The Hodaki/ Hauraki Big Show’s year-end episode with studio banter, Reburger promotions (including a “Reburger Sting” voice-mimic game), Christmas-tree timing debate, TV/film recommendations, New Year’s resolutions (quitting smoking/vaping, fitness, reading, travel), and “Top Fives” for food in 2025.
Guests
No external guests. Regular hosts are Jason Hoyte, Mike Minogue, and Keyzie (Keezy/Mogi/Pug-san). Hoity Jizzbot is off on holidays; tomorrow’s breakfast/drive coverage is discussed.

Diddy documentary episode directly accuses Diddy of involvement in Tupac and Biggie deaths, with interviews from credible gang figures. Christmas trees: men “can’t be arsed,” and buying timing is debated (some get it Dec 1; others two weeks before).
Notable examples
Reburger Sting callers mimic “Yum”/stings to win $100 vouchers; ragwort used as a Christmas tree; “Welcome to Derry” is a Pennywise origin prequel; New Year’s resolutions include quitting cigarettes, reading 5 books, running 8Ks, and booking an international trip. Food Top Fives feature desiccated chicken, spicy noodle joints, dumplings with spicy-sour sauce, and coconut chickpea curry.

This is the biggest, biggest, biggest, biggest, this is the biggest, our biggest show. The Hodaki Big Show. With Jason Hoyte, Mike Minogue and Keyzie.
0:20Mike Minogue:That's right, it is the Hodaki Big Show for Thursday the 18th of December 2025. And you as always listening to The Big Show, which is brought to you, of course, by Reburger.
0:30Jason Hoyte:Crave-worthy street food, freshly made, with Re-Burger. Yum! Yum. Yum. G'day, fellas. How are ya?
0:37Mike Minogue:Going really good, thanks, Pug-san. It is a lovely day, a really, really, really exciting day for me, because it's my last day in studio for 2025, and just saying that out loud makes me equal parts sad, but equal parts excited. Mogi, how are you feeling today? I'm feeling absolutely full of beans. It's a weird thing as you get closer and closer to the end of the year, You think things will taper off, but it's the same amount of work, but with less time to do it. So it has been a hell of a day tomorrow, but I can see on the horizon the end is nigh. And for us, Pug's a little bit different. We've got today, but we've also got breakfast and we've also got drive tomorrow.
1:16Yeah, we do, man. But it's been a hell of a year, a hell of a week, and looking forward to cracking in. Pug-san, how you doing? G'day, fellas.
1:23Jason Hoyte:Big fella. Come on, Keezy, man. I've been working. I'm feeling good man I'm feeling good I'm grateful to be here with you fellas obviously it is your last day and look as Moggy said it seems like the work doesn't diminish as the year comes to an end it tends to pick up as you have less time to do it but you know what matters is that we're here right now in the studio the last I guess well I mean the last official big show was when Jizzbolt was still here but you know you got us and then we're just going to slowly taper off more and more talent as the show goes on Just a note on Hoity J there. He's obviously got this week off.
1:58He is on holidays, God bless him. But he will be back next year, at least we think he will.
2:05Mike Minogue:That would be great. I mean, from what I heard, he was definitely back next year. That's what I'm saying. I'm not saying that I've heard any different, but I'm just saying as far as we know, he's coming back next year. Right, okay. Which is 100 % accurate. It's just when you say as far as we know, that just makes me question it. Well, this is the thing. I mean, as far as I know, he's back next year. Yeah. Well, actually, just on that, as far as I know, I'm pretty sure Pugs is back next year. As far as I know, you're back next year, Keezy. Oh, yeah, well. Yeah, see, as far as I know. Up next is a massive show meeting, by the way.
2:34Mike Minogue:It's a biggie. What are we going into here, Pugs-san?
2:36Jason Hoyte:Oh, right now, Keezy, we're going into Alice in Chains. You want to hear some of that?
2:40Mike Minogue:Yeah, sure, man. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. It is the Black Keys on the Hauraki Big Show. Thursday afternoon with Keezy, Mogi and Pugs-san. And fellas, if you don't mind, we've got to call a show meeting.
2:55Jason Hoyte:Show meeting. Show meeting. Show me the meeting. Show meeting is now in progress.
3:04Mike Minogue:Show meeting. Of course, this is the Hodaki Big Show, four to seven weekdays, Radio Hodaki, is it not? It is. Yeah, 100%. Well, as far as I'm aware. Cool, just want to tick that off my list. The Big Show featuring Pugsan, obviously, and also Hoity J, Moggy and Keezy. Yes. No Hoity J this week. tomorrow no Keezy or Hoity J which means you guys are covering breakfast because we lost a bet then covering drive big day for you we being the operative word there the reason I'm calling a show meeting is because I've had a chat with my partner I explained to her how I've got the day off and it's great and I'm probably going to play golf maybe eat some takeaways play Playstation start packing for the Christmas period and she explained to me that I should probably come in tomorrow morning and do breakfast right what's her thinking there?
3:59Mike Minogue:and so I'm now coming in tomorrow morning to do breakfast actually 100 % what? Keezy? what's her thinking there? her thinking was far out Pugs aren't going to have a lot on his plate right because Pugs you've got to you know obviously you're running the decks and stuff but you're also you're going to produce and doing all the behind the scenes stuff and I was like you know what you're right look Keezy And to be lumped, because you all then have to pick up my part of the role, which is a huge part of the big show, wouldn't you say? Oh. Yeah. And she was right. She's like, don't be mean to Pugsan, basically.
4:33Jason Hoyte:You know what? Listen, let me just say how grateful I am for your wife, Kesey, in this scenario, because she's looking out for me like nobody else around here, and I really appreciate that. You know what I mean? That's true. She's always looking out for Pugs. She's got Pugs top of mind.
4:46Mike Minogue:Well, she said, you know, her exact words were, You know how Pugs is. We've got to look after him.
4:52Jason Hoyte:Right, like I'm a sick dog. No, I don't know how she meant it, but that's what she said. Look, man, I'm very grateful that you want to come back in, but you're actually all G. Leave it to old Mogia, man. We got it down, brother. Well, yeah, I mean, look, from our point of view, we feel like we can do it. Well, we've been having meetings all week about it. Absolutely we have. But what we have sort of found is that nobody else believes in us. So our boss has come in and he's gone, Look, you guys, you're going to be all right. He's like, what? Get a lot of guests. Make sure you get a lot of people on the phone.
