In short
The episode is a football-focused discussion reacting to City vs Arsenal and then pivoting to Man United’s recent form and transfer talk, with a long, comedic detour into everyone’s “top five biscuits.”
Guests
The hosts say they have “two former Premier League winners and two Champions League winners,” but the transcript doesn’t name them clearly. It does include references to “Scholesy” (Paul Scholes), “Scolsey,” and “Paddy,” plus “Nicky,” “Ant,” and “Chuck,” implying a panel of former elite players.
Key claims and arguments
- City’s win is framed as a turning point: Arsenal played well but lacked ruthlessness in big moments.
- City are predicted to win the league due to experience, leaders (Rodri, Silva, goalkeeper, Haaland), and goal difference.
- Arsenal’s substitutions are criticized, especially taking off Eze while Rice wasn’t the standout.
- A contentious VAR/referee decision is debated: Gabriel’s incident involving Haaland is argued to be a shove/headbutt-type offense that VAR should review.
Notable examples
- Bernardo Silva’s standout performance.
- Cherky/Cherky scoring early and Arsenal equalizing within about a minute.
- Man United’s 1-0 win vs Chelsea, with a claim they beat Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea away in the same season for the first time since 1986.

What a weekend it's been, but before we get into the footy, as I've got two former Premier League winners and two Champions League winners, something I've always wanted to ask you, what's your top five biscuits, lads, before we get into the footy, because this has been keeping me awake at night. Now, before I ask you, and we all want to know this, I'm going to give you mine to give you an idea. I've made a list. All right. Excuse me, I'll reveal them as we go along. He'd better like that at school, wouldn't he, having a look? Number five, too busy because I class them as the same thing.
0:40Nice. Nice. Nice. Oh, fucking here we go already. Nice biscuits. No, no, no, no. It's a niece biscuit. No, no, no. Do you want something called niece? Nice?
0:51Nicky:Is he full? Everyone calls them Nice biscuits. The little ones with the crumbly sugar on top. It says Nice on it. Spell nice. Well, nice is spelled if it is French. Yeah, there's no inflection on the... It's Nice. I'd like them to call in and find out what it is. I'm pretty sure it's Nice biscuits. That's the last thing I thought were going to happen on this. No, no, yeah. Nice slash sport biscuits. What's sport? Like a multi-milk with a little football player on or a tennis player. You've never seen... You've never had the sports biscuits? You had them? I have, yeah. No, you said it, yeah. You must have had them as a kid.
1:25I like Nice, but I don't really like sport one. Nice fucking Nice. That's because he plays all European footballs, eh? He thinks he's like a cosmopolitan. Oh, the Nice. It's a bit, I always thought it was Nice.
1:39Nicky:Yes, Nice biscuits. I swear to God, I'd love it if everyone writes in and says, Paddy, you're wrong, because I'm pretty sure you're wrong on that one. Well, firstly, no one's writing in anymore. It's a fucking tweet or something like that. No one's going down and putting a postcard in the thing. You can't go to a shop and say, have you got any of them nice biscuits? You might pull a load out, do you know what I mean? Right, that's my number five. Number four, no offence, ginger nuts. I'd love a ginger nut. A ginger nut, and it's not something you really go to a supermarket and go, I'm going to buy a pack of them, but they never let you down, do they?
2:10They're just good.
2:10Nicky:I'm going to be honest with you, I'm going to save you a bit of time, mate. I don't really eat biscuits. No, I don't either. Oh, so you're fucking, hang on, hang on a minute. We'll just do your top five. Hang on. You don't eat biscuits, but you know they're called nice. Not for a long time. This is a curveball, my number three. Toffee pop. You had one of them? Unbelievable. Never heard of them. At last. I've never heard of Toffee pop. Unbelievable. At last. Toffee pop, is that the little circle ones? Yeah, circle one, yeah. It's like a biscuit base, caramel, chocolate. A little black thing on the top.
2:38Nicky:A bit of black chocolate. No, no. Dark chocolate. No, you're on about an ice jam, aren't you? No. No. That's not dark chocolate. Ice jam, they're like colourful, aren't they? Go on, come on. What biscuits have a fucking black bit on top, by the way? They didn't like a little tray. They didn't like a little tray and it got all little separate ones. Oh, you're on about a toffee pot. Toffee pot. That's not even a fucking... You said toffee pot. It's not even a biscuit. No, a toffee fee. Yeah, that's not a biscuit. That's actually a toffee. Number three. Sorry. Yeah, number two. Mint Viscount. Oh, yeah.
3:12He knows his biscuits. I forgot about all these biscuits. That one bit of foil, innit? Yeah. Yeah, green foil. They do an orange one as well.
3:17Nicky:I'm not saying you'll be kicking yourself. I don't think they can't, if you've got to unwrap them. Yeah, I agree with that. Biscuits are in one pack, and when you go off, you've got to roll it up. Although I don't really eat biscuits no more. I've not eaten biscuits for about 10, 12 years. Hold on a minute. Firstly, I was just going to, but I thought, you have got a point with that. A biscuit needs to be unwrapped from the packet, then not unwrap and unwrap. Exactly. But what about a wagon wheel? You've got to unwrap that twice. Is it a biscuit though? I'd never eat a wagon wheel again. It's a bit like my sausage roll thing, because it started off that big, get your money's worth, and now they're like that, but he's not a wagon wheeler.
3:50I don't know how to break this to you, but you've got bigger. When you were a kid, when you were a kid, your hands were like, you're a man now you see, Nicky. Although Colin's fucking nice niece. No, but you can get them separate though, can't you, when you say you've got to wrap it and then unwrap it again. I don't think you do, do you? Yeah, you do. You buy a pack of, you don't buy an individual wagon wheel. I think you can in the shop, yeah. No, you can't. You can't. You can't. I bet you can. You can't go in a shop and buy one fucking wagon. Oh, you can. No, you can. You can. Where? Rajas. Fucking, we're not on about penny profits.
4:25We're on about a proper supermarket. Shut up. Go on. Right. And my number one, and I give it a lot of thought, this, a crunch cream. No, that's posh. That's a posh one. That's a foxes. Yeah. A crunch cream. Hey, but a crunch cream, honestly. You never had them as a kid in Bolton. No, I know. that's why I think I like them so much because I discovered them later on in that and I'm like my god these are they a bit like a ginger nut they look like a ginger nut but they're not ginger so they're exactly the same looking biscuit as a ginger nut but it's a cream and they're like a a golden buttery flavour absolutely what a biscuit that is right that's me five that's got you in right I've made a list here in fact if you leave a comment we'll post you this we'll post you this list Right Who wants to go first Skulls or Butt
5:17Nicky:I'll go But like I say I'm not really up to date With biscuits I don't really do biscuits But one thing Are you going five first What You're going five first No I'll go one down What straight in with winner Yeah Winner's got three Winner's got three We'll start at number three then Just ask me what I want to do I want to start at one Who starts with winner A trio Fucking A trio Remember the trio? Remember the trio? Yeah. There you go. What was it with that? A fucking trio. What was it with a trio? But again, you've got to unwrap it. It's how he says it. It's not a biscuit. A trio. Is that because you're going back to the treble winning season?
5:57No. You're obsessed with fucking threes, aren't you? No, a tree. A trio. A trio.
6:01Nicky:I'm going to go with a niece.
6:06You have all fucking doing it on purpose. You're doing it on purpose, aren't you? Are you saying that's number two? You wouldn't have even said nice if I hadn't brought them up. You haven't even remembered them. I'd like a niece biscuit second. I'll put it as you say it, double E-C-E. And then third, I'm going posh.
