In short
The episode is a World Cup/England-focused chat with comedian/actor Joe (a Gillingham fan) and co-hosts, mixing match analysis, football banter, and a personal segment about Nicky’s hair transplant. Topic: England’s 3-2 win over Mexico, why Jude Bellingham is “unstoppable,” plus England’s next match outlook (Norway) and goalkeeper/hair talk.
Guest backgrounds
Joe is a comedian and actor and supports Gillingham; the other hosts are football fans with playing experience and strong opinions on England selections and keepers.
Key claims
Bellingham’s performance is described as box-to-box “phenomenal,” with England’s midfield core (Bellingham, Rice, Anderson) seen as irreplaceable; Mexico’s home advantage at the Azteca is emphasized, alongside Mexico’s poor record there.
Notable examples
Bellingham’s back-post clearance moment (commentary confusion), Saka’s crossing, Jiménez’s penalty stutter, and Pickford’s cross-claiming saves during the 10-men spell. The episode also discusses Haaland/Scandinavia tactics and Nicky’s hair transplant/barber routine.

2:11Joe Wilkinson:Yeah, I've already seen them have a pot. Yeah. That's like the first five minutes of being here today. Before we get into the game, what a time to be alive for that last night. That was amazing. but I want to know are you alive are you alive are you alive today I'm just about but who did the all night who did the social medias who did the this morning on catch up this morning on catch up did you highlights this morning scores do you know what though I actually woke up at half past two right I didn't realise the game had been delayed for an hour earlier so I thought it was going to be over when I woke up do you know what I mean when you woke up at half two did you not have a quick look at the old phone yeah but I didn't have my glasses so I couldn't really see properly I've lost my glasses I did say I went to sleep early I just saw 2-1 I thought I was sure I saw like 90th minute but it was obviously wrong I fell asleep early
3:06Nicky:doors woke up half past one I thought I'll just look at the score it said obviously delayed for the weather I thought I'll stick it on now so I watched it live it was good I'm glad I did because what a game it had everything didn't it unbelievable game you watched it in the hotel didn't you yeah so bleak yeah was it one of them just the bed and the telly
3:26Joe Wilkinson:such a bleak night I woke up at one obviously I didn't know that it'd been delayed and I was just laying in the dark for an hour so bleak I couldn't be bothered to get up just had the telly on quiet and just laying in the dark I thought this isn't this isn't a World Cup I don't feel connected I was going to say if you were in the hotel on your own at one in the morning in silence what would you what would you have done if the World Cup game was on at a normal time would you watch it with mates or do you still sort of sit in and just chill out I struggle watching it with anyone I do it's really unsociable but I can't if there's anything you know I can't do pub or anything because if there's one bit of forehead in the way or something I just want to strangle it I need I need to see I can't have an inch of the telly or the screen not in view I just I never watch it with anyone it's terrible when you watch it in a pub
4:20Nicky:you don't watch it you just know the score you don't have to get me to talk about it you haven't got a clue yeah and like what Joel said if you're in a pub and it's on you almost want to go shut the fuck up let me listen what are they saying here shut up in a pub yeah yeah no no it's got to be rules though
4:36Joe Wilkinson:isn't it do you know what I mean if you're not interested round the other side and don't just walk stand up walk across pick your moment exactly all that sort of stuff there's etiquette they're talking as well etiquette standing in front of the screens
4:50Nicky:let's not go to the pub lads like oh it's not our own in the house
4:53Joe Wilkinson:come to my hotel room for this holiday in the last world cup remember when there was a game it went to penalties with England I forget which game it was but I was watching that in a mate's house so what you're saying it's full of people he has like an outdoor man cave thing and he had the he's got a dodgy box that's not a euphemism and went off halfway through penalties like the game the other night and then it came back on did that go off everywhere because I thought it was just my place yeah it did do it night
5:24Nicky:last game yeah I thought it was me it was England's game yeah it was an England game Congo
5:30Joe Wilkinson:I'd have been over the moon if it had gone off the last 11 minutes last night oh yeah wouldn't it be great
5:36Nicky:that was horrendous
5:37Joe Wilkinson:if it had just come back on and go just see him celebrate it was one of the
5:42Nicky:best games I've watched for a long time everything quite glad I missed it yeah when you said about that 11 minutes then as well I think my research I think it's a conspiracy theory but FIFA VAR did the best to edge it for Mexico last night when I was watching I might be swept up I might be a bit too passionate I've seen a couple of decisions this morning I'm not having that Harry Kane well that's exactly the same as what Modric did to Kane in the first game against Croatia is that kind of the same I thought they were annoyingly spot on I did yeah the sending off was oh it was a bad tackle but it didn't look like it it didn't look like it no I'm like no he's got the ball they didn't actually show
6:29Joe Wilkinson:the benches going mad no I didn't see that but I didn't know why they were going mad and then they watch it back it was a bad tackle well let's get into it England 3 Mexico 2 Jude Bellingham scores 2 Eric Hain penalty someone was saying on the Talk Sport this morning about they should have let Bellingham have that penalty for an at-trick I'm like not it she has not at 2-1 I hate that one
6:57Nicky:even in a normal game I hate it when the penalty taker goes you have it you're the penalty taker that's your job Kane's the best there isn't he some penalty that the pressure you know what I like no stutter straight up on that one where's that come from it's like a fashionable thing isn't it what's going on who was it Camara's missed one didn't he last night yeah stutter again they all miss him are they trying to
7:19Joe Wilkinson:predict they're trying to get the keeper to go yeah but the keeper knows a lot of them look at the keeper don't they yeah but I think Gary Neville said it last night it takes bollocks to do that because you've got to wait till the very last second Cantonaise to do that wait for the keeper to move
7:32Nicky:never used to look at the ball I've tried it I missed the ball completely don't look at the ball Cantonaise runs up he just looks at the keeper doesn't look at the ball to kick it the best at that is Ivan Torni yes have you watched him take his back he's literally he doesn't even look at the ball he's like that
7:48Joe Wilkinson:Is it true he takes penalties, practices them from a few yards further back? I don't know.
7:54Nicky:I find that bizarre if that's true. It's a totally different judgment then, wouldn't it? I'd imagine. Might have made that up. Maybe he should touch it.
8:02Joe Wilkinson:I've had a lot of weird dreams. Doubling sauce. The Mexico lad's got up penalties as well, hasn't he? Jimenez. He does stutter as well, doesn't he? He scored it. Because I saw him do that stutter, I thought, here we go. He's missing this. Straight in. Went the right way though, Pickford.
8:22Nicky:Yeah, but when you hit it like that, he's not getting it. I say McCain's, he went the right way, but you're just not getting it. You hear it that hard. Some pressure though, in front of that crowd for the Mexican team. Jimenez took that penalty. When they start the game and all the national anthems are on and what have you, you know sometimes, it's tricky with World Cups. I've never been to one, an actual, I've been to European Cups, never been to a World Cup game. and I'd love to go to them but when I was watching even just like when they played the Mexican National Anthem the noise in there just through the towers I was like oh I'd love to have been in there and then the result and everything I mean if you you were an England fan though and you had a ticket for that you'll never forget that game no it's up there it's up there with one of the I'm not sure it's the best we're all a bit hyped up but it's up there as one of the best England games I think it's just because it's iconic the stadium's iconic from when we were growing up with the Marek and the God goal and the Azteca stadium.
