1:53Paddy McGuinness:I went for a lot of trips to South Africa. Very nice. Always wanted to go. When I was kids, when I was younger, with football, but I had a nice little holiday there. It was very, very nice.

2:03Nicky Butt:Not work, pleasure? Pleasure. It's nice, isn't it, when you can do that in the middle of a... Did you play pool? That season. Didn't play pool, no.

2:09Paddy McGuinness:There's always one not bad at the start. That's why I can't have a serious conversation. Nelson wasn't there, wasn't it?

2:13Paul Scholes:Can't say anything. Took his pool cue and chock with him.

2:17Paddy McGuinness:No, it was lovely. I had a lovely, lovely little time. A lovely little case. A lovely little time. It was very nice.

2:22Paul Scholes:You never know when I might bump into him. I mean, be careful. Screw it together.

2:29Nicky Butt:Oh, God. Right. Well, let's get straight into it. This derby game, Spurs against Arsenal. Now, we'll talk about Arsenal's title chances in a sec. But a few weeks ago, we were talking on here about Topnam. There's no chance they'd go down. have your opinions changed on that now yeah

2:55Paul Scholes:they're in a bit of trouble aren't they I think at that time West Ham were West Ham really struggling they've picked up a little bit Forrest Forrest were away from it a little bit now they've obviously come back into it unlucky the other day against Liverpool as well yeah Liverpool yeah Liverpool went great I think Jamie Carragher said they got away with murder I think they did they were very lucky but yeah no I think they're right in trouble 10 games left they've got to go to Anfield I think they've got to go to Villa they've got to go to Chelsea Chelsea's the one I think it's the way the way they're doing it it's all the way they're playing you think yesterday when a new a new manager comes in the first thing he'd probably do try and make us hard to beat it was like the opposite

3:33Paddy McGuinness:it was so easy we said that about United when Carrick took over in the first game big game City you know Arsenal kind of games and you're thinking with Tottenham with a new manager coming in the game that they want is the big derby game at home stopping their big rivals going on and winning the title. That's perfect storyline, if you think. And they just quivered. They just died.

3:56Nicky Butt:And even though they're saying like, oh, there's 12 players out and obviously they are decimated with injuries, but still what you just said I think is true. You're going to give it everything,

4:05Paddy McGuinness:Look, if they get beat, it's what's expected. But it's the way you get beat and it's because when we play, it's the way, if you get beat and you get beat on the floor at the end of the game, you put a real shift in and you've just been beat by a better team, then the fans are like, It was just like Quibble and Rhett. They just died. It looked terrible yesterday. It looked so bad. If you're a Tottenham fan watching that, you're going home thinking we are in serious trouble.

4:27Paul Scholes:Do you know, I think the choice of manager they brought in, I know it's an interim, but he just doesn't know the Premier League. I was walking in there, Sam Allardyce is there. He's thinking that's just got him written all over it. Do you know what I mean? First thing he probably does as a club, when he goes into a team, stop us getting beat. So stop us conceding chances. He probably wouldn't care about the rest of it, about scoring goals because there's enough quality in that Tottenham team at some point to get you a goal or whether it's even a set piece but make us solid to beat I saw I think there was a stat throughout 40 minutes yesterday that Tottenham had touched the ball once in their penalty box and Arsenal had had like 24 touches did you see that?

5:08Paul Scholes:it's bonkers isn't it it's incredible and you're away from home as well it's incredible

5:11Nicky Butt:and as an interim manager as well you're there really you're a sticky plaster aren't you so like you just said about Big Sam you want someone who's just going to come in stop the bleeding yeah even though it might not be pretty yeah but this guy

5:23Paul Scholes:I know the lad's done it twice at big clubs at Juventus and Lazio as well I think in the same league he's done the same thing hasn't he on his interim and done really well but coming to the Premier League it's different

5:34Paddy McGuinness:he's obviously a very good coach but I think you bring an interim manager into that dynamic you just want someone to galvanise the changing rooms get everyone into a position where you want them running through walls for you sounds crazy but go and take them for a little trip away and get the come and adri back together and let them run, want to play together, want to run through brick walls for each other. I just don't see that manager doing that. I see that manager going and getting them on a coaching pitch, which you have to do, don't get me wrong, you've got a bit of coach as well. But first and foremost, you've got to galvanise that changing rooms and get them all together.

6:02Paul Scholes:Did you see his interview? It was intimating that they weren't fit enough yesterday. And did you see what happened?

6:08Nicky Butt:He's got a bit Conte already.

6:10Paul Scholes:He's only had one game. Did you see what happened two weeks ago though? No. When they sacked Thomas Fran, they gave the players five days off. who's they? Whoever's the sporting director I would have thought it would have been gave us five days off

6:25Nicky Butt:we're all everyone on beds

6:26Paddy McGuinness:five days off look that club has been in a bad place for a while hasn't it and if you look at what they've got around they're in big trouble if you look at what goes around the club the way the stadium has been built the money they bring in from match day revenue with NFL or whatever it is they're doing the training complex a massive club but no clubs too big to go I was at Newcastle when we went down that is a big club in my opinion and we was thinking towards about six seven games we're not going to go down I'm looking at her there there's Michael Owen Mark Varduka Damien Duff all these great players all over the show and then he brought Alan Shearer in towards the end as well and you're thinking we're not going to go down we're just too good to go down but there's no team too good to go down because once you lose that that togetherness once you lose that we need to stay up and die on that football pitch when you lose that it's really difficult to get it back it's really tough

7:18Nicky Butt:it's interesting just when you're saying that at your time at Newcastle so what were you looking around at them players now you could argue Spurs them players you just said then you forget about that haven't got that because everyone's injured at the minute but what are you when does it sink in as a player where you go oh actually we are going to go down like what happened at Newcastle you must have at some point I'm not on about the points on the board but as players you've gone we've had it

7:44Paddy McGuinness:No, I don't think you get to a point where you think that until it's obviously, it's happened. You always think that, you look at yourself first and foremost, and you think I'm not doing this right, I'm not playing well enough, am I doing everything in training right, am I living right, am I eating right, am I recovering right? You try and take all the boxes within yourself hoping that everybody else is doing the same thing and I'm pretty sure they would have been. But you get to a point when you're in a rut and it's in, you know, it's hard to get out of it. When you get in a rut, no matter who you've got and how good you are, it's really tough to get out of it and you're hoping that the players somewhere on the line will drag you out of it and it doesn't always happen and when it happened to me at Newcastle I don't mind saying I was part of the reason why I went down I weren't great you know for that season I didn't perform to my level that I should have done the rest of the lads didn't as well the managers got changed too often you know we can look at all these excuses but when we go on to a football pitch and there's 11 of us on that football pitch we should have beat most of the teams we were getting beat by so to answer the question Paddy I'm not ducking it honestly I don't know how we ended up there because you look at the it just didn't work and when you get to a rut to try and climb out of it like that it's so hard you're going away from home and you've got a travelling set of fans that are unbelievable and you still can't get a result I was just going to say that

9:00Nicky Butt:it's a massive club Newcastle great support they bring in Alan Shearer who's God up there and when I saw all that at the time I'm thinking they're not going down yeah but it he didn't have how many games

9:14Paul Scholes:did he have

9:15Nicky Butt:he didn't have loads of games I think it might have

9:17Paddy McGuinness:been 7, 6, 7 I don't think it was a lot

9:19Nicky Butt:but you still think with all that ingredients you think oh they'll be alright

9:22Paul Scholes:and the players Nicky mentioned there as well when you look back who was the other teams

9:27Nicky Butt:in and around it then in that relegation battle

9:30Paddy McGuinness:I can't remember I can't remember honestly I just remember us like we played Millersbury at home I think we drew or won I can't remember I mean thinking right we're out of it and you get dragged back into it then you get beat Villa away it was the final game we got beat there and I remember travelling back and I was retiring at the end of that season and I was thinking that's me doing I couldn't really get about the picture you know what it's like when you get to a point you think I'm embarrassing myself here and I was we flew all the way flew back up to Newcastle and then we had a meeting the next day and I just remember the effect that it had not on us in the sense of losing jobs because most lads had contracts my contract was up Michael Owen's contract was up other players contracts were up Damien Duff I think was up

10:14Paul Scholes:that's when they fell out wasn't it yeah Michael and Alan

10:16Paddy McGuinness:and you're thinking that's all well and good because footballers can go and play other places and it's a very selfish sport but they're not back that you don't understand on like the kit men getting sacked the chefs people getting sacked and you're going oh this is actually fucking horrendous fans are queuing up throwing stuff at you slagging you off rightly so we weren't good enough but I knew then I thought I spoke to my ex-wife then and I said I need to do another year even though they probably didn't want me to because I weren't playing great I just felt like it was part of us that we had to I couldn't get relegated and not be part of a team trying to get us back up show us a bit about your character the second season was in championship it was weird because we won it by a hundred and odd points it was the first club to get back up a hundred and odd points and the feeling now in the city because we're winning every game forget it was in championship but it was it was my best season there and we got up and it was really good but the going down bit going back to Tottenham you know they're in real trouble and it doesn't matter how big of a football club you are they look like they're in that rut that we was in.

