In short
Relationship talk about cheating/affairs, libido changes after kids, and how couples’ careers and time at home shift power and desire; includes a brief aside on French “mistress” culture and statistics on infidelity.
Guests
The episode is a casual chat with three hosts—Keyzie, Jase, and Chase (no external guest names). Backgrounds: They’re long-running radio/podcast hosts discussing personal life (wives, kids, dieting, thrifting) and pop-culture (Louis Theroux).
Key claims
After children, partners’ love and libido dynamics change; giving a spouse time off work can backfire; affairs can be framed as a “side piece” arrangement to reduce pressure.
Notable examples
A flatmate criticized carrot sticks/hummus; thrifting in Japan; Louis Theroux’s porn audition clip; French surveys cited: ~17% affairs (some polls higher: ~55% men, ~30% women).

0:18Keyzie:You're getting sushi keyzie.
0:19Mike Minogue:Sushi keyzie. Was planning on it. Yeah. I haven't actually had a bowl of cereal. Sorry? Truffle pig? Well, I was just going to say, do you need it? Well, I've had a bowl of cereal today and that's it. It was muesli. Muesli? What kind of muesli? Was it a Hubbard's? Mother Earth. Oh, sure. Maybe?
0:40Keyzie:My wife makes her own muesli. Oh, what a weapon. She is a weapon, man.
0:46Mike Minogue:That reminds me of one time our flatmate. Bank camp?
0:55Mike Minogue:Okay, disclaimer. Disclaimer. But one time in our flat, Mike, my wife made a bowl of carrot sticks and hummus. And then our flatmate at the time. Did you break up with her? I would have. That's shit. Our flatmate at the time was like. I hate carrot sticks. Well, you weren't fucking there, Chase. All right. Maybe if you had a carrot stick or two rather than fucking chips. Yeah, and lamingtons and shit. You wouldn't be ballooning out at a rapid pace. Anyway At a rapid pace of what?
1:29Keyzie:Not
1:31Mike Minogue:What was the fucking name? Carrots Carrots and hummus
1:35Keyzie:At your flatmate
1:36Mike Minogue:Flatmate looks at my wife and goes You know carrots are full of sugar She said that to my wife And my wife was like Cool so what? I can't eat anything with fucking sugar I can't even eat carrots and hummus That's also not true Wow They've got sugar in them They're sweet
1:50Keyzie:And if there's sugars in them They're good natural sugars They're not processed sugars
1:55Mike Minogue:100%.
1:55Keyzie:Did she tell her to go fuck herself?
1:58Mike Minogue:No, but she certainly has brought it up. Did you tell her a few facts about herself? No. Try and swing it around into a whoop whoop. No, not keen. Damn it. Not keen. Not keen. I actually, maybe I shouldn't tell that story.
2:12Keyzie:No, I won't tell that story.
2:13Mike Minogue:Well, you started now, Jase, man. You're halfway through it, for God's sake. Come on, brother. No, no. The lid's looking sick, man, and that is a new shirt.
2:19Keyzie:Well, it's actually not. I just have never worn it to work. Fair enough.
2:24Mike Minogue:Yeah. I'd love to have that t-shirt.
2:26Keyzie:It's a good t-shirt. I've found her actually a good place for t-shirts. Takes years off them, doesn't it? The t-shirt? I don't know. Ask your missus. Ask your missus, Jase, about the shirt, the t-shirt, and your daughter. She's just interested in getting it off, Mogey.
2:42Mike Minogue:Fuck yeah. Getting it off, Mogey? Yeah, sure, but what about you? Hey! Bang, bang, bang! Douche, douche! Douche, douche! That's how we do it! Douche, douche!
2:54Keyzie:But I found a cool place For t-shirts It's second hand But you know It's kind of wacky t-shirts It's not dire wolf sort of stuff It's kind of old It's just like eagle shit It's kind of Wacky eagles It's got like 70s vibe T-shirts I know the one Is this the one on End of Pontomy Road there? No K-Road K-Road Yeah Yeah there's a song K-Road And it's pretty good
3:18Mike Minogue:There's a few like But I'm biny There's a few Actually, Japan's really good for thrifting, Jase.
