In short

The Good, the Bad and the Football episode mixes banter about cinema food and bad takeaways with football discussion on Michael Carrick’s expected permanent Manchester United appointment, Liverpool manager Arne Slot and Mo Salah’s latest comments/tweet fallout, and Chelsea’s move for former Liverpool/Spain defender Marcos Alonso.

Guest backgrounds

No named guests appear in the transcript; the hosts are the “crack team” (including Nicky and Scully) plus a “bloke at the back of the room” who makes roll-ups. A “Vernon Kay” is mentioned as a potential Wembley attendee, but he is not a guest in the episode.

Key claims

  • Carrick’s interim success merits the job; recruitment and backroom staffing are now the biggest challenge.
  • Slot’s authority is under pressure; Salah’s tweet is framed as a dig at Slot and as evidence of player-manager tension.
  • Alonso to Chelsea is described as “mind-blowing.”

Notable examples

  • Carrick’s United record cited: 16 matches won, 11 drawn, 3 lost, 2.
  • Salah “would’ve been dropkicked” compared to Sir Alex’s authority.
  • Cinema anecdote: a friend accidentally drops a spearmint into a popcorn tub.
  • Bad Chinese takeaway: pale egg fried rice and “bad hand dryer” complaint.

Oh, lads, very exciting this one. Penultimate podcast to the end of the season. And our crack team, I say crack team, it's that bloke at the back of the room making roll-ups, have had a brainwave. Because it's called the good, the bad and the football, they've said, why not talk about something good and something bad that's happened to you during the week?

1:27To come all season for this. all season. I'm going to start us off with something good. Got it. And when I say good, it just, it amused me when I was watching it on the telly. I found a modern footballer who, the more I see of him in interviews, the more I think we've found our next Paul Scholes. Cole Palmer. Cole Palmer. No. We were going to guess. Oh, sorry. I didn't realise that. Go on. Right. Okay. Why? I was going to say that. I'm glad you asked, lads. I'm watching an interview he's doing, some football-like Sky Sports thing, on last Saturday morning. And there's a young lad interviewing him, right?

2:13And he says, he says, what's your favourite film? Classic. Don't like films, don't watch them. So I'm going, I've got my Paul Scholes tick list out. I'm like, tick. but the next question which absolutely blew my mind he goes to Cole Palmer he goes oh why do you not go to cinema you know what his answer was he said no because the TV is too big no what no he didn't Cole that's because it's a cinema screen he said I don't like it the TV is too big and then the young lad if that had been me they'd have been picking me up off the floor the young lad's not even got he went oh right and then he goes and also the TV is too loud I'm with him with that I don't know if Cole Palmer that's right though it's loud I think the modern day footballer they've probably got that much money that when they go around to mates houses they probably are like cinemas and he goes to the local cinema and thinks he's his mates like man cave underground.

3:28But he says, the TV's too big and the TV's too loud. Then, the only thing he did say where I went, I agree with this, he went, overpriced. I agree with that. Yeah. It's a piss take, isn't it? It's everywhere, isn't it? Popcorn and stuff. It's dear, dear, we don't take your kids to the pictures. I always stop at the petrol station first. You're tight, boss. What for? Hang on a minute. I thought we were all in agreement then for a packet of popcorn well bag of Harry Bowls you tight packet of worthless for me how'd you get them in in your fucking pocket they're not fresh it's not airport you're not going on a flight you're just going you're just going watching a new guy Richie film do you not do that you'll get a hot dog at a petrol station do you take a hot dog that's the only thing I will get though I do love a I do love a cinema hot dog

4:16Nicky:they're hot dogs they're rolling yeah I like that they're fucking rubbish they're awful I like it cheaper than better sweet and salt sweet and salt popcorn mixture you i'd say i don't get salt popcorn no i don't get it together it's mixed up wrong beautiful i see you two as sweet and salty which is which well it changes doesn't it when you're just talking of popcorn by the way you can't whack a butterkist no too sweet that's why i like a bit of salt in it no i'm with you sweet butterkist popcorn it's a treat isn't it you open a bag of that at home, it's game over. You're not putting half a bag back away.

4:52Do you not like a butterkist? No, mate. So if you go to the cinema, you will never buy your sweets first. You'll buy them there. Do you go to pick and mix?

5:01Nicky:No, I don't have any sweets. I was just told you you have a salt and sweet popcorn and a bottle of water and a coffee. Hang on. Well, you've got to have a packet of Revels as well. Hang on a minute. Oh, I know. You're speaking logic here. You go to the cinema, you have a coffee, a bottle of water, and a fucking bucket of salty popcorn. Half and half, salt and sweet. That's horrific, innit? It's not. What an horrific day out that is. Half and half, salt and sweet. It's not a treat, is it? It's not a treat. It's like eating cardboard. Oh, do you know what I did once? When Batman first came out at cinema, me and all my mates went, and my mate, like you, he had that bucket of popcorn.

5:38I think he went salt and sweet, sweets and salty, whatever it is, salt and sweet. Wait a minute, how old is your hair now? Not 48. I don't know. That's right. me and all my mates you do know that you do know that I'm a year older than you two you talk as though I'm like fucking 82 year old well come on when was this film well when Batman come out so early 90s I were about I'd say probably about 18 at the time 17 or 18 anyway my point is my mate's got a bucket of popcorn it's pitch black in the cinema Batman's on he's chomping away I'm chewing a spearmint behind him now if you take a spearmint out of your mouth and look at it it kind of looks a bit like popcorn doesn't it all chewed up put it in I dropped it in his tub when my lads were talking to him.

6:22But you know when you do one M1s and you forget about it yourself, and then just in the peripherals, I saw him go like, and he went...

6:32To this day, it's an absolute pearler. What would you get at the cinema? What would I get? A hot dog, some popcorn, a packet of Rebels. How do you eat all that? You were just slating the hot dog a minute ago. Oh, no, I wasn't like it was. Do you go ketchup and mustard? No, I don't like mustard. Just ketchup. Yeah. The mustard at the cinema's not too bad, though. It's not too fiery. No kind of mustard. Do you ever go to the ice cream counter? No. Fucking great day out this with you two. Cinema. Sat there. So when do you get your ice cream?

7:03Nicky:I don't even see. There's no ice cream at my cinema. Yeah, there isn't mine. There's ice cream at every cinema. There's no ice cream, man. Listen, when I were a kid going to cinema, they'd come down with fucking chocolate ice. Yeah, I remember. In the interval. Do you remember that? There's ice cream synonymous. in fact I go cinema hot dogs ice cream that's your given and popcorn it's part of the problem with the cinema being so expensive these days actually that's why people don't go but they have tried and I must admit when you do go it is pricey but getting the feet up at one of those everymans I went to the one in London they were serving beer at the seats yeah bring it straight to you and the food's good as well amazing I've never been to one I used to go to the showcase when I was about 60 Hollywood Bowl Ashton Bellevue Showcase Cinema and we found a way of getting from one cinema to the next without paying so you watch your film and go in the back way into the next one and sit at the back and when we found out when you go around the back way it's where they kept all the popcorn to put it into the machines oh it was popcorn heaven three four films a day with a load of popcorn and screw all this how did you get the popcorn in because well you found you found the popcorn but how did you transport it into the cinema picked it up what just a fucking handful of popcorn No, it was in bags.

