In short
The episode is a World Cup 26/England-focused football chat plus a Manchester United transfer and a “Built Different” segment. Topic 1: England’s semi-final setup—debate over Thomas Tuchel’s post-match comments and Jude Bellingham’s interview tone after England “won ugly” despite not playing their best.
Key claims
pundits are “stirring” division; Tuchel is keeping players grounded; Bellingham’s honesty is justified by his form (six goals in the tournament).
Notable examples
Tuchel’s view that England haven’t looked like a “proper football team” consistently; discussion of substitutions (Eze’s impact, concern about bringing on an unfit/low-rhythm player like “Kobe Mainu”/“Cobby Mane”); comparisons to past tournament controversies (e.g., Roy Keane-like handling in an office, and historical England/France 98 memories). Topic 2: Man United sign Youri Tielemans—35m release clause; fits alongside Bruno, with uncertainty about midfield pairing. Topic 3: “Built Different” on Erling Haaland—release clause/transfer speculation, his mentality, and a mouth-tape sleep routine.
Guests

It can help you with practically anything on the web, like restoring a vintage motorcycle from a 50-page restoration block, or finally break down that long article you've had open for weeks. Gemini and Chrome is here for it. Ready to make anything online make sense? There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required, compatibility and availability varies 18+. Our old battery's the same. That's like asking if all soccer players are the same. Take Messi, the most decorated player ever.
1:06Is there any other player who has achieved that? No, just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with Power Boost ingredients inside? No, just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different. And Messi only trusts Duracell. Welcome to the good, the bad and the football Sponsored by Midnight The betting app that's built different Folks Folks Oh England are in the semi-finals of the World Cup The sun's shining Life is good And speaking of sunshine and heat Do you remember last week when we were My idea about us setting up our own Ercon company and you were saying, oh, there's too many out there, it's this, it's that and the other.
1:57Well... You've been Googling, haven't you? I saw a headline the other day, lads, to show you this. Whoosh! Shops run out of Ercon units. Now, this whole story is about the lack of Ercon units in the UK and the lack of companies demanding so I...
2:19Nicky:So, that is obviously a headline. It's a full story. But, however, that's just going to heat wave in July. What about in December and January, February, March, April, May? They blow hot. They run out of heaters. They go hot and cold, Nicky. Now, listen, I'm just saying... Have you ever seen that headline where it said Elvis been found on the moon? That's a headline. It's not true. PNP, that's our company. Sounds good. Sounds like an Ercon company. I'm not getting involved in that company. Lads, I'm telling you now, we could be... We've got to do this Ercon company. We've got to set it up. mobile I'm not about us turning up at people's houses with fucking screwdrivers well hey lads Paul Nicky and fucking Paddy what the fuck do you think it is I don't know PMP in fact fuck it you're out of the business you good fucking out of the business you're the one who'll get us all the bad reviews on TripAdvisors good turned up put it on the fucking outside and the house is still inside right well listen hey life's good semi-finals are they allowed to celebrate a bit, now you two in the changing rooms after we're in the semi-finals of the World Cup.
3:25Nicky:Did they celebrate? Yeah, of course you did. Yeah, a little bit. Alright, no, you were a bit down on that last week, you two. No, it's not being down. It's just, it doesn't fit that in me. I'm not seeing anything this time, have you? Individuals are different. I wouldn't be celebrating in a quarter-final semi. Yeah. When they get to a final, I think they can scream from the hilltops or whatever they want to do, but they've still got a long way to go. They weren't celebrating, they were all doing interviews, weren't they? Weirdly, this 2-Cull Bellingham interview Has taken over Or has detracted from Winning the game Which wasn't great I know But I've got to say I was wound up with your man Doing that Yeah I was wound up by him Because He even did it in a You know when You get grassed on at school And someone say Sir Such a money did such a thing that's how he did it and it wound me up and he took everything out of context and I'm going why are you doing that and again sorry I've got my salt box out what is it with us as a country England where we have to fucking try and find negatives in everything if you lot as pundits totally fine dissect the game wasn't the best but we've got a result I've not got an issue with that but going oh putting that on Tuchel he did then going straight to Bellingham trying to shit stir why?
4:52fucking why? just let's have a bit of positivity he's done his job no that's not his job what are the old world Paul PNP PNN PNN right what is the old world talking about Gabriel Clarke's interview he's just done his job as Roy would say he's done his job
5:16Nicky:No, for me, I don't see what the big deal is. Tuchel's come out and said what he believes. They didn't play as well as they could do. Sticking with Tuchel, aren't you? And he's literally gone. He's basically saying, you know, we couldn't play better. And he's obviously thinking ahead of the games. And he's keeping the lad's feet on the ground. I agree. He's basically saying, next game, we've got to play better. And he's right. Then Jude goes on. And he's just come off a pitch where he's just won. And when you're a player and you're playing in knockout phases of a championship, you just want to win.
5:43Nicky:Yeah. If you don't play perfect, what would you rather do? play perfect football and get beat or win they've won ugly and then on to the next one I just don't see why we're getting so big kerfuffle about it the way I see it they've both been very honest that's all they're doing yeah but try and put a little bit division in we're in the semi-final it's the division I don't like yeah but he didn't give Bellingham's answer did he no but how he put it to him Bellingham's the one who's created that no but how he put it to him by the way your gaffer's just said you were shit no he didn't say that next but no he didn't say that That was the sentiment behind it.
