In short
Advice and listener stories on The Hauraki Big Show, including “MeetPaddyNips69” anonymous advice emails, kids’ birthday party chaos, and a horror phone-repair saga.
Guests/hosts
Jace, Mike, and Keezy (regular hosts). “Anonymous” caller/emailer (pseudonym) about a car-speaker incident. “Mogi” (Keezy/Jace’s segment reference) shares kids-party experiences. No other named guests.
Key claims
Screaming into a mic is a “hundy” or it’s pointless; mic-tech courses are available and hosts have done them. Burger vouchers are promised for advice emails read on air. Apple repairs require replacing entire camera modules (about $1,000–$1,200) instead of small glass.
Notable examples
Speaker blown after a hungover drive to Taupo; birthday parties where parents arrive late; iPhone 14 Pro camera glass shattered twice after a $69 back-alley repair, leading to insurance/Apple replacement logic.

0:06Keyzie:Alison Chains there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Monday evening. Let's give out some advice. Meet Paddy Nips 69.
0:19Mike Minogue:Get in touch with the fellas. Real email address meetpaddynips69 at gmail.com. If you need advice on anything, reach out 100 % anonymous. and if we read it on the radio,$50 Reburger voucher, which I think is quite nice. G'day, fellas. Anonymous here. Just emailing for some advice around an incident that happened to me this weekend. Now, just quickly. What was it? This is a few weeks old, this one. I was driving to Taupo, severely hungover, might I add, listening to the big show getting me through the three-hour drive. It comes to the end of G Lane versus a coin and Hoity Jizz decides to scream at the end, causing my car speakers to blow.
1:03Mike Minogue:Just wondering what you suggest I do. I'm leaning towards suing Hoity Janus for some of that dog squad money, but I would like to get your thoughts on the matter. Cheers. Yeah. Sorry to hear about that, man. Yeah, it's shocking.
1:15Keyzie:Wonder what kind of speakers he's running. Dead ones. Well, dead now. It was running. You're pretty good at that. You do love screaming straight into the mic. If you are going to scream, you do it a hundy. Yeah, that's true. I do. What's the point otherwise? Bogsy, who's the CEO of NZME, which is the company that owns Radio Horeki there, he's been trying to get Jase into some classes around mic technique for a few years now, and Jase is just not having it, are you, mate? You know, so many people, Mogi, over the years have given me jip about, you know, broadcasting school and all of that sort of jazz.
1:56Keyzie:I know. Whereas I came from the school of hard knocks. Yeah, the streets. You know, and I just went straight into it. I didn't have your fancy pants$85 ,000 course to go to. Can I just say, Jase, hang on. My parents paid for.
2:12Mike Minogue:Yes, Keezy. First of all, the school of hard knocks is not coming straight into it. Yeah. That's the easy way.
2:18Keyzie:I mean, I. You said you came straight into it. I did hard yards. I got life experience. Yeah. Okay. And that life experience then led me because of my beautiful voice to radio. Yeah.
2:32Mike Minogue:Have people been giving you jip about not doing broadcasting school?
2:34Keyzie:Oh, for years, mate. Rubbing it in your face, though. It's the same when you're an actor, you know. Did you go to, you know, a drama school down in Wellington? Nah.
2:42Mike Minogue:Nah.
2:42Keyzie:I just went and did auditions and I nailed them.
2:45Mike Minogue:So what do we do here? Because this is advice, obviously. Yeah. Do we sort of give him Hoody J's details and just say, Go around to his house, find his car, and just get his wallet out of the glove box? Help yourself. I think a Reburger voucher goes a long way to solving the problem. I was just going to say the same thing. What more do you want? 50 bucks, mate. Yeah, okay. A Reburger. And would you be open to mic technique courses? Yeah, totally. Because Mike and I have done them. They're really good at it. Oh, it's easy. When did you do yours, mate? My trick is I just keep on smacking the microphone sort of five or six times a break.
3:14People love it.
3:15Mike Minogue:Yeah, but that's his trademark thing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the tutor was actually really impressed by it. Oh, there you go. 50-lore reberg. Yeah, I think so. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
3:26Keyzie:Can I be honest? After the day I've had, I don't care.
