In short

The Hauraki Big Show hosts banter about “racking up” partners (petty, affectionate ways to wind them up), TV/movie recommendations, overseas travel gossip, and the word “Weltschmerz” (world weariness). They also run 90s music voting, discuss Bear Vana events, and chat hobbies like free diving and stock car tinkering.

Guests (on-air)

No external guests. The episode features the regular hosts: Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue, and Keezy (plus occasional mention of “Big Dilly” and “Mogi/Kesey” in segments, but not as formal guests).

Key claims

Love includes knowing what annoys your partner; teasing is a sign of affection. “Weltschmerz” means world weariness. Rocco’s Reverse is a party-tagline horror-comedy vibe (IMDb tagline referenced). Bear Vana has ~60 breweries and 300+ beers.

Notable examples

Zoom-meeting prank notes; horn-to-drop-off outfit teasing; “don’t toot” requests; pressing car console buttons; “Kung Fu” shoe misnaming; Shining Girls (Elizabeth Moss) review; Love Island UK finale; Keezy’s refusal to share travel itinerary.

0:00Jase:The Hauraki Big Show. Thanks to crave-worthy street food. Freshly made with Reburger.

0:08Keyzie:Welcome to the biggest show on earth.

0:11Jase:Our biggest show. The biggest. This is big.

0:14Keyzie:The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keyzie. G'day you mad bass. It's great to have your company this moist and moody Thursday afternoon. You're listening to The Big Show brought to you by Reburger. Seven good times and good food. Dine-in or takeaway Rebegga today. Rebegga.

0:35Jase:Delish. Rebegga, b***h.

0:39Keyzie:G'day, pug-son, you stallion. Hey, Chase, man. How are you? I'm okay, thanks, man. I'm glad to hear it. You look very handsome. Thank you. You haven't noticed the jeans that I'm wearing today, new jeans that my wife bought me. Really? Are you actually wearing new jeans? Yes, I am. Oh, I haven't had a look, man. Sorry. I mean, you're cut off by the computer monitor here. They really hug my arse. I'll be the judge of that. Thanks, Jess. Yeah, well, you can have a feel later on. Thanks, man. Now, we're in a weird situation. I arrived to work today and literally it was only Pugs here. Yeah. It's the weirdest vibe.

1:15Keyzie:And now there's Big Dilly and Studio B, of course. Of course. But there's no one else here in the entire goddamn building. Everyone is on holiday. and it occurs to me, Pug-san, that it's a perfect opportunity to steal other people's stuff and go through their drawers. Are you in, man? No. Unless it's chips. Or we could have a massive sleepover. Oh, set up a little blankie fort in the office. Yeah, I reckon. Well, maybe we'll do that tomorrow night, have a bit of a pyjama party for our last show together. I would like that very much. Now, listen up, people. We have a massive, and I mean massively minimal show today.

1:58Keyzie:What? But stay tuned because we're kicking off with a bit of REM.

2:02Jase:The Hauraki Big Show. With Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy. And boys. What the hell? The Jays. On Radio Hauraki.

2:15Keyzie:Yeah, welcome back, you massive backbones. By the way, I hope your Thursday is going along very nicely. Yeah, real nicely. I had a bit of an epiphany today, Pugsam. Oh, yeah? And that is that I realised that I'm probably, and you're going to disagree and go, no, no, no, no, but it was a deep realisation, and that is that I think I'm quite annoying to live with.

2:43Keyzie:Ah. Now, there's some people out there that would say, I would have liked you to sort of negate that. I would have liked you to have negated that point. Oh, sorry. No, this is my time to listen. I'm just letting you share your story. You know, I will acknowledge that part of Hoardy J's personality is a little bit of a shit stirrer. Yeah, part. And I had a situation today with my beloved where she was working from home and she had a Zoom meeting in our sun lounge. I told her to take it into the spare room, but there's so much filth in there. She said, oh, no, it's a bit messy. And I said, yeah, it is.

3:27Keyzie:So she was doing it in the lounge, and it's blaring away there in my wife's, you know, being very attentive. She's such a teacher's pet, man, you know what I mean? She's a greaser. But anyway, getting back to my – She does like a professional job, eh? She's having this Zoom meeting, and I just couldn't help myself, and I was just shit-stirring off the planet. And I can't even tell you the stuff I was doing behind the computer to try and distract her. Oh, really? You can't tell me. Some of it was shocking. And then I'd write her little notes and things like that. And she'd just read them and just give me, she gives me the stare, Pugsam, the stare, which is, okay, we're done here now.

4:11Keyzie:And when I dropped my tweeds, I think that was the final nail in the coffin. But to me, and I don't know if people agree with me on this, to love someone is to know what racks them up the most. Absolutely. I've got a partner, Jase. You sure do. And she... You rang me in tears last night. Love it to death. She likes nice things. Like when we go to the supermarket, for example, she really wants to get the good quality products, and I totally understand that. Not your Pams. No, whereas I'm rocking with your Pams. I'm like, just get your home brand stuff because it's about, for me, it's like, well, we're cooking the dish, so it's how we cook it that it comes out, you know what I mean?

