In short
The Hauraki Big Show (Jase, Mike, Keezy) covers three things: dating-app advice, a sinkhole community call-out, and “Come Dine With The Fellas” planning.
Guest
none named as a formal guest; the show hosts themselves plus callers/texters. Key guest background: “Anonymous” (Meetpattynip69) is a 42-year-old Auckland man after an amicable breakup, using Hinge and Bumble and trying not to ghost 12 women. Claims: don’t overthink rejection—ghosting is normal; give a fast “no” to avoid a slow no and let people move on; expect some “nut bars” on apps. Examples: swiping left/right; “public service” rejection. Sinkhole: Mogey’s 5x5m, 3–4m deep sinkhole worsened since 2023; he asks locals to dump odds and sods (organic waste, couches, even an Aqua) and mentions asbestos sheets.
Notable examples
portacom for workers; council metal-sheet patch.

0:06Keyzie:R.E.M. there on the Hauraki Big Show this Monday evening. Let's give out some advice, fellas.
0:14Mike Minogue:Howdy, Nick. Six to nine. At gmail.com. Get in touch with the fellas. Jase's making a peek at me over there.
0:28Mike Minogue:Just for context, Mogey gets a fright whenever Jase yells out. Not every time, but sometimes I do.
0:34Keyzie:Is that your little milky Milo there, Mogey? No, an interesting story about this, Jase is just talking to a, it's actually a Meadow Fresh. Oh, right, okay. Which is just a small 250ml of milk, vanilla flavoured. And Stephen Adams came in earlier on today. Yes, with Beck. And he's left this behind. He signed it, I think. And he signed it for Jerry. I signed up for Jerry and I was instructed not to drink it. But I'm tempted. No, don't. You know what Jerry's like. He loves seafood. Well, I mean, he'll still have the box. Well, that's the important thing, surely. Anywho.
1:07Mike Minogue:Anyway, we're getting sidetracked by a box of milk. A guy's written in here. It's a really good question. Meetpattynip69 at gmail.com. And because of this, it's 100 % anonymous. He will get a re-burger voucher, which is pretty cool. Wow. G'day, fellas. Here's my predicament. I live in Auckland. I'm a 42-year-old bloke. I am back on the dating scene after a recent amicable breakup. She broke up with him. Trying to find love on two dating apps, Hinge and Bumble. Sometimes women connect with me on these apps. I don't decline about half of them. So you accept half of them. Yeah. Now, because I'm a nice person, I don't like to ghost people.
1:41Mike Minogue:It seems wrong to cut the cord and cut off the chat without really giving the person an opportunity to show me how wonderful they might be. In all seriousness, and I'm not trying to big myself up, I have too many connections. I have messages from about 12 women that I'm supposed to respond to and I don't want to sever any of them and disappoint them, it's taking up stupid amounts of time and making me glued to my phone. Right. Of course, I'm only going to find real connection with just one of these 12 ladies statistically. So what should I do? How do I let people down and determine which woman I should concentrate on?
2:08Thanks. Well, you spend a lot of time on the apps here, Keezy. I've been in a relationship since the apps came out, so I never got to indulge. Likewise. I've never been on a dating app in my life. I don't really know how they work.
2:20Mike Minogue:Well, I guess the difference is with me and him is that I'm still with my wife. That's right. So you have to be particularly careful about how you frame things. And so letting down people is important because you don't want them coming back and going, okay, well, I'm going to throw you under the bus and tell your wife what you're up to. Well, exactly. But also, and I'd say, obviously in my case, I've got a different name and stuff. Yeah, yeah. What is it again? Jeff. Oh, yeah. Your name is Jeff.
2:44Keyzie:I would have thought you should have run with Tony.
2:47Mike Minogue:No, my name's Jeff.
2:48Keyzie:Okay. Okay.
2:50Mike Minogue:So all I would say to Anonymous here is you're not letting anyone down. Everyone's used to it. Everyone on the apps is used to the same shit.
2:56Keyzie:Don't you just swipe and go, no?
2:59Mike Minogue:I don't know. Do you, Jase?
3:00Keyzie:Well, that's what I hear. You swipe left or right or something? On Tinder, yeah. There you go, man. Right, okay. It's not on either of those.