3:30Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
3:34Keyzie:Nirvana there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Tuesday evening. The time is 5.41. G'day, fellas there. Hey, over the weekend, I had a real party session with my daughter. It's turned out that it's birthday party season. Oh, no.
3:51Mike Minogue:So hang on, is this one and a half mogies, man? It is. It is. OK.
4:12One and a half mogies. Now, the reason why I hesitated there was just as we started the break, my daughter, who's in the studio with us today, came up and tapped me on the shoulder and gave me the sign language to tell me that she urgently needs to go to the toilet. While she's been here, she's spilt three glasses of water on the floor and now I'm slightly concerned that she's going to defecate on it as well. But I guess we'll find out over the next two and a half minutes of content, eh, fellas? That'll be fine, mate. Anyway, we got invited. Now, this is on Thursday of last week, all in the space of about 20 minutes.
4:44My wife forwarded me from, she's left me, but she's still forwarding me all of these invites that have come through. Four invites for birthday parties for my daughter's classmates that were all happening over last weekend. Three on Saturday, one on Sunday. My daughter has got up again, and she is again urgently telling me that she needs to go to the toilet, so I'm going to have to go. You guys are going to have to talk amongst yourselves. I'm really sorry about that.
5:12Keyzie:No, that's fine, because we can bring Pugs on in this too, maybe, with our new technology. No, yeah, look, I remember, of course, Keezy, you'll know this about me having four girls' birthday parties were the bane of my life, mate.
5:28Mike Minogue:Sorry, just I can imagine, Jase, but just quickly, me, you and Pugson. Hi, guys. Doing one and a half. Doing one and a half. So we've started a segment.
5:39Keyzie:You guys ever need to go to the toilet? Oh, yeah, man, all the time.
5:42Mike Minogue:But we've started a segment that is very, very based around Mogi. Yes. And his daughter, Mogi Minogi, and he's just left. Yes. Okay. Now, you pick up though, you're doing well. This is radio, man.
5:53Keyzie:It is.
5:54Mike Minogue:This is live radio.
5:54Keyzie:Well, just on that, in terms of going to the toilet, I did a Pugsan this morning. Okay. Well, that's not why you brought me in here. A rapid tippy-toe to the bathroom. To the bathroom. To the bathroom. I didn't even go to my outer bathroom. I went to the en suite. It was so desperate. And I had a bit of an evacuation. But anyway, that's by the by. Jase, Jase. Getting back to kids' parties.
6:14Mike Minogue:Yeah, thank you.
6:15Keyzie:Of course, having four girls, we were absolutely battered with them day, or, you know, not day after day, but a lot. And basically what would happen is you'd go to these parties and drop your kid off and they'd say, oh, the party's going to finish at three and then you'd turn up at five.
6:32Mike Minogue:Right, so you'd leave it with the parents and you'd just skive off for a bit.
6:35Keyzie:Yeah, and then you'd have a party at your house and they'd drop all their kids off and you'd say, the party's going to finish at two. and then they'd come and pick them up at four and you'd F and Jeff all over the place and talk about what hideous people they were and what terrible parents they were to leave all the responsibility with us and be so late.
6:54Mike Minogue:Did you ever take them to any pool parties or anything? Pool parties.
6:59Keyzie:Actually, can you bring Pugs down there? James, you've got to answer this question. James, this is One and a Half Mogies,
7:04Mike Minogue:Kids Party Edition with the fellas.
7:06Keyzie:We did a lot of bouncy ball stuff. Right. You know, we did a lot of, what is that, the castle one with all the balls in it and the bouncy castle.
7:14Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah. Yeah, right.
7:15Keyzie:So we didn't really do pool parties. That was more, you know, when I was like 18 and 19 and 20. No, it's just because you're always saying you've spent heaps of time dropping the kids off at the pool. Can we put – can we just bring Pugs down here?
7:31Mike Minogue:Live radio. Okay, I'm just going to drop Pugs as Fader.
7:34Keyzie:Yeah, we actually did take them to the pool a fair amount.

