0:00Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show. Thanks to crave-worthy street food. Freshly made with Reburger.

0:09Keyzie:Welcome to the Hauraki Big Show. With Jason Hoyte, Mike Minogue and Keyzie. Oh, g'day you mad bastards. Great to have your company this Monday afternoon. It is the 7th of September, 2026. And you, my friends, as always, listening to The Big Show, brought to you by Reburger.

0:30Mike Minogue:Craveworthy street food freshly made with Reburger.

0:39Keyzie:What a weekend day, fellas. What a stallion across the desk from me. Old Mogey, how's life? Going pretty grousy, you mad dog, you sick son of a bee. What a hell of a weekend it was. There was a hell of a lot on, not least of all Father's Day, Jase. Yes. Big care car to you for all the service you've done in that area. You've been hard at work for many a decade. Child after child after child after child. It's not easy. Thanks, mate. You get up and you do it day in, day out. Keezy, of course, brother. You're not quite there yet, man. One on the way, though. Little birdie tells me. Tweeting on the shoulder.

1:21This time next year, you'll be in the cool club. With old Mogi and Hoody J, man. How you doing, brother?

1:26Mike Minogue:Yeah, good. Still not pregnant. So don't know what you guys are talking about. Jase, it would have been a hell of a weekend if you were pregnant. Hey? What's up, fellas? Hey? Yeah, because you were having... Guys, I'm hungover still, all right? So if we could just have a chill one, is that like a thing we do? Like a big Monday chill? Come on, Keezy, man. We've got to get the weekend off to rip-roar and start. Yeah, totally, man. You're just going to have to fake it, man, for three minutes at a time. How are you feeling?

1:50Keyzie:Yeah, good. Backbone. Backbone. My wife. How about you, Jase? Yeah, good, thanks. Can't complain. Bit weekend, as Mokey said, Father's Day yesterday. And no, bloody good. I can't complain at all. Really stoked to be back at work, though, on a Monday afternoon, you know, talking to all the backbones out there.

2:09Mike Minogue:Bloody oath. We've got a good show coming up as well, fellas.

2:15What's happening on The Big Show with old Mokey? Another day, another opportunity to get yourself into the draw for Would You Rather. It's Wazzle Cars, Keezy. Wazzle cars, man. Yeah, you talk about Grand Final or Bathurst. That's right. Listen out for the cue to call later in the show and get yourself in the draw to win one of those incredible prizes. Yeah, feels. Also, over the weekend, I went out to the Warriors there and I did my first ever commentary of a Warriors game. Yeah, man. Jeez, it was exciting stuff. We'll get into that after 5 o 'clock. And coming up next, Jase, you and I are going to dissect our Father's Day a little bit.

2:48Yes, judge, if you will. Yes, Keezy had a shocker from the sounds of it. Yeah, because he isn't a father yet, but he is a son. You know what I'm saying? He is a son. From the sounds of things, he could have done better.

3:00Mike Minogue:You can always do better, fellas, but as long as you're doing your best, your very best at the time. At the time. With what you've got, that's all G.

3:08Keyzie:Here's French Firm, man.

3:09Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.

3:14Keyzie:Radiohead there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Monday afternoon. The time is 14 minutes past four o 'clock and a massive day yesterday for a lot of fathers out there, Mogi. Old Father's Day. It's a good name for it, isn't it? Yeah, it is. Father's Day. Yes. Doesn't leave anything to the imagination there. It's all about fathers. It is. I'm surprised that they don't have songs. You know, theme songs. They have it for Christmas and that. Nothing for Father's Day, Keezy.

3:41Mike Minogue:Yeah, it's true. I mean, you could play like Father and Son or something. Yeah, but that sort of rules out all the daughters. That's a bit sexist, Keezy. You can't do that, man. You know, that's a good point. That's a shocker to hear from you. It's a good day for me, man. I woke up. Wow, that is a good day. That was a good day. Any day above ground, Keezy, that's what they say. Any day above ground, brother, that's a good day, all right? Yep. Bloody Uggs. I don't know about you, Hoody J, but I still put my boots on one at a time. All right. Yeah, Ugg boots. Anyway, so I sort of wake up in the morning.

4:10My wife's already gotten up out of bed. I'm thinking to myself, you beauty, here comes a cup of coffee and a croissant. There I can hear my daughter playing with my sister-in-law and my mother-in-law, who are there for the weekend. Anyway, I'm lying there for about two and a half hours, and I think to myself, you know what? I'll just get up. Yes. And I go out there into the lounge there, and they started watching a replay of the rugby. I was like, oh, is this on? Are you kidding? No. Far out. I was like, is this on already? I was like, oh, I thought you'd have a sleep in. It's like, I've been awake for hours.

4:41Just thought you guys would bring me in a coffee and that. All good, all good. Anyway, they paused it reluctantly and got me my presents, which was nice. It was a card. And inside, my wife does a really good job, and my daughter. They do a card with a really nice message in it. And then sort of some vouchers, some vouchery type things. And one was for a 12-week parenting course just for me. Oh, wow. Oh, that's – And had they made that or was it like a real voucher? It was a real voucher. Oh, for real. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I've got to start. I mean, I've not got to. I get to start that course next week.

5:21Oh, that's great. How good. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

5:23Keyzie:How many nights a week is that? Five. Oh, yeah. So I go home from this, and that's three hours. Just online, though, so it's easier. Oh, that's good. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

5:31Mike Minogue:Seven years in, about time. Yeah, nice. So that's really good. So I was really happy to have that. But what sort of let it down a little bit was my daughter. She decided to get sick yesterday. Yeah, classic. Yeah, had a flu. Well, hang on. Coughing all over me and all that. She didn't decide to. I mean, sickness by chance, you know what I mean? It's not a... It's all about them for kids, isn't it? I'll put it to you this way, Keezy. It's a hell of a coincidence, man. Yeah. So hang on. No, it is a coincidence. You're suggesting that she intentionally got sick to take the kids. Keezy, how many kids have you got?

6:05Mike Minogue:Zero. Thank you. Thank you.

