In short
A comedic, surreal “did I just see the same person twice?” incident involving TV presenter John Campbell, followed by radio-host banter about posting an unflattering photo of Jace on Instagram, and a story about a strange medical emergency during an experimental piano gig.
Guest backgrounds
The episode features regular hosts Jace, Mike, and Keezy, plus “Pug Son” (Pugs/Old Pug Son) and “Old Mogey”/“Hoity J” as recurring on-air personalities.
Key claims
John Campbell appeared on Ponsonby Road, then again at a nearby supermarket ahead of the hosts’ arrival; the Instagram “protocol” is to post the worst photo of Jace; at a church gig, an audience member allegedly yelled for an ambulance mid-performance, but the pianist kept playing.
Notable examples
Ponsonby supermarket shopping; double-denim Instagram post; Kelly Moran experimental piano performance in a church near Mount Eden; alleged ambulance call during a long instrumental piece.

0:06Keyzie:Velvet Revolver there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Monday evening. The time is 15 minutes past 6 o 'clock and fellas, something happened today that really freaked me out. Funnily enough actually, as we were talking at the opening of this hour, I bought some bang bang chicken today. Yeah. Anyway, this is entirely true, this story. That'll make a change.
0:37Mike Minogue:I was going to say, isn't everything we say on here true?
0:40Keyzie:Sometimes we charm it up a bit, Keezy. Okay. So my wife and I were driving in her car around a very popular sort of area close to the city. I'm not going to go into specifics. Ponsonby?
0:56Mike Minogue:Maybe. Ponsonby. It's definitely Ponsonby.
0:59Keyzie:And we were at the lights. And I was in the passenger seat and out of the corner of my eye, walking along the street, I saw none other than John Campbell. And I said to my wife, I think that's John Campbell. And she went, yeah, it is too. And then what did you say? I went, yeah, definitely. Oh, yeah. Did she say anything to that? And she said, are you friends with him? And I went, no, not really. But that was all G. So we kept driving for about ten more minutes. Ten more minutes to our location, the supermarket. I won't specify what supermarket, all right?
1:45Mike Minogue:My guess is Farrow and Grey Lady. Yeah, Farrow's.
1:48Keyzie:Took us ten minutes to drive there. We walk in to the supermarket. I grab a basket, getting a few fruit and veg. I turn around the aisle and it's like, you were kidding me. John Campbell was standing in the aisle and I was like, what the actual?
2:17And I said to my wife, honey, honey, over here, quick.
2:23Mike Minogue:She was like, we've already got honey.
2:25Keyzie:We do, actually. We've got two jars. Rich guy. And I said, look, check this out. John Campbell again. And she was like, yeah. And I was like, we just saw him walking along an unknown street in a certain district that I won't get into. Ponsonby Road. And then all of a sudden, he's here in the aisle with a half full basket. That was the other thing. So I'd been shopping for a while. And I was like, how does that happen? We were in the car driving directly to said supermarket. He was walking along the street. And somehow he then turns up at the supermarket before us and he's already done half his shopping.
3:17Mike Minogue:Might be because it took you 10 minutes to get there, but that's a five minute drive.
3:25Mike Minogue:Either that or he's got a body double.
3:29Keyzie:That's what I wondered.
3:30Mike Minogue:Yeah. The body double? Either that or none of this happened and you spent the whole day sitting on your couch watching TV and you're losing it. Could be that. I still think it might be the body double though.
3:44Keyzie:What? It's been suggested, Keezy. He's a very busy man. Oh, yes. And, you know, he's the man of the people as he's known. And I'm wondering, is there two John Campbells? Do you freak out a wee bit? But the thing that freaked me out about it, if that's the case, he was dressed exactly the same. You'd have to to sell it. Yeah. But then how would you know, though, if you only saw one of the John Campbells? Yeah. And then you didn't see the second one. I mean, he could be wearing a completely different outfit. But you'd never know because you never saw the second one. and you only saw the first one.
4:20Keyzie:Yeah. And on that, if that were true, they'd have to coordinate and have matching wardrobes. I'll go to the toilet. I'll be back in a minute.
