In short

The hosts vent about studio mess left by “the Breakfast boys,” then trade car-fixing stories and recommend a city mechanic, and finish with diet/food talk plus a complaint about a disappointing dine-out meal.

Guests

No named guests; only the hosts (Chad/Jase/Mogey/others mentioned) and “Keezy” as a source of advice.

Guest backgrounds

Not applicable (no guests).

Key claims

Breakfast boys leave cups/rubbish despite a recent Byron Bay “work/socials” trip; one host repaired car headlining by removing roof lights/sun visors, but got sidetracked and ended up with the car unusable; AA on Hobson Street is fast with good communication; a mechanic previously overcharged by about $1,000; big meals cause immediate fatigue, so eat smaller portions more often.

Notable examples

replacing glued roof headlining; using cable ties; ordering chicken skewers and spicy lamb noodles at a crowded southern Chinese place where food looked overcooked and dry, and the lamb was tough/chewy.

0:15Keyzie:G'day fellas. Hello. I'm fuming.

0:19Mike Minogue:Oh God, what's wrong?

0:22Keyzie:Those breakfast boys have just been on a holiday for four days. The breakfast boys. Hey. Hey. In Byron Bay. In Byron Bay. They do a show this morning. I get in the studio today and there's a shit pile of mess everywhere. Like what? There were like four cups. There was rubbish everywhere. Jase. Some of that was yours. No. No, seriously. No, you don't. Last night I did forget, but then I came back in and grabbed it. Because you were reminded. Every single night I do that. That is not true, Jase. You don't. That is not true. That is fucking true. No, it's not. I swear to God, it's not. I make a point of doing it.

1:01Keyzie:Okay. And yet you forget.

1:02Mike Minogue:I don't want to... Mogey.

1:04Keyzie:Could you not eat while we're doing this?

1:06Mike Minogue:I don't want to have to start pointing it out when it happens.

1:10Keyzie:Last night I do admit I did forget my glass and my headphones. I was in a daze. But they came back in and got both.

1:16Mike Minogue:I think it's fine for everyone to occasionally forget stuff. As long as we don't go on and bag them. Because then it's like, well, actually...

1:23Keyzie:But I don't leave four cups and rubbish.

1:26Mike Minogue:This is very serious, Chad. One cup.

1:28Keyzie:I'm fuming. especially after they've just had a four-day holiday.

1:33Mike Minogue:Well, it's not actually a holiday. They were over there with listeners, you know, bonding, working, working the socials.

1:38Keyzie:Yeah, it looked exhausting. It looked totally exhausting. It looked exhausting, actually. It looked like a beautiful beach.

1:44Mike Minogue:I don't want to be on Team Brekkie here, and I don't want to do that thing that my missus does that I mentioned the other day, where they instantly take the other person's side. But you're going to. But I'm going to. Because we went to Fiji and got on the piss and played golf. Yes. and then came in and left cups. Well, you did. Yeah, you did. So I don't want to be here. I mean, look, every day I come in, this is what I get. There's a glass and a cup over there. There's a glass over there and there's this water bottle. I also don't care. They're just pigs, so what do I care? Yeah. No, you're covered in chip crumbs.

2:15No, but they're pigs because I will leave and I will take my stuff with me, unlike Jose, who will say he'll do it. He'll leave it, yeah. But yeah, they are messy. They're always happy.

2:25Mike Minogue:What do we do about it? Nothing. I don't care. Should we challenge them to a relay?

2:29Keyzie:Yeah. Good stuff. How's your day been, fellas?

2:33Mike Minogue:Great. I did this really funny thing where the fabric in my hood lining inside my car on the roof started to hang down a bit. Yeah, I hate that. I do hate it. And so I was like, okay, cool. I've never replaced the fabric before or fixed it. I'm going to learn how to do it. That seems like it would be a real niggly bastard. Yeah, you'd think so. But you take the, it is, you take the center light out of the center of the roof. If you take the light at the front out, you take the bloody fold down, what are they called? The sunshades? Yeah. That's already way beyond my capacities. The visors take them out, take the clips out, unclip all the thing, pull all the rubber down.

3:10Mike Minogue:It took me about 20 minutes to do all that, pull the headlining out, get it out through the passenger door, and then get sidetracked, and then go to go to work and realise your car is in pieces. And then be like to my wife who's working from home, hey, you're not going anywhere, are you? Because I need to take your car. Yeah. And then she's like, well, can I use your car? because I might have to go somewhere later. I was like, yeah, well, you can. It's going to be fucking niggly, though, because there's just bits hanging off it. Yeah. And so now I'm in her car, and my car is pretty much unusable.

3:34How do you make it nice and tight?

3:37Mike Minogue:Well, that's going to be the interesting thing because...

3:39Keyzie:Razor blade, just cut it all off.