6:16Your performance wasn't great, was it? And he's... He's right, isn't he? Yeah, he's exactly right. Both right. He's right. Tuka will be very disappointed with the way the England played in every single game. They had a spell in the Croatia game where he thought, can I look a good team here? Other than that, performance haven't been great at all. They haven't put a performance where you thought, can I look a good team? They look a proper football team. But that's because of the squad he's picked. He's not picked footballers in his squad. SAU the football he's picked hasn't played alright he came on second half Kobe Mainu why is he there by the way it seems like it's anybody but Kobe at the minute he's bringing Rhys James who haven't played for three weeks hamstring into the field can you just tell me what the thinking is there's only him I can't imagine being a problem in the camp I actually hope
7:07Nicky:Kobe doesn't come on now because he's so down he hasn't kicked a football in a real game he's trained obviously but if he goes in now the only thing he can do is bad he's not going to be at the level to go and play at that level now in a semi-final I hope he don't come on but going back to what Gozi was saying it's everybody but Cobby and you just said that a minute ago ABK anybody but Cobby letters
7:33acronyms they call it it's an acronym I helped him out though because I knew I could see I thought he's fucking struggling
7:38Nicky:he knows it's there but on the comments I think they're both right Tuchel's got his opinions and it'd be hard not to argue with him and the added factor that he's keeping the feet on the ground and then Bellingham's come off a game where he's played really really well he's scored two goals he's the main man at the minute with Kane but obviously that game last game he was the main man and he's saying so what we've won I get both of it you think sometimes on comments he's been a little bit brave but he's backed up by the performance he's backed up by his goals he's backed up by the win he's backed up by his six goals in the tournament so you almost think I can say what I want here it doesn't really matter look I know people say there's not a division between them but there's been something bubbling there with them two for quite some time now now as I said he knows you're not going to leave me out also he's not going to be kicking off with him they've got to like you said they've got to a semi-final he's just reacting going what do you mean we've gone through I've never seen this before though Nick is someone questioning your manager's comments after the game no I haven't but I don't think that was I don't think that was so much questioning just like he said what no but he went whatever he's obviously never played like that no he actually said well no he did he said whatever he said maybe he doesn't know what it's like to play in that heat against a team like that which is fucking they're quite strong comments to question your manager imagine us questioning our manager like that his comments after a game what would he have done you'd be in the office you'd be in the office yeah them comments that Jude makes they're for a private room they're for the office do you know when you said about if you want to say it do you know what I mean when you just said then about obviously he's not going to drop him were you just saying about Sir Alex let's just say Eric's come out and said something like that players who you kind of think at first names on the team sheet would he have dropped them I think they'd find a way I think he would I think he'd find a way of doing everything and pull him in and just have a chat and if he got like kind of a gaffer I didn't mean what I felt like came out like I was just emotional but if he said yeah I agree with what I said then there's an issue I think club football is very different as well you think about this as a one-off tournament so this could be the last game whereas in a league you can probably get away with leaving that I'm sure it happens to the big players it happens to Davy Beckham at the time you do get left away I don't really remember it happening to people like Roy but there will be times when you can leave your big players out not now but Roy was the one who sort of publicly did that out of all you United lads he's the only person I've seen sort of almost put it out there that he wasn't happy he didn't do it publicly he did it in the office it was going to go out publicly that was the MUTV thing so it was going to go out publicly that was against the players not against the managers but yeah I think it's a hopefully it's a storm in a tea cup and it moves on because great result crap performance brilliant result and if I'm an England fan I want to go all the way and win it easy answer isn't it what do you want to do go through or play well they've gone through scored goals on to the next one and now they're playing an Argentinian team that I've got some pure steel they've got obviously one of the best players ever lived but they've got a team spirit that we've got to match and we can't let anything like this stupid little interviews I think just the frustration has come from him from performance wise to Thomas Tuchel he expects his team to be good he expects them to play good football now we have said he hasn't picked a squad to play good not picked a squad he hasn't picked in the start of 11 yet to play brilliant flowing football it's just not going to happen I think the second half it looked like he was doing that but Eze just didn't seem to get into the game did he?
11:34Nicky:when he's come on I've gone oh we'll score a few goals here now we're going to be really expansive and it just didn't happen it was better when Saka come on but that's the problem when I'm going back to what I said about a couple of minutes ago when you're not playing you just get brought onto a game and expect to perform like you do for your club team it's really difficult I'm telling you get off the bench and go and play like that I'm glad you said that because when we're watching the game as fans I think all fans are guilty of that going why has he not done this way you know Eze came on and I was sat on the couch going fucking hell what's up with him today but you know it's quarter finals of World Cup you're trying to get into the game the heat you know so I do get what you're saying when you get on a run and the scores will tell you probably better than anybody when you get on a run you're playing 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 games when you get to that level and you you don't even remember the game everything just comes natural you don't remember a good pass or a good touch or a shot it just goes I just naturally did it but when you've not been playing you come on for a game you think about everything and you touch and it doesn't flow and you can see it there's no rhythm there's no rhythm to your game well like you say when you're playing games every week like that and you go onto a pitch confident there's no better feeling in the world going back to what we were talking about with this interview I think the reason it warmed me up so much is Nicky you just said about Argentina I watch them lads and we've said something on a few podcasts back about the ship out X amount of stakes and everything for the squad it feels like you know The butcher brought them out.