9:19Nicky:Remember the Azteca ball as well in the World Cup? Yeah, I do. It's like the name of it, it's the euphoria. And then you add to that obviously the fans and the stadium.
9:27Joe Wilkinson:What sort of advantage is that home advantage? How big is it? Because obviously a lot of the talk before, because I'll be honest, you look at the players man to man. Yeah. And England, why were they so good?
9:39Nicky:Is it that much of a home advantage? I don't understand why they were so good. I think it is when it's going well for you. But obviously when it's going, that's why I thought Mexico did really great to come back because when you go 2-0 down and there's fans they can turn a little bit I'm not too sure about Mexico fans but in general fans can turn around it's going bad but they they come they're unbelievable aren't they so that's why the game was so close really because if you look I know it's not played on paper but if you look at two teams England are much better that's in England or an initial country you'd be thinking three or four yeah someone said this morning that the collective cost of their team was only Elliot at Anderson you can believe it's unbelievable but also the build up to that game when everyone was worried about it it weren't so much about that that Mexican team it was about the Azteca never losing there the weather and the altitude it wasn't tons of chat about what was I talking about the weather it was like a night in Bolton when it was raining it was like a freezing cold it was that it was that it was that have you played at that altitude what's it like it's disgusting can't breathe can't breathe because you couldn't tell with those nah we did it in Johannesburg I think we spoke about it last time pre-season I did it it gets you through it's like someone strangling you it's horrible that weather must have looked alright it must have been alright for myself
10:59Joe Wilkinson:because the storm would have cleared I did it in Americanar
11:03Nicky:in Brazil in Rio and Quentin Fortune I'll never forget it Quentin Fortune lad from South Africa meant to be used to it or completely collapsed he had a silver the final I'm in trouble like Ginger from Manchester you had Sunstroke come in you could have in trouble here quit him so far fucking knocked out on the bus I mean that's fucking laughing so I'll go through Jude Bellingham you two obviously have played the game what did you think of his performance brilliant phenomenal absolutely brilliant what are you two laughing at all are you touching the two
11:39Joe Wilkinson:he was going to say that he'd watched the whole thing oh I've watched it this morning you've shown the flag on have you watched it this morning no shut up 7 o 'clock 7 o 'clock full rerun full rerun 8 minutes no they were no due billing do you know what I thought it would be through before the tournament because he had that little he had the big injury didn't he yeah and he just he'd had like 5 or 6 games at the end of the season he was just perfect leading into it he's out of the peak
12:07Nicky:of his fitness at the minute I mean it's crazy to think he's still only 23 is he 23, 22 22 and he's like last night he was he's like Brian Robson he's phenomenal everything he did box to box score goals his confidence is like ridiculous when you're playing that well you're doing what he's doing it must be a great feeling you might not have seen this watching the highlights this morning but during the game there was a moment
12:35Joe Wilkinson:we'll talk about the goals we'll talk about the goals and everything else but there was a moment during the game if you Guy Mowbray I think was doing the commentary it was when the ball gets put in at the back post from Mexico I forget who the player was and Ballingham runs back gets a foot on it to clear it which is like unbelievable Guy Mowbray goes what a goal he calls the goal watch it back he calls the goal because he thinks he's not going to get back yeah he says it and I'm like hang on a minute he's called the fucking and he's got back and got away but what a clear He says it. Might be coming to the end of his career.
13:19What about Saka's bar for that first? I thought it was brilliant.
13:23Joe Wilkinson:Is it like, I'm watching people like Mexico and the amount of balls they're putting in. Are we not, you know, some of the early games, are we not putting a lot of crosses in or am I going mad? Do you know what I mean? It was like, the last night, the first game where they've seen That's the way we play though So everyone comes inside Don't they? I think Garth as well He had a great game last night
13:48Nicky:He's a player on the wrong foot He's finding it difficult To cross it But Saka Being a right footer On the right side He got a few crosses I tell you Going off The young kid What's he called The Mexican kid 17 year old 17 yeah He'll be out Barcelona In the next two years He's just a complete And utter Barcelona player I know you've seen it Honestly He was unbelievable I can't believe it He's got a clue What one of that oh yeah it's like we played Mexico last night I saw him come on the first game can you imagine playing in that 17 playing in that atmosphere were they holding him back a bit or were they now they brought him off didn't they but he was brilliant the first little bit there's actually another kid who actually does play for Barcelona in the tournament who plays for pretty sure it's Egypt is it yeah young Santa Farah he was phenomenal he'll get a big move soon you know if you have a good World Cup as well can that guarantee your move not guarantee your sometimes you can have a player who's had a good World Cup haven't you Laz at United who were you signed from Paboski it was European Championship there's always somebody who stands out
14:48Joe Wilkinson:is there a beam on this that's what I'm trying to think they're all sort of the big hitters you know so much now though you know everybody now though you know what I mean I didn't know this kid
15:00Nicky:from Mexico I never heard of him I never heard of him until I watched him today did you watch him last night did you see that I felt sorry if you He was the one who gave the ball away for the second goal. Is Jimenez the only Mexican player in the Premier League? I can't think of any of us. He's not in the Premier League anymore, is he? No, yeah, sorry, yeah. Yeah, I don't know what you mean. Who played last night? He played brilliant last night, didn't he? Unbelievable. Are you? Yeah, unbelievable. He's a total different player when he puts that kit on compared to... I mean, don't get me wrong, he's a decent Premier League player.
15:35Nicky:He played a handful decent, but last night he looked world-class. There was one when he was on in the first half and I thought, he pulled it wide and I thought that's going to go in all day long but he didn't. And it just must be that, even though it's your own ground, it must get to, even like if you lads have played at Wembley and you kind of, at Wembley, England, you're sort of, you've got the advantage, you're expecting to win it. Do you feel that when you're on there? Does it make your decisions different? Well, look at the records of them. The record, you see most home team records are always very good.
16:05Yeah. Was it Mexico? I think that's the third game they've lost in 87 games. It's ridiculous. It's a piss-taking.
16:11Joe Wilkinson:They did seem positive for the whole thing. They didn't turn at all, did they? Yeah. Funny enough, weirdly, obviously, we're all delighted now's England are through. But when Mexico scored, I quite like the old... Is it Marachi Band? The Mariachi Band. The Mariachi Band. They played for this year. brilliant yeah and all the crap I did think oh I was sort of glad they scored a goal in a weird way because just to see that did you see the mariachi band outside the hotel the night before yeah with the Rockets the Rockets inside the England hotel like your hotel they got double plays I know nothing for me

16:55Nicky:but to be fair going on about Bellingham I think it'll be really hard to find a 10 and a 9 better than Bellingham and Kane at the minute I mean they're just both coming to the fore when they need to. I think the France ones are alright though, aren't they? Yeah, they're phenomenal. But I mean, as a pair, scoring goals, they complement each other. You know what? Everyone moans about relying on people's... You should rely on people. That's what they do. Every top team relies on the big players. I remember when we... What would we do without Bellingham and Kerr? Can't say I scored all in goals when we won the league.
