In short
The episode is a football chat focused on Manchester United and the wider Premier League. Topics include: a viral claim that Cristiano Ronaldo was getting married (the hosts doubt it and joke about 2,000 “randomers” turning up); Newcastle’s collapse after player sales and a manager change, with concern about PSR and recruitment; transfer talk on Arsenal signing Bruno Guimarães and Man United’s midfield/defensive needs.
Key claims
Newcastle will likely finish around 12th or lower; Guimarães will improve Arsenal but Old Trafford would be a tougher physical test; Man United’s best value signing is Youri Tielemans, though one host argues he’s inconsistent; United should buy a physical centre-back, specifically Cristian Romero from Tottenham (noting his “nutter” style and disciplinary risk).
Notable examples
Tonali/Isak/Guimarães/Linton at Newcastle; Kevin Keegan/Sir Bobby Robson as recruitment pull; Mourinho’s contract story with Sir Alex; Built Different Index fan rankings (United, Newcastle, Liverpool, Leeds, Crystal Palace).
Guests
none—this is a roundtable with two main hosts (Man United ex-players/insiders, including “Nicky” and “Paddy”) plus occasional mentions of “the crew,” but no named external guests.

0:39I love it Very nice Very intimate
0:42Nicky:Intimate Just need a pint Social club vibes innit Just need a pint I'll For the subscribers I'll talk them through the set So over here we've got our socials board to GBF Board. Got the raffle. August, my birthday. So, that's on there. Different things every month. Nicky's Singles Night. That's every Thursday. Is that a real tosh paddy? Is that real? No, it's not a real ponytail either. I'm going to say the ponytail. It's not a real, I mean, you either. It's supposed to be David Seaman, isn't it? Got some pictures of us. Got a menu up there with Nicky's niece biscuits. I wouldn't have noticed that got a silver YouTube plaque well over 100 soon to be gold in fact you see them pool cues when that turns gold we're going to get a pooled table lads but for now we've just got I don't know I think this is a telly but never tried changing the channels dartboard but the colours are the wrong way around have you spotted it on the dartboard should be red at the top oh yeah i've never seen a white 20 before what's going on there what do you mean yeah yeah you're right yeah it's normally a black 20 with a red top in it what's going on there i think we got it off uh is it teaming uh got your steamed eggs on special and by the way i've used my egg steamer very nice and then we're Over here, we've got our wall with our former guests, but we need to get more...
2:21We've got some belting guests, haven't we, over the seasons? So we'll get some new guests on. We've actually got a football, which is Andy, and just over, Nicholas's left shoulder, the Mighty Wikes, Boat and Wanderers. Beautiful. Life's good. How are we going soon? Got beats, I don't remember.
2:40Nicky:Well, it's a caravan club. We don't remember our ass about that, are we lads? No, no, probably. What have you been up to? Had a little break away? Portugal come back just especially to see you two today and the crew, obviously. I thought you had a bit of colour there. You've got brown knees. His knees are very brown, aren't they? They're brown, they're, mate. Yeah. Right, shall we get into it? Mm-hm. Right. Yes, why not? First one, this one, it's quite funny, but there was a report that Ronaldo was getting married, right, at the weekend. I don't know if you saw this online. obviously he wasn't there were a few reports this weekend on there but this random couple were getting married everyone thought it was Ronaldo 2 ,000 people showed up was it in Madeira or somewhere can you imagine the poor people who was wedding it was just sat there and for the nicest days of their life and 2 ,000 randomers turned up with Ronaldo tops on do you know what though I think it's probably like they probably go oh look at this like it's something you're not going to forget 2 ,000 people turned up.
3:48I always thought he was married, Ronaldo. Have I got that wrong?
3:51Nicky:I thought he was married as well, to be fair. Yeah, he must have it wrong, yeah. Would you expect it to invite you to? Obviously, ex-teammate. No. No. No? You never just send Ronaldo a message now and again. How are you? No. How are you, pal? Do you know what I've noticed about you United lads? Don't really like it, sir. Yeah, I was going to say, considering the success you've had over the years and dominate in the 90s and the early noughties, like literally you don't do a thing with each other ever. It's only you two ever meet up. Oh, we. You know, I mentioned like birthdays and Christmases. Oh, we don't get anyone anything.
4:30Don't keep in touch with anyone. No, it was never like that.
4:33Nicky:You see, I see Scorsese a lot, obviously, even before the podcast. I see Nev, obviously Ryan's around. I see Keeney quite a bit. It's just that. But football, you're full on for all your career. Then people just go back to their normal lives or whatever part of the country or the Europe they live or the world in football nowadays. You just move on, don't you? You never just drop anyone a message? How are you? How's life? Not really. I don't anyway. Have you got Ronaldo's phone number? I don't have it, no. Have you? Fucking hell, lads. I've got numbers for people I've worked with years ago. You just got someone's number on your phone, don't you?
5:10Or have you got his own number? Do you know with football clubs now and football teams especially, they all have WhatsApp groups, don't they? Yeah. So I reckon even when we were playing, I can't think of many people's numbers they had when we were playing, other players. Probably Nicky, Phil, Giggsie and Gaz, really. Bex. Bex, yeah. You never had anyone else's mobile? Come on. I swear to God, never. It's your team. And the manager, that was it. So outside of... There was none of these groups or anything like you have now. so obviously everyone's numbers on there you can see them speak to whatever you want but it was not clubs run the teams now through whatsapp basically no yeah training times training times meeting times what you're wearing it's all done through whatsapp groups and there weren't even message groups was there iMessage I think back to them days brilliant wasn't it you weren't getting my either every two minutes no and you you had an excuse of not turning up for something because you go, oh, I didn't know.