4:57Yeah, your tofu and stuff. Yeah, my Pam's tofu. And so what I'll do is obviously she will insist on getting the nice ingredients and then so when we're actually having the meal later, I'll just make sure to really just go, jeez, you can really taste the name brand in this bad boy, you know what I mean? and just real passive-aggressive, and it winds her up a lot. But she knows she likes good quality stuff, but it is a really, really good one.

5:21Keyzie:We've talked about this before, actually. Another thing I do, and it's just when I'm bored. It's generally when I'm bored. I randomly will say to my wife, are you grumpy? And because I'm just, you know, I'm poking with a stick there. I'm plotting away there just to get a reaction out of them. And I'm curious to know, you know, because I do believe it's a sign of love. 100%. And deep affection. What the other people out there, our backbone listeners, do to rock up their partners. That's right. Give us a buzz on 3483, or if you've got something good, give us a call on 0800 Hauraki. There's also the Talkback app, the Talkback function on the iHeartRadio app.

6:02Yeah, good stuff, man. There's a text here on 3483 just out the gate. You're annoying to listen to as well, Jess. I could have told you that, though.

6:10Keyzie:Here's Australian Crawl.

6:14Jase:The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

6:21Keyzie:The offspring there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon. We're talking racking up your partners, which I think is absolutely a sign of affection and love. And I had a bit of an epiphany today, which Pugs vehemently disagreed with, but I think it's true and I've just got to take it on, that I think I'm probably quite an annoying person to live with. Yeah. And you vehemently denied that. You said, I can't even imagine that. And I was like, Jase, don't talk that way about yourself, man. And then we had that text that said you're annoying to listen to as well. But not work with, man.

7:02You're sweet.

7:03Keyzie:Yeah, yeah. because we had a fun chat at work today too, didn't we, on the chat thingy? Oh, what's it called? WhatsApp? I was in one of those moods, Pug San. Yeah, you were. It happens every now and then, and you've got to embrace it while it's there, eh, Jase? We do have a few texts on 3483, and every one of them in the draw for a$50 re-burger voucher. We want to hear how you rack up your partner specifically because that is a sign of love, as Jase says. Someone here says, I introduce her as my first wife and see what happens. That's a great way to wind something up. Especially in like a social situation as well where they can't like get too mad about it, you know what I mean?

7:41Until later. Someone said, when I'm driving, my boyfriend will pretend to press all the buttons in my console because he knows it'll piss me off.

7:51Keyzie:Big Dilly in Studio B was saying that when he had a girlfriend, which was what, five years ago, six years ago? More than that, yeah. Maybe seven years ago, when he used to sit in the car with her and she was driving and they were at the lights. At an intersection, yeah. He'd put her car into neutral to slip it. Yeah, yeah. Another one I do with my partner is... I know what you're going to say with your partner. She'll show you a new top or something and you'll go, it's pretty wacky. Jase. Jase, that's what you said about how she dresses, man. And that's why we don't get any bloody chips. What I was going to say was particularly when she got this new job, I obviously start work later in the day, so quite often I'll drop her off to work if I'm on my way home, for example, from her place.

8:36Oh, yeah. And I'll drop her off out the front where everybody's congregating to come into the office or getting their coffee from the coffee shop around there, and she'll be like, don't toot. Just don't toot today. And so just as she's about to get in the door, I'll just lay on the horn a couple of times and then make some snazzy comment about her outfit.

8:55Keyzie:Yeah, good. So actually that just reminds me I used to do that. There's nothing worse for a teenage girl than dropping them at school and going, and then taking off again. Or being like, love you. Love you, darling. As you drive away. And then everybody turns and looks. Yeah, exactly. So good. Somebody here texted on 340. Funny of you guys to assume that Hauraki listeners have partners. Yeah, that's true, actually. That's true. Just a bunch of dillies out there.

9:23Jase:The Hauraki Big Show With Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy

9:29Keyzie:Foo Fighters there on the radio Hauraki Big Show This wet and miserable Thursday afternoon No misery in here, Jason Oh, it's not nice and cosy in here Yeah But it's terrible out there But hey, be calm New Zealand Because winter's coming to an end very soon Now listen, do you remember the 90s Pugsan? Little roly-poly Pugsan? little jolly roly poly pug son in the 90s there. Are you saying that I'm jolly roly poly pug son now? Are you saying the 90s me was? The 90s you. I would agree with that 100%. I was born in 96, so I wasn't there for long. Right, yeah, sure. But, hey, what I remember is so good, man.

10:12Keyzie:Absolutely, because we're running this amazing competition at the moment and we want your input, New Zealand. 100%. We want to know what your top three tunes of the 90s are. My prediction, and I said this, it's on record, it's on wax about a week ago, that I reckon Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana is going to do really well. Yes. Well, they always do, don't they? They do. And it's not for no reason. It's an absolute tune from an absolute ripper of a band. But we want to know your top three songs of the 90s, and you can do that by texting VOTE to 3483. And we have some amazing prizes to give away, don't we?

10:48100%. So we're going to give one person who votes on this countdown a massive 90s starter kit prize pack. If you want to see for yourself some of the items, you can go to the Radio Horeki NZ Insta page. But there's a few of them here. A Fendi guitar. Doc Martin boots. Doc Martin boots. A retro gaming console. Chuck Taylors. A 95 Waz jersey. We'll even just chuck in$1 ,000 cash because cash is timeless, Jase.