17:24Nicky:He scored a goal every week, lasted 10 minutes. You always rely on your top players. That's what they get paid for. Messi's getting relied on, whether you like it or not. Ronaldo did for many, many years all the top players do Vinicius Junior at Brazil do you think
17:37Joe Wilkinson:Tuchel did a good thing with Bellingham like last year where he kind of didn't drop him but he he didn't sort of go this is your guarantee place because it feels like that that gives you a little kick up the arse do you know what I mean because he was you know he's a shoe in really yeah well yeah I think it's good to get that I think going back to our team if Sveiro or someone like that maybe left one of us out it gives you a little rocket You do get complacent if you're getting if you know you're
18:05Nicky:getting picked every week every international game you can be a bit complacent You can actually get
18:11Joe Wilkinson:a bit autopilot That's what I like about Bellingham because what you just said then Joe that around that time and it felt like obviously the press build it up into something it probably wasn't behind the scenes but it felt like Tuchel and Bellingham had had a falling out and he wasn't exactly doing it at Real Madrid and injuries and this that and the other but for him to play how he's played in this World Cup and like you say one of our most important plays mentally the strength on him is unbelievable well yeah when you're looking from the outside I suppose it made you feel like Bellingham was a bit of a bad influence around the squad last tournament that had come out wasn't it last tournament I can't imagine nothing further from the truth I don't think did you hear Kane
18:57Nicky:after the game no Harry Kane with his squeaky voice can I hear him interview his voice is completely kind of that's because it's so loud in there no he was saying it could be the altitude as well I thought he'd just been shook well he would have been both I would imagine but he sounded like some comedy schedule it was like a voiceover I mean it had everything that game then you've got Henderson didn't play a minute gets booked and breaks his arm that's unbelievable I have not seen that I literally once that full time whistle went I remember about five minutes until his eyes were closed he's jumped over What the fuck were you?
19:32He jumped over an advertising board about that big,
19:34Nicky:which would be easy for him, or any other day. Yeah. He jumped over it, and he's landed on his arm, and his arm has just completely snapped in half there, and it's gone on like a 90-degree right angle. Has that definitely happened? 100%. No, we're not going to have any part of the game. No. When we talk about players being important and Bellingham, this is hypothetical. If you got to take one of them two out, Kane or Bellingham, and you had to do, who would you take out? Can we just not? Yeah. What a question that is. I'd check Bellingham out only because we can't replace him because he's that good but with players that you can put in there, there's no centre-forward that can do what Kane can do in our squad.
20:14Joe Wilkinson:We've got a few midfielders. We've got a few midfielders.
20:16Nicky:I wouldn't want any of them out. Bellingham's been phenomenal but I'm not saying you can replace him in his format, but we've got players that can go and do that job. We've got no one who can do a number nine.
20:26Joe Wilkinson:If those three midfielders, Anderson, Bellingham and Rice if we lost one of them because they they all seem to be playing amazingly if you drop one of them as well because obviously Rice is like up and down as well and Anderson seems to control the game when he has the ball who would you replace him with like who would you take out
20:48Nicky:the only one I'd take out is if we because I I hate we're going to get some games soon where you can't just sit back and wait you're going to have to go and attack and for me even though he did really well last night I would take Anderson out only because I think we've got some unbelievable players that can play that more progressive football you've been talking about a lot over the last few weeks you've got like Eze can play in there you've got Rodgers can play in there you've got Cobby Manu can play in there can't play the role that Anderson can but you can't drop Rice so you've just got to tell Rice sit in there and dictate play I just think it's risky at this point to start leaving people out Cobby Manu's not kicked a ball you can't leave them out but if you had to you can't leave them out but if you had to it's hard to come in after five games not kicked the ball and just all of a sudden be fucking at it especially in the knockout cases Dan Byrne did well do you know what I love Dan Byrne when he come and Stones and Spine Byrne yes all the subs that come on did well I was pleased for all the subs he's the tackle in the carry ball he was great
21:44Joe Wilkinson:he's had a tough time he's had a bit of stick but Dan Byrne was like a rock wasn't he did you see the one the guy sort of over and kicked it into the back I stood next to him in the airport
21:56Nicky:probably about it might have been nine months ago. Massive. Massive. Like literally, you know, you go like, he's a basketball player. He's absolutely massive. And when his name got announced as one of that squad, there were a lot of detractors as well, so I was glad for him coming on. The thing is, that's perfect for Dan Byrne. Go and play him in F3, and his balls come in, he's just got to go and edit and defend. It's perfect for him. What the problem is, if you play against a France or a Spain or someone with a nippy little forward, then he's going to struggle. Do you know, it's some effort from England being down to 10 men.
22:26Oh, ridiculous. do you know what we're not even talked about that about the 50th minute yeah about the 50th he played
22:32Nicky:50 minutes he played yeah 50 minutes with 10 players in that it's brilliant it's incredible
22:37Joe Wilkinson:the timing of the the timing of the subs seemed to be perfect as well yeah absolutely perfect the manager that's what brought this manager for he seems spot on everything do you know what I liked as well before the second half the sports to his assistant Anthony Barry yeah and what I love like because you've got two called German and it's like a fish and then you're like yeah we're always we're going to go on it I'm like oh I like that he's got a lot going on he don't need that he was good in the first game wasn't he yeah he was into half-time yeah
23:10Nicky:is anyone actually thinking we're going to go and do it because I'm not trying to put a downer on it I'm not putting a downer I'm not putting the English but we've got Norway next so you're going to say no no I'm not saying it's like I think we'll beat Norway and I'm looking at the Argentinian flag there they're like staring at me yeah that's the one that I think oh No, do you know what? I'm more worried about Norway than I was about Mexico. We get a bit of luck with the draws, don't we? You think the last few championships were with DR Congo, Mexico, now Norway. Going in France, yeah. Although, well, Brazil.
23:40I know Norway could beat Brazil. I think we'd have beat Brazil quite easily. I just think we'd have been too good, too physical for a middle of the pitch. On Norway, I still think we'd beat Norway, but Haaland.
23:51Joe Wilkinson:He's got to score more goals than him, surely, because he's going to score. Yeah. he's definitely got a score in it. Well, he's scored the last 14 games or something. Yeah, he's a machine. And what about how cool he is when he scores? You see him on the drums doing the rowing after the game. I love that rowing. I hope he'll do it next week or Saturday, but he's good, isn't he? What are two goals he scored, though? I know. When he bullied Gabriel. Yeah. And by the way, Gabriel's not, no... Well, they've had some fights, haven't they? And I remember, stay humble when I said that to him. It was still going on, though, wasn't it?
24:21It still carries on into this world. And he bullied him, didn't it?