6:13No one sent me a letter. Right, let's get into transfer talk, lads. Bruno Goumérish. I always have trouble with that.
6:23Nicky:Put your teeth in. Newcastle to Arsenal. £75 million. Before we get into that exact transfer, I've got to say, fucking wheels have come off at Newcastle. The players that have gone, the manager's gone. I feel quite sorry for them. I do. I feel sorry for the fans and everything. Is there a big club out there? Yeah, the expectation of that club, and especially when the new owners came, must have been, right, we're going to really go for this now. We're really going to go for it. But I don't think they can, because is it the PS, what's it called? Is it PSR? But it looks like, certainly the players that I've gone, I've had enough, obviously the mind is left as well.
7:02Nicky:I'm thinking that we can't get to where we want to get to. They're going to keep selling God and Tanahol, and then obviously the mind goes as well. It's exactly... Yeah, one thing Newcastle have done over the years is get recruitment right. I'm not sure they did last year. I don't think it was a great year for them, but now, it's shut. Look at the money they've got for these players. So they're doing something right. Now look, it's very hard. Nicky's been up to Newcastle. I don't know, for foreigners especially, they think it's like in another country, don't they? So I think it is difficult. Once these big clubs want them, it's hard for them to hold on to them.
7:37I think... Look, they're going to have to do well in recruitment again.
7:40Nicky:Yeah. if they'll ever do this well again i don't know because these are really good players we're talking about i think the newcastle the expectation of the fans certainly is like we want to push and be where they was like with uh with kevin and by the way what i want to say about kevin yeah absolutely yeah obviously thoughts with the family so that was yeah it was gutty when i heard that however i think the fans would want them to get back to what it was like when kevin was there which is challenging for the premier leagues and and titles and they're just never going to do it to keep selling the best players and they have to find a way of keeping it.
8:10Where do you think they end up next season? I think they finished 12th last season. Yeah, I think they'll be lower than that. I think this new manager will, if he gets them to finish 12th again, I think it'd be a miracle. I think it'd be an unbelievable. Really? Yeah. With the players there, they have lost top players there. Is there not something like, you know when you're a player at a club who's been a little bit on the peripheries and you've sort of been in and out of the team and you've really wanted your chance, do you not kind of, weirdly and I don't want to talk about the World Cup but look at that England squad and everyone had their opinion going why is he taking him over him and all the rest of it but you know at the end of the day they get to the semis will the Newcastle players have that mentality like do you know what we'll show we don't need these lads players will in an ideal world they'll want that of course and they'll think right this is my chance now but there's a reason they haven't been playing for a long time they have still got some good players they've got young Willock who can come into midfield they've got the lad this time from Villa Jacob Ramsey I think is a and now it's their their chance to come and say right come on yeah that's what I'm saying let's see
9:17Nicky:let's see what you've got now yeah you're talking of their three best players all out in the same time and obviously the manager was a massive and it's just the fans will be deflated and they're not actually going out and going right we've got to do these three but look what we're bringing in they'll be deflated and it'll be it'll be a tough season they'll brought some players in haven't they but I I couldn't tell you I don't know and last year I don't think they did great recruitment wise Volta Mardy and who else did the bad he sort of started alright and then for some reason it just did he have a fallout with Eddie O what happened I don't think he had a fallout I just don't think he played that well he scored a few goals early on playing as a centre forward and they almost moved him back into midfield that's what I'm saying now what Newcastle have done I think Newcastle at some points last year over the last two or three years have probably had one of the best midfields in Premier League with Tonale Bruno and Joel Linton playing the three and when I looked at them I thought I wouldn't want to play against them there's power there's pace there's quality on the ball they had absolutely everything now all of a sudden they've lost two out of the three of them so how are you going to replace that and I think they bought about 20 million 30 million pound players at the minute that can always work out and you hope it does for them but it's going to be so hard to replace that and Anthony Goran as well goals pace I think it's going to be a really tough year for them and a brand new manager Just with what you were saying at the beginning of this chat then about going to you know going to the capital going to London Arsenal and what have you how much of that I think we spoke about it in the past but how much is it a factor I love Newcastle as a city great night out you're on tour the audiences are brilliant fans are great comes to the club but how much when it comes to your family and getting settled does somewhere like London or Manchester turn your head a little bit parking up the football more with foreigners more with the foreign lads I believe they go like for me it was the only place I wanted to go to when I was leaving United I just think the passionate fans it's not two and a bit hours up the road when you're coming from I don't know South America or Europe have they all got to go to London even Manchester back in the day was a tough one to get to obviously Manchester's changed that way still some had changed still some are now saying no to Manchester go to London just love London I think a lot of foreigners in fact just think London that's it that's the only place in England yeah getting them to Newcastle has proved them to be quite difficult although they have managed to get these players as Nicky said Nicky play for Newcastle it's one of the best places you go and play football because the fans are brilliant the fans go nuts they understand it you know what I mean they have really good knowledge of the game so I think it almost feels like a stepping stone sometimes for these to get to the big clubs which has been proven this year I think to get players up to Newcastle they have to have something for them to go up there for so you have to have a really top top manager like a Kevin Keegan or somebody you want to go and play for who all players know about his football career they want to go and play for him.