11:19Nicky Butt:Do you think like with Spurs what Nicky were just saying then about all these people who could possibly lose lose the jobs people you don't even think about that game the other day because what I when it started I looked at the ground and the and the Spurs fans and I felt they're going to do this today. It just had that energy about it for me. But then you see the performance. So as a player you're coming off the, how do you look people in the eye? What do you say to your teammates or the people around? Do you kind of go, because it's not as though they've ran the socks off and put every single thing in and every challenge during that game.

11:58Nicky Butt:It's difficult to say

11:59Paul Scholes:they're not trying. I think they are probably trying. I just don't think they're of a quality that's good enough you mentioned before the injuries they've got is ridiculous and the lack of organisation between the players is just

12:13Paddy McGuinness:it's all over the place I think that's the biggest point I think success when you're struggling it isn't about one or two players going and doing their own thing and doing well it's about getting to a team together and the goal is hit the nail on the head before you've brought in someone like a Sam they're their biggest if you speak to anybody who's played under Sam or them kind of managers their biggest strength is getting that team spirit together and fighting for each other and scrapping for each other and they did it at Bolton remember they were horrible at playing against Bolton and they weren't apart from obviously Acoccia and certain other players they weren't a great squad but they were horrible at playing against because they'd run through brick walls for each other and I looked at Tottenham game yesterday and he's just doing individual little bits and they're like you're going they're going to go under because they're not a team they're not a team at all they're running around like headless chickens trying to do their own thing and it's going to end up bad

13:02Nicky Butt:I remember you said something quite a few podcasts back, which I really agree with. I think we all agreed it, where you were saying you'd rather have players around you who were like 7, 8 out of 10, but giving everything than a 9 or a 10 out of 10 who's only going to turn up or be into it for certain games.

13:20Paddy McGuinness:The 9 and 10s in the big teams, they win you things. No, they really do. They win you championships. They win you champions leagues. They take something like a salary or name hundreds of them. They win you things. but when you're at that bottom level you don't have many of them in your team you have lads that are obviously good footballers but they are workholics they run through brick walls and they keep you up I'm telling you I don't care what anybody says I've been at the both ends I've played at that end when you win stuff and you see the likes of you know Cantona Scoles Giggs these players that can win your games but I've played at that level and I would prefer 10 or 11 players that are just going to be 6, 7 out of 10 that can battle and run all over the show and scrape results because that's what you need in them games

14:03Paul Scholes:that's a good point to talk about Arsenal now you think of Eze yeah he's gone to look he's gone from Crystal Palace I'm not saying they think about relegation because obviously they won the FA Cup last year had a good season but there would have been years he's just thinking about surviving now he's come to a club that they expect to probably expect to win the league so his level of performance has got to go to a different level he's a brilliant player but I think before yesterday his last goals were against Tottenham in the first game he's got a trick against Tottenham apparently he's not had a shot on target since I know it's crazy when you hear stuff like that like I say he's gone to a big club now where you're expecting to win a league that form has got to be better you've got to go from maybe he's having one good performance in five or six games now that's got to be four or five out of six games you have to go to that next level to win your games to win your leagues I always think of Frank Lampard in that way I thought he he won his team games of football which made him different to go and win leagues and our teams you look at Van Persie that year he was Cristiano Ryan Giggs Eric Cantor as Nicky mentioned there's so many teams who have a talisman to get you over that line and win your games of football every week he's got to get to that level

15:16Paddy McGuinness:we've sat here and we've criticized Arsenal haven't we and people will say about them bottling it I don't think they bottle it I genuinely don't I think what happens in them latter stages is you need experience to get you over that line and I think correct me if I'm wrong I think there's only Jesus has won it is there I think yeah City I don't think as many as anybody else won it

15:35Nicky Butt:he's not a shoo-in every week but what they did

15:37Paddy McGuinness:yesterday I know Tottenham were terrible but before that game Arsenal lads wasn't to know that it's a big London North London Derby for them and they've gone out and they've put an emphatic 4-1 winning and made themselves favourites again Can I ask you both

15:53Nicky Butt:a question just on that well again just as a fan watching it where you were saying about them winning the league and the mentality and everything else. And only Jesus has had that success at City. When Declan Rice did that at the back, give the ball away for the goal, is that exactly what you're on about? Like you don't do things like that during games at 1-0 where you're trying to dribble. No, I know, but is it naivety? Because he didn't have the captain's arms band, but I look at Declan Rice as a player who goes who'd be screaming at someone for doing something like that you'd be like play the pass

16:31Paddy McGuinness:as soon as he's done that he knows he's made a mistake you know oh fuck he might have just cleared down the line and just get on the pitch

16:38Paul Scholes:we've all done it we've all done it we've all done that where we've made mistakes it's just instinct yeah it's just instinct sometimes what else does he do does he just boot it out for a throw and say you're panicking you're boring you try and play you still do it every time in every situation you're in and whatever part of the pitch you're in you show the confidence to do that look he made a mistake look we've all done stupid stuff like that

17:03Nicky Butt:when you get a 4-1 result people forget about that but if that would have ended 1-1

17:07Paul Scholes:it would have been

17:09Nicky Butt:criticised this morning do you think Spurs will be the biggest Premier League club to ever be relegated obviously it aren't with Newcastle would you say Spurs or Newcastle I think it's

17:21Paul Scholes:close between Tottenham and Newcastle and throw Leeds into that as well I think Tottenham would be the biggest I don't if what do your class is you might say that just because you play for Nicklaus I don't know but Villa Villa got relegated as well yeah who do your class as being bigger than any club is it worldwide status well I think would you think people around the world would know Tottenham more or Newcastle more Newcastle

17:47Nicky Butt:well I I think Newcastle and with Nicky on that I think they're a bigger I think they're a bigger club personally Spurs fans lately than Spurs but on the other side of things worldwide just because they're in the capital city and it's just London and Arsenal and Spurs and that rivalry probably worldwide Spurs are probably history as well winning trophies that's the point to it don't you we're saying history Villa are the biggest

18:15Paddy McGuinness:clubs to go down yeah if you've got them on history we win Villa have won leagues European clubs but I think if you check out but again Forest as well Yeah, but take out the obvious one. Take out the obvious top. I think they're all in that next level, aren't they? So, Spurs, Newcastle, Leeds, Villa. They're that next branch below the Liverpools, Man Utd, City, Arsenal, Chelsea. I'd say that's the next bracket. So, I mean, look, if they go down, they will be as big as any other club that's gone down.

18:44Nicky Butt:Do you think the position they're in and getting rid of Frank when they did, I know this is like the trend now with these interim managers, but surely you just bring in and go this is going to be your manager he's on a two year contract because them players again even though there's like a lot of injuries you know as a player going oh they brought another geezer he's only going to be here till end of season he's gone like do you know what I mean the psychology of that

19:12Paul Scholes:yeah I know what you mean there's two different ways of looking at it but I suppose Man Utd have done this same like they've won four out of the last five games

19:18Paddy McGuinness:the difference with that though is they brought in someone who knew the club and knows the fans and knows what to expect expectations like I can't believe they didn't go for an ex-Spurs player or manager or someone you said with Carrick

19:29Nicky Butt:and I thought actually that's a

19:30Paddy McGuinness:that's a good shout they can't manage both clubs no but what I'm saying

19:35Nicky Butt:ex-Spurs like

19:35Paddy McGuinness:Robbie Keane as well they go for a young lad like a Michael like a Robbie Keane or they go back for imagine Harry Redknapp imagine the fans going back there with Harry they'd be up and that's if I was in charge of that club I would go do we need someone to go on that football pitch and coach these players who are obviously very good technically and very good at or someone's come and galvanise a changing room and just put the basic defending Steve McCartan spoke about defending last week with Man United that's at any club if you get that basic defending right you hope a few of these little shining stars will go and get you a goal if they brought somebody in like a Harry or a Sam or someone in that ilk I'd be much more confident I'm not going down than I would be now

