In short

A full episode of The Hauraki Big Show mixing workplace chaos, fashion hot takes, TV talk, travel plans, and health/vaccine advice.

Guests

No external guests. Hosts are Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue, and Keezy (absent due to illness). Keezy’s “lurgy” is mentioned; he may return tomorrow.

Key claims

  • A handyman cutting plywood “fake concrete” pillars set off hardwired fire alarms (no smoke—wood dust), triggering 3 fire engines and 14 firefighters; they debate fault and cost, citing prior $2,500 incident and possible ~$10,000 now.
  • Fashion “faux pas”: elderly couples matching outfits (especially tracksuits) and “bright black” tasselled boat shoes; also man buns, Crocs, overly short shorts, and mismatched sneakers/jeans (“sneens”).
  • Travel: TransAlpine trip details; Pugs is going to Vietnam and discusses required vaccines and “Doxypep” (doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis).

Notable examples

  • Fire alarm evacuation with repeated “There is a fire” voice; detectors triggered despite plastic/tape-covered other detectors.
  • Chip-sharing dispute among staff.
  • TV recommendations: Alan Partridge; DTF St. Louis; Married at First Sight Australia.

0:01The Hauraki Big Show with Toledos. From work days to workouts. It'll fuel your thirst. Welcome to the Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy. Oh, g'day you mad bastards. Great to have your company on this wet and moist Wednesday afternoon. It is the 11th of March, 2026. And you, my friends, as always, listening to The Big Show. Brought to you by Toledo's. All the good stuff. No nasties. Try Toledo's today.

0:39We actually thought of a good phrase for that today, didn't we, Mogi?

0:43Jase:Oh, did we? If you're having a shitter. Oh, having a shocker, have a Toledo's. Have a Toledo's. Just gives you that little bit of energy, you know what I mean? Yeah, totally. Speaking of energy, I'll tell you what's been giving me energy. watching you on the computer there with your tight T-shirt. I can literally see your abs pressing against the T-shirt. Boy, it's doing something for me, Moggy. I've got to be honest with you. Yeah, well, I'm going pretty grouse today, man. Yeah. I haven't had a shocker today at all. At all. We'll be getting into that shortly, but it did involve one of the emergency services coming into close contact with me and mine, so happy days there.

1:24Jase:But other than that, man, I'm having a ball. pounding away on my laptop, doing a little bit of work. Nice stuff, Yelts. Yeah, great stuff. How are you going, Pakistan? Of course, we should tell people, no Keezy today. He's got the Lurgy now. Yeah, so apparently he's picked up what you had, JC Reckons, which he's obviously thrilled about. I'm all good. Yeah. Thanks for asking. I'm pretty happy. Grateful to be here with you, fellas. It's always a busy day, but always happy to arrive at the big show. Yeah, totally, man. A massive show ahead, by the way. I'm looking at the program ahead, and it's huge.

1:53Speaking of which, Mogi, what is coming up?

2:00Jase:What's happening on The Big Show with old Mogi? Later on, we're going to be talking to a train driver. Choo-choo! Doosh-doosh! He's going to be the driver, I think, on the Trans Alpine. We're off on that little trip on Friday there. Pugs needs a little bit of car advice after his heap of shit packs up. Yeah. How about The Big Show Cars, man? Tell you what, man, we are absolutely killing it. Mine are going great guns, but you guys are having shockers at the moment. You see, this is what happens when you buy a car because of the look of the car, rather than the functionality of it. I knew the guy that had the brown leather seats and the weird grill and the cream, and then it got stolen, and that was like a saga on the big show for like a year.

2:43It didn't break down. It was stolen because it was so cool. That was you then, right? Yeah, me. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

2:50Jase:And also, fellas, next up we're going to begin into the fact that I had that shocker. Yes. Today got a handyman in and ended up with not one, not two, but three fire engines turning up at work. Here's Weezer. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Sheeha there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 13 minutes past four o 'clock. Fellas, I had something of a shocker today, I guess you could say. We had a little bit of work to do at an office, at my other work that I've got. So I got a handyman in. Oh, yeah. A handyman. And it wasn't difficult work, but it was beyond me, especially because I have neither the skills nor the time to get these sorts of things done.

3:36Jase:Nor the inclination. Nor the inclination. So one of the jobs was putting some shelves up. One of the other jobs was putting up these holders for some backdrops. Backdrops. One of the other jobs was some hooks for headphones. And one of the other jobs was we've got these fake pillars in our podcast studio, right? How cool. They're made out of plywood, but they're made to look like concrete pillars. And so we needed to shave off or cut off. They're about 300 by 300 square, long columns. We had to get rid of about 300 mil off the top of one of those bastards here. And when I say we, I mean him. And he said to me, where should I do that?

4:18Jase:Out on the street? And we're on a main street in Auckland. I said, nah, probably not the go, man. Just do it in that little hallway there by the toilet. She'll be all good. And he's like, righto. So in he goes there. He starts ripping him with a skill saw. All good. Well, next thing you know, the fire alarm's going off. And it's a hard wide and a whole building. So we're about three-storey, four-storey building. And the alarm's going off throughout the building. and it's followed by, there is a fire. This is a voice that's going out. There is a fire. Evacuate the building now. Then more siren.

4:53Jase:Then him repeating that over and over again. Now, I've gone running in to see what I can do. And what I think traditionally you do is you try and move the air away from the detector so that it stops. My handyman mate is just standing there sort of looking at it. The other guy that works with me, he came in and we're trying to wave this stuff away and this handyman's just going, oh, sorry, mate, sorry. It's, oh, you can help. You can also blow it off. We're opening and closing the door, you know, to try and suck, you know, how it's like a vacuum and it sucks all the air out when you do that. So we're doing that.