12:32Nicky:They have to have other top players in there that are like a Shearer that you want to go and join and play with or a Ginola or some of these great players that have played up there. They're phenomenal. I just don't see that right now. And it's really sad because they were on the brink with Eddie Howe of knowing they won the first cup, thinking, you know, just give them a little bit more. I know the rules with the PSR, which I think... They got him into the Champions League as well. Yeah, and you think, you know, Eddie Howe would be sat there thinking, right, we're here now. Give me a little bit more.
12:57Nicky:Give me a hundred million and I'll get us into that top Champions League every single year. and then the next challenge is going to challenge for the Premier League and that takes time and that certainly takes money because no one can do it on a shoestring like that you just can't do it It's a big problem is getting players there now because they're not in the Champions League Obviously when you sign in I think Tonali Isak Guamirez you come into a Champions League club persuading these players to come to a club they're not even in Europe they've got no European football it becomes more difficult of course it does And I think as well, Eddie O's a manager where he's not leaving a club like on a whim.
13:37You know, there's a reason he's gone because he seems pretty level-headed and what have you. It's not like, oh, I'm bored here. Well, there's something all his best players.
13:44Nicky:That's what I mean, yeah. He'll never say it, ever say it in public because he's not that kind of person. But I am guaranteed, he'll be sat there going, well, you're making me work on my hand side behind my back. It's impossible what I'm doing here. He'll drop out of football for maybe a month, two months, three months. It might be to Christmas. It might even be the next England, in mind you might have a bit more time out until you see what's going on with that I don't know but I mean he's a top top coach I love Eddie Hart I think he's brilliant So Bruno's at Arsenal now how much does he improve the midfield and also would you have had him at United?
14:19Nicky:I think he's a very very very good footballer I genuinely do I just think with what United's bought Tillemans I think they're very similar I think they're very similar in that sense I think We'll get on to Tillemans I think Gimera's Will is more aggressive more about gets about the pitch a bit better than Tillemans but I think Tillemans is the best signing in the transfer window for that money for his age 30 million was it 30 million his age and his experience he's played in championships world cups he's played for big teams Villa's a big team he did really well there he's a great footballer I just think that's a brilliant signing for Man United I think Gormera's with Arsenal I think he will make him a better a football team I don't think I said it millions of times the football we watched from him wasn't great now you need midfield players especially to make your team play good football is he is he going to do that enough for Arsenal you think they'll have Declan Rice next to him I didn't really get the midfield I don't think I know they won the league but I don't really think they got the midfield right last year now this might be the answer to it and they're obviously open so I do think Tonale is a better player I think he's more legs about him because when you talk about going to Old Trafford I think if he's playing in a two at Old Trafford I think it I think it'd be a struggle for him Old Trafford's a big pitcher I don't think he's look I'm not saying he's like a Casemiro but I don't think physically he's aggressive though but I think at Arsenal they'd be more suited to it What was it like when you you lads have had it where you've won the league and you get a new player in, the mindset of a player going into a club that's just won the league, surely it's got to be like, wow, I'm with the champions, I've got to like...
16:14Psychologically, is it more of a... Then you're joining a club where we're like mid-table and you're like, oh, right, here we go.
16:20Nicky:I think obviously we've never experienced that going to a club that's just won the league, even though I haven't done that. But you've had players come in, haven't you? But when players come in from a player that's playing in, in a team that's just won a league to have a big player come in keeps you on your toes I was just going to say that I think a prime example of that was Varon Varon came in with me and Nicky right fucking hell there we go because you knew Varon was a proper player you got Keane there as well and it's like Skoldi's there fucking hell am I going to be playing there and it just switches you on again and that's why the manager does that type of thing this episode is brought to you by Google Chrome You think you know a browser, but Gemini and Chrome?
16:59That's new. It can help you with practically anything on the web, like restoring a vintage motorcycle from a 50-page restoration block, or finally break down that long article you've had open for weeks. Gemini and Chrome is here for it. Ready to make anything online make sense? There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required, compatibility and availability varies 18+. Very excited, lads. New feature. It's time for Built Different Index, the football's alternative league table powered by our friends at midnight. The betting app that's built different. This one, this week's alternative league table is all about the 12th man.
17:36The fans, the supporters, the lifeblood of any football club. We're going one to five. So we need a champion. All right. We are champions. Discuss the fans first. And you two amongst yourselves will agree who's number one Man United Man United number five right well what about we done you know what Man United are top five no we need five yeah Man United are top five I've got to say it pains me this lads but I'm I think Newcastle Liverpool Liverpool
18:12Nicky:for fans Newcastle above Liverpool I'm not saying they're not but I'm saying you've got to get your five surely to God you've got to put Liverpool in there fuck me yeah I would do right so let's Get your five-inch. You've got United. Newcastle. Newcastle, Liverpool. Do you know who fans I like? This might surprise you a bit. Crystal Palace. I agree. Reminds me very much of, like, Italian football, that ultra style. Yeah, I like it. The old flares and all that carry on. The atmosphere they create. Yeah, all right. We'll put Crystal Palace in there. We need one more.
18:48Try to think. Do you know, when I went to away grounds, I liked it when they were nasty can I suggest horrible Leeds Leeds Leeds are up there I was going to suggest Forest
19:01Nicky:no Leeds Leeds good fans Forest fans you don't think so I've never gone there I thought well that was an amazing place you're picking Leeds for intimidation purposes alright then and the fact that they're a proper proper football club yeah very similar to Newcastle very tribal aren't they Right, we've got Leeds, United, Liverpool. Newcastle. Newcastle. Palace. Palace. Right, so of those five, we know you're going to put us number one, but you might as well just say United's your number one. This is your two's decision. Who's your number two? Newcastle. Three. Liverpool. Leeds. Four. Palace. Liverpool.