6:23Nicky:Double E-C-E. A trio's a posh biscuit. It's round, but it's chocolate, so I don't know where you're going to go here. The Marks and Spencer's round ones with a thick chocolate. Oh, they're unbelievable. I don't know what you mean. You've got a hole in the middle, aren't they? Yeah, a hole in the middle. I remember Gary and Emma bringing them on the train. Oh, they're unbelievable. Two away games. Yeah. It's unbelievable. And do you know when you buy it into one of them? Gary Neville brought them to a football game. Unbelievable. It goes down on my estimate. What are they called them? Signature.
6:49Nicky:Signature. Signature. They're not Marks. They're Foxes then. They're not. They're Marks and Spencers. The chocolatey Marks. Google Foxes round chocolate biscuits. Yeah, Foxes might do it, but I'm talking about Marks and Spencers. Do you know when you ask me what you want? Don't fucking ask me again. You don't let me say it. No, I just want to say it. He's aggressive this morning. Put Marks and Spencers down, Ant, please. Right. They come in, they're called Heavenly Chocolate or something, they're called. It's like, I know how Fiona Bruce goes on on question time. It's the stress. And that's my strength.
7:17I understand about you saying Max Spencer, but what I'm saying, I love M &S, love M &S, but they're not the original. They've copied them off Foxes.
7:25Nicky:But I don't like the Foxes ones. You're asking me what I like. I'm telling you what I like. They're fucking exactly the same biscuit. I'm telling you what I like. Right, signature. Trio Nice, signature biscuit. That's it. I don't like it anymore. And do you know what? When you buy them, that is a very thick layer of chocolate, isn't it? Yeah, thick, yeah. Go on. A chocolate digestive. Milk or dark? Milk. Ooh. Yeah. And do you know, the chocolate digestive, I think if you did a national poll, that would be number one. A what? Poll. A national poll. A poll or a poll. A poll or a poll. You're about nice and nice.
7:53I have this argument with my kids. They say a poll. It's a poll. It's a poll. Oh, my God. What have I signed up to? I've got another two fucking seasons of this. I'm the world good. Look, we know it's double L. You've said nice and you've said poll. Yeah. You're just saying it as you see it. It's not a national poll. Catchphrase. You do know that, don't you? It's a poll. It's not. It's a national poll. Right, you know when you see it written, it's spelled P-O-L. Yeah, we know it's fucking spelled. Well, that's not pronounced poll. Say scone. Scone. Scone. Are you saying scone? Scone, yeah. Scone.
8:30I thought you two were supposed to be fucking... I thought you two were supposed to be fucking like salt of the other working class lads. You don't know how it pronounced fucking nice. You're saying Paul instead of Paul, and you're saying scorned. Jammy Dodgers.
8:43Nicky:Oh, I forgot about them. Not for me, but all right, each to their own. Chocolate Hobnobs. Fucking hell, he's riling them out, Chuck. Essentially, it seems the digestive, though, isn't it? Like birdseed, then. What? Chocolate Hobnobs? He's right. They get a bit much, don't they? All crumbly all down yourself. Well, when have you had a fucking birdseed? I can imagine what a bird seed even tastes like What have you eaten bird seed? Did I say custard creams? No Fucking hell Do you know what If you wrote this list down right If you wrote this list down With no names on the top I'd go I know exactly what a pot of schools is Bourbon What is your number one?
9:27No Relax
9:29Nicky:I forgot about it Bourbon Boring fucking biscuit I'm going back to my nanas biscuit That's on the notable mentions though I'm going mixed up Remember the pink wafers I didn't really have a number one Oh that's a fucking poor number one that At least I picked five biscuits It's not something you've got to fucking unwrap Penguin's the best one A pink fucking wafers With pink cream in the middle You're classing us a biscuit Right Sign that under there We'll give this away Get that Lovely stuff There's yours It's so scruffy That's all bad isn't it Shit Oh Fucking hell He's even spoke shit wrong Right It's shit Fucking Not that mine though Sheet Sheet Hey Paul Sheet Can we have a poll about this please Here ya Can I have a poll Here ya Graham Paul Can I have that Graham Paul Give that away to one at Subscribers I've wasted 20 minutes of my life I've never getting that back I'll put that over though Because the subscribers are having that Now we're talking Here we go What a game it was City Arsenal it had everything didn't it it had that that like real tension both teams went for it they were like fighting for it wanted it so they can both reach 85 points if they both win the remaining fixtures and it'll all come down to goal difference then firstly what are your thoughts on the game I thought it was a brilliant game to watch you know it's probably you don't see many games like that nowadays do you know all the aggression up front with Haaland and the defender proper game then you've got the skill set of some of the systems of play with City the way they played and the goals and the intenseness of wanting to win the league who's going to win it who's not going to win it I thought it was just a really good watch really good football I actually thought Arsenal played well however you're better off not playing well and winning aren't you in this time at this start of the year it's not it's not what listen Arsenal weren't waking up this morning thinking lads we played really well we're okay they'll be absolutely flat today they'll be really devastated about losing that game because that is could be I do think that'll be a massive turning point I think City now will go on and win it after that Do you think they'll win the remaining games City?
11:42I think there's a chance both of them will I think goal difference will be massive When they were sitting at that game yesterday and they go oh you know Havertz and Eze that won it the post the difference is for me they've got an Ireland at City that person and you just go, if he sees the goals, he's putting it away.
12:03Nicky:Is it five times they've won it in six years now? If they get this year. Is that where he's been? That is phenomenal. They didn't win it last year. I think it's five times in six years. It's ridiculous what he's done with, and I think Pep, he might put winning this league down as one of his biggest achievements as a coach. You think where they were in December? I was going to say that. Last year, they were struggling. In November, he's basically saying we're nowhere near good enough to win the league and we were all saying it to be fair and we've probably said things over the course of this podcast saying they'll come back, they've got potential and it's proven that when you've been in that situation so many times it does become, not easy, that's not right but it becomes a lot more natural for you to go and play in them big games and Scorsese's been saying it for a while about Arsenal can't seem to get a result against their big competitions and it's proved it again on Sunday Well one thing City had though in January they spent well you think of Semenya Gaye Gaye especially look I think Arsenal were decent yesterday but when you play big games you can lose them you know that you can but I've just seen Arsenal over the last few years if they're going to win the league at some point they're going to have to beat them they failed to do that again yesterday and they had big chances and you talk about the difference in centre forwards I think if them chances come to Haaland it's a goal you've got to be ruthless in them situations and unfortunately he just wasn't and I think Arteta changed a little bit yesterday and it's not always easy to do that is it when you go in a certain way and play in a certain way all of a sudden you play quite an attacking team it was great to watch it was exciting it was exciting but you can't just switch it on and off like that do you know what I mean you can't think all of a sudden we're going to score 3 or 4 or 5 goals now I think if he sticks with that type of team for his last we've got 5 games left on there goal difference they're going going to have to try and score lots of goals to win games.