13:09The butcher brought them out. It feels as though that sort of feeling they've got in their team is so good and the countries behind them and everything, and the media and everything, but we have this thing about trying to put a little bit of, a few niggles in the camp. Like, we're in the semi-finals, fucking massages, do whatever. It's what British people do. I know. It's what we do with negative people. does my fucking head in I am but that's just the way and do you know what what should we be talking about now Jude Bellingham from centre midfield has scored six goals six out of six by the way at the World Cup it's a piss take I know it's incredible what he's doing it's amazing we still find something don't we we're good at it still going to try Harry Kane how many goals Harry Kane scored but do you know what I think our paths England and Argentina have been very similar I don't think any team has played that well but they've got through games you think of them against Egypt who are lucky really lucky against Cape Verde I mean I think it's been very messy I think the biggest thing advances to Argentina they've done it before they're a tournament they know how to they know how to win these big games they won the last World Cup they know how to do it we're yet to prove that it can be a bit tasty oh this will be live this this will be chaos this could be this could be 4-3 either way there'll be yellow cards red cards if Argentina lose they'll all kick off it's absolutely guaranteed And this game runs deep.
14:38If you lose them, it's horrible. Remember France 98? I wouldn't know. Fuck off, sorry. Yeah. Awkward. It was horrible. Yeah. Because they're all on the bus, they're on the bus next to them, they're all fucking shirts round their head. Argentina fly, Argentina scars. I wouldn't know if they lost them. They only won. Yeah. They like that. Yeah, so yeah, it wasn't nice. And I missed a big chance as well. France 98 should have scored. And then I might have been at fault for the free kick goal they scored as well. So, other than that, I really enjoyed it. We played him in 2002.
15:10Nicky:That's when Simeone kicked back. We played him and then Bex got the revenge with the penalty, didn't he, in Sapporo. I loved that game. What a game that was. Indoor Stadium. It's beautiful. Sapporo. It's like a baseball stadium, isn't it? It was amazing. This is going to be indoor. Yeah, Atlanta. The real roof's on. Ercon. Ercon. Are we going over? PMP. We'll go over. PMP. PMP. No. PMP. PMP. Yes, PMP, yeah, innit? I thought I fucking forgot my own company I was going to say MPP but PMP it's right also as well oh god I don't want to say this but I'm going to do I fancy us I fancy us I do I fancy us lads I think we can beat Argentina and Spain yeah but I'm not sure we can beat France I think we need Spain to beat France I think team against team we've got the better team however the only thing that really scares me a little bit is let's go said a minute, Argentina, their roots are about, they know how it is to win tournaments.
16:11Nicky:The players have won tournaments before, they've got the best players that's ever lived, they've got people that are just, they're a proper team. But I think we're a better team individually. I really do. I think, I don't think either team have been great. And I think they've found ways to win. They give us a win, but once you get to a semi-final, and do you know what, we've beat every team we should be beating. I always get a little bit worried when we come against a team and I think ooh who's the favourite I think it's totally 50-50 I think Argentina will probably edge it Argentina because they won it last month because of experience possibly I think it's a flip of a coin but I'd prefer our squad of players our team of players oh I do absolutely and that's including Messi and do you know what I know everyone we've talked about France right from the get go and they are an unbelievable team but the fact that it's them against Spain who are another favourite I really fancy Spain getting a really boring 1-0 win just shutting France down and then like you said even though they're a great side Spain but I'd fancy us more certainly then against France in the final can we back that we've just got to win our semi-final and just worry about the final we get there Spain have just got to keep the ball off France if they can do that for a long period then they'll have a chance No, obviously, two key players, Kane and Bellingham, everyone's talking about.
17:36Gary Lineker reckons, this is a, again, he's saying Bellingham could end up being one of England's greatest players.
17:45Nicky:He's 22 and he's doing what he's doing, 23 and he's doing what he's doing. He could 100 % end up, and I say end up, but you can't say he is now. No, not now. But you can't argue with that quote. He's been phenomenal. and don't forget he was phenomenal when he made his name in the Euros as well was it two years ago three years ago what was it with the Covid thing yeah I don't know the Euros he was phenomenal then he made his name there yeah in Germany yeah just literally unbelievable football his physicality he's massive he's quick he's powerful he's got an edge about him he's aggressive ticks every single but and the thing that you're noticing now with some of our younger players that are coming through they're all getting the experience of playing abroad as well and we never had that did we went into it like Scores he's mentioned it a few times on podcasts we used to go into tournaments to try to play like we do in the Premier League and you just cannot do it, these lads are experiencing it, he's played in Germany he's now in Spain, obviously Gordon's going out there as well, Kane's out in Germany, it's a massive it's massive for him.
18:41Can you actually believe that before the tournament some journalists were writing leave Judah home? I know Do you know what it is, because Real Madrid no one's arsed watching it, so they think ah, what's he doing? We actually said on here, right at the side of World Cup But the preparation for him for this World Cup has been brilliant. He was out for two or three months. He's in fresh. Fresh as a daisy. I don't know how many games he's played, maybe 10 games for Real Madrid. Even less, he was perfect for it. And as well, playing at Real Madrid, you know, he's probably used to a bit of sunshine and the heat.
19:13You know what I mean? That'll go for him as well. Do you know what? A lot of people talk about the heat and struggling to play in it. Saturday was the first game where they really had to deal with it. Was that the fifth game? We did. Yeah, but I'm extra inside of it as well.