4:31Mike Minogue:Bye, Maggie. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
4:36Keyzie:Yes, indeed. Pearl Jam there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Tuesday night. Now, fellas, I know this isn't on our schedule for today, but boy, oh, boy, do I have a bone to pick. He's got a bone to pick. And it's in relation to a post that was just put on our Instagram account, the Radio Hauraki Big Show. Yes. Where old Pug Son, who joins us now. Ooh, it's Pug Son. Evening, fellas. How are you? Posted a photo of you two fellas, Keezy and Old Mogey, and you're double-denimed. Oh, yeah, that was a nice photo. So handsome. Sex machine. Yeah, I think that was a good photo. Oh, dude.
5:21Mike Minogue:Massively. Yeah. Oh, yes.
5:24Keyzie:And I was like, good looking fellas there.
5:27Mike Minogue:Thank you.
5:28Keyzie:And then in the same post, there's a post of old Hoardy J. Within a post, a post within a post. And it was the most, a photo of Hoardy J. There's you two fellas. There's two photos of you two fellas and then a photo of me. And it's horrendous. You don't look well. It is. Wow. And horrendous photo. I don't remember seeing this, James. And I said to Pugs, Pugs, what the hell, man? That is a horrific photo of me. And he went, yeah, I know. Are you talking about this one? Yes. And he said, yeah, I know. So he knew it was horrific and he posted it anyway.
6:08Mike Minogue:I think, and put me right if I'm wrong here, Pugson. Sure. But if it was a good photo, it wouldn't have gone up.
6:16Jason Hoyte:Well, that's not entirely true because I thought the photo of you and Chris was really good. Oh, yeah, no, but in particular of Jase. Yeah, no, you're right.
6:23Mike Minogue:So if it's awful, it goes up. Boom. Do you want to, Jase, would it make you feel more comfortable if we put in place some sort of protocol? I think so, Kesey. Okay, so Pugs. Hello. What is the current protocol for posting photos of Jase?
6:37Jason Hoyte:You know, it's a pretty high pressure industry, this media one of ours. Oh, wait a minute, man. Jase. and in that moment I needed to get a post up and I thought, Shivers, I've got this photo of Keezy and Mogi. Yes. Where is the crucial third component to the show? I need to get up a photo of Jase in that post, a post within a post, if you will. And I thought, Shivers, here he comes in now, through the door, boom, snap, up in the post, ready to go.
7:03Mike Minogue:Right, so you didn't even look at the photo, you just said, boom, we've ticked all the posts. Can I just say that he looked at the photo and then threw his head back and laughed heartily. Right, so am I right in saying that the current protocol for posting a photo of Jase is take as shit of a photo as possible and then just post it. Yeah.
7:21Jason Hoyte:Yeah, that's pretty much, yeah.
7:22Mike Minogue:Okay, I'm actually happy with that protocol. Jase, what are your thoughts? It works for me. Yeah, I like it.
7:25Keyzie:Well, you know, the way I'm sort of viewing a vote. No, we shall not go to a vote because there's plenty of opportunities for you to take cool photos of Hoity J. Hey, man, I'm looking sharp at the moment and you deliberately cracked out a wide wonky lens. 0.5. You put it right above my snozz. As I walked in the door and just snapped it,
7:50Jason Hoyte:I look like I'm dying for God's sake. Can I just say we got as much of your outfit in the photo as possible because of that angle? So we actually got your cool black jacket, your boys' trip hat, and your black shirt with white buttons. Yeah.
8:02Mike Minogue:Jase, simple question. You're welcome. Do you want, would you like Pugs to take the post down? Yes. No, I think it would just be ridiculous, to be honest. It's really unreasonable. Yeah, it's being very unreasonable. Mogi, what do we think? All those in favour of keeping it up? Aye. All those in favour of taking it down? No one. Me? That's weird. Okay, leave it up there. In fact, I'm going to put 200 bucks of my own money behind it. Let's get that thing boosted. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
8:35Keyzie:New order there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday evening. The time is 5.49.
8:42Mike Minogue:Hoity Joe, you might not know this, but Pugs has been very busy lately. Yes. After work. In fact, last night, Pugs, you went to a gig, didn't you?