13:57City will do,
13:58Nicky:City will score goals so they're going to have to, it's going to force them into a different way of playing. Like I said, I thought they played well yesterday, which is no consolation, they played well yesterday but they still lost the game and they'll still be sat on the, you know, in the changing, hopefully in the changing we're discussing it now or whatever they're going to do. Is it a day of rest? I don't know. They play, does it play Wednesday or is it? Who? Arsenal? Arsenal. No, they'll play until Saturday, Newcastle. A couple of days off now but they'll be sat there thinking that is a massive massive even a draw there even a draw there they've won it it's not so much them games I mean you start a season you think who's going to be our rivals your Liverpool your cities obviously they're going to be big ones big games Man United it's still a big game although we know United aren't what they are you can always lose them games it's them other games you've got to make sure you think of Bournemouth last week I think they drew with Brentford as well and somebody you can't drop points against them teams you say that's goalie though but when you've done it yourself when you're going for them titles them games give you so much confidence like when we played Newcastle the way I remember it was Cantona scored that goal and Schmeichel was unbelievable they were our big rivals we went to Newcastle and won 1-0 now Newcastle battled us for about 60 minutes they battled us for 60 minutes but we had the big players stepped up the Schmeichels the Keens the Scolsey the Cantona with a goal then players step up to it and I get what Scolsey's saying that they could probably lose in their games was it Bournemouth they lost against Arsenal Bournemouth but when you go there it's a massive statement now for City yesterday I mean you can see Pep after the game it's a massive statement they think they're going to win now can I ask you a question sorry Pat can I just say you talk about big players standing up there look who stood up yesterday Bernardo Silva unbelievable we'll get on to it oh my god and where's Arsenal's players that are going to win you the league you know what I mean big games like that and also as well Silva where's Declan Rice Declan Rice a great player but he wasn't the best player they took off Eze is it Eze or Eze what is it you're going to correct me no I agree with you on that Eze Eze Eze nice Eze no but Eze was the best player and he comes off and I'm going that is a weird one it's a weird one for me he looked like the one that could you know unlock the the lock if you like his effort was very good effort very close do you know when that happens where he took him off and you're not on your own I thought I think everyone thought when he took him off why is he doing like when you're on the pitch do you not do you sort of go what's Gaffer doing here do you know do you know if they bring him off if they bring him off and they put Dalman on for him yeah no he's got it's okay but he brought Tross over Tross over he has got a goal he has got a goal yeah but I just think at this very moment who's the one that's lighting the stadium up it's Dalman so you take him off who I thought I thought was wrong anyway but then bring Dalman on and that something about that kid he's even playing well but it's something about that kid there if you're looking at that it's like something written in the stars for him to come on sooner or later and score again and get him over the line it's just written in the stars with that boy it's a show of a bit of intent he should have took Rice or Zubomendy off yeah just go for goal as you said when you're looking at the game thinking Eze is playing well Eze is having a big influence in the game I would have thought the other players would have been thinking that's a strange one have you ever been on pitch when that's happened where one of your teammates have been playing really well and then the gaffer two come off and you're going what the fuck's he doing no who's just thinking that when I got brought up I wasn't fucking doing like I'm playing really well here but no it is a strange one it is a strange one it's really strange as former players as well one of the things where I thought it were going to be Arsenal's day yesterday is that first goal which will get onto Turkey unbelievable but like within I think it was like less than a minute or there are thereabouts they get that equaliser by sheer tenacity how do you feel when they get an equaliser as quick as that and do you kind of go oh we're bollocks because you've not even got a chance enjoy that moment have you no it's yeah it's hard to take that you know when you've just got in the lead in such a big game and probably a bit of their own making wasn't it throwing it back to your keeper in the first place ridiculous well if we'd have done that we'd have been killed honestly just throw up the line just throw it as far why did he do that Has he been told?
18:16It's the way they play football. Yeah, probably. That's the way City do it, don't they? Look, it's a different way than we'd probably do it. But that's the way they do it. And Don and Roma got caught, didn't they? He got caught. He's not great with his feet anyway, Don and Roma. That's what I know.
18:27Nicky:That's so-called why Enrique got rid of him, wasn't it, at PSG? Because he's not. He wants something better with his feet. However, you put that one mistake down, which he was a mistake. You probably don't agree with it. I think he's just clearing it first time. First mistake, throwing it back. Second mistake, try to take it across your body. Kick it with your wrong foot. right foot clear it down line goes out for a throw in their half they're all defensive it's fine anyway but he's saved them more times than that he made two greats he were down and he jumps up and you didn't really see it on the replay and he gets his hand to that second one and of course Cozzi mentioned it about three or four weeks ago I'll talk about obviously Silva's phenomenal Highland but I'm telling you he said it a while ago Donnarumma will win in the league if they're going to win in the league it'll be because of him I'm telling you now that was a big sign I thought I I said that at the beginning of this season of podcast.
19:14No, no. I think if you rewind it, I did say that. Scholesy was the one who I said, does Donna Rummer win on the league? And he went, no. Because that's the only thing I've fucking got right on this. Don't take that off me. Well, that and nice biscuits. Are you sure about that? I did. I said to you, I said, does Donna Rummer win on the league? And you said no.
19:32Nicky:You might have said that, but he definitely said it. Please, someone clip that up and find it for me. Please. I'm not saying you didn't say it. I'm saying he'd said it as well so I might you might have said it along the fucking Neese biscuit no but he said no he doesn't win him the league why are you being so aggressive do you know what it is I think it's him before we started today I saw him and I had sunglasses and I got a white t-shirt it's sunny outside it's not that fucking sunny I was getting him a coffee and all of a sudden I felt myself getting tired gotta be honest gotta be honest I had a bit of road rage this morning I can't really get into it but I had a bit of road rage this morning what happened just fucking idiot So I'm going down the road.
20:11Nicky:Motorway? No, on a dual carriage. I'm inside. What a dual carriage. It's a road not far from here. A road. There's a parked car here. So I'm indicating to come out. It's come out. I've got a tit going out the outside of me here. So I'm leveled like this. So I'm waiting for him to flash me so I can pull out. Because I'm thinking, if I go out, he's hitting me. Anyway. He's a little bit behind you. Yeah, halfway. He's on my... You've seen a car parked up your own. I need to get out. You put your indicator on. Indicator on. And I'm out of the pull out. And he's... next minute you're like you think whoa whoa I'm sweating back in so then anyway he's pulled back so I pulled out gets it lights and he winds his window down and I'm like I don't need this so literally it's like half nine I'm going just give me a coffee get my paddies paddy's waiting for me for a coffee here now waiting for me to pay again waiting for me to pay again anyway when I went down I've gone what's up he's gone and I went mate calm down I said I was trying to move out you said calm down I did I said calm down I said I'm trying to move out he's gone I reckon this is the other way around he's gone no no he's gone to me I'm fucking I'm bibbing you to go out I went who the fuck bibs to go out you don't be flashed to go out don't you no one you flash you'd be very proud of me I went put your wind up mate enjoy your fucking day and that was it so that's why enjoy your fucking day that's why that's why that's the truth that's the truth and then I like how he's put a fucking in the enjoy your fucking day and then and then come and get me a coffee with your paddy and all's great he's got his wrench everything he's fucking following he's stalking him I've got to say right the there's no rule on this because really if you follow the highway code flashing or beeping you don't do either but everyone knows you don't bib someone to get out I'm saying everyone knows it's a flash you've got to be careful lads you might meet someone and stab you or something do you know what I mean fucking hell that's too concerned for the wuss where's that come from Jesus Christ someone might have a gun in his car or something what are they going to stab you with a gun also can I just say I wasn't involved in this it's him who was in the road I'm just saying about you know you see things on I'm not telling him pull over and offer him out like he get fucking pull over I don't do that no I actually don't do that because that pisses me off when someone wants to get a fucking fight for a role it's like as I said Paddy put your window up enjoy your day I'm going to see Patrick at the coffee shop come on move on right where were we oh yeah City Arsenal fucking when when when Cherky goes through and scores that first goal and I've got to say again we talk about maverick footballers don't we he's got to be up there hasn't he of course he has brilliant he does a bit of everything doesn't he just the way he received the ball what is he 22 two footed natural ability is phenomenal no the natural pure talent is phenomenal you know you're not going to put him in the Premier Leagues all time just yet but his pure natural ability is someone you want to go and play and watch.