5:25Yeah. He's in Australia now. He was flying over to Australia this morning, and from all accounts, he was in an absolute panic. He's landed over there. He's off his head boozed because he's so stressed about how we're going to do the show. Now, Kesey, to his credit, he's not worried about us, but his wife is worried about us. Worried about me. You specifically. Mainly me. And the whole show. Yeah, yeah. So that's a nice thing. I mean, I think it'll be a nice way to finish the year as a team, Keezy. Three quarters of a team, obviously, because we won't have Hoody Jizzbot. Yeah. So, look, by all means.
5:58Mike Minogue:So, look, what I'm saying is, and I mean, it's not like I'm not asking for like a round of applause. Have you got the sound effect there, folks? What's that? Yeah, I can see it, but if you don't want it, I'm going to do it. Well, it's too late now, anyway. Oh, okay, yeah. Because at the end of the day, it is my job. At the end of the day, I lost a bet. So, I will come in tomorrow morning. I will help you do breakfast. however I won't be doing the drive show because because I've taken a day's annual leave you're getting applause for that but literally I was explaining it to my wife and she's like right but you're still going to go and do brekkie right and I was like well no well this is the thing and we sort of talk about this a little bit off air Keezy it's a little bit different because Jace is already out but you have to you've lost a bet and so those guys are going to just absolutely drag you and Jace next year but the thing is It's once again giving those guys on breakfast the upper hand, the moral high ground as well.
6:50Not only are they better at golf twice in one year and also better runners than us, they're also going to take a moral high ground.
6:56Mike Minogue:The thing is, with the breakfast show, I've learned is they're going to drag us no matter what we do. 100%. They find ways to drag us that I had never even thought of. Yes. And so that's not really something I can control or even stop. I could show up and do breakfast all next week as well and they'd probably still drag me for something. No, they would. I have a question. Hello?
7:14Jason Hoyte:Does it still count as leave if you're doing breakfast?
7:17Mike Minogue:I'm taking the drive show off. Okay, then I suppose it does. So tomorrow afternoon I won't be here.
7:21Jason Hoyte:Yeah. I feel like it's a half a day. I feel like they still owe you a half a day.
7:26Mike Minogue:All right, well, I'll tell you what. Did you say Toddy's steamed in Aussie right now? I might give him a ring and tell him he owes me a half day for next year. I think so. Perfect. God. Hey, have you got any Linkin Park pugs? It would really cheer me up.
7:39Jason Hoyte:The Horaki Beat Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
7:45Mike Minogue:It is Pill Jam on the Hodaki Big Show. 4.25 this Thursday afternoon with Keezy Mogey and Pugsan. And if you would like to win for yourself a$100 Reburger voucher, give us a call right now on 0800 Hodaki because it's time for the big Reburger Re-gift.
8:03Mike Minogue:If you don't know how this works, you basically call us on 0800 Hodaki. Pugsan then plays a Reburger Sting. Pugs, do you have an example of a Reburger Sting for us, man? Just a real quick one. Do I? Yum. Perfect. We play a Sting. You then just have to mimic that as best you can. We want you to do weird stuff with your voice. Yes.
8:23Jason Hoyte:As accurate as possible if you could. As accurate as possible.
8:26Mike Minogue:And if you do a good job, boom,$100 worth of Reburger, all yours. That's enough to have a hell of a feed for like six people, I reckon. More. All one Pugs. All one Pugs. All right, let's go to the phone lines there. and start giving out some Reburger. G'day, Steve. How you going, man?
8:46Jason Hoyte:Yeah, good. Thanks, boys. How are you?
8:47Mike Minogue:Yeah, not too bad, Steve, man. Hey, what do you do for a crust, brother? I'm a chippy, brother. Ah, chippy, brother. And you're a backbone, brother. How's Christchurch today, man?
8:58Jason Hoyte:Not bad. She's a little bit overcast. She's a nice warm and muggy, you know?
9:02Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah. That's a good job. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Bloody ripper. I'm going to be down there soon, so hopefully she's nice with her. All right, Steve. Pugs is going to play a little Reburger sting, mate. You just have to copy it, and then the$100 worth of Reeburger is all yours. Take it away, Pugs. Reeburger. Go, Steve. Reeburger. That'll do. Very hard to mimic. Very good. James Earl Jones there. Very, very hard to do. Congrats, Steve. $100 worth of Reeburger coming your way, brother. Thanks, James. No worries, mate. All right, let's go to the lines. G'day, Mark. How are you going? Yeah, not bad. How are you?
9:38Mike Minogue:Yeah, good. Thanks, Mark. Mark, are you excited for Christmas, man? Oh, yeah, yeah. I'm over the year. Just want to get it over and done with us. Yeah, that's the spirit, brother. Yeah, that's the spirit, Mark. Tell you what, man, how good's life, Mark? Busy, busy. Yeah. What are you busy doing, Mark? What do you do for a crust? Work for a printing company, so we're flat out at the moment. Yeah, flat tech, man. People are printing all sorts at the moment. Good on you, you backbone. All right, Mark, Pugs is going to play you a Reburger sting. You just have to mimic it, and$100 worth of Reburger is all yours.
10:08Mike Minogue:Take it away. Okay. Yum. Mark? Yum.
10:15Jason Hoyte:Nah. Sorry, we're going to have to redo that. I think we're going to have to run that again. I'll play it again for you.
10:18Mike Minogue:Yeah, and you're not saying yum. I believe he's saying yum. If you just listen closely, Mark, okay?
10:22Jason Hoyte:Turn your radio up or turn your phone up. Here we go. Okay. Yum. Yum. Yeah, that's perfect. A little more echo would have been nice, Mark. Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.
10:36Mike Minogue:Screw it. That'll do. That'll do, Mark. You got yourself$100 worth of Reeburger, man. Thank you. No worries, man. You have a great Christmas. Hopefully the old printing business slows down a wee bit. Let's go to Kieran from Christchurch. How are you going, man? Yeah, good, Keezy. Yourself, Vlad? Yeah, bloody good, mate. Bloody good. Are you excited for Christmas, Kieran? Yeah, I always look forward to Christmas. Time with me girls. Yeah, nice. That's so nice, brother. How many girlfriends have you got? Plenty. Yeah, good on you, Kieran. He's a shocking bastard. Shocking bastard. So I'd take after him.

