1:22Nicky Butt:I think they could, yeah.

1:23Paddy McGuinness:If City had the team they had three years ago, I'd put everything they had on them to win the league now, even with six points behind.

1:29Paul Scholes:I want you to rank these football achievements in order of difficulty. Conceding 15 goals in a season, getting yourself 100 points in a season, four titles in a row, or winning the treble.

1:46Paul Scholes:Welcome to the good, the bad and the football. Do not adjust your sets if you're watching this on YouTube, I've had a spray tan.

1:58Paul Scholes:But before you start going to town in the comments, I know I look a twat, but it's for a job. In fact, I think I'm getting a bit off these lads, but look at my thumbs are orange. I can't get the image out of my head where you're just... Paper.

2:14Nicky Butt:With a thong on.

2:16Paul Scholes:Well, even that, lads. Bollico? Was your bollico? Well, you know, I realise when you say, don't ask silly questions, have you two ever had a spray tan?

2:26Paddy McGuinness:No.

2:27Paul Scholes:Right. So I thought it was what you just said then, the old underpants and art. So this lady came to me house and she sets a tent up. I said, stick it in, Jim. All right. So it's out at road of everyone. So she says, so I'm going, Luke, I'm doing this shoot. I said, but I'm a bit worried about these tan lines. so she says I'll just do you naked so I'm like I'm not sure about that and it's a bit chilly in the gym as well and she went honestly I've seen it all before I thought you've not seen this

3:05Paul Scholes:so she goes so she says well I've got these papered like knickers should I give them to women but you can put them on and honestly it would say much for you that bad

3:16Nicky Butt:you've had a little play first

3:18Paul Scholes:well this is so I'm looking I thought everything's going to fall out of this knackers either side so she said you can put a sock on you can see it on your hand oh no it's fucking horrendous isn't it this bit looks alright this bit looks alright all this alright put a sock on put a sock on put a sock on it a trainer sock was it so I was like right so I went upstairs and again I'm looking for like a nice decent bit of consistency I didn't want to put like a sock you wear on with a pair of pants and shoes. Look for a small sock. I didn't want to put an ankle sock. So I'm stood with this sock on in the fucking tent.

3:56Paul Scholes:She's spraying me. But the most demeaning thing about it, because the little fella and the knackers and everything, it's all covered up with a sock, even though it's a bit demeaning. But when you're stood there and all your pubes are out, it's not a good look. And she's, bless her, she's talking to me like not. so she made me feel relaxed but I didn't know so I turned around with my back to her now you're fully exposed now you're fully naked from the back and she's spraying me she went bend over I've got to say I've been in some demeaning situations in my life I've been in some demeaning situations in my life but when you're like this oh no in a spray tan booth she said I have to get right in your arse so I'm bent because

4:52Nicky Butt:this isn't going to be on men's health is it

4:54Paul Scholes:I know but what she was saying if I don't spray you properly you're going to have all white bits under your arse crack all your arse and she said if anything you run the pants I think she fancied you that wasn't a fancying thing trust me and I'm telling you that's me mum quickly

5:12Nicky Butt:we're going to lose the audience

5:13Paul Scholes:and it were cold as well when it goes up your rigour but anyhow so yeah so apologies but anyhow let's get back on track firstly how's your week been alright brilliant

5:24Nicky Butt:alright South have got beat South have got beat first didn't they yeah although the team's won as well so pressure's on always a treat innit

5:32Paul Scholes:but right I'd like to go to a South game one day will you just for the crack now start off with Liverpool City this I've got to say as a neutral is one of the games I look forward to now Man City versus Liverpool always throws some up for me it's a belting game to watch title race is back on firstly what are your thoughts on the game itself before we get into any of the issues

5:59Nicky Butt:I thought it was a great game to watch I enjoyed it from Dominic it kicked off and do you know we've actually said it I don't think it's been a great year for Premier League football but I thought that was really top class game brilliant game but you're neutral you're watching a game like that brilliant but sitting in the first half were brilliant going to Anfield and playing the way they did it's not easy that is one of the hardest things to do and I thought they were brilliant they needed to win the game really in that spell and didn't manage to do it I think

6:25Paddy McGuinness:what impressed me about City was how they because we all say don't we and it's right it's not a team that used to be it's not the De Bruyne or that kind of team it's phenomenal but to go 1-0 down at Anfield and there's only a few minutes left and to go and take the ball by Rion and then go and win in that style it's fair play to him it's a brilliant result for him and it keeps the Championship alive doesn't it the Premiership alive

6:51Nicky Butt:we needed it just for the Premier League

6:52Paddy McGuinness:we needed to win that game

6:54Nicky Butt:did he lose that game yesterday? I know

6:56Paddy McGuinness:and it's not worse than it being over in like February as well everyone just goes I don't know

7:00Paul Scholes:well I know the Arsenal fans won't like it but I was willing them on to win that just so because I thought let's I love the Premier League I love it I still think it's the best league out there but I'm going for the title race you want it like this Manchester lads you know you'd

7:16Paddy McGuinness:always go against it because they'll be the same with us but just to see that you know you've got you've got to be a really sick person to not appreciate what they did yesterday at Anfield because we played there many times it's a tough place it's the hardest place to play yeah and to go there and do what they did fair play to them and yeah it's a great result for them and when you see like you know the after the game with the fans and Pep and everything you can tell how big it was for them because 10 minutes earlier Pep's on his chair like flopped back and it's all over next minute they win fair play

7:43Paul Scholes:do you think how they were sitting and that sort of getting that goal I think it was 84th minute they came back did you get a sense like when I was watching I couldn't do you think the Liverpool fans were a little bit quiet are they getting a bit sick of slop now I think they have been

8:01Nicky Butt:a little bit quiet in general because like you said going to Anfield I mean it's like an absolute cold in there, isn't it? I think it's different now. Slott plays a different type of football, doesn't he? It's not, he keeps possession a little bit or tries to be a bit more relaxed than Klopp was, but the energy of the Liverpool fans, they react to people like Klopp and their type of football, don't they? It's a little bit different now. It doesn't seem as hard to go there, does it? You've seen the results they've had this year. They haven't been great.

8:30Paul Scholes:It's, just getting on to Liverpool first before we're getting to City and some of the decisions that Sir Boz live free kick and he did it against Arsenal as well which is great because he's doing it against like the two teams who were vying for the title

8:43Paddy McGuinness:great free kick the only thing I would say and me being a non-goalkeeper talking about Dom Aruma sounds crazy fantastic unbelievable goalkeeper but for me you're either having he's this far out you have no wall did you say that or four two in the wall two in so for me it's like it's no man's land and again I'm not an expert and I'm sure people will come online and say what do you know and I'd agree with them I don't but for my layman's term as a goal watching goalkeepers over the years have four in the wall or have none I understand why I'd have none because you're thinking if you had in training session against Donnarumma

9:16Nicky Butt:30 yards out you could take 50 shots

9:18Paddy McGuinness:you wouldn't score one so why have anybody there at all or you go for the full block because where it went through you're sitting a third or fourth man all day long

9:26Paul Scholes:I wonder if it's just a thing where because like you say it were only two I wonder if it's just almost like just make yourself a bit of a distraction up there

9:35Paddy McGuinness:I think it's just I think it's no man's land I think he's got to say I'm good enough for you to shoot against me from 35 yards where he ain't scoring so I've none or you know I've seen what he did against Arsenal and whoever else he scored against so put four there it's like no man's land

9:52Nicky Butt:I think you're right two what's the point two aren't really going to stop it did you notice they had two though they had two which does block the keeper a little bit I suppose but you can see from the angle from the goalkeeper's angle it didn't it looked like he could still see it now look he hits the ball like nobody I've seen I suppose it's unbelievable I was just

10:09Paul Scholes:going to say have you ever just for the crack when you've been out playing in the nets like when you've been in a game have you ever had a go in the nets I used to do it all the time yeah no it's good as he used to do it in a five-side net but it is funny because obviously have you had a go shut up he's far out but it's amazing like when you watch that on the telly and it goes in it's like Like, absolute worldy of a free kick. But when you're in the nets, at that distance, that ball, there's just literally nothing you can do about it. And I don't care if he's got two men, no men, four men.