23:04Nicky:He lights it up. You can see him in a five-a-side on the red wreck down the road. He'd be brilliant. You go and watch him on a local pitch or on a biggest game in the Premier League like yesterday. He's just a fantastic player. You two are both involved with coaching. When you see a player like that, what do you do with him? Just don't coach him. But do you know, at the beginning where Pep used to be like, head in hands and all that carry on. He'd still be like that at times. Pep would get to the point where he'd be like, I'll try and give him two or three little messages because if I give him any more, is just going to go like that he's just a boy that you give him the ball and go and play and the rest of them have got to get around him and make sure the positional sense is right and make sure you maybe have to double up for him a little bit but when he does what he did yesterday for that goal you allow that because they're the ones that win your game and they get you over the line we've said on it before that he's so far away from a Pep player maybe Pep's changed I don't know because you think of Pep's Pep's teams and what he's had over the years he obviously had Messi who could probably do what he wants maybe one player per team that can do what they want on a football pitch and maybe this is his look I couldn't say what position he played but do you know something for me he picks the ball up everywhere obviously Pep's Pep genius I think if he would have been in Pep's teams five or six years ago with De Bruyne and all his De Silva and all his great I don't think he'd play but I think Pep's realised that his team needs one or two that can go and win him a game because they've not got that great team that they used to have even though they're looking like they could win the league I think five or six years ago, Cherky doesn't get in one of Pep's teams.
24:33I think that's a big difference between the two teams, City and Arsenal, that City have got four or five that can go and win you a game. Do you think that was one of the things where obviously it didn't quite work out for Grealish at City and he's a Maverick player as well. Do you think Pep's learned a little bit because obviously he might have been on at Grealish all the time saying, don't do that, do this. And now Cherky's come and he's kind of gone, do you know what? If you can't beat them, join them. yeah I think Cherk is different to Grealish don't get me wrong Jack probably looked like a Maverick rather than played like one if you know I mean because you think about he was always on that left hand side he was always in the same position he always seemed to do the same things where this lad is a proper Maverick he does what he wants on a football pitch you've got to have a manager who believes and as Nicky said there's got to be ways round it to allow you to have that type of play the other players have got to be disciplined at some point like you've got your rod rent you've got your banana silver and that's a great base for him to
25:31Nicky:go and do what he wants i think also it's a bit of a needs must as well you know if jack was coming off the side and going all over the show pep might be thinking well i'll just drop him and get somebody else because we've got loads of players yeah but i think over the last six months pep was thought our team nowhere near what it was he always pepsi even said himself he think he thought next year or the year after it'd be a good team but right now in november december he was talking going you know we're not really that not really the area so he might have let cheeky get away of a lot more than he would have Jack back in, what, Jack, three years ago when he signed?
26:00Nicky:Was it three years ago he signed? Well, you know, you look at Arslan City, two good squads, two good teams, but do you go, when you were saying about Cherky, as brilliant as he is, someone you said a moment ago, then you've got Silva. And you go, oh. They have a bit of everything. Well, Silva's like, yeah. Talking about big game players. Yeah. He's done it for years and years and years now, and yesterday again taking a game by the scruff of neck and just the size of him as well yeah and he's just like boxing head it's the same as David Silva they're both just unbelievable players both same stature both the same kind of technical ability and both geniuses like really you look at him it's like Paddy so you look at him you think how can you play in the Premier League do you know what I mean it's all physicality he's probably about nine stone he's tiny but what he does he controls it's just brilliant he's a nasty fucker as well yeah he's got a bit about it which you need you need that I think he's brilliant in big teams you need the ultimate team players he does everything for his team when he was coming deep and picking the ball even me just watching as a neutral and really enjoying the game I'm going fuck's sake get rid of it but he doesn't he's just dead calm he'll just go and he's like Arsenal players and he'll just go through he does absolutely everything doesn't he sometimes he's the first man pressing the centre halves the other time like you said He's in between.
27:26What he does for that team is incredible. I don't notice it when I'm watching, but do you think he's one of these who's always on to his teammates as well and telling them where to go and dictating that, or is he just doing it all with his feet? No, probably all with his feet and his mind. It doesn't look a massive talker to me. Maybe he's in the dressing room, I don't know. I think he leads by example more than anything.
27:48Nicky:I think what City have got, what Arsenal haven't, is they've got a lot of leaders. So if you look at the Rodri, the David Silva, the goalkeeper, you know, even Highland up top and they've got a lot of people that will lead that football team and for me with Arsenal, looking at Arsenal, you've probably only got Declan Rice, who again, for me, isn't one that'll go, get here, do that, he just looks like he's a real top, top footballer. And Saka's a big miss as well. They've got a lot of misses and you know, I just feel me when you look at both their... What, what? Got a lot of misses. What did I say?
Read the full transcript
28:19Nicky:Got a lot of misses. You've got a lot missing. But literally, if you look at their their squad and their squad there's a lot more leaders in Man City squad than in Arsenal squad as good as we know Declan Rice is he's yet to show that he can get the game like Bernardo Silva did yesterday and actually say come on I'm going to attack our team like we had people like Roy Keane when he first came through Brian Robson Paul Inns Declan's a brilliant player but he's not quite done I think he will do don't get me wrong yeah Fierras Petit I think he will do don't get me wrong but as Nicky said when you talk about leaders at Arsenal now look behind closed doors they may be but on the football pitch at the minute Declan Rice Zubamendi who you'd expect in that position doesn't look like a leader Gabriel's too emotional you see him he could have missed enough so emotional compared to past seasons where they've been runner up Arsenal nearly nearly done it but not quite do you think this particular one because they were so far ahead not that long ago I think nine points in the lead a little bit worse yeah do you think it's the then there's no coming back from that then, psychologically, for another few seasons.
29:27Nicky:Listen, it'll be devastation for Artes if he doesn't win it and the fans, but they're still in the semi-final of the Champions League. They could either go on and win the Champions League. I'm not saying they will, but they could. They could still win the league. They could still win the league. So, there's a lot of, oh, we told you so, the bottle in it, whatever we all want to say or other people want to say, they are still top of the table in the Champions League semi-final. Every other football club in the world would take that right now. So, let's not get too down on Arsenal as supporters or public or media or whoever it might be.