8:17Nicky:It was in fucking big container bag things, put them in. You took the whole bag in? Yeah, like a bin bag. No, no, you didn't. We did. No, I'm not having it. I'm not having it. I'm sorry, big clear bags. You tip it all in. Yeah, but imagine walking in one of them. It's like walking in a fucking bin bag. I was going to worry about that. We didn't go in the front where we were. You're not listening to the fucking story. Go on. You go in the back way out. Yeah, but you still have to walk into the actual room with the seats. No, no, no, you go in the back way, know where the projector is. Well, you sat outside at fucking walk.

8:45Nicky:You know what the projector is on the back row? Well, there's an exit there, so you go out the exit there instead of going to the main exit where you're coming out. There's a back bit for staff. We used to go to the staff and then into the next one there. Showcase cinema. Yeah, but you were still walking into the room. It was about 14 hours. It was about seven films. I got eight, nine hours there like that. How much did you get fruit popcorn? Didn't eat for a week. Jesus. Dare I ask, anything good or bad happened to you two this week? Yeah. Crap my windscreen. You blame me for that? Yeah. kicked the ball at it.

9:15Yeah. Last week after the podcast, that didn't happen. Paul Scholes booted a ball at Nicky Buscar. Cracked a windscreen.

9:21Nicky:Cracked a windscreen. Hey, that's a few quits. There's a fee going in. That's a few quits. There's a fee going in. That's a few quits. To be fair, it was weird how it cracked because it only hit the wheel, but I'm claiming that he's got to pay for my cracked windscreen now. Do you know something bad what happened to me? And I think everyone will absolutely agree with this. There's nothing worse, and I had it delivered to my house and then a bad Chinese. Oh, no. Oh, you just feel like you've had the rug pulled from underneath your feet. Did you try a new Chinese? I tried a new Chinese. Idiot. Schoolboy era.

9:56Schoolboy era. I know. What did you have as well? I had salt and pepper chicken, which is normally like a given. And I had the duck a la ronge. Fuck you. Duck a la ronge. Who gets that? He's Chinese. He gets that from Chinese. Duck a la ronge. What about chicken fried rice curry? sauce that went to bolton chinese was it never had duck in orange sauce no not from chinese chinese never never from a chinese i never know they did it the only thing the only duck i eat is

10:24Nicky:the crispy duck in a pancake that's it duck all around that's not even chinese that's like uh man's to be fair though no no that is chinese but it's not duck in orange sauce but a bolton lad would get chicken fried rice curry sauce he's now a full and fan we'll get into that in a bit He's now a football fan. So he's on the old Kent Road now. We're getting a duck all the fucking ronge. Nice. Listen. Duck all the ronge. And he called himself Patrick. Patrick now. Patrick. Patrick. Not even Paddy. You could go to any Chinese restaurant in the North West. They all sell duck and orange sauce. Yeah, they all sell fucking chicken feet, but no one orders it.

11:00Nicky:In fact. Wait a minute, though. You've just changed the name of it, though, haven't you? Go on. Well, it is called duck all the ronge. Duck and orange sauce. Yeah, but also, and he's giving it, oh, I've had duck, but I have it with the pancakes. That's posher. Pancakes with cucumber and fucking hoisting sauce. That's posher. Is it? Crispy duck. Yeah, it's posher. You get a proper quarter of a duck. Of course it's posher. It's not. Orange sauce. He slices a duck in a fucking plastic tub with some orange sauce. It's essentially ducking marmalade. You don't get more working class lads. Duck a l 'orange.

11:29Fucking ducking oyster, whatever. Carry on, Patrick. Anyhow, salt and pepper chicken, duck a l 'orange. and I got an egg fried rice. Now, the reason I went egg fried rice, I feel as though if you go to a Chinese, you go with the basics. If the basics are good. That's why you got the collar arms. You know you're onto a winner. It's really basic. It is a basic thing. Egg fried rice is basic. But when I open the egg fried rice, I like an egg fried rice when you open it, all the peas and the eggs in it and what have you, and it's like a brownie colour. This, I opened it, it was pale. I knew straight away taste not a flavour on it and I just knew and I got everything else out and I was like oh we're devastated bad Chinese and another thing that I can't put up with in life is a bad hand dryer when you've had a pee hand job hand dryer yeah I've not found an hand job I didn't like to be honest in my life they're all up there especially me own but you know when you go to an hand dryer and it's like it's as though someone's got asthma blowing on your hands and you're like that and you just end up wearing both of your hands on your skin that so bad Chinese and a bad hand dryer good thing that happened though oh Salford got to Wembley didn't it yeah brilliant last minute good thing wasn't it as did Bolton and we're going to talk about this oh we are don't worry about that we are Bolton fans we'll be talking about this in a bit

12:58Nicky:you've got Wembley to go to watch your number one fan you've got a Wembley to watch your team I am you what are you doing Sunday are you going to Wembley to watch your team do you want to get into this now what's not decided right I'll tell you what happened the mighty Bolton have sold 30 ,000 tickets and fair play to him it's amazing the biggest so-called Bolton fan who never stops talking about who's got a Bolton kill there he actually insisted is going watching Fulham Newcastle I'll leave it at that Bolton fans right do you know what he lives in Presbury he eats duck Alarange and he's going watching Fulham Newcastle I fucking rest my case I've got to say that's not a good look and he introduced himself before he introduced himself before I'm getting hot as well I'm getting hot yeah because we've got guests in I'm using Sunday names have you been Bolton are you done with Bolton or because you moved away right listen just so Vernon Kay's going Vernon Kay's going Vernon Kay will definitely be going Vernon Kay will definitely be there proper fan but he's in a box like the Gallagher's have and all that stuff as well yeah well if I go I won't be in a box where I'd be amongst the muck and the bullets.

14:03But you're not going, no, Pat. Well, I've not said I'm not going, have I? Yeah. You two have presumed this. Where are you going, Sunday? You're lying. Right. You're lying. Just for the lovely subscribers, we're going to pick this up at the end of the podcast. Stick around. You're going to think about his excuses. So I can come up with stuff in my head. But we'll come back to that question. Right, OK. Shall we get into the football, lads? Straight off. Oh, Carrick. Looking like he's got the job.