5:26Jase:Clears it out really well. But in those scenarios, does the fire alarm turn off if you actually clear it or is it just like? Well, it does with a smoke detector, but not with a hard-wired smoke alarm that goes directly to the fire service. Yes. So we come outside and we can hear fire sirens approaching. Three appliances turn up. Yes. 14 firemen. And I say firemen because they're all men. Can I just clarify here? The smoke, was that from the skills? There was no smoke. Oh, there was no smoke. It was particles in the air. Oh, okay. So wood dust. The detector was confused. Yes. so 14 firemen three appliances and every other business in our building out on the footpath absolutely few so yeah been a busy day been a busy day so that's a bit of a shocker and I'm just wondering how much I'm going to get charged for that I can't see it being free well we had an incident at our house about about eight years ago, and we had one fire truck turn up.

6:39That cost us$2 ,500. So what's that? Another seven years down the line. You're probably looking at a good... Inflation. Yeah, maybe$10 ,000 there, Moggy.

6:54Jase:That's good stuff. Do I get to take that off, that$10 ,000 off my handyman's bill? Invoice. The question becomes, is it my fault or is it his fault, or is it our fault? When you say our... I'm asking. Not yours, but mine and his. Well, he did offer to take it outside. He did, but on the street, on a main street with a skillset out in front of businesses on a main street in Auckland, to me it didn't feel like I thought we were being, you know... Yes. Better neighbours than that. And you'd need a massive extension cord. That's true. You know what I mean? That's absolutely true. There's also, it's a very small area, There's also a shower and a toilet, and both of those have got smoke detectors in them as well.

7:37Jase:So there's three in a very small space. Those other two were covered with plastic and masking tape. Right. So. After all that, Gareth on 3483 wants to know if the pillars look good. And so good. I mean, they've been cut on a massive angle. Let us know. So the mayor continues. 3483, every text in the drawer for a$50 cash prize from our mates at Toledo's. We want to know who's at fault here. Thank you. And how much those trucks are going to cost. Who's this, Jase? Supergrass. The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. Yes, indeed, the Black Keys air on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday afternoon.

8:22The time is 25 minutes past four o 'clock. An old Moogie has had a bit of a shocker. He got a handyman round to his workplace who was chopping up some pillars and accidentally set off the fire alarm, whereupon three fire engines turned up and 14 firefighters. One of the things I noticed with the pic that you sent us, there's so much admin that the firefighters are carrying. They've got these, it's like there's too much stuff, man.

8:49Jase:Well, there's too much stuff when there's no fire. Especially when there's no fire. I wondered about that as well, actually, when they turn up. Are they gutted that there's not a fire? They must be desperate to put out a fire. Yeah, you'd think so. Yeah, so anyway, we're just trying to work out whose fault it is. There's a text here, 3483. Take the backbone stance and blame it on anyone but yourself, Mogi. Yes. That's what I'm doing. I like that you've picked that text first. Someone here says that you should make the handyman pay because of something called public liability insurance, which I've never heard of.

9:21But you might want to look into that. So Gwyn wants to know, oh, another one on public liability insurance. There you go. That's two, Mogey. There we go. So you could ask about that.

9:30Jase:I can tell you what, this guy does not have public liability insurance. Yes. I don't even know what that is, to be honest. But what I'd do is if he sends an invoice, I'd just be like, I don't think so, my friend. Lol. Yeah, lol. Another one here, how many of the 14 firemen were rocking tashes? Probably 13. Yeah. In all honesty. Yeah, the text sort of went wayward after a bit. Did you take the opportunity to go get some shirtless pics with the fellas? No, I didn't. I had my head held in shame, to be completely honest with you. It was pretty embarrassing standing out on the street with fire alarms going off.

10:07Yeah, what did you talk to them about while you were out on the street there?

10:10Jase:Well, I did say to them, you know, what is this going to cost me? Because the first thing I thought was this is not going to be cheap. There'll be some kind of a fine for getting them out here. and they were just like, oh, you know, get us some beers if you like. Yeah, nice. Get us some whiskey. And I said, well, I can give you some stripper dollars because they've got the strippers right next door and that sort of killed the conversation. Killed the conversation straight away. Yeah, well, maybe some of them were strippers, Mogi. You know what I mean? It might have been, actually. They were hot.

10:40The fireman stripper. It's a very popular genre in terms of male stripping.

10:46Jase:No, I agree. I absolutely agree. I mean, I think it's fair to say in scenarios that I might have had in my boudoir, there might have been like a fireman scenario with old Hoity J dressed up in certain gears. Were you like dressed up as the damsel in distress? Yes. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Kesey. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. Nirvana there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show. this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 4.37. Fellas, can I just bring something up before we get into Pugsans? Hello. Travesty that happened to him today. I've noticed since I've been back the eating of chips.

11:37Small little packets of chips. Yeah. Mogi came in about half an hour ago with his own little packet and he ate them in the corner over there. Then I walked out to Studio B, and there's old Pugson with his own little packet of chippies in the corner there looking very suspicious. Then he tried to sort of hide them as I walked through. Wouldn't go that far. And I'm like, what's going on, fellas? Now, I think it's on the record that I've gone out on a limb for you guys, you backbones. Many, many times have I put my reputation at stake by blatantly stealing chips from boxes all around the office. I mean, what's happened here?

12:19I mean, I thought we were a team that we shared stuff. All of a sudden, it's little individual packets of chippies and none for hoity jizz.