3:41Mike Minogue:Or just cut it off. Yeah. It's glued, and they're pretty hearty and wrapped around, so I'm going to have to pull it off a bit from the edge, spray a really thin layer of adhesive, and then push it all back on, but not too much because otherwise it'll soak through, and you'll see the glue. Is that the only thing that keeps it on? Glue, yeah. Just adhesive. Just glue, yeah, in this case. And then put it back on again. There you go, Jase. Fascinating. But also, well, come on, man. But also, my car's a heap of shit anyway, so it doesn't matter. May as well learn how to do it. Which one is it? What have you got?

4:09Mike Minogue:Mahonda. Mahonda. It's an all right car, man. Yeah, it's a nice car, but I'd rather have a crap. Well, people would think it's a heap of shit.

4:17Keyzie:Right.

4:18Mike Minogue:I mean, it's not a teeter.

4:19Keyzie:Speaking of cars, I got a message from my mechanic today saying, you're waft, you fella.

4:24Mike Minogue:Which mechanic?

4:26Keyzie:But it's out in Glen Eden, so I was like, oh, no. I'm not going up to Glen Eden again, so I need to find one in the city, fellas. I can tell you one that's very good. Oh, good. Didn't it burn down? No, different one. Don't get my warrants from there.

4:39Mike Minogue:Is it the same mechanic? Yes. Fuck that guy.

4:43Keyzie:But I haven't been back to him anyway for ages.

4:44Mike Minogue:When are we going to talk about that? Soon. Surely we can talk about that on the podcast here. It doesn't matter.

4:51Keyzie:But, yeah. Sorry, I need to find a city mechanic. Well, I can just tell you, AA on Hobson Street. Nice. They're great. Sweet.

4:59Mike Minogue:Done. Sold. The good thing about, obviously, mechanics listening, if you're a good mechanic, awesome. But the good thing about an AA or like a V10Z is they just tell you what's wrong with it. Yes. Does AA fix it for you as well? These guys do fix it. They have an in-house mechanic? Yeah, they do. It's bloody good. Very reasonable, very, very fast. Great comms, very good comms.

5:17Keyzie:I've got a feeling I need a bit of work done. My little plastic flappy bit under the hood's flapping down. Oh.

5:24Mike Minogue:I can fix that.

5:25Keyzie:You can't. It's pretty shattered. So there's nothing to sort of stick. It doesn't click in anymore.

5:31Mike Minogue:That's okay.

Read the full transcript

5:31Keyzie:Because it's snapped and broken. Use cable ties. Oh, that's true. Drill a hole and use a cable tie. Someone used a cable tie on it for me and it didn't work. It snapped off again. Jeez, what happened to it? The hood lining. Sorry, the. That was actually the mechanic we're talking about. Oh, really? It came down. You know the plastic cover that covers the engine or something? It came down. So I went down to him and said, well, this has come loose and I can't fix it up again. And he said, all right. And he hooned into his workshop and just smashed the shit out of it. Like there was a little ledge and he just smashed right over it and it just ripped off.

6:10Mike Minogue:Sorry, is this under the car?

6:11Keyzie:Under the car, yes. Oh. And I was like, what the fuck, man? What did you say? I said, what the fuck? And what did he say? He said, oh, no, well, I'll have to fix that up. Can we please talk about this guy? And I was like. He sucks. How long were you with this guy for? Well, here's the thing. 20 years. Yeah, about 15. Well, actually, no, but wait, but wait. I'll explain it. My wife's family's been with this guy for about 30 years, but he's not the one running it anymore. So it was initially this guy, and then it was another guy who was awesome, and then this other guy in the last sort of four or five years took over the business.

6:50Keyzie:So it's a completely different guy from who he started with. So four or five years with this punk. But he hadn't done anything to that point. Oh, that's actually not true, actually. Oh, my God. He once said, I'll need to do work on the car that's two grand, and I went, oh, okay. and then he did work on it and it cost three grand. And I was like, what? Did he call you? No, he didn't tell me. Did you pay it? I did.

7:21Mike Minogue:Arsehole. Arsehole for just charging you an extra grand, not even calling you.

7:26Keyzie:Yeah, I should have. But, you know, I'm a soft cock. Yeah, you are. But surely we can talk about this guy now. No. No one cares. No one knows the business. No, because he's a lovely guy. He's not. He's not. He's a dissonance dude. He made you a car. He's a shocking bastard. Your car is still damaged. I'm thieving from you. The Hauraki Big Show Weekdays from 4 On Radio Hauraki The Hauraki Big Show Podcast Ah, yeah, so Car chats, good stuff You know what I've discovered today? I've eaten a lot today, fellas Which has been great I've decided I've got to eat more food You've said this I know I feel like we're attacking Chas But why do you have to eat more food?

8:04This has come from Keezy What? You've been perfectly happy until Keezy started banging on That you needed to start eating more food That's where it came from, Keezy and you were perfectly happy with your life and who you were as a person and now you are obsessed with eating more. Why?