14:32Nicky:yeah it is I think obviously he's done amazing since we've got him and he's been ups and downs the conversation around is he the man is he not the man no one will know until next season after a transfer window or two but one thing he has done is he's done the best job he could possibly do when he went into Man United and that was his remit get him into the Champions League bring some stability around bring the you know the good feel factor back to Old Trafford and he's done it so who's anyone to argue about him not having the job or doesn't deserve a job I'm glad he's got it let's see where he goes from here he's going to have to get his backroom staff sorted out he's going to have to get his squad sorted out he's going to be a hundred mile an hour in work now every single day with recruitment team so yeah let's see what comes of it we've said it many times he deserves a chance from what's out there look is he the best manager in the world no he probably isn't and I always say United should always have the best in class in everything whether it's players whether it's staff whatever at the football club they should now obviously the people like Enrique and two colleagues they are for where they are now in management they're at a different level of course they are but he's done everything to deserve what are you laughing at?

15:45he's done everything to deserve a chance at the job but as Nicky says it'll be our expectations from next year because he's got to try and get them closer in the league 16 matches won 11 drawn 3 lost 2 I mean what?

16:00Nicky:You can't argue about what he's done as a record, and it sounds like the club are, I sort it out and it's done, it's not official yet, but it sounds like it's done. And I like Scully quite out, it says there's nobody out there that you can say, well, I can't believe you've gone for Michael when you've got X, Y and Z there in the shadows waiting, there's none. So give him a job. They should have given him, in my opinion, two months ago and give a bit more of a head start on the recruitment, because that's the biggest thing now is that football club's recruitment. And not only the ones coming in, it's the ones going out, because you're going to have to get rid of a few players.

16:32Nicky:I think they've already had conversations about that, wouldn't they? Surely he must have been involved with that. Has he not already got his backroom staff set, though? Yeah, he would have. If he's been successful. I think when you go in as an interim to go in for two, possibly three years, you're going to have to have a rethink about everything and I'm sure he'll be doing that. Like Nick said, this job changes now for him. It's still a big job now, don't get me wrong, but now it's real. He's got trophies to go for. He's got to try and get them close to winning the league. and that'll come from expectation if we're in November I don't know what United will expect the expectation has to be tapered a little bit it has to be can we win the FA Cup can we win the League Cup can we get second in the league or third you have to remember this is Man United they expect everything you expect in the world I think it'll also depend how the other clubs kick on because I think what you do with Man United fans or ex-Man United players your very tunnel vision about Man United if Man United get better we'll have a chance Man City won't sit still Arsenal won't sit still Chelsea looks like they're going to have a go with Alonso as well so these other clubs are also moving forward and our visions are getting better so it's not a case of right everyone's staying there and Man United are going to go like that straight get miles better go right to space if you like it doesn't work like that I was just going to say I just thought Michael doesn't think because we've done so well that that's it the job's done it there's still a lot of things in that team he needs to improve do you think behind the scenes at United when he got the job?

17:59Because obviously, you know, people like yourself who've played the game, everyone had an opinion on Michael coming in his interim. And I think everyone were kind of saying they're happy with that, but never saw him getting the job permanently. No one could envisage the success he's had. Do you think the United board were listening to the fans a little bit? The results obviously are important. Do you think they were actually speaking to other people?

18:26Nicky:Yeah. And then have said, well we might as well stick with Michael they wouldn't be doing the job right if they hadn't interviewed and speak to other people how can you it's like what do you think they've actually interviewed them interview it is a different well they've definitely spoken to other people whether or not sat down and done an official interview I doubt that but they've definitely they must have spoken to other managers they must have done because they haven't they've not done the job right you have to go and do they must have done some sort they must have done some sort of due diligence around who's going to be the next manager of one of the biggest football clubs in the world he must have done they've been really calm patient about it they've not been too emotional when they beat Liverpool in five years but they've put a lot of thought it's still not been announced yet even though we know it's done so they've reached the right decision I think over this last but again we said it a while ago what happens when you put an interim manager in who's a legend of the football club and everyone loves you're giving yourself a real problem if he does well which is what they've done so they cannot we all knew that you knew that was going to happen so now Michael's going to be Manchester United manager which is brilliant for the football club and for everybody else who knows Michael but like Scully said Michael's a very very bright bloke really good lad bright he's brilliant he will know the job he's got in his hand now it's going to be very difficult I just hope he does because I know they've done great don't get me wrong but a lot of the games they're still conceding a lot of chances they're still conceding a lot through the middle of the pitch and sometimes then games can go 50-50 now if they start again with pretty much a similar team then I'd be concerned because if they go the other way sometimes and there isn't much in game you see there's a lot of 3-2s 3-3s 4-4s the recruitment's massive for him now isn't it yeah it's bigger so I presume they've given him the job as the coach not the Amerind manager role no he'll be the coach 100 % he'll be head coach which it's not very clear is it it will be head coach looking at the way football is going what does that mean a head coach so he doesn't get to choose his players I think he'll have a say on the recruitment team he'll have to have a big say on the recruitment drive but he won't be like Sir Alex or Klopp or Pep he's my manager it'll be a real round the table discussion about why you're going to go for you or Patrick as he's known nowadays why they're going to go for these kind of players where's this come from it will be it will be a round the table discussion and he'll be involved in it Posh Patrick for Preston.

20:57Nicky:But I also think that's... What's that called, alliteration? I also think that's the right thing to do for a football club because if you get rid of the manager after a year and you've spent 300 million, they're throwing 300 million around figures now, and then the manager leaves and they're not the football club's players, they're the manager's players, it's just a shit show. So I think the way they do it nowadays, it's the right way to do it. It's a collective thing. Do you think, were you just saying there about how they've won games this season and it's not been sort of walkovers and what have you, and the midfield.

21:29Looking round now, and I've asked you this before, but now it's looking pretty much 99 % he's going to get the job. Who's a realistic candidate to bring in? Wharton? Well, there's three, isn't there? There's Wharton, Tonali and Elliot Anderson. The only thing I'd think about Elliot Anderson, I've got a feeling City might go for him. Obviously, City are going to be losing Bernardo Silva as well. and I think let's grab a joke lad cold again I forgot his name Chouamena Chouamena I like him is he just getting involved with the dust up out there that happens all the time just what you were saying about City might come in for Anderson do you think in world football stakes now if you're a young player I know what you're going to say and I don't want to answer it is City are a more appealing club to go to than United if they both come in for you at the same time if you talk about medals which really you should be then you're probably more likely to win at City at this point yeah I know that might change or what extra three years and he'd be actually he'd be a big part of it do you know to try and get into them yeah levels my list look man you're actually a bigger club and they'll always be the big club don't get me wrong but if you're thinking purely about medals and you'd have to choose City just to think we don't think you also choose a manager

22:46Nicky:yeah so if you look at like over the years it was always always Ferguson and and then it's Pep, and then it's Klopp. When you've got them people, the focal point of your football club, I think it's a lot more attractive, and no one knows what's going to be happening with Pep. Only Pep will know that. But if you're a player, you're certainly going to go and want to play for them big names. There's a bit of a concern, sorry, but when you think about the managers we've had in Premier League over the years, it's become, not a weakness, but we had the best managers. I think of Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, Carlo Ancelotti, Mourinho, Conte.