12:29Jase:Jizz, you've been stealing small packets of chips for months, and when you get them, you hummoo them. You hummoo them yourself. Nobody asks you for any, and fair is fair when it comes to that. Now, if I was rolling in here with a big bag, Jase, you'd be the first person I shared them with, the very, very first. Might be second for me, but if I brought in a big bag of chips, of course it's going around the team, Jase. These are one-person-only chip bags. Well, I remember stealing a packet of those about a week ago and you two-fisted the bastard. I mean, come on, fella. And then to rub salt into the wound, old Pugs-san opens up a box of seaweed.

13:06I know. And goes, what's some of this, Jase? And I'm like, yeah, no thanks, tofu boy. That's racist. Come on, man. It's beautiful Korean seaweed that I got from the supermarket around the corner from my house. It's delicious. Basically no calories in there. Now, you have been stealing chips for a long time, Jase. Not only the big bags, but also the small bags, and you do not share them. You do not offer them. Not once. What a disgraceful thing to say, pugs. How many times have we sat in the studio and you've gone, Woody J, especially Mogi. Do I have a whisper? Woody J. Woody J. Why don't you go and steal us some chips, man?

13:46And I go, come on, fellas. I'm getting so much heat for this. And not only do I do that, you then film me doing that and put it on social media.

13:57Jase:There's heaps out there, Jase. You can help yourself. Yeah, true, yeah. All right, I'm going to. And I'm going to get my own little individual packet and I'm not sharing with any of you bastards. Just on that note, does it bug you? Yes. It's been bugging me. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Pixies there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 4.47. Let's talk TV. What's on the telly with Mike Minogue? Yes. Yeah. Last night I watched a little bit more of Alan Partridge's new TV series there. And yeah, enjoying that. I only got halfway through an episode.

14:41Jase:It was mostly just chatting to the missus, which isn't really what's on the telly, is it? No. No. What did you chat about? A bit of this and a bit of that, to be honest. Nothing immediately leaps out. Although we did talk about something in the podcast, didn't we? But it's just escaping me. It's escaping me. Oh, you had an argument. The car. Oh, that's right. We had a horror of a fight. Podcast out at 7.30 tonight. That's right. Fellas, I'm continuing to watch DTF St. Louis. Oh. And if you don't know what that is, it's a seven-part series about a love triangle between three adults experiencing middle-aged malaise, which leads to one of them ending up dead.

15:20Two detectives investigate and learn the crime is connected to a dating app called DTF St. Louis, which enables married couples to have affairs.

15:36It's sexy stuff, fellas. That's the one with Jason Bateman. Yes. And David K. Harbour. Yes. Yeah. It's very, very good. And I'm learning things like porno positive.

15:51Jase:Oh, yeah. The detective is porn positive. Yeah, porn positive. In her marriage. I've never heard of that phrase before. What does that mean? Well, it means that you... They use pornography in their relationship. Yes. Oh, they use it? Yes. Oh, okay. And they're all G with it. You know, there's no shame and stuff like you feel when you're in the Studio B there and everyone's gone home and you've turned the lights off there, Pugsane. Oh, and I watch porn. Is that what you're suggesting? Shocking. Yeah, yeah. Terrible. It is terrible. You could at least close the blinds because I've walked past and by God.

16:22Jase:Now, I started watching it. I've got one episode into it. And what's really good about it is it starts off and you think it's going to be one thing. and by the end of the episode, it's quite clear that it's a lot more than the sum of its parts. Yes. You think it's going to be a pretty – especially the title, actually. I don't think the title does it any favours. I agree with that. It's a bloody good drama, really well written, and I think it seems to me like it will reveal itself over the course of and whatever you think is happening is probably not happening. Yes, and I'm just a huge Jason Bateman fan.

16:53He is great, man. He's a great actor. He's quite similar in a lot of stuff, I find. He is. He's got the same mannerisms. Completely. He is not somebody that changes.

17:04Jase:He is just himself. Al Pacino is the same now and De Niro and all of those guys, but they're likeable. That's it. And what do you wash that on, Jase? Neon. How many buzzies? Look, I'm going to give it 4.2 buzzies. That's pretty good. Which for me is pretty good, as you know, fellas. That's really good stuff, Jase. Well, I'm watching Married at First Sight Australia, fellas, and it is going off. You guys ever watch that? No. I really struggle to see the point. Pugs, I don't know. I consider you an intelligent, nice guy, but why you watch crap like that is beyond me. They call it chewing gum for the eyes, Pugs, where it keeps you occupied.

17:54Jase:You're sitting there, you are watching something, but it's got no merit, it's got no value, it's got no nutrition for your mind or your soul. It's like that seaweed you try to give me. It's yummy. It's got nothing to it. It's delicious, though. We like the psychoanalysis of it all. We like to break down how much we think people are being encouraged by the producers to do certain things, and then therefore how much of their actions or the things that they say they are responsible for. You know what I mean? Jase, he likes the psychoanalysis of married at first sight. That's like saying you read Penthouse for, you know, the articles, Pug-san.

18:37That's what I'm doing in the studio. The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Kesey. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. Papa Roach here on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 4.55. New comp just gone up on the Hauraki Big Show Insta, fellas, or on the Radio Hauraki Facebook. For you and three mates to go along to the WARS this Friday, they're playing the Raiders. All you have to do is tag your crew there in the comments, and you could be going along. Incidentally, Mogi, how good that game on? Was it Friday? Yeah, I didn't see it. Oh, yeah, you didn't, did you?

