In short

The Hauraki Big Show (full episode) mixes relationship advice, TV/review chat, local competitions, recipe talk, sleep tips, and listener Q&A. Core segment: “How To Prolong a Marriage” via a comedic “silent treatment” strategy after a coffee mishap (wife says the coffee is too strong; husband waters it down but stays furious).

Key claims

Hoity J says silent treatment is an “art form,” best handled with improv-like timing, avoiding over-explaining, and using quick “high pitch no”/distraction if confronted.

Notable examples

the improv scene where the “wife” asks if he’s sulking and he repeatedly exits rooms (bedroom/bathroom) while wheezing; later advice that a mature alternative is simply explaining you’re upset. Other notable bits: spring salad recipe (salted lemon ricotta and date salad); acne advice (don’t over-wash); sleep reset (anchor wake time, morning light, push bedtime later).

Guests

No external guests appear in the transcript; the hosts are Jason Hoyte, Mike Minogue, and Keyzie (Keezy), plus producer “Pug-san/Pugs” and “Hoity J” as the marriage/advice voice.

0:00Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show. Thanks to crave-worthy street food. Freshly made with Reburger. Welcome to the Hauraki Big Show.

0:12Keyzie:With Jason Hoyte, Mike Minogue and Keyzie. Oh g'day you mad bastards. Great to have your company this Wednesday afternoon. It is the 23rd of September 2026 and you my friends as always, listening to The Big Show brought to you by Reburger.

0:28Mike Minogue:Beef, chicken, vegan and vegetarian options. Re-burger are redefining the norm. Fellas?

0:37Keyzie:What bit? I don't know. Re-burger. The system didn't work. What the heck? Hey, Mogey, Estallion, how's life? Going pretty grousey, you mad dog. You're sick son of a bee. Have I got some sleep chat for you later on in the show, fellas? How good. Little tease that I'm doing there. Love it. Spring has sprung, Jason. You can tell that because it's four degrees and blowing a goddamn goal. Yeah, and pissing down at the moment. Didn't we? We had a couple of weeks over there, didn't we? Yeah, we did. We did. Warmed up. Yes. We called it a false dawn. It was a false dawn. Here we are, freezing again. Keezy, how are you going, man?

1:08Other than the fact you...

1:11Mike Minogue:Come on, man. It's obviously got a massive delay on it. I'm good, fellas. Just a reminder, we've got a brand new system that's been installed here. I've never used it before, and it just shat itself. You know what springs to mind? A poor workman blames his tools. Yeah. I'm not blaming you guys. I'm good fellas anyway Oh that's good man It's good stuff Jase how are you going man?

1:35Keyzie:Yeah good thanks You know Are you man? You alright? Yeah no I'm bloody dandy

1:39Mike Minogue:That's great man

1:40Keyzie:You know what I mean? Just getting by Getting by As you do fellas On some days Are you fizzed up For a big Wednesday? Oh I'm always fizzed up For a Wednesday Keezy

1:54Keyzie:What's happening on the big show With old Mogi Well, we've got an exciting day today, fellas. Later on in the show, we're going to be talking to a... Now, we don't do politics here as a rule. Yes. And that's been since day dot. If you want politics, you go to some people who actually know about politics. And that's not us. No. However, there's been a party that's come across our table, and we've all been made aware of it separately. Trust New Zealand, they're called. Some interesting policies. So we're going to be talking to James Harrison after 5 o 'clock some point. Not only that, they're old Keezy.

2:28I don't know what the guts is with this, man, but you've got a bone to pick with small international business owners. Is it true that I just have to stick around to find out what that is actually all about?

2:37Mike Minogue:I would advise, Mogi, that you do stick around to find out. Yeah. When you read it out like that, it does sound like I've got some sort of pretty intense gripe with people. No, it's not that big.

2:46Keyzie:Well, I've never seen you so angry. And when you were telling us about it, you were fuming. Was I? The veins were bulging in your neck while you were talking about it. Yeah, your neck. Also, coming up next, fellas, I need some advice from old Hoity Jay over there. Sure, man. You've been married for longer than me, man. I just need to pick those big brains of yours. Yeah, sure. No worries, Mogey. In the meantime, here's a bit of bush for you Wednesday.

3:14Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.

3:18Keyzie:Oasis there on the Hauraki Big Show. this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 14 minutes past 4 o 'clock. Hoi, Joe, I need your advice, man. Sure, man. I had an interaction with my wife this morning that left me absolutely fuming, and let me talk you through it. As I do every morning, I get up at around 3, 4, 5 o 'clock, get up, do a little bit of work. Yes. Around about 7 or 8, my wife wakes up. I'll make my... Well, actually, that's not true. My daughter will wake up and then jump into bed with my wife. My wife will read my daughter a book, and I'll make coffee for my wife and a piece of toast for my daughter while that happens, right?

3:54Yes. Every single day.

3:55Mike Minogue:It's lovely. Now, this morning I made it, went in, took it in there, happy ears, went out, came back in for something or other, and my wife looks at me and she goes, strong brew. Oh, yeah. Strong brew. There we go. And I said, oh, is it? Because I'm thinking to myself, same way I make it every day. Yes. Same way I make it every day. Now, I'm not displaying that emotion. No. On the outside, I'm perfectly normal. Wow. I said, oh, would you like me to put some hot water in it? And she says, oh, yes, please. And I say, no worries. And I grab the cup off her and I take it out into the kitchen, put the jug on to put some hot water in, water it down a bit so it's not as strong for you, you know.

4:43And the whole time I'm fuming. Yeah.

4:45Mike Minogue:Well, I was going to say, that's great. Now you know for next time. Now, the thing about it is, I do this every morning for her. I know how to make a cup of coffee. Yes. Do you know what I'm saying? Yes, I do. And so, and then immediately after this, I had to leave. And so I've been sort of mulling it over over the course of the day. Now, I don't know how to deal with it. And then I thought, Jase has been through this. Boy, have I. That's right, because you burn the milk, eh? And this is a, so what happened with you, Jase? Well, do you want to explain what happened with you?