29:57Nicky:We just say how I feel. I think City will win it because of the experience that they've got, the minds they've got and the players that I've got. I might be wrong and if I am wrong, well done to Arsenal, I'll applaud them but they're in the semi-final of the Champions League. That might go against them in the league or for them. I believe it'll go for them if they get the right result because when you get the ball rolling, you become, when you're winning scores at this time of year, it just keeps... Well, we said it last week, momentum. and then two couple games Arsenal lost it and against Bournemouth yeah but you're going to change after you're winning and winning and winning and you won't remember most of the game you just go just easy I don't really know what happened how did you score that goal scores I don't know I just did what I did as well you can't really complain about being in firing competitions can you you can't say I've got too many games because if you're a top club that's what you've got to do if you're a top club you're going to play 60, 70 games that's the way it is just were you mentioning Gabriel there are a few things when I'm watching the game I say firstly and I've not really seen a lot of people talking about this but you know when they were saying is it a handball is it a penalty it's him here yeah yeah right now you think it was only because he leaned into it did he say it hit his shoulder it looked like it reared to me yeah what's that thing with the shirt sleeve it's all yeah I don't know no but it was the lean yeah it was the lean for me I think if he scores and obviously with the Harland thing which again me being a little bit old school I quite like that I think it's a fucking disgrace what is what is I think listen what is headbutt doing the headbutt well you never headbutt no no listen I'm not saying that I'm not saying you nearly said then no we've all done that no you all make mistakes I'm saying Harlem was brilliant not going down yeah that's what I'm saying however as the rules of the lot so Marta's got done for the little tiny little tickle yeah which is ridiculous that's ridiculous so basically the referee should look at that and VAR should look at it and go it's a headbutt so if if Gabriel is it a headbutt no it's not a headbutt it's a shove it's a shove it's not right it's not right if your momentum if your momentum goes forward into somebody but they're already both touching heads yeah but he's gone like that he's gone like that you can't say he didn't he didn't just touch heads and stand there he's gone like that no I agree so for me the letter of love and it's not even about that it's about the next games that are coming when he's playing if he's man of the match in the next two games or he's scored a header and scores a header header or even next game scores a header or makes an unbelievable tackle and City don't go on and win it and I'm Pep Guardiola I'm going absolutely You don't want to see him banned for the next three games I don't like it but I'm saying the rules are a lot so the rules are like ah that it's like when you take your shirt off and wave it around it's ridiculous but you get a yellow card Harlan did great for him Harlan did brilliant brilliant for him but Harlan started it as well but for me it's like when you're going through do you know if you go for it that's wise me up if you're going in the box and scores he goes in the box and dribbles through or Cherky yesterday and someone tackles him bad tackle he doesn't go down it doesn't mean to say it's not a penalty the referee if he won't go the referees don't like people diving but now they don't give it when he's standing up so they're making the next person so if you're Pep and you lose this lead because Gabriel plays Man at Match next game example I know I'm hypothetical you're telling Haaland why didn't you go down so they're encouraging people to go down and not cheat but act a little bit so if you're going through on penalty and someone texts you clean out and you keep your feet.
33:18Nicky:He got bollocks in an FA Cup final against Everton when he was 19 for not going down. Remember? Who was that? Against Everton's goals and he went mad for not going down. Really? I wouldn't have thought that. So he got bollocks for that for not going down. So the referee, and I'm going on a little bit here, if the referee doesn't just say, well done Harlan, you didn't go down, you didn't make a fanny of yourself and it's a very good spot. However, that's a red card, get off. Then you're going to encourage people to go down in the area or go down when someone touches you with the head because the referees aren't doing a job I think he should have been sent off for that regardless of whether Highland goes down or not motion forward so he's on the referee then but yeah 100 % why is VAR not saying it because if you're Martínez now sat at home suspended for three games for what he did he's going how the fuck is that not working it's an absolute joke I agree I also agree listening to commentary after the game I agree with everyone saying it's great to see it's great that they're not going to cheat it's great that you're looking after your own fashion and it's great that they've had a real tough battle and no one's pussying out and crying and diving around, brilliant however, the referee can't referee he's got a referee to the law of the game and he's not do you think the referee because everyone knew the magnitude of that game, do you think that referee has thought to himself, I can't give a ready error it caused murders The referee has used common sense and well done to him.
34:48Nicky:However, the people that are above him in the VAR, in one game they go, stop the game in his ear, go and look at the TV and look what Martinez did there. Now, why is he not saying, stop the game, go and look at that TV and look at this headbutt or potential headbutt? At least do that because that's what it is. And again, I'm not sitting here going, send him off. I hate people getting sent off, but it's a sending off. Do you know when you talk about Mavericks as well and you have an idea of these like a Cherky but do you know what he Alan's a bit of a maverick he is like you know after the game when the camera's there and he's looking he's singing he's like that and you're going oh this is what we want yeah it's a character it's what we need it's entertaining and I quite liked when Cherky scored he went to Arsenal fans just stood there like that and I'm like going oh my god you'll be remember when Eric did that at Leeds so he just left Leeds well not just but he'd left Leeds obviously an ex-Leeds player and he missed the penalty missed the penalty at the Leeds end and I'll tell you something about him as well at the Leeds end and he missed it he was getting loads of stick and then scored a little bit later and went straight there like that and looked at the fans I mean these bottles going on and all that and a little 16 year old Paul scores that was 16 or 17 remember the penalty shootout at Leeds Leeds scored by the way FAU Cup final it was about 30 ,000 I don't think it was the penalty shootout it was in the game was it a penalty in the game straight up like that and we got beat that's going to be worse isn't it when you're giving it one of them and then you lose you're like oh I'll get me caught pick it right chaps that prize guys back for another week with a couple of draws for you you can enter to win either a Lamborghini Huracan or £100 ,000 cash that's for £49 so you can pick either or my advice go for the Lamborghini sell it sell it for more than £100 ,000 there we go if you win the draw you get the choice of which you can pick as I've just said if you had 100 grand now on the table and you're not thinking sensible we're not we're not going mortgages and this and the other kids schools we're talking just absolutely pissing up the wall what you're doing with 100 grand you have to spend it by the end of the day oh I do that oh yeah yeah well easily this day go for a night out in London fucking be gone 100 grand I was thinking of a holiday but you don't mean that I was going to go to America play the best golf courses in America oh that would be good wouldn't it fly first class everywhere first class first class pay for a show for the other cent Augusta Pebble Beach Pebble Beach don't need to have enough money yeah it's probably about 10 grand around there isn't it no it's not it wouldn't be that bad really I think it would be flying a bit of buy all new golf gear new set of clubs yeah Or get an electric trolley.
37:42It's fucking clubhouse watching here. It's gym watching. And every week, get nothing. I like that. That's a good one, that. It's not by the end of the day sort of shout, but I thought, no, I like that. First class flights, play every top golf course in the States and come back with a lovely tan. What's yours?
38:03Nicky:I'd buy you, you and me. You'd buy me? A Rolex watch with one year GBF on the back. would you fuck that's what I'd do would you fuck he's like the Drogba of the podcast world that's what Drogba did when they won the Champions League he bought them all a watch all the Chelsea lads and I'd like that because I'm on fucking Tudor because I'm not I never used to play I never used to play Premier League football lads Beck's sponsored by Tudor isn't he well fucking give him a shout for me it's alright you've got one that's what I do that's what I do buys all the watch free of my son do you know what I told you he's a lover even though I know that is a bare face lie it's made me feel right I still have£30 left you're only getting a£10 one yeah what are you getting one of them I'm like oh fucking leave it you may get fake ones yeah I don't know what I do I have no idea something like that I like that something like that I'd keep I'd blown a lot of fucking stupid dollars and stuff so I'd definitely buy something like we could keep I'm looking forward to yours buddy no do you know what I'd do you've piqued my interest with a golf I'd probably buy and kit out a garage with a full state-of-the-art golf sim.