7:38Mike Minogue:Sorry, are you talking about backing one out now or are you actual kids?
7:41Keyzie:No, my actual kids. You know, floaters and everything. It was great stuff.
7:46Mike Minogue:This is good, Jase. What you've managed to do is just talk about birthday parties and go to the toilet. Mogi's still not back. No. What we could do is put on a song. Oh, no, I'm really enjoying this. Here he comes. I want him to come back in and save the break. Yeah, yeah. Here he comes. Go, go, go. Here he comes.
8:04Keyzie:We should probably call it pretty soon, though. It's been going on a bit.
8:07Mike Minogue:No, no, but Mogi's going to come and just tell the rest of that story. Oh, you want to hear it, do you? Nah, let's go to the Rolling Stones. Oh, this is a tune, man. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
8:23Keyzie:The Black Crows there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday evening. Let's give out some advice. Keep that in it, 69.
8:37Keyzie:Get in touch with the fellas.
8:40Mike Minogue:Yeah, definitely do that. Meetpattynips69 at gmail.com. It's a real email address where you can ask for advice. 100 % anonymous, and if we read it on the radio, instant$50 re-burger voucher. And when I say instant, I mean give it a couple of weeks and it'll get to you eventually. Yes. The issue is, fellas, we've just been trawling, trawling through the emails there, and we've pretty much read out a lot of the ones that can be read out on the radio without us getting into trouble. I'm just looking over your shoulder there, Kizzy, at your screen. What's the filing system you're operating there? It just looks like everything exists in the inbox.
9:14You read it, it stays in the inbox. It's a shambles what you've got over there. Can I say that?
9:19Mike Minogue:So basically, if it's open, if it's been read, it means we've either done it or I've read it and it can't go on air. Sure. If it's bold still, I haven't read it yet or even opened it yet. Right. But I just opened about six in a row just then and it all had sort of references to stuff we can't really talk about on the radio.
9:37Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, we have to be conscious of that. There's also the situation too, Fial, it's where we're doing such a great job that maybe we've solved all the people's problems. That's what it feels like to me. You know what I mean? Because it's been going for a couple of months now.
9:51Mike Minogue:Yeah. Yeah, okay, so maybe we need to shut the segment down. I don't know.
9:56Keyzie:Well, it's like we've shot ourselves in the foot here a little bit. Well, as long as we can keep the sting. Yeah. I'm not so bothered about people's problems, but I've become quite attached to the sting.
10:06Mike Minogue:Right, well, we just have to find a new purpose for MeetPattyNips69. How do we crowbar that into the show if we're not using it as an email address? Well, maybe we could start using, people could send other things in. Recipes. Movies they liked. It doesn't have to be, maybe we could move away from problems. We could do something else. Yes. So, MeetPattyNips69 at gmail.com. I was going to say nudes. You realise what's going to say? Huh? What? Female nudes or male nudes? Like statues and things like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, photos of great paintings and sculptures.
10:39Keyzie:Over on Greece and stuff. Yes. Where you fellas are going very soon, by the way.
10:44Mike Minogue:I'm going to Greece, man.
10:45Keyzie:Oh.
10:47Mike Minogue:Are you? No. No. Man, you pay attention to us. But we could do that. Yeah, I worry, and we'll have to get Pugs on to go through it with a fine-toothed cone because filth will come in. Oh. Yeah, but he doesn't mind a bit of filth. No, he loves it. So that's a good idea, though. It's just a way for you guys to send us stuff if you want us to chat about it. It could even turn into an actual feedback, a bit of feedback on the show. Now, the better way to do that would be the talkback function, but for some reason people are allergic to using that. Well, it's pretty confusing. Yeah, it's baffling. Go on the iHeartRadio app, push the microphone, send it off.
11:26So that could be another thing. it's a way for our audience to speak directly to us without being limited by a text machine there you know what I mean?