5:16Keyzie:Well, I mean, my wife will claim that I didn't talk to her for two days. Well, that's right. So you burnt the milk. She pulled you up on it, said you've been doing it for years. You were fuming, and she says that your trick to it, your resolution to it, well, not punish, so she knew how you felt was you gave her the silent treatment for two days, and I sort of feel like that's what should happen in this situation. But I'm a little bit worried that I'm going to chicken out. because what happens, for example, it's easy just sort of milling about the house. You bring a dark cloud in with you wherever you go.

5:53Sort of an easy thing to do. And as an actor, you've sort of got that ability anyway. My concern is if she asks me a question or something, will I crack?

6:00Mike Minogue:Just before you get into this, Moggy, if I may, I think don't take it personally. You know what I mean? She's just been like, hey, I love the way you make coffee and stuff. I love our morning routine, but I actually wouldn't mind just a bit more hot water. I think she's just comfortable enough to tell you how she actually likes it. Yeah, she didn't say either of those first two things that you just said. Kesey, just leave this to me, thanks.

6:23Keyzie:Now look, if you're going to embark on this particular course of action, and I've been married for nigh on 30 years, Maggie. Since you were nine. So I know what I'm talking about. And it is a very – if the avenue that you're going to go down is the silent treatment, it's not easy. It's not for the weak. Because there will be occasions where your wife will notice this. Yes. You know what I mean? And as you say, at times she may directly confront you on it. For example, she may say, are you sulking?

7:08and that's exactly what I'm worried about because that's happened before

7:11Keyzie:and I've had to say no that's where you're going to have to break the silent treatment but only very briefly with a high pitch no no and then make your way to another room like sometimes she might even say something like are you not talking to me that's another one that's a direct kind of that worries me too and that's when you've got to master the distracted look preferably be on your phone or something like that and then just make a noise like and then something like wheeze and then go straight to the bathroom it's also about if you're going to take this particular course of action timings, of course.

8:05Keyzie:Right. When is she home? Yes. When is she going to be in the lounge? When will she be in the kitchen? Very complicated. Well, Keith, I've got some more questions around this. We have to come back to the 3483 if you've got any advice as well. Yeah, mate. In the meantime, here's system of a down.

8:23Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. Red

8:30Keyzie:hot! Chilli peppers there on the Hauraki Big Show. this Wednesday afternoon, the time 4.27. So an interesting one today, fellas. This morning I took a coffee into my wife, as I always do. She indicated that it was too strong. I'd made it too strong for her, despite the fact that's how I make it every day. So I offered to water it down with some boiling water, and since then I've been fuming about it, stewing, and that made me think, well, if anybody knows about this, it's Hoardy J. Yes. So I've asked your advice on how to apply the silent treatment. How do you administer the silent trick? It is an art form, Moggy, I'll give you that.

9:09Keyzie:I'll give you that. You're the master of it, eh? It is a really tricky route to take. Yeah.

9:15Mike Minogue:Bloody satisfying, though. Well, the best way, for the record, I don't really agree with this method, but the best way to sort of practice something, fellas, is to do an improv. Sure. Quiet on set. Sound speed. Lights.

9:29Keyzie:Camera.

9:30Mike Minogue:Action. Now it's time for the Big Show Improv. So I guess I'll play, because you want to see it in action, right? Yeah, it'll be good. And maybe if there's time, I might have a go as well, just have a crack at it. But if there's not, that's totally fine. But yeah, Keesy, if you can be the wife coming home. So I'm Jase's wife. Yeah, hoity J, you've been there just waiting. The amount of times I've thought of that. Looking forward to this moment. Yes. And now you can sort of, I guess, is there some kind of a, well, you can show me. You hear the key in the door And do you have to put on the side It's a character or what's the story I guess we'll see Action For the improv let's just

10:16That's not going to work in this case He's not going to open the door I reckon use your key

10:20Mike Minogue:Fine I'll get my key out Babe Why is this door locked Okay fine I'll unlock it myself Does your wife talk to herself?

10:32Keyzie:She does, actually, especially when I'm not talking to her.

10:35Mike Minogue:Sorry, are you in character still, man?

10:36Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, sorry, man.

10:38Mike Minogue:Oh, hey, babe. Jase. Hi, how are you? Sorry. Good, good. Oh, how have you been? How's your day been? Good. Right. You don't want to know how my day's been? Sorry, what? I was just wondering. Always. Oh, you need to go wheeze. Right, okay. Sweet. Right, so that would be the first sort of stage there. That would be, so you've established a sort of, you've got her off centre there, off balance. Yes. And then you've left the room. Yes, that's really good.

11:13Keyzie:Can I just reiterate, before we get into the next segment, I spend 25 minutes in the toilet.

11:20Mike Minogue:Okay, you're doing a pug sign. Okay, I get it, yeah. Okay, so you've been, and you've finally come back out again. Oh, far out. You took your time in there. I might have to start calling you pug son. I'm sorry, babe. Is there something? Are you annoyed about something? Have I done something wrong? What's that? Are you annoyed about something? No, no. You're not giving me the silent treatment, are you?

11:49Mike Minogue:Babe. Babe. Are you seriously? Is this still about the coffee this morning? No.

11:59Keyzie:It's just work stuff, all right? Work stuff, but you do F all. Bloody Casey. Sorry, I've got to deal with this. Okay, sorry. Nice. So that's another exit. Exit. Where did you go that time? Bedroom. Oh, bedroom that time. Yeah, yeah. Right, so you're getting sort of a few out and then you're off. Yes. The worst thing you can do is over-elaborate here. Yes. You know what I mean? Because she's trying to corner you, isn't she? She's trying to go, what the hell's going on here? Yeah, she wants answers. And it's like, I'm not giving it to you.

