:08:07Scholesy:No, it won't. Not necessarily, not all the time. No matter how hard you train, you can't outrun a bad diet. So that's just a true fact. You'll see nutritionists tell you, and the professional people tell you, it's very, very true. When it comes to the likes of Andy Ruiz, listen I famously said when I was at the weigh-in for him and Joshua he was basically a fan and I couldn't tell the difference between him and Johnny fucking Vegas amazing
1:08:34Tony Bellew:no but everyone was that's what made that defeat so shocking
1:08:37Scholesy:it is but the fact is the reason now
1:08:40Tony Bellew:it was like China White's versus fucking Weatherspoons
1:08:44Scholesy:don't look at don't look at the aesthetically I don't look great on the eye like when I fought David A I was like look at him he's in Adonis he's beautifully he looks amazing six pack muscles and everything me compared to him I look like Mr. Fucking Soft but guess what up here I'm far sharper than him and I know more about the game and the business and everything about it and when it comes to and I'm so relaxed when I fight that's the biggest thing for Tyson Fury no matter how big and heavy he is he's happy to be in a boxing ring he's relaxed he's not stressed out he's not nervous he's not anxious when fighters get in the ring and they're nervous and anxious they can look like Anthony Joshua is a perfect example he is aesthetically and athletically he is the best heavyweight I've seen in 20 years athletically as an athletic specimen he is absolute perfection if he gets on a running track he'll beat everyone if he lifts weights he'll beat everyone if you give him a punch output he'll beat everyone but something happens when he gets in a ring he gets anxious he gets nervous he tenses up the one against De Bois
1:09:43Tony Bellew:I was watching that and like anyone else you don't have to be a real expert in boxing to go he doesn't look on me
1:09:51Scholesy:I don't care what anyone says he's a far better fighter all of his fundamentals are better than Daniel Dubois but when he gets in the ring he tenses up now Dubois does the same thing because you've seen it against Dusik fighters who don't tense up now like I said Johnny Vegas before he gets in the ring and he just relaxes like he knows I'm not here to look good I know I'm a big fat fucker and I just get stuck in and I just have a fight Fiore's the exact same he gets in he goes you know what I'm a born fighter and he is so when you go in with that kind of mindset you never tire I could fight 20 rounds even now because I'll just be relaxed I love and enjoy fighting you think you can take shit out of people I think that's the same
1:10:30Nicky:in any sport if you look at a footballer for example if you're anxious at anything you're not going to be very good you're stiffing up you're tightening up you don't relax everything comes bouncing off you in the game true I think most sports you're the best ones are always relaxed aren't they no matter what you watch
1:10:43Scholesy:you see Floyd Mayweather he could have fought 20 rounds back to back to back I used to watch him training and you go, he's been training for an hour straight and he's not tired because it's at his pace. He's relaxed. He's slipping. He's sliding. He's never going to get tired. And like when Tyson Fury gets in the ring, he never tires because it's usually at his pace. It's only when he force Usyk, he takes him to a pace that he can't survive at. And this is why Usyk never tires because it's always at his pace. If someone can take Usyk to another pace and force it like my stupid ass tried to do, but then I got tired after fucking eight rounds, then you'll figure there's a way to beat him.
1:11:16Scholesy:but if a fighter's always fighting at his pace and his level they're never going to tie and they'll always look good Did you realise how good Yusik was going to be? Unfortunately yeah I did I sparred in him we went to the Klitschko Cup You got him quite early didn't you? Yeah well I knew how good he was I have to say after he'd unified the Cruiserweight titles and I'd beaten David A twice he shouted my name live on telly fucking You think you're Oh Jesus Do you know what mate this is the reason why you shouldn't go out and get on the ale and have your phone on you. I was actually on me, I was on my honeymoon, I was pissed at the fart.