11:38Keyzie:I know exactly what you mean Moggy that's great so listen I hope that helps so nudes recipes I love a recipe just anything really
11:49Mike Minogue:a poem just stuff like that or also advice if you need advice meetpattynap69gmail.com if you want a Reburger Voucher Man and it's the way to go about it. Well, good work, fellas. I think we've done well there. Yeah, I think we've handled it awesomely. And also, like, you as the audience, can you come to the party? Like, I mean, we're trying to do something here, and you guys can't even get off your ass and send us an email asking for a little bit of help. You can't tell me that all of you guys don't have problems. I've seen you at the live event. Yeah. Losers. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
12:24Keyzie:The Strokes here on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon, the time 4.36. Where does it go? Just flown by today, isn't it? Fellas, I've had an issue with my phone. It's broken in quite a few different ways. Oh, okay. I thought it was going to be buzies. No, no. No, no, that's cool. I just tend to let things go. So I had a crack in the screen, but it wasn't bad enough for me to do anything about it. And then, oh, the battery's horrendous. Right. So how bad? You can see it at a certain angle, you know? Do you know what I mean? It's got a crack on the screen.
12:57Mike Minogue:No, the battery, sorry. Oh, the battery, yeah. I was getting to it. Oh, right. 70%. It was down to 70 % of formerly what was, you know. Oh, wow. Yeah, so it runs out. She runs out pretty bloody quick. Shocking. And then on the back of it, it's an iPhone 14 Pro. Not to brag. That's a couple ago, that one. And those have got three lenses on the back. And on one of the lenses, the glass had shattered. Yes. Not the lens, mind you, just the glass over the top of the lens. So honestly, a piece of glass. A small circle. Yeah, exactly. So I took it to some, you know, back alley shady son of a bitch there.
13:3969 bucks he changed it for me because I couldn't, the camera wouldn't focus properly without that piece of glass over the top of it. It was driving me nuts. So I got that fixed. It was broken again in about, honestly, three hours. so thin and garbage was the glass that this guy put in. So I thought, oh, well, bugger it, I'll run it through the insurance. Run it through the insurance. They don't replace, Apple don't replace. So you go to a proper Apple parts joint. Like a certified. Certified, baby. They don't do just the glass there, which would cost you, let's say it worth$100. There's no way, but$100.
14:16They replace the entire three camera setup, which costs about$1 ,000 to$1 ,200.
14:22Mike Minogue:Wow. Yeah. They also were going to replace the screen. That was going to be$750. Bullshit. I knew one of those phones is$1 ,300. Wow. Now, you would think that they would just replace a little bit of glass. But I guess Apple was running yet another scam where they refused to replace it. They say, no, we have to replace the whole camera. And then all of a sudden, God knows how many millions of dollars being spent on that. Wow. But how many people are having a shocker, I want to know, with their phones and getting them repaired? So now that phone, there's nothing wrong with it. New battery, a couple of hundred bucks.
14:54In fact, the battery, I've got a price on that, 240 bucks. It's cheaper to get a car battery. It's cheaper to get a battery that runs a car than a battery that runs a phone.
15:07Mike Minogue:So what did you end up getting? Well, I ended up getting nothing in the end. Oh, right, okay. Well, in the end, I bought a 15. Yeah, right, okay. Yeah, I bought that and a cover, a new cover for it. Yeah. And then I realised that it didn't have a good camera on it, so I cancelled it just now. What about a Huawei? A who? A Huawei. How do you pronounce that? Huawei. Keezy, that's racist, man. Can you sound the alarm? Are you shocking?
15:35Keyzie:Racism alert. Racism alert. Well, I mean, that's just a phone I've got. What is it? Huawei. Huawei.
15:45Mike Minogue:Yeah, have you considered getting one of them? No.
15:47Keyzie:I mean, I've had this bastard for eight years, mate. Tickety-boo. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if you use it to its full capacity, do you? Well, I mean, I'm not like you guys. I'm not inundated with buzzies and stuff like that. So no, maybe not. Every time I see you dealing with it, you're trying to talk to Siri. There is no Siri on that phone. Nah. You are shitting me.
16:15Keyzie:It is Hawaii, eh? That is insanely expensive It is insanely expensive There's a whole industry around that stuff Where the batteries run out and you've got to replace them And all that jazz It's a rot Send us your horror phone stories in Keen as
