0:09Keyzie:Welcome to the Hauraki Big Show. Really big. With Jason Hoyte, Mike Minogue and Keyzie. Oh, g'day you mad bastards. Great to have your company on this moody, wet, windy Friday afternoon. It is the 4th of September, 2026. And you, my friends, as always, listening to The Big Show, brought to you by Reburger.
0:32Mike Minogue:Serving good times and good food. Dine-in or takeaway Reburger today. Reburger.
0:38Keyzie:Yeah, great stuff. Oh, it's a bit chilly in here, Mogey. And your tight T-shirts not leaving anything to the imagination at all. And not that I'm complaining, mind. It's just very, very distracting. How are you, you stallion? Going pretty grassy, you mad dog, you sick son of a bee. Bit of a wet one up here, isn't it, mate? It is, it is. In the 09, Auckland. If you want to know what the weather's like the rest of New Zealand up in Auckland, it's rainy and a bit cool. Yeah, and a bit windy. A little bit windy as well. I'm a little bit worried about today's show, I'll be honest with you, man. I mean, Keezy there, he's come in hot.
1:15He's tried to show a whole bunch of energy, but we know it's a facade because you're hung over, aren't you, Keezy? You're in pieces. You're a shell of a man. You're a shocking bastard.
1:23Mike Minogue:G'day, fellas. I don't know what you're talking about. Feeling good.
1:26Keyzie:Yeah, I'm seeing a crash at about 4.17 the way he's going at the moment. What?
1:31Mike Minogue:No, I'm feeling good, boys. I actually laid off the beers last night. Yeah, no, it's not good, fellas. Bit dusty. Can you tell us what time you got to bed? Just to give us a taste. We'll go into it more deeply later on and across the entire show. Not bad at all. Midnight. It's too late for someone like you. Yeah. What do you mean, someone like me? Especially your age now. What do you mean my age now? I'm sweet.
1:53Keyzie:You're getting on. Oh, it's no good.
1:55Mike Minogue:I'm only four years younger than you, Jason.
1:57Keyzie:I know, mate. So I know what I'm talking about.
2:00Mike Minogue:How are you today, by the way?
2:01Keyzie:Yeah, very well, thank you. Can't complain. Yeah. And nor will I.
2:05Mike Minogue:Makes a change.
2:10Mike Minogue:What's happening on The Big Show with old Mogi? It's Friday, fellas, and that means another opportunity at a massive throbber. Yeah, baby. Dish, dish, dish. We're also going to get into Would You Rather. It's Waz or Cars, an opportunity to get yourself into the draw to go to the grand final of the NRL in Sydney or head along to Mount Panorama to catch Bathurst, baby. How bloody good. And coming up next, fellas, we're going to talk about Father's Day. Yeah, man. Father's Day. It's come around again. It's come around again. It seems to happen every year. Sneaks up on you, doesn't it? It really, really does.
2:49Mike Minogue:Is Father's Day a bad thing? I'm getting bad things.
2:52Keyzie:You know.
2:53Mike Minogue:Isn't it good? You're both fathers, you know. That is true. It's a good thing, right? You get celebrated.
2:58Keyzie:Yeah.
3:00Mike Minogue:Here's Arctic Monkeys. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
3:06Keyzie:Queens of the Stone Age there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show. This Friday afternoon. The time is 23 minutes past four o 'clock. Don't forget those frown outs, by the way. Frown out shy day. Got any frown outs? 3483 is a number you text.
3:20Mike Minogue:Yeah, shout outs Fellas, last night I was judging a battle of the bands type competition Yes It was a battle of the ad bands or agency bands or something With all the advertising agencies that work with our company They all get all their talented musos together Perform a whole lot of songs in front of a crowd And they have a panel of judges Is that what it is? Yeah I don't know that, you've been doing that for years Yeah, I think it was my fourth year doing it It's always really good fun Last year it was me and Bo Runga, for example Oh, how good Yeah, she wasn't there this year Who was there this year?
3:50Mike Minogue:A fella called James, nice bloke. Never heard of him. Yeah, well, I haven't even told you his last name. Don't worry about it. But the way it works is the bands come out, they perform for 15 minutes. They're given a theme. Last night's theme was 70s. Great era of music. Yeah. What a lot of bands were doing was playing four songs because that's roughly 15 minutes.
4:13Keyzie:Yes.
4:13Mike Minogue:However, a few bands decided to try and jam like eight, seven six songs into the and just do like a little bit of a song and then quickly move on to another one there's a name for that uh a medley yeah and we and me and the other judges like oh damn it i want to listen to the rest of the song you were doing such a good job but then you moved on sort of thing uh so there's this one band i can't remember which one it was but uh they really really good they always do really well each year and they did a massive medley and in my judging i said on the microphone in front of everyone i said i would have loved you to actually do the whole songs because I got I was trying to sing along and then it would move on just as you know I was like I want to climax here you're just sort of edging me along and then moving off um and I also said you guys are great you know you're always up on the podium you know you're always a podium finish yes and I then after judging that went out back to go wheeze in the green room where they were all standing and the toilet is in the corner of the green room yeah and it's a little wooden like plywood box thing and I'm in there and I I am just listening to these guys.
5:13Mike Minogue:Releasing a powerful stream of built-up beersies. 100 % true. So I'm in there listening, and they are going in on the judges. It was very funny. It was like they were convinced they had done pretty much a flawless performance. They were convinced that the judges didn't know what they were talking about, which is true. I don't. And they kept saying stuff like, oh, too many songs. Oh, what? So you just want the same chorus a few more times? That's true. He's got a point there. 100 % Got you there And so I'm sitting in the Well I'm not sitting I'm standing In the bog in the corner There swaying slightly With a big grin on my face Cracking up Yeah right And then they go Yeah and when he said We're always a podium finish I've never hated someone So much in my life Oh really Oh really And I literally burst out laughing In the toilet in the corner Obviously pulled up The old zipper there Washed my hands Came out And then they're like Oh hang on You are one of the judges Aren't you And I'm like Yeah I reckon next time Do a few more songs but it was I can't figure out if they were intentionally speaking loud because they knew I was a judge or that was just what you know I just heard yeah and it is interesting because they had spent months practicing and then a guy comes in half steamed who isn't a muso but you're the audience Kesey 100 % you know what I mean yes and sometimes you gotta these musicians had it too good for too long man you gotta take them down a peg or two musos sure you know they've been out there they've been practicing month after month month after month, putting everything they can into this to try and win some kind of, you know, thankless prize.
6:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. Meaningless. Probably a meat pack or something. And in comes old Inglebert Steemachese. Inglebert Steemachese. Whose favourite artist is a 94-year-old and tells them that what they're playing is no good or there's too much of it, you know what I mean?
7:03Mike Minogue:I said that it was very good. That's right. But you can understand why they'd be thinking to themselves, wow. You know?
7:09Keyzie:I remember once I was doing a steamer in the toilets of the comedy club there, Kesey. Similar experience. And I'd just done my gig. And so I was sitting on the bog there doing a steamer. Right, so you bombed on stage, then bombed the toilet. Yes, pretty much. And someone came in, the same thing. There were two dudes there chatting about my gig and just slaying it. Actually? Yeah, actually. and one of them was going, you know, a lot of people find him funny. I've never found him funny. Yeah, yeah. And then I finished up and just walked out with my head held high.
7:47Mike Minogue:Yeah, no, did you flush?
7:48Keyzie:No, I just left it there.
7:52Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Beat Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. One simple question, one weekend of a lifetime. Would you rather?

9:02Mike Minogue:No. But for a lot of people, that would be, I'm happy now. Do you think, this is a slightly off topic, do you think the Warriors winning the grand final will be one of the greatest days in New Zealand sport history? 100%. I think it is. Of course it is. 9:26Keyzie:Hey, let's go to the phone lines. G'day, Tom, you mad bastard. How's life? Yeah, good, fellas. How are you? Big plans for your Friday, Tom? Yeah, no, just heading down the mountain. Hopefully the weather's going to play ball. Oh, yeah. I hear you, mate. I hear you. What do you do for a cross, Tom? I do a bit of marketing. Oh, yeah. No biggie. No biggie. Yeah, backbun. No biggie from old Tom. And what would your choice be in this scenario, Bathurst or the NRL grand final, mate? I remember a young fella being at the first Warriors game at Mount Smart against the Broncos. Yes. It's going to have to be the Wards.
10:05Yeah, good on you, mate. It's already our grand final. I don't want to jinx it.
10:08Mike Minogue:Good choice, Tom. You hold the line there, mate, and old Pugson will sort you out. Cheers, mate.
10:13Keyzie:Good on you. He was no nonsense old Tom, wasn't he? It was quite good that first game there because we lost by one point to the Broncos. I remember that game. It was a doozy. It was an absolute doozy. So we all thought, jeez, we're going to smash this competition. This is easy. And here we are 30 years later waiting for our first title.
10:31Mike Minogue:Jase, were you dressed as Wally the Wombat for that game?
10:33Keyzie:No, he didn't come in for a couple of years, I think, actually.
10:37Mike Minogue:He was a mascot, eh, in the early days of the Walsh.
10:39Keyzie:Yes, he was. Let's go to Carmel. G'day, Carmel. How's life? Yeah, bloody good, mate. And yourself? Yeah, can't bloody complain, Carmel. Hey, tell me, what's your plan for the Friday out there in Cambridge?
10:52Mike Minogue:Not long home from work. Just kind of chill. was going to have a beer in front of our outside fire, but a bit wet. A bit wet, mate. Yeah, hear you, Carmel. What do you reckon, Carmel? Pack a day or you're on the vates now?
11:06Keyzie:Neither, mate. Oh, backbone. Can you have a word to Jase, please? Because he was out of control. Yeah, he's too out of control for me to handle, mate. Yeah, thanks. I appreciate that. Tell me, Carmel, what would be your choice here? NRL or Bathurst?
11:23Mike Minogue:Definitely a bucket list Backers for us. Good on you. Good on you. Nice. All right, Carmel, you hold the line. Pugs down, I'll put you in the draw, all right? Excellent. Thanks, mate. Good on you. Well, Backers has been going forever, hasn't it? Yes. Absolutely forever. And it's one of those sports at early doors, you know, decades ago, was one of the few sporting events that would get shown on the telly. People froth it. All weekend, you get in front of the telly, you get on the beers. So it's been a tradition for a lot of people for a long time. It certainly is in my family. And in fact, I think the large portion of my family would definitely choose Bathurst.
11:54Mike Minogue:Yeah, right. 100%.
11:55Keyzie:Yeah, how good. Well, they're all petrol heads, eh, Keezy? Yeah, man. On the plantation there.
12:00Mike Minogue:I don't have a plantation. Here's New Order. Small lifestyle block, all right? The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
12:11Keyzie:Yes, indeed. Jihad there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Friday afternoon. The time is 4.47. Let's talk television. What's on the telly with Mike Minogue?
12:27Yeah! That's right. I've just been continuing on with the TV show alone, fellas. Yeah. So I don't want to bang on about that until it's finished.
12:38Keyzie:I went back to a series that we started a little while ago, and we went, oh, that's right, we were watching. It was pretty good, called Vicious, on Disney Channel, I believe it is, with the star of Shameless. Disney Plus, yeah. I can't remember her name from Shameless. Old mate there. Old mate. Yeah. She's a backbone. And she's the main character. It's basically a classic crime story. Female serial killer this time. That's right. And she is the lead detective, if you will. But she's also got lots of issues herself. you know your classic scenario. She's not an alcoholic is she? No she likes to drink there's other things that she gets into because of her past that are not healthy but I don't want to go into them too much on air if you know what I'm saying fellas.
13:36Keyzie:But she's kind of a broken spirit outside of work so your classic you know chaotic tortured private life but a very bloody good cop I mean, it's actually pretty good. It's pretty good. Pretty good. It's a pretty solid series, pretty solid acting. I'll give it a good solid three buzies out of five. Okay.
14:00Mike Minogue:What is it called and where is it?
14:02Keyzie:Vicious. Disney Plus.