10:49Paddy McGuinness:I'm telling you now, if he has a clear view of that, he saves it. No. All day long, a clear view. I thought he had a clear view of that. No. I don't think so. Well, the two that were there, the two... Yeah, but I thought he could see around. They've moved. They've moved at the last second. So, you know. But if he's got a clear view of that, he's saving it. I think it's impossible to get there that quick. He's that good him. He's phenomenal. He saves that. I mean, the one he saved in the 99th minute,

11:11Paul Scholes:that was unbelievable save.

11:14Paddy McGuinness:The best goalkeepers over the history of football, the Seamans, the Schmeichels, the Donnarumma, all of them, Edison, all these great goalkeepers, when you hit a ball from 35 yards and they've got a clear view, you're not saving it. The one thing I thought about this then,

11:30Nicky Butt:before I saw the replay, I thought it was one of them wobblers. it just cut across it because sometimes you can hit it straight on and you can put a bit of swaz on it and it will go to that side but it was always going that way so I'm surprised because he knew where it was going maybe he thought it was going wild I don't know I just said though the value of that goalkeeper we said it earlier I think it was he fought him in in quid we said that could be signing of the season he's got the three points if they go on

11:55Paddy McGuinness:when the league's sitting it's a big if if they do that saves possibly one hit for him it weren't just all the corners he's got the swazes but he's fucking

12:02Paul Scholes:But just going back to what you were saying about a free kick, this is just why I've got you here because it does interest me, this. You talk to the wrong people about free kicks. No, no, but what I'm getting at is he's done that save during play, if you like. If it's a dead ball from a free kick and you're, as a keeper, you're set on your line, if it goes in them top corners, they're at that kind of pace, I can't think, and there'll be plenty of people prove me wrong but of a keeper from that position and a free kick getting there to save that I'm not agreeing with you Paddy go on then I'm telling you now

12:42Paddy McGuinness:if you've got a view of it the best keepers remember when we I know when we was playing but Michael used to have free kick sessions sorry shooting sessions and he'd say everyone out of the way and you wouldn't score you wouldn't score past him the only way you score past him is if you miss hit it and you can't see it coming I wish Shea was on So keepers, if you hit a true strike, nine times out of ten, and they see it, they save it. It's from a dead ball in the top corner. No, but dead ball's different because there's people in the way of it and you haven't got a clear view. That's what I'm getting at.

13:12Paddy McGuinness:The thing with me is, if he has a clear view of that yesterday, I believe he gets that. It's a great strike and it's an unbelievable strike, but a goalkeeper at that level, he gets that if you've got a clear view. The problem you've got is when he doesn't have a clear view, so that's what I'm getting at with the wall. If he'd have had nobody in the wall, they could have had two attacking players studying it where you can try and stop him seeing it which they did but then they had four in a row so they've got the two that stand there static the defensive wall they've got the two attackers that are there to mess the eyesight up they move last minute and that's where the gap is

13:44Nicky Butt:do you think you meant that?

13:45Paddy McGuinness:the cut yeah 100 % the kick like that? yeah I do he's cut across it that's his angle of his run I mean the only person I've seen do that was Roberto Carlos when he cut across it I'm thinking

13:56Nicky Butt:when you go that way yeah you normally go the other side don't you yeah he's whipping it you think he's whipping it don't you no not whipping it but going out to the other corner so he's sent it I always think it's unusual when you see him start on the keeper and go to that side I think he knew what he was doing I thought he was trying

14:12Paddy McGuinness:with the wobblers maybe never know about it it's like he scored some unbelievable goals I was just going to say during a game and he said it himself so I'm not I'm not contradicting people go I can't say that but one of his most famous goals against Barcelona you did the same thing you cut across it like a bit I wouldn't say a missed kick well you can I wouldn't say that but that's what I'm saying

14:32Nicky Butt:when you hit it true you're going for the other corner really do you know what most of the time when you're shooting 25 yards you're not aiming for a top corner you're just shooting

14:42Paul Scholes:you're just kicking the ball at the keeper this is for me where sometimes when I listen to you two talk and I have to pinch myself and I think again it's what you did for a living you two but just what you said then you went when he scored that free kick against Barcelona yeah it worked for a good but well that's what you said didn't you no but we scored a goal against Barcelona and you just go oh fucking hell you carried on talking then I were off in my own mind I went imagine scoring a goal against Barcelona which goal against Barcelona

15:14Nicky Butt:that's good if you

15:14Paul Scholes:oh but this is what I mean it's just lovely so anyhow let's get back on the game but I just think it's nice to there's some controversial moments that's brilliant

15:23Nicky Butt:controversial moments yesterday in that game but in that

15:25Paddy McGuinness:I don't know what football is about in football. It's lovely. It's great. Now it works to sit in there and go, 1-0 game. That was a really good game.

15:31Nicky Butt:What do you just think of the, I watched them again this morning, the gay on the cellar. Do you know what gets me?

15:39Paul Scholes:Do you think that's a goal scoring opportunity?

15:42Paddy McGuinness:So you go about, and we'll get onto it in a minute about the VAR, obviously. But you're talking about the letter of law. Now, I feel sorry for referees because they have to be, there's no common sense in football. So we can all say it never, we're saying it's their own commentary. Common sense. there's no common sense they have to abide by the law then they've got to go and sit in front of their bosses and go why do you do that well I did the law fine well done if he gives that goal last night example yesterday sorry the third one the third one if he gives that he's sitting in front of his peers and his bosses and he's going to get deducted points if they get a point system because he's not even though everyone knows common sense they fouled him he fouled them let the goal he doesn't get sent off everyone's happy

16:21Paul Scholes:right so can I just ask you a question with that in mind because I'm watching that and again, this is just as a fan so you'll be able to explain it properly. The ball goes through. Harland and Sir Bozly are having a tug at each other. Sounds wrong. So,

16:40Paul Scholes:Sir Bozly's pulled Harland first. Sorry, Harland's pulled Sir Bozly first. He's giving him back. This is going on while the goal's going in. Harland's had the last go on Sir Bozly the ball's gone in why firstly why is it a red card if Haaland started it then Haaland didn't start it but why would you give why would you not just give the goal instead of a free kick

17:09Paddy McGuinness:I'm sticking up for referees here and people will be saying oh no common sense but I'll start again there's no common sense in football so a letter of law is the factual thing here and that's why I've got to be here so Bosley pulled him back first outside the box right yeah the ball continues Harlan then fouls him allowing the ball to go in the goal now if you're if you're example Aston Villa right and you don't get in the Champions League for a not from points on goal level and you miss out on Champions League by one goal and that's the goal you're losing 150 million as a club so they have to abide by the letter of the law which was he's the foul outside the box of the first instinct so they pull it back the foul outside the box is the free kick and he's stopping a goal opportunity.

17:53Paddy McGuinness:I don't think it would have cut it off. No, I don't think it would have done. But as a referee, he's got a goal out of the Lord. There's no confidence.

18:00Paul Scholes:But why is he not blown up on that first pole? That's what he did.

18:04Nicky Butt:That's exactly what happened. He played advantage, so the goal goes in, but just because the lads fouled him, you can't ignore it because you played advantage because it's still a foul, do you know what I mean? And there's also repercussions for everything, as Nicky said there the Champions League what if next week Liverpool are playing a team fighting for their lives or something and supposedly they play as a player and scores yeah that's true another free kick and you're going well they should have

18:30Paddy McGuinness:been sent off and they're going well we'd have been Champions League because we've now lost the Champions League money the referees got it right as a letter of luck common sense as we all want it's gone out the window so you can't even talk about it as Nicky says

18:42Nicky Butt:well they've been marked in the stands I'll give you a small example of a much lower level don't get me wrong I was at the Tramare game Salford two weeks ago I'm sat next to two assessors referee assessors and they're all mic'd up to the referee so they know exactly what's going on and they're writing things down so they can hear what they can hear what the referee and the fourth official are communicating all the time referees they don't really referee games anymore someone else is always doing it obviously VAR doesn't but in the Premier League level yeah of course it does but the fourth official, he's almost refereeing the game as well.