11:13Mike Minogue:What do you do for a crust, man?
11:14Jason Hoyte:Work for a joinery company.
11:16Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah. Dells and that. All right, Kieran, all you have to do is copy Pugs' Sting and you get 50 bucks, mate. Here you go. Here we go.
11:31Good luck. Jeez. Put the challenge up. Woo.
11:44Mike Minogue:Yeah, Karen, you nailed it, brother. It was like you played it twice, man. That was awesome, Karen. Well done. Hey, no worries. Yeah, it was awesome. Good on you, mate. Enjoy the time with your girls. Enjoy the Reburger, brother. Yeah,$100. I said$50. It's actually$100, Karen. You have a bloody good Christmas, mate. Hold the line there. I love how he didn't even say Reburger. He just went... Big fan of the show. Well, he knew you. He knew me. He listens to it, obviously. but the Reeburger brandy that just hasn't got through to him. And it was one of those ones and I know you're a stickler for this, Pugs.
12:12Yeah. But it was so bad, I think we all agreed subconsciously there's no point getting him to do it again.
12:19Jason Hoyte:Yeah, yeah, yeah. I agree with you. That was a really hard vox pop to get because I was in the theatre. Yeah. And I had security already on my arse because I didn't like it. Yeah, sure. And so I think that's why it wasn't so clear in The Sting.
12:32Mike Minogue:That's all right.
12:32Jason Hoyte:It's very good stuff.
12:33Mike Minogue:It's not his fault. and he now gets to eat a hundred bucks worth of re-burger which is bloody awesome hey fellas coming up next on the Horaki Big Show a best of the Big Show moment how good
12:43Jason Hoyte:the Horaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Horaki
12:50Mike Minogue:it is Radiohead on the Horaki Big Show Thursday afternoon with Keezy, Mogi and old Pugsan and Pugs has gone deep into his stocking and pulled out a lovely audio gift for the entirety of Aotearoa you were saying Pugs
13:03Jason Hoyte:An audible lump of coal, Casey.
13:05Mike Minogue:Oh, it's a lump of coal. Yeah. You were telling me it was an amazing gift for everyone's ears.
13:09Jason Hoyte:Is that not an amazing gift? That could power a train, brother. One piece of coal. It's a very small train, Pugs. As an expert on trains, I can tell you that's not powering much.
13:17Mike Minogue:No, and he's actually an expert on miniature model trains. And miniature horses. And miniature horses as well. Probably barely enough to power one of those as well. No, I'd agree with that. But if it was compressed tightly enough, Pugs, it would become a diamond.
13:31Jason Hoyte:Which I think I've compressed the audio here enough for it to be a diamond. You know what I'm saying? Is this a best bit? Yeah. We're talking Christmas trees. When to purchase said Christmas tree. That's right. We asked people to text through on 3483. What's going on, Minogue? Boys haven't even thought about Christmas yet. God knows when I'm putting up my tree. Waste of space, in my opinion. Cheers, Tim Brown. Just on that front. Am I out of place here by saying, generally speaking, the male members of the world really can't be arsed with Christmas. I think there's something to that. They're only genuinely interested in the piss-up.
14:08Oh! And they're drinking the booze. I think there's some truth in that. Yeah, yeah. To be honest with you,
14:13Jason Hoyte:the thing I love most about Christmas is stuffing my face.
14:16Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah. Well, you do that every day at work anyway with all the snacks. Great text here. I get my Christmas tree on the 26th on sale and then get rid of it on the 27th. That's a good idea. Yeah, very good idea. That's Christmas-spirity. I like that. Yeah, totally. And you miss Christmas Day, you know? Yeah, exactly. Hey, guys, I use ragwort. Yeah, nice. I use ragwort as my Christmas tree. Use what? Ragwort. It's a weed. It's got nice yellow flowers. It is very pretty. Then when done with it, I biff it over the neighbour's fence every year, and now his two-acre block is full of them. Easy picking until next year.
14:49Mate. You see what I'm saying, man?
14:51Jason Hoyte:Yeah, that is so good, because I don't know how many literally hours and days I've spent picking ragwort. Ragwort. She spreads like an absolute bastard. It's like Didymo of the land. Yes. Rock snot. So I think the general consensus here that I'm getting from 3483 is that, Keezy, you are way over the top. What? Because I get mine December 1. And way too anal and way too controlling getting your Christmas tree on the 1st of December. Well, that's right. This one here from Sydney says, we get our real tree two weeks before Christmas any sooner than that, and it would reek and be dead before Christmas Day.
15:28Yeah, yeah. And I agree with that, yeah.
15:30Mike Minogue:It's just because they don't know how to look after their Christmas tree. How do you look after a Christmas tree? I don't know. You get the fiancé to do it. She's the one. Because she's the one that insists on getting a Christmas tree every year. And so she has to look after it. It's just a sexist nature of the way you do it. No, it's just genuinely... It really grinds my goat. It's genuinely... Yeah, I totally, mate. Totally. It really gets in my goat. It's not the same. Every year I say, I don't want a Christmas tree. But if you want one, that's fine. But you have to look after it. Because I pay me out.
15:57Say it like that, Keezy. You say it like, I don't even want a Christmas tree. Huh, huh. Or if you want one, you get it. Yeah, I do say it like that. But if you want one, you can look after it then. What a weird face that was. That's what you said about having a kid as well.
16:13Mike Minogue:Exactly. You're also saying off air there, Keezy. What?
16:20Jason Hoyte:What else did I say off air? That you bought your lovely fiancé some Christmas jammies. Oh, yeah. And she's only allowed to wear those in December. In December, yeah.
16:31Mike Minogue:When it's sexy time once a week. I didn't say that part, but that is true. I bought her some as a Christmas gift a few years back, special Christmas jammies with little Christmas trees and stuff on them, and she can only wear them in December. Is that a Keezy dictator? That is a rule I made when I bought them. It makes them more special. Are all these rules written down? Yeah, of course. How would we remember them otherwise?