23:22All that's gone. And probably a new generation manager has to come at some point. Now we'll be talking about Alonso's, Michael Carrick's, Maresca maybe. But they're not them. They're not the best in the world, are they? And we had that for a long time. Yeah. I think it's interesting as a player, if you get the call to, for instance, Sanford City and you're hearing all the noise around Pep, that must be a thing in your choice that you think, well, would you say as a player if you were in that meeting the manager would you just say to him right are you staying but I think Pep is the big pole for City if me and Nicky were going to sort City and it's Pep Guardiola of course we'd love to play for him yeah but you'd have to you'd have to know he was staying do you know what I mean that's what I mean yeah a Maresca and a City doesn't doesn't excite you that much does it but Pep whatever Pep clubs are that would excite you because he's been the best now remember he signed them two players in January didn't he so maybe whether their agents has asked is he staying is he going or what I don't know I think it'd have to be a massive factor about it definitely I think the fact that he you know and we're all very tongue in cheek when he walked off the interview the other day with Laura Woods and TNT they were on and she asked him quite rightly if he was staying or not and he sort of walked off and they had a bit of a joke about it the fact that he's doing that says to me he's leaving because you just go up no I'm staying he's right and man's gone as well was his There's somebody else as well.

24:52There's like another... Why is he gone? I don't know. Just leave him. I don't know why. I wonder if he knows what's happening and he's already putting a bit of groundwork on somewhere else. I think people are trying to put two and two. We don't know until it's announced. I said last week, I know everyone seems to think he'll go, but I think he'll... I think he'll stay. Tomorrow morning is knocking. Stock your fridge now. How about a creamy mocha frappuccino drink? Or a sweet vanilla? Smooth caramel, maybe. Or a white chocolate mocha. Whichever you choose, delicious coffee awaits. Find Starbucks Frappuccino drinks wherever you buy your groceries.

25:26Right, chaps, that prize guy's back for another week. You can win either a Lamborghini, a Ferrari, or£200 ,000 cash. Head over to thatprizeguy.co.uk and enter for just 35 pence. Right, what I want to know is, what were your first cars? Were you bought it yourself? and you went I'm proud of that Ford Fiesta

25:50Nicky:gear 1.4 mine was an Orion gear beautiful RS body kit on oh I couldn't afford the RS body kit I didn't put it on what colour were it? metallic grey loved it I had the white one I remember that car loved it he had the biggest fucking chain lock in his car they're the ones that you just go from your gear stick to your steering wheel honestly the car was went from 0 to 60 in about 12 seconds I put that chain in, it took about 80 seconds to get there. It was that heavy. Did it have the grey cloth seats? Yeah, that's very hard, which I thought was really cool. It was driving, put your music on it, had a graphic equaliser there, and messing about with it like that.

26:31Nicky:I think, you know, that sounds better. Oh, take a little bit of the bass off, put a bit. Yeah. I pulled it out. It was no wires in the back. It was just a fake front. Brilliant. Oh, so you were just like that placebo thing. You're going, that's better. But yeah. Do you know what? A lot of cars now, when you're in and about them, and you won't think about it, is pretty much they've all got leather seats. I miss a cloth seat. When did you get in a motor with a cloth seat? Back in the day, if you look at those Orion gears, or a Sierra. Cosworth. Oh, my dear. I love a Sierra. Sierra Sapphire. You were like being in the chair in your living room.

27:04Velvety. Heaven. When you were at United back in the day, you're starting off your two young scallies going in there. All the top players, did you look at any of their cars and go, oh, I'd love one of them? All of them. Who was driving the big motor?

27:18Nicky:Lee Sharp had an MR2, a white MR2. Oh, heaven. Oh, it was gorgeous. The old Toyota. Cyrelics had a massive big S-Class like Mercedes. You'd never see where we used to live and get brought up. Yeah. But every single one of my great cars. Remember, we used to have a fella at Mercedes called John Jollies who used to look after us, yeah. John who? John Jollies. Why are you making that up? Whitefield Mercedes. Whitefield Mercedes, yeah. I think it's through Gary and Phil. John Jollies. John Jollies, yeah. Sounds like one of his mates off his stag, do you? Didn't have a circuit. And there was something wrong with my car and he gave me a big gold S-Class.

27:55I was calling him Ron. Look at me. Even Giggs used to call me Big Ron. Ron Atkinson, here he is with his gold S-Class. Oh, I felt awful driving me. Couldn't see him. Like the club cars we got. On the Prelude.

28:07Nicky:On the Prelude. On a treat. Blackfriars. Blackfriars plays an Honda. They're so nice. Yeah. I loved them, didn't they? We must have looked dickheads. we all have three all the same color all the same car blue because we said I put the registrations right because it was obviously a club car so literally his I'll never forget it his was 53 mine was 54 I think Bex's there were our kit numbers 56 training kit so you didn't have your number like 18 or 18 it was like your training number and you got your training number when you went to the when you went there at 16 he kept it all the way through your career there she scores obviously unbelievable he never changed 53 and every really and he's not reg was m53 something something and mine was m54 something something and I think best was m56 something something and then literally about guys talk about guys you go into car park and all the cars are exactly same all blue all pretty same you try to get in the wrong car about 10 minutes like cars not work his wrong car but nev nev so we get the Honda prelude use now the prelude is like a little sports car like a little sport car like Knight Rider lovely well let's not go mad but carry on Nev I always say Nev's like Benjamin Button he's got younger the older he's got now he's quite stylish he's got all the gear he drives nice cars back then he was about 60 when he was about 17 so he's gone no I don't want I don't want I want a Ford he got a burgundy Honda Accord he looked like an Uber driver at 17 my dear he had a big family car he had a family car Honda Accord Do you know what that'll be?

29:42An older person saying to him, get one of these. His dad. The bulletproof these. Get one of these. These are a good car.

