In short

The Hauraki Big Show full episode with hosts joking and debating why women tend to outlive men (X-chromosome “backup” theory plus male risk-taking), plus segments on: Mike’s movie review (Smashing Machine), TV/rural content (Country Calendar yaks), Mogi’s newspaper/eye-sight problem after Sunday paper delivery, a listener Q&A about stock car racing, ACC head G Lane discussing Australia vs New Zealand T20 (NZ short by 50–60; Tim Robinson century; bowling/batting analysis; rain forecast), and promotions (Diamonds on Richmond engagement ring giveaway; Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival; “gigalittle fund” $250 wins; Reburger ads).

Guests

No named external guests appear; ACC head G Lane joins by phone for the cricket segment.

Key claims

Women live longer due to double X chromosomes; men take more risks (booze/darts) and age quicker. Mogi can’t read the paper without glasses and accidentally “ate the sponge out of the kitchen sink.” Smashing Machine performances are strong but storyline is weak/two-dimensional.

Notable examples

Praying mantis sexual cannibalism is mentioned; Tim Robinson’s 106 in the T20; yaks’ inbreeding solved via frozen sperm; “Right of Replacement” podcast idea.

0:00The Hauraki Big Show. Thanks to Craveworthy Street Food. Freshly made with Reburger.

0:09Keyzie:Welcome, this is Big to the Hauraki Big Show. Really Big. With Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keyzie. Oh g'day you mad bastards. Great to have your company on this moody Thursday afternoon. It is the 2nd of October 2025 and you my friends as always listening to The Big Show brought to you by Reburger. Craveworthy street food freshly made with Reburger.

0:40What the heck? I was dreaming about Reburger again. Oh, my God. It was so craveworthy, but it was gourmet and it was street food. Yeah.

0:55Jase:Wow. Dreams are. How good's that dream, man?

0:59Keyzie:Yeah, totally. I dream about Ree Burger all the time myself, actually. Really? So it's really sort of relevant to me. When you're dreaming about Ree Burger, what burger are you dreaming of? Oh, the chicken one? Oh, yeah. But it's more about the fries, actually. Yeah, the fries.

1:12Jase:Hey, now, Mogi, you stallion, how's life? Go pretty grousy, you mad dog, you sick son of a bee. What's going on in the world? I don't even know, really. I'm just happy to be here, man. Sure. I've had a bit of a nap today, so I'm all a bit skewered with my timings, etc., etc.

1:27Keyzie:Look, I've got to be honest with you. Everyone's a bit skew-iffed today. Keezy's been on his computer all day. He's feeling all tired. He's been yawning up a storm. I'm feeling a bit wary myself. I mean, it's all on for the big show today. How are you going there, Keezy? Great jacket. There's about five things I need to address in that sentence. Yeah, I'm going really well, fellas. Yeah, man. You are. You get square-ised. You know, Mum used to, in the back of the day, she used to say, oh, you don't watch too much TV, you'll get square-ised. Yeah, that was lies. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was. Yeah. Was it?

1:56Keyzie:It was like the lie of don't have a go at yourself or you'll go blind. Yeah. You know what I mean? Your eyesight's terrible. Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean, I just want to point out that Mogi's blind in one eye, by the way. Yeah, how does that happen? Poor aim. Yeah, not good. Anyway, I'm great, and thanks for the compliment on the jacket. Oh, yes. Thanks, guys. Oh, it's just a really good jacket. It's just a green jacket. It's so good. It's just a green and black jacket. You're looking good, though, Jase. This is the yellow shirt under a red checkered shirt. It is, yeah. I wanted a bit of colour in my outfit today, so I think I've succeeded in that.

2:31Yeah, no, it looks good, man.

2:32Keyzie:Hey, Mogi. Yeah, baby. What's on the show today?

2:38Jase:What's happening on the big show with old Mogi? Pretty bloody exciting stuff. We'll be dissecting, raking over the coals and doing a post-mortem on the first T20 between Australia and the Black Caps, which happened overnight in Tauranga. Bloody exciting stuff there. Wow. Wow. And then we're going to be getting into a little bit of interesting stuff that's happening in our own personal lives. I don't know if you guys are up for that, but I'm going to be talking a little bit about a newspaper issue that I've been having. Oh, wow. Sure. So call your mates. Let everyone know Mogi's talking about a newspaper.

3:12Jase:And coming up shortly, we're going to be discussing why it is that women tend to outlive men. And this feels like we'd better be careful where we tread. Yeah, if you've got any opinions on that, text us 3483. Yes, but it ends. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Yes, indeed, guns.

3:33Keyzie:Rose is there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon. The time is 14 minutes past four o 'clock. Hey, fellas, I was reading the paper today. Wow. And by the paper, I mean the digital paper online. Came across an article, and I thought it was quite interesting, because generally speaking, women last longer than men. And I'm talking about on the earth. Oh, right, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And also probably sexually as well. Yeah, I'd say so. So women live longer than men is what I'm saying. Okay, there we go. What do you think the reason for this is? Yeah, Jase. Like if you had to try and pinpoint the reason why women live longer than men, Yeah.

4:18What would it be?

4:19Keyzie:Well, I mean, if I look at my own sort of situation, I pamper my wife. I do the hard yards. I do all the cleaning around the house, all the cooking. I go to work. I work my ass off. You do. Just so that she has funds in the account that she can spend, you know, she can buy whatever she wants. When I get home from work, I tuck her into the couch there. You tuck her into a couch. Yeah, and just make sure she's comfortable. First thing I do when I wake up in the morning, I make her a coffee. Right. And basically I spend my life looking after her. I'm not concerned about my own well-being. I'm only concerned about her.

4:58Keyzie:So in my personal circumstance, it makes sense that she would outlive me. And, of course, you know, she does the aerobics and stuff, so she's quite fit and healthy. You know, I tend to hit the darts and the booze and all that sort of stuff. I thought it would be more the punch and darts and sink and piss part. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Back in the day, of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So pampering, yeah. What about you, Mo? What do you think?