39:13And I mean, and I get all the room done, proper padded, big screens. Bar. Yeah, like a bar for when lads are over. Fucking Paul in the... I think you'd have a bit of change. Paul or Paul? Do you reckon? Paul or Paul? That is a Paul. You don't go pole dancing, do you? Hey, lads, shall we go to a pole dancing bar tonight? Fucking hell. yeah no I think I think you could easily do 100 grand if you went and a real you know like with proper mahogany top and a bit of brass that's not a bit of brass with your bowl you need more 100 grand anyhow I've got to say I love the watches and I love the holiday and I think the golf scene that's three good shouts for 100 grand that isn't it really or we could all just go Amsterdam and do it in an afternoon right talking of 100 ,000 pounds this is good than this who was the first British player to be sold for£100 ,000 Kevin Keegan no no he won the Ballon d 'Or as well
40:23Nicky:yeah oh yes Man United yeah Dennis Law yeah and City obviously scored for City against you Les that's what's said you down isn't it we don't talk about that do you know just I know Eric Kane's name and maybe June Bellingham, but who do we think will be the actual next British player to win a Ballon d 'Or? Champions League will be a big decider. If Bayern Munich win it, Eric Kane, all day long. Great chance, yeah. If Bayern Munich win it. Mbappe, this time? This time? No, he won't win it this time. You don't think? No, he's just been knocked out in the semi-finals, no chance. Oh yeah, that's true, yeah.
40:59When do they actually do it? The World Cup will have a big save, won't it? Right, you lot, what do you reckon? Eric Cain, Ballon d 'Or, do you think he'll get it this season? And do you think it's deserved? Or who else do you think? British players. So to enter the prize draw, a Lambo or£100 ,000, you know where to go, thatprizeguide.co.uk. 42:32To pick a side. A participating McDonald's while supplies last. I mean, a great result. 1-0 against Chelsea. And I think, looking at that United team and the difficulties they've got with people out at the back, I think I weren't on my own now. We're expecting Chelsea to win now. I thought, well, it was close, wasn't it? I was expecting a draw, maybe. But that's a brilliant win for United. absolutely outstanding look Chelsea are struggling don't get me wrong but with that back four back three whatever he did look we did it years ago I remember we had centre halves out at Rio Vidic and I think we had Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher at centre halves at one point and sometimes it's not a bad thing it galvanises everyone it brings everyone to the earth come on we've got to do this properly now we don't really want the ball getting that into that position but funnily enough Aidan Evan I thought was really good he was the only centre back available Matt Cobb was
43:33Nicky:brilliant I thought he was very good Bruno was very good I know yeah it's I don't know the exact stats I've not got on here but I think was that the only shot United had on goal the goal I don't know something like that they weren't but Chelsea had a few chances didn't they good goal well they're always going to get chances they're at home Chelsea's a big club big team good players I think the result whether they had one shot or goal I think how they got together with the lack of defenders like Scully said and you said a minute ago is they got together and they said we're going to win this game we're not going to lose this game because they knew that they don't lose more points and they're getting close to their target I just think it is a tough place to go anywhere away from Man United to go away from home anywhere on a Saturday night when they'll crowd her up it's tough I don't think it's a tough place to go anymore is it?
44:23they've not scored a goal for four games Look at this for a stat though United away games it's the first time they've beaten Liverpool Arsenal and Chelsea in the same season since 1986. Incredible. When I read that, I thought, Jesus, we never did it. It's got to surely know Michael Carrick. It's got to be a done deal, that, hasn't it? Third? Yeah. Champions League? Look, I think it's important that you don't get too carried away, too emotional with it, don't you think? Looking at the Leeds game last week, you won't be thinking that then, would you? Because I was looking at Michael and I was worried for him to be honest because they were getting outplayed by Leeds I thought Michael come on please change something do something at that time it didn't do it obviously they lost the game and they're sending off didn't help with that and then they go there and like you say on Saturday night and brilliant win and you think yeah give them the job give them the job but they're a bad team Paddy Chelsea are a bad team they've got some
45:17Nicky:good individual players what is that club at the minute what are they trying to achieve that football club I don't get it I don't get it young players I don't get the signings 24 year contracts I don't know what's going on don't get the signings to make Rossini is obviously a very good coach but is he ready to manage a big club like that I feel he has a sense about when he does interviews it's a little bit like clutching at straws and all that with some of the things he's saying and do you know looking at that team it's a weird one isn't it Chelsea because I used to like watching them back in the day but now I look at them it feels like do you say it they're all individuals aren't they it's easy for us to sit here and have a go recruitment strategies and I don't know that football club at all so you'd have to speak to somebody who's close to but it looks from an outsider a far away outsider in me it's like their recruitment team can't be right you can't go and sign that many individual players there's no team players they're not signing any team players I think it depends what they want we don't know when you look at them you think they're signing young players putting them on eight year contracts do they want to sign them they can't compete do they want to win a league do they want to win trophies you're not going to do that unless you've got a sprinkling of experience they haven't got anything and they don't seem to go in and get the top players they get the young up and coming ones at like 30, 40, 50 million quid and they put them on long contracts so if they do get to the next level then they go and get sold for 80, 90, 100 however if they've got to get to that next level they shouldn't be ready for Chelsea because Chelsea are a big football team that should be challenging so the level that they're at 30, 40, 50 million quid it's not the next level for them to go and compete and challenge for trophies so they're they're gambling that a guy Nacho can see the picture there or whoever they're going to buy for 30, 40, 50 million quid will get to the next level then they're going to be worth a lot more money to the club but by that time if you're a manager you've probably got what, 18 months to try and do something?
47:11There's no way he's getting 18 months. No, that's what I'm saying. I was thinking imagine being a Chelsea fan and the success you've had over the years with Mourinho, Giancelotti these big name managers But you look at the signings you used to go and buy. Tuchols and you're thinking
47:24Nicky:Go look at the signings they bought. They must be thinking what are we trying to do now? Is our team trying to win stuff? We go and get a manager from Strasbourg who eventually might be a top class but he's not a Chelsea manager now. No, but that's the consortium then, isn't it? What are they trying to achieve? I don't know. It's like a business decision. I don't know what it is. I think they're buying younger players that are obviously good players but at a level that they can reach a next level to be worth£18,£90,£100 million and sell them on or keep them and win stuff. But you've got to wait to...
47:55Nicky:That's not Chelsea, is it? He's still been crap since he's gone to Chelsea, right? But even if he went in and started to do it, it's going to take him three years to get to the level that's going to be that level, like the elite level of the Premier League footballers. So, what mind you going to get three years to wait to get them there to then go and challenge? It just doesn't make sense. Unless you give Resinia a guaranteed five year, which no one gets, you stay in here five years, it doesn't matter if you're battling for survival in the Premier League, in three years time we're going to challenge because the young players that are buying are going to get to that level and give them time to get there.
48:25Nicky:no one can get there so I don't know the plan Is it hard for someone like Rossini because he's obviously gone into a job you're not going to say no to it are you but he's do you think knowing you've got the job because and I don't it sounds bad saying not on merit but because of the business model they've got there and because of the ties they've got with that club do you think like coming in as a manager going well I've not got the job because I've been winning titles and I've not bought these players He's got the job because he's done a very, very good job at their other club. So he's obviously very good at coaching.
