In short
The hosts trade stories about bad or disappointing meals, especially dinner “cooking complaints,” and how food affects their mood; they also riff on clothing/“conservative” vibes and weekend drinking hangovers.
Guests
No specific guests are introduced; the episode is an outro featuring the regular Big Show hosts (Jase, Keezy, Moggy/Mogey, and Raw Doggett mentioned in promos).
Key claims
Keezy says he “drops the bottom lip” when he’s not excited about food; one host claims his happiness isn’t tied to food quality, while another needs a tasty curry to feel good. A congee meal was tasteless and required extra condiments.
Notable examples
leftover HelloFresh congee with pork mince; a promised pork ribs meal replaced by tomato pasta due to running out of time; Friday night drinks where a friend’s hammered partner group left at midnight.

0:23Keyzie:Last night, my wife wasn't very well. I know that. She was pretty crook. What kind of crook? Well, I can't get into the specifics. Certainly. Poos? No, not poos. We'll just leave it there. And she drifted off to sleep on the couch, which, trust me, is not like her. Right. And I was like, babe, you need to go to bed. And she's like, no, I'm all good. It's not a heroine, is it? Oh, no, she just nods a little when she's doing that. But yes And I was feeling squiffy And I had weird things going on
1:02Mike Minogue:Because someone else was sick And you wanted the attention
1:03Keyzie:Before I even got home I was like god I'm feeling weird So it was kind of a bit of a strange night And then she just sort of slept on the couch And I beat off And watched Nah And I think we were both really tired That was part of it as well She was really tired And we went to bed about 9 Well, she was tired and actually sick. And actually sick, yeah. But then I woke up this morning, but I'll get into that on the show. Okay. Very weird. Woke up. That's good. Woke up and thought, okay, it's probably about six. I could even hear some birds tweeting. So I was like, okay, so I went and did wheeze.
1:45Mike Minogue:Which took, what, like six minutes?
1:47Keyzie:Yeah, like staccato wheeze. And then I looked at my phone and it was 1.30. Wow. And I was like... Bloody birds. Good one. And there were birds singing. It was very random. Yeah, it's good though, because then you get more sweet. Yeah, well, I eventually did nod off. Do you know, Keezy, I was just looking at the way you addressed it.
2:14Keyzie:How do I put this in? What? Well, I can't put it in the terms I want to put it in because I'll be attacked from groups. Oh, yeah, sure.
2:27Keyzie:But you're dressed like a young conservative. Oh, yeah. Can I say that? A young conservative? Like a young engineering student. Would it be engineering? Well. Like a tradie. Business. No, not a tradie because it's a bit more geeky than that.
2:44Mike Minogue:Well, yeah.
2:45Keyzie:It's like sneakers, some sort of nicely pressed jeans.
2:48Mike Minogue:Just regular jeans that I don't print. How do you print?
2:51Keyzie:It looks tucked in.
2:52Mike Minogue:It's not tucked in.
2:54Keyzie:And you're sweaty there. I mean, it's good. There's nothing wrong with the look.
2:58Mike Minogue:Are you sure? We've put aside a minute on the potty for it. It must be bad. I'm not sure that lines up with young conservative. Especially the Bunnings trade. Yeah. And then a warrior's hat. Yeah. It reeks of backbone. It reeks of this guy is obviously a backbone who buys hammers all the time. Yeah. And gets hammered at the waz.
3:18Keyzie:I think it's just the jeans and the sneakers together that look a bit. Look at that combo, man. Well, it's just very, well. That's your shoes you wear, isn't it? Oh, yeah, we've got the new blue ones. My floaters.
3:28Mike Minogue:I just got regular blue jeans that I've worn quite a lot of time here. It's not a criticism, by the way. It just feels like a compliment. Nah, it's certainly a lot of venom. You look like a right-wing piece of shit. No, not right-wing. You said conservative, didn't you?
3:43Keyzie:You're going off to meet a group on your Sunday morning. For what? Oh, sure. Church. That kind of a conservative.
3:51Mike Minogue:I'm so confused. Do I look like shit or not? No, you look really sensibly dressed. Oh, but I've just got a hoodie and a waz hat. I don't know if this is church attire, is it? I think you've got to dress up for church. Oh, yeah, but I mean it's really hard.
4:12Keyzie:Is it, man? Of that mindset. Okay.
4:16Mike Minogue:Do you want to know what I did of an evening? I do, man. Last night, right? Thank you for your compliments, by the way, Jase, or your comments. That was effusive. Yeah. Last night we were walking back to the car park just after seven. Sure. And Jase and I, we've talked about this. We bond over knowing what's for tea and getting excited for it. And I was having leftover congee. Yeah, you weren't excited about that. Not excited at all. It was a HelloFresh dish. And I'm real sick of their – because they always have, like, the same flavours. Yeah. So let's try a fucking congee. What's that? It's like a rice soupy stew thing.
4:49Mike Minogue:fuck it was tasteless it was shit it had pork mints in it which is usually a winner ding ding instant three buzzies out of five buzzies instant usually but I had to put so many extra condiments and shit in it last night just to get it down and I was trying to hint to my wife like hey oh this was second's night yeah because we we had it two nights in a row you hope that it's going to get better on the second night sometimes things do yeah and it's great but this was worse and I was like to my wife sent her a few messages oh excited for congee and Pinocchio emoji yeah yeah yeah as I said earlier last night.