14:03Mike Minogue:Yeah, yeah, cool. Whilst hungover this morning, eating breakfast, I watched Anthony... What did you have for breakfast? Don't worry about it. Yeah, which breakfast was it? Because you had also lunch at 10.30am. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Oh, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I watched Anthony Bourdain in Singapore. Yeah. Like an old one of his shows that's on YouTube. All of his shows are on YouTube. Fantastic. If you can't think of anything to watch, you can just put one on, and it's really, really interesting and really entertaining. One of the interesting things about Singapore, one of the richest countries, right, went from a third world country to a fully developed country in one generation, I think it was.
14:42Mike Minogue:People there are very, very, very wealthy. some of the highest property prices in the world. And you can go and you can eat French food, you can eat Italian food and Western stuff, and it's all very expensive. However, they refuse to pay top dollar at all for Singaporean food. Right, okay. So all of the Singaporean people are like, well, let's just open an Italian restaurant, that way we can charge$30 for a main, whereas the price of, I think it was like a chicken and noodles or something, has changed from$3 to$4 in over 30 years. That's all it's done. Yeah. But Singaporeans are all really wealthy, but they refuse to pay a lot for their local food, but they love their local food.
15:19Mike Minogue:Very interesting. Yes.
15:21Keyzie:Just on that front, actually, Keezy, I got home last night, and my wife was watching Samsung TV, and you know how they have specialised channels where it just plays all of one particular series? She discovered one with this Australian chef who's Vietnamese, who goes back to Vietnam, to all the places where he used to hang out, and just does this massive Vietnamese tour. Bloody good stuff. I like a good cooking show. And you've been to Vietnam as well. I don't know if you guys know this, but I've actually been to Vietnam. You'll ban me. Xin chào.
15:56Mike Minogue:I've just got a text here on 3483. It's called Furious, not Vicious.
16:01Keyzie:Oh, yeah, Furious. Shocking bastard.
16:04Mike Minogue:So the TV show Jase was talking about is called Furious.
16:06Keyzie:That's why I couldn't find it on my phone.
16:09Mike Minogue:A lot of people texting in right now about it. What is it? Huh? What? Vicious. Oh. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
16:19Keyzie:Yes, indeed. Link and Park there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Friday afternoon. Are we happy it's Friday? Fellas, you looking forward to the weekend? No, I hate it, eh? Yeah, same. Yeah. Friday's my worst day. It's like, ah, bloody, we've got to get through the weekend until I get back to the show again.
16:36Mike Minogue:I'm stoked, man. Oh, really? A couple of days off, yeah. Because you're hung, eh? Huh? You hung today. Hammered yesterday. Hung today. Hammered tomorrow. Hung Sunday. I reckon probably even him for a hung Monday with old Keezy. Want to play golf on Monday, Keezy? No. Hey, half up to five, fellas. The old Friday frommer.
16:59Keyzie:Also, we have a bit of an update on Keezy's racing pigeon.
17:03Mike Minogue:Yeah, it's basically come last. Every single race it's been in, a complete waste of$400. so basically this weekend's race is do or die not literally for the racing pigeons but more on that after 5
17:18Keyzie:yeah good stuff mate
17:21Mike Minogue:The Hodaaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaaki
17:30Keyzie:It's the Hodaaki Big Show's Friday Throbber
17:37Keyzie:The Friday Throbber, yes indeed. Every Friday, each of the fellas in the studio here, we pick a song to get you in the mood for your Friday night, basically. Then what happens is you give us a call on 0800 Hauraki and say what you want the throbber to be. First of two wins.
17:55Mike Minogue:Well done, Jase. You had a mouth full of water and a heap of chips as well.
18:00Keyzie:I may have. I may have. Do you know we've said this over 200 times? Yeah. It's good, eh? But there might be 10 new people today, Mogi. I know, 100%. What is the throbber? What is it? 100%. I don't know about 10. It's a good reminder to me.
18:14Mike Minogue:Yeah. Do you sometimes forget? Yeah. Who wants to go first? Me. Okay, Mogi's first. What's your song, man? This is from a band called Linkin Park, and it just throbs. You hear that, man? You hear it? Yeah.
18:36It's Riff, Deasy. It's Riff. We like the riff. What about you, Odie J? What do you got, man?
18:45Keyzie:I got a bit of Muse.
18:53Hey!
18:57Psycho!
19:02Mike Minogue:What's the name of it? Psycho. Psycho. Nice. What was the name of your one? Faint, I think. Faint, that's right. A couple of good tunes there, fellas. I just went for some Pearl Jam, but a song I don't hear enough. Sure. Which I love.
19:13Keyzie:She had to turn around. When she couldn't help. She called her.
19:22Mike Minogue:A dissident is here. Dissident.
19:27Keyzie:I tell you what, three good tunes here, I reckon. Three tunes here, Phil. So you decide, New Zealand. Give us a call right now on 0800 Hauraki. In the meantime, let's have a bit of Foo Fighters.
19:39Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah! The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. It's the Hauraki Big Show's Friday throbber.
19:52Keyzie:Doosh, doosh. Yes, indeed. and I think it's fair to say three throbbers today, fellas. Three tunes, Fjell. I think so, I think so, I think so.
20:01Mike Minogue:Which is the idea.
20:02Keyzie:Yes. And Mogi kicked us off. This is me on the drums. Is it? Yeah. I'm like a Metro, man.
20:16A few beers, Gizli, couple of darts, brother.
20:19Keyzie:Bit of Linkin Park there. Doosh, doosh, doosh, doosh.
20:23Mike Minogue:Is that how it went? What did you choose? Bit of Muse Bit of Muse
20:31Mike Minogue:It's like a ho-down Yeah, it's definitely an old man riff, that one
20:41Mike Minogue:Psycho Psycho Yeah, nice It's got a bit of swagger to it, doesn't it? It does, mate, it does And I chose one of my favourite Pearl Jam songs, Dissident
21:02Keyzie:All right, you decide New Zealanders go to the phone lines. G'day, Steph, how's life? Oh, pretty grousey, mad dog, you sick son of a bee. Yeah, this guy gets it, man. He gets it, he gets it. What are you running with there, Steph? Oh, I'm actually a huge fan of your song, Hoytages, Bot. That was an absolute throbber. Good on you, mate. Good on you. That's huge.
21:21Mike Minogue:You have a good evening, Steph, right? Thanks, mate.