5:20Jase:Yeah, I think that's probably it. There's, you know, harder living. Right. There's taking more risks as well, Kesey. You know, generally the sillier things that get done, you know, are by men. Younger men as well. Obviously, the younger you are, the dumber you are, the more outrageous things you do. And that's why, you know, and you were saying this off-air, Jase, that's why men have got better stories. Yes. Because as you were saying, Jase, oftentimes you'll be listening to a woman tell her yarn and you're just thinking to yourself, oh, my God. Yeah, I don't know what that has to do with this particular topic.

5:56Jase:It's the risk-taking. Oh, right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I was hoping it wouldn't go down this path, Jase.

6:02Keyzie:Well, look, I've got to be honest with you. It's actually quite good for me in that regard because I just tune out. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, right, right. Well, I'll try and – the actual reason is, if you'd like to know, is that because women have double X chromosomes, whereas men have an X and a Y chromosome, and so if a mutation or something affects one of their X chromosomes, they've got a second one, which can sort of make up for it,

6:27Jase:whereas men don't. But they've got no Ys. They've got no Ys, exactly. And this isn't just in humans. In the animal kingdom, for example, females tend to live longer than males for that reason too.

6:40Keyzie:You were saying off air, Keezy, that when your wife's in a hurr of a mood, you often say to her, is your X chromosome all up the whack, is it?

6:49Jase:Can you please turn on your backup X chromosome? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was saying that off air, wasn't I? Yeah, you were, yeah. Yeah. So it's just DNA. It is just DNA. Once you've said that before Jase made a fool of himself with all that horrendously sexist stuff. Yeah. Well, I mean, at least, Jase, you've got a backup chromosome, zone, so you're sweet. Yeah, that's true. You've got an extra one. Yeah.

7:13Keyzie:Give us your thoughts, New Zealand, on 3483. Yeah, why is it? Why is that? They already have. I can't read out most of them on air. Oh, okay. Here's Green Day. The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. Yes, indeed. The Foo Fighters are on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon. The time is 4.26. If you're just joining us, We just discussed the fact that women live longer than men, and the same is true in many different animal species as well. Yes. And it's to do with the chromosomes, but also the fact that men are pretty stupid.

7:52Jase:Smoke darts and slam booze, and they're reckless. They're reckless. They're bank bones.

7:56Keyzie:Don't some female animals eat the males?

8:00Jase:Well, for example, the praying mantas.

8:02Keyzie:Yeah, yeah. I mean, that's a vicious animal right there. So it's not praying mantas. it's praying mantis I'm pretty sure no it's mantis but you also thought it was

8:12Jase:chromosomes yeah it's chromosomes Keezy with an M come on man um zone as in gnome eh Jase pardon nothing um a lot of great texts coming in on 3483 most of them just sort of up in arms it's sort of Jase's misogynist views oh it's horrendous and that's fair enough but the trouble is it's like um it's like a whistle call isn't it because Jase starts with his horrendous sexism and then every sexist bastard comes out of the woodwork. That's the woodwork, yeah. Yeah, but actually on the text machine, all the traditional sexist bastards have gone, hey, this is actually probably too far for us. That's crook.

8:45Yeah, my bad.

8:48Keyzie:I'm just saying it like it is, fellas. Yeah, man. You know what I'm saying? That's the thing, man. Shit, yeah. This is a good text right here. Fellers. You like that one? Men get it done quickly. They no-muck it around and chat and they just get stuck and get the job done and then die. Yeah. That's what men do. Yeah.

9:04Jase:We don't bang on about it. You know what I mean? And not to say that women, oh, you are saying that women do. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Come on, Jason. It's because men age quicker compared to women. Just look at Hoity J. For example, he's 39 and looks about mid-50s. You know, so that has a point there. Yeah, yeah. That's true. You're living proof of that point. Yeah.

9:23Keyzie:Hey, fellas, just on kind of similarly related. Oh, is this like a segue? Yeah, it's a segue. Yeah. I had a very disturbing chat with my wife last night. and after she told me about her day at work, which I just sort of zoned out for, she then was suggesting an idea that she had. And I want to tell you about it because it affects both of you. Sure. Right. She's had this idea, right, that her and Mogie's wife and your wife, Kesey, do a podcast entitled Right of Replacement. Nice. And she had the absolute audacity to suggest that some of the stuff that I say about her on air is untrue. Yeah, right.

10:17Keyzie:You know what I mean? And she feels like your partners as well are desperate to set the record straight. And I just wanted to get, because I sort of poo-pooed it. Right. I said, that's a terrible idea. It's never going to write. Yeah, but you sort of, you know, knock down any idea she's got,

10:33Jase:So she doesn't get above her station is what you call it.

10:39Jase:Jase. Jase, is your mic off? Sorry.

10:43Keyzie:Yes. I just want to know how you guys feel about that, the prospect of it. I actually think it's a good idea. Right. That's interesting. Yeah, you think it's a good idea. Why is that? I do.

10:52Jase:I think it's a really good idea for them to have the right to reply because I think what they do is I think they sort of take for granted a little bit what we do. They think it's easy. whereas if they got behind the microphone they would see how hard it is. Yeah, it's not just like, oh, sitting around, talking on your phone, eating chips, and then just, oh, shit, we're on air. It's not that. That's probably what they're picturing. Yeah, exactly.

11:14Keyzie:I think a lot of people have that picture in their mind when they listen to the show, you know. Well, it's BS. Yeah, yeah. And that actually racks me up a wee bit. Oh, it fires me up too. What fires me up is there's nothing that I've said on air that isn't true.

11:27Jase:Well, lately you have been going on about what a great cook she is. Mogi, can you pass me the chips there? The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Kesey. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hodaki.

11:41Keyzie:Yes, indeed. Rage against the machine there on the Radio Hodaki Big Show this Thursday afternoon. The time is exactly 20 minutes to five. Crazy. Hey, fellas, Diamonds on Richmond have come back on board with Radio Hodaki. Wow. And they've given us an eight grand diamond engagement ring to give away. How good. And basically the idea is if you know anyone who's really dragging their chain in terms of getting engaged, head to hodaki.co.nz. Get yourself in the draw. Not only will you receive a hodaki nudge pad, which is a special knee pad designed to say, hey, drop the knee. Oh, is that what they're for?