3:24Keyzie:Well, I'm not actually into thrifting. It's more my wife. More a cheap bastard.
3:28Mike Minogue:He's wearing, every day you wear thrifted clothes, I'm not actually into thrifting. That's true.
3:32Keyzie:Well, he doesn't do any other than shopping. I don't buy them, Kesey.
3:35Mike Minogue:Yeah, right.
3:35Keyzie:She buys them.
3:36Mike Minogue:But if you go to Japan. She is the cat's mother. Thrifting is big over there.
3:41Keyzie:But I'm getting more and more into it. I mean, you guys saw that sick sweatshirt I wore yesterday. 50 bucks.
3:48Mike Minogue:You've been wearing that fucking non-stop for like four years. Are you trying to tell us that that was a new jumper? Sometimes.
3:58Keyzie:Oh, fuck. But you can't. I mean, come on, man. You can't walk in here and convince us a jersey you've worn
4:04Mike Minogue:every week since we started is new. But. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
4:16Keyzie:But I am getting into it a little bit more, the old thrift. Well, just going to shops. You'll be thrifting over there because they've got the undies and the machines, you know, the vending machines. You'll be thrifting hard. Who even says I'm going to Japan? Thrifting and sifting.
4:31Mike Minogue:Yeah, thrifting. Well, you probably won't is my thought. Well, it's just. You might go to Melbourne.
4:37Keyzie:Oh, I'm doing that. But, you know, it's because we wanted our girls to come with us and now they're planning their own lives in a site. Why don't you go? Just me and my wife and my little one can go. Fuck them. 100%. I want them to come, of course. But you don't need them there on every holiday. No.
4:57Mike Minogue:No, that's right. Imagine that. You're almost 30 and every holiday you go on, your parents have to be there. Yeah, it's a bit of a shit one. And it's just your dad and his hoodie he wears to death. That's the thing, Jase. What you're forgetting, of course, is that you love them more than they love you.
5:09Keyzie:Oh, yeah, totally. Yeah. Totally. It's a sad truth. It is, isn't it? And also, you know, the other thing that you're going to have to get used to too, Keezy, is that my wife loves them more than she loves me. Oh, are you fucking kidding? You know, it's just a given. I fucking know. It's not even close. When little Keezy comes along, you're passe, Keezy. That's the big adjustment. It's a big adjustment. It is a big adjustment. It is. My dad told me that. My dad said, this is what you need to know. Yes. Your wife will always love your kids more than she loves you, and you will always love your wife probably a little bit more than you love your kids.
5:50Keyzie:And I went, wow. I mean, I love my kids as much as I love my wife. So it wasn't quite accurate there. No, I would – yeah, no, I'd go with my kid. Yeah. I mean, you know, no offence to my wife. It's close. It comes and goes a bit. It doesn't go anywhere with a kid, you know. It comes and goes a bit with a missus. Yes. Yeah, right. Yes. So what are we doing? Ranking how much we love our - But well, that's what ends up happening is that you get ranked because at the moment you are the best thing in your wife's life and that will change. And you won't be anymore. But you won't change. Your feelings will remain the same, but hers will completely shift and then you're in a completely different setup.

6:31Mike Minogue:But what if it's a scenario, right, where let's just say we've got a couple of little kisies and I'm doing really well career-wise because I'm on Hodaki. Yeah. And then I say to my wife, hey, you don't have to go back to work, blah, blah, blah, blah, do whatever you want, got the kids. And then all of a sudden I'm in this position of like he's looking after us and surely that gives you a few.
6:50Keyzie:No, she will resent you for taking her career away. Well, I'm not taking it away.
6:55Mike Minogue:I'm saying you can do whatever you want. Yeah, you can do whatever you want, but at the same time you are taking it away. Well, I don't want to take it away. She can do it. The problem with it is that whatever you haven't got is what you want. So what I'm saying is you can't make her happy because if she had to work, she'd want to be at home, and if she's at home, she's going to want to work. I don't know. It's like being single versus being in a relationship. You know, when you used to be a single girl, you never were, Jase. I never had been. Back in the day, you'd be in a relationship with some deadbeat, and you'd think, God, I wish I was single again.