16:53Jason Hoyte:Jeez, Keezy.
16:55Mike Minogue:Can I just say my wife actually loves her Christmas jammies And she loves the fact that she only wears them once a year
17:00Jason Hoyte:Yeah man Can I ask what they Is there a pattern on them?
17:04Mike Minogue:Gingerbread men Little dogs wearing Santa hats And Christmas trees Are they red? They are dark blue And they're button up and they're little shorts
17:14Jason Hoyte:Is that all one set? Is that all one set? Or are they three separate sets with those particular items on them? There's one matching set Pugsan
17:23Mike Minogue:and it comes with a hat a little Christmas hat
17:26Jason Hoyte:a pyjama hat
17:27Mike Minogue:pyjama hat which is one of the sort of Santa style with a really long thing with a bobble on the end of it they should wear that to sleep as well that's right and it also has a cape and some really high Christmas boots with buckles on them like Santa that's right and I wear a gimp mask is this Tom Petty? I might get some of those The Hauraki Big Show weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki a little bit of Tom Petty there on the Hauraki Big Show Thursday afternoon with Keezy Mogey and old Pug San. Let's talk television. What's on the telly with Mike Minogue. Yeah.
18:10Remember when we used to harmonise Pugs?
18:12Jason Hoyte:Yeah, I miss it. Those days are gone, eh? Those days are gone. Fellas, last night I watched possibly the second episode of the new Puff Daddy documentary, P. Diddy, as I like to call them, made by 50 Cent. Yes. And this one, oh, 50 there. He is not pulling any punches whatsoever. He is directly accusing Puff of being responsible for the murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.
18:40Mike Minogue:Didn't he also say that he made the Notorious B.I.G. pay for his own funeral or something? He did, he did. So what he did was, and I've got to tell you, Last night I was like, I'll just watch another, I'll watch 10 minutes of something just before I go to bed. Yes. And I ended up watching a whole episode. It is absolutely fascinating. So what he did was to make it all about himself, old P Diddy there, because you learn a lot about his personality and that's what he's all about is making everything about himself. So when Biggie dies, he goes into the press and says, we are going to throw the biggest funeral that New York has ever seen.
19:16So they do that. and he starts seeing how much it's going to cost him.
19:21Mike Minogue:Right. And so he makes it a recoupable cost, which gets charged against the sales of Biggie's record sales. And also tries to get the guy that works for him to, Biggie had just signed a new contract, so he tried to get this guy that worked for him to go in and change all the details of the contract, so not the pages that were signed, just things that didn't have a signature on it. So it would be more in favour of bad boy entertainment, and that way his wife and mother wouldn't know anything about it. So he is a real... Scumbag. It's unbelievable. And the people that they're talking to are the leaders of the Crips who protected Puff Daddy at the time.
20:06Right. Gang members, people that worked for him, ex-girl, all of these sorts of people that were right in the middle of it. So they sort of carry a fair amount of credibility.
20:16Mike Minogue:So that's the thing, right? because I'm hearing a lot. I'm seeing memes about 50 Cent getting interviewed smirking and stuff. He's loving it. And loving it. But I'm also like, is this stuff true? Yeah. Is the part... So you're saying that the people they're interviewing are pretty credible. It's really credible. I mean, you've got a guy that's the head of the crypt admitting that he killed Tupac. Because of... So they go back and they talk to this old cop who interviewed this guy. There's a guy that's going to be charged with a murder and goes up for trial in 2026. So, yeah, it's absolutely amazing.
20:49I couldn't really be bothered with it to begin with, but now watching it, it is phenomenal. And we haven't even got... He's killing people. We haven't even got to the bad shit yet. Yeah, right. This is the other thing. Do you know what I mean? This is the entree. Unreal. Holy moly. Four buzzies. In a depressing, horrible, bleak way.
21:12Jason Hoyte:Yeah, right. And that's on Netflix. Netflix. I'd like to give it a go, actually. Yeah. Very important for, I guess, the biggest part of hip-hop history, isn't it? Yes. I have been watching a TV show called It, Welcome to Derry on Neon. Now, I am a huge fan of the 2017 remake of It, starring, is it Bill? Bill Hader. Oh, yeah. As the titular character, Bill Hader in the sequel to that. Sequel, yes. It was like, it wasn't like a fantastic film or anything, but it was a cool movie. It was really well made. They have really good scares, if you like, horror, and really creative body horror and stuff like that.
21:48Jason Hoyte:Andy Machete was the director of that, and he's in charge of this as well, Welcome to Derry, which is a, I guess, a prequel as it stands at the moment to that. It's set way back in the day, maybe I'm going to guess 50s and stuff, and it's basically about the legend of it as a celestial entity, like an alien, rather than just a creepy clown. Yeah. So it delves into that, and it's got a whole bunch of great actors in it that I can't name. But I didn't love it at first. I got four episodes in and now it's starting to kick off. So I think you would probably lose patience because the episodes are like an hour long.
22:24Jason Hoyte:They're like an hour long. And so you're not going to sit through four of those and then go, holy shit, it's actually going great. But I'm loving it. So I'm loving it. I'd give it a good three buzzies. Is it the clown, an alien? Well, yeah. Right, okay. A celestial entity. It's worse than that. Oh, God. It's very convoluted. It's worse than that. It's a Stephen King creature. So in the book, Pennywise the Clown is... The Cow. Yeah, Pennywise the Cow. So Pennywise the Clown is a beast that's created by the alien. Now, when you read the book, you read this book, the book is unbelievable. And I've always said this about Stephen King.
23:00It's like he's got X amount of pieces of paper in front of him. Yes. And he writes the most amazing stories. And then he goes, Oh, I've only got two pieces of paper left.
23:08Mike Minogue:Right. Ah, what's my ending? and then in It he goes, oh, it's a giant spider. So literally in the book It, the kids track down, they go into this cave and it's a giant spider. And you're just like, well, I've just read 400 pages. That sucks. This is going good though. Yeah, I've heard very good things. So I might even give it a go. Far out. Can't believe it was a cow the whole time. The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. That's right. It is the Horaki Big Show for Thursday the 18th of December with Keezy Mogi and Pug-san. And as always, it is brought to you by Reburger. Crowberry Street Food, freshly made with Reburger.