19:14Jase:No, I had a friend over for dinner, and I got to watch the last eight minutes. Yes. So I got to see a couple of tries. That was a bit of a treat. You watched it, did you? Yeah, a little bit of it. It was great stuff, man. It was a great thing. It was Gubby, you know, stoked. He didn't watch it either. Oh. Okay. Keezy watch it? Yeah, Keezy watch it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. For sure. He was loving it. He was loving it. Yeah, that's great stuff. Now, listen, coming up after 5 o 'clock, there's something I've noticed in the city, what I consider to be the greatest fashion faux pas that's going around that I want to chat to you fellas about.

19:46Also, we're going on the TransAlpine on Friday, So we're going to be talking to someone from the trans-alpine choo-choo train to tell us what to expect, fellas. How exciting. How good. 20:20Jase:Having a shocker? Have a Toledo's.

20:27Six. Six buzzies? I reckon. It's gone up. Yeah, I'd give it six buzzies. It's gone up. I don't mind it. It's not quite right. No. Hey, fellas, for those of you that are just joining us, by the way, no keys here today. Are we confident he's going to be back on board tomorrow? He's such a sickly fella.

20:44Jase:Yes. So I don't know. I don't know if he's going to be the kind of guy that's sick one day. and then is brand new the next day? That doesn't seem like Keezy to me. Fellas, I hate to play a Keezy advocate here, but it's probably important to note this is apparently, what, his first show sick day? Yeah, according to who, though? To him? Yeah. Ah, okay. I've actually gone back through his records over the years there, Pugsana. It's his 18th. Oh, what was that on your computer? Yeah, it was just on my computer. So you logged in there, did you? Yeah, I just logged in and checked it out. Tap, tap, tap away.

21:18But hopefully he will be back tomorrow because we are doing the live show down in Christchurch and we need old Keezy there. We do. Even though you do a great job. Nobody's saying you don't do a great job there, Paxo. No, no, no. I wouldn't dream of taking this place. Critic Bar, Richmond Club. Yeah, nice stuff. Hey, coming up, I want to get your opinion on something, fellas. But in the meantime, here's White Stripes. The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. Tool there on the radio. Hodaki, big show this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 14 minutes past five o 'clock.

21:54Now, fellas, I don't know if you know this, but I've moved into the city. City limits. Big city hoit, is it? Yeah, man. Cool. Are you going to do the sting or...? What sting's that? Yeah, don't worry about it. And genuinely, one of the reasons that I moved into the city is because I wanted to stay connected to people, fellas. Oh, well, you mean when you say stay, you mean start being connected. I wanted to start connecting with people, yeah, you know what I mean? Because I felt out west, I kind of disconnected a little bit. And one of the great things I love about being in the city is all the different sort of fashions, all the different ethnicities, all the different kinds of people.

22:34Like I've met some of the local characters. Oh, yes. Like there's the cowboy, who you probably know, Mogi, who stands outside Sky City. He wears a cowboy hat. Oh, yeah. And he likes to abuse the living crap out of people.

22:49Jase:The guy that I met was somebody, the guy that threw the pie that exploded off my chest. That was a different guy. Yes. Well, the cowboy seems to have taken a real penchant for Hoity J, by the way. Like, he doesn't know who I am, but whenever he sees me, he makes a beeline so he can specifically abuse me, which I always find a tremendous treat. What sort of stuff's he going for? What's he reaching for? I really can't tell you on live radio. There's Johnny Prayer, who I've told you about, who twice now has said a prayer for me while holding my cheek. I love that you're letting him do that. Yes. Well, it's just one of those weird things where he's so genuine and nice, it seems, that he puts his hand on my cheek, on my face.

23:36Yeah. Not my arse cheek, Pugs, you filthy bastard. You're a shocking bastard. And he says a prayer for me and my family.

23:41Jase:I noticed since he started doing that, you've been getting sick. Yes. There's the seaman. Sorry, your what? The seaman. I won't get into him too much. Suffice to say, he sits in the same corner down by Aotea Square, and every time you walk past him, he shouts something out at you once again. You said he was all over you. Oh, he loves me. He loves me, and he does grab my arse cheek. But one of the other things I love is all the different fashions out there. But there's one fashion travesty that I wanted to get your view on very quickly, and that is something that I think is the worst. There's only one thing worse than this that I can think of, and that's Pugsans' tasseled bright boat shoes.

24:32Jase:Oh, yeah, yeah. Bright. They're black. Yeah, yeah. They're bright black. And those other plastic shoes you've got which are weird. What? And it's always when I'm sort of down by the water, and I think it might have to do with, you know, the tourist boats coming in. Oh, okay. And the travesty to me is a man and a woman, usually older, sort of mogie's age, maybe another 10 years on from there, who dress in matching outfits. Right, right. Now, I want it on the record, and I want you guys to, you know, hear this. If my wife and I ever reach the point where we're wearing matching outfits, it's time to take Haughty J out to the back paddock.

25:13Now, it doesn't matter what it is. It's if a couple is matching. If they're matching, I don't believe there is a greater fashion travesty than matching outfits. How do you fellas feel about it?

25:25Jase:Yeah, I mean, it can be cute, but they have to be really old. I'm talking 90s. If they're in the same sort of track suit or something like that and they're really, really ancient and knock it on death's door, I don't mind that. It's when they're sort of younger than that and they should know better. In their 60s kind of vibe. Yeah, I'm not into it, I'll be honest. Yes. I think if they're swagged out and they're matching, it doesn't matter, man. Especially if they've got bright black loafers with tassels flapping around. Because you bring up another good point. is another thing that offends me fashion-wise is the one sort of piece tracksuit.

26:03And I'm not talking cool Adidas sort of hip tracksuit with bling and stuff. I'm talking like a mauve or a green tracksuit top and matching pants. No. If I ever get to that stage, take me out to the back pad and be done with it.