11:13Keyzie:Yeah, totally. And you can do whatever you want with cash because you might hate all that other stuff. Well, I don't think you would. I don't think you'd hate a free pair of Chuck Taylors and a Casio watch, Jase. Well, it depends what sort of colour they were in, really. Also - I mean, if they were purple, I'd probably hate them. Also, a couple of people were texting in yesterday, Ree, those - What were those shoes you were talking about? Oh, the karate shoes. Yeah, yeah. People were saying that they were actually affectionately named kung fu shoes, like karate shoes. And just on that note - Racism alert.

11:42Racism alert. Just want to get that out of the way. Can I put something out there genuinely?

11:48Keyzie:Sure. Does anyone else out there remember the Kung Fu black shoes? Well, that's what I'm talking about. We had three texts yesterday after we talked about it, and you called them karate shoes. Oh, right, okay. And they were all correcting you. Kung Fu. Kung Fu shoes. Because I was beginning to feel like it was a figment of my imagination. I'm going to look them up. But seriously, I just remember everyone going batshit crazy, going, we've got to get a pair of those shoes. They came back in the early 2010s. and intense. I remember being in high school and they're kind of like Winkle Pickers. Like a little bit like Winkle Pickers.

12:20Keyzie:Well, you'd look great in them because you'd love all things Asian. Racism alert. I mean... Racism alert. I'm talking cuisine and caps and stuff. Okay, a bit of anime porn, but I mean... Okay. Just on that note, I'm going to fly I'm going to find you a pair of Kung Fu shoes. I don't want your Kung Fu shoes. Get amongst the 90s till now. No, nothing but 90s countdown. All thanks, homemates, it's Super Liquor. Cheers to 30 years. Who's this, Jase? Radiohead. Nice.

12:56Jase:The Hauraki Big Show. With Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy.

13:03Keyzie:Spamboids.

13:03Jase:And the jizz.

13:07Keyzie:Right now it's time for... What's on the telly? with Mike Minogue.

13:26Jase, if I could just... We've had a text on 3483. G'day, fellas. When you guys do what's on the tally, do you reckon Hoody cannot spoil the plot of everything he watches? Thanks. which you are quite prone to do.

13:43Keyzie:Well, yeah, that's a fair point, actually. Well, I'm trying to explain what's going on. Yeah, but you don't have to. You can explain the premise of something without saying, like in that Bloody Wolves movie yesterday, that the body wakes up. That's like a pretty integral plot point. Yeah, it is. And the reason for the start of the arc of the film. It happens very quickly. Yeah, no. But anyway. Yeah. I stumbled upon a... No, that's not right, actually. I saw this series. Sure. I think it's on Apple TV and then forgot about it because I looked at it and went, oh, I want to watch that. And it's got the fantastic Elizabeth Moss, of course, from Handmaid's Tale, The Invisible Man.

14:22Keyzie:She's an unreal actress, yes. And she is a fantastic actor and every role she plays is brutal. Yes, she was also in The Invisible Man. They made a new Invisible Man. Did you see that? That was brutal as well. It was brutal and it was actually pretty good for a new horror movie. Yeah, it wasn't too bad, but anyway. And then I tried to find it again, and of course I couldn't. But then we found it again last night. It's called Shining Girls. And the basic plot is this, without giving the game away. Newspaper archivist Kirby Masraki's dreams of becoming a journalist are put on hold after she survives a brutal attack that leaves her in a constantly shifting reality.

Read the full transcript

15:05Keyzie:Oh, wow. Now, the story is basically focused around her and this brutal attack. Yes. And the serial killer responsible for it. Okay. So other things happen, which I won't go into. No, thank you. Related to the serial killer. And she's trying to figure it all out. Now, what did you like about it? Well, her, for a start. Yes. Also had, what's his name? Wagner Mora, who played Pablo Escobar. Yes. Narcos. It was great. Who plays a journalist who's following the whole thing and trying to track down, you know, who this guy is. Who attacked her. Who attacked her, but who attacked all these girls. Yes.

15:48Keyzie:And killed some of them. But he's your classic down-and-out journalist. He's a drunk. You know, he's not going well. But he's very good as well. I really enjoyed her performance. the fact that her reality is always changing is quite disorientating. Right. So there's moments where my wife and I are going, so sorry, hang on, where are we? What time? Ah, yeah, you lost track. What time frames this one? Okay. But other than that, it's very good. I'll give it 3.8 buzzies. That's pretty good, Jase. Yes. That's above average. Now, I watched the finale of Love Island UK last night. and I've been told off via Instagram DM for spoiling what's been going on on Love Island so I just want to give everybody fair warning that for the next minute probably there'll be Love Island chat the reality is you don't care what's going on you just care that all the women are in bikinis you filthy bastard okay Jase I think you'll find that at the finale they dress to the nines man that is them at their best alright and the fellas put suits on instead of their budgie smugglers Well, you messaged me and said it was really disappointing.

17:02The result, yeah. No, actually, I was stoked with the result. It was great. An American actually won Love Island UK for the first time.