24:30Mike Minogue:And I'm like Well we could go out for dinner She's like I've got a bit of work left to do Tonight So we could go somewhere We might have to be quick though And so I'm thinking I know what she's doing She's angling for Reburger Oh again man
24:41Jason Hoyte:You can't keep her away from that place
24:44Mike Minogue:Oh she's shocking She is a shocking bastard When it comes to Reburger And I feel like she's just with me because of my ability to get Reburger Yeah right Have you burned through all your vouchers though? 25:16Jason Hoyte:well can I say you know the thing about me and these vouchers is I just want to support the business so when I go I don't use the voucher so you guys can have mine I'd rather pay for my re-burger do you want to know
25:26Mike Minogue:do you want to know what your code is actually though Mike no you sure go on then is it bulgers 50 nah they changed it It's just buzies Oh nice Yeah yeah yeah So you just How do I spell that though? B-O-O-Z-I-E-S But you just say Buzies You say it to the person Running the counter I just whisper it? You whisper it into the air Buzies
25:48Jason Hoyte:Buzies I'm slightly worried about People trying to use your voucher And going out to Innocent Reburger Staff and shouting Buzies Sorry Whispering Buzies in their face
25:58Mike Minogue:Shit I've just told everyone In New Zealand How to get free Reburger Damn it Code word Buzies Is this the offspring? The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. She had on the Hauraki Big Show Thursday afternoon with Keezy, Mogi and Pugs. It's time for New Year's resolutions, fellas. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It's that time of year again. Normally, you know, I wouldn't really start thinking about it until about 6 a.m. on the 1st of January, 2026. but I'm already thinking about my New Year's resolutions for next year now because I think I'm really determined.
26:39Mike Minogue:Okay, can I guess what one of yours might be? Yeah. I've only really got one because everything else is so great. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, a couple. Okay. Okay, I've got a few. Okay. I reckon he's got about seven. Okay, I reckon one of yours is Give Up Darts. That's at number one.
26:57Jason Hoyte:If I recall correctly, that was one of yours from this year as well. Not this year, it was the year before. Oh, no, this year was booze. This year was going harder. This year was booze. This year was booze. Harder on the darts.
27:08Mike Minogue:Ah, I see what you're saying. Is another one of your resolutions give up booze? No. Booze. No, no, well, that might go hand in hand. But yeah, man, I'm beginning to think I'm addicted. To darts? To ciggies. You're joking. Are you sure? I'm seeing a pattern emerge where every day I smoke cigarettes. Yeah, right. That could be seen as addiction. Yes. And do you ever feel like not smoking darts? Yes. Okay. And then I smoke them. Ah, yeah. And that's, I think, the sign of the addiction. That sounds right. But I am over it. Like, I'm 49, coming on 50. I started smoking when I was probably 16. Wow. Feels like it's been long enough.
27:48Yeah. You know what I mean? I've had a good knock at it. Do I really think I'm going to be the one person, you know, that person that you're about that manages to dodge cancer and live until they're 100? Yeah. Am I that guy based on the fact that I've got bad eyes or blind eye, bad kidneys, all these other issues wrong with me? I've got bad, bad, bad DNA and genes. Feels like it's probably the time to give it up. But how am I going to do it?
28:14Mike Minogue:Well, to be honest, Mo, this is like the fifth time you've given up darts. It is. You know what I mean? On the show. Exactly. I've got a post on my Instagram of me celebrating my last cigarette. When was that? 2018. But doesn't that show you how addictive and magnificent Those little bastards are It's right in me But I'm at a point now where I'm like Man they have got to go Yeah They've got to go But I just don't know how to do it Well it's tough I mean you can talk to Hoardy J about it That's a good idea He's good at that Jump on the vape You just vape constantly I mean me and him actually gave up for a year Can you remember that?
28:51We gave up for a year and then we started again
28:53Mike Minogue:You did And I remember Because after a year he was like I have nothing fun left in my life. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't go out. All I do is sit at home eating sticky-dick puddings. So I think that's why he started vaping or whatever. I can't remember what your reason was. He had some stresses in his life. Well, I think for me was after X amount of months, I then jumped on the vape because I went back to Levin for a 40th. I was like, I've got to get on something. So I jumped on the vape, and the vape was more addictive than the smoking. And then to get off the vape. You started smoking.
29:24I got on the darts. Yeah, yeah, yeah, right. But it's got to go. 50 bucks a pack
29:28Mike Minogue:well to be honest man I as always I fully support you I fully support Hoardy J in fact my wish for him next year is that he does give up the vape because I've seen you guys do it for like a whole year it was great yes he was irritable to begin with yes but that's fun it is fun isn't it it's great content it is he's so cute when he's angry yeah he's like muttly he is so I guess any advice that we could get on 3483 about how I could possibly give up and stick with it. There's a book that you read, there's patches, Hoity J's got the gum, but he does all of those things and still consumes nicotine.
30:04Mike Minogue:Well, that's the thing. He just ends up getting more nicotine from various different places. Everyone that texted through last time, Mogey, give up, maybe copy and paste those same texts, send them through on 3483. Show a backbone. That's probably going to be number one. Yeah, show a backbone. Yeah. Oh, is this Nirvana? Have you got a resolution, Pugs? I got a few. Have you? Yeah. We'll get into that after a couple of tunes, eh? The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Take on The Hauraki Big Show. Thursday afternoon with Keezy Mogey and Pugsans. We're talking New Year's resolutions.
30:37Mike Minogue:Mogey's was to give up the darts. I'm back on them, fellas. Right, but it hasn't even hit 2026 yet. I was just thinking about it during the songs, and I was like, what kind of a loser quit smoking? You know what I mean? Yeah, right, okay. I feel like it's the sort of thing, because I'm 49 now, I'll smoke till I'm 50. Oh, okay, yeah. So just one more year and then I'll quit. Can I just say I'm really proud of you for giving up darts for that seven-minute two-song sweep there. That was great. Thanks, man. All you've got to do is just, you know. Kia kaha. Thank you. My New Year's resolution, I've been thinking about this there, feelers.