24:23Nicky:It's Saturday the game, isn't it? Saturday night 10 o 'clock
24:25Joe Wilkinson:London's enjoying it as well you know what I mean he's like he doesn't look like he's playing he's not playing in the World Cup but you know if you look at England he doesn't even go mad when he scores
24:33Nicky:all these Scandinavian teams they always cause us problems I'm telling you that's what I'm saying I'm not all team they have one superstar and the rest of them are all like I never liked playing against them Sweden and Denmark how old were you when we played Denmark was it the last 16 we played Denmark in 2002 we beat him 3-0 but he didn't feel like that he wouldn't feel like it he felt like he had a doing
24:54Joe Wilkinson:why are they such good is it because they don't swap as much they're so organised they're like robots
25:00Nicky:they don't move they understand they're not France they're not Argentine and they go we are a collective team and usually give or take one or two of the superstars they're all just not average players they play brilliant as a team they play a team and they know their role in that team and no one steps away from it and it's a bit like South Korea China Japan Japan they're all that they're all they're all zoned in on the team team team team team and it's really tough to play against
25:26Joe Wilkinson:is that hard to do in like because you know like essentially they're club players and they get a short amount of time so how are they doing it how are they making such a unit so quickly
25:36Nicky:I think when they're in the league they're in the teams they've not got all a big group of egos I think it's a lot easier to manage and put a team they're hard to manage and if you have one or two they're okay you have more than that I think you watched something about the French team didn't you on Netflix the other week on the bus and there's too many on the bus there's too many
25:55Joe Wilkinson:oh I thought you meant on the bus you watched On the Bus
25:58Nicky:I was like
25:59Joe Wilkinson:you should try to get a cab you've got a cab man of the people
26:03Nicky:never heard of Uber but yeah I do think when you've got one or two egos more than that they are hard to manage and I think Scandinavian teams are genuinely like that after a game like that last night against Mexico and getting the win what happens in the England camp do you just go does Tuchel say right lads you're on 24 hours nothing just rest I think I might have a couple of days off we've got a couple of days off yeah that would take a lot of hours well you think about 10 men as well for 40 minutes that takes an awful lot as you said with the altitude as well they'll all be visiting at George Henderson Hospital I actually think they're quite lucky with an unbelievable game time as well because you've got till Saturday now I wouldn't have them kicking a ball till Wednesday last night obviously timing get back to the hotel eat as much as you want.
26:52Nicky:We did it, we talked about it, burgers, anything you want to get back into you. Just relax for a couple of days and then get back on it. That's what you've got to do. Are all batteries the same? That's like asking if all soccer players are the same. Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that? No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with power boost ingredients inside? No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different. And Messi only trusts Duracell. I get so many headaches every month. It could be chronic migraine, 15 or more headache days a month,
27:35Joe Wilkinson:each lasting four hours or more. Botox, Autobotulinum Toxin A, prevents headaches in adults with chronic migraine. It's not for those who have 14 or fewer headache days a month. Prescription Botox is injected by your doctor. Effects of Botox may spread hours to weeks after injection, causing serious symptoms. Allerge your doctor right away as difficulty swallowing, speaking, breathing, eye problems, or muscle weakness can be signs of a life-threatening condition. Patients with these conditions before injection are at highest risk. Side effects may include allergic reactions, neck and injection site pain, fatigue, and headache.
28:05Allergic reactions can include rash, welts, asthma symptoms, and dizziness. Don't receive Botox if there's a skin infection. Tell your doctor your medical history, muscle or nerve conditions, including ALS Lou Gehrig's disease, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, and medications, including botulinum toxins, as these may increase the risk of serious side effects.
28:22Joe Wilkinson:Why wait? Ask your doctor. Visit BotoxChronicMigraine.com or call 1-800-44-BOTOX to learn more. Got a Sam's Cafe pizza order up. You know the best part about this spicy Italian sausage? I voted for this topping. Yeah, just another perk of being a member. Come join us. Sam's Club. Now it's time for Built Different, where we discuss what makes a world-class player different from us mere mortals. Powered by our friends at midnight, the betting app that's built different. And today, we have got the goat. Is it real? Lionel Messi. What is it? Well, I think, no. This last World Cup that's currently on really cementing it now.
29:11especially when you look at him versus Ronaldo yeah well that's the big debate isn't it but not so much this World Cup but he actually won it last time no I know I know what he's doing now he's still scoring goals he's a freak yeah the man is a freak phenomenal
29:24Nicky:I went to watch a game in to Miami probably a year ago I think maybe and I met the fucking one time I went there and Messi didn't play so I went with Bexley game and Messi sat there like this and he looked at me I was like a kid I was like oh fuck yeah it's Messi yeah yeah it's Messi I remember what walked past him and at the end of the game he went like hi how you doing shut my hand and I'm going I'm pretty sure he didn't have a clue he just knew he was talking to Bex but yeah he is a genius like what he does the only debate is the older generation will always look towards Maradona or Peli that's the only thing the younger generation you know under 40s it's a no brain he's a genius it's the same with everything I suppose people around now are always the best aren't they yeah you do look back at people like I still think a lot of people probably do put Maradona above him but I just don't think with his numbers what he's doing how old is he now 38, 39 but do you think that's what's going to get it's freakish do you think that's going to get more and more the more years go on so another 10, 15 years people look after themselves even better and they might be playing until they're 34 do you know what I mean there's always someone there to be isn't there yeah because I think back when Maradona and people especially the lifestyles they led like George Best Maradona the lifestyle they were finished by the time they were 33 do you know what I mean You think of the way they live.
30:42Do you know the one thing about Messi, taking football out of the equation, when I think about it, aside from them Lays adverts, I never see him doing anything. You never see him talking as an interview, do you?
30:57Nicky:He looks like the most humble superstar he'll ever meet, doesn't he? No, but I wonder why... He looks quiet and shy. It's like, you know, the number one, arguably. he must do interviews at some point I've just never seen him being interviewed no he's very reserved I was talking to him when I was over in America and he was saying you'd think he wants the high life living in Miami downtown in a big massive apartment he apparently lived in a humbler area close to the school where his kids went to so it was like an hour drive from Miami because he wanted to be a house close to the kids school so he could have a normal school life walking to school and stuff better than a crap house I was going to say he won't be that humble he's making out he's in a two up two down well what I was getting at he wasn't being Mr Flash guy in the middle of downtown Miami you get that impression from him though he just looks like a poor family lad you never know about him having Ferraris or Lamborghinis you don't hear nothing much of him do you he probably does more interviews in the World Cups he's captain of Argentina it's the most of you've probably ever seen him speak but he looks like the kind of lad that you want to do well whenever you're watching whether you're an England fan and obviously if he plays us in the semi-final we won't want that but he just looks like someone everyone wants to do well and he just looks a great lad to me Do you think him being in Miami sounds crazy this because it's messy but do you think it's actually good for him because he probably doesn't get mithered as much because there's no two ways about it Miami's full of South Americans I was going to say Yeah Miami's all South Americans It's not Americans It's more like I have been to Miami but I can't I still think it won't be as bad as going out in Spain if he's going out for a night in Barcelona I think that'd be horrific he'd still be bad over it I've seen it on again on Instagram it's amazing what you see online it's like I've seen him coming out of a restaurant with his missus the other week in Miami and there must have been a thousand people outside really?