17:09Keyzie:And can I ask, what qualifies you to, what do you win? It's basically popular vote. People like the couple that you're in, or they like the individuals and how you make up as a couple and how well you've found love in the Love Island Villages. And you know, some couples go through strife and come out the other side better for it. And they also win£50 ,000. That's so annoying. Thanks, man.

17:38Jase:The Hauraki Big Show Podcast.

17:40Keyzie:Yeah, welcome back, you massive backbones. Hope you're surviving your Thursday night. You're listening to the radio Hauraki Big Show, brought to you by Reburger. Crave-worthy street food, freshly made with Reburger. Yes! Get it in ya! A wonderful thing just happened. Just straight after that last voice break. Yes, it was fantastic after what's on the TV with me, Mike Minogue, and we were chatting TV and someone texted in, hey, Hoity J, have you ever watched Rocco's Reverse? And Pugsun was like, oh, I wonder what Rocco's Reverse is. What was Rocco's Reverse, Pugsun? I can't say the full title of what Rocco's Reverse is But I googled it on the work computer And immediately had to close the tab Well when you say immediately It took you about two minutes to close it Well no I closed it on the work computer And then opened it on your phone Private browsing on my phone Yeah yeah yeah So give us a general Like if you were describing the plot of Rocco's Reverse What would it be?

18:52Literally the tagline on IMDb, because it has an IMDb page, was, and I'm going to exclude one word from this tagline, and I'll let the audience guess what it is. Sure. It's a party, and you're invited. Now, there's one word missing from that sentence that sums up Rocco's reverse on IMDb.

19:13Keyzie:Hey, well, listen, have you got any other recommendations for Pugs on 3483? Because you're a bit of a film buff. Pugs, I think it's fair to say, isn't it? Yeah, totally, and I'll do some research. Yeah, and he can research them up. Yeah, 100%. Give me his view on it, and then I could watch it after you've watched them. It's a shame that your wife's got back, because we could do a viewing party at your house for Rocco's Reverseman. We could have too. Yeah, sad.

19:38Jase:The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike, and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.

19:44Keyzie:Marcy, playground there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon, and the movie recommendations pouring in now for old Pugson after he looked up Rocco's Reverse. Some really good ones there. I genuinely was like, oh, maybe Jase will be into this. Maybe the people are recommending something great. It didn't occur to me that it was going to be what it was. I thought it was going to be some tense psychological thriller. I think tense would be about right. Yes, yeah, maybe. Good stuff. Now, listen, we've got an official apology to make. from the big show. Now, obviously, Mogey's over in London.

20:24Keyzie:Yeah. And he wanted to meet up with some backbones. He's found some pals too. He went to an Arsenal game over there in London. Yeah, he did. It looked like he had a bloody great time and was enjoying himself. And it was very much in the big show spirit, I thought. Of course, meeting backbones. And here's the sad news. A lot of people have been wanting to get in touch with Kesey. the other travelling backbone. Yes. And so we got in touch with Keezy and said, hey, mate, would you mind just letting us know your travel itinerary so if there's backbones around the world who may be where you are, you and your partner could meet up with them.

21:07Keyzie:Yeah. And have a few beersies. Just meet them, yeah. Could quaff a few wines as he seems to be doing while he's over there. I'm not getting, like, photos with him like they get with Mogi, but, like, at least go and meet him. You know what I mean? Spread the word. Yeah. Spread the word. But no go. Nah. Absolutely selfish. Unbelievably selfish against the spirit of the big show. Aye. He's over there with his wife, who calls me every night in tears. Shit, she must be racking up a big phone bill. I reckon, man. and he can't see to go out of his way and let us know where he's going to be so he can meet a few backbones.

21:49Keyzie:A disgrace! Disgrace! You got the apology music there?

22:01Keyzie:Pugs and I, on behalf of the Big Show, would like to extend our apologies to all those overseas backbones out there. Yeah. We know how much you love Kesey, with his big meat patty nips. Yeah, and his massive beak. And how you would have loved to have got in contact with him and shared a quiet bear on the Riviera or something like that, by a castle or, you know, watching a bit of bullfighting. And I'm sure he's totally flattered that you'd want to see his itinerary. Absolutely. He just doesn't care. Well, he actually went so far as to say, and I wasn't going to mention it on air, I have no interest in the filth.

22:43Keyzie:You don't mean he meant... He meant the backbones. The international backbones. The international backbones that do the hard yards over there in another country. You know, and I feel a bit sick in that old Pugsan and I actually have to cop. We're copping it back here in NZ. He's leaving us to do his dirty work. Totally, man. And apologise to the great people around the world. I bet he's sucking down a whine as we speak. He's probably quaffing an Aperol spritz, you know? So on behalf of the big show, we would like to apologise. We will endeavour again to get his itinerary so you know where he's going to be and when he's going to be there.

23:25Keyzie:We're trying. He's barely messaged us. The only message he sent me is, how's the golf going? Did he actually? No. I sent him my scorecard and he responded, ha ha, how good. That's it, man. That's it. After years of letting him suck on my buzzy. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You mean like Nestle at the bosom of Hoity J? Well, yes, Nestle at the buzzy of Hoity J is the same thing. Suckle on my buzzy. He doesn't have the decency. The guts. To get back to us. So we apologise on behalf of Keezy. Can I also just say him calling the international backbones filth. Is that what you said? Yes. Racism alert.