21:24Keyzie:Good on you, man. G'day, Jack, you mad bastard. How's life?
21:28Mike Minogue:Oh, g'day. Cheers, Bart. Doing well, thanks. How are you?
21:30Keyzie:Yeah, good. Thanks, mate. What are you running with here, Jack?
21:35Mike Minogue:Oh, got to be with old Moogie. Yeah, he's got to answer it, man.
21:39Keyzie:Hard out. The Mooganator.
21:42Mike Minogue:I don't know about it, Jack.
21:43Keyzie:That's my new nickname. Have you not heard about that? Have you heard that? Oh, that's pretty cool. Everybody's calling me the Mo-ganator. All right, good on you, Jack. G'day, Tony, you mad bastard. How's life? Yeah, bloody good, mate. Just having a beer down the garage listening to you guys. Oh, yeah. This is it. This is the one, man. Good on you. I've got to go for Lincoln Park. Yeah, yeah. I knew it. I knew it. Good on you, Tony. Crank it up, brother. Annoy your neighbours. Rib into the beers. I love you.
22:13Mike Minogue:Put him on hold, man. He's gone, man. I love you, Tony. He's gone. We ditched him. He's gone. He betrayed us. He's not coming back.
22:19Keyzie:He can just do his own thing in his own little bloody garage and keep his opinion to himself. This song will forever be mine and Tony's song. Me and Tony from Nelson, this is our song.
22:29Mike Minogue:Oh, Tony Pepperoni.
22:33Mike Minogue:3483, what do you think of today's Friday throbber? Crank it, you dogs.
22:46Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
22:52Keyzie:Yes, indeed, your Friday throbber there. Faint by Linkin Park.
22:56Mike Minogue:Faint. Yeah, man. Big tune there, Moggy, with another one. He's way out in front now, 15 wins for the year.
23:01Keyzie:Yeah.
23:02Mike Minogue:15, man.
23:03Keyzie:Unassailable, I'd say. Actually, I'm on 16.
23:06Mike Minogue:Okay. Am I? No, 15. Okay. Keezy's second on 10 with one asterisk. Why did I have an asterisk? Oh, because I played two parts of a song. That's right. That was out of it. Do you remember that, Jase? Yeah. Just blatant cheating.
23:20Keyzie:I mean, we've had some controversy on the old thrubber over the years. I think that was probably the biggest. I'd say so.
23:28Mike Minogue:Me choosing two different snippets. I don't know if it was the biggest. And, of course, Jase way in the back on seven with two asterisks and a small D. A small D is unrelated to the competition. It's just an observation. Yeah, yeah. Just when you guys saw me in the ear and all that. Yeah, we better mention that every throbber. But, Jase, Mogi has more than doubled your score.
23:51Keyzie:Yeah, that's great, Mogi. Well done, man.
23:54Mike Minogue:Thanks, mate. How are you feeling about it?
23:56Keyzie:I feel really good about it. I feel really good for Mogi. Yeah. I think he's been on fire.
24:01Mike Minogue:Yeah, but what about you, man? Because you've never won the throbber at the end of the year before, have you?
24:05Keyzie:No, I never have. And, again, I've got to reiterate, I'm very excited for Mogi. I think this is his best year yet. I'm going all right, aren't I? Yeah, yeah. He's getting better and better.
24:14Mike Minogue:Have you noticed that?
24:15Keyzie:Yeah, totally. I'm more concerned that you haven't had a win in a little while. You're worried about me, are you?
24:24Mike Minogue:Oh, thanks, man. No, it's all good. I mean, I'm on 10. Mogi's still sort of just on the horizon. I can still see him.
24:31Keyzie:But when was your last win? It's been a while. It feels like a while, that's all.
24:37Mike Minogue:Woke up this morning by Alabama 3 was my last win. Yeah, right, a couple of months ago.
24:41Keyzie:I think it was last year, maybe. Yeah, maybe. Maybe.
24:44Mike Minogue:But, yeah, far out. You're really lagging, aren't you? Seven. Like, that's crazy.
24:49Keyzie:I'm what you call, Keezy. A loser. A sleeper.
24:53Mike Minogue:Oh, a sleeper.
24:55Keyzie:Right? Yeah, you're asleep at the wheel. Yeah, and then I – yeah. Mouthful of chips. Can I please? Because they're really nice. Hey, coming up next, by the way, we're going to be having a bit of an update on your pigeon.
25:09Mike Minogue:My racing pigeon. I bought one for$400. It is racing this weekend. in its fifth race, I believe it is. So far, it hasn't won anything. It hasn't podiumed. It hasn't been in the top 15 once. So we're going to, I believe, get the trainer or someone on the line and have a bit of a yarn to them. That's up next after some news, Jase. There you go. Hey, everyone's a winner. Except Keezy. I think so. The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
25:36Keyzie:Yes, indeed, Bush there on the Hauraki Big Show this stormy Friday afternoon. Now, regular listeners to the show will know of the ongoing saga of Keezy's racing pigeon. Keezy on all wings, looking over his beak with me, Keezy. Would you like me to play the sting? Yeah, go on.
25:53Mike Minogue:Keezy on all wings, looking over his beak with me, Keezy. My pigeon, fellas, cost$400. I gave it to a strange man in Timaru named Pigeon Tim. I think his name was Tim. Well, he goes by Pigeon Tim. He prefers Pigeon Tim. Oh, does he? Yeah. He's raced in a whole heap of races so far. He came 90th and then like 50th or something and then a couple of 30s. He seems to be better over the long distances. And the good news is this weekend is an absolute stonker. Blenheim to Oamaru, 470 kilometers. Yeah.
26:26Keyzie:That's a big job. That's a big job, all right.
26:28Mike Minogue:It's huge. And the next closest is 150 kilometers less than that. And that was the longest so far where my pigeon managed to finish in the 30s.