20:17Paul Scholes:I think you're right there but we've got to give this fella a chance somewhere Yeah, I'm not saying he's a bad coach. No, no, not at all. He's had one game and looking forward, he might do well, but I think someone, look at what Martin O 'Neill's done at Celtic. Yeah. Knowing that, that would be a Harry type of thing, wouldn't it? Just till the end of the season. But you're right, with players' mentality, I'm unlucky I'm thinking he's not going to be here next year, aren't I? I'm wondering, you know what you said, he's done it,

20:40Nicky Butt:he's got a track record for doing it, for keeping these teams up. Coming out and saying what he did after that first game, feels a little bit, maybe he's doing it to get a reaction, but the things he said feels a little bit too soon like when Conte came out and kind of famously said what he said

20:59Paul Scholes:he'd just been hammered they were if it was 4-1 it could have been 6-7 it could have been anything so your reaction is a little bit now he's not going to play against an Arsenal team every week do you know what I mean he's still going to play against good quality teams he's got to get the basics right haven't they do you know

21:16Paddy McGuinness:all the interim managers I've certainly because my eyes are always on either Man United or a Newcastle or something obviously two clubs I played for but over the years it's obviously looking at Man United with the interims when the interim manager walks out you want to see the stand and go whoa and that's the lift that you want as an owner which is what Michael got Michael got Ruud van Nissel got Roy got Oli Gunnar Solskjaer got Ryan got it's a mindset of get that how do we get the fans lifted the fans get lifted the players get lifted from the fans it's all getting a bit the first thing I hear Tottenham fans say when the new manager was, don't like that, don't like that.

21:54Paddy McGuinness:They're not cheering. It was like a sideways or flat. Now again, he's obviously a very good coach, a manager, he's done it, he's been there, he's done it. So he might get there, but my initial... Different animal ball in the Premier League.

22:06Paul Scholes:the initial thing... The initial thing... Yeah,

22:09Paddy McGuinness:but the initial thing for me is, how do you get a lift at that club? How do you somehow turn the needle to the right direction? Because at the minute it's totally not. And I don't think, and I might be wrong, I don't think that's the right... it might be the right one for a three-year deal to go and put things in place and go to that journey. But for the next three or four months, I think they should have gone and got someone

22:29Nicky Butt:who got the crowd up and buzzing. It's interesting when you say about the three-year thing as well because football, now when I watch it, I don't think anyone's got that length of time. You can go on a run and win six games on track and then you lose four and everyone's calling for your blood.

22:45Paul Scholes:Well, Armourin was a prime example of that, wasn't it? Remember when we said earlier on, and Jim Ratcliffe have done that interview no he's got three years yeah not a chance contracts are a waste of time a length of contracts are a complete waste of time because the only thing that keeps your job is results

23:01Nicky Butt:when an interim manager comes in you had it with Alan what do they say to you on that first meeting like what's the kind of is it a different philosophy if they knew they were coming in on a two year contract we said it in the week

23:17Paddy McGuinness:about Michael I think it's not easy what Michael's doing Michael's doing an unbelievable job and long may it continue but when I say the easy part of that job is it can be everyone's friend so it's come on Paddy I think you're brilliant at that toss the last manager you should have been playing if I'd have been manager you'd have been playing for the last and you're going to go like that and lift up Scosey you're brilliant I want everyone to give him the ball you bring all them players out of the shell and you make them feel a million dollars and stick the chest out and you've got to be everybody's friends now if you're the manager of Tottenham now, I'm talking about Tottenham, and like he is, obviously interim, but if he was going to get a contract, he's now making, he's now having discussions with the sporting director about who he wants to sign in the summer, and that gets out, and if someone's trying to replace me, and Scorsese will say the same, replacing all of us three, you're looking at him and going, he wants me to go and run for a brick wall for him.

24:09Paddy McGuinness:Now, not all players, I wouldn't have been like that, and he wouldn't have been, because you've got your own pride, but some players will go, he's talking to X, Y, and Z, and they're all going to replace me and then he wants me to run through a brick wall for him. So that's the difference with an interim manager and a long-term manager is that you can be their friend, you can pat them on the back, you can be mates with them. The minute you become manager, you've got to go, whoa, move straight away from them. That's a tricky...

25:28Paul Scholes:See website for details. One sweet, melty bite of a Hershey's bar, and suddenly I'm right back sitting on the front porch with my grandmother on a slow summer afternoon. She doesn't say much, just breaks the bar in half and hands me a piece.

25:41Paddy McGuinness:I open my mouth to say whatever a nine-year-old wants to say. And she replies with a low, shh, listen. So we sat there, listening.

25:53Paul Scholes:That was the first time I learned that quiet can feel full.

25:57Paddy McGuinness:Hershey's, it's your happy place.

25:59Nicky Butt:Apart from me. Right, so let's get on to Arsenal. It's interesting, isn't it, saying pressure was building on them after that draw at Wolves? because there's still a lot of football to be played. Do you think it's all us on the outside saying about the pressure? Do you think there, as a team, looking around at everyone around them and going, do you know what? Fucking good team this, good manager. Do you think they're feeling that pressure?

26:27Paul Scholes:Yeah. Of course they are. They get into that, but they've not done it for a long, long time. Are they watching other results? I've heard Keone on the radio going mad this morning saying, did you hear them?

26:37Paddy McGuinness:I love that.

26:38Paul Scholes:when they win every week well not when they win when they win this week he's going mad when they're losing every week he's going mad because everyone's calling bottlers now he's complaining about someone calling Arsenal bottlers the only team that can be bottlers are the team at the top of the league they've had a nine point lead at some point so they are the only team that can be bottlers I mean if they're wobbling a bit like they have been the last few weeks other than yesterday they have been wobbling

27:03Nicky Butt:did you see that did you hear that I had it on it I had that but the thing with Martin when he was sort of getting a bit riled up with Simon Jordan I think it was Sam Matterface yeah I'm listening he argues with himself no that's what I thought I thought no one's actually said anything to him he's arguing it's like a bit of a chip on the shoulder

27:25Paul Scholes:kind of thing he's a great bloke but he's defending stuff that doesn't need to be yeah he was getting annoyed

27:30Nicky Butt:about no one had said

27:31Paul Scholes:nobody nobody had spoke to him nobody asked him a question he was having a go Andy Goldstein the corner's bottle jobs yeah because you've been at the top of the league you look like you're wobbling so you're gonna get whatever team we did we had a 12 point lead years ago

27:46Paddy McGuinness:Newcastle got it if your arse goes a little bit your bottle jobs it's a terminology yeah it's just a terminology do you know what

27:55Nicky Butt:Giocares when you said about the SA stat a minute ago this one's got he's had one shot on target against top 10 team this season I was delighted

28:09Paddy McGuinness:for him yesterday I'm not an Arsenal fan I think he seems like a decent lad I was delighted for him because he's had a lot of crap on him a lot of pressure on him and I don't know we're not Arsenal fans you don't hear that much coming out of there in this area that we're in but he must have had loads of sticking him off Arsenal fans about forwards the forwards they've had and looking at him and his two finishes yesterday he hit them clean as a whistle and you know they're just disappointed and getting a hat trick

28:36Paul Scholes:The thing you say about him, I think you'd love to play with him.

28:39Paddy McGuinness:Yeah. Runs. He works his ball and stuff.

28:42Paul Scholes:He occupies them. Has he got the quality of a Van Nistel Roy, Andy Cole, these type of people? Probably not, but as Nicky said, you're pleased for him yesterday.

28:51Nicky Butt:Is there anyone at United, or any teams you've played at as well, Nicky, where someone signed, and they've had a bit of stick at the beginning, and then they've just suddenly clicked? You mentioned Cole before.

29:03Paddy McGuinness:I think stick was not what he got. Yeah. from the fans because the fans were brilliant with him I think the journalists and the reporters and there's no podcasters then but obviously the media were having a pop-up call when he first got not scoring a goal because he was brought in as a goal scorer so I don't remember that so what was his run? it took him a time to get I think you said it on air didn't it it took him a while to get his goals but what he was doing he was becoming a better footballer but people didn't see that they'd have seen Andy Cole the number 9 goal scorer coming from scoring loads of goals at Newcastle into Man United and drying up but what he did do was he became a much better team player at Man United he said that we said that on the podcast but he didn't really get hit the ground running until I'm not quite sure what game it was when he it turned I think you were saying it was Ipswich or something was it scored 3 or 4 or 5

29:52Paul Scholes:I think he might have scored 5 again looking back it's a long time ago so I don't remember if that's the thing that set him up but I'm pretty sure but then

29:59Paddy McGuinness:he went on a run like you're just going

30:01Nicky Butt:wow do you think that's what's going to happen with Giocares now no because I don't think

30:05Paddy McGuinness:because I think he's an out-on-out goal scorer. No, I don't see that. I don't see it at all. I see him as a, like Scoles, you said, if you're playing a two up front and you've got him with a goal scorer, you've got a dream team, but I don't see him with an out-on-out goal scorer.