32:49Nicky:yeah he's getting to that oh I'm thinking he's like out of the way of it he's getting to that like Tom Cruise I think if he was in New York or somewhere I'd be a little bit different but Miami it's well known have you ever like us Bex ever said what he's like just around the club as a person like bit of inside track no I basically just said he's a great lad and he's just really humble I think you see what you get from him don't you he's just a quiet player he just comes alive on a football pitch he's always been my favourite because he doesn't have the natural physique that other players have he doesn't have the natural you can see what he's got he's a pure genius footballer now you look at other players over the years Mario Donners are saying that's why I know you like that kind of players anyway but them two they're just yeah it's just ridiculous I mean he's got everything going against him is what I'm getting at for an elite athlete yeah and he is the best so much so much of football now is you speak about power pace speed strength all this and he's look you've got speed and strength but the quality technical ability it's like it's different he's just he could sit in a room this big of us three here now and if you wanted to you wouldn't get the ball off him and that's not an exaggeration unless you fouled him you wouldn't get the ball off him that's for me it's just like wow I'd have a goal two foot in straight in right in the neck of that that was built different power by midnight built for now not like the old school bookies it's quick to use simple to navigate and no messy ing about did a little messy thing there at the end lads remember you've got to be 18 or older and please gamble responsibly when we talk about Jude sorry Bellingham and Kane being you know two most important players for England there's someone who tops them for me Pigford what a game what a goalkeeper controversial I'm going to put it out there do you think he's edged himself to the top of England's all time great goalkeepers no absolutely not I like John Anderson good question sorry I like John Pickford I like John Pickford I think he's he was amazing last night Dave Seaman Peter Shelton Peter Shelton just putting it out there lads let's discuss it by the way let's not take away from what he did last night he's had a little bit of a stit he's been brilliant at tournaments before he was a bit uneasy at the start of this tournament and I hope he's got over that little bit of a sticky patch because he was phenomenal last night
35:26Joe Wilkinson:unbelievable
35:26Nicky:we're all emotional though aren't we One bad game is the worst keeper ever. One good game is better than Peter Schiller. I never said that. That's what you were thinking. Let's discuss it. What he has got, he's got balls, because he'd come out for every single cross last night and punched it. He's got some balls about it. And he started the goal. Bowling. No, he straight up. Terai, straight up the vision. Bosh, in. Get that out of the onion bag.
35:52Joe Wilkinson:It's quite rare for a keeper to be involved that much. You know what I mean? like the stress levels the crosses and all that it's just relentless that makes me worried a little bit though do you know what i mean what the for the last half hour that not that the keepers involved that much well but it was we were down to 10 at that point and it was just yeah
36:14even first even the first half he had still a lot to do yeah what i say from him and his by the way down to
36:24Nicky:is left oh yeah great save
36:28Joe Wilkinson:they've got a bad two or three without Pickford again well that's what I mean it's concerning once you play I always say once we play a good team I think we're in big trouble just as it is right just as it is now then sorry to be so happy about it just as it is now you've got to have every game now
36:44Nicky:what rag pudding chips and beans I've got to have it every one now send them on I'll be type 2 diabetes when we're in that cup but I'll be happy as Larry you'll be on men's health then will you so as it stands now just as a goalkeeping thing were you putting Pickford in the let's go three top three of England keepers of all time Gordon Banks David Seaman is he making it in that top three as it stands Peter Chilton no not for me what if we win the World Cup I think Joe Hart's better than him right okay I do I genuinely do I just do you and I'm not having a pop at him I think he's really good and I think he's I think he's better for England than he is for Everton bizarrely I think he's a better international goalkeeper than he is a clubkeeper and I sound like him I'm going to pop it I'm really not because they don't put a downer onto the game last night I just don't think you can't put him before Shilton I don't think Joe Hart is better than him I like Joe Hart but he's not as good as Jordan Pitford I think he is I do are they different keepers I just think certainly not in top three how many caps has he got Jordan Pitford he's right loads haven't he that's what I'm saying
37:52Joe Wilkinson:played tournaments he's a shelter as well is that a good thing you know he goes out emotional he's a lot more with his feet keepers are not wired right and he's definitely not wired right and that's a compliment yeah it's a compliment absolute compliment but he's not wired right
38:06Nicky:do you see he used to say from him and us again the header when he jumps in the far right how high was he when he was horizontal amazing fucking unbelievable do you do that buddy Nick you ever stood next to John I was in a hotel I was in a hotel I was in a hotel everyone's fucking massive to me but massive I've never I've never seen him in the flesh Jordan actually just when you say about Joe Hart as well I messaged him the other night have you seen his ear yeah it's belting unbelievable transplants he's on the ear done oh is he yeah it's brilliant I'll tell you give me the name of that he looks like action man I said it's like a fucking axminster that no but to be fair he's on there he's on there they're all over there I don't know they've got a BBC fantastic I don't think there's any I'm too far gone but I tell you what when I saw Joe I were like that's unbelievable I was gonna get mine done but I realized I didn't want ginger curly hair in the first place I'm not paying for it again not a chance to get it clips off me can they not make it a different color well it's a minute different color not ginger curly I got it done again but they're gone for like blonde yeah like you know dark lovely lovely long you're blessed that is I'm totally rubbing it in here
39:26Joe Wilkinson:it feels great it's got a right gloss on it as well is that just hotel shampoo this takes work it's done just happened and this is grasping at straws at least we don't have to mess about looking what shampoo do I buy what gel do I buy
39:48Nicky:mind and i look like jack jack come on here come here come here jack and i look like jack look at this look at this that's what this is jack's big moment now this will never see lighted that's the picture can we see that's the picture i was gonna get when i was gonna get it
40:08uh what's your go-to shampoo because that is a glossy head of earth whatever's in front of me No, I'm not having that. See, people who have good heads of earth, they don't enjoy it. They keep it a secret, don't you?
40:19Joe Wilkinson:That's the trouble. Do you know, did you ever have this when you were a kid? We used to use washing up liquid in our house, hence the fucking hair loss. To wash your hair? We didn't have a pot to piss in. It's all right. It's all right. Purse off. A soap, yeah, a bar of soap. Washing up liquid in the bath. Honestly, me eyes used to be streaming in the bath. Peter, his mum, washing powder in the bath. At least you were clean, weren't you? We were fucking, absolutely, we'd make that squeaky noise when you're walking.
40:54Nicky:I don't think I washed my hair with shampoo until about 14, 15. It was just soap, you know, whatever you wash, you just put it on your head. It's funny when you're brought up, like, with not much going on in the house. I remember my first proper girlfriend going to her house and going in the bathroom and seeing on the side a bottle of conditioner. And I was like, what the fuck? Remember when the two-in-one first came out? Oh, yeah. Two-in-one. Yeah. They all washed in both of the time. Yeah, still use it. Yeah, yeah. But it is one of them, that. I remember my dad washing my hair. So called a round.
41:28So called a round. That's what used to work, didn't it? Oh, yeah. Why do they do it so fucking hard? What's that? When your dad used to wash your hair in the back by your mum. Did you have... He was doing that when he was 18. That's not right. He used to have the rubber horse thing on the mixer taps. Yeah, yeah. And you had to just get the taps right, a bit of cold, a bit of hot. It was either scolding red off, storm bastard cold. You turn them on too much, they just pop straight off.