12:32Mike Minogue:See, and I don't know because you've been married for way longer than I have. 30 years, Keezy. So something's working. Yeah, 100%. I would have just explained that I was upset to my wife. To be honest, I'm just a bit gutted that I've been making you coffee for 10 years and I only find out today that I've been doing it wrong. So just so you know, that's how I would deal with it. But how would she react if Jay said that? You know, it's so childish. Oh, yeah, true. And similarly for me, I can't imagine that my wife is going to be over the moon, that I'm absolutely fuming about the fact that she's asking me to...

13:05You've got her coffee wrong. Yeah, that's right.

13:06Keyzie:Yeah. Well, because it makes you look like a petulant, ignoramus child. Right, right. You should grow up and just get on with your life. That's right. I mean, who does the silent treatment? So what you don't want to be doing is having a...

13:19Mike Minogue:Yeah, a tete-a-tete about it. Whereas the silent treatment makes you look sort of tough. Well, it's not about how it looks. It's about payback.

13:29Keyzie:Yeah, it's like I've been deeply humiliated here. Right. And now it's your turn. And now, you know, you can't expect after humiliating me like that and saying after 30 years I overheat the milk and expect that to just be all tickety-boo.

13:46Mike Minogue:So payback is a big factor.

13:48Keyzie:Well, you know, and then two, three days down the track you start to loosen it off a bit. You start to... Crack a smile. Yeah, you know, morning.

13:59Mike Minogue:Yeah.

13:59Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, yeah. Where were you last night? Oh, I just had stuff to do. So you don't go home, are you? Yeah, no, no. Not for a couple of nights. Right.

14:07Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. Yes, indeed.

14:13Keyzie:The Strokes there on the Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday afternoon, the time 4.41.

14:19Mike Minogue:Fellas, it's not the size of your dick that counts. It's what you do with it.

14:23Keyzie:Yeah, man.

14:23Mike Minogue:The old saying, tradetested.co.nz. It's a website where you can go along there and buy everything to do with your backyard, your deck, outdoor stuff. Or your front. Or your front yard. Whatever you are. It doesn't matter. But it's a great website. Heaps of great stuff on there. And they have put together a bit of a competition where you head to tradetested.co.nz. Yes. You put a shopping list together worth up to two and a half grand on the dot. You then upload a screenshot of it at hodaki.co.nz, and we choose one lucky person every single week. And on Friday, we give them a call and say, hey, that shopping list you put together, you're having all of it.

14:59Mike Minogue:How good, man. That's right. Pretty bloody good, isn't it? Be all sorted for spring and summer. That's right. TradeTester.co.nz there. Screenshot your shopping list. Upload it at hodaki.co.nz under the big deck energy winning tab there, and boom. So I've got a few shopping lists here, fellas. Yes. One lovely person in Hastings has a - What's his name? Her name is Helen. Helen. We're not doing that. Oh, right. We're not doing that here. Back. Helen has asked for a 1200 watt generator, a premium wet dry vacuum, a 200cc self-propelled lawnmower, a bit of fencing privacy screen. Wow. An eco outdoor solar rinse station, like an outdoor shower.

15:49Mike Minogue:Yeah. How good. I know what's going on here. All of that adds up to$2 ,395. Sounds like she's going to have a sicko fest. Oh, is that a classic? In the backyard or front.

16:00Keyzie:There's only one reason you get a screen put up there, Kesey. A privacy screen. Yeah, yeah. For privacy.

16:06Mike Minogue:Yeah, so that the neighbours can't see, right? Yeah, yeah. For your sicko fest. Another person here, fellas, check this out. A mini kid's dirt bike. A mini kid? Sorry, not like a small goat. Like a kid's dirt bike. A little 49cc dirt bike there. A kid's mini bike. That's right. Do they have those? Yeah. Wow. A mini air compressor. Compressure. A sort of barbecue and a hose reel. A sort of barbecue? What's that? What's a sort of barbecue? No, an actual barbecue. Right, okay. and a hose reel, retractable hose reel. I like those. Yeah, so do I. Very convenient. That was one of the great events. You pull the hose there, Keezy, and it just goes, goes straight back in there.

16:46Mike Minogue:Does it beep? Yeah, it makes a noise, yeah. $2 ,496. How good. Now, this person here has completely missed the point. So they've screenshotted their shopping list. The first thing is a long-hauled pizza oven, wood-fired, freestanding,$1 ,300. Reduced price, you know, good deal. Oh, it's on sale. Yes. Yeah, yeah. They've then added a louvre roof system, two metres by three metres in charcoal, which itself costs$2 ,800. Right, okay. So their shopping list is$4 ,098.

17:16Keyzie:They've overshot the mark is what you're saying.

17:18Mike Minogue:It's 100 % correct. Shock and bust. So unfortunately that person won't be winning, and here's the tip, that person's from Hobsonville. Is that person disqualified? I guess that particular entry doesn't count, so they'll have to redo it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And we'll keep an eye on them trying to make another entry, right, because they've buggered it up. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We'll blacklist them. Yeah, good. We'll make it so none of their cars can pick up Hodaki anymore. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, nice. So a reminder, tradetester.co.nz, and then enter what you want to win at hodaki.co.nz slash bigdeckenery.

17:46Keyzie:Yeah, good stuff, Kese. Get involved, New Zealand. That's a hell of a prize. We'll be doing that this Friday. Yeah, calling another winner. Yeah, how good in the meantime. But a U2 for you.

17:55Mike Minogue:The Hodaki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hodaki. Yes, indeed.

18:00Keyzie:Indeed. Foo Fighters there on the Hodaki Big Show this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 4.52. Let's talk TV. What's on the telly with Mike Minogue?

18:16Mike Minogue:Yeah! That's right.

18:21Fellas, I didn't really watch much of anything last night, but I just heard Jay start to try and describe what it was that he was watching last night. and in an effort to protect him from having to do it again, I'll talk about the little thing that I did watch. After your recommendation, Kesey, I watched a little bit of, I thought it was Jonathan Fang. It was Jonathan Pang. Pang, yeah, that's right. He's a train guru. All made trains. Oh, God, yeah. He's a really enormous human being. And he's fabulous. And he's fabulous. I love him. Let's put it that way. The stuff I saw of him was interesting because he was going from, look, A to B, in a particular Asian country.