6:11Keyzie:How was your father's day, Jase? Well, I was about to get into it, but then you just very, very rudely pressed play on Soundgarden.

6:22Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

6:28Keyzie:The Hives there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Monday afternoon. The time, 25 minutes past four o 'clock. We're talking Father's Day. I don't know if you fellas know this, but I've been a father for a while now. That's so true, man. I reckon you were born a father. Yeah. You just got that vibe about you, you know? Yeah, the sort of kind of authority figure. Yes. The leader. Yeah, that's what a father is, eh?

6:56Mike Minogue:Yeah.

6:56Keyzie:But, you know, you'll find, Mogi, as the years go on, of course, you know, Father's Day evolves. Right. I've got so much to learn from you. Oh, look, any time you want to suckle upon the buzzy of Hoody J, you're most welcome to tuck in there. I appreciate that, man.

7:14Mike Minogue:Is that like knowledge-wise?

7:15Keyzie:Well, yes. He can make it whatever he wants, Keezy. So I woke up, crack a dawn there, and rolled over for a nice little morning spoon. Then I was like, oh, hang a bit. What's going on here? Yeah. My wife's not there. She's gone. Oh, what? And I'm like, oh, she must be out like you. Yes. Out there making me morning coffee there and maybe, you know, some hot toast or something like that.

7:48Mike Minogue:Some hot toast. Hot toast is the best. Have you tried that, Keezy? Well, yeah, on a special occasion. Yeah, hot toast. It is a special occasion.

7:55Keyzie:Because it's Father's Day. You're not listening. Come on, man. Pull yourself together, Keezy. I'm trying. So I go out to the kitchen because I can't hear anything. And I'm going, oh, that's weird. Yes. And my phone's plugged in the kitchen out there. and I go on my phone. I've got a message from my wife just meeting her mate for breakfast. Oh, right.

8:15Mike Minogue:Oh, wow, that sucks on Father's Day. And I was like, oh, okay.

8:19Keyzie:And I was like, oh, I didn't realise you were doing that. She said, I told you. Oh, wow. And I went, oh, okay. So I went to make myself a coffee, stove top there, Mogey, as I do. Do you bet it? No coffee. No coffee there. No coffee at all. And I'm like. Is there anything worse? Is there any?

8:41Mike Minogue:No, there's not. When you go to use the hand soap dispenser and there's no soap in it. Not even close. Not even on the same planet, Keezy. It's different worlds. It's worlds apart. Pull yourself together, Keezy. I'm trying. I'm having a crack. And I'm like effing and jeffing.

9:00Keyzie:Rightfully so. So I have to go and walk to the supermarket, don't I? And I'm halfway to the supermarket. Starts pissing with rain. Did I take my umbrella? No, because my wife had it. So I get drenched in rain.

9:16Mike Minogue:Yeah, drenched in rain.

9:19Keyzie:Are you listening? Come on, man.

9:21Mike Minogue:What is up with you today?

9:26Keyzie:Get to the supermarket, get all the stuff I need, and get home. Which was just coffee, wasn't it? Yeah, it was just coffee. And an umbrella. I did buy another umbrella. We need two, clearly. Get home, make myself a coffee, and then I'm sitting on the couch going, oh.

9:47Mike Minogue:Were you twiddling your thumbs?

9:48Keyzie:Oh, a little bit. I was doing the thing I do where I had my hands clasped behind my back, and I was just looking out the window out in the street there and the violence and chaos and pissing rain. And then it was about mid-morning. I get another message from my wife. hey, we've decided to go to X and X. And I went, oh, okay. Or G. Without making a day of it. Yeah, well, since they got together, you know, and I was like, oh, no, that's all cool. Any chance I could tag along, did you ask? Oh, no, I didn't want to get in the way. You know what I mean? It wasn't about me, Moogie.

10:27Mike Minogue:Yeah, right. It's just because it's Father's Day, Jason.

10:29Keyzie:Well, I know, I know, but I don't want to make a big deal about a Keezy.

10:32Mike Minogue:Yeah, true.

10:34Keyzie:So then it was 12 o 'clock, 1 o 'clock. My youngest daughter's still at home. Yeah, right. What's she doing? She's asleep. Gets up at about 1, comes out, and I'm like, good morning. Oh, no, good afternoon, youngster. How are you going this fine day? What did she say? She went, oh, whatever, Dad. Right. And then she went and had a shower. Yeah. And then she got changed and came out and I was like, so what are you up to today then, eh? And she said, I'm just going to meet my boyfriend in town. And I was like, oh, okay.

11:13Mike Minogue:Did you ask to tag along? Come on, man. Do you know how uncool that would be, Keezy?

11:19Keyzie:I've never been so close to slapping you.

11:23Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki. One simple question. One weekend of a lifetime. Would you rather?

11:37Keyzie:Yes, indeed, Wazel Cars. It's up to you, New Zealand. Both amazing prizes. So it's your call, really.

11:48Mike Minogue:Certainly is, Jase. Bathurst or the grand final, NRL, both are put on by boys' trip, which means everything's taken care of. Your flight's taken care of, your accommodation. If you go to Bathurst, you've got shuttles to and from the racetrack for both Saturday and Sunday. And if you choose the grand final, you've got a day at the Renwick races the day before where you'll peak way too early. Yeah, carry on. No, you guys just take over. No, that's good. That's good, Keezy. Do this great stuff.

12:16Keyzie:Well, it's an amazing prize either way, whichever direction you go in. It doesn't matter which way you go. No, Tony, let's go to the phone lines. G'day, Lisa. How's life? Lisa?

Got the victory in the end, but a few issues going into finals there, Lisa, don't you reckon? Holy heck. We'll see. Well, I'm picking, Lisa.

13:07Keyzie:You're going to opt for the WARS there, or the NRL grand final. Yes? Opt the WARS grand final 100%. Yeah, good on you, mate. Lock it in. Stay on the line there, Lisa, and old Pugsam will look after you. Let's go to Dave. G'day, Dave, you mad bastard. How's life?

13:26Keyzie:You sound like you had a massive weekend, Dave.