41:55Joe Wilkinson:The valves would crack as well. We're talking to Herker, because I love it when we have someone on with a good head of her. Beautiful. You say beautiful. What do you do with the beard? Any routine? I just you know I had the grey
42:13Joe Wilkinson:every year he's going for that Doctor Strange vibe my dad when he went grey he went poor bugger went grey down the middle like a badger's back so I'm just glad I'm not doing that yeah
42:27Nicky:so I go to there's a Turkish place I get South Africa to get a clip to get trimmed here hang on a minute listen listen how much is he fucking charge I can do No, no, like a cutthroat blade. Oh, no, yeah. And then trims, good all the stuff. Anyway, so I went to a different one in Altshundra, Dan O 'Watson, and I went, he went, hi, Nicky. I went, what the fuck do you want? No, no, what's the difference? I went, are you okay? Yeah, he said, where's all your hair gone? You need a transplant? I'm like, for fuck's sake. I've got a beauty walking to my hairdresser. Barbers. Barbers. I'll tell you what.
42:59Nicky:The best one. Turkish one. His barber, I'd have to shake that man's hand. No, this is a new one. I mean, he's on an absolute shaggy. This was a new one. It's a new one I've never been before. I went in, he abused me. I won't be going again. You know when you go in, like, because you are complete skin, do it, like, even punters, they're not going, what are you doing? No, I'm lazy. I can't be arsed, do you? Get the bick on it at all. No, I can't be arsed. You miss bits, don't you? Yeah, I did. You miss bits. You know, I get your brim. It's nice, it feels great. You get, like, a little trim up it.
43:27Nicky:Do all your nose, it's brilliant. Have you done it yourself? You feel like you've got a fucking hippie up your nose, are you? how often do you go? once every once a week do you know funny enough when you're losing your you've got to go more often because if it starts getting long it just looks horrific so you've got to keep it clippered most of the time how's it get longer if you're losing it well the bits that are still there get longer they don't just stop fucking growing they drop out do you remember Terry Nutkins oh yeah he didn't give a shit you don't see many of them anymore do you? you don't see many of them around Mick Miller's still got it Mick Miller Yeah, Terry Nutkins.
44:02I used to love him when I read Keanu. Mac Miller is a comedian, isn't he? He's brilliant. He's a lovely man. Brilliant. Great bloke. Just on to the football. Harlan, do you think, obviously we're playing him next, do you think there's an advantage of our players seeing him week in, week out in the Premier League? No advantage against him. Right. He can do what he wants to be. You saw it last night. Brazil probably thought Gabriel plays against him. He'd be all right, be fine. Yeah. he destroyed him to be fair
44:32Nicky:you're right 100 % if anyone could go against Highland they'd all be saying Gabriel because of the season he's had and the battles he had and he got hammered
44:40Joe Wilkinson:what are we going to do with then Gay and Considant how do we what do you reckon the plan would be well Gay's I think the bigger plan is to stop Odegaard right ok he does everything he's incredible he builds all their play for him everything goes through him
44:56Nicky:I think he's not had a great season even though he won the league house him individually has not had a great season
45:01Joe Wilkinson:was he injured halfway he's got a lot of injuries
45:03Nicky:and I think Scogli touched on that sorry to interrupt Scogli but I think Scogli touched on that with Bellingham and I reckon people that have had a few injuries in the season and they get to a tournament and not had much football it's their middle of the season it's like they're at the peak of their fitness and I think that's happening with Ode Gardner I think the biggest thing the biggest way to stop Harland is stop the service to him stop crosses leave your full but don't if you let them cross a ball and even against Gai do you man mark him? in a game Ireland can you do that with a player like that there'll be two verses one won't there at times but you know what it doesn't really matter to him because he can just like I keep going back to Gabriel he's in the size of Gabriel how strong he is he's just pushing him he can do that to anybody I reckon Stones will have to play in centre-back Stones and Gay and then he'll put he won't leave he won't leave Concer out no but I think Concer will go right back who didn't play right back Jed Spence oh yeah
45:57Joe Wilkinson:if if if we do stop the service from Odegaard do you this is probably unfair but does Harland almost become like do you know the way Kane comes back if he's not involved Harland doesn't really do that so is it is he you know he just stands on the shoulder like that waiting he doesn't he doesn't participate in the game no it's weird isn't it it's like 10 men for big chunks of that well I was watching the game after half an hour I think he'd have three touches confidence though to be like going off did you see the start about Messi how far he runs in a game it can't be that far can it 6.6km a game it's pretty far then yeah but honestly like midfield players you get 12km yeah and they said 60 % of it is walking yeah but that's what I was saying about Messi when he has the ball like I should imagine as a player that's what's frustrating because he's so good and you're going oh the fuck he's past me again he's strolling about it they must have to put runners in you know like they choose the players to run through you've got to do of course you do yeah is there not something with again this is just me trying to do anything to get us through that next game against Norway with Gehi and Stones seeing Harland week in week out in training and going up against him they'll probably know if he has any weaknesses they'll see it won't they they'll know what to do with him he hasn't watched his weakness he doesn't have weakness no I know but he's with someone all the time even if he's with him every single day it doesn't matter even knowing how to wind him up every day yeah do you know what I mean yeah so they're going to have to have the game of their lives to keep them quiet I think the most important thing is stopping and not just the older guard they've got good wide players as well across the board
47:39Nicky:I think Joe was right before when he said we've just got to outscore them because he will score one or two so you've got to score two or three and that's pretty much what you've got to do and that's probably the best way England are conceding chances all the time so you think we're going to have to score more than them and we've got to place it and the bench the lads on the bench I think come on they always do well but the main thing is we're in the quarter finals in the world cup lads again right chaps this week that prize guy have a massive draw they're making someone a millionaire for just 30p head over to that prize guy.co.uk to enter big month of sport we've got the world cup wimbledon f1 at silverstone yesterday and the open is coming up so i want you to rank one to four in order of what's the hardest to win the World Cup Wimbledon Silverstone and the Open I would go individual sports hardest to win so I would go Open Wimbledon I know Silverstone's individual sport but they've got all that all the technical thing around it I'd then go World Cup three and Silverstone last only because I think with a World Cup you're in a team so if you have a bad game your mates can help you out I'm going Silverstone number one why because I've had the privilege of sort of doing a little bit on tracks and it's immensely difficult and what they do is it a sport driving a car then yeah I just think with that if you're a motor sport if you're fortunate enough to be in one of the bigger teams you've got an easier it's an easier route yeah but that's why when you're not that's why I've got the World Cup walking near the bottom he's got Jules in first you've got World Cup last don't you no third right I'm going Silverstone and then I'm going to go it's a stupid thing to do because if you're good at the sport you know what I mean we're looking at tennis yeah I think World Cup number two Nicky which is my opinion I'm going World Cup number one because it's just a sheer amount and there's a lot of people involved with it you've got to rely on each other that's what I'm saying yeah if you're on your own you can actually go you know what you've got to wait fucking pretty much every shop clean the open last day yeah but if you're good at golf you should be able to do it shouldn't how many people are in the open I won't have a clue seriously 100 maybe there you go I just think it's fucking hard to work yeah but if you're good at golf you should be able to do it shouldn't you if you're good at football you should be able to win then do you know I think it's easier to if you have a bad day you've got 10 other players or in this day they're in squads you've got 16 that can help you whereas if you have a bad day at the open you're fucked you're not winning it yeah World Cup's the artist yeah the open second artist yeah Wimbledon and then Silverstone do you know the thing with Wimbledon as well like we're almost like dismissing it a little bit no no but what I'm saying is like if you're good at tennis you should be able to do it shouldn't you fucking unbelievable you should have put a snooker in that oh for fuck's sake someone went to fucking snooker because there's no snooker stick 10 pinballing up there as well for the crack no don't be silly let's just go mad no don't be silly cards put poker up there we'll agree on my one the man was the best one no because you've gone you've gone golf number one I just think it fucking is he always gets aggressive why won't Heather swear swear is not aggressive swear is not aggressive I'm with Nicky I think because it is a team sport the World Cup thank you Paddy sorry scores a trick because it's a team game I think it is harder because you're right you've got to rely on everyone else it's a big team effort isn't it yeah Silverstone World Cup Open Wimbledon Bosh Bosh Right, remember, get yourself over to thatprizeguy.co.uk for your chance to win a million pounds for just 30 pence.