26:19Jase:I like that your reference for a cool tracksuit is an Adidas one with lots of bling, which is run DMC in the 1980s.

26:29You want to hear some of theirs? Oh, the peoples on 3483? Yeah. I don't think there's anything worse fashion-wise than that, but let us know if you think there is on 3483. We've got Toledo's cash to give away. That's just real cash from our mates at Toledo's. Every text goes in the drawer, so text us your fashion gripes. In the meantime, he's smashing pumpkins. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Red. Hot. Chilli peppers there on the radio. Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 5.27. We're talking fashion nightmares. And I was talking about the fact that I've spent a lot of time in town these days.

27:09And I get to see all the fashions, fellas. Yeah. All the different types of fashions. And for me, the greatest faux pas fashion-wise is elderly couples dressing up in the same outfits. Generally tracksuits. Yep. And Pugsans shiny boat shoes. Bright black boat shoes, you were saying. So you've just said elderly couples, so it's only the old couples you've got a problem with. Well, actually, that's not fair, but I've never seen a young couple do that. Right. You know what I mean? It's usually a 60s, mid-60s kind of age group. Yep. Generally, you know, they've let themselves go a little bit. Physically.

27:53A little bit on the, you know what I'm saying, fellas. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We asked for some of your fashion grapes or the worst thing that you've ever seen. If you've seen anything worse on 3483, every text in the drawer for 50 bucks, thanks to our good pals at Toledo's. First off the rank here, man buns. Man buns, yeah. Now, I had one of those in the good year of 2014, I want to say. Yes. So a good 12 years ago, I ran one of those.

28:17Jase:They were all the rage, weren't they? They really were. They were all the rage. Oh no What? I just remembered I had a man bun for a little while And at one point I had a chopstick in it Oh Someone find that photo That's true Wow We've got one here that says Crocs You're a big Crocs fan Yeah well look I have to because of my dodgy ankles I need the extra support of Crocs But the ones you bought are shockers Those aren't Crocs that'll be why Oh right okay Nevertheless. Yes. Someone here's got an issue with shorts so short on a man that their sack is nearly on display. I don't mind a short short.

28:58I'm kind of into that.

28:58Jase:Yeah, as long as they've got underpants on, she's all good. Yeah, or you've got the sort of netting, so it's like a pork roast. They don't do that as much anymore, do they? No, they don't. Very big one. We're growing up, Woody Jo, but you don't see the netting so much for the balls. Someone here says loose baggy pants that drag along the ground and people generally not wearing the clothes that fit them. Does that? Yeah. There is that, but that's coming back in. Actually, that was really big for quite a while. People were wearing humongous jerseys. JNCO jeans. Yeah, I prefer to see the shape of a human, I'll be honest with you.

29:33Jase:That's just me. Yeah, no, I agree with you. There was that thing for a long time where the pants didn't fit and they were always falling down in the silk boxer shorts. That was very popular. For me, a personal one is jeans that are so skinny, they have to be like elastic. Oh, yeah. You know what? I'm not going to complain about every pair of skinny jeans, particularly with the company in this room. But ones that are so tight that they're elastic. They're like jeggings almost. Well, I have to wear those now because my leg muscles are getting so massive from all my walking. I need the room to move.

30:10Yeah, yeah, true. Just on that, old guys walking around the inner city with shirts with sailing boats on them.

30:19Jase:Also, nothing worse than Horty J's sneens at Pugsans 30th. Hauraki Big Show on Insta if you want to see a photo of Horty J's sneens. What are sneens? Sneakers and jeans, man. Oh, right, okay. Is that a bad look, is it? Fielos? The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki. Yes, indeed. Faith, no more there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this moist Wednesday evening. Now, fellas, on Friday, we're going on a choo-choo train, aren't we, Mogi? Are you super excited, man? That's the official name for it. I am actually really excited because the beauty of these trains, Jizzbot, is that you get to see a part of the country that you otherwise wouldn't.

31:05Jase:True that, man. These train lines go places where roads for cars do not. So I really am, and it's five hours. We're going to see some sights. Yeah, it's going to be good, mate. With that in mind, we've got someone from Transalpine on the line. He's the locomotive engineer. Sam Sharp, you massive backbone. How's life? How are you going? Yeah, good. Thanks, mate. I've got a bit of a question for you there, Sam. Is locomotive engineer just a fancy name for a train driver? Yeah, that's exactly right there, Mike. Yeah, you're right, mate. Sam, how long does it take to qualify as a locomotive engineer?

31:40Took me about 18 months, so I've been doing it for just over five years now.

31:47Jase:Is that right, 18 months? Is that because you're not very bright? No, I'm just checking in because you said it took you. So is that standard or is it normally shorter or longer? Yeah, that's probably about standard. So we have to do 1 ,100 hours in the cab with a certified driver. And there's about sort of three to four months worth of book week before that. 1 ,100 hours. That's insanity. Yeah, it is quite a lot. But out of Christchurch, we go three different ways. So we go up north, south and west towards Arthur's Pass. So there is quite a bit of track that we have to learn. Oh, Pugs goes three ways as well, don't you, Pugs?

32:27Jase:Yeah, every time they can. Hey, Sam, Keezy isn't with us today, but hopefully he will be on Friday. He wants to go on the caboose. Have you got a caboose? Well, at the back of the train, there is a luggage van. So you could probably call that the caboose. Right, okay. Just chuck them in there. Yeah, yeah, nice. That's pretty interesting, the fact that you're doing 1 ,100 hours to get your licence, when to be a commercial pilot licence, you only need 200. Yeah, I'm not really quite sure how that works out. Unbelievable. I'm shocked by that. It's interesting stuff, Jess. Yeah, very much. So, Sam, tell us what we can expect on this journey, looking very much forward to it.