13:30Mike Minogue:No, I had a quiet weekend with my kids over the weekend, mate. Oh, big one. Yeah, good on, Dave. My boys' final football game of the season on Saturday. How did he go? Yeah, so much fun, man. Did he win? No. A lot of times they say it doesn't matter if he won or not. It's whether he had fun. But that's rubbish, isn't it? Absolute rubbish, yeah. Super competitive even at nine years old.

13:54Keyzie:Yeah, victory's the only way, man. Totally. Tell me, Dave, what do you do for a crust?

14:00Mike Minogue:I work in a niche field, mate, legal metrology. So we make sure petrol pumps and weigh bridges and all sorts of weighing and measuring equipment are, yeah, accurate. Spot on, accurate. As if we didn't know that, man.

14:17Keyzie:You didn't have to explain it so much, Dave. Yeah, we know all about it. We're not deer brains.

14:23Mike Minogue:Murderology. Yeah, no, that was man-slaying, bro. No, that's all good, mate.

14:28Keyzie:What are you looking at? The NRL grand final or Bathurst?

14:32Mike Minogue:Massively torn, man, because I know the wives are going to be in the final. Yes. But I'm going to go with Bathurst, please. Yeah, okay.

14:39Keyzie:Yeah, like it, like it. Stay on the line, old pugs. We'll take care of you, mate. Cheers, guys. Thanks, mate.

14:45Mike Minogue:It's not easy, is it? It's not easy. No. Big decision. I mean, it's not for me. What would you choose? Bathurst?

14:52Keyzie:No, there was, man. Kesey.

14:55Mike Minogue:Did you watch the game?

14:56Keyzie:Yeah.

14:58Mike Minogue:I did watch the game. Who did we play?

15:01Keyzie:Who did we play? I can't even remember. But we did win by one point. It was messy. I know you saw the score. Oh, Manly, wasn't it? Yeah, Manly. Yeah, yeah. This guy gets it. I just couldn't remember, you know. Sorry for doubting you, Josh. It was like Friday, wasn't it? It was bloody days ago, Kesey. Kesey remembers it really clearly because he was away on his boys' trip. What was the score at half-time, Kesey? Kesey.

15:24Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.

15:29Keyzie:Yes, indeed. You two there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Monday afternoon. The time is exactly ten minutes to five o 'clock. Let's talk TV. What's on the telly with Mike Minogue?

15:48Yes. Yeah. That's right. I'm still watching Alone, fellas. That's all I've got. That's all I've got. I have the end of season one tonight to talk about tomorrow, so you're just going to have to bear with me, all right? Alone. There's no point haranguing me about what I've been watching because I haven't been watching anything except for that one show.

16:10Keyzie:Okay. Today on Samsung TV, I watched the Darjeeling Limited. Darjeeling Limited. Darjeeling. The Darjeeling. With Owen Wilson, Adrian Brophy, and Jason Swartzman. The plot follows three Australian brothers who agree to meet in India a year after their father's funeral for a spiritual journey aboard a luxury train. That's right. Directed by Wes Anderson. Anderson, yes. Pretty funny. Pretty funny. Good chemistry. between the three of those actors there. And it's just one of those sort of ludicrous kind of films. And it would be very good fun filming it, I imagine. Yes. I think the fellas had a bloody good time.

16:58Keyzie:I mean, it's silly, it's stupid, and I enjoyed it a lot. I'll give it a solid three buzies out of five. Wow.

17:06Mike Minogue:The Darjeeling Limited. The Darjeeling Limited. And that's available randomly on Samsung TV if you switch over at the right time. Yes. I actually go so far as to say that's probably his last good film. Yes. Who's that? Wes Anderson. Wow, huge, cool. The director. Bottle Rocket, Keezy, then Rushmore in 1998. The Royal Tenenbaums with Gene Hackman. Great film. Great actor. The Life Aquatic with Steve Zuzu. I've always wanted to watch that. Is that not very good? The Life Aquatic? Yeah. Yeah, it's great. Oh, it is good, yeah. And then the Darjeeling Limited. And after that, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, Grand Budapest.

17:40Oh, Grand Budapest Hotel is good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

17:44Keyzie:It's a good movie. It's fun. Fantastic Mr. Fox. Your wife would like it. Oh, yeah, that's good to know.

17:50Mike Minogue:Fantastic Mr. Fox is weird, but had cool animations. It did, yeah. It was a bit weird for me, though. Yeah, a bit weird. Fellas, yesterday I had a five-hour nap, and somewhere in there I remember watching an episode of Country Calendar.

18:05Keyzie:Within the five-hour nap?

18:06Mike Minogue:Yeah, I was sort of in and out of sort of lucidity, if that's what it's called, and you just sort of come to, and my wife's watching Country Calendar, and then back to sleep, and then you wake up again to find out how they diversified the farm to just help with income and that. Really good. Cherries? Any cherries? No, no cherries. No, it wasn't cherries. It was like how they're making a new thing for building using wool from sheep or something. I can't remember. Four buzzies out of five, though. TVNZ, Country Calendar, it's called. You don't know what season or what episode, do you? Country Calendar.

18:36Keyzie:You don't even know if you were conscious or if you dreamt it. Yeah, that's right. Or you're in some sort of delirium.

18:42Mike Minogue:That's correct, 100%. Highly recommend, though, fellas. Check it out.

18:47Keyzie:Here's Pluto.

19:06Mike Minogue:Handcrafted burgers, loaded fries, and gourmet eats that will change the game. I can't believe it. It's street food, but it's so unbelievably crave-worthy.

19:18Keyzie:Yes, and they have beef, chicken, vegan and vegetarian options. Yummy. Yummy.

19:29Keyzie:I'll tell you what I'd like right now, fellas. A couple of those loaded fries in the studio. That'd be good, eh? For all of us. We'd be into that. That's very generous of you, Jase. Yeah. Geez, I could learn so much from you. We'll get Pugs-Arm to maybe Uber Eats us some loaded fries. Just put it on the company credit card.

19:51Mike Minogue:Have you noticed that he's being really picky with the company credit card? Yeah. Like it's almost like there's no difference. Huh? Anal. Loaded fries?