Read the full transcript

12:17Yes. But you'll also be in the draw to win that$8 ,000 diamond engagement ring. What did you think they were for?

12:25Keyzie:Nothing. You just take one, Jase. just one knee, all right? Okay. So it's interesting because our show, we're pretty married up. Yeah, for sure. You're married. I'm married. Though to be fair, Keesy, it took me 15 years before I proposed. So I did sort of faff around a fair amount. Right, and how long have you been married? 20. Hang on, haven't you been married for like 27? No, it's our 30th anniversary next year.

12:51Jase:So it's your anniversary, not your wedding anniversary.

12:54Keyzie:Yes. Right, and you're 39. Yeah. Yeah, I was a young fella. Did you have any guys? I mean, I went early. I went hard and early. So you were nine and you were like, yep, she's the one. Yes, I do. That's amazing, Jase. I'm looking at Pugs actually in studio. I mean, how long? Because he's kind of dragging the chain a bit, do you feel like?

13:15Jase:Well, look, I think I got to about a year in with my now wife. She wasn't then. Yes. And that's when I proposed. Wow. Got a year in. Around about a year there. In fact, it was exactly a year. Interesting. So that's the complete opposite of you, Jase, because I was just shy of 10 years with my wife. Right. Yeah, and I wasn't nine. I think we met when I was 20. Right. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So you straight in there. Yeah, yeah. I mean, I guess the difference is, Jase, you were nine. Kese, you were 20. Yeah. I was 45. Yeah. So I'd been around the traps. Wait, how long have you been married? Now, what is it?

13:50Jase:Almost 10 years.

13:53Keyzie:Wow. So that was really sensible, actually, Mikey, because it was still good at that point. Yes. You know what I mean? After a year, you go, oh, this guy's not too bad. You know it's about to go badly downhill, so you get it done quick smart. That's right. When you say you know it's about to go badly downhill, do they always go downhill? Yes. Like every marriage? Pretty much, yeah. Oh, yeah.

14:13Jase:Oh, hell yes. Name me one good marriage. Wow. I would say, to be honest, my go-to would have usually been Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. Oh, right, yeah. But that's open there. But on the bright side, you get a bloody good ring out of it, Keezy. That's the main thing, man. I get a good ring out of it. Well, you don't. Nah. But you get to be involved in giving one away for Diamonds on Richmond, which is pretty bloody good. Well, they say an eight grand, but I've had a word to the wise that it's worth half a million dollars. You've had a word to the wise? A little birdie has told me.

14:46Keyzie:Were you at the urinal again when this happened? Maybe. Was there a bird in the urinal? But hey, hauraki.co.nz Register yourself for a Hauraki Nudge Pad plus go on the draw to win an$8 ,000 diamond engagement ring. All thanks to our mates at Diamonds on Richmond. Yeah. The engagement experts. So good. In the meantime, here's ACDC. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. That was garbage on the radio. Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon. The time is 4.52. Let's talk TV. What's on the telly with Mike Minogue

15:26Jase:Hang on Hey fellas, last night I went and saw a movie it was a premiere movie called Smashing Machine directed by Benny Safdie who directed Good Times and also directed another film called Help Me Out Here Pugsun Uncut Gems with Adam Sandler This one, he normally makes the films with his brother, but this one I'm pretty sure he did on his own. And it's a story of a true story, based on a true story of a UFC fighter from back in the day who was in the first UFC championship. And it stars Dwayne Johnson. He's unrecognisable, guys. Right. The star of the show is The Prosthetics. He is unrecognisable.

16:07Jase:And Emily Blunt. Emily Blunt. She is a very, very good actor. Very good. Great actor. Great actor. I love watching her act. Yeah. Keezy, come on, man. What? She was quite brilliant. Although I will say, and this is not, I don't want any spoilers in here, but very good actors in it who did a very, very good job, but the storyline was not great. And especially Emily Blunt's character, it was a two-dimensional character. And frankly, I'm surprised she took the job, to be completely honest with you. But she's bloody good. It's the story of he's the best fighter. He's never been beaten in any kind of fight at all.

16:53Jase:We meet him. He loses a fight. He's got drug addiction problems. You can see all this in the trailer. And it's his battle back against those things and a fairly toxic relationship with his partner. Right. That is the journey that we go on. Yeah, man, I don't have a lot of great things to say about it. Oh, really? That's a shame. I give it really great performances, absolutely. I think it was badly ridden, and I think it could have been a lot better, and I give it two, two and a half maybe buzies out of a possible five buzies. Right, so not a recommendation at all. I don't really, no. No, okay.

17:27Jase:It was weird at the end. I was like, what do you think? And people were like, yeah, it was really good. I was like, oh, I didn't really, I thought it was a bit two-dimensional and not really drawn out and a bit weird structure, and they're like, oh, yeah, I did too. Well, I chatted to Prebs, who was there last night. He loved it. He really enjoyed it. Yes. So I guess it just depends who you are. Yeah, I mean, he's so true, Keezy.

17:45Keyzie:He's easily pleased, though.

17:47Jase:You know what I mean?

17:47Keyzie:The prebs. The old prebs.

17:49Jase:I mean, he had a box. I saw him, and he was just wolfing down the popcorn. He didn't even look at the screen. I was sitting next to him. It was a disgrace. Yeah, he's a pig. Well, I wouldn't say that. He's a popcorn pig. What did you call him out there? I called him Prebs the popcorn pig. You called him popcorn smashing machine. Oh, that's right, yeah.

18:09Keyzie:I did too. That was funny. I can't help you really, fellas, on the TV sort of scenario. I watch cricket. Waiting! No! Yes! No! Wait, so cricket, is that C-R-I-G-G-E-T? Cricket, Keezy. You said cricket. It's like a frog playing cricket. Cricket.