19:51Five. Leeds. Palace. Right, so we've got ourselves a little bit of a sticky wicket here, lads. Which I'm gutted about because I fucking... Things do today. So let's go through this three to five. You split on Liverpool at three. You're saying Leeds. Leeds, you're saying Liverpool. I'm going to say Liverpool for three. I'm going to pull Leeds four. Well done, Paddy.
20:17Nicky:Who's made you the judge? Well, you're at a disagreement, so you need someone coming or else what we're going to do we can't have them both can we I disagree with Leeds at four though Palace at four I'm having Leeds at four if you knock them down on three I've just said four I've just said four and then Palace would be five and the only reason five with Palace I think is because Liverpool's a bigger club and I just think I agree Palace are amazing like their fans and you watch them I love them that's irrelevant because Liverpool would be a club than Newcastle yeah I was just going to say I think I'd put Liverpool number two I wouldn't oh god well you played for Newcastle actually fucking hell so you're going now you're putting Liverpool at number two no I'm not I can't no but he has there's not many teams could get 58 ,000 people every week in a championship there's not many teams that could do that I do say yeah but wait a minute though if United or Liverpool were in a championship they would United would of course they would of course they would championship yeah no they would Nicky they would what does Liverpool ground hold now if Liverpool were in league one they'd fucking have that many shut up they would hey listen I have absolutely no skin in the game with Liverpool but I'm telling you you can't deny the fans are good I'm not denying the fans are good I'm just saying you need to choose between Newcastle and Liverpool just go with him leave me out of it you just pick what you want why does he get like this because you've changed you've changed my choice once no I'm not no what's happened is you've said yours he said his and you don't agree so it's got to go to a moderator do you want me to put it out to the room the moderator so we could have a not really we'll have a show of hands just moderate then I don't know what Chris will say well I'm trying to moderate but clearly you're not best pleased about it right hey and by the way if it were up to me I wouldn't have United as number one so I've left that who would you have over United fans over United I'd go Liverpool yes biggest following the biggest follow club in the world is Man United so how can you say that how can you do you know what I'm basing it on you should just go no do you know what I'm basing it on just leave go on go and do your things you've got to do this afternoon can I just give you what I'm basing it on when I've been to United watching the game very very wonderful time I've had there are you getting this in no no yeah vocally Is Peter Kay still available?
22:49Vocally If you're lucky You'd be lucky to get Vernon Kay On this budget Luckily Vocally I just think The Cop End at Liverpool Is always louder Than Stretford End I'm just going on Me being at them games Bear in mind I've only been a few times He was playing against He was playing yeah Does it matter? Yeah It was at a Champions League night Should you Have you ever been to Old Trafford on a European night? No, that's true.
23:21Nicky:I've never been to Liverpool on a European night. Because they're never in Europe lately. I'll tell you what then. Let's keep United as number one. It has to be, Paddy. Come on. Have you seen Man United's away fans? Man United's away fans are the best in the country. Right, all right then. I'll take it back. I've got that one wrong. Mods, second place, show of hands, Liverpool or Newcastle? Give me a show of hands for Liverpool. give me a show of hands for Newcastle there yeah one person said Newcastle we've got to go Liverpool is number two which I did say but I've put it out to a vote though just to keep Nicky happy carry on Newcastle number three well if that's okay or are we going Leeds number three if that's okay if we've got to change it again are we going Leeds number three Newcastle Newcastle number three yeah please agree it's just going to be awkward oh god thank god Newcastle three right Right.
24:16Leeds. Leeds 4, Palace 5. We got there.
24:20Nicky:I want to put Palace 5 anyway, I'll be honest with you. Palace 4. I had gone Villa before Palace. Oh, fuck it. Palace 4. I had gone Villa before Palace. Where's Villa come from? You've never mentioned her once. Villa's fans are, yeah, up there, aren't they? They're nuts. That was the Built Different Index, powered by Midnight. Built for now, not like the old school bookies. Quick to use, simple to navigate, no messing about. remember you've got to be 18 or older and please gamble responsibly what do you reckon is the best transfer so far the summer yeah I just said I think Tillamans I think for the value of money it's not like if he was up at 70, 80, 90 million it's a different answer but for the value for the money and the player you get him if they get the right people around him I think he'd be the best sign I disagree with you on Tillamans I think Telemans can either be a 9 out of 10 or a 2 out of 10 or a 3 out of 10 I don't think there's anything in between and when he's an 8 or 9 obviously he's brilliant he's got I think he's inconsistent and do you know what pretty much like the way I was a little bit like that I could be a 2 out of 10 or an 8 out of 10 I think it's just the way the way he plays you see some guys you think he should be playing the best team in the world in other weeks now at Man United maybe at Ville you can half get away with it or is Leicester club where it is at Man United you've got to be you've got to be performing four out of five games you can't afford to be two or three games out of five I agree with Scorzi I think with that what I'm agreeing with Scorzi on the fact is that I think when you're at a club like a Villa no disrespect to Villa we're a big football club but they're not expected to go and win the league which Man United are every single year whether they've got a good squad or not and I think I hope that'll push them to the point of going right I've got to be on my toes every single game in every single training session now because if they're not somebody else coming behind me.