20:02Keyzie:What are you talking about? He's being very anal with the credit card.

20:09Mike Minogue:Yeah, he's been really picky with the credit card.

20:12Keyzie:Picky, I prefer. Picky. Picky. Right, I prefer anal. Just in the sense of, you know, he's been very, well, I suppose picky.

20:28Keyzie:Jeez.

20:32Mike Minogue:Yeah, he's been picky. It's a tune of phrase, fellas.

20:35Keyzie:Come on. What is picky?

20:36Mike Minogue:What is?

20:37Keyzie:Haki.

20:37Mike Minogue:Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

20:41Keyzie:Here's Kings of Leon.

20:43Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Kesey. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

20:49Keyzie:Yes, indeed. Tool there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Monday afternoon. The time is 15 minutes past five o 'clock. Fellas, what a weekend it was. We haven't even touched on this, but the Warriors played. Yes, man. We haven't even mentioned it. No. Normally we'd have Charlie Gubbin, wouldn't we, on a Monday, but he said he's got a flu. Come on. Come on, man. He was up here all weekend. Yeah, yeah. He was shocking. The flu. The flu. Good on you, Gabby. Fellas, I was lucky enough to be invited. When I say invited, I mean I forced my way in. Yes. To commentate my very first Warriors game. For Sky TV, you might ask?

21:25No. For the ACC? No. Also no. For a website, I think, that bases itself out of the United Kingdom. Yes. Yes. Yes. So I was lucky enough to do it with the guys from the podcast This Warrior's Life. If you're not listening to it, give that a run. She's an absolute ripper. And we went along there. And what a treat it is to be given. You go along there to Lily World, which is the bar next door.

21:51Mike Minogue:Inside the stadium grounds, by the way. Yeah. So you're at this bar. You walk through a gate. They check your ticket. You can carry your beer through. It's unbelievable. It's great. It's brilliant. So you go there. You have, like, what, five or six jugs. Responsibly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then you head over and you get a lift up to the commentary booth there. And what a view. Straight outside the window there was corporate boxes. And they started handing out prawn cutlets. Oh, yum. Tuna. Yes. Bloody, like, proper, proper. Really good stuff. Whole bunch of booze out of their fridge there. Yeah, of course.

22:26Because technically you're not allowed to drink in the commentary boxes. So they were passing up. Started to get a little bit hazy, to be honest with you. But yeah, we did the commentary and I think it went great guns.

22:37Mike Minogue:All right, well, we've actually got a clip of some commentary if you'd like to hear that, fellas. Yeah, for sure.

22:41Keyzie:I'm not sure if Warren's actually going to make his way down to the sheds. He might be, so he's pretty invested in those puzzle pages in the paper. Interesting you should say that, Will. I was just making my way back from the urinal. There's a lot of stairs there, but I managed to do it relatively quickly and as I bailed back up the stairs in a panic to get back here for this unbelievable halftime show with RugbyLeague.com, I made a wrong turn, collided with the entire Manly Seagulls coaching staff, there was about 11 of them, you can imagine how happy they were to crash into somebody, huffing and panting wearing a Warriors jersey with about 150ml of urine sprayed down the front of his jeans.

23:39Mike Minogue:It's professional stuff. Yes. Well, it's a different sort of thing to what you're used to, Kesey. This is a proper rugby league website and they expect a certain level of professionalism. We went off the rails a little bit earlier on when we were bagging Turbo Travojevic there for being injury prone, and they told us to rope it in a bit. But I think all in all, I think it went pretty well. Yeah, because what you don't want to happen is, like, these guys to work really hard on this podcast and really build it up out of passion, then they feel like they have to bring old Mogi in, and then he gets really steamed in the commentary box, and then he has wheeze on him, and then Kieran Foran.

24:14Mike Minogue:The other thing you don't want them doing, which I've actually been sent audio for, is letting old Mogi into the press conference area after the game. Listen to this. The last couple of weeks have been pretty tense for me. You still have to pay the next week and just swap them past the footage. Give you a rest so it's not so intense. So it would make me feel really good. Okay, we'll do that for you. No worries, mate. So that was at the actual press conference after the game. Was that you, was it? Asking the question. They've got a few work-ons there out at Mount Smart, but I came out of the commentary box and I got a little bit way late.

24:51I got a bit lost trying to get out of there. It's a rabbit warren through there, Jason. I can imagine, mate. There's no signposts. There's nothing at all. Next thing you know, I found myself in that little area where they do the post-match presses. Yes. They had a little table there with some snacks and a few beers. So I was just hooking into the few beers there, and it took them quite a long time, actually, for the coaches to come out. Things got a little bit hazy from there, but I think I said to them, I found the last couple of weeks a little bit stressful in terms of the closeness of the games.

25:21Yes. So over the next couple of weeks, if you could just flog those bastards, I'd much appreciate it. And he said that he's going to do that for us. Yeah, that's great. Wow, 13 plus. He said he's going to do it. So, yeah. But I'm hoping that I'll get invited back to do the final next week by old RugbyLeague.com.

25:37Keyzie:I have no question or doubt that you will be. That was – you see, Kesey, I reckon –

25:42Mike Minogue:Don't what? What?

25:43Keyzie:I reckon you go and give that a listen to. No, because he's just then talking about having wheeze on his pants. That's like proper commentary as opposed to your sort of light entertainment sort of stuff. He talked about having wheeze on his pants the whole time and he was huffing and puffing. I was absolutely – I actually had to exit because I'd had a few beers. I don't know if I mentioned that. But as the commentary wore on, it became clear to me there was no way I was going to be able to make my way all the way down to the concourse and beat the crowds at halftime without wetting myself. so I had to duck out with about five minutes of the commentary to go and get down there a little bit early and then sprinted back up so I was pretty puffed.

26:23Mike Minogue:That's good stuff. Quite a professionalism that is. Have you ever heard of that happening before, man? Nah. Pugs, can you clip that off and just send it to me so I can listen to it over and over? Thanks, man.

26:34Keyzie:Here's Snow Patrol.

26:36Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

26:42Keyzie:Smashing Pumpkins there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Monday evening. The time is 5.27 and fellas, I've got a massive bone to pick.