3:06Mike Minogue:So I would genuinely just say, like, don't overthink it. Everyone on the apps is going through the same experience, and you're not letting anyone down by ghosting people. I would just say, and this is dating in the real world as well, Jase. Yes. You're better off giving them a fast no than a slow no. 100%. All of these ladies, well, they might be looking for other things, but potentially, assuming they're probably looking for love. Yeah. And so if you're going to bugger them around, you're denying them an opportunity to get on with their lives and find the person that is right for them. So treat it as a public service.
3:42Buggering them around is what you want to be avoiding. So just be quick. Get on with it. No harm, no foul. They'll appreciate the promptness, I'm sure. Some of them will be psychos, though, 100%. Oh, well, I don't know about 100%. No, not 100 % of them, but there will be a percentage. I mean, if you're dealing with 12, at least one is going to be an absolute nut bar. But the same goes for men. And, in fact, I would say less men, there will be a higher percentage of psychos. I'm not saying it's only woman here. I'm saying it's people in general. Well done, mate. You see what I'm saying? Yeah, man.
4:13What do you think, Jase? You think it's a higher percentage of woman, don't you?
4:16Mike Minogue:Yeah, you were saying I'll be there. Yeah. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
4:30Mike Minogue:It's Beer and Pie July on Radio Hauraki.
4:34Keyzie:Yes, that's right, you massive backbones. another$250 cash, cash, cash to give away.
4:39Mike Minogue:Dad's Pies Proudly Bake Award-Winning Prize. Damn it. Oh, for God's sake. Hang on. Just pack it up, man. Dad's Pies Proudly Bakes Award-Winning Pies for pie-loving New Zealanders. I've just got the memory of that. Yeah, it's just... No, I know, but I redid it, and if we just... Pugs, in the podcast, when you make the podcast of the show, can you shorten that down so that the mistake's not in there? Thanks, man.
5:04Keyzie:We'll end up with about a 10-minute show.
5:06Mike Minogue:What, if you did out all my mistakes? Yes. Hey, fellas, should we give away$250? Cash, cash, cash.
5:12Keyzie:G'day, Tommy, you mad barton. How's life? Oh, pretty good. Howdy cheers, yourself? Yeah, good, thanks. Good, thanks, mate. What do you do for a crust, Tommy? I'm a panel beater. Oh, yeah. Oh, backbone. I need a panel beater. My daughter did the classic thing, mate, of exiting our apartment and did the big scrape along the door there.
5:36Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah, that'll catch you.
5:38Keyzie:Yeah.
5:38Mike Minogue:Well, Tommy, to be honest, it's gone along the rear door there. It's also gone along the back panel. There's a lot of work that needs to be done there, mate. Oh, yeah, just scrap it. Just scrap it. Well, on the bright side, Tommy, you can charge this guy whatever you want and he'll pay it. Oh, yeah. Yeah, he's one of those. Yeah, what am I looking at, Tommy?
6:01Keyzie:What am I looking at price-wise there?
6:06Mike Minogue:You know, maybe five, six grand. Yeah, that's a good deal, Jase. 10, 20 grand. 20, we'll go 20. 20 grand. Pocket change, man. How about this, Tommy? 20 grand and make sure you just absolutely bog it up, all right? Yeah, yeah.
6:21Keyzie:There'll be no repairs. It'll just be bog. Yeah, good on you. Hey, Tommy, when you're having a bit of a break, some time for Tommy as I like. Tommy time. Tommy time. What sort of pie do you like to run with?
6:35Mike Minogue:The old muscle chowder. Oh, wow. Flash guy. Yeah. I don't know. Pretty good. No, you're off your head. You've got to try it, mate. Union Road Bakery. Is that the go, is it? Yeah, it's pretty good. Right. I don't know. The thing for me, though, is I don't really trust a seafood. I need to know that it's come straight out of the way. As soon as things have been frozen or anything like that, I'm out. Yeah, yeah. I'm out. It's a bit hit and miss, but I haven't been sick yet. Yeah, good on you, mate.
7:03Keyzie:Hey, well, great news for you, Tommy. You just won yourself$250, mate.