29:47Nicky:They're a bit easier on the fuel. Yeah. I'm going to get Phil and Tracy in the back. Yeah, but at least, he's gone nearer to the colour of your team. Why did you all get blue cars? They were navy blue though. It weren't like dark blue. You want to see the cars he's driving now though. He doesn't rock around in them. Oh, has he gone big time? Has he started the overlap? Made a few quid. He's got the same Bentley as you. yeah Bolton boys put it out there Bolton and Berry boys done well for themselves there's no Bentleys here there's no Bentleys here but if that prize guy want to give me one I'll drive round in it a bit and I'll even do one of them things we have the massive sponsor's name across the front that prize guy Patrick though wouldn't that Paddy oh fucking hell where's this Patrick thing come from when you said hello to that then people before you no I said it to him I said it to him I said it to him I never said it to them I said it to him thank you very kindly remember head over to that prize guy dot co dot uk and enter the draw for just 35 pence and check out the rest of their competitions while you're over there just going back to United I mean this is something again just as you two have played the game and I I know it's a bit all ground this but it just fascinates me do you think Ruben Ameren is still watching the games and going you've let me down lads I don't think you'll watch I don't think could be watching any Man United games.

31:11Nicky:I think it's just a bad part of his coaching life. Do you think he will, when he's sat there, go, yeah, I hold my hands up, I played it all wrong? No, I don't think he will. They don't do that. They don't do that. I think he's got a belief. These managers, they have a belief in what they do. Belief about it. His belief was unbelievable, wasn't it? He was not changing for anything. It's a bit like Slott now. I know people have got their opinions on Slott and they don't like him. He's not a Liverpool kind of manager. He's not this, he's not that. But if he gets sacked tomorrow and leaves, he's done it his own way so you may as well get sacked doing something your own way rather than I'm going to do it your way or the owner's way or the CEO's way and still get sacked if I was a manager and I've always said this and I know Scrooge is the same as me if you do something your way and it's not good enough so what that's your way of doing things I don't think he should be able to change or don't you he never wanted to change and now what Slott's doing he's almost in a similar position to what Ruben Ambrim was because people are saying what he's doing isn't the Liverpool way.

32:10Nicky:He's got a chance to change. The kind of person you are, you recognise that, you do that in football, you change the way you play football. You're capable of changing. Some people are just like, no, that's how I do it. That's what's got me to this level and that's what I'm staying with. Amrion won and Slott won and you see like the way they've been reacted, the fans have reacted to Slott who, whether we like it or not won the league last year. You've got the players tweeting about him, you've got the rest of the players liking the tweet. For me, he's the only one that's going to be gone. Can I just talk about that?

32:41Because were you saying he's going to be gone? I'm sure I read some a few weeks back and I know it's like, who cares? But I'm sure he signed for another season slot. But when I say who cares, because it seems like even when Jim Radcliffe went, Ameren's got three years at the club and then that went with the paper it was written on. I'm pretty sure he would have signed four or five years when he was managing

33:07Nicky:before they won the match there'll be also permutations like kick in if he wins this if he gets to that level at the Champions League he'll kick in but I'm convinced that he won't be there next year can I just really what at the end of the season I think he'll just go I think it'll be a mutual agreement really I think Slott and I think Ameren are both lucky managers in the sense that the clubs they went to the fans both sets of fans are good they don't just get on the managers back straight away so you can't really argue with the decisions now and you can't argue with the fans being unhappy because they have got behind him they have given him a chance but this more Salah uh tweet firstly when I read it I thought to myself there's no way on God's green earth he's wrote that I just don't believe he's wrote it himself he's probably asked someone to do it for him in his management team or something and they're not happy about summer.

34:02But to me personally, you're leaving. Everyone knows you've not had a good back end of your season playing wise. Just let it go.

34:12Nicky:He's not got a good relationship with Slott, has he? I mean, obviously his ego is that he is one of the best all time Liverpool players and he's been amazing for them. So he's having his final little dig about what he sees. Yeah, but why do that? Because people have egos and it's just like, he is out of order. As Nicky said, that he is one of Liverpool's best players and he's had a terrible season. So what these big players do, they deflect. They'll never admit to it being their fault. They try and blame everybody else but themselves. He's just had a really poor season. He's trying to deflect the pressure away, not the pressure, but the spotlight away from him and his performance has been poor.

34:51Nicky:Going back to what I was saying then about slot. If you're slot, why would you want to stay at a football club where you're not loved, not liked, he won the league and let's be honest his mind's at the high level so he can go to another football club might go back to Holland might go anywhere Spain could go anywhere because of his CV and he can be loved again I wouldn't want to sit at a football club where he don't be I think he'll do another year I think he will the big thing with that as well it's not only Salah it's the people the other players that are liking that tweet they're liking it so they're basically agreeing and going yeah you're right it's the manager's fault look we've never manage at high levels or at any level.

35:34But you'd like to think and I think he's realised his mistakes because Liverpool's a different club. It's like United. They don't need managers to come in with their philosophies. The club dictate that themselves. And I think Liverpool especially, he's tried to change it this year. He's tried to play a different brand of football with more possession with smaller players and probably not as athletic. and I've said this before, Liverpool players, they have to reflect, players and managers and staff, they have to reflect the city and the type of people that Liverpool, they're emotional people, they want to be at you all the time, they're 100 miles an hour all the time and he's brought that out of the team.

36:17Now I think he might try and address that this summer and go back to that. I'm not saying it's just the style of Liverpool, it's not Jurgen Klopp style,

36:26Nicky:it's just Liverpool style. I was going to say then but is that not the people that bring these managers in's fault rather than the managers so if you look at when they brought Amarin at Man United Amarin was always going to play the way he played but that's Man United's fault definitely so if you look at Liverpool you know Slott who I didn't know too much about his coaching days before that pure the fact that his methodology about playing football is very Dutch it's very slow it's very build up patience you know Klopp and Liverpool is boom boom it's 100 miles it's like Man United attack attack attack now you're bringing two minds in like Amorin and like Slotin you change the philosophy so it's not their fault it is the people that bring these minds in so the big one for me is who they're going to bring in next so that's why I think he'll get another year because he won the league and I know people say he won it with a it was like a Klopp style of football more of a Liverpool style of football but then he got rid of two important players I thought Diaz and Nunes and look I know Nunes wasn't a brilliant centre forward but he was a typical Liverpool person bang at him worked him He never kicks off about being on the bench or anything like that.

37:29Diaz was the one for me. Did you see Diaz

37:30Nicky:in the first leg against PSG? Unbelievable. Unbelievable. And you're looking like, you let him go. They've had a lot of bad luck of injuries, I would say that about them. However, I just don't see him staying. Yeah, I know what you're saying about coaches being stubborn. And do you know what? I think he's handled himself really well, Slott. I don't think he's been arrogant. I don't think he's been... He's not been as off as when you saw Amory in the post-match chats. He's been brilliant in the press, it's not good enough it's not good enough I've just got a feeling he might change I think he might go to what he thinks Liverpool should be So what's happened though with the Mo Salah thing and what you said as well about players liking it which I think's again not whether you agree with him or not I'll tell you one thing about great players like that have been great players they never admit they're wrong Yeah They can never see that they're at fault for not playing well Yeah Well with that in mind let's say Sir Alex were in charge of that team and Mo Salah's played I'm not saying that's a weakness that is a strength No, no I know what you're saying I'm not saying it's wrong If Sir Alex is in charge of that team and Mo Salah's put that tweet out would Sir Alex have dropped him for this final game?