33:07I actually think I've done it before, and it was beautiful, but what can the fellas expect? Well, I mean, it showcases the South Island's landscape pretty awesomely. So you start off going along the Canterbury Plains and you get into the Waimat Gorge where the train will navigate its way through, I think it's 16 tunnels, a few different viaducts, and then you get up to Arthur's Pass where you go in the eight and a half K long Atera Tunnel and then you'll be on the West Coast. How good. How good, man. Sam, quick question. Obviously, first time train rider, very, very excited. Well, long distance train rider.

33:47We're going to be recording some podcasts or some little snippets from the train. Adventures, chapters, if you will. Yeah, man. I thought we were just going to enjoy the journey. No, no, no. You're working, brother. Now, are we expected to be quiet? What's sort of the etiquette with being on a train like this? I understand there's probably quiet carriages, or are we going to have to whisper into the microphone? Yeah, well, it depends if you're going to be in the cab or not. If you're going to go ride with the engineer, then you might have to be on your best behaviour, but I'm sure you'll be able to find a nice quiet space somewhere in the carriages to record.

34:20Jase:Is there a first-class carriage? Yes, there is. We call it the Scenic Plus. So, yeah, that is essentially it's a first-class carriage, yeah. How good. What about snacks, Sam, and, you know, beverages and stuff like that? We're going to be well served on that front. Yeah, I believe you will be. There is a cafe car on the train, so that won't be a problem for you. Perfect. I understand it's one of the world's most scenic rail experiences. We're going to be travelling across the Southern Alps between Christchurch and Greymouth. If you want to get amongst that listening, you can do that at greatjourneysnz.com to book your trans-alpine adventure.

35:02Sam, thanks for your... Are we going to see you on the day, Sam, by the way? No, you're actually not. No, I'm heading down to Queenstown for a friend's wedding. Oh, back back. I won't be able to. Yeah, never mind, mate. Well, good on you, Sam. Very much looking forward to it, mate. Thanks for your time. No, thanks for having me on and enjoy the trip, fellas. Thanks, mate. Cheers, mate. And come and see us after the train journey at the Monteith's Brewery on that Friday in Greymouth there. It's going to be a rip of feels. Are we doing that as well, are we? Yeah, damn right. Gee, this is feeling way too much like work, bud, Sam.

35:33The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki. Talking heads here on the Radio Hauraki. Big show this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 5 minutes to 6 o 'clock now. Coming up after 6 o 'clock, we've got to talk about your shots for Vietnam, Pugson. Me? Oh, yeah? Yeah. Oh, yeah, because you've been. Yeah, exactly this time last year, actually. I was in Vietnam. Good times.

35:58Jase:We discuss this when you're away, Jason, what an error it was for Pugs to choose this time because you did the same time last year and then you're in a horrible mood for the rest of the year. True that, yeah. So I said to Pugsan, it's better if he just stays here, gets a bit of work done, maybe he can go over in about a year, year and a half. And just be in a horrible mood until then. That's not a bad idea. But you'll be excited because it's on the horizon. Yeah, it's always nearly there, Pugsan. You'll be excited. But Mogi makes a very good point. I was in a horrible mood for the rest of the year.

36:27I don't think that had a hell of a lot to do with your trip. Right. what else oh you've had a tragedy with your your Pornamu which we'll get into as well and also an exciting announcement about tomorrow morning The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki Welcome back you massive backbones hope your Wednesday's absolutely going off no Keezy today hopefully he'll be back tomorrow we'll see how we go by the way the Big Show has brought Brought to you by Toledo's. There's a lot to love about Toledo's. It's low in sugar, no preservatives, natural flavours and more.

37:07You can order yours now at toledos.co.nz.

37:13Suck it hard.

37:20Yeah. 10 out of 10.

37:25Well, I mean, if you're having a Toledo's, you should suck it hard. Suck it hard. You can look at Mogey too when you say that just by the way. Definitely. I've got a fridge full of Toledos. Don't tell them that. My fridge is empty. Is it? Because I've drunk them all. Because you sucked it hard. Because it's so good I was sucking them all weekend. Yeah, nice stuff. Nice stuff. Now, as we mentioned before, 6 o 'clock, old Pugsan's going to Vietnam. When's it? In a week's time. Yeah, so not this coming weekend, but next weekend I'll be gone, fellas. Bye. And I'm a three -

37:57Jase:Three weeks. Yeah, three weeks. Is that how long you're going for? Yeah. It's longer than you went for, Jason. He's still got four weeks leave left when he gets back. Three weeks? What? Yeah. I'm not happy about that. That's too long. That's too long. He'll be sick of it after two. Yeah, well, totally, man. Two weeks is plenty. I want you back by the third week. So, yeah, I'll park the rest of it, man. That's all G, just the third of my trip there. Hey, but listen, we do need to make sure that you're going to be safe over there, mate, so you do come back after three weeks. So we'll talk injections next.

38:31Vaccines. Sure. Sound good to you? Yeah. Good stuff, mate. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Kesey. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. Velvet Revolver there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday evening, the time, 6.13. Now, old pug son, I've just learned is going away for three weeks, a week longer than I went. Yeah. To Vietnam. Very excited for you, Pug San. Thank you. Well, you raved so much about your Vietnam, man. You got me really excited. So I thought I'd better tag it up a notch. To be fair, it's not Europe. Oh, God, no. But, you know, I mean, for poor fellas like you and me.