8:50Jason Hoyte:Yeah, I did. And Prebs actually went there as well. So it was myself plus one. My partner came along and Prebs was also there. He cuts loose at gigs old Prebs, doesn't he? This one, he was out of control. Yeah, boy. Yeah, so it was a pianist in a church. Pardon? The gig was a pianist that had come over from America and it was hosted in a church. A pianist in a church. It was a pianist and she was performing the piano in the church around about near where I live in Mount Eden. Wow. Okay, nice. She's come over from America. She's known for Experimental Piano. Kelly Moran's her name. It's not my usual kind of gig, if I'm honest, but it was a really, really beautiful transcendental gig.
9:33Jason Hoyte:Jase, you would have loved it. Yeah, I love it. Because I know you like your emotive piano tunes.
9:36Keyzie:I do very much so. Claire DeLune.
9:40Mike Minogue:Yeah. What was the name of that guy whose album you learned to play on piano from start to finish? Oh, Paul Buchanan. Yeah, you nailed that. So, Pugs, you said something weird happened at this gig?
9:50Jason Hoyte:Oh, it was very strange. Okay, so imagine you're in a small church, so obviously high ceilings, but you can kind of see everybody because everybody's in the pews. Yeah. And maybe about halfway through the gig, she's doing one of these like 10-minute long piano pieces, very emotive. She's really feeling it. We're all feeling it. You know, it's quiet. There's no vocals. It's all instrumental. It sounds so punishing, but yeah, okay, yeah. It was quite beautiful. Yeah. And maybe halfway through, my partner goes, I've really got to go to the bathroom. But it's like there hasn't been applause in ages because the songs are so bloody long.

10:20Jason Hoyte:And I'm like, you've just got to go. You've really just got to get up and go. She gets up and goes. The minute she walks out the door and goes to the bathroom, I hear a cry out. And I'm in the middle of the crowd. I'm like, okay, maybe someone's really just feeling it. Then I see a woman stand up Sort of like right front Not front centre, maybe second row back And goes
10:41Mike Minogue:We need an ambulance now
10:43Jason Hoyte:Wow, in the middle of the piano piece
10:46Mike Minogue:Really?
10:47Jason Hoyte:Yeah, I've never seen anything like it Did she stop playing? She did not stop playing Someone said we need a doctor We need an ambulance now, I'm talking full volume Everybody's kind of looking around Going what the hell is this, a couple more people get up And in my head I'm thinking Okay, someone's having a medical event, so they obviously just need to get some help, maybe ferry this person out. And then so a guy gets up, goes out to call an ambulance. I see him on the phone. And then he comes back in, checks again. It's like da-da-da. She's playing, but she's kind of looking. She's kind of trying to assess the situation, whether or not she stops.
11:19Jason Hoyte:Maybe like five, ten minutes go by. Amelia comes back. Oh, sorry, my partner. Comes back in. She sits down at the end of her row. He comes back in. Nothing happens. So was the person okay? No idea. So this whole massive kerfuffle in the middle of the song, she doesn't stop playing. You've got a woman yelling at full pelt to call an ambulance to get medical help or get a doctor. Someone goes out, calls an ambulance. He comes back in on the phone and he looks. All I saw was him look down the pew where the person in question was and sort of look and then go and then go to the phone. What the hell happened?
11:54Jason Hoyte:I have no idea. Hello.
11:55Keyzie:Don't take this the wrong way.
11:58Mike Minogue:I feel like he's going to, but carry on.
12:00Keyzie:Just to tell you, because I know. What makes you say that? I know how you like to go to gigs and stuff. Were you maybe on some kind of.
12:15Mike Minogue:Ah, extracurricular.
12:17Keyzie:Extracurricular. And that none of this actually occurred.
12:23Mike Minogue:It sounds like a made-up story, doesn't it? At church. Yeah. At the church pianist gig with prebs.
12:28Keyzie:What actually happened was you were in the pew and you just wet your pants.
12:34Jason Hoyte:I did wonder why it was very moist.
12:37Mike Minogue:And maybe the reason they were calling an ambulance is because you were wearing your sick vest. Someone was like, call an ambulance. That vest is sick. Maybe that's what happened. No, that's far-fetched. That would never happen. That would never happen. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