19:17Nicky Butt:Now look, they probably are there to help, but I don't think they should be giving decisions.

19:21Paddy McGuinness:I'm telling you now, the referee yesterday, when he gave that decision, he'd be cringing that he's got pressure. He'd be cringing, he's a human being. He'd be cringing having to give that. Who's in charge?

19:28Paul Scholes:Is it Howard Webb? Is he in charge of the whole shebang? So, Howard Webb obviously can't be at every game, but he's on duty, I presume, at the weekend. Where will he be while all the games are going on? And who's he is he the person who says you two are doing that game you two are doing that game one week

19:48Paddy McGuinness:I'm going to look at Paul's gold refereeing technique then it's Paddington then it's Nicky but the most important thing is they'll all be there today dissecting all the games that they are refereed so they have to do it I know that referee would have been cringing given that he'd be going I've got to send this lad off he's getting suspended the goal could stand and everyone's happy but letter of lawyers have got to do this and Scorch is right about he's explained it right

20:14Nicky Butt:What do you think about the announcements when they start speaking at him? I know. But you can't speak. After review. I don't like that. Going back to the Salah one,

20:26Paddy McGuinness:which is what we started on, by the letter of the law, you can't say they were going to do a letter of the last one. By letter of the law, Salah would have got a shot off with one touch there. Of course he would. So by letter of the law, he's been stopped by a goal scoring opportunity. So for that, for me, it should have been outside the box free kick and the lad sent off. Yeah, definitely. And what about the penalty? Because I didn't think it was a penalty.

20:47Nicky Butt:What?

20:48Paddy McGuinness:The Alisson one?

20:49Nicky Butt:Yeah.

20:49Paddy McGuinness:Yeah, I did.

20:49Nicky Butt:Of course it was. 100%.

20:51Paddy McGuinness:He absolutely fucking takes him out. I know what you're going to say. The ball had gone. Yeah, he'd already kicked the ball. He comes out.

20:58Nicky Butt:He's not looking at the lad. He's just trying to block the shot. Yeah, but he's pushed the ball past him. Where do you want him to go, though? He's not pushed the ball past him. He's never going to get the ball. The ball's in the fucking stand.

21:09Paddy McGuinness:Yeah, but Scolese, if you're in centre midfield and a lad knocks the ball past you and it goes 40 yards ahead of him. You take him out. Yeah, I think that's different. If you take him out, it's a free kick. If you take him out, it's a free kick.

21:17Nicky Butt:He's trying to save the shot, isn't he? Ah, it's a fuck. I heard Gary say it was 100%. I didn't think it was at the time. I still don't when I'm seeing it. I think it's 100%. Kayak gets my flight, hotel and rental car right so I can tune out travel advice that's just plain wrong.

21:33Paul Scholes:Bro, Skycoin, way better than points.

21:36Paddy McGuinness:Never fly during a Scorpio full moon. Just tell the manager you'll sue.

21:42Nicky Butt:Instant room upgrade. Stop taking bad travel advice. Start comparing hundreds of sites with Kayak and get your trip right. Bad advice? You talking to me? Kayak. Got that right.

21:55Paddy McGuinness:I'm R.J.

21:56Paul Scholes:Decker, a private investigator uncovering the sunshine state's darkest secrets. Tuesdays, it's the premiere of ABC's hottest new crime show. R.J. freaking Decker as I live and breathe. He's a private eye. It's not a standard murder. It's someone bigger. And a public mass. Trying to get sent back to prison today? You go to prison one time and suddenly it's all the jokes. R.J. Decker, series premiere, Tuesdays on ABC and stream on Hulu. LinkedIn is pretty great at a lot of things, like helping you tap into the latest trends and insights in your field. We cannot stop your coworker from tapping her pencil.

22:35Paul Scholes:LinkedIn can help you find new jobs that align with your career goals. We cannot help you find the source of that weird smell in the office fridge. Ew. And while we can't stop your co-workers from bringing their hobbies into the office, LinkedIn can help you bring your career to the next level. LinkedIn is the network that works for you. This is why, I mean, this is why I love football. Things like this, and it's brilliant, isn't it, when you're talking about it. but do you think just what you were saying about referees I we all like having a go at refs it's part and parcel of football and I think if you're being a referee you know what comes with a job but I feel as though now it's probably the most difficult time ever to be a referee because of social media and everything else and everyone I think so yeah because there's that many different camera angles now to pull you up you think being a ref in the 80s you make a decision I think it's easy I think it's easy I don't think they're refereeing games anymore because it's factual

23:34Paddy McGuinness:it's there

23:35Paul Scholes:no I don't sorry I don't mean it's more difficult I think it's yeah you get you get pulled up on your mistakes more now so it's got to be more psychologically you're going to be overthinking everything but it's the same for players as well same for football

23:48Paddy McGuinness:isn't it but it's what it has done it's got us talking and it's got the title race back on line hasn't it I mean look imagine Arsenal yesterday they're the players we've all been there but they'll say they won't watch the game I guarantee you 90 % of them want to watch that game and they're thinking with five, six minutes left, lads, we can't lose this league now.

24:06Nicky Butt:There's nothing worse when you're another team watching the team who's going for it with you. I remember Chelsea a few times thinking, fucking hell, we've got them here. And Frank Lampard going twats one in from 30 yards in the last minute. Didier Drogba did it. It's like a little punch to the stomach, isn't it?

24:20Paddy McGuinness:They are still six points ahead though, aren't they? Yeah, six points. They've got to play

24:25Nicky Butt:City at City.

24:26Paddy McGuinness:If you look at the City side now, they're up and down and up and down. They can beat anybody and they can also get beat off anybody you look at them a few years ago they fancy them in every single game they go into and I think they've got a few players in the team that haven't won the league before so you know it's tough With that in mind

24:42Paul Scholes:do you think this is one of the where you're saying they're a bit up and down looking at some of the players they've got now City and good players but they've got players who've never won the league before Gehi, Semenyo, Cherky, Marmouche, O 'Reilly, Kushinoth, Aitonori Gehi was good yesterday wasn't he? Good player yeah he's a good player although the shirt wasn't but do you think that might cost City that winning mentality look if City

25:10Paddy McGuinness:had the team they had three years ago I'd put everything they had on them to win the league now even with six points behind but you just know in the back of their mind they could go an example Bournemouth next weekend they could get beat I do think Arsenal now will be panicking after that result and they've also got to go and play against City haven't they but But I just don't... If I was a Man City fan, I'd be a bag of nerves every time I watch them now. But three years ago, it's like, we'll go to the game, we'll get a pie, we'll have a coffee and they're going to win and we're going to go home.