38:41Yeah, but Sir Alex He dropped kicked him Yeah But Sir Alex He wouldn't have done it Sir Alex

38:46Nicky:earned that right over so many years to get that authority at the football club whereas Slott even though he won the league the first year he hasn't built that up if you went to I did a survey with the fans at Anfield at any game I think they'd all back Salah more than Slott by about 80 to 20 % I think so I might be wrong you know I think Salah's out of order though you know what Salah's a great player and we all love him as a player brilliant but to do something like that your manager's really struggling it's the end of season but it's quite obvious they hate each other that's quite obvious so when you've got a dislike for someone like that don't tell him privately though they're different nowadays scores and the players are so different like that social media is their face to face talk like we used to knock on doors he knows exactly what he's doing and he knows the pressure it's going to put on slot but it's a lot easier to go and do that than it is to knock on the manager's door and go I need to have a chat with you because it's horrible doing that remember when you had to do it it's not nice but you had no other way of doing it when you were kids so you get it becomes your norm and then when you sit down and you're a 50 year old man and you think why did they just go and knock on the door it's because they'd never do that they never had to do it it's just all spoken through a third party or social media so that's the world that we're in and that will always continue do you imagine if Arna Slott got sacked tomorrow what would Mo Salah think in the morning I think he'd be happy there's a reason why he's doing that is because he doesn't like the bloke and he wants him out of the football club he knows he's going he knows that but he's going I love Liverpool football club I want him to do well and I'm going to have a last little stab at Slott's kidneys before I go well just with that in mind then if you're Slott are you saying to the board because you're going right that player who's causing me problems and causing a bit of dissent in the change rooms and people liking the post and all the rest of it do you almost go oh he's gone now I can I can get this team galvanised and bring them together because that like anything that bad apple spoils the barrel doesn't it yeah but if he thinks he's a bad apple I don't know he should have just dismissed him anyway don't have him involved around the team you can easily do that would you play him last game of the season yeah I think he's earned the right to play for what he's done for Liverpool he's amazing I think I'm not into all his farewells and shit but I think he should I think he should have a bit of time on the pitch yeah 100 % should be on the pitch just for what he's done for that football club yeah I agree and I think also as well Slott's damned if he does and damns it if he don't really Slott's just got to be the bigger person and say look I'll give you your farewell I don't have to speak to you ever again I think of that through all the pressure he's been on I think he's handled himself very well if Slott does go who are you bringing in at Liverpool because the big one for me which we'll get on to a second is Alonso going to Chelsea which is mind blowing to me if you've got a chance to take over at Liverpool I think with that one I heard a Liverpool fan on Tortsport this morning driving in and he said something I didn't really know he basically said well I don't think they'll go back in or was ever going to go back in for Alonso because he turned Liverpool down to go to Real Madrid now if you're Liverpool with the history that that football club's got Liverpool football club will have an ego that we're Liverpool football club and quite rightly so so they'll be thinking well you've turned us down once I'm not going in for you again that's a little bit small minded though isn't it well I don't see I'm a bit like that you can't be like that in business can you I'm a bit like that as a person I'm a bit like that as a person I just don't think we've been a bit like that with softball players haven't we yeah it's like you tried to sad him two years no I turned down I know it's a little bit of a different level but you do but like Scoles Big players with egos Big clubs have egos as well And I just think that And I didn't know that Until I heard this guy On Talk Sports Today say it So that might be an issue Why?

42:27So who would you Like to see In Liverpool Who I mean Are you right in saying You'd think Slott If they kept him Would be a success Next season? I think it depends On this summer And He's got a change To what Liverpool is What do you mean Summer? You're not on about Bringing other players in Are you? Yeah Christ they've just signed a raft of players how much have they spent Liverpool they're still going to spend in the summer every club will spend in the summer but I think he's got to try and get back to what Liverpool look he might have already gone too far down the road as Nicky seems to think as well it might be too late for him but I just think we won the league last year he's got a little bit of credit in the bank still to make it change I don't give a flying fuck who manages Liverpool to start winning

43:17Mitre The world's original football brand Been around for over 200 years From jumpers for goalposts To the Emirates FA Cup final This ball's seen it all It's the brand for proper footballers A bit like these two Mitre footballs essentially Are for players who demand quality A bit like Roy Keane Roy Keane Our old team captain Yeah In fact, out of all the players You've played with over the years You two Who demanded the most on the pitch The one I always got a bit of a shock at was when I went to England with Tony Adams. This is our turf, this is our patch, we don't let any fucker come in. Back in the day when I think about this ball and I think about the players, especially FA Cup finals from the past, characters from the 70s and 80s, when you were two young whippersnappers, who did you look at as footballers and go, oh, I want to be them?

44:09Nicky:I remember my first FA Cup final that I remember watching was at my gran's house and it was Man United, Brighton. and that's the one that stands out in my head that's when I really really got into the football Was that not the Everton one? White side That was a step over one but before that was the one before that was Brighton Oh it was 85 Oh it was 85 and that one as well with Norman's step over and bent into the far corner but yeah some of the players I played in them obviously he was Man United well Scores is a bit of older my Man United but yeah I was a Man United fan and it was always for me Brian Robson Kevin Moran Norman Whiteside Paul McGrath gods of football for me.

44:46And when you look at footballers from that era, and we're looking 70s and 80s now, some very strong looks. Now, obviously, the three of us between us are probably not the ones to talk about follicles on the top of our heads. That's right. But if we did have a lot of... What would you have gone for back in the day? Would you have been full perm Keegan? Or would you have gone Tash? Or would you have gone both? Do you know when you talk... I think of Graeme Souness me all the time. Oh, yeah. He went both, didn't he? Was it a perm Souness? No, it was a long-headed. It was actual to me. A lot of curl, though, wasn't it?

45:24I think in the world of mustaches, iconic, I'm going to put Graeme Souness right at the side of Magnum. Yeah. Because both, if you're going to grow a tache, and I think modern-day taches, You could do a good tash. No, it's a bit patched, a bit off the top of my head. I think modern day, there's an actor called Pedro Pascal. Yeah, brilliant. Great tash. Some people can just grow really good tashes. I think they're coming back, you know, because Grimsby the other night in the playoff game, they had a love with a tash. They're called green, like a proper tash. Really? You know, I tell you, you're right now, because I watch in the boxing the other week, Dave Allen, he's growing a tash.