52:19England are playing this game in the camp called Wolfe and it's a bit like Traitors which Joe did now when you signed up for Traitors because my learning colleague to the side of the post goals not an avid TV watcher so we're going to have to talk him through the rules of Traitors Joe Wilkinson over to you
52:38Joe Wilkinson:I'm not entirely sure he doesn't know no I wasn't I wasn't fully aware of it myself how long were you on there for? Not a great amount of time, no. I didn't. I saw it as a bit of a time in a castle rather than a... I really like consoles. It kind of, one of them ones were, that celebrity series, I think, obviously it was a hit anyhow, but I'd never seen it up until that. And Helen, my boss at Radio 2, was talking about it. I said, oh, fuck, I've never seen it. She went, watch it. I watched that entire episode in the back of a car on the way home. I loved it. It was brilliant. The real one is something else, though, because they go for it.
53:22Joe Wilkinson:They sort of stitch each other up and stab each other in the back. We were a bit more like that. I don't know. So the gist of it is, there's people who are traitors, who I presume are the wolves of the England camp, and you've got to find out who the traitors are and get rid of them. You've got to vote them off. Via what? How do you find that? I think some fucking... Well, the mods have decided that we're all going to play our own game of traitors. Bear with me. This has just been, well, I'll have a look what we do. So we've all been given a piece of paper. I wonder what that bit of paper. I put that in my pocket.
53:59I thought you were slipping me his number. We've told you this before. I remember in the England school when they played Deal or No Deal. Yeah. David James. I told you something. No. Deal or No Deal. What? The game with all the boxes? Yeah. In England. Yeah. In an England school. Rod Thornley did it all. put all the boxes together took him ages it got pulled David James out so the first one he dealt straight away fucking James over like 100 quid said deal and fucked up lasted about 10 minutes I think
54:32Joe Wilkinson:I think that is their worst nightmare oh the worst one is David James oh yeah fucking nightmare honestly fuck anything up right we've all been given a piece of paper and it says on it whether you're a faithful or a traitor are we allowed to look
54:46Nicky:at this piece of paper don't show each other I'm faithful I'm faithful I'm faithful I've got to tell you we've done some stuff on this podcast but this is fucking up there for me what have I got to say that now this is my fault I'm faithful I'm faithful I'm faithful I'm faithful I'm faithful
55:07Joe Wilkinson:I'm faithful you're a fucking traitor I can tell straight away that's game over it's Paul Scholes yeah I'm going with Paul yeah Yeah. Paul Scholes. What are you saying? Vote for yourself. I mean, this is quite... You've got to say it. Oh, faithful, faithful, faithful. Look at it in the eyes. Oh, faithful, faithful, faithful. Do you know what as well? You know when you just said look in the eyes? I am a lime bastard. You know when you just said about looking in the eyes? You know what does mind him when you're out and you go cheers and they go, eyes, and you're like, fuck off. It's just, I'm chasing you, that's enough.
55:41You know when they go, you've got a look in your eyes. That's weird. No, he did that to me once, Luis Figo. Oh, fucking hell. He's throwing it. He fucking dropped a name there, ain't he? Dropped a name there, ain't he? No, I think I'd just met him, he was in India doing a futsal tournament at Giggsie, and I shook his hand, I must have looked in his eyes or something, and he said, no, look in my eyes. Wow.
56:01Nicky:Sounds like a kiss. He said, the last time I looked in your eye, you put it through my legs. He said it means 10 years, bad sex or something, he said, because I didn't look in his eyes. He's right, wasn't he? Well, he has got a point. Fucking morning turn. did he say anything about masturbation right so we've done that I think Joe's a traitor
56:23Joe Wilkinson:yeah I think it's me have you looked yeah no it's not me no point in looking I think it's Paddy he said the same thing I think it's Paul one of us has got to be right I think it's Nick he is a lying back
56:39Nicky:I was a traitor
56:41Joe Wilkinson:aye
56:42Nicky:Fuck me, we've not even done any build-ups. He just said reveal it. What are you doing? We've not even got it. We've got a four-week time. He's just gone out traitor. I've got to say to me, that's the fucking... What a fucking shit idea. I told you to do countdown. You did fucking listen. Countdown at Miles fucking better. Could've got Rachel on. Do you know what's amazing? Right at the beginning, he went, I'm a traitor. And I thought, oh, he wouldn't have said that. But he clearly just read it. Oh, I'm a traitor. No, no, because Joey was doing it reverse. Joey was doing it reverse. Joey was doing it reverse.
57:09Nicky:Joey was doing it reverse. I've got to be honest with you
57:13Joe Wilkinson:I think they should put the whole thing out without any editing just that whole thing oh yeah today's episode of the good, the bad and the football is brought to you by TV Licensing right another belting World Cup so far lads I was going to say what have you enjoyed most about watching it on the telly the Mexico game's got to be up there, hasn't it? yeah great game obviously a lot's happened 3-2 sending off loads of action yeah I think it's been a decent work I still think now's the time when it's really going to get going with the proper games I think we said that
57:53Nicky:at the start didn't we I think it gets really going last 16 which obviously proved that last night this morning with the game had everything I think football fans every single one of them loved the games they've been a bit bad timing shall we say at certain times of the day but there's been some good football highlights in the morning they're good aren't they oh it's great just a little it's great do you know what I find weird I play it as it's like 8 minutes or something and what I find weird is when you still go to sleep and you don't know there's results until the next day and you're looking at your phone and you go oh like last night I didn't realise Brazil got knocked out until I woke up this morning it's like oh Jesus you know what I mean do you know what I like as well there's been incidents in this World Cup that remind me of like when you watch the FA Cup until where you get a team lower down in the leagues doing well Cape Verde oh brilliant I mean oh good to that and that 3-2 to go and you're going oh my god but I love seeing countries like that in the World Cup I know that's what I'm saying same population as Manchester I know you see the goalkeeper now has got 5.7 million followers on Instagram no has it no triple that is it yeah he's about 15 million really well he started with about 80 or something like that didn't he yeah and they called a lad up from Ireland playing the Irish you see that no I didn't see that he got an email like a year ago somewhere he thought someone was taking the piss out of him and did he he's playing the World Cup there's an Irish bar in New York that wanted to be the national support unofficial supporters branch for Cape Verde because of the Irish lab playing and he was packed out wow some story oh that's an amazing story do you think because of that World Cup they've had Cape Verde do you think any of them players or the manager their stock will rise or is it just an anomaly?
