In short
“Outro: Early Retirement” wraps up The Hauraki Big Show with banter about low-energy days, upcoming Magic Round, golf plans, travel/food talk, and a discussion sparked by YouTube videos about early retirement.
Guests/backgrounds
No named guests; three hosts are chatting (Kesey, Moggy, Jase). They’re regular radio personalities on Radio Hauraki.
Key claims
Creative energy varies day to day; accept “off” days. Early retirement can feel freeing by eliminating utilities/costs and giving “purpose.” One host describes loving morning coffee rituals.
Notable examples
A YouTube story of an older couple who sold everything and lives in a well-equipped “bussy”/motorhome with expandable sides. Also: a local “bang-bang” street incident with multiple police/ambulances, and Magic Round punter interaction plans.

Oh givy fellas! Oh backbone! Hi. How's everyone going? Good thanks man. Yeah good, good.
0:22Mike Minogue:That's great stuff fellas. Bit tired today, like not sleepy tired, just like low energy, creative energy as well. Yeah, yeah. What's that about? Oh, it'll happen.
0:31Keyzie:You know, you go up and down, Keezy. That's just life, man. You can't always be perfect, man. You've just got to accept it and just this is how you are today and it's all good. It's okay.
0:39Mike Minogue:But usually I'm like perfect, you know, and it's been like that for 34 years. Yeah. And so just to have an off day and not be perfect is really, you know. It's a shock to the system, isn't it? Yeah. How do you deal with it? Oh, daily, man. It doesn't matter. I'm always at a pretty low ebb. Yeah, yeah. Sometimes I surprise myself and usually I don't.
0:55Keyzie:Yeah. Have you ever, yeah. The key, you know, because you do, especially when you're doing it. I mean, I'm talking about you here personally, Kesey. Right, okay. It's just that you're looking straight at me. I have up and down days. You do. Every day. Especially creatively. You know, you have days where the ideas are flowing. Then you have days and you go, oh, I don't know, man. I don't know. But, you know, you've just got to just accept it and then trust that things will come. I mean, they didn't come for you today and it's all been on us. But, I mean. Well, we haven't even started yet. You know, that's fine.
1:26Mike Minogue:Yeah. Well, that's the good thing about the show is if someone's down, the other two will prop them up, you know? Absolutely. And it's always another day tomorrow, Keezy, man. Don't sweat it. Thanks, fellas. Okay. Well, thanks for having this little chat with me. Did you guys play golf today? No. Playing on Friday. Are we? Yes. What do you mean, are we? Yes. Are you fucking kidding? I've organized a cart. I've booked the slot.
1:46Keyzie:I'm fizzing, Keezy. I'm fizzing for it, mate. For!
1:51Mike Minogue:Actually, what I might do is film a video of us teeing off on that first hole. Yeah, you got to. And turn that into a video. Down that beautiful slow.
1:56Keyzie:Yeah, looking forward to it. Because we haven't played in a long time. Boy, oh boy. Pretty much. Fellas. What's new with you, Moggy?
2:08Not much. Not much, man. Good day today. Bit of work. Bit of work. I have a bit more to talk about tomorrow. Oh, yeah. On that front, I think. But yeah, I don't know, man. Worked all day and now I'm here.
2:23Mike Minogue:Fucking hell. That's great. Isn't that good stuff, man? Yeah, it's really good stuff, man. Are you fizz for Magic Round, Jase?
2:32Keyzie:Yes, I am. We just had a meeting about it, didn't we, fellas? We did. There's going to be a lot of interaction with the punters, which I'm massively looking forward to because it's great to meet, you know, the big show fans and stuff like that. You love it, eh? And I'm also going to be checking out Brizzy a little bit too, a little bit more. I'm going to expand my horizons. So am I. I'm going to go to bars, but further away. Yes. Don't know why you'd do that. The only thing I found about it, is it Caxton? Yes. He's been there two times and still doesn't know what it's called. But I found it a bit claustrophobic.
3:05Keyzie:It's just so packed. I have quite a clear memory of you and I being out on the balcony looking down on Caxton Street. Yes. All the Warriors fans were in there. Yeah. And there was a whole bunch of singing down to our right and we were punching darts there. Yes. And she was pretty tight because I don't. The Lord Alfred Yeah the Lord Alfred there Yeah that was a bit of a An experience I could see you love it
3:28Mike Minogue:I'm going to be honest And especially it's so full And to be in that scenario You have to be Pretty fucking steamed I think Or certainly not hung over Yeah which we were Which we were You kind of do When's the Warriors game Is it Saturday? Sunday Sunday Fuck Sunday at 5 It's going to be the most hung over Out of every day It's going to be the Wars day Yeah man come on man And I'm going to be back In that pub again Fuck Fuck. Yeah. So you've got to get an early night, Keezy, man. Nah, fuck that, man. I'm going to power through. Me and Pug's going to go hard. Well, you would have had your plate of mints.
3:58Keyzie:So you'll probably be feeling quite good.
4:01Mike Minogue:Well, I hope so, but it sounds like I'm going to get mints on my own, man. Oh, you are, yes. I thought I'd be able to go get my seventh serving of the same mints. I know. With the fellers. The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki. The Hauraki Big Show podcast.