26:12Nicky:They're not saying they're not. They should do. They're neither of them. What do you think? Santos from Chelsea? I don't know nothing about him. I've got to be honest. I've not seen much of him. I've not seen enough of him to sit here and talk about him. But I'd like United to go and buy a physical player. They've been a bit quiet on the United. You know, isn't it a funny one? Like, I've no skin in the game though but you're like, you've signed Carrick. What do we think United need more now? Position-wise, forward. I think they're alright forward areas I don't think they're like that I think they sorted the forward areas out last year centre back I think they probably need two centre backs you might laugh at this and I'll get a lot of stick for that here we go but no centre half I'd go and get for United now don't say are you going to say go on are you going to you're not going to say the Sun you're not going to he don't play for Sunderland does he oh no sorry I thought you were going down the old Michael route No, it's Zaka.
27:10Zaka. He's a centre-field player. No, I know, that's what I always realised. I've gone sign Christian Romero from Tottenham. Right, talk us through it. I know he's a nutter. I know he's got disciplinary issues. But I just think he can be a very good centre-half. And I think someone like Michael could really calm him down. And you're talking 30 or 40 million quid. This is a fellow who's played centre-half in the World Cup. now like I said I know he's got issues disciplinary issues especially I don't play with Martinez as well obviously they know each other yeah I can go with Chrissie Romero I actually think he'd go to Atletico Madrid but I just I just like do you know you talk about Mavericks and I know he's a centre half but do you know I mean he's got that bit of idiot about him it's not a very nice thing to say you know a bit like Cantona did obviously Cantona was a centre four it's a little bit different more creative but I just I think he could become like a bit of a cool tier old type yeah but those players are great when you're a fan and it's like oh we love him but in a really crucial game he gets sent off it's infuriating and that's what you've always got with a player like him that's what I like about him funnily enough there's a bit of bit of maverick about a centre half do you know what I mean I'm surprised and I think Michael could I'm surprised you don't think
28:34Nicky:they don't need a forward with knowing what you're like as a person football wise yeah possibly if you look at the great I thought Cescou did okay towards the end I liked Cescou but I just don't think he can carry the football club on his own no he can't but you've got Mbumo you've got Cunha I think you pull them out of their best positions and you do that is he the player who you think that's the signing if you were in charge of the championship Romero yeah I think they're desperate for something I've got enough I actually quite like the young kid Aidan Heaven he's a good player He's still making little mistakes.
29:07He's young. But I think he could be very good in. I wouldn't mind seeing him with Romero, actually. I know it's... Look, Martin, the thing with two centre-halves at Man United, especially in that position, you need to rely on him to be fit all the time. You can't rely on these two. Harry's picked up his injuries. Martin, he gets something all the time, doesn't he? How long's Harry there for now? What's his deal? He's signed a new deal. I don't know what it is. Now, look, the other thing. they were talking about Lewis Hall as well from Newcastle weren't they for left back Luke Shaw signed a deal I don't know if he signed a deal but Luke Shaw had his best appearance record I think last year I think he played every league game if I'm not mistaken now if he stays fair now we're always going to go back to his years where he's where he's been injured and look at he's had one year of not being injured touch wood he's probably one of the best left backs around but the question you've got next year he won't be he'll be playing midweek games he's not had that this year he's had one game a week all of a sudden they've got European games now Champions League can he go Champions League Tuesday, Wednesday Saturday, Sunday and stay injury free it's a big risk just to keep one left back
30:21Nicky:the thing with Man United's squad at the minute they need to go and probably if we've been with a perfect squad you're going to have to go and buy let's go to the centre back I said a centre forward and then one more player whether that be a midfielder or a left back I can't believe they're not trying to buy Adam Walton either yeah and to be fair with that that's not going to happen my United aren't going to go and buy four players now so they're not going to get why probably they're not if they are they'd have done it by now I think I've said on here before that Tonali would have been my first choice but obviously we haven't gone now I can't Adam Warton looks perfect you know these players you know you two have always said it about United and I get it you go in like oh if you get the choice you go to United and I've sort of said it's different because I'm you know I'm not a United fan so I don't I'm not have the same passion as you two, but no modern footballers.

31:09I think when there's a choice of like United, Liverpool and Arsenal in for a player, I think only with a sort of modern, bit more selfish kind of player. I think they're looking at Arsenal and Liverpool over United. Just because of what's gone on the last few seasons. I know you don't like that. Wash your mouth out. I'm telling you. I honestly believe wash your mouth out I honestly believe
31:37Nicky:it's not got the same appeal yeah no you're probably right the thing with Man United I'm not sure about Liverpool it's always going to have an appeal Man United will still always be massive club I'm not denying that it will still be the biggest pull for me if I were a player I'd be playing there I'm not saying Arsenal you have to give them the dues they're the champions the reigning title they've got a great squad they've got a mind you obviously has time at that club and runs a lot of that football club. There's a lot of, and London, a lot of tick boxes around there. I just think Man United are still, I just, I know people will be on there going, oh, get out, you're all Man United biased, but it's, this is the biggest foot.
32:14Nicky:If Pep's still at City, I'll tell you one more position. I think you'd beat City over United if Pep's still at City. Man United and Real Madrid. If Pep was still at City, this is another example, and players available. I heard what you said. I just wanted you to say it again. And City, and United go in, I think City are more appealing. Just because that's modern football now and these new young players coming through. Man United is 10 times bigger than Man City. I'm not saying it's not. That is exactly what I'm not saying. My point is... What are you saying, Patrick? Modern footballers, young footballers, say what's in front of them.