19:26Nicky:and it was the first time we did it and the team we were playing against were going to struggle exactly the same as we were going to struggle so you get that little bit of luck and that's what makes me think we're going to go all the way and do it but did you see Harlan's dad oh now he's clearly when you talk about the heat he's having a good time haven't he have you ever had an ale in the heat we all have it's different and he only was sat and he's given it that I thought especially at champagne he's got to him he's had a few he's had the old Viking haul now giving it one of them and he's thought I'm not having this he's certainly enjoying himself isn't he and some of the quotes he comes out of I'd like to think I wouldn't want to embarrass my son like that well I was going to say I'll ask you both because you can talk about or not talk about it's fine by me but when you as players when you've played the game have you ever seen people who's like you don't have to name them but where they have that family member you go in everyone has it you go mum, dad, brother whatever you go pipe down what you're doing have you ever seen that I think my daughter's probably a little bit like that with me after some of those stuff I write on Instagram about those games of netball she's like dad shut the fuck up I went and watched sorry to go I didn't know the rules about basketball I watched a bit of it because of netball netball sorry and I watched a bit of it because of Alicia but before that my daughter was playing netball at school and I'm going I'm sat there I'm going what the fuck it's called Jersey Jersey what are you doing I'm just looking like this and I'm going get forward get a boy she's like to me shut up dad and I'm going get a boy and have a shot she went I'm not allowed in that half and I was going oh just don't just shut up just shut up Nick so yeah I could have been one of them dads the netball dad but you could argue with Ireland's dad he's played the game so he understands it you know he's played it at a good level hasn't he but he's famous for being Ireland's dad now do you know what I mean he's not famous for himself well done Bellingham and thank you to the referees oh and referees yeah anyway he's enjoying himself so who are we to comment He brought it down as well, Dennis, so that tells you that a few.
21:26Nicky:Yeah.

What makes Haaland built different to the rest of us? firstly I didn't know this Oli Gunnar Solskjaer wanted him at United and they almost got him he had a 20 million euro release contract
22:31Nicky:could never happen I believe so I think it was obviously the Norwegian connection with Oli he had him in for his team didn't he Mulder Mulder at a young age I think did he what would he have been he wouldn't have been a young boy then obviously he's getting up Oli or Harlan Harlan I think Harlan was about 14 or 15 I'd imagine 14-15 last bit of school for football 45 I reckon so why did it not go through do we know well I think his dad will have a lot to do with it don't you with City connection well now United and Roy connection with his dad oh fuck I'm not saying that is but oh yeah look United all he knows what he's talking about they were centre falls especially and they've obviously so Roy Keane is the reason I'm not saying that I'm not saying that but there's I would have thought there's a good chance that might have something to do with it.
23:21I don't know. One of the things with him, obviously, what I love about Haaland is how he is kind of outside of football. He just seems like quite fun, easy going, great team mate to have around. Not a care in the world, has he? Yeah. He's brilliant.
23:41Nicky:And he does that walk. Yeah. He walks, right? I like the fact that he knows exactly what he is. The footballer, he's a beast of an athlete and just score goals and he's happy with that that's all he wants to do is this goal machine now I'm sure he's capable of doing a hell of a lot more but he knows the most important thing on a football pitch is putting the ball in the back of the net and he does it better or if as good as anybody else in the world that is an unbelievable mentality because when you're a footballer you just want to touch the ball all the time of course you do you want to be in possession you don't care you can go through a game but he's gone through a game with less touches than 10 touches on a ball yeah you can believe so I probably scored two or three goals in a game like that.
24:21It's amazing. Yeah. Really. That's like just the level of concentration as well, things like that. When you're a fan of football and you read something about a football and you think, I'm going to do that, that'll make me better. Like Messi has crunching up cornflakes for his breakfast. I'll have crunching up cornflakes for my breakfast. That'll make me like Messi. I read something about Harlan. and I'm going to show you now. So he takes his sleep very seriously and he uses, it's called sleep mouth tape, right? Because apparently breathing through your nose when you're sleeping is better for you.
25:03Nicky:What's different between mouth tape and normal tape? It's actually breathing through your mouth. Well, I should imagine this specific mouth tape doesn't cause you damage to your lips. Now I thought because they were for your nose Yeah do you remember them those were fashion like Robbie Fowler Yeah so these go on your mouth Harlan puts these on his mouth I mean I've got to say if you're a burglar coming into his house and you see that lay on the bed with a blonde over these over his mouth you'd shit yourself Let's have a look how do you get these off here You get the middle bit though Have you just took that off then You should maybe put that on it over his dad I've ripped it Put it over his dad have you done it no I think you've done it you've done it the wrong way what way is it you just took all your tash off what way is it I'll fucking do me own in the middle you've got to do it in the middle in the middle you've got a separate bit in the middle look so what do you do seriously literally put it over your mouth oh Paddy come on fucking hell what's going on here with this fucking how you're supposed to pass it here Paddy I tell you what you go to sleep I actually thought you wouldn't be able to breathe but you can can't you so see I think you've done it wrong it's like that what don't be stupid absolutely not don't be fucking stupid absolutely not don't be stupid obviously it's over your mouth you dope it's the shape of a mouth isn't it like that now I can still breathe through my mouth I think that's the idea that's what I'm thinking yeah that's the idea no no the idea is you breathe through your nose do you know what I mean the idea is you're very short and because you breathe through your nose it's better for your fucking brain so obviously you've looked into this what's the effect of it I'm going to tell you so I'm going to try it tonight because I actually felt a little bit sleepy when I put it on I mean Jesus I can't believe what I'm hearing no I can see where it's coming from you've got to be doing that I'll say you get sleepy with them get two on fucking pirate two on your eyes get two on oh let's put my fucking eyelash off them fucking hell right I'll give you the so it's to force nasal breathing rather than mouth breathing some people believe it enhances recovery boosts sleep quality and increases oxygen delivery to the brain and muscles and you know who them some people are whoever fucking invented this why don't they just keep their mouth shut because everyone else has gone that's a load of shit why don't they just go like that it makes you score goals when you're asleep you keep your mouth shut when you sleep no you don't no you don't you go out when you sleep you didn't on the fucking train how do you know you didn't on the train that day exactly I do you were catching flies you were that that train I keep my mouth shut how do you know because I fucking know how do you know there's videos everywhere speak to his say he's missing because he keep his mouth shut when he's fucking asleep I mean I'm not having that Paul is Paul is early I've got to say he is I'm having it I don't know if I'm just tired but when I put it on my mouth I felt relaxed Please God, tell me you're taking a piss.