1:11:51Scholesy:I was on my honeymoon and me missus, I was on my honeymoon with my wife, obviously, and we're in Michenos and some fella comes up to me, we're in a bar and I've had one too many and the fella goes, Tony, you're watching the Super 6 final. I said, mate, just leave it be, I'm not really arsed. And he went, no, have a look and he's put the phone on and I'm watching a couple of rounds and he's against Mora Gassiev who's a powerful cruiserweight but I knew he'd cruiser, I predicted he'd win it from the outset anyway before I knew it he's gone over to the fella in the bar you've got another best cruiserweight over there get the boxing on the telly it's on in the bar I've left me missus I'm standing at the bar and I'm talking but she was thrilled at the honeymoon I'd retired after the day by day second fight got married and then as I say we're at the honeymoon and this fella put the fight on I'm now engrossed it's into round 9-10 I'm watching the fight and I said I told you I've got a bit of a crowd around now I told you what happened he's pissing and he's doing this anyway just fucking crazy Ukrainian gets on the telly afterwards no one can understand the word he's fucking saying but everyone sits there and everyone understands he goes so what's next Alexander and he goes Tony Bellew I want Tony Bellew I want to fight him at heavyweight and I'm looking round the fucking bar as if to say anyone seen fucking you're talking about me pissed us apart I've now gone into the toilet got on my phone I've gone phone long legs I've phoned their hair and I've gone you tell that cheeky bastard who the fuck does he think he's coming out like that Eddie says to me of what I can remember that night Eddie goes to me Tone you've just you've sailed the sunset you've done the best thing you've come into money late in your career you've beat David A twice you're a legend you've won the world title you've done everything he said just leave it alone why do you need to fight him I said he's caught a big fucking he's on TV the cheeky bastard I'm not a shit house I'll fight the fucks anyway don't you can't say that word on telly I'll fight the fucks anyway so he said Tone just leave it alone you don't need it and he's gone so he's gone Tone I don't really like this fight for you so I've gone I'll tell you what if you don't make the fight he already follows me on social media stage I said I'll message him and I'll make the fight myself and he goes don't worry it's done the thought of Eddie losing a penny oh yeah so I wakes up Sunday morning I've got about nine missed calls off Eddie there you go what have I done I've been retired at this stage for like three months now I haven't spoke to this bastard since the day I retired and I thought to myself what's going on here I've got like nine missed calls off Eddie so I've gone into the toilet I'm shitting myself now my fucking wife's fast asleep and I'm in the toilet I'm going Eddie what the fuck's up with you what are you phoning me for and he went to me tone it's all done he's agreed to he's agreed to take a one off pay you own everything I'm like what are you what the fuck are you on about he said you told me to make you sick fight last night I said no I fucking didn't oh really he went to me tone it's signed it's agreed and I just put the phone down and I was on my way home.
1:14:43Scholesy:I didn't say anything to my missus for now. I was going to say,
1:14:45Tony Bellew:when you come out of the bathroom, she's on the bed, it's rose petals everywhere and you're thinking,
1:14:48Scholesy:oh Jesus. I went, I sat down, I didn't tell her. She went on our honeymoon for four or five nights. The fucker wouldn't even go with me for a week. She wouldn't want to leave the kids for that long. So, I'm on the flight on the way back and I said, listen, I've got something to tell you. And she looked up, I said, I think I'm going to end up having one more fight. She went, you fucking said, you promised, you know, we're all secured the fucking money's in now what are you doing that for and I said this fella's been calling on my name and he's got all the belts I said and you know he's agreed to a deal and I'm getting a lot more and she was like you fucking lied and I said well I haven't lied I said it's a bit of a mishap and stuff like that so she said I'm going on Aldi with the kids and I said oh no we're going to go to Portugal I said while we're talking about that I said Dave Caldwell's coming to Portugal as well I'm going to start camp out I'm going to start training we've got We've got 13 weeks to look like it.
1:15:41Scholesy:She didn't speak to me for about a good three or four weeks. I mean, handbag and handbag watch and stuff like that. That worked on the prize. But do you know what?
1:15:52Tony Bellew:It's funny, isn't it? Because like you say, when you're sailing off into sunset, you've done what you need to do, you've fought at Goodison, it's like tick, tick, tick. But something about a bloke calling you out on the telly, it's just one of them things, isn't it, with pride. You're like, especially boxing, you're like, I'm not having it.
1:16:08Scholesy:I knew how good it was. Like I said, I went to Ukraine, the Klitschko Cup, and we'd sparred out there, and I knew exactly how good it was. Don't get me wrong, like I said, you know, boxers are the best liars, and they lie to themselves. I thought I'd be strong enough if I catch him clean, and I know if I caught him clean, I'd put him out. Yeah. But one thing he didn't expect was how good of a boxer I am. And going into that fight, I knew my plan was to box with him for seven to eight rounds, and then I'm going to try and finish him in the last half of the second half of the fight. now he wasn't prepared for how good of a boxer I was so after seven rounds of completing that fight I'm ahead on two judges scorecards and I'm judging and I'm drawing on the Ukrainian judges scorecard to draw but I'm telling you now mate after seven rounds I've never been that tired in my life like I went back that corner and little legs Dave called her in the corner and my coach just went to me are you tired and I went I am absolutely fucking exhausted and he went what do you mean he said you can't be I said I what's your sparring?