39:14Oh, yeah, yeah. Pug San. You and your dog squad money. You know, it's a good option. But what I needed to know is, are you all up to date on your vaccines? No. No, to be honest with you, I recently moved to a new suburb. Well, a few months ago, I moved to a new suburb, and I've just enrolled at the dock. So I'm actually going tomorrow. Okay. I'm going to ask what I need to get for Vietnam. I've heard I think HEP is one you've got to watch out for. HEPA, yeah, definitely. What's that?

39:44Jase:GONE. Got to get a shot for GONE. You've got to get that for Vietnam, do you? Yeah. And the other one was TYFOID. Yeah, TYFOID, definitely. Yeah, those are kind of the two, mate. You've got to get your rabies one, too. There's a lot of stray dogs in Vietnam. You've got to get your rabies shots. Can I not just avoid the stray dogs? Well, the trouble with them is they come to you, man. They're mad bastards, aren't they? Yeah, totally. Yeah. What about Japanese encephalitis? You've got to get inoculated for that as well. Sorry, that was Japanese encephalitis. Encephalitis, yes. Sounds. No, don't say racist.

40:21Hey, you didn't even let me finish. I was going to say it sounds made up. No, it's Japanese encephalitis. It's a very serious thing, and you need to make sure that you get the vaccine for that. What are the symptoms for that? Sweatiness, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting, and a fever. Yeah. Right, okay. Cholera. Cholera, yes. Really? Thank you, Mo. Is that still around, isn't it, the old cholera?

40:46Jase:Oh, yeah. Shocking. Hep B. because I know that you're planning to get some tats over there. I am, actually. And they say if you're going to get tats over there, then you should get a Hep B as well. I've heard of Hep A and Hep C. I've never heard of B. Have you not? Yeah, what's the main difference there? Oh, they're all lethal, obviously, but that's the one that will kill you the quickest. Now, this is the one you need to make sure you get, all right, above everything else. Doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis. Yes. Sorry, could you just run that one more time? Doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis.

41:31Now, there were some sounds in there that sounded familiar. Yes. Can you run me through that one, please? What that does, and given your inclinations. Yes. Right. Proclivities. Your proclivities. To travel to Vietnam. It reduces the incidence of syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea. Gone. Goneburger. So I can just get that and then just go to town. So you just need to get what's called the Doxypep. You just get that squirted in you. Huh? And that will make sure that because, you know, I mean, I know you're going to be taking a crap. Three weeks. We know where you're going. We know what's going to be going on, Pugsone.

42:10Might as well just get that now. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Kesey. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki. Sublime there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday evening. The time is 6.23. Big morning tomorrow morning, fellas. Big.

42:27Jase:Big morning. Big morning. Big morning. Huge even. At 8.40am, Jace. 8.40. You know what's happening? Yes, I do. 20 to 9. if you have entered to go in the draw to win the magnificent fin chaser boat, you might want to keep your phone on, my brother. Yeah. Or sister. Or sister. Especially if you submitted a name that if you win is going to be plastered on the side of that boat. It's all things to our mates at fin chaser boats. That's right. They are drawing the winner, baby. Yeah. It's been a long campaign, fellas, but why wouldn't it be for 75K worth of boat? Something like 150 ,000 entries have come in.

43:06Jase:That's a record for us. and I was actually saying earlier on, because people are still entering it, and I legitimately thought by now that they would have made the decision about who it was going to be, but they haven't. No. Till they came in before when we asked him, and he was like, no. He was like, no. So it's going to be done tomorrow morning, so you've still got time to enter. You've got to rip into it, man. Text BOAT to 3483. How good if you did it tonight, Bogie, and you won tomorrow morning? Just as like a last minute thing. Oh, I've been hearing about this boat for a little while. My miles will chuck my name in there.

43:35Why not? It's a chuck a name idea in there. You've got to be in to win. You've got to be in to win. Actually, could you write that down, Pugs? You've got to be in. You can save it for when Casey gets big, brother. To win. Okay, so you're writing it down. To win. Okay, good. We've had the last round of names come through as of this afternoon. Obviously, there's still time for you to get in there until they draw it tomorrow. But we've got some more, fellas. One that I quite liked from this latest selection was the Pippi Tickler. I think that's good. Pippi Tickler. The Pippi Tickler. It's good, wholesome family fun.

44:05Not sure that it is. Yeah, that's pretty filthy. What? What do you mean? Like from the sea, you know? Trust you to go straight to that one, Pugs, huh? I reckon. It did stand out on the page there. Shocking. How about not bad, like the nautical knot? No.

44:24Jase:No. I feel like we've had Fintastic about 300 times. Yeah, we have. Yeah, we have had the Munna wave. What about, oh, we've had Only Fins a bunch as well. Banana boat? That's boring. Silly salmon. Silly salmon. No. Wet dream? Had it. Have we? Oh, gee whiz. I went on a banana boat in Vietnam. When's the last time you had a wet dream? Me? What? Do you know? Okay. Do you know, Mogi? I don't know that I ever have. Really? Yes. I used to get a few back in the day. You know, production levels were significantly higher than what they are now. Sure. You know, I've had to let go of a few staff. How about?

45:08Jase:That's not what it was. How about Shelby? She's become a sole trader. Yeah, yeah. No, I can't ever recall ever having one. Of course, I had a famous one. I've got more names. We'll just hold off on the names for a second here, Pugs. We're talking wet dreams. Yeah. I had a famous one once. I think we talked about it on the podcast. I'm not sure I could do it on the program proper here. Probably not. But, jeez, it was a gem. Was it Cracker? It was a Cracker. Yeah. I mean, I may have had one. I just maybe didn't notice. Oh, you'd remember. Yeah, totally. It's quite something. She'll be or, right?