8:17Keyzie:Well, I think because I'm burning more stuff at the moment because I'm doing so much more exercise and I am naturally eating more. But what I've discovered is metabolism, fellas. Every time I eat a significant amount of food, I'm massively fatigued immediately. You guys like that? It depends what you're eating. If you're eating carbohydrates, you'll have a problem. but if you're eating proteins more in salad, you'll be fine. But smaller portions throughout the day. Smaller portions more often, yeah. Not a sort of Kese-eat 20 dumplings, chicken fried rice. Because that's when you get the itis and you've got to go to sleep.

8:55You've got to have it more. It's no good. No good. Yeah.

8:59Keyzie:You don't eat more, man.

9:00Mike Minogue:You're fading away.

9:01Keyzie:I'll talk about it. Fuck, I had a shocker last night. It was one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. I'm not looking forward to this. I was fucking fuming. Yeah, when are we doing this? Well, actually, we were talking about it last. Our last three have been disappointing. They've been disappointing. It's like, oh, this isn't very good. Are you paying, mate? How much are these dine-and-out meals? They're not flash places. 30 bucks? Yeah, 30. You know, we'll end up paying 30 bucks for the meal between two of us. Sweet. Between two of you. Yeah. So, but the last three have been disappointing.

9:36Keyzie:and I know there's good food places in town. Are you looking at ratings? Yes. Yeah, okay. Yeah, and this place last night tricked us because it was really full and it was a kind of southern Chinese sort of place and we went, oh, this looks quite interesting, but not good.

9:52Mike Minogue:What did you order?

9:54Keyzie:I ended up the first three things I tried to order, they didn't have any more. You need to start doing a Jesse Mulligan review system here. I do review everything. Do you? Yeah, I've got a little notebook. Seriously, I do. You really should. That'll go great, Gunn. You should do it on Instagram. And I ended up doing this sort of panic purchase. Well, I might as well talk about it now. And I got chicken skewers.

10:17Mike Minogue:Hard to fuck that up, though. Chicken skewers are yummy.

10:20Keyzie:With, like, flatbread. And I went, okay, that'll do. And my wife got this sort of really spicy lamb dish.

10:29Mike Minogue:Yum.

10:30Keyzie:With wide, thick noodles.

10:32Mike Minogue:Oh, yum.

10:33Keyzie:And it was just infiltrated with chilies. I mean, like whole chilies. Oh, God. And the lamb was really tough and chewy. Do you really associate chilies with lamb? No. And all Chinese. No.

10:47Mike Minogue:Spicy lamb noodles, I've had that before from one of my favourite noodle places. Yes. I think Biang Biang Noodles it's called. It's on Queen Street. And the spicy lamb goes hard. Yeah, yeah. So it was bad. That sucks.

10:58Keyzie:And it was one of those places where the servings were massive. And it's like, just because you're serving a massive plate of food doesn't mean it's good. And it was terrible. And my skewers were as dry as fuck. They were literally like, I could barely eat them. They were so dry.

11:20Mike Minogue:I love the thing you do where you just panic order and then you go, oh, what the fuck? I ended up with chicken skewers and a flatbread. It's like, well, why don't you just not order that?

11:29Keyzie:But the three things I wanted beforehand weren't there. Oh, true. As I was leaving, because it was quite full, all the people that were there were there before us. And I took a look around as I was leaving the restaurant and no one had really eaten their meals. Right. Like there was just food.

11:47Mike Minogue:Leftover. Leftover.

11:49Keyzie:And everything looked massively overcooked, like dry as fuck.

11:54Mike Minogue:So you reckon everyone had had a bad experience?

11:55Keyzie:I think so, yes. But then I go down and he's like, how was it? And I go, fine. Really great. Fine. See you tomorrow. I've got to stop doing that. I've got to start going, no, I didn't enjoy it, actually. The driver. Although I guess if I was a business owner, I'd want to know. Yeah, maybe, eh? Definitely. Like the chicken was really dry and the lamb was really tough. Yeah. So not great, mate. Yeah, I won't be coming back. Put it that way. Yeah, exactly. I can't imagine you saying that.

12:24Mike Minogue:Neither can I. Nah. It's a nice idea, though. It's a great idea. Because I'm the same. I'll just go, yeah, it was great. And then just in my head, and to my wife, I'd say, we're never coming here ever again. That's the path of least resistance.

12:36Keyzie:I've had girlfriends and friends that are the opposite. Well, you're the same thing. You're like, I'm breaking up with you. Is it all good? Yeah. No, you're great. No, I mean that have been like, no, this is terrible. Yeah. And like to their face.

12:50Mike Minogue:Yeah, I can't handle that. A little bit of that's great. But that full on, oh, no.

12:54Keyzie:Didn't say that was full. If you're trying to help them out, it's fine. Yes. If you're just being cunty about it. I mean, mean about it. Jeez. Although, actually, the agenda is constantly dropping. Is it? We don't want to stoop to the ACC's level. Come on, man. Those cunts.

13:10Mike Minogue:Hey, listen to The Big Show, 407 Weekdays, Radio Horaki.