18:28Jase:What did you watch, Keezy Man? Huh? Oh, last night. I didn't watch anything. Okay, cool. Watched absolutely nothing. Actually, no, that's a lie. I watched an episode of Country Calendar. Oh, great. About a guy who has yaks. He has yaks. Yakety yaks. And the issue with the, that was the name of the episode. The issue with the yaks is that they've become very, very inbred because there's obviously not a lot of diversity when you've got yaks in New Zealand. So they had to defrost someone's, one of the yaks' great, great, great grandfather's sperm, which they had on ice. Oh, yeah, cool. And they used that to try and diversify.

19:07It was very interesting. Sounds a bit sort of animal porny 3.8 buzzies out of 5 I give it It was a good episode Yeah it was a great episode That's good Good stuff

19:18Keyzie:Hey now listen Speaking of great Coming up after 5 o 'clock Mogie's got a story about the newspaper Also we speak to G Lane About the cricket that I watched last night And you know just generic chat The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. You're welcome back, you massive backbones. Hope you're surviving your Thursday afternoon. You're listening to The Big Show, brought to you by Ree Burger. Handcrafted burgers, loaded fries and gourmet eats that will change the game. Shhh. Shhh. Oh. What? What the heck? I was dreaming about Reburger again. Oh, my God.

20:06It was so crave-worthy. But it was gourmet and it was street food. Yum!

20:17Jase:That guy gets it. Totally, man. Who, that Reburger guy? Yeah. Well, not that Reburger guy. The guy that was dreaming about Reburger. That dreamer. I bet he woke up happy. It was lucky we had a tape recorder there. Got a weird voice, though, don't you think? Hey, come on, man. Oh. That's a bit judgy-keasy. Come on, Robert. Not better than that, man. Yeah, sorry. It just sounded really high-pitched, but I guess people have high-pitched voices. Yeah, man.

20:40Keyzie:Well, especially when you wake up in the morning, all the blood's in a different area of the body, and so the voice does get affected. Right. Do you not sound like that in the morning? No. So you're saying that when blood flows elsewhere in your body, your voice goes higher?

20:57Jase:Yeah, totally. You get a bit nasally. That's weird.

21:00Keyzie:I'm not joking. I was wondering who the first one to do that was going to be. Hey, coming up. What's gone? What? Mogi Talks Newspapers. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. Incubus there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon. The time is 13 minutes past five o 'clock. 21:41Yeah.

21:43Jase:Thanks. Thank you. Thanks. Can I go for a wee? If you're on site, and you're probably not on site at the moment, you're probably your tools down already, but if you're working late, put your tools down, fellas. Turn up the site radio. This is a ripper. So over the weekend there, fellas, this one just made. I've been campaigning with the wife for a while to get the delivery of the Sunday paper brought back. Oh, yeah, because you used to have that, eh? Used to have that back in the good old days there, Keezy. But we've got a Sunday tradition, which is put on the coffee, put on the croissant, and it used to be also get the Sunday paper out of the letterbox.

22:22Jase:Oh, yeah, nice. Sit in bed, put the TV on for the kid, and the wife and I would sit in bed drinking our coffee, eating croissants and reading the Sunday paper. Bloody great way to start your Sunday there, Kesey. So anyway, we managed to get it back. Had it delivered the other day there and of course I'm up there. I'm on holiday but I'm the one making the coffee. I'm the one making the croissants but that's all good. Go back to bed. I'm the one that did all that but I have to read the small part of the paper and the wife gets the big part of the paper but that's all good. Anyway, I crack it open, and to my horror, I found that my eyesight is now so bad that I can't read the paper.

23:06Yeah.

23:07Jase:Have you been there, Jase? Because your sight, even though you're 39, is shocking, shockingly bad. But I didn't realise mine was so bad as to not be able to read a newspaper anymore.

23:19Keyzie:Yeah. I mean, as soon as my eyes started going milky, that's when I started having my problems. Yes. Now it's to the point where if I don't have my glasses with me, it's a very debilitating situation to be in. Like I am literally so blind now that if I don't have my glasses, I just curl into the fetal position and lie down. Yeah, because, for example, you wouldn't be able to read and say what the next song coming up is. Exactly. Can you look at that right now and have a crack at it? Who do you think it is? Moana? Nirvana. Close. What do you mean Moana? Moana. What, from the Disney movie? Yeah, yeah.

23:57Jase:We've started playing that now.

24:00Keyzie:That is a shocking story, Moby.

24:02Jase:Well, it is a shocker because now it means I'm going to have to go through the process of getting glasses, and I lose everything, so I don't want to. What about contact lenses? Have you considered that? No.

24:13Keyzie:I don't like people tutu-ing with my eyes.

24:15Jase:Even if that person is you?

24:17Keyzie:Yeah, even if it's me. I don't like putting stuff in my eyes. I definitely wouldn't want Jays doing it. You can just do the hoity J method, which is to buy like 50 pairs of$3 bastards, maximum sort of magnifying, and just have them all around the house.

24:33Jase:Yes. Well, I think that maybe that's what I need to do.

24:36Keyzie:Yeah, because I'm the same as you. If I actually spent money on glasses, you know, because you can spend a fortune, just ask my wife, and then I'd probably break them within about five days. Yeah. So that would be my advice. So how bad was your eyesight?

24:53Jase:Well, it's a bloody conundrum, Kesey. That's all I'm telling you, man. The worst part was I got halfway through my croissant and realised I was actually eating the sponge out of the kitchen sink. Wow. Halfway through? So you'd eaten quite a lot of it? Yeah, that's how blind I am. I can't taste anything either. It's shocking, man Oh, you think that's funny, do you? Here's Moana The Hauraki Big Show Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki

25:23Keyzie:Yes, indeed, Aerosmith there on the radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon The time is 5.26 Don't forget, by the way, you can text us at any point on 3483 Every text goes in the drawer for a$50 re-burger voucher Man Which is pretty great Looking for a bit of advice now, actually. And, Mike, you might be able to answer some of these questions, but to be honest, I think it's Hoity J's Wheelhouse.