18:59I looked up the cost of those, the train as well, after you said that you'd done the same thing. These are luxury train rides. High end. Yeah. So 12 ,000 US for one of these train rides. And they are luxurious. I'll give him that. But it's quite interesting because first of all, he has a look around the local markets and things. He gets a vibe and just laughs, throws his head back and just laughs. Ah, ah, ah, ah. Yeah, I love him. At nothing. I love him. At absolutely nothing. No, he's great. I'm not saying he's not great. Yeah. But he's in his own world. Absolutely dying laughing. Nobody else knows what's going on.

19:38Then he gets on the train and just looks out the window while he's eating. So every shot is like they just put him meal after meal after meal in front of him. And he's like, the next meal was pineapple frittata and something or other. never says a word about what it tastes like. No, he says it's gorgeous. He says that's what it is. Right. It's about how it looks, that's right, not how it tastes. No, he eats it and says, oh, that's gorgeous. Oh, right, I never heard him say anything about the food. But the whole time you're sort of just staring out the window because that's a good angle for him.

20:08So highly entertaining. But also the ones that I was watching, they must be from about 30 years ago because then I saw an interview with him and he's an old man. Yeah, I think they're from about 10 years ago. He's like, well, yeah, quite a long, I think. Oh, wow, even longer. He's really grey and he's lost a ton of weight. But highly entertaining, four busies out of a possible five.

20:27Mike Minogue:See, one of my favourite things is there's this one episode where he's in this train doing a five-course meal and he's sitting there and they just keep bringing him food and keep buying him drinks. And then he's visibly pissed trying to do his final sort of piece to camp to wrap up the whole episode. And he stumbles back to his room and he's just like, well, I've had enough to eat tonight. And he's so clearly pissed. His eyes are tiny, like he can barely see.

20:52Keyzie:Sounds like great stuff.

20:53Mike Minogue:And he just says something and then laughs a lot. Yeah, that's right. I love it.

20:57Keyzie:Fellas, today I watched something called the K Road Chronicles, which is a reporter, and it's on YouTube, I think, and it's a reporter who basically just tells stories about the stuff going on in K Road, namely you're homeless, all the stuff that's going on there. He also writes like a kind of weekly little newspaper called the K Road Chronicles. It's actually bloody good. It's really, really good. And he just goes around and sort of interviews all the people that live on the street and all that sort of stuff. And you get a real insight into the sort of stories of all those types of people, which is really fascinating.

21:37Keyzie:So go and check that out on YouTube. The K Road Chronicles. In terms of buzies, what are we looking at? Look, you know, for that sort of show, I'll give it a solid 3.7 buzzies out of five. It's good stuff. Local content as well. Yeah, local content.

21:53Mike Minogue:And, you know, makes you think. Makes you think. 100%. Fellas, coming up after five o 'clock, we've got a politician coming in from the Trust New Zealand party. We don't do politics on the show. It's kind of a rule we have, but this guy's politics are pretty crazy. So we're going to have him in for a bit of an interview. Also, I'm going to Japan in a couple of weeks. Yes. And, of course, we've got Pug-san, our producer, who lived in Japan for a wee while there, so I wouldn't mind getting him in and just asking him for some advice if that's all G, fellas. Go on, man, sure. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy.

22:28Mike Minogue:Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.

22:30Keyzie:Welcome back, you massive backbones. Hope you're getting through your hump day tickety-boo. You're listening to The Big Show, incidentally, brought to you by Reburger.

22:39Mike Minogue:Crave-worthy street food freshly made with Reburger. We're going to need a bigger burger. Yum, yum, yum, yum. We must be due another long one, are we, pugs, man? I love that one.

22:57Keyzie:I personally love the chatty ones.

23:00Mike Minogue:Yeah, because you don't have to talk for like 45 seconds.

23:02Keyzie:Yeah, well, it's exhausting talking, Keezy, you know what I mean? I like the Jaws one and the James Bond one. Yeah. And that... Oh, okay. I'm pretty much a fan of all of it. I'm a fan of all of them. Actually, incidentally, do you want to get Pugs in because you're about to go to Japan, Kesey? Was that the idea?

23:21Mike Minogue:Well, yeah, I'm going to Japan in a couple of weeks, and I've never been before. And Pugs lived there for a while and is very clued up. I mean, his name is Pug San, you know?

23:31Keyzie:Yeah.

23:31Mike Minogue:It's a Japanese term of sort of respect.

23:34Keyzie:Yes. Can I just say, just on that front, I've become addicted to on YouTube. There's an old guy in Japan, and he's a sashimi master. And he fillets fish in your tunas, and he makes sashimi and so forth. And he's absolutely magnificent. I swear to God, he must be like 80 years old, and he's hauling fresh fish in buckets of water and stuff and chopping them all up. But what I love about him, the entire time he's doing that, he's got a durry out the side of his mouth.

24:04Mike Minogue:That's good shit, eh? You know what I mean?

24:05Keyzie:So he's doing this most beautiful filleting and stuff with a durry hanging out of his mouth. It's good stuff.

24:12Mike Minogue:Well, that's one of the issues I've got is I don't really like fish. That is such a tragedy. It is. Because you've got your fatty tuna and all that sort of stuff.

24:21Keyzie:Well, tuna's very meaty, Keezy. I don't know why you wouldn't like it.

24:25Mike Minogue:Well, to be honest, the only tuna I've eaten in New Zealand is out of a can. Yeah, well, that's the best stuff. Is it? They only put the best stuff in the can. Yeah, totally. Yeah, yeah, yeah. If you've had that, why even go to Japan? Really? Would be my opinion. Why book Flexi so I could cancel it? Yeah, I would can it. Maybe I go to Japan. Can it? Nice. Maybe just go to Aussie with Jase. Yeah, actually, I need some help on that. Spread your wings, man. Spread your wings. You need help with that as well.

24:51Keyzie:It's under control, fellas. It's all under control. It's not giving me a headache at all. In the meantime, there's Linkin Park.

24:59Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.