30:17Paul Scholes:He probably played against the most disorganised defence you've ever seen yesterday as well. Yeah. That'll help him if he's got to play. And Arsenal do struggle against a team that just sit back and sit back and get in the shape. Arsenal struggle big time.

30:28Nicky Butt:Just where you're saying that, because I was just going to say it to both of you, because you two have won it all, really, in the game. do you think that Arsenal side now have that championship thing about them where they're going to go on and dominate can I say something just to get Martin Keyon going again do you think

30:45Paddy McGuinness:do you still think they're the worst team to win the league if they was Arsenal that was a bit of a statement

30:51Paul Scholes:I haven't been impressed by Arsenal no massively I've not watched one game this year I think yesterday they were good yesterday weren't they they were good yesterday where I thought yeah that's a great one but you look at Tottenham Tottenham absolute disarray I haven't seen one performance this year where I thought this team are going to be champions I think Arsenal sorry Nick but it's not just Arsenal I haven't seen it from another team I haven't looked at City and saw a performance where I thought wow they look like champions this year now I think City might get better if that front three four or five get going City will be very difficult I think Arsenal

31:30Paddy McGuinness:were a better team last year than they are this year why is that I've seen better performances last year from Arsenal than they did this year I still think they're going to go on and win the league by the way I think that's the turning point yesterday for them I think their confidence this morning will be like we can do this lads and what they need Arsenal they don't need people feeling sorry for them they don't need people bigging them up they need to be that what we said we have when we were playing that mindset where it's us against the world we're on this island and no one can affect us

31:58Nicky Butt:if you could pluck a team from United when you were winning everything and put it in the Arsenal team now? A player. A player. A player, sorry. Who would you put in there? I'd put Ruud into that team.

32:12Paul Scholes:I think everywhere else, even, I say they're quite strong everywhere else. I don't think defensively they've been great. I thought you're saving for that goal that they conceded. I'm not sure what Saliba was doing.

32:22Nicky Butt:Hang on a minute. They have been all right defensively. You can't say they've not.

32:27Paul Scholes:Yeah. I said I don't think they've been great. All right. Yeah. All right. Fucking hell. He's not an Arsenal fan. I mean, they've got one of the best defensive records in the league. I really want Arsenal to win the league, but I also enjoy them wobbling a little bit.

32:41Nicky Butt:Oh, me as a neutral. Just because of Martin Keogh, I think. Just listen to Martin Keogh's tremble on a Monday morning. I wanted a draw yesterday because I, as a fan, I love this City-Arsenal thing. We need to get Martin on here. Do you want a draw? Because I didn't want him to lose, and it'd be too tight now. I still want that like three point kush. I like the draw. I just like as a football fan. It's still tight.

33:08Paddy McGuinness:Should we get Martin on? Should we invite him on? He's a great lad as well. I'm telling you what, if Martin would have been here

33:13Nicky Butt:when you said, when you were having to say their defences and all that, we'd have had some fucking fire alarms and we'd have got steam would have been coming.

33:20Paul Scholes:The man is hilarious, honestly. He's such a great guy. I know,

33:23Nicky Butt:he's a lovely, right, Martin, is he in a contract with the old talks?

33:27Paul Scholes:Do you know what, I was watching the Wolves game the other night, I was just thinking of Martin Keown. Martin, if you're watching this,

33:34Nicky Butt:please can you respond to this? He doesn't think the Arsenal defence is all that. Do you know something?

33:39Paddy McGuinness:Do you know something, what you said about the player going? For me, I would put a Roy Keown in there because I think they need a leader. Some leaders in that pitch are going, we can do this, we can get... And he's talking about Martin Keown. If Martin Keown was in that team, I would be a lot more confident of them going and winning the league because he's a leader. And I think, I don't know, maybe nowadays, modern football, you don't have leaders like that. I'm pretty sure Declan Rice is a big leader I'm pretty sure Saliba's a leader but you just need someone to grab them by the short and curlies and go, lads we can do this, we're all a good team we're good players and we proved that yesterday and I get it, Tottenham wasn't unbelievable they were bad but they've won 4-1 I think Declan Rice is

34:19Paul Scholes:I know what Nicky's saying there when Roy was getting the team together and leading the team really well there's a certain calmness about it when I look at Declan Rice he looks he almost looks too emotional do you know what I mean he's lively come on come on come on then he makes his mistake do you not think that's like a spirit there has to be when you're going for a league title when you've got tough games there has to be a calmness about you do you think he's a captain yeah I think he is I think he is I think he's a captain how old is he he's just when I look at him now and I think he's so emotional he's early 20s isn't he

34:52Paddy McGuinness:mid 20s yeah I think he is a top I think he's a leader I get what Scorsese's like but I think that's he wants to win it so much so and he's made his mistake yesterday it's like I just think there needs some calmness in that team Scorsese's right you are 100 % right what you say I'm not disagreeing with you but I just if there's any player that I would take to Man United in the country it'd be Decker Rice now

35:14Nicky Butt:it's interesting you're saying that because when he made that mistake the camera went on he's walking off and then he turns around to the team he goes I'm going hang on a minute if I'm on the pitch I'm going you just fucked up

35:28Paul Scholes:I don't like all that that's what I mean I don't like people being so emotional do you know with that

35:32Paddy McGuinness:what rang a little alarm bell with me with that is when that happened not one Arsenal player had a go at him that's what I'm saying now if you rewind to a Martin Keown day a Tony Adams day a Patrick Vieira's day a Henri all these players they would have or flip it with us Keane or a Bruce or a Robson or a Mark Hughes or Cantona they would take you to the cleaners and I'm like who are the ones that are leading the team to try and get them over that line and that's the concern for me and I get what when Martin says things on that on TalkSport about people call us this people call but you don't see I don't see the actual leaders at that club I don't see it

36:14Paul Scholes:people probably call me a miserable bastard and they might be right but you don't want to take emotion out of the game of course we want we want to see emotion but it has to be in the right way. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? You're scoring goals, celebrating, brilliant. That's great if you get carried away a little bit with that. But I think getting carried away in actually game management and game situations...

36:35Paddy McGuinness:Manage used to always say it, didn't he? Manage used to always say it. He would never have picked, I know he's not a defender, Declan, but he'd never pick an emotional defender. Yeah. He said it all the time, didn't he? He used to say to Gary Neville, yeah.

36:46Paul Scholes:Yeah, you're too emotional. Sometimes you can be too emotional. Too emotional. And remember the incident years ago with Gallas for Arsenal? No. Birmingham away. He totally lost his rag. He absolutely went nuts. And that's the type of emotional thing when it gets to the end. And I think they ended up blowing the league. I'm not sure he won, it might be, it might be Chelsea, I can't remember. But it's them type of things where the manager always said you've got to have a calmness about you. It's all right being up for it, getting hyped up for games, you're brilliant, but when you're just on a pitch, just...

37:17Nicky Butt:I think Arteta seems to have that though, doesn't he? He seems very calm. Yeah, he does. You know what I mean? Sometimes he's a bit spiky in the post-match.

37:25Paul Scholes:Yeah, I think there has been a situation the last few weeks where he's a bit lively. I think he has calmed down a little bit. And these next 10 games will be a big test because something happens, a decision goes against them and they fucking lose the rag. Especially from your leader, from your manager, you have to see some kind of calmness, I think.

37:43Nicky Butt:Do you think what was interesting after the City game, and I spoke about this a few pods back where I was saying about Pep to me, they lost a game, I can't remember who they lost against City. And it were almost, not that he weren't bothered, but the interview after, I thought, God, I thought he'd be a bit more upset and you were saying probably behind closed doors he is. What was interesting when they won the other day, did you see him celebrate? And he's pointing up into the stands and all that. Were you going, oh, because I got a sense like, it's on, the title race is on.