49:00Nicky:He's very, from what I can, I know about him and hear about him, he's tactically very good on the grass. He's a good coach, but that's a total different football club to Chelsea football club. So that is a massive leap. And if we're honest, he's not been helped out with the squad that he's got. Now, I don't think he's helped himself out with some of the stuff he's come out with in interviews and stuff, but it's one of them ones you said, like Paddy, when he took the job because you can't turn it a big club it's like when Graham Potter went along he cannot turn that club down however he's got sacked he's got paid off and he's kept his career going somewhere else I think that's what will happen we'll see him he'll get sacked he'll get a payoff and he'll go and get a job somewhere else very easily because he's got credentials and he's done well to a certain level I think the recruitment side of it though you talk about players I think the managers it's probably the same type of stuff because a lot of young players I think they've done the same with the manager because they've seen obviously he's done very well in Strasbourg as well as Nicky says it's a completely different world struggle towards Chelsea because seeing sort of a lot of the Chelsea fans talking about when they signed Gibra Senior the job I didn't see it that many going brilliant no what a manager no well he's not proving in Premier League it's a gamble big gamble I mean when Potter did it he proved himself in Premier League obviously it's not to the level that Chelsea would want like winning stuff but he's a very good coach and he proved yourself as a Premier League manager whoever's doing the type of job he's doing now whether it was Tuchel or Ancelotti or Marine League great he's still be under pressure now Chelsea haven't scored a goal in four league games well talking of goals and what have you at Chelsea one of your ex-players guy Nacho what now he's left United under a cloud he's gone to Chelsea great song though isn't it it's a great song isn't it the only saving grace for him is he probably might not fully understand the song when they're singing it oh he will oh he will do you reckon oh he does 100 % oh he does oh yeah we'll definitely know that when he's being sung and he's getting the interesting thing about Garnaccio now I don't know you probably know a little bit more about him than even Scoles if we've been in and around United at that time it's interesting seeing United players like Luke Shaw he did that post where he's like Gnaccio's practically on the floor and he's over him he's pushing him down when I see that because if you've got a mate who's gone to another club he's still your mate isn't he I'm going but it's how you leave Paddy it's how you do it that's what I'm saying it's how you do it what was the vibe with him at United when he signed he signed at 16 and I was carrying my manager at the time when he signed in a deal and he also brought in Alvaro what's his second name the left back the left back is that Real Madrid now both come in both Spanish boys the families were really lovely you're thinking right Alve got into the football club and really got himself into the language the way of life and the culture and just really good Garnetjoe was always a bit standoffish a little bit like I should be playing I should be doing this he was loving himself yeah exactly had a high opinion of himself and I think that is that just you know being Argentinian Maradona all that culture there's nothing wrong with that sometimes we brought Uruguay as well Varela who plays with Uruguay now lovely lad great player but I just thought you had an edge about him and what happened then when he went into Man United's first team and I will say what I think because I was there looking at it he got above his station way too quick he got like he got a superstar status well too quick and that's not me an old player going oh they get paid this I hope young players get paid millions I'm not one of them ones that go oh they get too much money but he got superstar status so quickly and obviously scored the bicycle kick which was a phenomenal goal and then it went like that someone within that football club within that team should have been swatting him down they might have been and he might have just ignored him but the best thing for me that Man United did was sell him because forget his ability I don't think he's that great anyway however his attitude for me was a disgrace when he was at Man United and more importantly when he left and that is why that happens when people post things like that because if you're changing rooms and you leave and you completely disrespect your teammates and the football club that's it from the outside looking in like I said I don't know him Nicky knew him the impression I got was the only person Garnatio cared about was Garnatio then you look at these other people they talk about Ben and Adel Silva and stuff in the city so Amerind got something right then at United That was a great show.
53:51I don't know this for fact,
53:53Nicky:but I think it's common knowledge that he told him in the last game of the season that you go and find yourself a new football club. If you manage, he's saying that to you in the final game. I think it was the European Cup. Am I right in saying that? Yeah, the Europa League. Europa League final. But again, we talk about leaders all the time. Probably wasn't any at United. If he had come into our team, it would have been a different story. Yeah. He might still be there. He might be flying now, but he would have been under control. taken out every single day in training yeah with a control yeah it had been put in his place very quickly with the likes of the players that we got brought what do you mean taken out as a new challenge yeah everything swatted down taken out it had been I sound like a dick saying this but he would have been treated really badly if he behaved but he'd have learnt from it he'd have learnt from it and gotten better yeah and it he just he can't he can't be I can't remember how old he was he might have been 21 when he left the football club I don't know what he was you can't be that up your own backside thinking you're as big or bigger than Man United he said himself on an interview the other week I watched it I thought I should have been playing every game I thought I got left out I thought I should have been playing I'm like number one you wasn't that good number two you're a young player be humble be more humble like that I think that was his big problem it's all like sitting on the sides when he scores a goal I just don't think he was ever controlled by anyone and like I say if he'd go back to our day it would have been like it was Cristiano Cristiano at times needed telling his mum and dad lovely people really got into the community I don't know you were saying about his mum and dad being lovely but it seems like his brother has a big influence on him as well and his brother comes across as just a little bit like not the best for him a one-cut from Argentina it is quite easy it is quite easy to hide away with yourself and that's on the people that are in the changing rooms so stop him doing that so the score is quite right I think there's a bit of a failure within the squad at the time, not swatting them down.
55:51Nicky:I'm sure they tried. But if you say that at United, then he goes to a Chelsea that's even more disjointed than United. I was just going to say that, yeah. Well, what's he got at Chelsea? That lad, he's going to go off the rails again. Yeah. If he's not already. Because he's not playing now, is he? I don't see how... Where can he go there? Well, the only... When you look at them Chelsea players, maybe like a Cucurella could step up a little bit as a senior player. and he's always in and out injury at the back Rhys James but Paddy if you're out balanced Rhys James looks very quiet if you're out balanced that you've got more of that style of player young, flash think they're Ronaldo right now you've got more of that player and less of the good pros it's harder to control that way every change in my opinion pretty much all of them was real hard core proper professional footballers men who would not let you step out of line I wouldn't worry about him that much because he just plays for himself anyway Chelsea have given £40 million for him if he goes on the market at the end of the season what do you think they'd get for him Chelsea if they sold him depends who to he's not going to be £40 million is he again they've got to take a bath on him do you think they'd be lucky if they got£30 million how old is he though he's only 21 still isn't he it doesn't matter how old you if you're not doing it I know yeah but someone still might take a chance of him hoping that one day he grows up £40 million do you think he's that good score is it no well I think he's alright I think he is a threat do you know what he is do you know what he was good in the United the United team were really struggling but he was their biggest threat for a long time do you know what he is I don't know if that's why because it weren't a great team he's very mentally strong yeah and he'll get the ball and he'll just short you yeah he'll have belief well to behave like he's behaved he thinks he's the next Ronaldo yeah right so when he got that ball at Man United he went at them and Man United fans love people attacking people he went at them and out of 10 and he might lose five and then get past two and then get a good cross in the last three.