24:09The Hauraki Big Show Podcast.

24:11Keyzie:The Who there on the radio. Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon. The time is 5.24. Now, you know I'm quite a literary fellow, Pugs, and you know that I'm a prolific reader, for example. No. Oh. You read a lot of books. I read a lot of books, not comic books like you, like book books. What was the last book you read? It's called Happiness. By an English author. I can't remember his name. Porn doesn't count. But the thing is, don't talk to me about porn when you're researching it on the work computer. I'm not! But I discovered a new word last night. And it was to do with a central character who's, let's just say, about my age.

25:01Keyzie:43. 43-ish. 44. He was talking in the book about how he was sighing all the time. And you know old Horty Jay has a propensity to sigh all the time. I would call it an addiction. It's like a coping mechanism for you. It kind of is. It's like a breathing exercise. And he was worried and he was wondering why he sighed all the time and he needed to stop sighing all the time. all the time, and he discovered this magnificent word, which he felt summed it all up perfectly as to why he sighed, and the word was... Welchmatz. Welchmatz, which I believe... Sorry, can you try it one more time? Welchmatz. And now I'll play it off here.

25:52Keyzie:Welchmatz. Ah, Welchmatz. Yeah. Welchmatz. Welchmatz, which I think is Germanic. Germanic. It sounds Germanic to me. It is. It is of German origin, yeah. And its very simple definition is world weariness. Yes. So it's sort of, if you've sort of lived a life, you're almost like an old ram cast. In the back paddock there. And you've just sort of, you haven't had enough, but you're just a bit, you're a little bit tired. Can I tell you what you are, Pugstone? You're... You know what's quite interesting, looking at the origins for this word on Google, the use over time for the word has gone up drastically in the last 200 years.

26:44Well, that doesn't surprise me. The world's got a lot more frantic. So it's probably at its height around the 19, what looks like the 1960s and 70s.

26:52Keyzie:I'm currently in the process of writing my autobiography. and Mogi had this brilliant suggestion that my autobiography should be called... But I don't know... How would you spell that out? Yeah, that's my problem. I don't know. I can't spell that and I don't know how to spell buzies. You don't know how to spell buzies? No. Well, you're typing it all the time into your phone. You should know by now. Is it Z? But now I've got a perfect title for... My autobiography. Pardon? Sorry. Valshmats. Valshmats. Valshmats. How good, man. It's good, man. I can't wait to read your autobiography.

27:38Jase:The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy. Hugs. Hoyty Jay. More like Sperm Boy and the Jizz. So true. It is more like Sperm Boy and the Jizz.

27:53Keyzie:It's just the way he says the Jizz. That amuses me greatly. Thank you. Hey, now listen, really good news. The fellas are back on Monday, obviously. Yep, we'll have the full team back. I'm fizzing. And genuinely, as I said yesterday and I've been banging on about it, it does feel like ages since we've had a full team. Oh, yeah, 100%. Well, obviously, Keezy went away for one week. Yes. And then it was you, Mogi, and I. Yes. And then Mogi also went away for two weeks. So both of those guys have been away for two weeks. Yes. It's quite a big stint. Keezy three weeks. Yes, that's right. And that's why we were so disgusted he won't give out his itinerary.

28:30Keyzie:It's kind of the least he can do. Yeah, well, so Backbones can get in touch and have a beersy with him. Yeah. Hey, but really good news. So the fellas are back on Monday, full team on board. Added to that, we're on the road again. We're going to be at Parrot Dog Brewery in Lyle Bay on the 21st of August, I believe, Pugsan. That's right. It's a warm-up show for Bear Vana. Obviously, that's happening on the 22nd and 23rd of August. and so we're excited to have the whole team back for a live show. Also, previously when we've done live shows in Wellington, we actually have done it from the Beervana event, which has meant that it's not really open access, whereas this will be.

29:07Parrot Dog, we want any and everybody to come along. Obviously, we want you to go to Beervana, but even if you're not, come and join us for a massive warm-up show.

29:14Keyzie:Well, basically what Pugsana's saying there is the big show is going to be fully open access. Yeah. I'm going to be open access. You're going to be open access. I definitely will be. I said the front pug, son. That is just... Jase, I'm literally looking at you. I'm in Keezy's seat, which means my back is to the window, as you were, and you're facing the window. But we definitely want people to come along and say g'day, and I tell you what, we've got backbone teas to give away. We give away actually a lot of stuff that we can't say on air. 100%. Or we can say there might be food and beverage vouchers available.

29:52Correct. To people that come along.

29:54Keyzie:So call up your mates, get along there so we don't look like idiots. Thursday, 21st of August, Parrot Dog Brewery in Wellington and Lyle Bay. We want to see you there. Beautiful.

30:05Jase:The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy.

30:11Keyzie:Link in Park there on the radio, Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon. Sorry, the what? Oh, sorry, Big Joe. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. My bad. No, it's all good. And in preparation for the fellas coming home on Monday and being part of the show again, we're going to delve back into the archives and remind you how we used to sound. That's right. And this was back in the day when you had a lot of experiences to share. Now you're a real, real-life guy. You're taking it day by day, Jase. You're welch-schmearsing all over the place. and this was from a brief stint that you had in the diving world.