26:36Keyzie:The good news is that Keezy on All Wings looking over his beat with me, Keezy, tends to perform better in the long distances. And also the great news is we've actually got Keezy on All Wings looking over his beat with me, Keezy, on the line now. G'day, Keezy on All Wings looking over his beat with me. Keezy, how's it going? Cool. Can you hear me? Yeah, we can hear you, mate. Are you in the coop, are you? Yeah, it's pretty noisy here, actually. There's a lot of other pigeons around. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
27:08Mike Minogue:Yeah, no, fair enough. Hey, listen, Keezy on all wings looking over his beak with me. Keezy, big race this weekend, man. Obviously, you know, you haven't performed amazingly, so I'm kind of counting on this weekend you doing the business. Well, why have you got such little faith, Keezy? Like, I'm just hitting my prime distance. Long distance is where I'm at. I'm not all hopped up on methamphetamine like these other pigeons who are doing these short tracks. Long distance is where it's at for me. So I think this weekend we're going to bring it home. We're going to bring it home, Keezy. Your best finish so far, Keezy on all wings, looking over his beak with me.
27:45Keezy has been sort of in the mid to high 30s. An extra 150Ks, you think that's going to get Keezy in the money here? Because he's saying some things about you this week. worry about your future if you don't deliver over the course of this weekend mate
28:02Mike Minogue:well I heard the interview I think it was a couple of days ago and they played in the coop here and he was saying a lot of terrible things about me and I just want to bring up a couple of things Keezy where's the training process been going on? I've heard nothing from you over the entire time he's a shocking bastard all the other pigeons are getting all this help from their owners and their trainers and I'm getting nothing. Are you serious? I didn't know I had to train the pigeon. I thought I just bought you, Keezy, on all wings, looking over his beak with me, Keezy, and then you just sort of fly home.
28:36Mike Minogue:Is that not how it works? No, it's classic. It's classic passing the buck. Yeah, that's right.
28:43Keyzie:You've got to spend money to make money, Keezy. Can I ask you, Keezy, on all wings, looking over his beak with me, Keezy, obviously a greater distance, the biggest distance thus far. have you been beefing up this week? Have you been loading up? I'll tell you what, there's somebody in this group
29:00Mike Minogue:who's shared a huge bit of steroid things with me. Yeah. I'm feeling it. I'm feeling it. My downstairs has shriveled up, but I'm feeling like my wings are at peak performance. Well, that's kind of the beauty about pigeon racing, isn't it? A lot of people won't know this, is steroid use is 100 % legal. Is it? So it's somewhat dropped the ball. I've got to ask you a question. I sort of asked this of any long distance runners, ultra marathoners, that sort of thing. When you need to take a dump, what's the plan? You just let it fly. You let it fly. And hopefully it creates some kind of like, some kind of distraction on the pigeons behind you.
29:38Mike Minogue:It's like a Mario Kart kind of oil slip situation. So how do you know about Mario Kart? Keezy on all wings looking over his beak with me, Keezy. Well, the other owners have given their pigeons some training exercises, and that's the competitive nature of Mario Kart. They've been training on that, but I've got nothing. They've been practising on the Xbox, have they?
30:00Keyzie:Keezy on all wings looking over his beak with me. Keezy's just been sitting in the corner of the coupe taking steroids, Keezy.
30:07Mike Minogue:Yeah, right. Okay. Well, listen, Keezy on all wings looking over his beak with me, Keezy. Obviously, no hard feelings, right? And good luck for the race this weekend, man. And trust the process, Keezy. Trust the process. And if you can send some kind of a little bit extra down this weekend, I've blown all my money this week on a bit of a Tuesday blowout. So if you can just send some nick downs that I can look after myself for the next couple of days, that'd be great. Cool. Okay, so my pigeon's hung over essentially. Great. Okay, well, to be fair, that's pretty fitting. Good luck for the race, mate, and we'll be keeping a close eye on you, all right?
30:42Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike, and Kesey. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki. I think I'll have myself a beer. The Radio Hodaki Big Show. Name our beer.
30:59Keyzie:Yeah, baby. Woo! Feeling those Friday vibes? It's going off, man. Cut some shapes for us. Go on, turn it up. Can you crank that up, Keezy, man? Yeah, here you go. It's as loud as it goes. Yeah, dance it. And four more. Yeah, boy. And three more.
31:13Mike Minogue:Uh-huh.
31:13Keyzie:And two more. Yeah. And one more. Let's go again.
31:19Mike Minogue:backbone of aerobics. Now, yes, we need you to name our beer
31:24Keyzie:thanks to our good mates at Emerson's who are on board again, eh, fellas?
31:27Mike Minogue:Certainly are, Jase. They, of course, heavily involved with the 2026 Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival. It's happening again two days, Friday, November 27th, Saturday, November 28th at Forsyth Bar. Over 75 beer, food and beverage vendors. Shapeys are playing. Troy Kingy's going to be there. Reb Fountain and Park Road as well.
31:46Keyzie:Bloody good.
31:47Mike Minogue:A huge event gets bigger and better every single year. And every year as well, Emerson's makes a special Big Show beer. This year it is a tropical hazy pale ale, and it just needs a name.
31:57Keyzie:That's all it needs, man. It's got everything else. It just needs a name. We've got the beer. We've got the bottles. G'day, Gary, you mad bastard. How's life? Oh, good, thanks, fellas. How's it going? Yeah, good, thanks, mate. You got a big Friday night plan there, Gaz? A bit of vino with a missus. Oh, yeah. Very rough. What do you go for in the vino department, Gaz, you sicko? Probably a nice Merlot. Oh, Merlot. You romantic bastard, you.
32:28Mike Minogue:Hey, Gary, what name have you got for our delicious beer, man? I went for Jason's Hazy Jizz. Right, and you'd be happy drinking a beer called Jason's Hazy Jizz. Oh, mate, I look forward to it. Good stuff Gary You hold the line brother You got yourself An Emerson's hoodie Alright Woohoo Thanks boys No worries mate Have a good evening Oh wow Okay That sounds yum Jase Is the BSA still going Or no What the broadcasting Nah I don't think so I think it's all G Do you have a big Frothing pint of that Jase
33:11Mike Minogue:Hey DunedinBearFestival.co.nz if you want tickets, by the way. We'll see you down there.
33:16Keyzie:Jeez. What? It's faith no more.
33:24Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
33:30Keyzie:Welcome back, you massive bag bones. Hope your Friday's absolutely going off. You're listening to The Big Show, incidentally, brought to you by Reburger.