25:42Paddy McGuinness:They were in a team a few years ago

25:43Nicky Butt:where they could just put 25 wins together. Like it's nothing. I'm not saying it's the same now, but Arsenal, they haven't been in their position. We're talking about City with six or seven players who haven't won a league. They've still got a lot of players who have. They've got a manager who's won everything so they've still got the experience there. once it gets to three points four points with Harlan with that

26:01Paddy McGuinness:you don't think for one minute you're going to miss it do you he went the right way Ellison I was a little bit scared for him because he had played well again and he had a bit of time to wait as well I think it was on TV two and a half three minutes to wait

26:12Nicky Butt:he's had a bit of a dry spell for him and I thought he's got some bollocks he's got some bollocks hey

26:19Paul Scholes:you knew him

26:20Nicky Butt:shut off he's not sat

26:23Paul Scholes:on the floor on that one he's giving it fucking come on

26:26Nicky Butt:it's like Nicky said as well how much time did he have so Boz is in his ear trying to talk to him

26:30Paul Scholes:but you know what when you watch it as well it's one of them penalties where when he takes it you're going it doesn't it looks like Alisson's going to get there but he was right in there he's just hit it too hard he's just hard

26:40Nicky Butt:he's side foot every bang you're not saving them yeah well you are according to him fucking goalkeeper should be saving them all day long

26:47Paul Scholes:all day long yeah that is for a dead body don't have to run over the course do you think just flip-flopping a little bit do you think would you like to see next season VAR done no you want to still see I hate VAR I think there's certain bits

27:04Paddy McGuinness:where it's it's in black and white it's easy like the offside bits it's quite easy to see it but I don't like the arm thing the arm thing doesn't hurt him it's a tall

27:15Nicky Butt:it's getting complicated don't you do you remember the thing Dermot Gallagher and Sky the other week about the line saying it's like they've stretched out to five centimetres or something it really yeah it's fucking madness I think goal line

27:29Paul Scholes:technology is good

27:30Nicky Butt:that is the only thing I'd keep goal line technology

27:33Paddy McGuinness:having said that though if your example let's say you're Bolton right and you own Bolton or you're a manager and you've gone all that season right and you get to the last game of the season you're getting promotion to get back into the Premier League example and you lose a goal but if you would have had VAR you go up it's a massive knock on effect for football clubs it's ridiculous I think it should be re-looked at and discussed and I think they should bring a lot of maybe ex-minders on and ex-footballers on and a panel and help talk about how to make this easier but there's a place for it because every other sport in the world does it so why wouldn't why wouldn't I think it takes excitement every goal

28:09Nicky Butt:that's scored no you can't

28:11Paul Scholes:bloody celebrate imagine if you scored

28:13Nicky Butt:and I scored and there's no better feeling in the world than to have that taken away from you for that I think the obvious ones I'd be pissed off

28:20Paddy McGuinness:I don't know I'm up in the air with me and the reason why I am because I see the bigger picture with it. I see the bigger picture.

28:27Nicky Butt:I think I'd be closer to hers if they took a goal off me. Do what? I'd be closer to hers if someone took a goal off me.

28:32Paul Scholes:But not only that as well, scoring a goal and then having weight and then even if they give it you, you're like, even if they give it you're like, oh, it's fucking your own. Go again.

28:41Paddy McGuinness:I don't like it. Let's get on to United, Paddy.

28:44Paul Scholes:Yeah, I will in a sec. Just a quick shout out to Tom Hiddleston who sent a message about the Tony Bell you want. He loved it. Did he? It's always nice to have an Avenger on side, innit I like that he's great he's a great lad he floated he floated right ok I didn't know how good

29:00Paddy McGuinness:he was at dancing by the way he's seen him dancing on Alan Carr it's unbelievable oh brilliant

29:04Paul Scholes:do you know Tom's one of them he's a talented man he's like I can only go up to quadruple I don't know what six tuple threat like he does about 20 different things what are you talking about you go you go triple threat don't you if you're good at three things then you can be a quadruple threat after quadruple I'm a bit fucked lads is there a six triplets what is there I'm talking to him who said fucking withering nights instead of withering nights before we come on so I don't know why I'm looking over there are you always looking at him because I think he's always talking about quizzes I'm still not talking about a picture of him

29:37Nicky Butt:somewhere else he said five minutes ago that I didn't pick up on as well go on what's fucking hell Stockley Farm who is it what's it called Stockley Park Stockley Park

29:45Paddy McGuinness:fucking Paul Gallagher there do you know what else do you know what I really I love I love Tom but he does make you sound thick doesn't he he's well I mean he's the nicest man he's honestly he is such a lovely guy I mean you can come any time you want

30:02Paul Scholes:again Tom we'll watch you

30:03Paddy McGuinness:being on I'm sure it was

30:04Paul Scholes:and I'm sure Tom went to I'm sure he went

30:07Paddy McGuinness:Cambridge were you at Eton Eton School yeah he went to Eton School bloody hell how posh did you go then I was there I was there for six weeks got suspended what robbing it

30:17Nicky Butt:robbing it

30:18Paul Scholes:I mean the lawns just before we get on to United because I know you're itching let's just have a quick chat about Arna Slott and Liverpool so Liverpool have less points after 25 Premier League games than Man United had under David Moyes just four points more than Roy Hodgson's Liverpool side when Roy was sacked is it is the end in is the end in sight for Arna Slott I understand why Liverpool fans

30:47Paddy McGuinness:are disgruntled with it all I really do but the back of my feels he won the league last year he won the league last year I mean he's a champion now and then you look back if Liverpool rewinds was it five or six years not won a league for I don't know how many years and he's won the league so I get all the noise as to why they want him to go or potentially some of them would want him to go but the back of my mind as a non-Liverpool fan it's like the bloke won the league last year for you you've got to give him a bit of credit in the bank hasn't it you'd think

31:18Nicky Butt:yeah but you don't get credit in the bank there it's mad isn't it you can look five games ago if you lose three or four games in the track you're under pressure of course you might get a club like Liverpool the one thing he's probably got to do now is win the Champions League that might be the only thing that saves his job can you imagine if he did though can you imagine if he did I can't see him doing it that doesn't matter

31:37Paul Scholes:at all does it in modern football I can't see him doing it look at Ange winning I know it weren't the Champions League but you can still win some of it and still lose your job in this game the big trouble he's got

31:46Nicky Butt:is we've said it before aren't we is the land's all just waiting in the background you know what I mean that's

31:51Paul Scholes:and what you've said it before on this where you go them deals are sometimes already done yeah would you know if you were a manager that that deal's been done would you would you hear about agents talk you hear about

32:04Nicky Butt:you hear about there's no secrets everybody knows everything someone talks to an agent who's the same agent as a player that you've got everyone knows everyone

32:13Paul Scholes:Liverpool fans you know we know passionate they are if you took every Liverpool fan knowing this and you said vault whether you want to keep Arna Slott or replace him next season what do you think the percentage is I reckon it's still about 80 % would want to keep him want to keep him do you think so

32:33Nicky Butt:I think so at this point for what you said for winning the league I think they would at this point I still think they give a benefit of the doubt

32:42Paul Scholes:and I think there's a lot to be said it's a non-football thing this but when I see Arnie Slott and how he operates and how he talks I just think he's a lovely fella do you know what I mean I know it's not a football thing I might be coming but it doesn't matter does it no I know I know right let's perk up Liverpool let's perk up City let's get on to another win for Manchester United

33:07Paddy McGuinness:2-0 brilliant it's like to go on a run like they've done I mean the longer it goes on this the more people are going to talk about market getting the job and rightly so whether you think he's good enough or he's experienced enough or he should have a bigger name or we've all got our own comments on it but what he's done is brought that team together and you look at them now and you think they can go and beat you whoever they want to beat you at the minute the fans are up for it the players are up for it the managers everyone likes him it's just total total temptation everything's going everything's working it's like it's amazing

33:40Nicky Butt:everything's going right for him isn't it you think the lad getting sent off on Saturday again

33:43Paddy McGuinness:yeah we said that didn't we

33:45Paul Scholes:yeah but I think I know what you two and other if we talk about ex-United players comments about Michael Carrick and doing a good job but they want a different manager to run United sorry Paddy

33:59Paddy McGuinness:that's only because history tells you that they jump into emotional reaction and emotional decisions as a club which they do yeah so sticking up for a few people and ourselves when you say that it's not any slant on Michael it's not any slant on what he's doing it's looking at the bigger picture Man United the managing choice has been not good over the last 10 years and now people who are fans and I've got a massive love for the football club don't want another mistake so that's why they're saying that now if Mild keeps doing what he's doing now and it gets to 8 games and 9 games then I think the choice is taken out of the board's hands he's got to have it

34:37Nicky Butt:we love Mike Michael's the nicest person you'll meet so whatever we say no it doesn't really affect our relationship we know what a good a good man he is now I think Nicky's right if you have to decide what the point is where he gets a job and I think I read something today about Gary Neville saying if if he puts himself forward he's got to go against them people like your Tuchel's your Enrique's now he's got to put his hat in the ring the one thing that happens the way it's looking they're going to get Champions League football and if they don't give it in and they bring a Tuchel in they can't win you get to October, November and it's not going great, people are going to be asking for him again.