30:47Keyzie:One of the things I did watch over the weekend was a great doco on the old Netflix there.

30:51Jase:Doco is short for documentary teaser, you won't know that. Yeah, documentary. Yeah.

30:55Keyzie:Which is kind of real life stuff. That's sort of a showbiz term. Yeah. Right. So much to learn. Actually, just on that front, I might have some work for you on the doco front. Oh, cool. We'll chat about that another time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Definitely we will. But it was called The Deepest Breath, Mogi. and boy it took me back mate it was all about free divers diving to keep the deepest dive the world record and jeez it took me back to when you and I were in that competition years and years ago you guys did free diving you know a lot of people think that my lungs are rooted because of the million durries that I've smoked but actually that's not the case it's because of all the deep diving that I did hang on was it free diving when you did it or was it called nose diving free diving Kesey Free diving.

31:42Keyzie:Right. Just double checking if they're rebranded or anything. And often what happens, as you can attest to, Moggy, is the old blood vessels in the lungs would explode because, you know, we were getting down to 100 metres, 150 metres. Yeah, yeah.

31:56Jase:Yeah, it'd be burning up. Well, initially we sailed a course, didn't we? We were diving for pearls. Yes. So you go down to the seabed there and you just go along and you'd just be stealing all these pearls off the bottom of the ocean there. From the clouds? And there. Yeah. So that was a good time. Then it worked out there's a competition. You could actually make some money doing the drives to it that way. So, yeah, it was tickety-boo. Wow.

32:17Keyzie:108 metres. 108 metres, Keezy. Far out. Yeah, yeah.

32:20Jase:Without a – well, obviously, you've got your natural snorkel. Did you have your – The big – On the big blue.

32:26Keyzie:Oh, right. It was called the big blue. And were you allowed flippers? Well, you could have flippers. I chose not to. Yeah.

32:31Jase:Joseph was sort of the depth specialist, whereas I went for the duration. It was more about duration for me, Keezy. Yeah. and I got up to, I think, prior to that, I think that the record now is 24 minutes, 30 seconds or something like that. 24 minutes, 30 seconds. But I did 45 minutes and 8 seconds. Wow. Yeah. That's really impressive. Yeah, thanks, man. I've always wanted to have a go at...

32:57Jase:I've always wanted to have a go at free diving. A diving, yeah. A diving, at least, because, you know, you go, what's the name? The trouble is, man, they're very particular about the rules. there's a lot of stringent rules and I think and this isn't I'm not being silly or anything but given the size of your honker yeah oh you're not being silly honestly man the amount of oxygen what do you mean well you've got to each nostril is about the size of a scuba tank yeah there'd be like

33:21Keyzie:two air balloons on the side there you know just filling up so what they wouldn't let me free dive nah but they let you two do it I'll be honest I'll be honest with you you'd get so much air up that's noz Keezy I don't think you'd get underwater you know what I mean you'd just be floating the whole time.

33:37Jase:People have started thinking you're drowned or something face down in the water there, mate. It'd be no good.

33:41Keyzie:Exactly.

33:42Jase:Right, okay, we need to stop this whole night. And also,

33:45Keyzie:you know, you need to get a nose peg made and that'd have to be specialised for you, I think. God, we went through a real period of snozz chat, didn't we? That was around about the time. So I picked the best bits today based on the exact date that it is. So today's, what, the 7th of August. But the first, oh, this one is two years ago, 2023, and then the one that we'll do after six is this day, the day before, ah, the year before. Right. But this was exactly around the time that we were like, okay, we need to actually, like, bring this nose chat to an end of measurement. So good. So good. Is this the dudes?

34:24Sure is the dudes.

34:28Jase:The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

34:34Keyzie:Welcome back, Immersive Backbones. Hope you're surviving your Thursday night. You're listening to the Radio Hodaki Big Show, brought to you by Reburger. Beef, chicken, vegan, vegetarian options. Reburger, redefining the norm. It's da bomb. It is da bomb. You know what I was thinking today is that I obviously like to get a bit of takeaway food on the weekend, particularly after a busy night, as you would say, responsibly. And I'm kind of feeling the Reburger vibe, man. What do you think about that? Absolutely. It's perfect for that sort of scenario, Pug-san. Yeah? You know, a few cold beersies maybe, responsibly, as you said.

35:11Keyzie:Right, right. A bit of Ree burger. It is the bee's knees. That's almost like the perfect combination. It is a great takeaway food. Like, it's just so gourmet. It's so delicious. I haven't had it in quite a while now, actually. I'm due for some more. You're going to pay for it, though? Are you going to use free vouchers? Well, obviously I'm going to use the free vouchers, man. No, you're going to steal some vouchers, aren't you? Well, 100%. What's the point in promoting it if I can't steal a voucher? Well, can I have a voucher? I get them all the time and I pay for it. No.

35:42Jase:It's Green Day. The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy.

35:48Keyzie:Talking heads there on the radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday night. Now, Bear Vana is approaching New Zealand. And with that in mind... We're off to find the brewery of the day What have you got for us, Pugsan? You know what we noticed the other day is that since we started doing Brewery of the Day, Hero of the Day by Metallica has popped back up on our station a lot more. Right. It's quite clever. It's quite clever marketing for Beovana, Jase. Is it? I think so. I mean, I didn't notice it. Well, you don't listen to the station. You listen to classical music on your phonogram at home. That's not inaccurate.