26:58Keyzie:Just give me a little second here to compose myself a bit. I'm pretty fired up inside.

27:07Keyzie:following on from the heels of a brutal first scoring session and come dine with the fellas. You'll recall, Moggy, that Kesey, after my wife went to huge efforts to cook a beautiful meal for the fellas, Kesey gave her a six. I didn't give your wife a six.

27:28Mike Minogue:Kesey, please! I gave you a six.

27:31Keyzie:She was pretty upset by that. As she should have been. As she should have been Thank you, Moggy

27:38Mike Minogue:Yeah, cheers, Moggy

27:39Keyzie:Now, you'll recall in the last Come Dine With A Fellas Hoody J edition Yes I gave out some vouchers Oh, yes Very generous Took a lot of effort and organisation to do that Everyone had, you know, I had to do a lot of behind the scenes stuff Indeed And one of those particular vouchers was A Night of Hot Pot with me, Keezy Yes Now

28:03Mike Minogue:Great voucher

28:04Keyzie:My wife ended up getting that voucher.

28:07Mike Minogue:In fact, she stole a present so she could have it.

28:10Keyzie:So she could have it. And she was very much looking forward to it, having a night of hot pot with Keezy. Yeah, it's weird, eh? Now, on the Saturday night this past weekend, my wife messaged Keezy many times and said, you keen for this hot pot tomorrow? Yeah. I understand you're at a sausage fest. You'll probably need some spicy food tomorrow to pull you through.

28:36Mike Minogue:Sorry, I was at a barbecue. Just for those out of the way, I was at a barbecue on the Saturday. With 20 fowlers. Festival au Saucageurs. Yes.

28:44Keyzie:Festival au. Keezy, I guess, in high spirits or whatever, was like, absolutely lock it in. Did I say that on the Saturday? Yes, I can show you the messages. I don't remember.

28:56Mike Minogue:Yeah.

28:57Keyzie:And so my wife was like, oh, so Keezy's keen for tomorrow. And I went, oh, sweet. Good stuff. So then, because they'd organised it for 2 o 'clock tomorrow, yesterday afternoon, my wife went to the hot pot, pissing with rain outside, by the way, Mogi. She was like, oh, I didn't even. But no, I promised Keezy. So she promised me. Right, okay. So she goes to hot pot and is standing outside for about 10 or 15 minutes in the rain. Drenched. Why don't you go inside?

29:31Mike Minogue:Well, she was waiting for you.

29:32Keyzie:She's just under the awning there.

29:33Mike Minogue:Oh, okay.

29:34Keyzie:And she was, oh, well, he's probably running a bit late, was texting him and calling him and calling him and getting no answer. So she went, oh, I might as well get my food, and he'll probably arrive by the time it'll be ready. Yeah. So she ordered her food. What'd she get? And she said it was really full too. It was like really packed with a lot of people, and she kept having to shoo people away because it was like, oh, no, someone's sitting there. Someone's sitting there. I just have to keep that free if you don't mind. So she felt pretty – Saved, yeah. She felt pretty humiliated. She sat there 10, 15, 20, 30 minutes.

30:12Keyzie:Kept calling Kesey, called him four or five times. Where were you, Kesey?

30:17Mike Minogue:I was at home asleep. I also remember I was at a festival au sausage on the Saturday there, and I obviously had one too many sausages responsibly. Yes. So I don't actually remember this conversation on the Saturday, if I'm honest. Yeah. And then on the Sunday, I was in bed for five hours asleep. Jeez, you let yourself down here, haven't you? My wife. What? My wife. Has never had an experience like that.

30:49Keyzie:She has never been stood up. She felt embarrassed, angry, upset. Sad? Sad. She was looking forward to a afternoon of hot pot with Kesey. A little bit happy? A little bit happy, yeah. Came home, and it was Father's Day, you'll recall, yesterday. Oh, I forgot about that. I hadn't seen her all day because she'd been out with her other mates, remember? I do. She left before I even got up. She comes back finally for Father's Day in a hurr of a mood. Soaking wet. Soaking wet. Still had nice feed, but. I was spitting tacks about old Keezy. And then, you know, because I was like, oh, Father's Day. And she said, don't talk to me about Father's Day.

31:38Keyzie:Yeah.

31:39Mike Minogue:See that temper there, that's why I skipped out on the hot pot. Yeah.

31:43Keyzie:And now, because she got drenched yesterday, she's got a hur of a flu.

31:48Mike Minogue:Wait, so she gets wet and automatically gets the flu. Yes, Keezy. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

31:58Keyzie:Rage against the machine there on the Radio Hauraki big show this Monday evening. The time is 5.41.

32:05Mike Minogue:Fellas, last week, not last year, I don't know if you guys remember, but I had been auditioning for an ad. Oh, yes. Acting. Yes. Getting into acting. And it was going quite well. I got a call back, which meant I was one of the final five or something. I don't know. Yeah, shortlist. Shortlist, yeah, which is great. and then I went back and did the same sort of audition again, but this time with a funny wig on. And also with the director. And the director was there on a little webcam. And topless. Yeah, the director was topless. Anyway, so it was great. There's a lot of positive feedback I was getting and a lot of happy vibes, happy vibes, happy vibes.

32:45Mike Minogue:That was on Monday last week. It's now been a week exactly and I haven't heard anything. Wow. So, I mean, I'm not jumping to any conclusions, but I'm starting to think that maybe... Oh, you haven't got it. You don't reckon? All right.

33:03Keyzie:Absolutely. There's no way to know for sure. Generally, the way you find out is when you see it on TV. I thought your agent... And you say to yourself, hey, that looks like that ad I auditioned for. Yes. Oh, he got it. That looks like the ad I got shortlisted for. Yeah. Haven't heard back about that one.

33:22Mike Minogue:I must follow up on that. Guess I didn't get it. Right. I just thought the agent would tell me.

33:27Keyzie:Jase? No, he won't tell you. No, I haven't checked my emails, to be honest, Keezy.