35:18Nicky Butt:They can't win

35:19Paddy McGuinness:because like Scores said, they give it to him and he doesn't do great. It's stupid. They give it to somebody else and they don't do great. You should have kept Michael. They've got an honourable choice and that's, remember when it first happened and we said on here, interim managers are really tricky. It's tricky. What they should have done was gone, right, give Michael an 18-month contract. He is the manager so that he can go in and be the manager. How could you do that though? It's risky. Well, he's getting six months anyway. And then sack him again though and if it doesn't go well. Give him six months.

35:46Paddy McGuinness:Let's see how a six-month goes. Then he's got another 12-month. And if he does really well, just add another two years onto it, make it a three-year deal at the end of the season. Man United got more money than cents. To sack a manager and give him a 12-month contract, it ain't going to kill him. But what that would do with Michael and make him feel wanted, make him go, you're the manager of this football club, make decisions now for the next 18 months. The next signings that are coming are on you and the sporting director. And I'm not saying that's the right thing to do. It's just a way around.

36:11Paddy McGuinness:now they're in a really bad position now they're in a really bad position now because he's doing so well and you'd imagine I can't remember the next few games they're coming up now Man United West Ham tomorrow West Ham tomorrow if they get to like five, six wins they're thinking if we don't let's go if we don't give it in and the next person comes in and doesn't do well now they're going to get the spotlight on them they're not doing their job right that's a bonkers football

36:36Paul Scholes:is where you're saying they're in a bad position and they're winning but I know what you mean though I know what you mean fans are going to demand it as well

36:41Paddy McGuinness:the fans will demand they'll demand if you win a game what's the problem another thing as well because

36:48Nicky Butt:it sounds weird this but there isn't much pressure on him because what happened to the previous manager

36:55Paul Scholes:do you know what I mean I think the more he wins the more pressure he will want to carry on winning the pressure will come

36:59Nicky Butt:if he gets the job permanent then you think oh shit and the thing is this is real now

37:03Paddy McGuinness:the thing is Paddy is the people at the top like Jason and Omar sorry them two they've got the hardest it's easy for us we're sat here now talking and we've had a bit of through and fro in Man United it's not what we want but it is suffering because us as podcasters or the media we can we can comment on anything so Michael does well doesn't get a job Tuchel comes in and he does crap we're going on air next season should have kept Michael should have kept Michael it's a disgrace Michael doesn't do well gets a job doesn't do well we're sat here going not experienced enough he's not got the backroom staff, he's not got this, he's not got that.

37:41Paddy McGuinness:Should have brought an experience one. They're, now at the top, they have to get this decision right. They can't get it wrong. Can you imagine it? They've had Ten Hag, they've renewed his contract, looks like it was wrong. They got Ammering, wrong. They get the next one wrong, the spotlight from the owners will be on them, so they've got a really tough... It's a tough one for them.

38:01Nicky Butt:Yeah, we won't really know how good Michael is at this job until it gets to November, December. We just don't know. Now, one thing that has to happen which I think Barada and Jason Wilcox will have to do and whoever else is involved they're going to have to get the three or four best men for the job including Michael and take it from there

38:22Paul Scholes:Can I just ask you then ex-United players United fans with Michael Carrick in mind if you look at the season now where you said things have clicked into place when he took over AFCON finished he got his players back everyone's back from injury Casemiro who for a footballer is getting to end of his career but he's had a brilliant series how good has he been the last season brilliant season but if you look at someone like Michael Kirk and I think this is what you two and likes of Gary Neville and what have you are probably talking about it's looking like at the end of the season nothing's guaranteed but Casemiro's going and he's been one of their players of the season possibility Bruno could go you never know you never know

39:12Paul Scholes:there's another there's another player at United who I I don't know but what I'm saying is let's just tell them two players their goal who are your players who are getting you the results and Bruno's you know what a captain he's been that's where I think as a manager with loads of experience comes in because you're not going to have much choice seen your players coming in because that's done upstairs it seems in modern football. So I don't think, or will Michael Carrick say to the board, Luke if I'm staying on this job I want this player and this player or will they go that's who you're getting?

39:48Paul Scholes:It'll be part of the discussion. It won't be up to him. Do you know what I mean? If he loses a few of these key players at the end of the season.

39:54Paddy McGuinness:I think the big thing is and Scorsi mentioned it when Michael took over is, and I'm not saying it's easy because what he's doing is phenomenal but it's a lot easier when you're the good guy. So right now Michael, everyone loves Michael. and everyone will do he's a great guy he's got his arm around the players he's friends with him he's come on with this I really like you I don't care and he will say that because I would I don't care what he thought of you example Kobe don't care what Amarin thought of you I think you're great and you're going to play he's going to run through a brick wall for Michael right now and he is doing it so will Casemiro so will every single player but if he's the manager and he's in discussions now and like Skog said a minute ago about managers leaving if he's the manager and his discussion is going around players and they're talking to two, in the background, two midfielders that are going to replace the ones that are playing.

40:42Paddy McGuinness:You watch the attitude change. So right now, everything's perfect. And it will be for the next God knows how long because everyone's happy. It's when the manager comes in and starts looking at players to replace the ones that he's got. Because it's quite obvious, forget the last four games. Before that, the quality is not there to go and challenge for Premier League just by results unlike the games that we've played. So when the manager that comes in with the supporting director and they go and target players that are going to replace a Paul Scoles or a Nicky Butt, you can hear that in the background.

41:11Paddy McGuinness:I don't care what anyone says, you hear that. And then if you're all of a sudden not got your arm round, you're not brilliant and I don't think you are great because I'm replacing you with this player or that player, that dynamic changes and that's the tricky one and that's when it gets real. That's what I'm trying to say.

41:24Nicky Butt:It's not easy, but it's easier because as Nicky said, he's come in while a lot of the players are loads of snakes, belly really, they're all, they're in a bad place and for Michael just to come in and put your arm round him, that's all you need probably at this point when Michael might get a bit of leeway with players coming in he's got to do well and the biggest thing with that

41:44Paddy McGuinness:the biggest example with that is Kobe I was just going to say you two have been saying it

41:48Paul Scholes:for ages when Amorim were in charge about playing Kobe and Luke if you've been proven right and Andy can play with Bruno

41:56Nicky Butt:the club should never let Kobe get to this situation they shouldn't what is it with Amorim with the Kobe thing

42:03Paddy McGuinness:is it a personal thing I don't think of a person just didn't have him

42:07Nicky Butt:he likes legs in there he played Casemiro a lot you won't say Casemiro sometimes you've got to have a brain as a footballer as well and what Kobe lacks as an athlete he's just so clever he makes a team him and Bruno Fernandes make your team play football now people can say he was young but I'm sure two years ago he was playing in the European Euros final he was scoring the winning goal against Man City if Ruben Amarin was still there there's a very good chance that he would not be a Man United player now he'd have probably gone in January and looking at oh that's so strange

42:44Paddy McGuinness:Amarin's big thing was Bruno and Kobe can't play in the same team oh what a piss take they can't play in the same team no I know that's what I said that's what I'm saying they're playing together it's ridiculous isn't it how could you get it how could you get it so wrong that's what I'm saying as a manager he was obviously a very good let's be honest he was rubbish at United but he'd been there seen it and done it in other places so as a manager he got that massively wrong we could see that

43:07Nicky Butt:some of the comments we said about saying look I don't think he's the right man for the club the amount of stick we get for it do you know what I mean it's unbelievable now you watch what's happening in the next four games all of a sudden everyone changes tune people on radio yeah I don't think Cameron was right the way he treated Cobby but at the time they won't yeah Cobby got treated

43:24Paddy McGuinness:wrongly because and I'm not privy to what got in the background now if Cobby was misbehaving and being late for training and not applying He doesn't seem that type of player to me. But if that would have been the case, you'd have heard it and you'd have not heard anything like that. So, Kobe now has just come into a team. He's started doing exactly what he was doing. We're playing in the same team as Bruno. And Bruno's playing at... Well,

43:45Nicky Butt:what you have to say about Kobe, he's handled himself brilliantly. Yeah, He's never come out and he's kicked up a bit of a fuss. Yeah, you can't control your brothers. You can't control them, can you? But, there's so many players who come out and kick off saying, why am I not playing? He's not playing. I can't imagine him knocking on the door saying...