25:05Keyzie:Head like a hole there on the Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday afternoon. The time is 5.25. And fellas, as you know, I get approached on the street all the time. People, big fans of the show. Big fans of the show. The thing I guess that has surprised me the most over the years is what people seem to love the most from me is when I do my recipes. Oh, really? Because people love their food and they love to learn about new recipes. And the amount of people that have come up to me after, you know, and said, Jase, I tried that blah, blah, blah soup recipe. You did it. It's bloody delicious, mate. Right.

25:45Keyzie:And just today, for example, I had a guy come up to me while I was in the supermarket and he said, Jase, have you got any good recipes for like spring salads sort of thing? And I went, do I? With that in mind, I thought I'd start getting back to my recipes. and specifically spring salad recipes. Kesey, if you could play that sting.

26:05Mike Minogue:We don't have a spring salad chat sting. What about winter soup chat? Nice. Oh, that'll do. Onion. Potatoes. Croutons. Garlic. A little bit of cracked pepper in there. Stock. Herbs. Quimps. Winter soup chat.

26:22Keyzie:We're fulfilled. We didn't do enough of that over the winter. No, we didn't. I know. I don't know why it dropped off. One a week. Yeah, it was disgraceful. So I want to leave one salad a week out of you, Hoardy J. Actually, Moogie, I think this is one you'll enjoy. It's a salted lemon ricotta and date salad. Salted lemon ricotta and date salad. That sounds pretty intense. Well, it is intensely good. Ah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, but you're right. It does have some bold flavours. Bold flavours.

26:56Mike Minogue:Because when I make a salad, it's like some lettuce, grated carrot, and then like some corn kernels. Yeah, yeah.

27:02Keyzie:Well, this is the sort of salad that would have gone great, for example, with your beefy, hearty lasagna. That reminds me, actually, from the Come Down With The Fellas. I must get the recipe for your entree. Yes. Carry on. Okay, fellas. So, as always, with any recipe, everyone needs to know what you need for this particular. Ingredients. Ingredients, yes. in an ingredients list. You'll need one unwaxed lemon.

27:29Mike Minogue:Unwaxed?

27:30Keyzie:Yeah. I'm pretty sure my lemons are all waxed. Right. Look, at a stretch, that'll be fine, Keezy. If you don't have a waxed or unwaxed, you can do your kiwi fruit, your persimmon, your orange, your mandarin. Yes, Moggy. What's an unwaxed? It's a particular growing technique. Right, because I thought it was the skin. And it's organic. Oh. You see, what they do these days, and it disgusts me. Shocking bastards. Your commercial growers will grow the lemons and then just put a wax over them. To make them look all shiny and delicious. Shiny, thank you. Exactly.

28:08Mike Minogue:Oh, because I thought it was that they were actually hairy, and then they waxed them. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. A hairy lemon.

28:17Keyzie:You'll need 300 grams of freshly potted peas. Freshly who? Potted. Oh, removed from the pods. Yes. Oh. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, what about just frozen ones or whatever? Well, you could go with the petite pois. But no, I would not do frozen peas. Right, what about just frozen carrots? Carrots are fine. Or, you know, those bags of mixed vegetables you can get. Well, hang on, those have peas in them. Yeah, I know, but they're mixed with other vegetables, so it kind of balances out. How good's a bag of mixed vegetables? At a stretch, a Brussels sprout.

28:52Mike Minogue:So you'd rather a Brussels sprout and a full bag of mixed veggies than just frozen peas? Yes.

28:59Keyzie:Extra virgin olive oil, two tablespoons, and plus extra for the dressing. Right. We don't really do... I've only got rapeseed at home. Yeah, rapeseed. Yeah, I'm happy with rapeseed. I've got sunflower. No, definitely not. But also what works is margarine. Oh, yeah. Margarine is better than sunflower oil. Yes. One tablespoon of white wine vinegar. White wine. I've got balsamic. Definitely not. Water? Yes, that will be fine. Anything with any kind of astringency. Are you going to put water? Squeeze a lemon juice will work fine as well. Oh, yeah? Bit of turps. Turps, like paint? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

29:43Keyzie:Well, you're only using a small quantity, so it's fine. Salt and black pepper, obviously. But if you don't have that, your paprika, your cayenne pepper, your dried chilies, curry powder at a stretch.

29:57Mike Minogue:What about cumin? Definitely not.

30:01Keyzie:250 grams of good quality ricotta. That's cheese, eh? Yeah. Well, it's a moist cheese. Yeah, it's a cheese. That's true. Yeah, yeah. What if you don't have that? Look, your Colby. You're tasty You're hard What about those little, you remember those Chesdale triangles that you used to get in your lunchbox? Perfect, Moggy

30:26Mike Minogue:What about like a cream cheese, it's the same consistency Definitely not, Keezy The Hauraki Big Show With Jase, Mike and Keezy Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki

30:36Keyzie:AZDC there on the Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday evening, now listen up New Zealand Plenty going on after 6 o 'clock We give out some advice on Meat Paddy Nip 69. And I've got to say, the fellas, and particularly Mogey, it would seem, we're really under the gun on the sleep front. I'm struggling. And we need to sort it out. I'm suffering.

30:57Mike Minogue:Yeah, Mogey's tried a new method. Well, the problem with the method, it's for the circadian rhythm. Yeah, yeah. Have you heard of a cicada? Oh, yeah, like the bug. So you're imitating a cicada. Right. Which sounds like nonsense, doesn't it? They go underground for, like, years. Yeah, they do. And it's exhausting. You're absolutely right. And I don't think that's the way for me because I've got a lot on. Did you try doing that last night? So I did a little bit of it last night. Apparently it's going to take two weeks to reset it. Right, okay.

31:24Keyzie:And it's that just rubbing your legs together constantly, just exhausting. It's part of it.

31:30Mike Minogue:It's part of it. Yeah, yeah. We'll get into that after six. 100%. Also after six, we've got some Emerson's hoodies to dish out. We just need you to name our Emerson's beer ahead of the Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival. Give us a text now on 3483. It's Tropical Hazy Pale Ale.