33:38Mike Minogue:Oh, are you? Crave with your street food, freshly made with Reburger. Yeah? Scrumdiddly-umptious. Old Keezy over here, he's putting on a brave face. Kia kaha, man. I'm really proud of you. Thank you. Yeah. Thanks, Moggy. He's proud of me, Jase. I am. Are you proud of me, man? Because he's so hung. I mean, this might be the most hung I've ever seen, Keezy. It definitely is not. Just so bad. Yeah. Shocking.
34:04Keyzie:As I say, I am literally battling within myself at the moment to not... What? We're really proud of you, Keezy.
34:16Mike Minogue:What are you having for dinner tonight, Jase?
34:18Keyzie:Well, this is an interesting one. I bet it's hard. I guarantee it's boring. My wife is going to a gig tonight. Oh, giggity, giggity, giggity. And my daughter's coming back from being away. So I might make her a chicken korma. You won't. Yeah, I will. No, you won't. Got all the ingredients for it. Or I'll just Uber some stuff. There we go. Now we're talking. Yeah. Or I might just pick up a takeaway on the way home. What are you going to have, Keezy? Because, of course, you're hung. You're on pieces. And you've already eaten like four burgers and five bowls of dumplings.
34:57Mike Minogue:Yeah. Nine meals I've had. Friends of ours are coming over for dinner tonight, actually. Oh, you'll be loving that. But we're keeping it chill. We're just going to do takeout. So we're going to go to our local Thai joint. I'm going to get Oyster sauce beef stir fry Yeah With cashew On rice Yeah A gang penang red curry Yes With chicken Nice Medium spice Nice Just trying to figure out What third dish is What's everyone else
35:23Keyzie:Going to have
35:25Mike Minogue:We're splitting it Between four of us Jase The three dishes Alright Maybe a pad thai Maybe a sort of Panut chicken Yeah Yeah And why don't you Just sit on the couch Sort of fuming Oh I'm in bed I'm in bed playing Game Boy. Doos, doos.
35:40Keyzie:Until you go to your sleepover with the fellas tomorrow morning. Yeah, you've got to save your energy for the fellas.
35:45Mike Minogue:Yeah. They're really going to take it out of you. Yeah, good.
35:50Keyzie:Bit of sport chat next, fellas.
35:52Mike Minogue:Yeah, man. Yeah.
35:55Keyzie:Here's Soundgarden.
35:56Mike Minogue:The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hodaki. Yes, indeed.
36:03Keyzie:The Hives there on the Radio Hodaki Big Show this Friday evening. The time, 13 minutes past 6 o 'clock. Fellas, let's talk sport.
36:22Mike Minogue:Sports. Sporty, sporty, sport. Why don't we start with, fellas, the Warriors? Sporty, sporty, sport. Well, that's first, isn't it, Keezy? Tomorrow afternoon, 5pm at Mount Smart Stadium, the Warriors go up against the Manly Sea Eagles. Don't they, Keezy? We've just had news that Lekka Halosema is out with a minor ankle niggle, which is bad news for him, but he'll be back the following weekend, Jase. Don't you fret, brother? I was fretting, too. And outside of that, you've got Wade Egan's been arrested. A couple of the others. Who are somebody in the forwards? Kurt Capewell. Kurt Capewell, that's right.
36:59How are you feeling about this one, Keezy?
37:01Mike Minogue:I'm indifferent, to be honest. Can I ask you about how you feel about the minor premiership, which is the minor premiers are the team that finishes on top of the table at the end of regular season. I don't give a shit about it. Neither do I. I literally don't care. They talk about the money that gets won. It's$100 ,000. It's a pittance. And they split it between everyone, which is cool. Yeah, it goes to the club. Which is fine. And it is cool that you get the minor premiership. But I couldn't tell you. Last year, the Panthers were number one? Nah. Who? Well, you'll remember when I tell you this, and you remember for all the wrong reasons, the Canberra Raiders were the minor premiers and they went out in straight sets.
37:42Mike Minogue:That's right. They rested a whole bunch of players the week before. I think it was against the Dolphins. Dolphins put like 40 or 50, it wouldn't have been 50, but smashed them to bits. And then the following week, I think they played the Broncos. Yeah, the Broncos came back at a hell of a game. One of the great games for Reece Walsh. Great postseason. Yeah, it was out of the gate. So no, I don't give a shit at all. Not at all. And to be honest, we're first or second regardless of what happens, which I'm stoked about. I will just be watching it as a slightly steamed, massive fan of the Wars. Yeah, it's going to be a bloody ripper.
38:10Keyzie:Hey, the All Blacks are playing on Sunday morning again against the Box. 10 past 3. Three changes, I believe there's been. Asafa Oumuwa. Asafa Oumuwa, the hooker. He's replaced. And old Taylor's been dropped. Cody Taylor, yeah. And he's a bloody good player. He is. And I don't know if this is an injury, but it must be because he's been an absolute legend. we've got Sam Darry coming in at lock. Yeah, that's right. Well, the reason why they've decided, and this will be the first cap for Sam Darry, Dave Rennie said that the beauty of Sam Darry is he's got a massive engine on him. He goes and goes and goes.
38:51Yes. And given the style of game that they hope to be playing at, what do you call that there? Altitude. Altitude, thank you very much. They think that'll really play into their favour, so that's played a fairly big part in that selection, Jase.
39:04Keyzie:Yeah, it's going to be another cracker, let's be honest. There's been a real war of words between the coaches. They don't like each other very much, and I like that. Yeah, it provides a few stories, doesn't it, which is great. And this is a three-test series in South Africa. This one is the one that matters. Yes. If one of the teams is 2-1 up, and then they go over to Baltimore in a couple of weeks, whenever that is, and they have this fourth test, It doesn't matter if they square it up. It's a three-test series in South Africa. Yes. This is the one that matters. I agree.
39:36Mike Minogue:Johannesburg, 3.10am Sunday morning. Are you watching that live, fellas? Nah, I'll get up because it'll be Father's Day there, so I'll get up in the morning and have a croissant, coffee, watch that fast.
39:49Keyzie:Yeah, same. It's going to be absolutely magnificent, Keith.