28:13I'm deadly serious. It's full of shit. You can't relax that quick. I'm deadly serious. How can you relax? We're in the middle of chatting. They don't send you to sleep. They're just for breathing. They don't do anything to make you go to sleep. I could feel it straight away. I told you about that word, aren't I? Do me a favour. I'll never ask you to do this again ever in your life. But when you're in bed tonight, send me a selfie. Can't want to see if you're fucking sleeping with that. Have you got any of them? I'll definitely try that, man. That was built different, powered by Midnight. Built for now, not like the old school bookies.
28:47It's quick to use, simple to navigate with no messing about. Remember, you've got to be 18 or older and please gamble responsibly. I want to talk about Declan Rice. Obviously, didn't look anywhere near it. I mean, I was sat on my own on the couch. Yeah, I got the kids to bed and I'm looking at me, imagine every friend going, fucking any chance in putting a decent ball in? and why start him? Well, he's worth taking a risk because he's important to the team.
29:16Nicky:He'd have also said I'm alright. He's a qualified he's not going to not do that and my mindset would have been at least I've got to try from Naku which obviously was and he had everything going on with him, diarrhoea, dehydration, the lot and he's given it a go and he's come on. Have you ever played poorly like that? I played once really bad at Sheffield United. Remember when Eric scored that dink, windy, horrible. It was horrible when I was subbed. It was horrible like cold and everything yeah I played at Liverpool away once I've been in bed for two days sick of the dog yeah early morning Saturday morning kickoff that's a man Michael Thomas it was Michael Thomas could play on it it was disco there's nothing in you is it sir has he got the shit so what what what you do when you get it all on an afternoon yeah but when happens you dehydrated the heat all the world's define it'd be fine for Wednesday now I'm talking about acting for 20 minutes would not mention Messi really what about him never played against England before ever but he can do anything he wants on a football pitch might be a bit of a problem for Dan Byrne that if he comes on I mean Dan Byrne he'll be alright in the air against him I think if Dejan gives you up I think he'll be alright well he scored against us I went there United didn't he didn't score an header Messi in the final was that not an header yeah he did Barcelona in Rome what a player he can do anything he wants on a football pitch we were talking off air before with Scolzi the interesting thing is everyone thinks that he just walks around now he does he did that a while ago you had mentioned it a while ago he did it a while ago but when the ball comes to him he just comes alive you see all his teammates come alive when he gets the ball and he's the one for me that obviously it's quite an obvious thing to say I don't know how he mark him I don't know what you do with him because if you go and put a man mark against him which Alex said about you guys with G Anderson it's like who do you go and because if you go and put him against him you basically take him away from your team because he's just got to be with him every second of that game.
31:09Nicky:You can't switch off for one second. So who would you put against him? There are some players where you need to, like G did it against Pirlo, two games, home and away. Yeah. I've got to be honest, because Pirlo's not Messi. No, no, no. I was just going to say that now. G could do it against anybody. If anybody could do it against Messi, it would have been G. Well, what do you do now? The only person I can see... Anderson. No. The only person I see Possible do is Declan Rice. but the other thing that our manager always said it's just the nearest one to him yeah he says that was all time the nearest one to their best player makes sense doesn't it it does make sense we were talking before as well about Paul Parker against remember Paul Parker yeah he was asked to man mark Romario United Barcelona Old Trafford I think Romario scored after about 90 seconds Paul Parker rips his groin and Paul Parker as well was a top defender he was back then I didn't play with G so I don't know but Scores obviously speaks really highly and they all do about man marking do a job Parks was that kind of man marker he could man mark anybody in the Premier League I've never seen anyone get twisted up like that off Romario it was ridiculous it was like abuse G was like the really quiet the loveliest lad young mate really good football as you say but he loved it was like an army mentality and he used to even come out on the training pitch and sometimes he wouldn't say he'd just come and stand right next to me just looking at me.