5:20Mike Minogue:She wasn't having it. She's like, we've got to eat it. Yeah, see, that's the sort of thing that would sit in our fridge for a week and then I'd clean out. Yes, 100%.
5:27Keyzie:Same, same.
5:28Mike Minogue:The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
5:38Keyzie:I found out something really fascinating about Keezy last night too, which was that, because I'm the same though. He was like, I'm just not excited about this meal. and I'm going to get home and just drop the bottom lip. And I said, do you do that, do you? Do you actually drop? And he said, yeah, kind of, I do. And I said, well, you know, can't you just make it toasty or something? I think, yeah, because you get your – it's a nice way to end the day, a good feed. It is. It's the best time of day. If you don't have that, it's a bit of a day run. I mean, I could give a shit, but you've seen what I eat.
6:12Yeah. But it's good because my happiness is then not tied to quality food. I'll just eat any old crap.
6:16Mike Minogue:Yeah, see, whereas I need, like, I'm excited to go home tonight because I know we're having a yummy curry, which my wife's making because she's working from home, so she's able to chuck it in the slow cooker and get it going.
6:26Keyzie:Yeah.
6:28Mike Minogue:But last night, yeah, and then when I get home after the dinner, I don't just, like, drop left and am a prick. I just am a wee bit, like, push it around the plate. Non-communicative.
6:37Keyzie:Yeah. Take it out on her. I told you the other day, and it was devastating to me, that I had the old pork ribs and, you know, and the cooking slowly. Well, getting my wife to do that, and I was really looking forward to them, a bit of really creamy mash, a really delicious sticky sauce. And I got home, and my wife was cooking a tomato pasta, which is two things that I hate the most. Your wife's cooking in pasta? No, tomato. But there wasn't even meat in it. And I was like, oh, oh, what's happened with the ribs? And she went, oh, yeah, sorry, we didn't really have enough time. Yeah. I ran out of time and I was so filthy.
7:18Keyzie:Yeah. But I hit it well. I bet. I hit it well. I bet you did. And sort of.
7:22Mike Minogue:Bullshit. You would have sighed. You would have no idea.
7:24Keyzie:I shoved it down.
7:27Mike Minogue:You know, I've worked out what you do. So you hide it all away or you're like sighing and moaning and then when you get to work you unleash it all. Because like today when he walked in I was chained to Prebs, Mogey. Yes. And I was like, he's like, oh, where are your mates? And I was like, oh, Mogey will be here in about ten minutes and Jase will be here any second and he'll walk in and he'll sigh. Yeah. And then I'll go, what did you get up to today? And then he'll say, oh, this and that, Keezy, this and that. Almost went off, but didn't, almost. I asked him what he was up to. He walked inside, said, g'day, everyone.
8:00Mike Minogue:And then I was like, what did you get up to today? And he's like, none of your fucking business, Keezy. So, who are you in the mood? No, I'm not in a who-ro mood. I'm in a good mood. What did you do last night, Moggy? Look, I'll be honest, we, what did we do? No No Went to bed early Pretty good with that We went to bed early man And the missus and I And we watched a show Ah new one Yeah new show Not bad actually Good Alright Yeah Watchable So that was good And then had a really good sleep Yeah on the good sleep zones But weirdly I feel about the same As I did yesterday Yeah Better than Nah better than yesterday But I was expecting I'd be a hundy today I was like how good A hundy today And then I was talking to the missus I said how are you feeling today and she goes, no, not a hundy.
8:46Mike Minogue:Nah. So you're me yesterday, which is like you're sweet, but you're just a bit, something a bit off. Yeah. But it has been good because I've not been like that old school sort of just like you're cooked Monday and Tuesday. You're cooked. You're putting things off. I've not been putting things off. So you didn't go too hard Sunday then?
9:10Keyzie:No. Did you go Friday, Saturday as well? No, no, no. Because you were meeting a mate for the game, I thought, and on Friday. Well, I'll tell you what happened there. So he came over and we were done and dusted, so about 10. Yeah. And then his missus came round, the invitalist missus, and my missus was pretty keen to kick on. Yeah. She'd had a couple. But she was pretty keen to kick on. Anyway, he said, oh, is it okay if they come over? Which, of course, it was. But they turned up and they were on another level. They were hammered. Completely different level to me. And I was like really quickly in the conversation, I was like, yeah, I'm going to bed now.
9:51Yeah, thanks, everyone. Yeah. That's me. But then I got to, because there was three of them, and I got talking to the dude, and he was an interesting fella. So we had a yarn. But anyway, I think they got tired of us talking, the other two, and they're like, let's go. So they wanted to go and kick on. So they left at midnight.
10:05Mike Minogue:Yeah, right. Which wasn't too bad, but was worse than it should have been. That's weird. Like, yeah, you're kind of like, oh, yeah, I guess we can come around have a couple of drinks a bit of a yarn or whatever and they show up like hammering They'd had a ball they'd been on the margaritas Yeah They were having a Last thing they wanted was to be an old mogies And having a yarn Yeah Having a chat So yeah that was good but we were very happy that they left when they did not because of the company Nah Just because But because the next day it was like man that could have been horrible Could have been a nightmare Could have been a nightmare if you was Would have been fun though Nah wouldn't have been worth it because then my my father's day would have been ruined Yeah And I think it's been one of the best days of the year Great day Better than Oasis?