39:52Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
39:56Keyzie:Primal scream there on the radio. Hodanky, big show this stormy, blustery and wet Friday evening. And dear. And dear. Fellas, I've had an interesting thing come up. I've had an opportunity come across my desk there, and I'm going to be commentating the Warriors game tomorrow night. Wow, how good. Warriors versus Manly, 5 o 'clock tomorrow afternoon. Very, very excited about it. I've done a fair amount of commentary before, Jase, with yourself. A little bit with you as well there, Kesey. But that's mostly been cricket, probably entirely cricket. Probably all cricket, yeah. I think all cricket. So I haven't done the Warriors before.
40:35And so I just thought I should hit you guys up. I'm a little bit nervous about it because you don't want to bugger it up. No. Are you at the stadium? I'm at the stadium. Wow, that's cool. I'm in the box right next door to the away team's coach's box. So that's going to be interesting. A hell of a vantage point up there. And dear, what an honour.
40:53Mike Minogue:Yeah, it's an amazing honour. A rare privilege. It is, because I've done it a few times from there back when the ACC and Sky were friends. Yeah. And it was one of the best things I've done in my career, purely because I love a team so much. I'm sitting in the box. It was the Sharks, Craig Fitzgibbon and the assistant coaches were literally next to us. Yes. And passed them in the hallway a couple of times. And you're calling a game at Mount Smart. It's a dream come true. Now, normally for me, and that's exactly right, Keezy, I feel exactly the same way. I cannot believe this opportunity. I'm so over the moon about it.
41:23And normally I don't like going to the games because I like to stay home and watch it on TV so I can swear and f and jeff and all that sort of thing, which I can't do. I can't do that at the game. But this is too good. So I just wanted to ask your advice, especially you, Jase. Yeah. I mean, he's never commentated the Warriors. On what I should do to prepare. Well, he would have no idea. Because I guess it's a little bit – just give us a minute here, Keezy, man. Oh, yeah. Because I guess the preparation is slightly different than what it would be around cricket. Yeah. Oh, look, I've done them all.
41:58Keyzie:Netball? Listen, yeah, netball is where I started off, Keezy. He started off netballing when you were still at school, didn't you? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Just commentating the local games. Darren did the goal show. Oh, the set is... What coverage was that? But I obviously... I was just at our... You know, I was over at the intercom at our school. High school, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Obviously a big occasion, a massive opportunity for you here, Mogi. Mogi. Michael. And, you know, I understand there will be a few nerves. It's only natural it means you care about it. Yeah. The first thing I would suggest is a few beersies.
42:38Keyzie:Oh, don't worry about that. A couple of settlers. Yeah. Just, you know, and depending on what your sort of constitution's like, three or four or five or six of those, pre-game. Responsibly. Responsibly, of course, of course, and then just sort of block them out every 10 minutes from there. You know what I mean? They've got a bar next door, so I'm going to get down there. I think it opens around midday. Little World, great spot. So just a little, you know, I get the shakes a little bit, I do. And so just a couple of straighteners there. Yeah, I think so. And the advantage is, too, you can hang out there for an hour or two before the game.
43:10Keyzie:I didn't realise there was a bar there. Yeah, five hours. And you get the vibe of the fans. You get the vibe and the atmosphere with a few beersies, with the locals, good stuff. Yeah, no, I think that'll be good. And I don't think, you know, I'm just going to try and make it entertaining. I mean, the people that we're doing it for are actually in the United Kingdom. Right, okay. Funnily enough. And I think they're quite a serious rugby league set up. But, you know, I thought we'd give it a bit of the ACC treatment, you know. Absolutely. Here's old sideline comments, Mogi, from In The Box. He's absolutely hammered.
43:44Mike Minogue:Wait, so this is This Warrior's Life, right? Right, the podcast. Great guys. And they've managed to bag this opportunity for UK coverage. Great podcast. And you're going to show up wasted and provide colour commentary and turn it into an ACC commentary. I think so, yeah. I reckon that's a great idea. Yeah, totally. Well, it just sort of feels like if anything goes wrong, it's not my problem. Totally. Who cares? Yeah, yeah, yeah. So the guys from This Warrior's Life, they've really taken it seriously, and I just sort of feel like just drink your way through it.
44:16Keyzie:And I'll be honest with you, Mogey. I'll be honest with you, mate. There's so many podcasts around. You know, if this turns into a disaster, you know, he's out effing and jeffing after a few beersies or whatever, don't worry about it, man. There'll be another opportunity somewhere down the line. Yeah, man, you'll find a podcast soon. Go in guns blazing. Thanks, man. You know what I mean? Just don't hold back. Be true to yourself. Oh, I appreciate that.
44:36Mike Minogue:Wild child. It's the name of the song from the Black Keys. Oh. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
44:45Keyzie:Pixies here on the radio. Hodaki, big show this Friday evening. We're heading into the weekend, fellas, so let's give out some much-needed advice.
44:54Mike Minogue:Be pretty nips 69 at gmail.com. Get in touch with the fellas. With the fellas. With the fellas. Fellas, why didn't we stop singing to that? You decided to stop singing. Did I? Because Jase kept yelling. No, no, no. That wasn't it. Pugs complained that we were ruining the song. we were ruining. No, it was more Keezy. It was Keezy. You were singing really well at first and then you just started going, hey, Paddy Nip. Which had a real charm to it, I thought. Certainly it had a charm to it. Hey, fellas, great questions come in here to meetpaddynip69 at gmail.com. Do you want to answer this one, Keezy?
45:33Mike Minogue:No, no, you guys are all G. This one's anonymous, of course, if we read it on the show, $50 Reburg about you. You can have a turn, man. No, this is actually specifically good for you two. Okay. G'day, fellas.
45:44Keyzie:If it's age-related, I'll be fuming.
45:47Mike Minogue:G'day, fellas. I'm 80. Nah, I'm just joking. G'day, fellas. My wife and I are about to have our first baby. Oh, God. And I'm wanting to know when a reasonable and responsible period of time after the birth that I could go and play some golf. My wife is an avid listener, so I'm really hoping the fellas can back me up here and put in a good word. Keep in mind, this will probably be a good chat for Keezy as he'll be having his baby in no time as well. Cheers, Anonymous. Well, he names you, man. He names you. So you're absolutely right. I mean, let's just say you were.