57:51Nicky:Example, we had a lad there called Anthony Alanga. I thought Alanga was a better player than him, a much better player than Garnaccio with talent. But what Anthony would do as a younger, he's different now, he's got a bit older, but when he's younger and he'll say that to yourself, if he went at Scholesy at right back, example, and lost the first three, he wouldn't do it again. He'd go, I'm not losing another one because I don't want to give the ball away, I don't want the fans getting him back. That's when he's younger, he's a different player now at Newcastle whereas Garn actually had that mentality of a South American just I'm just going to keep going I'm going to keep going I'm going to keep going and that is his biggest strength he's got massive massive belief in himself and that's why every now and again he'll do something unbelievable like the overhead kick like a couple of goals he scored at Man United where he just went at three or four because if you try it ten, eleven times it's going to come off once or twice he's my biggest hating football not him but that type who can be brilliant all the time are just interested in themselves and he couldn't say that at a better time than this weekend when you watch Bernardo Silva yeah exactly he's only interested in himself he doesn't care about his teammates he doesn't care about his team if he comes off scores a goal and gets beat 8-1 he's happy you hope though he's a young kid who's made a few mistakes and he'll learn and in two years time he'll go massive fuck up that's what we're saying at Chelsea I don't think the characters are there and I don't think the manager's got the stature in the game to control him either when you think about players like him you know who've got the potential I know he's still young and he could I'll work out for him but can you think of any players that remind you a guy natural you go do you know where they should go go natural what Atletico Madrid that'll be the only place that'll sort him out because of the gaffer though yeah they wouldn't take him they'll just see his character and go not for me no but I I think he's that type of signing for them because they're not buying players well they did buy players for 100 million but I think they're like a 30-40 million club young players and they'll think Simeone can control anyone and if he can't control him yeah nobody can if someone comes in in the summer and says we'll give you 40 million quid for him so you're breaking even are you selling him or are you going to go bring in a new manager and see if you can get that potential out of it 100 % sell because it's not a fit it's not a fit do you think Chelsea fans want him out Chelsea now seems like it yeah 100 % want him out but the balance is all wrong with that football club it looks all wrong when again I'm an outsider I don't know it but it's all young players that have not got to the level where they need to be so they've got to somehow go unless he's doing really well in training he's a great lad and everything's worth you've got to balance it off it's just like you're buying young players that are just seems like they're controlling that football club and not performing and getting paid a lot of money that's coming from the top it's the way they're going about they want to go about it that way they need a bit of young Esteveau it looks like it could be absolutely Kai Sido who you'd probably say is the best player but he's don't know any Esteveau did he pick up an injury the other day yeah but you talk about Kai Sido we think he's like an old man he's not I know he's 22, 23 if that Talking Chelsea United a player here who's fair to say has had a little bit of struggle this season Cole Palmer he's linked to United what do you think about that when you're watching him he struggled of like big time I know he's had injuries and they played in the summer someone said he played the last three summers or something Maverick-ish I'd sign him tomorrow the only problem I'd say with signing him is where does he play he doesn't play instead of Bruno Fernandes now if Bruno Fernandes goes in the summer then yeah all day long do you think he is going in the summer by the way I think he'll be one of them that every single summer as at United he'll get linked with something the Saudi thing or something I think it'll come up again this summer if you could sign one Premier League player for United today who you're picking for next season
1:01:44can't believe I'm saying this Highland I think I'll go Declan Rice and I'll have slacked him off a little bit fucking hell that is a reversal no I think they need someone like Declan Rice
1:01:56Nicky:I just think Highland he's always a goal threat he scores your goals he can do nothing for 89 minutes to pop up and score a goal and looking at Man United's centre forwards you've got Cunha and Buemi I think Sensko will be alright I think yeah alright but that's not Man United gets goals alright I think he'll do okay I think he's a good support act but he's the only out and out forward you'd call a forward I just think they need a proper midfield player I agree I could have two and have midfielders as well but I would go for high on score goals which midfield player would you have Rice 100 % you know what I always think about when I got asked eight years ago and we were talking about who were you dreaming would you go and get Decker and Rice and we had Scott McTominay and I said you had Rice and Scott McTominay together and Bruno at the head of them, that is just like the ultimate midfield.
1:02:46Nicky:It would be the ultimate. You've got Rice just sitting in there dictating play. Scott box to box, Bruno floating about, creating, scoring. And Man United, that's the kind of target audience Man United should be looking at. They're still massive in the commercial market. They've still got massive revenue coming in. They can afford to pay big wages. Do you know what? That's what they should be looking at and they don't think out of the box. I heard Rio was doing something on his podcast on Instagram, it popped up. And he was saying, talk about managers, give Michael a job, you know, like he does, he gets a bit emotional, Rio, doesn't he?
1:03:23And he was saying, someone please suggest to me who United could go for that's realistic. As a manager? Yeah, a manager or a player. Everyone's realistic for Man United.
1:03:35Nicky:Everyone should be realistic. It isn't realistic to go to a Man United, be a Man United. Does that show you how much they've dropped off if Real's saying something like that? Yeah, possibly. But I don't believe it, though. Anyone's possible. If you look back at the heyday of Man United, and even just towards the end of Saraitis, when he was coming to his end, the best player in the Premier League that wasn't at Man United, or Liverpool, let's say, or an Arsenal, who's your main rival you were not going to sell to, you'd always go and get the best player in the league, so you'd get a Berbatov, a Teddy Sheringham, you go and get the best put a Rio Ferdinand a Van Persie from Arsenal yeah I forgot about that we'd never do that now I don't know why we don't do it Man United can pay the highest wages in the whole of that football club they've got commercial revenue coming in inside out they're now going to be in the Champions League which means the commercial revenue is going to go up again the Man United the name the worldwide audience go and get the biggest names and you know what they can say no and move on to the next one just as a curveball as mad as it sounds Let's say Pep leaves City.
1:04:42They sign Ancelotti to take over at United. And he goes, I want Ireland. Money's no object. Do you think Ireland would actually sign after Pep's gone? There's no prizing him away from City, is there? So realistically then, you've said Rice and you've said Ireland and they're kind of like your dream ones. Realistically, who do you think they can get in those positions? midfield and centre forward well there's them three they talk about there's Elliot Anderson it's obviously that's reality they can do that Adam Wharton Wharton yeah he's another one there's another one Tonali I think Tonali's possible as well and what about you and don't get me wrong this is positions where United need strengthening they need centre half as well but are you not sort of answering Rio's question there by saying that because you picked three players there who you wouldn't say no you asked me that question yeah I'd still say everyone
1:05:38Nicky:I'd go and get I'd get Van der Ven at centre back Spurs? Is that what he's called the left footed centre back quick one from Spurs? I reckon he's got a Barcelona I'd go and get him I'd go and get him right now number one left footed centre back do you know when I say reality though there are some that like going from City to United not going from Liverpool to United I mean like in the world everywhere else you know what I mean but there's some stupid ones I'd go and buy any player away from City City in Liverpool Liverpool that's it well right there you have it we've had it all today and get any manager apart from sitting Liverpool football road rage and biscuits what more do you want none of this on the overlap let me tell you right that's it for today's The Good The Bad and The Football join us as always on all the usual channels YouTube Spotify and Apple or wherever you get your podcasts

Paul, Nicky and Paddy dive into Manchester City’s massive 2-1 win over Arsenal and what it means for the title race. Scholesy doesn’t hold back, arguing that Arsenal’s failure to deliver in the biggest moments has cost them yet again, while the lads debate where this title would rank for Pep Guardiola if City go all the way. There’s also praise for Bernardo Silva, who Paul believes was the standout player on the pitch, and a wider discussion about leadership, or the lack of it, in this Arsenal side. Nicky explains why Arsenal fans shouldn’t be too downbeat despite the result and he and Scholesey recall how momentum can affect a title race.
After Manchester United’s 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge. Paul questions what Chelsea are actually building, and the panel discuss how long Liam Rosenior might realistically have in the job. The conversation then shifts to Alejandro Garnacho, with Nicky giving an inside perspective from his time at the club and explaining why he believes selling him was the right call. Scholesy goes even further, questioning Garnacho’s mentality, and the lads debate how a player like him would have been received in their dressing room.
Paddy puts some big questions to the lads: how much Chelsea could get for Garnacho this summer? Would Cole Palmer fit in at Man Utd? Who is the one player each of them would sign this summer for United?
Plus, it wouldn’t be The Good, The Bad & The Football without a bit of an argument. Paddy reveals his top five biscuits, sparking a heated debate about you pronounce Nice biscuits, and Nicky shares a story about nearly getting caught up in road rage on the way to the studio. Enjoy your day!!