4:20Keyzie:I'm getting better on, because I never did breakfast. I'm getting way better on that now. Eating breakfast? Yeah, my body is actually going to me, and I think it is because I'm doing so much more exercise. My body's going, dude, you need to give me some fuel here, man, because I'm dying on my ass. Of course, in Europe, they don't really have the breakfast. You simply must go, Josh. Well, I think I have this vision that I would suit Europe. Nah, the issue with J's. Dullies, coffees, no breakfast. Nah, the issue, nah. Cici!
4:51Mike Minogue:The issue with you is... Oui, oui! The issue with Jace in Europe... Bonjour! Okay, fuck this. Yes, what's my issue? Was he massively racist? Why? No, that's not what I was going to say, but everything's expensive. Yes. And you wouldn't be into that. But Spain... Not for Jace. Is it in places in Spain and Portugal?
5:13Keyzie:Yeah, it's pretty good. Yeah, well, I would love to go to Spain, seriously. Spain would be perfect for Jace, I think. Sunny, cheap. Don't know. Well, you were there, weren't you? Yeah, I don't know what's perfect for Jase, man. Staying at home. Walking around the CBD of Auckland, I reckon. That's number one for you. Man, I tell you what. It's a true story, this. Here we go. I was walking down to the local dairy and there was a - What were you getting?
5:38Mike Minogue:Pardon? What were you getting from the dairy? Cream. Is that what you call vape juice? Cream. Really? What are you doing with the cream? You only coffee is there.
5:46Keyzie:Yeah. Well, we have the stovetop moody with just a little dollop of cream. Whipped cream, a dollop. No, not whipped cream, just cream. Oh, cream. It's bloody good. Nice. And before I left, there was a hurr of a fight across the street. And there's fights every day, but this one was next level, next level. And I was going, what's going on there? Anyway, so I was going down, walking down the street. this fight was going on and then I heard without no bullshit, I heard bang, bang! And then there was even more yelling and screaming and I was like fucking hell, what was that? Stopped on the street and stared at it for a while.
6:28Keyzie:Sure. From a distance. Yeah. Went and got my cream got back four cop cars two ambulances. So I don't know what happened. Gunshots? Somebody dropped a couple of bottles of beer. I don't know if they were gunshots but they It was like full on.
6:44Mike Minogue:Yeah, okay. So the bang noise, was it like someone had hit something?
6:48Keyzie:I don't know what it was. We don't know. It was just bang, bang. 3-4-8-3. Yelling got even more intense. Wow. You know what I'm saying? Oh, God. So, yeah, it was a bit of a hur of a start to the day. And you're still enjoying it? I love it, man. You like your coffee? It's good. I go to bed at night looking forward to that. I go to bed at night feeling okay because I'm really excited about my coffee in the morning. Wow. That's how much I love my coffee. There you go.
7:19Mike Minogue:I love my morning coffee as well. Yes. It's a ritual. I make my coffee, sit down on the couch, put like a YouTube video on or something, and then that's how I start my day every day. What sort of YouTube video are you watching? I'm never on YouTube. What did I watch this morning? I think I watched some sort of Japan travel thing. Right. Yeah.
7:38Keyzie:I've got this thing going on with my YouTube And I don't know how it happened And it's all about these dudes Retiring early And talking about what retirement's like I don't know why they've fucking suddenly appeared On my YouTube because Have you signed into it Do you have a membership on YouTube? No You haven't signed into it or anything like that? No Profile, right And I'm just getting these random videos of these dudes going, oh, you know, and they talk about what happens when you retire. Does it sound good? Yeah, some of them are great. Like, you know, there's this one old guy and his wife died.
8:21Keyzie:That sounds great. His parents had died. Oh, the dream. This is the dream. The year before, he had this big house. He was sitting there really depressed, drinking himself to death. Oh, great. What am I doing? Fuck this.
8:35Mike Minogue:So he rented it out and got an apartment.
8:37Keyzie:No, he just sold everything and is just cruising around. No, he's homeless. No, he's not homeless. He's got a very cool sort of set up.
8:46Mike Minogue:Where?
8:47Keyzie:Not a camper van, but sort of like a camper van. Does he tow it around? No, he drives it around. So it's a motorhome, but like a van, big bussy thing. Yeah, it's pretty big.
8:58Mike Minogue:What is it? I think it's pronounced bussy.
9:01Keyzie:A bussy, yeah. And he just cruises around and goes from place to place and he loves it. So he lives in a bus?
9:07Mike Minogue:Yeah. He's become a house bus. Does it bustle rhymes?
9:11Keyzie:What?
9:12Mike Minogue:So he's retired and gone on a house bus?
9:16Keyzie:Yeah, pretty much. And that's your dream? Well, it's not a house bus. It's very well put together motorhome.
9:23Mike Minogue:Right, okay. Good on him.
9:24Keyzie:So he can feed himself, he can sleep on it, he can make it larger when he camps out and stuff.
9:30Mike Minogue:Does the sides go out? Yes. Oh, those are expensive. Lucky bastards. Yes.