36:37Keyzie:Yeah. But anyway, what are you going for? What's the brewery of the day? It's Fortune Favors, man. Why are we here? Why are any of us here? It's to make our mark. Big, small, good, great. That's what Fortune Favors are striving to do. They're handcrafted, they're self-made, and they're on a mish to share our love for great beer. and they're going to be at Bear Vana as well, amongst all the other incredible brewers that you'll hear from us doing Brewery of the Day in the lead-up to Bear Vana. Yeah, how many – I don't imagine you can remember off the top of your head, but there's quite a few there.

37:09Yeah, I think there's 60. 60, yeah. 60 different, at least with over 300 beers on offer for you to try.

37:18Keyzie:And just to point out to the audience, that doesn't mean that you have to go and have 300 beers. Oh, it doesn't? I mean, you can have a little sip of a beer, for example. They have little samplers and stuff like that. That's right. I mean, let's be honest, some of the beers can get pretty wacky. That's right. Our first year at Bearvana that we did the live show there, we had a shot of chilli beer. Yes. And what we did was they did shot roulette, responsibly, of course, and one of the shots of chilli beer was like doubly hot. But I had a word with the bartenders before we did it, and I said, can you make sure that you point out which one it is and we'll leave that one for Keezy.

37:54Right, yeah, because he's a bit of a wuss when it comes to Chile.

37:57Keyzie:I mean, he talks a big game. A hundred percent. But under the gun, he's pathetic. That's exactly right. And then I felt bad because he got nailed by it. So I was like, I'll do the same one. Just in solidarity to suffer with you, I'll have one as well. And it took me out for like a good hour. Like I was just choking away there. But that's just one example. There's a whole heap of great breweries on offer at Bear Vanna, 22nd and 23rd of August at Sky Stadium in the concourse there. You can get tickets now from beervana.co.nz. Get amongst New Zealand.

38:29Jase:The Hauraki Big Show Podcast.

38:31Keyzie:Welcome back to the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Thursday afternoon. Pirate Stagnetti's Revenge, by the way, is another film recommendation for you, Park Sun. Yeah, well, they're really flying in on 343. Keep them coming. Somebody texted in, what was it, Rocco's Reverse? And I Googled it on the work computer. My bad. Jase, I kind of have to come clean about something with you. and it's not a major. It's not a major. I just feel like - Oh, I'll be the judge of that. Thanks, Pugs. This is just like a safe space for me and so I feel like I should be able to talk to you. Wow. I had some granola for breakfast this morning with my lovely partner and it was delightful.

39:08We had some chia seeds on there, man, a bit of banana, a bit of peanut butter, some honey. It was lovely, but it was granola, so it didn't really fill the void. So after I dropped my partner to work, I went home to get ready, go to the gym, whatever, get ready for the day. And I was still really hungry, and I was like, you know what, I need some protein. And so I ate a tin of baked beans, and I've been fighting for my life here in the studio for the last two hours. For your sake, I just needed to know that. So Big Dilly was actually being honest when I popped out

39:44Keyzie:and said that you were ripping ass in the studio. I don't know what he's talking about. I keep my ass ripping outside of the sacred space. Can I just say of deeper concern to me here, is not only Tofu Boy really taking off, now Granola Boy is going to be added to the mix. I like that I literally brought this up to come clean about ripping ass because of the baked beans that I ate, but you're making it about the granola? What's wrong with granola? Tofu and Granola Boy, Pug-o-san.

40:19Jase:Yeah, nice. The Hauraki Big Show Podcast.

40:23Keyzie:The Rolling Stones there on this moist Thursday evening. Now, every now and then in our shows, we've been digging into the archives, haven't we, Pugs? What have you got for us today, mate? Something that was a huge hobby of yours in years past, Jase, that you don't really touch on so much anymore, but your stock car days. Oh, yes. You were a real motorhead. Definitely, man. I was a grease monkey. You can't say that, man. Can't I? No. You know this about me, Mike, anyway. I'm a real stock car enthusiast. Yeah. Like Speedway. Yeah, Speedway. Obviously, Gizzi. So I spent the weekend working on my stock car.

41:06Keyzie:Oh, sweet. Yeah, yeah, man. Well, I guess you'd call it my passion project. Yeah. My great love. There's nothing I like more, Mike, than going out into my garage and tinkering around with my stock car.

41:18Jase:Yeah, it was amazing. One of the things that I was impressed to learn about you was that you're a massive grease monkey. Yeah, man. Yeah. Yeah. Check the nails out, mate. Oh, filthy. I mean, disgusting. Yeah. So what kind of stock car? Are we talking sprint cars or midgets or what's the deal?

41:36Keyzie:Sprint car. Oh, it's a sprint car? Yeah, yeah.

41:39Jase:Right. So that's like the top of the top.

41:41Keyzie:Oh, yeah, mate. The best of the best. I don't muck around with stock cars, Kesey. I go straight to the top. Sprint cars, mate. Right, okay. How long have you been doing that? I mean, as a young fella, I remember just, you know, my dad taking me to the track all the time, and I guess that's where my passion started with the old sprint cars.