31:43Keyzie:It just needs a name. Can I just say, those bloody sweatshirts are the bomb. I wore mine last night at home. Cozy as feels.

31:51Mike Minogue:3483, name our beer. The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hodaki.

32:01Keyzie:It is The Big Show and it's brought to you by Reburg Gear.

32:04Mike Minogue:Handcrafted burgers, loaded fries and gourmet eats that'll change the goods.

32:12Mike Minogue:Any last words? Uh, yeah, well, actually, now that you mention it, well, you should probably know. Actually, all of you probably should. Um, Reeper Girl is crave-worthy, handcrafted, and that's all street food. So, yeah, yeah. What? What's that from? I don't know. It's from some sort of movie.

32:45Keyzie:No, it's an original, I think. Yeah, it feels original to me.

32:48Mike Minogue:It felt like it had Robocopy vibes. Or what's the one where Harrison Ford is in that side? Fugitive. No, Cybery. Blade Runner. No, the one with the whip. Indiana Jones. Yeah, that's the one. Temple of Doom. Yeah, that's the one. Temple of Doom. What's for dinner tonight, Mogi? Great question. Great question from you.

33:09Keyzie:Well, should the question be for you, what was your dinner last night? Well, yeah, my dinner last night was hard to explain, so maybe the question for me should be what's your dinner tonight? Yeah, okay. There's a bit of a naan. Okay. I saw some chicken buzzies. Yes. Chicken buzzies. Some sort of curry. They were in the old, yeah, one of the drawers in the fridge there. It sounded like it was going to be good. My wife and daughter were talking about it, so I'm looking forward to that when I get home there, fellas. I'll give you a bit of an update tomorrow. Yeah, good stuff, eh?

33:40Mike Minogue:On the edge of my seat. What are you going to have tonight, Keezy? Pork salad.

33:46Keyzie:Are you being serious? Yeah, pork salad. What's in that? Do you have a little bit of pork mints, a little bit of pork chop, a little bit of pork steak, a little bit of pork belly?

33:56Mike Minogue:On some lettuce. That's right. And then you grate some crackling over the top of it. That's really good. We call it a pork salad. Sounds good, man. No veggies in there, though, just pork. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, yeah. A bit of salt, a bit of extra salt on there. Yeah, 100%. You want to be able to taste it. Jason, what are you having for dinner tonight, mate? Fella's got to be honest with you. Pop, pop. Yeah, man. Can I be honest with you? Yes. That sounds delicious. Yeah, it does. Can I be honest with you? Hello. I've got a question around pork. What is the sauce that you go with when you go with a pork?

34:30You go lamb, you go mint, you go chicken, you go like a gravy, a roast beef, a roast gravy of some description. So, apple? Apple. Thank you. That's what it is.

34:40Mike Minogue:Well, ours is like a oyster sauce, lime juice, chilli, like it's a... Anything to disguise the taste of it. It's a Vietnamese sauce.

34:48Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, just drench it and sauces. Yeah, and then ketchup. And some ketchup. That's right. That's what I'm having for dinner. That sounds yum, actually. Actually, I'll tell you what, I am fond of a pork chop with a bit of, you know, stewed apple on the side. I am. See you again with the fruits. Fruits and meats. Criminal. Anyway, sounds good, Keezy.

35:06Mike Minogue:Thanks, man. Faith no more? Oh, yeah. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

35:14Keyzie:The Killers there on the Hauraki Big Show this Wednesday evening, the time's 6.15. Fellas, as you know, I've been having shocking bastard sleeps lately. Shocking bastard. Yeah. Waking up at two o 'clock in the morning, quarter to two I had the other night, awake for an hour or so, and then sort of repeating that again at 3 o 'clock, again at 4 o 'clock, again at 5 o 'clock. Shocking. Man of my age, I'm busy. I've got things to do. Yeah. You need your rest. I do need my rest because it gets to round about now, and I'm buggered, fellas, buggered.

35:45Mike Minogue:I can't tell, though, man. You're full of life, man. I'm full of zest, eh? Yeah. Zesty, boy. Can you imagine me if I had a proper night's sleep? I'd be unbearable. Yeah, it'd be pretty intense.

35:56Keyzie:It would be massively unbearable. So I've been doing some research into it there, fellas, and I've got this plan that I've pulled together there. Now, what it says is you've got to set your wake-up time every day. That's your anchor. You've got to have your time that you wake up, 6 a.m. Yeah. I said to the guy, I said, are you listening, man? I'm awake at 2. What do you mean set your alarm for 6? I've been up for 4 hours. Yes. He said what you've got to do no matter what. you've got to stay in bed until 6. So even if you're awake, you stay in bed. You teach your body that you don't get up until 6.

36:35So that's part of the treatment there. The other thing is you've got to get outside and get into the light immediately. As soon as you get up, you go outside. I was like, mate, are you looking around, man? It's dark out there. Also, what if it's raining? It could be raining. You want me to get wet in it? But he says as soon as you can get some natural light on you, get outside there, and that will help your body learn as well.

36:54Mike Minogue:Oh, because it's like dark inside, time to sleep. Day, sun's out, time to wake up. No, he didn't mention that. But it is weird, isn't it? Because you think your body would know. Yes, totally. I mean, what kind of an idiot body have I got? Idiot. Dirt brain body. And then the other thing was to push my sleep late. So I tried this last night. I went to bed at 10 o 'clock. Wow. That's an hour for me. The night before I was in bed at 8.40. Yes. Yeah, yeah. And I was asleep immediately. Yeah. But that's because my sleep the night before had been so bad. But anyway, as a result, last night I slept until around about 4.30.

37:36Not bad. Okay. Not bad. Now that's a start, isn't it? Yes. Now I can tell you it was painful staying up until 10. I was over it. Yeah. Watching garbage TV, all sorts of things. Oh. So I don't know. I'm going to have to come up with some kind of a hobby in the evenings, I think, if I'm going to be staying up that late. I mean, what do people do until those hours?