32:52They don't really care or think that much. Over the last few years, I'd probably agree. Now, and that comes from a United... ex-United player and United fan when you look at the bowl teams what would I want from my career I want to win so of course you're going to choose Man City now Pep's gone and do you not remember they haven't won the league for two years with Pep there remember that that's my point the reason I say is what you were saying about they're not going to go in for any more players why is United who are arguably one of the world's biggest football clubs why are they not getting their stones out and going let's show everyone what we're all about.
33:33I thought they would. I don't think the owners want to do it.
33:37Nicky:I don't know if they've got the money to do it. Yeah, but why not? That's the point. When you got into Europe, Paddy, I agree with you. I thought, here we go. Michael, Michael's got the job. He's going to get some ammunition now to go and go like that. This is what we've got. Let's get back to somewhere near where we should be as a football club. It's not happened and I don't know the reason why. If me and Nicky are players now coming from a different club, over the last five or ten years if Man United or Man City wanted to buy it regardless if you're a fan or not I think we'd both choose Man City yeah because what they had at the time because probably the way the club's been run over the last five to ten years and the players they've got that's all we're trying to get you looked at me like as though I were at my mind but that's what I was trying to say I just mentioned a minute ago about the Newcastle scenario if you've got a Kevin Keaton and that hurts saying that though doesn't it it's horrible saying that it feels weird saying it but when you talk about a football career you want to get to the end of your football career with medals on the table and again the big X factor I believe in attraction is the managers if you look at Sir Alex obviously everyone wants to go post-right Kevin up there wants to go and play for it Pep we're talking about Pep here with City I went to Newcastle with Sir Bobby Robson they're big pools you want to play for these great great managers now City have lost that I still think they've got a good manager coming in by the way I think he's a very good rescue but I just think they've got the same pull Do you think every top club in England has lost that a bit?
35:06Looks like it yeah You go back a few years Klopp Ancelotti Yeah Guardiola Conte Mourinho Mourinho Man United Van Gaal a little bit I suppose That pull's gone a little bit now don't you think? Yeah A lot of the pull now for players is money Yeah Wages Yeah It's that But also, I still think medals. I agree, modern football is probably a bit more money. All that, sadly, has become, outshines a lot of things. But to what you were saying about if you were still playing U2 and you were looking at what club's going to deliver medals for you in success, that's still going to be there. but how much for a young player is the family and agents got a sway on their decision?
35:58Let's just say you're a kid, you were born in Manchester, you're a United fan and you think, oh, I really want to play for them but then everything else comes into it. How much sway do you go, no, I'm still going to go for them or how much is agents and money and everything else?
36:15Nicky:I think the better way of looking at it is if you're not a Man United fan or from Manchester and you're from, let's say, Buenos Aires. Yeah. I don't know. And you're getting a chance to come and play in the Premier League right now today and you're the hottest player that's coming out of Argentina and you're going to go and play for a club. Who are you going to go to now is probably the biggest question. Is it going to be City? Is it going to be Arsenal? Is it going to be Liverpool? Is it going to be Chelsea? Obviously, Arsenal just won the Premier League so they're up there. I think the rest of them are all pretty much the same now for me.
36:45Nicky:It's not like anyone's standing out. But Man United is probably one of the top two biggest football clubs in the world. I don't care what anybody says. You've got Real Madrid, you've got Man United. Do I agree? We're all agreed on that. And it's just like, who are you going to go to? It's not really one that you're going to go, I'm going there right at the minute, out of the top five. Right, all right then. Just say a name to me and be dead honest, right? You're young players, you're thinking about medals and everything else. I'm going to say a club and you just say the club or United if you were you going to go to it right we've got to take our Man United head off though yeah so this is no I feel a bit sick right Arsenal sorry what was to say you either go yeah Arsenal or no United Arsenal United going off everything we've just talked about and present squads present squads medals that's what you're going to a club for you're going to win medals they'll pick Arsenal right now who pick that's the question no it's not me is it no you're taking yourself out of it you're just going purely like what the clubs are doing now Arsenal right Man City Man United the Pep facts is gone I'm telling you the players are leaving Rodri's leaving Bernardo Silva's left they're still a fantastic squad and great players and they are still a dominant force but they're not what they was like with Pep what are you saying I've got Bill Hague, honestly.
38:22No comment. Oh. Well, that means he's... I've already said it before. All right, okay. All right.
38:28Nicky:Liverpool. Man United. Man United. Spurs. Man United. Yeah. You're wasting your time now. Chelsea. Man United. So it's either Arsenal or City. Are the two clubs where you're going, they're the exception. no I think Man United before City right okay I think Man United because Pep's gone and and winning medals who do you think is the next team can win the league Man United or Man City probably Man United I think so yeah I do I don't know I think there's a lot even though I'm the biggest Man United fan going you can't never overlook what Man City have done I thought you had a City title I know yeah last 10 or 15 years they've been amazing yeah but even the the staunchest Man City fan right now I've got a load of mates who are they cannot sit here and also say they've not gone since Pep's gone and Rosary's potentially gone and John Stone's gone and all the great players they've gone like that now Man United you'd like to think have gone more like that do you know what I mean still got great players at City though if you look on the other side of it though Pep haven't won the league for two years maybe they it's still Pep it's still Pep it's like wow hey random one lads this has just come to my head have you ever seen a manager come in for another manager who looks exactly the same who you're talking about Maresca and Pep fucking I looked at television I thought oh you're back Pep it's fucking Maresca have you ever has no one got on to this it's exactly the same look he's got to be under pressure with his fascia on the sideline isn't he honestly I've never seen a manager take over from a manager who looks exactly the same did you see on Mourinho's documentary that he signed the contract or agreed to go to Man United.