25:46Jase:Okay, I'll step back. No, no, I want you to be involved. No, I'll be here, but just back a bit. Yeah, yeah, just back off a wee bit. Jase. Yes. I'm right in saying that you do stock car racing. You are right in saying that, yes. You have a stock car. I do. That's the one that goes on, like, for example, Western Springs-style track, dirt track. Yeah, exactly. The old dirt oval. I've seen him. I've seen him. Have you? Oh, yeah. Looning around there. He's a mad bastard. Are you sure it was him, though? Because your eyesight's pretty poked. Oh, this was before, though. Oh, right. Yeah, this was a couple of weeks ago.

26:21Yeah, right, okay. Because I'm thinking of getting into it. Because my family are big into motorsport. My dad and my brother are big into drag racing.

26:28Keyzie:I'm just going to stop you right there, Kesey. and what I'm about to say is because I care about you. Right, okay. It might come across as cruel. It might, but sometimes you've got to be cruel to be kind. I don't see why it should. Like it's just me asking about stock cars, but okay, go ahead. You'd humiliate yourself. But you do it. it's a very, how do I say this, manly sport. Well, I don't know. Don't need to be sexist. I'm sure there's plenty of females doing it. You know, you've got to know basic mechanics. And I'm envisaging Keezy in his immaculate stock car outfit with creases down the front.

27:17When you say stock car outfit, what do you actually have to wear when you're doing stock cars, by the way? Well, you know, protective gear. You're like, what stuff? Because I'm going to write a list and go get some.

27:25Jase:Yeah, you're certainly going to need your overalls, Keezy. No, Mike, I mean. Something cool on the back. Overalls? Yeah, yeah. Get some overalls. Overalls? Is that what you wear, Jase? And the problem is sometimes you have to drive your stock cars when it rains. That's right. So you'd get wet.

27:38Keyzie:Right, because when I was growing up, they used to postpone it if it rained. What I'm seeing is Keezy in his immaculate, clean little outfit. What's the outfit, though? I want to know what the outfit is. It's fire retardant. So if you catch on fire. Oh, like a fire suit. It's retarded. It retards it. Yeah. What do you mean by that? And I just see you in the pit with all the backbones in there fixing their stuff and you with your daddy with Don. No, Don's not coming. This is the thing. The reason I want to do it is because I want to show Don that I can.

28:09Jase:Because he was a stock car driver, right? More drag racing, but he did stock cars for a wee while. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He still does drag racing. Yeah, right. Well, because I was just wondering, how did you get into it? Did you spend time in the pits working on other people's cars? Yes, I did. Yeah, right. what was your role and what kind of cars were you working on? Well, stock cars, Keezy, obviously. What else would I be working on? What specific class of car were you working on? Because I want to do the same class as you, man. I'd love to race against you.

28:35Keyzie:Right, okay. Yeah, what class are you in? Well, as I say. Only the best. Yeah, or the fastest one. Okay, so what is that called? Because there's two usually. It's called fast class.

28:45Jase:The trick with that is it's all on the form when you fill it out, Keezy, so you'll see it on there. Right. Have you got any sort of motorsport licence? Absolutely, yeah.

28:52Keyzie:you have to have one. You can't just go willy-nilly on the track. You'll kill yourself. Come on, Gizzi. Yeah, right. Come on, man. This is what I'm talking about. And what club do you belong to? You're just going to humiliate yourself. No, I know. That's why I'm trying to get as much info as I can out of you right now.

29:05Jase:I guess the question is, do you think you've got what it takes, Gizzi? I don't know until I've got enough info. Yeah. Well, you don't. Right, okay. Well, can you just give me the basics? Like, for example, what's the name of the class that you race in? Fast class. Yes. Now, is that a sprint car or is that like a super stock or what is that?

29:20Keyzie:It's a sprint car. Right, okay. How many cubes is your engine? Well, that's none of your business. I'm not going to give away my secrets. Yeah, good on you, man. Well, it's just that they all have a certain size engine, so I thought. Some of them do. All right. How many people are in your pit crew? Just me. This is what I'm talking about. Right, just you. Yeah. Okay. So I pull in, change all the wheels, and then pull out again. Oh, do you pit during stock? car race. And you do sometimes on a long race. That's really weird. Okay, because usually they're very short races. Okay, interesting. Interesting.

29:54What kind of engine is it though? What builds do you go for?

29:58Jase:If you don't even know the basics Casey, this is really concerning me. I mean all the stuff's available on the website. You don't have to board. Jason's a champion. Far out, man. You get a chance to talk to a champion and what you want to be asking him is how do you race so fast? How do you get so many wins? What is it that gives you that instinct? Yeah, right. What are you the champion of? stock cars. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.

30:22Keyzie:Yes, indeed, Metallica there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday evening. Now, the first T20 was last night down at Bay Oval. Looked absolutely freezing, I've got to say, fellas. Did it? For the National Anthems. They looked like they were freezing their balls off. Not the outcome that New Zealand were hoping for. And with that in mind, we've got ACC head G Lane on the line. And Lane, disappointing in the end, mate. Yeah, you'd have to admit we were probably 50 or maybe 60 runs short.

30:50Jase:Yes. Given how they chased that down. But we got 181. I suppose the good news story, Tim Robinson getting 104 runs. 106 runs. Yeah, sorry, hit that last ball for six, didn't he? Yes. Look, only the third New Zealander to get a century against Australia in T20. So a pretty good achievement from a man who's only played 12 T20. So I suppose we can take something out of it, Jason.

31:15Keyzie:Yeah, well, I was going to say it was a pretty horrific start for the fellas. What were we, three for six in the second over? Not the sort of start you're looking at. Not ideal, as a description for that. Not ideal. So the fact we got to 181 was actually a pretty good fight back. Daryl Mitchell, he played pretty well as well. But, man, those Australian batsmen, they only deal in fours and sixes. They're not too big on the ones and twos.