37:54Keyzie:Well, why don't you get back to your train set? Your model trains, Mogi. That's pretty relaxed. I used to love that. The problem with that, Jase, is I stay on those bastards. I'm not going to be until 3-4-8. Yeah, fair. Fair true. Adrenaline rush, isn't it?

38:06Mike Minogue:Well, why don't we tomorrow on the show, we'll get people to text through potential hobbies that they do in the evening. Yes. And feel free to get the text coming in now on 3483, every text in the drawer for a$50 reburg about you. My one here says, why don't you have a lovely conversation with your wife? Yeah.

38:26Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. I think I'll have myself a beer. The Radio Hauraki Big Show. Name our beer.

38:43Keyzie:Dish, dish, dish. Dish, dish. Beat, man, that's one from the old Yummy Boys there. Pugs aren't wrote this track. Listen to that. Did he make this track? Listen to that, boys. Yeah. Once again, now.

38:58Mike Minogue:Hey, fellas. Yeah, yeah. Emerson's. They're running a new promo. It's called Name Our Beer. Yeah. Yeah. Nah, but seriously, though, the 2026 Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival is happening again. In November, Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th at Forsyth Bar Stadium, they are making a special beer to celebrate the big show. It's a tropical, hazy pale ale. It needs a name. Text a name through on 3483. Boom. You might get an Emerson's hoodie because we've got a whole heap of them to give away.

39:30Keyzie:Yeah, and I tell you, genuinely, good hoodies. Good hoodies. Good hoodies. I like me a good hoodie.

39:34Mike Minogue:Should we go to the line first, actually?

39:37Keyzie:Yeah, let's do it. G'day, Cody, you mad bastard. How's life?

39:40Mike Minogue:Jason Hoy, Mike Minogin.

39:42Keyzie:Get it, you mad bastards. How you going? Yeah, good. Thanks, Cody. What's up, man? You finished work for the day. You're all fired up. That's the one. I'm off to get a pizza to celebrate at the end of the day. Yeah, good on you, Cody. Good on you. You got a name for us there, have you, Cody?

39:57Mike Minogue:I do. It's Mike Minogin's fight, actually.

40:01Keyzie:Yeah, go on, man.

40:02Mike Minogue:Lay it on us. Oh, what is it? Hang on. Oh, hang on. I've got to find it again. Sorry, I texted it through yesterday. That's all good, man. You find it, man. Oh, hang on. Right. Pretty hazy, you mad hops, you sick son of a bear. That's the one. Wait, wait, wait. So say that again. No wonder. Pretty hazy, you mad hops, you sick son of a bear. No wonder you couldn't remember it. Yeah, yeah. That's bloody good. That's very good, Cody. You've got yourself an Emerson's hoodie, brother. Oh, that's grassy. That's awesome. Good on you, mate. Thanks for listening, brother. You hold the line there. The pugs will sort you out.

40:39Mike Minogue:Heaps of texts on 3483 as well. He's a high-energy son of a bee, isn't he? Isn't he? God, imagine working with him. It'd be great. Old Mogey's mud puddle. What? This can't be the whole break. No, no, I'm trying to wrap my head around it, Keezy. What does that mean? Old Mogey's mud puddle. Mud puddle. I don't know. You tell me, Old Mogey. I don't know what I've been up to there. I've been a shocking buzzer.

41:02Keyzie:It's gone way over my head, Keezy.

41:04Mike Minogue:Most things do. We've had three honkers hazy Fellas that was one This one is three massive honkers hazy Oh yeah that could be for like the tall boys Yeah 100 % I do like the three honkers hazy Grouse old hazy Grouse Old hazy

41:25Keyzie:I'm noticing there That Moggy's not saying anything Because he was going to diss it And you get really upset Well look I'm not allowed to Freely express my opinions on this show otherwise I get Keezy telling me off. And it's not my fault that they're shockers by and large. And that's the thing, man. You have to get through the shockers to get to the gold Keezy. Totally. But if you're not going to call a spade a spade, then we're going to be in a whole bunch of – everybody doesn't get a medal. Can I put it to you that way? Yeah. Not everyone can be a winner, Keezy.

41:55Mike Minogue:I was raised to believe that everyone's a winner. That's the truth. Pugsans, Wheeze. Inglebert Humperjiz Long snout In brackets Is it Ingle Bear at least? Nah They missed a trick there Hazy on all fours Looking over as Nah just Hazy on all fours We've got here Jizzy IPA Three Ma Which stands for three men and an ale Snoggans Keezy's Fermented Lament Someone's texting there What's that say? You see, that's smart That is smart Yeah, but I don't know if they'll get behind it Wheat Dream Wheat Dream A Wheat Dream Because there was a wet dream the other day Remember that?

42:53You guys were frothing it

42:54Mike Minogue:I wasn't frothing any wet dream, Moggy Yeah, well, look, that's enough for today Text through 3483-GESELF-IN-THE-DRAW-4-A. It's not easy, is it? In Emerson's hoodie. It's not easy. It's not easy, and that's the thing about it is, you know, when we've got a prize like this on the line, it's only going to be the best one that's going to, you know, that's going to take out the prize. Well, we've got a few prizes, actually. We've got heaps. We've got dozens of them, to be fair. Don't forget, if you want to go to the Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival, over 75 beer, food, and beverage vendors, Shapeshifter are playing Troy Kingy, Reb Fountain Park Road as well.

43:24Mike Minogue:DunedinBearFest.co.nz. Great stuff.

43:31Mike Minogue:The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hodaki.

43:37Keyzie:Lenny Kravitz there on the Hodaki Big Show this Wednesday evening. Fellas, let's give out some much needed advice.

43:45Mike Minogue:Be pretty nips 69 at gmail.com. Get in touch with the fellas. With the fellows. Definitely do get in touch. It's a real email address. We monitor it daily and send out prizes to those who get their advice questions read out on the show. This one comes from Anonymous, fellas. G'day Tony, Old Mogus and JizzBot. I would love some advice from you backbones. I am a teenager and have started sprouting red warts and pimples across my face. Oh no. Despite scrubbing hard and using face wash, the bastards keep coming back. would especially love old Pepperoni Face Tony as he was called in high school for his advice.