38:20Paul Scholes:Yeah. he'll know it's on of course I don't think he's himself 100 % convinced about his team do you know what I mean I think he's still thinking of the and he keeps he keeps saying it because people are saying to him look you've been there before yes but my players haven't I've got five or six seven new players who haven't been there before so I still think he's a little bit concerned about his team

38:43Nicky Butt:and without us going too much about Martin Keown that was his argument saying even though Arsenal of four points clear he's saying Pep's experience is far superior so you've got to put them as favourites even though they're not leading

38:58Paul Scholes:Martin's making excuses for something that's not happened already that's what he's doing he's frightened to death Martin we've got to get him on the lad's not even playing, what's wrong with him he's frightened to death and he played in great Arsenal teams that had the balls to go and win leagues I don't know what his big issue is

39:18Nicky Butt:we'll find out because we're going to get him on. When he comes on as well,

39:22Paul Scholes:he's got to bring his red boots. Because he's sitting next to Scalzi. With his long studs on there. Fuck, he used to wear them every day, didn't he? Put his stretching thing in him. He always, every single day, oh, bright red boots. Seven and a half,

39:35Nicky Butt:what was he like in and around England and what have you? Hilarious. The nicest man you've met. He is lovely in him. He's one of them,

39:42Paul Scholes:he's not trying to be funny,

39:44Nicky Butt:is he? But just some of the things. He just comes out with stuff. For me, when I've been around him, and I go, what a lovely guy, I don't know what I was expecting. I think, knowing his head of hard defending...

39:54Paul Scholes:His reputation as a player was his fucking nutcase. That's what I'm saying. It comes from the Van Nistel ride, over him like that. Yeah, and he was, he can be a bit like that, I had a bit of a needle about him, but off the perch.

40:05Paddy McGuinness:He was sitting next to us, didn't he? He was getting on the bus at England and to the left there was four of us sat there and two sat there and he'd sit with us and talk. And you talk about players,

40:15Paul Scholes:train how they play. Yeah, him, yeah, four, yeah. you've asked Teddy sharing in my mind Keon playing against he fucking hated it in training because he just kicks shit out of him and you see Teddy go like what are you doing what are you doing we're on the same side I'm trying to get this team I like that though and he's the only one who wore studs in the game in training sorry in training we all wore rubber and he sings a great version of Danny Boy as well we're getting all the Keon facts out this was in a manga before the World Cup squad was announced so we all had a remember they closed all the blinds there's only us did that get him the place we had a really good night did he play the piano as well no he had a piano

40:52Paddy McGuinness:player and he sang Danny Boy and he started singing Danny Boy brilliant sang them all the way through and everyone's giving him a round of applause and he goes we're getting to sing Danny Boy that was rubbish it was fucking rubbish

41:01Nicky Butt:what's brilliant about that really is he's got up there in an England camp and sung a song that doesn't get more Irish

41:09Paul Scholes:than that song I think he's got a lot of Irish I don't even know that name as well he's in the

41:13Nicky Butt:fucking England squad though

41:16Paul Scholes:I think Gas did night fever

41:20Paddy McGuinness:he's standing on the table an Italian so he's got someone got tequila so he's put his finger in a tequila and lit his fingers so he's lit his fingers on fire he's going night fever like that doing a dance like that anyway the bottle of tequila goes over and it goes like that and they're all put in the fire the next day we all get up all very rough and Gas has got a big bandage on his finger like that he's got a third degree burn on his finger where you've been doing night fever. Brilliant.

41:46Nicky Butt:I've still got a scar on my chest. I think we've all had a Drambuie incident in the pub. Well, you haven't ever done it where you're setting on fire? I don't condone this, any people watching. And then you put it on your chest. Oh, no. I've not done that. And it seals it, and then you pull it off and drink it. I don't know why.

42:03Paul Scholes:So you've got a big burn.

42:04Nicky Butt:Yeah, but at the time, my chest wasn't like it is now, lads. It was a little bit slimmer. Did you have a big one then? Yeah, and I went side on, so it didn't seal it, and just set me self in place.

42:15Paul Scholes:When you want your spring break to feel like and your kids' pool day to feel like

Nickname's a barrel. Just drank beer, yeah. Just drinks lager. Yeah, that's what you're better off doing. Stick to what you know.

43:44Paul Scholes:I don't mind a couple of black sambucas now.

43:46Nicky Butt:Oh, no. Do you know, there's no worse when you're up with your mates and you're all having a nice night, you're having a few beers, it's a great time, and then some knobhead goes, hey, comes on, you go, why have you done that? Because you have to do it, you can't say no.

43:59Paul Scholes:You can say no, of course you can.

44:01Nicky Butt:Not with lads in the pub. You can say no, it doesn't work.

44:03Paul Scholes:My mate says no, he won't touch a drop of any shots.

44:06Paddy McGuinness:Who won't?

44:07Paul Scholes:My mate.

44:08Paddy McGuinness:I won't do a shot, I'll say no all the time to him. when he gets them Zambuca stuff out or something like an open mill I won't touch one of them I tell you what

44:15Nicky Butt:you must have very forgiving mates because my lot no chance no I do it I'll drink it because it just saves arguing I can't be arse arguing all night that's why I do it I just go get out of it go on move on

44:30Paddy McGuinness:if I drink that I'll just I'll be sick in my mouth with that Zambuca it's awful it's like when you used to have it as a kid one of them things

44:38Paul Scholes:you drank on that New Year's Eve Was it Whiskey Sours or something? Old Fashioned. Old Fashioned. Oh, they're horrendous.

44:45Paddy McGuinness:Oh, no, I love an Old Fashioned.

44:46Nicky Butt:Do you know why he's drinking that? Because in that thing, Mad Men, John Hamm, it's like quite a cosmopolitan drink. He used to drink them, didn't he? What was it? Mad Men? Mad Men. Do you not remember that series? I like an Old Fashioned. I don't like shots. How can you like them? They taste horrendous. No, I do. I like an Old Fashioned. Do you like a Dirty Martini? No. No. They're another one. Oh. Oh, you have one of them. I've tried one. That's what James Bond drinks. I have not a fucking clue how he operates Bond. Because I've had two of them once. He's taking off Russian army. I could walk to a fucking taxi.

45:19Nicky Butt:I was like, I was Bond shaking knots. I'd be absolutely on the floor in Casino Royale. But they won't have to do anything. Right, now, for some reason, and I don't know why they've done this, they put it on my iPad here. they want to talk about United in 1996 beating Bolton 6-0.

45:43Paddy McGuinness:Because this week, because this week, it happened this week.

45:46Nicky Butt:Is that right? No, I was about 50, I don't even remember this game. You weren't 50, you're 21. I don't remember this game.

45:54Paddy McGuinness:Only are you TV lot tech seven years off yourself. Keep yourself relevant. I'm a podcaster now everyone.

45:59Nicky Butt:Keep yourself relevant. I'm a podcaster now. It says you scored twice, you scored two people have been on this pod Steve Bruce and Andy Cole they scored they scored as well and Bex scored what do you remember about the game because I don't I don't well I scored too

46:18Paul Scholes:I was so much that must have been at Burnham Park it was at Burnham Park it's 96 what a old fashioned ground I'll say that was wasn't it oh yeah we were actually at the end remember the wooden benches you had in PA yeah you sat on them and I remember like fans because I was sub in the game I remember fans like throwing bottles of whiskey onto the manager and stuff you drink it? not yet nobody do like throwing bottles of whiskey on do you remember the Bolton fans aren't very nice they don't like them on United they are they are lovely people do you get any stick about working with us? seriously I'll tell you a story about going to Bolton to Burnham Park years ago I went to watch Oldham as an Oldham fan I went with Claire actually one of my first nights one of his first dates

46:59Paddy McGuinness:I took Claire to Oldham away no one did he sing No one is single. No one is single. Wait this night, love. We're going to go and watch Oldham Bolton. I'll get you the pie. No, it was Saturday afternoon.

