In short

The episode is an “outro” chat from the Hauraki Big Show about everyday city life in the CBD: disgust at finding a long blonde hair in a glass of water; sharing a “barn me” meal; riding a mum’s electric step-through bike (flat tyre, charging the removable battery indoors, “da-geek” assist button, and downhill recharging); expensive petrol prices and the idea of using an electric bike to avoid hills. They also trade stories about seeing drug deals on scooters and paranoia from watching neighbors, comparing it to Hitchcock’s Rear Window and its remakes (Disturbia). Notable examples include a man abusing someone at a bus stop, a homeless man asking for money and dairy purchases, and a separate homeless woman claiming she couldn’t afford cancer treatment and asking for cash.

0:00You a sushi boy? I'd like to, yeah. Okay, where are we at? Yeah, let's do it. Ready? Yeah. Ugh. What the fuck am I hearing? For all you mad bastards loving the Big Show podcast, get up even closer on Instagram, YouTube and TikTok or Raw Dogget. Four to seven every weekday on Radio Hood Aircare.

0:24Keyzie:Oh, g'day, fellas. Hello. Hello. Hello. Mogi's disgusted because he was just sucking on his glass of water and he sucked down a mass of hair. A big blonde hair. There's nothing worse, is there? I don't find it that bad. I've had a few occasions recently, actually, where I've had meals with hairs in them. Like you've gone out and bought them. Gone out and bought them. And especially when it's a long hair and you go, oh, no. And you just keep pulling on it and it keeps coming out. Yeah. I think it's better to pull it out there than feel it on your tongue after taking a bite. Yeah. You know? It's like getting pubes in your mouth, isn't it?

1:11Is it? I don't mind. Well, you sort of anticipate that, though. Yeah. Do you? You do. Yeah, man. I know you do. Yeah. You sort of see that one coming, you know? But when you're having a drink of water, you don't expect it. No. What's been happening today, Jizz?

1:24Keyzie:I've had a very good day today. It's been very nice. Very enjoyable. Could you rustle that a bit more? Yeah. You know, just out and about. Did a bit of business. Did a bit of this and that. Oh, a bit of business. A bit of business. There's a business, man. A bit of business. Reignited an old argument. That's so good. You have to save that for the show. I absolutely won't. But not really. But really. And just wandering around a little bit as well. So it was a good day, fellas. How good. Just had a barn me. You shared a barn me with my wife? Oh, yeah, so sort of making amends, were you? Well, nah.

2:03It was just, are you hungry? Tense silence.

2:06Keyzie:Hungry or not? Because I'm going to get a barn me. Do you want some? Yeah. Or do you want me to buy your own one? Yeah. Did you share one? Yeah, we did. That's cute. That's all we need, man. I don't need a massive whole barn me. Yeah, righto. You know what I mean? How about you guys? How were your days? She's a cold bastard. It's nippy. She's a cold bastard. I went to ride my mum's step-through electric bike. Oh, yeah. She worked today just to see how she runs. But I got on it, and, of course, it was a flat tyre. Oh, sick. Good times. I'm just going to put that in the skip. Talk me through the electric bike.

2:44Keyzie:I mean, because I imagine there's all sorts of variations, obviously. Yes. But is it you charge it, or is it charged by you pedalling occasionally? You charge it. It's a battery which you can take off the bike. Right. And you take that inside the house. How good. It's pretty good. And you just charge it like that. So, yeah. And then when you're riding, so you'll be tootling along, and then you go, da-geek, into a little, into. Yeah, that's it. Da-geek. Is there like a button or something? There is a button, actually. Right. On this one, yeah. Yes. And then there is a thing where if you're going downhill, it recharges the battery a bit.

3:25Same thing happens with a car. Yes. Which is weird. What, when you go downhill? How good? Yeah, sort of an odd thing. I should look up exactly why. Yeah, I mean, I find that quite an appealing idea.

3:38Keyzie:But the pedals don't go, though. Well, yeah, they go a billion miles an hour. And you just have to... You have to pedal at the pace. And you have to splay your legs out, So you don't get exhausted. A mate of mine had one, right? That I was using around here. Yes, that Johnny Brough used too. That's right. Well, you could pedal or you could not. I'm yet to see if that's the case, but I think it must be with mum's one because it wasn't a cheap bastard. Yeah. So you can just sort of flick a little thumb switch, I guess, and off she goes. But I'll find out. But it goes about 25, 30k an hour. I want one of those, man.

4:13That's pretty good. I really do. Just for zipping around the city. For zipping, man. For zipping and zopping, you know. Just for the zipping. Yeah. The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast. But it's the way forward, certainly above your combustion engine. Yes. I filled up, what do I do? I put some gas in the car the other day. The T-Do you see? Because I've got the T-Do. Yes. I don't know if you guys have noticed. Price the gas. Oh, man. She's up there, brother. Yeah.

4:44Keyzie:Well, as a - It doesn't matter for us so much being in the city. Yeah, well, I haven't put petrol in my car for, I can't even remember the last time. That was the first time this year for me. Yeah. And I put$50 in there. It's crazy, isn't it? You see, what I could do is I could get an electric bike and just pedal around the flat parts and then zoom up the hills. Zoom. You know, just. Actually, that'd be good for you, one of those ones. What are those? The spaghetti bars, I think they're called. Sissy bars. Sissy bars, yeah. Is it one of those handlebars? We'll talk about that on the show, what my options are.