45:42I mean, I've had a dream and woken up from it and thought, hello.

45:45Jase:Well, it's pretty amazing, isn't it? The power of the mind. It really goes to show you. It does. You can make yourself do that with the power of the mind. Yes. Jeez, it's something to think about. It sure is. Something to think about. Just text BOAT to 3483. It's your last chance. We're drawing at 8.40 a.m. tomorrow with Gerry Minaya. What about you, Puds? You had a wet dream? Deez, deez, deez. What's that? The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Soundgarden there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday evening. The time is 6.34. Fellas had a bit of a shocker today. Oh, I've had a few.

46:24Jase:You have, actually. This one was a real gut-wrencher. I take my kids to school, I walk over there, and then I ride my bicycle. into work. And today it was fair pissing down. So I put my gym gears on for the bike ride and then I thought I can get dry when I get to the office, you see. So you were going to ride your bike? That's right. The Adventures of Pushed Bike Mode. Oh, is that a new one? No, we've heard that for ages. Oh, right, okay. And I packed my little bag there. It's just there with all my little things. and in my pocket I put my watch, my Poonamu, and my ear pod thingies. Sure. Put those in there and then I was sitting at home and I was getting my shoes on and old bird shit Chris, our cat, he or she absolutely loves going outside and if she's not outside she's sitting on top of one of the chairs just meowing her ass off.

47:26Jase:Yes. Just absolutely giving it death. So I jumped up to let the cat out, and out of my pocket flew my AirPods, my watch, and my Poonamu. And it flew across the room and landed on the hearth of the fireplace. The hearth. It's a big concrete block there. Yeah, they're pretty hard, the old hearths. They're pretty hard. And my Poonamu shattered. Ah. I got given that one by my wife and daughter. To be fair, my daughter had very little to do with it. Yes. But it means a lot to me, that. and it's busted up and I'm wondering what I can actually do about it. Am I cursed? Yeah, well, I did wonder about that when you were talking about it in the chat today.

48:05I thought, is that a terrible curse? Is that now going to befall you?

48:08Jase:I don't know. But I do feel like I'm getting sick, actually, don't I? I think I've got a case of the Keezes. The Keezes? Yes, we can all have a turn with it. Well, yeah, so I don't know what the guts is, but I'd quite like to get it repaired, but I'm also not sure whether that's the done thing. Right. You know? Have you got all the pieces, obviously? Yeah, there's only three pieces, which isn't too bad. Shattered was probably too strong a word. Broke would be more accurate. But I definitely want to get it fixed. So, look, if there's anybody out there that knows how to fix Poonamu, give us a shout.

48:46Jase:We'll do sort of four or five breaks around you and your business and the kind of work you do and just really talk you and your business up. We'll give you links to link and bio on our social media clips. We'll go on the Instagram. We'll talk about your website. Are you going to plug them? Oh, we'll be plugging them. Plug alert. Sell out. Piece of s*** paid under the table. Backhand it. Illegal plug. Yeah, so we'll be doing that. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Kesey. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.

49:28Well, there you go. The big show done and dusted for Tuesday, the 10th of March. Keezy Mogey and Pugsun signing off. Hopefully Hoody J back on deck tomorrow. But we do, of course, do a podcast outro. Today was no different. What's today's clip there, Pugsun? Today's clip is a post-meeting that we have with our boss, him getting confused about what certain terms mean, which I've omitted from the clip. Right, okay. Well, he started it by not knowing what **** he meant. How did he not know? Did he not know, though?

49:56Jase:I don't know. Nah, he didn't know. Nah, he didn't know. He didn't. It's like when we were doing the goat and he wanted to do the ****. That's right. The hunt for the best singer of all time. Like he's hearing these terms, but he has no idea. Oh, that's right. That's right. Oh, God. If you want to hear what our boss said, you have to listen, I suppose. You have to listen. That's a good trick from you, Pugs. That's nice. Little tease there. What are you up to tonight, Keezy? I'm going to go home, eat eggplant. My wife finally texts through what it actually is. What is it? Is it crumbed in a sort of a panko crumb there?

50:27Coconut peanut noodle salad with eggplant. I would never have picked that after hearing just eggplant. Yeah, same. So that sounds yummy.

50:35Jase:Vegetarian. And spicy. Yeah, vegetarian. So that's what I'll be doing. And then we're probably going to watch a TV show of some sort. She'll go to bed. Then I'm going to go online with my mates. Nice. Play a bit of Ark Raiders. What are you doing there, Bogus? I'm going to go home and probably just go to bed, to be honest with you. I'm shattered, but I feel better than I did when I first came in, as I usually do. But I'm buggered. I just need a good sleep, fellas. Yeah. Just a real early night. I tried to have an early night last night, but the cat kept on getting up and doing steamers on my pillow.

51:03Yeah. Cool. Yeah, true. That's just another night for old Mogey, though, Pugs. What are you doing tonight, man? I'm going to go home, workshop my sushi shop soundtrack segment, just get the whiteboard out, get my partner involved, and see how we can bring it back. I don't know what your issue is. I thought it was excellent. I thought it was excellent radio. Radio awards. Cheers, guys. Pugs, if you can clip that off. I'll also eat some sawba noodles with some tofu. Nice. And then I'll watch some TV. Sounds great, man. I'm stoked for you. Thanks. Hey, listen to The Big Show tomorrow, 4 till 7. Hopefully, Hoardy J back on deck.

51:40And if you missed anything, don't forget the Haraki Big Show podcast comes out at 7.30 tonight. Until tomorrow, we'll see you later. See ya. Thank you.