47:11Paul Scholes:It was Saturday afternoon. I'll get you the pie on the Bob roll. Proper spoiler. Anyway, we won 1-0. Darren Beckford scored Feed the Bear. Yeah. And he scored. It was a big shot. It was a bit of a shot. Yeah. And I was walking away from the stadium obviously with Claire and some bloke just grabbed on me. That won't have been a Bolton fan. Because the Oldham fan, it was a big, horrible Bolton fans still see his face really yeah it was horrible that's not nice I don't condone that I don't condone that horrible don't condone that so anyway did he say anything no I don't remember him saying because obviously the older fans away fans walk down one way that's old school

47:53Paddy McGuinness:football it was old school football ground it was horrible I don't remember too much about it honestly I don't I remember I remember scoring a goal because I didn't score that many but yeah I don't remember too much about it at all

48:05Nicky Butt:I remember my first time going to Burnham Park just when you were saying about the spitting incident and because obviously everyone stood up back then and me overriding memory I don't know I was young a bloke accidentally elbowed me straight in the fucking nose you know when it's like eyes watering I can't remember I couldn't even tell you it was that horrific and I was like what is this where's the worst place you've ever

48:30Paddy McGuinness:been and watched the game the worst place I've watched the game well not the worst place but the most intense like thinking I need to get out of here I went when we were school when we were apprentices

48:41Paul Scholes:Baltimore's up there

48:42Paddy McGuinness:we went to we were apprentices we went I went with Craig Dean

48:45Paul Scholes:yeah

48:45Paddy McGuinness:me Kyle Brown we went to Leeds away yeah I don't know why we went we went to Leeds away I was only about 16 or 17 one of us drove we park up I remember we didn't even get to the game we got we were walking to the stadium obviously speaking our Manc accents these Leeds fans were like Mancs literally I felt like I'd ran a marathon we were getting chased by about it was like three of us 16 skinny 16 year old kids getting chased by grown men honestly we were just running around his car park didn't even get in the ground got back in the car and drove back it was horrendous

49:20Paul Scholes:Bolton wasn't nice you know Bolton I don't feel as bad now Bolton had a hatred towards Man United well that's he's still there Well, that's what I'm saying. I don't see it as much now because while they're obviously in League One, they will be back one day.

49:35Nicky Butt:You know what's interesting about?

49:37Paul Scholes:It's almost on the Leeds level of hatred, wasn't it? Yeah.

49:40Nicky Butt:Well, that's why I never used to like, like if we beat United, because I used to think, oh, you're playing into their hands here. We'd have like T-shirts printed in club shop at school and I used to think, no, because I hated it when United came and said you're only here to see United and all that carry on. But, you know, sometimes you go to a football, match now and obviously it is and it's great seeing families there and everything else but every like you'd be sat there and you'd be like oh it's lovely this and then there's always like a real old school found somewhere and you see him and you go oh my fucking god

50:15Paul Scholes:absolutely going for it i tell you another scary one i went to with all of them as always west ham they all like upton park they had one with you know standing up in their way and

50:26Nicky Butt:Green Street Green Street yeah and there was like

50:29Paul Scholes:a cage in between you and the West Ham fans and they fucking

50:32Nicky Butt:what about they had a bit of a reputation Millwall what was it like when did you play a game there

50:37Paul Scholes:we played the youth cup played the old den old den there and youth cup that must have been tasty well we were only 18 so I think one of the sides

50:46Paddy McGuinness:it was first year the first year I played it it was 16 we were

50:49Paul Scholes:no I think it was second year it was second year 17 then yeah we got beat in the first game every Millwall player came and had a skinhead and the beat was at Old Trafford 2-1 maybe and we had to win the away leg at the old den which was a fucking scary place and we won 2-0 remember Jovan American lad Jovan Krofsky he scored two or did you score you scored was it when you scored

51:14Paddy McGuinness:no I back to your position sorry lads so I remember going off the pitch and this guy's throwing the ball and I was a bit gobbled when I was younger and like frees me the ball and he had a go at me I went, cough. I was about, it's a grown man. Yeah. So I remember going out to the bus after the game and I'm walking to the bus and this guy's there waiting for me. He wants to kill me. I was like, yeah, yeah, come on men. And I'm walking that way and I'm thinking he's going to kill you like a big meathead.

51:38Paul Scholes:That was just us as a kid's game. Imagine like a Millwall Chelsea or something back in the day. Yeah, back in the day would have been, yeah, forget that.

51:44Nicky Butt:Yeah, forget that. Jesus Christ. Yeah, I think obviously the game's changed now. The grounds now don't lend themselves to that. them old school football grounds kind of lent themselves to that. It was that far from the touchlights.

52:00Paul Scholes:I don't see a lot of it now. I went to the West Dam Stadium

52:04Paddy McGuinness:during the week for the Man United. Beautiful, you're thinking, I'd love to play here. But the crowd are like 20 metres away. Yeah, but you're miles away from the pit. Yeah, you're thinking, what a nice place to come and play football. It's total opposite to the old ground. And I think that's affecting the way. I was going to say,

52:19Nicky Butt:a lot of the fans are... I was speaking to some of the fans there,

52:21Paddy McGuinness:they were all right, it's a fair story, some of the fans there, some of the ex-players and I was doing it with Mikel Antoni and I was saying it's totally different like when we played it was horrible it was horrendous horrendous because you're right

52:32Nicky Butt:because when I've been to that ground and I did that I watched and went fucking hell this is impressive but I suppose if you've been to the old school and you're a West Ham fan and you're going down and you're going because you want to intimidate the rival team a bit don't you it's a bit like Tottenham

52:45Paddy McGuinness:as well Tottenham everyone I want to go is to play at that stadium everyone I want to go and play at that stadium I say with West Ham apart from Tottenham I said

52:53Nicky Butt:they were lovely it's like what a state

52:55Paddy McGuinness:we're going to play football if you're travelling for Manchester it's lovely the changing rooms it's beautiful remember Millwall playing at Millwall sorry Millwall so Wimbledon oh the changing rooms it was always freezing cold there was never any heating on it was like literally it was like this one it was Palace yeah

53:11Paul Scholes:it was you ever played at Plough Lane no

53:13Paddy McGuinness:we played at what was it

53:14Paul Scholes:we played at Palace's Ground what was it called it was Wimbledon Sellers Park

53:17Paddy McGuinness:yeah it was horrible wasn't it nothing comfortable nowadays some dressing you go to some of his yeah cup you go to some of his new stadiums your seat's heated

53:28Nicky Butt:your floor's heated it's beautiful it's so easy to play something I saw the other day on the telly which piqued my interest was Nadell tennis player saying he'd went back he's horrible him honestly honestly he's horrible hang on you tell me what you bet Nadell Nadell Rafa Nadell he snapped yeah that's what I said Nadell I said Nadell Nadal Yes Was Said he'd been skiing Right And he'd not done it For however many years And he like He were aching He found it difficult And what have you And I started thinking About other sports Right Because you two Are sport billies You two are good At more sports Right What would you say Is your top five Most difficult sports If you've never done it before To do If you've never You know I love a list Boxing What are you looking at That Oh he's got his fucking phone out the big dialect expert he's got his phone out underneath well said thank you thank you what are you looking at come on Paddy give us yours he's on his tinder give us yours

54:31Paul Scholes:right I'll just get my phone out here I made some notes right I'll get mine out here I actually did something for the show right I made a few notes

54:38Nicky Butt:before you attack because I know it's coming I'm basing this on not the not see there's so many things you can base this in that's what I'm saying I'm not basing it on the sport is in when you're doing it at the highest level and what about you've never done it before for difficulty number one fishing fucking fishing alright then oh you did put a rod in wait for it to buy a model in no no no see this is where you're wrong because if you go I don't to a lake for a bit of fishing right what are you using firstly a rod a fucking rod right you're saying a rod as though it's a Right, so there's all different rods.

55:19Nicky Butt:Oh, no. Right, there's different real things on them. There's different things for different fishing. Right, this is what I mean. You're just going, oh, it's not fucking hook a duck at first. We just go down and go and get a fish out there. How many fish have you caught? Quite a few. Bollocks. How many have you caught? When you go fishing and you throw a rod in, do you catch a fish? I've caught one fish in Dubai. Exactly. What I'm saying is... And I don't know how I did it. If you put on a fur of football boots, whether you're a good player or not, you can kick a ball if you pick up a golf club you can swing it but fishing

55:51Paul Scholes:I don't get it you can't even see them

55:53Nicky Butt:they're under the fucking walls you can't see them

55:55Paul Scholes:I'm with them I think it must be hard

55:57Nicky Butt:thank you

55:58Paddy McGuinness:thank you my opinion is whatever fucking rod it is you put it into the water and you stand it there and you sit there like this and the alarm goes after you go I've got one what's hard about that

56:07Nicky Butt:but even that's not not what you do because the actual setting up of just that I know what you mean you do sit on there carry on

56:15Paul Scholes:right I don't fancy playing with maggots I ever do you play with a few maggots in your time right number two what do I mean to give you number two oh you give us your number one no no go on

56:27Nicky Butt:no go on you give us one I haven't really got him in order

56:29Paul Scholes:I wouldn't like to do boxing

56:30Nicky Butt:well boxing's my number two

56:32Paul Scholes:yeah I wouldn't like to do boxing

56:34Nicky Butt:and again

56:35Paul Scholes:I know you're excited by boxing

56:37Nicky Butt:no I don't

56:38Paddy McGuinness:I wouldn't want to do boxing I don't want to get fucking punched boxing's the number one