5:19Keyzie:With a banana seat. Saw a couple of drug deals again today on the old scooters. On a Tuesday. On a Tuesday. I wonder what you're buying on a Tuesday. Probably weed. Probably weed. That seems like a Tuesday vibe. Or meth. Because meth's the only day of the week. Yeah. Depending on where you are in your addictions. And whether or not you've just had meth. And you want more meth. God, I could go with some more meth. Just in the square there, you know? People zoom down on the little thing and there's someone standing there. It's like The Wire, isn't it? It's crazy. Yeah. And as I said, once you've seen it, you can't stop seeing it.

5:52Keyzie:Has anybody ever caught you looking? Yes. Really? Yes. Having a gaze? Yeah. Well, I actually got to the point where I was watching so many drug deals from my apartment that I actually got paranoid about it. Yes. And I thought, my God, what if people see me watching them and then try and murder me in my sleep? Well, Jase, what we've got going on here is a rear window situation. Yes. You know about that one, Pugson? I've heard the name. I don't know what it is. Rear window is a movie by Hitchcock, Alfred Hitchcock. Yes. And it has old maid in it. What's his name there? Cary Grant. Cary Grant, yes.

6:30Who breaks his leg. He's confined to his apartment. And so he looks out his window and he sees crimes taking place or he thinks he's seen a murder taking place. Oh, yep. And then has the person seen him see them? So then the paranoia comes in, Jase, just like you're describing there. It was remade as a Shia LaBith movie in the early, or maybe late 90s, early 2000s. Great film. Great film. What's it called? I can't remember. Anyway, it's got a smoke show in it. Oh, it's not Disturbia, is it? Disturbia. Is that a remake of Rear Window? That is. Are you shitting me? I am not. And I think Rear Window's got Kim Novak in it as well.

7:09She was certainly in Vertigo. A smoke show of her own day. Yes.

7:13Keyzie:There's also another very similar film. True. And is it Naomi Watts? The woman in the apartment. And she's like an alcoholic. Oh, yeah. And she also watches a crime take place and then gets, and has already got issues with alcohol and stuff. And then goes over there, but the wife is still there, but it's a different woman. Yes. Girl on the train. That's not that one. No, it's very similar to a girl on the train. Now we've got a moving apartment building. Yes. See what we're doing here? We've got one idea and we're recycling. Yeah. Well, it's a great concept. It is good, isn't it? It is in terms of a movie idea of inadvertently witnessing a murder or something.

7:57Keyzie:Or a drug deal. Or a drug deal. Or somebody jacking it. Ah. As, Jase, you saw that as well, didn't you? A guy jacking it. Yes, jacking it. There's another woman that. Did you wait till he? No. Real matter of fact. There was another woman, I can't tell you what she said on our little street path, on our little park path there. Was she dropping some? She was exchanging a few slurs with you. No, not exchanging slurs with me at all, just to the general public explaining very loudly how she was feeling. Ah. Was she horny? Yes. Yeah, good. But I won't go into specifics about what she said. I'll tell you off air.

8:39Keyzie:Yeah. You could just say it and I can bleep it. I've got time. And then... Say it. Today, another... My wife and I are sitting there. She said, do you want me to say it? Yeah. And I'll bleep it. You promise? I promise. Okay. My **** is so ****. Yeah. I'm not bleeping it. My beep is so beep. Yes. My **** is so ****. I keep saying it because now I have to get more timestamps. That was good stuff. Oh, is that it? I've just got to finish off with this. Yeah, finish yourself off. I'll finish myself off. And then my wife and I, at about 11 this morning, were sitting in the lounge and had a hell of a fight.

9:23Keyzie:And we were like, oh. Wandered to the window. Dude runs across the road, and there's a guy standing at the bus stop just abusing the shit out of him. This guy runs across. Dadoosh, dadoosh, dadoosh. Really? And then just walks back to the apartment. It's like, just another day. And gave him the beets. Yeah, gave him the beets. Yeah, right. So that guy was running his mouth. Running his mouth. But then this guy got up again and was abusing him as he was walking off. Yeah. And I was like, okay, just another day in the CBD. You love it, eh? I got approached by a homeless gentleman who said, have you got any money?

9:56I said, no. He said, oh, can you get something for me from the dairy? I was like, yeah, okay, what do you want? And he's like, oh, get some money out. And I was like, fuck yeah. Fucking hell. And I know the dude in there. I was like, can I get some money for old mate? Here he goes, nah. I was like, oh, well, mate, sorry. Yeah, yeah. Brett, huh? Okay. Yes. There you go. And the guy was fuming. He's trying to give me some money, man. Fuck. Yeah. So will you be here later or I'll be back later?

10:21Keyzie:He wasn't there. Oh. He left. My daughter had the same thing with a woman, a homeless woman saying that she couldn't afford her cancer treatment stuff from the chemist. and my daughter was like, okay, well, let's go into the... Chemist. This is not my youngest daughter. It's one of my older daughters. Into the chemist and she said, oh, no, no, can we just... Just give me the cash. Just give me the cash. And my daughter was like, okay, I'm being head of here. But she was like, okay, let's go and get some cash. Oh, that's nice. Backbone. All right, I'm going to go and get some, speaking of, sushi.

10:56Sushi. Sushi, go. Good on you, mate. All right, listen to the Big Show. See you, mate. Listen to the Big Show. 47 Weekdays on Radio Haraki.