1:17:06Scholesy:You've got three sparring partners, 12 rounds, you're pissed at it. I said, I've just told you, I'm fucked. Now, in an ideal world, the coach usually goes there, that's enough, you're not going out. If he'd have done that, he was likely to get put asleep. Oh yeah, yeah. Do you know what I mean? So I go out, I'm fighting for all the belts in boxing, the undisputed ring magazine belts, all the championship belts, I'm going out. I'm ahead, I know I'm ahead in this fight, but I was exhausted. So when they say he's not, he's actually not that big a puncher, but he's so accurate and I was so tired because he fucking made me tired.
1:17:39Tony Bellew:When you're against someone like that and you felt you were bollocks in the corner and you come out, could you see in his eyes that he knew that as well?
1:17:46Scholesy:Yeah, I think he hit me with a backhand, a left hand on the forehead in round six and it made me legs shudder a little bit. He knew I'd got off to such a good start and he just anticipated because I kept saying to him in the build-up, he played the blinder by the way, the fucker said he couldn't understand or speak a word of English. Fucking could. He understood it fucking perfectly clearly good speaking. I'm really good when it comes to talking and without sounding braggadocious, no one's going to do me in boxing on banter.
1:18:14Paddy:Yeah.
1:18:14Scholesy:I've grew up in football dressing rooms and you know what it's like. You go in a football dressing room and around football you feel it all your life. There's not an anyone can say to me, I'll fire back immediately and then I'll do you good and proper when it comes to the banter. I'll rip you apart. Yeah. That's what dumb David A. I was going to say that. I tore him in New York. He did come off well I wound him up so much he literally wants to kill me I wish I could have done that it wouldn't have made a difference but it might have made him come at me even a bit more and it might have drew him out a little bit more
1:18:46Tony Bellew:so it was a perfect bluff for him to sit there going I don't know what he's saying and you're thinking well it's worse time he giving it him so I kept giving him single things
1:18:53Scholesy:I kept calling him superstar I said lad you're just a superstar you're amazing you're brilliant I'm no superstar I said mate come on look at all these belts can I have one he was laughing and joking but I said I've only got one chance and it's to chin you. Yeah. And I knew I was going into that fight to box him, draw his lead. If I can draw his lead and bring him to me, he's going to have a problem. And I can't believe to this day that's what Fury tried to do. If I was 6 '9 and 20 stone, I'd fucking invade Russia.
1:19:23Tony Bellew:Yeah, yeah. Never mind box.
1:19:25Scholesy:Never mind fucking box. I mean, I can't believe
1:19:29Tony Bellew:he still tried to box him. I remember the first time I'd seen him he was quite quiet. He got away with chat and I thought, I thought, fucking hell, what a lovely bloke. And I got on really well with him. Same with you. But it's just the game, isn't it? That's boxing, you know. I've known him for years.
1:19:42Scholesy:He's a lovely lad. He's a diamond. And listen, I'm portrayed as a maniac and a lunatic, a scouse maniac who's just nuts. Because the first time the people really see me is jumping up at a press conference to tell Nathan Cleverie to get outside. Yeah. And no one takes into context what was said to me before I jumped up to get in the car park. This fella's basically said to me, I'll take you in the car park and fill you in right now so I jump out of my seat and go and try and get him but no one remembers what was said to me everyone just remembers me trying to drive him to a car park and the same things for Fury don't get me wrong Tyson Fury says a lot more crazier stuff than I do and a lot more controversial I'll pretty much say it as I see it and I'll stand on what I say whatever I say or whatever I type on social media whatever I say I'll stand on it and that's just how I am but yeah I'll teach everyone as I expect to be treated the minute I feel you've offended me or the minute I feel you're trying to take the piss out of me I'm going to double down and attack you twice the speed and that's just the way I am but I'm basically I'm soft as shit I am and my missus says if you want any more fucking laid back you'd be asleep
1:20:48Nicky:but I am them press conferences had a scary bit though aren't they I always feel when you're watching even when you look at like sorry you said before it was interesting because obviously I'm all boxing fans but when you see them I always thought it was to promote the fight and then you said something a minute ago and you said you want to encourage him to come on to you a bit more that's why you wind them up I didn't really get that I just thought I was always trying to sell a fight
1:21:11Scholesy:it was like everyone I've known David a long time and we knew he should before we fought I said I told you the story about a sparring earlier day before and I knew I've got a why I've got to get really under his skin before the first fight because if he wants to come in and box me it's gonna be a really hard fight and I'm going to have to wait and I'm going to have to pretend to her. But if I push his buttons, he'll want to kill me. So I'm telling you, when we'd agreed that fight for it to happen, like if you'd have seen the contract I had to sign you, they'd have thought I was fighting fucking Tina Turner.