7:25Then you'd be single, and you're like, God, I wish I was in a relationship. I'm getting tired of all this meaningless sex with absolutely stunningly beautiful woman. Yeah, I can relate to that.
7:36Keyzie:The reversal of that too, of course, is that you stay at home and she carries on her career, but that also has a stifling effect on the relationship in that you're just not hot to her anymore. But that would never happen, would it? Because you would never give up your career.
7:52Mike Minogue:No, the reason it wouldn't happen is because my current career, Jay says, you know full well, involves a lot of doing fuck all during the day and pretending you're busy. You know what I mean? So there's this potential of both of us being at home a lot. Yes. You know what I mean? Yes. With the kids.
8:08Keyzie:That was the one advantage, as I've banged on about before, that my wife and I had was that one of us was always at home. Correct. For the kids. Yeah, 100%. Mostly you because you're out of work. Yeah, because I was an out of work. Well, same with her. Was she an out of work actor or was she mostly working? Did she move into the straight world pretty quick? Yeah, she moved into the straight world a few years in. Yeah. And she would get a job of some description. Yeah, you've got to have one. That's my wife now. But, yeah. But, and also the other thing is that they lose themselves completely in motherhood.
8:42And that's a huge adjustment.
8:44Mike Minogue:Yeah, right. And then they don't know who they are. Well, you know, they don't have time to be who they are. Yeah. And then you don't go through that issue. Right. And that's not great. And their libido just dies. Especially for you. Hopefully, God. Just for you. for everyone else. It's through the roof. It actually goes up. Yeah, it actually goes through the roof. Yeah. Right, okay. So it's tricky times, Keezy. It sounds like a fucking nightmare. So you should be running, what do you call it? A side piece. Oh, yeah. I've heard about it. Because you know over in France they have mistresses. Yes.
9:22And generally you would go to work. They go to work and then a couple of days a week and then they'll go pop over and see old mate. and then get home about 8 or 9 o 'clock in the evening.
9:32Mike Minogue:And that's just like a normal French thing to do. That's what they say. I find it slightly difficult to believe.
9:38Keyzie:I wonder what the percentage of woman would be. This is highly controversial. Yeah, go on. In this set-up that actually would go, actually it gets him out of my hair. Yeah. He's not pesting me for sex all the time. 100%. fill your boots, just be careful, and then we'll see you later. Well, you know, don't be. I don't want to know about it. Yes. Don't make a fool of me. Yes.
10:07Mike Minogue:Yeah. You sound like you'd be right at home, Jax, on the new Louis Thoreau documentary. Oh, the man is fair. Because there's a lot of that going on.
10:15Keyzie:I actually watched a little Louis Thoreau clip today where he auditioned for porn. Yes, that's a classic.
10:23Mike Minogue:Yes. And he's interviewing all the actors and stuff. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So interesting.
10:28Keyzie:Fuck, it's interesting. But they said when he was doing his audition, you have to get wood, and that was too far for him. He was like, no. Oh, yeah, we need to see it. Yeah, and he was like, oh, no. Because he only did the audition because he wanted the other actors, the other porn actors to be comfortable and go, oh, this guy's legit. He's actually trying to be a part of it.
10:48Mike Minogue:Yeah.
10:49Keyzie:But, yeah, him getting wood was a step too far. Around 17 % of French people say they've had an affair in some surveys Similar to Spain Other polls report higher lifetime figures like 55 % of men and 30 % of women Shocking bastards Only 45 % of men Oh yeah, that makes better sense
11:10Mike Minogue:Because in your relationship it's 100 % of men And 0 % of women, right? Well, Jadavid is out to 50-50 Which is pretty good It's not bad certainly paints you in a good light. How many affairs have you had, Josh? Fucking hell. Nah, I'm just joking.
11:27Keyzie:Are you on your half-priced sushi getting, like, sticks?
11:31Mike Minogue:Potentially. Would you like one?
11:33Keyzie:No. Just get one just in case. Nah, fuck that. Come on, man.
11:38Mike Minogue:I'll do you get one, all right?
11:40Keyzie:Pretty full. I just had a lovely halloumi and chickpeas salad. He's just killing your opportunity to go and get the best sushi. Literally running out of time now, yeah. Actually, that happened to me yesterday.