32:35This is as we're warming up in the boxes. So he was like saying, I'm just going to man-mark you today all day. And he did. And it's fucking nightmares. Oh, yeah. Legs are like rubber. Yeah. You can't get past him. Now, I don't think we've got anybody who can do that. And as Nicky said before about Messi, did we say the stats on there last week were 6.6 kilometres in a game. Yeah, it's nothing, is it? 60 % of it's walking. But as Nicky said there, I went to Barcelona Valencia 10 years ago just did the same but as soon as that ball comes near him I think that's a bit of bang bang bang goal
33:10Nicky:I think that's a bit of why obviously he's a genius but as well he can serve his energy that well that when he gets the ball he can do anything he wants he's going to be so hungry in this game never played against England before this is going to be massive for him we've played a few times against England haven't we sorry against Iain and literally they hate us it's a rivalry we all talk about rivalries always England, Germany that's as big oh of course it is I think it's bigger you've got all the stuff that happened in the history it's bigger because you don't play against them as often as well and take away the rivalry every single one of their players you can imagine being proper lads can't you you know proper they'll go to war they'll go to war with anybody and they'll be able to handle themselves South Americans plus they've got the footballers in that team as well it's going to be a tough tough game Did they all play up to that big hard man thing?
34:05Everyone's singing Argentina. Argentina. The pussycats were like, I sat next to a couple of them in the dressing room. For some reason, I always sat next to Veron. Seba. Next to Carlos Tevez and Gabby Hainzer. All great lads. Don't mention Tevez. All great lads. No, they're brilliant. Tevez, yeah, sorry. But they're great lads, but they come across as they're hard lads, but they're not. They're anything but. Seba was last. Gabby Hines he's got the big fucking I've twat everyone but he's not like that they all play up to the crowd Argentina look off City lad it's just gone at my fucking head goals no no Aguero Aguero there's another one
34:49Nicky:a bit of something in him they're all their upbringing they're aggressive they're hard they're tough they're street wise that's why we got on with them street footballers I think that's why we got on with them and the fact they couldn't speak English I would definitely put our team against them, our squad I will, well speaking of that let's do it, here we go let's do a combined England-Argentina at 11-8 now, you know me, goalkeepers union I was watching Pickford in that game the other night I know it's his game but I was like for fuck's sake please just calm down with Pickford we just don't know what we're going to get I know you can't tell him to calm down I think people have tried to tell him to calm down it's not in his nature he's all over the place isn't he there was a couple the one he went down it spilled a bit I was like that's the thing he can be brilliant or he can cost you the game who knows what we're going to get I think he's due a good one I mean listen he's pulled off some good saves for us in this World Cup so there's no doubt in that but it was just when you like got that one goal advantage and it looked a bit it looked shaky I was thinking fuck please you need that you need your keeper at the back just to slow it down a bit he's one of them though who tells everyone else to calm down and he's the most fucking nervous.
36:02He's looking at everyone and he's like, God damn it. He's all over the fucking place. I can't fucking sit still. Right, so straight away, goalkeeper Pickford or Martinez? Martinez. Martinez. I think he's one of the best in the world, mate. He's more consistent. Look, don't get me wrong, he's a bit of a fruit looper as well, but every keeper's a fruit loop. He's got his ur dyed with the Argentinian flag and all that. Yeah, he could easily fuck up for them as well. Do you know what I mean? Right, okay, right back James or Molina James James but look he's never fit but James if he's fit centre back Stones or Romero Stones yeah same position Gehi or Martinez Gehi for me Gehi's a better defender I think Martin's better on the ball Gehi's a better defender
36:56Nicky:I think because of the yeah because of Stones is in there with there being the football centre back I think it's naturally gay with him yeah left back O 'Reilly or Tagliafico well done did you like that O 'Reilly just I'll say O 'Reilly because I can't say that other name Taggers the team on set midfield Anderson or McAllister McAllister McAllister for me I think he's a brilliant footballer scores goals I just I think he's very underrated he had a bad last year for Liverpool but the year before when they won the league he was brilliant he does get a goal yeah he's more chance of scoring a goal I'll go on McAllister I'm trying to look at partnership as well because my next one is going to be Rice I've got to say and all I don't know what to say McAllister what a surname for an Argentinian I know what's going on there did you throw the odd English Scottish what is it I don't know the odd strange name McAllister what's going on there his dad went on a high when it saw a while ago call him McAllister Rice or Enzo Fernandes?
Read the full transcript
38:01Rice. Rice? All day. I like Enzo Fernandes. We'll have to pick one here. I just did. I'll go Enzo Fernandes. Right. Shall I just toss the coin? No, you just say it. Rice. Rice. I didn't see any fucking coin get tossed, hasn't it? Just Rice. I was going to do and I could feel this fucking aggression. I can't be bored being aggressive on the thing. Bellingham or Paredes? yeah Bellingham all day long Bellingham in it yeah I mean this is a good player of ours but I know the answer here Saka or Messi we don't need to say anything just Messi stick him on
38:38Nicky:that's a ridiculous one Jack I know Jack's becoming more famous than any of us that should have been Bellingham or Messi that oh that would have been a fucking no it wouldn't yeah wouldn't it be a debate Messi's no one is touching Messi quite simple he has got a point he's got a point I'm just saying it would have been a better better question though wouldn't it because we'd have had to dropped Bellingham yeah Gordon or Rodrigo De Paul I like De Paul I like De Paul so different players them too it's I'd rather have Gordon I'm not saying that no in that team I've picked oh no because I haven't picked Rice you've picked Rice so you've got legs there I'll be going De Paul only because I just think it fits better with the rest of them but Gordon's been brilliant in his tournament I just think Enzo scores big goals in games sorry Rodrigo DePaul who's the other one?