7:07Mike Minogue:Okay, thanks, lad. Good on you, mate. And Horty J will be in touch, mate, and he'll wire that$20 ,000 to you tonight. Oh, perfect. Good on you, mate. No worries. That's a good deal, Jase.
7:17Keyzie:$20 ,000, is it?
7:18Mike Minogue:Honestly, yeah, to fix that scratch on the side of your car, 100%. Yeah. My dad's a former panel bidder, so trust me. Yeah, that's a good deal. How much is your car worth? About 10 or 11. Yeah, perfect. Done. Oh, and hey, fellas, don't forget, Dad's Pies proudly bakes award-winning crop. He's done it again. Just don't worry about it. The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
7:50Keyzie:Green day there on the Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday evening. The time is 5.36. Fellas, there's been a bit of an issue around my place and my neighbourhood there, and she's not a goodie. Right outside my front door, a few days ago, we had a sinkhole up here. Yeah, wow. Now, right outside the door, she's a big bastard there, fellas, and a few years ago they had an issue with the big floods that happened up here, you'll remember. Yes. And this is sort of a street where there's a bit of a basin at the bottom of it, So you come down a hill, you come into the basin, and you go up a hill. So the water settled there, created a lot of erosion at the time.
8:31That was 2023. God, time flies. Sure does. Time flies.
8:34Mike Minogue:That was the weekend of my wedding. Oh! That we weren't invited to. Yeah, we weren't invited to that, were we? I remember that. I remember that very clearly. Anyway, the way that the council dealt with it was they put over one of those – you've seen those metal sheets? The sheets are metal? Oh, yeah. They just put that over the top of the hole. Yeah. You just drive over the metal sheets. Oh, that's clever. That sorted that out. Yeah, I mean, problem solved. Anyway, it's been like that for three years. Oh, wow, that's good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So it's held up. Oh, yeah, no, they're all over. Anyway, surprise, surprise, it's gotten worse.

9:03Oh, wow. And the sinkhole is now five metres by five metres, three to four metres deep. Far out. You know, a lot of the locals around there, and they come over to me and they say, Mogi, like old Bobby Skelton, one of my neighbours there. He's an old fella, Jay, sure you remember him. Yeah, old Bobby, sure. He comes over to me and he says, mate, what are we going to do? You know, the infrastructure's shot. You've got all these clay pipes down here, 130-year-old. What happens in the next big weather event? The big rain comes through here. It's only going to make things infinitely worse. Amen, Bobby.
9:39And I'm walking past here to drop my daughter off to school the other day with the wife, and they're dropping off a portacom, a lunchroom. Right. Right? So these guys, for the workers there. Now, you don't see that very often. Normally, they have to sit on the road. They've dropped a portacom off there. These guys are going to be there for months and months and months.
9:58Mike Minogue:Sounds like it must be, yeah. Do you know what they call that, Keezy? What's that? She's a big job. Oh, really? She's a big job. So I've had a word with old Bobby Skelton there, and we've decided that we're just going to fill it up with odds and sods from sort of around the neighbourhood there. So I've been putting my sort of my orange peels, food scraps. You're nice. Organic. Grass clippings. Coffee grounds. Yeah, recycling. A couple of old couches. an old shitbox sort of lawnmower, bung that in there. So you've turned into it? I put my, the old, you remember the Aqua? Your Toyota Aqua, yeah, yeah.
10:32The Aqua's gone in there. Yeah, nice. And I'm just, I'm doing a bit of a call out, so it's a bit of a public service announcement. I just need people to come off and just drop off anything you can think of and just chuck it down this bloody sinkhole for us.
10:44Keyzie:Well, funny you should say that, Mark. I was speaking to my wife just yesterday. We've got a lot of stuff in storage we don't need. So I might, if it's all G by you, just fill up the boot and come around and dump it off if that's okay. Look, absolutely. We've been in touch with different building suppliers. We've got a whole bunch of asbestos sheets getting dropped in there. Yeah, yeah. Anything you can get your hands on, just pop it in there. And that's all G?