46:07What was your favourite hairdo in the 70s and 80s? Valderrama. Valderrama, yeah. Valderrama, Rude Hullet. Carlos Valderrama. Rude Hullet, yeah. Who was the one who was spitting in his ear? Oh, Rydie Voller. Oh, Rydie Voller's hair. Yeah. Oh, that's disgusting. Just kept doing it and he was losing it. Oh, that's disgusting. Yeah. Maybe that's why everyone started cutting their ear. I can't just say, I'm sick of the groz in this. The groz. The full range of Maitre match balls are available now at Maitre.com and Amazon from training balls that never let you down to FIFA quality pro-approved match balls ready for the pingers.

46:46That includes shin pads, gloves and all the kit you need for training and of course, match day.

46:50Nicky:Check out the Maitre range on mitre.com and Amazon today. Whatever your standard, Maitre's range is in a different league. Alonso's at Chelsea now. That's official, is it now? Is it official, that? I think that's official, yeah. That's a good job for him, Matt. Yeah. Why? It feels, to me, Chelsea just feels like an absolute... Absolutely horrendous place to be as a manager. I think Alonso's an out-and-out coach. I think he needs to coach people. Young players, a lot of very good young players. Look, I'm not saying they're going to be great. I think, again, we always talk about summer and they're going to need some experience around them young players.

47:25Nicky:I think they're individually very good, Charles. They don't play the team. The Real Madrid job just didn't sue him. Real Madrid don't need a coach. They just need a manager to look after the player. So do you think, it seems to me that taking Chelsea on, because like you say, it's not the most attractive of places at the moment, he's been given free reign. It's not a bad company manager, is it? No, I know, but when you look at teams to come into in the Premier League, you wouldn't look at them and go, oh, this is a great project. Because they get rid of managers too quickly, I think, Chelsea. What they do, though, they give them a lot of funds to go and buy players.

48:02Nicky:and if you get that right they've got some good individual players in that team they're just like scores a bit of experience in there a bit of a more of a team collective putting together rather than individual the game against City in the FA Cup they battled City for the first 25 minutes half an hour they have some players that when they want to they can turn up but that's the trouble and you need some older experienced pros in that squad because you see the way from an outside looking you see I shouldn't say behaviour because I don't know but you see how they present themselves when they're walking half a bus and you know it just doesn't look right and it just looks like you know someone needs to get hold of that football club and then very very very good young players and get them playing as a football collective and they'll be fine yeah what Alonso did at Leverkusen was unbelievable it's like to break that cycle of Bayern Munich and Dortmund it's some achievement so there's got to be some he must be a brilliant coach I think I heard Deard saying in a day on TV that he was a coach and he's a player so he got involved with all the technical side of it and the tactical side of it and the player if ever a club or a team neither the culture it's Chelsea exactly at this moment now if you were offered the job of being the Chelsea manager or the Liverpool manager who would you pick?

49:12Liverpool

49:16Chelsea oh right okay so you've gone Liverpool

49:20Nicky:you've gone Chelsea why? I just think with I think the Liverpool is a bit like the Man United scenario how do you replace Klopp and how do you how do you do that it's just it's a hiding to nothing I think with I think with Chelsea now they've tried everything for the last few years they've sacked people they've brought people in they've sacked people they've got the best young coach they've got another young coach I think hopefully now with him going not hopefully but for their point of view it's like it's a clean slate and he can start again he can build his squad I just think with with Liverpool it's too soon to go in after Klopp and try and change the world there it's not he won the league after one year I know but I think my opinion on that I think that a lot of that was Klopp's work he's gone in and that was all set up to ready to go it didn't have sounds disrespectful but it didn't seem to have to do too much to get that club to win things it was that good when Klopp left that team that team was the best in Europe with no get away from it it was unbelievable I think even Pep said that the best team in Europe by far Liverpool now with Chelsea they've got a lot of good young players and it's more of a clean slate and that's just my mindset would be replacing their Ferguson or Klopp they might get that now with Pep leave it if Pep leaves when you play someone that dominant and that good at the job it's fucking hard I made my choice of who could I win the league with just when you're talking about Alonso going to Chelsea and it's looking like Michael's signing at United this is head not heart who would you see winning the Premier League first Chelsea or United United with Michael in charge I'd agree with that all right okay then you look around the Premier League you're throwing on that shit it's not I'm not looking at one team next year so they're going to piss the league the shackles might come off arse lifting they might do but I'm still they don't fit I'm not totally fair of them if Man United get the right recruitment if there's like three or four players in starting three or four players they're not far off only because sorry only because the rest of them aren't that good now there's not a standout city from eight years ago you're thinking or a Liverpool from four years ago you're thinking you're just not beating them there's no one that you're going they'd be scared of beating him.

51:28Nicky:And they've done that this year. Just randomly, because he links to United, Michael gets the job. What would happen, like, if you got a call and said, do you want to come in? Would you go in? For what? Like, just in the back room, just doing stuff. I think there's... I'm not saying that's going to happen, but I'm saying, would it appeal? I think half the players might want to knock me out. I could have a fucking line of him as I walk in. Here he is. Bang, bang, bang. But, you know, were you saying that? I think players who are heavily part of a club's history, if they ever say anything, I think Chris Sutton were getting a few pelts, wasn't he?

52:13Because he said a couple of things the other day. But I like a former player to not be totally biased. I like him sort of going, Luke, I'm going to give you an honest opinion here. and I think that's what we're all doing.

52:30Nicky:That's what we do, and some people don't like it. And, you know, there's a few things we probably said on this podcast where it's a bit tongue-in-cheek and you, like, step the mark over the mark a little bit. But what we've got on a stand - One in particular. Yeah, what we could say about the Martinez quotes, right? And I go back to it. It's like, our set-up here is not mainstream media. We're not on Sky Sports. We're not on BBC. We're a podcast of three lads with maybe one guest having a chat, like a pub talk. Yeah. It was never meant to hurt anybody. I think Marseille has done really well when he's played really really well and his little his partnership with Harry McGuire is brilliant but going back to what you just said then about going into the football club I think Michael's got enough people around him now that know that football club I think they need to go and get somebody in because there's actually a question you'd be saying about that partnership has done really well which I think it's done alright do you win the Premier League with that partnership no I don't think they do but I'm saying compared to what they was earlier on in the season with no partnership then it's it's decent but I think they need to go and buy a centre-back if I'm honest with you but I think Michael if you look at what Steve Holland's done he looks like the real really really really good guy to bring alongside you yeah Stevie McLaren he might need another one of them he might need another one of them who can like because he's got don't forget he's got Champions League this year he's got next year so he's got the Champions League he's got the FA Cup he's got the League Cup he's got the League obviously he's got to get the recruitment right he's got a massive job I've got to say I'm looking forward to next season already.