31:41Jase:That's a bloody good recovery from there. I didn't get an opportunity to see it. I was busy at a movie theatre watching a shocker. But I do wonder, with the ease with which Australia managed to reach the total, having God knows how many balls up their sleeve and probably six or seven wickets, was it? Yes. What sort of state was our bowling in? Well, it wasn't – look, I mean, you've got to admit, the Australian batting line-up, it's like we're playing – Power packed. And I've got bazookas. Yes. So it's pretty tough. I mean, their batsmen, they're one to six. All they do is sit deep in the crease and look to hoik everything over mid-wicket or over cover.

32:21And that's their game plan, and I've got the big units to do it. So I didn't think our bowling was too bad, but their bowling was much better as well. They nailed the wide Yorker.

32:31Jase:Yeah, I was just out of my mind, a wide Yorker. I was thinking, well, just bowl wide Yorkers. Mate, it's a hard delivery to play at the bowl, and they nailed it. Hazelwood, too bad. Yeah, he did it to us. But we get a chance to have a go at them again tomorrow if it doesn't piss it with rain.

32:45Keyzie:Yeah, what's the forecast for that, by the way? Because it looks like it is going to be pissing with rain. Yeah, looking terrible for tomorrow. But hopefully it blows through so we can get a game in on Saturday and we'll see everyone down at Latitude Bar down there at the Mount from 4 o 'clock. How good. Hey, G Lane, it's Keezy here, man. Hope you're well. Oh, g'day, Keezy. How are you? Yeah, really great. Thanks, man. Well, he's a bit sleepy today, to be honest. It doesn't matter, Jay. It doesn't matter. We're here to check. He's got square eyes because he's been on his computer looking at weird stuff all day.

33:16He's been on the Weez last night as well. Nah, nah. Wednesday night Weez session. Nah, no midweek Weez, unfortunately. The question I've got for you, G Lane, is what are you having for dinner tonight? Oh, do you know what? I'm having some pasta and I've got to get a little bit of pesto that I've frozen earlier on in the week that I'm going to spread over that with a bit of butter, a bit of chorizo. Oh, wow. That sounds lovely. Yeah, that sounds delicious, man. Well, look, thank you so much for chatting to us today, and Pugs will send you out a$50 Reburger voucher, all right?

33:44Jase:Oh, excellent. Look forward to it. Good on you, mate. Thanks, mate. Thanks, Lane. And don't forget the ACC commentating two more games tomorrow night and also the Saturday game, and on Saturday as well. Well, they will be down at the actual Oval. Or are you commentating it from the bar, did you say, Lane? He's gone. He's gone. It's from the bar. He's gone. Oh, it's from the bar. Yes. And if you want to listen to either of those, it's on iHeartRadio, thanks to Export Ultra and the Beer Gun Studio there. Just search Alternative Commentary Collective. Do you guys like the Arctic Monkeys? Oh, man.

34:12Not really. Big fan. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.

34:18Keyzie:Red. Hot. Chilli Peppers here on the Radio Hauraki. Big show this Thursday afternoon. The time, 5.52. Hey, fellas, it's not long now. Just over a month until we are bearing down on Dunedin. The 7th and 8th of November for the Craft Beer and Food Festival down there. How good? Really excited about that. Do they sell chips down there, Matt?

34:41Jase:They do. Oh, good. Yeah, yeah, there's chips. Yum! You can get loaded wedges. Oh, really? Yes. Or are you just making that up? What about sort of chicken nibbles, et cetera?

34:51Keyzie:I think there's some nuggies there.

34:53Jase:Do you actually know that for a fact? Yes. Barbecue sauce? If you want. It's all happening at the Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival, 7th and 8th of November at Forsyth Bar Stadium. The 7th is a Friday. The 8th is a Saturday. We'll be broadcasting live on the Friday and we'll be pulling our pints for the entire thing. That's right. And when I say our pints, I mean Emerson's has teamed up with Hauraki and have created a big show beer. It's a hazy pale ale. It will be on tap at the beer festival. Yeah. You can win flights, accommodation and tickets for you and a mate if you head to hauraki.co.nz and come up with a name for the beer.

35:26Yes. Now, Pugs has just sent through an updated list. Go on. Of all the names that have come through and it is extensive. Hoity's Fizz. Hoity's Fizz. Don't mind it. Give him a taste of Keezy. Don't mind that. That's pretty good.

35:42Jase:You see, the thing about it is with a beer name, they're always going for short and sharp. Yes. And I think we can separate ourselves from the pack by having something that's really long like that. Give him a taste of Keezy. That's great. The Hazy Backbone Juice. That makes no sense. That's stupid. Right, okay. The Cloudy Bastard. Don't hate it. Not a fan. Snoz juice.

36:11I'm not going to read that one. No, I'm not going to read that one. See, I don't mind Tony on all fours. Stop suggesting that.

36:21Jase:Because Tony on all fours, to me, it paints a picture. It's abstract. Yes. It doesn't align at all with a beer. But Tony on all, I feel like a Tony on all fours. And I'm envisaging. It does.

36:34Keyzie:I'm envisaging, Mogi, the pitcher on the can too.

36:39Jase:Very come hitherish. Yes, very much so. That's right. Totally. That's what you want in a bear. Come hitherish. Yes, well, tempting, Kesey, is what you want from a bear. Tempting. And what's more tempting than Tony on all fours looking over his shoulder? Now, that could be on the end of that. You could have the whole title there. Tony on all fours looking over his shoulder. Now, that's a name for a bear. That's a great name for a bear. What about Wheezy Keezy Hashtag Nebuliser? Jizz Fizz. Hoity Jizz Juice. Hoity J's Jizz Juice. These are all separate entries that have come in. Obviously named after your cat, Jizz.

37:18Yes. Connie Chet. Oh. Just on its own. God, there's so many here. Yeah. And the issue is most of them are unreadable on the air.

37:30Jase:Oh, you know, I've got one. what's on the dinner with me, Keezy? See, I don't mind. I actually don't mind that. That is great. That is a great one. Hauraki.co.nz Head along, name our beer and you and a mate could be coming down to Dunedin with us and joining us at the Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival. If you want to buy tickets, however, DunedinBeerFest.co.nz Come and taste our beer. Heaps coming up after six, eh, Jase? Yeah, man.