33:32Mike Minogue:Wait, so you got me an audition and then heard from them via email that I had a callback and then you just haven't checked your inbox? Oftentimes that can be where the whole thing falls over. What, when the agent can't be bothered checking his emails? Well, I'm assuming Jase was very busy. Well, obviously. I was watching a bit of Samsung TV. So oftentimes the production company will come back and say, yep, love him. These are the fees. I like to lock it in, et cetera, et cetera. We shoot on, let's say. Wednesday. Wednesday. No answer. Quick turnaround. No answer, no answer, no answer. Oh, look, if you don't get back to us, we're going to have to go to the second person on the list.

34:12No answer, no answer, no answer. Second person on the list.

34:15Mike Minogue:You've missed out. You've blown it. Happens all the time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, it shouldn't, though. So often it's not the fault of the actor at all. Absolutely. Yeah. It's a brute of an industry. It's shocking, and there's nothing you can do to prepare for that. Well, hang on. That's just one of those things, as they say. Yes. It's just one of those things. You've got to go with the flow there, as they say. Sorry, hang on, hang on. You've got to take the bad with the good. Oh, and I'm all for taking the bad with the good. But I just, Jase, when - You've got to suck it hard. Yeah. I'm all for it.

34:47Keyzie:Yeah, yeah, yeah.

34:47Mike Minogue:Whatever needs to be done, I'll do it. But, Jase, when do you check your emails? Because the chances are there's an email in there saying, oh, Keezy was really good and we've cast him in this ad.

34:57Keyzie:Well, the problem that I have, I can't check them right now because I have two different emails, one for the agency and one for the work here. And I can't check my agency one while I'm here. Also, you can't really – I mean, you've got to be focused on what you're doing here. Exactly. The last thing this show needs is for me to be trawling through my emails going, oh, God, trying to find your rejection email.

35:23Mike Minogue:Can you do it during the day then? So if it's a rejection, that's fine because at least I know that I've been rejected. It's the not knowing that gets you, Kesey. You won't know that, but it's the not knowing. It's the not knowing that can get you because then, of course, you're telling your family and friends, I've got a call back, I think I've got it, talking it up. next thing you know that ad's on TV you're not on it and you've been absolutely humiliated again I don't know about again this will be the first time well can we okay well how about this I think you should just write them an email Jason and say Keezy's out because you can't handle the stress at all if you're going to open your emails then check the freaking email Keezy

36:02Keyzie:Keezy can I give you some advice here as a long time actor

36:05Mike Minogue:sure

36:05Keyzie:let it go mate

36:10Mike Minogue:Okay. Have you, in your guys' experience, how do you guys deal with not getting roles?

36:16Keyzie:I couldn't tell you.

36:19Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

37:49Keyzie:G'day, Mike, you mad bastard. How's life? Yeah, g'day, fellas. How we going? Yeah, good, thanks, mate. Good. What do you do for a crust, Mike? I'm a painter. Oh, yeah? Backbone.

38:00Mike Minogue:Backbone. We're talking like, you know, house painter or car painter or? Oh, house. You could have a go to Carver. I don't know how it would turn out. No good, bro. Brux is amen. Yeah, yeah. Good on you, Mike. This is still backbone. Would you choose Bathurst or the NRL grand final, mate? Oh, is that even a question? Up the wires. Thank you, man. Thank you. Thank you. Someone had to say it. Yeah, I mean. Thank you. Yes, yes.

38:23Keyzie:Oh, far out. Good on you, Mike. You're in the draw. Puck Samuel will sort you out. No worries. It is. Yeah. Good on you, mate. Okay. Actually, we haven't talked about that game. We'll do that after six o 'clock. Okay.

38:36Mike Minogue:What game's that?

38:36Keyzie:The Was, the Manly, and also the All Blacks.

38:40Mike Minogue:Another doozy of a testnitch. Are you suggesting we do a bit of sport chat after six?

38:44Keyzie:I think so, Keezy. Yeah, yeah. Oh, big shout out, by the way,

38:47Mike Minogue:to boystrip.co.nz for putting these prizes together. The NRL package is sold out. Yeah, forget about it. Forget about it, all right? It's over. The only way to get it is through us. However, there are still Bathurst packages available if you do want to go, boystrip.co.nz. Fellas? Bloody good, mate. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.

39:11Keyzie:Welcome back you massive backbones. Hope your Monday night's going along very nicely indeed. You're listening to The Big Show incidentally brought to you by Reburger.

39:20Mike Minogue:Serving good times with good food. Dine in or take away Reburger today. Ah, that's really quite yummy.

39:26Keyzie:Tisn't it. It is. Tisn't it. Tisn't it. You've had your dinner. What did you have there mate? Looked like some sort of noodle concoction. I'll be honest with you man, it was Zeta noodles. Oh, okay. It was leftovers. Yeah, it looked like leftovers. Yeah, it was leftovers. Yeah, yum. It was yum. Now it's all gone, Keezy. Yeah, it's all gone. Okay, you can forget about it, man. You're not having any. You've already had your filth today. What have you had? Hot pot. Hot pot, exactly.

39:52Mike Minogue:For lunch. Shocking bastard. That's all G, eh, Jase? Yeah, man. Thank you. What's for dinner, though? A ragu. My wife made a ragu last night. A beef ragu? Yeah. In the slow cooker. and the idea behind it was we could have it for dinner tonight as well because when you slow cook something like that, you can put it back in the slow cooker the second day and it tastes even better. Was it any good on day one? Yes, it was very, very, very nice. What did you have it with? Like this fresh, thick pasta. No, yeah. Really thick ribbons. Yeah, no, that's another one. Broccolini. Happy day, yeah. Yeah, I think it was something like that.

40:24Mike Minogue:Broccolini and something else. Oh, you wouldn't have been happy with a broccolini, would you? I love broccolini. Oh, yeah, even when you were hung. Yeah. Wow. Because it makes you feel like you're doing something good. Yeah.

40:32Keyzie:Chuck the old broccolini in the air fryer. Beautiful.

40:36Mike Minogue:We did it in the pan. Chuck it in the old bin. Beautiful. We did it in the pan with garlic and pepper. Okay. Jase. Yes. What are you having for dinner tonight, man?