56:42Nicky Butt:if you were going for a sport at highest level when you're doing it I think boxing's number one I think it's the hardest fitness sport it's everything ever but even just putting a pair of boots if you're on a bag and hit it you've no idea you can break your wrist you can it's not as straightforward as what you think boxing

56:59Paddy McGuinness:I don't think it is I'm just saying it's not go on

57:02Nicky Butt:what's your problem with boxing then

57:04Paddy McGuinness:I love boxing it's not to do with boxing no but you're saying about difficulty you think it's easier I think it's hard to get to the top but I think anyone can just have a little box of a punch bag

57:12Paul Scholes:alright ok well this is what this is all about it's hard to get to the top on anything what about this one go on no don't say fucking cricket none of you have said it

57:24Nicky Butt:gymnastics well I'm a bit with Nicky on this like what he said about

57:31Paul Scholes:well Nicky's not said anything yet

57:32Nicky Butt:no no when he mentioned earlier about being on the piss and training the day after and Steve McLaren's got you doing tipple overs you can do that can't you you can get on a mat and do a tipple over and you can do a pike I'm not saying what I'm saying is you're going to get abuse from gymnastics no no what I'm saying is it's an extremely no I'm saying it's an extremely difficult sport I reckon it's one of the

57:51Paul Scholes:hardest sports you've got to be the most dedicated you mean Florex hours a day the ring one I remember I took a list when she was a kid yeah it's like four hours a day or something

58:03Nicky Butt:no I took my youngest I get that but what I'm saying is it's a sport you can have a go at straight away you're not going to be good at it I'm basing mine on

58:12Paul Scholes:yeah but just what he said about fishing Well, can I throw a rod in?

58:14Nicky Butt:Yeah, having that fishing rod,

58:16Paddy McGuinness:that's the biggest bullshit I've ever heard in my life. If you've not had a fishing rod in your life,

58:21Nicky Butt:you wouldn't even be able to cast it out. You put your finger on it, you put the hoop over, and you throw it and let your finger go, click it over, reel it in. Yeah, but you wouldn't know that, though. Someone would have to show you how to do that, but you can walk on a gymnastics mat and do a fucking tipple over. No, that's not gymnastics. No, but I'm saying you can have a go with it.

58:38Paul Scholes:Yeah, but could you run right down the lane, jump on a fucking trampoline and do all that shit?

58:42Nicky Butt:of course you couldn't because you're not an expert I'm on a we're on about sports what you're just having a go at you're going alright you're not going to be able to do a triple over is not gymnastics

58:54Paul Scholes:is it a tipple over

58:55Paddy McGuinness:oh I did a tipple over I'm going to put mine out there I don't know what it's actually called but you know that cross country skiing when you've got to do a shoot after it biathlon cross country biathlon well that for me would be horrendously difficult to do but again for his logic endurance

59:11Paul Scholes:we can not jump on skis and walk You fucking can't.

59:13Paddy McGuinness:You can't jump on a ski. I challenge you to jump on a ski next week. We'll do a podcast next week from Chill Factor. Watch Paul Scholes. I can't walk on a ski. No, you couldn't. Watch Paul Scholes break his fucking neck on a ski.

59:25Nicky Butt:I agree. You could probably walk on a ski. I've never done skiing. I won't pay for these two to go to Chill Factor.

59:31Paul Scholes:You could fucking walk. I'm not on a ski. There's cross country. All they do is walk on a ski. Oh, my God. I say that.

59:37Paddy McGuinness:You can walk. You pair of bell ends. You should go that. You can't. you go backwards you try and walk up here on a slope no not downhill not bad you try and go up hill with skis I guarantee you both of you two couldn't do it guarantee you couldn't do it I bet you are you saying

59:56Nicky Butt:you put a pair of skis on us here and we could walk forward

1:00:00Paddy McGuinness:and you have any kind of elevation that way up you two won't be able to walk forward you keep changing it though no I just said it you said you couldn't walk so if we put a pair of skis on us here could we walk no no if we put a pair of skis on there of course you could I bet you couldn't I bet we could I bet you couldn't right well I'll bet you a fucking grand

1:00:19Nicky Butt:I can walk that door I've been skied before have you ever skied never in my life

1:00:23Paddy McGuinness:you could not go walk that on a flat or up not downhill flat or up no no he's changing again you said in this room could I put on a pair of skis and get to that door I reckon I could but I'm saying to you it's got to not be on a down it's got to be on a flat or up and I'll bet you the grand

1:00:38Nicky Butt:if you you're tiny if they had a pair of skis and I watched that door which is what if anyone watching this there's a door behind that camera and you've never skied before have you ever put skis on 25 foot away have you ever put skis on

1:00:47Paddy McGuinness:never well I'll bet you now then we'll go and do it next week me and your own oh hang on a minute I bet you we're on about this room you said well no fucking snow in here so we can't do this room we have to go to chill factor no no no no it's changing it now no we didn't mention the snow you didn't say snow oh you didn't say snow you didn't say snow what are you putting fucking skis on for

1:01:03Nicky Butt:no we said just to get from here to there You could probably walk with skis on.

1:01:07Paddy McGuinness:Is that a grand one? That's what we said. We've got a, don't be a knob.

1:01:11Nicky Butt:And with that in mind as well, we've all been fur ground with rifles shooting fucking targets down. So we can all do that as well.

1:01:17Paddy McGuinness:I mean, this is a stupid, he's made this up.

1:01:20Nicky Butt:I'm going to give you one where you can't just do it like that. Rodeo. Bull riding. Give that a go. Is that a sport? It's massive in America.

1:01:28Paul Scholes:That's a pastime, isn't it?

1:01:30Nicky Butt:A pastime? What? Fucking sitting on the back of a bull? What do you do when you fucking spare time?

1:01:36Paul Scholes:Nah. Ball riding is going to be... Yeah, but anyone can go and sit on a ball, can't they? Don't mean you can ride it. He's still thinking about this. What's that machine? Carl, look, goes round. How many seconds can you stay on it? You've done it.

1:01:49Nicky Butt:I'll concede to that. You're right. The one at the fur ground. What in Benadol? About eight pints. It is tricky to stay on, though. It is. Right. All right. You can sit on a ball. Surfing.

1:02:00Paul Scholes:I can surf. just putting it out there now. He is like an extreme sportsman. I can fucking say that.

1:02:07Nicky Butt:This man, if you put a board under his feet, he's fucking mustered at everything. Ski, snowboard, surfing. You can't just stand, you didn't just get on a surfboard and surf. I didn't say I did. I said I can ski. You had a course. You had a course. Yeah. I did it in. No, but if you remember the first time you ever went on a surfboard. First time I did it was in Singapore. What happened?

1:02:24Paddy McGuinness:You know them static wave machines that you go on and you learn and I did a course down in Cornwall doing it.

1:02:29Nicky Butt:No, but I'm saying the first time you went on a surfboard, no lessons. could you stand on it yeah I fucking do jumps and all sorts fucking why do we even bother no chance and that's what I'm saying in fact I think surfing might be above fishing my nickname well it's hard to do fucking chest's above fishing is fishing a sport fishing or just put a bit of string in the fucking water fishing's the biggest sport in the UK participation wise is it it is fucking not I want proof of that somebody's been on chat I'm telling you it's not

1:03:00Paddy McGuinness:remember when Google that Dave Seam is going fishing every day in England.

1:03:05Paul Scholes:I'm saying, is it a sport?

1:03:06Nicky Butt:We'll get Dave Seam around, he'll tell you how difficult it is.

1:03:08Paul Scholes:Is it a sport, though? I don't know.

1:03:10Paddy McGuinness:What, fishing? No, fishing is difficult. It's a fucking World Cup. Fishing is difficult to get to the top and do it great, but anyone can fucking fish it.

1:03:18Nicky Butt:Anyone can fish. No, but you can't pull a fish out, though. That's my point. Of course you can. You can.

1:03:23Paul Scholes:Yeah, you can. Of course you can. You can take your net and fucking whip one out, couldn't you?

1:03:29Nicky Butt:Yeah, if you're in the fucking Bahamas where it's crystal clear. You go down to fucking Manchester Lodges and get a net out, all you're scooping out is Johnny's and a fucking Aldi bag. Which is the same thing, really.

1:03:43Paul Scholes:I used to go to my nana's and Miles Platton, there's like the river, isn't there, obviously? And you just take a net, you can catch them.