38:00The Hauraki Big Show. with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

38:05Keyzie:Welcome back, you massive backbones. Hope you're surviving your Thursday. You're listening to The Big Show, brought to you by Reburger. Serving good times and good food. Dine in or takeaway at Reburger today. That's just the best Reburger I've ever had. Come and try this. Come and try this. Have you heard this before? Oh, my God. It's Reburger. What was it called? Oh, God. It's Reburger. Oh, my God. What are you guys?

38:38Jase:None of those have mentioned sauce chickens yet. What's going on there? I don't know, man. I'll have to have a word to the guy that makes them. Yeah, I think so. I think he's over in Sydney. No, no one's making them. We've got tape recorders in people's houses. Oh, is that actual people? Yeah, totally, man. It's box pops. Is it? Yeah, of actual people. Yeah, and we get them at various places, I think, coming out of the restaurant, et cetera, et cetera. Yeah, right. Some of them are under people's beds. Is that the other one that guy's just woken up? Yeah.

39:07Keyzie:Yeah, he's dreamt about it. That's so good, man.

39:09Jase:What are you guys having for dinner tonight? I feel like dinner tonight, like dinner tonight. Mogi's in a weird mood. Yeah, he is.

39:17Keyzie:To be honest with you, Keezy, I've got no idea. Oh, wow. And that worries me.

39:23Jase:Well, because your wife, she is an excellent cook. I didn't think it was possible, but your nose just got even bigger.

39:31Keyzie:What encouraged me today was that she was looking through a recipe book, and they looked delish, the stuff that she was looking at.

39:40Jase:Do you not trust her to sort of...

39:42Keyzie:Wing it?

39:43Jase:Yeah. I don't think anyone should wing it, to be honest. And they start very, very, very experienced. You know what I mean? Like, if you follow a recipe, it's usually 80 % of the time it's going to be really good, because they've published it.

39:55Keyzie:But you only cooked a set of pork mints, though. Last night, Jase, I made tacos with chicken thigh. How was that, by the way? Delicious. You like that? Really good, thanks, Mikey. I did like that. Thank you. Yeah, yeah.

40:10Jase:I didn't have any dinner last night. Oh, I had three boxes of popcorn. Actually, question for you. Are you eating soup with pieces of chicken in it? Is that what you're eating at the moment? Here's the thing about me. What's happened is we get one of these boxes of vegetables that turn up. Oh, yes. And mostly what they do is they fill the box up with some kind of a root vegetable that nobody wants. Sweets. We get a pumpkin every week. There's a butternut pumpkin in the basket there. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So we wait until that rocks, and then we throw it out. So anyway, the wife's banged together a soup out of it.

40:44Jase:Right. So what happens is the soup tends to go in the fridge there, Jason. You'll know what I'm talking about here before it goes in the bin a week later. Sure. So what I'm doing is I'm getting rid of the things of the fridge that can be eaten before they rot. Right, okay. So I've got chicken breast in there, and I've also got pumpkin soup. Yeah. Now, I like pumpkin soup, and I like chicken breast, so I just combine them. I don't care, man. It was like shredded chicken or something? I'm not making anybody else eat it. I know it's probably never been eaten ever before in the history of the world.

41:14Jase:I don't think so. And yet I still, yeah, I'm just banging it together. But yeah, hey, thanks for noticing, man. I noticed as well, actually. I thought it was a yellow curry. Yeah, I know. Is what I thought. Yesterday I thought I could get away with saying it was a butter chicken because I thought you'd like that, Keezy. But the truth is... It's a butternut chicken. It's a butternut...

41:32Keyzie:Here's the Rolling Stones. The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. Stone Temple Pilots here on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday evening. The time is 14 minutes past six o 'clock. Now, fellas... Yeah? Am I right in saying it's exactly... two weeks today and we're flying off to Fiji.

41:55Jase:Is it really? No, I think it's two weeks tomorrow, isn't it?

41:58Keyzie:We're going on the Friday, is it? I don't know. Ah, it's the Friday. Okay, but nearly two weeks today. Are we fizzing? Not, I think Mogi's fizzing the most. Yeah. I'm certainly happy about it. That's because he's turned it into a week-long family holiday afterwards, which is great.

42:14Jase:Not at all. Really? Not at all. The best part of it is going to be playing golf with you backbones. Yeah. Just old Mogi, Hoity Jizzbot, Keezy and Pugsan. And a couple of winners. Yeah.

42:30Keyzie:I'm actually massively looking forward to the golf. I think I'll play twice a day. I mean, are we thinking in terms of we're going to hang out as a group or are we going to have our own kind of separate holidays?

42:40Jase:Yeah, it sort of feels like Jase is trying to separate off from the group, doesn't it? You're welcome to, man. If you don't want to hang out with us, that's all, G. No, I'm just asking because I know that you're doing a bit of snorkelling. Well, I can tell you that's a strange thing to ask when you go on holiday with people. Well, that's the thing. Like, the winners, Nolsey from Levin. The old Nolsey. He's won a chance to come to Fiji and hang out with the big show. Yeah. And you're trying to separate yourself off. So you can go away and play golf a couple of times a day and ignore us. Is that what's happening here?

43:08Keyzie:Well, I was just sort of asking. I mean, are we intending to do our own stuff sometimes? No, not at all. Like, yeah, you can do your own stuff in our bedrooms. Yes. Because we get separate bedrooms. But as soon as you're awake and outside your bedroom, I'm going to be there. Pizza party? I mean, sure. I don't know. Do they do pizza at the concert? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, we can have a bit of a pizza. You see, I'd be doing stuff like that and then get up in the morning, go do our own stuff. No, no. We all meet at the restaurant. Go to the gym. We all go to the gym with Moggy because he wants to go to the gym.

43:42Yeah, man. And then we'll all meet at the breakfast buffet.