1:21:43Scholesy:Mate, the fucking causes that were in that contract. You must be seated when I enter the press conference. You do not dare speak over me. Mate, so when he comes into the press conference, I make sure I'm standing up going, are you coming in, Tina? Come on. Come here. Come on, come into the room, sweet cheeks. is your hair band sorted are your nails done and then as soon as he started talking I just tore him apart mate and it gradually wound him up but the thing that got to him the most was he genuinely thought he knew my finance he knew where I was because he was a boxer you know he'd been at the stage where I was he knew this fight was going to mean more for my career financially than any than my whole career combined all together and he thought I was genuinely taking the fight for just the money he thought in my head he thinks because I'd sparred him he knows he's going to lose but for this amount it's his career it's a payday and when we come in the press conference and we stood face to face in the build up and they're talking around the table and we're not that close he's like he's just talking shite and he doesn't believe it when we come face to face and I looked at him and I said to him I'm going to smash your fucking face in and he looked in my eyes and he must have thought you cheeky bastard you really believe you're going to do this you scouse fat bastard you think you're going to do it and that's what got him in really because David's got an ego do you believe you were going to do that 100 % mate I knew I was going to beat him when someone looks you in the eye and says it like it's easy doing it across 20 feet away on the table but when they look at you and he genuinely thought I was taking the fight for the money he's got an ego David and so he should he's a better fighter he'll go down better than me he really will just because I've beaten him it styles make fights I've always beaten my style will always beat his but when I looked at him and said to him he's like you really think you're going to win you cheeky bastard because David's like I'm the great David there you cannot beat me
1:23:33Tony Bellew:the good thing about having a brilliant guest like yourself is it flies by pal thank you very much for coming on to me I've been a fan

Paddy, Scholesy and Nicky are joined by former WBC cruiserweight world champion — and proud Evertonian — Tony Bellew for a new episode of The Good, The Bad & The Football.Tony opens up on the most nervous ring walk of his life, revealing why fighting for a world title at Goodison Park felt more daunting than stepping into any other arena. He shares the unbelievable story of how Ross Barkley played a part in landing him a role in Creed, why he thought the call was a wind-up, and the mind games he used to get under David Haye’s skin before their first fight.
The conversation also turns to boxing’s biggest debates: who Tony thinks is the greatest British fighter ever, whether he has respect for Jake Paul, and why a boxer’s mindset matters far more than their physique. Plus, Tony reveals the extreme lengths he went to in order to make weight for his first world title shot.On the football side, the lads react to Manchester United’s dramatic 3-2 win over Fulham and discuss whether Michael Carrick’s low managerial profile could prevent him landing the job full-time. They debate if Manchester City’s draw with Tottenham has handed the Premier League title to Arsenal, and what Thomas Frank may have said at half-time to spark Spurs’ second-half resurgence. They also weigh up whether Mikel Arteta would walk away from Arsenal this summer if he fails to win the league from here.
Scholesy and Nicky also reminisce about one of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most legendary half-time team talks, when United came from 3-0 down to beat Tottenham 5-3. And with Tony praising David Moyes’ work at Everton and West Ham, the panel discuss whether he deserved more time at Old Trafford and why modern managers need more power inside football clubs than they’re given today. If you want to ask the guys anything about football email them at: questions@goodbadfootball.co.uk.Follow The Good, The Bad & The Football:YouTube: www.youtube.com/@goodbadfootballpodInstagram: @goodbadfootballpodX/Twitter: @goodbadftblpodTikTok: goodbadfootballpodFacebook: www.facebook.com/goodbadfootballpod