44:01Paddy McGuinness:No, but you look at the three midfield we were ex midfielders and we've had a bit of a say about it over the you know the last six months let's say all three of them are flying yeah so they obviously like playing together you've got casemiro's on fire at his age and i'd still stand by the fact that he has his legs have started to go with it happens to every single player the best players in the world he's been unbelievable for the last three or four weeks

44:24Nicky Butt:but casemiro was 21 22 wasn't a great athlete anyway but no yeah then you've got copy playing

44:30Paddy McGuinness:next to him so they obviously both like playing together and you've got Bruno ahead of him now I don't understand how someone can get that so wrong a few only what four sorry six weeks ago

44:40Paul Scholes:but I was going to ask you about that so when you're playing in a team and these decisions like the Bruno Cobby thing with Ameren and you're all in the squad just purely because Bruno's Portuguese and Ameren's Portuguese when that decision were being made because you have that sort of same country so you you know what you're talking about together and you can say things to each other that you probably couldn't with a player from a different country surely Bruno at that time would have been saying to Amren I can like why are we not playing do you not think do you not do that no as a player why if you think it's better for the team you must go in and have a meeting

45:23Nicky Butt:with the manager and go Luke I play better with him no no it's something I'd never maybe that's because of who our manager was I don't know but you'd never go and suggest but the one thing I will say about

45:34Paddy McGuinness:Amarin is he was never right for the job in the first place just looking at the way he plays football he was never right for the club in the first place so again he's now wherever he is thinking well I got sacked but what happened was I got sacked on my own terms I didn't get sacked on somebody else's terms so I stuck to my guns whether we think that's right or not as a fan as a manager he's done that and he's on to the next job

45:57Nicky Butt:the only thing Michael's done is just put square pegs in square holes, whereas Amarin had square pegs in round holes. Some of the strangest, Dallot left back, left wing back at times. Yeah. It was madness.

46:12Paddy McGuinness:LifeLock, how can I help?

46:13Nicky Butt:The IRS said I filed my return, but I haven't.

47:42Paul Scholes:Do you think Bruno is a player now? How old is he, Bruno? He's not young, but he's not old. Do you think at the end of the season, United, give him another two-year? or if he's I think it

47:56Paddy McGuinness:I think it depends what manager comes in if Michael stays all the way the next manager comes in will have a big effect on if Bruno stays or not it has to be

48:04Nicky Butt:I worry about the Saudi thing with him because I don't think that was far away last year and I wouldn't be surprised if something like that came up last year he would have been

48:11Paddy McGuinness:feeling really down right now where he is now if this continues the upness the crowd because Bruno would never really have experienced that crowd it's been the last three or four games

48:20Nicky Butt:look we can't answer for Bruno can we but I think the lure of that money might take him away to

48:26Paddy McGuinness:I agree because of the way it's been but he would never have experienced what he's experienced in that stadium the last three or four, what is it, two or three games in that stadium now had won away, didn't we?

48:37Nicky Butt:Do you think they can challenge for the league next season? The way the goal is, it's easy to say

48:44Paddy McGuinness:If they have to keep Bruno and bring in a couple of players If they get the right players in I think they could, yeah but that's more a reflection on the other teams that are around. There's not two amazing teams find out there and Man United are underneath them. And as well,

48:59Paul Scholes:if Pep goes at the end of the season and United bring in a couple of decent players, because the psychology of having your neighbours managed by Pep with all them players, and they're obviously City are going to bring in another top manager.

49:12Nicky Butt:The thing is, you've got to do it over a season. I was going to say that, but I said... Because you look at the last few weeks, they beat the two teams who go for the league. Yeah. But can you do it consistently?

49:21Paddy McGuinness:I said a few... a few well I've been saying consistently I think we're five or six years off we're in the league because it's a plan you've got to go through but then he just asked me can they win it and I go yeah sound like an absolute dick I'm not sure we are five or six years I just think that the other teams aren't running away with it we spoke on length about Liverpool and City today and we always speak about Arsenal there's no team there that you're going to go they're going to dominate like Man United dominated City dominated Liverpool look unbelievable and they won the league and you're thinking they're going to dominate this for 10 years there's no team like that at the minute

49:55Paul Scholes:but do you not think if Arsenal win the league this year and they get over that sort of oh we've finally done it do you not think their squad and team could go on and do that they don't get that mentality they've got a

50:07Paddy McGuinness:great squad and they've got good players but they don't put the fear into other teams like City did or like a Chelsea did or an Arsenal back in the day or a Man United back in the day why do they not do that then you don't see

50:19Nicky Butt:mind-blowing performances from the when you you know when a team's special perhaps City team the last four years before Liverpool won it last year you think God how do we beat that team I'm not looking at Arsenal thinking they're miles ahead of everyone and they're going to win the league for the next ten years I just I just can't not maybe not ten years but the next four I just don't see that dominance and you know something

50:42Paddy McGuinness:a real honest Arsenal fan will come and sit here with us now and I say to him and a bit like when we were talking about City last week you go as a City player sorry a couple of minutes ago you go as a City fan you get your pie you cough and you think we're going to win when they had their team them fans would have gone to that stadium and gone we're going to win this game I still don't think they think that all the time

51:02Nicky Butt:it's so unpredictable football isn't it because you look at Liverpool win that league last year with the team you think fucking hell they look good and then they bring Isak they bring Eke they bring Verz and you think fucking hell probably sat here this time last year saying Liverpool can win the league for the next four or five years they're going to be dominant look what's happened this year you just I think what you just said is a good question though Paddy

51:24Paddy McGuinness:because it always changes doesn't it and over the probably if you'd asked this question would you think they'd far off win the league if you asked the question eight weeks ago I said no now it's looking like we're going to Champions League that means your target audience in players is a lot bigger so you get better players you get more experienced players you get more quality because they want to play in Champions League and they want to play for Man United nine weeks ago you're thinking we're not getting Champions League so your target audience comes right down then so basically if they keep doing what they're doing and they get in Champions League and they get the recruitment right, I think they'll have a chance, yeah.

51:54Nicky Butt:I just hope they win tomorrow night so that lad can get his hair cut. Oh, yeah.

51:58Paul Scholes:If Frank's watching and he's growing his hair and they win United, Frank, come on the podcast, scores it, or shave your head, I'll take the hair and glue it on mine. It's a win-win. I'll save a bit for you as well. Too late for me, mate.