31:10Mike Minogue:I've actually got two. One of them is to stop bringing home hats. Oh. Because I keep bringing home hats. Yeah. This feels like a direct sort of. No, because Pugs gave me a hat in Secret Santa. Yeah, it was a shit. And I didn't take it home. And that was my first hat I've turned down. No, no. My wife sat me down the other day, got all of my hats out and put them on the spare bed and said, what are we doing with all these hats? I have like 50-something hats. I wear two. I wear two hats. And then I came in from Chasing the Fox the other day and I had two hats in my bag. And she's like, what are these hats?
31:45Especially one of them being for a credit card company.
31:50Mike Minogue:Well, the American Express. Exactly. You're not going to wear that. And I brought that home anyway. I brought home a bucket hat, a white golf bucket hat, which I was like, oh, that's pretty cool. And I'm like, well, actually, no, I'm not going to. I put it on. I look like a goose. They're so free, aren't they? They are so free. And so my resolution is just to not, because you end up in this job, you go and do little events and stuff, and you end up with all this free stuff. It's always hats. Pugs, you'd be happy to know the hat you gave me. I thought about it. I've taken it home. I tried it on in the mirror three different ways.
32:16Mike Minogue:It does not suit me.
32:17Jason Hoyte:No.
32:17Mike Minogue:But I will keep that hat. You know what? At least you gave enough of a shit to try, man. Yeah, 100%. I'm happy about it. 100%. So I just, that's, is that a good enough resolution? I think it is good. That's fine.
32:28Jason Hoyte:It's whatever you want it to be, man. It's whatever you want to achieve. Yeah? Yeah. What about you, Pugs, then? I've got three. You're going to stop giving people shit hats. Yes. Maybe you made that resolution last year, and all this year, you've been giving away all your shit hats to other people. And then getting offended when they don't take them. I've ended up with more hats than ever before this year. I've got three, but I'll blast through them. The first one is the same as one I had last year, which was to read more books. Is it quantifiable? Quantifiably, I've read more books than last year, even though that's like two, maybe three.
33:01Mike Minogue:So you've read three books this year? Yeah.
33:02Jason Hoyte:That's better than me. So I want to pump that up next year, maybe go for five. Good on you, mate. It's all progress, isn't it? The other one is to run 8Ks nonstop. Hell yeah, baby. Because the furthest I've gone is four. Yes. So I'm like, if I can do that in the second half of this year, I reckon I can double it. Yep. It'll be bloody hard. But I wanted to be attainable, but hard. Sure. And the final one is to book another international trip. So I've booked one for next year. And so I want to get that bug and come out the back end of that and go straight in towards working towards the next one.
33:34Jason Hoyte:Yeah, boy. And get a ball rolling.
33:36Mike Minogue:Yeah, right. Okay. Is that pretty good? I think those are good resolutions. I think read more books needs to be quantifiable. Okay. So you think - Like five was good. Okay. Yeah, we'll make it five. Let's make it five. Yeah, yeah. Run 8K, I think that's great. Thanks. And book an international trip, man. I love it. Sounds good. Could I hold you to it all, of course? Yeah, 100%. What's mine again? Oh, I haven't got one anymore. How do you do it? Nah. I've got a year old. World's your oyster. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Queens of the Stone Age on the Hauraki Big Show.
34:05Mike Minogue:Thursday afternoon with Keezy, Mogi and Pugsan. It's time for Mogi's Top Fives. Douche, douche, douche. This week we have done top fives on movies, on TV shows, on podcasts, and today we're doing food. This is our top five food items of 2025. Oh, yeah. For me at number five, obviously, let me just say that Reeburg is number one. Okay. I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings around that. Is it? Because I've just got Reeburger one to five. Yeah, that's right. So if we take that and then put it to the side and then go with some other suggestions. Otherwise it's going to be a bit boring for people.
34:44Yeah, true. Number five is Indian food. As a whole. Indian food. Indian cuisine, yeah. Yes.
34:49Mike Minogue:So you've been eating a lot of it this year. I always eat a lot of it. It's probably my favourite cuisine. I will be honest and say that I don't know of a great, great one in Auckland that is my absolute go-to. Right. So every time I order, I'm sort of still, I've not got my just one go-to, this is amazing. Yeah, you're still searching. Which is not great considering how long I've been here. But one of the issues I have is I will not go to an Indian restaurant that charges you separately for rice. I will not do it. I agree with that. $6,$5 for rice is bullshit. You can have it. And I also hate a$6 can of Coke.
35:31Right. I hate that. So I'm just putting that out there. Totally valid. Been having a lot more Thai this year. Thai is number four. My red curries, my green curries, Thai, isn't it number four? Penang. Number three, one of my favourite meals of the week is every Sunday we have croissants and coffee with the paper. Sunday morning, first thing in the morning, my daughter has a pan au chocolat, I have a croissant. That's a favourite, it's just a great time of the week for old mogi. Cute. Number two is I've found a spicy noodle joint and I absolutely froth it. Yeah. Had everything on the menu. I go and eat there as well, as opposed to just getting takeaways.
36:12Love it. Love it. I love it more than my wife, so I sneak into the restaurant and eat it without her knowing.
36:17Mike Minogue:When you say that, you love it more than you love your wife. Is that what you're saying? Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. Right, okay. That's a long list. Yeah, yeah, true. That's pretty much, you know. I love Pugs' hat more. Really? That one? Number one, and no surprises here, desiccated chicken. Oh, yum. It's just my go-to. Yeah, you bring it in. It looks dry. You microwave it. A little bit of salt, a little bit of pepper. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No salt, no pepper, because you get your salt in your soy sauce. You don't want to ruin it. Too many calories. Don't want to ruin it. That's right. So that's my number one.
36:46Mike Minogue:Wow, so your number one meal of the entire year is some dry chicken. Desiccated chicken with a bit of rice. And no greens for maximum scurvy. Yeah, good stuff. Was scurvy this year? No, that was last year. That was out in the cage. Time flies. Wasn't it syphilis this year? Oh, no, it was gone. That's right. That's right. A bit of Iggy Pop for you now. and coming up shortly on The Big Show, Pugsan and I will have our top five meals of 2025.