44:29Mike Minogue:Backbone, backbone, backbone, douche, douche, douche. Thanks, fellas. Backbone.

44:34Keyzie:Absolute plague of my life. I had... Well, that's the thing. I didn't have this. You did. I had horrendous acne. Like, I had to go and see a skin specialist. What sort of nicknames would they hit you with, Jess? Pizza Face is obviously the obvious one. Yeah, I mean, I think it was so bad, actually, Mogi. People left you alone? People left me alone because they realized, God, he's so hideous. It's a tough time. It's really tough. Now, here's a tip, though. I used to wash my face all the time when that was going on because if I had a clean face, then I wouldn't get so many pimples. But that's the worst thing you can do.

45:18Keyzie:because what happens is because you're stripping your face of oils all the time, your skin naturally starts creating more oil, which leads to the acne, and you start sprouting all over the shop. So I was doing the complete opposite of what I should have been doing.

45:40Mike Minogue:So just leave it.

45:41Keyzie:Well, just wash moderately as you normally do. Don't overdo it. Whereas I was doing my face seriously seven or eight times a day. Yeah, well, you're in a panic, aren't you? You just want it to go away. You are. And the irony there, Jase, is that you are making it worse. Yes. You're more hideous. Yes. For more days. I used to, I remember very clearly, I don't know if you, you'll probably remember this, Moggy, the old Topex ads. For me, it was more the Claracil. Oh, Claracil. God, they look so happy in those ads, Keezy. Oh, they do. But it used to come on in my house, right? Or at school, and the Topex ads.

46:13Keyzie:And I could see everyone just doing it. Did you go red? I went red. Because you can think to yourself, oh, everyone's going to be thinking about me. Thank you. And they give you a bit of a side eye. You know what I mean?

46:24Mike Minogue:When did it go away?

46:26Keyzie:Oh, for me, not for a long – oh, no, by the time I was sort of 20, 21, it started to settle down. Right, into your 20s. Into your 20s, yeah. She's a long time. And I guess we're talking about this seriously now, so we'll just keep along in that vein. Honestly, if this is what – does this feel like it was serious? I can't remember now. Yeah, 100%. Well, if it is serious, then go to a doctor. Yeah. Because they can prescribe all sorts of great drugs. Great drugs. Yes. That will sort this out. I was on vitamins, antibiotics, and this horrendous paste that basically burnt your face off. Yeah, yeah.

47:08Keyzie:Not good. I think it's obviously advanced from there, I would hope. Yeah. Does he say what?

47:14Mike Minogue:No, he just says, oh, red warts and pimples. He means pimples. Yeah, yeah. Or warts. Warts. Warts are tricky. Yes. Warts are tricky ones. You need to get that burn off of the dry ice, Keezy. Yeah. You can just get that from any chemist. Dry ice. You can just self-administer and you can get rid of your warts wherever they may be. Yeah. Because you had some Keezy, didn't you? What's that mean? You had a shocking case of it. Yeah, except for they were on my genitals, fellas. Backbone. backbone. The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

47:59Keyzie:Well, there you go, you mad bastards. That's the big show done and dusted for your hump day. In the podcast outro, now known as the disclaimer, we had quite a good chat about a number of things. But what's the clip today, Keezy?

48:13Mike Minogue:Today's clip is about travelling, feelers. There's all these ways that we're streamlining in our lives. You're just you on your own every step of the way. Yes. Except for your wife, and it f***ing rules. It's so good, man. I don't want to talk to anyone. Yeah. Well, I mean, you know. That's why I'm going to Japan. It's just vending machines. You can put your money in. Well, just so I bet. There you go. And then a small hatch opens and ramen comes out.

48:39Keyzie:And then you go back to your 10 square litre apartment. That's right. Yeah, great stuff. Travel chat. Travel chat with the fellas. Mogi, your plans for the evening, please. Thinking about a sauna, I've got a really sore neck. Oh, yeah. A sore neck. Sore neck. Need a bit of a rub down. Not a rub down, a sauna.

48:59Mike Minogue:Not giving you another one, not after last night. Yeah, I know, sorry about that, man. So, yeah, a little bit of a sauna and then go home and watch a little bit of Tally. Yeah, nice. You know? Yeah, yeah. Or maybe have a bath. What are you up to? Are you busy or are you...?

49:11Keyzie:Oh, me? Yep. Oh, let's get to Keezy first. No, you can go, man. That's all gee. Well, I'll be honest with you fellas, I am hot potting tonight. Oh. I'm meeting my wife. They've dried up though, haven't they? Well, I was saying to Keezy last night, actually, I've just got to back off a little bit. I'm getting too carried away here. Yeah. Otherwise, I'll get over it very quickly, and I don't want to get over it. But you're normally full bore. Yes. And the fact that I know you're getting over it is because you're coming to your senses. Yeah, yeah. That's not like you when you're in deep addiction.

49:41Yeah, no, that's fair.

49:43Keyzie:What are you up to, Keezy? Oh, what's for tea with you? We already talked about this. Oh, yeah, that's right. Sorry, I forgot.

49:50Mike Minogue:Pork salad, remember? I'm going to go home and have that. Yeah. And then my wife and I will probably watch some sort of low-quality television. She'll go to bed. I'll probably play PlayStation for a bit. Have a glass of... I'm trying to finish off Pugs. Brought some nice red wine around to my place. I'm trying to finish that off. Have a glass of that and then go to bed as well.

50:09Keyzie:Good on you, mate. What do you mean trying to finish it off?

50:11Mike Minogue:Well, I don't usually drink a glass of red every night, and I am at the moment. Why don't you drink a bottle? Because I need to be in tip-top shape for the big show. Oh, yes.

50:22Keyzie:Yeah, yeah. It's good stuff. Hey, check out the Instagram. Check out the podcast. Till tomorrow, you mad bastard. See you later. Bye.

50:40Thank you.