40:15Nicky:This blew my mind. I didn't see it, I didn't know that. So this is before David Moyes. Before David Moyes, yeah. He agreed to come to Man United. Where was he then, Chelsea? I can't remember where he said he was. Who are you talking about, sorry? Mourinho. And basically, he rang up Sir Alex and said, basically, I apologise for going back on my word that I'm not going to be going. And I never knew that. Was that a fact? He's documented it. He said it himself, yeah. Isn't it funny that when you hear something like that all these years later? Because I remember when Moyes got the job at United and again me I'm like wow I didn't see that one coming even though Moyes is a good manager I've seen it coming only because well not just like I'm a genius I've seen it coming it was the most obvious one because Sir Alex was part of that picking and obviously David Moyes is the kind of manager that knows the Premier League he's worked on a budget at Everton did a fantastic job there obviously had a relationship with the manager at the time and it was a no-brainer him coming in for me he was someone who's steady-headed and knows what to manage a big club.
41:14Nicky:Did you think that? I do think he underestimated the size of Man United's football club. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Massively. I felt it had been rumoured for a while, hadn't I? Right. And as Nicky said, with the manager picking it, I think he's probably quite a similar character to what he was. Look, his credentials were brilliant, weren't they? Obviously, he wasn't in and around winning Premier Leagues and stuff, but what he'd done out of it was brilliant. And what you can't argue with United back then, after Moise, If you look at the managers they brought in, fucking absolute worldies. It just didn't work.
41:47Nicky:They've tried everything, haven't they, since the last one's gone? They tried the superstar ones, then Van Gaal, the Mourinho. They've tried their old-fashioned, sorry, their old players, Oli. They've gone again with a couple of... I thought Van Gaal was done. I thought Van Gaal was finished at the time, though. There weren't many big clubs in for Van Gaal. Really? They're talking about going to Tottenham at once. Don't get me wrong, he's been an unbelievable manager, of course, he hasn't coached. but I think his time had gone. You worked with me though, didn't you? You were right in there. Giggsie loves him.
42:17Giggsie said he was brilliant. Van Gaal, Mourinho was there with them. To be fair, nobody's got it right. David Myers. So since the right way, nobody's got it right now. If he had had signed for United back then, 2013, do you think it would have been business as usual, winning leagues, winning titles?
42:35Nicky:Mourinho was definitely it. Even though I loved Mourinho, he was there and I spoke about it a lot. he was fantastic certainly from my point of view with a job that i did at the time in the academy he was just doing the same he'd come in two or three years one year trophy or two and then left and that's not a bad thing that's what he was legal i'm not saying he wasn't me i'm saying either one something he'd got he'd done what he does everywhere he goes and he got the the play that the team playing the way he wants to play and it won something and that's phenomenal from me looking at it from a coaching point of view but from a Man United point of view they looking when they went with David Myers they wanted something that's going to resemble Sir Alex and you're never going to get that and I think City will find that now with a pep scenario
43:25One thing Maresco has not got to deal with is as I've just said they haven't won the league for two years so that's almost a little bit of an advantage I keep hearing the one about Liverpool the influence Klopp had on him everyone still talks about Klopp I feel sorry for this manager it's almost and do you know what I think he only won the league once but people are going on about like Klopp won the league 10 times out of 15 seasons yeah we're always like I think with Klopp they won it that season but it were always when they were second it were like a point or two do you know what I mean I just think the legacy Klopp has left is very much similar to Sir Alex, but totally different, if you know what I mean.
44:11Not one as much as him, obviously. No, nowhere near as much, but everyone's going back to clock this, clock that, and I think this manager's going to have to deal with it as well. 44:46Right, lads, that prize guy has a mega draw for us. They're making someone a millionaire for just 25 pence this very summer. Head over to thatprizeguy.co.uk for the chance to become a millionaire for just 25 pence. This week, we're going to be doing something a little bit different. Everyone at home will be sorting their fantasy football teams out for the new season. So we're going to give them a little bit of help and make their picks a little bit easier. Firstly, do you play fantasy football? No. Do you know what I've actually thought about? Lads in the Barbers have their own team. So I thought about it.
45:23I just can't be asked to change it every week.
45:24Nicky:It's all right picking, but it's when you've got to do all your subs and all that. Yeah, that's what I mean. Can I suggest an easy one to do? but it does ruin football for you playing fantasy football it ruins it like week in week out if it doesn't go well I'm in a celebrity league it's a private though Ant and Dec come on Ant and Dec are in there Robbie Williams Big Tom Davis plenty of us in there plenty of us in there your name's been dropped there but it fucking ruins football anyone who does FPL Dream Team or whatever it can ruin your weekend. Yeah, can I imagine? Yeah. Right, so let's just give the subscribers a little bit of a heads up here on who you two think.
46:11Let's start with the most important position on the pitch, which is... Centre forward. Goalkeeper, correct. Raya or Donnarumma?
46:21Nicky:I like Donnarumma better, but purely the way Arsenal play till not concede too many goals, they go Raya. Donnarumma. I hope that's helped you folks. Are we supposed to agree? I made sense, didn't I? You made sense, I agree. Right, defenders, Gabriel or Van Dijk? Gabriel.
46:44Gabriel. Yeah. You both absolutely spot on there. Thank you. He racked a load of points up. He's a dream team hack. Point machine. Yeah, he's a point machine.