37:11Jason Hoyte:Yeah. The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
37:16Mike Minogue:It is The Hauraki Big Show for Thursday afternoon with Keezy Mogi and Pugsan. Coming up after six o 'clock, Pugs and I are going to share our top five foods for 2025. Very, very exciting. Yes. Also, fellas, another best of The Big Show moment and I think we should start doing a little bit of prep for tomorrow's Big Show breakfast show that we'll be hosting. It's a big day, man. It's a bloody exciting day. So, yeah, my dream was that we'd come in here at 4 o 'clock in the morning and really bang out some top-quality content, but why don't we just plan it now, and then it works as content here, and then again it works as content tomorrow.
37:50Mike Minogue:Plan it on the radio. Yeah, you're a genius, Keezy. Yeah, thank you. It's all about maximising content. That's all coming up after 6 o 'clock. Yeah!
38:00Jason Hoyte:The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike, and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
38:06Mike Minogue:It's a massive show, right? It's the Hauraki Big Show for Thursday the 18th of December and it is, of course, brought to you by Reburger. Handcrafted burgers, loaded fries and gourmet fries.
38:17Jason Hoyte:Yum! And gourmet eats that'll change the game.
38:25What?
38:29Jason Hoyte:What the heck? I was dreaming about Reburger. Oh, my God. It was so crave-worthy, but it was gourmet, and it was street food. Yum.
38:42Mike Minogue:So yum. I've been there, man, when you're just sort of asleep and you wake up dreaming of yogurt fries, Mooggy. Have you ever had yogurt fries? I have never had a yogurt fry. It's something that Reburger does. I've only just found out about it, to be honest. Yeah, really? Because I know that dipping your fries in a sundae is something that people do. That's good. Is it? I hate it. Yeah, no, it's good. Or a milkshake. Dipping your ice cream in milkshake. It's not something I'd go out and buy it and do it, but I wouldn't not do it if both of those things were sitting there. Yeah, right. You know what I mean?
39:12Mike Minogue:Are you a dip the head of your popcorn? The head of my what? The head of your ice cream in popcorn? Do you put the head of your ice cream into your popcorn? Yeah, I do. Because I've seen people do that. Yeah, same. No, but I have, though. I do it all the time. Moggy. What? Hang on here, Pugs. Hey. When you're eating an ice cream at the theatre, do you bite the top of it off? Does it have to be a melting ice cream? Preferably you eat it before it melts. And you dip it in the popcorn. Can you go further than the head of the ice cream? Sure, if you want it to run right down the hole. I mean, it's up to you how much popcorn you want on it.
39:51Mike Minogue:I like a lot of popcorn. Okay, so I'll put you down as a yes, you do like that, Pugs. And Moggy? I think I do. good stuff coming up next on the Hauraki Big Show Pug-san and Keezy's top five foods for 2025 God can you put dipping ice cream into your popcorn on that list dipping the head of your ice cream yeah melted ice cream yeah yeah cool God Jets good The Hauraki Big Show weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki Pearl Jam on the Hauraki Big Show Thursday evening Keezy, Mogi and Pug-san. It's time for Mogi's Top Fives. Douche to douche. Douche to douche. I've already done my one. Today it's food. We've done movies, TV shows and podcasts this week.
40:42Now the fellows are up.
40:43Mike Minogue:That's right. So our top five foods of 2025. Pugs, obviously Reburger, number one through five. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we've made a rule, no Reburger. Number five for me in 2025 is a delicious chicken curry laksa, which is Malaysian, one of my favourite cuisines. It is delicious curry sauce with noodles in it, chicken, and a boiled egg. It's so good. Yeah. Hangover cure. Number four, half-priced sushi, which we eat more than anything else. Chips should be on here as well. Chips should be on there, yeah. Yeah. Because there's a sushi joint just down the road from us here, and at 3.30 every day just before the show, it does go half-priced.
41:21Mike Minogue:Yes. And me and Moggy usually will go down there and just rate it. Yes. Number three, homemade peachy pasta. I love it. We brought home a whole lot of peachy pasta from Italy when we went at the start of the year. What's the spelling? P-I-C-I. Thank you. It's my favorite style of pasta. We brought home a few freeze-dried bags of it, and we don't home-make the pasta itself because it's quite hard to make, but we home-make the cacio e pepe cheese and black peppercorn sauce. It is delicious. That sounds good. It is. It's bloody good. Black peppercorn. I like that. Yeah, you put it in your mortar and pestle there and you squish it all up and you fang it in there with your parma reggiano.
42:01How about get that recipe off you?
42:02Mike Minogue:Yeah, 100%. Thank you. It's delicious. Number two, same spicy noodle joint that Moggy likes. I also like. Ah, yes. I have one dish that I get and I only get that dish because I've found the one I like and I love it with wide noodles. Hot spicy. The number one meal of 2025, it's something my wife and I are very passionate about. In fact, when we've got a special night just to ourselves, we'll quite often go and buy ingredients for this from your local market or from a fancy supermarket. Frozen pizza. Frozen Hawaiian pizza. No. It is heirloom tomatoes, stracciatella cheese, a bit of honey, some nice olive oil, salt on some delicious fresh bread.
42:40Mike Minogue:Fresh basil on there, Eva? A bit of basil sometimes, yeah. Yeah, 100%.
42:44Jason Hoyte:Those heirloom tomatoes are out-the-gate expensive. I've always wanted to buy one, and literally every time I go to do it, I'm like, I can't. You should put it on your New Year's Eve resolutions, man. See if you can't get yourself an heirloom tomato. Buy one heirloom tomato.
42:57Mike Minogue:Well, to be honest, the reason I've even got them is because my parents left them to me. They're like a family heirloom. Tomato.
43:07Jason Hoyte:Pugs, what's on your top fives, man? Here we go, fellas. We're going to roll through them. For food for me, top five 2025 at number five, unpasteurized French brie cheese. You've spoken about that before. You ever heard that? I've not seen it. Holy shit. Is it good, is it? Where do you get it? France? Any sort of deli or like fancy grocer. Fancy grocery. Generally have that in their cheek. Yeah. Sure. Lock it in. So that's delicious. Great on any cheese board. Melts right into your mouth, fellas. Right. That's probably the reason I smell like cheese. Number four is peachy pasta from me and my partner's favorite pasta restaurant.