52:23Paul Scholes:Just randomly, just parking United up there, just with Spurs, obviously the wheels have come off at Spurs massively, but this Romero sending off, if you're in that team, and especially because he's been coming out and he's been saying about... Do you know what? I love him. No, I know, but... I love watching him. Yeah, but if he's in your team and he's come out and gone, we've not got enough players and then he's done that. yeah

52:50Nicky Butt:he's pissed off with Spurs and he doesn't want to be there he's having to go to the crowd having to go to the board I think his head's checked out of Spurs a little bit I'd love him people might say look he's kicked the ball and you can't stop your follow through look we've all been in that position we know you can just have a little follow through and hurt someone and it always looks worse

53:11Paddy McGuinness:at slow motion but I just love the character of him I feel sorry for Thomas Frank me because I thought they performed with 10 men what he's done for that manager

53:19Nicky Butt:is disgrace they were brilliant

53:21Paddy McGuinness:with 10 men and you're thinking a little bit of luck here and there they might have got a draw but as soon as you go if you go to 10 men if you're Thomas Frank

53:29Nicky Butt:what are you saying to Romero after that game I think he handles himself really well Thomas Frank and what he says to the press won't be what happens behind closed doors he's having a right going he's having a right going but if you look at

53:42Paddy McGuinness:the 10 men against Man United how well he did with 11 men they were right in the game but Everton went against beaters with 10 men it's like it's weird how it happens with 10 men you know you could go against 10 men you're in a different place but they did well Tottenham fought

53:58Nicky Butt:they fought for them Tottenham aren't bad they're having a looks like they're having a bad season I mean the injuries they've got 11 injuries

54:06Paddy McGuinness:11 injuries they had yesterday sorry

54:09Nicky Butt:they have missed the most creative players you think Maddison's creative Kulisevsky he's been a big blow for them as well but they're still alright aren't they strange enough because we're in the league 15-16 it's crazy how many more games do you think Frank's got? I think there could be one bad defeat from him going so I thought City I said this last week I think if City would have beaten 4-5 now at their ground so I think they're in that position though

54:38Paddy McGuinness:with Thomas Frank and Tottenham Tottenham aren't going to get relegated so what's the point in sacking him? they're not going to get in Champions League they're not going to get in Europe just see it's end of the season I'll tell you if he's clever

54:46Nicky Butt:still in Champions League by the way

54:47Paddy McGuinness:yeah I know but they're not going to win it I don't think but what I'm saying is why sack him now I'd leave him to end the season if I was Tottenham I would leave him to end the season and I'd keep my eye on what Michael Carrick's doing I would because Michael is the next top Spurs yeah what over

55:03Paul Scholes:Robbie Keane

55:03Paddy McGuinness:yeah yeah

55:07Paul Scholes:if I were choosing Robbie Keane and Michael I'd be picking Robbie Keane for Spurs personally I think they're both by the way if Robbie gets it

55:15Paddy McGuinness:great he's done his apprenticeship he's done brilliant he's gone all over the show and fair play to him good luck to him but he's more

55:22Paul Scholes:around the world yeah that's what I'm saying but if you look at Michael

55:26Paddy McGuinness:he's managed in Premier League now and obviously he's got another what is it 15, 16 games left and obviously he's got oh yeah 15, 16 games sorry so you look at and he does well and everyone's going give it Michael and he doesn't get it why wouldn't Tottenham look at him he's an ex-Tottenham player he knows that club and Michael's a calm he's cool, calm customary he knows his stuff he knows his football it's a nice little shot window for Michael

55:48Nicky Butt:really if he doesn't get the big one it's a nice little shot window I've never

55:53Paul Scholes:I mean

55:55Nicky Butt:it fits yeah it fits I'd worry him about that Tottenham job wouldn't you for him but if yeah

56:02Paddy McGuinness:but that Tottenham job seems to ruin well not ruin managers but it just like if you're a if you love football and you really want if you love football scores and you really want to be a manager the stadium's amazing the training ground's amazing you can go and attract good players you're in London it's a great place to go and get and someone will get that right I don't know when but someone will get that right I mean to get it right it's a great place to be and play and train every single day

56:26Paul Scholes:do you know even me as a football fan like when I see what's going on at Spurs at the minute you know I watch them and I'm willing and want to do well I want Spurs to do well I like them as a club and like you just say about the new stadium everything that's going on around it I think the biggest thing

56:43Nicky Butt:about Tom is the relationship between the fans and the board and the owners and stuff it's just toxic at the minute can you see it's not many clubs

56:50Paul Scholes:yeah but you say that no that was the big thing when Daniel Levy

56:54Paddy McGuinness:were in charge he's gone nothing's improving so but I'll go back to what we said a minute ago any football club in the country with 11 of your main men out injured you're dead

57:05Paul Scholes:this is a little bit different from what's just happened at the weekend I want you to rank these football achievements in order of Difficulty Okay So we've got Conceding 15 goals In a season Getting yourself 100 points In a season Four titles In a row Or winning the treble Right

57:31Nicky Butt:Do you want me to go first then? What's the hardest thing Out of them?

57:34Paddy McGuinness:I'll be picking One of the bottom two of me

57:36Nicky Butt:I think treble's the hardest Am I ranking them all? I think treble's Probably the hardest

57:43Paul Scholes:Why is the treble that is it because it's all in one season and you've got to have that big squad yeah well you know it doesn't happen

57:50Nicky Butt:it's happened twice properly did it I mean in England anyway so treble's your number one treble's number one 100 points in a season is it's not easy we'd never achieved it I know City did didn't they 4 titles in a row though you can't knock that it's 4 titles in a row harder than the treble I'd go that way

58:08Paddy McGuinness:I'd go treble 4 titles 15 goals 100 points and I know 100 points is really really really difficult but so I was only considering 15 goals yeah I'd go I'd go treble four titles 15 goals 100 points

58:22Paul Scholes:treble four titles 15 goals 100 points do you know

58:25Nicky Butt:I'd go four titles first oh you've changed from treble yeah what made you change how many people have done four titles doing that over four years is that a city I don't think we ever did it we did three didn't we yeah

58:37Paul Scholes:do you not win four in a row no

58:39Nicky Butt:three

58:39Paul Scholes:if I'd have had to put 100 quid on that I'd have thought yeah United did that back in the day

58:44Nicky Butt:look it's hard to keep that going the hunger in your belly the team might have to change in that period as well so it's hard to do that say Liverpool last year I thought yeah they could win a team in the next four or five years and look what's happened to them this year so I'd go four titles in a row treble

59:04Nicky Butt:100 points on 15 goals I think you can put them in any hole you just do that I couldn't remember what you said a minute ago he said fucking treble and I say treble I can't remember what you said but 15 goals must be hard that's why that's why right

59:19Paul Scholes:little bit of a a curveball now lads we're talking dinner guests dead or alive you can thank you we can pick any four but

59:32Nicky Butt:your first four I was not going for dinner with anyone

59:35Paul Scholes:you have to fucking help do you know what

59:37Nicky Butt:I get really insight in what life's like it is on some fucking Christmas day I'll tell you a story about presents it's this shit these I'd pay not to go for the dynamism but you know what it's about this

59:46Paddy McGuinness:with football we sat so it was me Gary Neville Ryan we got invited to Wings in Manchester after we've all signed

59:54Paul Scholes:a plate in though after the European game

59:57Paddy McGuinness:I wasn't playing we were all retired and we was going with Peter Lim who's a friend of ours he owns Valencia and what's the super agent called George Mendes so he goes Maradona's coming so we sat there and I'm going Diego Maradona literally is like my god isn't he just literally are you making this up no no ask the lads it's a true story so literally he's going I'd like to ask him about his life because if you ever see a documentary it's phenomenal so he comes in and we're sat there and I'm going it's my don and he goes hello hello hello hello and he sits there he's got two phones a girl walks in sits on his

1:00:34Nicky Butt:where's skulls again

1:00:34Paddy McGuinness:sits on his knee right dinner table sits on his knee for about two hours then he gets up says bye bye bye walks off but going back that would have been one of my before I met him that would have been one of my dinner guests

1:00:50Paul Scholes:just hang on a minute so she sat on his knee snogging and you're just all getting on as though this isn't happening

1:00:57Paddy McGuinness:you know you're literally going like that oh my god this is like the most uncomfortable thing ever I remember that when we did that I don't know I just waited there but you don't remember us going no

1:01:05Paul Scholes:I mean just to be sad just to say I had a Chinese with Maradona's up there, isn't it? Yeah. So your first four guests. Sporting or a bit of mixture? No, no, this is what I was going to say. Your first four are any sport. I love golfers, mate.

1:01:20Nicky Butt:I'm just going to choose all golfers.

1:01:21Paul Scholes:Well, you do. You should. You're a dinner.

1:01:23Nicky Butt:Tiger Woods. Right. Rory McIlroy. Yeah. I love Shane Lowry as well. I just think you'd have a good night with him. Right. So that's that. I've got four. Fucking hell, five. It's not difficult, is it? That's including me as a four. Yeah, you're right.