41:58Jase:Yeah, yeah, because, yeah, I guess that was where we first met, wasn't it? It was in Palmerston North, actually, at the speedway there. Yeah, yeah. And, yeah, of course, I was running the motorbike with the sidecar operation there.

42:11Keyzie:Yeah, I remember that. I ran the speedway track. Oh, my God.

42:15Jase:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Really? Have you not seen that before, Keezy? Oh yeah, standing That was part and parcel thereof And of course I had my mate in the sidecar There old Cyril He was a bloody, he was an absolute campaigner He actually got me into it, mate of the old man And unfortunately he came off Went under your stock car And he got crushed to death And I was like, Jase, you owe me man You owe me So Jase got on the old sidecar And we won the Nationals that day, didn't we man? Yeah, yeah, we did. Yeah, yeah.

42:49Keyzie:Far out. And I won the sprint car. Yeah. So you guys are full-blown petrol heads then? Oh, massively. Right. I mean, I bleed petrol, Casey. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

42:57Jase:I've got oil coming out of my bum. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think that's a symptom of that. So, I mean, what kind of engine, for example, you got in your sprint car there? A very fast one, Casey.

43:09Keyzie:I can tell you that much.

43:11Jase:It's a big one. Oh, yeah? It's a massive engine. You can barely fit it underneath the old hood flap.

43:15Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, totally, mate. because it wasn't really about the engine so much this weekend. I was just giving her a bit of a spruce up.

43:21Jase:Yeah. You're sprucing up, okay.

43:22Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, a bit of a repaint. Yeah. And I've got that lovely glitter paint that you can find. It sparkles in the sun. Well, I was actually looking at my daughter doing her nails and I thought, actually, that'll look good on the stock car. Yeah. So I painted a sort of similar shiny, purpley, pinky sort of car. Right. It's good. Yeah. Bit of suspension work, obviously. Yeah. The suspension there, she's pretty bouncy, the old super. Boing, boing, boing. What size tyres you got on it? Oh, bloody big tyres, Keezy. I can tell you that much, mate. Just the size, yeah.

43:50Jase:You've got to be careful, though. One thing I'm sort of not a fan of when you're doing the old stockies there is it gets a bit dusty. Yeah. It gets a bit dusty. Yeah, yeah. And that's annoying. And a bit loud, really? Yep. It's a bit loud.

44:04Keyzie:Well, that's why I always take my feather duster to the actual meets, Mike. You know what I mean? Because there's dirt and dust here, and I get a little white. I want people to see the paint job. You feather dust your car. Do you mind?

44:18Jase:You're kicking dust up all over me paint.

44:21Keyzie:You know, when you go around the corner and it's like, and they just throw up all that dirt, I'm furiously dusting away there, you know, getting through it.

44:31Jase:I'll tell you what, who does an incredible impression of a stock car? Dolke. Isn't it Jay? Isn't it Keese?

44:37Keyzie:Yeah, quick, Keese. Oh, God. That was so good. It was like I was back at the track. Oh, it is true though. It's a filthy sport. Do you think you'll ever get back into it, man? I still do it all the time. Really? Yeah, I just... That was probably one of the last times you spoke about it and that was in 2023. Well, I'm not one of those people, Pagsane, that likes to bang on about all the stuff he's doing in his life. Aren't you? Nah.

45:06Jase:The Hauraki Big Show with Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy.

45:21Keyzie:Yeah. Yeah. I tell you what, actually, Pugs, I'm quite seriously, I'm knackered today. I feel really tired. Yeah. You can kind of hear it. Yeah, well, I... Just in your quality of broadcasting and that, you know? You all good, man? Jase. The old tune on old Pugs, boy, oh, boy, I'm going to have a word with the fiales when they get back. I can tell you that much. Yeah, nice. Now, in the podcast outro today, we were all in a weird kind of frame of mind because the place is empty. I turn up. Pugs is there. He's down in the dumps. Hang on. He's just moping around like a sad ass. Like a sass. And I was like, you know, it wasn't our best podcast, but it wasn't our worst.

46:08Keyzie:What's the clip today, Pugs? It was the podcast of all time, and the clip is called Lack of Sushi. Well, I mean, I see you fellas hugging and kissing all the time and it's like, seems like the sort of stuff you do for each other. For a maid in distress. Old Pugsarm there with his lack of half-priced sushi. He's freaking out, man. And I need him on, I need him firing for the show here, big girl. We've got a big show today. Yeah, well, that was all about Pugsarm wanted to buy half-priced sushi and then he realised he had no money. and I said, hey, Pugsan, mate, come on. Get old hoity J, buy you some.

46:46Keyzie:And then you packed a sad and sort of stormed out. I didn't pack a sad. You're probably just the last kind of dude that I want to owe money to or, like, feel like I owe anything. It was for free, Pugs. Nah, nah, nah, nah. That's how it starts with you, Jase. I'm a very generous person. But you're very protective of your dog squad money. Yeah, true. You're very tired about it. Hey, now listen, make sure you check out the Instagram. Make sure you check out the podcast. Till tomorrow, our final day together, Pugsaw. And the Friday Throbber. Yeah. We'll see you then. Bye.