40:47Keyzie:Some sort of falafel salad-y, wrappy thing. Are you even going to go home, man? I know, man. That's shocking. If Kesey was having that, you'd be fuming. Might just buy a pie on the way home or something.

40:59Mike Minogue:Stuff it in your gob.

41:00Keyzie:Nah, falafel wraps are yum, man. Yeah, I don't mind them, actually. Bit of mint sauce. Not mint sauce, but the sort of yogurty minty thing. Yogurty bugger there. Yeah, I get it. Bit of chilli sauce. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's all good. Hey, coming up, a bit of sport chat. But in the meantime, here's a bit of Metallica for you.

41:14Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

41:20Keyzie:Queens of the Stone Age there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this Monday evening. The time is 12 minutes past six o 'clock. Fellas, let's talk sport.

41:40That's the noise you make when you're watching sport. Yeah, man. Certainly when you're talking about it there, fellas. I guess the obvious place to start is with the Waz. They were up first there and managed to defeat the Sea Eagles 31 points to 30. She was a bit of a nail-biter there, a bit of an interesting one, Jase. over the last couple of weeks it seems like the wires have been worked out in the sense that you don't want to go anywhere near their forward pack because they'll smash you to bits and so the team's last couple of weeks have decided well let's chuck the ball wide early and go round and that has worked an absolute treat so I think you'll find particularly in this game coming up against the Dolphins this Saturday evening that there's going to be some real rush defence from the Warriors and I think they'll be putting pressure on the ref there not to call them offside.

42:28It was a thoroughly enjoyable game, but a really tense one. And, of course, all of us wanted them to really smash the Seagulls to give us the best possible chance of winning the minor premiership. But as it turned out, we won by one, and Penrith were playing West Tigers and absolutely smashed them to bits. So that was the end of that. But thoroughly enjoyable, but now the real work starts, Keezy.

42:50Mike Minogue:Let's go. Yes, sirree, Bob. Great game. Quickly, before we chat, All Blacks on the Saturday as well. on the MPC, the Bay of Plenty Steamers were hosting Manawa 2 and it was a 50 year anniversary of the very first MPC season and the Bay of Plenty Steamers won it and my mum's brother was the first five. Wow. Oh wow, how's that? And so they got everyone back together. He came from the East Coast and came down for this big special occasion, was welcomed and stuff. And then they got pumped. 29.12 by Manawa 2, yeah. That's it, 29.12, that's alright. You can live with that. No, that was like, nah. 45-12, no good.

43:27Keyzie:That's kind of respectable.

43:29Mike Minogue:50-year anniversary, though. I was like, oh, surely the boys will get up. Nah, damn it. Oh, well.

43:33Keyzie:Hey, then the All Blacks, of course, fellas. My God, what a test series it's been. You know, South Africa, rightfully number one in the world. Thank you. Powerful, strong, very impressive side. You know, my instinct is that we are a side on the rise and that by the time the World Cup comes around, I reckon we're going to be in a pretty good shape. And maybe, just maybe, the Springboks will be on a slight decline. Or they might be even better. Or they might be even better. We don't know. And we might be worse. It was a complete guess. But seriously, what a brilliant series. Just such good rugby to watch.

44:15It was. It was really good. And of all the games, I'm only assuming that the ref that they had there was at Georgian Fjellar. Yes. Because I enjoyed the first two games because by and large the ref tried to stay out of it. By the time the second half of this one rolled around, mate, he couldn't get it out of his gob. No. Non-stop. And so you sort of have to succeed despite the referee. Yes. There was one example there which I thought was brilliant where we made a break. One of our players made a break, but he ended up getting isolated. It was so often the way. and got tackled. Two of the South African players came through.

44:48Both of them stood over the ball and were sort of looking at the ref like, am I allowed to? Yes, do we? And that's kind of the problem with rugby is you've got two of the best players in the world playing at the absolute top of their game and they've got absolutely no ideas what the rules are at the breakdown. Yeah. That is pretty shocking. But it was a great game. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Too much whistle in the second half, but they are a better side than us at the moment. but we've come along in leaps and bounds since last year.

45:17Keyzie:Weirdly, to the States now we go. Oh, God. Well, I mean, it is so random and stupid, but it's obviously a money-making venture. I've got to say I felt for Leroy Carter missing that tackle. He'll be better for it. He will be, and he's one of those players that gives 150%, you can tell, and he was absolutely gutted.

45:37Mike Minogue:It does suck that they're going to the States, but they do have to grow the game. I mean, that's the big thing with Rugby Union, right, for years. What they're trying to grow is the revenue. So it earns 50 % more money from going to the US than it does by keeping the game. I don't know how many people are going to pick up a rugby ball over in Maryland. Yes. In the US. Growing the game, I don't know about that. Yeah, we'll see. We'll see. It's great stuff, though, fellas. Great stuff. The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Kesey. Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.

46:07Keyzie:Yes, indeed, the Pixies there on the Hauraki Big Show this Monday evening. Fellas, I know we're feeling a bit weary on it being a Monday and all that jazz. But hey, let's give out some advice.

46:20Mike Minogue:Be pretty nips 69 at gmail.com. Get in touch with the fellas. Please do get in touch if you're after some advice of any kind, specifically the genuine advice kind. A lot of people sending like jokey ones.

46:39Keyzie:Yeah, no, don't do that, man. Don't waste my time.

46:41Mike Minogue:But like jokey ones that are just filthy and we can't actually do anything with? Yes. So we like real questions, and if we read it on the show, you get a re-burger voucher.

46:49Keyzie:Well, like, for example, Keezy, at the moment I've got really itchy pubes. What's that about? Should I get it checked out?

46:56Mike Minogue:The pubes are itchy or the pubis area? Well, that's sort of where my pubes are. The pubis? Yes. Yeah, email into this email address. Yeah. And I'll ignore it.

47:07Keyzie:Yeah, okay, cool.