1:01:37Paddy McGuinness:Scrooge is four. Guests.

1:01:41Nicky Butt:I like Tommy Fleetwood as well. I know that he's a bit different, isn't it? But I love golfers. I'm obsessed with golf and watching golf.

1:01:47Paul Scholes:And if any golf company and I watch you, we see this every week. For God's sake, just send us something. We're not even bothered about being sponsored. Just send us a pair of shoes. Dead or alive,

1:01:56Paddy McGuinness:I would go Muhammad Ali,

1:02:03Nicky Butt:Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan,

1:02:05Paddy McGuinness:Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Michael Jordan, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson George Best

1:02:13Paul Scholes:I knew Mike Tyson would be in there I did yeah I'm going George Best stop copying Tyson Fury Mike Tyson yeah Tyson Fury Tyson Fury

1:02:23Nicky Butt:sure that's not great I don't know with him

1:02:27Paul Scholes:sorry it's my guess this

1:02:29Nicky Butt:I don't ask the question it's my guess I feel like I don't know Tyson Fury before

1:02:33Paul Scholes:well I've had a coffee with him and that's why I thought he's actually really good to talk to he's very very very knowledgeable about boxing I think he's an interesting well he's a boxer yeah but no but some boxers don't have that wealth of back knowledge do you know what I mean Tony Bellew's got all that history of boxing and what have you yeah fucking hell right where am I George Best Tyson Fury the late great Ricky Atten great lad I've had many he's just brilliant company and oh who's who's me last hang on I wrote this down hang on I don't want to ah of course how can I forget Frank Worthington oh I don't like that that would have been brilliant right you love him that much you forgot his name no no no no I wrote it down for myself I'd give this a bit of thought you see I thought who do I and there's a lot of people you can't even go JJ JJ

1:03:36Paddy McGuinness:JJ

1:03:37Paul Scholes:well I've listen JJ is a legend I've been in his company many a time loveliest loveliest bloke ever but around the table you want a bit more chat a bit more stories quiet lad right four I'll get my phone out oh fucking hell I'm not playing

1:03:56Nicky Butt:non-sports I'm not playing I'll do it go on Mandela did you go to meet Mandela this is crazy this he's picking United yeah yeah do you remember we could have gone with England do you remember but we were staying in Durban and you got the choice to go and meet him. You had to fly, like, go for the day. Didn't bother.

1:04:18Paddy McGuinness:We met him.

1:04:18Nicky Butt:It was only about seven or eight, wasn't it?

1:04:20Paul Scholes:That's up there. Imagine shaking Mandela's hand.

1:04:23Paddy McGuinness:We played pool with him in South Africa. You played pool with him? No, we was playing around the pool table, I don't remember. We played killer with Nelson Mandela.

1:04:29Paul Scholes:Christ almighty, you can't just drop some of that. You played pool with Nelson Mandela? I didn't play pool with him.

1:04:34Paddy McGuinness:He was playing pool and he just said he did.

1:04:36Paul Scholes:No, he did say he did. play pool you just said you played pool

1:04:38Paddy McGuinness:with him

1:04:39Paul Scholes:I was playing pool

1:04:41Paddy McGuinness:with a couple of lads and he comes in everyone goes like that stands to attention and he took the cue off I think it was Bex might have had the cue actually or someone had the cue off him and he took the cue and he hit the ball there I had the cue in the hand I wouldn't say I had fucking 19 frames with him no but you did

1:04:57Paul Scholes:start the whole anecdote with I once played pool with Nelson Mandela we got that on camera but then he just walked past the window outside

1:05:06Nicky Butt:I remember going to his office where he has that big like a press room wasn't it I remember the whole room did you play table tennis

1:05:12Paul Scholes:with him in that the whole place honestly the whole road outside the whole road outside

1:05:18Paddy McGuinness:shuts down you're thinking no obviously yeah anyway so it'd be Mandela oh so did you play pool

1:05:26Nicky Butt:then Mark was he any good Mandela I beat him was it in the Royal Oak he was playing Nelson Mandela and Sean Sean and Sean are here

1:05:36Paul Scholes:from the Gaelic Football League. Sean and Sean.

1:05:39Paddy McGuinness:Nelson Mandela, Sean Connery.

1:05:42Paul Scholes:Oh, good show.

1:05:43Paddy McGuinness:Is it Gaelic Football?

1:05:45Paul Scholes:And, oh,

1:05:46Paddy McGuinness:John Wayne.

1:05:48Nicky Butt:John Wayne.

1:05:49Paul Scholes:There you go. Right, I'm going Mandela, funnily enough. I've not got anything. You've not all right,

1:05:53Paddy McGuinness:Donald, you're copying me, aren't you? Get your phone out. I've got it here. Let me see it.

1:05:59Nicky Butt:Frank Worthington. Frank Worthington. Peter Kay. Peter Kay. Mandela. Right.

1:06:06Paul Scholes:Nelson Mandela. I thought that said coming back to him. Clint Eastwood. Yeah, that's a good one. What's up with Clint Eastwood? Why? Because he's fucking Clint Eastwood. Have you never seen The Goods, The Bad and the Ugly?

1:06:19Paddy McGuinness:I can't do this. Scully doesn't watch any films. He doesn't watch anything. You can say to me you don't watch fucking films. He doesn't listen to music. He doesn't watch films.

1:06:28Paul Scholes:He does nothing. You must have watched a fucking film. You must have watched a Clint Eastwood film in your life. Good, Bad and the Ugly. A Few Dollars More. Dirty Harry. Escape from Alcatraz

1:06:37Nicky Butt:yeah

1:06:38Paul Scholes:Withering Nights

1:06:40Nicky Butt:fuck it

1:06:41Paul Scholes:come on

1:06:41Paddy McGuinness:who's your next one

1:06:43Paul Scholes:Quentin Tarantino

Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Paddy McGuinness are back with another episode of The Good, The Bad & The Football.  The lads relive the chaos at Anfield as Manchester City snatched it late to beat Liverpool, with Scholesy and Butty full of praise for the champions’ comeback mentality. Nicky also gives his verdict on the goalkeeping for Dominik Szoboszlai’s free-kick - insisting Gianluigi Donnarumma should have done better - while the panel discuss why the result will have felt like a punch in the stomach for Arsenal players watching on.

There’s a deeper dive into the title race too: does this City squad’s number of non-title winners matter? Do Arsenal have the fear factor of the great Premier League sides? And do Gunners fans head to games expecting victory yet?Attention then turns to Liverpool, where pressure is beginning to mount on Arne Slot, before the focus shifts to Manchester United. The team debate the dilemma facing the United hierarchy over whether to give Michael Carrick the head coach job permanently, praise the form of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo and there's even a mention of United possibly being involved in a title bid in the coming seasons. Meanwhile, they also have some words for some of the pundits now rowing back on their earlier takes about Ruben Amorim's suitability for managing the club. There’s also a message for the United Strand over a potential haircut, a heated discussion on Cristian Romero’s latest red card and his Spurs future - Scholesy says he would love him at Old Trafford — and questions over how safe Thomas Frank’s job really is.The lads also tackle a big football debate: what’s the greater achievement: the Treble, 100 Premier League points, four titles in a row, or conceding just 15 goals in a season? Later, the football chat gives way to chaos…again. Paddy is stunned by Scholesy’s lack of film knowledge, the boys pick their dream dinner guests (dead or alive), prompting Nicky to share stories of a meal with Diego Maradona and a game of pool with Nelson Mandela, and Paddy reveals why he’s covered in fake tan… and just how far the spray went.If you want to ask the guys anything about football email them at: questions@goodbadfootball.co.uk.Follow The Good, The Bad & The Football:YouTube: www.youtube.com/@goodbadfootballpodInstagram: @goodbadfootballpodX/Twitter: @goodbadftblpodTikTok: goodbadfootballpodFacebook: www.facebook.com/goodbadfootballpod