46:17Keyzie:Why? Why don't we just use it? No, I'm just saying, isn't it? Okay, fine. From your perspective, when would you feel most comfortable going and having a thwack with old hoity Jay?
46:30Mike Minogue:Oh, with you? Yeah, yeah. I reckon you'd have to go like five years. No, I reckon it's hard to say. I'm not a dad. You guys have been dads. Have been. And continue to be dads. There's a... Oh, you all right, man? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Can you go and pat him on the back? Keezy has a coffin. He's choking. Get him, man. Go and cough him. Cough him up. There you go, man. Harder. Harder.
46:56Keyzie:Harder than that. I would... I think from recollection, when my firstborn was born... Bjorn? It was three years before I played my next game. Wow. Yeah.
47:10Mike Minogue:But having said that... You weren't big into it though, were you?
47:13Keyzie:No, I hadn't started playing at that stage. So I started three years after she was born.
47:20Mike Minogue:Right, so it literally doesn't apply is what you're saying. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What about you, Moggy? Because it's a four or five hour commitment. Well, the funny thing about it is you're probably best off. You see what you think about this, Jase. You spend a day, maybe two at the hospital just for a little bit of recovery. and then you've got the terrifying drive home with your baby on board for the first time. Absolutely terrifying. You're driving along at about three kilometres an hour, actually increasing your chances of crashing, weirdly enough. And then you get the kid home, really drop them off on the porch, have your clubs in the boot, and then just go.
48:01Oh, really? Straight away? 100%, because you'll find that for the first six weeks, the baby is just asleep 100 % of the time. wakes up for a feed but there's nothing you can do to help there so you might as well
48:13Mike Minogue:play golf the thing about it is by the time it gets to this point baby pregnant birth got at home got everyone's at home yes you've done your job man you're good to go you've got probably 18 months to three and a half years before you have to do anything really it's really once the sort of sports stuff comes in don't you like provide support and stuff to the mum Yeah, but that can all be done via text. Oh, right. Okay, I didn't know that.
48:43Keyzie:It's probably a good time, you know, in that scenario, to buy a membership. You know what I mean? Yeah, like a full year. Yeah, like a full year membership. Because you're going to have a lot of free time. You know, and it's a pretty lonely business, isn't it, sometimes? Can I say when your wife or girlfriend posts on Instagram, like all the baby photos and everything like that, make sure you're liking and commenting. Yeah, okay. So she feels like you're participating. That's a good shout, fellas. Yeah.
49:09Mike Minogue:Well, there you go. I hope that helps. All the best for that, by the way. Yeah. Yeah. Let us know how it goes. Meet PaddyNip69 at gmail.com if you ever need help. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
49:35Keyzie:I reckon we should extend this last breakout for as long as possible because Keezy's loving it. He's desperate to get home, isn't he? Why do you say? Can you just shut up and get on with it?
49:52Mike Minogue:For some reason, you decide you're going to go really big on the last break and you drag it out. Like, just let's get this thing done, man.
49:58Keyzie:Okay. Now, listen, we do the disclaimer, which is a bonus podcast. What's the clip today, Keezy?
50:04Mike Minogue:Today's bonus podcast clip is called Public Shaming, and it comes out at 7.30 tonight, wherever you get your podcasts from. Now, before you play that, Keezy, man. What? How's it all going? Yeah, good, man. Thank you. I get there to pick up my order. It's not ready yet. I haven't even started cooking it yet. So I have to sit there for 10 minutes. And I'm just sitting there and then I just hear this like, do-do-j, do-j. And this prick is driving past in his car yelling do-do-j at me. And I'm just like, f***ing hell. I just want to have my shameful hungover food. In peace. In peace. If you listen to the podcast, you'll find out what that is.
50:45If you can get in touch with the Horeki Big Show, that fella we'll get him out a backbone t-shirt because he is absolutely done Keezy there yeah totally this isn't the thing Mogi Mogi's trying to make
50:54Mike Minogue:he's done you there specifically me nah anyone it can be anyone what about like we get t-shirts made of he's done you there Keezy and it's me on all fours looking over my shoulder
51:08Keyzie:I think that is so really well actually can somebody out there make that image for us we've had some great images getting made make that image for us send it through to our Pugs arm there and Pugs will get it And Pugs will get it made into a T-shirt in a couple of years. Mo, what are your plans for tonight, the weekend? I'll be honest with you, man. I've got a bit of a – I'm pretty keen to get on it. Yeah, okay. But I've got a day in front of me tomorrow, so I'll try and restrain myself. Then the other thing is, of course, I've got Father's Day on Sunday there. Yes. So I can be a little bit hungover that day if I want to be.
51:41Yeah, totally. But I might want to have a lovely day with the family. I don't know. I haven't decided. Of course, the other option is, because I've got to watch the rugby, there on Sunday morning, and I'm going to watch that with a croissant, a little cup of coffee there.
51:57Mike Minogue:What are you doing this weekend, Jase?
51:59Keyzie:Well, no, it's your turn, Kesey. No, you're not going last. You're not going last. You've got your boys' weekend tomorrow. I'm worried about this. 20 dudes getting together at 10 o 'clock tomorrow out in Clevedon.
52:12Mike Minogue:For the official blessing of the Dobros. Yes, apparently, whatever that means. Right. And we've all pitched in to fly a bloke up from Christchurch as of tonight as well. So he's stoked, which is lovely. Yeah, that's lovely. Really good. What are you doing, Jase?
52:28Keyzie:Oh, this is the thing. You know, it's funny because especially with weekends. We'll be back Monday. Keezy, please. I'm in this really weird position actually at the moment where because my wife's going to a show tonight and it's like, Do we meet before her show? And my daughter's coming home, so I'm just trying to figure out, do I cook something for her and see if she wants to do that? Or do I just let my wife go to a show and then my daughter and I maybe get something? But then on the Sunday, we were meant to be having lunch with a maid of ours, but she's got the flu. And I think tomorrow my wife and I were going to do Do the normal septi morning and the CBD.
53:17Keyzie:Just go for a little breakfast.