39:30Gordon Gordon it's not a comparison because Gordon's a winger he's a central midfield player DePaul so why are they together? fucking what I don't fucking I'm just doing fucking hell for solidness and experience Rodrigo DePaul well done Paul here you go come fucking
39:55Nicky:agree with me eventually and then Kane or Alvarez to hustle on this Kane's probably the best finisher in the world I love Alvarez me and if he does you've got to put Kane if he does end up going to if he does go to Arsenal please please please pick Kane here Kane thank you give me a chance I'm just explaining my thought process I thought he's going to go Alvarez here I agree with everything I said yeah Kane thankful for that right so we've got let's have a look at the 7-4 England that'll do us won't it I don't think that's a surprise. I think we have got a better line-up than them, but they've got such experience in tournaments and street-wise, as everyone mentioned before.
40:34Nicky:Or they know how to win it. And they know how to win it, yeah. Flipper coin, Wednesday. Flipper coin. And they've got Messi. And they've got Messi, I know. Just on Alvarez, he's linked with Arsenal at the minute. Great signing from that. So it says, they stepped up the pursuit of Alvarez. Atletico are asking for 100 million. Arsenal are willing to spend 90 million if you're Arsenal you've got to put your own in your pocket if I say school maybe it's 100 million for him any big club just go and get him just go and get him it's not even I don't think there's a load of top class centre forwards knocking about is there if they assign him I know they've just won the league but is it kind of like put on massive favourites of winning it on the bounce do you think he's an out and out centre forward no I don't see him as an out and out number nine he's a drifter yeah he's a perfect partner for an out and out centre forward but what's he called it Jokeres Jokeres Jokeres Jokeres yeah where's haven't Atletico Madrid turned down 150 million euros already from Real Madrid what for Alvarez yeah I'm pretty sure they have I was at Barcelona unless they know it's going to be a bidding war and that's why but do you know like Premier League clubs obviously they won't want to sell him to Real Madrid of course they will so you might get him cheaper Arsenal might get him that'll be the advantage coming to the prime if he's 100 million what's that when Anderson's just gone for 130 million this is a game that's unbelievable lads lads off the press done deal Tillemans to United is it done it's done I think he's a very very good footballer 35 million pound release clause 29 year old great player is he slotting straight into that United team I think Depends who else is signed Yeah I think the bigger picture with that is who's going to play in there because obviously it's going to be him and Bruno It's going to be him and Bruno now Right okay Unless he plays him as a six It depends on how the player I can't see Telemans and Cobby Mane playing together They still need someone in there whether that's the Santos kid but Telemans has been great experience really good player knows the Premier League he is a very very good player if you look at the£35 million for him that's a phenomenal signing yeah it is it seems cheap that doesn't it very cheap well done to the recruitment team in 29 as well because they've needed to get a rocket on haven't they I know it's difficult with the tournament going on they still might need two in there when you were talking about sorry Mick go on but for£35 million let's get back to the fact that when we played Fulham last year and we had a few injuries the bench was horrendous we've tried to build a squad not just a starting 11 and if we want to compete in all four compositions that we're in this year have to build a squad and he's phenomenal that's why I'm saying they still might need more they still might need two more you think you've got Manor you've got Telemans is Santos done is that done done I you've got Santos done yeah it's done it's three players for Central Madrid still not enough Champions League three games a week still not enough still need another one do you know you were talking earlier about Bellingham having that little bit of time out and he's fresh as Daisy I think that'll be with Cobby when he comes back because he's gone out though he's not playing but he'll be keeping himself ticking over training with the lads and he'll come back he'll be chomping at the bits to start won't he of course he will United big year for him next year but again crazy that he's taking him over there must be I've not heard two Colts say his reasons is he still there I don't even see him sat on the bench or anything he'll be the first one to go to a World Cup run and not play a second there's a few that have done it over I remember Gareth Southgate there'll be some in this squad now there'll be a few who's the other one Chalabar Chalabar yeah that was another one because that was a late addition that wasn't it yeah there's been some very strange dealings in this World Cup do you think Tuchel likes players who tore the line as in like you know like this Bellingham thing because he's got a personality and he'll speak do you know what every manager has a favourite doesn't he yeah of course they do anywho before we move on to the next bit lads give us your predictions I'm so excited for it I fucking I hate being this excited.
44:53England will win
44:53Nicky:in extra time and it'll be 2-1 to England. 4-3. England. What a game that'd be. I don't know if I could say that. Red cards, yellow cards. Oh, we're going out, buddy. We're going out, buddy. It'll be chaos. Where are we going? Just going back to Tuchel and Bellingham. Your relationships with manager aren't always perfect, you know. Yeah. There will be some time but in our career we didn't like our manager and our manager won't like you so well get on it's part of it he's never always rose is it you don't have to love each other to play well he's still going to be a top player for you I think there'll be goals in it is this a controversial one 2-2 England win on penalties I couldn't do it I think it's not controversial but I'd take it wouldn't you I don't think I'd go handle that though could you fucking no I'd be asleep by that time about 2 in the morning I honestly don't know I'd go on if it go to penalties I'd be fucking beside myself the stress I think I think I think we could beat Argentina I think we could beat Spain France have frightened me to death but I think the only way we win the World Cup is if Spain beats France I can see what's happening we've had such a we've done well don't get me wrong I don't want to be on down but we've had a lucky run of it with the teams we've drawn Argentina Yeah, and then, but I think we'll beat Argentina and I think Spain will beat France and we'll play Spain in the final.