11:07Mike Minogue:Huh? And it's all G? Well, you'll be amazed what you can cover up under the cover of night, Keezy. Yeah, right. You get out there and because the local guys there, the contractors, they hate it when you start pulling down the fences and start buggering around in that big hole there. Yeah, okay. But in the middle of the night, you often find they've gone home. Yeah, often. So we just chuck in anything we can fit down there really because, yeah, what happens in the next rain? Well, exactly. So what, should we get people 3, 4, 8, 3, have you got anything you'd like to chuck into the sinkhole that you could because it'll help?
11:40I'm happy to come and pick it up. And, yeah, we've just got to sort it out. But, yeah, Keokaha as well to Auckland City Council. They've just knocked that one out of the park.
11:49Mike Minogue:Yeah, good stuff. 3483. What have you got to throw into Mogey's sinkhole? Every text in the drawer for a$50 Reburger voucher.
11:56Keyzie:In the meantime, here's Rage Against the Machine.
12:00Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
12:05Keyzie:Metallica there on the Hauraki Big Show. Mate, for some reason my headphones aren't working. But anyway, oh, there you go. They weren't plugged in, fellas. Hey, now listen, the first Come Dine With Me is happening this weekend. What is that, I hear you ask? Well, each of us here on the show is going to host all the fellas and their partners for a meal. Yes. Based on the popular show Come Dine With Me. Come Dine With The Fellas. Seems the name of it is Come Dine With The Fellas. We've been calling it the wrong thing this whole time. Yes. So the first cab off the rank is Old Mogey. The Old Mogey.
12:44This weekend. Now, the way it gets scored is you do your entree, you do your main, and you do a dessert. There's also options here to have an entertainment section and also a theme. A theme. We've been invited to something, and that's got a Las Vegas theme, I think, or something along those lines. They do it sort of on occasion, because I'm a big fan of Come Down With Me, and sometimes they do the theme, sometimes they don't, and I'm just sort of tossing up what we should do. Yeah. I've got a couple of ideas. I'll just sort of run it past you. How about we go formal, so black tie? Okay. Okay, and then for the wives, sexy.
13:27And partners, wives and partners.
13:29Mike Minogue:Yeah, right, okay. What do you think about that? That's just my first idea. What do you mean sexy? Like lingerie or something? Well, you know what sexiest is. It's up to interpretation. So I show up. I'm certainly not going to tell people what to wear. Right. But then, yeah. So I show up in a suit and my wife's there in lingerie. Well, that's taking it to the extreme. Well, I'm just asking the question. I have no idea. What the hell does that mean? Well, I give you the theme. I'm not going to tell you what to wear. I'm making the meal. Can I go? I'm a bit busy to come and dress your wife. Can I wear sexy?
14:00I mean, I'd rather you didn't. Well, you can, but the theme for you is, you know. Black tie. Black tie. I like it.
14:10Keyzie:because my wife's come up with a very similar kind of theme. For when you host? For when we host.
14:16Mike Minogue:Which is what?
14:17Keyzie:Keys in the bowl. See, I like that. Thank you, Mogi. Yeah. And initially I was... Continue. Initially I was like, Doug, what? Yeah. And I thought, actually... Your odds are pretty good. It's pretty good. What weekend was that? Well, we haven't decided when I'm doing it yet. And I mean, can I just say, just to assure you, fellas, we haven't agreed on that as a theme. Yeah. That was just an idea that was being tossed around. Yeah.
14:48Mike Minogue:Because, like, just to show where I'm coming at this, you know, from. Yeah, what were your ideas for this thing? The idea I had was, you know, we'd all come dressed as sort of your favourite actor. Oh. That was my theme. And what about for the wives? Well, they're within that. I don't know why we're separating the themes out.
15:11Keyzie:The other issue Oh, can we No, you go Is budget Oh, yes Because I'm thinking You know, old Keezy with his Game of Two Halves money He's got a big budget I probably don't have the same kind of budget Yeah Is that just something that you just sort of have to suck up? Is that the idea there?
15:30Mike Minogue:You just eat it You just, you put it on Like, Mogi's going to spend a fortune this weekend I'll spend a fortune when I host Right, okay.
15:37Keyzie:So there's no limit on what we can spend. No, you have to spend your year. Okay.
15:41Mike Minogue:My wife's going to spend a fortune on lingerie. The Hauraki Beat Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