43:49Jason Hoyte:What's that called? The restaurant Yeah Well it's not Rebeck It's not the same restaurant
43:56Mike Minogue:That I told you to go to The one that specialises in that
43:58Jason Hoyte:100 % it is
43:59Mike Minogue:Hey that's my favorite restaurant too Yeah
44:01Jason Hoyte:And so now that's the place Where I take any visitors That come up to Auckland We should go one time Nice You're all good brother I'd love to Nah Screw you man Okay number three Whipped feta and hot honey On couscous salad That my partner made one time She tried it She hadn't done it before. And it was unbelievable. Is she going to make it again? Whipped feta and hot honey. It's just like, oh, so good.
44:25Mike Minogue:I hope so. Number two. I would say if I had to describe you guys as a food pugs, you and your partner.
44:32Jason Hoyte:I'd be whipped feta and she'd be hot honey. Nah, you're all G, brother. So good. She'd actually love to hear that. I'll let her know for you. Number two. Dumplings and spicy and sour sauce. Hey, here he is. From said restaurant that you guys like to go to. Same place. it's the go-to you've got to get the spicy and sour sauce you know the thicker sort of job hot, spice, delicious number one my own coconut chickpea curry recipe it has not failed me one time that I've made it I have made it every single time I'm hungover and can't be arsed cooking it is unbelievable the lemon, the coriander, the coconut cream the tomatoes, the garlic it is so easy so cheap and has never failed I cooked it for my partner's grandmother and she went up for seconds, fellas.
45:18Jason Hoyte:That's how good it is. I heard she was saying, where's the effing mould? The Horaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Horaki.
45:31Mike Minogue:Muse on the Horaki Big Show Thursday evening with Keezy, Mogi and old Pug-san. And fellas, next year, Friday the 16th of January will be the Big Show's official first show back. Yes. It is random to be starting on Friday, but the reason is that the 17th is the Black Clash happening in Tauranga at the beautiful Bay Oval there. So on the Friday beforehand, we are going back to one of our old haunts. It is Mount Bruko, Mount Maunganui Bruko. We're going to be doing a live show, 4 p.m. till 7. All of us will be there warming up for the Black Clash, which is the next day. So if you are planning on making a trip to the Black Clash, come the Friday, come see the live show.
46:09Mike Minogue:First hundred through the door, get a free Backbone shirt. There'll be all sorts of deals and bar tabs be given away as well. So put it in your diary Friday the 16th of Jan. First big show back at Brewco, Mount Maunganui. Tomorrow. Yes. Breakfast. Yes. I'm officially in. I'm helping. It's the three of us. Fellas, what are we doing? What's the plan? Well, what do you start off with? I guess the obvious thing to lead with would be, go out. It's early. Yeah, a bit of early morning chat. Yeah, early morning chat. Go out. Don't normally do this, et cetera, et cetera.
46:39Jason Hoyte:I'm quite tired. I didn't sleep so well thinking about getting up early. That's right. So top of the hour, we're here. Surprise. Yep, okay. Surprise, we're here.
46:48Mike Minogue:Well, the big show's here. First break after top of, we'd be going with, God, sleepy, et cetera, et cetera. Right. The next break, I think we'd probably want to go with something along the lines of, we hate the guys from breakfast. Okay. Oh. Yeah. Because I was thinking of getting into that the first break, but we can put it off one. That's a good call because I think sleepy chat's good. Yes. Because it's like, surprise, we're here, whoa, early. And then the next one's like, man, I'm sleepy. That's right. And if we're going out 3483, are you sleepy as well? Yeah, okay. Because other people that are up at that time of day will either be A, sleepy, or B, willing to call us soft-ons for being sleepy.
47:28And then we can read that. That's right.
47:30Mike Minogue:And then obviously the next break after that, slag off the breakfast, guys. Yes. Right. I reckon that's two breaks. You reckon that's a two break? I think we'll get two breaks.
47:38Jason Hoyte:We could do one break there and revisit it in a later hour as well. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? Some people out the content. Yeah, we could take phone calls on that, text messages, have guests about it. This is your chance to slag off Jerry and Mania. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
47:51Mike Minogue:And Ruda. And Ruda and Zoe as well. Yeah, especially Ruda. So that's what we'll do in that third break there. In the fourth break, I was thinking about doing, oh, hey, guys, I'm kind of used to being sleepy now. Oh, yeah. You know what I mean? Sort of even it out. It's plateaued the sleepiness. That's right. Instant coffee update? Well, I think instant coffee update I'll do about 7.10. I think I'll have an instant coffee. So that break will be very much, man, I'm sleepy, but I hope this helps. Yes. And then at about 7.25, I think I'll do a sort of, wow, that coffee really woke me up, but I'm going to pay for this later.
48:22That's right. And I think something after eight as well, where it is how many coffees have you had? How many coffees is too many? Should I have been drinking water? Three for eight, three.
48:31Mike Minogue:Yeah, okay. Maybe at the one, just quarter past eight, that's prime time. Yeah. I think we do something about what cheese Pugs smells like. Well, I was thinking that we could be doing something first, Shat Chat. Oh, straight off the bat. Yeah, bring Shat Chat back because we haven't done that for a while. So a few old hits from the big show. Okay, all right. And then because Pugs reeks of cheese, we could bring that chat up. That would be a show meeting where we talk to Pugs about the fact he reeks of cheese and what they're going to do about it.
49:02Jason Hoyte:A personal hygiene sort of chitty chat about my cheese smell. That's right. Right, okay.
49:07Mike Minogue:Okay, so I'll put that there. Right, and then to be honest, once we've done Breakfast Mastermind, it's pretty much the show done and dusted. Perfect. Oh, I wouldn't mind putting a side break to slag Jase off. Oh, yeah, absolutely. For backing out of a bit. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we'll do that as well. Maybe a couple. Maybe we'll call him. We should ring him, I was going to say. That's a good idea. Yeah, okay, let's do that. All right, fellas. And then you just package it up, Pugs, and send it off to the Radio Awards. Yeah, can do, yeah. And that's a slam dunk. Breakfast is easy Is this Blind melon?
49:39Mike Minogue:Isn't it Dope Lemon? No it is It's Blind melon Yeah