Chaps, growing up, mental health, when you talk about it now, it's pretty much kind of, I'd say, a lot more prevalent where people talk about things and you see things.
54:56There's a lot more stuff you can get involved with. When we were growing up, very rarely you heard anyone talk about anything like that but like I say thankfully now it feels like everyone's starting to realise how important it is. Mental health now is a big part of it and clubs do that, clubs look after them, there's psychologists everywhere, you think a difference with golf, even individuals they all have psychologists to get over things like this.
55:18Nicky:I think it's brilliant if you can go and speak to somebody that helps you get in a better place whether it's a tiny little bit of your confidence in sport or a bit in a normal day-to-day life that you need to speak to somebody about, there's nothing worse than having problems and sitting in your room and and keep them to yourself well remember with over 30 000 qualified therapists worldwide better help is one of the leading online therapy platforms having served over 6 million people globally it's easy to see why so many people choose better help if you've been thinking about therapy better help can help you take the first step sign up to get 10 off at betterhelp.com forward slash good bad football that's better help h e l p dot com slash good bad football i'm gonna ask you both a few questions and the other one's got to guess the right answer we're not gonna know anything about this you must have a fucking idea no not really no i'm gonna ask you questions lads i want you to write then your answers on the whiteboards and then we'll reveal who knows more about each person one at a time then I reckon this could be nil nil great quiz right here we go it's a shit quiz questions about Paul Scholes well Nick you're getting all I like that do I have to write my answer down as well don't I no because you'll say it for fuck's sake you're going to win then aren't you silly bastard no I could just say yes to everything me be him on questions about him I can just say yes to everything.
56:47He has got a point, actually. I can say yes or no. Because he could cheat. You can both cheat, couldn't you? So he has to write his down. Right, okay. What is Paul Scholes' favourite crisps? I've only known you lads properly for about a year or two. I think I could fucking get these right. Well, I can't, do you? Yeah. I don't even know the answer myself. Well, go on, you write it down. I reckon I'll tell you what you've put. Oh, you're trying to think of something at fucking left field now, aren't you? Put down what you just... I am, my favourite crisps. Don't put anything like fucking... He's just going to be a smart ass.
57:25That's what I mean, he'll change it now. He'll do something, he'll say it, he'll write everything, so I can't get it. Nicky, but what is Paul Scholes' favourite crisps?
57:34Nicky:Well, I'll just say... Reveal your answer. Yes, plain salt. Fuck off. Is that Sid? Fuck Sid? Who's favourite crisps are plain crisps? Exactly. Well, you're a boring bastard, man. I'm not fucking boring. I'd have said cheese and onion. I do like cheese and onion. What'd he say? Prawn cocktail. Fuck off. This is what I mean. You've done that on purpose. I've never heard you say mention prawn cocktails ever. Every time he's in a pub he doesn't have fucking plain crisps. Do a fuck. Prawn cocktail? No way. They're cheating. Don't make them up. Put your first answer. My kid's life, that's what I thought.
58:14Right, all right then. but you've fucking changed that a few times then I would change it like we all would with Chris wouldn't I right alright then question number two if Paul could have played for any other team in the world apart from Manchester United who would he have played for I know this I know what you're going to say I know this you're both wrong I know this he's spoken about this team quite a few times you're both wrong right he's going to go we don't know what it is but he's going to change it I'd say Barca I'm saying Barcelona Holden fuck off you're stupid he's winding us up
58:47Nicky:Barcelona he's done it I thought he'd been like David James how did you know that I've said that before how did you know that you talk about Barcelona you don't realise you've got Tourette's of Barcelona you right come on move on I love Barcelona right what's Paul's worst habit ooh interesting hmm habit I wouldn't say it's a habit I'd say it's a personality trait you're very negative that's what I'm saying thanks for that very negative fucking has to have a go at you about everything that's why my wife left me thanks for reminding me it's all she ever said to me you're so negative me too me too well this is where you I mean he's going to be wrong this boy it's a really bad habit he has oh I like this what's the question again bad habit what's your worst habit have you a bad habit It's not a habit, it's just...
59:44What you do. Pick your nose. Yeah, something I don't like.
59:47Nicky:It pisses me off as well. No, this isn't a habit. It's a tough question. I don't know what you've got. Well, I know it's going to be different because you just said one fucking letter, one word there. Go on then. He leaves without saying bye to you, so he'd just fuck off in the bar. Oh, you did leave him on the train of sleep. He just fucks off. He did it on a train. Yeah, I did. He did it in the Wembley game. He just fucking leaves. You're like, where's it going? I just wrote a bad sleeper. That's all. I didn't know what to put... he rubbed it off before we'd seen it how are we supposed to know that yeah but I used to share a room with him do you know what I mean I was a terrible sleeper but yeah that's right that's right I'm telling you that all fucking time you know when he fell asleep on the train you never leave you really pulled in why don't you just go getting off now I'm getting off like you just he woke up you're not the worst one you're not the worst one when you're in a bar in a pub and you're thinking where's God is he alright is he something happened just fucking goes that's a bad habit that right and your final question if you had to describe Paul in one word what would it be one word one word put it down boring you can't fucking tell him the things in one word I'm not good at words I'm numbers manly I'm not good at fucking words did you just see that then I tried but that's a good one that