59:41No, definitely. I think some of them players will get moved from this. Yeah. Definitely. People will be looking at them. It's got some unbelievable goals. Even if you're looking at maybe championship clubs over here they'll definitely because they're good value as well because they'll be cheap. What would you say has been your favourite World Cup goal so far? The one you've seen you've gone, oh, what about, sir?
59:59Nicky:Kane's second goal. I was just going to say that. Against Congo. Yeah. There's some strike there. The more you see it the more you think, wow, because it's come right around on the outside and he's actually reversed the shot and he had like four players around him yeah you could just see him waiting for Arfi I felt he was going to score as soon as he got the ball he's waiting for Arfi he's going to smash it you're not saving it I really enjoyed Harland's two goals last night against Brazil against Brazil in the World Cup I love the he's not like going mad celebrating however is he just stood there he knows how good he is in front of goal it's not a shock for him is it two different goals was one of the first when he bullied him got him out of the way bang header and then the next one 20 yards out through his legs through the old legs made in Norway remember if you're enjoying watching the World Cup as much as we are either live on ITV the BBC or BBC iPlayer you're going to need a TV licence a TV licence covers you to watch over 400 TV channels plus all the live sport on streaming services plus everything on BBC iPlayer to find out more go to tvl.co.uk
1:01:07Joe Wilkinson:uk forward slash pod i love hearing about like that stuff like gary and phil and that work rates yeah yeah i think it like the thing i like realize as as you guys have sort of sort of finished playing and spoken about all that stuff i think that's though that sort of stuff is like really valuable for like youngsters do you mean to see the way that like i'm using gary and phil because i sort of became sort of obsessed with like hearing about that what they the way they went that so much further and like you guys sort of obviously take the mech or whatever but for me i'm like that just that not just football like anything yeah like if you go farther and harder than anyone else you can you know you can go further than you think you know like and you know the way that spoken about in you know interviews and stuff but you guys going they're insane the work they put in it's just I love it I just think it's such an amazing thing to hear I think that reflects
1:02:09Nicky:on Gary now with his work he does after football he's so driven I've never met a bloke that's driven me in any walk of life I couldn't live my life like that I couldn't I have to have a bit of a bit of a break but he is full on 24-7 from the minute he wakes up in it to be fair
1:02:25Joe Wilkinson:was he a youngster was he a leader did he like he was yeah he was always like that he was like he was like your dad yeah you know when you're an apprentice each year as a foreman he was our foreman no that's what he was he was officially a foreman not like head boy yeah like head boy
1:02:42Nicky:he was the one that told you you've got to clean this and he'd be like fuck off Neff and then he'd be what he was he was brilliant he was a proper geek when he liked he didn't drink or anything no he wasn't he would probably openly admit that and he changed
1:02:54Joe Wilkinson:it's just it's quite inspiring to see what you know and the manager always said sorry Paddy there was different types of people some some players had to be at 100 % every single day to get the best out of their career because guys are obviously an amazing career and what a player but is that a prime example for any young people coming through where you go that is down to pure graft
1:03:17Nicky:if you go internet and you look at I've seen Paul talk about his best England 11 ever on Instagram today everyone says Gary Neville writer he's been named the best writer England's ever had and I'm telling you now and he won't mind me saying it he wasn't the most gifted player. Yeah, that's what I mean about the ground. But a lot of that's come from, well, all of it has come from natural ability, obviously, but work rate was just absolutely phenomenal.
1:03:39Joe Wilkinson:When he talks about being a full-back, like now in his punditry and stuff, he obviously studied it to get the most out of us. The stuff he says, I've got no idea what he's talking about.
1:03:53Nicky:He was a midfielder when he first started. Well, when you knew him. So we all came together at 13 or something like that, but Scores you play for Rochdale boys I was Manchester boys Ryan was Salford boys Gary was Berry boys and you play against each other
1:04:06Joe Wilkinson:so you knew
1:04:07Nicky:each other you always know the best player on the team so I know I play Rochdale we play for the same Sunday morning teams so you'd hear
1:04:16Joe Wilkinson:about each other before you met each other there's a lad at Rochdale's decent there's a lad at Salford yeah we all we played against each other as well Gary was like
1:04:25Nicky:at 14 15 he was like a 40 year old pro at 14 I'm not exaggerating him and Chris Casper weren't they both the same but brilliant brilliant football and brilliant career
1:04:35Joe Wilkinson:I just love that you know because obviously not been you know I remember like at school and stuff you go there's a kid who's on Spurs yeah yeah and you're like anyone heard about me no nothing yeah and you don't really hear about the subs do you it's so true that isn't it flipping heck Joe it's been absolute pleasure having you on I love this pod by the way can I say one because me and my pal text each other about this pod like he always listens to it before me so can I just say to my mate James hello James thanks for listening sorry about that do you listen or do you watch I listen I listen yeah I know I'm not driving but he always listens to it first and then ruins it don't bother this week he takes me this morning he's like calm down should have brought him up should have brought him up
1:05:39Nicky:James you missed that your best mate didn't invite you up what did you think about the steamed versus the boiled eggs
1:05:46Joe Wilkinson:that was right wasn't it well I think a steamed egg boiler is fine I don't know why you've got so much steamed egg boiler whatever have you got one? no not an idea there you go had you ever heard of one though? no no a lot of people haven't someone told me yesterday at that gig they bought one on the strength of it loads of people I'm just getting used to it loads of people what's it called
1:06:08Nicky:I need a deal what's the boxer called who had the grill? George Foreman George Foreman Paul Scholes egg steamer make millions make millions I wouldn't go mad with millions QVC
1:06:19Joe Wilkinson:amazing amazing amazing

1:07:30Joe Wilkinson:I'd love it if you two properly fell out over the years you'd never fall out didn't it Joe honestly when you're saying about listening to the podcast this chat now goes on after on whatsapps when we had the egg debacle then we fell out about how to pronounce nice or nice biscuits it still went on for days I said something about something else he said I got the pronunciation wrong that went on for days it doesn't stop here it carries on the best one was a duck all orange from the Chinese you must have had fucking duck in orange sauce at a Chinese don't fucking say that you didn't say that you did say that the trouble is I can go back I'm not saying what was said but I can go back and listen when I listen and go I could end this argument now but I'm staying out of it you did say a la range