1:03:49Nicky Butt:They're all down there with the cups of sprout juice. Move on. Move on here. I don't know if you're that big, but you caught a fish, aren't you? That's fishing. Would you say surfing's up there? Surfing. Yeah, to stand on it, to get on it and try it, yeah. It's difficult, isn't it?

1:04:01Paul Scholes:And this sport you don't do is going to be up there, isn't it?

1:04:04Nicky Butt:No. Golf. Yeah, but most people can pick a club up. Not saying they're swinging it right, but can swing a club. That's my point. You can have a go at it. It's like you said. But surfing, you can't just get in the water, jump up on a surfboard, even not surf, just stand there. You can. No, you can't. You can. I'll tell you what, I'll fucking take him down to a swimming bath.

1:04:26Paddy McGuinness:I bet you I could sit on a surfboard on this floor here.

1:04:29Paul Scholes:you talk about the levels of being able to do it there's no levels we can all jump on a surfboard and get in the sea no you can't you can because you have that strap no you can lie on it on your stomach

1:04:39Nicky Butt:but as soon as you stand up you're in you can't just stand up

1:04:43Paul Scholes:you don't have a strap on your arm

1:04:44Nicky Butt:you don't have it on your leg you don't have it on your leg you don't have it on your leg right my last one my last one surf dude my last one surf dude figure skating that's a fucking now you put a pair of ice skates on try and just stand on an ice rink so you went straight on an ice rink like fucking Robin Cousins and just went round it altering him

1:05:03Paddy McGuinness:you used to hold that penguin and go round on that little penguin

1:05:05Nicky Butt:yeah but when you first put ice skates on and walk onto an ice rink you're not stood there do you not with your head again you're not just stood there are you

1:05:15Paul Scholes:no you can walk around though can't you at first no

1:05:18Nicky Butt:well you're only about walk around I bet you're all nonset side straight away like most people

1:05:24Paul Scholes:probably at first yeah but like that's my point after five minutes

1:05:26Nicky Butt:This is the point of the whole argument about the hardest things to just do. Certain sports you can't just do. That's my argument.

1:05:36Paddy McGuinness:You're contradicting yourself there. No, I'm not. Anyone can do that with boxing. Anyone can do that. Anyone can do that. You're not going to get you a championship. You're not going to win a boxing match. All right, I'll give you that.

1:05:45Nicky Butt:I'll take boxing out, but you can't just fish because you wouldn't know what to do. You can't fish. No, you can't. You wouldn't know what to do. You wouldn't know what to do. You can go out of here and fish now. Easily. you're going back to like tying a bit of string around your toe and going to sleep and have I got a bite I'm on about picking a fucking fish putting it together you wouldn't know how to do that you wouldn't know what I've whacked a reel on I'd have to just buy one

1:06:07Paul Scholes:that's already together

1:06:08Nicky Butt:I'd just buy a net fucking if David Seaman's watching this please get in touch with us Jimmy Bullard Jimmy Bullard's a big fish yeah exactly it's tricky you've got in fact I forgot what you fucking said now did you say gymnastics gymnastics triathlon what about snooker triathlon for me yeah I said that the Ironman thing triathlon but using the same logic you can get on a bike and pedal not everyone can pedal

1:06:35Paul Scholes:and you can run

1:06:36Nicky Butt:how many kids you see falling off bikes we're not going back to childhood where you have putting stabiliser on what about as an adult now if you've got no bikes

1:06:44Paddy McGuinness:you can't ride a fucking bike adults can't swim yeah that's a good point fathers can't swim yeah that's a good point

1:06:51Nicky Butt:can I put in a transfer request to the overlap

1:06:53Paddy McGuinness:let me just say something it's a really hypothetical question because some can talk about the levels are getting to that of boxing obviously I love boxing I'm not saying anyone can box what I'm saying is if you wanted to do a part of boxing most people can do it you go boxing gyms just do that but to get to an elite level no to get to an elite level I get the boxing one I get the I get the surfing one I get all that but most sports you can have a go at can't you you're not going to be great there was this question alright

1:07:20Nicky Butt:forget that fucking stupid forget having a go at Fucking paddy. Forget having a go at the sport then. Right, just what are the hardest sports? If you're top level at it, what are the hardest sports? Boxing. Boxing's number one. Yeah. Right, number two. Triathlon. No, not top level. Ironman. Hard to do. Ironman. Yeah, no, I think he's tougher than Ironman. Go on.

1:07:48Paul Scholes:Marathons, running marathons.

1:07:49Nicky Butt:No, well, that's a fucking... Yeah, marathon runner's got... I think marathon runner. An Ironman is a fucking marathon

1:07:54Paddy McGuinness:An Ironman's a marathon It's not a marathon It's not a marathon A marathon's easier Than an Ironman A swim and a bike

1:08:02Paul Scholes:No sorry wait a minute A marathon's easier Than an Ironman I know that's what you said But an Ironman is a marathon You know when you do an Ironman You've got to do a marathon as well And a swim And a bike No you don't That's my point You fucking do You do

1:08:12Nicky Butt:You do Right an Ironman Is a running A running Swimming A marathon A marathon They don't do a marathon They do a marathon

1:08:19Paddy McGuinness:They do a marathon It's coming up now What's the distance they do a marathon they do something like two miles

1:08:25Nicky Butt:thank you no that's not it two miles that's a swim that's a swim that's the swim considering of a two mile swim yeah 112 mile bike ride a 26.2 mile run which is a marathon tit alright it's up there it's up I only thought did you look up is that a mile running is that me no that's a triathlon fucking is that right right yeah alright then that's up in fact I've got to say that might be fucking harder than boxing yeah to go to the elite level yes are we saying an Ironman yeah and woman sisters is the top one then yes yeah

1:09:07Paddy McGuinness:for me yeah

1:09:07Nicky Butt:yes

1:09:09Paddy McGuinness:well let's stop let's leave the we've all agreed because that doesn't happen because that was a shit show Paddy don't ever bring anything like that into this environment again well can I just say

1:09:18Nicky Butt:it came from the fucking people behind the Wizard of Oz over there behind the curtain, hidden away. They went, hey, why don't you talk about sports? I thought, oh yeah, that'll be all right. And then halfway through, even though I was arguing the toss about fishing, I thought, I'm on a losing battle here.

1:09:34Paddy McGuinness:No, to be fair, I've got to be honest with you though, fishing's harder than Ironman, innit?

1:09:39Paul Scholes:Imagine the train going.

1:09:40Paddy McGuinness:Oh no, and a marathon is harder than Ironman. Fishing and marathon, harder than Ironman.

1:09:46Nicky Butt:Forget all that, Ironman's the number one sport forget boxing forget fucking everything that's been said it's Ironman well is that that? that was mine are we done?

1:09:57Paul Scholes:golf's hard though isn't it? golf is hard isn't it?

1:10:01Nicky Butt:move on golf is hard but I've fucking lost let's be honest any sport I've lost Wilt whether it's fishing

1:10:08Paddy McGuinness:golf so don't get attacked by anybody if you want to get to the elite level that is difficult but what I'm getting at is everyone can try a sport it's not hard to put a fucking fishing rod in a water.

1:10:19Nicky Butt:I agree with you. We'll leave it at that. While we're being calm. So I'm right and you're wrong. No, I agree with you. What I'm saying is, though... I'm right, you're wrong. I'm right, you're wrong. No, I'm right, you're wrong. No, because I'm not agreeing with... Fucking... I quite like that. What I'm saying is... The sport that... Golf, every sport's hard, we know that, at the highest level. But certain things you can have a go at. You can have a go at running. I can walk across this fucking thing with skis on I've never skied in my life but I can easily not in the snow you couldn't apparently you can't

1:10:53Paddy McGuinness:not in the snow you couldn't I'm standing by that

1:10:55Nicky Butt:no but you never said snow did you well why the fuck would you have skis on with no snow no we said in here we said in here we said in here I could put snowboard on in here and hop to the fucking door but I couldn't do it on snow and I've acknowledged that that's like saying you could put a surfboard surfboard surfboard what's a surfboard what's a fucking surfboard

1:11:15Paddy McGuinness:oh stop pulling me up But literally, I could get a fishing rod and put it in a bucket with six fish and to catch a fish. Same fucking terminology, what you're saying. No, no, no.

1:11:25Paul Scholes:How did you catch a fish to put them in the bucket? Oh, I like that.

1:11:28Paddy McGuinness:I didn't. I like that. Aquarium Dave did. Jimmy Bullhead did. Aquarium Dave at Bolton did.