46:56Nicky:Did he hear something about Madrid try to get in? Don't know. Really? I think Arsenal would be out of their mind to let him go. Yeah, I agree. Declan Rice or Dominic Sabozlai? So how's that working with you? I think Sabozlai got more assists. I reckon last year Sabozlai got more points. He did. And the reason is, so all the midfield things, what you'd expect, count. But you get points now for like runs and taking people on. I get they're taking people on one but the runs it's just people start running all over the show it's a buzz lie for me I think they've got to be positive runs though you know what gets me with that is when you do the you know when you do the overall distance covered if you're always out of midfield and you've got a massive distance covered it means probably you're out of position too much do you know what I mean makes sense all this just doesn't makes sense it ruins young kids' minds with how they should play the games hey just a bit of fun this though isn't it lads you know we're not all about fucking ruining players seasons subscribers just want to hear a few fantasy picks Rice for me I think Rice is a good pick in fantasy football but honestly Sir Bosley offers more you're thinking about you're not thinking about the fantasy pick you're thinking about the actual player playing pick you know what they'd be very good together wouldn't they yeah and you asked me no no that's alright okay Fernandez Bruno Fernandez or Ryan Cherky Bruno Ferranos is going to play every single week every minute of every game I'm not sure about Turkey again a valuable asset when it comes to any fantasy team is a player who's a 90 minute man because you get points if your player plays 90 minutes Turkey's just going to be in and out isn't he yeah this is taking 90 minutes Cole Palmer or Biakou oh Bukayou Saka oh Palmer or Saka Cole Palmer well you'd be wrong I'd say Saka I'd be wrong I'm talking about this season so I'd be wrong because Saka is a points machine and Parma isn't consistent enough last season he had an absolute stink he had a lot of injuries he's got a new manager he's going to believe in him Saka had injuries last season he's still got more points than Parma Parma and Parma have they played for the last three months of the season hey shall we do it this season fancy it I need help off the lads though to remember to put the subs in and people spend their injury I just don't do it lads do you want to come into the the fantasy league with the lads no I'll give it a miss I'll give it a go I'd spoil it because I wouldn't I wouldn't keep on top of it there's I think there's instructions with it and stuff there's instructions but I'm telling you what you'll get into it it's a lot easier than the FPL am I going to be like in the same group as Anton Deck You will be in the same group.
49:56Hey, last season... How have you not got in the fucking jungle and you must have mired the life out of them? You must have done. I love that. I get asked to do some of those every year and every year it's the same answer. No, because I don't want two lads that I know throwing buckets of shit on me in Australia. I reckon every year the answer is, how much? Show me the money. remember get yourself over to that prize guy.co.uk for your chance to become a millionaire for just 25 pence this episode is sponsored by better help chaps growing up mental health when you talk about it now it's pretty much kind of i'd say a lot more prevalent where people talk about things and you see things there's a lot more stuff you can get involved with when we were growing up very early you heard anyone talk about anything like that.
50:51But like I say, thankfully now it feels like everyone's starting to realise how important it is. Mental health now is a big part of it. And clubs do that. Clubs look after them. There's psychologists everywhere. You think a difference. Golf, even individuals, they all have psychologists to get over things like this. I think it's brilliant if you can go and speak to somebody

52:14would get 100 points in this season's Premier League?
52:22Probably would, yeah. I don't think Premier League's that good this year. I could tell you how you went live. I wouldn't have a clue. It's sad to say,
52:33Nicky:but they'd certainly be up there scoring loads of goals. When we played, it was, they score three, you score four. They score four, you score five. It was very much that mentality. so we were liable to get beat but we would never go like the Invincibles and not get beat but we'd definitely score the most amount of goals if my team won I'd prefer it that style yeah I'd love that yeah brilliant always reminds me of them old school like there's been a few Liverpool Newcastle games over the years that have been a bit like that you know you like basketball don't see many of them now do you I know Sam's saying Rodri is an all-time Premier League 11 whether he leaves City this summer or not I always think it's difficult to do an all-time because football changes and I think he is a phenomenal footballer let's say last decade certainly oh yeah definitely last decade but not the all-time when you're going back you're thinking Keane Vieira all these types Chelsea's saying this season could be a Leicester type season where we see a shock Premier League winner what Leicester did was it's outrageous it's unbelievable what they've done but it shows it's possible who can do anything like that again I think now is the best time to do that if you can the one team no doesn't do that I think Tottenham are going to be alright this year they'll never have it again for about 20 years 30 years if it never happened again you won't be surprised I tell you what that's why I'm looking forward to next Monday's episode because we'll get into the predictions who's staying up who's going down also this week how many times are you going to change who wins the league is that week by week we need to make a note of that by the way this year every other week is getting bigger by the way is it every other week or every three weeks you're going to pick it and you're keeping it and you're not changing your mind saying all this and then coming with your wolf top on after two games and then going back to Liverpool and saying I said that in the first place we'll let you do it once a month if you want right last season two things I said right which you poo-pooed.
54:41You in particular. I said, Donnarumma gives City a chance of winning the league. You went, no it doesn't. How'd you come up with that? That was clever of you. No, I think I... Excuse me, you two disagreed with it. You two disagreed with it. You two disagreed with it. I think I agreed with that. Yeah, you did. After about fucking eight games. You didn't agree straight away when I said it. I said Donnarumma was the sign of the season. You said it straight away, mate. No, you didn't. Yeah, you did. I did. Hey, Mods.