53:57Can we talk a little bit about, and probably you know, all the Scots will be like, oh, everyone's talking about Scottish League now, where were you before and all this, carry on, but the Celtic Hearts thing for me it captured my imagination, just because, again, and I don't follow Scottish football, but it's always just one of the things in it Celtic Rangers, Celtic Rangers and then this sort of thing, I kept you know, on the sport channels and what have you go Hearts are still top of the league and you go oh bloody hell what's happening up in Scotland I felt so sorry for Hearts what they've done they've been at the top of the table for like 250 days Celtic was 33 and there's no two ways about it Celtic are a fucking amazing club and you know of course they are but I think as a neutral let's say it went their way everyone likes an underdog VAR and all that kind of stuff we've not mentioned VAR have we this has been a pathetic week for VAR oh god well I know Gaz has got pelters online for saying that was an handball of Mbumo the other day but it was it was it was yeah and not just that one the two in Scotland were massive for the league well the handball the one yeah that that was never an handball at memory of man how could he give it if we were seeing the same things how could he possibly give that do you know the thing it's just the sheer power of it coming off him.

55:24It's clearly his head. I don't care how fast the ball's going. It's dropping down there. If you watch the lad actually push his hand a little bit. This episode is brought to you by Expedia and Las Vegas.

55:38Nicky:Don't have a match ticket. That's okay. The energy doesn't stop at the stadium. Las Vegas is the ultimate destination to watch, celebrate and experience the tournament. Because soccer in Vegas comes with more from watch parties packed with fans to world-class dining, resorts and pools. Plus entertainment and nightlife that carries on after the final whistle. It's not just about catching a game, it's about making a trip out of it. The kinds you take with your mates to celebrate the wins, the draws, and every moment, the action in between. Vegas makes every result worth it. So if you're looking to be part of the atmosphere today, book a trip today with Expedia and catch every match from Las Vegas this summer.

56:14Hart should have had a penalty at Motherwell. It was in the same area of the pitch and they didn't give that and it was clear penalty as well. You can see why a lot of the arts fans are kind of it's still human error isn't it humans are still making massive mistakes yeah but I tell you what I was watching it all no skin in the game again everyone loves the underdog and when it said I think there was like 700 hearts fans there or something you see in that little section it's just surrounded by green and white and you're going oh it's backs against the wall and I absolutely loved watching it yeah it was brilliant but devastated though Oh, God.

56:53It was the 83rd, 84th minute they scored. Oh, it's heartbreaking. And then that last one, that third goal, where you're just going, well, that's it now. It's game over. Where do you stand on... Like, the ref never blew the whistle. Obviously, it's over. We know that. Yeah, I'm with you. But the game was... They've not won the league yet, have they? It was stopped. Did you see all the hearts played out to leave in the kicks? Yeah, they got straight on the coach, didn't they, and left. There was chaos, wasn't it? and I think to be fair to Martin O 'Neill he's come out and said you know it was out of order and he even said the ref never blew his whistle but obviously you're 3-1 you're never going to win it with a minute left not the point but legally you've got to finish the game yeah but I tell you some as well those Celtic fans oh my god because when they went 1-0 down it was you go oh you're looking because the camera's panning around everyone and everyone's like this and fingers crossed and what have you but what a party it must have been up there that night yeah they smelt some booze on that oh that would have been something else but what a season and let's hope for that league in Scotland it shakes it up a bit yeah it's always Celtic Tony Bloom again the left from Brighton he's gone up and put that into hearts yeah amazing what they do do they do all that money ball stuff as well yeah

58:15Nicky:they did it Brighton wasn't it I know I'm going to create a rod for me own back here now but we did say at the beginning of the podcast we would circle back round to a club you used to like so this is what's happened to me folks I'm hoping I'm going to get a degree of sympathy here so about three months ago I get a call from a good mate of mine he says I've got a little thing there it's not always about money lads it's about letting people down he said I'd love to invite you to Fulham Newcastle where's he going your wallet oh fuck it okay you've got a big stash there don't you are you hot Paddy are you hot Paddy do you know what that is that's about 80 quid and I thought I'm going to save that because when I fill my car up on way home I'm going to use the old knotty ash what pound notes well it's tennis innit choker donkey that

59:21Why have I left that fucking There like that Never in my wildest dreams Did you ever look at the fiction To be in the fucking playoffs I just Well that's weird that Because I reckon three months ago They were probably in the Playoff positions No There was a chance of that No no Vernon Kay's going Firstly Real Bolton lad Clearly you're not a Bolton fan Because you wouldn't Three months ago You're not going Oh they'll be in the playoffs If you're a Bolton fan Have you been to a Bolton game This season No I've not no Have you been to Bolton since you left for Pressbury? Yes, I have. For Pressbury, it's unbelievable, isn't it?

59:55Listen, yes, but can I just say something? I had a message off my good pal Vernon saying, right, because like you two at United, everyone's scrabbling around for tickets now. Dropping names now. Everyone's scrabbling around for tickets. For what? For Bolton? Yeah, so 30 ,000, haven't they? I think you're going to take it. I think you'll get a ticket if you want one. Listen, when I say getting a ticket, yeah, you can get a ticket. Or you can get a ticket ticket. Right. So, anywho, that aside, I've got a few people who have all sorted this Fulham Newcastle thing out three months ago. And it's like you're letting everyone down.

1:00:42I'm torn between now. Obviously, it's on. I am desperate to go to what are you actually doing what are you doing there that's going to let all these people down well just being there but a friend of mine has put a lot into organising this day and if I turn round I bet you Paddy I bet you bad man if I turn round now and go Luke this is your boyhood club but it's just I like what you're doing Paddy

1:01:06Nicky:you're not letting people down I give you that good luck and good luck Stockport a lot of North West things going here it's like hey let's not fucking Stockport come on lads It's a big North West weekend and you're going down the King's Road. Yeah. It's got some, man. Do you know what I might do? Do you know what I could do? Show me face at Fulham Newcastle to keep everyone obliged. Yeah. Back of a bike, over to Bolton. Perfect. Do your gig. Salford the next day. Perfect. After the podcast Monday, Salford, watch that, home, candle. Perfect. Beautiful. Can I just say something as well? John Shields who's worked at Man United Foundation for 30 years has retired today so good luck John with your future and he's got a lot of good work he's done an amazing job there really good for the local community and surrounding areas he's got a bike ride on the 11th of June and he's going to every club in the football league all night two stadiums on a bike ride so good luck John I hope it goes well mate good luck John you know what I like that Paddy will do it but not the Bolton game not the Bolton I was just going to say it'll do 91 when you people's whose names you don't you know behind the scenes people who keep these clubs going we like that we like that right ok I'm fucking glad it's over I am glad it's over this one today because I was sweating at the end there I felt like I was in a court of law and I knew I was being sent down right that's it for today's The Good The Bad and The Football you can join us and find us on all the usual channels Apple, Spotify and YouTube Hopefully I'll be back on the next one