43:45Jase:Yeah. And then we all hop on the snorkeling boat. Yep. Then we all go out to that floating bar with techno music. Oh, that sounds so good. Yeah. No, I don't think you should have any alone time, Jase. Right, okay. I was just curious. I mean, this is work, man. It's not a holiday. Yeah, fair point. You get time to yourself on holiday, not at work. Do we get per diems? Yep. Sweet. I actually have no idea. I assume so. I assume so. It's going to be a bloody ripper, man. I hope she's a... Well, this is a thing, isn't it? Over there, the weather's always good. Yes. You can't go wrong. Even if it's bad, it's good, Keezy.

44:22Jase:That's what they say about Fiji. Have you heard that? No, it doesn't make any sense to me. Oh, no, it's just one of those things they say. Oh, wow, okay. But I am absolutely frothing for it. I understand it's an absolutely beautiful resort, and the Gulf is simply to die for. Jase, have you been before? I simply must. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.

44:42Keyzie:The Verve pipe there on the radio. Hodanki Big Show this Thursday evening. Now, fellas, I don't know if you know this, but we're getting into gig season. You know, the spring, the summer, musicians are sprouting up all over the place doing gigs. You want to be a part of that? Then you need to listen up. Yeah. Oh, it's Matt. Yeah, yeah, to you, Keezy. Oh, yeah, cool, cool. Totally. Radio Hodanki's gigalittle fund is back, and there's$10 ,000 in there, fellas. How good. Wow. We're giving it away thanks to Super Liquor. Cheers to gigs. Cheers to Super Liquor. Cheers to that. basically if you hear the roar of the crowd at any point on Radio Hauraki, you call us straight away on 0800 Hauraki, and you could win$250 instantly to put towards your next gig.

45:23Jase:That could just be some audio, right, of a roaring crowd sort of in between songs or something? Is that the idea, man? That's 100 % what the idea is. Okay, all with you now. We don't get a crowd to come through and roar any time.

45:33Keyzie:And just to get this straight, we're giving away cold, hard cash? Is that what you're saying? Yeah, well, what else would it be? We're not going to take cash away.

45:40Jase:So you're saying we're handing over folding notes, cold hard cash. You're not putting it into people's bank accounts? No, I don't know the nitty gritty of it. I'd assume it would probably be a digital transfer. Oh, okay.

45:51Keyzie:So I'm going to say, is it going to be like crisp$20 notes or$50s?

45:54Jase:And one$10 bill or five$50s or 25$10s? Totally. Yeah, yeah. Could be any of those things. Or two hundies. Probably not going to be any of those. It's probably going to be a digital transfer as I see. We don't know. You don't know the nitty gritty though. No, I know, but I'd assume. Oh, sure. An educated guess. You know, assume he makes an ass out of you and me. Oh, wow. That's clever. Yeah, it's very good. He spelt assume. Yes. What you could do, though, is once we transfer you the funds, you could go to the bank and ask for it out in whatever denominations you want. They'll charge you some fees that'll probably get down to about$138,$131.

46:28Jase:Wow.

46:28Keyzie:I would go two hundies, two twenties and a ten. Oh, yes. Yeah, just because I like the idea of flashing$100 bills around. You know what I mean?

46:38Jase:Everyone goes, jeez, old Hoardy J's doing all right. So when you're at the brothel, when you get your 20s out, are you sort of licking the edges? Because usually you just get$251 bills, wouldn't you? Fellas, come on. I think I'd go$100 note, 250s. A lobster, yep. Which account would you get it out of? Your fun account?

47:01Keyzie:This would have been just put directly into my fun account. I don't have a brothel account, Mogey. That's Jase. Yeah. I've got a brothel account Did you hear that? Clip that off man That's bizarre to admit that on the radio But yeah, 100, 250s, 220s and a 10 What would you choose New Zealand? Listen out for the roar of the crowd Give a call on 0800 at Hauraki Straight away you could win$250 Cheers to Super Liquor The Hauraki Big Show With Jace, Mike and Keezy Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki

47:40Keyzie:Well, there you go, you mad bastards. Done and dusted for your Thursday night. Hope you enjoyed the show. Make sure you check out our podcast and our Instagram account. And the podcast outro today, it was a bit lacklustre, I'll be honest. Was it? Yeah, we were all a bit sort of tired.

47:55Jase:We were actually. We ran out of ideas, I think, sort of halfway through it, which doesn't happen often. Keenzy, you're a bit buggered, though, weren't you, mate? I had square eyes. You're a bit square-eyed. Yeah. Yeah, I had square eyes. I was just been doing a lot of admin processing on my laptop today. Yes. Which Mogey does at about 4am every day. Yeah, I do it all day, every day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not built for that. But I'm going blind, so. Yeah, you're right. There's an upside. I won't be able to soon. Oh, man, really? I'll be blind, Kesey. Oh, wow. You still be able to talk on the radio, though, eh?

48:24Thank God. Yeah.

48:25Jase:But don't worry, I'll probably get sinusitis again. Sick. Here's a clip of today's one. I've actually, Pugs has listened back to it. He actually said it feels, from our point of view, that it was bad. but he said it was actually a very, very enjoyable listen. Here's a clip. What? To go from like having square eyes and being a bit zoned out to straight into monkey porn, eyes to the front, Keezy chat, is like really jarring. It'd be nice if we could just like make our way there.

48:52Keyzie:I'm waking you up. Yeah, it's the equivalent of someone just like throwing a bucket of ice water on my face. What were you looking at on your computer? None of your f***ed business. Oh, sorry about that, fellas. Sorry, I lashed out at the end there. That's my bad. Well, I mean, I understand why you were being defensive. Why is that? Just what you were watching. You know, I know that you don't feel good about it. We can't bring back the monkey porn yarns, Jase. Look, I'm not going to make a judgment either way, Keasy. You watch what you want to watch, man. And they're back. So, you know, fill your boots.

49:30Keyzie:Whatever gets you going, I suppose. Yeah, thanks, man. because it does. And if you want to call it admin, you call it admin, man. Yeah, I was doing admin all day. Nah, I can't even be bothered. Can we just end this show? Can we end this show, please? Yeah. Hey, do check out the podcast. Do check out the Instagram account. Till tomorrow, Friday, thank God. See you later.