47:08Mike Minogue:G'day, fellas, this is Anonymous. I'm in a happy relationship but I've had a conundrum I had a very steamy dream about a new work colleague I didn't think much of it but now every time I'm chatting to her it comes to the forefront of my mind I try act normal I try act normal but the more I'm thinking act normal the weirder I feel like I am acting I know Mike and Kesey have had a similar situation and I just want to know how to move past things I've seen in my head and go back to two normal working adults cheers

47:39Keyzie:I think he's referring to your erotic dream about Keezy there. Remember that dream, Moggy? Not really. Oh, yeah, that's right. You're shocking, bud. Yeah, come on, man. Same thing with pugs with my missus. Yeah, with your missus. So how do you move past it? Well, I don't know if you do, Keezy. No, you indulge it. It's quite interesting what old mate says there, anonymous, is it? Yeah. That every time you talk to each other, it's at the forefront of your mind. Well, that's been that way for probably three months now. With you and me. Yeah. I'm looking at you now talking about this email that Anonymous has sent through, but in my mind's eye.

48:14Mike Minogue:Right. Filth. You, just being a filthy person. Yeah, yeah. I'm loving it. So I'm too screening at the moment. I've got this one thing that's happening in reality and one thing that's happening in my mind's eye. And how do you keep it? Because I don't feel like you're acting weird around me. No, I know. You just get used to it. It just becomes your reality, your normality. So this guy's freaking out a little bit. But, you know, I think the one thing that's really helped me was bringing it up when I raised it with you. Yeah, yeah. It sort of brought out into the open that bad behaviour of yours.

48:43Yes. It brought out into the open and then sort of normalised it. Everybody knew that you're a shocking bastard. We were able to move on. Yeah. So if he does the same thing with her. Yeah. Hey, I've had this dream about you. Shocking bastard. You were terrible. If you could knock it off, I'd appreciate it.

48:58Keyzie:Funnily enough, my wife had a dream last night. Yeah. And she never has these dreams. That I'd been having an affair for like longer than we'd been together. Yes. And that with this woman that used to be at the comedy club. Oh, really? Ah. Not Justine. But not only that, she had died. Your missus? No, the woman who I was having the affair with. I'm not going to name her. Okay. And so my wife, when I told her, was kind of really upset about it, but also didn't want to really have a go at me because...

49:38Mike Minogue:Your mistress had just died. My mistress had died. So is this in the dream you were telling her that this woman had died? Or in reality, when she hit you up with it, you said, oh, she's dead?

49:48Keyzie:No, I think she knew that she'd died, but also that I'd had an affair for over 30 years with her. Right.

49:56Mike Minogue:Very specific dream, Jase. Yeah, it was. It was very specific. And was the person a real person? Yes. Would I potentially know her? No. Of her?

50:04Keyzie:No. And funnily enough, this person's name at her job today, she was taking the person she was with to what she thought was this old cafe called Alan Peet's in Parnell there. And she turned up to where she thought, or where Alan Peet's used to be. Used to be, yeah. And the name of the new place was the name of the woman who she said I was having the affair with.

50:29Mike Minogue:That renamed it to Jace's mistress, essentially.

50:32Keyzie:Her name, yes.

50:33Mike Minogue:Wow. Wow.

50:34Keyzie:That's weird. That is weird, isn't it?

50:36Mike Minogue:I'm sorry to hear that, man.

50:38Keyzie:You guys are almost too close. Busted after all these years. And my wife never has those sort of dreams. I used to all the time. Yeah, because you're a shocking, you know. I am a shocking bastard. Yeah, yeah.

50:48Mike Minogue:So the advice is just out with it, let her know, and just move on.

50:53Keyzie:I would indulge it. I'd go right there in your private time. Oh, you're walking, I'd be like, hello. Hello. Had a dream about you last night. Well, you remember, Mogi. What was it about, can't say, but just know. Remember when we were at the Bear Fest? Yes. And that woman came up to us. That's right. And she gave me a hug and she said, I had a dirty dream about you. I had a dirty dream about you. You should have seen Josh absolutely all over it. There we go.

51:21Mike Minogue:And you were like, my old mistress just died. I'm in the market for another one. The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.

51:38Keyzie:Well, there you go, you mad bastards. That's the big show done and dusted this Monday evening. What's the disclaimer clip today there, Keezy?

51:49Mike Minogue:The disclaimer clip Which is a bonus podcast we do Is entitled Hot Pot And it comes out at 7.30 tonight How far away is Hot Pot from here? How far, like physically? To walk it? 500 metres? Oh, 10 minute walk 10 minute walk Down the hill? 52:20Keyzie:Mogey There you go What? Your plans for the night please You've just had your dinner I have actually I'm all tickety boo there So go home Hang around with the family there Yes Might watch something on the telly Yes And you might read a book Yeah I might not I don't know Don't know man Just a Monday night man I mean really What kind of an answer can you get Yeah true You know. Yeah, I see. Jase, what are you up to tonight?

52:53Keyzie:Well, it's interesting because my wife had... Don't start the shit. Tell us what you're up to. No, I'm telling you what I'm up to, man. If you give him a second. God. My wife was meant to be having a book club dinner with her mates. But then she let my daughter... What's a book? Oh, God. That's just an excuse to get together with the ladies. And she said, oh. You were saying there were a bunch of old gossips. Is that right? Was I? And then she realised, of course, she went, oh, bugger, that's right. I've got that bloody thing on tonight. Yeah. But she lent my daughter our car, and she's taking her boyfriend back out west.

53:40Keyzie:Chuck him on a bus. And she, well, don't get me started, Maggie. Wish I hadn't. And so she was like, oh, no, that's an absolute nightmare. That is a nightmare. I can't believe it. So I was like, well, what I could do. I tell you what, why don't you save it for the show tomorrow, man? I've got to go now. So I'll see you later. But having said that. See you, Moggy. Having said that. See you, Moggy. Have a good night, man. See you, man. So, Keezy, but the problem we do have now is because I haven't organised anything for dinner.

54:15Mike Minogue:I'm going to watch Outrageous Fortune. And it's always this scenario. And then I'm going to bed. See you tomorrow at 4pm, Jase. What's that, man? Bye.

On today's show, Jase is fumin' and it's his fault, Mike made a big impact at the Wahs and Keyzie's barely holding it together.
